- 0:50www.worldwidesportsradio.com. On his podcast Mind Your Mind
- 0:55the Game, LeBron James took shots at ESPN insider Brian
- 0:59Winhorst, who said NBA fans want less good basketball analysts
- 1:04and more league drama. LeBron and Steve Nash, who does
- 1:09the show with him, first backed at I'm Sorry, fired back at
- 1:13Windhorst, saying it's ridiculous to think basketball
- 1:17fans don't want to hear two NBA legends talk about the XS and OS
- 1:22of the game. LeBron also mentions how
- 1:24Windhorst was riding his coattails for years to find good
- 1:30content to report on or so he shouldn't be complaining.
- 1:34Wynhorst responded by saying that LeBron should be more
- 1:40focused on how he can make the Lakers roster better after their
- 1:44first round playoff exit against the Timberwolves.
- 1:48Nash also took shots at Wynhorst, saying it sucks nobody
- 1:52listens to a podcast about two guys who know nothing about
- 1:57basketball. Wynhorst has been taking shots
- 2:02at LeBron on several occasions the last few months and also
- 2:06attacked him when LeBron was going after Stephen A Smith over
- 2:11the comments about his son. Well, Brian Windhorst, I don't
- 2:15know him personally. I read his stuff here and there.
- 2:19This is a guy that likes to stir up stuff.
- 2:21And I, I like this you you like when you see an analyst come at
- 2:25a player, but you come at the most famous player in all of
- 2:30basketball. The guy that really stands out,
- 2:32owns the world. He owns the NBA, as we call it
- 2:36the LJA. And you go after him just like
- 2:39Stephen A Smith. Now, Stephen A Smith is a big
- 2:42name. So he can't end Stephen A
- 2:45Smith's career because it are, you know, Stephen A Smith just
- 2:47got a $20 million a year contract from ESPN.
- 2:51So his career is set in stone. But Brian Windhorst, his stone
- 2:57might be out with the NBA because here's the facts right
- 3:01now. LeBron James has his own
- 3:03podcast. And what LeBron James says
- 3:06usually means it has some kind of truth in the NBA affairs.
- 3:12OK, so if LeBron James says it, a lot of players would back him
- 3:15up. Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, they
- 3:17all have a love fest for LeBron James.
- 3:19He is the leader the the, the man when it comes to the NBA.
- 3:24But here's the thing, when Steve Nash, who's a quiet guy, very
- 3:28respected, not just by NBA players, but even analysts, when
- 3:32he's coming out winghorst and saying these things, there might
- 3:35be some truth to it. Now, I I don't again, I don't
- 3:40know Brian Winghorst, but I I do know this.
- 3:44When an analyst comes out of player, you got to make sure
- 3:46that you have facts, you got to make sure that there has to be
- 3:51factual information that you're going to put out there because
- 3:54if you don't, the player is going to eat you up alive.
- 3:57Stephen A Smith, he stood there and took it from LeBron James.
- 4:01He took it and he went out of LeBron James.
- 4:03As a matter of fact, LeBron James are butt buddies.
- 4:06So is Kevin Durant. What did Stephen A Smith do
- 4:08after LeBron? He went after Kevin Durant.
- 4:11These are the guys that looked up to Stephen A Smith for years.
- 4:14I've been on his show for years on first take and respect him
- 4:17very, very much. When you look at the NBA, it is
- 4:22a players league. We, we went over this and I,
- 4:25I'll say it again, the NBA players run the league.
- 4:28LeBron James has run the NBA since Michael Jordan and Kobe
- 4:32Bryant retired. This guy has been everything to
- 4:35the NBA. He's brought in endorsements
- 4:37from companies that you wouldn't even expect internationally and
- 4:41Americanly. I, I look at right now what
- 4:45what's going on here. It doesn't seem like Windhorst
- 4:49has a battle to win here. I don't think he's going to win
- 4:52this battle with LeBron James and LeBron James, he has had his
- 4:56hands dipped in everything from pizzerias to production from,
- 5:01you know, LA all over the place. Why do you think LeBron James
- 5:04went to the Lakers? Do you think he went to the
- 5:07Lakers? Because you know what?
- 5:09It's the Lakers. He couldn't give a crap about
- 5:12the Lakers organization. He went there because he wanted
- 5:15his sons to go to one of the best high schools in the country
- 5:19when it comes to basketball. And build a.
- 5:21Brand and to build his brand, not only commercially,
- 5:25internationally and when you're in LA or New York, which he
- 5:28didn't want to go to New York, as we all know, he wanted to go
- 5:31to an organization that was going to help him set himself up
- 5:35to go where he wanted to go after basketball.
- 5:38And when he went to the Lakers, how many years did he have left
- 5:41in the NBA? Probably 6.
- 5:44And what is he going into his this coming year?
- 5:47I think it's his sixth or seventh season as a Laker.
- 5:51His career is practically over and now he's sitting there with
- 5:55his podcast. And by the way, who was who was
- 5:57the the other guy on his podcast before it was Steve Nash.
- 6:01It's the Lakers coach. So JJ Reddick, he was part of
- 6:06that that mind. What's the show called?
- 6:08I'm sorry, mind the game, mind the game, mind the game.
- 6:12So you're seeing all these, these guys, including, you know,
- 6:17I, I just saw something, I forget who was doing it.
- 6:20Who's the other guy that's doing?
- 6:22Everybody's got a podcast now. No, there's a podcast on.
- 6:28I can't believe it's pretty good.
- 6:29No, it's a Laker podcast. I've been watching it a lot and
- 6:32I can't, I can't, it'll pop into my mind.
- 6:34But he gets a lot of Laker players on the show.
- 6:37And LeBron James was on the Lakers.
- 6:39He was on the show recently and he was going, he was attacking
- 6:44so many different analysts and former players that have been
- 6:48opening their mouth. And I got to give a shout out to
- 6:51a guy that's been on this show, Tim Hardaway.
- 6:53Tim Hardaway doesn't shy away from some of these young NBA
- 6:57players and stars when they come out and they speak publicly
- 7:00about the league and how they think they could have fit in the
- 7:0490s type of basketball. And Tim, Tim Hardaway actually
- 7:08said on our show that Anthony Edwards would have never lasted
- 7:11in the game in the 90s. And either, he said LeBron James
- 7:15is built for 90s basketball, but he said LeBron James would be
- 7:19the only one that would have been built to play 90s
- 7:22basketball in this day of game, this day of age when it comes to
- 7:27the NBA. The first time he was on the
- 7:28show, he ripped John Moran and said the same thing.
- 7:30Yeah. He he, he's pretty
- 7:31straightforward and a lot of these ex NBA players, Patrick
- 7:34Ewing's been on a couple of podcasts.
- 7:36Charles Oakley was just on a podcast and he said something
- 7:39Charles Oakley will never throw LeBron James under the bus or
- 7:42Kobe Bryant. And I tried to get Charles
- 7:44Oakley to speak up about the NBA these days, but Charles Oakley
- 7:48kind of took a step back and he works with a a lot of, you know,
- 7:52NBA players right now in the game because he's a cook and he
- 7:54works with a lot of different organizations that work through
- 7:57the NBA. So he's not going to throw him
- 7:58under the bus. But here's a guy that you
- 8:00definitely got to listen to that loves to go on podcasts and
- 8:03throw the NBA players more than anything as the same guy that
- 8:07has been in the game in the time that Kobe Bryant was playing and
- 8:11Paul Pierce so. And all this Errol, why do?
- 8:13You Kendrick Perkins, Why do? You think the guys have gotten
- 8:16more softer now than it was? Back Well, I don't think it's
- 8:19softer. I think the NBA has become more
- 8:22fulfilling in the offensive side of the ball, just like, just
- 8:26like the NFL. If you look at the NFL, you look
- 8:29at the 90s, you could pull on wide receivers and you could do
- 8:32all these things on it, You know, in the open field as a
- 8:35defensive player. Now if you put your hands on a
- 8:36wide receiver and even lay a pinky on them within 5 yards,
- 8:40it's a penalty and these guys are getting all the calls.
- 8:43Same thing with the NBA. LeBron James puts his hands up,
- 8:46Carl Anthony Towns flops. You're going, you're going to
- 8:48the line for 2. The NB as become a bitch sport.
- 8:51It's become a play your sport. And now you have Brian
- 8:54Windhorst, who has some takes that I would agree with him.
- 8:58But when you're going after the most popular player right now in
- 9:01the NBA, and then that player is going to go and take shots at
- 9:05you and put you on the back burner and say, you know what?
- 9:09This guy shouldn't even be speaking.
- 9:11This guy shouldn't even be an analyst.
- 9:13An analyst shouldn't even have a podcast because nobody's
- 9:15listening to him. That tells you that LeBron James
- 9:19is pretty much sent you to your own graves 6 feet under.
- 9:24And Brian Windhorst, who by the way, I, if I'm not mistaken, he
- 9:28he walked away from ESPN, if I'm not mistaken.
- 9:30No, he's still there. Oh, he's still with ESPN?
- 9:31But who was the one that stepped down from ESPN recently?
- 9:34Woh woh, woh, Shenowski. Why do you think Wohenowski
- 9:38walked away from the NBA? Why do you think he?
- 9:41That job was so. Stressful.
- 9:42Why do you think he walked away from the NBA?
- 9:46He walked away from the NBA for specific reasons.
- 9:49He didn't want to deal with this anymore.
- 9:51He didn't want to deal with the players, he didn't want to deal
- 9:53with the executives, and he didn't want to deal with the
- 9:55situations outside of the game of basketball, which he was
- 9:59dealing with. That's why Wozonowski walked
- 10:01away from the NBA. Why would you walk away from a
- 10:04league that you were the face of the analysts you were you ever
- 10:08just like Schefner? Schefter gets all the
- 10:10information before everybody else does.
- 10:12Wozonowski was that guy. Now they have this young pretty
- 10:15boy, Shams, shams. I don't know.
- 10:18That was his understudy. Yeah, he worked with him for
- 10:20like 10 years. But that's what I'm saying.
- 10:22Wozonowski walked away for one reason and one reason for
- 10:27everything that you're hearing right now with LeBron James.
- 10:29He didn't like that the players were running the league.
- 10:31He didn't like about the players throwing the analysts under the
- 10:35bus. If they said anything wrong or
- 10:37put a player in their place, they will get attacked all over
- 10:41social media. And he didn't want to deal with
- 10:43it anymore. He didn't want his name being
- 10:44rubbed into the ground. And so he what do you need to
- 10:46do? He did the right thing.
- 10:47He stepped away from it before it got worse.
- 10:50And I'm going to tell you this, Brian Winworth is never going to
- 10:52get a chance to do that because what's going to happen is LeBron
- 10:54James is going to bury him and he's never going to get out of
- 10:57it. He's going to, he's going to be
- 10:58buried alive. And he's, no, there's no way
- 11:01he's going to be able to dig his way out of this.
- 11:03Yeah, it's interesting because Brian Windhorse has kind of
- 11:05served as that insider that also likes to create his own drama
- 11:08himself too. Like, I don't think Walsh or
- 11:10even Shamsarani was really doing it that way to the same extent.
- 11:13And even like some of the insiders and other sports too,
- 11:15you don't really see that level of a personality the way
- 11:18Windhorse does. Like, to be controversial, There
- 11:20was a whole feud with the Warriors with Steph Curry and
- 11:23and Steve Kerr throughout the year too.
- 11:25And Brian Windhor is obviously instigating more with LeBron
- 11:27since he's feuded with Stephen A Smith because he has to protect
- 11:30his colleague, apparently. And that's the I guess that's
- 11:32the price you're going to go for going after these NBA players.
- 11:34And you were right about whoa too.
- 11:35Like, I think there was a what was it when Wemby got drafted?
- 11:39Like Woes tweeted, this is the the best draft type we've ever
- 11:42seen from a prospect too. And I think LeBron took offense
- 11:44to that too at the time. Like there was there's just
- 11:47certain things that rubbed him the wrong way with that.
- 11:48And now LeBron is obviously going to do that kind of thing
- 11:51with Brian Windhorst, who he knows is younger, hasn't been in
- 11:53the league as a while, whereas Woes is one of the most
- 11:56respected guys in the league because he knows he could create
- 11:58that controversy. And that's the state we're at
- 12:00right now with that. And obviously that's the state
- 12:01that is in, with Stephen A Smith taking it personally.
- 12:03But Stephen A Smith? Stephen A Smith with all this
- 12:06back 4th banter on his show, Stephen A Smith is the biggest
- 12:10analyst when it comes to basketball.
- 12:12So Stephen A Smith could say whatever he wants.
- 12:14He can fuel with it whoever he wants.
- 12:16He's under contract and there's no way ESPN is going to part
- 12:19ways with him because he brings in the people.
- 12:22Brian Windhorst, He's a fat ass. Nobody gives a gives a crap.
- 12:26I. Disagree, he's like one of their
- 12:28top guys. They don't give a get up and
- 12:30like OK, show you're going to see him lose his job for like
- 12:33you're going to see him lose his job.
- 12:34You're going to see him lose. His job, LeBron doesn't have
- 12:36anything to do with him. He's going to be out of the
- 12:38league in a year. It's his last year and that
- 12:40guy's going to have a career for 25 more.
- 12:42Years LeBron James has mined the game.
- 12:44OK, he's he's going to be in. He's going to be in the press.
- 12:48Fighting right, because he said that nobody wants to listen to
- 12:51an exes and no podcast and I would argue he's right.
- 12:55I would say that there's a very small subset of people that want
- 12:59to listen to an X and those podcast.
- 13:01I personally listen to certain X and those podcasts for football
- 13:05because I'm a football coach and that's what I listen to.
- 13:09There are basketball coaches and basketball like super Duper fans
- 13:13that played and actually understand or really want to
- 13:16learn the game that and listen to those.
- 13:18Guys, it's LeBron James. I I want to hear whatever LeBron
- 13:22James says and Steve Nish, he. Didn't say anything that was
- 13:26that crazy. LeBron came back and said
- 13:29something pretty crazy, in my opinion, going after him for
- 13:33honestly, he's been taking shots at him now.
- 13:36It's weird because we know Windhorse made his career off of
- 13:39LeBron from his when he was in high school, he was writing
- 13:43about LeBron and getting on TV and that's how Windhorse became
- 13:46who he is. And he's, there's always been
- 13:48like, you know, he's not friends with LeBron, but he's been the
- 13:52guy that's profiled LeBron since he was 18 years old, maybe 17
- 13:55years old, but had the access. To what?
- 13:58What do you think too? And and Errol and and Speedy,
- 14:01you can do this too. Where do you think like that
- 14:05plays a part? Like the social media aspect of
- 14:08it? Because everything now it's
- 14:09more, it's more prevalent. Right, it's also ESPN has been
- 14:12LeBron. 'S network since 2010.
- 14:13You said it best. Fish, LeBron, giveth and he'll
- 14:16take it away and that's what he's going to do.
- 14:18He's losing power. Though now you're out of.
- 14:20Your mind? No, he's.
- 14:21Not you're out of your mind. Where do you get this?
- 14:24How do you lose this stuff? Up for the LJA hold.
- 14:27On have his own. Team hold on, it doesn't matter.
- 14:29Yes, he does. He has the Lakers.
- 14:31He who runs that organization. How do you think the Lucas team
- 14:34right now it's LeBron James. Luca does not have GM power.
- 14:38When LeBron James, when it's going to be when LeBron James
- 14:42walks away, yes, it's Lucas team, but guess what?
- 14:44When all these guys have their own podcast, he's going to be
- 14:47center stage when he walks away from the game because he's going
- 14:50to make money off his podcast. Look what the Kelsey's are doing
- 14:53right now. They're both going to walk away
- 14:55from the game and they're still going to be voices for the NFL
- 14:58because they have their own show.
- 15:00They just got 100 million. What do you think?
- 15:02Mind the game's going to get when he walks away.
- 15:03From Kelsey Kelsey. Showed up to the meeting about
- 15:07the Tush push. Yes, and he was the one that
- 15:09made the difference. Yeah, that's, I'm telling you
- 15:11right now, LeBron James is going nowhere from the game.
- 15:14If as a matter of fact, I think it's going to open up these
- 15:16podcasts and and the way you can analyze things, these are going
- 15:20to open up avenues for these guys when they walk away from
- 15:23the game. You're going to have Chris Paul,
- 15:25you're going to have all these guys have their own Carmelo
- 15:28Anthony has his own podcast. They're all.
- 15:31Raymond Green already done. For you to.
- 15:33Come out Want to run a team? Stop.
- 15:35Stop President or. Why does he have to?
- 15:38Why does he have to right now? That would be the thing.
- 15:40A guy like that does not run a podcast when you have $2
- 15:43billion. He could do both by team, he
- 15:46could do both. JJ Redick was trying to do it
- 15:48during the season, saying. Why would he?
- 15:50But you're telling me that this now you're telling me, but this
- 15:53is the problem, Fish. You're actually coming out and
- 15:56you're telling me right now that he's losing control.
- 15:59He is not losing control. He is the LJA LeBron James
- 16:03Association. He has everybody's voices coming
- 16:07through him and he speaks for the.
- 16:09Players, though, he Why? Why?
- 16:12Don't speak about him. I'm going to do it.
- 16:14I don't give a shit what LeBron says about me.
- 16:17You're punching down at this guy.
- 16:19This guy's just a reporter and he's, look, he's got a lot of
- 16:22attention. It's not like he's coming after
- 16:24your son like Stephen A Smith. It's not.
- 16:27He's done. Lebron's been a little out of
- 16:29pocket this season. Let's face it, It's been a
- 16:32little bit more in your face with the media than he's ever
- 16:35been. It's a little different now that
- 16:37he's 40, now that his son's, you know, nepotistic.
- 16:41Son's playing with him too. Son's in the league with him,
- 16:43like we just said with our previous story, right, with the
- 16:46father and son playing together or coaching with each other.
- 16:49Yeah, yeah, with the help of Britch Paul.
- 16:51Here, Here's how you're You're saying LeBron James is losing
- 16:54it. Oh yeah, it's just averaging
- 16:5524/7 and eight. Yeah, he's.
- 16:58He's basketball wise. Stop.
- 17:00He's not losing nothing. As like the top guy?
- 17:03Do you think he's a top 15 guy Do.
- 17:05You think, I think this is planned.
- 17:07I think LeBron James knows that what he is doing right now in
- 17:11the social. Media market not stupid.
- 17:13He's not stupid. He knows what he's doing and
- 17:16he's coming out there attacking people because it's going to
- 17:19benefit him. He is going to be in the
- 17:21tabloids. What did he do last year when
- 17:23they got eliminated from Denver and they got swept?
- 17:25What did he do? I'll tell you, tell you what he
- 17:28did after they got eliminated just to take all the, the, the
- 17:32shine away from the Nuggets. I'm sorry, two years ago, he
- 17:35said. You know what, this might be my
- 17:37last year. I think I'm I might, I might be.
- 17:39I have the clip right here. I was waiting for you to say,
- 17:42there it is, He goes. I don't even really know that
- 17:44was this. I'm talking about.
- 17:46When they made the finals. When they when?
- 17:48When the Nuggets won the Champions.
- 17:50You say I don't have to answer that or something.
- 17:52Like that and, and, and by the way, he opted in which I said he
- 17:55was going to do so, but you know what he did?
- 17:58He went to the ESPY Awards when everybody was doubting that he
- 18:01was going to come back. Him and his family went up there
- 18:04and his wife and his two sons and his daughter were up there
- 18:08and saying, ah, he's the greatest basketball player of
- 18:10all time. Meanwhile, everybody knows who
- 18:12the greatest basketball player of all time is, is Michael
- 18:15Jordan. But he went out there and his
- 18:17wife says when you when you married to the greatest
- 18:20basketball player of all time. Yeah, keep going to those Diddy
- 18:23parties, buddy. Keep going over there and
- 18:25hanging out with Diddy. That would be perfect for your
- 18:28who you are and acknowledge who you are as a person.
- 18:30I don't want to hear it. LeBron James is who he is.
- 18:33And if I'm Brian Windhorst, I disagree with you.
- 18:36I stay away from attacking LeBron James or even say
- 18:40anything about LeBron James because once you get put in that
- 18:45box, that box is going to be buried.
- 18:47And once he gets buried, so will he.
- 18:50He is not Stephen A Smith and I don't care what you say, ESPN.
- 18:54He's not even Wojnarowski. Brian Windhorst is a fat ass.
- 18:57That's what he is. No offense, Brian, if you want
- 19:00to come on the show, I, I go back and forth with you.
- 19:03I don't even really think you know as much as you think you
- 19:05know about the NBAI don't like Brian Windhorst.
- 19:08Honestly, as an analyst, I just I, I respect him.
- 19:12He's he's gone so far. But like you just said, Fish,
- 19:14you said it best. He LeBron gave him his career
- 19:18and he could take it away. And if LeBron James wants to
- 19:21take it away, he will. That's it.
- 19:23You know. It's tough though, right?
- 19:25Like he didn't do anything wrong in his.
- 19:28Right in your eyes, you're a. Journalist.
- 19:30If you're a journalist, you follow the story.
- 19:33The story in Akron, OH in 2002 was LeBron James and he stayed
- 19:39with it and he became that guy. He's branched out and done other
- 19:43stuff. And you're right, it's not like
- 19:44he's he knows the XS and OS. I'm sure he knows a little
- 19:47basketball, right? I'm sure he does, but Lebron's
- 19:52not wrong saying you probably shouldn't get your basketball
- 19:54takes from Brian Windhorst. You should get your insider
- 19:56information, maybe from him. You should be able to draw your
- 19:59own opinions from the stuff that he says.
- 20:02When they get on the shows, like get up and they start
- 20:04pontificating, that's that's like you're doing two different
- 20:07jobs at the same time. And I don't like that from my
- 20:09journalist. I want my journalist to be
- 20:11journalists. That personally, so I, I as a
- 20:14like specialist social studies teacher, you know, you see it in
- 20:16politics a lot where these guys pretend to be journalists and
- 20:19then they give you your, their opinions, but journalists don't
- 20:22do that. But do you think there's,
- 20:23there's, there's both sides of it too where you can be.
- 20:27And, and I've always wondered this too, you think from both
- 20:33sides of that fence, like if he's never been it and done it,
- 20:39what validity does he have to talk about?
- 20:42I agree with you, by the way. I, I don't think Windhor should
- 20:46be speaking. He's I understand.
- 20:49I understand what you're saying, Fish.
- 20:50He's I. Get where you're coming from.
- 20:52No IA. 100% agree. A great writer.
- 20:55But I think there's parts of things like for example, like
- 20:57when I talked to Jabba, I was. Not that bad because it's a
- 21:00different perspective in like I, in people that I talk about with
- 21:05the sport that I just happened to be able to play.
- 21:08I understand that as well because I get a different
- 21:11perspective because I see it from 1 dynamic.
- 21:15I don't see it from another. But when it comes down like when
- 21:19you, when you're calling out like one of one of the best to
- 21:24ever do it, it's it's tough. Like it's tough for me.
- 21:28Even when like I see it in baseball, I'm like, man, it's
- 21:35that that's tough for me to see because you have never stood and
- 21:43ESPN is what ESPN is and whatever.
- 21:47And I'm not trying to burn bridges or do anything.
- 21:50Nobody's burning anybody. I I think he's a fat ass but I
- 21:53can't listen to. I can't listen to Jessica
- 21:56Mendoza talk about baseball because she never stood 60 feet,
- 22:016 inches. I can't do it.
- 22:04Was she a great softball player? Yes.
- 22:08Do I love watching the Women's College World Series?
- 22:11Yes. But when you tell me about
- 22:14hitting. You.
- 22:17You. Stood in a batting cage and hit
- 22:20something you didn't grind and play 162 and these like so that
- 22:28that's where in what Windhorse was doing.
- 22:32We we value those guys because they are very, very
- 22:36knowledgeable people. I want to say something.
- 22:38Stephen A Smith. All right?
- 22:39Stephen A Smith. He's got a lot of knowledge in
- 22:41basketball. I called Stephen A Smith's show
- 22:44years and years ago on the radio, and he was talking about
- 22:46boxing, and he's got a good relationship for Floyd
- 22:49Mayweather. I've told everybody this story
- 22:51over and over and over again. OK, And if nobody's ever heard
- 22:54it, I'll give you a story. And This is why I don't, I don't
- 22:57listen to Stephen A Smith besides basketball.
- 23:00And even even with basketball, I'm starting to step away from
- 23:04listening to what Stephen A Smith has to say about
- 23:06basketball because I think he's a he's an idiot.
- 23:08OK, but here's the facts. He was talking about Mayweather
- 23:12and talking about he's the greatest, he's the greatest
- 23:14boxer of all time. And he was comparing his skill
- 23:17to Muhammad Ali and all his other stuff and comparing and
- 23:20contrasting. And by the way, I think Muhammad
- 23:22Ali, as much as people probably attack me, is one of the more
- 23:25overrated champions of all time. And I, I could give you reasons
- 23:28why that because I'm a boxing enthusiast.
- 23:31I watch boxing religiously. But he went out there and said
- 23:35that Mayweather is the greatest boxer in the last 30 years.
- 23:39And I said, I called his show. I went through and I said, Steve
- 23:42and I, OK, he's the greatest boxer of our generation, right?
- 23:46OK, who did he beat in their prime?
- 23:50Give me the last 10 fights. Who did Floyd Mayweather beat in
- 23:56his prime? And he sat there.
- 23:58I'm going to argue that with you, and I agree.
- 24:01Where do you put Bud Crawford? Buck Crawford Right now in the
- 24:06last 10 years, Buck Crawford is one of the top three boxers of
- 24:09this era in the last 10 years. And Bud still, and I know he's
- 24:14ampidextrous and he fights righty and lefty.
- 24:16I know Bud, I I watch him. I think he's a great.
- 24:19Fighter. And, and he's going to fight
- 24:21Canelo this year at the end of the year, hopefully that goes
- 24:23through. And, and I, and right now, even
- 24:25though a lot of people think September, right, yeah, a lot of
- 24:28people think Canelo is a little big for him.
- 24:30I still think Bud's speed and his ability to fight
- 24:33ampidextrous wise, I think he could beat Canelo.
- 24:36He's I saw what he did. Errol Spence.
- 24:38I was shocked because I had Errol Spence winning that fight.
- 24:41Barrel Spence after the fight, there were stories coming out
- 24:44that he was blind in one of his eyes.
- 24:46I never knew that. But after that car accident, he
- 24:49was actually blind in one of his eyes eyes.
- 24:52And he would he won the belts back after that the fact.
- 24:54But nevertheless, and by the way, one of the worst accidents
- 24:57I've ever seen. How he came out of that and got
- 24:59back in a boxing ring is is unbelievable.
- 25:01But he went at it and he was going back and forth with me
- 25:05telling me and I was naming fighters and I said all these
- 25:08guys that you you seem to think in the prime, even when he
- 25:12fought Manny Pacquiao, he wouldn't fight Manny Pacquiao
- 25:15five years before because Manny Pacquiao was at the top of his
- 25:19fighting game. He was fighting all the best
- 25:22fighters in their prime. And then when Manny Pacquiao
- 25:24five years later, when, when the fact was Manny Pacquiao was what
- 25:28what about to step down from boxing?
- 25:31He took the challenge on with Manny Pacquiao and Manny
- 25:34Pacquiao fought him with a torn rotator cuff.
- 25:37OK, he fought him and he did lose and Mayweather absolutely
- 25:41killed him. But if Mayweather fought him
- 25:43five years before, he would have lost the fight.
- 25:45And if then, then he went back and forth with me.
- 25:48I was yelling back and forth with him.
- 25:50And I said, listen, if you can't come up with one guy, you know
- 25:53what that tells me? You know what it smells like?
- 25:56It smells like dirty poo, poo. I I said it in a different way.
- 25:59It smells like poop because what it tells me is you don't know
- 26:03nothing about boxing and your enthusiastic background in
- 26:08boxing has no bearing to the conversation.
- 26:11That's what I said to. Him they kick it off the UFC
- 26:14fucking like this shit too. Yeah, well, he doesn't know
- 26:17anything. That was another thing.
- 26:18That's a whole another thing I don't.
- 26:19Know but I had AI had a great. Profession.
- 26:22But I didn't finish the story before you get into it.
- 26:24Sorry. I'm sorry.
- 26:25I just want to let everybody know.
- 26:27After we went back and forth, his producer hung up the phone
- 26:30on me and while for for for six months, I tried to call back the
- 26:35show and it kept going. It it was going through block.
- 26:39I couldn't get through to the show.
- 26:41I couldn't get through to the show.
- 26:42He would never speak to me again.
- 26:44And isn't it fitting that the guy my, my, I'm just going to
- 26:49say it and I don't he doesn't like my agent is his father is
- 26:53Stephen A Smith's agent. And I told him in a conversation
- 26:57a couple of months ago about this story and all he could do
- 27:00was laughed. And he says that seems like
- 27:01Steven to do something like that.
- 27:03And he's known Steven since he was 1514 years old.
- 27:06So it's just it's very fitting that Stephen A Smith.
- 27:10But again, Stephen A Smith is a bigger name that Brian Winors.
- 27:13If Stephen A Smith says something, a lot of his fans are
- 27:16going to believe what comes out of his mouth.
- 27:18If Brian Windhor says something, nobody gives a shit.
- 27:21And that's that's the facts, Fish.
- 27:23I don't care if he's the lead guy in ESPN.
- 27:25I don't care if he's the lead guy in the lead writer on
- 27:28Newsday. It doesn't matter to me.
- 27:30To me, he shouldn't be speaking unless he has pure facts to what
- 27:34he is saying. Prove it.
- 27:37Prove it before you come out there and say it.
- 27:40And you said it's not bad. LeBron will think anything is
- 27:44bad, especially if his name's being brought up in the
- 27:46conversation. But but that's unfair, you know,
- 27:49like he doesn't he's. Life's unfair one, Life's unfair
- 27:521. Vote in the in elections the
- 27:54same way. Brian, this show should be on
- 27:56ESPN. Have more this?
- 27:57Shows. This another human being in the
- 27:59United states of. This show should be on ESPN.
- 28:02This show should be on CBS. But we're not going to do it.
- 28:05I'm just. Saying not the law, but I'm
- 28:07telling you the law. But here's the law is.
- 28:09I don't give a shit. I don't give a shit about the
- 28:11law. Well, that's, I mean, well,
- 28:12that's very 2025 of you, but I'll, I'll tell you right now,
- 28:17the most important thing that I learned and why I would never do
- 28:20something like what Windhorsted, because he put himself out there
- 28:22for this type of criticism. Now he did.
- 28:25He shouldn't have put himself out there for me.
- 28:27Jabba, when I talk about baseball, I know there's things
- 28:31I don't know and why would I pretend like I know what I'm
- 28:36talking about in certain situations?
- 28:37But there's a lot of guys that are huge blowhards that do, and
- 28:43they get paid for being like that.
- 28:45So it keeps happening. And that's what the problem is.
- 28:48We keep having people that are not knowledgeable being put in
- 28:51these situations and just flying off of the handle because
- 28:54they're entertaining and guess what?
- 28:57No one's being educated and people just get angry at each
- 28:59other. That's why Lebron's upset,
- 29:02because he thinks him and Steve Nash are sitting there like the
- 29:04fucking geniuses. Sorry for cursing the geniuses.
- 29:07They are geniuses, they are. They are, but it's not like
- 29:10they're the only people who know basketball and they should look
- 29:13down on it. How many MVPS have they won
- 29:15together? LeBron James, I think, won
- 29:17three. You don't look and Steve and
- 29:19Steve Nash won two. That's five punching down
- 29:22instead of pulling up you. Try to big difference you try to
- 29:25teach. Them.
- 29:26Exactly. And it's we have an opportunity
- 29:30to be where we're at, right? And what we do.
- 29:35And I, I don't know if everybody believes this.
- 29:38This is what I do. This is what my father taught
- 29:41me. God rest his soul.
- 29:45But you want to bring them to like try to you.
- 29:48You don't want to talk down to anybody.
- 29:52You want to bring them to be like, hey, This is why I said
- 29:55this. This is why I did this.
- 29:58And you as a coach fish, you know this as well as I do.
- 30:02It's like, how do I make you better?
- 30:05Like how do I bring the fan in and make them better for the
- 30:09understanding of what it is like.
- 30:12If I get the platform to be able to do this, like can can I talk
- 30:17about certain instances where it brings you closer to the game
- 30:21and not push you away to feel like you have to argue with me
- 30:25because you disagree with my take?
- 30:28No, we want to bring people closer to the game.
- 30:32That's exactly what we want to do.
- 30:34And it's tough when these guys get, I don't know, the badge or
- 30:42whatever it is. And we we see it in all sports
- 30:48where they talk about certain things and then it just, it, it
- 30:53doesn't I, I, I just feel and this.
- 30:56Is Jabba Jabba just just think about this Brian Winehorst by
- 31:01LeBron James opening his mouth and speaking about Brian
- 31:04Winehorst is is putting him center stage in front of the
- 31:07public. So it's only helping Brian
- 31:09Winehorst's brand when he mentions him if he's if there's
- 31:131,000,000 and. Millions of people watching
- 31:15100%. That's exactly, that's exactly
- 31:18what he's like. Because if you look at the dude,
- 31:20you're like, yeah, did you ever run 92 feet and play?
- 31:25No, it looks like he ate a bunch of Twinkies and keeps.
- 31:28Is it 92 feet or 90? Those things taste good.
- 31:31I don't know. Good, good.
- 31:33Good for the. Good for you.
- 31:34You're going to eat Twinkies right now.
- 31:35Are you going to eat Twinkies? I'm doing really well.
- 31:38I don't know if you know, I mean, you know, yeah, I'm down.
- 31:40About 15 right now. I'm not a, I'm not a sweets, I'm
- 31:43not a sweets person. So I am good.
- 31:45I'm a sweets person so I love sweets and I if if there was
- 31:49nothing else in the world to eat, I would rather eat sweets
- 31:53than any chicken. And do you think Errol too, like
- 31:56when they basically like when not necessarily like come at
- 32:03somebody, but like have the topic of somebody, do you think
- 32:08they're like, is it clout? Is it cliques?
- 32:12Is it whatever? Because we all know that that's
- 32:15relevant today, right? Do you think he's doing it out
- 32:20of jest, or is he just doing it because that's really what he
- 32:27his take is? Or.
- 32:29If I get LeBron to come back at me, Like if, if we got LeBron to
- 32:33come back at us. He's a writer.
- 32:37It would be. Kind of the same thing, right?
- 32:39He's a writer, he's an analyst. So when he brings up LeBron
- 32:42James and LeBron James hears them out and he speaks about
- 32:45them, it's good for Brian Winhorse.
- 32:47So maybe Brian, that was his game plan.
- 32:49Hey, I'll bring up, I'll say something about LeBron James.
- 32:53LeBron James will come at me and I can write all these stories
- 32:56and sell it. Maybe that's what he's doing.
- 32:59The problem here is it's LeBron James.
- 33:01If you were doing it to Chris Paul or Carmelo Anthony, nobody
- 33:04gives a crap. Nobody cares if those guys, I
- 33:06think. It would.
- 33:07It would still have a little bit of legs to.
- 33:10It it would, But nobody cares about those guys.
- 33:13Nobody cares about those guys. I mean, what remember, remember
- 33:18when LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Carmelo Anthony went
- 33:24on the stage at the SP Awards a couple of years ago with
- 33:27obviously Black Lives Matter? Does anybody remember that?
- 33:31And when they spoke and all of them spoke, who was the last
- 33:33person to speak? It was LeBron, it was LeBron
- 33:37James. You know why LeBron James was
- 33:39the last person to speak? Because LeBron James is the
- 33:42leader. Everybody looks up to LeBron
- 33:45James. Nobody cares what Carmelo
- 33:47Anthony has to say. Nobody cares what Dwayne what no
- 33:50offense, nobody cares what Dwyane Wade has to say.
- 33:52All those guys are Hall of Farmers.
- 33:54The guy that is the face of the NBA or the LJA is LeBron James.
- 33:59So that's what people want to hear.
- 34:01And if LeBron James is going to speak about Brian Windhorst, it
- 34:04makes him stand out out from all the other guys.
- 34:08All the other guys talking about him.
- 34:09Why do you think Stephen A Smith went after LeBron James's son?
- 34:13Do you think it was calculate? Calculate.
- 34:16I think he he calculated how he can attack these guys.
- 34:19He went from LeBron James to Kevin Durant, two guys that have
- 34:26been the faces of the NBA. He won't go after Steve Curry,
- 34:30Stephen Curry, because Stephen Curry's still playing and he's
- 34:33still like really one of the big faces right now in the league,
- 34:37even though I think Steph Curry is hurt, but he's.
- 34:39He's also not that dynamic figure of what LeBron is because
- 34:46LeBron will will face that fact. Steph's like I'm good like
- 34:51Steph. Curry doesn't.
- 34:53You know? You know what they need guys.
- 34:54They just need to sit down, crack open like a six pack
- 34:58together. They're probably doing that
- 34:59right now. And, and just, you know, maybe
- 35:02they are and they're just, this is a big joke and they're just
- 35:04taking it home to the bank for the cliques for themselves.
- 35:06But I know personally that it's really dumb that they're doing
- 35:11this. I it's like annoying in a, in a
- 35:14way, like you're such a great player.
- 35:15Why are you punching down? And the other end, aren't you
- 35:18happy that you have this career? Why are you?
- 35:20Why are you poking the bear? It just doesn't make sense.
- 35:23It's like a smelly snatch. It's like a smelly snatch you
- 35:25don't want to smell. ESPN reports that the Knicks
- 35:28have fired Tom Thibodeau after five seasons of coaching for the
- 35:33team. The league source told ESPN that
- 35:37many Knicks executives thought that Thibodeau got barely out
- 35:40coached in the Eastern Conference Finals and their game
- 35:43one collapse was a date. Was a what?
- 35:47A dagger? A dagger for Thibodeau unless
- 35:50they won the series. Reports say that Leon Rose met
- 35:53with every player after the Knicks lost against the Pacers,
- 35:56and while the team never turned on Thibodeau, there were some
- 36:00doubts if he could lead this team to a title.
- 36:04Thibodeau had 400 regular season wins and 24 playoff wins with
- 36:09the Knicks as the head coach. ESP NS Brian Windhorst reports
- 36:14that one of three head coaches that were fired during the
- 36:20regular seasons, Mike Brown, Taylor Jenkins or Mike Malone
- 36:24are on the Knicks radar. Reports also say that the Knicks
- 36:28could try to convince Ime Aduka to leave the Rockets or go after
- 36:34Jason Kidd, with him likely to step down from The Mavericks,
- 36:38which he did step down from The Mavericks.
- 36:40Malone is the betting favorite to become the next head coach,
- 36:45followed by Johnny Bryant and Jay Wright.
- 36:48Well, I, I know this. I know I didn't listen to Josh's
- 36:51show today, but I know he wants Johnny Bryant and I know a lot
- 36:55of people. If you know anything about the
- 36:57Knicks, when Johnny Bryant went to the Cavaliers because he was
- 36:59the the defensive coach for the New York Knicks.
- 37:02If you know what the Knicks numbers were when Johnny Bryant
- 37:04was there as their defensive guy, they were one of the top
- 37:07five teams in the league. Johnny Bryant went to the
- 37:11Cavaliers. Go look at the Cavaliers defense
- 37:13this year and what they were ranked because of Johnny Bryant.
- 37:16They were amongst the league's top five.
- 37:19Johnny Bryant's the bet, one of the best young candidates right
- 37:22now in the NBA. But if you could get e-mail,
- 37:25e-mail Aduka or what a Mike Malone.
- 37:28I go after the more experienced guy, especially if you're
- 37:32expected to win with a veteran team.
- 37:34This is not a young team. They're not an old team, but
- 37:37they're not a young team. This is a team that has been
- 37:40here before. Now they have the experience.
- 37:43And you look at the New York Knicks, there's a lot of
- 37:45questions if this team is actually getting along with one
- 37:48another. And I know everybody, there was
- 37:50pictures all over social media after they got knocked out of
- 37:53the playoffs with I think over 24 hours.
- 37:56They were partying. All of them were partying and
- 37:58clubbing in New York. Does that look like a sad team?
- 38:02Does that look like a team that was upset after getting knocked
- 38:06off against the pacer team that they were much better than?
- 38:09The answer would be no. And then there were stories
- 38:12coming out recently that nobody wants Jalen Brunts's father on
- 38:17the bench next year. None of them.
- 38:19There was there was a five guys. There was reports saying that
- 38:22there were five starters. So it can't beat Jalen Brunson.
- 38:26So it had to be Josh Hart, who was Jalen Brunson's good friend.
- 38:30McHale Bridges I know is not a big fan of Jalen Brunson's
- 38:33father, OJ Nanobi, Karl Anthony Towns couldn't stand Jalen
- 38:38Bronson's father and maybe McBride there there were five
- 38:42starters or guys that play a lot of minutes on this team that
- 38:46told Leon Rose, if he's on the team, trade me in the offseason.
- 38:52What does this do for the Knicks now?
- 38:54I I don't think this is much of a story if you're a Knicks fan.
- 38:57I know the press is trying to make a story and turn this into
- 39:02a team A-Team gathering that nobody's getting along and this
- 39:06is going to be a cancerous team next year.
- 39:08I don't believe that. I really don't if it's Mike
- 39:11Malone or any of these coaches. I do not believe Jalen Brunson's
- 39:15father will be on the bench next year because they have their own
- 39:18coaching Staffs that they're going to add Tom Thibodeau and
- 39:23obviously Jalen, what's Jalen Brunson?
- 39:26Rick? Rick Brunson are very good
- 39:29friends. He worked.
- 39:30Rick Brunson worked with with Thibodeau over there with the
- 39:34Timberwolves. He was very, very likable to Tom
- 39:38Thibodeau. Tom Thibodeau and him, if you
- 39:40know, Rick Brunson played for the Knicks in 99.
- 39:43Tom Thibodeau was an assistant coach for the Knicks in the 90s.
- 39:47He was Jeff Anne Gundy's number one, number one defensive mind
- 39:52on his bench, and he knew Rick Bronson.
- 39:54And so Rick Bronson's been following Tom Thibodeau for
- 39:57years. Now that Rick Bronson's no
- 39:59longer with the team, what does that tell me?
- 40:02It probably tells me Rick Bronson, I mean, Tom Thibodeau
- 40:05is no longer with the team. It tells me that Rick Bronson's
- 40:07probably not going to be on this coaching staff now if he is.
- 40:11If I was any of these players, if I'm OG and Anobi or Michael
- 40:14Bridges or Carl Anthony Towns, I would not be happy.
- 40:17I would not be happy. But I don't.
- 40:19I do believe Leon Rose will listen to the players.
- 40:22I do. And again, Jalen Bronson, if if
- 40:26I was, and I'm I'm just speaking the truth job of your father.
- 40:30Your father was a big supporter of what you did.
- 40:32He went to all your games. He watched you play.
- 40:35He didn't ask, he didn't ask Joe Torry if he could be on the
- 40:38bench, did he? No, he doesn't have to be on the
- 40:40bench. He could be out in the the with
- 40:43the fans watching the games and talk to you at the end of the
- 40:45games. I don't know why Jalen Rick
- 40:47Brunson has to be on the bench and be there when their timeouts
- 40:51and he's talking to the players. I wouldn't want that either,
- 40:54knowing that my son is the best player on the team.
- 40:57And, and, and by the way, did anybody watch the Celtic series
- 41:00after the after the series was over and Rick Brunson went up
- 41:06to, I think it was Stephen A Smith.
- 41:09And, and Stephen A Smith wanted to hug Jaylen Brunson because he
- 41:12was so happy. Rick Brunson was in between them
- 41:15trying to speak to, to Stephen A Smith and Stephen A Smith tried
- 41:20to nudge him out of the way so he could talk to Jaylen Brunson.
- 41:23And that's a problem because Rick Brunson, who wasn't a great
- 41:26NBA player, he was a good, he was a good backup player.
- 41:29He was on the bench for the Knicks.
- 41:31He he wasn't a good, but his son's one of the best players
- 41:34New York's ever had and he wants to brag about him.
- 41:37And and again, nobody wants to go through Steve, Rick, Rick
- 41:40Bronson to talk to Jalen Bronson.
- 41:43But again, this is what happens when your father is in between
- 41:46your career. Who's his agent?
- 41:49Who's his agent? Is it, Is it Rick Bronson?
- 41:52I don't know. I don't know who's who's
- 41:54actually Jalen Bronson's agent. But again, this New York Knick
- 41:57team. That's that's why I think
- 41:59parents are the worst, man. It's it they, we, we've seen it
- 42:03come into play obviously a lot of times.
- 42:06And I actually had a conversation with a dad today.
- 42:12And it comes down to like, I never in my perspective would
- 42:18ever step in front of Carter's career.
- 42:22Doesn't matter what I do, doesn't matter what I've done,
- 42:26who I am and we've we've seen that though, man and it's and
- 42:31it's and it, it doesn't make sense to me where the disconnect
- 42:37between these parents because there's a disconnect because I'm
- 42:44a parent first and foremost, then I'm a coach, then I'm a
- 42:50teacher and then I'm this right. And obviously I'm the only one
- 42:57that has a kid here and he's going to be a sophomore and he
- 43:03literally just text me. He's like, I'm throwing a pen
- 43:05tomorrow, dad. And but I'm there to help.
- 43:11Like, why do we hinder that aspect of what our kids can be?
- 43:18And you, you hit the nail on the head.
- 43:22He played in the NBA great, but doesn't mean you have to
- 43:27interfere or do anything with your with your.
- 43:30Kids, he doesn't have to be on the bench and and I understand
- 43:33what some of the players I know it's Karl Anthony Towns by the
- 43:35way, Karl Anthony. Towns But do you like him being
- 43:38on the bench? Because I said this, I said the
- 43:40same thing there. We had this conversation on
- 43:43lunch today and I, I was like, OK, so if you're an athletic
- 43:47director of the high school, right, And you are the head
- 43:52varsity baseball coach and you have two sons playing, do we not
- 43:58have a conversation? Fish, you know this better than
- 44:01any of us. If you're the athletic director,
- 44:06do you not sit there and be like, OK, are you going to do
- 44:12this? Like, and, and I would love your
- 44:14perspective on this because we actually literally talked about
- 44:17this today at lunch. I before you do that, before you
- 44:20do that, I wanted to finish up with Tom Thibodeau because I, I,
- 44:24I got, I got a text from one of my friends recently and, and we
- 44:28were going back and forth about Tom Thibodeau and, and does he
- 44:31deserve another chance to take this team as far as he could in
- 44:35the playoffs? And I've been saying this all
- 44:38season long that Tom Thibodeau does not belong with this New
- 44:41York Knicks. I thought that the Knicks should
- 44:43have fired him two years ago. Now he took them to the Eastern
- 44:46Conference finals thanks to Leon Rose making that trade with Karl
- 44:49and for bringing Karl Anthony Towns into Mikkel Bridges.
- 44:51Karl Anthony Towns choked throughout the playoffs and
- 44:54Mikkel Bridges didn't show up in this Pacer series, but Tom
- 44:58Thibodeau took the Knicks as far as he could.
- 45:01He, I don't think he was going anywhere.
- 45:03I don't think he was going to take this team anywhere else.
- 45:05How far did he take the balls? He took them all the way to the
- 45:08Eastern Conference Finals against LeBron James and the
- 45:10Miami Heat. He couldn't get over the hump
- 45:12over there with the Timberwolves.
- 45:13The far furthest he took them was in the first round of the
- 45:16playoffs with Jimmy Buckets and Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony
- 45:20Edwards. I'm not saying that he is not a
- 45:23great coach. I'm not saying he's not a
- 45:24winning coach. He is a winning coach, but he's
- 45:27not a winning coach where you want that He wanted you think
- 45:31you're going to as far as the regular season like Mike Tomlin.
- 45:34Mike Tomlin won't want Super Bowl, but he took Coward's team.
- 45:37He took the team that Coward put together and he took them to he
- 45:42took them to the to the Super Bowl.
- 45:45And then since then, since they he was building his own team.
- 45:49He hasn't gone to the Super Bowl since.
- 45:51He's not won a Super Bowl since then.
- 45:52Mike Tomlin's the Bobby Cox of baseball.
- 45:55The the Braves won 15 division championships.
- 45:58They only won one World Series. And that's Tom Thibodeau.
- 46:01That's what I'm trying to say. No, I agree.
- 46:03No, I agree. Tom-tom Thibodeau is Bobby.
- 46:06Bobby Cox. He's all these guys that we
- 46:08think about. Great, great coach, can't get
- 46:11over the hump and you're not going to be able to win with
- 46:13them. So by the way, Stephen A Smith
- 46:15was very surprised that he should've.
- 46:17They all said that. Stephen A Smith on the show says
- 46:19I would have given Tom another year.
- 46:21There was a lot of people that said they should have given Tom
- 46:23another year. Here's the reason why you don't.
- 46:26Jalen Bronson signed a four year deal.
- 46:28That's what he signed. OG and Anobi signed a four and a
- 46:31half five year. Well, he had four years left of
- 46:33the deal. McHale Bridges is probably going
- 46:35to sign a four year deal. Karl Anthony Towns has three
- 46:38years left on his contract, all these guys.
- 46:40Miles McBride signed a three-year deal last year.
- 46:43He's got two years left, all these guys.
- 46:45Josh Hart signed, what, a three-year deal in the
- 46:47offseason. All these guys are there and set
- 46:50up to win now. If they don't win in the next
- 46:54two years, the window shots and then we're going back to the
- 46:58same old Knicks. They don't draft right.
- 47:00The league doesn't give them top three picks.
- 47:03They haven't had a top three picks and that the first one
- 47:05they had was RJ Barrett. RJ Barrett's no longer with the
- 47:08team because they trade on for OJ Ann and OB.
- 47:10The Knicks never really get top three picks. 76ers got a ton of
- 47:14them. The Cavaliers get a ton of them.
- 47:15The Mavericks get a ton of them, but not not the Knicks.
- 47:18I don't even know if The Mavericks, I'm sorry, but.
- 47:20The Pelicans, The. Pelicans.
- 47:21Every one of these teams get it. The Knicks have been one of the
- 47:24worst teams in the NBA, and they've had 1/4 pick in
- 47:27Porzingis and 1/3 pick in RJ Barrett, and both players are no
- 47:31longer on the team. And by the way, one of them won
- 47:35a championship with the team that you knocked out in the
- 47:38second round in the Boston Celtics.
- 47:40What I'm trying to say here is the Knicks made the right
- 47:43decision. Tom Thibodeau was not the guy
- 47:45and I don't care. As the stories were coming out,
- 47:47when you just heard that, obviously ownership and the GM
- 47:52sat down. Leon Rose sat down with every
- 47:54single player and they never put down Tom Thibodeau.
- 47:57He knew what the the writing on the wall was.
- 47:59We have to fire Tom. There's a ton of coaches that
- 48:02are going to be available this offseason.
- 48:04If we wait another year, none of these coaches are going to be
- 48:07available. Mike Malone, Mike Malone's going
- 48:09to go somewhere. Why do you think Johnny Bryant
- 48:12was the lead guy to get that Phoenix Sun job?
- 48:14He didn't take the job and the other Cavalier assistant took
- 48:18the job, and he's, like you said, Fish.
- 48:20He's the best one out of all of the assistant assistant coaches
- 48:25for Kenny Atkinson. So the reason why I didn't take
- 48:28the job is because he really wants this Knick job.
- 48:31He has a better chance to win with the Knicks than he doesn't.
- 48:34By the way, Devin Booker could be a Knick in the offseason, so
- 48:37there could be a lot of transition in the Phoenix Suns.
- 48:39Why would he go there when he could coach this team?
- 48:41And I have a chance to win in. So that's what it is.
- 48:44And I, I, I do want to hear fish's fish's thoughts as
- 48:47obviously being he's he's a coach.
- 48:49He he deals with parents. But I wanted to say that the
- 48:52Knicks made the right decision firing Todd Thibodau.
- 48:55I love you, Tom. I wish you nothing but the best.
- 48:57If you want to coach again, you're 68 at the end of the
- 49:00year. I I wish you nothing but the
- 49:02best. But he's a 68 year old and I
- 49:05just think he was losing too much hair and he didn't want to
- 49:08deal with the abuse that obviously at the end of the
- 49:10season the fans were going to give him.
- 49:12And I'm telling OK, so. Before that, before you get in
- 49:17in fish, I can't wait for you to go in.
- 49:21Do you always think it falls on the coach because there has to
- 49:25be a fall guy and we've. Talked well in the NBA, we've
- 49:28seen the trends go in that direction.
- 49:30We were talking about with Malone, and Malone was the big
- 49:32one, but there. Was players run the league?
- 49:33Yeah, there was also Taylor Jenkins.
- 49:34I guess it's enough of a trend where they didn't want to think
- 49:37it could warrant something. Like for Tom Thibodeau, yeah,
- 49:40maybe it's not all on him, but it wasn't all on Malone either.
- 49:43For Denver. And Denver, I think their
- 49:45playoff run getting as far as they did, taking OKC to seven
- 49:48games, that was a shocker, right?
- 49:50That actually might show that maybe some of that transition of
- 49:53culture could be a good thing for a team that maybe a coach
- 49:56ends up wearing out on you. Malone was there, I think a
- 49:58little bit longer than Thibodeau.
- 50:00And I think I guess maybe the message was stale, even though
- 50:02the Nuggets are still very good team in the same kind of
- 50:04position with the Knicks. Like you want to think that
- 50:06they're building something nicely and you could say that
- 50:09maybe a younger coach transforms that kind of thing.
- 50:11You look at other teams that have won in the past.
- 50:14Somebody, Zach in the comment section mentioned Frank Vogel.
- 50:16Frank Vogel goes to the Lakers. They get a culture change over
- 50:19there. You're right to LeBron, Anthony
- 50:20Davis are there, but he still was very good in other places
- 50:22that he went to. Like sometimes that's all you
- 50:24need. Milwaukee with Mike Budenholzer.
- 50:26Mike Budenholzer wins a championship I think four years
- 50:28into his time there after they had some previously good
- 50:31coaches, including Jason Kidd over there, and now you get
- 50:34getting Doc Rivers and they can't win a playoff series.
- 50:36So sometimes you just need that kind of impact.
- 50:38And maybe Johnny Bryan is that type of guy if that's the
- 50:39direction that they go. And otherwise you go go for
- 50:41Malone. And Malone brings a different
- 50:43pedigree that you need, too. So what do you always think?
- 50:47It's usually the manager that's the fall guy.
- 50:50I'll tell you why, and it's pretty simple.
- 50:52The NBA is run by the players. So what is the GM going to do?
- 50:56The first thing he's going to do is he's going to talk to the
- 50:58players. And even though the players were
- 51:00behind Tom Thibodeau, as we've heard that they were, if
- 51:04nobody's going to put them down and you're trying to figure out
- 51:07what was going on and why they couldn't get over the hump
- 51:09against the Pacers. The first thing the president
- 51:12and the GM and all these executives worldwide, West and
- 51:15all the guys in the room are going to say when they walk out
- 51:18and after the interview of the last guy, they're going to say
- 51:20it's the coach's fault. We have to, we have to fire him.
- 51:22That's the first thing they say. If nobody's going to, nobody's
- 51:25going to take responsibility for it.
- 51:26And none of them did. That's what I've heard.
- 51:29We think it was different in Denver, though.
- 51:31Denver They. Couldn't stand them.
- 51:33They couldn't. They fired.
- 51:34Both of them, and I think they pitted like guys in the because.
- 51:37They didn't get along though, right?
- 51:39Yeah, but they. Didn't get along.
- 51:40What does that mean though? Towards like the operations of
- 51:43the team? The GM wants certain guys
- 51:45played, the head coach wants different guys played.
- 51:48They don't get in the rotation. They do get in the rotation.
- 51:50Now you're pitting players against coaches, players against
- 51:53other players. It's a toxic environment that
- 51:55was being created. I think that's why they both
- 51:58went and I think it was probably the right move.
- 52:00I think both of them actually. I'm not really sure about Calvin
- 52:03Booth, but I definitely think Malone can survive somewhere
- 52:06else. The Booth thing was weird to me.
- 52:08I don't know enough about him to really comment on it, but it
- 52:10didn't. Look, I don't again, I don't
- 52:11think he was that bad though. Like he just still drafted some
- 52:14good young players that just won a championship.
- 52:16It was a conflict of. Interest who takes credit for
- 52:19the championship? The team should take credit.
- 52:21But I felt like, you know, I everything I read said that
- 52:24Booth wanted to take more credit for it, Malone wanted to take
- 52:27more credit for it, and it became a pissing match.
- 52:29So that's what happened there. The Tibbs thing I want to answer
- 52:34Jab. Let me answer Jabba's thing
- 52:35first about coaching, because I have, I mean, I got stories.
- 52:38I I think parents are a double edged sword, Jabba, when it
- 52:41comes to coaching sports when especially at the high school
- 52:44level, even worse at the younger levels.
- 52:47I mean, I've had parents of five year olds come and yell at me on
- 52:50the field, you know, because they didn't like the call in the
- 52:54five year old football game because the play shouldn't
- 52:57allowed because he was shooting gaps and you're allowed on the
- 53:00field. And I've seen parents yell at
- 53:01those kids, and I've seen really toxic.
- 53:04I've also seen parents come from the stands in a varsity football
- 53:08game and it cost the coach on the field.
- 53:10I've seen both of those things. I've also seen some of the best
- 53:14parents in the world provide for the team, provide dinners for
- 53:18the team, provide transportation for the team, create a positive
- 53:22environment. So it's like you got to keep
- 53:24them a little bit at arm's distance.
- 53:26You have to have a good organization.
- 53:28It has to be structured well. You can't just let anybody into
- 53:31the hen house really as far as a.
- 53:33Parent. So do you think that translates
- 53:35to like even even into? I think it translates to the
- 53:39Knicks and this story because of Rick Brunson.
- 53:43And Rick Brunson is the ultimate parent of the star player.
- 53:46And really, guess who his agent is?
- 53:48Rick Jalen Brunson. It's Sam Rose, the son of Leon
- 53:52Rose. Now I see.
- 53:53Now I see the situation, that is why.
- 53:55I forgot about that. I I did know.
- 53:57That's the whole situation, right?
- 53:59They're all in it together. It's a that's how the NBA is.
- 54:01That's how LeBron operates in LA, too.
- 54:03That's. Just LJA, literally.
- 54:06I was listening and that's kind of why I brought that up,
- 54:08because I was hoping somebody. No, you're.
- 54:10Absolutely right. And that's the thing, and I
- 54:12actually, I actually have a clip up here.
- 54:14Do you remember very early in the season, Nixon Timberwolves
- 54:16played and Dante Di Vincenzo went after Rick Brunson at the
- 54:20end of the game and started shouting at him.
- 54:23And there was during the game, Dante was also shouting at Tibbs
- 54:27saying can't finish, right. Tibbs can't finish after he got
- 54:29an and 1:00. But they had to be separated.
- 54:32I remember this from the very beginning of season.
- 54:34I didn't think anything of it until this story came out, you
- 54:37know, just earlier today or was it last night or whatever it
- 54:39was. It's really problematic and I've
- 54:42seen things like that before. Now we know that Rick Brunson's
- 54:46a Tibbs guy dating back to his playing days.
- 54:48He also coached with him in Minnesota.
- 54:50I don't know the whole details of the legal trouble he might
- 54:52have been in or not been in, but I my understanding is Tibbs
- 54:56cared for him in that situation and gave him a job.
- 54:58So he's a Tibbs guy. Now that Tibbs is gone, I don't
- 55:01know what that situation's going to be like, but it sounds like
- 55:05he's going to have to take a step back if this team's going
- 55:07to work because it's not working that communication level.
- 55:11The reason, the last thing I'll say is I do think Tibbs to go
- 55:14back to the Knicks and Tibbs, I do think he had to go.
- 55:17And it's there's the messaging, sure.
- 55:21The people complaining, the new players not fitting in, you
- 55:23know, as well as the older players, once they traded away
- 55:26Julius Randle, you know that the chemistry wasn't the same.
- 55:29I didn't think not that Julius Randle is a better player than
- 55:31Carl Anthony Towns. No one's saying that.
- 55:33The chemistry was certainly a lot better.
- 55:35And I do think that that's a thing.
- 55:37And I think that might have had to do with coaching McHale
- 55:39getting, not getting the shots that he's used to.
- 55:42They didn't really get him going this year enough and I think
- 55:45this that I want to put up here is the one that drove me the
- 55:48most crazy. This was in the first round of
- 55:50playoffs against Detroit. Do you remember this game when
- 55:52he Tibbs didn't just left Hart and Brunson on the standing in
- 55:56there, didn't call the time out he had and they lost this game
- 55:58because he just let the ball keep going with freaking
- 56:02campaign out there, you know, take chucking shots and they
- 56:06don't get in and we lose that game.
- 56:08He'd had a number of screw ups with getting guys in, not
- 56:12calling timeouts fast enough. I think I thought throughout
- 56:14the. Playoffs.
- 56:15I think after Rick Carlisle just completely out coached him in
- 56:19that series, that was the that was the dagger.
- 56:22That's what pretty much Leon. Rose the way.
- 56:25The way Carlisle made adjustments to what he saw that
- 56:29the Knicks were doing, it showed us all of me.
- 56:32And the Knicks did exactly what they've been doing all season
- 56:36long. There was he didn't really even
- 56:39have to adjust. He knew what the Knicks were
- 56:41going to do. And that's the problem with Tom
- 56:43Thibodeau. That's a problem with a lot of
- 56:44these old coaches, Doc Rivers being one of them.
- 56:48There's no adjustments. There's never adjustments.
- 56:51Doc Rivers hasn't adjusted for eight years.
- 56:53And that's why, and the only reason why Doc Rivers still
- 56:55still has a job is because of what he did with the Celtics.
- 56:58Let me go. Let me tell you something before
- 57:00we go on to the next segment and we have to go to a sportsman, I
- 57:04want to say one thing. Doc Rivers.
- 57:06I watch the Celtic City I and guys, it's a 10.
- 57:09It's a 10. I think it's a nine episode part
- 57:12documentary. It's fantastic.
- 57:14It's great. I hate the Celtics, but it's a
- 57:17must watch if you're a basketball.
- 57:18Phil Simmons, 30 for 30 guys. Right.
- 57:20It's yeah, it's fantastic. It's great.
- 57:23Watch it HBO. You can get it on HBO Plus.
- 57:27Go check it out there. There was one thing I learned
- 57:30about the Boston Celtics in that series in Doc Rivers, in that,
- 57:34in that documentary, Doc Rivers was a loser all the way through.
- 57:39Paul Pierce, I forgot, remember when he got stabbed 11 times and
- 57:43he almost died? I forgot all about that.
- 57:45And then Doc Rivers was the coach of the team and all that
- 57:48other stuff when no, actually at the time it wasn't Doc Rivers.
- 57:52Doc Rivers got the job after that, but never.
- 57:55Pitino was with the Celtics. That was when Pitino was with
- 57:58the Celtics and by the way, Pitino when he.
- 58:00Threw a great first pitch, by the way.
- 58:02Pitino, That's pretty funny, actually.
- 58:05Pitino left the Celtics. When he walked away from the
- 58:07Celtics, he didn't even speak to the press.
- 58:09He never spoke to the press after that.
- 58:11That was so interesting because every single Celtic, Antoine
- 58:15Walker, Paul Pierce, and Pitino and Paul Pierce were very, very
- 58:18close. They said that that Pitino was a
- 58:21bitch. Now he couldn't even speak.
- 58:23He couldn't give his farewell speech.
- 58:25And this is the same Celtic team that gave Pitino $70 million to
- 58:29take that coaching job. And then he couldn't let he laid
- 58:32up a lousy Cusack and everywhere he went, he was a winner, except
- 58:35that the Celtics. But that's not what he what I
- 58:37really wanted to get into. When Doc Rivers took out, took
- 58:40that took that team over that team sucked.
- 58:44Really 3-4 years until they made that trade to bringing Kevin
- 58:49Garnett and then obviously they drafted Rondo and then what's
- 58:53his name again? Ray Allen.
- 58:55Ray Allen was there 1st. And by the way, Kevin Garnett
- 58:58never wanted to go to the Celtics until they made that
- 59:00move for Ray Allen. He Paul Pierce was reaching out
- 59:04to him and saying come to the Celtic, comes to the Celtics,
- 59:06says why would I go to the Celtics when I have the same
- 59:08situation over here with the Timberwolves?
- 59:10There would be no reason why I'm going to move my family over
- 59:12there if we're not going to win. And then when they added Ray.
- 59:15Allen And then it was impossible as nothing as they win.
- 59:20And, and by the way, I remember it.
- 59:22So Bill Russell, after Garnett was trained, Bill Russell talked
- 59:25to Kevin Garnett and he asked Kevin Garnett, how many, how
- 59:28many championships you think you're going to win here?
- 59:30And, and, and Kevin Garnett says, I don't know.
- 59:33He says, I think you're going to win three, He says.
- 59:35And Bill Russell said, if you don't win any championships
- 59:38here, if you play your heart out, I'll, I'll share one of my
- 59:42rings with you. And then when he won his first
- 59:44ring and his only ring, he went to Bill Russell and he said I
- 59:47won one, I don't need yours. I won one.
- 59:50It was but. Jussell has 10.
- 59:53I'm just saying, actually he has 11, so he has 11. 11.
- 59:59Yeah, he's 11 championships. And I think he won one as a
- 1:00:01coach 2. 2. As a.
- 1:00:03Coach 2 as a coach, 2 as a coach, which a documentary shows
- 1:00:06you that too. But people, people forget about
- 1:00:09koozie and all that other stuff and how great Bob Koozie was.
- 1:00:12But nevertheless, you got to check it out.
- 1:00:13But it, it was so interesting because after, after Garnett
- 1:00:17went down, after they won the championship where they thought
- 1:00:19they, the Celtics believe they had the better team that year
- 1:00:23when he went down and he tore his ACL, they never won again.
- 1:00:26They played the, the Lakers the next year in the, in the finals
- 1:00:29and the Lakers torched them. So I, I, I just, I want to say
- 1:00:32something and I wanted to say that because I, I just look at
- 1:00:36Doc Rivers. Doc Rivers had one great season,
- 1:00:40one great season with the Celtics and because of that
- 1:00:43great season with the Celtics, that's why he's gotten all these
- 1:00:46jobs, the Clippers and he's got Milwaukee.
- 1:00:49That's the only reason why. Or 76ers.
- 1:00:52That's the only reason why he got a job is because he won 1
- 1:00:56championship with the Celtics. And by the way, me you speedy
- 1:01:01probably would have coached Kevin Garnett in his prime.
- 1:01:05Paul George is a pretty. Good defensive coach.
- 1:01:08Rondo in his. Young here as well during that
- 1:01:11championship run. I forget his name.
- 1:01:13Oh, wait. Tom Thibodeau, I.
- 1:01:14Mean Tom Thibodeau yeah, look, we know Tibbs is a great
- 1:01:17defensive coach and I guess we should wrap it up on him It's
- 1:01:21it's sad that he was such a he brought.
- 1:01:23Back, thank God. Goodbye.
- 1:01:24Thank you, Tom. Complete relevance 4 Four
- 1:01:27playoff runs. We had one in the previous 25
- 1:01:30years. You realize that?
- 1:01:32He's good. He's good to get you in the
- 1:01:34playoffs, the Eastern Conference.
- 1:01:35Finals. He's the modern day Mark
- 1:01:37Jackson, right? Hopefully we can get our version
- 1:01:40of Steve. Kerr Oh, stop with this.
- 1:01:44Stop with this. Steve Kerr let's go name.

- 1:02:14but Mr. Goody, 50, I think he said 57 strikeouts in two games
- 1:02:18of some crazy number. So it's it's pretty cool.
- 1:02:22He's he's he's doing such a such a good job over there. 57
- 1:02:26Something like that, 4040. Seven only 27 outs.
- 1:02:30That'd be 54 outs. And it was 47, that was maybe it
- 1:02:32was 40 something. It was something high.
- 1:02:34It was a high number, so it was definitely in the four.
- 1:02:38It was either a 40s or the 50s, I don't know.
- 1:02:40Anyways, that's it for a show. We will see you next week.
