Latest / Best of the NFL Podcast Network / The Season with Peter Schrager: More Netflix NFL Thoughts and Chiefs DB Justin Reid
Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, Everybody, This is
- 0:24Speaker 1: Peter Schreger Listening to the Season with Peter Schreger. We
- 0:28Speaker 1: are through Memorial Day weekend and we are looking at
- 0:32Speaker 1: the abyss of NFL news. But I wanted to pop
- 0:35Speaker 1: on and have a podcast because I want to check
- 0:37Speaker 1: out to one last week, and Aaron wan Kaufman is
- 0:41Speaker 1: joining me. I feel like we need to unpack the
- 0:43Speaker 1: schedule stuff a little bit and kind of set the
- 0:45Speaker 1: stage for what's going to happen over the next few weeks,
- 0:48Speaker 1: but also hit on some other things both around the league,
- 0:50Speaker 1: around New York City, and around the sports and pop
- 0:54Speaker 1: culture world. Aaron, I'll go back to our interview with
- 0:57Speaker 1: Mike North, which is our last podcast, and I didn't
- 1:01Speaker 1: realize his quote about the Jets owing US one and
- 1:04Speaker 1: us being the league what's gonna take off the way
- 1:07Speaker 1: it did? It was like national news, and I'm like,
- 1:10Speaker 1: did you say that on our podcasts? And then I
- 1:11Speaker 1: go back and the clip was from our podcast. So
- 1:14Speaker 1: what Mike North, who we love, the schedule maker from
- 1:17Speaker 1: the NFL, said was that the reason the Jets have
- 1:20Speaker 1: the most primetime games is because they're a Marquee team
- 1:23Speaker 1: and a Marquee network, and the way things went down
- 1:26Speaker 1: last year, tongue in cheek, he said, they owe us one.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Sure enough, the Jets have me, you can't. They asked
- 1:31Speaker 1: Rogers about it, and Rogers like, yeah, like, I think
- 1:34Speaker 1: we I think we did. Like Rogers was cool with it.
- 1:39Speaker 1: The Jets comment was big. The other thing that was
- 1:42Speaker 1: interesting was we were kind of on it before everyone else,
- 1:44Speaker 1: the Netflix deal and kind of unpacking that since so
- 1:50Speaker 1: I didn't realize how I'm not gonna say monumental it was,
- 1:56Speaker 1: but I think it caught a lot of people by
- 1:58Speaker 1: surprise if they were able to put together that Netflix
- 2:01Speaker 1: package so soon, because in March they had the league
- 2:04Speaker 1: meetings and Netflix was not in many of the conversations
- 2:07Speaker 1: with the other league broadcast partners. So you have your CBS,
- 2:10Speaker 1: you have your EVS, ESPN, you got Fox, you got NBC,
- 2:14Speaker 1: and how you got Amazon? Now, if you're Amazon, you're like,
- 2:17Speaker 1: all right, we just shelled out all this money for
- 2:21Speaker 1: the Black Friday ownership, which is kind of like that
- 2:24Speaker 1: holiday feel, and we're also gonna be getting a playoff game,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and we've now got a couple of years under our
- 2:30Speaker 1: belt with Thursday Night Football. If we're the official streaming
- 2:33Speaker 1: partner and we're paying all this money for Black Friday,
- 2:36Speaker 1: Christmas Day, seems like a natural link. Well, Netflix comes in.
- 2:39Speaker 1: They do the deal with Netflix, which interesting is it's
- 2:41Speaker 1: just for two games, and Netflix has given no indication
- 2:44Speaker 1: that they're looking to like buy a bigger package. From
- 2:48Speaker 1: all the reading and all the conversations I've done, Netflix
- 2:51Speaker 1: brings something that the other networks apparently do not, and
- 2:55Speaker 1: that is this global audience all under one tenth. So
- 2:59Speaker 1: what does that mean? Yeah, the Fox games are broadcasted overseas,
- 3:04Speaker 1: and yes the CBS games are broadcasted, but those might
- 3:07Speaker 1: be on partner networks like Sky or be in Sport
- 3:11Speaker 1: or wherever those those other networks are overseas. With Netflix
- 3:15Speaker 1: on this Christmas Day game, everyone's gonna watch it on
- 3:19Speaker 1: the same network, on the same broadcast, with the same voice,
- 3:22Speaker 1: the same production, all at once. Is there a value
- 3:24Speaker 1: to that? I guess. Netflix apparently reaches way more in
- 3:27Speaker 1: their global audience, and that was the NFL's push on it.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Netflix all also was willing to pay a certain dollar,
- 3:33Speaker 1: which I'm sure is very appealing in a lot of ways,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and it also brings another partner into the NFL, which
- 3:39Speaker 1: leads to, you know, negotiations with the league when it
- 3:42Speaker 1: comes to future games. Well, there's another person at the table.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I will say this. What's interesting is that, like in
- 3:49Speaker 1: this dynamic, does the NFL need Netflix? I'd say it's
- 3:54Speaker 1: nice to have to get that Netflix audience. We saw
- 3:56Speaker 1: that the Quarterback series with the number one rated series
- 3:59Speaker 1: last summer, and that was a cool partnership. And the
- 4:01Speaker 1: Brady Roast obviously has football, you know, tentacles. Does Netflix
- 4:07Speaker 1: need the NFL, I don't know. Like to me, everything
- 4:12Speaker 1: I've read, it's like they view this as an event,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and it's more like they're to the event of having
- 4:17Speaker 1: Christmas Day NFL and then they use that to maybe
- 4:22Speaker 1: promote the wrestling package they just paid five hundred million
- 4:26Speaker 1: dollars for throughout the Christmas Day event. They use that
- 4:29Speaker 1: to try out their new ad tier, which they're kind
- 4:31Speaker 1: of soft launching and using in a different way. You're
- 4:35Speaker 1: going to can't avoid the ads. If they're going to
- 4:36Speaker 1: do an NFL game, they'll put them on and they'll
- 4:38Speaker 1: be able to use that ad tier for the first time.
- 4:41Speaker 1: A lot of conversation to the Netflix thing. It wasn't
- 4:43Speaker 1: as necessarily clean and easy as like, all right, here
- 4:46Speaker 1: we go Netflix. It seems like some folks were caught
- 4:49Speaker 1: off guard a little bit. I don't think there's any
- 4:50Speaker 1: sour feelings. I don't think anyone's upset, But now you
- 4:53Speaker 1: have this Netflix deal. And the one thing that I
- 4:55Speaker 1: asked Mike North, which is interesting, is like, who's going
- 4:58Speaker 1: to broadcast these games? And when they says that, it's like,
- 5:00Speaker 1: who's going to produce the games? So when Amazon came
- 5:04Speaker 1: in for Thursday night football, NBC was very much in
- 5:07Speaker 1: line with Amazon and helped guide them through it. When
- 5:10Speaker 1: the NFL network broadcasted all those games on Thursday nights
- 5:14Speaker 1: for many years, it was the Fox broadcast crew would
- 5:18Speaker 1: help put it on. Then it was CBS would help
- 5:20Speaker 1: put those on. We still don't know, so I assume
- 5:24Speaker 1: this is how this will play out. Netflix will pay
- 5:28Speaker 1: either Fox, CBS or ESPN, Abc, NBC. I don't think
- 5:35Speaker 1: NBC because Amazon's with NBC, but one of those three
- 5:38Speaker 1: they'll pay them a fee and those guys will use
- 5:42Speaker 1: their producers, their trucks, their directors, their ads, their camera folks,
- 5:47Speaker 1: they'll come in with that and then on air. There
- 5:50Speaker 1: hasn't been really much discussion publicly, and I've tried to
- 5:53Speaker 1: work back channels, like what's the plan on air for
- 5:56Speaker 1: this Netflix presentation of these two great Christmas Day games?
- 5:59Speaker 1: I mean we're talking great games. You're talking Steelers Chiefs.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Those are two teams that are gonna be in the
- 6:04Speaker 1: playoff on they're talking Texans Ravens another two great teams.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Who's gonna be the broadcaster? So it's just gonna be like,
- 6:11Speaker 1: all right, well, CBS is broadcasting it, and the CBS
- 6:13Speaker 1: third crew is Andrew Catalan and Tiki Barber, So that's
- 6:18Speaker 1: who's doing the game. Or does Netflix truly say like no,
- 6:22Speaker 1: we want to have you know, I said Bert Kreischer
- 6:26Speaker 1: on the podcast with North, But it's like we have
- 6:30Speaker 1: a relationship with Kevin Hart, we have a relationship with
- 6:33Speaker 1: Nate BERGATZI, we have a relationship with Andre Agassy from
- 6:36Speaker 1: the tennis event, Like we want to mix this up
- 6:38Speaker 1: and maybe do a different approach at this. I know
- 6:41Speaker 1: there's a Netflix movie coming out now with Nicole Kidman
- 6:45Speaker 1: and Zach Efron, Like whatever the movie is that Christmas
- 6:49Speaker 1: do they want to incorporate those people into their broadcast.
- 6:51Speaker 1: They can. I would imagine the NFL has a has
- 6:54Speaker 1: a voice. But like I said, Netflix, they're looking at
- 6:57Speaker 1: this in an event. I don't think it's just gonna
- 6:59Speaker 1: be all right here it is, roll it out and
- 7:02Speaker 1: there's Rich Eisen, there's Kurt Warner, there's you know whoever
- 7:05Speaker 1: else or the CBS there's Nate Burlison, and there's you know,
- 7:10Speaker 1: Matt Ryan. I have to think they're gonna have their
- 7:12Speaker 1: own studio folks, and they were gonna have some sort
- 7:14Speaker 1: of different presentation which fascinated by. But uh, that's rapidly approaching,
- 7:19Speaker 1: Like this is already.
- 7:22Speaker 2: In bed with Omaha from quarterback. So I wonder if they're,
- 7:26Speaker 2: like you're saying, they're taking influence from the Manning cast.
- 7:28Speaker 2: So it would be so easy for them to have
- 7:31Speaker 2: Nicole Kidman, Zach Efron, whoever like jump.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Out and does the audience Does the NFL audience want that?
- 7:38Speaker 1: Like if I'm if I'm as if I'm a Steelers
- 7:41Speaker 1: fan and my team is seven and nine going in
- 7:44Speaker 1: or seven and seven going into the game, do I
- 7:47Speaker 1: want and I have one who presented it? Do I
- 7:49Speaker 1: want you know Nate Bergatzi Andrew Schultz, BT, you know,
- 7:53Speaker 1: cracking jokes about Russell Wilson the Rugs or do I
- 7:56Speaker 1: just want hey, I'm good, yeah, put on you know,
- 8:00Speaker 1: give me two random announcers from Fox. I'm like the four,
- 8:03Speaker 1: give me, give me Adam and Mark shal Earth and
- 8:07Speaker 1: I'm good. Let's just have the game on Netflix. Like so,
- 8:10Speaker 1: I think those are really in the weeds conversations. But
- 8:12Speaker 1: that's been sort of a buzz in the fallout after
- 8:16Speaker 1: the Netflix decision. I think it's cool. I think bring
- 8:19Speaker 1: in more partners, let's see different creative ways and more
- 8:22Speaker 1: people broadcasting football is better. The other thing that I
- 8:28Speaker 1: wanted to mention up top was the passing of Bill Walton. Aaron,
- 8:32Speaker 1: do you have any history of being a Walton fan
- 8:34Speaker 1: or a knowledge of Walton? I know you're of a
- 8:35Speaker 1: different generation. You're in your twenties. I'm in my forties.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Where do you stand on Walton?
- 8:40Speaker 2: I mean, I'm a huge basketball fan. I don't have
- 8:43Speaker 2: myself any memories of watching I'm also honored that you
- 8:46Speaker 2: think I'm in my twenties.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Because early thirties.
- 8:50Speaker 2: But I love this past week seeing so many other
- 8:56Speaker 2: basketball voices, voicing what Bill Walton meant not only to
- 9:00Speaker 2: the league as a player but afterwards as an ambassador
- 9:03Speaker 2: for the league and sort of like being there to
- 9:07Speaker 2: usher in this like kind a more connected period between
- 9:12Speaker 2: the NBA and the media, which I think he had
- 9:15Speaker 2: a pard in, especially early on. But I don't have like, oh,
- 9:19Speaker 2: I've got this his like sitting there watching Walton games
- 9:22Speaker 2: or anything.
- 9:22Speaker 1: So no, but I'll tell you growing up a huge
- 9:26Speaker 1: football fan, I obviously I always say this sounds a
- 9:29Speaker 1: huge hoopshead too, so like I have the you know,
- 9:33Speaker 1: knowledge of Walton's game, but I was thinking more of
- 9:35Speaker 1: just like as a broadcaster and as a personality. Obviously,
- 9:39Speaker 1: if you've written, if you've followed Walton, or you knew
- 9:42Speaker 1: the eulogy or the stuff that's been written in the
- 9:44Speaker 1: obituary is like he was like a terrible stat stuttering.
- 9:47Speaker 1: He overcame that and it's became one of the best broadcasters.
- 9:50Speaker 1: But like everyone has this nostalgia for NBA on NBC,
- 9:53Speaker 1: and it's Marv Albert and it's Fortello and it's Round
- 9:57Speaker 1: Ball Rock and it's Peter Vessi and it's a morber Shott.
- 9:59Speaker 1: But like those West Coast games were very often a
- 10:02Speaker 1: trio of Tom Hammond, who was kind of your like
- 10:06Speaker 1: you know, ham and Egg right down the middle. He
- 10:08Speaker 1: does the horse racing and he would do these West
- 10:11Speaker 1: Coast games. And then it was a duo of Bill
- 10:13Speaker 1: Walton and Steve Snapper Jones, and I think those guys
- 10:17Speaker 1: defined a generation of like West Coast basketball, because everyone
- 10:20Speaker 1: thinks of Marv Albert on the call for like Michael
- 10:23Speaker 1: Jordan versus Reggie Miller, or Michael Jordan versus Patrick Ewing,
- 10:26Speaker 1: or you named the East Coast Battle of the Nixon Pacers,
- 10:29Speaker 1: and that's true. On the West Coast, you would have
- 10:31Speaker 1: these games between like the Suns, you know, the Phoenix
- 10:35Speaker 1: Suns taking on the La Lakers in a first round
- 10:38Speaker 1: series that I remember was amazing. Those guys were on
- 10:41Speaker 1: the call, or like Courtland got really good in the
- 10:44Speaker 1: late nineties and they had this like awesome team, or
- 10:47Speaker 1: the Sacramento Kings and the Lakers in the early two thousands,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and it was always Bill Walton on those calls for
- 10:52Speaker 1: those West Coast playoff games, and he was truly like
- 10:56Speaker 1: out there, so out there, but you learned to embrace it.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And I just thought one of the interesting things is
- 11:03Speaker 1: like how he's been eulogized by everyone in sports. It's
- 11:06Speaker 1: not a out his accomplishments, not it's just like what
- 11:08Speaker 1: a good duty was, Like what a great dude, what
- 11:10Speaker 1: a great spirit. And that includes the Grateful Dead, you know,
- 11:14Speaker 1: you know, a whole world. Obviously, Jack coming out Reggie
- 11:18Speaker 1: Miller last night during during the game said like, you know,
- 11:21Speaker 1: when he walked onto the court at UCLA thirty one
- 11:23Speaker 1: years ago, Bill Walton like reached out and was like,
- 11:25Speaker 1: here's how you're gonna be a UCLA brewing. But you know,
- 11:28Speaker 1: Walton was like at one with the earth. He was.
- 11:31Speaker 1: He was a guy who would cycle sixty miles a day.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Super uh eccentric, but also super eclectic in his interests.
- 11:44Speaker 1: You know, the Grateful Dead stuff casts a shadow or
- 11:48Speaker 1: a or a haze over over a lot of this
- 11:50Speaker 1: stuff because you're like, wow, he is, he's really at
- 11:53Speaker 1: one with the earth. But like, really cool dude. And
- 11:56Speaker 1: you know, in an era where it's so much content
- 12:00Speaker 1: and there's an era where it's like, all right, I'm
- 12:02Speaker 1: gonna break down the exos and nose and tell you
- 12:04Speaker 1: what you're you know, there's a place for just a
- 12:07Speaker 1: good dude who was like a nice guy that everyone
- 12:09Speaker 1: liked talking to, who said crazy shit, and also was
- 12:13Speaker 1: really respected and beloved by those he worked with. Our
- 12:18Speaker 1: guest today on the podcast is going to be a
- 12:20Speaker 1: little outside the box. I usually resist from doing too
- 12:23Speaker 1: many players, and the reason why is because I think
- 12:26Speaker 1: the players are usually pretty tight lipped and don't have
- 12:30Speaker 1: much to say that it's compelling podcast content until they retire,
- 12:36Speaker 1: and then they start opening up and tell great stories,
- 12:39Speaker 1: either they go into media or they have these amazing
- 12:41Speaker 1: second lives, or if they don't, it's they have a
- 12:44Speaker 1: connection to the game. But as a current player, you're
- 12:47Speaker 1: usually pretty much p's and q's.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Now.
- 12:50Speaker 1: There are exceptions. The Kelsey Brothers do their podcast, Michael
- 12:54Speaker 1: Parsons Talks, Jamar Chase Talks. We've had a lot of
- 12:57Speaker 1: these guys in the media world. But if I'm being honest,
- 13:02Speaker 1: unless you're one of the top quarterbacks, or you're a
- 13:04Speaker 1: really interesting guy or a team leader who's been in
- 13:07Speaker 1: the league for many years, probably don't need to have
- 13:10Speaker 1: you on the season with Peter Sugar because we're trying
- 13:12Speaker 1: to get inside the huddle a little bit and into
- 13:14Speaker 1: the weeds and if you're going to open up, it
- 13:16Speaker 1: might not be over with me over a phone call
- 13:19Speaker 1: or in zoom or It's kind of why I Super
- 13:21Speaker 1: Bowl shows Aaron, whether it be Good Morning Football or
- 13:25Speaker 1: if you like I don't. I don't have much for
- 13:28Speaker 1: the player interview on behalf of Old Spice. It doesn't
- 13:31Speaker 1: do much for me if if you're being honest content wise,
- 13:33Speaker 1: but if you're telling me you can get a coach
- 13:35Speaker 1: or a GM where you can get an ex player
- 13:38Speaker 1: who used to play for the team that's in the
- 13:39Speaker 1: Super Bowl and knows Eric b Enemy and knows Andy Reid,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and sign me up. Say all that, because our guest
- 13:47Speaker 1: is coming on for an interesting reason. The guest is
- 13:52Speaker 1: Justin Reid, who is the starting safety and the Super
- 13:56Speaker 1: Bowl champion Chiefs, And that in itself is cool and
- 13:58Speaker 1: we could do a whole conversation and maybe we will.
- 14:02Speaker 1: But the reason I'm having him on is because I
- 14:04Speaker 1: saw a little blurb, a little blurb I'm like Apple
- 14:08Speaker 1: News last week that Justin Reid won a tournament called
- 14:15Speaker 1: the Blitz, which was the NFL's in house chess tournament. Yes,
- 14:21Speaker 1: the NFL's in house chess tournament where the NFL's best
- 14:25Speaker 1: chess players all competed. We're going to talk Chiefs and
- 14:29Speaker 1: we'll get there and he'll answer what he wants, But
- 14:32Speaker 1: I want to talk chess. Justin Reid's joining us right
- 14:35Speaker 1: for this. I'm so excited for our guests. He's a
- 14:43Speaker 1: Super Bowl champion two times over. He is the man
- 14:47Speaker 1: in the defensive back field for one of the best
- 14:50Speaker 1: defenses in the league, and obviously one of the most
- 14:53Speaker 1: vocal guys on that unit and a true leader. And
- 14:56Speaker 1: I want to talk to him about some of the
- 14:57Speaker 1: stuff he did off the field last week. Justin Reid,
- 15:00Speaker 1: Welcome to the season with Peter Schreger.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Hey, what's going on, Bro? Appreciate you bringing me on.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I love having on first off Super Bowl champion in February.
- 15:11Speaker 1: We're now at like mini camp in June. Is it
- 15:15Speaker 1: turned the page next year time? But with the ring
- 15:18Speaker 1: ceremonies still kind of hovering in the next couple of
- 15:20Speaker 1: weeks or can you still appreciate what we did last year?
- 15:24Speaker 1: Where are we as far as the mint ding?
- 15:25Speaker 4: Yeah, the last page of the book. We're doing on
- 15:28Speaker 4: the last page of the book, we're getting ready to
- 15:30Speaker 4: close it. We got the white House visit coming up
- 15:33Speaker 4: on Friday, and then we got the ring ceremony coming
- 15:36Speaker 4: up in about two weeks. So those are the last
- 15:38Speaker 4: two end notes or footnotes into this chapter. And then
- 15:42Speaker 4: we're going to close this book and open up a
- 15:44Speaker 4: new one and try and get our new players and
- 15:46Speaker 4: our young guys here that haven't had the chance to
- 15:48Speaker 4: experience the championship.
- 15:49Speaker 3: We're going to try and get the marine.
- 15:50Speaker 1: What's Coach Reed say about the White House visit that's
- 15:53Speaker 1: going to be in a couple of days. We're recording
- 15:55Speaker 1: this on Wednesday. Does he give like primers to the
- 15:58Speaker 1: young guys, like, okay, here's what the dresses I here?
- 15:59Speaker 1: Because I remember a couple of years ago, Kelsey took
- 16:01Speaker 1: the mic and it was like, all right, all bets
- 16:03Speaker 1: are off.
- 16:05Speaker 3: We'll see how good we are keeping them from it.
- 16:07Speaker 4: You know, Kelsey has a lot to say all the time,
- 16:09Speaker 4: and that guy's just so so funny. He's always a character.
- 16:12Speaker 4: So we'll see what he has of his sleep. But
- 16:13Speaker 4: you know, formal retire we want to be classy, want
- 16:16Speaker 4: to do everything first class, So student ties for everybody,
- 16:19Speaker 4: and we're just gonna dress clean and enjoy the visit.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Have they given you any prep on what's in store
- 16:24Speaker 1: for the ring ceremony. These Kansas City players and teams
- 16:27Speaker 1: and coaches like you guys are so spoiled that it's like, well,
- 16:30Speaker 1: what's going to be different from the other years?
- 16:32Speaker 4: Just like what is It's been a little bit more
- 16:36Speaker 4: close to the chest this year than last year. Like
- 16:38Speaker 4: last year, we had a committee to talk about things
- 16:41Speaker 4: that we wanted on the ring, and you know, most
- 16:42Speaker 4: of the guys just wanted it to be as big
- 16:44Speaker 4: as possible, as many times as possible. So I think
- 16:47Speaker 4: that you know, they probably just remembered that from last year,
- 16:50Speaker 4: and you know it's going to be cool. We'll see
- 16:52Speaker 4: what they come up with.
- 16:53Speaker 1: You know. One of the reasons I went out of
- 16:56Speaker 1: my way to like specifically ask for you as a
- 17:00Speaker 1: guest is because last Wednesday was May twenty second, and
- 17:05Speaker 1: I'm just fiddling around on my phone, check in Twitter, whatever,
- 17:07Speaker 1: and I see this alert on Apple News. Yes, sir,
- 17:13Speaker 1: Justin Reid is crowned the winner of Blitz Champs three.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Championship season Baby.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Between NFL Stars.
- 17:21Speaker 2: You.
- 17:21Speaker 1: So, I don't think anyone at home listening to this
- 17:24Speaker 1: is necessarily aware of what Blitz Champs three is, But
- 17:27Speaker 1: can you take us through what that is and what
- 17:30Speaker 1: sport you won in?
- 17:32Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so it's blitz.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Champs three is a is an event put on by
- 17:36Speaker 4: Chess dot Com and its speed chess, So it's time chess.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Each person has a has a timer that they have
- 17:42Speaker 4: to make their moves and we played five minute games
- 17:46Speaker 4: and three minute games and it was a It was
- 17:48Speaker 4: a person double elimination style tournament. We had guys like
- 17:53Speaker 4: Larry Fitzgerald, Kyler, Murray Quinn, Nelson, Drew Tranquil who actually
- 17:56Speaker 4: won last year, Chadobe, oh Wuzier, myself, Michael Vick, just
- 18:02Speaker 4: some of the characters already and there playing and it
- 18:04Speaker 4: was double elimination and uh you know, oh MATC. Collins
- 18:07Speaker 4: was another guy, and it was just you know, some
- 18:10Speaker 4: speed chess competition, friendly competition, and it was all in
- 18:12Speaker 4: the name of charity. So we each represented our own
- 18:14Speaker 4: foundations or a foundation of our choice, and uh, you know,
- 18:17Speaker 4: I was just fortunate enough to come out on top.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Who'd you get in the first round? Who was your
- 18:21Speaker 1: first round matchup?
- 18:23Speaker 3: So first round was tough.
- 18:25Speaker 4: I actually had my work cutout for me with ch Adobe, Wuzier,
- 18:29Speaker 4: I am because everything I do I want to do
- 18:31Speaker 4: at one hundred and ten percent.
- 18:32Speaker 3: I want to win everything. So I actually hired a
- 18:35Speaker 3: grandmaster to coach me.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Some Russian comes walking in like who do we?
- 18:40Speaker 4: Yeah, like name is James Canty. I hired him like
- 18:43Speaker 4: six weeks before the competition. He actually taught me how
- 18:47Speaker 4: to scout. You can watch guys games if you know
- 18:50Speaker 4: they're using name. So I scouted Chadobe's games to learn
- 18:54Speaker 4: a little bit about how he played, and we had
- 18:55Speaker 4: a game plan going in.
- 18:58Speaker 1: So with ch Adobe's like opening, he did the same
- 19:01Speaker 1: opening every single time. Is that how that works?
- 19:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 19:04Speaker 4: You know, you see what opening the guys the strongest with,
- 19:07Speaker 4: and you try and if your opening isn't good against that,
- 19:10Speaker 4: you have a plan for it. But if yours works,
- 19:11Speaker 4: you just you stick to your guns and you roll
- 19:13Speaker 4: with it.
- 19:14Speaker 1: All right? So six weeks ago you hire this grand
- 19:16Speaker 1: this grandmaster, does he come to you or you guys
- 19:19Speaker 1: over zoom? What's the like virtue of that picture?
- 19:22Speaker 3: So we did a couple of times, like.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Like when I was playing games and its only he
- 19:27Speaker 4: wasn't allowed to tell me what to do, but after
- 19:29Speaker 4: I made a move, he would tell me you could
- 19:31Speaker 4: have made if you did this movie, it would have
- 19:33Speaker 4: been better, you know what I mean.
- 19:34Speaker 3: So just through that, and then he gave me some
- 19:36Speaker 3: videos to watch.
- 19:37Speaker 4: So, like, I like playing on the Sicilian tom and
- 19:40Speaker 4: all as black, that's just like different opening names. And
- 19:42Speaker 4: I like playing the Scotch Game as white. So he
- 19:44Speaker 4: sent me some videos on watching some some professional players
- 19:48Speaker 4: that play that way, so I can learn a little.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Bit from them.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Okay, So I gotta go back even further. When did
- 19:54Speaker 1: you pick up chess? Was this like a COVID thing?
- 19:56Speaker 1: Or have you been playing your whole life?
- 19:57Speaker 2: Like?
- 19:57Speaker 1: When when did chess?
- 19:59Speaker 3: Like?
- 19:59Speaker 4: Really, like a year or two before COVID, we had
- 20:02Speaker 4: we had a I had a teammate of mine, Philip Games,
- 20:05Speaker 4: that we used to call Grand Mass to Phiel because
- 20:07Speaker 4: he was always in his locker playing online chess. So
- 20:10Speaker 4: he was playing, and you know what I mean, I like,
- 20:12Speaker 4: I like to just interact with my teammates. You know,
- 20:14Speaker 4: whatever they're into, I'll just play along with it, just
- 20:16Speaker 4: because I want to connect to each and every one
- 20:18Speaker 4: of them, you know, built that that friendship in that brotherhood.
- 20:21Speaker 4: So we started playing and he was whooping my tail. Yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 4: he was whooping me. So then me being competitive, I
- 20:26Speaker 4: was like, Okay, I'm gonna go study up and I'm
- 20:28Speaker 4: gonna go try and be competitive. I didn't beat him
- 20:30Speaker 4: for a year, yeah, like maybe two years, but then
- 20:34Speaker 4: just keep practicing and he's a little bit better at it.
- 20:36Speaker 1: So I'd never played golf my whole life, and everyone
- 20:40Speaker 1: would always play golf. And then when I turned forty,
- 20:42Speaker 1: I'm like, you know what, screw it, I want to
- 20:43Speaker 1: learn golf. It sounds kind of the same thing. You're like,
- 20:45Speaker 1: you know what, I'm just gonna be. I'm gonna I'm
- 20:47Speaker 1: gonna dive into chess and you're a competitor. Yeah, and
- 20:50Speaker 1: and you get through a doozy U Chadobi, and then
- 20:53Speaker 1: who's next.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Yeah. So after Chadoby, it was mac Collins.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Okay, not wearing any shoes, never wear shoes, he's always barefoot.
- 21:01Speaker 1: That's his.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Smart cat.
- 21:04Speaker 4: And he was real friendly too, like we alised so
- 21:06Speaker 4: many the same people, especially so NVS actually told him
- 21:11Speaker 4: that he was like, oh, you better watch out for
- 21:13Speaker 4: j Ree because they're both there in Buffalo right now.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Nymbees another buddy of mine.
- 21:17Speaker 4: And then after mccollins, it was Calamary and then I
- 21:20Speaker 4: beat Calamary the first time two games of one, and
- 21:23Speaker 4: then he had to go and play mccollins to get
- 21:26Speaker 4: back into the championship game.
- 21:28Speaker 3: So he played and beat mccollins.
- 21:30Speaker 4: And in that game that he was playing mccollins, I
- 21:33Speaker 4: went back and scouted our game and.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Yes, what moves. Yeah, I looked at what moves could
- 21:38Speaker 3: have been better?
- 21:39Speaker 4: And then like I played the same opening, he played
- 21:42Speaker 4: the same opening, and I was like, oh, okay, I got
- 21:44Speaker 4: I already know what I'm going to do.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Now it's already done. Like does does Spags or Dave Merritt, Like,
- 21:48Speaker 1: do they know like what that you're putting in this
- 21:50Speaker 1: time of scouting and preparation, Like, I'm so impressed by
- 21:53Speaker 1: your preparation and the mental gymnastics of this whole thing.
- 21:56Speaker 4: Failure to preparers prepared in the field man, and you
- 21:58Speaker 4: know what I mean. So I take preparation very seriously.
- 22:01Speaker 4: That's where all my confidence comes from playing football, That's
- 22:03Speaker 4: where it comes from playing chess. But actually put it
- 22:06Speaker 4: up in the team meetings today that they I was like,
- 22:08Speaker 4: the blst chance thing. You know, we're back to back
- 22:11Speaker 4: here in the in the chiefs like.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so don't I don't play chess. My kid
- 22:19Speaker 1: is in elementary school and he's playing it, and he
- 22:21Speaker 1: talks in a language. I don't know. How hard was
- 22:23Speaker 1: it to learn you said the Sicilian and this other
- 22:25Speaker 1: thing like the sketch. How hard was it to learn
- 22:28Speaker 1: these terms? And how long did it take for you
- 22:29Speaker 1: to feel pretty comfortable in those chess circles?
- 22:31Speaker 4: You know, it really just depends on how how much
- 22:34Speaker 4: time you put into it, you know what I mean,
- 22:35Speaker 4: Like if you if you put in five ten minutes
- 22:37Speaker 4: a day, you can really pick up on it pretty quickly.
- 22:41Speaker 4: I loved it so much. I was probably putting in
- 22:43Speaker 4: like one and a half to two hours a day.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Yes to doing puzzles, are playing games. And you know,
- 22:48Speaker 4: if you're putting in that much time, you can really
- 22:50Speaker 4: start picking it up after about you know, maybe a month.
- 22:53Speaker 4: You really start picking it up in about two weeks,
- 22:56Speaker 4: but you right start getting good in about two months
- 23:00Speaker 4: three months, and then from there you just keep getting
- 23:02Speaker 4: better and refining. And you know, by the time you've
- 23:04Speaker 4: been playing for a year or two years, you can
- 23:06Speaker 4: get pretty good.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Yeah, like I during my son is picking it up,
- 23:11Speaker 1: I was like, all right, let's go on chess dot
- 23:12Speaker 1: com and like you could play like Gordon Hayward from
- 23:15Speaker 1: you know, like the NBA, he's he's a he's a
- 23:17Speaker 1: chess player. And I think Larry fitz was like.
- 23:19Speaker 4: On its class computerized bots that they yeah, you can
- 23:23Speaker 4: play there.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Do you have you ever go on there and just
- 23:27Speaker 1: play against random strangers? Is like an anonymous person.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Oh yeah, all the time. That's that's mainly what I do.
- 23:32Speaker 4: So it's fun because whatever skill level you are, it'll
- 23:36Speaker 4: match someone to the same skill level as you, and
- 23:38Speaker 4: you know, as you get better, you'll play better competition,
- 23:40Speaker 4: so you know, it stays fun.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Do you have any idea like how cool this is?
- 23:46Speaker 1: I think, you know, for kids everywhere, they all want
- 23:48Speaker 1: to be NFL players, But like short of that, to
- 23:52Speaker 1: learn that there's a crew of you guys that on
- 23:54Speaker 1: your off time or choosing to play chess, I think
- 23:56Speaker 1: is so inspiring. I think it's so interesting.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it's just it's just fun to be multifaceted.
- 24:01Speaker 3: You know.
- 24:02Speaker 4: I love football, It's what I do. I come to
- 24:04Speaker 4: work with a smile on my face every day because
- 24:05Speaker 4: I have the great job in the world. But besides that,
- 24:09Speaker 4: it's okay to have more than one passion. You know,
- 24:10Speaker 4: you can play more than one sport. You're gonna have
- 24:12Speaker 4: more than one hobby. So it's just things that you
- 24:15Speaker 4: know you like to do, and you know it adds
- 24:17Speaker 4: some personality, some some uniqueness and some character. You know,
- 24:21Speaker 4: it's a it's a fun skill that you know you
- 24:23Speaker 4: never know what it will bring up. And you know,
- 24:25Speaker 4: I was playing it for fun and I was able
- 24:26Speaker 4: to win a thirty thousand dollars check for my charity
- 24:29Speaker 4: because of it. So when you can combine two things,
- 24:31Speaker 4: something that you already love to do and make a
- 24:34Speaker 4: good cause out of it, I mean you just can't
- 24:35Speaker 4: beat that.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Is there anyone on the team today at the meeting
- 24:39Speaker 1: or you know, you and Tranquil are talking about it,
- 24:40Speaker 1: Who's like, hey, guys, like I've never played, Like can
- 24:43Speaker 1: you help me? Can you get me started? Have you
- 24:44Speaker 1: inspired anyone to pick it up since joining the Chiefs?
- 24:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you know some of the young guys. Some of
- 24:49Speaker 4: the young guys play. Joe Joe, Joe Tuny, he plays
- 24:52Speaker 4: a lot too. He already knows how to play. Okay,
- 24:54Speaker 4: we played I bring a chessboard with the pieces on
- 24:57Speaker 4: the training camp every year.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Joseph like, Pa, break it out. I love it.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Yeah, we get some rounds in the locker room in
- 25:04Speaker 3: our downtime. So yeah, that's cool.
- 25:08Speaker 1: What's your charity and where can people learn more about
- 25:11Speaker 1: it and maybe make a j.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Read Indeed, Jay Read Indeed. We focus on three pillars.
- 25:18Speaker 4: The biggest pillar is the tech space and computer science
- 25:22Speaker 4: and try and make computer science cool. And we try
- 25:25Speaker 4: to meet kids where we're at. So, you know, kids
- 25:28Speaker 4: are into sports, learning the music. So we love to
- 25:31Speaker 4: take the concepts of sports and music and try and
- 25:34Speaker 4: you know, hey, this is your issues. This is how
- 25:37Speaker 4: we want every kid to be the superstar. We want
- 25:39Speaker 4: every kid to be the star artist. But in case
- 25:42Speaker 4: that isn't in your cards, you can still follow your
- 25:44Speaker 4: passion and computer science can help you do that. We
- 25:47Speaker 4: try and introduce tools and techniques and skill sets that
- 25:49Speaker 4: will help them and help them find a career field
- 25:52Speaker 4: as they grow up and mature. We have Microsoft as
- 25:55Speaker 4: a partner, so we do a lot of Excel proficiency
- 25:57Speaker 4: and a lot of life skills, some financial literacy and
- 25:59Speaker 4: some budgeting. And you know, you can find out more
- 26:02Speaker 4: information at my website. Jareadindeed dot com or any of
- 26:06Speaker 4: our social handles, you know, Twitter, Instagram at jay Reed Indeed.
- 26:10Speaker 3: So we're excited about that.
- 26:12Speaker 4: We have two events coming up to a charity softball
- 26:14Speaker 4: game that's going to be offense versus defense, and trying
- 26:18Speaker 4: to recruit some help on the defensive side of the
- 26:19Speaker 4: ball because offense has some former baseball players, so they kind.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Of be up on us last year. I'm not gonna
- 26:25Speaker 3: let that happen again.
- 26:25Speaker 1: No, No, when is that golf tournament.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Coming up to?
- 26:29Speaker 1: When's a softball game.
- 26:31Speaker 3: That is next Thursday, June sixth Okay?
- 26:34Speaker 1: And is it mostly Chiefs players? Are all guys around
- 26:37Speaker 1: the league.
- 26:38Speaker 4: Yeah, so it's Chiefs players with a couple of celebrity
- 26:40Speaker 4: guests offense versus defense format, and we have some celebrity
- 26:44Speaker 4: guests that go to come in and play too.
- 26:45Speaker 1: All right, and do you like get your defensive back team?
- 26:48Speaker 1: I guess Trent McDuffie going to be playing third base. Like,
- 26:50Speaker 1: what do we have in store? Let me hear the
- 26:52Speaker 1: scouting report.
- 26:53Speaker 4: Yeah, we're all going to the batting CAGs. We gotta
- 26:55Speaker 4: get right. Yeah, we need a star clift. You know,
- 27:00Speaker 4: Nick Bolton has some baseball background. I'm gonna need to
- 27:03Speaker 4: Nick to be my star player, man.
- 27:04Speaker 1: I mean them at shortstop. Let's say, miss, let's go, hey.
- 27:08Speaker 4: You're you're you're going third, bro, We need we need
- 27:11Speaker 4: to just get on the pace you're betting third, go ahead,
- 27:13Speaker 4: get us three runs real quick.
- 27:15Speaker 1: I love this. And then the golf tournament is shortly thereafter.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Yeah, golf tournament is June seventeen, also here in Kansas City.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I love it. Man, that's great. Uh. I think it's
- 27:24Speaker 1: really cool you guys did this. I wish it was more,
- 27:27Speaker 1: you know, widely known or publicized, because I think it's
- 27:30Speaker 1: so cool to see that there's these NFL guys who
- 27:33Speaker 1: do things other than play football. But also so are
- 27:37Speaker 1: applying it to such an intellectual game. Have you like,
- 27:40Speaker 1: have you watched Searching for Bobby Fisher or did you
- 27:42Speaker 1: see the Queen's Gambit? Like, are you into like chess
- 27:45Speaker 1: pop culture wise or no?
- 27:46Speaker 4: Yeah, you know the Queen's Gambit is actually what influenced
- 27:49Speaker 4: me to play the Sicilian. Hell yeah, So after watching that,
- 27:52Speaker 4: she played the Sicilian in one move and I was like, okay,
- 27:55Speaker 4: that was my first time hearing that term. So I
- 27:56Speaker 4: just looked it up and I started playing it, and
- 27:59Speaker 4: then I just kept playing it ever since.
- 28:02Speaker 1: There's there's like this. In the nineties, it was deep Blue,
- 28:07Speaker 1: I think it was what it was called. It was
- 28:08Speaker 1: like a computer. And then there was Casparov, the Man,
- 28:11Speaker 1: and they would play and it was like the biggest deal.
- 28:14Speaker 1: It was like the super Bowl when I was a kid.
- 28:15Speaker 1: And I'm like, I don't even know if like people
- 28:18Speaker 1: know about that, And I love that. I love that
- 28:21Speaker 1: you're embracing it. Bill Walton just passed away, and I
- 28:25Speaker 1: did a little bit of him in the monologue. But
- 28:26Speaker 1: there was a story that Danny Ainge told on one
- 28:28Speaker 1: of the Barstool podcasts that he would bring his chessboard
- 28:32Speaker 1: in the eighties on the plane and he would play
- 28:34Speaker 1: like an electronic chess. Like this is like there's a
- 28:36Speaker 1: long history of athletes loving chess, which I think is
- 28:39Speaker 1: so cool.
- 28:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Yeah, It's so stimulated and it's a fun game to play.
- 28:43Speaker 4: You can make it quick, you can make it slow.
- 28:45Speaker 4: What I love about it is just kind of the same,
- 28:47Speaker 4: but it's always different, which is the same to football.
- 28:50Speaker 4: You know, like plays are for the most part, a
- 28:53Speaker 4: lot of them are the same, but it's always just
- 28:55Speaker 4: slightly different. And it's amazing how that just changed the
- 28:58Speaker 4: dynamics of everything else.
- 29:00Speaker 1: So you know, that's it's just fascinating Kyler. You see
- 29:04Speaker 1: him pre game. If you guys play them like, is
- 29:06Speaker 1: there like what's up? Like are you shit talking? Or
- 29:08Speaker 1: is it like respect? Like all right, like guys like
- 29:10Speaker 1: it's a fellow chess player. But I did beat you.
- 29:14Speaker 3: You know, it's all it's all love. It's all. It's
- 29:17Speaker 3: all in love and spirit, man.
- 29:18Speaker 4: So we're competitive on the chessboard, we're competitive on the field.
- 29:23Speaker 4: You know, defensive guys on the chess board tend to
- 29:25Speaker 4: be a little bit more aggressive. I think that's just
- 29:27Speaker 4: in our personalities. So you know, we just get an
- 29:31Speaker 4: opportunity to play good guys in great talent, man. And
- 29:34Speaker 4: I just love the competition.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Man. I so appreciate you coming on. It was awesome
- 29:39Speaker 1: talking to you. And I said it throughout this whole
- 29:41Speaker 1: playoff rounting even beforehand, that it's defensive backfield. And I
- 29:46Speaker 1: know you're losing Snead and that's a big loss, but
- 29:48Speaker 1: I have no doubt you guys will find a way
- 29:49Speaker 1: to keep it going. But you are the vocal leader,
- 29:52Speaker 1: and you were the dude, and it is so cool
- 29:54Speaker 1: that you have an interest outside of football like chess
- 29:56Speaker 1: and are spreading the good will and spreading the good
- 29:59Speaker 1: word on how great an intellectual game it can be
- 30:01Speaker 1: and how it's really no different than football. It's preparation
- 30:05Speaker 1: and to attack when the time is right.
- 30:09Speaker 4: Exactly exactly. Couldn't have said it better, you know. So
- 30:11Speaker 4: excited for sneed, excited for us. It's going to be
- 30:15Speaker 4: a hell of a season. We're starting fast to Baltimore,
- 30:17Speaker 4: so it's gonna be fun.
- 30:19Speaker 1: How about that When you got that schedule and you
- 30:21Speaker 1: see Baltimore Week one, it's like, really, okay.
- 30:23Speaker 4: I was really hoping that somebody else will play them
- 30:26Speaker 4: first so I can see on the whole quarterback option,
- 30:29Speaker 4: you know, with Derek Henry.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And the marchin totally and they're not going to show it.
- 30:32Speaker 4: You know, We're up for the challenge and we're just
- 30:36Speaker 4: gonna have to buckle out chinch straps and we know
- 30:37Speaker 4: it's going to be a hard nosed, blue collar game,
- 30:40Speaker 4: so we're just gonna be prepared for it.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, you are the man. We so appreciate it.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Go to get to meetings Uh, Justin Reid, congratulations being
- 30:48Speaker 1: the blitz champion three champion of the NFL.
- 30:51Speaker 4: Appreciate you, my guy. Aaron.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I gotta say I love Justin Reid. Love that entire interview.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I love that he is a chess champion and it's
- 31:07Speaker 1: talking about the Sicilian.
- 31:09Speaker 2: I love hearing him talk about playing against Kyler and
- 31:13Speaker 2: then scouting Kyler's moves from the previous game for his
- 31:17Speaker 2: next game.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Uh oh, it was great. Yeah, totally cool. And I
- 31:21Speaker 1: didn't know much about the the the alternative community of
- 31:25Speaker 1: chess players at the NFL. But then he starts rattling
- 31:27Speaker 1: off names like Joe Tuney's into it. Some of the
- 31:29Speaker 1: young guys are into it. You gotta think it's such
- 31:32Speaker 1: a physical sport football and you're you know, so so
- 31:37Speaker 1: like you know, in the zone for those eighteen weeks,
- 31:39Speaker 1: Like what a wonderful release it might be to get
- 31:42Speaker 1: into chess, and gosh, Justin's the best in the sport,
- 31:44Speaker 1: which I love.
- 31:46Speaker 2: It also is a cool like we've you know, there
- 31:49Speaker 2: are stories of Miles Garrett would play Dungeons and Dragons
- 31:53Speaker 2: with some guys and like here, yeah.
- 31:55Speaker 1: These packers, oh lined itd settlers of Catan. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:01Speaker 2: I love hearing all those kind of stories about like
- 32:03Speaker 2: other things that they're doing together, especially in the locker
- 32:06Speaker 2: room where where you know they might have a bunch
- 32:07Speaker 2: of downtime. And if they can be even if they're
- 32:10Speaker 2: playing on their phone playing chess, that's great.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Can Justin Reid be the next great NFL broadcaster? I
- 32:16Speaker 1: thought his energy was awesome. Yeah.
- 32:19Speaker 2: He If he can talk about football the way he
- 32:22Speaker 2: talks about chess, which I'm sure he can, he would
- 32:25Speaker 2: be great. Get him to do Netflix days.
- 32:30Speaker 1: They're actually playing the approach all right, all right, let's
- 32:33Speaker 1: wrap it here. Great podcast episode. Love being back on
- 32:37Speaker 1: the mic with you. Some housekeeping stuff. We're gonna keep
- 32:41Speaker 1: on churning out episodes as they come about. I didn't
- 32:45Speaker 1: have a GM or coach this week because they were
- 32:48Speaker 1: in camp. A lot of these guys are like, they're like,
- 32:50Speaker 1: it's hard to get the schedule down when they're actually working.
- 32:52Speaker 1: So we're gonna bang out a bunch in the next
- 32:54Speaker 1: couple of weeks. But the Rangers are still alive. That's
- 32:57Speaker 1: the thing here. I've been finding myself without a four
- 33:00Speaker 1: thirty am wake up watching every NBA playoff game and
- 33:04Speaker 1: loving it, and I'm are you or a Luca guy?
- 33:11Speaker 1: That could be both, Like Luca's amazing the angles he
- 33:15Speaker 1: shoots the ball at with these like leaning and tilting,
- 33:18Speaker 1: but he does complain to the refs quite a bit,
- 33:21Speaker 1: which is getting on my nerves. But Ant's awesome, I thought,
- 33:25Speaker 1: I mean, we're recording this on Wednesday. Karl Anthony Towns,
- 33:28Speaker 1: who everyone on and everyone beats up on. I thought
- 33:30Speaker 1: he had two huge threes to keep that series alive.
- 33:34Speaker 1: I like watching him, so I don't think it's a
- 33:37Speaker 1: done deal. I think everyone's like, all right, well they'll
- 33:40Speaker 1: go and then Dallas will take care of business now.
- 33:42Speaker 1: And then the Pacers they led it in the final
- 33:44Speaker 1: minutes three different times and got swept. That was horrible.
- 33:48Speaker 1: But the Rangers Panthers the big deal here in New York.
- 33:50Speaker 1: And then, like I said, I'm going to be in
- 33:52Speaker 1: Kansas City for the big slick charity auction, slash function,
- 33:58Speaker 1: slash hospital visits, slash celebrity softball, slash presentation, and slash
- 34:04Speaker 1: five K. There's a million things going on, but I'll
- 34:06Speaker 1: have stories next week. It'll be are you running the
- 34:09Speaker 1: five K? Two?
- 34:09Speaker 3: Oh?
- 34:10Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 34:10Speaker 4: Bey? Nice?
- 34:11Speaker 3: All right?
- 34:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm running that five k dude, I'm in I'm
- 34:14Speaker 1: in tip top physical shape right now. I've been I've
- 34:17Speaker 1: been getting ready for this weekend. But there's gonna be
- 34:20Speaker 1: a great turnout. And last year we raised like three
- 34:23Speaker 1: million dollars, so hoping to top that. Uh, Kansas City
- 34:26Speaker 1: has been really good to me and I hopefully can
- 34:28Speaker 1: add just a little bit to the weekend and maybe
- 34:31Speaker 1: help raise some funds there. So that's the big Slick
- 34:34Speaker 1: charity event. Go find that out big Slick dot org. Uh,
- 34:38Speaker 1: that's it. It's all. I got aaron, great hearing from you,
- 34:41Speaker 1: great scene. Yes, sorry I called you a twenty year old.
- 34:43Speaker 1: That was a compliment and a lot of a lot
- 34:45Speaker 1: of pun I think a young spirit make it justin
- 34:48Speaker 1: read our guests. Fantastic. Jason English the man. Let's get
- 34:51Speaker 1: some of these clips online. Maybe I'll get a little
- 34:54Speaker 1: clip of him talking chess, talking to Sicilian. I love that.
- 34:58Speaker 1: What was the other one, the Scotch.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Yeah, the Scotch is a different opening. So scotches if
- 35:03Speaker 2: you're white, Sicilian is black.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I think got it. Okay, leave it at that. Yeah,
- 35:10Speaker 1: I don't know what you're even referring to their airing.
- 35:12Speaker 2: The color like if You're, if you're the white or
- 35:14Speaker 2: the black.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Pieces On that note, see you guys next week. The
