- 1:08Speaker 1: Hey everyone, I'm Chris Hansen. Welcome to Crime Watch Daily.
- 1:11Speaker 1: It was a verdict that outraged our viewers. How could
- 1:14Speaker 1: a man who admitted to stabbing and dismembering someone not
- 1:17Speaker 1: get life in prison?
- 1:19Speaker 2: The case begins with a couple in love and their
- 1:21Speaker 2: trip to a place known as Devil's Island. Here's Michelle
- 1:24Speaker 2: Sagona Chris.
- 1:25Speaker 6: It was supposed to be a fresh start, two lovers
- 1:28Speaker 6: dropping everything to love, a life of leisure and a
- 1:31Speaker 6: tropical paradise, but it wouldn't play out that way. Instead,
- 1:35Speaker 6: it would be a trip marred by broken promises, betrayal,
- 1:39Speaker 6: and blood.
- 1:42Speaker 4: A young couple sets out on the adventure of a lifetime,
- 1:46Speaker 4: but only one of them comes back. A trail of deception.
- 1:52Speaker 9: From Panama to Costa Rica to southern California.
- 1:57Speaker 4: A history of violence.
- 2:00Speaker 10: There were reports of incidents both ways.
- 2:03Speaker 4: From the island, a gruesome discovery and a family torn apart.
- 2:09Speaker 5: He slipped the top of it open with his machete
- 2:12Speaker 5: and school rolled out.
- 2:17Speaker 4: It was here among the sun splashed beaches of southern
- 2:20Speaker 4: California where Yvonne Baldelli grew up.
- 2:24Speaker 11: She had one older sister and one older brother.
- 2:27Speaker 3: She was the baby of the family at the time.
- 2:29Speaker 8: She was fourteen when we got married. I just loved her.
- 2:32Speaker 8: She was very special and she was a very happy person.
- 2:37Speaker 4: But at nearly forty years old, the fashion of dog
- 2:40Speaker 4: lover with the infectious smile, seemed a bit lost, bouncing
- 2:44Speaker 4: from job to job, unsure of what she really wanted
- 2:48Speaker 4: out of life. Then she met a strong, six foot
- 2:52Speaker 4: two Midwestern man named Brian Brimager.
- 2:56Speaker 9: He served in the Marine Corps, and there are people
- 2:58Speaker 9: liked him. He had a gregarious personality. I think women
- 3:00Speaker 9: found him attractive, and upon Baldelli certainly did.
- 3:03Speaker 4: But just how positive was that attraction.
- 3:06Speaker 9: She was obviously very smitten with him, almost to the
- 3:10Speaker 9: detriment of anybody else.
- 3:11Speaker 4: In her life, and there were more than a few
- 3:14Speaker 4: little problems with that.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Mister Brimager was married at the time and was in
- 3:18Speaker 5: other relationships, but was seeing her.
- 3:20Speaker 4: How much Yvonne knew about Brian's wife or any other
- 3:23Speaker 4: women when they met isn't completely certain, but at some
- 3:27Speaker 4: point during their affair she not only found out, she
- 3:32Speaker 4: went public.
- 3:33Speaker 5: She wrote a letter to Brimager's then wife describing the
- 3:37Speaker 5: relationship that Brimmager had with her that he had with
- 3:41Speaker 5: another woman by the name of Kristen Werkovin. So she
- 3:43Speaker 5: was aware that Brimager was not being faithful to her.
- 3:47Speaker 4: And that should have been the end of Brian Brimager
- 3:50Speaker 4: and Devonne Baldelli instead. Brian eventually divorced, and over the
- 3:54Speaker 4: next few years he and Devonne maintained an on again,
- 3:57Speaker 4: off again relationship. Then suddenly things were on in a
- 4:02Speaker 4: very big way.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Whose idea was it for them to move to Panama.
- 4:06Speaker 8: Her words to me was that Brian came home and
- 4:10Speaker 8: he says, I'm retiring. At that time, she had lost
- 4:14Speaker 8: her job.
- 4:15Speaker 11: He told her forget about the job search. We're going
- 4:17Speaker 11: to Panama.
- 4:18Speaker 12: And she sold everything she had here in California, so.
- 4:21Speaker 3: You knew she meant business.
- 4:22Speaker 10: She was serious.
- 4:24Speaker 11: She told me she was going to design clothes and
- 4:26Speaker 11: sell them on the beach.
- 4:27Speaker 3: She had a plan.
- 4:29Speaker 11: Yes, she had a plan, and she was so happy.
- 4:32Speaker 4: And so with only a few sewing machines and Georgia
- 4:36Speaker 4: May the King Charles Spaniel, she considered her child. If
- 4:40Speaker 4: Vaughn took Brian's hand all the way to the small
- 4:43Speaker 4: ex pat community of Bocas del Toro, Panama.
- 4:47Speaker 5: They settled in fairly quickly into the island of Isla Canaro.
- 4:50Speaker 5: Bremager was playing the guitar at local bars. She was
- 4:54Speaker 5: attempting to work.
- 4:57Speaker 4: But, according to multiple witnesses, thanks and are to a
- 5:00Speaker 4: never ending supply of booze and coke. It soon became
- 5:04Speaker 4: a paradise lost.
- 5:07Speaker 6: It wasn't long after they got to Panama when things
- 5:12Speaker 6: really took a turn, and would you say the violence
- 5:15Speaker 6: began to escalate.
- 5:17Speaker 5: Absolutely, the violence began to escalate almost immediately when they
- 5:20Speaker 5: arrived in Panama.
- 5:22Speaker 10: What the landlord said is that every time they were together,
- 5:25Speaker 10: she observed Miss Baldelli being jealous and trying to push
- 5:29Speaker 10: and prod mister Brimmager.
- 5:32Speaker 4: But Brian pushed right back and then.
- 5:34Speaker 5: Some We have multiple witnesses who have all corroborated and
- 5:39Speaker 5: told us about the numerous times when Brian would punch Yvonne,
- 5:44Speaker 5: when Brian would strangle Yvonne, when Brian would kick her.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Her neighbor could hear it through the walls.
- 5:52Speaker 6: Did Yvonne ever reach out to anyone and say, I
- 5:56Speaker 6: don't know what to do?
- 5:57Speaker 5: You know, Yvonne had multiple people on the island did
- 6:00Speaker 5: come to her, and her response wasn't to deny the violence,
- 6:04Speaker 5: but was to describe it as something that she could handle.
- 6:07Speaker 4: But handle how On the night of November eighth, just
- 6:11Speaker 4: over a month after they first arrived, Yvonne and Brian
- 6:14Speaker 4: got into a heated argument.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Do you believe Yvonne was a victim of domestic violence?
- 6:19Speaker 4: Yes?
- 6:19Speaker 10: Absolutely?
- 6:20Speaker 6: Do you believe Brian Brimager was a victim of domestic violence?
- 6:23Speaker 10: Absolutely?
- 6:25Speaker 4: Sometime during the fight, Brian turned his back and Yvonne snapped.
- 6:31Speaker 10: Miss bell Delli took Brian's computer they had two laptops
- 6:35Speaker 10: at the time, took the laptop and smashed it on him.
- 6:40Speaker 4: After that, the couple's neighborhood, Yvonne quote screaming, bloody murder,
- 6:46Speaker 4: a series of loud thugs, and then nothing at all
- 6:53Speaker 4: for two days, no sign of Yvonne, but then both
- 6:57Speaker 4: she and Brian appear in town. Yvonne concealing her face
- 7:00Speaker 4: behind dark sunglasses.
- 7:02Speaker 5: There's photographs that she took from her own laptop of
- 7:05Speaker 5: her left eye having a massive bruise.
- 7:09Speaker 4: As records would later show, Brian punched her in the
- 7:12Speaker 4: face after she hit him with the laptop.
- 7:14Speaker 10: The laptop broke. That had an unintended consequence. The consequence
- 7:20Speaker 10: is that they were now both checking their email on
- 7:23Speaker 10: the same laptop. Miss Baldelli had somebody installed software on
- 7:27Speaker 10: that laptop to get mister Brimmager's email password.
- 7:32Speaker 4: And that's when she found out that the entire time
- 7:35Speaker 4: Brian had been in Panama with her, he was emailing
- 7:38Speaker 4: his other old blame, Kristin Wurkoven, and not.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Just that, he was saying, I'll be back home to
- 7:44Speaker 5: spend time if you would help raise our daughter. And
- 7:47Speaker 5: of course this is all without Yvonne Baldelli knowing about
- 7:50Speaker 5: the fact that he even had a daughter.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Apparently, while Brian was married to his first wife and
- 7:55Speaker 4: at the same time dating Yvonne, he had also fathered
- 7:59Speaker 4: a secret child with Kristen.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Yvonne just had no idea.
- 8:02Speaker 5: She had no idea. She was blind to the fact
- 8:06Speaker 5: that he was living a double life.
- 8:08Speaker 4: The date was November twenty sixth, According to court records.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Yvonne woke Brian up screaming about what she'd found.
- 8:16Speaker 10: She got very angry. They got into a fight.
- 8:19Speaker 4: That fight escalated, then at some point during the day,
- 8:22Speaker 4: Yvonne sat down at her computer to write a letter.
- 8:25Speaker 4: A little over two weeks later, a playing touchdown in
- 8:28Speaker 4: San Diego, only Brian stepped off.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Do people think where's the yvon they do coming up?
- 8:38Speaker 5: Brian was telling people she was just off with another
- 8:40Speaker 5: man in Costa Rica.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Where did Yvonne Baldelli go and sadistic taunts point in
- 8:46Speaker 4: a disturbing direction.
- 8:49Speaker 5: That individual hosted a comment saying I only used it
- 8:52Speaker 5: to dismember one stripper.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Now back to today's mystery Island of Lost Dreams, On
- 9:00Speaker 1: Baldelli and her boyfriend and ex marine have relocated to
- 9:03Speaker 1: a vacation paradise looking for a fresh start. Now is
- 9:06Speaker 1: Michelle's gonna pick up the story? That move would instead
- 9:09Speaker 1: set off a sinister chain of events filled with lies, mystery,
- 9:14Speaker 1: and multiple lovers.
- 9:16Speaker 4: When Ivonne Baldelli moved to Panama with her boyfriend Brian,
- 9:20Speaker 4: she thought it was to start a new life together.
- 9:24Speaker 4: But apparently they weren't both on the same page, and
- 9:28Speaker 4: when a return flight touched down in San Diego just
- 9:31Speaker 4: a few months later, they weren't both on that either.
- 9:36Speaker 5: He flies back to the United States, and he eventually
- 9:40Speaker 5: goes and gets his truck. He has to pick up
- 9:41Speaker 5: his trots right from Yvonne's sister, Michelle Valenzuela.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Before Brian and Devon left, Brian parked a truck full
- 9:48Speaker 4: of his things at Avon's sister's house. And if not
- 9:52Speaker 4: for that pickup, who knows where this story might have gone.
- 9:55Speaker 3: So he has to face the sister.
- 9:57Speaker 5: It does, and she asks Brian where my sister.
- 10:02Speaker 4: In fact, no one in Evonne's family had heard from
- 10:05Speaker 4: her in weeks, not since Yvonne found out Brian had
- 10:09Speaker 4: been emailing a woman named Kristin Wurkven, the mother of
- 10:13Speaker 4: a child Yvonne didn't even know Brian had.
- 10:16Speaker 9: It was unusual that when Brian came back that Michelle
- 10:20Speaker 9: had not heard her from her for over three weeks,
- 10:24Speaker 9: and that concerned her.
- 10:26Speaker 4: But was everyone just making a big fuss over nothing?
- 10:30Speaker 5: What Brian told people was that she had found out
- 10:33Speaker 5: on his computer that he had a daughter with Kristen Wrokovid,
- 10:36Speaker 5: and that she had become angry about this information and
- 10:39Speaker 5: decided to leave with another man to Costa Rica.
- 10:42Speaker 4: And as it turns out, just a few days after
- 10:45Speaker 4: that big November twenty sixth fight, Yvonne and Brian's Panamanian
- 10:50Speaker 4: landlord received an email from Evon's address confirming as much.
- 10:55Speaker 4: It read, Hey, nae Ay, Brian is a lying, cheating
- 10:59Speaker 4: expletive and I just couldn't stand dealing with it anymore.
- 11:03Speaker 4: I'm in Costa Rica for a while with a guy
- 11:06Speaker 4: I met at one of Brian's gigs when we first
- 11:08Speaker 4: moved here. We've been talking off and on since then,
- 11:11Speaker 4: and it's great to be spending time with someone who
- 11:14Speaker 4: can be considered a gentleman.
- 11:16Speaker 5: Michelle is immediately suspicious.
- 11:19Speaker 9: In fact, Michelle told Brian, I want to go to
- 11:23Speaker 9: the police and report her, missy.
- 11:26Speaker 3: And what did he say?
- 11:27Speaker 9: He said, why don't you just wait on that. Let
- 11:29Speaker 9: me try to reach out to her, contact her by
- 11:32Speaker 9: email and see if she'll get in touch.
- 11:34Speaker 4: And not long after that it seemed she did in
- 11:38Speaker 4: the email, and Vonne tells Michelle she's alive and well
- 11:42Speaker 4: and should be home in a few weeks for a
- 11:44Speaker 4: big family reunion. It was two days after Christmas when
- 11:48Speaker 4: Michelle sent her reply. So glad you responded, didn't want
- 11:52Speaker 4: a pry or bug, but I was worried. Wanted to
- 11:56Speaker 4: make sure you weren't kidnapped and someone pretending it was
- 11:59Speaker 4: you haha. After that, the emails from Evonne stopped, despite
- 12:03Speaker 4: repeated desperate please from her family to get in touch.
- 12:07Speaker 8: And I said, whatever you need, we just need you
- 12:10Speaker 8: to be okay, and we're not going to judge you.
- 12:12Speaker 3: We just contact us.
- 12:13Speaker 11: We just need to.
- 12:14Speaker 4: Know you're okay, And then came time for that big
- 12:17Speaker 4: family reunion, the one Yvonne said she would try to attend.
- 12:22Speaker 6: January twelfth comes around. The family gathering is there. Yvonne
- 12:26Speaker 6: doesn't show up. My heart drops, So you knew that
- 12:29Speaker 6: was sort of the last stop in all of it.
- 12:32Speaker 6: If she doesn't show up for this family gathering, then
- 12:35Speaker 6: it's going to be all hands on deck.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Almost immediately, Yvonne's sister starts her own investigation.
- 12:43Speaker 5: She enlists the help of a tech savvy relative, who
- 12:47Speaker 5: then starts to look at the origin of where the
- 12:49Speaker 5: emails from Yvonne's account were coming from.
- 12:52Speaker 8: Michelle found out that the emails had come from California,
- 12:58Speaker 8: Southern California.
- 13:00Speaker 5: More specific, the emails were actually coming from where Brian Bremager.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Was living, and perhaps the most suspicious part of all
- 13:08Speaker 4: who Brian was living with, the woman he'd been emailing
- 13:12Speaker 4: in Panama, the mother of his secret child, and most
- 13:16Speaker 4: shocking to Avon's family, his brand new bride, Kristin, wore COVID.
- 13:21Speaker 6: So Brian comes back to the United States gets engaged
- 13:25Speaker 6: to Kristen just within days, yes, within days.
- 13:29Speaker 5: Thin two days, within two days, He's engaged engaged and
- 13:33Speaker 5: he was married that same month.
- 13:35Speaker 8: Somebody forwarded me the registry from his new wife.
- 13:41Speaker 11: I screamed. I screamed hysterically in the house. My husband
- 13:46Speaker 11: got up and look at this.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Were you enraged?
- 13:50Speaker 2: I was angry?
- 13:52Speaker 6: And Michelle went to the local sheriff's office and actually
- 13:55Speaker 6: filed a missing person's review.
- 13:57Speaker 11: Yeah, actually she wasn't gonna report of missing. She was
- 13:59Speaker 11: with murder because she had felt that that's what had happened,
- 14:04Speaker 11: that she was murdered.
- 14:05Speaker 5: Coming up the local saw them going towards a boat dock.
- 14:10Speaker 5: That is the last time she has ever seen alive.
- 14:12Speaker 8: And we get to a shallow area and there were
- 14:16Speaker 8: like these garbage facts that were torn and there were
- 14:19Speaker 8: bones alof.
- 14:22Speaker 1: We returned to our crime watched daily mystery Island of
- 14:25Speaker 1: Lost Dreams.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Michelle Sigona is back.
- 14:27Speaker 6: Michelle Chris Yvonne Baldelli is missing after moving to Panama
- 14:31Speaker 6: with her boyfriend, and her.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Family is beyond worried.
- 14:34Speaker 6: When that boyfriend comes back home to California and almost
- 14:38Speaker 6: immediately marries another woman.
- 14:42Speaker 4: They looked like two people who have been in love
- 14:44Speaker 4: their whole lives. You'd never know that just a few
- 14:48Speaker 4: weeks before these wedding photos were taken, the groom, Brian Brimager,
- 14:53Speaker 4: was living in Panama with another woman's a woman now
- 14:57Speaker 4: missing and depending on who you are asked, presumed murdered.
- 15:03Speaker 5: The last time was she was seen alive was when
- 15:06Speaker 5: a local saw them going towards a boat dock and
- 15:10Speaker 5: they were fighting and Bremager was dragging her by the
- 15:13Speaker 5: arm back to the boat.
- 15:16Speaker 4: It was shortly after she discovered Brian's secret correspondence with Kristen,
- 15:21Speaker 4: but Brian said it was actually Yvonne who left him
- 15:24Speaker 4: for someone else ran off to Costa Rica, was some
- 15:27Speaker 4: mystery man. Curiously, Yvonne's bank card had been used at
- 15:31Speaker 4: a Costa Rican ATM around the same time.
- 15:34Speaker 6: Something was definitely wrong because not only was she missing,
- 15:37Speaker 6: but who else was missing?
- 15:39Speaker 3: With her?
- 15:39Speaker 12: Her dog?
- 15:40Speaker 11: She couldn't have kids, so that was her baby. She
- 15:43Speaker 11: would have never left her dog.
- 15:45Speaker 4: So with all the fake emails Brian sent posing as
- 15:49Speaker 4: Yvonne in hand, Yvonne's sister Michelle filed a report with
- 15:54Speaker 4: authorities and Brian was brought in for questioning.
- 15:57Speaker 5: He did sit and agree to speak with the FBI
- 16:00Speaker 5: when it was still mostly a missing person's investigation.
- 16:04Speaker 4: But he told them the same Costa Rican romance. He
- 16:07Speaker 4: told everyone else, what did you do?
- 16:10Speaker 8: I called the Costa Rican embassy to see if she
- 16:13Speaker 8: really went to Costa Rica, and she said nobody but
- 16:17Speaker 8: that passport ever entered the country.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Even more troubling.
- 16:21Speaker 8: When I call the American embassy in Panama, they said
- 16:25Speaker 8: that she never left Panama. You know, I said, we
- 16:29Speaker 8: gotta do something.
- 16:30Speaker 4: So, working in conjunction with American and Panamanian authorities, Yvonne's
- 16:35Speaker 4: family flew to Bogus del Toro to start their own search.
- 16:39Speaker 8: We by ourselves quietly walked all around the island as
- 16:44Speaker 8: far as we could go, and then went back the
- 16:46Speaker 8: other way as.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Far as we could go.
- 16:48Speaker 11: And we would do that every day, and we would
- 16:50Speaker 11: look everywhere.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Grueling work for anyone, let alone Evonne's aging parents.
- 16:56Speaker 5: There hadn't been any proof she had been murdered, and
- 16:58Speaker 5: certainly no proof that she had been murdered by Brimager.
- 17:02Speaker 4: What authorities did have was a growing mountain of circumstantial
- 17:05Speaker 4: evidence for one those fake emails.
- 17:09Speaker 6: He was flat out asked, did you impersonate Yvonne?
- 17:12Speaker 11: Yes?
- 17:13Speaker 3: And he said, nah, that's right.
- 17:15Speaker 4: In addition to that, there were upsetting reports out of
- 17:19Speaker 4: Panama of Brian suddenly flushed with cash after Yvonne's disappearance,
- 17:24Speaker 4: buying everyone in the bar drinks while toasting her name.
- 17:28Speaker 4: And as for those atm withdrawals tying Yvonne to Costa Rica,
- 17:33Speaker 4: turns out, when Brian left Panama to come back to
- 17:36Speaker 4: the States, he made one little stop along the way.
- 17:40Speaker 9: He purposely took a trip to Costa Rica to bolsters
- 17:44Speaker 9: storing to withdraw money from Levon's account to make it
- 17:46Speaker 9: look like she had been to Costa Rica.
- 17:49Speaker 4: But of all the damning clues, there was one that
- 17:52Speaker 4: stood out as particularly disturbing. Apparently, Yvonne wasn't all Brian
- 17:57Speaker 4: left behind on the island.
- 17:59Speaker 5: Mister Brimig had brought a machete down to Panama with him.
- 18:02Speaker 5: Then he had given the machete in exchange for a
- 18:04Speaker 5: debt of the ode to a local Panamanian person that
- 18:07Speaker 5: was there on the island.
- 18:09Speaker 4: That person then put the machete up for sale on
- 18:12Speaker 4: a local website.
- 18:13Speaker 5: And mister Brimager happened to have seen that it was
- 18:15Speaker 5: up for sale, and he logged into that site and
- 18:17Speaker 5: he posted a comment saying, don't worry. That machete was mine.
- 18:21Speaker 5: I brought her from the United States. It's barely been used.
- 18:24Speaker 5: I only used it to dismember one stripper.
- 18:28Speaker 4: A terrible joke or something more. Police bring the machete
- 18:32Speaker 4: to the States for testing, but it comes back clean.
- 18:36Speaker 4: And after over a year of searching for Evonne and Panama,
- 18:39Speaker 4: the family comes back with little more than a collection
- 18:42Speaker 4: of traumatic moments like this.
- 18:45Speaker 8: We get to a shallow area and they were like
- 18:48Speaker 8: these carbage bags that were torn.
- 18:53Speaker 11: And there were bones all over.
- 18:58Speaker 4: They would later turn out to be animal bones. But
- 19:01Speaker 4: Yvonne's parents were forced to leave the island before getting confirmation.
- 19:05Speaker 11: And when we.
- 19:06Speaker 8: Had to leave the island, and when we had to
- 19:08Speaker 8: leave the country, I could not live with myself thinking
- 19:13Speaker 8: that I left her behind and that that maybe those
- 19:17Speaker 8: are her bones.
- 19:18Speaker 9: She had a nervous breakdown and had to be hospitalized.
- 19:22Speaker 9: Going through all that and not being able to bring
- 19:24Speaker 9: yvon back was just very devastating.
- 19:28Speaker 6: At this point, Yvonne's family is sacrificing so much time, money,
- 19:35Speaker 6: energy searching for their loved one.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Brian Brimager's back here in San Diego.
- 19:39Speaker 9: Doing what he's living the life of Riley. He is
- 19:42Speaker 9: going to school, he's golfing. Kristen and Brian then had
- 19:47Speaker 9: another kid, and.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Through it all, Brian maintained his same old story, one
- 19:54Speaker 4: that was rapidly unraveling.
- 19:56Speaker 5: He denied doing anything other than just knowing she had
- 19:59Speaker 5: read off with another man. Once we were able to
- 20:02Speaker 5: review the contents of his computer and interview him, it
- 20:06Speaker 5: became very clear to us that he was the one
- 20:09Speaker 5: that was involved coming up. This is one of the
- 20:12Speaker 5: most tragic parts of this case.
- 20:14Speaker 4: Does justice come too late?
- 20:16Speaker 5: Mister Bremager really took both.
- 20:19Speaker 11: Of their daughters.
- 20:22Speaker 1: The motto of the US Marine Corps is semper fidelis.
- 20:25Speaker 2: It means always faithful.
- 20:26Speaker 1: However, ex Marine Brian Brimmager has been anything but that.
- 20:30Speaker 6: Michelle Chris Brimmager had moved with Yvonne to Island Paradise
- 20:34Speaker 6: in Panama, but just a few weeks after she goes missing,
- 20:38Speaker 6: he marries the mother of his secret love child. So
- 20:42Speaker 6: at first he's charged and arrested. Where's he taken down?
- 20:47Speaker 5: He was arrested in his home in Carlsback, California, which
- 20:50Speaker 5: is actually the home of Kristen Workover.
- 20:52Speaker 4: The woman Brian married right after coming back from Panama
- 20:55Speaker 4: without Yvonne.
- 20:56Speaker 5: Initially, he was charged with obstruction of justice and making
- 20:59Speaker 5: faults statements to federal officers when he was interviewed. He
- 21:03Speaker 5: lied about having Yvonne's computer, lied about beating Yvonne, lied
- 21:07Speaker 5: about impersonating her through emails. He lied about multiple things
- 21:10Speaker 5: with the intent to obstruct justice.
- 21:13Speaker 4: It wasn't the charge of Vonn's family was hoping for,
- 21:17Speaker 4: but at the very least, Brian was off the streets. Still.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Even when confronted with his own lies, Brian continued to
- 21:26Speaker 4: deny having anything to do with Vonn's disappearance. But then,
- 21:30Speaker 4: roughly one month after his arrest, breaking news out of Panama.
- 21:36Speaker 5: There was a Panamanian man who lived out in the
- 21:38Speaker 5: middle of this jungle, and he was building a trail
- 21:42Speaker 5: from his hut out to the coast, and he was
- 21:46Speaker 5: chopping away with his machete, and he came across a
- 21:49Speaker 5: military style duffel bag. He slit the top of it
- 21:52Speaker 5: open with his machete, and Yvonne's skull rolled out in
- 21:58Speaker 5: front of him.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Are all of the body parts there?
- 22:01Speaker 5: No, they were not able to find an entire skeleton.
- 22:06Speaker 3: What was that night like?
- 22:07Speaker 12: For you, because they didn't find all her remains.
- 22:10Speaker 13: That was hard to know that there's pieces of her missing.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Large uniformed cuts in many of the bones till at
- 22:18Speaker 4: least part of the gory tale.
- 22:21Speaker 11: It's just very hard to think that she was.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Top fun.
- 22:27Speaker 4: But even with Vonn's remains found, Brian remained silent while
- 22:31Speaker 4: the prosecution worked with Avon's family to build its case.
- 22:37Speaker 4: Unfortunately for the prosecution, star witness time was running out.
- 22:43Speaker 5: You know, this is one of the most tragic parts
- 22:45Speaker 5: of this case. Yvonn's sister, Michelle Valenzuela, was diagnosed with
- 22:49Speaker 5: breast cancer. During the time that she was so desperately
- 22:52Speaker 5: trying to find her sister and so desperately trying to
- 22:55Speaker 5: find justice for her sister, she wasn't taking proper care
- 22:59Speaker 5: of herself. She was so focused on her sister that
- 23:01Speaker 5: she missed a lump in her breast.
- 23:04Speaker 4: By the time her sister's body was finally found that
- 23:08Speaker 4: cancer had metastasized to Michelle's brain.
- 23:12Speaker 5: They weren't certain how much longer she would be available
- 23:15Speaker 5: and coherence, and so we sought an emergency deposition of
- 23:20Speaker 5: a potential witness because we didn't believe that she would
- 23:22Speaker 5: be able to make it all the way to trial.
- 23:25Speaker 5: Good afternoons, value, good afternoon, How are you?
- 23:29Speaker 3: I'm quie.
- 23:31Speaker 4: For as long as she could.
- 23:33Speaker 11: This is my sister, Vaughn both Deli.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Michelle sat across the table from the man she knew
- 23:39Speaker 4: killed her sister and set her peace.
- 23:42Speaker 9: Since dropping off at the airport. We had to defendant,
- 23:46Speaker 9: did you ever see your sister again?
- 23:48Speaker 3: Now?
- 23:49Speaker 4: Brian said nothing. I was saying that he murdered my sister.
- 23:56Speaker 5: After the deposition, we wheeled her back to the hotel room.
- 24:01Speaker 5: She asked how she did. We told her she did great,
- 24:05Speaker 5: and she went to sleep and she never regained consciousness again.
- 24:14Speaker 11: You know, you couldn't have had a better sister than
- 24:20Speaker 11: Michelle's a champion.
- 24:22Speaker 6: She as a champion to use the last moments of
- 24:27Speaker 6: her life to sit down and to give everything she could.
- 24:32Speaker 5: It was one of the strongest demonstrations of strength and
- 24:36Speaker 5: fortitude that I've ever seen. Mister Bremager really took both
- 24:41Speaker 5: of their daughters.
- 24:42Speaker 4: But still Brian copped to nothing, something that was about
- 24:46Speaker 4: to become much harder to do because of one key
- 24:49Speaker 4: piece of evidence.
- 24:51Speaker 3: That machete was found.
- 24:53Speaker 5: It was anima he needed to get her to be
- 24:56Speaker 5: small enough to fit in the backpack.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Coming up shocking first hand details about what happened that night.
- 25:03Speaker 3: We believe this is Kristen's house.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Tough questions for Brian's new bride.
- 25:07Speaker 8: Someone's coming.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Even after his ex girlfriend's body was found macheted in
- 25:14Speaker 4: the jungle, after he sat across from her dying sister
- 25:18Speaker 4: during her last moments on earth, Even with all the
- 25:22Speaker 4: evidence pointing right back at him, Brian Brimager still denied
- 25:26Speaker 4: having anything to do with Ivonne Baldelli's murder. But that
- 25:30Speaker 4: was about to become much harder to do.
- 25:33Speaker 5: Over a year after it had originally been tested and
- 25:35Speaker 5: they had found no blood, we were examining the machete
- 25:39Speaker 5: in preparation for trial and we found that the handle
- 25:42Speaker 5: could be removed. They removed the handle and found that
- 25:45Speaker 5: there was blood under the handle, the same DNA as
- 25:48Speaker 5: Yvon Baldelli.
- 25:50Speaker 4: When confronted with that news, Brian Brimager sat down with
- 25:54Speaker 4: his lawyers and finally started talking.
- 25:58Speaker 5: We were ready to go to trial, and he pled
- 26:00Speaker 5: guilty approximate in one month before trial.
- 26:03Speaker 4: It started just as Brian said it had so many
- 26:06Speaker 4: years before.
- 26:07Speaker 5: Around the time for death, that the victim had logged
- 26:11Speaker 5: onto his account and had found out that mister Brimager
- 26:15Speaker 5: had another relationship with Kristin Werkowin had a child.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Brian's defense claims that a violent, a day long fight ensued,
- 26:23Speaker 4: culminating in Avonne pulling a knife. Brian fought back, beating
- 26:29Speaker 4: Avon before getting hold of the knife and using it
- 26:33Speaker 4: to fatally stab her in the back. Then things really
- 26:38Speaker 4: got gruesome.
- 26:40Speaker 5: He said that after he had stabbed her in the back,
- 26:43Speaker 5: he knew that he needed to move her and bury
- 26:45Speaker 5: in the jungle, and in order to do that, he
- 26:47Speaker 5: needed to get her to be small enough to fit
- 26:49Speaker 5: in a backpack.
- 26:50Speaker 4: And so, in his own words, Brian Brimager dragged his
- 26:54Speaker 4: girlfriend into the bathroom and used his machete to dismember her. Then,
- 27:01Speaker 4: to make it look like she really did just run
- 27:04Speaker 4: off with all her things, he killed her dog.
- 27:08Speaker 3: What the dog's remains ever found?
- 27:10Speaker 5: No, they were not.
- 27:11Speaker 4: But what really started that final fight? Was there? A
- 27:16Speaker 4: deeper motive? Evidence found on Ivanne's computer begged the question.
- 27:21Speaker 5: She had drafted a letter entitled work covin the name
- 27:25Speaker 5: of Kristen Workhoven. We believe that she intended to send
- 27:28Speaker 5: that letter and intended to make sure that Brian's plans
- 27:32Speaker 5: to return and live with Kristen and raise his daughter
- 27:35Speaker 5: weren't going to happen, and he wasn't gonna let her talk,
- 27:38Speaker 5: so he killed her.
- 27:40Speaker 6: The US Attorney's Office does believe the motive is that
- 27:45Speaker 6: he wanted to silence her.
- 27:47Speaker 10: I don't think that holds water, you don't, I don't.
- 27:50Speaker 10: I think this was a fight that escalated and then
- 27:52Speaker 10: he had to figure out what to do. I think
- 27:55Speaker 10: it was a huge mistake. He found himself in that
- 27:58Speaker 10: moment Panama, not knowing what to do and having to
- 28:04Speaker 10: make terrible decisions.
- 28:06Speaker 4: But if it really was all just a heat of
- 28:08Speaker 4: the moment situation, what about Brian's behavior after he got
- 28:13Speaker 4: off the island, probably.
- 28:15Speaker 9: The most heinous and cool acts he committed, or what
- 28:18Speaker 9: he put that family through in making them believe that
- 28:22Speaker 9: Vaughan was still alive given the false hopes she was
- 28:25Speaker 9: still alive.
- 28:26Speaker 4: And then there was that Facebook comment about using his
- 28:30Speaker 4: machete to quote dismember one stripper?
- 28:33Speaker 3: Is there any response for that?
- 28:37Speaker 12: What he did was in terrible taste, but it wasn't
- 28:43Speaker 12: to denigrate her memory or because he's cold blooded. It
- 28:48Speaker 12: was to make everybody look away, to Flant.
- 28:52Speaker 10: It was a deflection. Brian, I think, remains remorseful and
- 28:56Speaker 10: remains repentant.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Yvonne's parents have strong opinions about what Brian can do
- 29:02Speaker 4: with his remorse.
- 29:04Speaker 11: There's no way I believe that he's sorry.
- 29:07Speaker 4: In the end, Brian was sentenced to twenty six years
- 29:10Speaker 4: in federal prison, which means no chance of parole.
- 29:14Speaker 11: May twenty fifth was the sentencing. May twenty eighth. We
- 29:18Speaker 11: were able to take Yvonne back to San Diego, close
- 29:23Speaker 11: to where her home was and give her a sendoff
- 29:26Speaker 11: that was dignified. That was something worthy of Yvonne.
- 29:31Speaker 4: Justice has been served for Yvonne's killer, but what about
- 29:35Speaker 4: the woman who, even to this day, continues to stand
- 29:39Speaker 4: by his side.
- 29:40Speaker 8: The beginning of when some people start making comments about
- 29:43Speaker 8: his wife, my husband said, you know, she's a victim,
- 29:48Speaker 8: like Yvonne was a victim.
- 29:50Speaker 11: Let's be patient. But now after she knows what Yvonne suffered.
- 29:56Speaker 11: He broke her nose and broke her job, broke her tear.
- 30:00Speaker 8: Stabbed her over and over and over again, and chopped
- 30:03Speaker 8: her up a little pieces and threw her in a swamp?
- 30:07Speaker 11: Is she supporting the man that destroyed Yvonne? I'm sorry,
- 30:11Speaker 11: I don't have any understanding for her.
- 30:14Speaker 4: And we wanted to help Ivonn's parents find that understanding.
- 30:19Speaker 4: So we set our own Jason Mattera to Kristen's home
- 30:22Speaker 4: to try and get some answers.
- 30:24Speaker 7: Let's see what Kristen has to say for herself. Does
- 30:27Speaker 7: she still support her husband after what he pleaded guilty to?
- 30:33Speaker 3: Someone's coming?
- 30:35Speaker 7: Jason Mattera with Crime Watch Daily.
- 30:37Speaker 5: Is Kristen here?
- 30:39Speaker 7: Can you open the door? Is Kristin Kristen your daughter?
- 30:44Speaker 7: Is there a Kristen that lives here? Jason Mattera with
- 30:48Speaker 7: Crime Watch Daily, We're doing a story about Kristen's husband's conviction. Brian.
- 30:56Speaker 7: She doesn't live here? Where does she where?
- 30:59Speaker 9: No?
- 30:59Speaker 11: Where does she lived?
- 31:00Speaker 7: Do you know her? Miss?
- 31:03Speaker 4: The woman behind the door refuses to open up, but
- 31:06Speaker 4: we had to try one more time to get Kristen's
- 31:09Speaker 4: side of the story.
- 31:10Speaker 7: Just had a question on whether Kristen still stands by
- 31:13Speaker 7: Brian or not. Brian's attorney says that she still supports him,
- 31:20Speaker 7: odd considering what he's convicted of.
- 31:24Speaker 4: After several more minutes of knocking, we're forced to leave
- 31:28Speaker 4: without the answers we came for. Repeated calls to kristin
- 31:32Speaker 4: Workoven by our producers have also gone unanswered. So for now,
- 31:37Speaker 4: this is where we're left. Two daughters lost, a family
- 31:42Speaker 4: fractured but not broken.
- 31:44Speaker 8: We pray and we look forward to when they've seen
- 31:47Speaker 8: them again, to hug them again and.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Tell them how much we love them.
- 31:51Speaker 11: Moments we missed them, that's her.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Twenty six years hardly seems like enough time for a
- 32:00Speaker 1: guy like this.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Now we want to hear from you.
- 32:03Speaker 1: If your husband was accused of a horrible crime like this,
- 32:06Speaker 1: would you stay by his side like Grimmager's wife is
- 32:08Speaker 1: doing sound off right now on our Facebook page, coming
- 32:13Speaker 1: up disorder in his courtroom, But this judge is not
- 32:17Speaker 1: having it.
- 32:17Speaker 13: Ninety three days in the county jail stand off and.
- 32:22Speaker 1: When things really begin to escalate, see how far I
- 32:25Speaker 1: went to protect a woman from her crazy stalker.
- 32:28Speaker 13: I had to make a decision to act hes just
- 32:30Speaker 13: sit on the sidelines and let people become victims.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Next, This next guy got an overwhelming two thumbs up
- 32:40Speaker 1: from our viewers on social media. A Michigan judge who
- 32:43Speaker 1: decided to hop off the bench and get involved when
- 32:45Speaker 1: a defendant became unruly. It was a decision that would
- 32:49Speaker 1: go viral instantly in a terrified woman.
- 32:53Speaker 8: I don't even know him, so I just don't understand
- 32:56Speaker 8: how he's like so obsessed and like keeps messaging.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Me trying to escape a stalker with no regrets. I
- 33:03Speaker 2: want heard her tell me to leave her alone. You
- 33:06Speaker 2: know what, I told you, to leave her alone. But
- 33:09Speaker 2: he's about to have one big one stand on messing
- 33:15Speaker 2: with the wrong judge. Your hand behind the mat on
- 33:18Speaker 2: his home turn Hey man, right now.
- 33:26Speaker 1: It all went down here in Jackson County, Michigan, where
- 33:29Speaker 1: Judge John McBain prides himself on maintaining order.
- 33:33Speaker 2: In his court.
- 33:34Speaker 13: I'm known as kind of a no nonsense, law abiding
- 33:37Speaker 13: judge and I don't tolerate disorder and disruption in my
- 33:40Speaker 13: court room.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Today he meets his match, an alleged stalker named Jacob Larsen,
- 33:45Speaker 1: with no apparent respect for the law or the bench.
- 33:51Speaker 1: It's the defendant second time before Judge McBain. The first
- 33:54Speaker 1: time he only slapped Larsen with the restraining order demanding
- 33:57Speaker 1: he stay away from a former high school class.
- 34:00Speaker 13: You're out there hanging out of her place's employment.
- 34:03Speaker 9: You're putting things all over car.
- 34:05Speaker 13: Her managers have got to come in there.
- 34:07Speaker 2: And ask you to leave, but he violated it within hours.
- 34:11Speaker 6: I have messages from October night after we got out
- 34:14Speaker 6: of court, and then I have some from the twenty third.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Now his frightened victim is forced to face her tormentor
- 34:23Speaker 1: in court again. Thankfully, this judge is determined to make
- 34:27Speaker 1: her feel safe.
- 34:28Speaker 13: She was just absolutely terrified of this guy.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I've seen it before.
- 34:32Speaker 13: Some of these stalkers can be dangerous people.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Her seat is just a few feet from Marten, but
- 34:38Speaker 2: their stories couldn't be further apart.
- 34:40Speaker 1: She's instigating.
- 34:42Speaker 5: Why do you feel that she's instigating?
- 34:45Speaker 9: But she's posting pictures and whatnot.
- 34:47Speaker 8: Direct it to me.
- 34:50Speaker 2: All like a lot of makeup aired on.
- 34:53Speaker 9: All that stuff, like full nine. She's you know, subtly
- 34:58Speaker 9: and mean on Twitter.
- 35:00Speaker 5: So true.
- 35:00Speaker 3: I don't have him on Facebook, I don't have him
- 35:02Speaker 3: on Twitter.
- 35:03Speaker 6: I have him on no social media whatsoever.
- 35:05Speaker 3: My Twitter is private.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Judge mc bain tells the accused talker. It's all like
- 35:10Speaker 1: the movie Fatal Attraction. But it seems this defendant is
- 35:13Speaker 1: writing his own.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Lines I want he tell me to leave her alone.
- 35:17Speaker 1: You know what, I told you to leave her alone,
- 35:19Speaker 1: and apparently that didn't give true loud and clear.
- 35:22Speaker 9: So today you're going to jail for three days.
- 35:26Speaker 1: That's when the defendant makes a ridiculous claim you.
- 35:31Speaker 2: And Judge McBain loses his patience.
- 35:33Speaker 9: You got a bad attitude.
- 35:35Speaker 1: You got a bad attitude. Last time you're over.
- 35:37Speaker 2: You want her our body body forty five days county jail.
- 35:41Speaker 5: Okay, ninety three days in the county jail.
- 35:46Speaker 13: You want to go for a year, or try it
- 35:48Speaker 13: right now, one more more dot of you.
- 35:51Speaker 1: It will be a year of counting over Facebook, brilliant.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Ninety three days is how? Stand up?
- 36:00Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 36:01Speaker 1: Bloody, bloody more stand up.
- 36:04Speaker 2: You're going to jail.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Per year in account three hundred and sixty five days
- 36:08Speaker 1: county jail and.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Appealing.
- 36:12Speaker 4: I will good.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Put your hands behind your back. Now, the no nonsense
- 36:17Speaker 1: judge has finally heard it up and whips off his
- 36:19Speaker 1: black robe.
- 36:21Speaker 7: Right now.
- 36:22Speaker 13: I knew that if I had to get in a
- 36:24Speaker 13: little bit of a scrum with a defendant, I didn't
- 36:26Speaker 13: want to do it with my robot. Excluding that the
- 36:28Speaker 13: kind of thing you want to be wrestling.
- 36:30Speaker 1: In the enragedment's petrified target cowers and shock as the
- 36:35Speaker 1: suspect violently explodes.
- 36:37Speaker 13: I came up behind him and helped take him down
- 36:40Speaker 13: to the floor. Wrestled him down, and he was really
- 36:43Speaker 13: them resisting and kind of chicken winging and stuff.
- 36:49Speaker 2: I had to make a decision to act.
- 36:51Speaker 13: Hes just sit on the sidelines and let let people
- 36:54Speaker 13: become victims.
- 36:55Speaker 1: While the officer cuffs him. The furious suspect rages. It
- 36:59Speaker 1: is alleged victim.
- 37:00Speaker 7: Tell me to leave you alone, tell him right now.
- 37:03Speaker 2: And Judge McBain leaves to her defense.
- 37:06Speaker 13: He kind of stood up, and you know, he made
- 37:07Speaker 13: an aggressive move towards the petitioner, the woman. I was
- 37:11Speaker 13: somewhat concerned for her safety.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Behind your hat. For the first time in his career,
- 37:17Speaker 1: the judge leaves the bench during a trial, joining in
- 37:20Speaker 1: a dramatic courtroom takedown.
- 37:23Speaker 6: Right now, did hind your back?
- 37:36Speaker 2: We'll make it nine you think about it, camp.
- 37:45Speaker 13: I just wanted to get him on the ground and
- 37:47Speaker 13: get him when my court officer could get him coffed.
- 37:51Speaker 1: But once Larsen was on the ground, the judge noticed
- 37:53Speaker 1: the real danger.
- 37:54Speaker 2: A swinging handcuff.
- 37:56Speaker 5: That was evident to me.
- 37:57Speaker 13: He was swinging the handcuff and I was concerned that,
- 37:59Speaker 13: you know, my court officer could get very easily injured
- 38:02Speaker 13: at that point. That's a very dangerous thing to get
- 38:05Speaker 13: somebody that resists arrest and they've only got one cuff
- 38:08Speaker 13: on you, better off they have no cups on them one.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Thanks to Judge McBain's swift action, nobody has hurt, including
- 38:15Speaker 1: the defendant, who is restrained without a teaser.
- 38:18Speaker 13: Good news for him. He didn't have to get fifty
- 38:20Speaker 13: thousand coursing vaults, you know, and get tased.
- 38:23Speaker 1: After the trial, the offender did his time, but didn't
- 38:26Speaker 1: seem to learn a lesson. The judge says Larsen went
- 38:29Speaker 1: right back to harassing his victim.
- 38:31Speaker 13: I warned him if he violated it again, he'd be
- 38:34Speaker 13: referred to the prosecutor's office for aggravated stocking.
- 38:37Speaker 11: It was.
- 38:38Speaker 13: He violated it again, and now it'll be suffer trial
- 38:42Speaker 13: in front of a different judge on felony charges.
- 38:45Speaker 1: He may not be presiding, but Judge McBain might still
- 38:48Speaker 1: be on hand to make sure justice is served.
- 38:51Speaker 13: I will probably be a witness in the case. I
- 38:54Speaker 13: would hope that most judges would do the same thing
- 38:56Speaker 13: for their court officer.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Instead, we'll let you be the judge of.
- 39:01Speaker 5: That case, of that right now.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Mm hm
