- 0:39Speaker 2: Oh we're here, geez, I'm so used to something going
- 0:43Speaker 2: on after that.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Faith Matt's still sick. Matt Morrell is on death's doorstep.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Otherwise he'd be here. Not literally, No, of course, I
- 0:53Speaker 2: wouldn't say it an true, but yeah, Faith is back
- 0:57Speaker 2: in the booth. We have we do have faith. You
- 1:01Speaker 2: gotta have faith. Yeah, Faith, it's Deuce, it's alex Evan.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Will be here after mister Zappi finishes his press conference.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Paul is cheating on us. He sure is, he's on that.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Others he's on one of his stations spewing his hot
- 1:16Speaker 2: takes nothing sadder than the holiday fill in host I'm
- 1:19Speaker 2: telling you not for Paul. He loves it. You know,
- 1:21Speaker 2: twenty minutes into every show, it's okay, favorite Christmas movie,
- 1:25Speaker 2: and then once Christmas is over, it's like, you know,
- 1:29Speaker 2: is New Year's an overrated holiday? Oh? Man, I think
- 1:33Speaker 2: it is?
- 1:33Speaker 5: But are We're not gonna We're not doing that.
- 1:36Speaker 2: That's for those that don't have any new.
- 1:37Speaker 4: To talk before we get tu into it. Can you
- 1:38Speaker 4: guys hear me?
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I can't hear myself.
- 1:42Speaker 6: So okay, nothing, all right, we'll just go with it.
- 1:45Speaker 2: We can hear you.
- 1:46Speaker 5: It's gonna be like the old Zoom shows when we
- 1:48Speaker 5: had to do him like remotely and you can never
- 1:49Speaker 5: hear yourself talking, and you would like try to say
- 1:51Speaker 5: jokes and it like did I did? I fall completely flat?
- 1:55Speaker 5: No one's even responding.
- 1:55Speaker 4: But yeah, the reason I like.
- 1:57Speaker 6: It is because it's it's harder to talk over each
- 2:00Speaker 6: each other when you can hear yourself and everyone in
- 2:02Speaker 6: the headphone.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:04Speaker 5: Interesting, Yeah, well that was why the the shows on
- 2:07Speaker 5: Zoom We're probably were all coming, you know, talking on
- 2:09Speaker 5: each other.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Oh, we have to worry. Paul's not here today. That's right.
- 2:12Speaker 5: We're not going to yell at us for doing things wrong,
- 2:15Speaker 5: saying wrong things.
- 2:16Speaker 2: So much more subdued when he's on like one of
- 2:19Speaker 2: his shows. Oh yeah, you know, he's like mister professional.
- 2:22Speaker 2: You know, it's like Paul yourself.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Who is this guy?
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 2:25Speaker 5: No, he's he's great. I'm sure he's having fun. This
- 2:27Speaker 5: is where this is where he gets all his recognition from.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Sobey's out and about and you know, the fans of
- 2:31Speaker 5: Paul Perilla come up. I mean, those are my favorite
- 2:33Speaker 5: stories about Paul getting recognized in public. You know, like
- 2:37Speaker 5: you feel somebody lurking and they're like, what's this guy doing?
- 2:39Speaker 5: He's kind of staring at us, just standing then all,
- 2:41Speaker 5: you know, whenever it happens with both of us, I
- 2:43Speaker 5: there he isn't you know? He always tries to be like, oh,
- 2:45Speaker 5: induced too, and like you don't you don't know who?
- 2:46Speaker 2: I like the ones that Paul you're You're not that old.
- 2:51Speaker 2: You seem older, unfiltered.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Grumpy ole man.
- 2:55Speaker 2: All right, so what do we got we got It's Wednesday. Yeah,
- 2:58Speaker 2: weird schedule. We hear from Bill today.
- 3:01Speaker 5: We heard some good stuff from him which I just
- 3:04Speaker 5: thought was interesting and I wish Paul was here because
- 3:06Speaker 5: it was great. You know, I know Paul always has
- 3:08Speaker 5: this thing of you know that Bill doesn't really respect
- 3:10Speaker 5: Josh Allen all that much. I think it was what
- 3:12Speaker 5: was it like one of the commentators, well, like one
- 3:16Speaker 5: of the commentators a couple of years ago said like
- 3:18Speaker 5: during like one of the games, like during the pregame meeting,
- 3:22Speaker 5: I think was Lewis Ridick maybe like.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Like spilled some beans of what Paul what Bill had said.
- 3:26Speaker 5: It was a few years a few years ago, and
- 3:28Speaker 5: today they asked him, you know, when did you kind
- 3:31Speaker 5: of realize that that this is who he is now?
- 3:34Speaker 5: And he compared him to Brady. I mean he said,
- 3:36Speaker 5: you know, midway through the two thousand and three season,
- 3:38Speaker 5: which is twenty years ago and little teaser two thousand
- 3:41Speaker 5: and three sound out, is he coming up soon? But
- 3:44Speaker 5: he said once Brady kind of hit that mode in
- 3:45Speaker 5: two thousand and three midway through the season, that was
- 3:48Speaker 5: who he was. He hit that next level and he
- 3:50Speaker 5: was dominant. So it was just, you know, kind of
- 3:51Speaker 5: interesting always to hear Bill talk about those things and
- 3:55Speaker 5: give his perspective, because obviously we all watch those games,
- 3:57Speaker 5: we have our perspective. I know Paul thinks that that
- 3:59Speaker 5: Tom was good in two thousand and two. Even in
- 4:01Speaker 5: some of my interviews for that project, some people are,
- 4:03Speaker 5: you know, he wasn't that great.
- 4:04Speaker 2: He was inconsistent.
- 4:05Speaker 5: I think there's there's a little bit of, you know,
- 4:08Speaker 5: discussion as to how good Brady was in two thousand
- 4:10Speaker 5: and two, But I just I thought that part was
- 4:11Speaker 5: really cool.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah, Like you know, today, Bill said in three Brady
- 4:16Speaker 2: became who he was going to become.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I think he said week six, like he had it
- 4:19Speaker 2: right down to the week.
- 4:21Speaker 5: Right, and I got a look which one and he.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Said the same for Josh Allen his third year, he
- 4:25Speaker 2: kind of became who he is now.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, yeah, and he's I mean, it's just
- 4:31Speaker 5: interesting going back. I think he's actually Allen's five and
- 4:33Speaker 5: five versus the Patriots, which just doesn't feel right, Like
- 4:35Speaker 5: it just feels like they've kind of owned them until
- 4:38Speaker 5: the Patriots beat them this year and then the win
- 4:40Speaker 5: game of course that they got on him. But he's
- 4:42Speaker 5: a great player, and he's a great player, and that's
- 4:44Speaker 5: just it's frustrating talking to the coaches yesterday. I was
- 4:47Speaker 5: talking to Mike he's.
- 4:48Speaker 2: The quarterback Gronk not with the goofiness, but like I'm
- 4:51Speaker 2: the best guy in the field.
- 4:52Speaker 5: He's just tough, yeah, and he can physically just take
- 4:55Speaker 5: over a game. And it's like the two things that
- 4:57Speaker 5: make you fear the moster. And I said it to
- 4:59Speaker 5: Mike pel Greeno. I was like, look on, gotta have
- 5:02Speaker 5: it third downs. I know it's going to digs. You know,
- 5:05Speaker 5: it's going to digs, Like how do you kind of
- 5:06Speaker 5: coach that? And if it doesn't go there, I'm gonna
- 5:08Speaker 5: run exactly. And those are the two biggest things. I mean,
- 5:10Speaker 5: not to take anything away from Gabe Davis, who you know,
- 5:13Speaker 5: had a good game last week and you know, is
- 5:15Speaker 5: making some big plays. And Shakiir who's uh Shakida Shakida Shakida,
- 5:19Speaker 5: who's emerging a little bit in the slot for them.
- 5:22Speaker 5: So Dalton kin Kaid's given them some some additional uh
- 5:26Speaker 5: you know, targets for him, and James cook Is is
- 5:28Speaker 5: playing pretty well too. So they're just they're tough all around.
- 5:31Speaker 5: And the Patriot's gonna be I think.
- 5:33Speaker 2: It's going to be great. Not that the Patriots need
- 5:35Speaker 2: to be tested at this point, you know, because there's
- 5:37Speaker 2: really nothing to get ready for, but it'll be a
- 5:41Speaker 2: good game in that Buffalo's playing for their playoff lives,
- 5:44Speaker 2: You're going to get the best of them. Yep, you know.
- 5:46Speaker 2: So what you know, Patriots have won their last two
- 5:50Speaker 2: or three games. Who are they? You know, is Denver
- 5:53Speaker 2: really any good? Is Pittsburgh really any good? You know,
- 5:56Speaker 2: going in, we thought Pittsburgh was, but now they've kind
- 5:59Speaker 2: of all apart Denver? You know, So can the Patriots
- 6:03Speaker 2: really put it together and be competitive with a team
- 6:07Speaker 2: that is playing really good football right now with talented players.
- 6:11Speaker 5: But has some warts and how's you know? I mean
- 6:13Speaker 5: they beat him once? A.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no team in the NFL that doesn't sure,
- 6:16Speaker 2: you know, let's let's say that. But right now, of
- 6:18Speaker 2: the teams that are vying for a playoff spot, Buffalo
- 6:23Speaker 2: is probably playing as well as anyone.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Right They've gotten at the perfect time.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah, like forty nine ers fell off a cliff yesterday
- 6:29Speaker 2: or two days ago, you know, But the Bills last
- 6:32Speaker 2: couple of games have been playing their best. You know,
- 6:34Speaker 2: they aren't.
- 6:35Speaker 5: It's it's I think it's the proverbial the team that
- 6:38Speaker 5: nobody wants to play because it's Josh, I mean, I
- 6:39Speaker 5: still think, you know, with Kelsey's kind of slowing down,
- 6:42Speaker 5: and you know, you've seen some injuries to Mark Andrews.
- 6:45Speaker 5: It's it's still the most reliable connection I think in
- 6:47Speaker 5: the AFC is Digs and Allen and that's you know,
- 6:49Speaker 5: the hardest thing I think to stop of all the
- 6:51Speaker 5: AFC teams left standing at this point. So you just
- 6:54Speaker 5: you can't rule that out. And for all the reasons
- 6:56Speaker 5: we said, and Josh Allen still has that ability to
- 6:58Speaker 5: take the game into his hand. And you know, it
- 7:00Speaker 5: seems like they're doing better since they've moved to Joe
- 7:02Speaker 5: Brady a little bit. But you know, it's just I'm
- 7:05Speaker 5: really interested in this game. Just it's just look, I
- 7:07Speaker 5: think we all you know, we talked about as the
- 7:09Speaker 5: ship sailed on Bill and all that, and you know,
- 7:12Speaker 5: it's a win over Denver is one thing, but you know.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Win over Buffalo, win Buffalo, well, they're fighting for their lives. Oh,
- 7:18Speaker 2: I don't know, your god.
- 7:19Speaker 5: It's like, I mean, maybe, yeah, yeah, the team no
- 7:23Speaker 5: one wants to play bellfait I don't. I mean I
- 7:25Speaker 5: I My feeling is they're gonna fight really hard, but
- 7:28Speaker 5: it's just not gonna be enough at the end of
- 7:29Speaker 5: the day.
- 7:30Speaker 2: And the Bills have a coach who uh they you know,
- 7:34Speaker 2: they haven't been losing like the Patriots, but he's on
- 7:36Speaker 2: the hot seat a little bit. Like if they don't
- 7:37Speaker 2: make the playoffs, there's gonna be a lot of doubters
- 7:40Speaker 2: of McDermott. Yeah, and there were prior to them starting
- 7:42Speaker 2: to play well.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Yeah, not just with the coach.
- 7:44Speaker 6: I think the whole team is gonna definitely face some wrinkles,
- 7:48Speaker 6: digs especially and just the person like the egos, how
- 7:52Speaker 6: it all plays out, Yeah, definitely would be interesting. But
- 7:54Speaker 6: it's just so hard to be a team twice within
- 7:57Speaker 6: the same season, especially when like we stole that.
- 7:59Speaker 5: Game from the Bills, except for like the twenty years
- 8:02Speaker 5: we did it to Buffalo Premier right, that was like
- 8:06Speaker 5: totally special, crazy situation.
- 8:08Speaker 2: But back then there were only a few seasons where
- 8:11Speaker 2: they were six and oh in the division. Now they are.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I mean Miami was always lost a game in the division.
- 8:17Speaker 2: It's hard to beat your division, you know, to go
- 8:20Speaker 2: to sweep your division.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Yeah, the Buffalo got them I think in twelve maybe
- 8:24Speaker 5: up in Buffalo, but I think they had a long
- 8:27Speaker 5: I mean, she'sus, it's I mean, everything's just more impressive
- 8:30Speaker 5: now in hindsight of just the continued dominance over these teams.
- 8:34Speaker 5: And we talked about, you know now being a you know,
- 8:36Speaker 5: a fourth place team in the AFC. So let's call
- 8:38Speaker 5: it what it is like, you know, how do you
- 8:39Speaker 5: catch up? How do you know? And you can see
- 8:41Speaker 5: how those other teams were constantly trying to figure out
- 8:44Speaker 5: how to catch the Patriots and and it was just
- 8:46Speaker 5: you know, three to four season cycles where you have
- 8:49Speaker 5: a quarterback and a coach, they get hammered by the
- 8:51Speaker 5: Patriots probably whatever how many times, and then you turn
- 8:54Speaker 5: it over, they try something else, and you know, it's just.
- 8:57Speaker 2: They Patriots would force them into making decision before they
- 9:01Speaker 2: wanted to. Yeah, and a lot of times they'd make
- 9:04Speaker 2: bad decisions because of the urgency.
- 9:06Speaker 5: It's hard to like, I mean, you think about the
- 9:08Speaker 5: Patriots went ten years without winning a Super Bowl, and
- 9:12Speaker 5: you know, there was never really a feeling that should.
- 9:14Speaker 2: We blow this up?
- 9:15Speaker 5: Like I mean, not blow it up, blow it up,
- 9:16Speaker 5: but like like Alex was saying about Buffalo where I mean, look,
- 9:19Speaker 5: they've they've been pretty good. I mean they haven't gotten
- 9:21Speaker 5: to the super Bowl yet, but they've you know, fought
- 9:23Speaker 5: hard up to the AFC Championship game, and they have
- 9:25Speaker 5: a lot of talent and they're put together well, but
- 9:29Speaker 5: it's hard to make that case, like and I you know,
- 9:30Speaker 5: and as Alex laid out, like McDermott being on the
- 9:33Speaker 5: hot seat, maybe if they missed the playoffs, and I mean,
- 9:36Speaker 5: I guess the Patriots never missed the playoffs, and if
- 9:38Speaker 5: they did, you had good reason to believe, you know, eight,
- 9:41Speaker 5: but you didn't have Brady, you.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Know, but that was it, you know.
- 9:43Speaker 5: Otherwise they were pretty much in contention unless they got upset,
- 9:47Speaker 5: like you know, which a.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Terrible season is losing in the AFC Championship.
- 9:50Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I mean, I mean the worst seasons of
- 9:52Speaker 5: you know, we're losing to the Jets in twenty ten.
- 9:54Speaker 5: But I mean, you know, even that team I think
- 9:56Speaker 5: was overrated, just like they overachieved. And I mean, I
- 10:00Speaker 5: I mean, my dad once said that to my college
- 10:02Speaker 5: hockey coach, I think you guys overachieved this year. And like, Dad,
- 10:05Speaker 5: don't say that to the coach. He's gonna go nuts
- 10:07Speaker 5: hearing that, like that we overachieved, that we weren't that good.
- 10:10Speaker 5: But I think that twenty ten Patriots team and even
- 10:12Speaker 5: the twenty eleven.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Rex Ryan was a very good defensive coach, and he
- 10:18Speaker 2: had the Patriots number that that in that particular game,
- 10:21Speaker 2: he knew exactly what he's gonna do. They executed right,
- 10:24Speaker 2: and I think the Patriots kind of you know, they
- 10:25Speaker 2: had just slaughtered them. Yeah, and I think they got
- 10:28Speaker 2: caught by surprise.
- 10:30Speaker 5: And it came unfolded perfectly for the Jazz.
- 10:32Speaker 2: It was one of those games where Brady was frustrated,
- 10:35Speaker 2: you know, things weren't working the way they were supposed
- 10:38Speaker 2: to work. Uh So, Yeah, I mean I remember that
- 10:42Speaker 2: game vividly.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Well, like that the O nine team they got exposed
- 10:44Speaker 5: by Buffalo or by by Baltimore. I mean those then,
- 10:47Speaker 5: those teams, I don't think that you really truly believed
- 10:49Speaker 5: that that though they were true contenders. You just had
- 10:51Speaker 5: Brady and you had Belichick, and you know, you knew
- 10:54Speaker 5: that they would give everybody pretty much a hard time.
- 10:56Speaker 5: But that nine game where the but you know Baltimore
- 10:59Speaker 5: came out of that Lincoln was twenty one nothing.
- 11:01Speaker 2: That was over the first quarter, right, Yeah.
- 11:03Speaker 5: But again, funny that in retrospect, like I remember being
- 11:07Speaker 5: down like whatever, it was twenty one nothing in the
- 11:08Speaker 5: Ravens and then like twenty eight to three happens, and
- 11:11Speaker 5: then you're like, like, it's twenty one.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Nothing that bad.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Like I think like if that game had happened after
- 11:15Speaker 5: twenty eight to three, you'd be like, all right, it's
- 11:17Speaker 5: twenty nothing. But like, you never know, we get something
- 11:19Speaker 5: going like we did twenty three.
- 11:21Speaker 2: But the difference was in that Falcons game, they were
- 11:23Speaker 2: kind of moving the ball. It just you know, you
- 11:26Speaker 2: felt like they were on the brink of kind of
- 11:28Speaker 2: getting things together. Yeah, you know. In the Ravens game, no, no, never, never.
- 11:33Speaker 5: I mean it was just.
- 11:34Speaker 2: They're getting beating every aspect of the game.
- 11:36Speaker 5: And I mean I love Paul's story about walking out
- 11:38Speaker 5: of the door right here and hearing Ray Lewis just
- 11:40Speaker 5: give the pump ups before that game and looking at
- 11:42Speaker 5: Andy being like, oh, this is gonna be a tough one.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:45Speaker 5: But that was, you know, the Ravens time, and especially
- 11:48Speaker 5: in twenty twelve, that was you know, that that team
- 11:50Speaker 5: coming together and hey, look Joe Flacco is still doing great.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Yeah all right? Eight five to five Pass five hundred
- 11:55Speaker 2: is the a stick on hotline web radio at pages
- 11:58Speaker 2: dot com. Is the email address you know you listen
- 12:01Speaker 2: to Bill today and smiling, yeah, laughing. We wouldn't know that.
- 12:06Speaker 2: A couple jokes, you know. You know, according to Giardi,
- 12:09Speaker 2: he had a report that Bill's kind of indicated to
- 12:12Speaker 2: some people downstairs that he's not certain about the future. Yep,
- 12:15Speaker 2: but you wouldn't know it today. And I talked to somebody,
- 12:19Speaker 2: you know over in football. They said, yeah, I mean,
- 12:21Speaker 2: spirits are up. You know, people aren't walking around with
- 12:24Speaker 2: their head down. They're going about doing their job the
- 12:27Speaker 2: same way they have. It's business as usual down there.
- 12:30Speaker 5: Like we have a laundry list of you know, complaints
- 12:33Speaker 5: about Bill, and people call in and give their laundry
- 12:35Speaker 5: list too. But I think one thing I have always
- 12:37Speaker 5: respected about him, and one of the things that I
- 12:39Speaker 5: think that makes him just, you know, a great coach.
- 12:41Speaker 2: It's just his ability.
- 12:42Speaker 5: To compartmentalize things and focus on one day at a time.
- 12:46Speaker 5: And it's super annoying to you know, the media sometimes
- 12:48Speaker 5: when they want to look ahead or they want to
- 12:50Speaker 5: look back. But I think that that's one of his
- 12:52Speaker 5: his true powers as a coach, is the ability to
- 12:56Speaker 5: stay in the moment and to you know, and I
- 12:57Speaker 5: think it's really important for any coach to you know,
- 12:59Speaker 5: not get carried away with what could or happen, is
- 13:02Speaker 5: what can we do today? And I think he's maintained that.
- 13:04Speaker 5: I would bet if you're in that locker room, it's
- 13:06Speaker 5: it's not that much different than it was if they
- 13:08Speaker 5: if they if you've inversed the record and you know,
- 13:10Speaker 5: they had had won fourteen games or whatever their record's
- 13:12Speaker 5: at now.
- 13:13Speaker 2: And other news, Tonight is the night the Pro Football
- 13:18Speaker 2: Hall of Fame Committee announces their fifteen finalists.
- 13:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Uh, and Rodney Harrison and Vince Wolfork are among those
- 13:26Speaker 2: who could be in that group. So we'll see what happens.
- 13:30Speaker 5: Rodney's got to get in. I mean, I just, you know,
- 13:32Speaker 5: no disrespect at least the finalists. Yeah, but he, I mean,
- 13:34Speaker 5: he's got to get to the final. He's I mean
- 13:36Speaker 5: he's been I think this is his third years as
- 13:38Speaker 5: a semi finalist, so this would be his first year
- 13:40Speaker 5: getting to the finals.
- 13:41Speaker 2: And it's a tough crop this year. Yeah, some good names,
- 13:44Speaker 2: there's some really good.
- 13:45Speaker 5: I mean, he's a good name, you know. I just
- 13:46Speaker 5: and I go back to, you know, Scott Piolia a
- 13:48Speaker 5: few weeks ago tweeted out just a comparison, you know
- 13:51Speaker 5: to some of the other safeties that are in the league.
- 13:53Speaker 5: And it's just like, how this guy is one of
- 13:54Speaker 5: two players that has like what fifty sacks and fifteen interceptions,
- 13:57Speaker 5: I mean, and we all know here what he meant
- 14:00Speaker 5: to this team. And you know, you lose Lawyer malloy,
- 14:02Speaker 5: but then you almost get like Lawyer Malloy intensity plus
- 14:05Speaker 5: one with Rodney Harrison and you know the intensity that
- 14:08Speaker 5: again in the old three podcasts talking to some of
- 14:10Speaker 5: those guys that you know, the second he walked on,
- 14:13Speaker 5: he was serious about practice. He was serious, you know,
- 14:17Speaker 5: just like Tom was. And and I think that you know,
- 14:19Speaker 5: he helped push that defense, you know, not not in
- 14:22Speaker 5: a different direction, but he pushed him, you know, in
- 14:25Speaker 5: a way that they needed to be pushed to get
- 14:27Speaker 5: to that lot.
- 14:27Speaker 2: He was the perfect guy for Bill, you know, just
- 14:30Speaker 2: like Tom was, because he held other guys accountable first
- 14:34Speaker 2: in last out, you know, making practices really competitive. You know,
- 14:40Speaker 2: some of the exchanges that he had with Brady and
- 14:42Speaker 2: practices or legendary. You know, they just got on each
- 14:45Speaker 2: other's nerves more more Rodney getting on Tom's nerves. But like, yeah,
- 14:51Speaker 2: he you know, he would make He would be on
- 14:54Speaker 2: guys who you know, weren't in the lot of the
- 14:57Speaker 2: weight room early. You know, I mean he was. He
- 15:01Speaker 2: was a perfect guy for Bill to be one of
- 15:03Speaker 2: those locker room sheriffs. Yeah, I mean, and you know not.
- 15:06Speaker 5: I mean, look, everyone's going to jump down my throat
- 15:08Speaker 5: and if Paul was here, he would laugh. But you know,
- 15:10Speaker 5: Jibill Peppers, it's not It's similar to me the way
- 15:13Speaker 5: that that he is intense and you know, the energy
- 15:16Speaker 5: that he's brought, especially this year as he's emerged as
- 15:18Speaker 5: a leader, and you know, I think it gives guys
- 15:21Speaker 5: more of the okay to kind of feed off of that.
- 15:22Speaker 5: Last year he was kind of behind the scenes. He
- 15:24Speaker 5: was a role player. He was, you know, making plays
- 15:25Speaker 5: on special teams. But he knew and you know, coming
- 15:28Speaker 5: off an injury, and even he you know, admitted that
- 15:30Speaker 5: he wasn't you know, quite himself just yet. But now
- 15:33Speaker 5: you're in the system, has confidence in himself, and you know,
- 15:36Speaker 5: it's just a similar thing. You see how some of
- 15:38Speaker 5: these free agents can come in and just change the
- 15:40Speaker 5: dynamic of the defense. And I mean, I think that
- 15:43Speaker 5: this was a very good defense and they were intense,
- 15:45Speaker 5: but At the same time, I think, like Peppers with
- 15:47Speaker 5: his playmaking ability that backs it up. You know, it's
- 15:50Speaker 5: not just hey, I'm a I'm a tough guy who
- 15:52Speaker 5: wants to play and it is going to be flying
- 15:54Speaker 5: to the ball, But I'm also guys that that makes
- 15:56Speaker 5: game changing plays. And you know, they've had some of
- 15:58Speaker 5: those guys to buy emerge and so I think, you know,
- 16:01Speaker 5: those are guys that you can feel a little good about.
- 16:04Speaker 5: Not to say he's on the Rodney Harrison path, but
- 16:05Speaker 5: I see him as a similar kind of leader.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Yep, what else anything before we go to the emails
- 16:11Speaker 2: and callers.
- 16:12Speaker 6: Small little nugget, but it looks like the Broncos are
- 16:14Speaker 6: going to be benching Russell Wilson.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Oh wow, we broke Russell because he's because he's hurt.
- 16:20Speaker 6: Stitty, because they don't want to get him hurt their
- 16:23Speaker 6: next two games.
- 16:24Speaker 5: I don't know, Wow, that's kind of interesting. I mean,
- 16:28Speaker 5: I I love to hear again, not to keep bringing
- 16:31Speaker 5: Paul up, but but I mean, he he said he
- 16:33Speaker 5: wasn't impressed with him. I mean, he's just you know,
- 16:35Speaker 5: he thought a lot of it was just Russell Wilson
- 16:37Speaker 5: not playing well. So weird season for them.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Though, saying very actively fighting for the playoff spots right
- 16:43Speaker 4: now too.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So it's like, yeah, so are they conceding or the
- 16:47Speaker 2: playoff spot.
- 16:48Speaker 4: Or do they think Stidham gives them a better I.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Can't believe that.
- 16:51Speaker 2: I mean, as bad as you know Paul might think.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Russell Wilson is he was the only reason they got
- 16:57Speaker 2: back in that game. Yeah, he figured out how to
- 17:00Speaker 2: avoid the rush, give himself time and made some plays.
- 17:03Speaker 2: You know that said, No, Russell Wilson hasn't been playing well,
- 17:07Speaker 2: but they got no shot without him. I know.
- 17:10Speaker 5: Well, I mean we'll we'll finally get a look at
- 17:12Speaker 5: your at Stidham.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Who uh yeah. Some other quarterback news, Tyrod Taylor is
- 17:16Speaker 2: gonna start for the Giants and old friend Jacobe Brissett's
- 17:20Speaker 2: gonna start for the Commanders. Yeah that for him. Yeah,
- 17:23Speaker 2: he's been playing pretty well.
- 17:25Speaker 5: You know, he's still a guy I would I would
- 17:26Speaker 5: consider next year if you know, you're looking for kind
- 17:28Speaker 5: of a bridge guy, but somebody that you don't want
- 17:30Speaker 5: to have to pay as a true starter, but could
- 17:34Speaker 5: keep the seat warm, could win you a couple of
- 17:35Speaker 5: games maybe, but without like giving the illusion that hey,
- 17:39Speaker 5: this is the guy, which I mean we I mean,
- 17:41Speaker 5: this is another thing we've gotten into with cousins and
- 17:43Speaker 5: you know, paying those guys. What are you going to
- 17:45Speaker 5: pay him? What's the role going to be?
- 17:47Speaker 2: And I don't know.
- 17:48Speaker 5: After yesterday's talk though, I'm still kind of curious what
- 17:50Speaker 5: happens with Mac Jones. Yeah, Like do they keep them
- 17:52Speaker 5: to they you know, let him compete. Do they have
- 17:55Speaker 5: to get him out? You know, do they give him
- 17:56Speaker 5: a fresh chance? Does Mac want to get it? You know,
- 17:58Speaker 5: does Mac kind of ask for trade? You know, I
- 18:00Speaker 5: think that's possible too.
- 18:02Speaker 2: You Know, It's funny because when Lamar Jackson came in
- 18:05Speaker 2: the league, he can't last. He's you know, that's style court.
- 18:08Speaker 2: He's going to get hurt all the time. Now when
- 18:10Speaker 2: you look at the league, he's like last other than
- 18:13Speaker 2: Josh Allen, He's like the last man standing in terms
- 18:16Speaker 2: of like hell right, you know, for the top tier quarterbacks,
- 18:19Speaker 2: I mean, you.
- 18:19Speaker 5: Know, and then Joe Burrow, who everybody he's hurt the second.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrence is hurt. Now Holmes, he's not hurt, but
- 18:27Speaker 2: his feelings are hurt, you know, like all the other
- 18:30Speaker 2: top quarterbacks are hurting.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Did you see that picture of Brittany Mahomes and uh
- 18:34Speaker 5: and Taylor Swift at the end of the game, like
- 18:36Speaker 5: Taylor Swift's kind of like consoling Brittany Mahomes and both
- 18:39Speaker 5: just like like horrified, Like I don't know, I just
- 18:41Speaker 5: I'm waiting with baited breath for the turning of the
- 18:45Speaker 5: Swifties against the Chiefs fans and the Chiefs fans against.
- 18:48Speaker 2: The swift happening.
- 18:49Speaker 6: You know, stats that were like since they started dating,
- 18:54Speaker 6: the Chiefs have this losing record and it's like they've
- 18:57Speaker 6: been dating all season.
- 18:59Speaker 5: Well, we saw it with with Tom and Gizelle and
- 19:01Speaker 5: that was you know, a big part of that ten
- 19:03Speaker 5: year gap was I think he met her in like
- 19:05Speaker 5: six and you know that was a big thing with
- 19:08Speaker 5: and then it was you know, he can't throw the ball,
- 19:10Speaker 5: and it was just you know, if you don't like
- 19:13Speaker 5: that team, it's just the gift that keeps on giving
- 19:15Speaker 5: because you just get you know, you have someone in
- 19:16Speaker 5: the spotlight to continue to kind of throw in there.
- 19:19Speaker 2: All right, Well, with Paul out here, we have a
- 19:22Speaker 2: lot more time to talk because get some thoughts off
- 19:26Speaker 2: and oxygen to breathe too. But let's go to the phones.
- 19:30Speaker 2: The A stick and hutline will start with Jeremy in Saskatchewan. Oh,
- 19:34Speaker 2: Jeremy Canada. You can't be on home for more than
- 19:37Speaker 2: eight minutes and they shut you off. So apparently, so
- 19:41Speaker 2: let's go to Colleen in Houston. What's up, Colleen?
- 19:45Speaker 1: Hey guys, Hey, hey.
- 19:47Speaker 7: Love you love you love the show. So I'm homesick
- 19:54Speaker 7: right now. So I'm feeling a little sentimental and remembering
- 19:58Speaker 7: in twenty nineteen we knew it be Brady's last season
- 20:03Speaker 7: and he was just grumpy in every single press conference,
- 20:08Speaker 7: and this is probably Belichick's last season, and he's not
- 20:13Speaker 7: that grumpy. And so I'm just wondering if you guys
- 20:17Speaker 7: are feeling nostalgic like me, like just appreciating everything he's
- 20:23Speaker 7: given to us and when he's a little fun sometimes.
- 20:29Speaker 7: And also just side note, Travis Kelsey's play being blamed
- 20:35Speaker 7: on Taylor Swift is ridiculous.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Anyway, that's it, all right, Thanks Colleen. It's an interesting
- 20:42Speaker 2: You know, Brady was the most depressed eight and no
- 20:46Speaker 2: quarterback ever that season because he kind of knew what
- 20:49Speaker 2: was coming down the line and he was taking it personally,
- 20:53Speaker 2: you know, like this team isn't respecting me in many
- 20:58Speaker 2: different ways, you know, contract players around me and despite
- 21:05Speaker 2: them being eight, no, he knew it was kind of
- 21:07Speaker 2: smoking mirrors.
- 21:08Speaker 5: So you know, it's a really good contrasts.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, and so and he showed it, he
- 21:12Speaker 2: wore it on his sleeve, whereas Bill, you know, could
- 21:17Speaker 2: maybe thinking the same thing, where you know, the Crafts
- 21:20Speaker 2: don't respect me, you know the fact that they're not
- 21:22Speaker 2: backing me up in public or anything like that. But
- 21:25Speaker 2: I don't think that. Obviously, he doesn't have the same
- 21:30Speaker 2: type of outward emotion that Brady does. He's, like you said, dude,
- 21:34Speaker 2: he can compartmentalize. And I also think, and I said
- 21:37Speaker 2: it a couple of weeks ago, if I'm Bill Belichick,
- 21:40Speaker 2: I'm kind of excited about the future. You know, I'm
- 21:43Speaker 2: seventy I'm seventy two. I'm for seventy two. I think
- 21:46Speaker 2: he's in good health. You know, physically, he can do
- 21:50Speaker 2: whatever he wants. If he wants to coach a team,
- 21:52Speaker 2: he can do that. If he wants to go into
- 21:54Speaker 2: broadcasting and do that and go coach lacrosse, he can
- 21:57Speaker 2: do whatever. Like the world's is always you know, so
- 22:01Speaker 2: I'd be kind of excited if five with him. On
- 22:04Speaker 2: the other hand, like you know, the Patriots that was,
- 22:07Speaker 2: you know, a big history that he has here that
- 22:10Speaker 2: you know might be ending. But knowing you know, the
- 22:14Speaker 2: way Bill operates, he can compartmentalize that and not show
- 22:18Speaker 2: it like Brady did.
- 22:20Speaker 5: Especially talking to the media who were all actively, you know,
- 22:23Speaker 5: reporting that he's out for all we.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Know, Belichick wants to get out of here just as
- 22:27Speaker 2: much as Brady did. Yeah, but he's not going to
- 22:30Speaker 2: show it like Brady showed it.
- 22:32Speaker 5: That's a really really good contrast. I mean I kind
- 22:34Speaker 5: of felt that when he did the Hall of Fame
- 22:35Speaker 5: induction and he was talking about Dante and that really
- 22:38Speaker 5: funny bit, and you know, you realize how how charming
- 22:40Speaker 5: and entertaining he can be. He was great on the
- 22:42Speaker 5: Top one hundred NFL show that he was nominated for
- 22:46Speaker 5: an Emmy four, And.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel it a little bit too.
- 22:50Speaker 5: I you know, I just I don't know how you know,
- 22:52Speaker 5: there's there's a lot of anger towards him right now,
- 22:54Speaker 5: but like we as fans have to compartmentalize.
- 22:57Speaker 2: I can't say that word.
- 22:58Speaker 5: I've never been able to say it, you know. But
- 23:00Speaker 5: also just appreciating him. And you know, it doesn't necessarily
- 23:03Speaker 5: mean that, you know, no one's trying to say that
- 23:05Speaker 5: all the Super Bowls were all because of him, but
- 23:07Speaker 5: he sure played a part in it. And I think
- 23:09Speaker 5: it's worth illustrating the struggles of some of these teams, Like,
- 23:12Speaker 5: you know, look at Kansas City right now. I mean,
- 23:14Speaker 5: I think a couple of years ago, we were all
- 23:15Speaker 5: just ready, well, okay, Kansas City is going to be.
- 23:18Speaker 2: A dynasty for a while. They're gonna win a bunch
- 23:20Speaker 2: of games.
- 23:20Speaker 5: But it's really hard. And as much as you know,
- 23:22Speaker 5: people want to give Tom every last bit of credit
- 23:25Speaker 5: for it, Bill put those teams together and you know they, yeah,
- 23:28Speaker 5: they had some warts, but they were able to overcome them.
- 23:30Speaker 5: And it's you know, even when you have a great coach,
- 23:33Speaker 5: you know, we want to dub Andy Reid now he's
- 23:34Speaker 5: the greatest coach of all time. Like it's it's really
- 23:36Speaker 5: hard to sustain success and I'm sorry, like it's not
- 23:39Speaker 5: going to happen like that again. And unless you want
- 23:41Speaker 5: to say that Tom Brady is just so much better
- 23:44Speaker 5: than Peyton Manning, than Patrick Mahomes, then all these other
- 23:47Speaker 5: quarterbacks who are great, you have to give some credit
- 23:50Speaker 5: elsewhere for why it lasted for as long as it did,
- 23:53Speaker 5: unless you want to just say that Tom Brady is
- 23:55Speaker 5: absolutely head, shoulder, waist knees above everybody else, that it
- 23:59Speaker 5: was all him for twenty years. Like it's hard to
- 24:01Speaker 5: cycle those and when you're.
- 24:02Speaker 2: In charge of everything, people you know that don't work
- 24:06Speaker 2: on the inside like us think it's coaching, it's scouting,
- 24:09Speaker 2: it's drafting, you know, personnel stuff. But there's so much
- 24:13Speaker 2: more to running a football organization. Everything from you know,
- 24:17Speaker 2: how do my assistant coaches get their film after the game?
- 24:20Speaker 2: To travel arrangements. You know, not that Bill's making him,
- 24:24Speaker 2: but he's he has to make sure that all of
- 24:27Speaker 2: that stuff is who's my equipment manager? How do I
- 24:29Speaker 2: handle how do I handle equipment? How do I handle
- 24:33Speaker 2: training and rehab and all that stuff. You know. A
- 24:38Speaker 2: good example is when Brady was here and Alex Carrera
- 24:40Speaker 2: all of a sudden popped on the scene and as
- 24:44Speaker 2: you know, the TB twelve brand started, you know, gaining traction.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Brady was recruiting guys, Hey, come on up to my facility,
- 24:52Speaker 2: and they were getting you know, advice that was counter
- 24:56Speaker 2: to what the Patriots strength and conditioning people were get
- 25:00Speaker 2: and that's not good. And Bill had to step in there.
- 25:03Speaker 2: You know that, No, you can't do that anymore. You know,
- 25:07Speaker 2: our guys are telling him to do this. This is
- 25:09Speaker 2: what they need, this is what they have to do.
- 25:11Speaker 2: And again that goes into the whole thing of when
- 25:14Speaker 2: you're the GM of everything, when you're bizarre of everything,
- 25:17Speaker 2: all those little details have to be paid attention to.
- 25:21Speaker 2: And it's hard for one guy, but Bill did it
- 25:25Speaker 2: for you know, twenty three years.
- 25:27Speaker 5: I mean just entirely different teams that they won with
- 25:29Speaker 5: other than you know, Tom, everybody else was pretty much
- 25:32Speaker 5: different than.
- 25:32Speaker 6: That's probably one of the hardest things is just managing
- 25:35Speaker 6: all these different personalities, these egos and kind of just
- 25:38Speaker 6: keeping them in check to maintain the culture that you
- 25:41Speaker 6: had here that was team first.
- 25:42Speaker 4: It's not individual success here. And I mean we're seeing
- 25:47Speaker 4: it with the Chiefs, we see it with the Bills.
- 25:49Speaker 6: These windows are just like they're starting to close and
- 25:52Speaker 6: you see drama play out. And we had a lot
- 25:54Speaker 6: of leaks this year and this was but it was
- 25:56Speaker 6: so abnormal.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and and people think, oh, when you winning, it's easy. No,
- 26:01Speaker 2: it isn't. No, it's a different type of heart. You know,
- 26:04Speaker 2: you win that Super Bowl and all of a sudden,
- 26:06Speaker 2: guys get entitled and they got their hands out. And
- 26:09Speaker 2: it's not just the players, it's the coaches. It's the staff,
- 26:12Speaker 2: the support staff that you know, where's mine? You know,
- 26:15Speaker 2: I now I've got a Super Bowl. I'm gonna move on.
- 26:18Speaker 2: I'm gonna you know, coaches get better jobs.
- 26:20Speaker 1: You know.
- 26:21Speaker 2: It's there's a lot of things that make it complicated
- 26:25Speaker 2: when you win like they did. That makes it really
- 26:27Speaker 2: hard to keep it together. And that's why really good
- 26:30Speaker 2: teams haven't been able to do that.
- 26:32Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why I wish I could remember. It was
- 26:34Speaker 5: sometime in the last year. I think it might have
- 26:36Speaker 5: been at the combine when Josh McDaniels was interviewed and
- 26:39Speaker 5: he talked a little bit more in detail about when
- 26:42Speaker 5: he came back, you know, after in the Indie debacle,
- 26:45Speaker 5: when he came back and was like, Bill's gonna open
- 26:47Speaker 5: his world to you. But I forget exactly, but it
- 26:49Speaker 5: was kind of like what you said, but he was
- 26:50Speaker 5: pointing out even more minutia that the head coach has
- 26:55Speaker 5: to decide and just to figure out. And those were
- 26:57Speaker 5: the things that you know, Josh was embracing. I don't
- 26:59Speaker 5: know how much good at did him, unfortunately, but but that,
- 27:02Speaker 5: you know, that was what was striking to me, all
- 27:04Speaker 5: the details that that you know you have a hand
- 27:06Speaker 5: in and you know, ultimately it's it's I've said it
- 27:09Speaker 5: a hundred times on the show, but I mean, in
- 27:10Speaker 5: my one season of coaching club hockey, like it's hard
- 27:14Speaker 5: to get a bunch of people to play together the
- 27:16Speaker 5: way you want and to play you know, in the
- 27:18Speaker 5: biggest moments and deliver, and it's just such a challenge.
- 27:21Speaker 5: And again, like I have to put all these disclaimers
- 27:23Speaker 5: out because I can probably hear people listening to this.
- 27:26Speaker 5: How dare he.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Give Bill like nice flowers? Like you know, but he's
- 27:29Speaker 2: he's a good coach.
- 27:30Speaker 5: I'm I don't know what the percentages of how much
- 27:32Speaker 5: he's responsible for these ones.
- 27:33Speaker 2: He's responsible. He has flaws. He has flaws you know,
- 27:40Speaker 2: how we how and why he chooses certain players and
- 27:44Speaker 2: you know, uh that's and and how he plays them
- 27:47Speaker 2: and how he treats them and and but when you
- 27:51Speaker 2: add it up, there's nobody better overall, you know.
- 27:55Speaker 5: I mean, and it's you know, to nerd out a
- 27:56Speaker 5: little bit, and and Evyan was there too on Friday.
- 28:00Speaker 2: You know, Bill just went in, like he was.
- 28:02Speaker 5: Asked by Kevin Stone from the New England Football Journal
- 28:05Speaker 5: just about his coached in Denver. I think at seventy
- 28:08Speaker 5: seven it turned into us, yeah, and then it turned
- 28:10Speaker 5: into like, you know how he kind of made his
- 28:12Speaker 5: three four defense and like these are me personally, Like
- 28:15Speaker 5: these are the things I love. I love defensive talk
- 28:17Speaker 5: and scheme and you know, the evolution of the different
- 28:19Speaker 5: defenses and the techniques that they use and stuff, and
- 28:21Speaker 5: so you know, it's just there's no the like when
- 28:23Speaker 5: he's talking like that, like there's no one else in
- 28:25Speaker 5: the football universe I would rather be listening to telling
- 28:29Speaker 5: you all about the history and the evolution of how
- 28:31Speaker 5: things came about. So, you know, I still have a
- 28:34Speaker 5: ton of respect for him, and you know, it's unfortunate
- 28:36Speaker 5: what's going to happen here, maybe in the off season,
- 28:38Speaker 5: and I just hope it's you know, we're able to
- 28:40Speaker 5: come to just an understanding with you know, the fans
- 28:42Speaker 5: out there who are frustrated with the team, and we're
- 28:44Speaker 5: frustrated too. But at the same time, once we get
- 28:46Speaker 5: past this, we can we'll be able to all say, hey,
- 28:49Speaker 5: we were really lucky to have that guy, and it
- 28:51Speaker 5: was an awesome run, and uh, you know, we're glad
- 28:53Speaker 5: that he's ours and that he's a patriot.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Patty's an ago on what's that Patty?
- 29:00Speaker 8: Good afternoon everyone.
- 29:01Speaker 1: He met a new year.
- 29:08Speaker 8: I wanted to go over a couple of things. I'll
- 29:09Speaker 8: give Bills flowers too. I mean, I kind of I
- 29:13Speaker 8: think it's time for him to move on, But you
- 29:15Speaker 8: know what, what he did for this organization is definitely
- 29:18Speaker 8: not lost on me. And I you know what, I
- 29:21Speaker 8: if he's not done coaching, I hope he goes somewhere
- 29:23Speaker 8: where he can succeed and for at least break the record.
- 29:26Speaker 8: It's not when you know, maybe it's a championship because
- 29:30Speaker 8: I don't hate the guy, you know, I love I
- 29:31Speaker 8: love what he did. And just a couple more quick things.
- 29:37Speaker 8: Rodney Harrison absolutely belongs in the NFL Hall of Fame.
- 29:41Speaker 8: I've been saying it for years. I drew the correlation
- 29:45Speaker 8: of when Aneas Williams went in went into the Hall
- 29:49Speaker 8: before Ty Law, like I can't believe Brian Dawkins is
- 29:52Speaker 8: and and Rodney Harrison isn't not not Brian Dawkins, but
- 29:56Speaker 8: I'm sorry that era. It was Ed Palabalu and Roddy
- 30:01Speaker 8: Harrison and everyone else behind those guys, and I'm I'm
- 30:07Speaker 8: one of the guys. I'd like to see Zappy return
- 30:09Speaker 8: next year because I really think he showed be something.
- 30:12Speaker 8: You know, I'm not banking on him to be the
- 30:14Speaker 8: starter to win the starting job, but I mean you
- 30:18Speaker 8: look at what he did when Trent Brown went out
- 30:20Speaker 8: of the game, and I mean he he just he
- 30:23Speaker 8: he has something. He has a little bit of Maaxi
- 30:26Speaker 8: and he can move around and doesn't look scared like
- 30:29Speaker 8: he's gonna poop his hands, like like Max did you know?
- 30:32Speaker 2: Well, it'd be interesting if and thanks for the call, Patty, uh,
- 30:36Speaker 2: if somehow he wins the last two games, Zappy, if
- 30:40Speaker 2: you know the Patriots get any calls of teams that
- 30:42Speaker 2: are interested in him, yeah, you know, oh we should
- 30:44Speaker 2: be interested. I mean I think yeah, But I mean, like,
- 30:48Speaker 2: let's just say the Patriots have other designs. You know,
- 30:51Speaker 2: if they win the last two games, they're probably gonna
- 30:53Speaker 2: be down to like oh god, no, Well, let's say
- 30:56Speaker 2: they have an idea of who they're going to get
- 30:58Speaker 2: for quarterback. And it's not Zap. I wonder if they'd
- 31:01Speaker 2: be open to, you know, trading.
- 31:02Speaker 5: And that's just like what's hard for me with with
- 31:06Speaker 5: how much work needs to be done on this team,
- 31:08Speaker 5: and it's just it's hard to you know, bang the
- 31:10Speaker 5: table to invest in things that you know probably aren't
- 31:13Speaker 5: gonna matter when this team is good again. And so
- 31:14Speaker 5: you know, I just I would want to be very
- 31:16Speaker 5: careful about what I did at the quarterback position. I wouldn't,
- 31:19Speaker 5: you know, I want to set the table for that person,
- 31:22Speaker 5: you know, who's going to be the eventual starter. But
- 31:24Speaker 5: I don't want to. You know, they've got a lot
- 31:25Speaker 5: of money tied up in receivers that probably are a
- 31:28Speaker 5: little bit overpaid right now. I think you need to,
- 31:30Speaker 5: you know, reassess that you need to. I mean, you
- 31:32Speaker 5: have no tight ends next year on the roster, you
- 31:34Speaker 5: have no tackles, so those are important positions. I mean
- 31:37Speaker 5: tackle tackles hard. I mean I was talking to Evan
- 31:39Speaker 5: about it. I'm sure when he gets here we can
- 31:41Speaker 5: we can chat about it. But I know there are
- 31:43Speaker 5: people out there that just don't care and they'll be like, hey,
- 31:45Speaker 5: just find a tackle, throw them in there. But I
- 31:47Speaker 5: think this season's illustrated that, look, they need at least
- 31:50Speaker 5: one really good tackle and it's hard to say how
- 31:52Speaker 5: they could even do that in free agency. So you know,
- 31:55Speaker 5: it's there's a lot of pieces to be made and
- 31:57Speaker 5: hopefully they can put it together. And you know, another
- 32:00Speaker 5: thing I was talking Evan about was just you have
- 32:02Speaker 5: this like innate confidence when you had Dante Scarnekia and
- 32:05Speaker 5: you know, some of the coaches that have been here forever,
- 32:06Speaker 5: and you know, you just said, hey, even if we
- 32:09Speaker 5: can't get a blue chip guy, we believe our coaching
- 32:13Speaker 5: staff can coach them up to a level that that
- 32:16Speaker 5: will be enough to be to be competitive and to
- 32:18Speaker 5: have a you know, top top ten, top fifteen offense.
- 32:21Speaker 5: But I just don't think we have that confidence right now,
- 32:23Speaker 5: whether it's this current staff coming back or if it's
- 32:25Speaker 5: the next staff. I mean, you know, with with Adrian
- 32:28Speaker 5: Clem going out, the tumultuous nature of the offensive line
- 32:31Speaker 5: has continued, and you know, go back to when Dante left.
- 32:34Speaker 5: I mean it's it's it's been a rotating bunch of
- 32:37Speaker 5: coaches there and now it was like you thought you
- 32:39Speaker 5: had stability this year, and now Adrian Clem is out,
- 32:42Speaker 5: and you have you know, now you're on to Billy
- 32:44Speaker 5: Yates really, so it's there just has been no continuity
- 32:46Speaker 5: along that offensive line coaching since Dante left. And I
- 32:49Speaker 5: think that that's, you know, part of the problem too.
- 32:50Speaker 5: Even if Adrian Clem was able to be here for
- 32:52Speaker 5: a full season and you know, get things under you know,
- 32:56Speaker 5: into his liking, that you probably start to see some progress.
- 32:59Speaker 5: But I think it's been challenge.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Evan is coming in, he then has returned from Evan
- 33:04Speaker 2: is back from Zach. Evan and he's back from Zach.
- 33:07Speaker 5: What's that say, Fisher Hunt, Yes, sir, yes, ma'am.
- 33:14Speaker 2: So just before we get to Evan, Alex mentioned that
- 33:17Speaker 2: the Broncos are benching Wilson Andrew and La writes in
- 33:21Speaker 2: this is per report of Ian from Ian Rappaport. He
- 33:25Speaker 2: says that they're doing it for to preserve financial flexibility
- 33:30Speaker 2: for the team this offseason. Wilson has thirty seven million
- 33:32Speaker 2: and twenty twenty five salary that vests in March of
- 33:35Speaker 2: twenty twenty four, and if he suffered a serious injury,
- 33:38Speaker 2: it would complicate matters, per Rapaport.
- 33:41Speaker 9: Yeah, so basically the Raiders did the same thing with
- 33:43Speaker 9: Derek Carr last year. If he were if us were
- 33:46Speaker 9: to play this week and tear his ACL and he
- 33:48Speaker 9: wouldn't pass a physical next spring, then they would owe
- 33:51Speaker 9: him this money.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Right, But do they not care about making the playoffs?
- 33:54Speaker 2: They've they've written that off.
- 33:55Speaker 5: Yeah, they realized it's about money.
- 33:58Speaker 9: It's about money and about the fact that Russell Wilson's
- 34:01Speaker 9: probably not going to be a Denver Bronco next year,
- 34:03Speaker 9: so it's the easiest way out of his contract.
- 34:05Speaker 2: They've basically conceded the playoff race.
- 34:07Speaker 9: Yes, I think that they probably see that they're not
- 34:10Speaker 9: winning the Super Bowl, so like what you know at
- 34:13Speaker 9: that point, like what's really so.
- 34:15Speaker 5: Would you get that? Would you want Russell Wilson here
- 34:17Speaker 5: at the patient now?
- 34:18Speaker 2: So maybe the Broncos are one of those teams in
- 34:20Speaker 2: the off season that inquire about Bailey Zappy.
- 34:23Speaker 9: I think they're definitely in the quarterback market. I don't
- 34:26Speaker 9: know if Bailey's appy is the quarterback.
- 34:30Speaker 2: So what did young Bailey have to say?
- 34:32Speaker 9: Yeah, some interesting answers from Bailey z Appy. I think
- 34:36Speaker 9: a lot of it was about this environment, playing in
- 34:41Speaker 9: Buffalo on the road, you know, different type of thing,
- 34:45Speaker 9: but not no disrespect to Pittsburgh and Denver, which are
- 34:48Speaker 9: tough in road environments as well, but this is I
- 34:50Speaker 9: think a different beast. I mean, fred wid driving and
- 34:53Speaker 9: they're like throwing stuff at the buses and like flipping
- 34:56Speaker 9: us off and and that's just like they don't even know.
- 34:58Speaker 9: I guess that we're not actually players on the team.
- 35:01Speaker 2: But it doesn't matter. Mooning.
- 35:03Speaker 9: Yeah, they see Patriots bus and and they're they're throwing
- 35:06Speaker 9: eggs at it or something like that. So that was
- 35:09Speaker 9: I think, you know, something that he's trying his best
- 35:13Speaker 9: to kind of mentally prepare for the fact that there's
- 35:15Speaker 9: gonna be some pretty rowdy crowd uh there on Sunday,
- 35:19Speaker 9: and also talking a little bit about some of the
- 35:22Speaker 9: things that he's trying to correct from the Denver game.
- 35:25Speaker 9: Talked about a few misreads that he had in the
- 35:27Speaker 9: game and things of that nature. So he he owns
- 35:31Speaker 9: up to those things. I'll give him that. You know,
- 35:33Speaker 9: he comes right out and says, I should have hit
- 35:35Speaker 9: Pharaoh Brown on this big play that I missed, you know,
- 35:38Speaker 9: and things like that. So we'll see if if he
- 35:41Speaker 9: makes those improvements.
- 35:43Speaker 5: Okay, so weird practice today too. They moved it just
- 35:45Speaker 5: to the bubble three or sorry, the socio stock comfield.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Is this the socio.
- 35:50Speaker 9: Empower?
- 35:51Speaker 2: I take that it was empower and then it was
- 35:54Speaker 2: so well, No, I think the sign for socios is
- 35:56Speaker 2: still up there, but I think they're in the process
- 35:58Speaker 2: of changing that bubble because of noise. Try to simulate noise. Well,
- 36:04Speaker 2: he was asked about it.
- 36:05Speaker 5: I think they're kind of banged up, and we think
- 36:07Speaker 5: this probably is like a walk through corrections kind of.
- 36:09Speaker 5: It'll be quick because locker rooms. It is it what
- 36:12Speaker 5: four fifteen, so it's only an hour fifteen practice. It's
- 36:14Speaker 5: a quick one.
- 36:15Speaker 9: So, yeah, the Bills are doing the same thing for
- 36:17Speaker 9: what it's worth. I think at this point of the season,
- 36:19Speaker 9: it's week seventeen. Teams are banged up, Guys are guyed
- 36:23Speaker 9: bumps and bruises. So the Bills are also doing a
- 36:26Speaker 9: walk through practice today.
- 36:28Speaker 2: But why in the bubble and why not outside of that?
- 36:32Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 36:35Speaker 9: Yeah, maybe the practice that I can't answer. We can't.
- 36:38Speaker 9: He wouldn't. He didn't really want to talk too much
- 36:40Speaker 9: about it.
- 36:42Speaker 5: So Evan, we were talking upstairs about, you know, Christian
- 36:45Speaker 5: Barmore maybe should be the player of the week, not
- 36:48Speaker 5: the player that he didn't get it, but I thought
- 36:50Speaker 5: you would appreciate who did get it, which is Kyle Hamilton.
- 36:52Speaker 9: Oh yeah, I saw and Barmore snubbed first of all, snubbed,
- 36:57Speaker 9: absolutely snubbed. Sorry that brought party through pass passes right
- 37:01Speaker 9: to Kyle Hamilton, like, oh great, yeah, player of the week.
- 37:05Speaker 9: So yeah, it just that's a tough one. That's why
- 37:08Speaker 9: I thought Barmore was definitely I mean, they don't like
- 37:12Speaker 9: release the voting for that sort of thing, so I
- 37:14Speaker 9: don't know if Barmore was close to winning it, but
- 37:16Speaker 9: I I thought that maybe he had a chance.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Is it?
- 37:18Speaker 5: I mean, am I crazy to say that he should
- 37:20Speaker 5: be the number one priority of this SAF season to
- 37:22Speaker 5: resign him? Yes, that's crazy, No, that's crazy.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I agree to extend. Should be he should be extended
- 37:28Speaker 2: high priority. Yeah, absolutely, Yeah.
- 37:30Speaker 9: I do think that he would be the type of
- 37:31Speaker 9: guy that would take an extension before free agency because
- 37:37Speaker 9: you want to maximize on the on the career year, right,
- 37:40Speaker 9: And I think if you asked josh U j Now
- 37:43Speaker 9: if he would have taken an offer from the Patriots
- 37:46Speaker 9: this past offseason instead of testing and you know, kind
- 37:50Speaker 9: of betting on himself and testing the market come free agency,
- 37:53Speaker 9: he might say yes that he that he would have
- 37:55Speaker 9: And I think with defensive lineman he has eight and
- 37:59Speaker 9: a half sacks year, maybe the sacks don't go his
- 38:02Speaker 9: way next year and he doesn't have it, you know,
- 38:03Speaker 9: he has three sacks or something like that. I think
- 38:06Speaker 9: it's a pretty sacks are not a very stable stat
- 38:08Speaker 9: for a lot of guys year to year, especially into
- 38:11Speaker 9: your guys.
- 38:11Speaker 5: So I had a thought, would it be crazy to
- 38:14Speaker 5: to kind of if you can't get ouch or ifuche
- 38:17Speaker 5: wants more money than just kind of put mac Wilson
- 38:19Speaker 5: into that role. He's kind of shown he can do
- 38:20Speaker 5: it a little bit. I don't know if he's got
- 38:22Speaker 5: the same juice that has. He's probably a little bit older,
- 38:25Speaker 5: I would guess.
- 38:25Speaker 2: But yeah, it's just a thought.
- 38:27Speaker 9: Yeah I would worry. I mean, it's it's possible. It's
- 38:29Speaker 9: probably cross my mind too. Just similar type of get
- 38:32Speaker 9: off explosiveness off the edge, but is longer, Like I
- 38:36Speaker 9: feel like he's a little bit bigger, a little bit
- 38:38Speaker 9: longer on the edge than mack Wilson is. I would
- 38:41Speaker 9: be very worried if they ran the ball, like if
- 38:43Speaker 9: they if it was like third and eight, and they
- 38:46Speaker 9: just surprised the Patriots with like a runoff tackle towards
- 38:48Speaker 9: mac Wilson. I would I would be concerned, whereas with Ouch, Yes,
- 38:52Speaker 9: he's had his issues against the run, but maybe he's
- 38:55Speaker 9: a little bit more well versed and playing at the
- 38:57Speaker 9: end of the line of scrimmage and can make a
- 38:59Speaker 9: stop in that situation.
- 39:01Speaker 5: Just some of those choices you got to make is
- 39:02Speaker 5: they try to like get things back in order and
- 39:05Speaker 5: you know, open up. I was talking a little bit
- 39:07Speaker 5: about the tackle discussion of yeah, you know, thinking like
- 39:09Speaker 5: at least you got to get one right, you got
- 39:10Speaker 5: to get at least a tackle somewhere that you believe
- 39:13Speaker 5: is a guy. And like I said, Evan and I
- 39:16Speaker 5: were talking about how hard it is to do in
- 39:17Speaker 5: free agency. He mentioned mcglinchy and you know, it's it's
- 39:21Speaker 5: an important thing. And I you know, I'm not to
- 39:23Speaker 5: say that I'm trying to lead this into the you know,
- 39:24Speaker 5: fourth fifth overall pick kind of conversation, but they have
- 39:28Speaker 5: to make it a hit.
- 39:28Speaker 9: He will have it like we should have it because
- 39:32Speaker 9: they it's a pretty deep tackle draft, but it's it's
- 39:35Speaker 9: top heavy and so it's deep in the top fifty.
- 39:37Speaker 9: But once you get outside of the top fifty, most
- 39:40Speaker 9: people don't really see a ton of future starters outside
- 39:43Speaker 9: of the second round. And those top tackles Joe alt
- 39:48Speaker 9: Olofashanu are two of the best tackle prospects to come
- 39:51Speaker 9: out of the draft in the last couple of years.
- 39:53Speaker 9: And you look at those two guys and you do
- 39:56Speaker 9: have to think about it because I don't think you
- 39:58Speaker 9: can build an offensive line through free agency. I just
- 40:01Speaker 9: don't think that that's how it works. It's just not.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Uh.
- 40:04Speaker 9: Usually the good lineman don't make it to free agency.
- 40:07Speaker 9: They either get traded or they just stick with their
- 40:10Speaker 9: their own team. So if you're an offensive lineman that
- 40:13Speaker 9: hits the free agent market as an unrestricted free agent,
- 40:15Speaker 9: I always say why, Like, what's what's the catch with you?
- 40:18Speaker 9: Because if you're a great starting tackle in the league,
- 40:21Speaker 9: then your team is finding a way to keep you.
- 40:24Speaker 5: Another question I have for the panel is, uh, you know,
- 40:27Speaker 5: what's the drop off like from when you at right
- 40:29Speaker 5: guard to city so so, and you know, is that
- 40:34Speaker 5: is it comparable? And is that a place where you
- 40:36Speaker 5: can save a little money if you know what I mean,
- 40:38Speaker 5: If it's I don't know how you feel about City
- 40:40Speaker 5: so and how he's performing. I mean, he's kind of
- 40:41Speaker 5: locked down that right guard spot for a while, and
- 40:44Speaker 5: he's on a rookie deal. You know, it's a right guard,
- 40:46Speaker 5: which to me is always like if you have one
- 40:48Speaker 5: position that.
- 40:49Speaker 2: You're saying, maybe that makes and when you expendable.
- 40:51Speaker 5: I mean, if you're I just think everything has to
- 40:54Speaker 5: be on the table as you try, and especially if
- 40:55Speaker 5: a new coaching staff comes in, you know, I if
- 40:57Speaker 5: it's not that much of a drop off and you
- 40:59Speaker 5: don't feel like we've feel like City's done well and
- 41:01Speaker 5: we feel like he's progressing, it just financially, it just
- 41:05Speaker 5: makes a lot more sense. And I mean, again, just
- 41:06Speaker 5: to finish my point, like, right guard is the position
- 41:09Speaker 5: where I'm like, if you had to, if you have
- 41:10Speaker 5: one position you just kind of have to figure out,
- 41:12Speaker 5: I'd probably choose it to be right guard, you know,
- 41:14Speaker 5: like that of everything unless special quarterback right and then
- 41:18Speaker 5: you got you gonna need all the protection you get.
- 41:20Speaker 2: I guess all right, let's get back to the Ace
- 41:23Speaker 2: ticket hutline. We'll go to Willhelm and Philly. What's up? Well,
- 41:26Speaker 2: Oh he gave up? I made him so mad? With
- 41:28Speaker 2: my Bill talk.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Did he just through the phone and discussed.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Kendall's in North Carolina? Hey Kendall, what's going on?
- 41:35Speaker 10: Guys?
- 41:35Speaker 2: Hey?
- 41:37Speaker 11: Hey, I got a quick question about Bill. I know
- 41:40Speaker 11: the three possible LINUS spots would be Washington, Carolina, and
- 41:45Speaker 11: maybe the Chargers. So let's just say, Typathelia, those teams
- 41:49Speaker 11: aren't interested. I mean, could you see Bill being back
- 41:53Speaker 11: with the Patriot default or what happens?
- 41:56Speaker 12: Then?
- 41:57Speaker 2: No, I think the Patriot, the the organization would have
- 42:01Speaker 2: already moved on. So I don't think that that's the
- 42:06Speaker 2: case that like the Patriots would kind of wait to
- 42:08Speaker 2: see where he lands, and if he doesn't land, he
- 42:11Speaker 2: comes back here. I think once he starts having those interviews,
- 42:15Speaker 2: it's done. Yeah.
- 42:16Speaker 5: I mean, well, I gotta admit I think Bill might
- 42:23Speaker 5: be back next year.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Oh so you're you're washes that all of a sudden.
- 42:28Speaker 2: I don't.
- 42:29Speaker 9: That's not what I want. Like, I've always given my
- 42:31Speaker 9: appemation on it.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Honestly, So three weeks ago you would have said the
- 42:34Speaker 2: same thing.
- 42:36Speaker 9: Uh. I think it's a lot easier said than done
- 42:39Speaker 9: to look him in the face and fire him.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Well, absolutely, that's not the question though, I asked you
- 42:46Speaker 2: three weeks ago, I see coming back.
- 42:50Speaker 9: No, but probably emotionally no, because I like to me
- 42:53Speaker 9: it was it was too the product on the field
- 42:56Speaker 9: was just so bad that I I couldn't see it.
- 42:59Speaker 9: I just I worry, and I say this very delicately,
- 43:03Speaker 9: since he signs my paycheck. I worry about having the
- 43:06Speaker 9: khones to actually do it. Like it's one thing just
- 43:10Speaker 9: to say it. It's one thing in season when they're
- 43:12Speaker 9: losing five straight in a row and they look terrible
- 43:14Speaker 9: in Germany and terrible in New York. To sit here
- 43:17Speaker 9: and say this is terrible. We have to move on.
- 43:19Speaker 9: And then January eighth comes or whatever it is, and
- 43:22Speaker 9: you're sitting across the table from him, and he's saying,
- 43:25Speaker 9: you know, I want to be back, and this is
- 43:26Speaker 9: what I'm gonna do to make the team better, X,
- 43:28Speaker 9: Y and Z. To then sit there and say, you
- 43:30Speaker 9: know what, Bill, thanks for the twenty five years. It's
- 43:33Speaker 9: six super Bowls, but we're actually going to go in
- 43:34Speaker 9: a different direction. I just so I believe it when I.
- 43:37Speaker 2: See it, not being influenced by winning the last two
- 43:39Speaker 2: out of no.
- 43:40Speaker 9: No, I mean yeah, a little bit, but I think
- 43:43Speaker 9: that that's a fair I don't think it's fair to
- 43:45Speaker 9: be influenced by that, but I think that human nature
- 43:48Speaker 9: is to be influenced.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but I never questioned his coaching ability. I'd be
- 43:54Speaker 2: more surprised if the team wasn't playing hard. You know,
- 43:57Speaker 2: all these people like are amazed, Oh my god, still
- 44:00Speaker 2: playing hard for him, and they're still giving, you know,
- 44:02Speaker 2: one hundred percent effort. I expected that, But that's not
- 44:07Speaker 2: why he's in hot water. No, and I's in hot
- 44:09Speaker 2: water because of the team that he.
- 44:11Speaker 9: Built, right, And that's why I wonder if there's some
- 44:13Speaker 9: sort of agreement that they come to about personnel.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Well, listen, I said at the beginning, you know, way
- 44:20Speaker 2: a long time ago. My perfect scenario is he acquiesces,
- 44:25Speaker 2: he says, Okay, I want to coach. That's the most
- 44:29Speaker 2: important thing to me. I will, you know, give over
- 44:33Speaker 2: the off season to you know, another team, when I
- 44:37Speaker 2: mean you know, another group of people, and I will
- 44:40Speaker 2: coach the team. I will plan for game day, I'll
- 44:42Speaker 2: take the players, will collaborate, I'll tell them what kind
- 44:45Speaker 2: of players I'd like. But at the end of the day,
- 44:47Speaker 2: it's not going to be my decision. If he's willing
- 44:49Speaker 2: to do all that. Let's go, let's go. But I
- 44:52Speaker 2: just don't see that happening.
- 44:53Speaker 9: I don't see it happening either. And I think ultimately
- 44:56Speaker 9: you have to worry about the whole puppet GM thing
- 44:58Speaker 9: where who is actually pulling the strings behind the scenes.
- 45:01Speaker 2: So that's where that's where the crafts have to say. Okay,
- 45:06Speaker 2: but those new people are are higher right, there are
- 45:10Speaker 2: people they're not macro who now will have more authority.
- 45:15Speaker 2: It's our people that answer to us, and they will
- 45:19Speaker 2: be talking on a regular basis about how are things going.
- 45:23Speaker 2: You know, why did you make that decision? Whose decision
- 45:26Speaker 2: was it? All that thing? And Bill's got to agree
- 45:29Speaker 2: to that.
- 45:30Speaker 9: And if you give a GM and I don't really
- 45:34Speaker 9: like this idea because I don't think it can work
- 45:36Speaker 9: because if you hand players off the bill, then Bill's
- 45:39Speaker 9: gonna do whatever he wants with the player, like whether
- 45:41Speaker 9: it's playing him at a position or it's not playing
- 45:44Speaker 9: him at all because he doesn't like the skill set
- 45:46Speaker 9: or whatever. If he's the coach of the team and
- 45:48Speaker 9: with his cachet, if you draft a receiver in the
- 45:51Speaker 9: second round that has a certain skill set that he
- 45:53Speaker 9: doesn't run, block, well, or doesn't run routes, well, then
- 45:56Speaker 9: he's just gonna sit him on the bench, right, And
- 45:58Speaker 9: that I think is a difficult thing. But I just
- 46:01Speaker 9: wonder if maybe emotion gets the you know, the better
- 46:05Speaker 9: of it, or just loyalty gets the better of it,
- 46:08Speaker 9: and they try to find like a middle ground that
- 46:10Speaker 9: isn't kicking the best coach in the history of the
- 46:13Speaker 9: league out the door.
- 46:14Speaker 5: Yeah, that's kind of what I said yesterday of that's
- 46:16Speaker 5: the easy thing, would just be a stick with him.
- 46:18Speaker 5: I mean, that's you know, it's that's the easy thing.
- 46:20Speaker 5: That's why to me, it's it's.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Easy to keep Bill.
- 46:23Speaker 5: It's a little bit harder, but still pretty easy to
- 46:25Speaker 5: keep Mayo and keep the general kind of structure around.
- 46:28Speaker 5: The hardest thing is to completely wipe the slate clean
- 46:31Speaker 5: and have a whole new bunch of guys with a
- 46:33Speaker 5: whole new philosophy. Go back to all the things you said,
- 46:35Speaker 5: Fred about the minutia that goes into coaching. So you're
- 46:38Speaker 5: gonna establish a whole new program, and then it's it's
- 46:41Speaker 5: kind of all bets are off for probably I would
- 46:43Speaker 5: say maybe ninety percent of the players currently on the
- 46:45Speaker 5: roster because you don't know how they're gonna fit. I mean,
- 46:48Speaker 5: you know, a guy like Barmore, I think he fits anywhere.
- 46:50Speaker 5: But you know, even a guy like Jawan Bentley, who's
- 46:52Speaker 5: a leader of this team, he's a very specific Belichick
- 46:55Speaker 5: Mayo type of player, Jilani Tavai Belichick Mayo type of player.
- 47:00Speaker 5: Another coach comes in, he might say, look, I want
- 47:02Speaker 5: a Matt Malone. I want a different kind of you know.
- 47:04Speaker 5: And now we're just in a full rebuild, so I like,
- 47:07Speaker 5: I'm not I think that's all on the table. But
- 47:08Speaker 5: it's just from the ownership perspective, what's the hardest thing
- 47:11Speaker 5: to do, especially when you know you want to still
- 47:14Speaker 5: have control, you want to be have a relationship with
- 47:16Speaker 5: the people running the game. So now you know Robert
- 47:18Speaker 5: Craft's gonna have to establish a new relationship with a GM.
- 47:21Speaker 9: And oh, you're just trying to mentally prepare myself for
- 47:23Speaker 9: the fact that he might be back next year. And
- 47:26Speaker 9: if that's the case, what are like the parameters of
- 47:29Speaker 9: that would that would make me happy? And I think
- 47:33Speaker 9: the first thing is what Fred said, you need to
- 47:35Speaker 9: have a general manager that answers to the Crafts, not
- 47:37Speaker 9: to Bill. A general manager that answers to to the
- 47:40Speaker 9: crafts and has control of the ninety man roster. Like that.
- 47:43Speaker 9: That's item number one. Item number two. I would allow
- 47:47Speaker 9: Bill O'Brien to hire his own staff, like the fact
- 47:50Speaker 9: that Bill O'Brien's been basically saddled with this like makeshift
- 47:53Speaker 9: offensive coaching staff that was like part Josh mcdaniels's staff,
- 47:57Speaker 9: part his, Like, it doesn't make any sense, So allow
- 48:02Speaker 9: him if if he thinks Vinnison Siris the best running
- 48:05Speaker 9: backs coach for the job, then he keeps Vineyson Siri.
- 48:07Speaker 9: But I just I can't imagine that some of those
- 48:10Speaker 9: guys would all be safe if that was the case.
- 48:12Speaker 9: So let him go out and make his own hires
- 48:14Speaker 9: on the offensive staff, and and let's see where it goes.
- 48:18Speaker 9: So like that that those types of big things would
- 48:20Speaker 9: have to happen for me to be okay with it.
- 48:22Speaker 9: But I just I feel like we have to prepare
- 48:25Speaker 9: for all scenarios. We can't just assume that he's going
- 48:27Speaker 9: to be gone.
- 48:27Speaker 5: I mean, even if he came back, there'd have to
- 48:29Speaker 5: there'd have to be some kind of changes to sell
- 48:31Speaker 5: the general public on. You know, this is what we're
- 48:33Speaker 5: gonna do. I mean, I like Evan's idea, I mean,
- 48:36Speaker 5: Will Long one of his guys, but Vinny Troy Brown,
- 48:39Speaker 5: I mean, and I also brought up the you know,
- 48:41Speaker 5: just the continued difficulties at offensive line coach.
- 48:45Speaker 2: But what what what if the new GM wants the
- 48:47Speaker 2: new offensive coordinator, who's higher is the coordinators? Is that
- 48:51Speaker 2: Bills or the GMS?
- 48:52Speaker 9: Well, yeah, I mean that that usually that would be
- 48:54Speaker 9: the coaches higher, right, So I think that that's part
- 48:58Speaker 9: of it too. But I just I don't think that
- 49:00Speaker 9: they gave Bill O'Brien enough control of the offensive coaching staff,
- 49:05Speaker 9: Like the fact that they hired a new offensive coordinator
- 49:08Speaker 9: and they said here's you know, here's your staff like that.
- 49:11Speaker 9: That's not normally how I feel like that should be
- 49:14Speaker 9: be going. And I think that they'll play on the
- 49:16Speaker 9: field reflects the fact that you know, they probably could
- 49:19Speaker 9: be better in certain coaching positions on this you know team,
- 49:23Speaker 9: other than just head coach. And I look at Adrian
- 49:25Speaker 9: Clem as like an easy out at this point because
- 49:28Speaker 9: he's not even here like with the team, So if
- 49:30Speaker 9: you feel like he wasn't doing a good job, and
- 49:32Speaker 9: then he kind of goes in mya because of his health.
- 49:35Speaker 9: Then you said, that's an easy out, all right, you know,
- 49:38Speaker 9: next guy.
- 49:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I ran down. It was I mean
- 49:41Speaker 5: Dante left what after eighteen? Then it was Popovich and
- 49:45Speaker 5: uh and the guy in base Brisillo.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Yep.
- 49:47Speaker 2: Then it was just Brisillo.
- 49:49Speaker 5: Right for the COVID year and twenty one.
- 49:51Speaker 2: And twenty one.
- 49:52Speaker 5: Then it was Matty p in twenty two, and now
- 49:54Speaker 5: it was started at Adrian Clem. Now it's just kind
- 49:56Speaker 5: of Billy Yates. I mean, it's just not good. It's
- 49:58Speaker 5: not the continuity that we had established here for a
- 50:01Speaker 5: long time. You know, even though Dante is a great coach,
- 50:03Speaker 5: I just I think continuity speaks volumes.
- 50:05Speaker 2: Especially when it's a veteran coach. He's been doing. Yeah,
- 50:07Speaker 2: and you know you mentioned it, du is Like the
- 50:09Speaker 2: harder thing is to blow it up because everything changes.
- 50:13Speaker 2: You know, when Bill came in, like we we've been
- 50:15Speaker 2: so spoiled because for twenty three years, the continuity and
- 50:19Speaker 2: consistency is something you didn't have to worry about. But
- 50:22Speaker 2: when Bill first got here, like he wanted his own
- 50:24Speaker 2: pr person, he wanted everything his like it was a
- 50:27Speaker 2: total you know, rebranding, restructuring of the whole team, and
- 50:32Speaker 2: you know you saw two thousand was Yeah, two thousand
- 50:36Speaker 2: was a terrible season until they got it together. But
- 50:40Speaker 2: it's it's gonna take a while if you if you
- 50:42Speaker 2: blow it up. So I could see the craft saying well,
- 50:45Speaker 2: you know, there's just some changes we want to make,
- 50:48Speaker 2: but you know, let's keep most of it in place
- 50:51Speaker 2: because that part of it isn't broken. And don't rule
- 50:54Speaker 2: out they got a ton of money in free agency.
- 50:56Speaker 5: They got you know, really high draft capital, So I mean,
- 50:59Speaker 5: there are some things to say, there are ways to
- 51:01Speaker 5: get talent without having to blow things up.
- 51:03Speaker 2: But I would just say, for me.
- 51:04Speaker 5: I do not see them taking personnel away from him.
- 51:07Speaker 5: It's just I don't see it happening in any context.
- 51:10Speaker 5: It's that that is that makes things easy but complicated.
- 51:14Speaker 5: And what are we talking about, like two or three
- 51:16Speaker 5: off seasons that this person will be selecting play Like,
- 51:18Speaker 5: is that really gonna make that much of a difference.
- 51:21Speaker 5: The disconnect, as Evan was pointing out, between what Bill
- 51:23Speaker 5: wants to coach and what this guy like, I just
- 51:25Speaker 5: I cannot see him accepting that and being like, look,
- 51:28Speaker 5: you're not gonna take this away from me, Like I'm
- 51:30Speaker 5: a child.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Now you're gonna you know, yeah.
- 51:33Speaker 4: Okay, but believe what incentive is there to stay?
- 51:37Speaker 2: It just depends on how much he wants to coach.
- 51:39Speaker 2: I mean, you're you're neutering him.
- 51:40Speaker 5: I mean you're just saying like, yeah, we'll see on
- 51:42Speaker 5: you know, we'll see a training camp, you know, like
- 51:45Speaker 5: yeah together, yeah.
- 51:46Speaker 9: You know, go to Nantucket. We'll see you in o
- 51:48Speaker 9: Ta Bill. Thanks.
- 51:50Speaker 2: You know that's the extreme. But aren't there other teams
- 51:53Speaker 2: with that arrangement?
- 51:55Speaker 5: Sure, but not like when the coach has been here
- 51:56Speaker 5: for twenty three years and then all of a sudden
- 51:58Speaker 5: you're gonna say, actually, you're not getting to do it anymore,
- 52:01Speaker 5: you know, like I'd rather just fire him, And like,
- 52:03Speaker 5: I just I don't I don't see him accepting it.
- 52:05Speaker 5: I don't see it making sense. I don't see it
- 52:07Speaker 5: producing the kind of results that we think it will.
- 52:09Speaker 4: And when things go wrong, they can just escape to
- 52:11Speaker 4: each other between the.
- 52:12Speaker 5: Right and you have them playing off against each other,
- 52:15Speaker 5: and he coached them up the way I wanted it,
- 52:18Speaker 5: you know, I don't know, It's just it's.
- 52:19Speaker 9: A very messy situation. But I could definitely see it happening.
- 52:22Speaker 9: Like I have a hard time seeing it working, but
- 52:24Speaker 9: I have, I definitely have.
- 52:26Speaker 2: You can see it. How does Pete Carroll do it
- 52:28Speaker 2: over in Seattle?
- 52:29Speaker 9: Which Schneider, Yeah, it's pretty, it's pretty. What's the word together? Yeah,
- 52:34Speaker 9: they do it together?
- 52:35Speaker 2: Right, Like okay, right?
- 52:38Speaker 5: But then but then we get into like they're going
- 52:40Speaker 5: to do it together.
- 52:42Speaker 2: Come in the room when it's drafted and when.
- 52:44Speaker 9: They're picking an offensive player.
- 52:45Speaker 2: I want, I want it's going.
- 52:46Speaker 6: To be like Moneyball where Philly Bean is like trading right, right.
- 52:51Speaker 9: I mean that that's obviously the big the biggest risk. Yeah,
- 52:55Speaker 9: I mean he looks he can still he can acquire
- 52:58Speaker 9: talent on defense, Like I think that that's pretty clear. Uh,
- 53:01Speaker 9: you know their their defensive picks recently have been I mean,
- 53:04Speaker 9: Christian Barmore draft pick. You know, Kyle Duggart draft pick.
- 53:07Speaker 9: I think Keon White is starting to make an impact
- 53:10Speaker 9: here in the in the second half of the season.
- 53:12Speaker 9: I think Marty map Who's gonna can have a role
- 53:14Speaker 9: in some capacity. Right, Gonzales looked great out of the gate,
- 53:18Speaker 9: Like those are all Bill draft picks. It's the offensive
- 53:20Speaker 9: side of the ball that he's just totally out of touch.
- 53:23Speaker 2: With.
- 53:23Speaker 9: So that's why if you have a new personnel guy
- 53:25Speaker 9: that's that's drafting offense and he's giving guys to Billy Oh,
- 53:29Speaker 9: who's giving guys to his own his own staff, you
- 53:32Speaker 9: can kind of sell somebody on that being a better
- 53:35Speaker 9: operation than what it is now. But he can't. Bill
- 53:38Speaker 9: cannot pick offense, so you just you can't have him
- 53:40Speaker 9: picking the quarterback. You can't have him picking receivers, like
- 53:43Speaker 9: whatever grading system they use on wide receivers can be
- 53:46Speaker 9: thrown out the window and never come back like. That's
- 53:49Speaker 9: that's the bottom.
- 53:50Speaker 2: Line, all right, Time to take a break. We'll do
- 53:53Speaker 2: that and uh, Paul will send food Paul's food over
- 53:58Speaker 2: to ninety eight point five and we'll be right back
- 53:59Speaker 2: after to this.
- 54:05Speaker 3: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be suitable.
- 54:10Speaker 10: Very very Christmas to you and yours for this holiday
- 54:12Speaker 10: football match up. On Christmas Eve, and Andrew snaps and
- 54:16Speaker 10: play action bag and he dropped by Daphy.

- 54:21Speaker 1: picked up by the.
- 54:22Speaker 12: Broncos ruling of a five hour live We're.
- 54:24Speaker 10: Gonna say no with Denver recovering E G. Choones the

- 54:37Speaker 10: out the time the first out.
- 54:40Speaker 2: That's uh.
- 54:42Speaker 10: They're gonna go for it on the Broncos and a
- 54:44Speaker 10: board the door from the jew Williams dud White wolfing
- 54:47Speaker 10: with the head of Williams goat ran into it. Who

- 55:13Speaker 1: It's all him. Ran hard there and that guys some points.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Good gift.

- 55:44Speaker 13: If zambe season hit him past, this is a city
- 55:46Speaker 13: corner and he sinks it in there.

- 56:17Speaker 10: It's pet trick whist the bottom of the file for
- 56:19Speaker 10: the England along with Jeremiah Barr.
- 56:23Speaker 1: It's a great pressure on.
- 56:25Speaker 13: Wilson and Wills is in the book that foot here
- 56:27Speaker 13: and he wanted to and want to off the pasifics.
- 56:30Speaker 10: Us got gets back to Wilson ber he's the ball,
- 56:34Speaker 10: got is and Wilson balls on god it Matt Wilson

- 56:46Speaker 10: research the possession and set up a poti by Dender.
- 56:49Speaker 13: Wilson as one of the biggest pressures and tackles to
- 56:52Speaker 13: get the Pittsburgh and secure that one. This point he

- 1:02:33Speaker 10: Bentley into the episode on his page five Ball Game
- 1:02:36Speaker 10: twenty three twenty.

- 1:02:45Speaker 10: In Rookie Maryland by way of Eastern Michigan kicking President

- 1:03:05Speaker 10: away and victory bore the Patriots.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Mardona over the football, Barry is right, he is down.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: He shows Cardona in his right hand right aways, winning
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: Bond in his hand, the.
- 1:03:17Speaker 10: Staff the spot, the kick clears the line sadly to
- 1:03:20Speaker 10: the up Pricedona.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: Here's God, but the kid did it?
- 1:03:25Speaker 10: Put two seconds to go? Ryland is given the Patriots
- 1:03:29Speaker 10: what twenty six twenty three lead here in Denver, and
- 1:03:34Speaker 10: he's mob by his teammates on the far side, and
- 1:03:38Speaker 10: how good must that feel?
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: What he'll call right here?
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: Mob?
- 1:03:43Speaker 13: Kudos to you man. Wow, what a kick by a kid.
- 1:03:48Speaker 13: He knew it right away too. I'm watching him kick
- 1:03:51Speaker 13: it while you're watching the kick, and he's fist puffing
- 1:03:53Speaker 13: the second and lift his book watch when he hits it.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: He knew it right away. He drove that kick straight
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: down the middle.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: All right back here on Patriots on filter at eight
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: five five pass five hundred is the ace ticket outline.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: Web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address. Okay,
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: some interesting talk in the Yeah we're back. We're wondering
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: how Paul's doing over there. Yeah, he's carrying the show
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: I did. I was listening a little bit between eleven
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: and eleven thirty and they were going down memory lane
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: a little bit. So Paul was in his wheelhouse talking
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: about games and like three and.
- 1:04:38Speaker 9: How they came you know, played out how Brady came
- 1:04:41Speaker 9: to be. According to Yeah, so.
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: It's it's not it's like Paul Light, It's not on here.
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: He's like, you know, Paul, Paul, but I feel like
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: on there he's.
- 1:04:49Speaker 6: At like when you get a new girlfriend, you start
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: talking to a new girl, you feel it out.
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: This has been a long affair that he's had in
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: this radio station. They've been they've been like, this has
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: been his side, his side, lady, for for what, I
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: don't know how long he's been on the Hub.
- 1:05:02Speaker 9: That's when he goes on with Felger and Maz I
- 1:05:06Speaker 9: usually listen and and he he sounds like a different person,
- 1:05:10Speaker 9: like he's he's got to play a little bit more
- 1:05:13Speaker 9: on Yeah, and they try to like get him riled
- 1:05:16Speaker 9: up or they, you know, Felger comes at him with
- 1:05:18Speaker 9: like some crazy Felger hot take, and Paul is just like,
- 1:05:21Speaker 9: you know, it's very calm, very like, you know, even keeled,
- 1:05:24Speaker 9: And I'm like, this is this is not pp Like,
- 1:05:27Speaker 9: what are we doing here?
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: There's no one better to keep Michael Felger in line
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: than Paul, like you know what I mean, Like he
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: will not flinch if he doesn't like one of you
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: know what is he calling Felger facts like like Paul
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: is the perfect person.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: To like go deal with them and yeah, but he
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: also parrots a lot of what Felger says. They like
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: I listen to sometimes what Paul says in here, and
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: then I'll go on drive home and Felger saying the
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: exact same thing. So I know, like they've emailed.
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: You know, Well, it's PA's got such a long commute.
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: I just think, like how much of him has been
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: shaped by just being in his fricking car two hours
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: a day every day listening to those guys talk like
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: it's it's almost like his training. I feel like, you know,
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: he's takes it, he gets mad about and you know,
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: he comes in like it's like his workshop every day.
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: But if I did that with the road rage, right,
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: But if I had to drive to Peabody every day
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: to and back, and I mean, and he's like, you know,
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: he's always here, Like, oh.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: Boy, that's a that's a tough ride because of the traffic.
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: Yeah, like the mass Pike in twenty eight every day
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: you're like where they merge.
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: A long commute, but no one's really going west.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: Right, right, So you're just driving, yeah, relaxed for the
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: most part.
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: Yeah, so he's going to hit it at not only
- 1:06:36Speaker 5: like the mass Pike, but he's gonna hit it like
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: Route too, and like you know a Burlington like there's
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: traffic stops it every single.
- 1:06:43Speaker 9: Week has been beautiful. Oh there's no traffic because nobody
- 1:06:48Speaker 9: is going into the office this week. I got here
- 1:06:50Speaker 9: this morning in like twenty eight minutes. I just it
- 1:06:53Speaker 9: was fantastic.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: You could move closer than I mean. It's now you
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: guys not allowed, you know. All right, let's get back
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: to the phones. The stick outline eight five five, pass
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: five hundred. Let's see Jay and Minnesota has been hanging on.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: What's up?
- 1:07:07Speaker 10: Jay?
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: Jay?
- 1:07:10Speaker 10: Jay?
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: Jay and Minnesota? Hey, Willem and Pelham is back another shot?
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: What's up William?
- 1:07:21Speaker 8: Hey Fred?
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: How you doing all right?
- 1:07:24Speaker 11: Is Evan?
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, Hey.
- 1:07:27Speaker 14: I get a chance to talk for a minute. Uh
- 1:07:31Speaker 14: look I missed what I saw you take yesterday. I'm
- 1:07:33Speaker 14: listening to you, but you had to step out for
- 1:07:35Speaker 14: a minute. So I want to ask you. So it's
- 1:07:38Speaker 14: retained towards the draft. So if you sitting at number
- 1:07:41Speaker 14: four and you say you don't want to trade up
- 1:07:44Speaker 14: because you got to use draft capital, well Molly push back,
- 1:07:48Speaker 14: is well, if you want that quarterback, what are you
- 1:07:50Speaker 14: supposed to do?
- 1:07:51Speaker 10: Then?
- 1:07:52Speaker 9: Yeah? I just I don't. I don't like these quarterbacks
- 1:07:55Speaker 9: enough to trade what the Panthers? Just like, do you
- 1:07:58Speaker 9: think the Panthers are in good shape? Like they traded
- 1:08:01Speaker 9: it future first round picks for Bryce Young and they're
- 1:08:04Speaker 9: going to have the first overall pick again except oh wait,
- 1:08:07Speaker 9: they don't have it. So now now what are they
- 1:08:09Speaker 9: supposed to do?
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: Like?
- 1:08:10Speaker 9: It just you're you're if you're a team that's not
- 1:08:14Speaker 9: a quarterback away from competing, And I don't think the
- 1:08:19Speaker 9: Patriots are a quarterback away from competing. Then giving up
- 1:08:23Speaker 9: a king's ransom to move up in the draft for
- 1:08:25Speaker 9: a quarterback like where you you're going to be the
- 1:08:27Speaker 9: Carolina Panthers. That That's that's my only point.
- 1:08:30Speaker 11: Yeah, true, Okay, I got you, isn't it.
- 1:08:34Speaker 14: I just want to say, well, actually I have two
- 1:08:36Speaker 14: things I want to say, but I was just saying
- 1:08:38Speaker 14: one thing.
- 1:08:39Speaker 12: First.
- 1:08:40Speaker 14: Isn't it just crazy? Here we are twenty twenty three,
- 1:08:44Speaker 14: but it was in it twenty I'm gonna get it right.
- 1:08:48Speaker 14: Prady was going twenty nineteen.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: No, I think two nineteen or twenty twenty twenty, was gone.
- 1:08:53Speaker 14: Twenty twenty, and here you are, what three four years later,
- 1:08:58Speaker 14: your team's still trash and we can't get this together.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: I mean, well, the way I remember, it's it's always
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: Cam Newton was here one year and then they drafted
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: Mac and this is his third year.
- 1:09:10Speaker 14: Yeah right, it's just.
- 1:09:14Speaker 8: How long does the rebuild take?
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: It just it could be infinity.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: There is there is no like one, you know, there
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: is no set way. Oh I think I think I
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: threw them off like that one.
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: But I mean, look like there's no guarantee that any
- 1:09:28Speaker 5: team is going to compete for a super Bowl.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: It's you know, like it's that's the problem. It's that
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: was the fear, like you get stuck in the NFL purgatory.
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: That's why I lose my mind when I hear people
- 1:09:37Speaker 5: say like, well, it's probably like a five to six
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: year rebuild.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: I'm like five, why not fifty years? Like why five
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: to six?
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: Like you're gonna have a whole draft class that's not
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: going to pan out and.
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: Then they're gonna walk like blown up this offseason, like
- 1:09:47Speaker 6: everyone seems to be wanting.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: It to define what rebuild is? What what foundation are
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: you building on? Where are you coming from? Like, Yeah,
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: I mean there's no set model.
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: I just think the bottom line is find a quarterback
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: you believe, then you love and I don't think anybody
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: anymore believes in mac and you know, and that's and
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: they don't have it. I mean, say what you will
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: about Bailly Appy's performances, but right now, to me, they
- 1:10:08Speaker 5: don't have that piece.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: And that's the piece that you.
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: Need to really believe you are rebuilding, because until that point,
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: I think you're just building. You're just building with no
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: real end in sight, until you get the quarterback in
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: place and you get some star players in place, and
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: then you can really start to say.
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: We're going towards something. We believe we're gonna be contenders.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:26Speaker 9: I just feel like, if you again like to use
- 1:10:29Speaker 9: the Panthers analogy, if you really feel like Caleb Williams
- 1:10:34Speaker 9: is an Andrew Luck, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence level prospect,
- 1:10:39Speaker 9: and I guess maybe you could convince me into trading
- 1:10:42Speaker 9: up to get him, depending on the price. But I
- 1:10:45Speaker 9: just think more times than not, you know, it's a
- 1:10:48Speaker 9: Brice Young situation, and then you're left with a quarterback
- 1:10:51Speaker 9: that is on a depleted roster that doesn't have draft
- 1:10:55Speaker 9: ammo now to add to that roster, and where are
- 1:10:58Speaker 9: you You're just you're spinning the tires on it. And
- 1:11:00Speaker 9: their due picks, you know, to Chicago for like multiple years,
- 1:11:05Speaker 9: you know, like not just first round picks too. I
- 1:11:07Speaker 9: think they traded one of their seconds as well. So
- 1:11:09Speaker 9: it's it's just a tough spot to be And if
- 1:11:12Speaker 9: you're the Patriots, I'd rather build it methodically than just
- 1:11:15Speaker 9: try to like drop Drake may or Caleb Williams into
- 1:11:18Speaker 9: this mess and think he's gonna fix everybody.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: Christin New Hampshire says, I've got a gut feeling that
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: nothing changes here. Maybe Kraft is as stuck in his
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: ways as we believe Belichick is is. So I don't
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: roll it out.
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: I don't. I mean, I just I think at the
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: end of the day, they could easily just say, look,
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: you know, we're gonna buy into what he said, and
- 1:11:37Speaker 5: we've got a lot of opportunity to change the team
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: this year, and we're not ready to hand the keys
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: to this car. With all the upcoming perks of of
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: cap space and uh, you know in draft capital, we're
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: not ready to hand that to a completely unknown quantity,
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: you know, and and yeah Bill has had his missus
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: and you know, but for us, you know, how much
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: longer is Robert gonna be actively involved in the team.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: I just think he might say, Look, I'd rather just
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: deal with Bill, And what is it like the devil
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: you know is better than the one you don't. So
- 1:12:05Speaker 5: I really could see it coming. I know, I know
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: we're all you know, probably not really in favor of that,
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: but I could see it.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: Eric and Amherstberg, I've been a huge in Bill. We
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: trust guy, but it's time, and I'll be cutthroat about
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: it because it happens. It's business. We need to celebrate him.
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: But while he's hurting us and there's a chance he
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: might be back, it's infuriating. I understand we don't want
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: to lose, but winning these last games kills us. I
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: wanted as high a pick as we could get for
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: the options. Do we hold it for kings Ransom? Do
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: we take a quarterback Marvin Jr. It was a lot
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: more fun then now we get a tackle awesome, another
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: middling season coming.
- 1:12:44Speaker 9: I would also, again, like we said yesterday, like you
- 1:12:46Speaker 9: don't just guaranteed get the tackle, like you know, like
- 1:12:49Speaker 9: there's a million different things that could happen between now
- 1:12:52Speaker 9: and the draft. And I understand that everybody's locked in
- 1:12:55Speaker 9: that Caleb Williams and Drake may are going with the
- 1:12:57Speaker 9: first two picks in the draft, But that's not as
- 1:13:00Speaker 9: they really going to be the case, Like you don't
- 1:13:01Speaker 9: you don't know it's.
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: Going to high jump like forty inches in the people.
- 1:13:05Speaker 9: The second over Yeah right, you know tackle those two
- 1:13:07Speaker 9: tackles are top five type prospects. Marvin Harrison Junior is obviously,
- 1:13:12Speaker 9: you know if he there's a chance that Marvin Harrison
- 1:13:15Speaker 9: Junior could go one one, Like I wouldn't be shocked
- 1:13:17Speaker 9: if the Chicago doesn't get a trade package that it loves,
- 1:13:20Speaker 9: it doesn't want to draft a quarterback, like who knows,
- 1:13:23Speaker 9: you know the Bears do you know.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: What I mean, what are the Bears do? Like your
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: first in row?
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: Like that's I mean, I think that so much of
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: what you said hinges on their decision on justin fields,
- 1:13:31Speaker 5: like I mean it could I mean that pick could
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: easily be up for sale, you know, like for a
- 1:13:36Speaker 5: team like the Patriots if they wanted to to go
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: to number one overall. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: to see another team do it.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: Max from Santa Barbara. Oh yeah, I've been wondering since
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: Josh left why they didn't bring back Charlie Weiss. He
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: grew Brady pretty well and always seemed to be an
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: excellent play caller. Nothing against Billy. Oh but if they
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: brought Charlie back last year, maybe, just maybe, and I
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: know this is just a possible scenario. Mac Jones might
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: not have broken down so badly. Now, this show has
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: always been great. I've been listening since three, but since
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: we really suck this year, it has been better than
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: ever for some strange reason. The question is, do you
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: have past shows from the Glory decades and the archives
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: somewhere that we can access. I think they're out there somewhere. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: it should be somewhere.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: But Charlie Weiss, I think he's coaching done.
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I think he was done with interviewing with US
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: two at the Combines.
- 1:14:28Speaker 9: His son's an interesting not necessarily connecting to the Patriots
- 1:14:32Speaker 9: at all, but he's gonna be. I think he's already
- 1:14:36Speaker 9: an offensive coordinator in college. So yeah, he's a rising name.
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: Jared and Vermont starting to feel the winds change around Foxborough.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: Let me pose this vague scenario, and would it be
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: a disaster keep Belichick trade down from the top five
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: pick and start Zappi in twenty twenty four? Gross could
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: happen though to start the year?
- 1:15:00Speaker 9: Sure, I like, I don't think that if you're bringing
- 1:15:04Speaker 9: back Zappi is like the consensus, you know, unquestioned, supplanted starter,
- 1:15:08Speaker 9: then like, oh no, it's just But if you have
- 1:15:11Speaker 9: like Zappy with like Pennix or Zapy with bo Nix
- 1:15:15Speaker 9: or something like that, then that's like a different conversation.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: But he's saying trade down, So it would have.
- 1:15:20Speaker 9: To be a guy like bo Nicks, Yeah, right right,
- 1:15:22Speaker 9: somebody at the top of the second round or something
- 1:15:24Speaker 9: like that.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: Ricky in Connecticut by way of Puerto Rico, definitely need
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: to get Alex Barth and your team and give more
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: mic time to the ladies. The ladies can have as
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: much as time here.
- 1:15:35Speaker 5: Alex has been coming Wednesday, She's she's also kicking.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: I just wanted to talk about Bill. He's got to stay,
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: says Ricky. The draft and team building process has always
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: appeared collaborative. In the brain drain as a parent, Bill
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: just needs to build out his staff. Robert Craft should
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: apoint Mayo director of player personnel and bring Devon in
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: or another player into the scouting department. Uh. The team
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: can still win as a game plan team with good execution.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: Bill needs did not continue adding responsibilities to his plate,
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: especially in the fourth quarter of his career, predicting five
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: more seasons of Bill, five more seasons.
- 1:16:11Speaker 9: I don't even know Bill wants to coach for five
- 1:16:13Speaker 9: more seasons.
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: Kidding, yeah, I mean two or three maybe, But.
- 1:16:16Speaker 9: That's just another seventy five, seventy six.
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: He's seventy one now, he'll be seventy two on April sixteenth.
- 1:16:22Speaker 9: Oh wow, look at you. My birthday too, Bill and
- 1:16:25Speaker 9: I did you guys share a birthday? And how did
- 1:16:28Speaker 9: I not know that?
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: What Zodi is?
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: That Aris?
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: He's more of Ana.
- 1:16:33Speaker 9: Really, I wouldn't take him as I don't know.
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: I saw it.
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: I don't, I mean in my I'm not. I mean
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: somewhere in the building's ears are perking up about like
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: a horoscope talk or she's gonna come flying in there.
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: I never really felt like an ares, but yeah, now
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: I do that, and I do the hoodie database.
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: That's what my special oh from Wisconsin. So as Bill
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: comes back, he says, do you think we should go
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: back to Mac Jones, bring back to kill Harry? As
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: long as we're doing things that don't work, we might
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: as well.
- 1:16:57Speaker 5: Wow, Matt Jones and nik kil having never worked at
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: least worked at one point long ago. But now I
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: don't I mean, going back to yesterday's conversation, I just
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: I wonder if if they do have to jettison Mac,
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: like if that's if to get him out.
- 1:17:10Speaker 9: Of the I think, get him out of the mix
- 1:17:12Speaker 9: for his own sake too. Like it's I'm not just
- 1:17:14Speaker 9: saying now, like kick him out the door, but like,
- 1:17:16Speaker 9: what do you think it could.
- 1:17:17Speaker 5: Get for him if you trade, if you tried to
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: trade him. I mean, that's sixth fifth something like that.
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: Not even uh Chad in Atlanta sounds like he's in denial.
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: It's gonna happen sometime. Mike Bill doesn't have the time
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: to completely rebuild this team and make it competitive, come
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: to the dark side and rip the band aid off already.
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: The longer Bill is here, the olderest philosophy gets Do
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: you really think he's gonna leave this team better? Than
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: he found it. Blow it up. Don't be scared.
- 1:17:41Speaker 5: Ah No, I mean, look I'm not I'm not like
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: firmly and like he can't go. But I mean, I
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: I'll say that there's a part of me that's intrigued
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: despite all of the mistakes that he's made recently, of
- 1:17:50Speaker 5: what he would do this offseason with this team, like
- 1:17:52Speaker 5: you know, with the money in the draft, and I
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: mean I'm.
- 1:17:55Speaker 9: At sixteen defensive players.
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: I mean, you know, but like you know, like we
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: all make those jokes and like that know, but still,
- 1:18:01Speaker 5: like I mean, he has hit on some traff picks,
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: So I don't know, I mean, what would the philosophy be,
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: like what would he what would he do? What would
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: his actions tell you?
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: As you said, what does he do?
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:18:11Speaker 5: How does he write it?
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: Mike g Reese had a you know, a spitball scenario
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: where Bill stays they bring back Josh with Bill O'Brien.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: Bill completely hands the offense to them like it's yours.
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: So it's instead of Patricia and Judge, it's Josh McDaniels
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: and Bill O'Brien.
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: And now do they have a heavy hand and drafted offensive.
- 1:18:32Speaker 9: Yeah, they're like these are the guys we want the
- 1:18:35Speaker 9: head coaches of the offense. Yeah, But the problem with
- 1:18:38Speaker 9: that I find is, like, so would Josh be the
- 1:18:40Speaker 9: quarterbacks coach in that scenario?
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Pretty much? I would think, right, And it just like.
- 1:18:46Speaker 9: There's a lot of cooks in that kitchen. Yeah, Like
- 1:18:48Speaker 9: that's the problem with that. Like I've thought of that too,
- 1:18:51Speaker 9: of like how can you pigeonhole Josh back into this
- 1:18:54Speaker 9: whole thing? But like it's it's just a lot of cooks,
- 1:18:57Speaker 9: And like their offenses are very very similar, like probably
- 1:19:01Speaker 9: ninety five percent similar, but that little five percent is
- 1:19:05Speaker 9: like some stylistic differences that are pretty major. Like Bill
- 1:19:08Speaker 9: O'Brien doesn't like a fullback Josh McDaniels does, Like is
- 1:19:11Speaker 9: that who you know? How are they going to be
- 1:19:13Speaker 9: two back? Are they gonna be gun? Like where are
- 1:19:15Speaker 9: they gonna go with that?
- 1:19:16Speaker 5: Like that?
- 1:19:16Speaker 9: Those are big difference.
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: I mean, how would you feel, Evan though, if Billy Oh,
- 1:19:19Speaker 5: let's just say left for college season ends, Billy Oh
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: takes a head coaching job in college and they bring
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: in somebody that gives you, I don't have a name,
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: but like gives you that you're like, this guy's interesting
- 1:19:29Speaker 5: like it's it's out off the beaten path. It's not
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: you know, and and we have an introduction party and
- 1:19:34Speaker 5: it's like a big deal that you know, and we're
- 1:19:36Speaker 5: not worried about Oh it's another new offense for mackets,
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: going to be a new quarterback, so you know, we
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: can get away from from worrying about all the new coordinators.
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: But you know what I mean, like what about something
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: like that where it's all right, this offense is now
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: really going to change a lot.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: So somebody who's interesting. So like in San Francisco every night,
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: like this whiteboard, they come in in the morning and
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: somebody has written these really cool plays on it's like
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: goodwill hunting.
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: When they discover this.
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: Kid, right, you know who was that would be like
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: Evan's stream, Like Evan like after hours in here, he's
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: like sneaking in.
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: He's just like draw something up on the board and then.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: He leaves and like.
- 1:20:10Speaker 9: This, you know, you can throw down the field off
- 1:20:13Speaker 9: in RPO. I didn't know that. Uh no, I think
- 1:20:15Speaker 9: the issue that I like, that's a good idea in theory,
- 1:20:19Speaker 9: But then that guy's just going to become a head
- 1:20:20Speaker 9: coach someplace else in like two years. So that's I
- 1:20:24Speaker 9: think as much as Bill Brian hasn't fixed everything, I
- 1:20:27Speaker 9: think part of the reason why he was appealing was
- 1:20:29Speaker 9: because he's going to take a while for him to
- 1:20:32Speaker 9: build up his resume again to be a head coach
- 1:20:34Speaker 9: again somewhere.
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: But if he's good enough to be a head coach,
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: doesn't that mean he's like they're good, Like it's.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: Working like that.
- 1:20:39Speaker 9: Yeah, But if he's not going to be your head coach,
- 1:20:41Speaker 9: then you're just recycling offensive coordinator again, like he as.
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: A quarterback coach that you promote and then he like
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: and then you got a cycle going on the offensive side.
- 1:20:50Speaker 5: So I mean, but you're saying, like you don't want
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: to hire another offensive cordiat unless he promises to be
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: here forever and ever and then no gives the backs
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: He's like, I mean, it's just as hard, Like, you know, that's.
- 1:20:58Speaker 9: Why I want an offensive head coach so that there is.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: No because you can cycle through the coordinators.
- 1:21:04Speaker 9: But yeah, like I just think that you know, if
- 1:21:07Speaker 9: Ben Johnson's your head coach, then that's your offensive play
- 1:21:10Speaker 9: caller and your offensive coordinator hopefully for the next like
- 1:21:14Speaker 9: ten years, right, Like that's what you're hoping for and
- 1:21:17Speaker 9: a defensive lead, whether it's Gerrod or somebody else. Like
- 1:21:20Speaker 9: I'm more okay with figuring that side of the ball
- 1:21:23Speaker 9: out every couple of years than having to completely recycle offense.
- 1:21:26Speaker 9: I mean, I even think you look around the league,
- 1:21:28Speaker 9: like Jalen Hurts is having a lot of problems without
- 1:21:31Speaker 9: Shane Steichen, Josh Allen's having a lot of problems without
- 1:21:34Speaker 9: Brian Dable. Like those guys leave homes and you're just yeah,
- 1:21:38Speaker 9: mahomes with Pienemy another good one, Like now you know,
- 1:21:40Speaker 9: now those guys are gone.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: And Andy reidsive head coach.
- 1:21:45Speaker 9: I think Andy Reid like is what I wish that
- 1:21:48Speaker 9: Bill would be, which is like Andy Reid gives he
- 1:21:52Speaker 9: has Steve Spagnola, who's basically a head coach running his defense,
- 1:21:55Speaker 9: and then he had b Enemy running the offense. And
- 1:21:57Speaker 9: all Andy Reid had to do was do cool stuff,
- 1:21:59Speaker 9: like he just come in. He'd watch the film, he'd commercials,
- 1:22:03Speaker 9: he'd game plan, he'd like draw ridiculous like plays and
- 1:22:08Speaker 9: stuff like that and be like, oh, why don't we
- 1:22:09Speaker 9: just like run this one day? And like that was
- 1:22:12Speaker 9: just his job was just to just kind of come
- 1:22:14Speaker 9: in and just do like have fun with it and
- 1:22:17Speaker 9: just draw stuff and cook stuff up in the kitchen,
- 1:22:20Speaker 9: and he didn't have to worry about all the little
- 1:22:22Speaker 9: nitty gritty details. And then he had Brett Veitch running
- 1:22:25Speaker 9: personnel like that. That was That was Andy Reid. And
- 1:22:28Speaker 9: now he's had to go back to his roots of
- 1:22:31Speaker 9: coordinating an offense and it hasn't necessarily gone very well.
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: Kyle and pembroke this week. And I was one of
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: those doomsday people when it came to the draft. However,
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: I looked inside myself and found my inner Patriots fans.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: Beating Buffalo, ruining their playoff push and keeping the dominant
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: streak going against the Jets would taste so sweet and
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: would be a great end to this miserable, no good,
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: rotten season. So from here on out, I'm no longer
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: rooting for the Tank. There you go.
- 1:22:56Speaker 5: Well, that was a little bit of my feeling of just,
- 1:22:58Speaker 5: you know, remembering how frustrated the twenty thirteen and twenty
- 1:23:01Speaker 5: fifteen AFC Championships games where the.
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: You know, the the Harper's moth.
- 1:23:05Speaker 5: I mean, like you you kind of killed the Denver
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: Broncos season last week, Like I mean, I kind of
- 1:23:11Speaker 5: take some enjoyment of that. And like you watch football
- 1:23:14Speaker 5: to enjoy watching football, you don't watch football to enjoy
- 1:23:17Speaker 5: hopefully the draft pick. Like hopefully because God knows that
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: even if you tank for the draft pick, they might
- 1:23:22Speaker 5: not take the guy you want anyway. So just I
- 1:23:25Speaker 5: can take some enjoyment from watching.
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: Matthew and New Mexico says, everyone crying about winning against
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: the Broncos and hurting our draft position should really stop
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: watching the Patriots. You aren't a real fan, I agree. Wow, Wow,
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: speaking of real fans. Eldred in North Carolina? What's up? Eldred?
- 1:23:43Speaker 10: Hey?
- 1:23:45Speaker 12: All right, Hi, you've got to be kidding me, right,
- 1:23:49Speaker 12: I mean you really got to be kids?
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: Why what about what to do?
- 1:23:53Speaker 12: Three more years? Three more years to keep you for
- 1:23:57Speaker 12: the last six say that? Relaxing man?
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: Dude? When did I say that? I don't even know.
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: I'm just making you.
- 1:24:04Speaker 12: Tell you you're talking about Keith Bill See what he
- 1:24:06Speaker 12: gonna do this year?
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: After?
- 1:24:07Speaker 10: You know?
- 1:24:08Speaker 5: I mean no, all right, I mean make me too.
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: But you you you would have no interest at all
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: in seeing what Bill would do with all the resources
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: they have this I.
- 1:24:18Speaker 12: Haven't seen enough what Bill undone. I don't feel enough,
- 1:24:22Speaker 12: you know, I mean done. Yeah, he's the greatest coach
- 1:24:25Speaker 12: of all time, but done the part he's the greatest coach.
- 1:24:29Speaker 12: We had the greatest player of all time. It's costed
- 1:24:32Speaker 12: left what constant left?
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:24:35Speaker 12: And what you got now out of his own words,
- 1:24:38Speaker 12: I could take any fifteenth quarterback and winning my sister,
- 1:24:42Speaker 12: all right, you got to you ain't one nan, Yeah, Okay,
- 1:24:46Speaker 12: that's the constant. That's the constant.
- 1:24:48Speaker 7: Bro.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: Well but let me ask you. Let me ask you
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: a question, al drib I mean how much? And that's
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: just a real question because we talked about it earlier, like.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: Do you think Tom.
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: Brady was like, way, way, way way better than Peyton
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: Manning and Patrick mahonone, Like do you think that he is?
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: Like because I just I do think And it's the librawise.
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: So you think that like Tom Brady.
- 1:25:09Speaker 12: He might not have been athletic. He might have been
- 1:25:11Speaker 12: athletic as far as picking people apart, yes, doing what
- 1:25:15Speaker 12: but the ball yet even with taker toys instead of
- 1:25:18Speaker 12: the ferraris and the BLI mcgeine is everybody head.
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: So you think the Patriots would have been better without
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: Bill Belichick over the last twenty years.
- 1:25:29Speaker 12: Maybe coaching wise, yeah, coach coach, yeah. NFL facts. NFL facts.
- 1:25:37Speaker 12: You ain't gotta believe. Look it up every time, but
- 1:25:41Speaker 12: Hallifaian quarterback leaves the NFL team that same coaches there,
- 1:25:46Speaker 12: it takes them five to ten maybe longer to get
- 1:25:49Speaker 12: back coming.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: It not every time. Yes, yes, sir, what forty nine
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: ers Montana left? They had?
- 1:25:56Speaker 12: Yeah, the party.
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: What about the when Joe left went they won a
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: super Bowl?
- 1:26:02Speaker 12: If you an't had the same team, it took him
- 1:26:04Speaker 12: four years with the same team. The four years after
- 1:26:07Speaker 12: my general left, I thought they won.
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: What about they went after that?
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: Yeah? After that? After that, well, you know you're talking
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: about winning a super Bowl, but they were winning. They
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: were in the playoffs and contending every year. You know,
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: like winning a super Bowl is really hard year. No,
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: we're not, But I'm just saying it's not right. It
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: doesn't have to.
- 1:26:31Speaker 12: It had down that quarterback lead every time that it
- 1:26:34Speaker 12: ain't the coach, it's the quarterback. Look it up.
- 1:26:37Speaker 5: I understand that, Eldrid. But what makes the Patriots unique
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: was that they sustained success for twenty years. They went
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: twenty years, So that was why my question was is
- 1:26:46Speaker 5: that you responded the right way, like you just think
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: that Tom Brady is head and should because Peyton Manning
- 1:26:52Speaker 5: didn't get he wasn't great for twenty years. I mean,
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: Patrick Mahomes. It's looking a little dicey right now. So
- 1:26:56Speaker 5: you know, my my just contention is that, and I'm
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: not giving Bill all the credit, but I'm saying Bill
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: deserves credit for maintaining the team for twenty years. It
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: wasn't just Tom Brady being two thousand times, but.
- 1:27:07Speaker 12: Like I said, was on the field.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: Oh yeah, no, of.
- 1:27:10Speaker 5: Course, Like nobody's arguing that, like the coach and the
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: quarterback are equals.
- 1:27:13Speaker 12: No one's arguing that, Okay, and I gotta get to
- 1:27:17Speaker 12: defense to put the players the tradition with the defense
- 1:27:20Speaker 12: coaching wise, Yeah, but like I said, you can't coach
- 1:27:23Speaker 12: if you ain't got the player.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: No, it's true. It's true.
- 1:27:25Speaker 12: Players like we had the last five years, just clipboard.
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: It's true. But you couldn't You could all make the
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: also make the case if it wasn't for Tom Brady,
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: Peyton Manning might have had the same run of dominance
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: because they were winning every year and it was the
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: Patriots stopping them. You know, getting in the way, you know,
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: And it wasn't always Tom Brady beating Peyton Manning. It
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: was the Patriots defense beating Peyton Manning Pittsburgh, you know,
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: or you know the other loss.
- 1:27:52Speaker 12: Well, I mean just back then, back then offense you
- 1:27:56Speaker 12: can count of the bed doing thirty points.
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: Oh yeah, okay, not all the time. I mean, you know,
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: you won a lot of games in the twenties against
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: the Colts too, But I I know, I mean, I
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: just I think it's been proven that Tom Brady was
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: the key, you know, he was the key.
- 1:28:13Speaker 9: And I don't and I don't think that Bill they
- 1:28:15Speaker 9: would disagree with that, like he like, he's all I
- 1:28:19Speaker 9: think he's pretty much always agree with that. And I
- 1:28:21Speaker 9: understand that people think that maybe deep down he feels differently,
- 1:28:24Speaker 9: and that's just his publicly what he's saying. But I
- 1:28:28Speaker 9: just think that this revision is history now because the
- 1:28:31Speaker 9: last couple of years now we're going to say that
- 1:28:34Speaker 9: Bill wasn't actually a good coach, like for twenty years
- 1:28:36Speaker 9: here and and he you know, it was all Brady Like.
- 1:28:39Speaker 9: That's just the pushback that I always have with it.
- 1:28:41Speaker 9: Of course it was mostly Brady, of course, Brady is
- 1:28:45Speaker 9: the goat. Like, no one's arguing that point. Like the
- 1:28:47Speaker 9: point is is that now we're just looking back and
- 1:28:50Speaker 9: we're saying, oh, actually Bill had nothing to do with it.
- 1:28:52Speaker 9: He wasn't a good coach or whatever, Like come on.
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: Yeah, well then that's you know, like do you think
- 1:28:56Speaker 5: that San Francisco is engaged in debates about was it
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: walsher Montana? Like yeah, Bill Walsh has his special place
- 1:29:02Speaker 5: in an NFL history offense he created and you know
- 1:29:04Speaker 5: the job.
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: That he did, and Joe Montana has his place too,
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: But why do you think that is? Though? That's interesting,
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: Like why isn't there a debate in San Francisco about
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: who was more response? Social media didn't exist in the eighties.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: Do you think it's social media or do you think
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: it was the personalities of those two people's.
- 1:29:22Speaker 5: That's maybe that's very possible too that I mean, you know, Walsh,
- 1:29:25Speaker 5: I know he's kind of had that you know, grandfatherly
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: kind of figure, but you know the same thing with
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: Troy Yikman, Jimmy Johnson, like you know, or Mahomes right now,
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: like you know, what what is this going to look like?
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: If if if Kansas City kind of evens out and
- 1:29:38Speaker 5: they're not really that dominant anymore. I mean, they're certainly
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: always going to be good. I look, I think Patrick
- 1:29:42Speaker 5: Mahomes is the best quarterback still in the.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: League right now.
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: But I think you're just getting a little bit of
- 1:29:46Speaker 5: a glimpse of that. Everyone just seemed like, oh, well,
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: now the Chiefs are gonna have twenty years of success
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: with Patrick Mahomes and and maybe they will, maybe they'll
- 1:29:53Speaker 5: turn it around and they'll find some star players to
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: Eldrid's point, But it's just I think it's you're seeing
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: right now how hard it is is to sustain success
- 1:30:01Speaker 5: for that long.
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: And I give Bill a chunk of that credit.
- 1:30:04Speaker 6: Yeah, And that's why I think the logical answer is
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: like neither one probably has the success without each other
- 1:30:09Speaker 6: at times.
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: And they said that too, Storm And and like I said,
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: like so much of this argument though, so much of
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: this argument, like it relies completely on but what does
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: Bill really think? Because deep down, deep down, it's all
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: him in his mind, you know, and which I've never
- 1:30:23Speaker 5: heard him say. And I know that, you know, you
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: can give me all these examples of you know, why
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: people think that that that's how he is and maybe
- 1:30:30Speaker 5: he is. But all I've ever heard that man say
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: is passing all credit goes to the players and saying
- 1:30:35Speaker 5: those things. Now, you know, people say, oh, that's just
- 1:30:37Speaker 5: lip service, and that's not what he really thinks. Fine,
- 1:30:39Speaker 5: if you want to believe that, that's great, But I've
- 1:30:41Speaker 5: never heard him do anything but but give all the
- 1:30:43Speaker 5: credits to the player.
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: The thing that people under you know, don't give him
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: enough credit for is just just keeping it together, you know,
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: during that whole time. You know, like we talked earlier
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: about the whole Alex Guerrero situation with the Patriots, another
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: coach or GM might have not been able to handle
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: that and it could have ripped the team totally apart
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: where it's unsalvageable. But Bill, you know, even though it
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: was rough going, he navigated through that in you know,
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: fourteen sixteen eight. You know they won again. Yeah, you know,
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: after all of that. But like I said, a weaker
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: head coach last GM may not have been able to
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: do that, may not have been able to keep it together,
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: and it could have just destroyed the team.
- 1:31:24Speaker 5: I mean, I think about the weir on the Cincinnati
- 1:31:26Speaker 5: point and like that point of the fourteenth season. When
- 1:31:28Speaker 5: I mean for me before this, that was like the
- 1:31:31Speaker 5: inflection point of like is it over? That was one
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: of the real and I mean then that was a
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: team then that what went to the next four of
- 1:31:38Speaker 5: five Super Bowls and won three of them. So you know,
- 1:31:41Speaker 5: it's it's a lesser coach might have lost the team
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: at that point, but you know they and but look
- 1:31:45Speaker 5: like let's just bring it back to what it was
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: really about. Yeah, Gronk, you had Dante high Tower, you
- 1:31:49Speaker 5: had star players that made big plays in the biggest moments,
- 1:31:52Speaker 5: and he drafted those players, developed those players. You know,
- 1:31:55Speaker 5: those players get the credit for those wins. But still
- 1:31:58Speaker 5: that's what I do. They work and win.
- 1:32:00Speaker 9: And I think Brady has said this in the past
- 1:32:01Speaker 9: two like he Bill deserves so much credit for Brady period,
- 1:32:06Speaker 9: Like just like he's a six round pick and he
- 1:32:08Speaker 9: puts him in in two thousand and one, then he
- 1:32:11Speaker 9: sticks with him after two thousand and one, and it
- 1:32:14Speaker 9: wasn't you know, Bill said to himself, it wasn't really
- 1:32:16Speaker 9: until like three that Brady takes off. And is you
- 1:32:21Speaker 9: know Brady at that point And I just don't a
- 1:32:25Speaker 9: lot of other organizations. He probably never even gets a
- 1:32:27Speaker 9: chance to play. But Bill saw it in practice and
- 1:32:31Speaker 9: saw the work ethic and saw the ability and all
- 1:32:35Speaker 9: that kind of stuff, and he took a chance on
- 1:32:37Speaker 9: him and it was probably the best lottery ticket that
- 1:32:40Speaker 9: anybody's ever had.
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: As Brady said, you have a coach with you know,
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: we say what you will, but an unparalleled knowledge of
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: NFL history and all that pouring into him for those
- 1:32:50Speaker 5: first two seasons, you know, even the season when he
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: sat like, you know, it's it's I mean, that's that's
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: all part of it. But nobody's sitting here trying to
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: say that the dynasty is a fifty to fifty split, right,
- 1:32:59Speaker 5: but you know.
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: All we know, like that scenario with Bledsoe and Brady
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: could be one of the receipts that Bill is keeping.
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, you wanted to sign Bledsoe to one
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: hundred million dollar contract. Remember I said you shouldn't do it?
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: Yeah? You know, did he not did anything?
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: That's a yeah, Well, legend has it that Bill wasn't
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: on board with that. Yeah, And that was an ownership
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: thing We're given him.
- 1:33:21Speaker 6: If we do run him out of town, like you're
- 1:33:24Speaker 6: damned if you do. You're damned if you don't in
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: a way. I think Mike made a good point earlier.
- 1:33:29Speaker 6: With all the logistics of this offseason, the cap space,
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: the draft pick, do you really want to just bring
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: in a new guy, let him handle all of that,
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: and then what if it's not the right guy?
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: And then we're looking in hindsight like it's possible wrap.
- 1:33:41Speaker 6: We had at least we knew what we had going
- 1:33:45Speaker 6: into managing all that, So it's.
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: Like, if it doesn't work out, it's back Elgar, We're
- 1:33:50Speaker 5: bringing him back.
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: But now they could be thinking that, and they could
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: also be saying, but bringing in Mayo keeps some of
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: that continuity in that structure. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:34:01Speaker 5: You know, I think the quite a good question is
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: you know, what do you want to keep?
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: Like what you know?
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: I'm just saying philosophically, what you know. I think like
- 1:34:08Speaker 5: we could probably all agree like the defense is well constructed,
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: they would be. I mean, I would have loved to
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: have seen them this year with Judonna and Gonzalez and
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: you know, I know those states that's unrealistic every year
- 1:34:18Speaker 5: their injuries, but you know, look there've been I.
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: Think's were constructed, but I also think there were also well.
- 1:34:23Speaker 5: Coached and they're and there and then players are blossoming,
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: right Like. I mean, that was one of my biggest
- 1:34:27Speaker 5: arguments going into this season, was that just guys aren't blossoming.
- 1:34:30Speaker 5: I mean, Barmore kind of had a slow start. I
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: mean I remember early in the season being like, crap,
- 1:34:34Speaker 5: we thought we had a star in the making. And
- 1:34:36Speaker 5: you know, now you're seeing guys like Peppers and Tavai
- 1:34:39Speaker 5: and you know, guys that they've kind of picked up
- 1:34:41Speaker 5: like they usually did off the scrap heap of other
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: teams or you know, targeted trades that all this doesn't
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: make sense at the time, but you know, you are
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: actually seeing some players now, admittedly on the defensive side
- 1:34:51Speaker 5: of the ball, blossoming, and that to me is how
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: you get out of it. Again, Like, if you can't
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: draft them, you got to develop them. So they've they've
- 1:34:57Speaker 5: had some solid development this year, but it's restricted mostly
- 1:35:01Speaker 5: to the defensive Sidey, it's.
- 1:35:02Speaker 9: All about offense and offensive philosophy. I just in personnel
- 1:35:06Speaker 9: on that side of the ball. I just I don't
- 1:35:08Speaker 9: feel like he's in tune with building a modern offense
- 1:35:13Speaker 9: with a modern quarterback with skill players, Like now, you
- 1:35:18Speaker 9: know the fact that they drafted a quarterback in the
- 1:35:20Speaker 9: first round and they had him on the rookie contract
- 1:35:24Speaker 9: and never took a big swing at a wide receiver
- 1:35:26Speaker 9: for three years is crazy. Like that's absolutely crazy. I mean,
- 1:35:30Speaker 9: just look at every other team in the way that
- 1:35:32Speaker 9: they've built around the quarterback. Like Miami has two of them,
- 1:35:36Speaker 9: you know, the Philly has two of them. Like they
- 1:35:38Speaker 9: used a first round pick on Smith, and they traded
- 1:35:41Speaker 9: a first round pick for AJ Brown and then paid
- 1:35:43Speaker 9: a J Brown like and you know, all these different
- 1:35:46Speaker 9: types of things, like all these teams you know, allen
- 1:35:49Speaker 9: with digs and go on down the board, and the
- 1:35:53Speaker 9: fact that they never felt the need to make that
- 1:35:55Speaker 9: move is crazy.
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: Totally agree. I mean, Kansas City may be ruining the
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: fact that they haven't done that.
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: They yeah or now then now they're you know they
- 1:36:03Speaker 5: but they same thing that the Patriots tried to do.
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: We find you have some distressed assets, they don't have
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: some talent.
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: But I mean it's it's funny because it's like you
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: look at O seven and like the team building of
- 1:36:12Speaker 5: that offseason and like not like I remember they sign
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: Dante Stalworth and being like oh nice, like that would
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: like No, it's like Welker and Moss and I mean
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: they they over invested in offense, and so you know,
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: is it I mean, he's done it before. Is it
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: crazy to think that maybe that would be the focus.
- 1:36:27Speaker 9: But even then when they like those were even kind
- 1:36:30Speaker 9: of discounted players though, right, they.
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: Didn't know what they had.
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: I mean, they thought Welker was good, but he hadn't
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: really proven it yet. And Moss came here with the
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: dog label from the Raiders, and you know, he rejuvenated
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: his career here.
- 1:36:44Speaker 9: He really only lasted with Moss like, yeah, two years,
- 1:36:48Speaker 9: you're great, they were good two years. It's a great point.
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: I would just say, at least they recognized that we
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: have to overstock the offense, like we you know, we
- 1:36:55Speaker 5: got out of six and we just didn't have the
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: horses to compete with men and the Colts basically, So
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: you know, I mean it's just it's like, why can't.
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: You always can we just take that again?
- 1:37:06Speaker 9: The Bill O'Brien move had to be step number one, right,
- 1:37:10Speaker 9: Like we all felt that way at the time. They
- 1:37:11Speaker 9: had to bring in a experience, real offensive coordinator. But
- 1:37:15Speaker 9: that that's kind of all they did. Like the rest
- 1:37:17Speaker 9: of it was a lateral moves at best.
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: Like, but dude, you you just said, you know, why
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: can't they just do that again? Meaning what they did
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: in O seven. But the point is, no, they didn't
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: go after the top. Yeah, yeah, no, I underspend a
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: lot of money.
- 1:37:30Speaker 5: No, I understand, but I would just say, but the
- 1:37:32Speaker 5: overlying philosophy, though, was that regardless of what they did
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: or didn't spend, they knew they needed to go that direction.
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: Well they know, and they would argue they did it
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: their way.
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: They would argue, we spent more money in free agency
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: than anyone else had. It was mostly offensive players. Then
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: the next year we brought in Parker that are, and
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: then we brought in Jujus Shoes, you know, like we've
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: been bringing in guys. But to your you know, it's
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: not like you know, yeah, but the top. No, they
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: didn't do what Miami did.
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: And just like no, you know, yeah, I got I
- 1:38:01Speaker 5: totally get what you're saying. But I think that there
- 1:38:03Speaker 5: was you know, some smarts to it in like Welker
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: like that move, you know what I mean, It's not
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: I mean, you're right, you're not like going out and
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: let's move a first round pick for this guy because
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: we need him and they're gonna do things the way
- 1:38:13Speaker 5: that they want.
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: To do them.
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: But I just I think it does it just illustrate
- 1:38:16Speaker 5: that they they at least at that point, had an
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: understanding of, like, we have to over invest in the
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: offense this year.
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: It can't just be a Juju Smith Schuster.
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: It can't just be.
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: DeVante Parker the crown.
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: You know, it's like you get one, you know, like
- 1:38:28Speaker 5: one Dante Stalwart Perosis, like that would kind of be
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: what it would be, like he's a you know five,
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: you know, fine, but if you don't have Gronk and
- 1:38:36Speaker 5: Edelman making the making the stir and the straw on the.
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: Drink, you know, like it's not gonna But again, i'll
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: i'll Edelman was what a sixth round pick, so they
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: didn't know what they had on him. They again, they
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: didn't go after the top wide receiver in the draft
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: to get Edelman. Gronk was a second round pick, and
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: when they did, he was undervalued. It was because of
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: his back. Now, that one, I think that was good
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: scouting and just a perfect pick. But Edelman, like, yeah,
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: he blossomed as a player. I just think that and
- 1:39:07Speaker 2: he was able to learn because you had Welker on
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: the team already.
- 1:39:10Speaker 9: Yeah, in the market's changed, right, Like nowadays, these receivers
- 1:39:14Speaker 9: are going earlier and earlier in the draft, and they're
- 1:39:16Speaker 9: getting paid more than they were ten fifteen years ago.
- 1:39:19Speaker 9: So you could get guys at that point in time
- 1:39:23Speaker 9: for a lot less or later in the draft or
- 1:39:25Speaker 9: something like that. Now, guys like you know, Marvin Harrison
- 1:39:30Speaker 9: Junior is going to go like second overall, and then
- 1:39:32Speaker 9: Roma Dunes from Washington's probably gonna go in the top
- 1:39:35Speaker 9: twenty and so on and so forth. It's just that
- 1:39:38Speaker 9: these receivers are just flying off boards in drafts now,
- 1:39:42Speaker 9: and yeah, there's always going to be that a Puka
- 1:39:45Speaker 9: Nikua like somewhere that follows through the cracks, but like,
- 1:39:48Speaker 9: good luck trying to hit that needle in the haystack.
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: Yeah, pre is an Indie. What's up, pre Hey?
- 1:39:56Speaker 15: I was just calling in to say point on Bill Belichick.
- 1:40:01Speaker 15: I think it's kind of ridiculous that like the disrespect
- 1:40:05Speaker 15: he's getting, and I get it, like I wanted them
- 1:40:08Speaker 15: to take Pickings. I wanted them to take Alex Peers.
- 1:40:11Speaker 15: It's frustrating. I wanted them to keep Brady. But I
- 1:40:15Speaker 15: feel like football is it's like chess on draft. We
- 1:40:18Speaker 15: have the best chess master, so I feel like we'll
- 1:40:21Speaker 15: never get anyone better. And that's my question to everyone
- 1:40:24Speaker 15: that wants to gone is who will be better? Right
- 1:40:27Speaker 15: than Bill Belichi?
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: Great?
- 1:40:28Speaker 9: Who would be better than four and eleven? You don't
- 1:40:31Speaker 9: think any other coach in the league can can have
- 1:40:34Speaker 9: a better record than that.
- 1:40:35Speaker 15: No, no, that's a fair point. But like, think about
- 1:40:37Speaker 15: all the games they were in at the start of
- 1:40:39Speaker 15: the year. If you had Bailey's after your competite quarterback
- 1:40:42Speaker 15: play like Cam Newton honestly, like just someone that's not
- 1:40:46Speaker 15: gonna just turn the ball over and it is so
- 1:40:48Speaker 15: afraid of the rush the Colts game.
- 1:40:50Speaker 9: So now Cam Newton was the solution, not be.
- 1:40:54Speaker 15: Dearris, you know it would be they would be in
- 1:40:56Speaker 15: the playoffs.
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: But but and I agree, like if Mack was a
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: better player, they would have maybe won some of those games. However,
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: that it's part of how Bill, you know, built this
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: team leading up to now and how he mismanaged Mac
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: last year. You know, so Bill has you know, some
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: of the blame as to why they're four and eleven.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: It's not just the quarterback. It's it's the development of
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: the quarterback, and you know who is around the quarterback.
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: So coaching wise, like if we're just talking about coaching,
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: you know, other coaches may not even been able to
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: win four games. You know, maybe Bill's coaching got them
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: four games, but his building of the team also kept
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: them from winning more than four games. So it's complicated.
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: You can't just look at it as one thing just coaching.
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: It's he's in charge of the whole team and right now,
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: the way the team was constructed kept them from winning
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: games this season.
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I.
- 1:42:00Speaker 15: Definitely the fair point, and I would agree with that,
- 1:42:02Speaker 15: Like it's frustrating for me to be like picking stick
- 1:42:05Speaker 15: and snakes and they take and then it's like pierce
- 1:42:07Speaker 15: this mount tickets and then they take this short guy.
- 1:42:09Speaker 15: I'm like, I don't even know who he is. And
- 1:42:12Speaker 15: then I'm like, okay, maybe they know something. And then
- 1:42:15Speaker 15: he's not very good.
- 1:42:16Speaker 12: So I get it too.
- 1:42:17Speaker 15: And he's the guy who's in charge of that.
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think, I think I think a lot
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: and thanks to the cal three, I think a lot
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: of people's frustration who are offensive minded are Bill Isn't
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: Bill doesn't respect the offense the way he respects the defense.
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: And I know that's crazy to hear, and you know
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: Bill would bristle at the thought of that, but it's
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: just apparent in the way, you know he he stocks them,
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: you know, like I go back to Joe Tooney, like
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: they you know, they valued him enough to put a
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: franchise tag in him, but they didn't value him enough
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: to before that giving him an early deal and extending
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: him and paying him money. You know, like he was
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: a coin. He was a foundational piece of your offensive line.
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: You could pay play like four positions. He was a
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: solid guy. And then then they did the same thing
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: with Shaq Mason, they got rid of him.
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: It's like the line hasn't recovered since.
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it really has it. It's been the beginning of
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: the end.
- 1:43:12Speaker 9: And you know that's Dante also, Yeah, go back to
- 1:43:15Speaker 9: something that you said about City. So, Mike, that's that's
- 1:43:19Speaker 9: my biggest fear with that is like we're just doing
- 1:43:21Speaker 9: the same thing again, like where you're you're moving on
- 1:43:25Speaker 9: from a proven NFL quality starter if to because it's cheaper.
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: If Bill, if Bill paid as much attention to offensive
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: line as he the defensive line, no one, we'd have
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: no problems. He loves his defensive lineman. He'll extend guys there,
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: you know, and recognize even you know, middling players, but
- 1:43:45Speaker 2: they're good for his system. So you know, guys like
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: Dietrich Wise and Godshaw will always have a job here
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: because they they play their position well. Uh but he
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: doesn't think the same way apparently about the offense.
- 1:44:00Speaker 9: You know, yeah, I just I feel like they're constantly
- 1:44:04Speaker 9: chasing their tail on offense. Where Jacobe Myers leaves, So
- 1:44:08Speaker 9: now we have to sign Juju Smith Schuster or you know,
- 1:44:10Speaker 9: John new Smith's signing doesn't work out. So now we're
- 1:44:12Speaker 9: signing Mike Asiki. And we traded Jack Mason, so now
- 1:44:16Speaker 9: and we got we didn't re sign Joe Toney, So
- 1:44:18Speaker 9: now I had the draft of guard in the first round.
- 1:44:20Speaker 9: And now we're gonna do it again with Onwenu and
- 1:44:22Speaker 9: we're gonna hope that a fourth round pick is gonna
- 1:44:24Speaker 9: give him the same productions as on Whenu, and like
- 1:44:27Speaker 9: then they're constantly just replacing him, trying to plug holes
- 1:44:30Speaker 9: in the boat, and it's like instead of building something,
- 1:44:34Speaker 9: it's just trying not to take on water. On that
- 1:44:37Speaker 9: side of the ball.
- 1:44:37Speaker 6: I go back to Jacoby a lot too, because I
- 1:44:40Speaker 6: just think, like an undrafted guy that you developed that
- 1:44:44Speaker 6: is so reliable, what would have it is said to
- 1:44:46Speaker 6: the locker room to keep a guy like that here
- 1:44:48Speaker 6: and reward him, and he embodies really everything we wanted
- 1:44:52Speaker 6: here in this culture. And again, an undrafted guy, he's
- 1:44:55Speaker 6: gonna have.
- 1:44:56Speaker 5: That loyalty to you and imagine, I mean imagine him.
- 1:44:59Speaker 5: It's not different of Juju, just with Pop and with
- 1:45:02Speaker 5: what Bourn did you know before he got hurt and
- 1:45:04Speaker 5: you know Parker with what he brings, which you know,
- 1:45:06Speaker 5: I know is some people, he's a hot button topic.
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: But you know, I just even with Mac.
- 1:45:11Speaker 5: You know, with Mac, what would have been like if
- 1:45:13Speaker 5: if you brought back the.
- 1:45:15Speaker 9: Goal should have been to build with Jacoby instead of
- 1:45:20Speaker 9: making a lateral move which turned out to be even
- 1:45:23Speaker 9: a step backwards with Juju. But he in the moment
- 1:45:26Speaker 9: like I can't have to be fair, like I thought
- 1:45:29Speaker 9: at worst it was going to be a lateral move too,
- 1:45:31Speaker 9: from Juju to Jacoby. But they really should have been
- 1:45:34Speaker 9: looking to add to Jacoby. And like Jacoby is not
- 1:45:37Speaker 9: like the Raiders pay Jacoby twenty five million dollars a year,
- 1:45:40Speaker 9: So like you could have had Jacoby pretty easily with
- 1:45:43Speaker 9: another offensive piece around him. Like, why you know this team,
- 1:45:48Speaker 9: I think we had a collar like a while ago
- 1:45:50Speaker 9: that said, well, what if this team was Jacoby Buyers
- 1:45:53Speaker 9: and DeAndre Hopkins, Like how much better would the offense
- 1:45:56Speaker 9: have been? Yeah, and maybe they wouldn't have not gonna
- 1:45:59Speaker 9: win a Super Bowl with that team or anything like that,
- 1:46:01Speaker 9: but I think they certainly they would not have been
- 1:46:04Speaker 9: dead last in scoring. I don't think with those two
- 1:46:06Speaker 9: receivers on the team.
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: No.
- 1:46:07Speaker 5: And Jacoby's proven it too with his performance this year
- 1:46:10Speaker 5: with the Raiders. He's the same player there that.
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: He was here. Franklin and Baltimore writes in the BB
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: Vers Tom debate is entirely derived from where the latter
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: was picked and your perception of that. If you're someone
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: who believes Tom was made great, you believe Bill deserves
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: the majority of the credit. If you believe Tom was
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: disserviced by his idiot coach in Michigan and thus was
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: improperly evaluated coming into the league, you believe Brady deserves
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: most of the credit. I personally believe it's a mix
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: of both, but I do lean more on the latter argument,
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: because I mean, come on, if you just watch Brady's
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: Michigan film, he should have never been a six round pick.
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: Just goes to show you even professionals can miss on
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: obvious talent.
- 1:46:47Speaker 9: Okay, well I was what like six when Tom Brady
- 1:46:54Speaker 9: I missed on that one. Du I mean, like nobody, I.
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: Just have not heard anyone try to say that deserves
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: more credit than than than Tom does, and like I
- 1:47:03Speaker 5: feel like we're constantly arguing against that.
- 1:47:05Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, I mean the story about him back at Michigan,
- 1:47:08Speaker 9: it's a fair point. Though it was it Chad Henny
- 1:47:11Speaker 9: or someone like that, the son of son of that
- 1:47:16Speaker 9: I just see. I just said chat Henny because it's
- 1:47:19Speaker 9: like all and then and then Michigan.
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: Court was the court of the pitcher too, who was
- 1:47:24Speaker 5: like super athlete and then played for the Yankees. Drew Henson.
- 1:47:28Speaker 9: Drew Henson, same guy. They might as well be the
- 1:47:30Speaker 9: same person.
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: Right aj in the Bay Area. But from Providence, I
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: hear what many of you are saying about the state
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: of the roster and not being a quarterback away from contention.
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: But the matter is simple. You get a franchise quarterback.
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: In the top five, you can get the tackle, the
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: wide receiver, the pass rush, or the corner in other
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: parts of the first round. The chances of hitting on
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: a quarterback when picking this high are significantly higher than
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: when picking them later in the draft. We have other
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: draft picks. The top pick in this draft goes on
- 1:47:59Speaker 2: a quarterback. You can get the other positions through free
- 1:48:02Speaker 2: agency as well. You swing big to get the franchise
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: altering quarterback of the future.
- 1:48:08Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm totally with you. I'm just not drafting the
- 1:48:10Speaker 9: quarterback just to draft the quarterback, right, Like, it's got
- 1:48:13Speaker 9: to be the right quarterback. Like, if you are really
- 1:48:16Speaker 9: convinced about the quarterbacks in this draft, and you really
- 1:48:19Speaker 9: have a great feeling about Drake may that that he's
- 1:48:23Speaker 9: going to be the guy, then there's no argument. Of
- 1:48:25Speaker 9: course you take the quarterback. But if you're not sold
- 1:48:27Speaker 9: on it, then I'm not taking Zach Wilson, Like, I'm
- 1:48:30Speaker 9: just not doing that, Like, I just don't see how
- 1:48:33Speaker 9: that's helpful for the team at all, just because he
- 1:48:35Speaker 9: has quarterback next to his name. To take a guy
- 1:48:38Speaker 9: that I just even looking back on it, I still
- 1:48:41Speaker 9: can't believe that the Jets took Zach Wilson where they
- 1:48:44Speaker 9: took him, and it's just what that was. That's the
- 1:48:47Speaker 9: mistake that a lot of teams make in this position,
- 1:48:49Speaker 9: is they get desperate and they just take the quarterback
- 1:48:52Speaker 9: just to do it.
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: All.
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: Right, let's see coming all, you know, Like they still
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: have some talent around them that I mean, they're lucky
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: that they didn't miss on Quentin Williams and you know
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: what's his face the receiver and like Garabilson, like they
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: they've made some good picks. But I mean even the
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: tackle Beckton didn't really work out for them too. So
- 1:49:11Speaker 5: it's just like even no matter how many times you
- 1:49:13Speaker 5: get in the top ten, and even if you hit
- 1:49:15Speaker 5: on a couple, like, there's no guarantee.
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:49:17Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: Jeremy who tried to call earlier from Saskatchewan, but Canada
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: they have a time limit on how long you're on hold, right,
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: cut you right off. But the reason he called was
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: he was wondering about Brian Flores as a head coach.
- 1:49:32Speaker 2: That's an interesting one.
- 1:49:33Speaker 5: And I mean, I think he's getting a lot of
- 1:49:34Speaker 5: praise right now for what he's been doing in Minnesota,
- 1:49:36Speaker 5: and well just you know how he's just a spin
- 1:49:39Speaker 5: the dial guy, and I think that's you know, what's
- 1:49:41Speaker 5: what's fun with his defense? I mean ibl four, you know,
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: just in general his coaching style. I know, he was
- 1:49:46Speaker 5: really you know, respected, at least by like our peers
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: that were you know, had cross paths with him while
- 1:49:51Speaker 5: he was here. I don't know what the relationships are
- 1:49:54Speaker 5: like elsewhere. I don't know if if you're ready to
- 1:49:56Speaker 5: give him another head coaching chance here.
- 1:49:57Speaker 9: Yeah, I know Miami wasn't exactly positive about him as
- 1:50:02Speaker 9: a people person.
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:50:03Speaker 9: It's it's the same thing that you always hear about
- 1:50:05Speaker 9: Belichick guys, you know, Patricia, Judge, McDaniels. They just don't
- 1:50:10Speaker 9: handle the CEO elements of being a head coach very well,
- 1:50:14Speaker 9: you know, people in the building and relationships and things
- 1:50:18Speaker 9: like that. He's an awesome defensive coach and he was
- 1:50:21Speaker 9: here too, great x as and O's coach.
- 1:50:24Speaker 5: But he blitzed nine or we've blitzened too nine two
- 1:50:26Speaker 5: nine two.
- 1:50:27Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:50:27Speaker 11: I know.
- 1:50:27Speaker 9: I read an article on ESPN about the couple like
- 1:50:31Speaker 9: the Wrinkles that they've been running in cover zero uh
- 1:50:35Speaker 9: in in Minnesota, which, like this person, credited to Brian Flores,
- 1:50:39Speaker 9: which Brian Floras learned from from Bill Belichick like five
- 1:50:42Speaker 9: years ago. But that's like besides the point. Uh, they
- 1:50:44Speaker 9: do a lot of like zone coverage behind cover zero
- 1:50:47Speaker 9: instead of man, and it's just like driving, you know,
- 1:50:50Speaker 9: all like the hot routes and stuff like that are
- 1:50:52Speaker 9: now covered because you're running like slants and crossers thinking
- 1:50:56Speaker 9: that you're in man and then all of a sudden
- 1:50:58Speaker 9: it's gets zoned off. And uh, the Patriots do.
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: That all the time.
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: Were you were you as an X to snow guy sometimes?
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: Were you as just kind of impressed when they switched
- 1:51:08Speaker 5: from Patricia to Flores the difference in the aggressiveness and
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: the defense that that making that make an impression on you?
- 1:51:13Speaker 9: Yeah, Yeah, I don't know. I'm always like I like,
- 1:51:17Speaker 9: you know, this week against Buffalo, I think is a
- 1:51:19Speaker 9: perfect example, Like I would much rather just fight fire
- 1:51:22Speaker 9: with fire, like like they've been in Week seven, Like
- 1:51:24Speaker 9: they just go after him, Like what's the point of
- 1:51:27Speaker 9: trying to sit back and like eight man coverage and
- 1:51:29Speaker 9: just pray that he throws an interception at some point?
- 1:51:31Speaker 9: Like that's just wishful thinking. And I think with the
- 1:51:34Speaker 9: Patricia defense that was a lot of it was like,
- 1:51:36Speaker 9: all right, we're gonna make you grind out drives. We're
- 1:51:38Speaker 9: gonna make you go, you know, twelve plays and eventually
- 1:51:41Speaker 9: you're gonna make a mistake. Not we're gonna force a mistake,
- 1:51:44Speaker 9: but just we're gonna get you, you know, stopped in
- 1:51:46Speaker 9: the red zone, or we're gonna, you know, get a turnover,
- 1:51:49Speaker 9: you're gonna get a penalty that's gonna put you behind
- 1:51:51Speaker 9: the sticks, and then you're not gonna get another first
- 1:51:53Speaker 9: down like things like that. And that's how I always
- 1:51:55Speaker 9: felt the Patriots at played Josh Allen for a while
- 1:51:58Speaker 9: was just sit back and yeah, and he's too good
- 1:52:03Speaker 9: for that now. And and last time around, they they
- 1:52:06Speaker 9: blitzed them like over forty percent of the time, and
- 1:52:08Speaker 9: they really came after him, and he made some plays,
- 1:52:11Speaker 9: but so did you and and it was a you know,
- 1:52:12Speaker 9: that's why he won the game.
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: Back in the day, you know, you could just rush
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: four all game or even three, and but you could
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: also you know, rough up the receivers. You could. You
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: could there's more contact allowed, you know, so you know,
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: you could beat the Colts that way. But now you
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: can't get away with that. You're gonna get defensive holding,
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: you know, or whatever illegal contact, and so you have
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: to take chances. You have to play that complimentary defense
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: where the pressure matches up with the coverage. You can't
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: just you know, let them march, because they're going to.
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: In today's NFL, they're gonna and you're gonna just wear
- 1:52:48Speaker 2: out your defense.
- 1:52:49Speaker 9: Yeah. I think today today more than ever, and I
- 1:52:52Speaker 9: think this is a big reason why there has been
- 1:52:54Speaker 9: a little bit of a defensive resurgence in the NFL.
- 1:52:57Speaker 9: The pressure schemes are getting more and more creative, true,
- 1:53:00Speaker 9: and then the pass rushes are getting better, and pass
- 1:53:03Speaker 9: rushers are getting better. Like there's just better defensive linemen
- 1:53:06Speaker 9: in the NFL now than offensive linemen in a lot
- 1:53:08Speaker 9: of places.
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: Just more speed.
- 1:53:10Speaker 9: Yeah, and they're doing a much better job of you know,
- 1:53:13Speaker 9: disguising rushes and getting unblocked guys and getting guys you know,
- 1:53:17Speaker 9: to the quarterback. And you see every single quarterback, no
- 1:53:20Speaker 9: matter who it is, if there's pressure in his face,
- 1:53:22Speaker 9: he's not gonna be anywhere near as good. That's just obvious.
- 1:53:25Speaker 9: And that's I think a big reason why scoring has
- 1:53:28Speaker 9: been down.
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: Yeah, Brandon Maine on Mayo, we were talking about him
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: earlier a couple of weeks ago, I believe Albert Breer
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: had a report about Girod Mayo and that there are
- 1:53:38Speaker 2: some in the building who are no longer see him
- 1:53:40Speaker 2: as the air apparent. I also believe there was a
- 1:53:42Speaker 2: second report around the same time, though I can't remember
- 1:53:45Speaker 2: from who, saying that Mayo had rubbed people the wrong
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: way since its extension in noting an arrogance that was
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: off putting. Can you speak to these reports and what
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: you may be hearing about Mayo? Yeah, I heard the report,
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: but like, I only see what everyone else sees, like
- 1:54:02Speaker 2: pre game and all that, and he's out there with
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: everyone else and sitting next to Steve like he always has,
- 1:54:07Speaker 2: and I don't notice anything different.
- 1:54:09Speaker 9: But I heard that report, you know, seems like that
- 1:54:14Speaker 9: Bard originally and then Brier kind of confirmed it. And
- 1:54:18Speaker 9: now there's another. Andrew Callahan also just tweeted like today
- 1:54:24Speaker 9: that he's also hearing that Bill has been talking about
- 1:54:28Speaker 9: his job status with.
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: But this You mentioned that uncertainty of the Yeah, that
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: was I.
- 1:54:34Speaker 9: Think he already had it, and now Callahan confirmed, so I.
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: Don't Again, we don't know if that's true, but let's
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: just say it is. So you're an assistant coach and
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: your head coach is like, I'm not sure what's going
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: to happen now, You're worried about yourself.
- 1:54:48Speaker 9: Right Ross Douglas, Yeah, Like, what am I going to do?
- 1:54:51Speaker 2: Why is he telling me this?
- 1:54:53Speaker 7: You know?
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: Do I need to start making some phone calls?
- 1:54:57Speaker 4: You what if it's your dad about Mayo? Rubbing people
- 1:55:01Speaker 4: the wrong way?
- 1:55:02Speaker 6: Is just assistance on the staff that are facing a
- 1:55:06Speaker 6: lot of uncertainty right now about their jobs, what they're
- 1:55:08Speaker 6: going to do, if they're going to have to move,
- 1:55:10Speaker 6: And that's when stuff leaks.
- 1:55:11Speaker 2: That's when people talk.
- 1:55:12Speaker 6: People are uncomfortable right now, they're trying to chew themselves
- 1:55:15Speaker 6: out of this, and it's probably most.
- 1:55:17Speaker 5: Reports feel motivated. To me, I don't know by what,
- 1:55:19Speaker 5: but it just feels like a message that somebody wants
- 1:55:22Speaker 5: to get out there, whether it's job yeah.
- 1:55:25Speaker 9: Just talking to the times that we get to talk
- 1:55:27Speaker 9: to Drod Mayo, I feel like there's just a confidence
- 1:55:32Speaker 9: about him, not an arrogance, but a confidence about him
- 1:55:34Speaker 9: that it's not here, it'll be someplace else. And if
- 1:55:38Speaker 9: that maybe that rubs some people the wrong way, that
- 1:55:40Speaker 9: he's not you know, down in the dumps that that
- 1:55:42Speaker 9: the team is where it is and everything like that.
- 1:55:45Speaker 9: But you know, some people, the idea of you know,
- 1:55:48Speaker 9: having to go get another job and moving cities and
- 1:55:50Speaker 9: moving your family can be a very overwhelming thing. Maybe
- 1:55:53Speaker 9: to somebody like Girod Mayo. It just isn't like if so,
- 1:55:56Speaker 9: if he has to go coach, you know, in Carolina
- 1:55:59Speaker 9: next year instead of here, then okay, well pack up
- 1:56:02Speaker 9: and we'll move to Carolina.
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: If it's not here, wherever he goes, it'd be good
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: for him to have clear responsibility, you know what I mean.
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: Like right now, for all we know, he's the linebacker's coach,
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: and we hear he's a communicator, right, but like he's
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: got to, you know, if he goes somewhere else and
- 1:56:20Speaker 2: it's short of a head coach, he's got to have
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: clear responsibility to build that resume.
- 1:56:24Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, I do wonder if that is in play,
- 1:56:28Speaker 9: you know, Eric b Enemy just did that.
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and I got out from under Andy Reich shadow.
- 1:56:32Speaker 9: Yeah, And I don't know if it's gonna be immediate
- 1:56:35Speaker 9: for him, but I'm sure that in the end he'll
- 1:56:37Speaker 9: probably eventually get a head coaching job out of it,
- 1:56:39Speaker 9: unless he completely flops with Washington. But I think most
- 1:56:42Speaker 9: people are blaming Sam Howell.
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: For that situation. Jack and and Aba rights in. I've
- 1:56:47Speaker 2: been a Michigan football fan for fifty five years. Tom
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: Brady's coach at Michigan who shall not be mentioned, did
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: mishandle Brady. Nevertheless, we Michigan fans knew Brady was better
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: than a six round pick. All you had to do
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: was watch Brady's performance in Michigan's victory over Alabama in
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: the Orange Bowl to see that Brady was a good
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: pro prospect. Yeah.
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: Clutch, that's the big one, right, And that's what I mean.
- 1:57:09Speaker 5: We threw, we gave some bills some flowers. Today, I
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: think it upsets some people because they're like tweeting at
- 1:57:14Speaker 5: Paul like, oh my god, like you should listen to it,
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: Like Paul's not gonna listen. But but Brady, to me,
- 1:57:20Speaker 5: what made him so remarkable was just his ability in
- 1:57:22Speaker 5: the clutch to make those plays.
- 1:57:23Speaker 9: It's just sad. It's so sad that we can't like
- 1:57:26Speaker 9: say that Bill Belichick's a great coach without people getting
- 1:57:29Speaker 9: mad about it, like no, and it's not that's why
- 1:57:32Speaker 9: this whole thing, like bother like bugs me the Brady
- 1:57:34Speaker 9: versus Belichick thing because it's like, hey, it just who
- 1:57:37Speaker 9: cares at this point, Like it just doesn't make a
- 1:57:40Speaker 9: difference anymore. But b it's just like you can both
- 1:57:43Speaker 9: things can be true. One is a good quarterback, one's
- 1:57:46Speaker 9: a good coach. Like you don't have to always be
- 1:57:48Speaker 9: at odds about it.
- 1:57:48Speaker 4: It's a simpleton argument.
- 1:57:50Speaker 5: And I mean, and just to put my old fan
- 1:57:53Speaker 5: hat back on after five years, it's like, nothing's gonna
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: change the pure joy of watching those teams win six
- 1:57:59Speaker 5: Super And you can give whoever you want the credit,
- 1:58:02Speaker 5: but for me as a fan, getting to experience those
- 1:58:04Speaker 5: seasons and the ups and the downs and seeing them
- 1:58:06Speaker 5: pull those victories out in always the dramatic fashion that
- 1:58:09Speaker 5: they did, or even having your heart broken like that,
- 1:58:12Speaker 5: to me, the experience of that is what really matters most.
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: Like like people can believe whatever they want, they.
- 1:58:17Speaker 5: Can think the tooth Fairy was responsible for the Patriots
- 1:58:19Speaker 5: Super Bowl's great, but it's never gonna change what my
- 1:58:22Speaker 5: experience was as a fan.
- 1:58:24Speaker 9: W I I just had some TV on in the
- 1:58:27Speaker 9: background and it was like one of the like NFL films,
- 1:58:31Speaker 9: super Bowl forty nine documentaries or whatever. And Jess walks
- 1:58:37Speaker 9: in and she's like, what are you watching? And I
- 1:58:38Speaker 9: was like super Bowl forty nine and she was like
- 1:58:41Speaker 9: why And I was like why not?
- 1:58:43Speaker 5: But when those kids are on like and you flip
- 1:58:45Speaker 5: them on, like I instantly go back to like where
- 1:58:47Speaker 5: I was watching it, and like I can even like
- 1:58:50Speaker 5: and there's this might sound stupid, but like that forty nine,
- 1:58:53Speaker 5: Like the color of the grass to me was like
- 1:58:55Speaker 5: this neon green. It's it's often like that there in Arizona.
- 1:58:57Speaker 5: But yeah, like there's just something so distinct about that
- 1:59:00Speaker 5: game that I just remember. I remember going to get
- 1:59:02Speaker 5: food before the game. I remember who came over, you know,
- 1:59:05Speaker 5: all those things, and that to me as a fan,
- 1:59:07Speaker 5: that's what That's what I remember.
- 1:59:08Speaker 2: I don't know Claire in the UK rights and who
- 1:59:10Speaker 2: everyone related holidays to everyone. Considering all the different variables,
- 1:59:18Speaker 2: the draft position, Belotick's job, and that it's the Bills,
- 1:59:21Speaker 2: are you rooting for a win on Sunday? I can't
- 1:59:24Speaker 2: stand the Bills, but I know the fan base is
- 1:59:26Speaker 2: divided on what the results should be. What say you,
- 1:59:29Speaker 2: I say, screw the draft, crap, shoot, trash the Bills.
- 1:59:33Speaker 2: I'm rooting for a win. What the hell? Sure? Well,
- 1:59:37Speaker 2: I mean, you know what it would mean.
- 1:59:38Speaker 5: I just think again, it would just be so weird
- 1:59:41Speaker 5: to think that this is the Patriots scene that were
- 1:59:42Speaker 5: to sweep the Bills, to win in Pittsburgh, to win
- 1:59:45Speaker 5: in Denver, of all places like it, just you never,
- 1:59:48Speaker 5: you never would have stripped.
- 1:59:49Speaker 2: And then close out the season by keeping the win
- 1:59:51Speaker 2: streak against the Jets alive.
- 1:59:53Speaker 9: I would like to beat the Bills simply to watch
- 1:59:55Speaker 9: Bills of Mafia. Yeah, yeah, oh god, they would lose
- 2:00:00Speaker 9: their mind. That all right, that's gonna be it for
- 2:00:02Speaker 9: this show. We'll be back tomorrow, Big Day picks. Maybe
- 2:00:05Speaker 9: Paul will be back.
- 2:00:06Speaker 2: I don't know. You might find a camera somewhere. But
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: John Rook in the playbook is up next, right? Is
- 2:00:12Speaker 2: that correct? All right? So we'll talk, all right, guest.
