- 0:00Speaker 1: Now joining me on the line right now, the Financial
- 0:03Speaker 1: Information Services Officer with Services Australia, Justin Bott. Good morning
- 0:08Speaker 1: to you, Justin, Good morning Katie.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Thank you for having me back.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks for joining us now, Justin. Obviously plenty of
- 0:14Speaker 1: talk all around the nation. I think you'd say about
- 0:17Speaker 1: the COVID nineteen digital certificates which are going to be
- 0:21Speaker 1: used within Australia. Where are we ash with these at
- 0:24Speaker 1: this point?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Okay, So for those people who are Internet capable, have
- 0:30Speaker 2: their smartphones, the best thing to do to download your
- 0:33Speaker 2: COVID nineteen digital certificate, which is approved that you've had
- 0:37Speaker 2: both of your vaccines, is to create that my gov account.
- 0:41Speaker 2: And the way that you created mi gov account is
- 0:43Speaker 2: to go to the my gov website, which is my
- 0:46Speaker 2: dot gov dot Auormy dot gov dot Au. You follow
- 0:52Speaker 2: the prompts create yourself a MyGov account. Once you've done that,
- 0:56Speaker 2: you need to sign into the my gov account and
- 0:59Speaker 2: you need to link Medicare to your my go account.
- 1:02Speaker 2: So you're going to have some choices there. You'll see
- 1:04Speaker 2: the Strength Taxation Office, you'll see centling. We want you
- 1:08Speaker 2: to select on Medicare and once you've link Medicare to
- 1:11Speaker 2: your my Go account. You've then got everything you need
- 1:15Speaker 2: right there to be able to get your COVID nineteen
- 1:17Speaker 2: digital certificate, to print it off if you need to
- 1:20Speaker 2: print it off, to download it onto your phone so
- 1:24Speaker 2: that it's actually sitting in your Google wallet, you sorry,
- 1:27Speaker 2: your Apple wallet or Google pay, so you've got that
- 1:30Speaker 2: evidence anywhere that you go whenever you need to, in
- 1:33Speaker 2: your pocket.
- 1:34Speaker 1: So basically that's able. That's already happening right now for
- 1:38Speaker 1: anybody out there listening who does need to be able
- 1:41Speaker 1: to show that vaccine passport, whether it's in their workplace
- 1:43Speaker 1: or to travel or to do anything. Really, it is there.
- 1:48Speaker 1: It's ready to go if you've got a MiG of account.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's right now. Over twelve point three million
- 1:55Speaker 2: people have actually done it. Well, yeah, it's we've had
- 1:59Speaker 2: in the sty Over fifteen million people are fully vaccimated.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Over twelve point three million people have already accessed their
- 2:05Speaker 2: COVID nineteen digital certificate, so it is a very successful process.
- 2:10Speaker 2: The fun story, Katie is I had to go with
- 2:13Speaker 2: my son to get our haircut. Yep, he's fifteen. He
- 2:17Speaker 2: has to have his own digital certificate. We were going
- 2:21Speaker 2: and I've done mine, but we've forgotten all about his.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And it was a ten minute drove him the car
- 2:25Speaker 2: to get to the headdressers, and in that ten minutes
- 2:28Speaker 2: on his phone he was able to create himself with
- 2:31Speaker 2: my GOV account, He was able to link it to
- 2:33Speaker 2: his Medicare record, and he was able to download his
- 2:35Speaker 2: COVID nineteen digital certificate onto his phone, so that by
- 2:39Speaker 2: the time we arrived at their headdresses, he had the
- 2:41Speaker 2: evidence in his pocket ready to go.
- 2:43Speaker 1: So nice and easy.
- 2:46Speaker 2: The people has worked really really well.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah, nice and easy. Hey, with with that twelve point
- 2:50Speaker 1: three million people who've already downloaded it or already done that,
- 2:54Speaker 1: created the accountant and been able to access their passport.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Is there any do you how many of those are
- 3:01Speaker 1: from the Northern Territory.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I don't have the figures of the Northern Territory with
- 3:06Speaker 2: you right now, unfortunately, sorry about that one.
- 3:08Speaker 1: It's okay, that's fine.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Well, yeah, but what we're saying is because the other
- 3:12Speaker 2: thing to remember is that not everybody is digitally capable,
- 3:16Speaker 2: not everybody has a smartphone, not everybody is able to
- 3:19Speaker 2: download it. So it's really important to also let Northern
- 3:22Speaker 2: territorians know that there is a non digital version. You
- 3:26Speaker 2: can actually get a paper copy of this as well
- 3:28Speaker 2: if you need to, So if you're not the sort
- 3:31Speaker 2: of person that has a phone in their pocket or
- 3:32Speaker 2: has a computer at home where they can just print
- 3:34Speaker 2: it off from their printer at home. One of the
- 3:36Speaker 2: things that you can do is once you've had both
- 3:39Speaker 2: of your shots so you're fully vaccinated, is you can
- 3:43Speaker 2: give the Australian Immunization Register a call. So the Australian
- 3:48Speaker 2: Immunization Register is the organization that's under Services Australia and
- 3:52Speaker 2: MAY for years and years have been responsible for maintaining
- 3:56Speaker 2: the evidence that people have had and a lot of
- 4:01Speaker 2: parents would know them because they needed them when their
- 4:04Speaker 2: kids were going to school. They needed to get evidence.
- 4:05Speaker 2: They went to be training unionization edity to do that.
- 4:09Speaker 2: But they're also the ones that have the evidence that
- 4:11Speaker 2: you've had your COVID vaccine. So give them a ring
- 4:14Speaker 2: on one eight hundred six five three eight zero nine.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Their number again is one eight hundred six three eight
- 4:23Speaker 2: zero nine, and they can post a copy of your
- 4:26Speaker 2: certificate out to you in the mail. But it is male.
- 4:30Speaker 2: So my second little while, so if you've got an
- 4:32Speaker 2: urgent need for it, and you don't have the ability
- 4:35Speaker 2: to go online to get it, then you can always
- 4:36Speaker 2: pop in to one of Service's Australia's centers, one of
- 4:41Speaker 2: our offices and we can print it off there for
- 4:42Speaker 2: you as well.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Now, justin obviously there's been lots of concern from some
- 4:46Speaker 1: people about any of their personal data or any of
- 4:49Speaker 1: their personal information potentially being shared with this vaccine passport.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And when they, you know, go into a business, what
- 4:57Speaker 1: exactly that business, like you'd said, you know, with the exis,
- 5:00Speaker 1: with your son obviously downloading it, whether then any of
- 5:03Speaker 1: that information actually had to be passed on to the
- 5:06Speaker 1: business aside from showing it. Are there concerns here when
- 5:10Speaker 1: it comes to that personal security in any way.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Look, part of the reason that we're encouraging people to
- 5:17Speaker 2: use the COVID nineteen Digital Certificate is because it only
- 5:20Speaker 2: gives information that you need that you have evidence for
- 5:25Speaker 2: the COVID vaccines, So it doesn't you have any more
- 5:27Speaker 2: information about anything else that you might have been doing.
- 5:29Speaker 2: So it's very focused on just providing evidence for that.
- 5:34Speaker 2: The other side of the story is that we are
- 5:36Speaker 2: presently working with the Northern Territory governments using the Territory
- 5:40Speaker 2: Checking App. So there's trials going on at the moment
- 5:43Speaker 2: so that the Territory Checking App will actually be linked
- 5:46Speaker 2: to your your COVID nineteen digital certificate from Services Australia,
- 5:50Speaker 2: so that one app has got all that information for
- 5:53Speaker 2: you as well in that one place. But let me
- 5:56Speaker 2: assure your listeners that yes, we take the security of
- 6:00Speaker 2: our information incredibly seriously. We are continually wanitoring to make
- 6:05Speaker 2: sure that nobody gets information that they shouldn't and that
- 6:09Speaker 2: the minimum that is required to make sure that you've
- 6:12Speaker 2: got the evidence and is available to use is there
- 6:14Speaker 2: but still able to prove to anybody that needs to
- 6:17Speaker 2: see it that you've had the vaccines and therefore you
- 6:20Speaker 2: can access their services or you know eventually when able
- 6:25Speaker 2: to travel to other states and other parts.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Of the So justin just tell us with that work
- 6:29Speaker 1: that is currently underway with the Northern Territory Government working
- 6:32Speaker 1: with the NT government right now, when it comes to
- 6:34Speaker 1: the Territory Checking App and being able to link that
- 6:37Speaker 1: or being able to utilize your vaccine passport, how far
- 6:43Speaker 1: along are we with that all sort of coming into
- 6:45Speaker 1: play and being quite seamless.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Well, that's going to be Unfortunately, up to the territory
- 6:52Speaker 2: governments will actually put that in place, So we'll have
- 6:56Speaker 2: to pass that question onto the territory governments, so when
- 6:58Speaker 2: they're ready for that to roll out, I can't believe
- 7:01Speaker 2: that it is presently working. A couple others like it's
- 7:04Speaker 2: working yourself. Well, A Victoria's already got that in play,
- 7:07Speaker 2: and other states and territories are also working with us
- 7:10Speaker 2: to make that ready for people to go through. Right,
- 7:13Speaker 2: But when it comes to that checking out, it's really
- 7:16Speaker 2: important to remember who's responsible for what in that case.
- 7:19Speaker 2: But our responsibility is to make sure that the evidence
- 7:22Speaker 2: of your vaccines is secure and it's there for them
- 7:26Speaker 2: if they're not to the Northern Territory government to work
- 7:28Speaker 2: out how they want that available to their residents, how
- 7:33Speaker 2: businesses are going to actually monitor and look after that
- 7:36Speaker 2: when you need to show it what it's going to
- 7:38Speaker 2: be used for. So that's all the responsibility of the
- 7:41Speaker 2: Northern Territory Government to put those sorts of things in play. Well,
- 7:44Speaker 2: justin good.
- 7:45Speaker 1: To speak to you this morning, and good to find
- 7:47Speaker 1: that you know that you're actually able to get that
- 7:49Speaker 1: vaccine passport right now. In fact, twelve point three million
- 7:53Speaker 1: Ausies have already done it, and the reality of it is,
- 7:56Speaker 1: you know, it sounds as though it's going to be
- 7:57Speaker 1: the way of the future for us all around Australia,
- 8:00Speaker 1: and even when you're traveling overseas, you're really going to
- 8:03Speaker 1: need to be showing that vaccine certificate.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and on that and we've just been trying to
- 8:09Speaker 2: make sure that we can make that as easy a
- 8:11Speaker 2: process for as many people as possible, but also remembering
- 8:14Speaker 2: that if you aren't digitally capable, that there is a
- 8:17Speaker 2: paper version that Savili's can print it off and are
- 8:20Speaker 2: therefore and so in whatever circumstance, there is a way
- 8:23Speaker 2: to prove that you've had your vaccine.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Well. And one of our listeners, Marcia, has just called
- 8:28Speaker 1: in and she said she doesn't have a smartphone, but
- 8:30Speaker 1: she went into the place where she'd had her vaccine
- 8:33Speaker 1: and they very easily printed out that proof of vaccine
- 8:36Speaker 1: for her as well.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Yeah, so that is another option, but unfortunately not all
- 8:41Speaker 2: of them are able to do that. So one of
- 8:43Speaker 2: the things that you can do is when you do
- 8:45Speaker 2: get your vaccine, you can talk to the provider and
- 8:47Speaker 2: ask and if they are able to print it off
- 8:49Speaker 2: for you. Some of them can some of them can't.
- 8:51Speaker 2: If they can't, then yeat bang you've got it all
- 8:53Speaker 2: with you. As soon as you walk out, you've got
- 8:55Speaker 2: your evidence in your pocket and ready to go. But
- 8:57Speaker 2: otherwise give that one eight hundred six five three as
- 9:01Speaker 2: there on nine fine number four and we can mail
- 9:02Speaker 2: it out to you.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Good stuff. Well, I always appreciate your time justin thanks
- 9:07Speaker 1: so much for having a chat with us.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Thanks Katie, thanks so much for having me.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Thank you
