- 0:00Does Finn look kind of badass right there?
- 0:01Finn does look badass. I love Finn.
- 0:04We got Finn in here. A baby in here.
- 0:06Brianna, of course. Hey, are we matching shirts?
- 0:08Oh, we. Are look at that.
- 0:11Got all the things. Well, I guess the sponsor of the
- 0:13pod has to be Gaspo Strings and Victory.
- 0:16You got the hat on. So Victory and Gaspo Strings
- 0:19today sponsor. What do you think about that?
- 0:20It's perfect. So wait.
- 0:22And Hunter's choice Archery. Hunter's Choice archery as well.
- 0:25So we got 3 guests right now. We got Finn Legend looks like a
- 0:29collared peckery. We got Peyton just holding it
- 0:32down looking very cute. And my guy friend of the show
- 0:37for a long time, Mr. Taylor. Yes Sir, finally made it.
- 0:41How you doing pal? Good, good.
- 0:44Made it out here. You come up from San Diego.
- 0:46Yeah. Made the trip to the Heat.
- 0:48Yeah, yeah. Going to do a little shooting.
- 0:50Oh, I can't wait for shooting. So we're going to play the
- 0:52archery games, which I don't think you've played.
- 0:54You've seen the faces, but you haven't played them.
- 0:57Are you looking forward to the games?
- 0:59As long as I shoot, all right. Decided to bow in right now so
- 1:03it should be good. At least I have an excuse.
- 1:05If it fits at chips, that's what I always say.
- 1:08Yes. It's a quote from Nostradamus
- 1:10actually, but. I know him.
- 1:11Yeah, I read it. I read it so our.
- 1:14Guests left already. Our guests left.
- 1:16Yeah, he did. So Brianna and I, Brianna and I
- 1:19are sharing a mic. So.
- 1:20But here's the thing, right? I walked in the house, I see
- 1:23this beautiful bison mount. OK, and it's your first time
- 1:26seeing it. But the kicker is that we
- 1:29actually filmed the whole hunt for the channel of his bison
- 1:33hunt. It's your first time seeing it.
- 1:35What do you think of the mount? It is large, it is large.
- 1:41I don't think you ever get a good visual for how large they
- 1:44are in videos. I like that moose we saw today
- 1:47at Victory. Just same thing with a bison.
- 1:50Just ginormous animals. And he's actually a lot softer,
- 1:54though I'm sure they probably did some cleaning of his.
- 1:57Probably. Shampooed down a little bit.
- 2:00But he's much softer than I thought, You know, that hair is
- 2:02going to be like real wiry feeling.
- 2:04It's very soft. It's very nice.
- 2:07Now here's the thing I want to discuss is I do want to get into
- 2:10the bison hunt, OK? I feel like we need to do that.
- 2:13It looks like such a. Tough hunt.
- 2:15Yeah. Yeah, it actually.
- 2:16Strenuous. I will say it was our, I will
- 2:19say this. I thought I thought it was going
- 2:20to be easier than it was to be, to be honest, going into it.
- 2:24But I want to talk about is your arrow set up?
- 2:28OK? So we're going on a bison hunt.
- 2:31Large animal, not high fence. This is a free range bison.
- 2:37Yes. OK, Why don't you tell me the
- 2:39bow poundage, draw length, arrow weight and broadhead choice.
- 2:43Go ahead and break it down for me.
- 2:45So I kept the kind of basic on that whole deal.
- 2:48I didn't like really look into the whole heavy arrow, fixed
- 2:52blade broadhead. I just figured kind of shoot
- 2:54what I always do. And I think I was at 70 lbs,
- 2:58four hundred, 410 or 20 grains and a Grim Reaper expandable on
- 3:04a base. A couple of them did a trick.
- 3:09That's wild. Yeah.
- 3:11I would never get away with that.
- 3:14I'm I'm like over here, got a cater to every type of animal
- 3:17I'm shooting to to make sure it'll work.
- 3:19And it just goes out the door with the same old, same old.
- 3:23That's wild. Well, I would do the same thing.
- 3:25I would do the same thing. But here, here's what I think is
- 3:28interesting about that though, is because for a while and and
- 3:31granted, I think. You're sweating so bad, Real.
- 3:33Quick. Well, it's hot.
- 3:33It's 90°. But nervous.
- 3:35Look, I am nervous. A little nervous today.
- 3:37Yeah, I don't know. I don't know.
- 3:39I'm just you're like. Pouring.
- 3:40Sweat it's OK. I'm I'm I'm it's cardio.
- 3:44Did you also? Wet your hair or is that?
- 3:45Also, I did wet my hair, yes I wanted to be sure I.
- 3:48Kind of like how he's he's doing that he's passing me the mic,
- 3:50but he also gave. Me, he has a mic.
- 3:52See, I need to only hold the mic in the left hand and the
- 3:56beverage in the right. But here's the thing that I
- 3:57think is interesting. So I think the novelty of a
- 4:01heavy arrow in a single bevel I think has faded a little bit
- 4:06from when that was like super popular and looked at as like
- 4:09what you had to do. But at that time, when you shot
- 4:12that bison, what was that, 2020? 3/20/23 Yeah.
- 4:17I mean dude I feel like that was peak heavy arrow single bevel
- 4:21time. Did you even think about it at
- 4:26all ahead of time? Like oh maybe this is 2 likes
- 4:28everyone says it's going to bounce off of?
- 4:29Like, was that even a thought? That crossed your head.
- 4:32Well, I mean, everyone, everyone kind of said like, you know, one
- 4:35of those, one of those deals where you had to shoot the 600
- 4:38grand arrow that the two blade deal.
- 4:40And I was kind of in the mindset like whatever I'm comfortable
- 4:44with, you know, it's going to, it's going to kill you, make a
- 4:47good shot. And that's what I kind of rolled
- 4:49with. Didn't want to change anything
- 4:51up really. And I'm fortunate to have a
- 4:53little bit heavier, heavier poundage or 70 lbs, a little bit
- 4:57longer draw length. So I could probably get away
- 5:00with a little more. So 30 that was 30.
- 5:04That's, that's lovely. It's nice, but.
- 5:06It's long. We got a new test coming because
- 5:09my cousin Chad drew a, he drew the kind of the same tag, Utah
- 5:15Bison. He's got a 28 inch straw, little
- 5:18bit less poundage, so we're going to test it out again this
- 5:21year. Are you going to?
- 5:22So that's a good question. Is he going to run a similar
- 5:24setup or is he going to switch it up and do the single bevel a
- 5:27little heavier? So his plan right now I think is
- 5:30to he's going to shoot about the same arrow weight, maybe a
- 5:32little bit heavier, like 440 or something like that.
- 5:35He's going to either shoot the beast or Grim Reaper so.
- 5:39If he Yeah. So Brandon McDonald actually had
- 5:41a take that I think is pretty, pretty reasonable.
- 5:44He was saying that he thinks it matters less on, I guess,
- 5:50broadhead makeup and more so on cut size.
- 5:54Brandon's thought is that a smaller broadhead, like if you
- 5:57were to say shoot an inch and 1/4 expandable, it would
- 6:02penetrate a lot better than like a 2.5 inch expandable because
- 6:07there's so much less drag width wise, which I think kind of
- 6:12makes sense. So if he's gonna run the IT.
- 6:14Absolutely does like the kinetic energy you're gonna lose the
- 6:18second that thing opens up. I mean, you gotta think like all
- 6:23of a sudden boom, 2 1/2 inches are popping up like slowing down
- 6:28the arrow that's more width facing against the air that it's
- 6:34pushing toward vice a inch and a quarter.
- 6:38Like there's just less like that.
- 6:40Just that makes lots of sense. Less where you're going and I
- 6:43mean I that so the grim reapers that I use are the engine 3
- 6:47eights, so they're pretty small even like when they're deployed,
- 6:49you know, so I guess it's a little bit better than like
- 6:51shooting a a real big head or but again, like the beast.
- 6:56I mean that's a pretty big head, but the blades move a little bit
- 6:58so or they they do that the blades individually move or
- 7:02something. I think it's because they're.
- 7:03Spring loaded so like each one can give without like, you know,
- 7:08fully going back in because we just talked about this on a pod
- 7:11that's not out yet. But when you snap a blade on
- 7:14like a sever or something in a sever is a good head, but it'll
- 7:17it's it works off rotation. So if one blade snaps, then the
- 7:21other one goes into the feral and you're not cutting anything.
- 7:25The beast you can snap one side clean off and because it's
- 7:27spring loaded the other side will still stay fully deployed.
- 7:31So it still does a deal. I think Grim Reapers the same
- 7:34way because they deploy backwards I think, right?
- 7:38Don't they deploy like? Yeah, yeah.
- 7:39So they they fold over the top. So even if one snap, they'll
- 7:42still be back. Yeah, they'll still stay back.
- 7:45And that's what I like about those heads is there's really no
- 7:49if they deploy, you know, when your quiver or anything and flip
- 7:51them back over. And it's been pretty seamless.
- 7:54Me and all my buddies been using those and they were good but my
- 7:56cousin's Chad's probably going to use the beast I think.
- 7:59Well, let them have them. Have them swing by my place.
- 8:02Maybe I got a little something. For him, yeah, you got a party
- 8:04favor. For him I might.
- 8:05I might so. Party favors.
- 8:08Why don't why don't you ask a guest question to our guest of
- 8:11honor here? Me and Peyton are just kind of
- 8:13having our own pod. We're just making faces at each
- 8:15other. So yeah, it's a separate pod.
- 8:17If you just don't listen to YouTube talk the whole time and
- 8:20just watch me and Peyton, it's our own whole thing.
- 8:22We got going. So it's kind of a duel.
- 8:24Some tongue action a second ago. She was.
- 8:27That's a new thing. She's learning things every day.
- 8:29So you're speaking in tongues like a religious thing or what?
- 8:32No, it's more like baby talk. Yeah, OK.
- 8:34It's a whole different. Ball game, Yeah, All right.
- 8:36Well then I'll I'll. Wiggle.
- 8:38Well then I'll hop into it. So Taylor here is maybe the
- 8:41luckiest drawer of tags possibly of all time.
- 8:46Except for this year, apparently.
- 8:48Yes, this year I didn't have so much luck.
- 8:50But generally very good. Now what is the secret?
- 8:55What can the viewers take from this podcast to draw more tags?
- 9:00You just got to put in. That's it.
- 9:02As many as you can. You can't win if you don't play,
- 9:05basically. That's it.
- 9:06That's it. Just got to kind of try to throw
- 9:08your name in everywhere and do what you.
- 9:10Can I've come to understand as you and James have your phone
- 9:14calls is try to get the largest credit card possible and Max it
- 9:19out every hunting season and and then hope that you don't draw
- 9:25them all so you don't have such a large credit card debt And I
- 9:30hope that maybe you draw one or two.
- 9:32That's pretty much what I tell Robin.
- 9:33I tell her I said don't worry about it, It's all coming back.
- 9:35And if it doesn't this month, if it doesn't come back, we got
- 9:38lucky, you know, so. Yeah, exactly.
- 9:39It's it's a win, win. Look at it.
- 9:41Yeah, it is true, though I mean back.
- 9:44Every time James goes to put in. Bro I think just.
- 9:47That what? Yeah, just in New Mexico, I
- 9:49think it was like 88 grand or something.
- 9:51Yeah. As part of like kind of the deal
- 9:52over there, really it's to put in for everything I think
- 9:54sometimes even more. Yeah, but I think it's worth it.
- 9:57I mean, as long as you can. Maybe it's not for everybody,
- 10:00but you know, started from the bottom, you know, so.
- 10:02Like, but yeah, Tobe's going this year.
- 10:07I mean correct, had to put in. He only applied for three things
- 10:10in New Mexico as well. He applied for deer, maybe only
- 10:14two. It might have just been deering
- 10:15out, but yeah, just pulled it. Couldn't believe it.
- 10:17And he drew elk in 2020. So it's a testament that, you
- 10:21know, that's part of the benefit of doing the lottery system is
- 10:24only five years apart as a non res.
- 10:26He drew great units. Yeah.
- 10:27I mean just as long as you're in and you know some decent units
- 10:31or something and maximize trying to, you know, get out there,
- 10:35it's going to be you're not anymore.
- 10:36It's so hard to draw, you know, you can put in for.
- 10:39I put in for, I don't even know. I think 6-7 states maybe, you
- 10:42know, and like this year I got nothing but.
- 10:44That's why my main goal, my main goal is to just keep getting
- 10:48more rich so then I can buy landowner tags.
- 10:51Which is also good, Yeah. Which I would also do.
- 10:55Yeah, James. Had a, you know, he thought like
- 10:59with, with this clout that's been growing, you know, he'd get
- 11:02some people reaching out, like offering him some stuff and
- 11:04whatnot and which has happened. But he had one recently reached
- 11:08out and he's like, oh, this is yeah, I'll go on, I'll go like,
- 11:11you know, Guy replies to him. It was a what?
- 11:16A reservation hunt in New Mexico or Arizona.
- 11:20Arizona. Arizona and James like just take
- 11:24a guess, like how much like this discounted price was because
- 11:27it's not free. I don't know, 20,000, you know,
- 11:33just knowing that it's a reservation, it's probably
- 11:36pretty steep, James. It was like 24 or something, but
- 11:40I mean, I it's normally, I did think about it.
- 11:44Like James, like it's normally like AI don't know, somewhere
- 11:47between like maybe an 80 or $100,000.
- 11:49I'm like, who? Yeah.
- 11:51Who spends that much money? I mean, that's like.
- 11:55A lot of people. Very nice used vehicles.
- 11:58There's a lot of people that do, though.
- 11:59I mean, yeah, you know. Crazy about that deal is there's
- 12:02people paying it, you know, like in the I always laugh because
- 12:04people give a lot of crap to someone, you know, going to pay
- 12:07that money. They go shoot a bowl on the
- 12:09reservation or whatever and. It's like you would do the same.
- 12:11I'll do it. If I had that money, I'd be
- 12:13lying. Yeah, for sure.
- 12:14Probably still would I'll. Be going.
- 12:16But but it's just when you think about how much it is like that's
- 12:196000 less dollars than my whole truck costs.
- 12:24My vehicle that gets me around day-to-day costs as much as that
- 12:28one tag does. That 1/5 day opportunity.
- 12:32You know, it's not a lifetime of use.
- 12:35It's not up to 200,000 miles. It's five days.
- 12:39You better enjoy file. Like if you crunch that down,
- 12:42divide 24 by 5. Like I can't do that math with
- 12:46that's almost 5000 a day. And that's the discounted price,
- 12:49you know, But hey, but the people doing that, you know,
- 12:52they got more money than time. So more power of the two of
- 12:54them, you know for sure. Oh my God.
- 12:55Did you see the one Jimmy John's just got?
- 12:58The Jimmy John's guy just got in Arizona?
- 13:00Holy moly. That's some big snicker, huh I?
- 13:04Don't know much about that guy, but what?
- 13:07The elk was big snicker. Yeah, the elk is What are you
- 13:11talking about? The elk, of course, is a big
- 13:14snicker. Yeah, now a velvet too.
- 13:16I love a. Velvet Bowl.
- 13:17Oh yeah. And like that guy was one of
- 13:19those deals. I mean, I don't know him.
- 13:20He might be nice guy, might be not a nice guy, but I mean, he's
- 13:24buying those tags. And I think it might be the last
- 13:26year they've been doing in Arizona, the governor's tags.
- 13:28But he puts that money and then he has all those Outfitters.
- 13:31You know that? They get employed by it that are
- 13:34getting paid and then that money goes to a good cause.
- 13:37Yep. And when you think about it like
- 13:40you just think how busy that the dude may be, rich as all get
- 13:44out, but how busy his day-to-day life is.
- 13:50She's out by Payton. Payton's gone.
- 13:53She's had enough. We have an exit on the podcast
- 13:57right now. We have a we, I I, I pissed her
- 14:00off and she walked off set. It's the first time we've had a
- 14:04guest leave mid pod. I also got my my flip flop
- 14:09nipped by the dog. So like, I'm in all sorts of
- 14:11drama over here. But but yeah, I mean, I think
- 14:14that's the biggest thing is like all the money is going into
- 14:17helping the wildlife. Like it's only a good thing.
- 14:20And it's like, I do agree a lot of it stems from jealousy when
- 14:23guys get to hunt like premiere stuff every year.
- 14:25It's like, yeah, well, I mean, they put themselves in a
- 14:28position to do it, you know, and it is what it is.
- 14:31I don't think that's a bad thing.
- 14:32Well. It goes back to that.
- 14:33That's what I was saying is that time factor, like you know how
- 14:36you used to not so much anymore, but used to get a lot of those
- 14:39comments like must be nice. Like must be nice to have your
- 14:41own schedule and make your own schedule and have all that time
- 14:45off. Like, sure, but you chose, you
- 14:47know, putting in the time and effort to get to a point where
- 14:51you could do that. It's just all choices.
- 14:54And like that dude probably works day in and day out and
- 14:58like, sometimes you don't like when you get to that point in
- 15:02life, you don't have the time to go spend a week scouting
- 15:05beforehand and you know, 27 days to sit your, you know, your tree
- 15:10stand, like you got one day to fly in and fly out.
- 15:14But if you enjoy hunting that much and you have the money to
- 15:17do it and fly in and fly out, like hey, the money goes to a
- 15:21good cause. So.
- 15:24For it, I saw actually one of the things with I thought it was
- 15:27pretty cool and I don't think it was this bowl.
- 15:29It was one of the ones that the Jimmy John guy, you know, and
- 15:32again, I don't know him or whatever, but one thing I heard
- 15:34was pretty cool. People were like reposting in it
- 15:36or I saw it on YouTube or something and it was when they
- 15:39walked up to one of these bowls that he killed.
- 15:41And I know he like got a lot of shit or got a lot of crap for
- 15:44like having so many guides there and whatnot.
- 15:47You know, like one of the first things he said or one of the
- 15:50first things they showed, like he rolled up and he picks his
- 15:52bull up, you know, and he said on camera, like thanks to all
- 15:55these guys, they're they're the killers, you know, or, or
- 15:58whatever, they're the real hunters.
- 16:00I've. Seen that?
- 16:01I mean I got a which is a pretty every.
- 16:02Video I got to thank James right I don't think I would have
- 16:06gotten in there without the person out in front for 3/4 of
- 16:09the stock you know maybe sometimes now on a lesser smart.
- 16:13But that, hey, that's, that's another whole topic, you know,
- 16:16like shooting animals, whatever it may be, like whether it's in
- 16:20the desert or, or any sort of sort of open country, you know,
- 16:24like someone's going after an animal who you're with is half
- 16:28the deal, you know? Yeah, It's not like, I mean,
- 16:32doing a solos, well, once you get down there, you know, in a
- 16:34lot of places, I mean, you're pretty much helpless, you know,
- 16:38unless you got hand signals or radios.
- 16:39We use radios, you know, where it's legal, what not.
- 16:41But but like it's one of those things if you don't have
- 16:44somebody who's reliable whether on the hill or, or wherever,
- 16:49wherever you're getting hand signals from or whatnot, I mean
- 16:52you're nothing so. Yeah, we've talked about all the
- 16:54times where like, things have gone like a little awry because
- 16:58like whoever's glass and loses it or whatnot and it, it just,
- 17:03it gets a lot harder. So like, if you can use any sort
- 17:06of communication, like James does it, he says he used to, but
- 17:10I'm for gonna have an earpiece. I'd have an earpiece in and have
- 17:15the person glassing with another one.
- 17:16Like if it's legal, especially if you're just trying to learn,
- 17:21like if it's legal, if it fits, it ships, you know?
- 17:28For me sometimes it's almost too much information nowadays
- 17:31though. I think that comes with the
- 17:32level of skill. I do like information for sure,
- 17:35but like I have done a few even in that desert open terrain
- 17:40where there is just me like solo by myself and I there's
- 17:44something sweeter about when you pull that off because like you
- 17:47said, it's so hard to do like this one time I I'd freaking it
- 17:52was like an 8 hour day of me trying to bed this buck down and
- 17:55I did and it was like super, super hot and I get out there
- 17:59and like like you said, everything looks the same when
- 18:02you're on the ground and I'm like a mile away from where I
- 18:05glass from. I can see the truck up there
- 18:06where I hiked from, you know what I mean?
- 18:08But and lo and behold, get right to him, pipe them at 24, you
- 18:15know, and like, I don't know, nowadays when IA lot of times
- 18:19when I'll do stocks, I'll have a glasser and like, like you said,
- 18:22if it's legal, someone texted me if there's service, but a lot of
- 18:25times I don't really want them to tell me anything unless
- 18:28something changed. Does that make sense that that's
- 18:31so if something moves a little like let me know, But or but
- 18:35other than that, I prefer to just kind of like have my mind
- 18:39be like free thinking, you know what I mean?
- 18:42Yeah, I mean, I see, I see both sides of it.
- 18:44Like I got buddies in Arizona that they will like to the
- 18:48death. They won't use anything other
- 18:50than hand signals, you know, and they're really proficient at it.
- 18:52Like they're bad dudes with the hand signals.
- 18:55But like it all depends on I mean, if you don't have somebody
- 18:59with you, you hunt with every day, you know, radios are going
- 19:01to be the thing and end of the country too.
- 19:03Like if you're, if you're down the desert floor, I mean,
- 19:06without radios, I don't care who you are, you can't, there's too
- 19:09much stuff that looks the same, you know, but like you're in the
- 19:12country, like more rolling terrain or, or hunting some big
- 19:15bowls or basins, you know, you can really like use a landmark
- 19:18and at least have a better shot, you know, but I learned from
- 19:22those guys in Arizona actually wouldn't when I they started
- 19:26teaching me this is about spot and stock, you know, whatever it
- 19:29was 10 or 12 years ago and they were the hand signal only guys.
- 19:32And like, I'm looking at them like this is impossible, dude.
- 19:36I can hardly even see. I can't see the hand signals,
- 19:38but I'll say that. So Brianna and I actually, we
- 19:41just did a hunt and we, we ended up doing some hand signals.
- 19:45I couldn't see like what you want the binoculars, I'd pull
- 19:48them up. But what was interesting is in
- 19:50my head, I'm like, I can't see what she's doing.
- 19:52I can see she's doing something, but like I can't really like
- 19:55make the details. But it ended up working.
- 19:59I got her signals like what I thought she meant and then I
- 20:02would like make a little adjustment.
- 20:04It ended up being dead on well. For you, because it's it's a
- 20:07much more simplified form of commute.
- 20:12Like you can communicate so little amount of information
- 20:15with the hand signal. Like you cannot overcomplicate
- 20:18it with like whether it's radios or whatnot with like more
- 20:23information. It's just as simple as like this
- 20:26way, this way, stop. You know, you know, up or
- 20:30whatever you use for your hand signals.
- 20:32Like you get 1 to 2 words that you could compute out of what
- 20:37you see. Whereas like a radio, someone
- 20:40could go on and on and you're like, OK, stop talking.
- 20:43Yeah, you can get, you can get way too much information.
- 20:46That's like one of the things that we learned, you know, like
- 20:48my buddies that I hunt with now and, and have for a long time,
- 20:52like I mean, over the years they've had it dialed in, you
- 20:56know, and I just keep kind of learning more and more about how
- 20:59it is. You definitely say too much
- 21:00stuff, you know, But it's one of those things like, it doesn't
- 21:04really change the hunt for me. And I look at it like when we're
- 21:07within a couple 100 yards, you know, and you get a general
- 21:10landmark and you're back in the game, it's like, hey, I'm done.
- 21:13I'm good, yeah. You know where it's at.
- 21:14It's time to, you know, hunt and go kill him.
- 21:16It's funny. Seeing like James and his dad
- 21:18communicate because it's so little, but it's 20 plus years
- 21:23of hunting together in that, you know, type of area and that type
- 21:27of terrain and that style of hunting that like they just so
- 21:34each other's language and what needs to be said and what
- 21:36doesn't. So it's very interesting when
- 21:39like, say we bring a new person with us or something and and
- 21:45James has gotten to the point where he's like, hey, look,
- 21:47you're either going to listen to what I'm going to say or like
- 21:51this isn't going to work. And it sounds very rude, but
- 21:54it's very true. You know, like I would say 9
- 21:59times out of 10, James is going to get you within 100 yards of
- 22:03the animal. It's up to you if you blow it or
- 22:05not after that, or if like me, just gets tired of taking me.
- 22:09He's like you're on your own go. Well, no, whenever.
- 22:12So basically we just did a hunt and I, I sent her the last
- 22:15little bit on herself. But it wasn't because I was
- 22:17tired of you, it was because you're you're annoying.
- 22:19No, it was a pretty rough few days for.
- 22:22No, I I just picked up some text I got from you.
- 22:24What are you talking about? Yeah.
- 22:25It's because your noise is half, that's why.
- 22:27And I and I also knew I'd have a good film angle from behind.
- 22:30That's all there is to it. I'll.
- 22:31Say that stuff was extremely loud and just being like a a,
- 22:34you know, bigger human than me, like it causes more crunch.
- 22:38Like the less noise you can make going in there, the better.
- 22:41And sometimes it is frustrating, like always sending to in just
- 22:45because you're like, I already know this is going to be louder
- 22:48for James. It's like I already know I need
- 22:49to go slower because she's not near as fast as tall, you know,
- 22:53as long legs. If it's a sometimes you want to
- 23:00just go by yourself, like because you really don't want to
- 23:04blow it. But at the same time, for me on
- 23:07the opposite end, it's like, no, there's way more knowledge here
- 23:10of like a lot of Times Now he'll let me go out, not let me, but
- 23:14he'll, you know, I'll walk out in front of my own stock and
- 23:17make my own choices. And if he, you know, once in a
- 23:20while now thinks that's a poor choice, just a little tap on the
- 23:23shoulder like this way more or. Whatever it is, but every time
- 23:27you're probably learning and, you know, like every mistake you
- 23:29make. And I mean, even with him having
- 23:31someone like that to show you whoever it may be, like you have
- 23:33James, you know, Yeah, I've had a bunch of different people.
- 23:36And like, noise isn't like the worst thing in the world on a
- 23:42stock, right? I think it's more so timing you.
- 23:43Need to believe that. It's timing of it, I think, you
- 23:46know, like because there's noise all the time, you know, like out
- 23:49there. It's just really timing more so
- 23:51than anything, like I think having someone like James or
- 23:54someone more experienced, you know, like, than me, I love
- 23:57having someone like, hey, what do you think?
- 23:58What do you think I should do right here?
- 24:00How do you think I should do it? You know, and if you take a
- 24:02route that somebody else recommended, it might have been
- 24:05better than yours. You know, it might have a little
- 24:07more noise. Yeah, it's not even like a,
- 24:10because I think a lot of people could look at it like, oh, well,
- 24:12if it doesn't work out like they told you to do it like you feel
- 24:15a little better. I don't think it's anything to
- 24:17do with that. I think it's mostly like, I like
- 24:19having that like dialogue one, it keeps the, the sometimes
- 24:24there's some tension when it gets to the end if it doesn't
- 24:26work out, but it keeps the tension almost down a little bit
- 24:31throughout the stock because like you're not so focused on
- 24:36like what's at the end of it. It's just like you and that
- 24:38person discussing how you're going to get there kind of keeps
- 24:42it calmer almost in a way to me. And plus you do learn like if he
- 24:50sends me a different route than I would have taken, like some
- 24:53something, we're just going to go straight there.
- 24:56Like, yeah, the wind would be after that.
- 24:57Brianna, that's not happening or you know, and it's worked out in
- 25:02times that like say this last one, that dare did not work out
- 25:07for me, but the stock did. And I as many times as we bumped
- 25:13like these javelina and then the deer themselves, I was like, I
- 25:16would have turned around a long time ago and we were so far
- 25:19away. I would just turn around and
- 25:20walk back and I'm like, we're not getting to these deer.
- 25:23And he just, you know, I said, Nope, we're going to keep going.
- 25:24We're going to go right here. There they all are.
- 25:28Just ended up hanging out and didn't work out but.
- 25:33Yeah, I mean, I, I think that like you have to be hunting with
- 25:37somebody, you know, that like you guys can all bounce
- 25:40information off of or, or, or ideas off of.
- 25:43And it's funny, I always laugh like the people I think that you
- 25:46got to second guess or be careful about as someone who's
- 25:48not going to listen to you, they're like, oh, that's the
- 25:50only way it work. You know, this is the only, This
- 25:51is why we're doing it. You know what I mean?
- 25:54Like, at least when I'm hunting, no matter who it is, you know, I
- 25:57don't care if they have way more experience than me, way less
- 26:01experience. Like, hey, there's going to be
- 26:03nothing wrong with little Velo you're laying down with Finn.
- 26:08New sponsor. New sponsor?
- 26:10Yeah. Not a sponsor.
- 26:12No, I, I think what you're getting, I mean, I think, I
- 26:16think your bite, I think your bison hunt was a good example
- 26:19because you know, you had Justin in our Group A little bit doing
- 26:23stocks. You had me and you on stocks or
- 26:27usually it was you and me on stocks and Justin came on one.
- 26:31But then even the glassers, everyone there was experienced.
- 26:34And I thought it was really fun because me and you got to kind
- 26:37of hunt together the most because, you know, our glassers
- 26:41would stay back and we'd go out and hunt.
- 26:43And it was every time we were asking each other like you would
- 26:49be like, what do you think here? I'd give my thoughts.
- 26:52What do you think? We'd go back and forth.
- 26:54Everything about the hunt felt like a collaboration as far as
- 26:57ideas, and what I loved about that hunt in particular was how
- 27:04many times I almost feel like it's cheating that we got the
- 27:07bison the first day with how much effort it took.
- 27:10Like I think that's the part that gets missed when you watch
- 27:13the video is you go well they got them the first day but
- 27:17barely you know what I mean? Like dude how many times did we
- 27:19try? Wasn't that our 4th stock?
- 27:21Me and you. Yeah, it was one of those deals
- 27:23that we're like, I mean, First off, even to get that tag so
- 27:26lucky, there's not going to be that many competent, like not
- 27:29that much competition or whatever.
- 27:31So we're like super fortunate in the 1st place to even be there.
- 27:34But we had gone up a couple weeks before, you know, we got
- 27:38our ass handed to us for like 3 days driving the country, like
- 27:41not going up there. That place is like kind of the
- 27:43wildlands and we're driving through it and I mean, we spent
- 27:48a legit 3 days and didn't see 11 bison, you know?
- 27:52And yeah And like, well, Full disclosure, everyone told us,
- 27:59like everyone told us before he went up there, like, you know,
- 28:01you're just going to try to cover country, get on the roads
- 28:03glass, you know, it's pretty open, big country.
- 28:05And. And we did that and we're like
- 28:07kind of defeated. And like I was just saying, Full
- 28:10disclosure, we actually met a dude and his wife.
- 28:13They're scouting for deer and shot him up a little bit and
- 28:18like, what was it the next day or something?
- 28:20They drove by and they said they saw some bison down the road
- 28:22quite a ways away from where just kind of the standard area
- 28:26people hunt them at. And we went down there and we
- 28:28found them. So it was one of those deals
- 28:31where we we went back and obviously the first day driving
- 28:34in that hurt us kind of stayed in there, I guess like they
- 28:37were, they were literally right where we last last saw him and
- 28:41got super fortunate. But the other four guys, I mean,
- 28:43they were hunting some of the the normal country I guess, and
- 28:46we ran into them after and they they were having a heck of a
- 28:49time finding them, but. Did you ever go back and look at
- 28:54how many people who drew that tag ended up filling it that?
- 29:01Season. So I think that I think either
- 29:03all or 4 to 5 did fill, but I know that it was prolonged.
- 29:07It was actually kind of crazy. I had heard some stuff about it,
- 29:09Borders Union Reservation up there and there was something
- 29:12going on to where, I don't know if this is like true or not for
- 29:16sure, but they were saying that the Indians were kind of pushing
- 29:18the herds back into the reservation, which now it's kind
- 29:23of a whole thing, like they're actually blocked or I think it
- 29:25might be resolved now, but they blocked the access to like the
- 29:28roadless area to go into. You had to cross through the
- 29:31reservation. There was some sort of
- 29:32discrepancy going on. They didn't let him through.
- 29:34But ultimately I think everyone did do pretty good.
- 29:38It was a cow or a bull tag. So I think somebody shot a
- 29:41couple or anyways, I think they all did pretty good.
- 29:44It was, it was awesome. I remember we, I think it was
- 29:51maybe our second stock we had glassed.
- 29:56It was a herd of like a whole bunch.
- 29:58It was that time we got winded from like 800 yards.
- 30:02That was the first one. Yeah, that was our first one.
- 30:03But the one after that when we stayed on them glassing and a
- 30:08few of the bulls had kind of separated from the rest of the
- 30:10herd and they went out on this big finger and sort of bedded
- 30:13up. We thought it was a couple.
- 30:16And then you and me like go down the shale hill, come up and we
- 30:20find them. And I just remember stalking in
- 30:24there and we couldn't glass up for sure a nice bowl.
- 30:29But we get in there and I remember I was right behind you.
- 30:33And we end up seeing one like pretty close behind the tree and
- 30:37we're like, OK, we're in them. And then somehow they kind of
- 30:40busted. Then we followed them quite a
- 30:43ways. So like we're a long ways at
- 30:45this point. And I don't even know.
- 30:47I don't think anyone could see us from our group even we were
- 30:50out of sight and and dude, we got really close.
- 30:54That's when you drew that one time and that one just wouldn't
- 30:57stop long enough. I think you drew twice.
- 30:59It's in the video but the one he.
- 31:00Draws. Let's down draws again, I think.
- 31:03Yeah, yeah, it was one of those I didn't.
- 31:05That was a that was a nice bull. It might be the same 1 you shot,
- 31:07I'm not too sure. I don't think it ended up being
- 31:09the same one, but I mean, that was one of those things like
- 31:11going back to like the whole lighter arrow, heavy arrow
- 31:15thing, you know, like, I think keeping a lighter arrow, you
- 31:19know, makes or made me think twice about making a good shot,
- 31:23you know, not saying like, oh fuck or oh screw it, you know?
- 31:26You can say a cuss word if you want, it's all good.
- 31:29I'm saying like, screw it, I'm just gonna send one right here,
- 31:31you know? And I was like, Oh well, if it
- 31:33doesn't happen, we'll find them again, you know?
- 31:36And we. Yeah.
- 31:37And then we did, you know, But yeah, that was tough because
- 31:42they came out and that bowl almost gave us enough time and
- 31:47just not quite. And we were like, man, we worked
- 31:50so hard to get right there, and it just didn't quite pan out.
- 31:53I tried to groan at them and stop.
- 31:55Yeah, most animals. We spooked them a little.
- 31:57We both spooked. Them we spooked them a little
- 31:59bit. That's a funny when you say, you
- 32:02know, grounded at them instead of going back to like hunting
- 32:06with two people. There are times where it's like
- 32:09with two people, especially when both obviously are hunters and
- 32:13experienced hunters. Like I've not been ready yet.
- 32:21But James can see that this animals about to go And so in
- 32:26his mind, he's just thinking about like this is it, this is
- 32:29the time to stop the animal and shoot.
- 32:32And I'm nowhere near ready to shoot.
- 32:33And he's already like I'm. Like I've tried to get better
- 32:37about that as a filmer because a lot of times when I'm filming by
- 32:41somebody, I'm like, this is it. This is the window for the not
- 32:44only the film shot, but the animals in the open.
- 32:47And I've I've gotten better about when I'm filming just
- 32:50being like, let let the hunter grunt because maybe their window
- 32:53is ever so slightly different. Than it really can be.
- 32:56It doesn't take that much, you know.
- 32:57And then again like same thing. Difference like I'm I'm waiting
- 33:00for this video from this last hunt for the black tail to come
- 33:04out to see. I have not gone back and watched
- 33:06it yet and James being, you know.
- 33:10How? All right, we are officially
- 33:13back. Sorry, we had a little memory
- 33:15card issue so I deleted our Victory podcast but luckily that
- 33:19one's already uploaded so we're good there but we.
- 33:22Were talking about like when you guys grunted at the at the
- 33:26Buffalo and it's always like a concern going with two people
- 33:33because with James he can see when he thinks it's gonna or any
- 33:37hunter could see like, oh, this is this is it.
- 33:40This is a moment like grunt and with us being so different in in
- 33:46height, like the window he may see you'd you'd be amazed at how
- 33:52different that window is for a shorter person.
- 33:55Like it's the difference in completely seeing an animal and
- 33:58completely not seeing it. So I'm very interested to see
- 34:02this footage from the black tail hunt because James like I got
- 34:05the I got like the whole thing zoomed in on film and I'm
- 34:09interested to see from his height how much of that animal
- 34:12like it's deceptive almost of the videos because like people I
- 34:16don't think will see how hard of a shot that was for.
- 34:19Me. No, we'll see it.
- 34:20I can only see his ears and his antlers.
- 34:23Yeah, I could see like this much of A back if that and I could
- 34:28see his rack in the direction he was facing and that was it.
- 34:30But in lots of windows, like especially on the elk hunt we
- 34:34went on, there are plenty of times like he could have shot if
- 34:38we had a bolt head bowl after bowl after bowl.
- 34:41And I don't think I technically had other than maybe one the day
- 34:45that I messed up on that cow that I would have had a shot at
- 34:48a bowl. Any other one I wouldn't have
- 34:50because I had no window. But him standing right behind me
- 34:54has a window and he grunts and like a lot of times once that
- 34:59grunt happens like that, it's use it or lose it moment like
- 35:04after that they're gone. And so it's difficult because
- 35:08when you go with multiple hunters, sometimes it can get
- 35:13convoluted in in the moment when everybody's minds like thinking
- 35:20of what they would do at the same time.
- 35:22Well, different levels too, right, Like, like it depends
- 35:24kind of like the more, the more you're in that situation, you
- 35:27know, like, because really what it comes down to, I think like
- 35:29there's so many people that can kind of get get in that general
- 35:33vicinity of an animal, which usually I say like was is within
- 35:36100 yards, you know, and like there's usually within 100
- 35:40yards. There's a a period of like a few
- 35:43seconds, you know, like where you're going to have to make a
- 35:47decision, make a shot and it happens or a dozen, you know,
- 35:50and like when, when there's two people on different wavelengths,
- 35:52you know, if someone's more experienced than the other one,
- 35:54like James could be like, Oh, I can make that shot right now.
- 35:57I have it with Robin, you know, like this on just on Javelina,
- 36:00you know, it's like, hey, you know, kill him, you know, and
- 36:04yeah, but, but, but that's exactly like the the the point,
- 36:08you know, like, I mean, you might need a little more time.
- 36:10You can have Alina literally 15, Avelina passed by and James.
- 36:15Like what? That one, that one, that one
- 36:20until I'm shooting at the very last javelina in the pack
- 36:23because it took me that long to like steady out or whatever the
- 36:27case may be or get the yardage or something.
- 36:29Which is totally fun. Yeah.
- 36:31You know, it's just different. Like, I mean, he's proficient,
- 36:33you know, and like, yeah. And but that's just like the
- 36:36experience or time or whatever, you know?
- 36:39And like you still got it done. Yeah, so and the main thing is I
- 36:42would rather someone take their time and, you know, make a shot
- 36:47that's clean and ethical and hits the spot, then rush
- 36:51something they're not comfortable with and farm it.
- 36:54Then with Brianna, for example, and I'm sure it's similar with
- 36:56Robin is one thing I've worked with her a lot on and she's
- 37:00worked on is in the last four years is just trying to get
- 37:04faster, more efficient, smoother.
- 37:07Like a lot of times she would be super clunky in the zone and
- 37:10you, I will, I will say this, you're very, very smooth because
- 37:14quick. Draw McGee over there like you
- 37:16didn't even see the arrow come out of the quiver and it's
- 37:19already on the boat. Yeah, we'll see.
- 37:23We'll see. And that's important, right?
- 37:24I'm the same way. Like in that video, you shoot
- 37:26and reload automatic. That's exactly what I do.
- 37:29I do the same thing. Shoot another arrow ready right
- 37:32away and I'm clipped up ready to go.
- 37:35And I love that clip because you can see it like you can see your
- 37:40quiver and the arrow pop out. It's all visual.
- 37:43So is that something you practice or have you always just
- 37:46had this mentality that I need to be reloaded ASAP just in case
- 37:50I need a follow up draw? In general.
- 37:52Well, like everyone that I've ever hunted with, that's been
- 37:55the deal, you know, Like you're going to shoot arrows at them
- 37:57till they're down, you know? And honestly, like the way I
- 38:01learned that is, I mean, I can't remember off the top of my head,
- 38:04but like one specific time, but I guarantee you it was a bad
- 38:08experience, you know, to where I either shot one or.
- 38:13I love when he does that dude. Out of the blue.
- 38:15It's so random, it's like your foot is annoying.
- 38:18Move it, he nips me. I call it the Finn Drive by
- 38:21dude. I love it.
- 38:22But yeah. But I know I'm sure, I, I'm sure
- 38:24I probably shot something, you know, was like, oh, that was
- 38:27probably when I was younger, you know, I still like obviously,
- 38:31like I said, learn some every time.
- 38:32But like, I probably shot when I was like, oh, that was badass.
- 38:34I smoked them and then six hours later I'm like, where'd this
- 38:38critter go? You know, so it's like now I
- 38:41don't even really think about it.
- 38:42We've seen so many times with my buddies, you know, like if you
- 38:45think you smoke, I'm like, hey, we're, we're shooting till Oh,
- 38:48it's over, you know? Always a follow up.
- 38:52Finn enjoys anything that he can bite around your foot, so right
- 38:58now it's a flip flop. So obviously behind us here you
- 39:03have a bunch of different mounts on the wall.
- 39:06I got couple mealies, big Coos, javelina, Thule bison.
- 39:11You found it a fair amount of species.
- 39:13I think you got to antelope as well, a black tail I believe.
- 39:18Rocky Mountain. So you've shot a lot of pretty
- 39:20decent spread of species so far. Do you have a favorite type of
- 39:24animal to hunt? I mean, probably elk, you know,
- 39:29just because it's, it's that's been actually the toughest thing
- 39:33for me is like, I've had some pretty good elk tags over the
- 39:36years and I've blown a lot of them.
- 39:38You know, whether it's me shooting bulls, I haven't found
- 39:41part of that learning curve, you know, rushing a shot or just
- 39:46trying to find something, you know, that's a real nice
- 39:49critter. But I think now it's like he's
- 39:54like, he's like his mom. No, he's.
- 39:59So mad over there. He's like, what?
- 40:00I got to be in the corner. He wants his bed right here so
- 40:03he can be on. Yeah, he.
- 40:05Was doing good for a while and then James flip flop annoyed him
- 40:08anyways. Yeah, he was attacking.
- 40:09He was attacking, you know, anymore elk just because
- 40:14probably like it's I mean, as the time goes on, it's going to
- 40:18be the harder animal to kind of get an opportunity to go chase.
- 40:21And like, I don't think I've never been around anybody that,
- 40:25you know, they might say they they don't like elk because
- 40:28they've never done it, you know, but you put them in the woods or
- 40:30wherever with a screaming bull elk, you know, it's like it
- 40:32changes everything. You know, it's totally different
- 40:35than like deer is glass and some of our favorite thing to do.
- 40:38That's kind of how we we'll just like you guys, you know, but
- 40:41like something about getting in. But it's nothing like list like
- 40:45I've never listened to. We just talked about this the
- 40:47other day. You always like watch YouTube
- 40:51video or whatever it is and all you ever hear is the bugle from
- 40:56far away. Like in the video or whatnot.
- 40:59There's nothing. It's like 1/8 of the sounds a
- 41:04bull elk makes. They make some of these scariest
- 41:08sounds I've ever heard in my whole life.
- 41:10Like it sounds like the devil is coming at you.
- 41:13Like it's so guttural. It's so I call it evil sounding
- 41:18like it is just like demonic. Like it's low, it's growling.
- 41:22Like it is nuts. I always say it's like Jurassic
- 41:26Park and like, I mean, I've only shot a couple bulls and I've had
- 41:29some, I don't even know, 5 probably really good tags.
- 41:32And I spent a lot of time, you know, hunting.
- 41:35And I think that's for me, Look, probably why it's my favorite,
- 41:37you know, cuz a lot of this stuff that I spent so much time
- 41:40trying to get, you know, and elk have been one of the things that
- 41:42like just give me hell yeah. Trying to shoot, you know, a
- 41:47nice one. So yeah.
- 41:51I I do love hell cutting. There's just like there's
- 41:55something different about it. Also, it's to your point, it's
- 41:59not something you can really do every year.
- 42:01I mean, sure, you can go do the over the counter hunts every
- 42:03year, but when you know those good tags where you are going to
- 42:05have the Jurassic Park scenario, it's hard to come by the tags.
- 42:11So when you get one, what awesome opportunity.
- 42:15I really like hunting them too. I've always been, I always say
- 42:18mule deer is my favorite. I'd probably still say that, but
- 42:21I do really like elk as well and lately I've really like these
- 42:25Coos white tails a lot, as well as cow's deer fan tails.
- 42:29You just say like that just to kind of like make some, yeah,
- 42:32make some rise. No, it's the that's actually the
- 42:35like proper way. Cow's deer, No cow's deer.
- 42:38General cows, Coos, Coos, Coos, just like I said, but.
- 42:44We'll talk about it later. We'll talk about it later.
- 42:45So right now we're having these margaritas.
- 42:47These are fantastic, by the way, This is a really good beverage.
- 42:50Also very fancy cup which I'm a fan of.
- 42:54Yeah. But also in addition to you're
- 42:59hunting because you've been a very successful hunter, which is
- 43:04really cool, but you also are a good shooter, a very good
- 43:09shooter. And I respect that because I, I,
- 43:10I really enjoy target shooting, competition shooting, 3D
- 43:15shooting, I love all that stuff. I even like indoor, right?
- 43:18So I just like shooting a bow and you're a good shooter.
- 43:21So one thing I always like to ask guys who are really good
- 43:24with a bow is, is there anything specific you do that's like, OK,
- 43:29as long as I do this in my form, I'll be pretty good.
- 43:32Or if you're in a shooting slump, you say, OK, I need to do
- 43:36A, A or B and then I can kind of get locked in again.
- 43:40Do you have any like checkpoints like that that are kind of your
- 43:43go to? I mean as far as like
- 43:46checkpoints, not really. I mean the the biggest thing
- 43:49that like that helped me, I had target panic like so many people
- 43:52have it, you know, and so many people like will say, Oh no, I
- 43:54don't got it, you know, but I'll I'll watch them shoot.
- 43:57You've been developed. Yeah, it's.
- 43:59Been a rough year. Yeah, I mean, and everyone gets,
- 44:01I think at some point, like to an extent, but like I've watched
- 44:04people, I've watched people shoot and notice they'll deny
- 44:08it, you know, they're like, Oh no, I, I just let that one go.
- 44:10I'm like, what does that mean? You know, So for me, like I had
- 44:14it so bad, I've tried all the things I tried, like blank
- 44:18bailing, you know, all the different deals and I can never
- 44:21really fix it. You know, I would, I'd be
- 44:23shooting at animals, my pen wouldn't even be on them, you
- 44:26know, but like, Oh yeah, I had it bad.
- 44:29But I like, I guess as far as like 1 checklist thing, I have
- 44:34one release that I have used for like I mean, since a year after
- 44:39starting. It's like 10 years when
- 44:41released. It's a hinge release and I use
- 44:43it for everything I use it for. So this is another target.
- 44:47Yeah, I shoot it different than. What is it about a hinge you
- 44:51think that helped with the target panic?
- 44:52Kind of break it down from when you had like your peak target
- 44:55panic to then getting past it. Like obviously the hinge was the
- 44:59key, but kind of walk us through how how you found out that a
- 45:05hinge was the key sort of. So I kind of have like a
- 45:07different mindset on it. I guess, like obviously the
- 45:10triggers, the deal that that you see everybody, that's the
- 45:14anticipation. So I don't know all like the all
- 45:17the lingo all the guys now use, you know, for that anticipation
- 45:20or whatever it is like, but for me, I grabbed A hinge release
- 45:23and I said, I don't want to click on it.
- 45:26Everyone told me to use a click and then I go, it gives you a
- 45:28safety. I'm like, that's the last thing
- 45:29I want. You know, I don't want to know
- 45:31at all when it's going to go off.
- 45:33And and So what I, I set it up to where has no click and it
- 45:37it's all at the faster side from a most people shooting like
- 45:40target guys will grab it and be like, Oh, it's way too fast.
- 45:43But I learned it, you know, I learned how, how it fires.
- 45:46And if I have that, I mean, I, I, that's where I can most my
- 45:51confidence comes from, you know, I know I can hold my pin on
- 45:54there and, and let it sit and it's going to fire.
- 45:56So what happens now that you've shot a hinge for 10 years and
- 46:00solved your target? Panic.
- 46:01It sounds like. What happens when, for example,
- 46:03you grab my release and shoot it now?
- 46:06Does it come right back or not really?
- 46:08So that's the funniest thing about like that, that whole
- 46:11thing with like a trigger to a hinge and target panic.
- 46:13I don't think anyone ever fixes it.
- 46:14I think you can like manage it once you've had it.
- 46:18I always joke around. I laugh like, you know, you
- 46:20should have trigger and you know, you kind of punch.
- 46:22I just say, hey, they're too dumb to know how easy it is to
- 46:25miss. Yeah, I love when you say that.
- 46:27So like and like, honestly, cut and dry.
- 46:32It might not be because you're dumb, but like, archery is a
- 46:35very simple thing. Yeah, it's very simple, right.
- 46:38I mean, what other thing can you teach somebody how to do it, you
- 46:40know, and you say, hey, put the pin on that spot and pull the
- 46:43trigger. Yeah.
- 46:45Yeah. And you can teach somebody and
- 46:46have them shoot in a group like this at 40 yards and probably
- 46:49half an hour because it's. So it's so simple.
- 46:51But once your brain like, kind of gets that, you get that
- 46:55anticipation or whatever that is in your head, you know, it's
- 46:59like you can't do it, Yeah. I think sometimes the more you
- 47:02watch videos, these like tech videos and how to shoot videos,
- 47:06like the more you work yourself up honestly into like, oh, I'm
- 47:10not shooting right. Like oh, like oh, my pin does
- 47:13move too much. Oh, it's like it wobbles.
- 47:16Oh, my left and right's not good.
- 47:18Oh, I'm torquing my bow too much.
- 47:20It's like now you just confused yourself into like thinking too
- 47:26much in the thought in the shot process of like, I need to think
- 47:30about this, I need to think about that.
- 47:31Like, no, just put your pen down there.
- 47:36It's got to move around no matter what and like, shoot your
- 47:40bill. That's once, I guess I, I guess
- 47:43like once you develop like your form or whatever, you know, you
- 47:46have to develop that first. Once you get that, other than
- 47:49that, it's just in your mind the only thing that changes.
- 47:52But like, I mean, kind of like going back to your question with
- 47:56a hinge now, that's all I use, right?
- 47:59So if I were to shoot your bow, I could pretty much I, I mean, I
- 48:05could take go shoot 510 arrows and pretty much guarantee I'm
- 48:09going to hit the spot, you know, But everyone after that, it
- 48:14might be a little bit less than that too.
- 48:15It goes downhill once I start to like correlate that again, like
- 48:19now, you know, and yeah, exactly.
- 48:22So like, and so the short answer, no.
- 48:24Like I might be able to take one like and go hunt and shoot
- 48:27something. But like, I'm so used to a
- 48:29hinge, you know, And but Chris, actually one of my buddies, he
- 48:34is the one who got me out of shooting a hinge when that was
- 48:37all happening. And I was like, this is what I'm
- 48:40going to use. And then our other friend, Zach,
- 48:42he's another really good shooter, Arizona.
- 48:46He shoots, he shoots actually a pinky release.
- 48:49It's just kind of the same thing.
- 48:50You know, it's just, but but it's just changing in your mind,
- 48:54you know, how you're getting to release the fire.
- 48:55And he's kind of like you. Like, I mean, when when you're
- 48:59shooting against somebody with a trigger and if they can beat
- 49:02their mind, I think they're you can't beat them with a hitch.
- 49:05Yeah, yeah. If you have a good shooter that,
- 49:08if you have a good shooter that punches or or whatever you want
- 49:11to call it, like commands the release or whatever, how can you
- 49:15beat them when they're only gonna let it go when their pins
- 49:17on the spot? Yeah, yeah, I I hear you.
- 49:20It it it is interesting. Like to make a joke about your
- 49:25line of you know you're too too dumb to or.
- 49:30Too dumb to know how easy it is to.
- 49:33Miss too dumb to know height. It's funny because sometimes
- 49:36I'll frustrate like, you know, Brianna or Matt or something,
- 49:40they'll have that problem where their pin gets locked below the
- 49:43target and they're they're like, how do I, how do I get it?
- 49:46How do I get it up to the target?
- 49:47Like I'm always shooting low or I'm flinching shooting high and
- 49:51I'm and my response is always, yeah, just don't do that.
- 49:58Hey, we say literally that literally proves the point,
- 50:01right? Because if you think about that,
- 50:02you're like, oh, my pin's stuck below the target.
- 50:05Well, if you actually say it to yourself back, why is my pin
- 50:08stuck below the target? Oh, you're holding low.
- 50:11Raise your hand up. Yeah, right.
- 50:12But that's where the whole thing starts, you know, Because you
- 50:15realize, you know, this is what I have to do, but you just have
- 50:17mental block and you can't do it.
- 50:19James just can't think hard enough, you know?
- 50:23I'm going to start saying like you're too dumb to be able to
- 50:25think like this. You know what Paige on.
- 50:27Another. Level, yes.
- 50:28You know what Paige told me? She told me that for quite a few
- 50:31years earlier in her competition career that she her pin would
- 50:38get locked below the target. So what she would do is just
- 50:40cider bow in a little bit high and just shoot low and then the
- 50:45shot would hit higher so. It's good enough to know that
- 50:48that's 6 inches low from down. There is about this far low or
- 50:53I'm like that's also it's still G like you're still a genius for
- 50:57being able to know how far to gap and know that it's gonna
- 51:01exactly land in the 14 ring every time like.
- 51:04Well, they're like, yeah, that shooter's like that.
- 51:07And I mean, they're just next level.
- 51:09Yeah, they're like the average. Talent like natural talent that
- 51:13like any sport like comes with it, that you either have or you
- 51:16work towards having. I always say like James just has
- 51:20some sort of weird natural ability along with his
- 51:25repeatability from shooting so much that I don't think I was I
- 51:29was born with that natural sport talent.
- 51:34But they're just like, they're on a whole nother level of like.
- 51:40Well, that's how Zach is. I can't wait to compete against
- 51:44Zach one time. No, Zach and I'm.
- 51:46Sure, he'll probably beat me, it sounds like, but I'm going to
- 51:48give up my best run, so I want to stop by his shop.
- 51:51Hunter's Choice. Yeah.
- 51:52Tree. Yeah, I only go to Hunter's
- 51:53Choice Archery in Arizona and shoot against him and.
- 51:57And that'll be fun trying. To get James.
- 51:59To it is close to pace and close enough they could.
- 52:01Be a new home shop you know he's.
- 52:03Zach's one of those dudes, like he's not going to, he's going to
- 52:06be the person to go to a shoot and he's not going to say
- 52:08anything, you know, to anybody. He's very under the radar, like
- 52:11even in his shop. James.
- 52:14Yeah, yeah. Would you say that he's a little
- 52:15bit outlandish? Yeah, just a little bit, just a
- 52:18little bit. Wait till you see the outfit for
- 52:20for target season this. Year can't wait to break that
- 52:23bad boy out. Oh my God.
- 52:26So Zach pretty much will be the opposite of James then, but I
- 52:29know he's for real. He's one of those guys like
- 52:32that. I mean, he'll come out and shoot
- 52:33a course and and you watch him shoot and it's like you can't
- 52:37touch. You can't.
- 52:38I mean, there's obviously more guys in Arizona.
- 52:40There's very, a very competitive like archery scene, you know,
- 52:44and, and just. More reasons to move there.
- 52:47Yeah, yeah, yeah. But watching like watching guys
- 52:51on that level shoot, you know, there's like it's different, but
- 52:55but the hunt and what what like we really care about.
- 52:57I mean, it's not there's a margin area, you know, anyone,
- 53:01anyone can really do it. Especially like with the, I
- 53:05mean, if you put some little, a little bit of time in it like I
- 53:07haven't been doing, yeah, you know, like I think you have.
- 53:11A small excuse. Yeah, a real small, about 15
- 53:14pounds, 55 months old. Yeah, but.
- 53:17Look, I mean, even today your shooting was already really
- 53:19good. We'll see how it goes when we
- 53:22put a couple of them games out there.
- 53:24I can't wait. But it's not like I'm not saying
- 53:27anybody's like, you know, you can be average hunt, but like
- 53:31really you can as long as you have all the other stuff, the
- 53:36drive to want to hunt to stay out there for the days that's
- 53:39needed to not maybe not shower for a certain amount.
- 53:43That's topic. Yeah, we'll talk about that
- 53:44later. Because he doesn't shower when
- 53:46he can, which is a problem. So that's my problem with it.
- 53:49Yeah, I totally get up hunting. This guy will text me and go
- 53:52hey, or call me and be like, hey, have you showered?
- 53:56I'm like, not in three or four days.
- 53:58He's like, aren't you staying in a weekend warrior?
- 54:01I'm like, yes, doesn't have a shower, yes.
- 54:03Well, if you want to make this normal, what you can do on
- 54:06whatever, how you do your Instagram page, you can take a
- 54:08vote. Oh, yeah, we could.
- 54:09If you ask somebody if they shower, if they can daily, just
- 54:14once a day, yeah, when they're hunting.
- 54:15I guarantee you 99% of people are.
- 54:19But yeah, I'm gonna have a shower.
- 54:19What's so crazy too is like on that elk hunt specifically that
- 54:23there were very few AK. None taken.
- 54:27I have a shower tent. I have a shower bladder that was
- 54:34hung above the shower. It has a pump that I have.
- 54:41Very luxury. Feeds from the the gallon or
- 54:44whatever many gallon jug up to the little shower head hangs in
- 54:48the shower tent and even it has a mat so you don't got to stand
- 54:52in the mud you put your flip flops on.
- 54:55You still didn't do it, huh, You?
- 54:56Still did. Yeah.
- 54:57See, it's just negligence is all that is.
- 55:00There's no other explanation other than that is negligence.
- 55:03Well, see, I think that I can smell a little bit more like the
- 55:08wilderness. Yeah, no, it doesn't work like
- 55:10that buy. Bacon, I can smell like a
- 55:12wilderness. If we go hunt, I'm bringing a
- 55:14pressure washer. I like that I do get.
- 55:17Concerned. I do get concerned sometimes,
- 55:19like when he's hunting, I'll check in and be like, hey, if
- 55:21you need a couple bucks I'll Venmo you to go get a hotel pal,
- 55:26have a shower. It's it's astounding how much
- 55:31lack of cleaning goes into manicuring all the all the care.
- 55:38You got to deal with it, not me. Well, hey, the mullet.
- 55:41The mullet looks better when it's got a little grease, you
- 55:43know what I mean? Just looks a little nasty.
- 55:46It's greasy right now. Have you had a shower today?
- 55:48Today. No.
- 55:49Not today, No. You'll be having a shower this
- 55:52evening. OK.
- 55:53All right, All right. It is.
- 55:56It's wild and we do have we we have cots now that are like bunk
- 56:02bed style but unfortunately I have to put James on the top
- 56:08because it's too squished for another RI.
- 56:10Did see and I think I will be purchasing them.
- 56:13There are extenders that make it a little taller.
- 56:16So like the person on the bottom bunks.
- 56:18Not like right in the other person's ass, but for James and
- 56:25some of the smells that come from him, both cleanliness wise
- 56:30and periodically dependent on what he's digested for the day.
- 56:36Riveting. It's camping in a tent with him
- 56:40is just so it's a whole nother level of patience and he's like,
- 56:45he's like, oh man, you see the amount of patients I have, We
- 56:47know waiting for me to finally get an animal.
- 56:50I'm like, do you see the amount of patients I have on a daily
- 56:53basis? Oh, that's torturous.
- 56:55I wouldn't call it patience. I mean, you have to do it, you
- 56:57know? So he's kind of putting you
- 56:59through it. Yeah.
- 57:00Yeah. I.
- 57:01Am it's, you know, we're working on it.
- 57:04I will say this new diet, I don't even want to call it a
- 57:07diet. It's just like lifestyle of
- 57:09eating. We have decided that determined
- 57:13really that vegetables are just not for James.
- 57:17Like if he has a bowl of lettuce, just go put him in
- 57:21another room. Yeah, I'll be out of some.
- 57:24Stinky. Very bro.
- 57:25I'll be stinky. Yeah, meat really cleans him up
- 57:28nicely. I I highly enjoy it.
- 57:32It's really taking a turn for a different direction.
- 57:34You know, I wasn't expecting this pod to go this way, but
- 57:36hey, it's a conversational pod. So we're learning about diet,
- 57:39no? No, the main thing about this
- 57:41whole thing is tech. Tip of the day Shower when you
- 57:44hunt, Yeah. And well, and like, he's such a
- 57:46big person. I'm about scent.
- 57:48Well. He would.
- 57:49Spend so many less days hunting if he would shower.
- 57:52Oh my goodness. You know, actually because wind
- 57:53it half the time that's the problem.
- 57:54Like 30 days, 30 days in a tree stands like man, it would have
- 57:59taken maybe four or five if you would shower.
- 58:02You should do a consensus on that like over you know the
- 58:05period of like every other hunt, like you shower more of our
- 58:08shower less and see if you know 1 takes less days than the
- 58:11other. Well, I guarantee you that.
- 58:13Maybe. That'd be fun.
- 58:14Yeah, I like it so. I'm about to go, you know, on a
- 58:18hunt that you, I think, know well.
- 58:25Any advice for me in this time of need you know?
- 58:34No, because I still I need advice myself.
- 58:36I'll be out there too. Just show up with peace, love,
- 58:39positivity and a good attitude. Maybe I don't know, I got to see
- 58:42if I can if I can sneak away for a little bit, But I think like,
- 58:45I mean, above anything on any of the hunts like that, they're
- 58:50going to be over the counter general hunts, you know,
- 58:53whatever it might be, it's just going to be time.
- 58:54Like I, I say all the time, like there's so many people that get
- 58:58discouraged because this is one thing I always wanted to talk
- 59:00about is like people will see a picture on Instagram, you know,
- 59:04and whatever it's a deer or it's an elk, say it was.
- 59:07It doesn't matter if it was a private or, or a general over
- 59:10the counter. They're like, oh man, that's
- 59:13awesome. I want to go do that right, But
- 59:15but two days into it, they're like, fuck, this is hard.
- 59:18You know, I why does it look so easy?
- 59:22You know, how do they do it? You know, poor me, I'm going to,
- 59:24I'm going to go home or whatever, you know?
- 59:26Or you think about it like it's like some of these units close
- 59:32the first week, like they fill that fast and you have to like
- 59:37convince your mind to not think that way negatively.
- 59:41It's like the thought every once in a while crosses the mind of
- 59:44like, I'm planning like how many days like we're going to be out
- 59:46there for a full time till we have to take off for, for Ted's
- 59:51hunt. And when you do the math, you're
- 59:54like, I probably won't even have that much time to be able to
- 59:58hunt it like. For the unit to be open and then
- 1:00:02like, you can't let your mind venture down the path of like,
- 1:00:05well, how do all these people fill this tag so fast in this
- 1:00:08unit? Like when I'm planning on like
- 1:00:10needing 15 days, but you just cannot think like that because
- 1:00:13like, it's not any easier for them.
- 1:00:17They're in the same. Unit everyone does it.
- 1:00:18Different. Everyone does it different.
- 1:00:20They're going to shoot a different, you know, a different
- 1:00:22type of animal, whatever, you know.
- 1:00:24But it's one of those I think that.
- 1:00:27You were in the same place that they were at the same time.
- 1:00:29Like sometimes, like it's not luck per SE that gets the
- 1:00:33animal, but it is luck. Oh, at a. 100.
- 1:00:35Percent, if you were there at that time in the morning, like
- 1:00:40were you 5 minutes earlier to get to, you know, this water
- 1:00:45tank or this mountainside or, you know, whatever the case may
- 1:00:49be, like there is a portion of hunting.
- 1:00:51I say it's like 80% skilled, 20% luck.
- 1:00:54See, I would say it's different. That's it.
- 1:00:56Yeah, because though everything you just said, right, the luck,
- 1:01:00whatever you got to be there. You have to be out in out in the
- 1:01:04woods or the desert, whatever, whatever it is hunting, right.
- 1:01:07So like. That is still luck.
- 1:01:08Like you might have just take like chosen to take the wrong
- 1:01:11Rd. that day and like, you know, more deer we're over on this
- 1:01:14hillside than this hillside. Like so much of it, even if you
- 1:01:17are being, if you're being there still luck.
- 1:01:21Like, well, there's, I mean, still can get you so far, you
- 1:01:23know, it can get you close to an animal, but they have a mind
- 1:01:25too, you know. So like if things aren't in the
- 1:01:28cards, you know, and they decide to do something.
- 1:01:30No, they zig, you zag. I mean, that's where luck goes.
- 1:01:34Doesn't go your way, you know, and they could also be like,
- 1:01:37hey, I'm 100 yards, I'm I'm 200 yards.
- 1:01:40Shit, I can't get closer. I'm going to sit tight right
- 1:01:42here and luck goes your way. He's going to get up and he's
- 1:01:45going to feed to you, you know, so like there's and.
- 1:01:47He gets up and we've seen it the other way and it's.
- 1:01:50Like exactly. Or you're driving on the road
- 1:01:53and you see when off the road you jump out and shoot him.
- 1:01:56You know, what's the difference? I mean, who's who's who's the
- 1:02:00judge and say I wouldn't have done that.
- 1:02:04Yeah, I know a lot of guys. I don't, I don't know one of
- 1:02:07them that wouldn't do it. You know, so like, I mean, and
- 1:02:09there's we've done that. Opportunity comes your way to do
- 1:02:13what's legal to fill your tag. Like at the end of the day, if
- 1:02:17there is a deer that. Now some people sure had my
- 1:02:20standards are pretty low. Some people might have a little
- 1:02:23higher standards for what they're looking for.
- 1:02:26But like, at the end of the day, if it's close enough to your
- 1:02:30standards or you're far enough along in your hunt that you're
- 1:02:33like 10 days in and you're reaching your last few days.
- 1:02:36Like not a single person could say it didn't cross their mind
- 1:02:40to jump out of that truck if the deer stands there broadside.
- 1:02:43Where it's legal, whoever doing the shooting, as long as they're
- 1:02:45cool with it, you know, like I said, if it's legal, let it
- 1:02:48ride, you know, who cares? There's nobody to say.
- 1:02:50Like obviously, I mean me, I like the spot and stalk animals.
- 1:02:54You know, I've shot stuff off the road, you know, I've shot
- 1:02:56stuff over water, but I have a lot of hunts where I won't I
- 1:03:00won't sit water on purpose because it's I don't want to do
- 1:03:03it that way. But like James, look how
- 1:03:05successful he's been doing that. I mean, so there's it all
- 1:03:10depends kind of what you want to get out of it, you know, like if
- 1:03:12someone wants, if someone has the patience, like James, you
- 1:03:17know, great, go do it, you know, but you have to be if you don't
- 1:03:20do that, you got to be OK with going home with nothing, you
- 1:03:22know, but so many people don't want to.
- 1:03:23Like I said earlier, I've had some really good elk tags and
- 1:03:26I've gone home with nothing. I'm sure I could have shot one
- 1:03:28on the water, you know, but I want to do it a certain way And
- 1:03:32and so, but it all it's whoever's.
- 1:03:34Short, I've gotten over that. I got over that in the elk hunt.
- 1:03:38I wouldn't say quickly learned because we were out there pretty
- 1:03:41much almost the full time, but I'm going to, you know, I'll
- 1:03:47assess it over the first few days and like if it's just not
- 1:03:51in my cards in that area, like where the black tail hunt is,
- 1:03:55there's just so much of that that's not huntable for me
- 1:03:58because it's too tall that I've quickly gotten over.
- 1:04:02It is fun to spot in stock and in Arizona a lot of places I
- 1:04:05can. But if I'm in an area that I'm
- 1:04:09already seeing, like this ain't going to be doable, Like I might
- 1:04:14get close and I've gotten pretty darn good at my stocking skills
- 1:04:17and getting close and being quiet and playing the wind.
- 1:04:21But like the opportunity that's there for the person behind me
- 1:04:24who's not hunting is not there for me because I can't see
- 1:04:27through the brush. So I'm just like, if that means
- 1:04:32sitting water or sitting tanks or sitting a tree stand on a
- 1:04:37trail that we found, I am all down for it now at this point
- 1:04:42because whatever's going to work, especially like dependent
- 1:04:45on who has the tag. Like what I say it's slightly
- 1:04:48different story if James also still had his tag.
- 1:04:50And so we're both hunting. Sure, yeah, I'd get on the
- 1:04:54ground some days. So like, you know, he out if
- 1:04:57that's the way he wants to hunt, we we can do that, but he
- 1:05:01doesn't. And so it's like he said it a
- 1:05:04couple times and I was like, you really seem set on that.
- 1:05:06I'm like, yeah, we've been there.
- 1:05:08We've seen what it looks like. Like it was extremely difficult
- 1:05:12to see an elk. How difficult do you think it is
- 1:05:15to see a deer on the ground that deer's half the size or more?
- 1:05:19So I'm pretty set having seen it knowing like I'm a have to
- 1:05:26commit myself to a blind or tree.
- 1:05:28Stand which I mean, that's a whole different, like that's a
- 1:05:30whole different mental game, you know?
- 1:05:32Like. Level of patience, I'm the first
- 1:05:34one to say it. Like I, I don't have trouble
- 1:05:36sitting, you know what I mean? Like I have, I have trouble
- 1:05:38sitting in there that long. I'd rather I'm like, if I sit in
- 1:05:41a blind, I think like, oh man, there's a bowl or there's a,
- 1:05:44there's a deer somewhere, you know, laying down.
- 1:05:46I don't chase them. Like when you can hear them so
- 1:05:49you know they're within like 700 yards, I could just get out and
- 1:05:53go walk that 700 yards. Yeah.
- 1:05:55But the waters are more for sure, it's a controlled
- 1:05:57scenario, you know, for somebody who who's just like getting into
- 1:06:01that not not more like a more controlled scenario to where you
- 1:06:05can kind of you can make your decisions, you know, and have
- 1:06:09more time to do it and more. Cover building over the last
- 1:06:12year it I said I need I need a a reset and a blind or tree stand
- 1:06:17is going to be my my way of helping me get a reset.
- 1:06:20Which is the first thing to accept it and let it ride.
- 1:06:22And I'm, you know, I'm sure if you get the opportunity.
- 1:06:26Still be jacked up and probably pop the blind at least once.
- 1:06:28Cut it with my broad head and hopefully not cut my finger.
- 1:06:31Hopefully be able to draw the bow and hopefully be able to see
- 1:06:34the deer. It's a whole slew of things.
- 1:06:36When you stop doing that, stop hunting.
- 1:06:38Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. My mentality with hunting has
- 1:06:43always been, it's just always been my mindset is I'm like you,
- 1:06:46my favorite is hunting on the ground spot and stocks.
- 1:06:48My favorite, but I've always had the mindset that whatever it
- 1:06:53takes for me to be successful on that hunt in that location in
- 1:06:57that year, I'm going to do it. So like you, sometimes that
- 1:07:01might be in my head. I think sitting a tree for way
- 1:07:04too long or sitting a blind for way too long or glassing for way
- 1:07:08too long, whatever it is, I I always have had the mindset that
- 1:07:11I'm going to do just whatever option even though my preferred
- 1:07:15is spot in stock and with DRF shot 90% of them spot in stock.
- 1:07:20But the other 10 I don't have a problem jumping in a blind or
- 1:07:24something if if I think that's what the best option is.
- 1:07:28And I think I've always thought the more well-rounded and
- 1:07:33comfortable you can be hunting in different styles, the more
- 1:07:36successful you're going to be overall.
- 1:07:38So like one of the things on my list lately has been to learn
- 1:07:43and become more proficient hunting out of a saddle so I can
- 1:07:46hike around with the whole gear in my pack.
- 1:07:48And then if I find, you know, let's just say I'm hunting a
- 1:07:51group of elk and I kind of bed them down during the day And I
- 1:07:54get, you know, I don't know, let's just say 2-3 hundred yards
- 1:07:58from the group. Rather than go back to camp and
- 1:08:01take a nap or something, I can just saddle up in a tree on a
- 1:08:04trail nearby, wait it out and see, you know, like, so there's
- 1:08:08different options I want to add, but that's always kind of been
- 1:08:11my mentality, you know, if that makes sense.
- 1:08:14Yeah, I mean, I mean it also, I think like is also what
- 1:08:18somebody, you know, like, obviously the, the generic
- 1:08:22definition of like success on a hunt is going to be like, oh, I
- 1:08:25shot 1, you know, but like going back to like I've known, I've
- 1:08:28said like 3 times, like my outcomes, you know, I've had,
- 1:08:30I've had really good tags and haven't shot out, but I have so
- 1:08:34many experiences in there, you know, that I, that I learned
- 1:08:37from, you know, on the ground with them over how many, I mean,
- 1:08:41double, double digit days, you know, whatever on a hunt.
- 1:08:45And I've learned so much stuff. I'm like, I'm good with it, you
- 1:08:50know, so it all really depends like who who it's for.
- 1:08:54Like, like, like what, what, what you're getting out of it.
- 1:08:56You know, I think some, some of the problem that that people
- 1:09:00have nowadays is like they want that they want that Instagram
- 1:09:05picture, they want that Facebook picture, you know, and it's
- 1:09:10different for everybody. I mean, like for you, it's the
- 1:09:12total opposite, right? Because you're going to be the
- 1:09:13person that, you know, you want to, you want a picture for your
- 1:09:17page or whatever, for all your followers, for the sponsors and
- 1:09:20all that. But you're going to do whatever
- 1:09:22it takes to get that picture. You know, where a lot of times,
- 1:09:26like people will, they care so much about that picture.
- 1:09:30Once they realize how hard it is, they're like, fuck it, you
- 1:09:34know? I'm not, I'm not doing it.
- 1:09:35And The thing is, I've always been like that regardless, even
- 1:09:38before I was doing content or videos.
- 1:09:40That's just always was always my mindset ever since I was a young
- 1:09:44kid hunting with my dad, bow hunting, I always had that
- 1:09:48mindset of like I got to come home with the tag punch.
- 1:09:51I have to. It's like a destiny thing.
- 1:09:54It's always how I looked at it, you know, and I still do it
- 1:09:57really. Like my mindset hasn't changed
- 1:09:58because of what we're doing now. In fact, I try to encourage guys
- 1:10:02who do content hunting that even if you go on a hunt and you film
- 1:10:06a lot of really good stuff, but you don't get, you know, get
- 1:10:08anything, I'm like, dude, still post it.
- 1:10:11Like make a good story of the hunt.
- 1:10:13We try to do that, you know, when we don't feel something.
- 1:10:16But most importantly, I just I just love hunting and I've met
- 1:10:20so many good people through hunting and archery Taylors, one
- 1:10:23of them, you know, and many others that I didn't know prior
- 1:10:26to hunting and Brianna as well. So it's just an awesome hobby
- 1:10:32and and and A and a lifestyle and I really love that.
- 1:10:35And then doing the tournaments is a blast.
- 1:10:38And we don't get to compete enough.
- 1:10:40Me and you have only competed a couple of times, but today.
- 1:10:43Hey, new face off baby. So yeah, I appreciate you coming
- 1:10:47on for. Sure.
- 1:10:48You did a great job. It's like pulling teeth getting
- 1:10:50this guy to come on, but we finally did so anyway, Shoot
- 1:10:54him. Follow Taylor. under score
- 1:10:56hockey will not approve. He will not approve your
- 1:10:58follower request. But go ahead and try.
- 1:10:59I will not. And yeah, that's it.
- 1:11:03So appreciate you guys watching 5 stars, Apple, Spotify,
- 1:11:06subscribe to the podcast channel and we'll see you in the next
- 1:11:09one. See you.
