- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. Alright, welcome back
- 0:07Speaker 1: to Real Talk with Mike D. I am the one,
- 0:09Speaker 1: the only, and the original Mike D. It is 5.30
- 0:15Speaker 1: in the morning on a Monday. And you're asking yourself, Mike,
- 0:21Speaker 1: why in the hell are you awake at 5.30 in
- 0:24Speaker 1: the morning on a Monday? Well, ladies and gentlemen, I
- 0:29Speaker 1: was awake earlier than this. That is part of my life.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I do not sleep. But the reality is it's Monday
- 0:39Speaker 1: and it's back to work. Yes, the weekend is officially over.
- 0:46Speaker 1: That beautiful little thing called Saturday and Sunday has officially disappeared.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Let me ask you a question. Why is it that
- 0:56Speaker 1: Friday afternoon feels like freedom, but Sunday night feels like
- 0:59Speaker 1: a prison sentence? Friday afternoon, you're sitting there thinking, man,
- 1:05Speaker 1: I can't wait for this weekend. You've got plans. You've
- 1:09Speaker 1: got things you want to do. Maybe you want to
- 1:10Speaker 1: sleep in or maybe you just want to relax. Maybe
- 1:14Speaker 1: you want to go somewhere. Maybe you just want to
- 1:15Speaker 1: sit on the couch, watch TV, eat something good and
- 1:19Speaker 1: do absolutely nothing. And then Saturday comes. You wake up
- 1:25Speaker 1: and think, yep, this is what life is supposed to
- 1:28Speaker 1: be like. No alarm, no rushing around. No getting dressed
- 1:32Speaker 1: for work, no traffic, no boss, and no emails. No
- 1:37Speaker 1: people asking you to do things before you've even had
- 1:40Speaker 1: your coffee. That should be illegal. And then Sunday shows up.
- 1:48Speaker 1: And Sunday morning is still pretty good. You're thinking, I
- 1:52Speaker 1: still got all day. Then Sunday afternoon hits, and you
- 1:56Speaker 1: suddenly realize, tomorrow is Monday afternoon. Oh my God, it's
- 2:01Speaker 1: back to work. And just like that, the weekend starts
- 2:05Speaker 1: feeling like it's running away from you. I swear the
- 2:10Speaker 1: weekend should be at least four days long. Who decided
- 2:14Speaker 1: two days was enough? Who came up with that? Because
- 2:17Speaker 1: I'd like to have a conversation with that person. Saturday
- 2:20Speaker 1: and Sunday, that's not a weekend. That's a sample. That's
- 2:24Speaker 1: a free trial. That's an appetizer. By the time you
- 2:28Speaker 1: get comfortable, It's already over. And then Monday morning. Monday
- 2:36Speaker 1: morning doesn't care about your feelings. The alarm clock goes
- 2:39Speaker 1: off and you're already lying there thinking, should I call
- 2:43Speaker 1: off sick? Then you remember you actually need the paycheck. So, no.
- 2:51Speaker 1: You get up and you go to work. And there's
- 2:55Speaker 1: something about the alarm on Monday morning. During the week,
- 2:58Speaker 1: you can sleep like a rock. But Monday morning, suddenly
- 3:01Speaker 1: that alarm sounds like somebody is breaking into your house.
- 3:04Speaker 1: You're like, who the hell is that? It's the alarm.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It's just reminding you that your weekend is officially over.
- 3:18Speaker 1: You hit snooze, maybe for five minutes. Then another five.
- 3:25Speaker 1: then another five, and eventually you're doing mathematical calculations in
- 3:28Speaker 1: your head. Okay. If I get out of bed right now,
- 3:34Speaker 1: if I skip breakfast, if I shower in three minutes,
- 3:36Speaker 1: get dressed in two minutes, and suddenly you're trying to
- 3:40Speaker 1: figure out if you can get ready for work in
- 3:42Speaker 1: 11 minutes. We've all done it. And then it comes
- 3:49Speaker 1: to the commute. Traffic. people driving way too slow, people
- 3:55Speaker 1: driving way too fast, somebody cutting you off, somebody riding
- 4:00Speaker 1: your bumper, and you're sitting there thinking, yep, this is
- 4:04Speaker 1: exactly how I wanted to spend my Monday morning. And
- 4:08Speaker 1: then you finally get to work. You walk through the
- 4:12Speaker 1: door and somebody says, good morning. And you're thinking, is it?
- 4:19Speaker 1: Is it really? Because I'm not sure we're having the
- 4:23Speaker 1: same morning. But here's one thing. As much as we
- 4:28Speaker 1: complain about Monday, we need to remember something. Work is
- 4:33Speaker 1: part of life. And for a lot of us, work
- 4:36Speaker 1: isn't just about making money. It's about responsibility. It's about providing.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It's about taking care of ourselves and the people we love.
- 4:44Speaker 1: It's about having something that gives us purpose. And yeah.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Sometimes work sucks. Let's be honest. Sometimes you don't want
- 4:54Speaker 1: to be there. Sometimes you're tired. Sometimes you're stressed. Sometimes
- 4:58Speaker 1: you're looking at the clock at 9.30 in the morning
- 5:00Speaker 1: wondering how in the hell is it lunchtime here yet?
- 5:05Speaker 1: You look again and it's 9.45. Ten minutes has passed.
- 5:10Speaker 1: You look again and it's 9.46. You've got to be
- 5:14Speaker 1: freaking kidding me. But that's life. There are going to
- 5:20Speaker 1: be days when we don't feel motivated. There are going
- 5:22Speaker 1: to be days when we don't want to get out
- 5:24Speaker 1: of bed. And there is definitely going to be days
- 5:29Speaker 1: when we'd rather be somewhere else. But sometimes you just
- 5:33Speaker 1: have to get up and do it anyway. That is
- 5:36Speaker 1: being an adult, ladies and gentlemen. That is responsibility and
- 5:39Speaker 1: that is life. Maybe we should look at Monday a
- 5:44Speaker 1: little bit differently. Instead of Oh God, the weekend is over.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Maybe we can say, okay, new week, fresh start. Because
- 5:56Speaker 1: that's really what Monday is, a reset. Whatever happened last week,
- 6:00Speaker 1: it's done. Maybe you had a rough week. Maybe you
- 6:04Speaker 1: made some mistakes. Maybe things didn't go the way you wanted.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Maybe you were stressed out. Maybe you were exhausted. Maybe
- 6:10Speaker 1: you got another shot, another week, another opportunity, another chance
- 6:16Speaker 1: to get things done. And I'm trying to remind myself
- 6:22Speaker 1: of that, especially after a weekend, because weekends are great.
- 6:27Speaker 1: But sometimes we spend so much time thinking about how
- 6:30Speaker 1: much we hate Monday that we forget to appreciate what
- 6:33Speaker 1: Monday can represent. It's another beginning. And for me, that
- 6:38Speaker 1: means back on my diet. Yes, I got to get
- 6:41Speaker 1: back on my diet. I got to lose weight. I
- 6:43Speaker 1: got to get back to getting down to my normal weight.
- 6:51Speaker 1: It's another chance to make progress. Another chance to accomplish something.
- 6:56Speaker 1: And maybe, just maybe, you can make this week better
- 7:01Speaker 1: than the last one. Now, does that mean I'm going
- 7:06Speaker 1: to suddenly love Monday? Absolutely not. Let's not get crazy.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I'm still going to complain. I'm still going to want
- 7:17Speaker 1: more sleep. I'm still going to wish the weekend was longer.
- 7:21Speaker 1: And I'm still going to look at the clock waiting
- 7:23Speaker 1: for Friday. Because let's be honest, Friday has different energy.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Friday morning, you're already mentally halfway out of the door.
- 7:32Speaker 1: You start thinking about the weekend. What's everybody doing? Where
- 7:36Speaker 1: are we going? What am I eating? Can I sleep late?
- 7:41Speaker 1: And suddenly you feel alive again. But until Friday gets here,
- 7:47Speaker 1: you got to work. So here's my challenge for you
- 7:51Speaker 1: all this Monday. Don't spend the entire day wishing it
- 7:55Speaker 1: was Friday. Try to actually be where you are. Get
- 7:59Speaker 1: your coffee. Take a breath. Do your job. And do
- 8:05Speaker 1: your job the best of your ability. Talk to somebody.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Laugh if you can. Laughter is the best medicine. Get
- 8:14Speaker 1: through those difficult moments and remember the day will end.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Monday will end. Tuesday will end, Wednesday will come, Thursday
- 8:23Speaker 1: will come, and eventually Friday will show up. And when
- 8:27Speaker 1: it does, you can celebrate making it through another week.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And if you're listening to me on your way to
- 8:36Speaker 1: work this morning, I want you to know you're not alone.
- 8:40Speaker 1: There's probably somebody sitting in traffic right now thinking the
- 8:43Speaker 1: exact same thing you're thinking. Why am I awake? There's
- 8:51Speaker 1: probably somebody standing in the break room staring at their
- 8:53Speaker 1: coffee like it's going to solve all their problems. And
- 8:59Speaker 1: there's probably somebody at work counting down the hours until
- 9:01Speaker 1: they can go home. We've all been there. So take
- 9:06Speaker 1: it one day at a time. Take it one hour
- 9:09Speaker 1: at a time. You don't have to think about the
- 9:12Speaker 1: entire week. Just get through today. Do what you need
- 9:16Speaker 1: to do. Go home, relax, eat dinner, spend time with
- 9:20Speaker 1: somebody you love, watch your favorite show, take a shower,
- 9:25Speaker 1: put your feet up, get some rest, because tomorrow we
- 9:29Speaker 1: all do it again. Well, ladies and gentlemen, that is
- 9:34Speaker 1: going to do it for this Monday morning. I'm going
- 9:38Speaker 1: to go have my second cup of coffee and try
- 9:40Speaker 1: to wake up. I hope you all have a fantastic day.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Go grab your coffee, grab your tea, or whatever your
- 9:47Speaker 1: beverage is in the morning. Wake up and get to work.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I appreciate y'all being here. I appreciate y'all listening. And
- 9:59Speaker 1: until the next episode, peace.
