- 0:04Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, Welcome back to Vanity Farah with Chris Farah,
- 0:08Speaker 1: a hilarious, dumb also fun kind of like pop culture
- 0:12Speaker 1: recap podcast where I usually talk about television shows, but also,
- 0:16Speaker 1: you know, I love a docu series. I also love
- 0:19Speaker 1: having great friends on my podcast, and so today is
- 0:22Speaker 1: a very special day. It's a great episode. We're talking
- 0:25Speaker 1: reality check. You all asked for this. It's inside America's
- 0:29Speaker 1: Next Top Model. And I have Becky Feldman, who has
- 0:32Speaker 1: been on the podcast or has been on docu Sweety's
- 0:35Speaker 1: before and also is a hilarious actress, improvisor, comic. Very
- 0:40Speaker 1: good friend of mine also has such a great podcast,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and listen if you love a romance novel, are you
- 0:49Speaker 1: like read smut or fairy porn or whatever your thing is,
- 0:52Speaker 1: or you just want like an incredibly fun hang. Too
- 0:56Speaker 1: Stupid to Live is Becky's podcast, and it is joyful
- 1:02Speaker 1: that saw I would describe it. Becky, thank you much
- 1:03Speaker 1: for being here, and Hi, how are you?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Oh my god, thank you for having me. And that
- 1:07Speaker 2: was so sweet, Oh my god, it's like the nicest thing.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Very this was the sweetest introduction.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I think anyone could have introduced me as and your
- 1:15Speaker 2: I love you is my point. You're one of my
- 1:17Speaker 2: favorite guests on the show, and I think, yeah, we
- 1:21Speaker 2: love each other too.
- 1:22Speaker 1: We love each other. We spent so many time togethers. Yeah,
- 1:25Speaker 1: like I remember, like obviously on your podcast we got
- 1:28Speaker 1: to do a recap in the middle of COVID when
- 1:30Speaker 1: there was like the three sixty five d n I
- 1:32Speaker 1: when it was like that weird like BDSM Russian kind
- 1:35Speaker 1: of or whatever pseudo. Yeah, yeah, I love that. You
- 1:40Speaker 1: also not in this episode, but I think about an
- 1:42Speaker 1: episode that you did with our friend Jenny Pearson all
- 1:45Speaker 1: the time, which is the Red ten episode.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Yes, we think about that Red Tent.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I mean we like talk about we talk about Red Tent,
- 1:53Speaker 2: but it was really it was actually a BDSM book
- 1:56Speaker 2: like where like and that was about like Jewish women,
- 1:59Speaker 2: and we kept she kept relating it to the Red Tent,
- 2:02Speaker 2: you know.
- 2:02Speaker 3: And but anyway, that book changed my life.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Like that book, Like I'm like, I like I didn't
- 2:07Speaker 2: even like I was the Anastasia Steele to that book.
- 2:11Speaker 2: It was called Craving Flight if anyone wants to check
- 2:13Speaker 2: it out. Uh, that that showed me what BDSM was,
- 2:18Speaker 2: what it meant.
- 2:18Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah, not that this has anything to do
- 2:22Speaker 1: with America's text top model, but maybe it might. Yeah,
- 2:25Speaker 1: did you how long have I been reading fun romance novels?
- 2:30Speaker 2: I have been reading fun romance novels, like okay, I've
- 2:33Speaker 2: always loved like ya and like reading romances like in school.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I love Jane Eyre, I love Daphi Jumaris, Rebecca and
- 2:42Speaker 2: like obviously I read like Babysitters Club growing up and
- 2:44Speaker 2: Twilight and all that stuff.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Street Were you a fair Street girl?
- 2:47Speaker 3: I did read fear Street. Yeah yeah, I love yeah,
- 2:50Speaker 3: yeah yeah yeah yeah. So I loved all that kind
- 2:53Speaker 3: of stuff I loved.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I like, always loved, like the romantic kind of plot lines.
- 2:56Speaker 2: But in terms of reading, like smoot smoot smut that
- 3:00Speaker 2: came on as an accident. I like, for I was
- 3:05Speaker 2: flying home forgot my book. I was twenty four and
- 3:08Speaker 2: I forgot my I forgot a book to read, so
- 3:10Speaker 2: I was like, I'll buy something.
- 3:10Speaker 3: At the airport.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I saw something with vampires, and I'm like, I really
- 3:13Speaker 2: like Buffy the vampires Layer. I'll just get this, and
- 3:16Speaker 2: then all of a sudden, I am in the sky,
- 3:19Speaker 2: flush as fuck, just like just like it was.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Honestly, I'm like, next to people, and I'm just like that.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I just saw the word nipple and like I had
- 3:29Speaker 2: always read like those one handed reads like that used
- 3:32Speaker 2: to be in the back of like bus magazine, and
- 3:34Speaker 2: of course I would always like google weird ass, you know, erotica.
- 3:37Speaker 2: But I was like, this is a book. These are
- 3:40Speaker 2: pages that were printed, yeah, and stapled together.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I I love that. I used to read Penthouse letters.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, yeah, it's like so interesting. I mean, okay,
- 3:55Speaker 2: but it's interesting like how like like erotica has been
- 3:58Speaker 2: around a lot longer, like you know, just I was
- 4:01Speaker 2: listening to some romance novel podcasts literally yesterday, and it
- 4:04Speaker 2: was just like people used to write like erotic letters
- 4:06Speaker 2: to each other and like the whatevers, and it's like
- 4:09Speaker 2: it's been around. Smut has been around longer than than
- 4:12Speaker 2: the twenty twenty.
- 4:15Speaker 1: You don't get that anymore. You just get dick pics.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I know. And it's like, oh my god, to get
- 4:20Speaker 2: like a poem from a man who probably has tuberculosis,
- 4:23Speaker 2: no big deal, but like to get like it. But
- 4:25Speaker 2: he's like describing how sexy you are using like good penmanship.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yes, if he used like five letter words to describe
- 4:33Speaker 1: my beauty I could get over. Every time he coughed
- 4:37Speaker 1: there was a little more blood and then handkerchief every time.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Absolutely I would care for him until the end, you know,
- 4:44Speaker 2: three months from now. Yes, I mean, and that's another thing.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Is a relationship real Sure you don't really have to
- 4:49Speaker 2: give effect me.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Oh, I know, but it's true.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I know. I'm sorry, I'm making really insensitive tuberculosis jokes.
- 4:56Speaker 1: No, I like it. Here's the thing. This all relates
- 4:58Speaker 1: to the fact that we went to go see Wuthering
- 5:00Speaker 1: Heights together, which you know, she didn't die of tuberculosis.
- 5:05Speaker 1: She died of sepsis.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Uh, Honestly, like I'm just like old timey, like I
- 5:11Speaker 2: I guess it was sepsis but didn't. But but Emily
- 5:17Speaker 2: Bronte died of tuberculosis, like they all died of tuberculosis.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I think, yeah, you know, just being like not being
- 5:24Speaker 2: in the eighteen hundreds, and like I also think that.
- 5:28Speaker 1: This is okay, I'm this is the dumbest thing I'm
- 5:30Speaker 1: possibly going to say. But like cancer always was, right,
- 5:33Speaker 1: we just didn't think about it. Like people died of
- 5:35Speaker 1: cancer and they just we didn't know why they were dying.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Were like old age but it was like probably little
- 5:39Speaker 1: liver cancer, right, yeah, yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I mean you know what's like really interesting is like
- 5:43Speaker 2: I do I do get my history hyper fixations and
- 5:47Speaker 2: like listening to podcasts and about like you know, I
- 5:50Speaker 2: was listening to one about like Louis the eighth or
- 5:52Speaker 2: something and Louis Henry the eighth and just that that
- 5:56Speaker 2: through there was something called like sweating sickness, Like there
- 5:59Speaker 2: was just all these they would just like describe these
- 6:02Speaker 2: like different things of like what what people weren't which
- 6:05Speaker 2: is fevers or something we don't know, yeah yeah, yeah,
- 6:09Speaker 2: but there was like this like you know, there would
- 6:10Speaker 2: be these like pandemics and they would just describe like
- 6:13Speaker 2: they would do like symptom and then the sickness of it.
- 6:16Speaker 2: So it's just like sweating sickness, sleeping sickness, This sickness
- 6:19Speaker 2: that is like anic fatigue. I don't just like probably yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 2: tired sickness, like it was just always exhaustion or like
- 6:26Speaker 2: why I mean we still have that. But it is
- 6:28Speaker 2: like really interesting, like I hit my thing by accident.
- 6:32Speaker 2: It is really interesting, like like you know, yeah, like
- 6:36Speaker 2: it's cancer and all these things like especially like even
- 6:40Speaker 2: like modern day things that like we are discovering within ourselves,
- 6:43Speaker 2: whether it's like a chronic thing, you know, like that
- 6:46Speaker 2: existed back then too, we just didn't have a name
- 6:48Speaker 2: for it.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Did not have a name for it, yea, And things
- 6:51Speaker 1: evolve and looking back, it's not a good look, which
- 6:55Speaker 1: brings us to this topic. But also, yeah, full circle
- 7:00Speaker 1: America's Next Top Model. Now, you also listened to a
- 7:04Speaker 1: podcast that deep dived a lot more than this docu
- 7:08Speaker 1: series and was so just tell me, tell me what
- 7:10Speaker 1: that is podcast too, you'll be referencing it.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Yes, So the podcast is called Curse of and it's
- 7:16Speaker 2: the first season is Curse of American America's Next Top Model.
- 7:19Speaker 2: And then I'm imagining that like there'll be like Curse
- 7:22Speaker 2: of X y Z you know in future uh, like
- 7:27Speaker 2: you know, renditions of it. I do believe that the
- 7:29Speaker 2: host is participating in an e docuseries about America's Next
- 7:34Speaker 2: Top Model that's coming out soon that I think it's
- 7:36Speaker 2: like it feels like it's in response to this one.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I'm not sure, but.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Another America's Next Top Model docu series, like in the
- 7:45Speaker 1: two Fry Festival docu series.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I think so.
- 7:47Speaker 2: But let me just say that this compared to that
- 7:50Speaker 2: podcast and what we watched on the Netflix documentary. The
- 7:56Speaker 2: podcast was there were things that were astound to me
- 8:00Speaker 2: in terms of things making my jaw drop along the
- 8:03Speaker 2: lines of watching like a cult documentary of like crazy
- 8:07Speaker 2: things that happened and people being taken advantage of versus
- 8:11Speaker 2: what Netflix showed, which just just compared to like the
- 8:15Speaker 2: detail that that podcast went into, like Netflix like only
- 8:19Speaker 2: like grazed the surface and you know kind of people
- 8:24Speaker 2: weren't being held accountable obviously, you know, as much as
- 8:27Speaker 2: they should be. And then upon listening to this podcast,
- 8:30Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my god, did is is Tyra Bank's
- 8:33Speaker 2: a cult leader?
- 8:34Speaker 1: Like she wants to be or she wants to be? Yeah?
- 8:39Speaker 1: Yeah she did and she fail? Yeah. I mean if
- 8:42Speaker 1: this just goes great, Okay, one more question before we
- 8:44Speaker 1: actually get in this. Obviously you watched it, right, like
- 8:47Speaker 1: and how much like what was your I just wanted
- 8:48Speaker 1: to like, what is your status with America Sex top Model?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Like how hardcore were you like in up until what point?
- 8:55Speaker 1: And like who's your favorite or like yeah, what was
- 8:57Speaker 1: your experience of it?
- 8:59Speaker 3: Right?
- 8:59Speaker 2: So I this is why I'm also very glad to
- 9:02Speaker 2: be on the show. With you, because I feel like
- 9:05Speaker 2: when it came out, it was.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Like we had all of it.
- 9:08Speaker 2: We were just graduated high school and we like just
- 9:11Speaker 2: learned like, oh, you can be confident in our bodies.
- 9:14Speaker 2: And then all of a sudden, you see this on
- 9:16Speaker 2: TV and you see all the body shaming and all
- 9:19Speaker 2: of these like crazy things happening and and and things
- 9:22Speaker 2: that would not fly today. And I think that like
- 9:27Speaker 2: when it came I watched it. When it came came out,
- 9:30Speaker 2: I had my Hollywood dreams, of course, you know, but
- 9:34Speaker 2: like and not that I wanted to be a model,
- 9:36Speaker 2: but just like in terms of like, oh, how you
- 9:39Speaker 2: should look, you know, things like like I like, I
- 9:44Speaker 2: don't know, like watching TV or like watching something and
- 9:47Speaker 2: seeing like someone get like pushed off the stage, like
- 9:49Speaker 2: that was funny, but then like, oh that now that
- 9:52Speaker 2: person has like a scar forever, you know what I mean.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Like you're just like watching it, thinking you're watching something
- 9:57Speaker 2: that's like what maybe the industry is really like at
- 10:01Speaker 2: your most vulnerable.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Like I feel like.
- 10:04Speaker 2: When you're in your twenties, you're still kind of recovering
- 10:07Speaker 2: from being in your teens. And that's when I watched it,
- 10:10Speaker 2: and I think I'm curious if there's a lot of
- 10:13Speaker 2: millennial women who maybe have a lot of like not insecurities,
- 10:16Speaker 2: but just like certain things that kind of stick with them.
- 10:19Speaker 2: That maybe was kind of like mentioned in American Sex
- 10:24Speaker 2: Top Model. Maybe the seed of it was there because
- 10:26Speaker 2: when I was watching it, I was thinking a lot
- 10:28Speaker 2: about when I was younger and all of everything I
- 10:30Speaker 2: was self conscious of, you know what I mean?
- 10:32Speaker 3: Yeah, you know.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, It's funny because the modeling world and like the
- 10:37Speaker 1: dancing world can have like somewhat similarities. Obviously a hyper
- 10:40Speaker 1: focus on body literally, like the way you look like
- 10:44Speaker 1: is important for various reasons, like you get you know,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and so it's a dual edge sort of having to
- 10:51Speaker 1: really unfortunately be aware of it if you want to
- 10:54Speaker 1: work because in other realms, right like unfortunately, people would
- 10:59Speaker 1: tell me when I was in the nineties, in order
- 11:01Speaker 1: to be an actor you had to look a certain way.
- 11:02Speaker 1: But I just assumed that not really, because there were
- 11:04Speaker 1: all like character actors, and I always wanted to be
- 11:06Speaker 1: like the person that was like Adelaide and guys and dolls,
- 11:08Speaker 1: and that person be a little chubby.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, I always wanted to be like Janine and Ghostbusters.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I was like, I'll answer the phone.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yeah that's what I was like. Oh yeah, let Nicole
- 11:19Speaker 1: Kidman do the col baby, Yeah, be her funny, sassy
- 11:22Speaker 1: best friend.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Yeah yeah.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Loss of wine, being like I wouldn't.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Ye want mine just out of nowhere?
- 11:30Speaker 1: Yeah that's enough one day. I mean, I figured, if
- 11:34Speaker 1: you pay me like sad, right, and I get like,
- 11:37Speaker 1: you know, I get to work, you know, one week
- 11:40Speaker 1: a month, that's fine.
- 11:42Speaker 2: That's all we want, Hollywood. It's all we want and
- 11:44Speaker 2: all we deserve. And we never even had that me neither.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Oh god. Yeah, yeah, I also watched it. I also
- 11:53Speaker 1: wanted to be a model, not as much as I
- 11:55Speaker 1: want to be an actor. I just like fantasized about
- 11:57Speaker 1: being a model. I was just you know, I had
- 12:00Speaker 1: I was always a little bit too big for such things.
- 12:05Speaker 1: But yeah, I also watched it. So basically we start
- 12:09Speaker 1: and the docuseries is very much you know, obviously not
- 12:14Speaker 1: produced by Tyra Banks, Like if you didn't know, it's
- 12:18Speaker 1: you know it like almost immediately because it starts with
- 12:22Speaker 1: like a bunch of the I'm rooting for you seen
- 12:25Speaker 1: into memes and then it kind of sits down with
- 12:28Speaker 1: like Tyra's interview and the way that she sits down
- 12:31Speaker 1: isn't someone that's like, I'm running the show. I look good,
- 12:35Speaker 1: I feel comfortable in the situation. She comes in with
- 12:38Speaker 1: a trench coat as if she's Carmen san Diego having
- 12:42Speaker 1: been on the fucking run, and then they just hauled
- 12:45Speaker 1: her in with a birdberry trench coat on, and she's like,
- 12:48Speaker 1: well I'm here.
- 12:49Speaker 2: It felt like she's like I'll stop by, do you
- 12:52Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like I'll stop by and do
- 12:55Speaker 2: these long like talking heads. Like it was just like hey,
- 12:58Speaker 2: I'm gonna keep my car running, or like I'm double
- 13:01Speaker 2: part to just answer the questions and then I'll say,
- 13:03Speaker 2: I'll say the truth and then I'll leave.
- 13:05Speaker 3: There was something very like I'm doing.
- 13:07Speaker 2: You a favor and not saying but not like really
- 13:10Speaker 2: delving deep.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Yes, her word choices are very specific. Did you know
- 13:18Speaker 1: that she is living in Australia or did you know
- 13:21Speaker 1: that she was getting into the hot ice cream market?
- 13:24Speaker 2: I did not know those two things. And and yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 2: I guess she is. Now she's bonker. I mean like
- 13:32Speaker 2: she's yeah, yeah, she's bonkers. She's a bumkers woman. Yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 2: I could say bonkers yeah.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, she has a personality disorder for sure. You know,
- 13:43Speaker 1: like she doesn't seem like that kind of just like
- 13:45Speaker 1: a disconnect for how people she's treated others. It's it
- 13:50Speaker 1: doesn't seem to have a lot of empathy for her.
- 13:52Speaker 1: She doesn't and yeah, a lot offensive.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Totally, And like that's why I feel like it's she
- 13:59Speaker 2: seems so in line with like a like the Nexium
- 14:03Speaker 2: guy or something, you know, like kind of just like
- 14:06Speaker 2: just having these like blinders and just like willing to
- 14:08Speaker 2: take advantage of people. And like and I'm in no
- 14:11Speaker 2: way saying she's remotely like committing the crimes that he did,
- 14:16Speaker 2: but like there's just something where you're in like this
- 14:18Speaker 2: bubble and everyone's like bowing down to you, and you
- 14:21Speaker 2: think you can do this, and you think you can
- 14:23Speaker 2: do that, and you're not really like understanding the consequences
- 14:26Speaker 2: of your actions and and you're kind and also like
- 14:29Speaker 2: you're kind of thriving on the power that you have
- 14:32Speaker 2: from it, you know.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean yes, So basically we know. America's
- 14:41Speaker 1: Next Top Model is a reality show that started in
- 14:44Speaker 1: the aughts. I mean so specifically aughts. It's the most
- 14:47Speaker 1: at kind of show on, and we also know that
- 14:52Speaker 1: twenty years later in COVID people started also watching it.
- 14:56Speaker 1: And now that since we mean you have been alive
- 14:59Speaker 1: the whole time, we realized that people were like, oh,
- 15:03Speaker 1: this show is fucking crazy and she's a monster, that
- 15:06Speaker 1: Tyra like what she had people do, and then it
- 15:10Speaker 1: kind of like from there we realized this is why
- 15:13Speaker 1: people were doing this documentary because there was obviously row
- 15:16Speaker 1: about it, and somehow they got Tyre to say, yes,
- 15:20Speaker 1: Now here's the thing. Do you think, who do they
- 15:25Speaker 1: pay to be part of this documentary? Like obviously old
- 15:27Speaker 1: documentary style rules that you paid no one, but you
- 15:29Speaker 1: can't get people for nothing. So I'm assuming that they
- 15:32Speaker 1: paid all the j's, Nigel and Tyra, but I don't
- 15:37Speaker 1: know if they paid the models.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's interesting, like I feel like maybe they got
- 15:41Speaker 2: some sort of payment, But do you want to hear
- 15:43Speaker 2: something that might just like color which has colored it
- 15:48Speaker 2: for me, which is during the rain when top model
- 15:52Speaker 2: was on, those models weren't getting paid. All they got
- 15:55Speaker 2: was a per DM and it would be like forty
- 15:58Speaker 2: bucks a day, and this is what they're making and
- 16:00Speaker 2: they are on set all day and that's and they're
- 16:03Speaker 2: using that to like buy lunch and buy dinner. And
- 16:06Speaker 2: so that's another reason why it feels so cult like
- 16:08Speaker 2: because I'm like, they must have been so hungry, not
- 16:10Speaker 2: only that, but just not being paid and doing.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Like a lot of unpaid labor in a way, you know.
- 16:15Speaker 2: And so I think, like I have a feeling that
- 16:18Speaker 2: hopefully I hope the models were paid, but I in
- 16:23Speaker 2: this rendition of it.
- 16:24Speaker 3: But yeah, who knows. I think they I think they
- 16:27Speaker 3: had to get their story out.
- 16:28Speaker 2: They had too, no matter who's like kind of making
- 16:32Speaker 2: the message. Like they needed a model on there, you
- 16:35Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like they needed a talking head
- 16:36Speaker 2: that wasn't the people in charge.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's interesting to see who they get, you know,
- 16:42Speaker 1: like and we'll get into it. So basically, as we know,
- 16:46Speaker 1: two thousands were kind of like you're in. The early
- 16:49Speaker 1: two thousands were low key, kind of back at it.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Now it's fit is in, you know, like it's that
- 16:54Speaker 1: it was, and you know, we went through a whole
- 16:56Speaker 1: body lovely positivity movement and then it does feel like
- 17:00Speaker 1: you know, Ozipic happened in the favor. Yeah, so you know,
- 17:04Speaker 1: there's the pendulum goes back and forth and trends go,
- 17:06Speaker 1: you know, come and come and go. But obviously Tyra
- 17:09Speaker 1: Banks is known and was known, and I remember before
- 17:14Speaker 1: her show very much knowing who she was, because I want,
- 17:16Speaker 1: I loved modeling, I loved fashion as being like one
- 17:21Speaker 1: of the top seven biggest model names of the nineties.
- 17:25Speaker 1: It's her Naomi, It's Cindy, it's you know, Linda Vagelista,
- 17:28Speaker 1: It's Claudia Scheffer Schiffer. It's like, you know, it's like
- 17:32Speaker 1: what it's there's more, but like yeah, it's She's a
- 17:36Speaker 1: huge name, and she's absolutely gorgeous, and she is known for,
- 17:41Speaker 1: you know, being a kind of a fun model, like
- 17:45Speaker 1: she had come out with a book already, like before
- 17:48Speaker 1: America's Next Top Model, a book that was kind of
- 17:50Speaker 1: like big sis energy, like I did this and whatnot.
- 17:53Speaker 1: And I remember thinking at the time that it was
- 17:55Speaker 1: a marketed difference from like the other kind of content
- 17:59Speaker 1: that models were putting out, because, for instance, I was
- 18:04Speaker 1: obsessed with Sidey Crawford's workout tape and Sidney Crawford's workout
- 18:07Speaker 1: tape was in black and white and it looked like
- 18:08Speaker 1: a fucking fashion shoot and there was like music was
- 18:11Speaker 1: like seagull and stuff like that. So to have like
- 18:13Speaker 1: Tyra kind of like being like, oh was you know,
- 18:16Speaker 1: let me let me be chill and like accessible in
- 18:20Speaker 1: a book form was was interesting. And I think that
- 18:24Speaker 1: she somewhat now parlayed that into having obviously her agents
- 18:28Speaker 1: were able to get her any pitch beating that she wanted.
- 18:31Speaker 1: And at this time, it's America American Idol, like season one.
- 18:37Speaker 1: You watch American American Idol.
- 18:39Speaker 2: I did watch season one, yeah, and I think like
- 18:43Speaker 2: once like and I remember like when Top Model came out,
- 18:46Speaker 2: like it is it is such a brilliant idea for
- 18:49Speaker 2: the time because like we had, because we had American Idol,
- 18:53Speaker 2: We're watching TV to look at good looking people, you know,
- 18:56Speaker 2: like this is it's an excellent It's an excellent idea
- 18:59Speaker 2: for television.
- 19:00Speaker 3: I know.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Plus Real World it did marry both. It wasn't just
- 19:03Speaker 1: the competition and it was hot and it was like
- 19:06Speaker 1: people like built in stakes. It was also the fact
- 19:09Speaker 1: that they were living together and there would be the
- 19:11Speaker 1: built in drama that you know, because the other big
- 19:13Speaker 1: reality show was Real World that had like you know,
- 19:15Speaker 1: taken over MTV pretty much turned MTV from a music
- 19:19Speaker 1: network into a non Music network.
- 19:21Speaker 3: Mm hmm, that's right.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Yeah, and like we were like loving just like it
- 19:26Speaker 2: had everything like it really did.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Yeah. And it's funny because when Tyra's like, yeah, the
- 19:31Speaker 1: first five networks say no, and I remember specifically, Yeah,
- 19:33Speaker 1: it premiered on UPN. UPM was not a big big network,
- 19:37Speaker 1: you know, like UPM UPN is on. I feel like
- 19:40Speaker 1: UPN was the channel that the WB became.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Yes, I think so, because it used to like it
- 19:46Speaker 2: used to you know, like I think it was like
- 19:48Speaker 2: the WB and UPN fuse together to make the CW
- 19:52Speaker 2: or something like they're the same or something that.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Yes, something like that. Yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Yeah, but it definitely wasn't like ABC or like CB,
- 20:00Speaker 2: you know, like it wasn't like a top network, you know.
- 20:03Speaker 1: No, No, it was like sometimes I think it might
- 20:06Speaker 1: have been like four Black Americans sometimes, but I can't remember,
- 20:10Speaker 1: like and I can't remember it was channel like thirteen
- 20:13Speaker 1: or Channel eight or like it was like something like
- 20:16Speaker 1: but yeah, I it starts UPN. The president of UPN
- 20:22Speaker 1: is a woman named don Ostrof or whatever. So they
- 20:25Speaker 1: start it's like low Budge. The way that she gets
- 20:29Speaker 1: it is she gets Ken Monk on board. He had
- 20:33Speaker 1: done making the band O Town.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yes, which that show problematic people involved, I.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Believe, I for.
- 20:46Speaker 1: You mean the members of that band.
- 20:48Speaker 3: No, the guy who's like the man who.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Lou Perrelman, is that one of the lul aout.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, him, he's a problematic fit man.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I think they've already done the Doku series about him.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so. Yeah, we probably watched it and
- 21:01Speaker 3: talked about it.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, honestly, you know who's probably burying those
- 21:05Speaker 1: docu series is the Backstreet Boy pr people on Like,
- 21:08Speaker 1: I don't think if and I don't think Justin Timberlake
- 21:10Speaker 1: wants to talk about it. No, No, the tour's going
- 21:15Speaker 1: to ruin the tour. I'm so sorry. So basically, the
- 21:18Speaker 1: one thing, so one thing that Ken Monk does that
- 21:21Speaker 1: I think is smart, and especially because you know you
- 21:23Speaker 1: and I are constantly having to think about formatting shows
- 21:27Speaker 1: and pitching shows or whatever, is that the format of
- 21:30Speaker 1: America's Next Top Model is a brilliant format. Now, this
- 21:34Speaker 1: format is for sure a competition format, and to me,
- 21:38Speaker 1: it's basically what RuPaul's drag Race becomes if RuPaul's drag race,
- 21:42Speaker 1: because RuPaul's drag Race is America's Next Top Model mixed
- 21:44Speaker 1: with Project Runway and America's Next Top Model is Real
- 21:48Speaker 1: World and American is Ale together. But basically the format,
- 21:51Speaker 1: he says, is, yeah, you have a little lesson, you
- 21:54Speaker 1: know about about modeling, so it feels like it's a
- 21:57Speaker 1: good thing. And then there's a skill. There's like a
- 22:00Speaker 1: little challenge, like a mini challenge. There's a photo shoot,
- 22:05Speaker 1: and then you know, there's a voting of the picture
- 22:10Speaker 1: and a very dramatic ceremony where Tyra goes over the
- 22:13Speaker 1: pictures derdicates them and then one by one brings the
- 22:16Speaker 1: woman on board and if they have she has her
- 22:18Speaker 1: picture that she gets to move on. And it's like
- 22:21Speaker 1: this format also then feels like The Bachelor, you know,
- 22:25Speaker 1: where there's like the real ceremony.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, absolutely, it is like a lot like that.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, okay, So basically Tyra gets on board the
- 22:38Speaker 4: Jays So j Manuel, he says, is her makeup artist.
- 22:43Speaker 1: And also had been doing makeup for other fashiony things
- 22:46Speaker 1: and was also just like low key her friend that
- 22:49Speaker 1: they would like hang out with in a hotel rooms,
- 22:51Speaker 1: probably in pairs, probably like having drunk and done some
- 22:54Speaker 1: coke and like you know, like giggling on a bed together.
- 22:56Speaker 3: They partied, Yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Now, j Alexander is known as being one of the
- 23:04Speaker 1: top fucking runway coaches and also taught Tyra herself how
- 23:08Speaker 1: to walk when she was sixteen.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Right, yes, so they have like good qualified people that
- 23:16Speaker 2: like already have a rapport with Tyra, which again great
- 23:18Speaker 2: for great for developing a TV show.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Yes, now, spoiler alert, je Manuel's resume is going to
- 23:24Speaker 1: come in contention later, but Jay Alexander's is unpeckable. Okay, yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 1: so you know, obviously they have a show format they have.
- 23:36Speaker 1: You know, Jay Alexander is like fucking a great character.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Jam Manuel's there and we'll say yes anything in Tyra wants,
- 23:42Speaker 1: and she's like very happy about that. And they start
- 23:46Speaker 1: the program and cycle one happens and they show Shannon Stewart,
- 23:52Speaker 1: who's like a Christian virgin blonde contestine. They show Ebony,
- 23:56Speaker 1: who was from Harlem. Now Ebanie Ira members very well
- 24:02Speaker 1: she in the show. When we see her on America
- 24:06Speaker 1: Sex Top Model, she's bald and she's just like very
- 24:10Speaker 1: very young. And she always said this is what she said.
- 24:15Speaker 1: She said she knew her hair, skin was popping, and
- 24:17Speaker 1: she always wanted to be an African princess. That she
- 24:20Speaker 1: grew up in a beauty salon and as a child,
- 24:22Speaker 1: her grandma would say, tell my baby, she's black and beautiful.
- 24:25Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh god, I love that. I love
- 24:27Speaker 1: that fucking so much. Yeah, I'm so happy she had that.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, she yeah.
- 24:35Speaker 1: She's like very like in this day and age, She's like,
- 24:39Speaker 1: I am cool. If you want to talk about me
- 24:40Speaker 1: being gay, I'm gay. I'll put it out there. You know.
- 24:42Speaker 1: She's like, she is like unabashedly herself and makes me
- 24:46Speaker 1: really really happy. Tyra on the same on this on
- 24:48Speaker 1: the you know, on the other hand, is like I
- 24:50Speaker 1: get to wear my favorite brown cat suit that looks
- 24:53Speaker 1: like it's like ten dollars, and she's like, I'm going
- 24:56Speaker 1: to change their lives today. She goes on to to
- 25:00Speaker 1: say this like story where she's like, let me tell you,
- 25:05Speaker 1: I did this show because I knew what it was
- 25:07Speaker 1: like out there, and I had a chance to change
- 25:11Speaker 1: the industry, and I wanted to make sure that girls
- 25:14Speaker 1: that weren't going to be given a chance because of
- 25:16Speaker 1: the color of their skin or their weight. I was
- 25:18Speaker 1: going to make sure that we got in there, and
- 25:21Speaker 1: so I went up to the president at the time,
- 25:24Speaker 1: this stupid asshole name less Moonvez. Ever heard of him? Yeah,
- 25:30Speaker 1: I know, I love it so much. And at the
- 25:33Speaker 1: final casting because he didn't want a Latina girl, and
- 25:35Speaker 1: I'll tell you it almost got physical.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, yeah, she really likes It's It's interesting
- 25:41Speaker 2: because I think, like something well good theme that like
- 25:44Speaker 2: you see is that like she Tyra Byanks is like
- 25:47Speaker 2: saying like I'm here to change the world.
- 25:48Speaker 3: I'm here to just rup da da da.
- 25:50Speaker 2: But then she goes completely against her word once the
- 25:53Speaker 2: show gets started, you know what I mean, Like, yeah,
- 25:56Speaker 2: it was like even season one, you know, she's doing
- 25:59Speaker 2: things that are like really detrimental based on stereotypes and
- 26:02Speaker 2: like body image stuff, and like she's like undoing what
- 26:06Speaker 2: she pitched in a way.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Interesting because I remember when Giannis Stick and Sing came on,
- 26:12Speaker 1: and I remember the vibe being like they're not friends
- 26:17Speaker 1: in real life and they're surely fighting like POV on
- 26:21Speaker 1: this show. And I didn't understand, Like I almost wanted
- 26:24Speaker 1: Ken Monk to be like, yeah, Tyro did not want her,
- 26:26Speaker 1: but yeah I saw.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Power or we did.
- 26:28Speaker 1: We needed a mean person or they needed a Simon
- 26:30Speaker 1: Cowell or something like that.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's what it was.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Like.
- 26:33Speaker 2: I think at the time, like people were like really
- 26:35Speaker 2: obsessed with like mean talkers, you know what I mean.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Like we had Judge Judy, we had Simon Cowell, we
- 26:40Speaker 2: had like all of these like kind of like whips
- 26:42Speaker 2: smart like don't give a shit kind of kind of talkers.
- 26:46Speaker 2: And then also I think like she kept saying she
- 26:49Speaker 2: was the first supermodel, the first supermodel, like or high
- 26:53Speaker 2: fashion supermodel, and so it's like, oh, we have not
- 26:56Speaker 2: only do we have Tyra, but we have like a
- 26:57Speaker 2: regal like you know, fashion and royalty here who is
- 27:01Speaker 2: also but she also like says what's on her mind
- 27:04Speaker 2: and like and we all are just like yeah.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. It's so funny because if I remember correctly,
- 27:13Speaker 1: I don't think that she ever really gets any other
- 27:15Speaker 1: major model to be on her show. Maybe Paulina Posakova,
- 27:20Speaker 1: maybe in letters. I can't remember she was a judge
- 27:22Speaker 1: on this or later cycles, but I don't remember her
- 27:25Speaker 1: ever having like anyone I said earlier, no one from
- 27:27Speaker 1: her like nineties supermodel lore, like anyone that you know
- 27:32Speaker 1: invested with her in the Fashion Cafe, and remember that
- 27:35Speaker 1: there was a version of Hard Rock Cafe and Plant
- 27:38Speaker 1: Hollywood from models, and I went to it.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Mm hmm because they, of course, yeah we have to.
- 27:43Speaker 2: What's interesting is like the podcast like makes obviously like
- 27:46Speaker 2: emphasizes a big point that I don't think is emphasized
- 27:49Speaker 2: in this series enough. Is how blacklisted and how no
- 27:54Speaker 2: one in the modeling industry took America's Next Top Model seriously,
- 28:00Speaker 2: no one wanted to be involved, and so like I'm
- 28:04Speaker 2: curious if maybe that's why, like she couldn't probably bring
- 28:07Speaker 2: in her friends or whatever, because it was like perhaps
- 28:10Speaker 2: like embarrassing or something, because like all of the agencies
- 28:15Speaker 2: thought that, like I don't know, to just reality show
- 28:17Speaker 2: what reality TV wasn't what it is today. You know,
- 28:21Speaker 2: none of these people were like good gets, you know,
- 28:24Speaker 2: that's at least what the agencies thought. So there was
- 28:26Speaker 2: like this huge there was a huge stigma against it,
- 28:30Speaker 2: and I I'm imagining it's probably on like multiple ends,
- 28:34Speaker 2: whether it's being a contestant, working on crew, being a guest,
- 28:38Speaker 2: you know, like any of those things.
- 28:39Speaker 1: I get that, yeah, yeah, yeah, uh So being back
- 28:43Speaker 1: in the tour, there's sometimes people are like, oh, being
- 28:45Speaker 1: on dating apps is like you know, you know, like
- 28:48Speaker 1: a bad stigma. But also yeah, being on reality shows
- 28:51Speaker 1: it was supposed to be a bad stigma. And yet
- 28:52Speaker 1: at the same time people get married off dating apps
- 28:55Speaker 1: that people become the highest paid reality Sorry, well the
- 29:00Speaker 1: same The highest paid model of all time is a
- 29:03Speaker 1: reality show start now exactly.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, And it's like they have what we want.
- 29:08Speaker 2: They're gaining what we want, you know, like you you
- 29:10Speaker 2: want to find love and you want to be rich,
- 29:13Speaker 2: and like these these people are doing the the way
- 29:16Speaker 2: to do it, you know, and yeah, it's easy, easy
- 29:19Speaker 2: to get.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Have you ever taken walking lessons or like modeling lessons?
- 29:23Speaker 4: No?
- 29:23Speaker 3: I did.
- 29:24Speaker 2: This is very weird, but I you know, of course
- 29:26Speaker 2: studied clowning when I was in college as a major,
- 29:29Speaker 2: and we had to learn how to walk on stilts.
- 29:32Speaker 2: And they were like, in order to learn how to
- 29:33Speaker 2: walk on stilts, you have to learn how to walk
- 29:35Speaker 2: like a model. So we did like model like the
- 29:37Speaker 2: model strut of like having to like shift your weight
- 29:40Speaker 2: back and forth, because I think when you walk on stilts,
- 29:43Speaker 2: it's like kind of what they do.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I've never walked on stilts. Can you still do it.
- 29:48Speaker 3: Still, I can't believe I did it. Then, Like I like,
- 29:52Speaker 3: I cannot believe I did it.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Like it was just like some weird thing that I like,
- 29:56Speaker 2: you have to do it or else you won't pass.
- 29:58Speaker 1: So I was like, Okay, oh my god, this is
- 30:01Speaker 1: spilt Final. She has a stilt final tonight.
- 30:03Speaker 2: I did so bad on the stilt Final too. I
- 30:05Speaker 2: think about it all the time. They didn't have stilts
- 30:09Speaker 2: that like fit me because I was so little, so
- 30:10Speaker 2: I had to use.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Like the kids stilts. Becky, I had the baby skilts.
- 30:18Speaker 3: May still so that's so cute.
- 30:20Speaker 1: It's adorable, you know.
- 30:21Speaker 3: I was like, really, kod, I was like, I'm so tall.
- 30:23Speaker 3: I mean, I'm so small.
- 30:24Speaker 1: What a cute cloud?
- 30:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I was, Oh god, I really is cloud. It
- 30:28Speaker 2: was the cutest clown. Yeah, for sure.
- 30:33Speaker 1: So basically, you know, as we know, uh, it's horrible
- 30:37Speaker 1: back then, Jenna Dickinson's horrible, and she's just calling out
- 30:40Speaker 1: people left and right for having too much teeth or
- 30:44Speaker 1: looking like child prostitution or you know, someone's diet being whatever.
- 30:48Speaker 1: And then like you just also have just absolute scenes
- 30:53Speaker 1: of a trainer being there, like all right, can you
- 30:55Speaker 1: just go ahead and step on the scale and while
- 30:57Speaker 1: you're stepping on the scale, I'm going to measure your waist.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Me and and you're then they're like taking it in
- 31:03Speaker 2: and like there are things that are happening on this show,
- 31:06Speaker 2: not even just like this first season, but throughout the
- 31:08Speaker 2: seasons that are like insanely traumatic to happen to anyone
- 31:13Speaker 2: if cameras weren't on them. It's kind of traumatic to watch,
- 31:18Speaker 2: Like not traumatic, but you know, like it'll be like
- 31:23Speaker 2: the ones where it was like, you know, like they
- 31:24Speaker 2: had a plus sized model and they don't have clothes
- 31:27Speaker 2: that fit her right, and it's like, oh, that's like
- 31:31Speaker 2: what a vulnerable moment that like we have all been
- 31:34Speaker 2: there before of like thinking you fit into something and
- 31:37Speaker 2: you don't have it and seeing everyone else you know,
- 31:39Speaker 2: just like just awful, awful moments that that we all
- 31:44Speaker 2: like absorbed, you know what I mean, and not kind
- 31:46Speaker 2: of really acknowledging like this is like this, this is
- 31:50Speaker 2: a terrible way to treat people. I mean, like these models,
- 31:54Speaker 2: like yeah, they were young and they wanted to be
- 31:56Speaker 2: famous and all this stuff, but they were still like paying,
- 31:59Speaker 2: they were there to do a job, and like just
- 32:02Speaker 2: they were just like being completely taken advantage of and
- 32:05Speaker 2: just like being stepped on left and right totally.
- 32:09Speaker 1: And it's funny because I think that some people are like, well, well,
- 32:12Speaker 1: it says what happened she went to the casting or
- 32:14Speaker 1: she went to the casting and these didn't have her size,
- 32:16Speaker 1: and it's like, no, no, no, no, babe, that casting
- 32:19Speaker 1: office is is you know that girl is on a
- 32:23Speaker 1: cast list. She showed up for the shoot today, So
- 32:26Speaker 1: everyone in this room is on like the production list,
- 32:30Speaker 1: having checked in for the ad of America's X Top Model.
- 32:33Speaker 1: She is here for this, So they know Whitney like
- 32:37Speaker 1: they've been knowing Whitney or Tokara, you know, like they
- 32:40Speaker 1: know when he's on the show. This is now the
- 32:42Speaker 1: you know, seventh episode that she's already gone through the makeover,
- 32:45Speaker 1: so like you know what size she is. If you
- 32:48Speaker 1: don't have clothes, it's a choice, And of course, like
- 32:51Speaker 1: you said, it's a choice to set up a situation
- 32:54Speaker 1: that is going to be embarrassing for the sake of
- 32:57Speaker 1: it being embarrassing for that person.
- 33:00Speaker 2: And I think that's what like that this show is
- 33:04Speaker 2: very very like guilty of more so than even like
- 33:10Speaker 2: what we saw on the show of just like psychological
- 33:13Speaker 2: things and you know, like I don't.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Know or like when you say the gun violence thing
- 33:18Speaker 3: is gun violence.
- 33:20Speaker 2: There was one where because there's an episode of where
- 33:25Speaker 2: they talk, there's like psychiatrists who can who interview reality
- 33:29Speaker 2: show contestants to make sure that like mentally they are
- 33:33Speaker 2: able to handle X, Y and Z, like being on
- 33:37Speaker 2: camera all the time. There was like conjecture on this
- 33:40Speaker 2: show that like they were like someone would take a
- 33:43Speaker 2: psychological exam and this the doctor would say, I don't
- 33:47Speaker 2: think that this person should be on the show. You know,
- 33:51Speaker 2: they had suicidal tendencies in the past or something like that.
- 33:54Speaker 2: And then then the people at America's Next Time Model
- 33:57Speaker 2: will be like, Okay, let's get them on the show.
- 34:00Speaker 2: And then we see moments that have become very viral
- 34:02Speaker 2: that we all think about, you know that we all remember,
- 34:05Speaker 2: but it's like at what cost?
- 34:07Speaker 3: At what cost?
- 34:08Speaker 1: Yeah? Absolutely, going back season one happens basically Adrian Curry wins.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Adrian Curry is going to go on to meet fucking
- 34:16Speaker 1: Mary Peter Brady and be in the surreal life and
- 34:18Speaker 1: then be like a weird cosplay person to comic con.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, yeah, And that's another thing.
- 34:23Speaker 2: It's like they were promised modeling careers and they didn't
- 34:25Speaker 2: get them, Like they know, no one worked because people
- 34:28Speaker 2: are like, we don't want to work with reality stars.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Yeah. So on this episode, Ebony, we told you was
- 34:35Speaker 1: from Harlem. I don't know what we've told you. We've
- 34:37Speaker 1: told you this the docu series, and I've told you
- 34:39Speaker 1: that started watching like the first episodes. Good. But you
- 34:43Speaker 1: know she's also like but during the makeover, you know,
- 34:45Speaker 1: they didn't know how to do my fucking hair, so
- 34:47Speaker 1: I get bald spots and they go in on her
- 34:53Speaker 1: and the way they do it is Tyra is like Ebony.
- 35:00Speaker 1: I've gotten feedback and it's that your skin is ashy,
- 35:03Speaker 1: which is obviously racially coated, and Tyra's black and so
- 35:08Speaker 1: is Ebony. And obviously, okay, I'm not black, but you know,
- 35:14Speaker 1: ashy skin to me just means dry skin, a little
- 35:18Speaker 1: dryness on your skin, you know, like dry skin, That's
- 35:20Speaker 1: what I means. So like, yeah, I mean I have
- 35:23Speaker 1: you know, I get flaky dry skin heads on my
- 35:25Speaker 1: forehead right now, like you. So here's the thing. Nothing
- 35:29Speaker 1: could be an easier fix than putting moisturizer on skin,
- 35:36Speaker 1: Like I can't even you're not dying anything. You're not
- 35:39Speaker 1: taking any hair off, You're not fixing a fucking gap.
- 35:43Speaker 1: You're not you're not losing weight, you're not gaining weight,
- 35:45Speaker 1: you're not getting a nosed weight. Put moisturizer on is
- 35:51Speaker 1: in itself a wildly dumb comment to make for like
- 35:57Speaker 1: the final thing to say to anyone on TV, except
- 36:02Speaker 1: that you're going to use it as a way to
- 36:05Speaker 1: be incredibly aggressively racist towards someone on your show.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Absolutely, like I think you know, their main focus on
- 36:15Speaker 2: the show wasn't to help people become models. It wasn't
- 36:17Speaker 2: you know, to like showcase Tyra Banks. Their main thing
- 36:21Speaker 2: was story, story, story, and whatever they could milk, you know,
- 36:25Speaker 2: at the cost of the contestant is for a story.
- 36:29Speaker 2: So if it is like I don't know, just like
- 36:32Speaker 2: showing like moments where like someone's like why do you
- 36:34Speaker 2: wear that moisturizer? It's getting all over the place, and
- 36:37Speaker 2: it's just like the one black person there, you know,
- 36:39Speaker 2: like having to like feel really like stigmatized, and it's
- 36:42Speaker 2: like it was just like that. I feel like all
- 36:46Speaker 2: that stuff is very purposely set up. You know, there's
- 36:51Speaker 2: things that it was like it didn't have to be
- 36:53Speaker 2: this way. But like I think that the producers of
- 36:55Speaker 2: America's Next Top Model were like, let's explode this times
- 36:58Speaker 2: a million and make it like so much worse and
- 37:01Speaker 2: just produce the hell out of these people.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and they and they do it because they want
- 37:05Speaker 1: to get a reaction. So it's like a dual edge.
- 37:07Speaker 1: So you're going to offend someone to get them to
- 37:11Speaker 1: have a reaction, to make them look worse, and to
- 37:14Speaker 1: then get you, you know, ratings. You know, it's like
- 37:19Speaker 1: it'd be like as if this person was of celebrity
- 37:21Speaker 1: and you were like, let's let the tailor. You're so
- 37:23Speaker 1: fucking fat. I don't why I wanted to pick someone
- 37:26Speaker 1: who's got us. But Taylor was like fuck you and
- 37:28Speaker 1: came out of that. I was like, you get two things.
- 37:30Speaker 1: But yeah, they made Ebany look you know, made her
- 37:33Speaker 1: they made her look, uh, she looked fine, but like
- 37:37Speaker 1: Tyra said this to her on camera and very much
- 37:40Speaker 1: embarrassed her. And it was really really a gross But
- 37:43Speaker 1: from one cycle to the next, second cycle did they
- 37:45Speaker 1: get so much money and they just like, I mean,
- 37:48Speaker 1: kill it. They just have a huge ass studio. They
- 37:50Speaker 1: get to like, now take the girls across there'd be
- 37:54Speaker 1: like a big trip, which I remember that was always
- 37:56Speaker 1: a big ass deal and that still happens, and other
- 37:58Speaker 1: reality shows like.
- 38:00Speaker 4: Oh so you always seed the trip, Yeah, because it's
- 38:02Speaker 4: like the next level.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like kind of it's how you know, like
- 38:06Speaker 2: you like it's it's like the semi finals, except they're
- 38:08Speaker 2: calling it the trip, you know what I mean, Like, yeah.
- 38:11Speaker 3: It is a big deal.
- 38:12Speaker 2: And I think that it was that season that like
- 38:14Speaker 2: really kind of is very much like burned into my
- 38:18Speaker 2: brain just seeing what happened, seeing Janie Dickinson really do
- 38:23Speaker 2: her thing, watching.
- 38:24Speaker 3: Like Shandy Shandy.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that whole thing, like you know that that
- 38:30Speaker 2: to me, I mean, I know this is in the
- 38:31Speaker 2: second episode of the docu series.
- 38:33Speaker 1: But just that whole what's going on.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it was just.
- 38:37Speaker 2: As sounding the way I feel terrible watching it when
- 38:41Speaker 2: I was, however, old, thinking that this was like, oh
- 38:43Speaker 2: my god, she's such a slut, only to discover now that.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Clearly she was assaulted.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Clearly production did not you know, she was putting trust
- 38:53Speaker 2: into a production that did not have her best interest
- 38:55Speaker 2: in mind. This huge traumatic thing happened, and I just
- 39:00Speaker 2: thought the way that the docuseries on Netflix made it
- 39:03Speaker 2: seem was just like, am I the only one seeing that,
- 39:07Speaker 2: like a crime happened here?
- 39:09Speaker 3: Like a crime has happened.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I know, you're absolutely. It's interesting. Shandy was
- 39:15Speaker 1: working at a Walgreens, you know, and she when you
- 39:17Speaker 1: see her now, she doesn't feel like she she feels
- 39:20Speaker 1: very much like the same girl, you know, Danny doesn't
- 39:24Speaker 1: feel like the same girl like Danny has. Danny had to,
- 39:27Speaker 1: like Danny has a go, had to grow and learn,
- 39:30Speaker 1: not that Shandy didn't, but it's interesting how when Danny talks,
- 39:33Speaker 1: you're like, oh my god, you know, you really fucking
- 39:35Speaker 1: had to live a life and like change. She sounds
- 39:39Speaker 1: so different, you know, like, and Shandy is still very
- 39:43Speaker 1: much someone who should have never been on television, should
- 39:48Speaker 1: have you know, Like I'm surprised that she wanted to
- 39:50Speaker 1: be a model, you know, just because she seems to
- 39:53Speaker 1: like really be an introvert. Yeah. The episode second part starts,
- 39:58Speaker 1: you know, with Shandy Rick counting. What happened, of course,
- 40:01Speaker 1: is that she is after a photo shoot. They invite
- 40:04Speaker 1: guys back in and they all get fucked up in
- 40:06Speaker 1: a jacuzzie and they show Shandy and you know, all
- 40:08Speaker 1: these girls are tiny, tiny, tiny. There's a scene though,
- 40:12Speaker 1: after Shandy gets drunken of a Jacuzie hooks up with
- 40:15Speaker 1: one of the boys. She's the next morning crying on
- 40:18Speaker 1: a bed and I you know you do remember like
- 40:21Speaker 1: you see her and Urine, remember like how much she
- 40:26Speaker 1: does not have any body weight on her and just
- 40:29Speaker 1: logically knowing that you're like someone's drinking alcohol that like
- 40:35Speaker 1: doesn't have tolerance, Like you can't you can't assume this
- 40:38Speaker 1: person like this person it's not like and to not
- 40:40Speaker 1: step in is like a wildly immoral thing for everyone involved.
- 40:46Speaker 1: And every time they try and ask Tyra anything about it,
- 40:50Speaker 1: she's like, I wasn't involved in production.
- 40:52Speaker 3: And that to me is terrible.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Like that to me, like, I mean, if she's gonna
- 40:56Speaker 2: like kind of come in and take credit for trying
- 40:58Speaker 2: to like disrupt the industry, like you that you have
- 41:01Speaker 2: to take credit for everything, even I mean even like
- 41:04Speaker 2: Ken Mock or whatever, Like when they asked him and
- 41:06Speaker 2: he was like, listen, it was a documentary. These girls
- 41:08Speaker 2: agreed to do it, And it's like, well, no, these
- 41:11Speaker 2: girls agreed to help you make a product. They are
- 41:13Speaker 2: literally providing their bodies and their souls to help you
- 41:18Speaker 2: put together something. There is an inherent trust there, you know. Again,
- 41:23Speaker 2: this is like why it's also so astounding that they
- 41:25Speaker 2: weren't getting paid like this. I mean like they were
- 41:27Speaker 2: just like put in these situations to help other people
- 41:29Speaker 2: make money. And and like and I don't know, like
- 41:34Speaker 2: I think that you know, when you and I are
- 41:36Speaker 2: on set, like it's not that like we have to
- 41:38Speaker 2: be like best friends with the crew, but like you
- 41:41Speaker 2: know that there's a level of like safety there where
- 41:44Speaker 2: if someone's getting hurt, or someone's in danger, or something's
- 41:47Speaker 2: gonna fall on someone, you push them out of.
- 41:49Speaker 3: The way, you say excuse me, or you say behind you.
- 41:51Speaker 2: And and and the fact that like they just kept
- 41:54Speaker 2: the cameras rolling watching this really stick thin woman who
- 42:00Speaker 2: just having her like just watching her life get changed.
- 42:04Speaker 2: And like I don't know, I think like that maybe
- 42:06Speaker 2: was the storyline of like let's take this girl who's
- 42:09Speaker 2: like so the girl next door, very goody two shoes
- 42:11Speaker 2: and show America that she's really a slut.
- 42:14Speaker 1: You know.
- 42:14Speaker 2: And and I just like it was like Black Mirror,
- 42:17Speaker 2: the show Black Mirror was happening then and we didn't
- 42:19Speaker 2: even realize it you know what I mean.
- 42:21Speaker 1: I know it was like Romein and Gladiators when we're
- 42:24Speaker 1: just watching someone get really hurt and we were just
- 42:27Speaker 1: like putting popcorn in our mouth exactly.
- 42:29Speaker 2: This was entertainment and like and and like you kind
- 42:33Speaker 2: of like, yeah, I felt that, you know, I feel bad.
- 42:35Speaker 2: I was like I was like kind of like, oh, yeah,
- 42:37Speaker 2: she's a secret slut, you know, and this is terrible.
- 42:41Speaker 1: God, I wish I think that at the time. I'm
- 42:42Speaker 1: sure I watched it being like I wish I was
- 42:44Speaker 1: a model in Milam that could just cheat on my
- 42:46Speaker 1: boyfriend because because I already had a boyfriend and yet
- 42:49Speaker 1: also someone else wanted to have sex with me and
- 42:51Speaker 1: oh no, like I'm just I'm not great about it.
- 42:53Speaker 1: But that was probably where I was. And nothing about
- 42:56Speaker 1: this is that fuck you Ken, because this is not
- 42:58Speaker 1: a documentary. This is a competition showed that you came
- 43:01Speaker 1: up with the format. A documentary is like you having
- 43:03Speaker 1: cameras and you being really like bird's eye out of
- 43:06Speaker 1: an actual subject going on with their life. But none
- 43:08Speaker 1: of these women are fucking models. These are not women
- 43:11Speaker 1: in New York living in a Ford model modeling apartment
- 43:13Speaker 1: that you are now just falling around. These are bitches.
- 43:15Speaker 5: You cast, that's your responsibility, and he's taking a lot
- 43:19Speaker 5: of creative liberties with creating these storylines for them.
- 43:22Speaker 2: So this isn't a documentary. This is like it's its
- 43:25Speaker 2: own thing. And sure, you know at the time, like
- 43:28Speaker 2: there probably wasn't story editor, like they're probably the idea
- 43:32Speaker 2: of a story editor for reality show wasn't a thing.
- 43:35Speaker 2: But they were very much writing, creating storylines. They were
- 43:39Speaker 2: doing writing, even if it wasn't like writing a script.
- 43:42Speaker 2: You know, they were writing what was going to happen
- 43:44Speaker 2: in these people's lives.
- 43:45Speaker 3: And like.
- 43:47Speaker 2: It's just like the seeing them just like kind of
- 43:50Speaker 2: I don't know, like it made me so sad for
- 43:52Speaker 2: humanity of just like these people just like non accepting responsibility,
- 43:56Speaker 2: Like even if it's like you weren't at the work,
- 43:59Speaker 2: even if you weren't like at the office that day
- 44:01Speaker 2: when it was happening or whatever, like your name is
- 44:04Speaker 2: at the top of the umbrella, you have to take accountability,
- 44:07Speaker 2: Like this is not what adults do.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right, they say this a lot, Like j
- 44:12Speaker 1: Manuel uses this like I didn't. A lot of people
- 44:15Speaker 1: are not culpable, and Ja Manuel is like, yeah, well
- 44:18Speaker 1: they once they got a plot point. Once they got
- 44:20Speaker 1: a story point, they had to follow it and they do,
- 44:22Speaker 1: so shandy this happens. Then they make shandy so that
- 44:27Speaker 1: that sorry that happens. And then Tyra has a big
- 44:30Speaker 1: Cis sit down where she comes out and she has
- 44:33Speaker 1: red hair in this scene and it doesn't look not bad, Like.
- 44:35Speaker 3: I remember that, Oh I remember that look? Oh yeah, yeah,
- 44:38Speaker 3: I know.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I liked it. I was like, so I'll never pour
- 44:40Speaker 1: that off. But I was like, god, it's such an
- 44:42Speaker 1: interesting red you know.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and like even I just remember the cut of
- 44:45Speaker 2: it too, just like being like, god, I wash my
- 44:47Speaker 2: hair were straightened me too, Like.
- 44:49Speaker 1: What is that? She's just like I just wanted to
- 44:53Speaker 1: have a little like croissant with you girls, And it's
- 44:55Speaker 1: like out of the blue talk about cheating.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Mm hmm yeah, fuck you, Tira.
- 45:01Speaker 2: That to me, like that is so like cult, Like
- 45:05Speaker 2: that is a cult leader like behavior.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Are you breathing hard? Weird that you should be breathing
- 45:09Speaker 1: hard when I wor when I use the word cheating?
- 45:11Speaker 1: Do you have something you want to confess?
- 45:14Speaker 3: Yeah? That's like, how is that not like abusive? Do
- 45:17Speaker 3: you know what I mean?
- 45:18Speaker 2: Like it's so abusive and like I don't know even
- 45:22Speaker 2: like you and I like we're out here trying to
- 45:24Speaker 2: like become actors, and like it's like there's something you
- 45:26Speaker 2: know when like people are like kind of trying to
- 45:30Speaker 2: milk you and like take advantage of you know what
- 45:32Speaker 2: I mean, or just like kind of you're there to
- 45:34Speaker 2: provide a service, like with your body and your voice
- 45:36Speaker 2: and things like that, and so like just watching them
- 45:39Speaker 2: like milk these girls and like not caring about their safety,
- 45:42Speaker 2: their mental health anything, is like oh yes.
- 45:48Speaker 1: So then they make her have a conversation. So she's okay.
- 45:52Speaker 1: So then they're like she wants to leave. Shandy wants
- 45:57Speaker 1: to leave, and she wants her phone and they're like
- 45:59Speaker 1: you can't give your phone. I want to leave them
- 46:00Speaker 1: like okay, fine, here's your phone. And so she's like,
- 46:02Speaker 1: I wanna call my Boyfriend's like okay, fine, but we
- 46:04Speaker 1: have to record it. This is where it's confusing. So
- 46:05Speaker 1: I'm like, if you leaving, then why would they record it?
- 46:07Speaker 1: But here it is, so then they record the conversation.
- 46:10Speaker 1: I remember this very seemed very well, where you know,
- 46:12Speaker 1: she has to tell her boyfriend and he's very obviously upset.
- 46:15Speaker 1: He says, I can't be with someone that cheated on me.
- 46:18Speaker 1: We wanted to be together and you threw it away,
- 46:22Speaker 1: you stupid bitch. Yes, yeah, he just says, like and
- 46:28Speaker 1: she really broke down after that.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Yeah, And like at this point, this is what also
- 46:34Speaker 2: is like really scary about is that she wanted to
- 46:36Speaker 2: leave and they wouldn't let her leave.
- 46:39Speaker 3: Like that's kidnapping.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Country.
- 46:43Speaker 3: Yeah, Like am.
- 46:44Speaker 2: I not like like like, am I hearing this correct?
- 46:47Speaker 2: Like that's the whole time I'm wandering, I'm like, am
- 46:48Speaker 2: I hearing this correctly? She wanted to leave and they
- 46:50Speaker 2: wouldn't let her. That's that's some That's that's a crime.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Grinds are happening, I know it.
- 46:57Speaker 1: And then they fucking take her to a doctor. Then
- 46:59Speaker 1: they were like, excuse me, you sliggety slut. Do you
- 47:01Speaker 1: have any STDs because you know, you're just like Salaman
- 47:03Speaker 1: on knobs all day long, you sligety slut. And she's
- 47:06Speaker 1: like no, I mean, what a horrible It really was horrible.
- 47:08Speaker 1: So after that, Jay's like, you know what that's I
- 47:12Speaker 1: don't know. Uh. Jay calls her poor girl and films
- 47:17Speaker 1: her at the dock appointment. You know, it's just like
- 47:21Speaker 1: Ken says that he really scaled back the scene though,
- 47:24Speaker 1: so just you know, he really did the due diligence.
- 47:26Speaker 1: He could have showed a lot more.
- 47:27Speaker 2: But what does that mean though, Like is he like
- 47:29Speaker 2: saying that she's more culpable or like or he's saying
- 47:32Speaker 2: that like more harm was done to her. Like that's
- 47:34Speaker 2: what really scared me about that comment, you know what
- 47:36Speaker 2: I mean?
- 47:37Speaker 1: Yeah, like did the boyfriend also call her a cunt?
- 47:39Speaker 2: Like you know, yeah, like what are you? It's like
- 47:43Speaker 2: it's like hard to understand what he was implying, you know.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Yeah, all of this is like rating Schold or like
- 47:50Speaker 1: you know what two cycles a year, two cycles a year.
- 47:53Speaker 1: They show the SNL sketch with Amy poll Or on
- 47:55Speaker 1: the one leg, which was like obviously it's so funny
- 47:58Speaker 1: mm hmm. Yeah.
- 47:59Speaker 2: And then that was like my rootoff like that was
- 48:01Speaker 2: like her first year or something like I remember like
- 48:03Speaker 2: being like, oh she could do retire awesome.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah. And it was also just like,
- 48:09Speaker 1: you know, because that Amy Polar character is so dumb
- 48:11Speaker 1: on paper, like can you imagine pitching it? Yeah, So
- 48:14Speaker 1: she's just like always has one. She only has one leg.
- 48:16Speaker 1: She's really proud of it. She's really confident, but she's
- 48:19Speaker 1: gonna every time bring up she only has one leg, Like,
- 48:22Speaker 1: you can't even pitch that and have it sound funny.
- 48:24Speaker 2: No, no, and that's like not anymore. And it's like,
- 48:27Speaker 2: oh my god, Like it's you know, it's like one
- 48:29Speaker 2: of the lyrics is where you're it's like I just
- 48:32Speaker 2: need to write it and then you'll see, you know
- 48:34Speaker 2: what I mean. It's like I can't pitch this, let
- 48:36Speaker 2: me just write it and then you'll see. And those
- 48:37Speaker 2: aren't the most genius I know.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Oh that was such a good time. So basically, you
- 48:44Speaker 1: know pop as we're saying pop culture, these Ida guys
- 48:48Speaker 1: loves A and TM. So they're also having to do
- 48:51Speaker 1: different challenges. You had brought up the Pendulum Runway challenge
- 48:55Speaker 1: when girls are getting knocked off. It's almost like Mario
- 48:58Speaker 1: Party or something like that to me. But they had
- 49:01Speaker 1: this little clip where the view is reacting and Whoopy
- 49:06Speaker 1: watches that clip of that woman just getting knocked off
- 49:08Speaker 1: and Whoopy loses her mind. And then after the docu
- 49:13Speaker 1: series ends, Whoopy had a statement and she had and
- 49:15Speaker 1: she literally like this is a this is just bear
- 49:19Speaker 1: with me. I'm not gonna say the actual words, but
- 49:20Speaker 1: she basically was like, you guys, the woman that I
- 49:24Speaker 1: made fun of and I remember her name, but Whoopy
- 49:26Speaker 1: said her name's like the woman I made fun of
- 49:27Speaker 1: is named Becky Feldman, and I am, I'm sorry Becky
- 49:32Speaker 1: Feldman that I laughed at you. It's one of the
- 49:35Speaker 1: funniest things about for seeing Becky, I'm sorry. I was
- 49:39Speaker 1: gonna tell you that. It is still one of the
- 49:40Speaker 1: funniest I had ever seen. I can't stop I even now.
- 49:43Speaker 1: I'm Becky, I'm I'm sorry like she is. So I
- 49:46Speaker 1: was like, ah, that made me happy. Whoopy, Oh she
- 49:49Speaker 1: watched the entire.
- 49:50Speaker 2: Dog And now I know and like honestly, like I
- 49:53Speaker 2: don't hold like anything against that, Like I mean, a
- 49:58Speaker 2: goof is a goof, you.
- 49:59Speaker 3: Know what I mean?
- 49:59Speaker 2: Like funny is funny, Like we all love fail videos,
- 50:02Speaker 2: do you know what I mean? Like this is this
- 50:04Speaker 2: is and like I feel like with something like oh,
- 50:06Speaker 2: you're walking in there's like pendulums, Like it's like if
- 50:09Speaker 2: you're in that contest, it's like you kind of know
- 50:12Speaker 2: if you're gonna fall over, you got gold like this
- 50:15Speaker 2: isn't like kind, This isn't much of a gotcha kind
- 50:18Speaker 2: of moment, as like, let's see if you don't fall
- 50:21Speaker 2: and if you do, you're gonna have great whatever, and
- 50:23Speaker 2: that's really really funny and innocent.
- 50:25Speaker 3: So I'm with Whippy on this one.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Yeah, hopefully there was like some mattresses by but Tyra
- 50:32Speaker 1: is just like it's not my fault. You guys demanded
- 50:36Speaker 1: more as if it was my fucking fourteen year old
- 50:39Speaker 1: ass writing letters to the UPN No bitch. I was
- 50:41Speaker 1: like trying to figure a bra that would fit me
- 50:43Speaker 1: in Victoria's Secret And guess what, there weren't.
- 50:46Speaker 3: Any Yeah, there wasn't Twitter.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Then, there wasn't like you know, like any type of
- 50:49Speaker 2: like transparency between the makers of television and the viewers
- 50:52Speaker 2: of television. So it's like now we can like petition
- 50:55Speaker 2: to get so and so to host so and so,
- 50:57Speaker 2: because like there's so much transparent and see like who
- 51:01Speaker 2: people weren't calling UPN and being like, hey, can you
- 51:04Speaker 2: do a pendulum talent? Like no one was doing that,
- 51:07Speaker 2: and it's like, yeah, where it's like this is coming from?
- 51:09Speaker 2: And I think like Tyra like just was on this
- 51:12Speaker 2: kick of I don't want to do challenges anymore that
- 51:17Speaker 2: mimic maybe what real challenges are. Like in the modeling
- 51:20Speaker 2: world I at the time, like fear Factor, like we said,
- 51:24Speaker 2: was really popular, and she wanted all of those challenges
- 51:27Speaker 2: to just heighten, heighten, heighten, heighten. And that's another thing why,
- 51:31Speaker 2: like these models they couldn't even come out of the
- 51:34Speaker 2: competition with like normal modeling pictures for their you know, portfolios,
- 51:40Speaker 2: because it was like these like ridiculous things where like
- 51:42Speaker 2: they're in a salad or they're getting like knocked off
- 51:45Speaker 2: or like by a pendulum, and like and it's like
- 51:48Speaker 2: you they like you know, at the very least, like
- 51:51Speaker 2: again with acting, you know how like sometimes when it's
- 51:53Speaker 2: like there's no pay, but you can use it for
- 51:55Speaker 2: your real and you're like, okay. I think that they
- 51:57Speaker 2: were telling the models that this is like you're gonna
- 51:59Speaker 2: have a portfolio by the end of this that you
- 52:01Speaker 2: can like use to get jobs, and only to find
- 52:04Speaker 2: that they what the portfolio they had was just not
- 52:08Speaker 2: appropriate at all and none of them got jobs.
- 52:12Speaker 1: Yeah, right, Like Also it's weird, like can you imagine going,
- 52:15Speaker 1: I'm not a model, But I also would think it's
- 52:17Speaker 1: weird if they were like, let me see your portfolio.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Oh wait, every every shot is the same photographer all
- 52:23Speaker 1: Nigel Barker.
- 52:25Speaker 5: Yeah, and also homeless person and like the you know
- 52:28Speaker 5: the yeah homeless people, the one that's like our on
- 52:30Speaker 5: house people they you know, the unhoused one, the one
- 52:33Speaker 5: where it was like the damages of smoking, there's eating
- 52:35Speaker 5: disorder ones and there's a.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Girl with fucking barflover her mouth. So yeah, I would
- 52:38Speaker 1: like to know what IMG or ford like portfolio is
- 52:42Speaker 1: like use that one mm hmm.
- 52:44Speaker 3: Or it's a race swapping one.
- 52:46Speaker 2: I mean that to me, I mean like that's not
- 52:48Speaker 2: even just like the even the worst consequence of it,
- 52:50Speaker 2: but just to like, I don't know, like do it.
- 52:53Speaker 2: And and this is like a thing of what is
- 52:56Speaker 2: so like fascinating about particularly the race swapping thing, is
- 53:00Speaker 2: that you have Tyra, who you know, is such as
- 53:03Speaker 2: is this this successful black woman and she's like so
- 53:06Speaker 2: strong and like successful and proud and like people look
- 53:09Speaker 2: up to her, yet she's perpetuating these like awful stereotypes
- 53:13Speaker 2: that doesn't even phase her, and like.
- 53:16Speaker 3: And you're just like, what what's going on here? You know?
- 53:20Speaker 1: I know the ways in which that she projects her
- 53:25Speaker 1: own I mean issues are trauma onto the to not
- 53:32Speaker 1: just all the contestants on all the shows, but specifically
- 53:35Speaker 1: the black models on this show is the hardest thing
- 53:41Speaker 1: to watch on the old series. Like it's really it's
- 53:44Speaker 1: it's so fucked up, and it happens a bunch It's like,
- 53:47Speaker 1: not just ebony, It's gonna happen with Kenya. There's gonna
- 53:50Speaker 1: be a bunch of times the I trusted you is
- 53:53Speaker 1: not like you know we yeah, like she's the most
- 53:56Speaker 1: vicious yeah black women.
- 53:59Speaker 3: So I mean sorry, feeling.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Bad saying that is, but it's just that's what it
- 54:02Speaker 1: feels like from this That's what it feels like from
- 54:04Speaker 1: this docu series.
- 54:05Speaker 2: You know. Yeah, there's a and on this podcast, there
- 54:08Speaker 2: is a whole episode that's dedicated to that. Tyra Banks
- 54:12Speaker 2: like came in wanting to not have stereotypes of like
- 54:17Speaker 2: the angry black woman, and like basically the thesis of
- 54:22Speaker 2: that one episode was like how she treated all of
- 54:24Speaker 2: the black contestants. And then the kind of this weird
- 54:28Speaker 2: irony is that the one thing we remember the show
- 54:30Speaker 2: for of her being like I was rooting for you,
- 54:32Speaker 2: I was rooting for you. She becomes like the stereotype
- 54:35Speaker 2: that like she didn't want to have, and it's just
- 54:38Speaker 2: like weird, kind of like prophecy, the there's a whole
- 54:42Speaker 2: So again, there's a whole episode on that moment and
- 54:45Speaker 2: how there's a lot more that went down that this
- 54:48Speaker 2: woman that she was yelling at was really treated horribly.
- 54:51Speaker 2: She continues to be treated horribly or you know, maybe
- 54:53Speaker 2: I don't know. She's had a tragic life, I guess,
- 54:57Speaker 2: and she's just like not getting like the you the
- 55:00Speaker 2: justice that she deserves. And it's like this weird it's
- 55:05Speaker 2: just this weird cultural moment that we see made fun
- 55:06Speaker 2: of on RuPaul or like you know, on this or
- 55:10Speaker 2: you know, like on TikTok and things like that, and yeah.
- 55:14Speaker 1: Tiffany is her name, and yeah, like it it's funny
- 55:18Speaker 1: because I'll tell you what Tyra says about her. But
- 55:21Speaker 1: it's like I forgot not to go jump back and forth.
- 55:23Speaker 1: But even with Danny Evans, So Danny and Evans and
- 55:26Speaker 1: Jonie have to go to the dentist and Joni has
- 55:29Speaker 1: to like fix all of her teeth and they want
- 55:31Speaker 1: Danny to fix her gap and Danny's like, bitch, no,
- 55:33Speaker 1: and then she says no to the dentist, and I'm
- 55:35Speaker 1: so happy for her. She actually says no to like
- 55:37Speaker 1: someone saying that professionally to her, and then she Tyra
- 55:42Speaker 1: just bullies her. It's like, oh, bitch, you'll go home.
- 55:43Speaker 1: So I'm sorry, do you want to go home? We're
- 55:45Speaker 1: gonna get the gap. And so obviously she's like she
- 55:47Speaker 1: calls her mom. She's like, this is what you're here for.
- 55:49Speaker 1: She gets her gap fixed, and then a couple of
- 55:52Speaker 1: seasons later, Tyra looks at some white lady and is like,
- 55:57Speaker 1: you know what your face needs a little more. Lauren
- 55:59Speaker 1: Hutton puts a gap in someone's mouth, which neither here
- 56:04Speaker 1: nor there with gaps, Like I just I had never
- 56:06Speaker 1: even heard of doing that, Like I didn't know it
- 56:09Speaker 1: was a thing.
- 56:10Speaker 2: It's awful, like the like to me, that feels like
- 56:13Speaker 2: again physical abuse, like you know, like it's and also
- 56:18Speaker 2: but like another thing that was like so astounding is
- 56:20Speaker 2: that they made it seem like these dental procedures were
- 56:22Speaker 2: happening in the course of a night, and it was
- 56:25Speaker 2: like kind of like these outpatient procedures that like like
- 56:29Speaker 2: dental work is like major like and they're like on
- 56:33Speaker 2: the next day like having to like go and do
- 56:35Speaker 2: a do a challenge and stuff with like severe like
- 56:39Speaker 2: you know, needing to recover, not even getting that opportunity,
- 56:43Speaker 2: and like not even like letting them choose their own
- 56:45Speaker 2: dentists to do this.
- 56:47Speaker 3: You know what I mean. Like it's just like that's
- 56:48Speaker 3: what's so crazy about it.
- 56:51Speaker 1: So many things. Yeah, Like there's a whole process with
- 56:54Speaker 1: dental work. If anyone has done it, like it takes
- 56:56Speaker 1: a long time because sometimes you have to like move
- 56:59Speaker 1: your jaw sometimes it's like this. The truth of the
- 57:02Speaker 1: matter is, listen, Joni's teeth needed work. Okay, knew it,
- 57:06Speaker 1: she'd have the money for it. Yeah, I'm not a
- 57:08Speaker 1: dentist or the orthodonist needed needed. There to be multiple
- 57:13Speaker 1: levels where something happens. To create room for something, they
- 57:17Speaker 1: pull out something, then they reposition, then they put something
- 57:19Speaker 1: on to make it sure that it's setting right. Then
- 57:22Speaker 1: those come down and then you do the next round.
- 57:24Speaker 1: Like that's like what the kind of thing that I
- 57:25Speaker 1: think that she would have needed? They didn't, right, They
- 57:27Speaker 1: shaved all fucking teeth down like little toothpicks to put
- 57:31Speaker 1: on fake tea. So now Joni and listen, she I
- 57:35Speaker 1: don't know whether she was kind of like I don't
- 57:36Speaker 1: know whether I would have had the money to do it.
- 57:37Speaker 1: So god bus bus bus. I just don't know where
- 57:39Speaker 1: she is. But she does say that she still has
- 57:40Speaker 1: a lot of issues because they kind of just covered
- 57:43Speaker 1: up and to get shit done as fast as possible.
- 57:46Speaker 1: What is major surgery shit?
- 57:49Speaker 2: Yeah, And also like just the violation of rights there,
- 57:53Speaker 2: Like she's an adult woman, she's over eighteen. We at
- 57:57Speaker 2: our constitution at the time said we can do whatever
- 58:00Speaker 2: we want.
- 58:01Speaker 3: With our body.
- 58:01Speaker 2: There are certain like things like you can elect like
- 58:05Speaker 2: what kind of like procedures you want done. You should
- 58:09Speaker 2: be able to choose what kind of like who you
- 58:11Speaker 2: want to go to.
- 58:12Speaker 3: But like just the fact that like they they it
- 58:15Speaker 3: felt like she was being trafficked.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Like am I like am I like over am I
- 58:19Speaker 2: over analyzed this too much? But just like forcing her
- 58:22Speaker 2: to go to a doctor that she doesn't want to do,
- 58:24Speaker 2: having her do with surgery that like she doesn't have
- 58:26Speaker 2: time to like prep for there's no pre op, there's
- 58:29Speaker 2: no post you know, like all of the stuff that
- 58:32Speaker 2: needs to be done that would be medically sound is
- 58:34Speaker 2: not being done.
- 58:35Speaker 3: Like that's it's again crimes crimes are being convinced, yeah.
- 58:38Speaker 1: Don't you want what do you want it? I just
- 58:41Speaker 1: don't want it?
- 58:42Speaker 2: Then exactly, and then in the amount that Corersion like,
- 58:45Speaker 2: that's crimes.
- 58:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's cool. You don't want to go to heaven.
- 58:48Speaker 1: I guess you're not good. You're just like, oh, you
- 58:50Speaker 1: don't like Jesus or you don't like yes, okay, yeah,
- 58:54Speaker 1: I mean it's so yeah. Basically that we the episode
- 58:57Speaker 1: three starts with you know, Tyra being asked like, what
- 59:00Speaker 1: was the toughest moment for you? And then she's like, huh.
- 59:03Speaker 1: There's a couple of interviewers and you hear their voices
- 59:05Speaker 1: a couple of times. It's not one. There's a guy
- 59:07Speaker 1: and there's a girl. The girl's like Tiffany maybe, and
- 59:11Speaker 1: she's like, I was thinking Tiffany. I was thinking Tiffany. Yeah.
- 59:14Speaker 1: But they go over the we rooted for you bullshit.
- 59:17Speaker 1: But this is whatever. I mean, you've seen this moment.
- 59:19Speaker 1: It's when she yells at someone that she also thought
- 59:22Speaker 1: that she had saved. It's this thing where she's like,
- 59:25Speaker 1: we have found Tiffany and she was so bob in
- 59:27Speaker 1: the barrel and she got kicked off. We put all
- 59:30Speaker 1: this resources and less Moonviz get me an extra fucking account.
- 59:33Speaker 1: I gave her all this money and she comes back
- 59:35Speaker 1: and I'm like, you're gonna win, bitch. And then of course,
- 59:38Speaker 1: whatever this happens. And then so this is Tyra in
- 59:41Speaker 1: the documentary. This is her taking her statement. She's like,
- 59:45Speaker 1: I went too far. I lost it. It was probably
- 59:48Speaker 1: bigger than her. It was the family, friends, society, black girls,
- 59:54Speaker 1: all the challenges that we have, so many people saying
- 59:56Speaker 1: that were not good enough. I think all of that
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: in that moment as some black girls. Stuff that goes
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: real deep inside of me. But I knew I went
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: too far. Now, I do think that there is something
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: too that you are the meanest or the angriest to
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: the people you care about, or the people that you
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: see yourself in, you know all of that stuff. And
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: obviously there was like visceral feelings behind that, and that
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: came out. And Tyra, though, has this like weird way
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: of every time that she is going to take accountability,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: she wipes her hands of it by being like, yes,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: I did it, but we do it. Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: do it because we do it, you know how like.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: It like it kind of reminds me, and maybe.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: This is like why it is also like such a
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: like earth thing of like the popular girl in high
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: school who would never who could never do you wrong,
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: and it's like no matter, and like they can talk
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: their way out of it and even just like SMI
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: their way out of it, you know what I mean,
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: and like and and and like there's just you know,
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: and there's those like those manipulative people who like you
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: like like let's say that you're like confronting someone. Not
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: that I've this happens to me all the time, but
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: like I have people in my life where I'm like, hey,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: I just want to let you know, like you know,
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: this hurt me, blah blah blah, all of a sudden,
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: like that's something I want them to apologize, And then
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: all of a sudden, I'm the one apologizing to them
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: because they're just able to kind of like manipulate the
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: truth and be so charming and smise and do this
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: and that, and like that's what this was feeling, like,
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: you know, like she was talking, she was doing like
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: again an excellent charming job cult like behavior.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Like yeah, did you get a facelift?
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: I thought about it. I was like, cause she does
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: look did she has something to her lips? Like I
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: thought it was maybe her lips, but I could be wrong.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: I also like someone can do something through their nose
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: and I'll be like, oh, they got their eyes done,
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: and I just because my brain works weird.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: I'm now now now I'm like cognizant of eye surgeries
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: because I feel like everyone gets bleffed now. But is ye,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: no shame, just yeah, she does look Tyra looks good.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: Oh she looked great and she always has and always will.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: Like she is a beautiful woman, aesthetically beautiful woman.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: And I'll give Tyra one other thing. Tyra's name doesn't
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: seem to be like at all associated with you know,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein on like Naomi her like bitter Rifle you know.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Wow, yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean there were actually there.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: I mean there's a ton of documents that blah blah blah. Yeah,
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: Like I mean, like, uh uh that weren't that weren't
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: out there? She could be Yeah, I'm just kidding. Yeah,
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: she's not friends with Donald Trump. That's fine whatever, who knows,
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: but yeah, like yeah, she's not like she's not being
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: what's the word when you're like associated with something terrible
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: that it's illegal, like associated just hated with Yeah, inkahoots,
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: that's it.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I love word cahoots.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: I know it's so cute. Yeah, I know a clown clown.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I can see you.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: She wasn't prankin with them, wasn't doing silly high jinks
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: with though the rich and powerful.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: No, she's just doing it on her own show. But
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: it's like her. Yeahs Tyra's hijinks, you know, like Tyra
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: pretending to faint, you know, just to show us acting.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: I'm ninety nine percent sure that Tyra went to a
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: Growndlings class in one of the episodes. Don't you remember that?
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: I do vaguely remember improv. Yeah, I do remember a Groundlings.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: They didn't go to UCB.
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: I don't think UCB was there at the time in
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: New York.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Yeah, they went to Groundlings. I want to go back
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: and see, like who I'm I would love to go
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: see who it was or whatever. Yeah, it's like Jennifer Coolidge.
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: No, not like Mindy Sterling. I wouldn't be surprised if
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: it was her.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: She's like that.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I thought that awesome power has already happened. Though many yeah,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: oh god, I don't know.
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: So basically, you know, j Manuel, also it is not
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: taking accountability of the interviewers, like did you did you
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: with like the race baiting stuff and you being you know,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: from South Africa and you you know, pretending that you're
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: a creative director and then you just slowly saying that
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: it was taken from you. Did you ever go to
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: anyone involved in production and say, hey, this isn't cool
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: with all the girls, like I'm almost being raped and
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: stuff like that, And Jay says, well, I would never
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: tell them. God, I'm just like not being able to
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: tell them really depleted me and shipped away at my soul.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: I was like, this is where it gets really weird.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: So then mister j Jay Alexander about j Manuel is like, well,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: he's really secretive and he keeps everything to his chest.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: So then after the you know, I was rooting for you,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: this is where Jamie Manuel is like I wanted to leave.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: I want to leave. And Tyra and I had this
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: like you know, working relationship that's also beff where we
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: were like, if anything ever happens, come to me first.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: So I wrote her an email and I just expressed gratitude.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: At first, I was like, email, that's a shitty thing.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: If you're that close of friends, seems like you should
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: probably I don't know, call your friend or be like, hey,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: we need to like meet up.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: Also, this isn't different at the time.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: There was no maybe there was text messages and now
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: they think about it, but it was always like, it
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: was interesting to send someone an email because that's what
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: you did with bosses.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Did it come from like a Prodigy account you know?
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was a chicking letter and if
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: you don't send it to ten people, you're gonna get
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: bad luck or like something like that.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, so honey. Then Tyra you know, doesn't
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: reply for three days, and then Jane Manuel opens up
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: his you know, a well account and you've got mail
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: and it's her with three words I am disappointed. So
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: then he's like, so I went to Saint Lucia and
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: then my attorney calls me. My attorney calls me and
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: is like, they want you for one more cycle and
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: by the way, if you say no, we're going to
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: blacklist you. And then j Manuel's like, well, they didn't
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: use that word blacklist, but that was what inferreds. So
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: what does Jane Manuel do? He enjoys his time in
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: Saint Lucia and he stays on for ten more seasons
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: striking until they fire him, and he's what upset.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that to me, And this is what I'm having
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: issues with the integrity of this series is that final
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: third episode where suddenly like the Jaser and Nigel or
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: suddenly like they they are victims. Like I'm sure that
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: they were treated horribly and I and I do like
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: empathize with like what they do.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: Why were they were they treated horribly? Oh maybe j
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: Alexander after being halfter a stroke.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: But but like I mean, I don't know, Like I'm
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: like I don't want to deny that maybe like behind
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: closed doors during production bad things could have happened, Like
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: they don't want to like take away like their humanity.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: But I thought it was like too much to make
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: them these like kind of like three central figures who
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: were the ones who got hurt the most when they
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: were making a paycheck, they were able to like have
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: lunch provided for them, like.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: They were able to like provide for their family.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: Like it was just like, yeah, it's like when you're
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: looking at like when you want to, like, I don't know,
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: like look at.
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: The victims, like this is what it just feels like.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: It's like there's so many models who did the show
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: who are like so victimized. Yeah, and we're focusing on
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: them and like they're fine, you know, like he's taking
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: pictures of Taylor Swift, you know, like not again like
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: health issues and things like I know that Miss Jay
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: like that that is terrible and I and I do
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: have empathy for that, but there's still a level of
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: like relative privilege that that all of them have that
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: the contestants don't have, you know, And yeah, anyway, I'm
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: off my high horse.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: No, you're absolutely right. Jamie Juwell obviously has put so
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: much filler in his mouth or in his face it's
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: like his cheekbones are on fire. He's like, yeah, you know,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: basically what happens is ratings start to drop, and so
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: Ken Monk and Tyler's like, well, we need to save money.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: We're gonna cut the j's. But what had happened was
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: they're like, well, really was upn It was the higher up.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: They told me, Tira, there are no sacred cows, And
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: I knew what that movement. You know, and so they
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: of course fire the Jays and Nigel, and then it
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: was supposed to be like everything is chill where we
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: meant to do this, but then also release a page
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: six obviously an article that was like leaked and it
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: makes them look they were fired. And then they go
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: on TV like as a little like press tour all
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: three together, and some anchor talks to Jane. It's like, Jay,
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: how do you feel about Tyra? Is she really mean?
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: Is she a professional? Is she a diva? Behind stage?
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: And Jay's like, I know, she's very a hard worker,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: great work ethic, almost like Beyonce if you would same
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: kind of person. In fact, you wouldn't know one from
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: the other unless we were around ha ha ha, Right Jay,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: it's so weird or whatever. But yeah, he also writes
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: a book that's about like the Bitch and the Wardrobe,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: Like you really, yeah, I try to look up like that.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: I wanted to look up and see like what the
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: reviews or I can't look I can't.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I was like I kind of want to read it.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Well, like, okay, here's another thing I have about that.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: Thing about like this part of the documentary of the
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: docuseries is that like I feel like part of a
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: good docuseries is like you're telling stories that viewers can
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: relate to, right, Like, and so when they were talking
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: about like the press league and then going on TV
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: and all of this and like writing this and doing that,
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: it's like suddenly like I'm like, this is such a
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: rich person problem, you know what I mean.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: Hollywood, It's such a Hollywood problem.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Like yeah, and then at that point of the documentary,
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: I'm like, well, who is this for? Like, the only
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: people who would appreciate this is the Real Housewives of
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: Salt Lake City, No one normal?
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, It's so so anyway, after this point, it's
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: funny because I don't really remember this that much, but
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: you know, ratings are horrible and she's going crazy and
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: she's having the Kardashians on and they use short people
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: or whatever, like you.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Know, it is all the out of control like and
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: and it's just you know, the challenges are very demeaning
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: as well, like it's just yeah.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: Yep, and then they're like, you know what, Tyra your
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: cut and rebring in Rito Aura.
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: Mmm, I didn't watch it then, oh.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: Not at all. I know. It's like yeah, at that point,
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: I'm like so Tyre's still making money off of it,
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: but she just like isn't the host? And also what
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: was that conversation? Like I would pay one million dollars
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: just to hear that entire conversation where I don't know
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: Donn or who I don't know, Ken whoever gets to
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: be like no, no, you're too old. We're going to
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: get someone new.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, we need we need fresh blood. Yeah, I
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: mean it makes like I know that's.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: What that's what she preached.
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: Right, here's the thing about if you are going to
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: be a superficial person, Like, if you are going to
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: be superficial, then you have to accept change, and change
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: says It's like, there's always going to be someone younger.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: This is right, This is like a state. There's always
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: gonna be someone younger, hotter, richer, thinner, more beautiful, skinnier,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: whatever or whatever, like that's skinnier, tow us more in
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: shape or curby er, whatever the thing is, bigger boobs.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: There's always be someone with a better ass, bigger boobs,
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: perkier boobs, a better note, better Like what, There's always
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: gonna be someone either because there's so many people in
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: the world or because taste tastes changed, and so yeah,
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: like that's like what n yah, all about Eve is
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: like I'd love to watch Tyras like all about Eve moment.
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: Yeah, And the thing is is that like she's even
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: said it, Like I mean, I know, I know it's
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: Abbey Lee Miller who says everyone is replaceable.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: I mean, don't get me.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: Wrong, I know my tyrants, but like she, like Tyra Banks,
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: does imply that kind of message all throughout the cycles
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: of America's next top model, like everyone's replaceable, Like you don't,
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: you don't fit into this, You're replaceable. You're not gonna
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: get a gap tooth like or you're not gonna get
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: your gap fit like them, We'll find someone else. And
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: like you, it's hard to forget that like that can
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: also happen when you're at like the top of the pyramid.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: I now I'm talking dance moms, but it can happen.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: That's fine. I'm not mad. Loved it. Yeah, oh my god.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: So yeah, like I was. I would think I was
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: somewhere like recently, like it maybe it was an improv
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: class and like this like older male had like an
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: ALDC shirt whoa, And I was like couldn't. I was
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: just like I couldn't even I couldn't stand it. I
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: was so happy Jamie Ewell's books has four point two
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: out of five hearts and seven hundred and eighty three
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: global reviews.
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: I was way worse. Smut that has way more reviews,
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: way better, do you know what I mean?
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: I just like that just makes me laugh.
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: Because I'm like, there's like so many like funny, hilarious
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: smut books out there that I have like six figure
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: numbers of reviews, and yeah, I'm being I'm being an asshole.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Okay, It's just that j Manuel never had like a
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: great personality, like he had a fake personality in the
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: show as being like someone's like fun, you know, like
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: key key. But the thing about it, he was never
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: smart or like super super like specific. And that's the
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: difference between that Jay and missus J, miss J who
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: always was like Miss J always was about it, like
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: Miss Jay's life is about being fucking elegant, deeply elegant, gorgeous, sophisticated.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: Walking went on like worked at a fashion college for
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: a long time, you know, like which is you know,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: like a professor and then you know, so the documentary
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: and then Nigel just kept doing like crazy as photohoots.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: Nigel's like Nigel was never really problematic on the show,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: like he really she got to be like the weirdest
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: like fun absentee, you know, like ex Dad who was
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: like just got to show up and just you know
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: he was They never made him mean and none of
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: his comments were really mean.
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: Yeah excuse me.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: Yeah, he was always the one working, you know what
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: I mean, Like, yeah, there's always like someone who's doing
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: the job.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: Yeah he seems he working.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: Yeah, well I will say like he I mean, you know,
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: there he was called out for you know, like there
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: was a moment where someone was like grinding on a
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: woman and touching her inappropriately, and she stopped the shoot
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: to say something and he said, you shouldn't have done that,
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: you know. Like so it's like he's not like totally
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: I mean, but yes, he he was like kind of
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: there to just like we just need like a stern
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: man to click the photos. But with Jay Manuel, like
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: I feel like it was almost like he was like
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: Tyra's underling, you know what I mean, And maybe there
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: was like some sort of again like mean girls tile
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: friendship or he was like kind of like her her
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: minion in a way, and then the second that like
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: they did have that falling out and he was like
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: not the minion anymore and they were having like their
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: falling out, like it affected his performance and he was
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: doing on the show, you know what I mean, Like,
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: if he's miserable off camera, he's going to look miserable
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: on Careah.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: Why does he stay for eight seasons? So I know why? Money?
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: Yeah, And like I wonder if, like I wonder if
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: he has like his friendship with Tyra. Again I am
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: projecting here, but I'm curious if maybe their friendship is
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: a little more toxic than like what the like, I
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: think it's like a bad like I think that was
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: probably for things to get to that level. And like
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: I don't think that this was like a friendship that
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: was like a healthy one.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: You're welcome. I think that. And this is don't mean
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: to go on a limb. I can't imagine that either
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: one of those people have any good relationships.
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's true, like you know, you kind.
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: Of see the price of fame and wanting to like
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: you know, like sacrifice everything for a dream, and like
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: the things that you sacrifice can be like close relationships
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: or like having working on your you know.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: So yeah, but yeah, the best one, Jay Alexander unfortunately
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: does half a stroke situation. Obviously, my sorry unfortunately J
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Manuel suffers a stroke. And when that happens, J Sorry
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: did I say J Manuel?
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: Miss j J? It's J and J. I get them
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: confused all the time, so I just call them ja's.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: I know, the j's miss J. Jay Alexander, my favorite
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: walk coach, unfortunately suffered a stroke and you know, it
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: was seemed to be a rather big one. And as
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: just like a side note to this documentary, I found
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: it really refreshing that Jay was able to like be
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: really vulnerable with the despair that happened after that.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: Absolutely, like I thought filming the room he was staying
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: in his hospital room, you know, like I thought that
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: was like very not moving, but like I kind of
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: it touched me in a profound way of just like
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: you know, like seeing like what like medical issues can do,
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: like even the most higher up you have to be
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: like humbled when you're connected to wires and having to
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: do rehab and being where you could be Like there's
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: something poignant about that. I will say that.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, to share that, you know, to expose that
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: in itself is kind of like I think that it
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: does something it it doesn't maybe like take away from
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: any of the pain the women caused. But Tyra and
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: j Manuel are sure certainly not exposing themselves in any
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: sort of vulnerability. At the end of the day, j
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Manuel wants to pretend that he's doing well. Like j
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: Manuel hasn't got a phone call from anyone to do
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: a media appearance in like five years. So if I
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: could watch j Manuel crying at night in his one bedroom,
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: you know, and like a shitty part of like you know,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: New York somewhere, and really see him being vulnerable and
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: like see where the show brought him, I think that
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: would be great. But that's not what we're gonna see,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: and we're gonna obviously Tyra's in Australia, and also this
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: kind of ends with her being like wait, watch out
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: for cycle twenty five, and then I'm like, Becky, what
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: the are they doing it in Australia?
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean like, well, first of all, I thought
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: maybe they there was already in Australia's next top model,
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: and then like also like this is another thing is
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: that I think like like going back to being vulnerable.
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: Like I think that like Tyra was just like putting
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: on the theatrics in terms of like how she was
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: I said, some dumb shit and I need you all
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: to expose me, and like how like she was doing
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: that to like you know, own up to it.
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: But it was like still very fake.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: And then like this is why I thought maybe it
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: was produced was because when she said that we're back,
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, wait a minute, was this just like
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: a doctor maial to get us excited for the season?
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: What twenty six so confusing?
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: But also is it like a quote unquote woke one.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: I can't just obviously do right?
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: I mean yeah, I mean like I would.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: That's like I don't know, like you know, yeah, we
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: are considering people's lives.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: Exactly, and it's like are these people Like it's like
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: we're all gonna watch it and wonder if like are
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: these people safe?
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: Yeah, Like the truth of the matter is the only
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: way that like and there's been documentaries about actual models,
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: Like is what I just said like an actual documentary
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: about a model, like an actual model, like you know,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: someone from Russia that like it's her first year in
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: New York and she is living in a model apartment.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: And maybe you, I mean, and maybe you just don't
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: tell the castings that you're doing a die. I don't
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: know how you do it, you know, but yeah, she
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: made it seem like there's a brain new cycle that
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: she's living in. She's you know, obviously judging something stupid
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: in Australia and also smising away using that name for
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: US ice cream, which makes no goddamn sense. I yeah,
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: like the girls, So Shandy's you know, didn't model, Danny
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: gave up modeling, Jonie's not a model there, Whitney got
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: to go on and do a bunch of plus size modeling.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: Winnie Harlowe, who I actually didn't watch because she's like
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: too young for me. Did you watch Winnie Harlow on
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: America Sextup Model?
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: You know, I watched it, and that was I think
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: that was like the final, my my final for it,
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: because I was like curious about the you know, there
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: being a plus sized model and also but like this
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: weird thing of like, well, when you're a plus size model,
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: like you can only do catalogs, it's not high fashion
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: or like just I don't know.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So basically, god, I just I love Danny
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: Evans's earrings. I just want to like call that out
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: or whatever. And I really like loved her throughout the
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: entire docu series, Like she was like the star a
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: little bit to me.
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: Like yes, and she was like the one like after time.
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: I loved that cut that they did when I like
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: to call me out da da da and like and she's.
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: Like, bullshit, pretty good.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: Yeah that was so great. Yeah. So basically that's how
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: it ends, and yeah, respectfully, fuck you. This is also
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: the thing that Danny said. She said it later on
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: she got a conversation with Tyra where she where Tyra
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: said she knew that there were doors that you couldn't
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: even get into and that she didn't do anything about
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: it because she really just rode the fence with her
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: and that's where she was like, respectfully, fuck you. You don't know.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: My life is like yeah, and I think that. Yeah.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Tyra just was able just just obviously loved to be
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: able to use anyone to further her own agenda, and
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: her agenda was to be like a star. Tira wants
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: to be an actress and a singer. Tyra has come
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: out with music before.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: Like you know, Tyra loved an actors, you know, like
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: and she was just like going like I feel like
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: towards the end she just wanted to be like Ashton Kutcher,
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: you know what I mean, just like go nuts on camera.
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: Yes, Like she's like, I want to be like Amy
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: Schumer meets you know right now Nicole. She shears Inger's
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: career like she wants the ide on Braway, having done
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: having just want to Tony. She wants to be Roxy
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: Heart and yeah she's a kick Whitney off the stage, honey. Yeah,
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: So basically okay, So that is how it ended. There
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: were so many good shots. So though I loved to
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: remember that there were so many good shots. I loved Natasha.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: There was that one lady that had like the female
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: circumcision situation happened and they made have her armed hair.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: That was so horrible. But it was nice to see
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: everyone because like there's like I I hope everyone is
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: like doing well. The I was gonna say, yeah, Natasha
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: Galinka was like for some reason, our gal Kina was
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: my favorite. For some reason, I told you Adrian didn't, oh,
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: I hadn't. Adrian just wasn't in the documentary at all.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: And also Ainsley. Do you remember Ainsley?
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, probably one of the.
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: Ainsley actually had a career as an actor in Los Angeles,
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: Like she works, like she worked before. You know, I'm
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: not quite sure if she still works, but like to me,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: Ainsley was the most successful actor from the show.
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I Like, I think what's astounding to me
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: is that the level of models that they didn't interview,
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: that they did not use in this show, Like you
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: would think that like if you want to have like
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: a well balanced docuseries, Like there were so many people
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: who were on America's Next Top Model that didn't participate,
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: And that's what I feel like is like way more
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: telling about like this output than the output itself, like
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: just like what like what happened? Like I think, like
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: it's just yeah, it's just very interesting. Is that for
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: a show where they were like, let's make a documentary
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: about models and it's called America's Next Top Model, it
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: really wasn't a documentary about models. It was like let's
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: see how we can humiliate these people, you know what
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: I mean?
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, And it's funny because yeah, like Anchol was
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: like remember like that beautiful Indian model from like earlier on.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: You know, like there was just there were so many
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: people that like from the early seasons that were like
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: really iconic, that like either they don't show or they
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: don't talk to and they probably won't have nothing to
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: do with it. And I could go through all their
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: instagrams and like see if they said anything but having aired,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: let me tell you this. Yeah. So then Kelly Katrone,
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: pr golden child of like the two thousands, put this
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: comment about Jay side note Jay, this is on Instagram.
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: They never even worked in the fashion industry. He worked
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: at a Mac makeup counter in Toronto. Tyra boose at
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: him and how did he even pay her by writing
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: a novel about her in the show, which no one bought.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: And now he's trying to become relevant again by being
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: out there trashing her again. Maybe he will get a
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: deal as a spokesperson for spray tanning or filler. He
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: was so incredibly rude to me my first day on
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: the show. He came, he come up. I mean, obviously
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: there's some problems. He comes up to me and said,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: welcome to the show. You are in the ejector's seat,
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: meaning anyone who sat in the seat, Andre etc. Would
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: be fired. Oddly enough, he was does at the end
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: of the season whenever Kelly just I'm for just one
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: more passed just looking over this stuff.
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: But I mean he should be like a kind of
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: a copywriter for tweet for celebrity tweets or something.
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: Yeah, well, like I think this is also.
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: An interesting thing is that you know, yes, Tyra and
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: Ken Mock and Upan weren't like kind of and less
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: Moonvez were at the head of the pyramid, but like
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: you kind of see like yeah, like the Jays were
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: you know, maybe beneath them and didn't have as much power,
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: but you kind of see how like some of their
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: behavior was like they were justifying even though they were
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: victimized as well, but like they were also victimizing other people,
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: you know, and and like that that's something that happens
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: in colts, and like that you were you're both the
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: victim and you're the you're you're the victim isser or
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: whatever and sorry, yes, yes, and so like that. So
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: I it's so because like there were there were shots
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: of Jay saying terrible things and like not maybe not
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: miss Jay as much. I don't recall miss Jay, like
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: you know, saying saying she's fat or just like being
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: as like maybe as blunt and and cruel and bitchy
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: as maybe the other ones were. But I actually I
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: don't remember. I don't recall, But yeah, I.
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: Don't think so. I don't think so either. I think
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: there was a level of decorm. I think that two
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: things are true. A. The modeling industry is fucking toxic. Okay,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: so Whitney says things like this, like that's what it
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: was like back then, and it's not not true. It's
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: not it's not It wasn't like where they were trying
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: to scare models with spiders and ship that didn't fucking happen.
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: But yeah, definitely they were looking at models' bodies and
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: still do and thinking whatever they did. This is a statement.
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: And we're almost done from Adrian Curry when are of
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: a Man next Top Model Cycle one? Okay, I have
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: mad respect for Tyra Banks. Curry said she is not sorry.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: She is not apologizing to you. That bitch is not
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: fing sorry. She will not bend the knee, and I
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: respect that. We want her to lie and lie and
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: say how bad she feels. Everyone's coming to me and
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: they're like, none of the judges, we're sorry, Why should
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: they be? They all they're all loaded. Why should they
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: give a flying f? You know, if they didn't give
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: an F at that time, they certainly ain't gonna give
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: an F now. But MAD respect for Tyra because that's
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: hard to push back on that many people trying to
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: struggle session you, and she's just like, fuck you, I
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: do what I want. I gotta respect that. So I
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: tip my hat, my lady, she says, My lady keep
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: on being herself, which is someone who doesn't give a
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: flying shit.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: That I think emblemizes this whole thing. I know they
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: don't care, and like they like.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: He cares that she's excited for they. I think that
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: she's like that's why she said that.
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, Like I think she's like I think she
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: wanted to like look like a hero in a way
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: of like I'm able, like that kind of thing of
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: like I'm able to admit my mistakes and and here
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: here's me. A great person is able to admit their mistakes,
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: and I am a great person.
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: Yes, And I think that's what she was doing.
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: It's everything part of the medium machine that there is
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: no bad press that you can spin everything. Yeah, she really, yeah,
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: she really ended up with it being like, thank you
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: for calling me out, because evolution is how you move.
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: And let me tell you, when this happens to you,
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: when people call you out, when people come for you,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: I hope that you embrace it just as hard as
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: you want me to embrace it, just like I'm embracing
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: with a whole ass docu series. I can't wait to
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: watch you do that too. Because we're all the same, right, It's.
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: Like, no, we're not all the same.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: I mean, look, I like, like this isn't to say
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: that like you are. You know, people so many people
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: have done terrible things and we all have to like
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: kind of deal with our lives and improve and rectify
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: our mistakes and things like that. But like Tyra, you
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: you're a supermodel and we all know who you are,
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: and you had a TV show. That's not that we
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: don't have the same life trajectory. And like the recently,
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: like sometimes like when people are like, oh, that was
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: the way back then, that's what it was like back then. Yeah,
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: you know, you're right, but like we still need to
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: like understand it in order to move forward now, Like
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: we need to know why that was problematic, and like
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: we can we can add on that.
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: Label of like this is what it was like, this
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: is what it was like.
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: But like, how are we going to move forward if
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: we keep just ending that sentence and not analyzing it more?
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: You know, I want to And I think Tyra needs
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: to do that as well. If she wants us to
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: do it, then she has Like if she's saying that
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: we need to do the work, like her showing up
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: for four hours for a in her trench coat for
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: like a documentary to like answer a few questions and
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: then leave, Like that's not like rectifying your past. That's
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: just like, okay, for four hours, you kind of admitted
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: you did a mistake, but like what what are you
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: doing to improve?
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: Why do you think she doesn't live in America? I
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: think there's a don't say Trump, Oh yeah no, I
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: won't say that. I know well because I mean, she
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: a great reason, but not for hers. But what like
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: I think there's a nefarious reason.
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: I do too, Like my brain is just going there,
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: like I and and this could this is my ADHD brain.
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: Like there's something about listening to the Alice and Mac
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: docuseries and then listening to the America's Next Top Model
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: docuseries and having it meld together in your brain where
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, well, I wonder if she's like it's
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: money wandering, like I.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: Y yes, yes, yes, yeah, no, I know that's yeah,
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: I know if she can step foot back?
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: Yeah, like what if it is something like that? Like
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: and again we are just projecting. I'm not anyways saying,
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: but like it just it's interesting that her, like some
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: of the mannerisms that she has mimics the manner of
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: like complete psychopaths who have committed fraud.
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: That's correct, That is correct. Yeah, Okay, well that's the
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: end of that's the end of the entire document that
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: we went through, the entire thing. I mean, I could
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: talk to you for so much longer. I wonder because
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: you said obviously that podcast you listen to just uncovers
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: a new what's called change of or.
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: What was the curse of?
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: Yeah, like it could be curse of Rock of Love
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: or curse of Bigan who wants a Millionaire or like
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: all of those, any of those. It could be any
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: It could not be a reality show. I don't know.
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it could be cursive. I don't know. Like who knows,
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: like the state of Montana.
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: I know there's there's I mean, it's it's really funny
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: how we how we see the term curse these days,
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: I guess. And America's Next that model really was for
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: some people.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it's almost yeah, because now looking back then, someone
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: watch America's Next Top Models, Like what if they were
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: not models and they didn't have to do any challenges
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: and they were just always fighting and they made back
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: Girls Club?
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, And now like I mean, I'm obviously very
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: excited for this to the House of Villains, you know
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: what I mean, like that all.
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: Excited for that. Like it's I mean, I think like
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: the one thing like.
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: That in terms of like what people want from reality
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: TV is like Tyra, Like it felt like she was
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: under this like kind of pressure to like keep it interesting,
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: keep it interesting, and it's like, well, look how well
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: like Housewives and like below Jacker doing when they're not
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: doing like we're just watching people in a room, you know,
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: and people are fascinated, like there's no need to like
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: go above and beyond humul eight people when they're just
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: gonna humiliate themselves anyway, you know what I mean, Like.
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: Worse I agree. I wonder if it was because they
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: knew that there was no actual stakes to modeling, and
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: so that's they I mean, because nothing I don't know, yeah,
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: because there's nothing that could actually pan out. But I
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: obviously loved talking about this documentary with you, and thank
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: you so much for talking with me about it. I
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: feel like it was transformative for us. Were the same age.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: We just like it speaks to a lot about two
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: thousands women, culture, celebrity culture, pop culture. It was so
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: crazy to watch. Also not really well done.
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: Agreed, Yeah, yeah, yeah, very disjointed.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: Very disjointed, like for some reason, I guess because we
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: more things I'm used to, like documentaries where like the
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: director is the one asking the questions, so like you know,
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: like the Jinx or something, so to have like random
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: people like kind of because they would have the voices
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: of the documentary people asking and you can tell that
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: like they were not exciting questions and or kind of
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: just like boring, and so in my mind, I'm like, well,
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: that's why these answers are whatever, like it this was
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: made for like two dollars.
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it really felt like you know, you know, isn't
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: like Netflix doing those like train wreck shows, you know,
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: of just like trying it's like trying to like mimic
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: the how juicy the JINX was without like having something
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: that has enough juice in it or not going further
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: like many podcasts are doing and juicing the shit out
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: of it, you know. Like it's yeah, it just like
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: didn't there was Again, there was just so much that
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: that went unsaid in this documentary, in this docuseries. But
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: it's a really I think it's I'm glad I revisited it,
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: just being a millennial woman and seeing how much of
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: like things like that kind of imagery had an impact
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: on me and how it kind of still does and
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: just like like learning about things to like kind of
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: not a little bit on wines and like, oh, I
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: think that because of that, that's why, you know, And yeah,
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: I agree.
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: I think like the biggest thing that for some reason
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: I didn't realize, which is that, yeah, they can just
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: pick any picture. So they would just not pick the
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: best picture whoever they wanted a fucking have off. I
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: would just pick that person's ugliest picture. And it's an
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: easy when like look ugly you are, you don't get
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: to be my model. You're ugly you get to go home.
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: It's like so shitty. Yeah, And it made me happy
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: when Jade so early and I was like, oh, that's
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: not my best picture though, mm hmm.
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: So that was a great moment.
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: And the thing is is that when we watched it,
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: we thought she was being difficult and then oh no,
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: she wasn't.
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: She was like, that's not my best picture.
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: Like she wanted to play the game fairly, you know,
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: and it's just like it's just like interesting, like what
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: I thought back.
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: Then, like yeah, like how can you was like, I'm sorry,
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: I don't want to hear someone moaning in my ear
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: with a hard penis. Is that weird? No, oh I
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: have to do that? Or yeah, like again I forgot
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: her name, but she had her big Her storyline was
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: that she had had female circumcision. Yeah, I know.
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: Exactly who you're talking about.
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: Because she kept doing so well every time and then
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: they just like one one episode, We're like, we don't
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: want her anymore. Let's put in a bad picture and
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: kick her off.
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: You know the picture they put on her in the
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: Dog Mary. She has her arm up and she has
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: some arm hair, some some of her sh what it's
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: called armpit hair. Yeah, and you're like, oh my god,
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: this is this as you see was barely usable And
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: do you even know how expensive photoshop is when they
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: and it's like to hear that clip you did, to
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: know about how expensive photoshop is and to like think
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: about that as a model is like the Elo Elias
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: as like every Kardashian has like a fucking fake face
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: because now we're in the world of like face off
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: or what face tune or were like, it's so easy
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: to photoshop everything.
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: You know. Yeah, that was like it's interesting because I
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: think they were like taking advantage of like their naivete
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: and like how young they were. Like photoshop is really expensive,
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: and it's like, well, they're in the industry, so they
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: should know. I guess photoshopping is expensive versus when it's
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: like hmmm, yeah.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Every image on any sort of thing is photoshop you stop.
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, filters were around folks.
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: They put vasiline on ship back then.
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: I think about Tyra Banks's Basoline talk show moment that
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: I think about five times a day as well, when
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: she's like my number one beauty product is basiline and
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: her just going nuts at her talk show for like
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: five minutes. I think about that once a day, maybe
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: because I use a lot of vasoline butt.
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: Did you watch Tyra's talk show a lot?
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: I did. Yeah.
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: It was just like come on, like the gave we
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: come on, just like like when I would be homesick
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: or something, or like if I was at the doctor's office.
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: Or something, and it was like it would be one
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: of those shows that was on when she.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: Got up bout She's like, we're gonna have him. We
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: have her model reunion where I get to bring back
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: Shandy and absolute his watch her and traumatize her again.
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: I mean, and she did fucked up things on that
- 1:37:40Speaker 3: talk show as well. I mean, I know you want
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: to like end the but like the fat suit stuff
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: like that.
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: There was like the fat suit and then there was
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: like she like this was like really weird and I
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: and I don't know how I feel about this, but
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: she would show like pictures of you know, a man
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: who was like maybe looking, who's attractive or something, and
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: she would go to an Auniings member and it's like
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: he's cute, and then she's like, yeah, he's cute, and
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: then she's like he's a serial killer.
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: And then.
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: It's like that kind of shit, and it's like why
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: do we love serial killers?
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: Somebody? You know, And I'm just like seeing this audience and here.
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: Like it's just like like shit, like that is just
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: like so weird.
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: It feels like with Tyra and with like Ellen DeGeneres,
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: there was just like a weird vibe that you could
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: hit as a talk show where I'm going to horrify
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: one or two people in micro moments for the delightment
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: of me and possibly someone else watching.
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's like, do you like understand
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: the implication. It's like she doesn't understand the implications of
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: what she does. And I think no matter how down
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: to earth she becomes because of like her privileged lives,
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: like she just doesn't understand like the consequences of her actions,
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: And it's like will she ever? I don't know. I
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: think that if Sunset Boulevard was going to be recast
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: and like you were going to have like, you know,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: open again, I mean, can you imagine Tyra doing that shit?
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: Oh my god, she would. I mean she would be great.
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: I mean like her honey, like I'm ready for my
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: close up, Nigel Barker, She's holding a dead monkey.
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: Do you remember her song?
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: Wasn't it called like sexy or something or is like
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: freaky or booty or something like.
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: It ends with a y.
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: I feel like, okay, I'm looking it up. Okay, this
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: is oh god, Oh no, I hope that she didn't
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: take it off. Mmm for some reason. Shake your booty,
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: shake your body? This is what it is? Got it? Okay?
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: Here it is, Oh my god, shake your body? Jay's
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: wait is that? Oh wait, my love? There's two shake
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: your bodies and the Tyra Banks one didn't come up.
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: There's a version like how she must have and did
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: she take it? Wait one second, I'm okay, I just
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: want to see if I can find and then, because
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: it's definitely not on Apple Music, but I wonder if
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: it's on YouTube. I will unfortunately say that I think
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: I did like this move this song, like I think
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: that I did listen to it.
- 1:40:25Speaker 3: Of course, I bet you. I like sometimes when.
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: Like this is like Lindsay Lohan's rumors.
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: Not a good song.
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: This sounds like Kerry Hillston.
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: Yeah, this is it's a good song.
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: She can't sing.
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: No, it's all like what was it?
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: What did they was the voice vocoder or something like
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: it was who knows, but like there, I remember like
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: really enjoying Hilton song when it came out like that
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: her original.
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good song.
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh my god, it's so funny. I just like
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: hearing that again, I was like, oh, did Carrie Hilson
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: write this song? It sounds so much like one of
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: those like yeah, like thin voiced, but like hear a
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: soprano and then coming up that beat, Oh my god
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: years ago. Wow, it's featuring the Cycle two girls and
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: in the beginning j Manuel, Oh my god, this was
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: a fucking this. I mean, this is RuPaul's dragways.
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I think like RuPaul's drag Race was like, let's
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: fix the America's Next Time Model.
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: Yeah that's so funny. Okay, now I guess I'll end it.
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: What a I don't want to though, believe I can.
- 1:41:45Speaker 3: Still talk all night, all night.
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: I could pick up I could go through every season
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: at least for the first seven seasons. Just put up
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: very contesting bloodmember this one.
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: I mean I remember like when I first go out
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: to La seeing people from America's Next Top Model and
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: being like I just saw the Star of All Stars.
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean, I'm just like just
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: being like.
- 1:42:09Speaker 3: Whoa, I really live in La Nol.
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: Yeah, you're like at rock and roll Ralph's if you're
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: on the sunset, you're like that person's buying up. I know.
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I was definitely walking out of iow West going
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: to something and seeing them in on the Highland and
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: Kwenga or something, and just.
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: Like I live with celebrities now, models, actors, improvisers left right.
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: God, it's so great.
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, Tina Fay, that person from an America's
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: Next Top Model, the person who's.
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: In the Burger King commercial. I'm rich.
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, youth. Well we did it, my love. Okay,
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: So first of all, thank you obviously so much for
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: talking about this.
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: I would love I love you. I love talking with
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: you about pop culture. I'll talk about with you about
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: anything like a phone book I don't know if those
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: are around any.
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: I would talk about sex with you all day long.
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: Oh, I mean, I could talk about sex NonStop. I
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: love talking about it. Having it, we'll see, but talking about.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: It, yes, it depends on this is time and place
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: with who. But listen, you're Becky Feldman and your podcast

- 1:43:31Speaker 1: all of your information.
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: Yes, so the podcast is called Too Stupid to Live

- 1:43:54Speaker 2: stories of people who, like, I don't know, run over
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: their own face or something. But anyway, that's a side
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: note that's neither here nor there. You can edit what

- 1:44:17Speaker 3: I don't have any shows coming up.
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: I know I want to see you live.
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: I want to see you live.
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: Do you any shows coming up? Do I no, But
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: I'm seeing people's shows which we can talk about. Jesse
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: Roseen's doing a storytelling show at.
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: I'm gonna go. Yeah, I want to check it because
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: like she, I was like, do I want to submit something?
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: And so I'm going.
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: But I didn't have I was like, I couldn't. I couldn't.
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: It was I couldn't come up with anything.
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: First of all, I'm gonna end this and have conversation
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: with you that did the exact same thing, and so

- 1:44:51Speaker 1: A go and support your friends. Go and support live shows.
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: If you you know, if you're listening to this, you
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: probably have a friend listen more. Obviously you know comments
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: and actors. We have a friend that's doing a music show,
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: or you have a friend somewhere that's doing some art
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: or they're making some would work. And so if you
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: don't mind, it's a weird time in this world, but
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: definitely people would appreciate love and support. I think like
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: getting out and also spending quality visceral time in a
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: shared space with someone and a group of people could
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: be great all around. So highly recommend.
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: You couldn't be more correct and just acknowledgment of all
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: the hard work that we do and thank you for
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: all of that.
- 1:45:28Speaker 3: Everyone does.
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: I mean, you're putting on this great show in this
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: podcast like it's thank you, thank you. I'm acknowledging you.
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: Thank you. I want to be acknowledged obvious. I like
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: validation a lot. I love it. Yeah, do you want
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: to stay around for my breath work with people and

- 1:46:42Speaker 1: of yourself as well. I'm gonna do like a little
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: breath work, just two breaths, mindful moment where wherever you
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: are listening to, just if you don't mind indulging me
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: and bringing yourself to where we are in space and time,
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: allow yourself a little vacation from like the worry of
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: things that happened in the past, and a little space
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: from the constant planning of perfect planning the future. But
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: feed on the ground to breast the process of using
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: my voice or your own breath or anything else in

- 1:48:01Speaker 6: because she does make art every day, and she takes
- 1:48:04Speaker 6: care of herself and she loves others.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: Same for you. Take care of yourself and one another,
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: stand there for what you believe, and make art. All right, babes,
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: I'll talk to you later.
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: Things name
