- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schreeger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, Everybody, Welcome to
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Season with Peter Schreger. We're about the midway point
- 0:29Speaker 1: of the twenty twenty four NFL season. I'm Peter Schreger.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I host Good Morning Football NFL Network. I also am
- 0:35Speaker 1: one of the analysts on Fox NFL Kickoff on Sundays,
- 0:39Speaker 1: and at the midway point of the season, I always
- 0:42Speaker 1: like to take a second to look around see who's
- 0:45Speaker 1: doing what, who's been a surprise, who's been a disappointment,
- 0:49Speaker 1: and also what the story of the week is. And
- 0:51Speaker 1: this week we go to Indianapolis, a place where Pat
- 0:55Speaker 1: McAfee usually is the voice of reason and where we
- 0:58Speaker 1: have such luminaries as Bob Kravitz over the years and
- 1:02Speaker 1: Steven Holder, and I like to parachute in once in
- 1:05Speaker 1: a while to my two cents on a situation, and
- 1:08Speaker 1: this Anthony Richardson deal is worthy of a monologue. I
- 1:11Speaker 1: think because I sit in a role as a national
- 1:15Speaker 1: follower slash insiders slash analyst of those sport as a
- 1:19Speaker 1: morning show host, I do this five days a week,
- 1:23Speaker 1: three hours a day, and as a Sunday Insider, I
- 1:26Speaker 1: am trying to text everyone I can within every organization
- 1:29Speaker 1: to get some new piece of news. I've never never
- 1:34Speaker 1: in my life in football seen a quarterback tap out
- 1:38Speaker 1: of a play and walk off the field. And then
- 1:41Speaker 1: in the post game, as Anthony Richardson did did say,
- 1:44Speaker 1: I was just exhausted. I needed a playoff. The response
- 1:49Speaker 1: from X players is what's so fascinating, because I like
- 1:54Speaker 1: to think I've got a pulse of the league, a
- 1:55Speaker 1: pulse of the game, and a pulse of how people
- 1:58Speaker 1: would react. And I think a lot of people afterwards
- 2:01Speaker 1: were like, that is an atrocity, and that is something
- 2:05Speaker 1: that can be done. And I take it with more
- 2:08Speaker 1: irrational thinking. I'm like, oh, relax, he needed a playoff.
- 2:12Speaker 1: He just ran around thirty yards. And even Brian Flores
- 2:15Speaker 1: this week came out was like, did you see the play?
- 2:17Speaker 1: He was And I figured, all right, voices of reason
- 2:20Speaker 1: will come out. I couldn't have been more off every
- 2:25Speaker 1: X player that I speak with, every position. It was
- 2:29Speaker 1: as if what this guy did tapping his helmet was
- 2:32Speaker 1: breaking some unwritten rule that is just a line too far,
- 2:39Speaker 1: a crime to humanity on the football field. To tap out,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and that if you do one thing as a player,
- 2:46Speaker 1: you show toughness and you fight it out, and if
- 2:49Speaker 1: you do one thing as a player, you grinn and Barrett,
- 2:51Speaker 1: And if you do one thing as a player, you
- 2:54Speaker 1: fight and crawl and get through it so that they
- 2:57Speaker 1: can never take you off the field. Chase Daniel was
- 3:01Speaker 1: near tears on Monday, and I'm like in my head,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, come on, stop being so dramatic, dude.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And yet unanimously I talk to these ex players over
- 3:10Speaker 1: text and they're like, oh, no, that guy's done. I
- 3:13Speaker 1: can't I would never No, Like I can't look in
- 3:15Speaker 1: the huddle again. I'm like, really, it's one of those
- 3:18Speaker 1: rare instances where the delta between me, as you know, analyst, insider,
- 3:25Speaker 1: et cetera, thinking I've got a feel for everything in
- 3:27Speaker 1: football can still be surprised twenty years into this thing
- 3:30Speaker 1: by the ex players who are so taken aback. And
- 3:34Speaker 1: if you think X players have a voice, I am
- 3:36Speaker 1: sure the text chains of current players is probably vibrant
- 3:40Speaker 1: as well. Is it a forgivable mistake? I would like
- 3:47Speaker 1: to think so. Here was Colt center Ryan Kelly responding
- 3:53Speaker 1: to the Anthony richardson tap of the helmet calling out
- 3:56Speaker 1: of a game on Sunday.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think you know, we had a
- 4:00Speaker 2: conversation about it, and you know, I think you noticed
- 4:02Speaker 2: not the standard that you know that he needs to
- 4:03Speaker 2: play up to and the rest of the team holds
- 4:05Speaker 2: them too, And kind of leave the conversation that we
- 4:07Speaker 2: had at that. But you know, I'm sure he's gonna
- 4:11Speaker 2: take some criticism for that. It's just rightfully so right.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I mean, that's a tough, tough look. But I'm also
- 4:16Speaker 2: you know, he's out there giving it all for his team, right,
- 4:19Speaker 2: and it's not always pretty sometimes, you know, an offensive
- 4:22Speaker 2: loll the last couple of weeks, you know, just having
- 4:24Speaker 2: a hard time getting going at times.
- 4:25Speaker 3: I thought we did some good things in the game.
- 4:27Speaker 2: But if anybody ever questions how hard he plays, I
- 4:30Speaker 2: don't think that that's the case. I mean, if you
- 4:32Speaker 2: watch this film, you know, surely you know we didn't
- 4:35Speaker 2: move the ball effectively at times. But I mean he's
- 4:38Speaker 2: giving it everything for his teammates. So he's young. I'm
- 4:41Speaker 2: sure it's a learning moment for him. And leave at that.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I listened to a guy like Kelly who is a
- 4:48Speaker 1: longtime veteran on that team who has not had a
- 4:51Speaker 1: ton of success. I think of Quentin Nelson, who's now
- 4:54Speaker 1: been there since the sa Quon Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson,
- 4:58Speaker 1: Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield draft and thinking about the lack
- 5:01Speaker 1: of success he's had in his career. I think of
- 5:03Speaker 1: Chris Ballard, who's been the GM for eight years and
- 5:06Speaker 1: it's had just about every different player in the NFL
- 5:09Speaker 1: suit up as quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts in that
- 5:12Speaker 1: time span since Andrew Luck abruptly retired from the game.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I think about all those guys, and now we have
- 5:19Speaker 1: Joe Flacco at quarterback again in Indianapolis. And there's two
- 5:24Speaker 1: ways to look at this. One of them is always
- 5:28Speaker 1: play the best player, get him out there. And if
- 5:31Speaker 1: you think Joe Flacco gives you the best chance to
- 5:33Speaker 1: win in Indianapolis tapping of the helmet or not, you
- 5:37Speaker 1: play Joe Flacco. He's earned that. Or you think of
- 5:40Speaker 1: it long term and you think about the potential long
- 5:44Speaker 1: term damage of benching a player like Anthony Richardson, a
- 5:48Speaker 1: fourth overall pick who's very green, who I think started
- 5:52Speaker 1: thirteen games at the University of Florida, and you think
- 5:55Speaker 1: about does this scar him forever? I do want to
- 5:59Speaker 1: poke a hole in that ladder thinking because there's a
- 6:02Speaker 1: lot of people who say that, how could you bench
- 6:04Speaker 1: the kid? And what's the point You're not winning the
- 6:06Speaker 1: Super Bow? Why would you put Flacco in? There used
- 6:10Speaker 1: to be a time where quarterbacks were allowed to be
- 6:12Speaker 1: benched without everyone being in hysterics over it. I think
- 6:16Speaker 1: this is a redux of my monologue when Bryce Young
- 6:18Speaker 1: was benched and everyone put on, you know, their their
- 6:23Speaker 1: white dresses and clutched their pearls and said, how dare
- 6:27Speaker 1: we the humanity, the inhumanity, the cruelty of benching a quarterback.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I grew up a Giants fan. Phil Simms was benched
- 6:37Speaker 1: for Scott Brunner. I work with Terry Bradshaw. Terry Bradshaw
- 6:42Speaker 1: had to fight and claw to become the starting quarterback
- 6:44Speaker 1: of the Pittsburgh Steelers after losing his job as a
- 6:47Speaker 1: first overall pick. The NFL history books are littered with
- 6:53Speaker 1: situations where early draft picks had to fight for their job.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Do you realize that Troy Aikman was the first overall
- 7:00Speaker 1: pick and was fighting with Steve Walsh for a gig
- 7:04Speaker 1: because Steve Walsh was who Jimmy Johnson at Miami and
- 7:07Speaker 1: they got him in the supplemental draft, and Steve Walsh
- 7:10Speaker 1: and a lot of Cowboys fans was the opinions of
- 7:13Speaker 1: the better option than Troy Aikman, and that Steve Walsh
- 7:16Speaker 1: got a ton of starts. Steve McNair didn't start that
- 7:19Speaker 1: first year, Chris Chandler did. And when Steve McNair went
- 7:22Speaker 1: in and struggled, they would consider going to Chandler. Michael
- 7:24Speaker 1: Vick didn't start that first year, Chris Chandler did, same
- 7:27Speaker 1: side of thing. They would go back and forth. It
- 7:30Speaker 1: wasn't always this case where once you start the rookie,
- 7:33Speaker 1: it's just let him take the wheel and drive and
- 7:35Speaker 1: just we gotta just go through the pen, and gosh,
- 7:37Speaker 1: if you bench him, you know, can you imagine the
- 7:40Speaker 1: psychological drama that will go down if he has to
- 7:43Speaker 1: go back on the bench. I think in this instance,
- 7:46Speaker 1: tapping the helmet might have been what did him in
- 7:48Speaker 1: in the end. But I also think in this instance
- 7:51Speaker 1: they see it every day. Joe Flacco gives those veterans
- 7:55Speaker 1: and those players in the room a better chance to win,
- 7:57Speaker 1: just as in Carolina. When Andy Dalton was inserted for
- 8:01Speaker 1: Bryce Young, there was no great outcry. And when the
- 8:05Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers won that game coming out of that thing,
- 8:08Speaker 1: the game ball was given to Dave Kanalis, the head coach,
- 8:10Speaker 1: for that gutsy decision. I have no problem with the
- 8:14Speaker 1: Indianapolis Colts going to Joe Flacco, and I have no
- 8:16Speaker 1: problem with the door being left open for Anthony Richardson
- 8:19Speaker 1: to come back into the lineup at some point. I
- 8:21Speaker 1: don't know when we got to this point in the
- 8:23Speaker 1: NFL's quarterback process and progression of development. Deal is that
- 8:27Speaker 1: once you get the starting nod, you can never be replaced.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Once upon a time, quarterbacks did get replaced, and in
- 8:33Speaker 1: this case, whether you believe Anthony Richardson is the inferior
- 8:37Speaker 1: quarterback to Joe Flacco or not, the Colts coaching staff
- 8:41Speaker 1: obviously doesn't want to bench their starter. They're doing this
- 8:44Speaker 1: for a reason. They see a light, they see a
- 8:46Speaker 1: chance to win, and they see Joe Flacco as the
- 8:49Speaker 1: better way to get there. That's Indianapolis. I have not
- 8:53Speaker 1: been in Indiapolis since the combine. I couldn't tell you
- 8:56Speaker 1: what the pulse of the fans are there. I live
- 8:59Speaker 1: in New York. I'm here every day. New York is
- 9:03Speaker 1: going through one of the great pendulum moments in sports fandom.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Let me take you through it. The Knicks had just
- 9:10Speaker 1: traded for Karl Anthony Towns, the Rangers were starting their season,
- 9:14Speaker 1: the Liberty were winning the Championship, and the Mets and
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yankees were both in the playoffs. The Giants were fresh
- 9:21Speaker 1: off of win over Seattle, and the Jets had just
- 9:23Speaker 1: beaten the Patriots. This was all about a month ago.
- 9:27Speaker 1: In the last few weeks, the Jets cannot find a win.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Greg'szer line cannot kick the ball through it upright, and
- 9:34Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers looks like a forty one year old quarterback
- 9:37Speaker 1: coming off of an achilles injury. The Giants cannot find
- 9:40Speaker 1: a touchdown if they were paid to do so. Daniel
- 9:43Speaker 1: Jones can't win in prime time. Both teams are two
- 9:46Speaker 1: and six and in the very basement of their standings.
- 9:49Speaker 1: The Mets have since been eliminated, and the Yankees had
- 9:53Speaker 1: lost three games to start the World Series to the
- 9:57Speaker 1: former crosstown rivals, them Bums, the Brooklyn Dodgers. And yet,
- 10:02Speaker 1: as we record this on a Wednesday morning, there is
- 10:06Speaker 1: a glimmer of hope, a glimmer of light. The Yankees
- 10:11Speaker 1: got the best of the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.
- 10:16Speaker 1: The Giants can play spoiler to the Washington Commanders this weekend,
- 10:20Speaker 1: and the Jets host the Texans and are somehow favorites
- 10:24Speaker 1: on Thursday evening. I don't know when you're listening to this,
- 10:28Speaker 1: and you might be listening to it over the weekend,
- 10:30Speaker 1: but we're here on a Wednesday morning. We're recording here,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and I felt like there was no better guests to
- 10:35Speaker 1: bring on than the guy whose podcast I listened to
- 10:38Speaker 1: when I wake up after a big New York sports moment.
- 10:42Speaker 1: This used to be the Mike Francessa Chris Russo slot.
- 10:46Speaker 1: This used to be no matter what, I'm listening to
- 10:49Speaker 1: Francessa and I'm finding a way. I have now since
- 10:52Speaker 1: been converted to a JJ guy. That might be my
- 10:55Speaker 1: allegiance to Bill Simmons and the Ringer. It might be
- 10:58Speaker 1: my allegiance to talent and quality. He's also a Dolphins fan.
- 11:02Speaker 1: But just wait till you get the thick New York
- 11:05Speaker 1: accent and the entire JJ Jastremsky experience. John Jastremsky's our guest.
- 11:13Speaker 1: He's gonna give us the pulse of New York right
- 11:15Speaker 1: after this. All right, our guest is one of my
- 11:25Speaker 1: favorite people in sports media. We've become friends over the
- 11:27Speaker 1: last few years. He's a fellow Brooklyn resident, and I
- 11:32Speaker 1: think he's now the voice of New York sports. I
- 11:35Speaker 1: see him on S and Y in a suit and
- 11:37Speaker 1: tie like a gentleman, and then I see him on
- 11:40Speaker 1: the Ringer podcast New York New York, which has been coming.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I go to destination every morning after these Yankees and
- 11:46Speaker 1: Mets games, and he's dressed like the casual fan that
- 11:49Speaker 1: I know he has deep in his heart. It is JJ,
- 11:52Speaker 1: mister John Jastremsk JJ. What's up man, Trex? Thanks for
- 11:57Speaker 1: the con introduction number one, number two. Thanks for listening.
- 12:01Speaker 4: It's been super fun over the last month, really over
- 12:04Speaker 4: the last twelve months into all these fun, fascinating New
- 12:09Speaker 4: York sports angles and hey, we live to die another day.
- 12:13Speaker 4: I think Simmons booked me after Game four thinking shrikes
- 12:18Speaker 4: he was gonna get a sleep. Anthony Vaulpi and Austin
- 12:21Speaker 4: Wells had o their plans, but we're fired up, man.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Thanks for having me.
- 12:24Speaker 1: We're recording this on Wednesday mornings, So if you're listening
- 12:27Speaker 1: now and it's Thursday or Friday or Saturday, I that's
- 12:30Speaker 1: old news. The Dodgers won. Okay, let me get this
- 12:33Speaker 1: moment in time for us as Yankees people and as
- 12:37Speaker 1: New Yorkers. They're down three to zero. I was in
- 12:40Speaker 1: the building on Tuesday night. It was as dark and
- 12:44Speaker 1: depressing a place. I'm sorry, Monday night, it was as
- 12:46Speaker 1: dark and depressing a place as you could imagine. Walking
- 12:48Speaker 1: out of there, taking the four train home, just selling faces.
- 12:52Speaker 1: We're gonna get swept by the Dodgers. They're gonna do
- 12:54Speaker 1: a champagne parade on the field on the Yankee Stadium,
- 12:57Speaker 1: and it's another series that's gonna end with the opposing
- 13:00Speaker 1: team celebrating in this stadium. And then Tuesday night, after
- 13:04Speaker 1: being down two to one, gets it going. They put
- 13:08Speaker 1: the runs on the board and then they pile it
- 13:10Speaker 1: on to Honeywell late. And I know this is traditionally
- 13:13Speaker 1: a football podcast, but like you feel it in New
- 13:16Speaker 1: York in a way that I can't explain it. As
- 13:19Speaker 1: we record this at noon on Wednesday, that like it's
- 13:22Speaker 1: almost the guys having a cardiac event, and he gets
- 13:25Speaker 1: to the fibrillators and suddenly the city's alive again. And
- 13:31Speaker 1: you were in the building Monday. You're gonna be in
- 13:33Speaker 1: the building tonight. Take us to the ethos of a
- 13:36Speaker 1: New York sports fan as you're hitting the brink of
- 13:39Speaker 1: extinction and then you got one last fight. We're not
- 13:41Speaker 1: dead yet.
- 13:43Speaker 4: I think you nailed the range of emotions that you've
- 13:46Speaker 4: had within Yankee fans shrikes.
- 13:48Speaker 3: And you know this, You've lived in New York City
- 13:50Speaker 3: a long long time. We're in Brooklyn.
- 13:52Speaker 4: There is a different viob There is a different buzz
- 13:56Speaker 4: when you have teams in the baseball playoffs going deeper
- 13:59Speaker 4: and deeper into the playoffs. Right like you're walking around.
- 14:02Speaker 4: You saw all the med hats a week two ago.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Now you've seen all the Yankee hats out about. And
- 14:08Speaker 4: the new Yankee Stadium doesn't necessarily rock the way the
- 14:13Speaker 4: old plays did. Now that said, Game three, you were there.
- 14:16Speaker 4: I was there thirty minutes before the game. Legend seats packed,
- 14:21Speaker 4: every seat packed, everybody is rip rawing, ready to go,
- 14:25Speaker 4: Jeter throwing out the first pitch, the awful Fat Joe concert.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Dude, it was so bad and I want Joe. This
- 14:33Speaker 1: is the anti fat I think it's still going. I
- 14:36Speaker 1: think it was mean to the viewers and listeners at home,
- 14:39Speaker 1: the high after Derek Jeter throws out a first pitch
- 14:42Speaker 1: and his shirt and tie and is hugging his daughter's
- 14:45Speaker 1: Generations of Yankees fans in tears over this moment of
- 14:48Speaker 1: Jeter throwing out this first pitch at Yankee Stadium in
- 14:52Speaker 1: the World Series, and then to answer the ice Cube concert,
- 14:55Speaker 1: which was a home run game too, the Yankees trot
- 14:58Speaker 1: out that Joe who's in New York and Bronx legend,
- 15:01Speaker 1: but he's kind of on the pitching mound and you're like,
- 15:04Speaker 1: don't go on the mound, and then it piss goes
- 15:06Speaker 1: on and on and on, and it's the vibe did
- 15:10Speaker 1: have a certain feel at the Jeter moment, and I
- 15:12Speaker 1: was like, let's play ball.
- 15:13Speaker 3: And then there was the concert.
- 15:15Speaker 4: Yeah, no question, and it was the perfect time for
- 15:17Speaker 4: me to say, all right, I'm gonna go get myself
- 15:19Speaker 4: some food and a cocktail and be in my seat
- 15:20Speaker 4: and ready to go. And I was there for the
- 15:22Speaker 4: first pitch, but like all of that emotion went completely
- 15:26Speaker 4: out the window when Freddie Freeman goes Yachtzi and it
- 15:30Speaker 4: was no doubt the minute the ball left his bat,
- 15:32Speaker 4: it was leaving the yard. Judge strikes out in the
- 15:34Speaker 4: first inning and it's like, oh, here we go. This
- 15:37Speaker 4: game is an absolute dud, and Peter it felt like
- 15:40Speaker 4: it was gonna go that way again in Game four,
- 15:44Speaker 4: where it's like this guy's gonna do it again.
- 15:46Speaker 3: He homers in his fourth straight World Series Game six.
- 15:49Speaker 4: If you go back to the two we had with
- 15:51Speaker 4: the Atlanta Braves back in twenty twenty one, but I
- 15:54Speaker 4: kind of hit on this doing the pot after Game three,
- 15:58Speaker 4: show some fight, show some pride.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Don't allow the Dodgers to go and celebrate on your field.
- 16:04Speaker 4: And for one night, it's the line of the Jersey
- 16:08Speaker 4: kid who idolized Derek Jeter, who's now playing shortstop for
- 16:13Speaker 4: the New York Yankees, who has a base running blunder
- 16:16Speaker 4: in his second inning that you think is going to
- 16:18Speaker 4: be costly. Everybody forgets about that. When the ball leaves
- 16:22Speaker 4: his bat, it's a grand slam.
- 16:23Speaker 3: People are throwing beer in the air.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Then he's stealing a bunch of bases, and now it's like, hey,
- 16:29Speaker 4: can they go and get another one?
- 16:31Speaker 3: That's the way I'm kind of looking at this, Peter.
- 16:32Speaker 4: I'm not like, hey, the Yankees are winning this series,
- 16:34Speaker 4: or hey they can get can they get it back.
- 16:37Speaker 3: To La That's what I ask.
- 16:39Speaker 1: And you went into this on your podcast, which I'm
- 16:42Speaker 1: telling you is appointment listening, even if you're not a
- 16:45Speaker 1: New York sportsman, just to get the pulse in the morning.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Take us through the history of other teams dancing and
- 16:51Speaker 1: celebrating and doing champagne showers in this building.
- 16:54Speaker 4: So it went in the old Yankee Stadium for like
- 16:57Speaker 4: an eternity when nobody had celebrated on the field. I
- 17:00Speaker 4: think it was eighty one the Dodgers did, and then
- 17:02Speaker 4: the next celebration was Beckett on three days rest.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Whicheverone adult was the most insane. Think about that general move.
- 17:09Speaker 4: Ever, three days rest, and Peter, they were up three
- 17:13Speaker 4: to two in the series. But mckeanny's smoking cigars and
- 17:16Speaker 4: he's like, nah, man, Will had to rip. We're not
- 17:19Speaker 4: getting to a Game seven at Yankee Stadium. And we
- 17:21Speaker 4: know what happened. But then there started to be this
- 17:24Speaker 4: sort of hey, way too many teams to celebrate at
- 17:26Speaker 4: Yankee Stadium. Red Sox SO four, Cleveland and seven and
- 17:30Speaker 4: in the new stadium. It's happened way too often. Tiger's
- 17:34Speaker 4: in eleven. I was there for that Astros in fifteen
- 17:37Speaker 4: Wildcard game. I was there for that eighteen the Red
- 17:41Speaker 4: Sox on what was a bang bang play and they
- 17:43Speaker 4: go to replay and it was like literally they had
- 17:45Speaker 4: like a bang bang Laberg Juniez ground bawl.
- 17:49Speaker 3: We saw the replay. I looked at my wife and
- 17:50Speaker 3: my sister, I go get up, will we even down?
- 17:53Speaker 3: I'm not gonna watch this. It's over. And then it
- 17:56Speaker 3: happened in twenty twenty two with the Astros.
- 17:58Speaker 4: So what I'm getting at here is it's happened way
- 18:00Speaker 4: too much for a franchise that shouldn't necessarily be allowing
- 18:05Speaker 4: these sort of self obrations to happen on their field
- 18:08Speaker 4: in front of their fans.
- 18:09Speaker 3: So I don't want to see it in Game five
- 18:11Speaker 3: with the Dodgers.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been such a good series. I actually was
- 18:15Speaker 1: really impressed with the Dodger fan turnout. It's been pretty
- 18:18Speaker 1: civil too. I mean again, they were up three to
- 18:20Speaker 1: zero when I was there, but they not only have
- 18:23Speaker 1: shown their faces, they've come in mass and in my
- 18:26Speaker 1: section at least, and I was sitting up in the
- 18:28Speaker 1: two hundreds. I'm not a Howdy Toddy. I'm in the
- 18:31Speaker 1: legend syat or anything like that, and I'm not in
- 18:32Speaker 1: the press box and I don't cover baseball. There were
- 18:35Speaker 1: a lot of Dodgers fans and they were confidently walking
- 18:38Speaker 1: around there's no danger or harm and maybe tonight it'll
- 18:40Speaker 1: be a little different in the park where I'll be
- 18:42Speaker 1: going and so will you. But like, it's kind of
- 18:45Speaker 1: cool seeing these two teams, traditional franchises, and of course
- 18:47Speaker 1: the history with the Brooklyn Dodgers moving out that there
- 18:50Speaker 1: is this fan base that either A flew in or b.
- 18:52Speaker 1: There are a lot of New York City and New
- 18:53Speaker 1: York Area Dodger fans that still exists from generations to go.
- 18:57Speaker 3: It's badass.
- 18:58Speaker 4: And you know, Peter, for the last seven years, you've
- 19:01Speaker 4: been taking Yankees Dodgers like this goes back to twenty
- 19:05Speaker 4: seventeen when the Dodgers took care of the Cubs and
- 19:09Speaker 4: the Yankees miraculously won three straight games against the Astros,
- 19:13Speaker 4: and you're like, wow, twenty seventeen, we're gonna get it.
- 19:16Speaker 4: It's gonna be Dodgers, it's gonna be Yankees. Just like
- 19:18Speaker 4: the old times. And every year since it's been like
- 19:22Speaker 4: this preseason narrative, this mid season narrative that you don't
- 19:28Speaker 4: get the payout. We finally got the payout this year.
- 19:32Speaker 4: And it's awesome, man. I mean, all the star power,
- 19:36Speaker 4: all the history. You know, we didn't live through the
- 19:38Speaker 4: forties and the fifties in Brooklyn.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 19:43Speaker 4: We don't even have memories of Reggie Jackson and Great
- 19:47Speaker 4: Nettles and Mike Torres were of a different generation. So
- 19:50Speaker 4: to kind of rekindle that with the Yankees and the Dodgers, Yeah,
- 19:54Speaker 4: it's it's good for baseball, it's good for New York
- 19:56Speaker 4: and LA. And you kind of nailed it all of
- 19:59Speaker 4: these games, despite the three to one sort of margin
- 20:02Speaker 4: outside of Game four, and even Game four because it
- 20:05Speaker 4: was a lot of window dressing. It was a close
- 20:07Speaker 4: game until the Yankees blow it open. All these games
- 20:10Speaker 4: at least have been coming down.
- 20:12Speaker 3: At a wire. It's not been a one sided series,
- 20:14Speaker 3: if that makes sense.
- 20:15Speaker 1: And it's been really cool. Aesthetically. I always love the
- 20:18Speaker 1: Rose Bowl because you see in the Rose Bowl when
- 20:22Speaker 1: it's USC versus UCLA, you see the sun setting and
- 20:25Speaker 1: you see those beautiful uniforms of the USC the red
- 20:29Speaker 1: in the gold, and then of course you get the
- 20:32Speaker 1: UCLA with the blue and the gold, and it just
- 20:34Speaker 1: looks great together. Before Game four, we're out there in
- 20:38Speaker 1: the stands and both teams in their full uniforms, the
- 20:42Speaker 1: pinstripes on the Yankees and the gorgeous gray and blue
- 20:44Speaker 1: of the Dodgers. It's on the field with that pristine field.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I hate to get poetic about sports, sounds like moneyball,
- 20:50Speaker 1: but to see those uniforms, those crisp colors, like it's
- 20:54Speaker 1: really traditional. We don't have some zany team with purple
- 20:57Speaker 1: logos and crazy throwback third uniforms. Like it's Yankees Dodgers,
- 21:02Speaker 1: and that's the way it should be.
- 21:03Speaker 4: And you know, I went out Shrigs in nineteen Yankees
- 21:08Speaker 4: played the Dodgers. I think was their first time back
- 21:10Speaker 4: at Dodgers Stadium in a while because now interleague play
- 21:13Speaker 4: they play every single year.
- 21:14Speaker 3: But this was like finally long overdue with getting this
- 21:17Speaker 3: in the regular.
- 21:18Speaker 4: Season, and they wore those hideous players weekend jerseys, so
- 21:22Speaker 4: like the Yankees were wearing black, and you couldn't even
- 21:25Speaker 4: read the Dodger blue logo because it was like an
- 21:28Speaker 4: all white I'm like, this is Yankees Dodgers.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Do we have to do?
- 21:31Speaker 4: We have to ruin the beautiful aesthetic with these dopey
- 21:34Speaker 4: uniforms that neither one of these teams is gonna wear.
- 21:37Speaker 4: So yeah, dude, like it's just it's like Americana, It's
- 21:40Speaker 4: like the way it should be.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Yankees Dodgers the uniforms. And I'm sure Fox, your your.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Buddies and Fox are drawing over the fact that they
- 21:48Speaker 4: get more baseball with this serious let's go.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I'm sure they'd like it to go seven and to
- 21:53Speaker 1: midnight on Saturday night, Game seven with something happening.
- 21:56Speaker 3: I don't go right into you guys doing the pregame show.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Want to be up, We'll be ready. I'll be battling
- 22:00Speaker 1: you and cousin Sally and the Ringer gambling show. We'll
- 22:03Speaker 1: be welling right up against you guys. It'll be perfect.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna say a couple names and you just do
- 22:08Speaker 1: your spiel on what you think. Aaron Judge right now,
- 22:10Speaker 1: your thoughts.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Mister June. Love him.
- 22:14Speaker 4: He's an all time Yankee. He's got a record, He's
- 22:17Speaker 4: gonna set more records. He's gonna win more MVPs.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Peter.
- 22:21Speaker 4: You know how it is, when you're the captain of
- 22:23Speaker 4: the Yankees, what you do from April to September doesn't
- 22:28Speaker 4: mean as much as what you do in the month
- 22:31Speaker 4: of October. And this is ridiculously unfair because I'd argue
- 22:35Speaker 4: you're a Fox colleague. Mister Jeter is probably one of
- 22:38Speaker 4: the most clutch players I've seen in any sport. And
- 22:42Speaker 4: the amazing thing about Jeter is, you know, you see
- 22:44Speaker 4: great athletes, right whether it's Michael Jordan or Tom Brady,
- 22:48Speaker 4: they're kind of exemplary regular season their exemplary postseason. Jun
- 22:52Speaker 4: is a first bout Hall of Famer, but he actually
- 22:55Speaker 4: raised his level of play in the biggest of games,
- 23:00Speaker 4: and Judge has not done that. He needs to do
- 23:03Speaker 4: that for the I know I'm getting cliche. It matters, man,
- 23:09Speaker 4: when you're the captain of the Yankees, you gotta perform
- 23:11Speaker 4: in October.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Case closed. I look at the scoreboard the other night
- 23:14Speaker 1: and they just listed his height and weight. He's six eight,
- 23:17Speaker 1: two eighty and he hit fifty eight home runs this
- 23:20Speaker 1: year And it's like, brother, that stuff's all in the past.
- 23:24Speaker 1: If you could have a postseason moment, if you could
- 23:26Speaker 1: have a World Series moment, if you could have a
- 23:28Speaker 1: big home run that puts this team over the top. Like,
- 23:31Speaker 1: that's what Matt, that's what you know. I know his
- 23:35Speaker 1: history and his post playing career was littered with other stuff.
- 23:37Speaker 1: But like Jim Lyrits is forever a Giant's legend, a
- 23:40Speaker 1: Yankees legend, forever, forever. You got fans who would say
- 23:44Speaker 1: Scott Brocchus is forever a Yankees legend. For that series
- 23:47Speaker 1: against the Padre is, Like that's when we remember this
- 23:50Speaker 1: stuff because I guess all the other stuff gets diluted.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Yes he's a Hall of Famer, and yes he's an MVP,
- 23:55Speaker 1: and yes, all this stuff, but without that October moment
- 23:58Speaker 1: for Yankees fans, they're spoiled like they need the October.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Well, and that's what you judged on. That's what Yankee
- 24:04Speaker 3: captains a judge on. That's what monument mark.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Yankees are judged one and hey, Deckie, Matt sue he's
- 24:09Speaker 4: throwing out the first pitching game five.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Now, Matt series is a tremendous, tremendous Yankee. But I
- 24:14Speaker 3: mean that World.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Series not starting three games in Philadelphia and homering basically
- 24:19Speaker 4: every single time.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I mean, that's what you're judged Onne, So got it.
- 24:24Speaker 3: It's time for Aaron Judge to go and do it.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so Aaron Judge, Another Aaron, Aaron Boone. Where's
- 24:39Speaker 1: he stand right now with Yankees fans?
- 24:41Speaker 4: So right now, mister Boone needs to go and win
- 24:44Speaker 4: a World Series to be fully embraced, and he is
- 24:48Speaker 4: going to have job security.
- 24:50Speaker 3: He has jobs. He probably has had more job.
- 24:52Speaker 4: Security than Supreme Court justices because there are a couple
- 24:56Speaker 4: of years, Peter, where the Yankees easily could have been
- 25:00Speaker 4: within their rights to go and make a managerial change,
- 25:02Speaker 4: losing a wildcard game, that the Red Sox getting swept
- 25:05Speaker 4: by the astros Hey. Last year, they missed the postseason
- 25:09Speaker 4: all together. Now, positives for Aaron Boone. Guys love them,
- 25:13Speaker 4: there's no getting around that his clubhouse absolutely adores them.
- 25:17Speaker 4: But there's a sense of baseball IQ and fundamentals that
- 25:23Speaker 4: have been lacking from even a team that's gone to
- 25:25Speaker 4: the World Series this year. I mean, we saw last
- 25:27Speaker 4: night with Volpi, they made two key eras in Game
- 25:31Speaker 4: one that I think were lost in the shuffle by
- 25:34Speaker 4: his terrible managerial decision to go with nest de Cortez
- 25:37Speaker 4: over Tim Hill. But I think Boone is the sort
- 25:40Speaker 4: of manager that, yes, is going to be back next
- 25:42Speaker 4: year because the Yankees are in the World Series. They
- 25:44Speaker 4: did something they haven't done in fifteen years. But there's
- 25:48Speaker 4: a massive Yeah. But where Joe Torri won Girardi in
- 25:53Speaker 4: his second year one, you're the manager of the Yankees
- 25:56Speaker 4: for a long period of time and you don't have
- 25:58Speaker 4: a World Series championship, Peter. You don't get that sort
- 26:01Speaker 4: of job security in most places, you know, especially with
- 26:04Speaker 4: a franchise that used to fire managers like there was
- 26:06Speaker 4: no tomorrow.
- 26:07Speaker 3: So he's not exactly a beloved figure. You win and
- 26:11Speaker 3: that changes, yeah.
- 26:12Speaker 4: Uh.
- 26:13Speaker 1: And of course we grew up in the Billy Martin
- 26:15Speaker 1: era where Steinbrenner would fire higher Billy Martin every other year,
- 26:19Speaker 1: and you had some some different stump Merrills and don
- 26:21Speaker 1: Zimmers all the way up until we finally had Joe
- 26:24Speaker 1: Torre as the manager. The last name I'm going to
- 26:28Speaker 1: give you before we end on Yankees and quickly hit
- 26:30Speaker 1: some some New York football. Does the name Austin Copa
- 26:34Speaker 1: Bianco mean anything to you?
- 26:37Speaker 4: So?
- 26:38Speaker 1: Is that the guy?
- 26:39Speaker 3: This just a guess here, This is just a guess.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Is that the gentleman who yanked the ball out of
- 26:44Speaker 4: Mookie Bets Clve yesterday?
- 26:46Speaker 1: Of course, let me give you, let me give you,
- 26:49Speaker 1: let me give you some context here. His name is
- 26:51Speaker 1: Austin Copo Bianco, which you could not make up if
- 26:56Speaker 1: you paid me a million dollars based on the image. Uh,
- 27:00Speaker 1: immediately on Good Morning Football, I say that is the
- 27:02Speaker 1: Halloween costume of the year. You're going as Austin Copa
- 27:05Speaker 1: Bianco and his sunglasses at night friend. And immediately everyone's like,
- 27:08Speaker 1: take it down, trigger, how dare you glorify this animal?
- 27:11Speaker 1: I'm like, guy, just to say it. It's a funny
- 27:13Speaker 1: moment in time that said, tweet history or not. And
- 27:17Speaker 1: I don't know where this guy's from or what his
- 27:19Speaker 1: story is. That's his name, and apparently his Twitter handle
- 27:22Speaker 1: leaves a lot to be desired. Where do you come out?
- 27:25Speaker 1: Because Sterling and Waldman last night, we're not too or
- 27:29Speaker 1: none too pleased with that behavior. And yet there are
- 27:31Speaker 1: some Yankee fans, a lot of guys that will see
- 27:33Speaker 1: on the street here. I'll be like that actually kickstarted
- 27:35Speaker 1: the team a little bit.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Hey, listen, if it kickstarts the team, if you tell
- 27:40Speaker 4: me they're going to win an extra games, So we
- 27:42Speaker 4: got to sacrifice one particular fan to every game to
- 27:45Speaker 4: try to get a ball out of Mookie's cloth or
- 27:47Speaker 4: somebody's cloth for that matter. You know, I'm all for it,
- 27:49Speaker 4: but listen, initially watching it, Peter, I was like.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Mookie's in the stands. That's the you know, like you
- 27:57Speaker 3: see you don't see the replay.
- 27:58Speaker 4: So when I first thought is, hey, you go into stands,
- 28:02Speaker 4: that that ball is just as much the fans as
- 28:05Speaker 4: it is the players.
- 28:06Speaker 3: But Mooky clearly caught it and hanging.
- 28:09Speaker 4: And then you got like this sticky You got like
- 28:11Speaker 4: the sticky fingers of the guy trying to get the pot.
- 28:14Speaker 1: It was. It was he had a sliding glove on,
- 28:17Speaker 1: which it is like what like high level high school
- 28:21Speaker 1: players or college or minor league players, which gives me
- 28:23Speaker 1: the feeling that Austin Coppobianco thought at any given moment
- 28:27Speaker 1: he might be inserted into the game, the Yankees might
- 28:29Speaker 1: need him because he had a professional glove on. He's
- 28:32Speaker 1: a four hundred dollars glove on.
- 28:35Speaker 4: It was like Jim Harbaugh. You know, maybe he was
- 28:37Speaker 4: taking notes from Jim Harbaugh and your buddy who brings
- 28:39Speaker 4: the glove to the game. You never know what can
- 28:42Speaker 4: happen when you go to a baseball game. I did
- 28:44Speaker 4: not anticipate, though, that some Yankee fans sticky fingers would
- 28:48Speaker 4: be in mooki BET's hand, and you have the image
- 28:50Speaker 4: that will be seen forever now, Mookie Bets basically like, dude,
- 28:54Speaker 4: get off of me.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Get off of me for goodness sakes.
- 28:57Speaker 1: All right, I know you're a Dolphins fan at heart
- 28:59Speaker 1: and you wear that well. I don't have any Dolphins questions.
- 29:02Speaker 1: If you want to do a Dolphins ninety second.
- 29:04Speaker 4: They're they're gonna lose by thirty to buff Okay, just
- 29:07Speaker 4: put out the bad June Jews so.
- 29:08Speaker 1: That you could be pleasantly surprised. That's fine. I do know, though,
- 29:11Speaker 1: that you host this podcast and you're on sn Y
- 29:13Speaker 1: all the time, and you've been on Wfan, and you've
- 29:16Speaker 1: got this great New York listenership. As fourth Wall is
- 29:21Speaker 1: torn down, are you better as a radio host and
- 29:25Speaker 1: better as a content creator in the Joe Beningo ethos
- 29:30Speaker 1: of the world is melting and they suck and we're
- 29:33Speaker 1: gonna crush these teams. Or is it better when they're
- 29:35Speaker 1: winning football. For you, coming on to the airwaves as
- 29:38Speaker 1: someone who is serving the fans and serving as the
- 29:41Speaker 1: voice of the New York Sports Seed.
- 29:44Speaker 3: This is an easy call for me. It's better when
- 29:47Speaker 3: they're good. It's better when they're good.
- 29:49Speaker 4: Yes, there's elements of fun of how crazy and how
- 29:54Speaker 4: bizarre it can get.
- 29:56Speaker 3: But here's what I know, Peter. If the Jets and
- 29:58Speaker 3: the Giants aren't winning, and right now they're on their way,
- 30:00Speaker 3: the Jets are two and six, how they're favored against
- 30:02Speaker 3: the Euston Texans. I don't know.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Vegas maybe knows a little bit more than me, but
- 30:06Speaker 4: that as it may, you fade into the abyss once
- 30:10Speaker 4: you hit November, December and beyond.
- 30:14Speaker 3: That is not enjoyable.
- 30:16Speaker 4: That is not fun when you were talking about football
- 30:18Speaker 4: teams that are four and eight and five and nine
- 30:22Speaker 4: and you're trying to come up with talking points and narratives.
- 30:29Speaker 3: No, been there, done that, man. I want teams that
- 30:32Speaker 3: are in it.
- 30:33Speaker 4: And I think that's what makes this Jets season so
- 30:36Speaker 4: disturbing because last year at this time they had all
- 30:40Speaker 4: sorts of problems. Zach Wilson was not exactly lighting the
- 30:43Speaker 4: world on fire, but Halloween weekend they beat the Giants.
- 30:48Speaker 3: They're really imaginable.
- 30:50Speaker 4: They were playing games before Thanksgiving that had meaning and significance.
- 30:57Speaker 4: Now basically the Jets have to go and pull an
- 30:59Speaker 4: inside straight or royal flush to go and get themselves
- 31:02Speaker 4: in the postseason. And that's with Aaron Rodgers's with Devonte Adams,
- 31:07Speaker 4: that's with Tyron Smith and all of this talent they've
- 31:10Speaker 4: added to the team. Peter, I was texting you back
- 31:13Speaker 4: in the summertime. You're like, dude, I thought voted the
- 31:16Speaker 4: talent they voted, but the you know what it is
- 31:18Speaker 4: though the vibe sometimes I thought the vibe was.
- 31:21Speaker 1: High, the vibe was right. I was there, I was
- 31:24Speaker 1: on the grounds. I don't regret my decision at all.
- 31:26Speaker 1: These losses have been crazy, the Zerline misses. You talked
- 31:32Speaker 1: about Aaron Boone having a lifetime appointment as as a
- 31:36Speaker 1: manager for Greg Zerline to I think he's still here still, Why, Like.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Why, I don't get it. I don't get it, And
- 31:44Speaker 4: not only that, it's cost him a couple of games.
- 31:48Speaker 4: But then like bad teams find ways to lose. That's
- 31:51Speaker 4: that's kind of my narrative, right, So it's like if
- 31:54Speaker 4: it's not the kicker. It's Aaron Rodgers throwing a late
- 31:57Speaker 4: interception against the Vikings in a game the Vikings were begging,
- 32:01Speaker 4: begging the Jets to say, here, take it the Buffalo game,
- 32:05Speaker 4: that New England, you have that delay game on the
- 32:08Speaker 4: two point playoff five and then allowed Jacoby Brissett, who
- 32:11Speaker 4: is a backup quarterback with no receivers, to go right
- 32:14Speaker 4: down the field and listen, I was not the biggest
- 32:18Speaker 4: Bobby Salad guy.
- 32:19Speaker 2: I was not.
- 32:20Speaker 4: I would have made a coaching change in the offseason,
- 32:22Speaker 4: as unfair as that might have been. Putting Old Brook
- 32:25Speaker 4: in this spot has hurt the defense because she's supposed
- 32:29Speaker 4: to be drawing up the defense and doing all the
- 32:31Speaker 4: things necessary for the defense, and he's got to be
- 32:33Speaker 4: focused on tenzillion other things. It's just it keeps building
- 32:37Speaker 4: and adding, and it's like, well, when is it going
- 32:40Speaker 4: to stop? And you could see the body language within
- 32:42Speaker 4: that awful.
- 32:44Speaker 1: They used three timeouts in the first Quarter's let's come on,
- 32:49Speaker 1: you know, uh, let's wrap with this team. The New
- 32:53Speaker 1: York Giants Daniel Jones, Joe Shane and Brian Dable get
- 32:59Speaker 1: essentially a vote of confidence that could always be pulled
- 33:01Speaker 1: owners or pickle from John Marra before the loss to
- 33:05Speaker 1: the Steelers primetime, but Daniel Jones is now one in
- 33:08Speaker 1: fourteen in primetime. Sekwon Barkley still has more touchdowns at
- 33:12Speaker 1: MetLife this season than Daniel Jones does. And I said
- 33:16Speaker 1: it on Good Morning Football without even looking before the game,
- 33:21Speaker 1: I could tell you Daniel Jones against the Steelers on
- 33:23Speaker 1: Monday Night is going to go oh fifteen to twenty five,
- 33:26Speaker 1: have two backbreaking turnovers and maybe score a touchdown and
- 33:30Speaker 1: on a big third and eight is gonna fumble or
- 33:32Speaker 1: is going to complete a pass for five yards? That's
- 33:34Speaker 1: not enough and they're gonna have to you know, kick
- 33:35Speaker 1: a field goal and miss it or air punt it away.
- 33:40Speaker 1: You're six of Daniel Jones as someone who creates content
- 33:43Speaker 1: and is often in touch with the guys on the street.
- 33:48Speaker 1: The thoughts on the Giants and Daniel Jones as we
- 33:50Speaker 1: head towards Week nine of the NFL season and the
- 33:53Speaker 1: Washington Commanders, a team they used to own, is coming
- 33:56Speaker 1: and field themselves.
- 33:57Speaker 4: I think the Giant fan is ready for a new quarterback,
- 34:00Speaker 4: but I think the Giant fan has been ready for
- 34:01Speaker 4: a new quarterback. Really going back to mid season of
- 34:04Speaker 4: last year, when it looked like in twenty two everything
- 34:08Speaker 4: had clicked for Jones.
- 34:09Speaker 3: He has a career best season.
- 34:12Speaker 4: They win a playoff game against Minnesota and it's like, Wow,
- 34:16Speaker 4: maybe Brian Dabele has unlocked him. Maybe he's going to
- 34:19Speaker 4: take that next step as a quarterback. He can't stay
- 34:22Speaker 4: on the field, and you nailed it with the Pittsburgh game.
- 34:25Speaker 4: It's become very predictable how the Giants are gonna lose. Yeah,
- 34:30Speaker 4: they're going to be in a game. They're going to
- 34:32Speaker 4: move the ball between the twenties. They're not going to
- 34:35Speaker 4: finish drives. There's going to be a big turnover. There's
- 34:38Speaker 4: going to be a.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Big booboo, and that's how you're gonna lose.
- 34:41Speaker 4: Like the Bengals game, the Steelers game, Like I've seen
- 34:45Speaker 4: this game now so many times for the Giants over
- 34:48Speaker 4: the last couple of years. Last year in Buffalo, even
- 34:50Speaker 4: though Daniel Jones didn't play that game, but you get
- 34:52Speaker 4: my drift. They wanted to take a quarterback. We all
- 34:55Speaker 4: watched Hard Knocks, we all watched it. It was on
- 34:58Speaker 4: full display for everybody in New York and everybody for
- 35:00Speaker 4: America to see.
- 35:02Speaker 1: To their credit, they were very big on Jaden Daniels.
- 35:05Speaker 4: To their credit, Hey, Joe Shane's kid, he could come
- 35:09Speaker 4: and work for the Dolphins and help evaluate talent because
- 35:12Speaker 4: he was all over getting Jade Daniels in.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Listen, they got themselves a really good player in the
- 35:16Speaker 3: weak neighbors.
- 35:16Speaker 4: It's not like they didn't get a high quality, high
- 35:19Speaker 4: caliber guy, but they need a quarterback, and that voted confidence.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Peter. I know you're right.
- 35:25Speaker 4: Owners are fickle. They changed their mind all the time.
- 35:28Speaker 4: Maybe I'm missing this. Maybe I'm an idiot here. I
- 35:32Speaker 4: think they're coming back.
- 35:33Speaker 1: I really do.
- 35:34Speaker 4: I think they're of the mindset. Mara is like, look,
- 35:37Speaker 4: I think these guys no personnel. I think that Brian
- 35:41Speaker 4: Dable knows offensive coaching. I'm gonna give them a chance
- 35:44Speaker 4: to go and get their quarterback and see what they
- 35:46Speaker 4: can do. And inevitably, that's to me the most interesting
- 35:50Speaker 4: element that's left of this giant year, because you know
- 35:54Speaker 4: the Jets in the AFC, the way the AFC shakes out,
- 35:57Speaker 4: there are like four really really good teams and then
- 35:59Speaker 4: there's a bunch of maybe you're not getting any NFC.
- 36:03Speaker 4: The NFC is loaded, making the playoffs is going to
- 36:06Speaker 4: be so much more difficult, and where the Giants did
- 36:08Speaker 4: at two and six, that's the most intriguing element to me.
- 36:12Speaker 4: When Daniel Jones gets benched, then it's going to be
- 36:15Speaker 4: because that whole injury, you know, is better than made
- 36:17Speaker 4: the injury clause and not wanting to be on the
- 36:19Speaker 4: hook for next year and where they're going to be
- 36:21Speaker 4: pigging in the draft and who the quarterback is going
- 36:23Speaker 4: to be. But yeah, the Giant fan wants a new quarterback.
- 36:25Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna wrap. I do have one question.
- 36:28Speaker 1: My Columbus crew beat the NYC red Bull last night.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Did you happen to catch any of that one?
- 36:33Speaker 3: I did not?
- 36:34Speaker 4: Can you give me can you give me the crumb notes?
- 36:36Speaker 4: Can you give me the give me a stat seat
- 36:38Speaker 4: on that one? Cross post games back in the day
- 36:41Speaker 4: in Syracuse when I had no you want to talk
- 36:43Speaker 4: about shows where I had.
- 36:44Speaker 1: No clue just what I was talking talking about? Jim
- 36:48Speaker 1: Brown and lacrosse from the Syracuse fifties.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Yeah, queer and face offs. I mean, dude, if you
- 36:53Speaker 3: could I used to tell that to people all the time. Pete,
- 36:55Speaker 3: if you can do lacrosse post games, you can do anything.
- 36:59Speaker 1: No, I hear you, if you really are serious. I
- 37:03Speaker 1: like the Columbus crew. I don't even ask. I don't
- 37:06Speaker 1: love soccer, but I always like to pop in and
- 37:08Speaker 1: say this, Mandy, I let wear the jersey on air.
- 37:10Speaker 1: They're defending champions. They've got this great, rich fan base.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Red Bull came in last night being a one nothing
- 37:15Speaker 1: on their home field. A lackluster effort from the crew.
- 37:18Speaker 1: So we hit all sports here on the season with
- 37:21Speaker 1: Peter Schrager, and that's my analysis there, JJ, real quick,
- 37:25Speaker 1: give us the full, full, full line of where we
- 37:30Speaker 1: can see you and including on Sunday mornings, which I
- 37:33Speaker 1: gotta tell you, I'm on Fox NFL Kickoff, but I
- 37:36Speaker 1: see clips of you and Rahem Palmer and sal and
- 37:39Speaker 1: Simmons popping in and it's quite enjoyable.
- 37:42Speaker 4: You mean, Simmons in his pajamas, just basically crashing this
- 37:44Speaker 4: set at any moment.
- 37:46Speaker 3: I appreciate that New York, New York. We were rocking.
- 37:49Speaker 3: After all the big games.
- 37:50Speaker 4: We do a couple of pods a week, always on Sunday,
- 37:52Speaker 4: always on Thursday, and then after all these playoff games.
- 37:55Speaker 1: I mean, I'm gonna cut you off, do you feel
- 37:56Speaker 1: like you're filling that Beningo role of late night on
- 37:59Speaker 1: Sunday after the Jets, and it's like, all right, I'm
- 38:01Speaker 1: gonna be the Because you do live calls on these
- 38:04Speaker 1: Twitter spaces, which I didn't even know was possible.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Podcast it's great, Well, then we take we do them
- 38:09Speaker 3: on Twitter.
- 38:10Speaker 4: If you get there live, great, but you know, for
- 38:12Speaker 4: most people who are not going to be up at
- 38:14Speaker 4: one in the morning or twelve or whatever, yeah.
- 38:17Speaker 3: We post them as a pod and you get to
- 38:18Speaker 3: relive it the next morning. I love it.
- 38:22Speaker 4: I absolutely love it because it combines like the stuff
- 38:25Speaker 4: that I do with the Ringer and it kind of
- 38:26Speaker 4: gives me that old school fa and vibe that I
- 38:28Speaker 4: had for a long time.
- 38:30Speaker 3: So we got New York, New York.
- 38:31Speaker 4: We got The Ringer Gambling Show, where I'm doing a
- 38:33Speaker 4: bunch of pods a week there giving out terrible picks.
- 38:35Speaker 4: It's been a so so NFL season. Got to get
- 38:38Speaker 4: our stuff together as far as that goes. And then
- 38:40Speaker 4: s Y Sports Night eleven pm, Baseball Night in New York,
- 38:45Speaker 4: and yeah, the Ringer Sunday pregame.
- 38:47Speaker 3: At eleven am. So shakes. I'm trying to keep up
- 38:50Speaker 3: with you. You got a lot of gigs, man, that's
- 38:51Speaker 3: how it works in a business man. You got a hustle.
- 38:54Speaker 1: You're great. I love what you do and I love
- 38:55Speaker 1: that you post your runs in the morning. It makes
- 38:57Speaker 1: me feel terrible every single time I see you that
- 38:59Speaker 1: you seventeen, you run seventy, and I'm like, how the
- 39:03Speaker 1: hell did you? Where do you find the time to
- 39:05Speaker 1: do that? Very impressive, thanks, Buddy.
- 39:08Speaker 4: I wish the golf game was as impressive as the
- 39:10Speaker 4: running splits these days.
- 39:11Speaker 3: But you know, the Yankees and a massive distracted me.
- 39:13Speaker 1: That's a good thing. Uh JJ, thank you for joining
- 39:16Speaker 1: the pod and go Dolphins.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Say press, Thanks Peter, appreciate it.
- 39:30Speaker 2: All right.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Maybe that was indulging myself there, Aaron as a New
- 39:33Speaker 1: York resident, but I felt like that was kind of
- 39:37Speaker 1: the moment, and it's it would be fake for me
- 39:39Speaker 1: to come on here and give a twenty minute treatise
- 39:42Speaker 1: on what the Arizona Cardinals are doing with their two
- 39:44Speaker 1: straight wins. So we went with a guest talking Yankees
- 39:46Speaker 1: a little bit. We got football in at the end.
- 39:48Speaker 1: What do you think of JJ, Bob No love for
- 39:50Speaker 1: Drew Petsing.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Huh to the two Street wins for Arizona.
- 39:54Speaker 4: I love JJ personally, I don't follow baseball at all,
- 39:58Speaker 4: so all of that was pure gibberish to me.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Other than the conversations about the Jets and the Giants,
- 40:04Speaker 1: so per I thought, the one interesting thing, and maybe
- 40:08Speaker 1: we'll put the clip on social is me asking what
- 40:11Speaker 1: makes for better content when they're losing or they're winning.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:14Speaker 1: I don't know if I agree with him. Some of
- 40:16Speaker 1: the stuff that goes viral is when frances is banging
- 40:19Speaker 1: his head against the wall and Beningo's going nuts in
- 40:21Speaker 1: when JJ is I think he might be he might
- 40:24Speaker 1: be saying what he thinks is the right answer. But
- 40:27Speaker 1: if they're a five hundred Giants team and they beat
- 40:29Speaker 1: the you know, they beat the Minnesota Vikings seventeen thirteen,
- 40:33Speaker 1: I don't know if it's the same reaction as when
- 40:36Speaker 1: the Jets absolutely implode. I think that for those talk
- 40:38Speaker 1: radio hosts, sometimes talking about the Browns in a bad
- 40:41Speaker 1: season or the Eagles in a bad season is better
- 40:44Speaker 1: than when they're just barely you know, above five hundred.
- 40:46Speaker 1: All right, love it, let's get into it. Uber eats.
- 40:51Speaker 1: It's time for delivering results. Presented by Uber eats, and
- 40:54Speaker 1: I want to discuss a team or a player that
- 40:57Speaker 1: delivered results from the past week, and I think I
- 41:00Speaker 1: have to look no further than the starting quarterback for
- 41:02Speaker 1: the Denver Broncos, the rookie bow Knicks Bonecks against the
- 41:06Speaker 1: Carol Line of Panthers. He threw for three touchdowns, he
- 41:09Speaker 1: had a rushing touchdown, he threw no interceptions, and he
- 41:12Speaker 1: completed seventy five percent of his passes. The Broncos are
- 41:15Speaker 1: now five and three. They're taking on the vaunted Ravens
- 41:19Speaker 1: this weekend, and suddenly Sean Payton's boys come marching into
- 41:21Speaker 1: Baltimore as a team with as good a record as
- 41:24Speaker 1: the Ravens, and bo Nicks is the reason why that
- 41:26Speaker 1: they've gotten any offense at all. I have to show
- 41:29Speaker 1: respect to a rookie that a lot of people didn't
- 41:31Speaker 1: think would have the same stuff as Austin, as Jaden
- 41:34Speaker 1: Daniels or as Caleb Williams. Yet bon Knicks is right
- 41:37Speaker 1: there in the conversation, and if it wasn't for Daniels
- 41:40Speaker 1: having this historic season, would quite possibly be our offensive
- 41:43Speaker 1: player of the year as far as rookies go. So
- 41:46Speaker 1: bow Knicks the pride of the Oregon Ducks and before that,
- 41:49Speaker 1: the pride of the Auburn Tiger. Sixty one college starts
- 41:53Speaker 1: and now eight starts into his NFL career, has five wins,
- 41:56Speaker 1: three losses, and had his best performance last weekend. Austin.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Why I keep saying the name Austin, It's because Austin
- 42:02Speaker 1: copa Bianco, our friend who almost ripped the ball out
- 42:04Speaker 1: of Mookie Bets's glove Botex that was delivering results for
- 42:09Speaker 1: that about Ubery, where you can get the best deals
- 42:11Speaker 1: on game day food all season long, the official on
- 42:13Speaker 1: demand delivery partner of the NFL.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Order.
- 42:15Speaker 1: Now, all right, guys, go Yankees and enjoy your NFL Weekend.
- 42:25Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
