- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Monday edition of Fair Territory. I'm
- 0:05Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal, and this show, regrettably is brought to you
- 0:09Speaker 1: by the Hamape bone. The Hamae bone, the fractured of
- 0:14Speaker 1: the fracture of the hamdmape bone has been a topic
- 0:17Speaker 1: really all season, and we've got two more hammemade injuries
- 0:20Speaker 1: that took place over the weekend, both in the Al
- 0:23Speaker 1: Central Jose Ramirez, the Guardian Star, suffered a fractured hammate,
- 0:28Speaker 1: as did the Royals Vinnie Pasconino, who had struggled really
- 0:33Speaker 1: big time earlier this season but had revived in recent weeks.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Both these guys, the expectation will be that they are
- 0:41Speaker 1: lost for four to six weeks, maybe five to seven weeks,
- 0:45Speaker 1: somewhere in that range. Now the Royals, they're having a
- 0:48Speaker 1: miserable season, tied for the worst record in the American
- 0:52Speaker 1: League with the Angels. So these injuries, the more impactful
- 0:56Speaker 1: one clearly is on Cleveland. Now, Cleveland is a tea
- 1:00Speaker 1: that has a lot of depth in its infield, but
- 1:05Speaker 1: it only has one Jose Ramirez. He is their star,
- 1:08Speaker 1: and beyond being their star, he's their leader. The example
- 1:13Speaker 1: that is set for all of the other players. You
- 1:16Speaker 1: hear the Guardians talk about it constantly. We have a
- 1:19Speaker 1: guy who we all follow, we follow his work, ethic,
- 1:22Speaker 1: his approach to the game, and that is Jose Ramirez.
- 1:25Speaker 1: So when you lose him, you lose a lot. Now
- 1:28Speaker 1: the Guardians have Gabriel Arias, he's coming back to the team,
- 1:33Speaker 1: he has been injured. He'll play third base for them.
- 1:35Speaker 1: They've got Rokio at second, Bazana I'm sorry, Rokio at
- 1:38Speaker 1: short Bazana at second they'll be okay. And of course
- 1:42Speaker 1: they're going to pitch because they pitch really well. But
- 1:45Speaker 1: clearly this is a loss for them. And it's interesting.
- 1:49Speaker 1: With the Hammai fractors, we've seen varying recoveries. Now, generally speaking,
- 1:54Speaker 1: players recover pretty well from this. Corbyn, Carroll, Francisco Lindor,
- 1:58Speaker 1: Jackson Holliday. Those are the three guys remember who had
- 2:01Speaker 1: this injury at the start of spring training had the surgery.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Carol recovered great. He is fifth in the major leagues
- 2:09Speaker 1: in f war right now. He's one of the best
- 2:11Speaker 1: players in the league. Lindor recovered okay, and then of
- 2:15Speaker 1: course suffered the left calf strain, so he's still been out,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and then you've got Jackson Holliday, who is a young
- 2:21Speaker 1: player who had struggled before and continues to struggle. He
- 2:24Speaker 1: took a long time, longer time to recover from the
- 2:28Speaker 1: surgery than the other two did. And I don't know
- 2:31Speaker 1: that it's the risk that's bothering him so much or
- 2:33Speaker 1: a hand as much as just him getting adapted still
- 2:37Speaker 1: to the major league. So the Guardians are going to
- 2:40Speaker 1: be challenged here, There's no question about it. Ramirez had
- 2:44Speaker 1: struggled in May. He had an eight to forty nine
- 2:47Speaker 1: ops in June, so he was coming around for sure.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And the good news, if you want to call it
- 2:53Speaker 1: that for the Guardians is that they've been here before.
- 2:56Speaker 1: If you remember last season, they lost Shane Bieber at
- 2:59Speaker 1: the start of the sea into Tommy john surgery. Shane
- 3:02Speaker 1: Bieber was going to be their ace, and then Emmanuel
- 3:06Speaker 1: Classe and Luis Ortiz, they are guys that were investigated
- 3:12Speaker 1: thats suspended by Major League Baseball early. Well, I'm sorry
- 3:17Speaker 1: in July, and let me get this straight. I got
- 3:19Speaker 1: the whole sequence wrong here. Bieber was coming back from
- 3:22Speaker 1: Tommy Johnson, he was out at the start of the season.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Eventually came back and was traded to the Blue Jays.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Classe and Louis Ortiz their investigation into the gambling that
- 3:34Speaker 1: happened in July. So they lost all these guys. They
- 3:37Speaker 1: eventually traded Bieber lost, Ortiz lost, Classe, their great closer.
- 3:42Speaker 1: And what do they do. They rallied from a fifteen
- 3:46Speaker 1: and a half game deficit to win the Al Central.
- 3:49Speaker 1: So the Guardians, by no means are done here. Excuse
- 3:53Speaker 1: me one second. They're gonna be okay. And in that division,
- 4:00Speaker 1: it's a weak division relatively speaking, but it's a better
- 4:03Speaker 1: division than it's been in the past. And one reason
- 4:06Speaker 1: it's better is the Chicago White Sox. And you can say, well,
- 4:10Speaker 1: can't wait a second. The rest of the division still stinks.
- 4:13Speaker 1: A Minnesota's played pretty well. Detroit with Schooble now we'll
- 4:16Speaker 1: get to them in a second. And then you have,
- 4:19Speaker 1: of course Kansas City, who has struggled. But the division
- 4:24Speaker 1: with the White Sox coming on now is going to
- 4:26Speaker 1: get a little interesting. And we'll see what happens with
- 4:29Speaker 1: the Tigers. Now. The Tigers had Schooball come back this weekend,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and yet they still lost two to the Guardians before
- 4:35Speaker 1: the rain out on Sunday, and even with Schoobul back,
- 4:40Speaker 1: there's still thirteen games under five hundred. They are still
- 4:45Speaker 1: six out in the wild Card. They are still in
- 4:48Speaker 1: a position where they have the third worst record in
- 4:51Speaker 1: the American League, ahead of only Kansas City and the Angels.
- 4:55Speaker 1: So my expectation remains that Schooble will be traded and
- 4:59Speaker 1: we will see over the next six weeks how he performs,
- 5:02Speaker 1: and how the Tigers performed too, and how it all
- 5:05Speaker 1: shakes out. But as I wrote a couple of weeks ago,
- 5:09Speaker 1: when they were sixteen under, it's a big hole to
- 5:12Speaker 1: climb out of, even in a mediocre Ale Central, even
- 5:16Speaker 1: in a mediocre American League. So we'll see how it
- 5:20Speaker 1: plays out. As I said, Schooba looked okay on Saturday
- 5:25Speaker 1: four and two thirds innings. He gave up the two
- 5:27Speaker 1: run homer to Daniel Schneman, but otherwise was pretty good.
- 5:30Speaker 1: His stuff was there. Looks like he's going to be
- 5:33Speaker 1: fine coming off that nano needle surgery. Will the Tigers
- 5:36Speaker 1: be fine? That remains to be seen. My guess is no.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And then there are the White Sox, and I don't
- 5:42Speaker 1: know that honestly, we can talk enough about what the
- 5:45Speaker 1: White Sox are doing. It's an amazing thing that has
- 5:48Speaker 1: happened here, the turnaround of this franchise. This week or
- 5:52Speaker 1: the past week. They won two straight from Atlanta before
- 5:55Speaker 1: a postponement, and then they won two of three from
- 5:57Speaker 1: the Los Angeles Dodgers at home for in one home stand.
- 6:02Speaker 1: They're now twenty and four in their last twenty four
- 6:05Speaker 1: games at home. They are eight and five without Monetaka Morikami.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Remember he went down. People thought, eh, their offense might
- 6:12Speaker 1: struggle seventh in the majors in runs per game. Their
- 6:16Speaker 1: offense has continued to be really good. And yeah, they're
- 6:20Speaker 1: gonna need some help at the deadline. They're gonna need
- 6:22Speaker 1: some pitching help if they're going to stay in this thing.
- 6:25Speaker 1: And they are a rebuilding club still, so I don't
- 6:28Speaker 1: expect them to go crazy, as I have said earlier.
- 6:31Speaker 1: But the White Sox are much more competitive, and that's
- 6:35Speaker 1: the right word competitive than any of us thought. This
- 6:38Speaker 1: team fights, They've got talent, they hit home runs, they
- 6:41Speaker 1: do a lot of good things. Antanachi is an exciting player.
- 6:45Speaker 1: My drawth all these guys contributing, and it's been a
- 6:49Speaker 1: ton of fun to see them come on like this.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Today's episode is not really sponsored by the hamdmapone, it's
- 6:56Speaker 1: sponsored by Ziggi and a player I love to watch
- 6:59Speaker 1: on the looking forward to watching again this week is
- 7:02Speaker 1: Jacob Misarowski. He's going to be back in the rotation
- 7:05Speaker 1: at some point, They're going to give him an extra day.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And of course Miz is coming off that amazing performance
- 7:10Speaker 1: Friday night fifteen strikeouts, one hit, complete game shutout in Amattox.

- 7:55Speaker 1: can use it later. Thank you, sea Geek. The Washington
- 7:58Speaker 1: Nationals we've talked about. They lead the majors and runs score.
- 8:02Speaker 1: They've been really good. They had the crazy game where
- 8:04Speaker 1: they blew the nine to one lead to the Giants
- 8:06Speaker 1: last week, but they came back won two or three
- 8:09Speaker 1: from Seattle. They've been a pleasant surprise in a rebuilding mode.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And then there are the Miami Marlins, who had I
- 8:16Speaker 1: would say higher expectations this season than the Nationals certainly,
- 8:21Speaker 1: And you remember I had talked about the Marlins quite
- 8:24Speaker 1: a bit. I kind of thought they were ready to
- 8:26Speaker 1: take possibly the next step. They haven't really done that,
- 8:30Speaker 1: and they've had a wave of pitching injuries Uri Perez, Jansen, Junk.
- 8:35Speaker 1: They're out Rob Stelling, Robbie Stelling, I should say, one
- 8:38Speaker 1: of their top prospects. He is going to undergo a
- 8:42Speaker 1: Tommy John surgery. Thomas White, another one of their top
- 8:45Speaker 1: pot pitching prospects, has a shoulder problem. He too, is
- 8:49Speaker 1: likely out for the years. So they've had in just
- 8:52Speaker 1: recent weeks all of these setbacks. They signed Chris Paddock,
- 8:55Speaker 1: he was in their rotation, initially didn't work out. They've
- 8:58Speaker 1: had a ton of things happened against them from an
- 9:01Speaker 1: injury standpoint, a performance standpoint, and yet they've hung in
- 9:06Speaker 1: there of late with bullpen games with Sandy al Contra,
- 9:10Speaker 1: of course, and now with Max Meyer, who is emerging
- 9:14Speaker 1: in a breakout season as one of the game's aces.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Max Meyer has dominated for the Marlins, and he is
- 9:22Speaker 1: a guy who, as you can see right there from
- 9:23Speaker 1: the graphic, has done some pretty special things this season.
- 9:27Speaker 1: He in his last fifteen starts has not where it
- 9:30Speaker 1: actually as fifteen starts this season, has yet to suffer
- 9:33Speaker 1: or a loss. Now one loss record. We know it's
- 9:36Speaker 1: not that meaningful a stat, but you look at him
- 9:39Speaker 1: right there, seven to zero with a two point seventy five.
- 9:41Speaker 1: The whip is good, the strikeouts really good. He's having
- 9:44Speaker 1: a really nice run here, and for a team that
- 9:47Speaker 1: needs him to have a nice run now, al Contra
- 9:51Speaker 1: is a guy that is going to come up in
- 9:52Speaker 1: trade talks. Bob Nightingale reported over the weekend that the
- 9:55Speaker 1: Marlins are all but certain to trade him. I don't
- 9:59Speaker 1: hear it necessarily the same way I hear they've been
- 10:01Speaker 1: resistant in the past and might not be as open
- 10:05Speaker 1: to it even this deadline as we would think they
- 10:07Speaker 1: would be. I'm sure they listen, but we'll see where
- 10:10Speaker 1: they are in the race and how they are playing
- 10:13Speaker 1: at the time. Right now, they've won four straight series
- 10:18Speaker 1: against Washington, Tampa, Bay, Arizona, and Pittsburgh. They're back to
- 10:23Speaker 1: five hundred. No one would call them a threat to
- 10:26Speaker 1: the Dodgers per se. But at the same time, they
- 10:30Speaker 1: went into this season hoping to be a better team,
- 10:33Speaker 1: hoping to take another step in their process going forward,
- 10:38Speaker 1: trying to become a contender. They even with the pitching
- 10:41Speaker 1: problems that they have, are right now on their way
- 10:46Speaker 1: to being in a better place. As I said, so
- 10:54Speaker 1: this week I wrote about, actually today I wrote about
- 10:57Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Affillies and their managerial change from Rob Thompson
- 11:02Speaker 1: to Don Mattingly. That's going to be the topic of
- 11:05Speaker 1: the Inside Dish today. And the Inside Dish, of course,
- 11:08Speaker 1: is a segment where I talk about a story I've written,
- 11:10Speaker 1: which i'll do today, trend in the game, which I
- 11:13Speaker 1: sometimes do, or something else entirely, which I rarely do,
- 11:17Speaker 1: but I always talk about possibly doing. But the Phillies
- 11:19Speaker 1: managerial situation is an interesting one, and I must preface
- 11:24Speaker 1: this by saying it's kind of dangerous for me to
- 11:28Speaker 1: write about the Phillies and their managers based on what
- 11:31Speaker 1: happened last time I did that when I wrote they
- 11:34Speaker 1: should not have traded or sorry, far fired Joe Girardi.
- 11:38Speaker 1: And of course they fired Joe Girardi. It proved to
- 11:40Speaker 1: be the right move, and then I had to write
- 11:43Speaker 1: this column. Okay, Phillies fans, I will say it, I
- 11:46Speaker 1: was wrong. This was after repeated assault on social media
- 11:50Speaker 1: from Phillies fans saying can you idiot? And let's face it,
- 11:54Speaker 1: they were right. They were absolutely right. Now this managerial
- 11:58Speaker 1: change is a little different than the last one, and
- 12:01Speaker 1: we'll get into it now. So far, going from Rob
- 12:04Speaker 1: Thompson to Don Mattingly has been an unqualified success. There's
- 12:09Speaker 1: no arguing with the result. The team was nine to
- 12:12Speaker 1: nineteen under Rob Thompson. Since then, even after losing two
- 12:16Speaker 1: of three in Milwaukee over the weekend, the Phillies are
- 12:19Speaker 1: twenty nine and fourteen under Don Mattingly. That is the
- 12:22Speaker 1: second best record in the Majors in that span. So
- 12:26Speaker 1: this isn't a situation like the Boston Red Sox, for instance,
- 12:31Speaker 1: who under Alex Cora were ten and seventeen. They fied Cora,
- 12:36Speaker 1: They bring in Chad Tracy and since then they're nineteen
- 12:40Speaker 1: and twenty three and pretty much the same inspired, uninspired team.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Inspired is not the word we've used for the Red Sox,
- 12:47Speaker 1: the same uninspired team that we saw before the change.
- 12:52Speaker 1: But even with the Phillies' success, this one kind of
- 12:56Speaker 1: bothered me in some place. They're kind of stuck in
- 12:58Speaker 1: my crawl a little bit. And I had been waiting
- 13:01Speaker 1: to see the Phillies, which I did over the weekend
- 13:03Speaker 1: for FS one, because I wanted to talk to their players.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I wanted to talk to obviously Don Matteley, and I
- 13:10Speaker 1: wanted to talk to their President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And the firing bothered me in a different way than
- 13:18Speaker 1: Kors did the Coras situation that was just another reflection
- 13:22Speaker 1: of Red Sox chaos. This situation was one in which
- 13:26Speaker 1: the Phillies fired their winningest manager since nineteen hundred, the
- 13:31Speaker 1: guy with the highest winning percentage, and they fired him
- 13:36Speaker 1: because they just were performing poorly. Okay, it was still
- 13:40Speaker 1: really early in the season, it was not yet even May.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And in this situation what bugged me with two things
- 13:47Speaker 1: really one the players, in my opinion, shouldn't need the
- 13:52Speaker 1: wake up call of a managerial change to snap out
- 13:55Speaker 1: of it. And that's what happened here. And the other
- 13:58Speaker 1: thing that was to me curious here is that if
- 14:03Speaker 1: David Dombrowski had waited to make the change, or waited
- 14:06Speaker 1: to give more time to Rob Thompson, it's entirely possible,
- 14:11Speaker 1: maybe even likely, that the Phillies would have had the
- 14:14Speaker 1: same kind of turnaround. Why do I say that. I
- 14:18Speaker 1: say that because at the time of the firing, the
- 14:20Speaker 1: Phillies were coming off thirteen straight games against two really
- 14:25Speaker 1: hot teams, the Cubs and the Braves. Now the Cubs
- 14:28Speaker 1: have since not been as hot, but at the time
- 14:31Speaker 1: they had that ten game winning streak, the first of
- 14:33Speaker 1: their ten game winning streaks. Six of those wins in
- 14:36Speaker 1: the first streak came against the Phillies. The Braves, of course,
- 14:39Speaker 1: at the time, were considered something of an early surprise,
- 14:42Speaker 1: but they continue to have the best record in the Majors.
- 14:45Speaker 1: So in those thirteen games, thirteen consecutive games against those
- 14:49Speaker 1: two teams, the Phillies went too and eleven Okay, they
- 14:54Speaker 1: looked bad. Offense third worst in the Major Leagues, pitching
- 14:59Speaker 1: third world from the Major Leagues, defense not much better,
- 15:02Speaker 1: if at all. So you had a situation where, Okay,
- 15:06Speaker 1: they don't look good, but their schedule was bound to
- 15:10Speaker 1: get better, and in fact, it was going to get
- 15:13Speaker 1: better almost immediately. Now, in that sense, Dombrowski picked the
- 15:18Speaker 1: perfect time to do this, because the schedule was getting better.
- 15:21Speaker 1: The Phillies were beginning a run of twenty two straight
- 15:25Speaker 1: games against teams that currently are five hundred or below.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It was the perfect time for a team to bounce back.
- 15:33Speaker 1: It was also an opportunity if they had stayed with
- 15:36Speaker 1: Rob Thompson, for him to regain the equilibrium of the
- 15:41Speaker 1: club as their leader. Now, as I wrote, Thompson wasn't
- 15:46Speaker 1: perfect here, and the Phillies kind of played with a
- 15:49Speaker 1: lack of urgency in that first month. He managed to
- 15:53Speaker 1: some degree with the lack of urgency, particularly with his
- 15:56Speaker 1: bullpen moves, and you could see why Dave Dombrowski got
- 16:00Speaker 1: a little frustrated here. At the same time, would they
- 16:04Speaker 1: have rallied, would they have rallied the same way? We'll
- 16:08Speaker 1: never know the answer to that. That's the first paragraph
- 16:10Speaker 1: of what I wrote. Now what happened here? Initially Dave
- 16:14Speaker 1: Dombrowski went for Alex Corr. Alex Corr is fired on
- 16:17Speaker 1: a Saturday. He immediately contacts Dombrowski, who is one of
- 16:21Speaker 1: his mentors in the game. They talk. Eventually Dombrowski offers
- 16:25Speaker 1: him the job, he doesn't take it, and what happens
- 16:29Speaker 1: They fired Thompson anyway two days later and bring in Manningly. Now,
- 16:33Speaker 1: Don Manningly is a guy who became their bench coach
- 16:38Speaker 1: this season in kind of a surprising way. He had
- 16:41Speaker 1: stepped away from the Blue Jays after last year where
- 16:44Speaker 1: he was their bench coach, and kind of thought he
- 16:46Speaker 1: was done with baseball. But the Phillies called, felt they
- 16:50Speaker 1: needed a new bench coach, wanted Mattingley to come in
- 16:52Speaker 1: and assist Rob Thompson and Preston Manningly. Don Sun is
- 16:57Speaker 1: the Phillies general mager, so he takes the job. Of course,
- 17:00Speaker 1: baseball beating baseball. Crazy things happened, and now he's the
- 17:03Speaker 1: manager again, probably short term and probably just for this season.
- 17:09Speaker 1: It's very likely or possible, I should say, Alex Cora
- 17:12Speaker 1: will be managing the Phillies next season. But Mattingly came in.
- 17:16Speaker 1: And the difference here from what happened in twenty twenty
- 17:19Speaker 1: two when Joe Girardi was fired as manager and replaced
- 17:23Speaker 1: by Rob Thompson. Is that Matningly's personality, his demeanor with
- 17:28Speaker 1: the players, low key but firm. It's not all that
- 17:31Speaker 1: different from Rob Thompson's. In twenty two it was dramatically
- 17:36Speaker 1: different what happened. Joe Girardi had grown tense, distant from
- 17:40Speaker 1: his players. We later learned this. Actually we could see
- 17:42Speaker 1: it in real time. I missed it. Don Mattingly's style,
- 17:46Speaker 1: as I said, is not much different than Rob Thompsons.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Rob Thompson's style was a lot different than Joe Girardi's.
- 17:53Speaker 1: So Maddingley comes in and yes, the players woke up,
- 17:57Speaker 1: and they woke up, and they've played much better. They
- 18:01Speaker 1: still are not perfect, and it's interesting with the Phillies.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Maybe all's well that ends well here, But they're twenty six.
- 18:09Speaker 1: They're tied for twenty six in the majors in runs
- 18:12Speaker 1: per game. That's scoring. They have an outfield. Even with
- 18:16Speaker 1: Brandon marsh being one of the best hitters in the
- 18:19Speaker 1: major leagues right now, their outfield is one of the
- 18:21Speaker 1: least productive in the Majors. They've now lost a Dolice
- 18:24Speaker 1: Garcia for the season, they're scrambling there. They need more
- 18:27Speaker 1: outfield help. They've got dead money on their roster thirty
- 18:31Speaker 1: five million, little less than that going to Nick Castianos
- 18:35Speaker 1: and Taiwan Walker, so Dombrowski too bears responsibility here. Of course,
- 18:40Speaker 1: no roster is perfect. The Phillies rosters certainly is not perfect.
- 18:45Speaker 1: But say this for the Phillies, at least they've righted
- 18:48Speaker 1: themselves and they're now entering an easy part of their
- 18:51Speaker 1: schedule again, easier part of their schedule, and as jt
- 18:56Speaker 1: real Muto told Jason Stark on his podcast last week,
- 18:59Speaker 1: it is inevitable they were going to play better. Trey
- 19:02Speaker 1: Turner told me the same thing. So the Phillies at
- 19:06Speaker 1: least to some degree, are back, but at least for
- 19:09Speaker 1: Rob Thompson, as I wrote, it happened too late. All right,
- 19:14Speaker 1: we'll be back with Grill and ten after this.

- 20:24Speaker 1: Okay, here we go with Bill and Ken, the part
- 20:26Speaker 1: of the show where you guys get to ask me questions.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Let's get right to them. First one comes from Bubbs
- 20:33Speaker 1: two ninety eight, who asks Ken, who is someone who
- 20:37Speaker 1: you hope gets into the All Star Game that's a
- 20:39Speaker 1: bit of a dark horse but is performing exceptionally. Well,
- 20:43Speaker 1: I'll give you one name. I don't know that this
- 20:46Speaker 1: guy is going to make it because he's coming from
- 20:48Speaker 1: a team that is really good and is going to
- 20:50Speaker 1: have already multiple All Stars. But Jake Bowers of the
- 20:54Speaker 1: Milwaukee Brewers having a monster season, breakout season. He's a
- 20:59Speaker 1: guy who was once a top prospect and then kind
- 21:03Speaker 1: of went three years of struggle and now is emerging
- 21:06Speaker 1: as an absolute force for the Brewers. As emerged as
- 21:10Speaker 1: an absolute force for the Brewers, and he's a guy
- 21:13Speaker 1: who I always kind of root for because, like others
- 21:19Speaker 1: players who struggle, you want to see them succeed. You
- 21:22Speaker 1: want to see guys who have been through it kind
- 21:24Speaker 1: of get to a point where they're playing to their potential.
- 21:27Speaker 1: And Bowers has reached his potential now finally. So he's one.
- 21:31Speaker 1: There are many others. I'm sure we'll get to them.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I'll have an All Star calm as we get closer
- 21:36Speaker 1: to the game with my picks. I'm sure that will
- 21:38Speaker 1: be well received and we'll go from there. All right,
- 21:41Speaker 1: let's get to the next question. This one comes from
- 21:44Speaker 1: Tyler Max Smith, who asks, so maybe you were right
- 21:47Speaker 1: all off season when you said the Braves needed more
- 21:49Speaker 1: starting pitching. Do you think they will add sooner rather
- 21:52Speaker 1: than later or will they wait until the deadline. Okay,
- 21:55Speaker 1: I did write that all off season, and my concern
- 21:58Speaker 1: always was they and they had lost s trolling back
- 22:02Speaker 1: at the time they had had questions about Strider now
- 22:06Speaker 1: is hurt again. They were in a spot where they
- 22:10Speaker 1: were okay, but they probably needed more, and they certainly
- 22:13Speaker 1: need more now. This is a team that could go
- 22:16Speaker 1: really far this postseason if they make it, which they
- 22:20Speaker 1: should and they still have, of course Chris Slee and
- 22:23Speaker 1: Bryce Elder, and they have some really good things going
- 22:27Speaker 1: for them. But yes, I would like to see them
- 22:30Speaker 1: get a starter at the deadline. They are a team
- 22:32Speaker 1: that I'm sure will at least check in on Schooble.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It's not their kind of play. Their farm system is
- 22:38Speaker 1: not all that great. I don't know that they can
- 22:40Speaker 1: get Schooble. They'll have enough to get Schooble if they're
- 22:43Speaker 1: indeed even going down that route for a rental. But
- 22:47Speaker 1: the Braves, certainly, with the state of their rotation right now,
- 22:51Speaker 1: Holmes has been okay, Perez has been a revelation. But yes,
- 22:55Speaker 1: they need more and we'll see if they go get
- 22:58Speaker 1: it right. Next question, this one comes from Joe said
- 23:02Speaker 1: it is true. He's gonna be right. He said it
- 23:04Speaker 1: is true. Joe asked, will we see another socks the
- 23:08Speaker 1: socks trade can perhaps some of Boston's expensive pitching for prospects. Well,
- 23:13Speaker 1: all right, the first socks for socks trade, the one
- 23:15Speaker 1: that I'm sure Joe said it's true is referring to,
- 23:18Speaker 1: is the Crochet trade, which is working out great for
- 23:21Speaker 1: both teams. Now, what he is suggesting here would be
- 23:25Speaker 1: most likely Sonny Gray to the White Sox, and I
- 23:29Speaker 1: guess some young players going back in return of maybe
- 23:31Speaker 1: the White Sox simply taken the contract. Certainly the idea
- 23:38Speaker 1: of adding Sonny Gray would be appealing to the White Sox. Now,
- 23:42Speaker 1: it's a lot of money, it's a kind of a
- 23:44Speaker 1: thing that I don't know that they'd be willing to do.
- 23:47Speaker 1: But we have seen over the years, not just the
- 23:50Speaker 1: Crochet trade, but going back to the Chris Sale trade
- 23:53Speaker 1: between the Socks and the Socks, some good things have
- 23:55Speaker 1: happened between these teams. So yeah, maybe it happens again.
- 23:59Speaker 1: All right, thinking out one more time or time for
- 24:02Speaker 1: one more let's try it here. This one comes from
- 24:05Speaker 1: Zach Sharp, who asked, with the Jose Ramirez injury, do
- 24:07Speaker 1: the White Sox become the favorite in the Ales Central
- 24:10Speaker 1: with the Tigers having played so poorly. I don't know
- 24:14Speaker 1: that I would go that far. And the reason I
- 24:16Speaker 1: say that is Ramirez should be back sometime around the deadline,
- 24:21Speaker 1: maybe a little before, maybe a little after, and at
- 24:24Speaker 1: that point there is just about two months remaining in
- 24:27Speaker 1: the season, so this is not a season ending thing.
- 24:30Speaker 1: If it were and I had a bone, is pretty
- 24:32Speaker 1: clearly usually four to six weeks, et cetera. If it
- 24:36Speaker 1: were a season ending injury, sure, I'd say the White
- 24:38Speaker 1: Sox might be the favorite, But I don't see it
- 24:40Speaker 1: that way just yet. And I'm not sure I see
- 24:43Speaker 1: the White Sox pitching holding up unless they, of course add,
- 24:47Speaker 1: and I think they will be judicious with the way
- 24:49Speaker 1: they go about adding. They're not going to go crazy
- 24:52Speaker 1: and trade prospects for a rental. Big prospects. They may
- 24:56Speaker 1: take on a rental and take on money. I don't
- 24:59Speaker 1: know that I see Jerry after doing that either, but
- 25:01Speaker 1: it's not going to be a situation where they are
- 25:03Speaker 1: the all in team at the deadline. But good for
- 25:06Speaker 1: the White Sox that we're even having this conversation. And
- 25:10Speaker 1: that is it for our show today. I want to
- 25:11Speaker 1: thank everyone for watching and for listening. Foul Territory coming
- 25:15Speaker 1: up at one pm Eastern AJ Prazinski State champion head
- 25:19Speaker 1: coach Eric Kratz we'll learn more about that, and Scott

- 25:26Speaker 1: back Thursday at twelve thirty Eastern. Tuck to you then, everyone,
