Latest / I Hate Talking / Assassination Attempt - Bonus Content
Transcript
- 0:31I Hate Talking: All right, we are here with a bonus episode, and this is being recorded and will be dropped immediately on this 13th day of July 2024.
- 0:42I Hate Talking: Hi, I wish it was for exciting.
- 0:45I Hate Talking: Well, it is exciting.
- 0:46I Hate Talking: I wish it was for good news while we were doing this podcast tonight.
- 0:51I Hate Talking: Well, there are some that may consider the fact that President Trump is still alive bad news, unfortunately.
- 0:58I Hate Talking: But uh there is some good news in the events that took place earlier today in the fact that uh he is still alive.
- 1:06I Hate Talking: Yes, uh, but there are people that aren't alive.
- 1:11I Hate Talking: At least one.
- 1:12I Hate Talking: And a second one in critical condition, correct?
- 1:16I Hate Talking: Yes, according to reports that we've been catching up on is that there is one confirmed fatality of an audience member, uh, another audience member that is in critical condition, and the shooter is deceased as well, according to reports.
- 1:34I Hate Talking: Should we back up just in case and explain what happened a couple hours ago?
- 1:39I Hate Talking: I think that's a good idea.
- 1:41I Hate Talking: So, uh, President Trump, who is uh running for president, but the previous president as well, so a little bit confusing maybe for some of our international listeners, he is not currently the sitting president, but he was a president nonetheless, so we still refer to him as President Trump, uh, but he had an attempt on his life during a rally in Pennsylvania.
- 2:05I Hate Talking: And uh this was done by a firearm of some sort.
- 2:11I Hate Talking: Uh, initial reports are saying a rifle and the attempt was unsuccessful.
- 2:19I Hate Talking: However, it does appear that he had been hit with a single shot of the volley of at least 5 shots, uh, that went through his right ear.
- 2:31I Hate Talking: So we are doing this special episode because from my memory, this is actually the first.
- 2:38I Hate Talking: Assassination attempt, successful or otherwise uh that has occurred during our lifetime.
- 2:46I Hate Talking: Right, yeah, um.
- 2:48I Hate Talking: When I was looking it up a little bit ago, it looks like there have been attempts, but nothing to this extreme.
- 2:57I Hate Talking: It looks like other um attempts to other presidents or even Trump were uh Stopped um a lot sooner.
- 3:08I Hate Talking: So this is the first time I, yeah, like you said, in our history that a president or former president was shot and injured.
- 3:18I Hate Talking: Exactly.
- 3:19I Hate Talking: According to our research, there was a plot in 1993 to assassinate George HW Bush during a visit to Kuwait.
- 3:29I Hate Talking: However, that was stopped and uh many people were arrested, so uh that did not even come close to being completed.
- 3:39I Hate Talking: And then in 1994, I actually do remember this event, but I wouldn't necessarily call it an assassination attempt because There was a gentleman that just fired shots at the White House from outside the fence, um, perhaps not necessarily intending to kill, but maybe just drawing attention or just acting out, uh, some sort of psychotic episode.
- 4:01I Hate Talking: So I do actually remember that event, but, um, I don't believe that uh the President Bill Clinton at that time had been in any danger.
- 4:09I Hate Talking: And then there was an attempt on George W.
- 4:12I Hate Talking: Bush in 2005.
- 4:15I Hate Talking: Uh, but that was actually while he was no longer president, so that was after he had, uh, finished his term, uh, where there was a grenade that was thrown at him, uh, but the grenade failed to detonate because it was wrapped too tightly in a handkerchief.
- 4:31I Hate Talking: So there's a few things that I think are important for our listeners as well as just anybody that is consuming news.
- 4:40I Hate Talking: And this list comes from on the Media.org.
- 4:44I Hate Talking: We'll put the link in the show notes, um, and uh try to put a uh image to this list as well, but they have what is called breaking news consumers' handbook.
- 4:57I Hate Talking: So this is a list of 9 things, um, surprised that they couldn't round it out with 10, but nonetheless, uh, number 1 is in the immediate aftermath, news outlets will get it wrong.
- 5:08I Hate Talking: And we're already starting to see that uh there were some initial news reports that said that the audience member that was being evacuated because they had been hit, uh, was actually the shooter.
- 5:21I Hate Talking: Oh wow, OK, I didn't hear that.
- 5:23I Hate Talking: Number 2 is don't trust anonymous sources.
- 5:29I Hate Talking: That makes sense if they're not willing to put their name down, then they, if they're not trustworthy enough to put their name down, they're not trustworthy enough to listen to.
- 5:39I Hate Talking: Exactly.
- 5:40I Hate Talking: And uh because they are anonymous, they are either maybe Passing on facts that are unverified or they just might be straight up making up things uh to try to draw some attention.
- 5:53I Hate Talking: Number 3 is don't trust stories that cite another news outlet as the source of the information.
- 6:00I Hate Talking: So, I'm confused by that one.
- 6:05I Hate Talking: So, um, a smaller news company can't cite a larger one?
- 6:11I Hate Talking: So I think the important thing on this one is that there may be.
- 6:18I Hate Talking: News outlets or again, maybe individual sources that are citing something and then just making up their own story.
- 6:26I Hate Talking: And because it has a citation, people will trust it more readily without actually going to the citation.
- 6:32I Hate Talking: So the citation may not even be legitimate or it may be a legit link, but the information in that cited work does not match what they are saying.
- 6:41I Hate Talking: I see.
- 6:41I Hate Talking: So maybe they're using a name of a big news outlet for credibility.
- 6:46I Hate Talking: Exactly.
- 6:48I Hate Talking: OK, I got that.
- 6:49I Hate Talking: OK, I got it.
- 6:49I Hate Talking: Next.
- 6:50I Hate Talking: Number 4, there's almost never a second shooter.
- 6:54I Hate Talking: Huh, OK.
- 6:56I Hate Talking: So, Grassy Knoll, uh, Vegas, and I've actually have seen some reports even for the events today that there were uh supposed second shooter.
- 7:08I Hate Talking: Uh, however, in the midst of the chaos, uh, there is a lot of things going on and, uh, people will misremember or uh maybe even think that the law enforcement that is responding is actually a Bad shooter in that scenario.
- 7:29I Hate Talking: That makes sense.
- 7:30I Hate Talking: And there could be echoes or um like you said, the law enforcement that is Um, reacting to it.
- 7:38I Hate Talking: Um, that's why for the Revolutionary War, right, no one knows who shot the first shot, precisely, but it was heard around the world.
- 7:47I Hate Talking: Number 5, pay attention to the language the media uses.
- 7:52I Hate Talking: So these are some keywords that the reporters may use, uh, to infer a particular meaning.
- 7:59I Hate Talking: We are getting reports could mean anything, basically that just means that they are hearing these things and again, it's unsubstantiated thus far.
- 8:07I Hate Talking: We are seeking confirmation that means they don't have it.
- 8:11I Hate Talking: So, uh, that is that they're saying something that they're seeking confirmation on that means they do not have confirmation that that is true.
- 8:19I Hate Talking: And then if they say that another news outlet has quote unquote learned, that means that it has a scoop or it's going out on the limb.
- 8:28I Hate Talking: So they actually may have something or again, you may have even the news outlets participating in some of these things that are warned against in the previous points and they actually are just creating misinformation.
- 8:42I Hate Talking: OK.
- 8:42I Hate Talking: Number 6 is some positive things.
- 8:47I Hate Talking: Uh, we can look for news outlets close to the incident.
- 8:51I Hate Talking: So we can probably trust if somebody was there, a news outlet that was there.
- 8:56I Hate Talking: Versus one that's across the world.
- 8:59I Hate Talking: Exactly, yeah, because those across the world or even in the major markets are gonna be getting their information second or third hand, whereas people that are working for local news outlets will actually be on site or at least have known people that they have as resources that are close to the incident.
- 9:18I Hate Talking: Number 7 is compare multiple sources.
- 9:21I Hate Talking: Mhm.
- 9:22I Hate Talking: So basically looking at a number of different news outlets to see if they're being corroborated, uh, the information that one says, uh, being similar or the same as another.
- 9:33I Hate Talking: However, right as we've been warned in previous statements that, uh, we can't trust stories that cite another news outlet as a source of information unless we actually corroborate and actually go to that site and make sure that what they are saying is the same thing, right.
- 9:48I Hate Talking: Do your due diligence.
- 9:50I Hate Talking: Number 8 is big news brings out the fakers and Photoshoppers.
- 9:55I Hate Talking: Yeah, that's, I mean, that's a scary one nowadays, especially with Photoshop and AI and all that.
- 10:01I Hate Talking: Like a picture used to be worth 1000 words and it's Not anymore.
- 10:07I Hate Talking: Yep, and I think we're even starting to see that with video as well with deep fakes and things of that nature.
- 10:13I Hate Talking: So again, everybody's looking for uh some attention here potentially and that big news or these events is uh causing some of that to, to happen.
- 10:25I Hate Talking: Number 9 is the last one on the list here.
- 10:29I Hate Talking: Beware, reflexive retweeting.
- 10:31I Hate Talking: Some of this is on you.
- 10:33I Hate Talking: OK, elaborate on that one.
- 10:35I Hate Talking: So that is basically.
- 10:39I Hate Talking: Continuing the cycle of these anonymous sources or citing things without verification that if you do see a headline or a tweet or some short article on something that's going on and then just reflexively.
- 10:57I Hate Talking: Repost that or pass that on that uh you're just perpetuating the cycle of this misinformation.
- 11:06I Hate Talking: OK.
- 11:07I Hate Talking: So on to the actual events and uh just some of the things that we've been seeing, uh, so like we said, this did happen in Pennsylvania and interesting to note that uh I do have some friends and family in the state of Pennsylvania, not near this incident per se, uh, but actually saw some reports from some of them that there was a second active shooter.
- 11:30I Hate Talking: Uh, just a few short hours after the assassination attempt.
- 11:35I Hate Talking: And have you followed up and heard anything about that?
- 11:38I Hate Talking: Cause I did a quick search when you mentioned that to me and I couldn't find anything, but obviously, President Trump's um News is gonna hit the hit more.
- 11:49I Hate Talking: Yeah, do you think that's what everybody is paying attention to?
- 11:54I Hate Talking: Um, I did see it from a real person that, uh, that I trust on uh these things, so I don't think that they would be reporting that, uh, in a erroneous fashion, but I have not seen any follow up to that.
- 12:11I Hate Talking: And again, um.
- 12:13I Hate Talking: Just because there is a.
- 12:16I Hate Talking: Live shooter scenario, uh, that means that law enforcement has been called there, uh, getting to the scene does not mean that there is actually an active shooter, just that the active shooter situation has been invoked.
- 12:30I Hate Talking: Right, because right now, I mean, we don't want to give false information either way, but right now, Everyone's so heightened.
- 12:39I Hate Talking: And on alert, um.
- 12:43I Hate Talking: That you could think something isn't happening or something is, and maybe somebody it was planned.
- 12:51I Hate Talking: Or it's, you know, everyone's emotions right now are so heightened, both sides, like whether you like Trump or not.
- 12:59I Hate Talking: Um, I feel like most people have.
- 13:03I Hate Talking: Some emotions tonight about what's happening.
- 13:06I Hate Talking: Yep, so, um, some of the news that I'll follow comes from Reddit, uh, as just the front page of the internet, so to say, uh, and accumulating some of those news articles, um, they actually shut down comments for a period, uh, tonight.
- 13:26I Hate Talking: Um, they have not said publicly why they did that, uh, and they may never say that, uh, on exactly why they did that, but.
- 13:36I Hate Talking: That, um, the, the theory, again, take this with a grain of salt and be aware of everything that we just stated from those list of 9 warnings, uh, but.
- 13:46I Hate Talking: The uh the theory is that it is because uh the comment section was.
- 13:52I Hate Talking: Uh Actually filled with people wishing that the attempt had been successful.
- 13:59I Hate Talking: Wow.
- 14:00I Hate Talking: Now there is some odd conspiracy theories out there.
- 14:04I Hate Talking: Uh, one of the ones that I chuckled at is, uh, people quoting Revelation 133, which says, and I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death and his deadly wound was healed and all the world wondered after the beast.
- 14:19I Hate Talking: So are they calling?
- 14:21I Hate Talking: Trump the beast, is he magically healed?
- 14:25I Hate Talking: I'm.
- 14:26I Hate Talking: Confused.
- 14:28I Hate Talking: Yeah, I think they're uh basically saying that he's the anti-Christ and, uh, yeah, I don't think that, uh, that's uh.
- 14:36I Hate Talking: A apt application of that particular verse, um, he, uh, certainly was not appeared wounded to death.
- 14:45I Hate Talking: Uh, he jumped up pretty quickly and because he was healed.
- 14:49I Hate Talking: Oh, magically healed, yes, right there by the, the Secret Service, uh, members laying their hands on him, um, but they were actually from what I could tell, trying to keep him down, trying to surround him, keep him protected and Uh, he was trying to get back to his speech, or at least make sure everybody knew that he was OK.
- 15:07I Hate Talking: Right.
- 15:07I Hate Talking: I feel like, I mean, I don't know him personally, obviously, but from just watching his personality, my opinion, because it definitely looked like they were trying to keep him down and he was fighting to get up.
- 15:19I Hate Talking: I felt like, yeah, either he wanted to do his speech or he wanted to show.
- 15:23I Hate Talking: Everyone, he was OK and like that I'm Strong.
- 15:28I Hate Talking: I'm um bigger than this, or better than this.
- 15:32I Hate Talking: You know, if we're just uh pausing for a second, when this happened, we were planning on doing a family dinner, or we did family dinner.
- 15:40I Hate Talking: We were planning on watching a movie tonight.
- 15:42I Hate Talking: I got ice cream for the family, so it was going to be a fun thing.
- 15:45I Hate Talking: And I was prepping all that when you let me know, like, hey, And so I stopped Prepping it came right over to see, and we were watching the replay that just happened seconds ago.
- 15:58I Hate Talking: And our kids, well, a couple of them came over and they were interested.
- 16:02I Hate Talking: And it was really hard to like, be interested in what was happening, but also knowing that this is, they're watching this.
- 16:12I Hate Talking: And they were like, what's happening?
- 16:15I Hate Talking: Is he OK?
- 16:16I Hate Talking: And so we're trying to say like, oh look, he's walking off the stage, so he's OK, cause they thought he may have passed away.
- 16:23I Hate Talking: We're like, no, he's OK because he's walking.
- 16:26I Hate Talking: So even the fact that he did stand up and walk, I think, whether that was his intention or not, Gave at least us a relief of like as our child was inadvertently watching the scene happen live.
- 16:39I Hate Talking: And like, you know, that we could just say he's OK, or he'll be OK.
- 16:43I Hate Talking: Exactly.
- 16:44I Hate Talking: So, um, some other conspiracy theories that are out there, uh, we've seen some people theorizing that this was either didn't even happen, um, or was all staged, uh, which is, I think, pretty incredible, but again, making, uh, huge jumps to conclusion, um, so that was some of the things that we saw out there.
- 17:11I Hate Talking: Um, we did see some posts about, uh, the person in the audience that appears to have passed away, um.
- 17:20I Hate Talking: And that is, uh, seems like that person was hit in the head and uh passed away, um, in the audience in the bleachers, um, and there's some photographs uh of that uh after the scene.
- 17:35I Hate Talking: And then there's also an interesting interview that uh the BBC has, um, but it actually is an in-person interview of a BBC reporter with a gentleman that was not at the rally but was adjacent to the rally and uh that particular person is on this.
- 17:57I Hate Talking: Interview saying that they actually saw the shooter bear crawling with a rifle on a roof, notified police officers, uh, but they did not stop or were unable to stop the shooter before anything transpired, which, uh, there's a number of people commenting on that in that, uh, the law enforcement should have notified Secret Service and, you know, started pulling Trump off the stage.
- 18:26I Hate Talking: Um, but obviously hard to know exactly what transpired and these things can take from, you know, mere seconds to minutes to, uh, to make these things, uh, come to be so, uh, hard to say exactly, uh, what was going on.
- 18:43I Hate Talking: Um, there are a number of photos and even some quote unquote.
- 18:48I Hate Talking: People that uh were on site witnesses again, according to, to their own uh commentary here that the snipers that were set up as overwatch for the president, uh, did seem to perhaps become more actively alert and um we actually trained on the supposed roof of where the shooter was.
- 19:13I Hate Talking: uh, so there may have been some advanced notice or, you know, perhaps the Uh, law enforcement, Secret Service sniper, uh, did see this happening and was, uh, you know, checking out what was going on.
- 19:27I Hate Talking: So again, lots of information that is happening in real time and we all have to take with a grain of salt, but we do know, um, at this point in time.
- 19:36I Hate Talking: One dead in the audience, one critically injured in the audience, the shooter is dead and President Trump.
- 19:43I Hate Talking: Appears to be Perfect health except for his ear.
- 19:48I Hate Talking: Well, yeah, so hurt, but OK.
- 19:51I Hate Talking: Um, you know, to give, I mean, yeah, I heard that story too of the gentleman that And his friends that saw this happen.
- 20:02I Hate Talking: And um I think he, did he say he spoke to a local, like a police officer, right?
- 20:10I Hate Talking: All I'm saying, like, to give them all the benefit of a doubt, is I remember, uh, man, like 20 years ago, we were in uh DC.
- 20:19I Hate Talking: And My brother saw someone on a roof with a gun.
- 20:25I Hate Talking: And um there were tons, we were at, um, I think it was the Capitol, and there are tons of people, and he asked him this, um, One of the guards there, like, is that guy with a gun supposed to be there?
- 20:40I Hate Talking: And the guy's countenance, like it changed.
- 20:42I Hate Talking: You could see like he was like on alert at that moment, he's like, where?
- 20:46I Hate Talking: And we, he pointed and he's like, oh, yeah.
- 20:49I Hate Talking: Like, I guess it was like another guard that just hangs out on the roof, just laying there.
- 20:54I Hate Talking: I don't know, apparently.
- 20:56I Hate Talking: So, you know, if they're saying that, if it's a local person, they might not know where all of the Secret Service are.
- 21:04I Hate Talking: Where all their snipers are, you know what I mean?
- 21:06I Hate Talking: Like, they could have been like, oh yeah, it's probably one of those, or they could have been checking with somebody else who needed to check with whoever, right?
- 21:14I Hate Talking: and figure out where everybody is, and if this guy is a real threat, or if he is um security.
- 21:22I Hate Talking: Yup.
- 21:23I Hate Talking: So again, uh, goes back to situational awareness, right?
- 21:28I Hate Talking: That's good that uh Your brother was aware of those things.
- 21:31I Hate Talking: I think we all need to be aware of those things as well.
- 21:35I Hate Talking: Um, so as we wrap this, uh, bonus episode up, uh, there are a few things that are just again interesting to note.
- 21:46I Hate Talking: Uh, there is a quote from Joe Biden on July 9, 2024, uh, that where he said it's time to put Trump in the bull's eye.
- 21:57I Hate Talking: But you.
- 21:59I Hate Talking: Alleging there Not alleging anything.
- 22:04I Hate Talking: I think that some people are alleging that this is somehow perpetrated by the Democrats or in some way their supporters.
- 22:14I Hate Talking: Uh, I don't think that is the case.
- 22:16I Hate Talking: I think that if uh attempt, especially in this case being unsuccessful will galvanize Trump supporters and even if they had been successful with this assassination attempt that again uh the Trump base would have been galvanized and um.
- 22:32I Hate Talking: You know, a lot of the swing states probably would not be uh as much of a swing state anymore, but would rather go to uh grassroots Trump supporters.
- 22:42I Hate Talking: Um, Another interesting quote is, uh, Senator Chuck Schumer said, uh, the intelligence community has 6 ways till Sunday to get back at you, uh, talking about President Trump.
- 22:56I Hate Talking: So again, another interesting uh quote, uh, that, uh.
- 23:01I Hate Talking: Not sure exactly the date on that one, but that was uh I think either actually today or earlier this week.
- 23:09I Hate Talking: Um, so, uh, again, don't think that uh there was any purposeful intent by any of the Democrats' comments on, uh, either of these statements.
- 23:24I Hate Talking: However, Uh, it may be interesting to consider if the shooter was in some way encouraged or uh incited to violence by any of these comments, we'll never know, I think, uh, you know, it takes a, uh, number of years for the Nashville shooter manifesto to come out and that was only I think through non uh official means so.
- 23:53I Hate Talking: I don't think we'll ever have the entire story on this situation, uh, but nonetheless, uh, we can do our due diligence and consider some of the strategies that we outlined at the beginning of the episode from on the Media.org.
- 24:08I Hate Talking: And be able to diligently.
- 24:11I Hate Talking: Be aware of what is going around us in our world, right, and be aware of the words we use too.
- 24:20I Hate Talking: Um, especially nowadays.
- 24:24I Hate Talking: How everything's recorded.
- 24:26I Hate Talking: Um You know, just words, even if you're just saying out of frustration or anything, they can really cause harm.
- 24:38I Hate Talking: Whether um and just like right now as a nation, those who are that are in the states, like, I'm just, I think I'm concerned about the coming days.
- 24:53I Hate Talking: Already there was such a divide and a lot of anger on both sides.
- 24:58I Hate Talking: And um.
- 25:01I Hate Talking: I'm just worried about what's going to happen with, I just feel like there's gonna be more anger and more polarization.
- 25:08I Hate Talking: And I just want us all to be kind and use nice words.
- 25:12I Hate Talking: There's a family right now that they're Spouse or whoever it was that passed away.
- 25:18I Hate Talking: You know, isn't coming home tonight, and they were expecting them to.
- 25:23I Hate Talking: And there's another one that's in the hospital.
- 25:25I Hate Talking: Hopefully we'll return home eventually.
- 25:27I Hate Talking: But There are people right now that are really hurting and our mean words and our.
- 25:33I Hate Talking: Jumping to conclusions isn't helping anything.
- 25:37I Hate Talking: Exactly.
- 25:39I Hate Talking: So we can uh always consider those things.
- 25:42I Hate Talking: So from your friends that I hate talking until next time, remember, it is only through talking that we begin the journey to understanding.
