Speaker 2: here as we go forward in the Book of Acts.

Speaker 2: And that's not accidental. Right, Whenever the church begins to

Speaker 2: walk in unity and to walk in power, opposition opposition

Speaker 2: does not retreat, it regroups. So don't be surprised, don't

Speaker 2: be alarmed. If you are undergoing spiritual warfare, you gotta

Speaker 2: know that it could be out of circumstances. People come

Speaker 2: against you for no reason. These are foul and wicked spirits.

Speaker 2: There's issues in your marriage. All of a sudden, you

Speaker 2: know you received Christ, and all of a sudden, there's

Speaker 2: just you can't for some reason agree with your spouse

Speaker 2: or or just it just seems like all heck, it

Speaker 2: starts breaking loose. Yes, this is spiritual warfare. It could

Speaker 2: be financial situation after situation, you just don't get a relief,

Speaker 2: no breathing room. Don't be surprised. You need to take

Speaker 2: authority over this in the spirit even our health right,

Speaker 2: so it comes with the territory. But we need to

Speaker 2: learn to trust, lean into God, trust God, and to

Speaker 2: rise up in the midst of it. Hallelujah. Now, when

Speaker 2: the government turns against the church, right, there's one thing

Speaker 2: to receive persecution, but when they start passing laws and

Speaker 2: once the government sponsors it, it takes it to a

Speaker 2: whole nother level. We have not experienced this in America yet,

Speaker 2: but I pray that the church in America will stand

Speaker 2: once that day comes. The Bible tells us that that

Speaker 2: day is going to come. Now Verse one, it says,

Speaker 2: now about that time, Herod the King stretched out his

Speaker 2: hand to harass some of the church. Now, the king, right,

Speaker 2: they're threatened by the King of kings and the Lord

Speaker 2: of lords. They're threatened by this new authority. That we

Speaker 2: are submitting our lives to. The Gospel is a threat.

Speaker 2: I'm starting to see more and more how the Gospel

Speaker 2: of Christ threatens every government on this planet. And I
8:45
Speaker 2: can understand why these countries want to outlaw it so bad. Now,

Speaker 2: this is Herod Agrippa right now. He was particularly ambitious,

Speaker 2: a very insecure ruler, seeking favor with the Jews that

Speaker 2: he leads the opposition. Then this grows into the Christian
9:26
Speaker 2: movement right here. Now, notice the wording stretched out his hand.

Speaker 2: This was not random, This was targeted. When spiritual influences grows,

Speaker 2: political power often feels threatened. Let me say that again.

Speaker 2: When spiritual influencers grow, and I think of the assassination

Speaker 2: of Charlie Kirk right, the whole country saw that. It's

Speaker 2: a threat to political power. And we see right here,

Speaker 2: how the king stretched out his hand to harass the church.

Speaker 2: Then it says he killed James, the brother of John,

Speaker 2: with the sword. Now remember Peter, James and John, one

Speaker 2: of the three. James was taken out early. And this

Speaker 2: you can say, is the cost of discipleship. Now this

Speaker 2: verse deserves silence, right, a moment of silence. Our brother

Speaker 2: James was killed with the sword. He was one of

Speaker 2: the twelve. He was a part of the inner circle

Speaker 2: of Jesus Christ, a witness to miracles. He was an

Speaker 2: eye witness to the accounts of the life of Christ.

Speaker 2: Every miracle that Jesus did, James was there. He was

Speaker 2: a man who walked with Christ. And yet he is

Speaker 2: a martyrred. Now this is the second time that we

Speaker 2: read about our brother being martyred in the scripture. The

Speaker 2: first one was Stephen. Now here's James. Now here's a

Speaker 2: truth that we don't like to talk about. Our faith

Speaker 2: does not guarantee our safety. It doesn't. A lot of
11:55
Speaker 2: people are targeted because of our faith. Now, God allowed

Speaker 2: James to be taken home while Peter would later be delivered.

Speaker 2: God's purposes are higher than our understanding. Why would Peter

Speaker 2: be delivered by an angel. As we read about it,

Speaker 2: the angel's going to come and open up the prison doors,

Speaker 2: and Peter is spared, but James is taken to be
12:30
Speaker 2: with the Lord, the same God, the same church, the

Speaker 2: same season, the different outcomes. This right here reminds us

Speaker 2: God is sovereign. God is not predictable. He will allow
12:48
Speaker 2: one apostle to be killed with the sword, and yet
12:54
Speaker 2: he will rescue another one with the powerful angels. As

Speaker 2: ways are not our ways. Amen. Now here's where people

Speaker 2: applause and support the persecuted church. And thinking about the

Speaker 2: incident with Charlie Kirk, I'm amazed how a person loses

Speaker 2: their lives, loses his life, leaves a wife and family behind,

Speaker 2: and so many people in social media rejoiced, they were happy,
13:35
Speaker 2: they applauded. In Verse three says and because he saw
13:41
Speaker 2: that it pleased the Jews, he persecuted. He persecuted future. Oh,

Speaker 2: I'm sorry, he persecuted farther to seize Peter. Also, let

Speaker 2: me read this again. Lovely Holy Spirit helped me to

Speaker 2: read this and not stumble over this. Hallelujah. And because

Speaker 2: he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further

Speaker 2: to seize Peter. Also, that's that I'm supposed to say,

Speaker 2: right there, I ain'men Now, persecution at this point became

Speaker 2: popular like this king is a murderer, a murderer at heart.

Speaker 2: He's murdering innocent brothers and sisters, and that people are

Speaker 2: getting behind him. Now he is emboldened and encouraged to

Speaker 2: do even more. When oppression gets applause, it usually escalates.

Speaker 2: It's going to escalate. Here, Herod learned something. Hurting the

Speaker 2: church gain him approval. Wow, that's worth saying again. Hurting

Speaker 2: the church can gain political clout, can gain approval from others.

Speaker 2: It's a demonic approval. So we gotta be careful where

Speaker 2: we're getting our approval from. Wow. Now it was during

Speaker 2: the day of unloving bread with sel verse three. Now

Speaker 2: the timing is ironic here, Right, a season celebrating deliverance

Speaker 2: now used to imprison a deliverer. Right. Religion without relationship

Speaker 2: often misuses the moment. Peter is secured here in verse four.

Speaker 2: So when he had arrested him, he put him in

Speaker 2: prison and delivered him to force squads of soldiers to

Speaker 2: keep him. Wow.

Speaker 2: Really, it took sixteen soldiers to guard Peter. They gave

Speaker 2: this man a squadron, now a sign of extreme caution

Speaker 2: due to pass escapes. Right right, This wasn't just imprisonment,

Speaker 2: it was overkilled. They gave him chains, guards, and they

Speaker 2: were all on different schedules to watch him twenty four

Speaker 2: to seven. So this shows you right here that this

Speaker 2: man did everything possible to secure Peter, intending to bring

Speaker 2: him before the people after the passover. Now, Herod delayed

Speaker 2: execution for a particular reason. He wanted him to be

Speaker 2: a spectacle. But delay in man's plan often becomes space

Speaker 2: for God to move. So that's a good one to

Speaker 2: ponder right there, right, And there's the delay in man's

Speaker 2: plan that often means that God is moving. So sometimes

Speaker 2: we got to rejoice that things are being delayed. Hallelujah. Well,

Speaker 2: actually we need to rejoice at all times, is what

Speaker 2: the word says. Now, let's look at how the church

Speaker 2: responds here. In verse five, Peter was therefore kept in prison,

Speaker 2: but consistent prayer was offered to God for him by

Speaker 2: the church. Hallelujah. Now this verse is the height of

Speaker 2: this chapter. Everything that follows flows from the church's prayer.

Speaker 2: How important it is to have a prayer life. How

Speaker 2: important it is to join a church that praise, to

Speaker 2: follow a pastor that praise, to follow spiritual leaders that

Speaker 2: have a prayer life. If you're minister, your pastor, or

Speaker 2: a Bible study leader or whoever, if they don't have

Speaker 2: a prayer life, do not follow. If I'm not a

Speaker 2: man of prayer, don't follow me. If I'm just on

Speaker 2: this podcast just to gain popularity and whatever, and I'm

Speaker 2: not going before the throne. Hey, I give you permission

Speaker 2: didn't come and try to storm the prison to rescue Peter.

Speaker 2: The church did not panic. They didn't just run for

Speaker 2: their heels, and they didn't scatter shrieking out of fear.

Speaker 2: But they prayed, and prayer is not the last resort.

Speaker 2: It's the first response of a healthy church. Let me

Speaker 2: they'll pray after they've exhausted every other option. And sometimes

Speaker 2: they're like, oh, wow, isn't that bad we need to pray. No,

Speaker 2: prayer should be our first line of defense. It should

Speaker 2: be our first response when it comes to opposition in

Speaker 2: get back into alignment. And so that's what the Accountability
