- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on gadigal Land Always was, always
- 0:03Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land. Hay jis, I'm out and and
- 0:14Speaker 1: this is Two Roat Chicks, the show that shares life
- 0:16Speaker 1: lessons and tips to make you rich in life. And
- 0:18Speaker 1: welcome to part two of How to Live Deliciously with
- 0:22Speaker 1: Florence Given. We had so much fun chatting to her
- 0:25Speaker 1: that we've done this in two parts, So if you
- 0:27Speaker 1: haven't listened to part one, go back and give last
- 0:30Speaker 1: week's episode a listen. And yeah, let's get into the episode.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Let's go. There's still so.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Much development in someone in their soul and their mind
- 0:44Speaker 1: and their belief and their decisions. Between twenty and.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Like the rest of your life, it's like you go
- 0:50Speaker 3: through a.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Second pubity, you know. And that's the thing I think
- 0:53Speaker 1: a well, like Pully, like twenty year old Alex, she's baby.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I just want to put her on my lap and
- 0:59Speaker 1: like give her a cuddle and be like, don't worry,
- 1:01Speaker 1: you don't know anything, and that's okay. And I think
- 1:04Speaker 1: the thing that makes me so maybe stressed isn't the
- 1:08Speaker 1: right word, but the thing I think about as well
- 1:11Speaker 1: now is obviously, you know, when we were younger, we
- 1:15Speaker 1: had a lot of things in media that makes it
- 1:18Speaker 1: very confusing, but even still now and I think it's
- 1:21Speaker 1: quite disguised, because I would love your opinion on the
- 1:24Speaker 1: whole that girl trend and clean girl trend and vanilla
- 1:29Speaker 1: girl and tomato girl and fucking potato girl and tomato girl.
- 1:33Speaker 1: There's a tomato girl. I had a full thirty minute
- 1:35Speaker 1: rant about it on the net. She's in sucking Europe
- 1:38Speaker 1: and she's wearing linen and she has a headscarfhone, And
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm like, she's just in Europe. And then I saw
- 1:43Speaker 1: recently now this Arabella girl and it's just leopard print,
- 1:47Speaker 1: like leopard jackets and red.
- 1:50Speaker 2: But anyway, what do you what do you think?
- 1:52Speaker 4: I'll be honest, I'm not that TikTok. I'm assuming most
- 1:58Speaker 4: of this is on TikTok.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah, app is so good.
- 2:01Speaker 4: I have to stay away from it because right it's
- 2:06Speaker 4: so it's like the best television you could ask for.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah, because it will feed you everything you interact with everything.
- 2:13Speaker 4: I would I would use to use it, like if
- 2:16Speaker 4: I was looking for a sign from the universe, it
- 2:17Speaker 4: would open TikTok and there would be like some woeman
- 2:19Speaker 4: like this is for you. It's it's such a good
- 2:24Speaker 4: it's it's such a good app that I have to
- 2:26Speaker 4: stay away from it. So I don't know much about
- 2:29Speaker 4: what the names or the trends are. And I imagine
- 2:33Speaker 4: if I was absorbing all of that constantly, I would
- 2:36Speaker 4: be influenced by it, and it's I was actually thinking
- 2:40Speaker 4: this morning about how how wild it is that something
- 2:46Speaker 4: can be so addictive like an app, that you have
- 2:48Speaker 4: to have very strict boundaries with it. Like I can't
- 2:51Speaker 4: have bram or TikTok on my phone in the middle
- 2:55Speaker 4: of the day. I only have it on my phone
- 2:56Speaker 4: when I'm posting or in the evening if I want
- 2:59Speaker 4: to check my mess It's a lot harder at the
- 3:01Speaker 4: moment because I'm promoting the book, so I have lots
- 3:03Speaker 4: of drafts and safe But what do I.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Think about that stuff? I don't know.
- 3:09Speaker 4: I think it's because I'm not absorbed in it and
- 3:12Speaker 4: it's not affecting me. I can almost look at it
- 3:14Speaker 4: in this like this very lighthearted way, right because I've
- 3:17Speaker 4: not been so heavily affected by it, And the way
- 3:20Speaker 4: I'm saying it is like we all used to belong
- 3:22Speaker 4: to tribes, right, like, and I feel like maybe we
- 3:26Speaker 4: just have this ancient ache to just belong to a
- 3:30Speaker 4: group of people and signal that belonging to others, and
- 3:34Speaker 4: we perhaps grab those like those physical things, so like
- 3:39Speaker 4: the match of the yoga class or or the lepoprint
- 3:42Speaker 4: coat and the red lipstick or whatever you just said,
- 3:44Speaker 4: we project those images to signal what cult we belong to, right, like,
- 3:51Speaker 4: like what tribe, who we are? That's even like I
- 3:53Speaker 4: used to wear band t shirts to like signal to
- 3:55Speaker 4: people like that what kind of music I liked? Right
- 3:58Speaker 4: And this is perhaps just the extreme modern manifestation of
- 4:04Speaker 4: thus needing to signal to people who we are and
- 4:06Speaker 4: what we're a part of. But that doesn't mean it's authentic,
- 4:08Speaker 4: you know.
- 4:09Speaker 2: So you can wear all the.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Things, you can do all of the things, but that
- 4:13Speaker 4: actually doesn't say anything about your values. And I make
- 4:17Speaker 4: some wisdom that's coming through for me right now at
- 4:20Speaker 4: this stage of my life is that I no longer
- 4:24Speaker 4: want to It was a very immature thing I think
- 4:27Speaker 4: I did, and I think a lot of people still
- 4:29Speaker 4: do in life, is to think that you can find
- 4:34Speaker 4: your quote unquote crime, but you can find your people
- 4:38Speaker 4: or your your cult, whatever you can find your people
- 4:42Speaker 4: by just sharing aesthetics and interests. And something I'm a
- 4:48Speaker 4: lot more trying to pursue my life at the moment
- 4:51Speaker 4: is values based friendships and connections. And I think, like
- 4:58Speaker 4: we were saying earlier, like values like curiosity or courage,
- 5:01Speaker 4: or gratitude or a deep appreciation for life. You can
- 5:04Speaker 4: meet those people and they're probably going to be really
- 5:07Speaker 4: long fulfilling friendships because you have shared values instead of
- 5:11Speaker 4: associating with those like those physical those material things.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 5:15Speaker 4: I think we all want to belong and it's so human,
- 5:19Speaker 4: like I want to belong. Everyone wants to belong because
- 5:21Speaker 4: it's this, it's an ancient ache we have. We don't
- 5:23Speaker 4: want to be isolated from the tribe, and so I
- 5:25Speaker 4: think we do what we want to fit in. And
- 5:28Speaker 4: if there is a new trend like clean girl trend
- 5:30Speaker 4: or tomato girl trend or.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Something, I think it is rooted in wanting to belong.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I think it's the rapid, rapidly changing nature of an
- 5:39Speaker 1: it girl that is the issue. And like that's but
- 5:43Speaker 1: again it's still rooted in that I don't want to
- 5:46Speaker 1: be different, I don't want to stand out. I don't
- 5:48Speaker 1: want to be cringed or embarrassing or a loser. And
- 5:51Speaker 1: that's when like you're not authentically being yourself. So there's
- 5:54Speaker 1: absolutely nothing wrong with belonging to something, and that's always
- 5:57Speaker 1: something that we've said. But if you feel like you
- 5:59Speaker 1: need to change who you are in order to fit in,
- 6:02Speaker 1: that's when you're like brushing the hair the wrong way.
- 6:07Speaker 4: It is lonely to be authentic, though you have in
- 6:11Speaker 4: my experience, you have fewer friends, or at least you
- 6:15Speaker 4: go through periods especially you have fewer friends.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I've belonged to groups of people before.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Based on the interests, based on the the.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Shared music in trant or whatever anything shared interests.
- 6:29Speaker 4: And it doesn't actually it's almost like a surface level
- 6:33Speaker 4: of belonging, and if you kind of go against those values,
- 6:38Speaker 4: you can be isolated from it. If I don't know,
- 6:41Speaker 4: I'm just I'm in.
- 6:42Speaker 2: This really, really really beautiful.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Seas of my life where I'm intentionally valuing authenticity and
- 6:49Speaker 4: it is a lonely place to be at times, and
- 6:53Speaker 4: I know that it's going to be completely fucking.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Worth it in the long run, because I get depressed
- 7:00Speaker 2: when I'm not myself.
- 7:02Speaker 4: I get depressed and really fucking low when I'm not
- 7:06Speaker 4: being floss, when I have to suppress my joy and
- 7:10Speaker 4: my delight and what I actually think and feel about things.
- 7:13Speaker 4: When I feel like something is wrong, or when I
- 7:15Speaker 4: want to say something and I feel if I can't
- 7:18Speaker 4: do that, it manifests as illness in my body. I
- 7:21Speaker 4: feel really low, I've become anxious, I've become stressed. There
- 7:25Speaker 4: was an amazing book I read a couple of years
- 7:28Speaker 4: ago that really helped me through this period of my life.
- 7:30Speaker 4: It was called The Way of Integrity by Martha Beck,
- 7:34Speaker 4: and she talks about the connection between authenticity and physical illness,
- 7:40Speaker 4: and it would just basically described everything that I was
- 7:43Speaker 4: experiencing in my life, where when we get pulled away
- 7:45Speaker 4: from our true nature to try and belong to other
- 7:48Speaker 4: groups of people or what society wants from us, it
- 7:52Speaker 4: creates resentment, and it manifests physically, and it manifests in
- 7:55Speaker 4: all of these other horrendous ways. And basically, in my
- 7:58Speaker 4: experience my life completely body slammed me back into authenticity.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Body fucking slammed like slipped a disc in my spine
- 8:05Speaker 4: years ago, couldn't work, I couldn't do anything that I
- 8:09Speaker 4: had identified with. And then that's why I was like, Okay,
- 8:12Speaker 4: I'm going to take two years off. I'm no more
- 8:15Speaker 4: Florence givening. I'm not going to do anything. And then
- 8:21Speaker 4: I realized, because I love what I do, I was
- 8:25Speaker 4: doing it wrong. I was doing it almost like a
- 8:29Speaker 4: keeping up of this, like sustaining this expired identity on
- 8:33Speaker 4: fucking life support.
- 8:35Speaker 2: When I could just be myself, I could just be myself.
- 8:38Speaker 4: And trust that that is beautiful and that that is
- 8:43Speaker 4: worth sharing, and that I would just become more frazzled
- 8:50Speaker 4: and anxious and scouer and if I didn't have courage
- 8:58Speaker 4: to become the present person that I am.
- 9:01Speaker 3: I was having a conversation with a friend earlier this week,
- 9:03Speaker 3: and I was saying to him that sometimes life pulls
- 9:07Speaker 3: the breakup for you and will physically stop you if
- 9:12Speaker 3: you don't stop yourself from whatever it is that is
- 9:16Speaker 3: stopping you from living authentically. And it sounds like that's
- 9:20Speaker 3: the experience that you had, and I think that's incredibly relatable.
- 9:23Speaker 1: But I want to.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Switch gears slightly because you share a quote in the
- 9:28Speaker 3: book that I loved, which is joy can only exist
- 9:32Speaker 3: when there is a gap in the stream of your thoughts,
- 9:36Speaker 3: and I want to know how can we create these
- 9:38Speaker 3: gaps so we can prioritize joy and fun.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Yes, that quote is by Akhatole. Have you read The
- 9:44Speaker 2: Power of Now? No?
- 9:46Speaker 3: But I saw it in your book and I was like,
- 9:48Speaker 3: I need to add it to the reading list.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was his quote. Joy can only
- 9:53Speaker 2: exist when there is a gap in the stream of
- 9:56Speaker 2: your thoughts.
- 9:57Speaker 4: And I hadn't left room in my life for a
- 10:01Speaker 4: single fucking gap. Every gap filled if it wasn't something
- 10:05Speaker 4: on the to do list, it was a TikTok I
- 10:07Speaker 4: was filling the gap with It was even like just
- 10:09Speaker 4: I could go on a walk, I could go on
- 10:11Speaker 4: my mindful walk in the trees, and my head is
- 10:15Speaker 4: still being filled with what I need to do in
- 10:17Speaker 4: an hour.
- 10:18Speaker 2: But you know what that quote, because people read that book.
- 10:22Speaker 4: And have their lives completely flipped upside fucking down. And
- 10:28Speaker 4: it's funny that that quote in particular really gave the
- 10:33Speaker 4: language to something I've experienced my whole life. Remember I
- 10:36Speaker 4: told you at the beginning, I've always felt so much joy,
- 10:39Speaker 4: And it almost felt illegal because it's so simple.
- 10:41Speaker 2: It was like, surely not, surely, I cannot.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Experience so much joy right now, just from the sun
- 10:48Speaker 4: shining on my face. And that's what capitalism does to us,
- 10:50Speaker 4: because we're taught to go out and grab things and
- 10:54Speaker 4: pursue things and chase things. That if you have this
- 10:56Speaker 4: like beautiful or inspiring experience without any of that, you're
- 11:01Speaker 4: like you can almost dismiss it or somehow feel like
- 11:04Speaker 4: it's not enough.
- 11:04Speaker 2: But they are enough.
- 11:06Speaker 4: And that quote joy can only exist when there is
- 11:09Speaker 4: a gap in the stream.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Of your thoughts. It made sense to me.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Why all of these small, beautiful moments made me feel
- 11:17Speaker 4: so alive. I wasn't even thinking about what I was
- 11:20Speaker 4: looking like in these moments, and it's.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Because I wasn't thinking, period.
- 11:25Speaker 4: I wasn't thinking at all, right, And it's like they're
- 11:29Speaker 4: just this ancient Buddhist wisdom that when the mind gets
- 11:32Speaker 4: so quiet that you are not thinking, whether that's through
- 11:35Speaker 4: meditation or because you have been your mind has been
- 11:39Speaker 4: stunned into silence by the beauty of the sun or
- 11:42Speaker 4: by the beauty a dog running up to you, the
- 11:44Speaker 4: mind just goes quiet, and for a moment, you are
- 11:47Speaker 4: here like you're here, and it could last for like
- 11:50Speaker 4: two seconds or three three minutes.
- 11:53Speaker 2: I was once staring at a sunset in Tokyo and
- 11:56Speaker 2: I'm just.
- 11:57Speaker 4: Like I would just completely no thoughts, nothing, and it
- 12:02Speaker 4: was like a mini meditation. And so when these things
- 12:04Speaker 4: create that gap in your mind, they take you by surprise, right,
- 12:09Speaker 4: You're kind of brought out of your head, and you're
- 12:12Speaker 4: briefly reminded of how beautiful it is to be alive
- 12:15Speaker 4: and not to be thinking about the way your body looks,
- 12:17Speaker 4: and not to be thinking about what you've got to
- 12:19Speaker 4: do later or who you've got to impress. You're not
- 12:22Speaker 4: thinking about that. You are intensely here, and so you
- 12:26Speaker 4: don't have to wait for those moments to hit you.
- 12:28Speaker 4: You can create them. And that is through like the
- 12:32Speaker 4: smallest moments of mindfulness. And I started to do it
- 12:35Speaker 4: because it was quite hard to settle my mind, and
- 12:37Speaker 4: it still is. I will have to physically sit on
- 12:40Speaker 4: a bench on my walk, like I write in the
- 12:43Speaker 4: book that benches, to me, they represent like a literal
- 12:47Speaker 4: gap in the middle of a city where everyone is
- 12:50Speaker 4: so busy. Even like the discipline of going somewhere and
- 12:54Speaker 4: sitting down on a bench is the equivalent to me
- 12:58Speaker 4: of like the mental rest of.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Taking a breath and pausing.
- 13:03Speaker 4: And I also have the habit now of taking a
- 13:07Speaker 4: breath before I walk through a doorway, which is something
- 13:09Speaker 4: I trained myself to do, where it's now like a habit.
- 13:12Speaker 2: So before I walk into the room, it's like a
- 13:15Speaker 2: deep breath. I don't stop. You can do it while
- 13:17Speaker 2: you're walking.
- 13:18Speaker 4: And for me, it's bringing myself back into the moment
- 13:20Speaker 4: and I make more conscious and intentional decisions.
- 13:23Speaker 2: And I think for me, when I was so stressed out,
- 13:26Speaker 2: I couldn't stand the fucking idea of meditation.
- 13:28Speaker 4: It felt like a waste of time, like half an
- 13:30Speaker 4: hour sat on my ass with my own thoughts, no,
- 13:33Speaker 4: thank you, who the fuck wants to I didn't want
- 13:37Speaker 4: to do any of it, and I would have resented
- 13:39Speaker 4: anyone suggesting it to me. I would have been like,
- 13:40Speaker 4: you have no idea, you have no idea how much
- 13:42Speaker 4: I need to do? What a waste of time? And
- 13:45Speaker 4: so this idea of joy and bliss existing in just
- 13:50Speaker 4: a little gap, it's like microdosing meditation for me, and
- 13:53Speaker 4: it's more accessible.
- 13:55Speaker 2: You don't actually need to fucking do anything, you just
- 13:57Speaker 2: need to take a breath.
- 13:59Speaker 4: So that when it was completely revolutionary for me, and
- 14:02Speaker 4: so you asked me, how could you introduce more little
- 14:06Speaker 4: gaps into your life.
- 14:07Speaker 2: It's not even you don't have to actually do anything.
- 14:12Speaker 2: We do too much.
- 14:14Speaker 4: You just need to do what you are already doing
- 14:18Speaker 4: with a tiny degree more presence. Like earlier, I was
- 14:21Speaker 4: making my green tea before coming to sit in here,
- 14:25Speaker 4: and it's so habitual, kettle on tea, bag in the cup,
- 14:29Speaker 4: like you're just and I'm already thinking about, right, what
- 14:31Speaker 4: am I going to say when I see them on camera?
- 14:33Speaker 4: I'm not even present, but like making this tea, and
- 14:37Speaker 4: then I remembered, and you just catch yourself not being
- 14:41Speaker 4: present and you go oh, and then you just do.
- 14:44Speaker 2: It and you think about what you're doing.
- 14:47Speaker 4: And it's just I don't think it has to be
- 14:51Speaker 4: It doesn't have to be overwhelming to be so still
- 14:55Speaker 4: or to be still slower, like to get out of
- 14:58Speaker 4: that frazzle, to state it is just one baby step at.
- 15:01Speaker 2: A fucking time. Yeah, I didn't want to get out,
- 15:03Speaker 2: but like the idea of being even writing a book.
- 15:07Speaker 4: In that state, doing anything that was like extroverted and
- 15:10Speaker 4: required energy of me. The idea of doing that was
- 15:13Speaker 4: just completely draining, and so I just started doing it
- 15:16Speaker 4: in baby steps. And that's actually one of my main
- 15:18Speaker 4: messages throughout the book is like it is just a
- 15:20Speaker 4: baby step.
- 15:21Speaker 2: You know, no one climbs.
- 15:22Speaker 4: If you're someone who's like extremely exhausted and you are
- 15:25Speaker 4: fed up of watching yourself make decisions that please other
- 15:29Speaker 4: people but let down yourself, and you're watching yourself do it,
- 15:35Speaker 4: all you have to do is make one authentic choice,
- 15:38Speaker 4: even if that is just when you go to a
- 15:40Speaker 4: restaurant next you order what you want off the menu
- 15:42Speaker 4: without asking the other person what they think, or you
- 15:45Speaker 4: ask the other or you order what you want off
- 15:47Speaker 4: the menu without going what are you having?
- 15:49Speaker 2: Like, what do you want?
- 15:51Speaker 4: And make that decision and guess what If it comes
- 15:53Speaker 4: out and you like what the other person is having,
- 15:55Speaker 4: doesn't mean you're a failure.
- 15:56Speaker 2: It doesn't mean you made a wrong decision.
- 15:57Speaker 4: The point is to just make your own choices and
- 16:00Speaker 4: place yourself at the center of your life and get
- 16:03Speaker 4: practiced at doing that.
- 16:05Speaker 2: And it sounds so silly to say this.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Out loud, right, like, oh, like, we're not children, you know,
- 16:10Speaker 4: order what you want off the menu. But to a
- 16:11Speaker 4: people pleaser, to people like me who recovering people pleaser,
- 16:15Speaker 4: doing shit like that, you feel invincible after doing it.
- 16:20Speaker 4: It's like you have to just push through constantly outsourcing
- 16:25Speaker 4: and pulling your life choices to other people. And the
- 16:29Speaker 4: main thing of living deliciously all of these little tiny
- 16:32Speaker 4: things that sound so frivolous. What they do is over time,
- 16:36Speaker 4: you integrate them into your life and you remind yourself.
- 16:38Speaker 2: That you have agency. So even when your to do
- 16:41Speaker 2: list is so fucking.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Full, you can do one small thing that makes you
- 16:46Speaker 4: remember that your life belongs to you, even if that
- 16:48Speaker 4: simple decision is to put your phone down and just
- 16:51Speaker 4: look at the sky for ten fucking seconds. You just
- 16:55Speaker 4: remind yourself that you are not being driven around by
- 16:59Speaker 4: the voice of fear in your head or your to
- 17:01Speaker 4: do list. But you can make small decisions for yourself.
- 17:04Speaker 4: And that's the most important thing. I lost all of
- 17:07Speaker 4: my agency. I wasn't expressing myself. I was living within
- 17:10Speaker 4: this mental cage of fear where I felt like I
- 17:13Speaker 4: had no control over my life. And that's not true
- 17:16Speaker 4: in any situation. There is one small thing you can do,
- 17:20Speaker 4: even if it's just taking your breath. You just remind
- 17:23Speaker 4: yourself that your life belongs to you, because otherwise life.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Is so so.
- 17:28Speaker 4: So unempowering and doing something small like that, like I
- 17:33Speaker 4: wrote in the book, you know, even if you can't
- 17:35Speaker 4: get out of bed you are depressed beyond belief, you
- 17:39Speaker 4: can open the fucking window and let yourself hear the
- 17:40Speaker 4: birds because you deserve to hear them. And those little
- 17:43Speaker 4: acts that you it's like an act of love that
- 17:46Speaker 4: you show yourself. You're like, my head is going nuts today.
- 17:49Speaker 4: I don't like myself, but I deserve to hear the birds.
- 17:52Speaker 4: I deserve this, I deserve this, I deserve this, and
- 17:55Speaker 4: you end up creating this like gratitude for life when
- 18:00Speaker 4: you start to do those little things. It really does
- 18:02Speaker 4: start so small, And I think I need someone to
- 18:04Speaker 4: tell me that happiness is not something that's supposed to
- 18:07Speaker 4: just visit you. It is a fucking habit like you.
- 18:09Speaker 2: You have to make it intentional. It is a skill.
- 18:12Speaker 2: It is something you get good at.
- 18:14Speaker 4: And I didn't realize that confidence and joy could slip
- 18:17Speaker 4: away from me so effortlessly. It wasn't one big trauma
- 18:20Speaker 4: that happened to me in my life. It was a
- 18:22Speaker 4: series of me turning away from the things that made
- 18:26Speaker 4: me happy, to prioritize work, to prioritize this, to prioritize perfection,
- 18:31Speaker 4: to prioritize how I looked. It was like a small
- 18:33Speaker 4: series of stepping away. And so the way back to
- 18:37Speaker 4: joy for me was a series of small steps to
- 18:39Speaker 4: turn towards my joy again.
- 18:41Speaker 2: That's so goodness, like tearing up. That's really beautiful.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 18:47Speaker 2: I just love you guys.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Honestly, it's so powerful.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I honestly we recommend a lot of books on our pod.
- 18:56Speaker 5: We have done like four episodes of Bookstread to get
- 19:00Speaker 5: Your Shit Together, and I really can confidently say that
- 19:05Speaker 5: this is the number one that we really really want
- 19:08Speaker 5: every single person to read or listen to.
- 19:11Speaker 1: If that's you know, if you're not a reader, audiobooks
- 19:14Speaker 1: are your best friend because this book genuinely is don't cry, Alex,
- 19:20Speaker 1: like a massive hug. It's really beautiful. And I think
- 19:26Speaker 1: everything that you've said in this episode and just who
- 19:31Speaker 1: you've shown yourself to be is really in this book,
- 19:34Speaker 1: and it's so genuine and that's a really hard thing
- 19:37Speaker 1: to do as well, to be so open and to
- 19:39Speaker 1: be so genuine. So thank you so much, because I
- 19:42Speaker 1: truly think you're going to help every single person that
- 19:45Speaker 1: reads this book, and I'm so proud of everything that
- 19:50Speaker 1: you've done to achieve this and create this, and you
- 19:53Speaker 1: should be incredibly proud of yourself.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Oh thank you. I told you.
- 19:58Speaker 4: This is my first enterview I've done for the book.
- 20:02Speaker 4: No one's like I've not, you're wait just to check
- 20:05Speaker 4: you've read the book.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Yes, yes, you read the book because it's out yet.
- 20:11Speaker 4: So I was like, maybe maybe you received like a PDS.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Copy that we got our physical copies like today.
- 20:18Speaker 4: Yeah, So that's that is genuinely my first piece of
- 20:24Speaker 4: feedback apart from my mom. Like, literally, no one else
- 20:27Speaker 4: has read this yet apart from my team.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yourself and my mom.
- 20:33Speaker 4: So that was such a lovely warm like I know,
- 20:37Speaker 4: the book's out in five days, and that's just like,
- 20:39Speaker 4: it's such a lovely warm feeling to send me off.
- 20:42Speaker 2: With before it comes out. Be very very very excited.
- 20:47Speaker 3: It's a pleasure to share that because honestly, that's such
- 20:49Speaker 3: an honor to hear that as well, that we were
- 20:52Speaker 3: one of the first, because we admire you so much
- 20:55Speaker 3: the first.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I put that on my Instagram. So, oh have you
- 21:03Speaker 1: read Women Living Deliciously?
- 21:05Speaker 2: Did you know? Do you have five minutes.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Actually, we just I've got a tattoo on my forehead.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Look to wrap up, we always end our episodes with
- 21:17Speaker 1: one very fabulous, very small question. Really, but what has
- 21:22Speaker 1: been your biggest life lesson on your journey so far?
- 21:26Speaker 2: It's not a small question.
- 21:29Speaker 4: So you know what I've saying too earlier about anxiety
- 21:31Speaker 4: feeling like urgency.
- 21:33Speaker 2: It's fucking fake. All of it's fake.
- 21:38Speaker 4: The mental deadlines you place upon yourself to achieve a
- 21:42Speaker 4: certain thing by a certain age, it is fucking fake.
- 21:46Speaker 2: All of it's fake. It's not real, it's made up.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Everything is made up, and we give legitimacy to like
- 21:55Speaker 4: so many things because it's how we behave as a society,
- 21:58Speaker 4: like street names, clothes, you wear this again what were
- 22:01Speaker 4: talking about earlier, like the symbols of tribes, and like
- 22:04Speaker 4: that girl to ask, all of it. We make it
- 22:07Speaker 4: up because part of life is the fun of life
- 22:10Speaker 4: is making things up to make sense of why the
- 22:12Speaker 4: fuck we're here, because no one knows why. And so
- 22:15Speaker 4: one of my biggest life lessons is that everything is fake.
- 22:18Speaker 4: And when every time I feel this urgency creeping up
- 22:21Speaker 4: on me to be perfect or still, little things like
- 22:25Speaker 4: I need to post on Instagram every day.
- 22:27Speaker 2: I need to do this. I need to wake up
- 22:28Speaker 2: at this time. All of these mental it's fake.
- 22:31Speaker 4: Wouldn't it be great if you're fucking sure, Sure it would,
- 22:35Speaker 4: But most of it is fake. And if you can
- 22:39Speaker 4: view everything as fake and made up, the ideas of
- 22:42Speaker 4: beauty we have, they are just reinforced by people that
- 22:46Speaker 4: they are real, and they affect people's lives. That is real,
- 22:50Speaker 4: and they also just exist in people's heads and they
- 22:53Speaker 4: aren't real.
- 22:53Speaker 2: It's an idea and that sounds so I really.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Don't want to be too vague about this and sound
- 22:58Speaker 4: say fucking pretentious. But everything in life is made up.
- 23:01Speaker 4: We make things up because it's fun. We make things
- 23:04Speaker 4: up because it gives us a sense of control. And
- 23:06Speaker 4: when you do that for me, I'll speak for myself.
- 23:09Speaker 4: For me, it's given me an unbelievable sense of power
- 23:12Speaker 4: and agency over my own life to realize that who
- 23:15Speaker 4: I am is fucking brilliant, and anything I put on
- 23:18Speaker 4: myself to live up to some arbitrary, made up standard
- 23:22Speaker 4: by another person, or just the punishing voice in my
- 23:25Speaker 4: mind that tells me I need to be a certain way.
- 23:28Speaker 2: It's fake. I can tell it to shut the hell
- 23:30Speaker 2: up and I can do what I want.
- 23:33Speaker 4: And that voice it's not real, it's it's a voice
- 23:38Speaker 4: inside of me.
- 23:39Speaker 2: I'm not the voice. It's you know.
- 23:40Speaker 4: It's going back to that really basic but life changing mindfulness.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Part of the voice inside you is it's just a
- 23:46Speaker 4: piece of clutter. It's literally, it's not you. It's literally
- 23:51Speaker 4: it's a thing outside of you. Like like you would
- 23:53Speaker 4: look at a flower on a walk and be like, oh,
- 23:55Speaker 4: that's a flower.
- 23:57Speaker 2: We can do the same with the voice in our head,
- 23:58Speaker 2: like oh that's a voice in me.
- 24:00Speaker 4: It's not me, it's in me, and it just creating
- 24:05Speaker 4: that separation in my mind and realizing that so much
- 24:08Speaker 4: of what I thought about the world is fake because
- 24:11Speaker 4: everyone has a complete different voice in their heads and
- 24:14Speaker 4: they view they can look at the same fucking think
- 24:16Speaker 4: of you, same fucking thing as you, the same piece
- 24:19Speaker 4: of art, and derive a completely different meaning from it, and.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Neither of you are wrong. It's just their interpretation of
- 24:27Speaker 2: the you know, it's like everything in life is fake
- 24:30Speaker 2: and it's a bit was it.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Like it's like nihilism and like just it sounds quite depressing,
- 24:35Speaker 4: like oh, everything's fake, nothing's real, but it's It's given
- 24:39Speaker 4: me a lot of optimism and a lot of gratitude
- 24:41Speaker 4: and much deeper ability to be what myself when I
- 24:45Speaker 4: realized that you can create your own version of life,
- 24:49Speaker 4: because why not.
- 24:51Speaker 2: It's all fake. The rules are fake.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Yeah, there's there are up rules. You can have what
- 24:59Speaker 1: I what the fuck you want for dinner? And my
- 25:01Speaker 1: favorite one is that you can pick whatever movie you
- 25:03Speaker 1: want to watch.
- 25:04Speaker 2: That's my favorite one.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Thank you so much. You've been an absolute pleasure and
- 25:09Speaker 1: easily one of our dream guests that we've always had.
- 25:11Speaker 1: So congratulations on your incredible book and we can't wait
- 25:16Speaker 1: for the four fifth, seven hundreds.
- 25:18Speaker 4: Yeah I'm looking force but number four as well, whatever
- 25:20Speaker 4: the hell that's going to be, it'll be magnificent.

- 25:26Speaker 1: of your day.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Thank you so much our pleasure.
