- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, welcome to the nightly ritual of putting the
- 0:30chickens away. So tonight we are talking about
- 0:34stories that we tell ourselves during the day and how at the
- 0:38end of every day, we kind of sum up our in our head, what
- 0:42happened about the day through the day and we kind of make a
- 0:47conclusion about that. So we all do it.
- 0:50We do it very unconsciously. We're like, oh, it's the end of
- 0:53the day. I find myself walking out here
- 0:54and I'm like, OK, I want to sum it up.
- 0:56Is it a good day? Was it a decent day?
- 0:58Was it an off day? How am I feeling about the day?
- 1:01So many thoughts are ruminating in my head running around and
- 1:07the conclusion that I come to about this day is going to
- 1:10affect the next day. There's no question about it.
- 1:12So if I feel like I just, this was a bad day, I can't wait to
- 1:16sweep it under the table and I don't shake it off and take it,
- 1:20you know, away from my head. I will end up taking that with
- 1:24me for the next day. And that's one thing that I do
- 1:26not want to do. I never want to take and carry
- 1:29over one day into the next because that is unresourceful.
- 1:33So it's always about what can I do in order to like make sure I
- 1:37am shaking off the crap of that day.
- 1:40That is such a big piece of, of the, the dedicated work that one
- 1:44has to do to make sure we are okay mentally with one day to
- 1:49the next to the next to the next.
- 1:50Because if you think about it, we are stringing together all
- 1:54these different parts of ourselves throughout the week.
- 1:57And those the week becomes the month and the month becomes the
- 2:00year. And before you know it, you're
- 2:01in a certain spot and you're looking back on the year and
- 2:03you're going, well, this year sucked.
- 2:05And it's all based on how do we sum up the end of each day?
- 2:09What are we taking to the next day with us?
- 2:11So as you start to contemplate it, it, it's a very important
- 2:15decision to say, OK, I'm going to debrief my day.
- 2:17What are the facts that what happened, not just the emotions
- 2:21about what happened. What are the facts of what
- 2:23happened? So while I was walking out here
- 2:25and getting ready for this, I was thinking about, you know, I,
- 2:29I accomplished an awful lot today in one area and I
- 2:32accomplished nothing in another area.
- 2:35And I put it all aside because I have so much work.
- 2:39I can only, you know, focus on it at a certain point in time.
- 2:42But recently I've had family thing that has just taken me in
- 2:47a different direction. My daughter had a baby, so I've
- 2:50been helping out with taking food, cooking something that is
- 2:54not my skill set for her, and really working on my cooking
- 2:58skills. So I've been getting up very
- 3:00early, cooking meals and being able to take them over and drop
- 3:03them off and helping her out when I can in between sessions,
- 3:07setting aside time and helping her, you know, straighten out
- 3:10her house and do all this. And that to me is the highest
- 3:14priority right now. Working on other stuff,
- 3:17marketing, working, you know, on building out product for the
- 3:20company that's all on a back burner right now.
- 3:23So I could sit there and say, oh, I'm behind.
- 3:26I could do that, but I'm not, I could say I, we fell behind
- 3:31because of this. No, I feel like I'm way ahead
- 3:33because I'm taking the time to do the things that are important
- 3:36and it's forcing me actually to learn to cook, which I think is
- 3:40kind of awesome because I'm not necessarily someone who likes to
- 3:44cook. I like to bake, but I don't, I
- 3:46have historically not like to cook, but this family thing,
- 3:50this has really put me in a position where I'm OK, I'm going
- 3:55to do this because this is the thing to do.
- 3:57And thank goodness for Mr. Christopher Kimball and Milk St.
- 4:02cooking book cookbooks and they are outstanding.
- 4:05And I've been making some great, great food for her, which I feel
- 4:09proud of myself. So at the end of the day, I can
- 4:12debrief that I'm behind, but I can also debrief that I'm way
- 4:16ahead in another category. And that category is way more
- 4:19important. So assigning it the level of
- 4:22importance, it also helps you understand you are making
- 4:26progress in the areas that matter most, which are the
- 4:28personal ones, the things that you know are going to be the
- 4:32important ones at the end of your life, the end of your days.
- 4:36Now granted, I'm going to get back to the other stuff, I'm
- 4:38going to make it work, but right now this is the priority.
- 4:42So when you start to delineate your days, make sure you're
- 4:46taking into consideration those facts.
- 4:49Make sure you're taking into consideration how everything
- 4:51piles up because what's important is how many lives did
- 4:55you touch? What's important is how many
- 4:57people did you make smile? What's important is did you, did
- 5:01you fill your soul up? Because that's what will always
- 5:04make the difference in the end. That's what will always make the
- 5:06difference. So debrief, check in, make sure
- 5:11you're not carrying it over day-to-day with you, and give
- 5:13yourself a huge mental hug for knowing you did that job well.
- 5:17Because guess what? That's what matters.
- 5:20All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:22will see you all tomorrow. Bye.
