- 0:00[UNKNOWN]: Pokemon's 30th anniversary was supposed to be one of the biggest celebrations in the franchise's history.
- 0:05[UNKNOWN]: But because we won't be playing Pokemon Wins and Waves for at least another year, a lot of fans are feeling let down.
- 0:11[UNKNOWN]: But here's the truth.
- 0:12[UNKNOWN]: Over the last 12 months, we've actually received a huge variety of Pokemon releases.
- 0:17[UNKNOWN]: I'm talking classic ports, a dedicated battle simulator, new Pokemon Legends games.
- 0:22[UNKNOWN]: In 2026, there really is a Pokemon game for every type of fan.
- 0:26[UNKNOWN]: So today on the podcast, we're going to get to the bottom of this.
- 0:29[UNKNOWN]: We're putting every 30th anniversary Pokemon release head to head to figure out which one is the best and whether Pokemon's 30th anniversary is actually better than we're giving it credit for.
- 0:39[UNKNOWN]: As always, this is just the start of the conversation.
- 0:42[UNKNOWN]: subscribe if you're new.
- 0:43[UNKNOWN]: Let us know what you think in the comments below and let's get into this.
- 0:47[UNKNOWN]: Welcome back to Hidden Power.
- 0:48[UNKNOWN]: This is a Pokemon podcast.
- 0:50[UNKNOWN]: My name is Dusty Go Goat and today I'm joined by Hoops and Hip Hop in Jake from the Critical Arrow podcast.
- 0:55[UNKNOWN]: Jake, thanks for being on the show today.
- 0:59[UNKNOWN]: What's on your mind, man?
- 1:01[UNKNOWN]: How's your 30th year anniversary been?
- 1:02[UNKNOWN]: What have you been playing?
- 1:03[UNKNOWN]: Where's your minds at?
- 1:05[UNKNOWN]: Today is the first day of of autumn.
- 1:10[UNKNOWN]: Welcome back.
- 1:10[UNKNOWN]: Welcome back to the show, man.
- 1:11[UNKNOWN]: Thank you so much for having me.
- 1:13[UNKNOWN]: I have been loving this Pokemon 30th anniversary.
- 1:16[UNKNOWN]: I've been soaking it up.
- 1:17[UNKNOWN]: I've been slurping up some of my favorite games.
- 1:20[UNKNOWN]: Of course, earlier this year, I played.
- 1:21[UNKNOWN]: But the first time ever Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness had the time in my freaking life.
- 1:27[UNKNOWN]: And that, of course, was something that was only really available to me.
- 1:30[UNKNOWN]: Thanks to the Nintendo Switch 2 classics, GameCube classics.
- 1:34[UNKNOWN]: So I got to try that out.
- 1:35[UNKNOWN]: I've got a lot to say about that.
- 1:36[UNKNOWN]: But I've also been going back.
- 1:38[UNKNOWN]: play in some things that I already know I enjoy you know I'm a bit of a mystery dungeon head a game back in 2026 people still have not gotten fully on board with and which is crazy to me because the the roguelite genre more poppin than ever people are people are always whining on on x the everything af about how there aren't Pokemon games to play
- 2:01[UNKNOWN]: And it's like this is right there.
- 2:02[UNKNOWN]: This is right there on your on your Game Boy Advance classics app right now.
- 2:06[UNKNOWN]: You could be playing red rescue team have at the time with your freaking life and we're of course in the in the year in which these emulator handhelds are popping off more than ever.
- 2:15[UNKNOWN]: I've got one right here a little A Y and Thor for you.
- 2:18[UNKNOWN]: Oh, we we pop this puppy open.
- 2:21[UNKNOWN]: What do we what do we see?
- 2:22[UNKNOWN]: What do we see then?
- 2:23[UNKNOWN]: Oh, my god, everything.
- 2:24[UNKNOWN]: Everything you could possibly want.
- 2:25[UNKNOWN]: I could play a little a little Explorers of sky right now.
- 2:29[UNKNOWN]: No one could stop me.
- 2:30[UNKNOWN]: Nintendo couldn't stop me.
- 2:31[UNKNOWN]: Not a few days they wanted to and they want to.
- 2:33[UNKNOWN]: So listen, I've been having
- 2:35[UNKNOWN]: I didn't have a great time excited to talk about Pokemon, excited to see what the temperature is out.
- 2:39[UNKNOWN]: You know, I've been out of the Pokemon world for a little bit.
- 2:41[UNKNOWN]: Does it?
- 2:42[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:42[UNKNOWN]: We haven't, I haven't been on the channel.
- 2:44[UNKNOWN]: I don't know what the temperature is.
- 2:46[UNKNOWN]: I don't know what people are thinking, what the people are saying.
- 2:48[UNKNOWN]: So I'm excited to, you know, go to the town square of the Hidden Power Podcast and see what's going on.
- 2:54[UNKNOWN]: Okay, that's great.
- 2:54[UNKNOWN]: I think we should maybe switch on over now to this game bracket.
- 2:58[UNKNOWN]: Okay, 30th anniversary everyone says the overall sentiment is it this year Did not feel like a celebration.
- 3:04[UNKNOWN]: I pulled up all of the games that have been released in the last 12 months
- 3:09[UNKNOWN]: And it's kind of insane to me that anyone could think that this year has not been full of I don't know normally in a Pokemon year in a year we'll get one Pokemon game maybe one mobile game right in this year We've got one two three four five six
- 3:26[UNKNOWN]: brand new Pokemon games.
- 3:27[UNKNOWN]: We got Legends EA.
- 3:29[UNKNOWN]: We also got the DLC for Legends EA, tons of new content in that, Pogopia drops as well this year.
- 3:37[UNKNOWN]: On NSO, we got a brand new port of Pokemon XD Guild Darkness, which are like really expensive games and difficult to get.
- 3:44[UNKNOWN]: So like that's cool that that was made to the public.
- 3:46[UNKNOWN]: Fire in the free and also got a completely new port on Switch.
- 3:54[UNKNOWN]: And I think what's interesting here is that there's a really nice blend of video games that are pushing the series forward while also paying homage to, you know, some of some of some of the classic roots.
- 4:06[UNKNOWN]: And I think this is just maybe not.
- 4:07[UNKNOWN]: I feel like it's been frustrating for me to kind of watch this batch of games, just kind of be dismissed for reasons that are, I don't know, just seem very surface level.
- 4:18[UNKNOWN]: It's we didn't get the big generation 10 brand new.
- 4:22[UNKNOWN]: You know game therefore this this whole entire year is a wash, and I feel like people aren't Appreciating the the things that we do have So that's kind of the setup that's that's that's that's what I'm interested in talking about today With this bracket, but please guys
- 4:38[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I would love to hear what you think about this before we get into this.
- 4:41[UNKNOWN]: So I do think it's important to mention before someone comments about it that legends EA and the DLC They've come out within the last year, but they didn't technically come out in 2026.
- 4:52[UNKNOWN]: Sure.
- 4:52[UNKNOWN]: So they're like they're they're a bit tangental, but I think it's still fine to
- 4:57[UNKNOWN]: have money because I think if they came out at the end of 2025 I mean we got a like I don't know 60 days go by and now it's 2026 this is I don't know I feel like I just saw that and I was like I was like someone's gonna make a comment about that.
- 5:10[UNKNOWN]: Sure.
- 5:11[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but I totally agree with everything that you're saying I think the only value criticism that you could give the 30th anniversary in terms of a celebration is that there's not that
- 5:23[UNKNOWN]: wins and waves like big new entry, but at the same time it's like
- 5:29[UNKNOWN]: It's hard to really fault it not being here too, because it's coming out like next year, specifically so that they can kind of like polish it up and just kind of make sure it's right when it does come out, which is something that people have been wanting Pokemon games to do for years, which is like take more time.
- 5:51[UNKNOWN]: So what better way to celebrate the anniversary of a franchise than to announce like, hey, we're coming out with this game,
- 6:00[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's like that's like a commitment to the future of the series.
- 6:03[UNKNOWN]: Well, I need to push back on this a little bit.
- 6:06[UNKNOWN]: I think the idea that this game is coming out next year being like, oh, it's because they want to take time.
- 6:12[UNKNOWN]: That's kind of fanfiction to me.
- 6:14[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 6:14[UNKNOWN]: That's I'm not sure if that's the case.
- 6:16[UNKNOWN]: I mean, it is coming out next year.
- 6:21[UNKNOWN]: sense making of why it's coming out next year.
- 6:24[UNKNOWN]: To me, it's like we could say a million different things, right?
- 6:27[UNKNOWN]: Like I could tell you that it's not coming out next year because it's a switch to exclusive and they want another year to sell another holiday season specifically to sell Nintendo Switch to consoles so that the install base when the game does come out isn't embarrassingly small because could you imagine?
- 6:42[UNKNOWN]: Could you imagine?
- 6:43[UNKNOWN]: coming out like the in the first year the first there the second year of the switch to being on the market and just simply because there are not that many switch to available the fall off Yeah from Pokemon Garland and violet because let's remember when Pokemon's go and violet come out everybody and their mother has an Nintendo switch one
- 7:00[UNKNOWN]: which of course contributes to those insane sales numbers and then coming on Nintendo Switch to install base much much much much more mega could you imagine going back to a to a board going back to the company and having to explain yourself what you're a scourron of the why you even have the game why you put this game on Nintendo Switch 2 you should have put it on Nintendo Switch 1 yeah and it's like okay so we don't want to be doing that
- 7:22[UNKNOWN]: So it's like, that kind of, that kind of sense making to me is that we could, we could go any, any which way about it.
- 7:27[UNKNOWN]: Um, is it, is it like, maybe effect is that effect?
- 7:32[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, the, I think the effect of it coming out next year is probably a good thing.
- 7:36[UNKNOWN]: That's what I've been advocating for.
- 7:38[UNKNOWN]: I don't know why it's coming out next year.
- 7:40[UNKNOWN]: I have no idea.
- 7:41[UNKNOWN]: Um, but I'm glad it's getting pushed.
- 7:44[UNKNOWN]: I think it's also a bit of a, it's a bit of a fallacy kind of like you're saying Jake to also think at the same time that it's for one particular reason.
- 7:52[UNKNOWN]: I think I think I think they're thinking they're going a little 40 chess on us where they're like, okay, we want to accomplish this.
- 7:59[UNKNOWN]: We want to accomplish this.
- 8:01[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, best way to do that is to delay the game.
- 8:03[UNKNOWN]: So I think all that to say that it's not like, yes, we all expected it to be here.
- 8:11[UNKNOWN]: So it's disappointing in that sense, but it's not disappointing in terms of like,
- 8:15[UNKNOWN]: What it could mean down the road because I mean like the game itself the one trailer we have looks pretty good and then if we kind of contextualize and say, oh, okay, they're taking another year and that gives them another year to just like work on the game.
- 8:29[UNKNOWN]: So the next time we see it like it could look even better like not just it just it just speaks to a lot of optimism.
- 8:38[UNKNOWN]: I would say like for the future of hopefully great.
- 8:41[UNKNOWN]: And then and then think about this too like if we assume that like let's just imagine a world where this game did come out this year We would have this game and all the trailers that would be coming out with it, and then also Pocopia Fire Red Leaf Green.
- 8:56[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, Pokemon champions.
- 8:58[UNKNOWN]: XD Gail of Darkness or those games wouldn't or some of those games wouldn't even come out It's possible.
- 9:03[UNKNOWN]: Yes, so you could consider you could consider either a bit of a trade-off or like in my opinion
- 9:09[UNKNOWN]: there's no world, no anniversary that would warrant all of that coming out in one year.
- 9:14[UNKNOWN]: I think that would just be too much, I don't know.
- 9:16[UNKNOWN]: Well, I mean, I'll offer this as well.
- 9:18[UNKNOWN]: Um, early next year, we're going to be seeing the release of the Legend of Zelda movie.
- 9:22[UNKNOWN]: It is very important to Nintendo right now, do kind of be positioning the Zelda brand in a very particular way.
- 9:29[UNKNOWN]: So I think even a contributing factor to Pokemon not coming out this fall is that there is one particular Nintendo published game that they want to have the most
- 9:39[UNKNOWN]: It is the holiday game.
- 9:40[UNKNOWN]: It is getting a special edition bundle all of these things for a reason.
- 9:44[UNKNOWN]: It is brand management right before this movie comes out.
- 9:47[UNKNOWN]: So it's like, so it doesn't, it's this kind of thing.
- 9:50[UNKNOWN]: That's totally true.
- 9:51[UNKNOWN]: And we're always talking about this.
- 9:52[UNKNOWN]: We're always talking about that.
- 9:53[UNKNOWN]: What's the holiday game going to be?
- 9:54[UNKNOWN]: What's the holiday game?
- 9:55[UNKNOWN]: And Nintendo publishes these games.
- 9:56[UNKNOWN]: So Nintendo plays a role in when these Pokemon games come out.
- 9:59[UNKNOWN]: So who's the point that I really like those?
- 10:02[UNKNOWN]: It's this optimistic point.
- 10:04[UNKNOWN]: Because I think you're right.
- 10:05[UNKNOWN]: I think something that's maybe overlooked about that Pokemon Wins and Waves trailer is that if you go back and you look at the reveal trailer for Sword and Shield.
- 10:12[UNKNOWN]: Do you remember this?
- 10:14[UNKNOWN]: It was like the first trailer that they show.
- 10:16[UNKNOWN]: It was just like some CGI nonsense of the starters popping up, being like, oh, I'm the monkey.
- 10:22[UNKNOWN]: I'm the, you know, and it's like, all right.
- 10:24[UNKNOWN]: And it wasn't, and the reason why I bring this up is because when you look at the Pokemon Wins and Waves trailer, you know what I see?
- 10:30[UNKNOWN]: I see a video game.
- 10:31[UNKNOWN]: I see a real video game that I play and something that we know about Pokemon games from years of seeing these trailers is that the game never looks worse than the first time you see it.
- 10:42[UNKNOWN]: It always looks better because these trailers are made at different stages of development.
- 10:47[UNKNOWN]: So if we saw this trailer in February, that means that the trailer was probably cut in December.
- 10:53[UNKNOWN]: maybe.
- 10:54[UNKNOWN]: And then, given out to all of the different regions for localization or whatever it is that they do.
- 10:58[UNKNOWN]: So it's like this trailer, the footage that we're seeing that looks like a real video game that you can play.
- 11:03[UNKNOWN]: All ready is so all.
- 11:06[UNKNOWN]: So by the time this game comes out in the fall of next year, we will have done who knows, maybe a year of just polish the last stage of video game development polish.
- 11:16[UNKNOWN]: And which is I think
- 11:18[UNKNOWN]: You know, critically, the thing that I think people really were having a lot of friction with when it came to Scarlet and Violet is the lack of polish in that game, which is a direct result of the development environment that they had to deal with because of COVID and all that stuff.
- 11:33[UNKNOWN]: So I'm so extremely positive about wins and waves because if you watch this trailer, I think the trailer looks great and this is the worst the game is ever going to look.
- 11:42[UNKNOWN]: So, it's, it's, I, the sky is the limit.
- 11:45[UNKNOWN]: That's good.
- 11:46[UNKNOWN]: That's good.
- 11:46[UNKNOWN]: And again, critically, it looks like a video game.
- 11:49[UNKNOWN]: This is not to fake trailer to get me excited about the idea of this.
- 11:53[UNKNOWN]: It's like, if you see these environments, and you go, oh, yeah.
- 11:55[UNKNOWN]: That's not a stretch for me to imagine, like, running around in these play in this game.
- 11:59[UNKNOWN]: So, no, I'm, I'm very excited for wins and wins.
- 12:01[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 12:02[UNKNOWN]: And, um, um, to add, to add onto that, the other cool thing about this trailer is that,
- 12:09[UNKNOWN]: Again, they showed it as an actual game, so they showed us the character in the world running around.
- 12:14[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, Pokemon are in the environment.
- 12:16[UNKNOWN]: They showed us the starters.
- 12:17[UNKNOWN]: Like they showed us a lot of stuff that typically when they reveal a Pokemon game, they don't usually show.
- 12:24[UNKNOWN]: Like if you think back to Sword and Shield for instance, they did that, they did the CGI trailer that wasn't gameplay footage.
- 12:30[UNKNOWN]: And then parts of the game they did show us.
- 12:32[UNKNOWN]: It was basically just like a camera kind of like panning around the environments.
- 12:39[UNKNOWN]: to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to
- 13:01[UNKNOWN]: For me, at least when I look at this game, I see kind of a, it's like what Scarlet and Violet wishes it could achieve.
- 13:08[UNKNOWN]: And within within that framework, I feel like there's so much to immediately understand and chew on with this game, because like even in these screenshots, you're going through them.
- 13:17[UNKNOWN]: And I can tell you about like key things that are clear to me when looking at this game that are going to be part of its design.
- 13:25[UNKNOWN]: Um, like I love that.
- 13:26[UNKNOWN]: So I'm a shot.
- 13:27[UNKNOWN]: That's so I'm a shot is one of my favorite things and go back here.
- 13:29[UNKNOWN]: We go something that I something I really like what the shot is that you can see that the slugma themselves are light sources right.
- 13:37[UNKNOWN]: So they have dynamic lighting that is a part of that slugma.
- 13:40[UNKNOWN]: So it gives me the idea of like going into a dark cave, and it is actually dark.
- 13:45[UNKNOWN]: But if I bring, if I bring a little Pokemon with me, that's like Slugma, that has an active light source, all the sudden, that's like using Flash, but it's dynamic, and it's not an HM, and it's not just words in a menu.
- 13:56[UNKNOWN]: It's I'm a part of that environment.
- 13:58[UNKNOWN]: You see that all throughout this trailer in terms of the surfing and the diving, it's just there.
- 14:03[UNKNOWN]: It's just happening.
- 14:04[UNKNOWN]: It's just for the game.
- 14:05[UNKNOWN]: That's nice.
- 14:06[UNKNOWN]: And I'm going to learn about that that's like such a fun way to like learn about the Pokemon that you do have like how many instances You know, are you playing a game or maybe just when you're a kid and you think you have a Pokemon that can maybe do something like that Maybe has access to an HM and it just can't learn it or maybe you don't want to teach it that but like
- 14:25[UNKNOWN]: Now at any point, you could almost stumble upon certain Pokemon that are maybe competitively unviable, but because they serve a purpose outside of battle in the world, like maybe Chimeco is going to become like a ton of people's favorite Pokemon, right?
- 14:41[UNKNOWN]: Because it has maybe one specific task or or feature that I can do in the overworld.
- 14:44[UNKNOWN]: That's fun.
- 14:45[UNKNOWN]: something I really like about Pokemon Harkled and Soul Silvers that you have that for those following Pokemon.
- 14:49[UNKNOWN]: I've always said that it's like a reward because those are those sprites that you see walking around with you.
- 14:56[UNKNOWN]: If you choose to have a Pokemon on your team and have them in that first spot, you get to see that sprite that otherwise.
- 15:01[UNKNOWN]: isn't really in the game.
- 15:03[UNKNOWN]: Like you're not going to see that sprite anywhere else.
- 15:05[UNKNOWN]: So it is, so what that does is that I think it's another tendril of connection for you and the Pokemon.
- 15:11[UNKNOWN]: It is something that brings you closer to that thing because it's not something that you fight you see in battle when you're fighting against it.
- 15:19[UNKNOWN]: It's not something that you see other people have.
- 15:21[UNKNOWN]: That's something between you and the game.
- 15:24[UNKNOWN]: What Pokemon is behind you traveling around with you?
- 15:26[UNKNOWN]: What did you choose to have in that spot?
- 15:28[UNKNOWN]: And something that I really like about this this idea that I'm pitching about going into a dark cave and having the slug mo illuminated or whatever is that it's another point of connection now it's not just the Pokemon that you're battling with the Pokemon that you're doing these very utilitarian things with it's who's with me when I went into that cave Who was I surfing with who was I diving with who was illuminating that cave with me and it's like how often do you remember the Pokemon that you went into the menu and you hit the flash button on yeah
- 15:54[UNKNOWN]: You probably don't even like that Pokemon.
- 15:55[UNKNOWN]: No.
- 15:56[UNKNOWN]: You get it for your future and then you box it.
- 15:58[UNKNOWN]: But what is fun?
- 15:59[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 16:00[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and that's the thing and I think maybe you would.
- 16:02[UNKNOWN]: And I think your Charizard could just naturally do that, you know?
- 16:05[UNKNOWN]: Right.
- 16:06[UNKNOWN]: Right.
- 16:06[UNKNOWN]: Or, you know, what's an ugly Pokemon?
- 16:08[UNKNOWN]: Oh, don't even get me started on the phone.
- 16:10[UNKNOWN]: We're gonna be flying in this.
- 16:11[UNKNOWN]: Like, pick, pick, pick just like the, like, what's a Pokemon that you hate?
- 16:17[UNKNOWN]: The one that I hate.
- 16:18[UNKNOWN]: Lopiny.
- 16:19[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 16:19[UNKNOWN]: What if Lopiny had a secret skill?
- 16:22[UNKNOWN]: And it can help you solve the road.
- 16:25[UNKNOWN]: You know?
- 16:26[UNKNOWN]: I know Lopiny has a low to it.
- 16:28[UNKNOWN]: And I can't talk about it.
- 16:29[UNKNOWN]: I can't talk about it.
- 16:30[UNKNOWN]: All right, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't.
- 16:32[UNKNOWN]: So I, you know.
- 16:34[UNKNOWN]: So listen, wins and waves, maybe we'll come back in a year and we'll do this bracket again and wins and waves will be on top, hopefully.
- 16:40[UNKNOWN]: Let's start with this.
- 16:41[UNKNOWN]: Pokemon Legends, EA, and XD Gill of Darkness.
- 16:44[UNKNOWN]: This is our first pairing.
- 16:47[UNKNOWN]: I'd love to hear what your pitches are for either of these games and which one do you think should take the crown and move up to the next slot?
- 16:56[UNKNOWN]: Pokemon Legends EA and XD Gail of Darkness, and if you haven't played one of these games, we can also be honest about that.
- 17:03[UNKNOWN]: That's fine.
- 17:04[UNKNOWN]: I have not played XD Gail of Darkness this year.
- 17:06[UNKNOWN]: I have played the game, but I don't know who wants to start.
- 17:11[UNKNOWN]: Hoops, please.
- 17:12[UNKNOWN]: Okay, I'll do my best.
- 17:13[UNKNOWN]: I've played a chunk of XD, but I've also played Coliseum.
- 17:18[UNKNOWN]: So like, I'm kind of going to borrow from that a little bit.
- 17:22[UNKNOWN]: I won't use it.
- 17:23[UNKNOWN]: But these are interesting.
- 17:26[UNKNOWN]: This is an interesting pairing because I think both of these games are.
- 17:32[UNKNOWN]: they're good in their own way and they're also different.
- 17:35[UNKNOWN]: Like they're essentially like offshoes.
- 17:38[UNKNOWN]: They're both offshoes in their own ways of the main series games, because XD is obviously it's a spin-off, but it plays similar to main series, just like ZA does in its own way.
- 17:48[UNKNOWN]: So they're kind of doing similar things in different ways, which makes them an interesting matchup.
- 17:54[UNKNOWN]: Um, oh my gosh, this is difficult.
- 17:58[UNKNOWN]: If I could jump in here, I guess I also want to like remember or remind us that like, you know, the point of this is to kind of understand like, or to kind of play with the idea of like, you know, which of these games are are contributing to the 33th anniversary, which of these games like the most, right?
- 18:13[UNKNOWN]: Which of these games are really helping us feel that celebration and maybe are, and right, and maybe are under, under, or appreciated, maybe over.
- 18:21[UNKNOWN]: I mean, let me
- 18:22[UNKNOWN]: Let me tell you something about this, so the, so the anniversary, I think sometimes when we talk about the anniversary being good, the anniversary being bad, and a lot of people interpret this question as, do I have a sufficient number of new things that I can buy?
- 18:32[UNKNOWN]: And I think for me, the thing that I appreciate about an anniversary is not necessarily do I get the next big mainline video game that I can buy for $70.
- 18:43[UNKNOWN]: For me, it's what's the point of the anniversary, and I think it's two things, one to look forward and two to look back.
- 18:48[UNKNOWN]: So I think you want to do both of those things.
- 18:50[UNKNOWN]: And I think that in this 30th anniversary am I looking forward?
- 18:53[UNKNOWN]: I would say yes, Pokemon Legends VA because of its combat system because of kind of the things that that game is interested in focusing on, I think that it that is a bid for connection with the Pokemon player to imagine a different future.
- 19:06[UNKNOWN]: But they had previously considered and I think a lot of Pokemon fans have been doing just that in terms of looking back, you get the release of fire and leaf green, you get the the Pokemon XD comes out on the on the silly thing and I would even say that Pokemon champions is kind of a a melding of these two things looking forward and looking back.
- 19:22[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, so I think like in terms of what the anniversary is supposed to be accomplishing, I think it is doing these things and I think like even with the the look at Pokemon wins and waves that we got, I think that that is a we are imagining the future, right?
- 19:39[UNKNOWN]: So so so now when it comes down to looking at these two releases and is it this question of taste?
- 19:46[UNKNOWN]: Is it a question of which one do I like more or is it a question of which one of these sets my my my fan of the brand heart on fire?
- 19:54[UNKNOWN]: Who are the who which one generates more enthusiasm?
- 19:58[UNKNOWN]: I think it's a Yeah, then that's the thing then so then if it's not one the choice is clear The choice is clear Z. Yeah, no question.
- 20:05[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's down now, but
- 20:07[UNKNOWN]: If I may, can I give some, can I give some flowers to Pokemon X D?
- 20:12[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
- 20:12[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 20:13[UNKNOWN]: So I had never, I had never played this game before.
- 20:15[UNKNOWN]: My first time playing it was this year.
- 20:17[UNKNOWN]: I streamed a lot of it.
- 20:19[UNKNOWN]: And I had a really good time with this game because I think that it actually does something similar to ZA in a certain way.
- 20:25[UNKNOWN]: So, um, there is this, uh, I used this a lot of the time in the classes that I teach a Victor Shilkovsky art of as technique.
- 20:32[UNKNOWN]: He has this idea that he really likes.
- 20:37[UNKNOWN]: And basically, art can make familiar things strange again, so that we perceive them rather than just recognizing them.
- 20:46[UNKNOWN]: So that's good, that's beautiful.
- 20:48[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and how many games do you see a Pokemon and you go, I know what that Pokemon does?
- 20:52[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, know what moves it should learn.
- 20:54[UNKNOWN]: I know all of this stuff, it's in the database of my mind.
- 20:57[UNKNOWN]: I don't even have to think about it anymore.
- 20:59[UNKNOWN]: Like, I think that's a big part of Pokemon.
- 21:01[UNKNOWN]: But yeah.
- 21:03[UNKNOWN]: In ZA, but then I'm talking about XZ right now, I think that there is this defamilialization because you have the element of shadow Pokemon.
- 21:10[UNKNOWN]: There is a invisible connection in every Pokemon game between the trainer and the Pokemon.
- 21:16[UNKNOWN]: So in a normal Pokemon game, you catch something and you are immediately a companion.
- 21:21[UNKNOWN]: The, the, it's mechanically self-evident.
- 21:24[UNKNOWN]: It gains experience, it levels, it evolves, it does all that stuff.
- 21:27[UNKNOWN]: And you actually don't have to notice that these systems are a representation of the relationship.
- 21:32[UNKNOWN]: It just kind of happens.
- 21:33[UNKNOWN]: But XD actually breaks that machinery in your mind.
- 21:36[UNKNOWN]: Now, a shadow Pokemon has its hearts door is closed.
- 21:41[UNKNOWN]: And when you catch a Pokemon or next D, it cannot earn experience.
- 21:44[UNKNOWN]: You cannot even nick name it.
- 21:46[UNKNOWN]: It doesn't even have access to a lot of the moves that otherwise would know.
- 21:50[UNKNOWN]: And you have to purify it.
- 21:52[UNKNOWN]: you have to reduce the little heart gauge and the way that you purify it is like battling and carrying it with you.
- 21:58[UNKNOWN]: So that familiar Pokemon loop.
- 22:00[UNKNOWN]: It stops functioning automatically and it becomes something that is much more active and that interruption is like the point of what that game is trying to do.
- 22:08[UNKNOWN]: And I think there was something about this.
- 22:10[UNKNOWN]: So I talked a little bit about in like HeartGold getting closer to that Pokemon because you have a specific relationship to it.
- 22:16[UNKNOWN]: I think XD does a very similar thing where
- 22:19[UNKNOWN]: I can't go on autopilot in XD.
- 22:21[UNKNOWN]: I have to really, really choose which Pokemon are going to be on my team because I got to lower that gauge and if I want them to be on my team, if I want to lower that gauge and get them on my team, we have to get in motion.
- 22:43[UNKNOWN]: And it's so, it's, and then, but then, dude, when you do it, you do it all.
- 22:48[UNKNOWN]: And you lower the heart gauge, it gets all the way full, and then that Pokemon games like a bunch of levels at once, and it's like at the catharsis.
- 22:58[UNKNOWN]: This is the, oh my god, that's stunning, I honestly, Jake, amazing idea, I love that so much, but we have arrived at the time in the show right speaking to the 30th year anniversary.
- 23:09[UNKNOWN]: We've arrived at that point in the show where we get to open up Pokemon cards, thanks to our sponsor, awesome CCG, 5% off.
- 23:17[UNKNOWN]: You can use the link in our description to get 33th anniversary Pokemon cards for 5% off on their store.
- 23:26[UNKNOWN]: This is the tech sticker collection, the Lucario edition.
- 23:29[UNKNOWN]: We get a holographic Lucario and there's a bunch of new packs in here as well.
- 23:35[UNKNOWN]: You get a Pikachu
- 23:38[UNKNOWN]: There's 30 Pikachu's to collect for 30 years of Pokemon, but there's also a ton of like retro cards in here as well like reprints from when I was a little baby child and I'm like really excited to maybe crack open some of those.
- 23:54[UNKNOWN]: What are some of your favorites who you've seen while I open this box in so little time?
- 24:00[UNKNOWN]: My number one chase of this set would be the SIR.
- 24:05[UNKNOWN]: I think it's SIR.
- 24:06[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 24:06[UNKNOWN]: Hesuyen, Zuruah, Full Art.
- 24:08[UNKNOWN]: It's a gorgeous card.
- 24:10[UNKNOWN]: It's just really pretty.
- 24:12[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 24:13[UNKNOWN]: There are several others that I would like in this set too.
- 24:15[UNKNOWN]: Like there's like this set is like...
- 24:18[UNKNOWN]: hyped for having just a bunch of good stuff and then the other thing about it is that the it sounds like the whole rates of like getting a good card are like just they're like enhanced.
- 24:29[UNKNOWN]: So you have a higher chance of getting like a really nice card compared to the other set so it's a fun one to open.
- 24:35[UNKNOWN]: We've opened a couple of these already and we got we got we pulled a James Turner Pikachu card like James Turner The the art director actually he's back at he's back at Pokemon now But then but I pulled one of his Pikachu's which is sick.
- 24:48[UNKNOWN]: So we got three packs here.
- 24:49[UNKNOWN]: I did get this Lucario card pretty nice We're gonna rip these open.
- 24:53[UNKNOWN]: I think what we can also do is maybe do a little
- 24:56[UNKNOWN]: I don't know, let's let's I'm actually like really excited to see what what are in these cards in these packs to be quite honest with you.
- 25:02[UNKNOWN]: The other cool thing about these about this set is that there is a special secret.
- 25:08[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, there's like three different variants of a new card that is like it's a secret rare that like they didn't even tell anybody about.
- 25:16[UNKNOWN]: And then it was like like it took like a couple weeks for it to even be confirmed as real so it was like a whole thing Yeah, so if you pull that dude if we pull that that would be insane put it on ice and then you're you're like 20 thousand dollars richer
- 25:33[UNKNOWN]: We'll have to do something big for the community.
- 25:35[UNKNOWN]: Dude, if that happens, that'd be the same.
- 25:38[UNKNOWN]: First off, amazing.
- 25:39[UNKNOWN]: We got a trophy us on the first card.
- 25:41[UNKNOWN]: Let's keep going.
- 25:42[UNKNOWN]: We got a Snorlax, another great card.
- 25:44[UNKNOWN]: That's actually really, that's going on in the flower binder.
- 25:47[UNKNOWN]: It's a Snorlax, sleeping in a bed of flowers.
- 25:49[UNKNOWN]: He looks like Dorothy.
- 25:50[UNKNOWN]: Yo, we got an article.
- 25:51[UNKNOWN]: We got an article.
- 25:53[UNKNOWN]: That's beautiful.
- 25:53[UNKNOWN]: What is this?
- 25:54[UNKNOWN]: It's got the little gold start.
- 25:57[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, this is an SIR.
- 25:58[UNKNOWN]: It's 132 at 128.
- 26:00[UNKNOWN]: That's sick, dude.
- 26:01[UNKNOWN]: So sick.
- 26:03[UNKNOWN]: Hold on, come on.
- 26:04[UNKNOWN]: Dude, that's crazy.
- 26:06[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, frosty.
- 26:08[UNKNOWN]: We got a loonala and then what's the Pikachu?
- 26:10[UNKNOWN]: Okay, we got another Pikachu right here.
- 26:12[UNKNOWN]: These are all the hollow.
- 26:14[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, the hollow patterns are crazy.
- 26:15[UNKNOWN]: They're so they're like they're kind of blinding me a little bit And then we get the leaf energy on the back.
- 26:20[UNKNOWN]: That was a good pack.
- 26:21[UNKNOWN]: That was good.
- 26:22[UNKNOWN]: Let's see if we can top it.
- 26:23[UNKNOWN]: We got another pack right here Here we go.
- 26:27[UNKNOWN]: Oh, dude
- 26:33[UNKNOWN]: Because sometimes you don't really get away.
- 26:35[UNKNOWN]: There's no everyone's judging me.
- 26:37[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, everyone's judging me now on the comments.
- 26:39[UNKNOWN]: We got the normal Artakuno right here.
- 26:42[UNKNOWN]: So, so beautiful.
- 26:43[UNKNOWN]: We got a vulby.
- 26:45[UNKNOWN]: Somehow making it into making its way into the 30th anniversary.
- 26:50[UNKNOWN]: Because everyone's nostalgic for a vulby.
- 26:52[UNKNOWN]: We got to talk slowly.
- 26:53[UNKNOWN]: That's actually pretty good.
- 26:55[UNKNOWN]: Very nice.
- 26:56[UNKNOWN]: Oh, we got a gang our EX.
- 26:57[UNKNOWN]: Beautiful man.
- 26:59[UNKNOWN]: That's that's really cool.
- 27:01[UNKNOWN]: And oh, we okay.
- 27:02[UNKNOWN]: This is our first Duke.
- 27:03[UNKNOWN]: We did pull this Pikachu last week on the podcast But that's still nice another grass energy.
- 27:09[UNKNOWN]: There's the code card that one more right here
- 27:12[UNKNOWN]: Are there fewer cards in E2D's backs?
- 27:15[UNKNOWN]: I think so.
- 27:16[UNKNOWN]: I think it feels like there's maybe five cards plus the Pikachu and then one of the five cards could be like a rare one.
- 27:24[UNKNOWN]: It's kind of, that's what it feels like.
- 27:26[UNKNOWN]: This is the last pack.
- 27:28[UNKNOWN]: You're getting like better cards though.
- 27:30[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I think so.
- 27:31[UNKNOWN]: And they're all holographs.
- 27:32[UNKNOWN]: I mean, yeah, they're all holographs.
- 27:33[UNKNOWN]: Right.
- 27:34[UNKNOWN]: Alright, we get zero aura.
- 27:36[UNKNOWN]: A pokey pad, dude, this card was like super good for competitive.
- 27:41[UNKNOWN]: I don't get it But this, I'm sure this one's gonna be sought after No way that's gonna be a good homie.
- 27:48[UNKNOWN]: This is yeah, we literally got the OG Pikachu with the gold foil Border, this is one of the OG reprints.
- 27:55[UNKNOWN]: So sick, man So sick, dude, that's sick.
- 27:58[UNKNOWN]: I'm so okay.
- 27:59[UNKNOWN]: That's awesome.
- 28:00[UNKNOWN]: Can you guys see this?
- 28:01[UNKNOWN]: Oh, if this is an audio only experience for you I'm sorry.
- 28:04[UNKNOWN]: I'm just you happen
- 28:05[UNKNOWN]: Do we we just pulled the this is the OG Pikachu from like what the base set It's like it's a reprint that's sick and we got a mu right on the back love to see that dude He's in some spooky woods and then oh, we got a can't so go more he Pikachu.
- 28:20[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yes That's a can't so go more if you could do this a brand is brand new art by can't so go more.
- 28:23[UNKNOWN]: I do what a good pole
- 28:25[UNKNOWN]: What a great pack with the elect dude.
- 28:27[UNKNOWN]: This was the Pikachu pack.
- 28:29[UNKNOWN]: We got the electric energy on the back and we got Let's take a look at this right you come on look at that This is the drive-factor right here.
- 28:37[UNKNOWN]: That's so good Holy cow guys if you want to get some 30th anniversary Pokemon cards
- 28:43[UNKNOWN]: Awesome CCG.
- 28:45[UNKNOWN]: We love them local card shop.
- 28:47[UNKNOWN]: They support the channel.
- 28:48[UNKNOWN]: Go support them if you're gonna get any of these cards anyways Use the link in the description you can go to our custom landing page and then use code hidden power at checkout and get 5% off Let them know that that we sent you we appreciate it.
- 29:02[UNKNOWN]: Thank you guys and I think we see a version of this in other Pokemon games honestly The earliest example that I think about
- 29:08[UNKNOWN]: is magic harp like that's almost like I don't know if you call it like a trope but like it's like you get this thing that is seemingly useless and it's only until you invest in it you go out of your way to invest in it where you're actually rewarded and I never thought about these these shadow games in this in this regard but when you had explained this to me Jake months ago it kind of like I've played these games I played these games growing up and I never thought
- 29:34[UNKNOWN]: Your explanation is is pretty beautiful on this.
- 29:38[UNKNOWN]: Like it actually it makes me want to play these games Because I look at I almost look at the shadow Pokemon as like I think a lot of fans almost look at the Almost look at the shadow Pokemon as like, you know bugs as if like their detriment to the experience, right?
- 29:52[UNKNOWN]: But what you're saying is like it's literally part of it.
- 29:55[UNKNOWN]: It's it's a this is why it's like a sub series, you know, it's there is a
- 30:01[UNKNOWN]: craft convention that I teach my classes a lot about there are flat characters and there are round characters and I think that what the shadow Pokemon does is that it takes this creature and it actually briefly converts them into a flat character because what is possible is is so much thinner than what is possible when they are fully restored.
- 30:22[UNKNOWN]: So there's this there's this crazy thing where purification getting closer to them, restoring
- 30:30[UNKNOWN]: mechanizes you knowing the Pokemon better because once you get to know it you get to you get to know all of it's moves What it's actually capable of it gets much stronger now it can evolve and you can go and you have to like truly unwalk that That's crazy and and the closeness of think about how awesome this is in every Pokemon game when you when you uh, you know we're playing fire and leaf green You catch a Pokemon and it says do you want to nickname this and I go I but I don't even
- 30:57[UNKNOWN]: I don't even know it.
- 30:58[UNKNOWN]: It's like when you don't talk.
- 30:59[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:00[UNKNOWN]: I want to see it.
- 31:00[UNKNOWN]: I want to see it's personality first.
- 31:02[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:02[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 31:02[UNKNOWN]: I want to get to know.
- 31:03[UNKNOWN]: And then I'm going to give him a name that matches the personality.
- 31:05[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 31:05[UNKNOWN]: And it's like, I feel like you get a little bit of that.
- 31:07[UNKNOWN]: You get a little bit of that in that in the mechanics of XD.
- 31:09[UNKNOWN]: Isn't that what do you think about that hoops?
- 31:11[UNKNOWN]: I think that's so cool.
- 31:13[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I think in terms of like what sets your heart on fire the most, I think I kind of lean.
- 31:20[UNKNOWN]: I think I'm with you guys, I lean in the direction of Z.A.
- 31:22[UNKNOWN]: Cause Z.A.
- 31:23[UNKNOWN]: had some of those things that not only did that, but they did it in a way that was like,
- 31:28[UNKNOWN]: There's like we've been waiting for this like we've been waiting for real-time combat forever so in that sense, I would also lean ZA Yeah, I'm also thinking about XD in this sense, and I think XD does this too because if you think about the premise of XD, it's like, okay We've got this game where you're kind of in this region that's sort of like it's literally like the wild west like there's there's these
- 31:52[UNKNOWN]: bad guys out there you're in the desert like their shadow Pokemon there there's this thing called shadow Pokemon like that already on its own is like picture interest and then it's like, oh, I have to steal these Pokemon from people and I get an EV as my starter that I can like evolve into whatever I want and it just has all of these things that like when you're imagining like what would be the best Pokemon game ever like it has a lot of those
- 32:18[UNKNOWN]: types of things, you know.
- 32:19[UNKNOWN]: So these games absolutely do kind of like get that fire going inside of you for sure.
- 32:25[UNKNOWN]: So I think this is a lot like to Jake's point.
- 32:29[UNKNOWN]: Like I think ZA does win here, but XD puts up a very good fight.
- 32:34[UNKNOWN]: Like it deserves its flowers.
- 32:36[UNKNOWN]: Something that I'm noticing and maybe this is obvious, but it's just clicking for me.
- 32:41[UNKNOWN]: Every single one of these games that
- 32:48[UNKNOWN]: present away to interact with your Pokemon and to battle in a completely different experience.
- 32:55[UNKNOWN]: Every single one of these games is offering none of these games are the same.
- 32:59[UNKNOWN]: None of these games are the same.
- 33:00[UNKNOWN]: You have Shadow Pokemon, you have real-time combat, you have the classic Pokemon RPG with Fire Red Leave Green, you have only double battles, which is why I hate champions, right?
- 33:09[UNKNOWN]: And it's only online and it's only ranked.
- 33:12[UNKNOWN]: And then Pocopia, you can't even battle, you can just
- 33:16[UNKNOWN]: houses with your buddies like but all of these things feel so integral to Pokemon so I think what I'm realizing is like during the 30th anniversary all of these games coming together is what actually is it's like they're just touching all the bases you know everything's being checked all the boxes are being checked off I'm going to say ZIA moves up but but thank you for the explanation Jake with that.
- 33:38[UNKNOWN]: Can I get what can I get a little a little of it to ZIA?
- 33:40[UNKNOWN]: Yeah yeah.
- 33:41[UNKNOWN]: All right so this is this
- 33:46[UNKNOWN]: to, maybe four, three, oh yeah, or um, uh, I don't, I'm still, I'm still, I'm doing what is, what is your top four?
- 33:56[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 33:59[UNKNOWN]: Ultra Sun Ultra Moon, Ultra Sun Ultra Moon, of course.
- 34:02[UNKNOWN]: Now, obviously, I'm cutting the Mystery Dungeon games out of this.
- 34:05[UNKNOWN]: We can't be, of course.
- 34:06[UNKNOWN]: We can't be, we can't be, then, because then we, TCG Pocket doesn't count.
- 34:10[UNKNOWN]: Well, then I start talking about Mystery Dungeon games and then everybody has this podcast and just dismisses my opinion for the rest of the show.
- 34:15[UNKNOWN]: Oh, he's one of the losers.
- 34:16[UNKNOWN]: Oh, he's one of the losers.
- 34:17[UNKNOWN]: Okay, Jake's bucket.
- 34:18[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, all right.
- 34:19[UNKNOWN]: So, yeah, yeah, so, so for me, it's always been,
- 34:25[UNKNOWN]: Red Bull y'all for me, Red and Blue is specific.
- 34:27[UNKNOWN]: Have, I think.
- 34:30[UNKNOWN]: are like one of the closest things video games have, wow, to a classic text.
- 34:35[UNKNOWN]: I think that when I play Pokemon Red and Blue, I feel like I'm reading Jane Austen or Shakespeare.
- 34:42[UNKNOWN]: I feel like there is you can go back, play these games endlessly, and have endless reads, get something different out of them every single time.
- 34:50[UNKNOWN]: And I gotta say, this has been challenged for me a little bit recently, because I am, I have such
- 34:56[UNKNOWN]: and a fusive response to fire red and leaf green that I do have to wonder if if maybe I've just been crazy this whole time and maybe the superior games are fire red and leaf green, but that's a whole can of worms.
- 35:07[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 35:08[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 35:08[UNKNOWN]: Um, but yeah, so I look at this image and I go, oh, that looks so cozy.
- 35:11[UNKNOWN]: Maybe I should go play this.
- 35:14[UNKNOWN]: There's something in the simplicity of these of of generation one.
- 35:18[UNKNOWN]: Oh my god, it's yeah, it's it's the things I could say the there's no abilities.
- 35:23[UNKNOWN]: There's no a hell of items.
- 35:25[UNKNOWN]: It's like it's just that it's like raw state, you know, and I think that the beauty of
- 35:31[UNKNOWN]: The first generation of Pokemon to me is that, you know, here's a, there's a, there's a, there's a couch, a couchified Pokemon take about this all the time.
- 35:37[UNKNOWN]: And it's, uh, this was Pokemon before they figured out what Pokemon was a statement that I think if you really think about it is meaningless.
- 35:45[UNKNOWN]: So I, the thing that I really like about these games is that I think that they do a profound amount of storytelling with an incredibly sparse amount of text.
- 35:56[UNKNOWN]: And that is what I think is really, really powerful about these games.
- 36:00[UNKNOWN]: The fact that you think about all the things that they kind of set into stone here, that became like totemic video game things, running up to the tall grass and Professor Oak stops you and it is the choice, the choice that you make over which partner you're going to have, that empowers you to go out into the world.
- 36:20[UNKNOWN]: That's already a beautiful bit of storytelling.
- 36:22[UNKNOWN]: But then, what does it mean that the first town that you go to has a gym that is locked off, that you cannot get inside?
- 36:29[UNKNOWN]: Why would they choose to do that?
- 36:31[UNKNOWN]: That is an intentional choice and it is to dramatize this idea that the world is not changing, you are.
- 36:37[UNKNOWN]: This is a journey about how you are going to change.
- 36:39[UNKNOWN]: So you are going to be back right in the place that you started in, but you are going to be entirely different and how will you know that you're different?
- 36:47[UNKNOWN]: That's a fun question.
- 36:47[UNKNOWN]: That's fine.
- 36:49[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, the fact that they do, I've talked about this to you before Dusty, but one of my favorite things in Gen 1 again.
- 36:55[UNKNOWN]: Uh, the Safari Zone.
- 36:57[UNKNOWN]: This is something that you don't see in any other Pokemon video game.
- 37:00[UNKNOWN]: This is a bespoke challenge.
- 37:02[UNKNOWN]: They say, hey, we are going to count your steps.
- 37:06[UNKNOWN]: That's crazy.
- 37:07[UNKNOWN]: And if you do too many steps, we're going to send you back to the beginning of this challenge.
- 37:12[UNKNOWN]: So what is this?
- 37:13[UNKNOWN]: This is a test.
- 37:14[UNKNOWN]: This is a gym leader-esque test of your ability to explore.
- 37:20[UNKNOWN]: A thing that Pokemon fans like to talk about a lot.
- 37:22[UNKNOWN]: We are testing your ability to traverse the Earth.
- 37:25[UNKNOWN]: And then, if you pass this test, if you are efficient in your steps, if you prove that you are talented.
- 37:32[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah, you're wearing the terrain.
- 37:34[UNKNOWN]: What do we do?
- 37:35[UNKNOWN]: Your prize?
- 37:36[UNKNOWN]: We give you access to a whole different kind of terrain.
- 37:39[UNKNOWN]: Sure.
- 37:39[UNKNOWN]: That's strength.
- 37:40[UNKNOWN]: Surf.
- 37:41[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:43[UNKNOWN]: That's the point.
- 37:43[UNKNOWN]: Surf, sorry.
- 37:44[UNKNOWN]: But it transforms this thing that used to be a barrier.
- 37:47[UNKNOWN]: It used to be an obstacle that you had to get around.
- 37:50[UNKNOWN]: It turns it now into an opportunity.
- 37:52[UNKNOWN]: That is a beautiful piece of structural storytelling.
- 37:55[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 37:56[UNKNOWN]: And the original games are just like full of this stuff.
- 38:00[UNKNOWN]: And I think that
- 38:01[UNKNOWN]: People are often fooled by story and games, and they think that stories what happens when control is rest away from the player.
- 38:08[UNKNOWN]: When the game stops and you have to read, when the character start talking, that's not what story is.
- 38:13[UNKNOWN]: It's not even close.
- 38:14[UNKNOWN]: So I think
- 38:16[UNKNOWN]: when we look at video games and what they're able to achieve.
- 38:21[UNKNOWN]: If you are not like, you can't separate story from the game.
- 38:25[UNKNOWN]: If you tell somebody a story about something that you felt in a Pokemon game, something that happened to you, that is a part of the game's story.
- 38:32[UNKNOWN]: They empowered you to feel that way and it's structure, and that's on purpose.
- 38:36[UNKNOWN]: So, I'm sorry, I'm sorry I did this whole tangent, but...
- 38:39[UNKNOWN]: I just say, just say, just say, uh, ultrasound, genuine.
- 38:47[UNKNOWN]: I'm torn.
- 38:47[UNKNOWN]: I'm torn between those two between the the remakes and the originals.
- 38:51[UNKNOWN]: And then, um, I think like Zay is is fighting for that that third spot against, um, like hardcore and soul silver for, yeah, yeah, yeah, sure, sure, yeah, oh yeah, wasn't even first.
- 39:02[UNKNOWN]: Zay, I was asking you about your top favorite games, right?
- 39:04[UNKNOWN]: But for Zia, that defamilialization that I was talking about before, the idea that every single Pokemon now, it's not only do you get to rediscover who this Pokemon is, it's that the way that their moves have been transformed.
- 39:17[UNKNOWN]: They've been redefined.
- 39:19[UNKNOWN]: What is protect in the world of in the battle system of Pokemon Zia made everything so much more exciting to me.
- 39:25[UNKNOWN]: Made it like
- 39:26[UNKNOWN]: an invitation to use Pokemon that I otherwise never would have used and to look at them differently.
- 39:31[UNKNOWN]: My favorite thing about Pokemon Legends Arquise is when you would, you know, cross over a hill and you'd see a lake and there'd be a bunch of side up over there chillin in the lake and I'm like damn, it's like there's, there's a way that I'm
- 39:43[UNKNOWN]: perceiving and learning about this thing that I love so much in a new way because of what the game set up.
- 39:48[UNKNOWN]: And I really like the combat of Zia.
- 39:51[UNKNOWN]: I say that it's the only Pokemon game in which the first battle you do.
- 39:56[UNKNOWN]: You pick your starter.
- 39:57[UNKNOWN]: You do your first battle.
- 39:58[UNKNOWN]: You're both level five is one of the most exciting battles in the game.
- 40:03[UNKNOWN]: That's the only Pokemon here where it starts off that fun.
- 40:08[UNKNOWN]: In so many Pokemon games, you have to work for the battles to get fun.
- 40:12[UNKNOWN]: You got a unlock on the game.
- 40:15[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 40:16[UNKNOWN]: And this is a Pokemon game where, no, actually, you get that Pokemon.
- 40:19[UNKNOWN]: You do your first battle.
- 40:20[UNKNOWN]: You're having, that's the fun, baby.
- 40:22[UNKNOWN]: There it is, right in front of you.
- 40:24[UNKNOWN]: Man, that is awesome.
- 40:25[UNKNOWN]: And I do think that there are some storytelling things that, that, okay, first off the plot of Z.A.
- 40:30[UNKNOWN]: Getting so nostalgic cheeks.
- 40:32[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, right now.
- 40:33[UNKNOWN]: I hate the plot of ZA.
- 40:34[UNKNOWN]: Oh, you don't like the plot.
- 40:35[UNKNOWN]: No, it's it's it's I would say it's a game about nothing It is so it is so confused.
- 40:39[UNKNOWN]: It is so it is so it is so confused and it's the magic intention has no idea what it's talking about The half the game it presents you with these Pokemon that are stuck in mega evolved states.
- 40:47[UNKNOWN]: They're stuck in it, right?
- 40:49[UNKNOWN]: And they can't escape it and it causes them pain and it's awful and they want to be released from it and then you've got a character over here fuck frickin
- 40:56[UNKNOWN]: Well, this idiot, and hell is trapped, he's immortal, but he's in pain and he doesn't like being immortal.
- 41:04[UNKNOWN]: So obviously his arc is to be released from his immortality, right?
- 41:09[UNKNOWN]: That makes sense.
- 41:10[UNKNOWN]: Oh, in the same way that we were freeing these Pokemon from the thing that they were stuck in.
- 41:14[UNKNOWN]: That makes sense and then you get to the end of the game and they go, Jake, congratulations.
- 41:17[UNKNOWN]: It's the end of your arc.
- 41:18[UNKNOWN]: You could do this forever!
- 41:20[UNKNOWN]: Wow, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it shouldn't end.
- 41:24[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, infinite, infinite royale.
- 41:28[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's the same thing.
- 41:30[UNKNOWN]: So there's like a hall over the game.
- 41:32[UNKNOWN]: I hate it.
- 41:33[UNKNOWN]: I want to push, I want to push back a little bit, though, because yeah, give me this game.
- 41:36[UNKNOWN]: This game actually does something specific that you said you like about ultra sun.
- 41:40[UNKNOWN]: You were saying, you were saying that ultra sun, you talked to all the NPCs and they all give you this
- 41:50[UNKNOWN]: situation.
- 41:51[UNKNOWN]: And I, yeah, I, I, to speak to, not to say that your criticisms are invalid, but I guess it's like how L was used in the sense that it's like, it's this character, this evil team leader from the previous game, but now he's like a vagabond.
- 42:08[UNKNOWN]: and he's like disheveled and broken.
- 42:10[UNKNOWN]: Like I thought that was so cool to just see him in a new light like that.
- 42:13[UNKNOWN]: And I also love how he was sort of used in the sense of he's taking the place of AZ because of course, AZ dies at the end of the game.
- 42:22[UNKNOWN]: And that's something we never thought would happen because he was literally immortal.
- 42:26[UNKNOWN]: So it shows, I feel like there's a lesson, or I guess they do, they do that with AZ.
- 42:33[UNKNOWN]: I guess AZ does that.
- 42:33[UNKNOWN]: Oh, I gotta say, when I was saying,
- 42:39[UNKNOWN]: These are the fact that they're just a lot so sorry these letters do you know, and they're they're they're you know, you know, the you know, the Pokemon trainer G Yeah, I agree.
- 42:50[UNKNOWN]: I know what you're saying and I and I think like
- 42:53[UNKNOWN]: seeing these characters again who were like so sparse in their original use kind of being like here's some more content with them yeah some more opportunity to use them yeah i i think all of that is cool too i think that your point about the mpcs are is like something that's really overlooked in zay and i'm not really sure why the the especially the ones that were added in the dlc there's really really good like funny like little entertaining ones that are just they're just fun against again like a really great uh just to lose ratio
- 43:21[UNKNOWN]: But, but there's just something about the ideas about like what it's saying, that I, a little bit, especially when we do talk about L that I'm like, L, they gave L this back story, like what L was doing?
- 43:36[UNKNOWN]: And the way that he's, no, I mean, oh, okay, you mean you mean L. Do you know what I mean, AZ, I'm so sorry.
- 43:42[UNKNOWN]: I'm so sorry, the way that AZ is kind of,
- 43:49[UNKNOWN]: they say, oh, it's like, okay, easy.
- 43:52[UNKNOWN]: It's like, I'll actually all that stuff you did.
- 43:53[UNKNOWN]: It's like the way the way they achieve that was like a little tough for me.
- 43:58[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 43:58[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 43:59[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 43:59[UNKNOWN]: No, I, yeah, we, yeah, we were talking a lot when this game came out.
- 44:02[UNKNOWN]: And I kept coming back to that conclusion.
- 44:04[UNKNOWN]: I'm like, okay, this horrible person that's supposed to be the horrible person.
- 44:08[UNKNOWN]: He's actually, he said, sorry, so it's fine.
- 44:11[UNKNOWN]: It's not really bad dude for a long time.
- 44:14[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, that's good.
- 44:16[UNKNOWN]: Um, yeah, okay, I'm having fun.
- 44:19[UNKNOWN]: This is good.
- 44:20[UNKNOWN]: But let's see.
- 44:22[UNKNOWN]: Jake, Jake, I'm so glad you're on the podcast.
- 44:23[UNKNOWN]: Honestly, I think when we're potting, I really feel like I'm just like, I got a private, I'm like in one of your private lectures, like, you know, you're my teacher.
- 44:33[UNKNOWN]: This is my class.
- 44:34[UNKNOWN]: So it's nice to hear you, yeah.
- 44:35[UNKNOWN]: I want to address a frequent complaint about Z.A.
- 44:39[UNKNOWN]: And I want to tell the haters to get lost.
- 44:40[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 44:41[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 44:42[UNKNOWN]: Z.
- 44:42[UNKNOWN]: A.
- 44:42[UNKNOWN]: What does everybody say?
- 44:43[UNKNOWN]: It's just in the city.
- 44:45[UNKNOWN]: It's just in the one city.
- 44:46[UNKNOWN]: It's just in the one city.
- 44:47[UNKNOWN]: I hate it.
- 44:47[UNKNOWN]: I hate it so much.
- 44:48[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 44:48[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 44:48[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 44:49[UNKNOWN]: The you.
- 44:49[UNKNOWN]: Oh, okay.
- 44:50[UNKNOWN]: The ground texture is white.
- 44:51[UNKNOWN]: Congratulations.
- 44:52[UNKNOWN]: Like, that's, you know, Scarlett and Violet's bio.
- 44:54[UNKNOWN]: So, it makes me, it makes me, it makes me, it makes me sick.
- 44:56[UNKNOWN]: Um, but something that I like about Z.
- 44:58[UNKNOWN]: A.
- 44:59[UNKNOWN]: In, and this is kind of like a storytelling thing.
- 45:01[UNKNOWN]: Is that I think,
- 45:04[UNKNOWN]: there is purpose and a point to the idea that you, the player, think that Lumios is insufficient.
- 45:11[UNKNOWN]: I think that that is, so, imagine this, you have a tourist relationship to Lumios, right?
- 45:19[UNKNOWN]: And I think that...
- 45:22[UNKNOWN]: In so many of these other Pokemon games, that is not the kind of context that you are placed in.
- 45:27[UNKNOWN]: You are placed as somebody who has a relationship to a small thing, and then you go out and it gets bigger and bigger and bigger.
- 45:32[UNKNOWN]: But that's not the relationship you have in ZA, right?
- 45:35[UNKNOWN]: And I think that when you go to the hotel,
- 45:40[UNKNOWN]: when you go to, when you have this relationship as, uh, you have a place to stay, but you don't have a place to belong.
- 45:48[UNKNOWN]: That is the exact same relationship that Pokemon have to the wild zones.
- 45:54[UNKNOWN]: And I think that there is like a,
- 45:59[UNKNOWN]: You can't remain a tourist forever.
- 46:02[UNKNOWN]: If the game refuses to provide an elsewhere, man, it's tough out there.
- 46:06[UNKNOWN]: It is so tough to be a Pokemon card collector right now because finding the product that you actually want can be nearly impossible.
- 46:13[UNKNOWN]: And that's why we've partnered today with Awesome CCG.
- 46:17[UNKNOWN]: Awesome CCG is my local card shop and they are always my number one choice for getting cards because they always have products Good luck finding anything at Target.
- 46:25[UNKNOWN]: They've got two locations in New England and an online store and right now just for hidden power listeners You can use code
- 46:32[UNKNOWN]: Hidden Power for 5% off any regularly marked products.
- 46:36[UNKNOWN]: Pokemon cards, plus she is board games, magic, the gathering.
- 46:39[UNKNOWN]: Any other TCG product that you can think of, they probably have.
- 46:42[UNKNOWN]: And right now, you can save 5% on the latest Mega Evolution products with code, Hidden Power, and the timeline for the rest of the year is looking pretty slick.
- 46:50[UNKNOWN]: The next English set is all about Mega Ray Quaza Gen 3 ports.
- 46:54[UNKNOWN]: That's gonna be releasing in November, but if you wanna be slick and show off to your friends or maybe your wife or maybe the discord group chat, you can get a bunch of these brand new mega-rate quasi-cards right now in the Japanese set storm emeral done.
- 47:08[UNKNOWN]: So you can get all these beautiful cards three months early and personally you didn't hear it from me.
- 47:13[UNKNOWN]: I think the Japanese cards are just higher quality.
- 47:16[UNKNOWN]: I don't play the TCG, I'm a collector, so I love to collect the Japanese cards and their
- 47:21[UNKNOWN]: cheaper.
- 47:21[UNKNOWN]: Links are in the description and the pinned comment.
- 47:23[UNKNOWN]: Use code hidden power to get 5% up any Pokemon cards that you were already going to buy.
- 47:28[UNKNOWN]: It's a no-brainer.
- 47:29[UNKNOWN]: Thank you awesome CCG for sponsoring and now back to the podcast.
- 47:32[UNKNOWN]: So this repetition in the game produces this knowledge where you recognize more of the space in front of you and anticipate what it is.
- 47:41[UNKNOWN]: And I think, yeah, and I think the city doesn't have to get bigger, but I think your relationship
- 47:49[UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
- 47:49[UNKNOWN]: I think that a lot of the systems in Z.A.
- 47:51[UNKNOWN]: are designed around like getting to know the like space in a way that is not typical of Pokemon games.
- 48:00[UNKNOWN]: So a lot of fans kind of react to it negatively, but I just think it's something different.
- 48:04[UNKNOWN]: And it's like, you've got a we haven't been trained in how to read this because so many Pokemon games, I think the way the people have been trained to read them is in comparison to other Pokemon games.
- 48:13[UNKNOWN]: That's like, do you think there's a
- 48:17[UNKNOWN]: Do you think of a connection there between like this idea of like temporary residents?
- 48:21[UNKNOWN]: I feel like that does kind of tie in at least on a surface level.
- 48:25[UNKNOWN]: Like I think about AZ, how we just wandering the globe, all kind of does the same thing as well.
- 48:29[UNKNOWN]: And then I'm also thinking about now the mega dimension where you're in these spaces for a limited amount of time and everything looks familiar, but it's like, you know, just kind of an abstraction or like it's like a hallucinational most.
- 48:43[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I don't know, I guess I'm
- 48:46[UNKNOWN]: What was your read on all those other ideas are connected um yeah, I think so.
- 48:50[UNKNOWN]: So there's um the practice of everyday life by a Michelle day serto and it's this this idea that um there is the city as it is organized versus the city as it is practice he kind of has this famous firm formulation which is space is a practice to place.
- 49:07[UNKNOWN]: So the street was planned for you, but walking the street reduces a different kind of knowledge entirely.
- 49:14[UNKNOWN]: So walking through a city is like speaking a language.
- 49:16[UNKNOWN]: The city supplies the possible routes, but the pedestrian makes something particular out of the routes.
- 49:22[UNKNOWN]: So that's, I think that's the video game, that's like, yeah, that's, that's, yeah.
- 49:26[UNKNOWN]: And I think like, does, is the game entirely successful in this?
- 49:30[UNKNOWN]: I would say no, because does it use the city to its full extent?
- 49:35[UNKNOWN]: Is there ever a point in the game where you are running away from a Pokemon or somebody else?
- 49:40[UNKNOWN]: And you have to go down an alley and use it as an escape route?
- 49:43[UNKNOWN]: Like, no.
- 49:44[UNKNOWN]: Is there a time when you have to really like puzzle out how to get to a rooftop?
- 49:49[UNKNOWN]: Not really.
- 49:50[UNKNOWN]: Not really.
- 49:51[UNKNOWN]: It is a little bit, but not really.
- 49:53[UNKNOWN]: But I think that there's this idea there about tourism because tourism gives you place before it gives you practice.
- 49:59[UNKNOWN]: So you arrive to Lumios and you are a tourist.
- 50:02[UNKNOWN]: It is you define it by the cafes and the hotel and the landmarks and the map.
- 50:08[UNKNOWN]: And I think the narrative can then measure your growing attachment about how you've come to love and appreciate the city by your increasing ability to use it.
- 50:20[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 50:20[UNKNOWN]: Um, Lumios becomes yours because you learn how to walk it, right?
- 50:25[UNKNOWN]: No this is this is good.
- 50:26[UNKNOWN]: I'm thinking it's not entirely there, but it's it's a little there.
- 50:29[UNKNOWN]: No, that's really that I think that is kind of that like Tugs on I think what a lot of People have found an issue with ZAA with like all like they're I don't know I feel like We get these cool
- 50:42[UNKNOWN]: I'm thinking about the biomes.
- 50:43[UNKNOWN]: I'm thinking about the tunnels.
- 50:44[UNKNOWN]: I'm thinking about the the swimmers, right?
- 50:47[UNKNOWN]: These are like kind of interesting surface level.
- 50:49[UNKNOWN]: Like, oh, this is kind of cool.
- 50:50[UNKNOWN]: We've never seen this in a Pokemon game before.
- 50:52[UNKNOWN]: But then they always kind of fall flat.
- 50:54[UNKNOWN]: And I think it's like, it's the experience that you're talking about that is missing.
- 51:01[UNKNOWN]: It's just there, but it doesn't mean anything.
- 51:03[UNKNOWN]: There's nothing, there's like no interaction between like the gameplay.
- 51:07[UNKNOWN]: and like the only interaction between the environment and the gameplay is I guess the Pokemon battles because you can like theoretically hide behind benches or obstacles.
- 51:18[UNKNOWN]: There's certain there's there's some of those things there.
- 51:21[UNKNOWN]: Well and I just I would say that don't consider the environment so literally because the fact of the matter is is that the battle environment is completely new because before you were just
- 51:31[UNKNOWN]: a static thing standing there.
- 51:33[UNKNOWN]: So that is the environment in your head where is now the environment is this literal 3D space.
- 51:39[UNKNOWN]: So you do like a tourist, you have to get to know things so that you know how to do it.
- 51:44[UNKNOWN]: So you know the distance of your moves and how you can, how long it takes to charge up this one move until you can use it and how it's going to hit.
- 51:51[UNKNOWN]: I, man, just brass tax, game or stuff, only Pokemon game, or I said to my friends,
- 52:00[UNKNOWN]: Only one.
- 52:00[UNKNOWN]: I did play online a lot on ZAA.
- 52:03[UNKNOWN]: It was a lot of fun.
- 52:04[UNKNOWN]: So fun dude.
- 52:05[UNKNOWN]: They're quick out out and even if I was getting like fwamps, it was still a lot of fun.
- 52:10[UNKNOWN]: Shout out.
- 52:12[UNKNOWN]: Mega M4.
- 52:13[UNKNOWN]: Let's go.
- 52:14[UNKNOWN]: Meganeal.
- 52:15[UNKNOWN]: Meganeal is the only way to go.
- 52:17[UNKNOWN]: Meganeal is the only way to go.
- 52:19[UNKNOWN]: Body's everything in competitive.
- 52:21[UNKNOWN]: Wow.
- 52:22[UNKNOWN]: What was your whoops?
- 52:23[UNKNOWN]: Did you play online?
- 52:24[UNKNOWN]: What was your squad?
- 52:27[UNKNOWN]: I played a little bit online, but I didn't do it, like, competitively, I had, let's see.
- 52:32[UNKNOWN]: Like, what was it, what was your three?
- 52:35[UNKNOWN]: I think I just, I just rolled with the team that I had, which was, like, Thralligator.
- 52:39[UNKNOWN]: Ooh.
- 52:42[UNKNOWN]: We can't remember.
- 52:42[UNKNOWN]: I'd have to pull it up.
- 52:44[UNKNOWN]: I think I'd brought out Zerney as a couple times just to, that was you.
- 52:47[UNKNOWN]: A legendary.
- 52:49[UNKNOWN]: That was you this whole time?
- 52:51[UNKNOWN]: You was in Zerney?
- 52:51[UNKNOWN]: Yes, Jesus.
- 52:53[UNKNOWN]: Do you have any memories of moves that stick out to you that you're all.
- 52:58[UNKNOWN]: I would say water shuriken, I hate Greninja, but as soon as I figured out what I figured out, Greninja set up, and it was, I love using AquaJet on for alligator, because it's like, I would have like, I would have bigger moves like, like, crunch or like hydro pump that are my heavy hitters.
- 53:16[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 53:16[UNKNOWN]: And then I would have AquaJet as that thing that like, ooh, I can get right in and out and just hit you really quick.
- 53:22[UNKNOWN]: So that that was a great thing and I love I love your tourist analogy because that that it's so true because it's like The mat like like literally speaking were a tourist in the city everything is unfamiliar to us, but then like as the player that's reflected but the battle style because it's like oh there's this thing we've never experienced before we've got to learn it and get used to it like that's damn and I guess that's that's some good like storytelling there.
- 53:49[UNKNOWN]: Oh, and think about like when you're a lot worse, I think that's what the gamers felt like too.
- 53:52[UNKNOWN]: Of course.
- 53:53[UNKNOWN]: That's why everyone was upset by it.
- 53:55[UNKNOWN]: And they're like, it doesn't feel right.
- 53:56[UNKNOWN]: It's not my house.
- 53:58[UNKNOWN]: The the Quarver, the game, the the Quarver, but I think as a tourist is observation.
- 54:03[UNKNOWN]: And I think the thing that I like about Pokemon battles and GA is that it's like three minutes of concentrated observation.
- 54:09[UNKNOWN]: Like when when I think about the moves that I like to use in GA, I'm going to tell you the dumbest thing.
- 54:14[UNKNOWN]: I remember, I'm like, I've got my machamp out and I'm about to fight this guard of war and the guard of war thinks that they have me, but I'm a freaking genius.
- 54:21[UNKNOWN]: So they, they, they queue up their their psychic type move and I know exactly when to press that switch button so that machamp gets out of there.
- 54:30[UNKNOWN]: And then I throw in somebody else and then when I throw them in, it's like guard of war is like, oh, I'm still strong against you and I go, okay, it's who is it?
- 54:37[UNKNOWN]: It's my emboer.
- 54:38[UNKNOWN]: And then I go, okay, you're going to hit me with another psychic type move.
- 54:41[UNKNOWN]: I click in that stick a little mega evolve.
- 54:43[UNKNOWN]: I'm immune.
- 54:44[UNKNOWN]: And now Gardivore is on the back foot.
- 54:47[UNKNOWN]: They have a type advantage against me There is no universe in which I am going to be the one that takes on this Gardivore Except I know now that the cooldowns for their psychic type moves are are going down So it's like do I bet that they have a third psychic type attacking move?
- 55:00[UNKNOWN]: That's good.
- 55:00[UNKNOWN]: It's a no shot So now I have the the advantage in this battle and it's and I am dude and that is all just based on Observation and like reacting and I haven't even used
- 55:14[UNKNOWN]: A move yet like so freaking cool man, and it's like do you ever have that moment where you are just like watching two people and one of those those battle arenas Where it's a four people and they're battling and you go.
- 55:25[UNKNOWN]: Okay, if I use this move right now I can kill them, but yeah, and it's like, oh No, that was always the sweetest playing online.
- 55:33[UNKNOWN]: That's another thing.
- 55:33[UNKNOWN]: I guess for listeners I'm taking a lot of things for granted here, but like like for context, but like yeah, Jake you you love fighting games
- 55:44[UNKNOWN]: ZA because I don't think a lot of us play fighting games like like I think there's a completely different type of like play style that and expectation for a Pokemon game that Contra Dix what a fighting game is and what it like requires from the player
- 56:01[UNKNOWN]: I just sent you a little clip on on discord if you want to pull it up to you.
- 56:04[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 56:05[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that was me.
- 56:06[UNKNOWN]: I actually actually found a thread of like cool things I did in Pokemon ZA battle.
- 56:11[UNKNOWN]: Oh, this is good.
- 56:11[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 56:11[UNKNOWN]: And I was and I of just of just like me sharing these little clips.
- 56:15[UNKNOWN]: So here the clip that you're seeing is that I see that there's a guard shop.
- 56:19[UNKNOWN]: There's a guard shop on the field.
- 56:20[UNKNOWN]: But it's frozen.
- 56:22[UNKNOWN]: So I know that the person controlling that guard shop is going to switch their Pokemon.
- 56:26[UNKNOWN]: So I queue up my thunder move and dissipating the switch and then sure enough the switch count comes and I get that and I get that kill and if you get the kill a little slurp off got it.
- 56:36[UNKNOWN]: No, I got this kill watches watches watch this ready for this
- 56:39[UNKNOWN]: Oh, that's me and then you hear the slurp off.
- 56:42[UNKNOWN]: No, no, no, you're the right you look at the point in the top left.
- 56:44[UNKNOWN]: That's me.
- 56:45[UNKNOWN]: Yep.
- 56:46[UNKNOWN]: So the one turns into a two right here.
- 56:47[UNKNOWN]: Oh, I see.
- 56:48[UNKNOWN]: No, I got it.
- 56:49[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that was good.
- 56:50[UNKNOWN]: That's good.
- 56:50[UNKNOWN]: That's good.
- 56:50[UNKNOWN]: That's good.
- 56:52[UNKNOWN]: That's beautiful because thunder is like one of the slowest moves to use exactly.
- 56:56[UNKNOWN]: They've got to be like right in that spot or the you miss it.
- 56:58[UNKNOWN]: So like that's that is like and you see when I do the command and it's like it wouldn't have even affected that car chop.
- 57:04[UNKNOWN]: This game is so much fun.
- 57:06[UNKNOWN]: It's like, and it's like the game is obviously not telling you that, but it this shows that's like, okay, there is a way to use every move.
- 57:13[UNKNOWN]: You've just kind of like piece it together.
- 57:15[UNKNOWN]: Like that's that's odd.
- 57:16[UNKNOWN]: I got to say the other another huge
- 57:20[UNKNOWN]: commonly repeated criticism of Z.A.
- 57:24[UNKNOWN]: is that there's no strategy required.
- 57:27[UNKNOWN]: It's just not crazy.
- 57:28[UNKNOWN]: It's button-mashing.
- 57:29[UNKNOWN]: That's crazy.
- 57:30[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and that's crazy.
- 57:31[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, because I think what that is, it's what it is.
- 57:33[UNKNOWN]: How come I'm always waiting?
- 57:35[UNKNOWN]: You know what's, and you know what's funny about that criticism not only, not only what I say that it's wrong, but it's also exactly what, like people who say that are probably going to be advocates for traditional
- 57:53[UNKNOWN]: You can't save my shit.
- 57:55[UNKNOWN]: There's no one in the audience on this podcast.
- 57:59[UNKNOWN]: Oh my god.
- 58:00[UNKNOWN]: That's good.
- 58:03[UNKNOWN]: That's crazy.
- 58:04[UNKNOWN]: Give me criticism, but do not tell me it's button.
- 58:07[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's insane.
- 58:09[UNKNOWN]: That's insane.
- 58:10[UNKNOWN]: All right.
- 58:11[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so Z.A.
- 58:12[UNKNOWN]: moves on.
- 58:12[UNKNOWN]: This has been this has been good.
- 58:14[UNKNOWN]: Well, I guess logging off and I'm going to go start up a new game at Z.A.
- 58:17[UNKNOWN]: Right.
- 58:17[UNKNOWN]: I think I'm not doing this all the way shit.
- 58:19[UNKNOWN]: Oh my god.
- 58:19[UNKNOWN]: Z.A.
- 58:20[UNKNOWN]: What a game.
- 58:20[UNKNOWN]: So how does it work?
- 58:21[UNKNOWN]: This is what what's what's the correct order for like a bracket?
- 58:25[UNKNOWN]: This is the first time we're doing a bracket on Hidden Power, but like, did I go down first or should I go to the right?
- 58:29[UNKNOWN]: I think you got to go down first.
- 58:31[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 58:31[UNKNOWN]: Let's go down.
- 58:32[UNKNOWN]: Next we got fire red and leaf green and Pokemon champions.
- 58:35[UNKNOWN]: This isn't fair.
- 58:36[UNKNOWN]: No.
- 58:37[UNKNOWN]: I can't understand.
- 58:38[UNKNOWN]: I understand how you see that a professional NFL team against my elementary school P. Whisquat.
- 58:45[UNKNOWN]: All right.
- 58:46[UNKNOWN]: That was like, I'm a quarterback on Pokemon champions.
- 58:49[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 58:49[UNKNOWN]: And then Jalen Hurts is on Pokemon Fire and Leaf Green and we're playing against each other.
- 58:54[UNKNOWN]: A little reference for the heads out there.
- 58:56[UNKNOWN]: I think Fire and Leaf Green, I think they move up.
- 59:00[UNKNOWN]: Easy.
- 59:01[UNKNOWN]: It's like such a substantial Pokemon experience.
- 59:05[UNKNOWN]: I don't know, whoops, you kind of push back on this, I was under the assumption that over the last, right, listen, as the, as the Gen Z have, as, as Gen Z is overtaken popularity and in, in, in, in popular thought on YouTube, right?
- 59:20[UNKNOWN]: I feel like Jodo has kind of been thrown to the wayside, and I feel like Kanto is also kind of thrown to the wayside, and my understanding that, that, my understanding was that like the, the top three games of all time collectively understood by the,
- 59:35[UNKNOWN]: You know, parts of the community were Harkold Solsover platinum and then maybe black two and white two and I thought and I think I've almost like I almost fell victim to that and over the last like four months I have realized that fire and leave green.
- 59:50[UNKNOWN]: I think are like maybe talk to Pokemon games
- 59:55[UNKNOWN]: Can I tell you something that is different in my perception of the world is that in the more mainstream gamer reputation like the people in the my like kind of games media circles and stuff like that I would say that it is like emerald by a mile.
- 1:00:11[UNKNOWN]: is the really people people go crazy for emerald.
- 1:00:16[UNKNOWN]: And I think that you can maybe run the arithmetic there because there is a kind of common age of the person who is involved in games media.
- 1:00:24[UNKNOWN]: You can probably crunch the numbers and figure out why that is.
- 1:00:26[UNKNOWN]: But I would say that like emerald and a heart-gold soul silver are the ones that I hear the most for sure.
- 1:00:31[UNKNOWN]: Okay, great.
- 1:00:32[UNKNOWN]: And it's not even close.
- 1:00:33[UNKNOWN]: Just for the sake of putting that out there.
- 1:00:34[UNKNOWN]: Okay, but um, you know, I already I already did a good amount of talking about Jen one.
- 1:00:38[UNKNOWN]: I think all that stuff is true in fire and leaf green.
- 1:00:40[UNKNOWN]: Um, I think that there is like, so are there, are there major differences or, or detractors, ways that fire and leaf green are worse than red blue and yellow for you?
- 1:00:49[UNKNOWN]: Why is that they're worse?
- 1:00:51[UNKNOWN]: Wow.
- 1:00:52[UNKNOWN]: That's it.
- 1:00:52[UNKNOWN]: That's a better or better.
- 1:00:53[UNKNOWN]: I'm just trying to like, well, like, what is the difference, right?
- 1:00:55[UNKNOWN]: If we're, how much of the venn diagram do they share?
- 1:00:59[UNKNOWN]: Should we be doing Hidden Power Venn diagram?
- 1:01:01[UNKNOWN]: I kind of like that.
- 1:01:01[UNKNOWN]: That's a format.
- 1:01:03[UNKNOWN]: I'll look into that.
- 1:01:07[UNKNOWN]: I wrote a piece on my blog about Pokemon Fire and Leafscreen.
- 1:01:10[UNKNOWN]: And the premise of this piece, it was called, you don't understand Pokemon, and that's why it works.
- 1:01:16[UNKNOWN]: And my primary citation there is that, for the audience, it doesn't know me, by the way.
- 1:01:22[UNKNOWN]: I do a favor.
- 1:01:24[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, number number one gaming sub stack on the internet.
- 1:01:27[UNKNOWN]: That's right.
- 1:01:28[UNKNOWN]: That's right.
- 1:01:28[UNKNOWN]: Number one.
- 1:01:28[UNKNOWN]: They just launched the game's leaderboard.
- 1:01:30[UNKNOWN]: Who's at the top me?
- 1:01:32[UNKNOWN]: Jake there it is.
- 1:01:33[UNKNOWN]: Maybe there it is.
- 1:01:34[UNKNOWN]: Oh, look at that delicious.
- 1:01:37[UNKNOWN]: So if you scroll down a little bit, you're going to see that there is a little vina store there.
- 1:01:41[UNKNOWN]: Oh, look at that.
- 1:01:42[UNKNOWN]: Look at that.
- 1:01:42[UNKNOWN]: Look at that.
- 1:01:43[UNKNOWN]: So my my primary citation on this blog is John Steinbex, the winter of our discontent.
- 1:01:48[UNKNOWN]: My favorite Steinbeck by the way.
- 1:01:50[UNKNOWN]: So.
- 1:01:51[UNKNOWN]: If you read the Pearl and high school, if they made you read the Pearl, that shit sucks.
- 1:01:54[UNKNOWN]: Okay, that I can't leave a comment.
- 1:01:56[UNKNOWN]: Leave a comment if you've read the Pearl.
- 1:01:58[UNKNOWN]: They make everybody read the Pearl because it's short, but it's not good.
- 1:02:00[UNKNOWN]: And all of the other Steinbex are good.
- 1:02:02[UNKNOWN]: And they just take the shitty one.
- 1:02:03[UNKNOWN]: It makes me so bad.
- 1:02:04[UNKNOWN]: It's like, it's like, I imagine if you were at Pokemon school and they said, okay, the Pokemon game we're going to play is just...
- 1:02:11[UNKNOWN]: black and white.
- 1:02:12[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:02:12[UNKNOWN]: Anyways, so, oh man.
- 1:02:18[UNKNOWN]: But the thing that I read about in this piece is that at the very top of it, I open with this quote from the Winter of our discontent.
- 1:02:24[UNKNOWN]: What a frightening thing is the human, a massive gauges and dials and registers, and we can read only a few, and those perhaps not accurately.
- 1:02:30[UNKNOWN]: So the idea that the human body is made up of all of these things for us to understand each other and get
- 1:02:37[UNKNOWN]: the kind of like core of human existence is that we misunderstand each other constantly.
- 1:02:41[UNKNOWN]: How is that possible?
- 1:02:43[UNKNOWN]: And I think that that to me is like what Pokemon fire and leaf green are is this thing where you think you understand it, but then if you look a little closer, there's so much there.
- 1:02:56[UNKNOWN]: So what I write about as like an addition, something that didn't exist in red and blue that is in fire and leaf green that I really like for it.
- 1:03:03[UNKNOWN]: And just so you and I have talked about this.
- 1:03:06[UNKNOWN]: Pokemon placed where they understand each other.
- 1:03:11[UNKNOWN]: So what do I mean by this?
- 1:03:13[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:14[UNKNOWN]: So something that Pokemon Fire and Leaf Green add that Red and Blue does not have is that Pokemon have abilities, right?
- 1:03:21[UNKNOWN]: And I think we like abilities.
- 1:03:23[UNKNOWN]: I think abilities are cool.
- 1:03:24[UNKNOWN]: That's like a nice wrinkle in the battle system that helps kind of you familiarize Pokemon with like the mechanics in the game and make some feel more developed as a concept.
- 1:03:35[UNKNOWN]: But the thing that I really like about them is that there is like a route early in the game, right?
- 1:03:41[UNKNOWN]: Monkey and jigglypuff are on the same route.
- 1:03:44[UNKNOWN]: And that is not how they were in Pokemon Red and Blue.
- 1:03:47[UNKNOWN]: Why did they do that?
- 1:03:48[UNKNOWN]: Why did they put Manky and Jigglypuff on the same route early in the game all of the sudden?
- 1:03:51[UNKNOWN]: And it's because with the abilities now in play, these are two Pokemon that communicate with each other, where previously they had not.
- 1:03:59[UNKNOWN]: Jigglypuff is going to annoy you.
- 1:04:01[UNKNOWN]: You're going to fight one in battle.
- 1:04:02[UNKNOWN]: You're going to fight one in battle.
- 1:04:04[UNKNOWN]: And they're going to put you to sleep.
- 1:04:05[UNKNOWN]: And you're going to be so freaking annoyed man.
- 1:04:07[UNKNOWN]: But then there's they're giving you the tools to avoid this.
- 1:04:11[UNKNOWN]: You know, this episode is is very spooky.
- 1:04:14[UNKNOWN]: and what's even spookier is how much amazing support we get over on Patreon and right here on YouTube by our Hall of Fame members are the highest, the highest supporters, let's shout out our people, the people who make this whole show possible.
- 1:04:34[UNKNOWN]: Jen Renegade, the real Poké god
- 1:04:41[UNKNOWN]: S.E.H.
- 1:04:42[UNKNOWN]: Art Gold, Louis Jervais, and Hornet Highlander, as well as floppy discrepairman, Zoo, Zoo, Zoo on, father dot, dagda, ball guy, and Ryan.
- 1:04:53[UNKNOWN]: Thank you guys so much for being mythical tier supporters.
- 1:04:56[UNKNOWN]: We appreciate you guys so much.
- 1:04:57[UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
- 1:04:58[UNKNOWN]: And at the RCS tier, we also have Chief Keith, 93 supporting us at that RCS tier, that mid-level RCS tier.
- 1:05:07[UNKNOWN]: And finally at the game freak and level tier these guys are the creators themselves that they really know What's going on with those types.
- 1:05:13[UNKNOWN]: We have no idea, but they do they do Ramtastic young Smokey and young Smokey once more because this man All of you guys support a season game freak and level tier, but young Smokey Support us on both platforms which is insane
- 1:05:29[UNKNOWN]: We love you guys.
- 1:05:30[UNKNOWN]: We support you and we can not do this show without you or anyone else Who the hundreds of other people who support at the $5 tier.
- 1:05:38[UNKNOWN]: Thank you guys so much for your support Please there is a predator prey relationship there with jigglypuff and manky where the manky having ability or they can't be put to sleep
- 1:05:47[UNKNOWN]: and damn vital for it.
- 1:05:50[UNKNOWN]: Beautiful.
- 1:05:51[UNKNOWN]: It is there's a space that exists here before you even encounter it.
- 1:05:55[UNKNOWN]: And this happens so freaking off in man.
- 1:05:58[UNKNOWN]: It's like the you get to, um, there's so many examples of these.
- 1:06:02[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, please go.
- 1:06:03[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to go.
- 1:06:04[UNKNOWN]: Oh, no, please.
- 1:06:05[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, he moves here.
- 1:06:07[UNKNOWN]: I just discovered this.
- 1:06:08[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:06:08[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:06:09[UNKNOWN]: I'm exploring.
- 1:06:10[UNKNOWN]: This was last month.
- 1:06:11[UNKNOWN]: I'm exploring.
- 1:06:11[UNKNOWN]: It's really in cave of the post game.
- 1:06:14[UNKNOWN]: I was just gonna, I'm just training, but I happen to stumble upon you two and I said, you know what?
- 1:06:19[UNKNOWN]: Let's go with this.
- 1:06:20[UNKNOWN]: I'm gonna, I'm not prepared.
- 1:06:22[UNKNOWN]: Let's go with this.
- 1:06:23[UNKNOWN]: Let me try to catch Mewtwo.
- 1:06:24[UNKNOWN]: It, I spent two hours trying to catch Mewtwo.
- 1:06:26[UNKNOWN]: I did catch it, but then I was texting my buddies in my group chat and they said, oh, it's actually really easy.
- 1:06:32[UNKNOWN]: You can catch Paris in that cave, which already has spore and false swipes.
- 1:06:38[UNKNOWN]: So they give you the tools, interleading cave, to overcome that challenge of Mewtwo, right away, right?
- 1:06:44[UNKNOWN]: The most ultimate, most difficult Pokemon to capture in the game, they are giving the tools if you explore.
- 1:06:49[UNKNOWN]: I thought that was so interesting.
- 1:06:51[UNKNOWN]: I never knew that was there.
- 1:06:53[UNKNOWN]: It's all two hours.
- 1:06:54[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:06:54[UNKNOWN]: If you were saying lavender town, lavender town?
- 1:06:56[UNKNOWN]: Well, actually, do you recognize any of these?
- 1:06:59[UNKNOWN]: Like, just on memory?
- 1:07:03[UNKNOWN]: Not really, but I love it.
- 1:07:04[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:07:05[UNKNOWN]: I love that as an observation.
- 1:07:08[UNKNOWN]: It's just fun.
- 1:07:08[UNKNOWN]: Any time you notice these little things, I mean, but actually there is one I've mentioned it before and it's it's also it doesn't exclusively apply to fire at least green, but it's really interesting how The first gym later you face in canto is obviously Brock he's a rock type gym the man and this this this applies the best in yellow, but it kind of applies to just all of them in general.
- 1:07:33[UNKNOWN]: There are basically, there's a lot of Pokemon you can catch prior to, there's a handful, I should say.
- 1:07:40[UNKNOWN]: That you can catch prior to facing Brock, one of which primarily is like a PG for instance, or a Spira.
- 1:07:47[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, both of those Pokemon, normal flying types, both ineffective against, oh yeah, they're doing nothing.
- 1:07:55[UNKNOWN]: But then, there is a Pokemon like Nitteran and Nitteran has double kick.
- 1:08:01[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:08:02[UNKNOWN]: It's like the rare encounter prior to getting to Brock.
- 1:08:07[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:08:07[UNKNOWN]: So it's basically saying that if you're willing to stick it out and find this Nitteran, here's your reward.
- 1:08:13[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:08:15[UNKNOWN]: So absolutely absolutely that's a that's not as cool of an example, but No, no, that's still an example.
- 1:08:22[UNKNOWN]: Even even giving Charmander in fire red and leave creating metal claw, right?
- 1:08:26[UNKNOWN]: Which is a which is a type that didn't even exist in generation one I think is maybe a gesture towards that.
- 1:08:32[UNKNOWN]: It's a little bit different, but I think that is a gesture towards like almost like balancing, you know But yeah Jake, what
- 1:08:39[UNKNOWN]: You had an example and I think this is a really good one that you were about to say in your live in their town.
- 1:08:44[UNKNOWN]: Can you remind me?
- 1:08:45[UNKNOWN]: It's the Pokemon Warren bite.
- 1:08:47[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
- 1:08:47[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:08:49[UNKNOWN]: Which is dark type.
- 1:08:49[UNKNOWN]: So that's going to be really good against the live your town.
- 1:08:52[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it goes.
- 1:08:53[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:08:54[UNKNOWN]: So there's just like something there about like, you can talk so much about like the
- 1:09:06[UNKNOWN]: And I think still feel so disconnected from it from my point of view.
- 1:09:11[UNKNOWN]: I think that there is something there through replays, through really paying attention, that there is a relationship there that I think is really intimate.
- 1:09:21[UNKNOWN]: And I think that the facts can't explain what the team means to the person who played it because the relationship is produced by all of these things that you recognize
- 1:09:35[UNKNOWN]: It's the same reason why does see your married.
- 1:09:38[UNKNOWN]: I'm married.
- 1:09:39[UNKNOWN]: I don't know about hoops.
- 1:09:39[UNKNOWN]: I don't know if hoops put a hoop on a finger.
- 1:09:41[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah.
- 1:09:42[UNKNOWN]: But there's a, okay, oh, there you go.
- 1:09:44[UNKNOWN]: So it's like, well, this can you at my wedding, it was like there was this almost expectation to talk about my relationship in a way that was like, I fully understood it.
- 1:09:54[UNKNOWN]: I understand why we work to how we got together.
- 1:09:57[UNKNOWN]: But the truth is is that I don't know.
- 1:09:59[UNKNOWN]: And that's part of it.
- 1:10:00[UNKNOWN]: It's like, if I can do my best,
- 1:10:03[UNKNOWN]: to maybe articulate it.
- 1:10:06[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and I'm like, I can maybe give the evidence that I do such out meaning, but I will never fully understand even myself, that private history that happened between me and, you know, and can I, could I even really say, like, why my wife loves me?
- 1:10:22[UNKNOWN]: And even if you didn't know, which we even want to share that with your relatives that are pretty annoying.
- 1:10:26[UNKNOWN]: It's an interesting thing.
- 1:10:27[UNKNOWN]: It's a, so there's, yeah, I think that there's,
- 1:10:30[UNKNOWN]: this, I think that there's this attachment in this game that I'm able to form and and really feel that exists, that kind of resists my ability to even say why.
- 1:10:41[UNKNOWN]: Because if I was a kid and I caught a Pokemon that had bite and then I went to this lavender town and I, and I was just using it a bunch and you could just sweep through the entire, I don't think I had the brain power to tell you that they put that there.
- 1:10:55[UNKNOWN]: So that I would have that experience.
- 1:10:57[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and it's like, and then put then the thing is just that maybe you just did it.
- 1:10:59[UNKNOWN]: Maybe you didn't have that experience.
- 1:11:01[UNKNOWN]: Maybe you ignored it.
- 1:11:02[UNKNOWN]: And now you have a different relationship to valent lavender town than I did or that Pokemon, right?
- 1:11:06[UNKNOWN]: This is this is kind of going back to like the wins and waves conversation.
- 1:11:09[UNKNOWN]: It's like that Pokemon having that one random trait could actually make that one Pokemon your all-time favorite 20 years later and did you choose it?
- 1:11:16[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I also think there's like this kind of like I got a text from my wife.
- 1:11:20[UNKNOWN]: So I know the answer now.
- 1:11:21[UNKNOWN]: I said oh, do I even really know why why my wife loves me and she just texted me and she said Because of your cute butt
- 1:11:30[UNKNOWN]: Wait, you said no, she's that's why you love her.
- 1:11:33[UNKNOWN]: No, she said why do I said why does my let my wife love my wife love me Yeah, let us know.
- 1:11:38[UNKNOWN]: Does that does that hold up is this why you like Jake is it is a guest on the podcast?
- 1:11:42[UNKNOWN]: Should I you can do it do a little spin no, no, I couldn't know a little spin
- 1:11:48[UNKNOWN]: No, no, blur this out.
- 1:11:49[UNKNOWN]: This is going to go on the page for you.
- 1:11:51[UNKNOWN]: That's one on the page for you.
- 1:11:52[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:11:53[UNKNOWN]: That's for my wife.
- 1:11:54[UNKNOWN]: I think I think I really think there's a deeper thing here where it's like, what you're describing, Jake, I think everyone actually feels this in experiences this when they're playing through a Pokemon game or really any game, but let's take with Pokemon, except I think the language that we're given and this, you know, to use your turn to the calcified opinion is it's like, I think we're all
- 1:12:17[UNKNOWN]: conditioned to pay attention to the math to pay attention to the optimized Pokemon that we should use, but in all reality, it's like, I don't know, I feel like it's almost like the guilty pleasure thing.
- 1:12:28[UNKNOWN]: I feel like people like one of rejectors, they're like embarrassed by like what their favorites are, you know, everyone's got their favorite everyone's going to say like, Oh, be drills my favorite.
- 1:12:36[UNKNOWN]: I don't know why.
- 1:12:36[UNKNOWN]: Oh, horses, if everyone is going to say be drills my or whatever Pokemon, right, it's like you're going to say like, like you're going to have your favorites,
- 1:12:47[UNKNOWN]: I just I feel like what I see so often is like here's how to optimize your route here's how to optimize your play through right but secretly like Like publicly that's how that's all that's that is how we all talk about these Pokemon games, but secretly right even
- 1:13:03[UNKNOWN]: You know, we're all actually wanting to just relive or experience these like private intimate moments that you can't actually explain why it's amazing to run through the game with the beach rail or whatever Pokemon and I actually think even publicly.
- 1:13:18[UNKNOWN]: Some of the sentiment, there's like personalized sentiment and relationship that we have with these games.
- 1:13:23[UNKNOWN]: I think it actually is public in certain niches of the Pokemon space.
- 1:13:27[UNKNOWN]: I think about ribbon master questions or whatever that is called, shiny hunters.
- 1:13:32[UNKNOWN]: People who like to collect Pokemon or like set certain rules for themselves, right?
- 1:13:37[UNKNOWN]: These like collector types, like,
- 1:13:40[UNKNOWN]: I think there is like an intimate relationship that they have that is like personal to their own experience.
- 1:13:44[UNKNOWN]: They have head cannons, right?
- 1:13:45[UNKNOWN]: They have like, they have like, you know, they're their Pokemon, are their own, like every Pokemon that they capture on their team is like a character in their own mind, right?
- 1:13:55[UNKNOWN]: And I feel like a lot of people do play through these games like this, except the, I feel like we're just not encouraged to talk about it in that way.
- 1:14:04[UNKNOWN]: Does that make sense?
- 1:14:05[UNKNOWN]: Does that, what are you thinking about the hoops?
- 1:14:08[UNKNOWN]: Can you say that again like I don't know just I feel like the you I feel like what I see on YouTube videos and like what like in my comments if I make a video and I'm like I love this random like oh I'm playing through the game with the kind of on X I feel like the response is always like why would you do that use a word.
- 1:14:23[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:14:24[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, here's here's what I'll say here's what I'll say.
- 1:14:26[UNKNOWN]: Okay, so
- 1:14:29[UNKNOWN]: Pokemon is kind of beautiful.
- 1:14:31[UNKNOWN]: I love how Phil softical we're getting.
- 1:14:33[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah, here we go.
- 1:14:34[UNKNOWN]: Pokemon is kind of beautiful in the sense that there's literally thousands of Pokemon.
- 1:14:38[UNKNOWN]: So it's kind of like we can individualize our experience to the point where it's like reflective of us as people.
- 1:14:47[UNKNOWN]: So people might look at you and think, why would you do that?
- 1:14:52[UNKNOWN]: Why would you use an on-ex when you could use a ride on?
- 1:14:55[UNKNOWN]: But what they can't see, because they're looking at it from like you said, like type effectiveness, strength.
- 1:15:01[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:15:01[UNKNOWN]: But what they don't see is the fact that you, when you were a little kid, you really liked, you liked collecting rocks and you liked being out in the garden.
- 1:15:13[UNKNOWN]: You don't need to guard it.
- 1:15:13[UNKNOWN]: You don't need to tell everyone that I told you that in confidence.
- 1:15:18[UNKNOWN]: You like you like being out in the garden and you like this is why like you like this experience that made you like appeal to Onix for whatever reason and so now you're getting to use this Pokemon
- 1:15:34[UNKNOWN]: that you uniquely identify with and like it's helping like you're able to like also figure out a way even if it's not like the strongest Pokemon ever to actually make it work and so now this is an immensely satisfying experience for you because it's individually like relatable and it's also one of like it's it's rewarding.
- 1:15:54[UNKNOWN]: And so yeah, people might not understand that, but they're never going to understand that because they're not you.
- 1:15:59[UNKNOWN]: And the thing that's so cool about Pokemon is you can find a Pokemon that is you, that you identify with, that's relatable to you, and that you can go on an adventure with as your best buddy.
- 1:16:08[UNKNOWN]: Like, it's not just this collection of pixels or data or whatever.
- 1:16:12[UNKNOWN]: Like, it's something you can like uniquely identify with.
- 1:16:15[UNKNOWN]: And that's like, it's a core memory Pokemon.
- 1:16:18[UNKNOWN]: Oh, 100%.
- 1:16:19[UNKNOWN]: I actually am also thinking like, I don't even know how to frame all this,
- 1:16:24[UNKNOWN]: Like, I don't know.
- 1:16:25[UNKNOWN]: I feel like even with like what I often hear is that like, when we think about our favorite games period, even like Zelda, let's say, Ocarina of Time, everyone's like sharing their nostalgic stories, right?
- 1:16:37[UNKNOWN]: Their relationship with Ocarina of Time.
- 1:16:39[UNKNOWN]: It's usually, you get me started.
- 1:16:41[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and I think I'm thinking about this because Jay, you'll say, okay, you love this game because of the experience you had with it, like,
- 1:16:48[UNKNOWN]: Like the context of when you played this game with the relative or what the cousin I had that experience like I played Ocarina time with my cousin.
- 1:16:56[UNKNOWN]: He's like three months older than me.
- 1:16:59[UNKNOWN]: You know, he's my brother That was my brother, right?
- 1:17:01[UNKNOWN]: And we would play the game only when we were together and that's so special And those like fragmented memories are there forever and so that's my relationship with Ocarina time If I gotta be completely honest, but I still think that's like
- 1:17:14[UNKNOWN]: I guess there is something different here.
- 1:17:15[UNKNOWN]: I guess it's like almost too full.
- 1:17:16[UNKNOWN]: That's like that's special.
- 1:17:18[UNKNOWN]: But then also within Pokemon, because Pokemon is like infinitely playable because every player there was gonna be different unlike offering of time where it's like you have to do things in a series of operations, right?
- 1:17:30[UNKNOWN]: In Pokemon, it's like those personal memories can be kind of like reapplied or maybe they like manifest within the game through the Pokemon that you use.
- 1:17:39[UNKNOWN]: So I guess I'm trying to, and it's just, I don't really know what the point is.
- 1:17:42[UNKNOWN]: I'm trying to make to, to gush on this even more, like you can, Pokemon is, is unique in that sense because you can have a different experience every time, like you are playing the same narrative, but you can totally different experience.
- 1:17:55[UNKNOWN]: So dusty can catch an onix as a kid and have that cool experience because as a kid, he identifies with onix, but then he can play the same game later on
- 1:18:08[UNKNOWN]: And now he's got to correct your drag instead of one.
- 1:18:11[UNKNOWN]: So he's like, no, I'm just tangle us.
- 1:18:14[UNKNOWN]: No, I loved I loved I loved you.
- 1:18:16[UNKNOWN]: So you divine Pokemon.
- 1:18:17[UNKNOWN]: But it's like you can like have these like you can play the game multiple times and then have like completely different experiences and enjoy those playthroughs immensely for completely different reasons because of the team that you catch because of why you catch them because of like where you're at in your life that motivated you to like use this Pokemon or whatever.
- 1:18:38[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it can all be a different core memory every single time.
- 1:18:42[UNKNOWN]: Absolutely.
- 1:18:45[UNKNOWN]: All right.
- 1:18:45[UNKNOWN]: Well, we do, we still do in a bracket.
- 1:18:47[UNKNOWN]: I guess, I guess I want to say Fire Red Leaf Green is better than champions because champions to me is a bunch of numbers.
- 1:18:53[UNKNOWN]: And it's a simulator.
- 1:18:54[UNKNOWN]: What do you think?
- 1:18:55[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah, really quick.
- 1:18:57[UNKNOWN]: Champions.
- 1:18:58[UNKNOWN]: No, you're not allowed to talk about champions on this podcast.
- 1:18:59[UNKNOWN]: I think the last time you were on this podcast is when we were talking about champions.
- 1:19:03[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, probably.
- 1:19:04[UNKNOWN]: And then I was banned.
- 1:19:05[UNKNOWN]: I got a year-long ban.
- 1:19:06[UNKNOWN]: I had to wait out.
- 1:19:07[UNKNOWN]: And then we deleted a bunch of videos from YouTube because of the content.
- 1:19:10[UNKNOWN]: To put it succinctly to put it succinctly for me.
- 1:19:13[UNKNOWN]: Oh, wait.
- 1:19:13[UNKNOWN]: Please fire edlet green over champions because
- 1:19:18[UNKNOWN]: firedly green provides the adventure and that's what I'm yeah that's what I'm in Pokemon for is the adventure like like there's there's the there's the line in the first episode of the anime that like every time I listen to it I get choked up but basically the narrator is like he's talking about ash and he's like
- 1:19:35[UNKNOWN]: he's going to go yeah he's going to adventure and he's going to he's going to encounter perilous foes and countless friends and he's going to do all this in the wonderful world of Pokemon and I get chills just saying it because it's like that's what Pokemon is about the adventure into the world and that's what Fire Ed Leaf Green gives you and champions.
- 1:19:53[UNKNOWN]: It's got its value for sure, but it's good at all of that.
- 1:19:56[UNKNOWN]: It's just the battles.
- 1:19:57[UNKNOWN]: It's just, it's not, there's no substance.
- 1:20:00[UNKNOWN]: It's just the, it's the, it's kind of like, like, I don't want to say soulless.
- 1:20:05[UNKNOWN]: That's strong.
- 1:20:06[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, you know what, here's an, I want to agree with everything that you're saying.
- 1:20:09[UNKNOWN]: All right, all right.
- 1:20:10[UNKNOWN]: Is it?
- 1:20:10[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I want to agree with everything, but I'm also like, but you can steal all you can still make experiences with champions playing with people online and the same way that we made experiences with GA playing online like I don't want to take that away from anyone because that that is true, but I think in terms of celebration of this franchise champions could have done so many things to celebrate all the different modes of play.
- 1:20:33[UNKNOWN]: Right, that have been existing in this franchise for the last 30 years and instead, you know, all we have to say is, well, it's a, it's a live service game, so they could change it in the future.
- 1:20:43[UNKNOWN]: That's the defense.
- 1:20:44[UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
- 1:20:45[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I don't need to talk about what champions could be what it theoretically is what it is to people out there.
- 1:20:52[UNKNOWN]: We don't need to talk about any of this because you know, we have we have the video game Pokemon champions.
- 1:20:56[UNKNOWN]: We have it.
- 1:20:57[UNKNOWN]: I know exactly what it is and I've played it.
- 1:20:59[UNKNOWN]: Let me tell you a little bit about Pokemon Champion.
- 1:21:00[UNKNOWN]: I can't believe I can't believe that they somehow they said, oh hey everybody this is our this are battle simulator.
- 1:21:05[UNKNOWN]: We're going to use it at Pokemon worlds and then I turn on Pokemon worlds.
- 1:21:09[UNKNOWN]: Jesus Christ this shit looks so boring.
- 1:21:10[UNKNOWN]: Oh my god.
- 1:21:11[UNKNOWN]: I can't believe they they they said, we're going to we're going to have an Nintendo Switch 1 app in in the year.
- 1:21:17[UNKNOWN]: So that's the first time we're using it.
- 1:21:19[UNKNOWN]: We're like, oh my god, brother.
- 1:21:21[UNKNOWN]: It is it is it has no juice It is all loose.
- 1:21:24[UNKNOWN]: Let's talk about the live service thing.
- 1:21:26[UNKNOWN]: What's up with the live service thing for a second live service games I love live service games.
- 1:21:29[UNKNOWN]: I'm not here playing all of them I'm I'm sometimes people in the gaming world they get mad at me because I like live service games a little you do much
- 1:21:35[UNKNOWN]: And yeah, I'm sort of in the shit up.
- 1:21:38[UNKNOWN]: I'm not here playing Fortnite in my my Kingdom Hearts outfits.
- 1:21:40[UNKNOWN]: I don't care.
- 1:21:40[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and and listen Book more champions Book more champions is not a good live service game the season to season things that they're adding to the game are our our dumb They're boring the the break it down for me because I don't I don't I don't know how to compare it to anything else
- 1:21:58[UNKNOWN]: Like what yeah, break down break down.
- 1:22:01[UNKNOWN]: So a key part of any live service game is that it launches for free And then things that they offer you to spend your money on are typically things that don't affect the gameplay cosmetics for example Yeah, so if you look at like Pokemon unite, what can you buy you can buy a silly outfit for your gang?
- 1:22:17[UNKNOWN]: I don't know you can it like it's that's that's what what these things are for the cause of medics in Pokemon champions
- 1:22:24[UNKNOWN]: Dogwater, absolutely terrible.
- 1:22:26[UNKNOWN]: Nothing anybody would ever want to spend money on.
- 1:22:29[UNKNOWN]: And I want to spend money on this game.
- 1:22:30[UNKNOWN]: I want to get attached to it.
- 1:22:32[UNKNOWN]: But there's nothing there for me to get attached to.
- 1:22:34[UNKNOWN]: Everything that's cool about Pokemon Champions is imported from a game that you can already play.
- 1:22:39[UNKNOWN]: So I don't, I don't appreciate these reviews of this game that are like, well, Pokemon are there and the buttons work.
- 1:22:44[UNKNOWN]: Because that's how it sounds like to me.
- 1:22:46[UNKNOWN]: That's what it sounds like when people are complimenting Pokemon Champions.
- 1:22:49[UNKNOWN]: It's well, I got my Charizard in there in the same way that I can't in a game that I already own and I had fun in the battle I had fun Jake you can't deny my fun and you're like we made it to a ridiculous section I agree with you completely all responses are valid all responses are valid obviously I'm not trying to say that people didn't have fun and Pokemon champions that they told them themselves I'm not trying to say that but our all our all responses important
- 1:23:11[UNKNOWN]: Is there a difference?
- 1:23:12[UNKNOWN]: Is there a difference between a response and a reaction and criticism?
- 1:23:16[UNKNOWN]: Yes, I think that there is.
- 1:23:18[UNKNOWN]: You can have a positive response.
- 1:23:19[UNKNOWN]: You can have a positive reaction, but that does not mean that you are performing a critical evaluation of the thing in front of you.
- 1:23:24[UNKNOWN]: And I think that the thing in front of me,
- 1:23:27[UNKNOWN]: there is just nothing there that is even a little bit compelling when I play a fighting game online and i'm like going up the ladder or i'm doing my season challenges and fortnight whatever it is there's all these like parrots on sticks there's all these little rewards to reengage me as i
- 1:23:45[UNKNOWN]: That's actually completely separate right because it's like with those are just things that you buy But they're like little they're like little quests that you do right and in Pokemon champions There's like there's those like little weekly quests that you get or whatever Are they engaging at all?
- 1:23:57[UNKNOWN]: Absolutely not do they just happen by just playing the game automatically?
- 1:24:00[UNKNOWN]: Yes, there's nothing there There is no there is there is the substance is just so, so, so lacking and I think sometimes Pokemon fans are unfairly criticized for just accepting anything in front of them and I think that that's not fair
- 1:24:13[UNKNOWN]: When there was that whole controversy about the Windows and ZIA, I thought that was some of the dumbest discourse I've ever seen in my life.
- 1:24:19[UNKNOWN]: I don't even want to talk about it.
- 1:24:20[UNKNOWN]: But then this is why Jake wasn't on the podcast for two years.
- 1:24:25[UNKNOWN]: But then in the lead-up to this game coming out, the way that people just completely projected their dreams of what they wanted this game to be.
- 1:24:34[UNKNOWN]: Was so insane to me, and then when it does come out, and now even talking about this game now, all people ever do is apologize for this game.
- 1:24:41[UNKNOWN]: It's like, it's four, and then they make up a group of people that it's four, and it's like, Oh, would you this is four of the VGC people, even though all of the ads for the game tell you that it's about bringing Pokemon battling to everyone, don't ignore that.
- 1:24:53[UNKNOWN]: It's four of the VGC people, and it's like, OK, is there an app that you could have made for the VGC people that is better than the one that we have?
- 1:25:00[UNKNOWN]: Yes, there is there.
- 1:25:01[UNKNOWN]: Like, could you satisfy that, but also it be a more compelling product on its own?
- 1:25:06[UNKNOWN]: I think so.
- 1:25:08[UNKNOWN]: I'm sorry.
- 1:25:08[UNKNOWN]: When I look at Pokemon champions, all I see is an entire game made that you could get downloaded and make money off of in foreign markets, where the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2 is a harder to reach entity.
- 1:25:23[UNKNOWN]: That is all I see when I look at this game.
- 1:25:25[UNKNOWN]: And, and I think, AJ, who've got on the podcast before, press resort, I think that he kind of hit the nail on the head when he called this game the Pokemon battling retirement home.
- 1:25:36[UNKNOWN]: I think that's one of the most true, true things I've ever heard about this game.
- 1:25:39[UNKNOWN]: And I can't wait for Wins and Waves to come out so that we can get away from this dukey, dukey, miserable experience.
- 1:25:45[UNKNOWN]: Whoops, you're a bottle.
- 1:25:46[UNKNOWN]: I don't have a bottle.
- 1:25:50[UNKNOWN]: I just, I think, uh,
- 1:25:53[UNKNOWN]: It's more of a reaffirmation because what Jake is saying in this, what he's saying in the sense that if you like this game, if you have fun in this game, sure, like no one's trying to take it by your fun.
- 1:26:10[UNKNOWN]: if I get into Pokemon champions and I have a battle with mega chest not and garrados like your screen shot you just had a lot of mega chest not like I can go to Pokemon champions and I can have a battle with mega chest not and that could be a fun battle and that's all well and good but in Pokemon legends EA I can have a battle with mega chest not and I can also explore Lumio City I can do side quests for characters
- 1:26:39[UNKNOWN]: experience a story like I can do so much more and also the battles yeah and Pokemon Champion is is just the battles and that's like the difference maker for me is it's yeah the Pokemon experience sort of just chopped up into one little slice it's basically like if you had a pizza and you have a pizza that has pepperoni and all the toppings and
- 1:27:07[UNKNOWN]: And then champions is a single pepperoni.
- 1:27:09[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, bro.
- 1:27:11[UNKNOWN]: Oh, that's funny.
- 1:27:11[UNKNOWN]: I think champions is a picture of a pizza.
- 1:27:16[UNKNOWN]: Like it's pizza.
- 1:27:17[UNKNOWN]: You love pizza.
- 1:27:19[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, this is only.
- 1:27:19[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:27:21[UNKNOWN]: That's funny.
- 1:27:21[UNKNOWN]: That's funny.
- 1:27:23[UNKNOWN]: Wait, I can't just say what we're thinking part of a part of a day like about a live service game is the fact that it's like constantly transforming right before your eyes Yeah, I played the first two seasons of champions, and then I was like, okay, I can't do this anymore.
- 1:27:33[UNKNOWN]: It's so boring and The meta is so stagnant in that game when I watched the most recent Pokemon worlds I couldn't believe that the teams it was it was the same stuff that I was playing against when I played the game It's just a Pokemon still.
- 1:27:47[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, what are they doing?
- 1:27:53[UNKNOWN]: It has just produced for me as a viewer for somebody who like I streamed Pokemon champions.
- 1:28:00[UNKNOWN]: I had fun.
- 1:28:00[UNKNOWN]: I got all the way up to Masterball Rank.
- 1:28:01[UNKNOWN]: I was out there with my Mega Chestnut and it was great.
- 1:28:06[UNKNOWN]: And I just want there to be
- 1:28:09[UNKNOWN]: ideas.
- 1:28:11[UNKNOWN]: I want there to be like something that makes me look at like competitive Pokemon battling differently or see it in a new light.
- 1:28:18[UNKNOWN]: And I feel like Pokemon champions is like no ideas actually, no ideas.
- 1:28:22[UNKNOWN]: I just matter of fact, let's do fewer ideas than we have in the game that you can play right now.
- 1:28:26[UNKNOWN]: You're right, man.
- 1:28:28[UNKNOWN]: It's just with holding.
- 1:28:29[UNKNOWN]: It's in waves, wins and waves could absolutely change all those things that you would wish for Pokemon Battles wins and waves could offer that.
- 1:28:38[UNKNOWN]: Champions comes out as like the side project, but you're right, it doesn't even do what the mainline games offer.
- 1:28:44[UNKNOWN]: It's a fraction of one feature.
- 1:28:48[UNKNOWN]: Right, it's like if yeah, that's crazy.
- 1:28:50[UNKNOWN]: It literally is it's less than just an isolated experience It's an even I don't know dude, and I just I hate this argument that's like what the VGC people use it.
- 1:28:59[UNKNOWN]: I'm like guys You but they were using the main line games.
- 1:29:02[UNKNOWN]: They would use anything
- 1:29:04[UNKNOWN]: anything.
- 1:29:04[UNKNOWN]: They would use it.
- 1:29:05[UNKNOWN]: They would use it.
- 1:29:06[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:29:07[UNKNOWN]: Moxy boosted if I watch and come back on the pod.
- 1:29:10[UNKNOWN]: I think it is fine though for a game to exist that specifically like for competitive.
- 1:29:16[UNKNOWN]: I think the problem though to use the to use my analogy once again is that like.
- 1:29:21[UNKNOWN]: It champions is a single pepperoni and it's not even like the good quality pepperoni from like the Italian delir whatever like it's done It's got no seasoning.
- 1:29:31[UNKNOWN]: It's it's it's Walmart pepperoni.
- 1:29:33[UNKNOWN]: Yes, dude and if it was if it was the fancy Italian Nobody's all the season seasonings and stuff then we would be okay because it's like okay Well, I don't have my pizza, but this is some fire pepperoni
- 1:29:45[UNKNOWN]: Instead of giving me the Walmart pepperoni, I do I completely agree and you know what if Pokemon champions came out and there was a button that I could press And if I could press that button and instead of seeing the 3D battles in the stupid arena with the LED four It turned it into like it looked like a GBA game
- 1:30:00[UNKNOWN]: Dude, that's literally, man, I would go, I would go great, you did it, you offered something, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia, you had my Gia,
- 1:30:18[UNKNOWN]: was was a blast.
- 1:30:19[UNKNOWN]: The idea that like we would truly have a Pokemon hub for battling where all possibilities are there for you.
- 1:30:25[UNKNOWN]: Maybe not everything is in ranked.
- 1:30:27[UNKNOWN]: That's like a common pushback that I get.
- 1:30:29[UNKNOWN]: It's like, well, you can't have everything in the game because then it'll be an unbalanced meta game and I'm like, yeah, but those things could be available to just like regular players offline even, right?
- 1:30:39[UNKNOWN]: It stripped of everything.
- 1:30:40[UNKNOWN]: Dude, that what you just say is what I want of the most.
- 1:30:43[UNKNOWN]: I'm like, listen, if all competitive is going to be just in whatever the new game is, then like, let me play.
- 1:30:50[UNKNOWN]: Let me do what showdown does.
- 1:30:51[UNKNOWN]: Let me play in the Gen 2 meta.
- 1:30:54[UNKNOWN]: Right.
- 1:30:54[UNKNOWN]: Let me address something too that you said because like this this idea that I need to be put in conversation with somebody who like is in the VGC or has like a YouTube channel about VGC like that I am not in conversation with them.
- 1:31:08[UNKNOWN]: I'm representing me and I think it's weird sometimes the way that the internet is like actually you have to validate every single response to every single thing.
- 1:31:16[UNKNOWN]: It's like, no, I don't.
- 1:31:18[UNKNOWN]: If I think the game's a two out of 10, but it's, was you rather I said, seven out of 10, not for me, or was you rather I actually expressed my perspective?
- 1:31:27[UNKNOWN]: Was you, like, I'm interested in me, and I'm trying to represent my perspective.
- 1:31:32[UNKNOWN]: So I'm not, I'm not gonna play this game, where it's like every single thing is just like, well, somebody, somebody likes this.
- 1:31:37[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:31:38[UNKNOWN]: You know, it's like, I'm not interested in you.
- 1:31:40[UNKNOWN]: That's so boring, that's so boring.
- 1:31:42[UNKNOWN]: All right, let's,
- 1:31:44[UNKNOWN]: Let's wrap this thing up, or at least let's progress.
- 1:31:47[UNKNOWN]: I think we're about halfway through.
- 1:31:48[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to give, okay, fire and Lydia, we've already talked about all the games.
- 1:31:53[UNKNOWN]: So it's like, oh, no, that's not true.
- 1:31:54[UNKNOWN]: We still have, we still have one more thing I guess to talk about, but so, it'll, it'll, it'll, it'll go a little quicker.
- 1:31:58[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:32:01[UNKNOWN]: Next, we've got the DLC for Mega Dimension, the DLC for ZEA, which is the Mega Dimension, and then Pokemon Pocoopia.
- 1:32:08[UNKNOWN]: And I did want to include Mega Dimension as a separate item here, because I do think the gameplay is a lot different, or maybe not the gameplay.
- 1:32:16[UNKNOWN]: I think maybe the gameplay.
- 1:32:17[UNKNOWN]: I think...
- 1:32:19[UNKNOWN]: I think megadimension kind of has a similar issue.
- 1:32:22[UNKNOWN]: I feel like it got a lot of negative, you know, I got a negative reception for a lot of the same reasons, I believe that ultrasound and ultramune got being released so close to the original sun and moon.
- 1:32:35[UNKNOWN]: I think the gameplay of megadimension is similar to ZA, but it's like because it came out like a month later or whatever it was.
- 1:32:41[UNKNOWN]: I don't think people had time to like put ZA down and then come back to it in the DLC.
- 1:32:46[UNKNOWN]: I think people were kind of just like,
- 1:32:48[UNKNOWN]: ready to put the whole game down.
- 1:32:49[UNKNOWN]: And I think megadimension kind of just gets lumped into ZEA altogether when the, I don't know, the content feels very different.
- 1:32:59[UNKNOWN]: But, and then Pobobie is go to it.
- 1:33:01[UNKNOWN]: But, yeah, what do you guys think?
- 1:33:03[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, this is kind of a weird matchup, because it's a very, two very different things and two very different receptions to those things as well.
- 1:33:13[UNKNOWN]: With MegaDimension though, it's an interesting point you bring up because the DLC came out two months after the game came out.
- 1:33:21[UNKNOWN]: And if you think about like, like, for us, that's probably not too crazy because we're like, we're the type of people that finish the game in a week or a weekend or whatever.
- 1:33:30[UNKNOWN]: But like, for normal people, they probably have barely finished the game two months in.
- 1:33:35[UNKNOWN]: And then it's like, to your point, the DLC immediately comes out and it's like, oh, I want to play the DLC and now it's out.
- 1:33:41[UNKNOWN]: So I guess I'm going to play it.
- 1:33:42[UNKNOWN]: Well, now it's like, you're by the time you finish mega dimension or get,
- 1:33:47[UNKNOWN]: even halfway through it, you're probably like three months straight of just playing this game.
- 1:33:52[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:33:53[UNKNOWN]: And yeah, there's probably going to be a little bit of fatigue there, because you've just been grinding and the and grinding is kind of the operative word, because that's like the thing that people have a critique on with the DLC is this.
- 1:34:07[UNKNOWN]: But that's the game.
- 1:34:08[UNKNOWN]: You're just doing the same thing over and over and then it's like you have to earn like a million points to be able to progress.
- 1:34:13[UNKNOWN]: I find this this is honestly it does confuse me because it's like I feel like it's Pokemon fans that it isn't that what that's what Pokemon is people on one hand will say grinding sucks and it's horrible and it's A problem but I'm like Isn't that what Pokemon is completing the decks catching them all the issue battling everyone content content content content that is all grinding it's just see it yeah you're 100% right, but I think I think something to recognize is that
- 1:34:38[UNKNOWN]: The game does not do a good enough job of creating the illusion that you are not grinding it puts it puts a goal in front of you and it says you need to do this this many times and get this many points before you can progress.
- 1:34:55[UNKNOWN]: So you're right, even that was it.
- 1:34:57[UNKNOWN]: Wait.
- 1:34:58[UNKNOWN]: And the thing is, is that, like, if you were just playing the game and you were moving in a linear path and you were, the DLC was structured differently, was your game play be any different, maybe not, maybe it'd be exactly the same, but you wouldn't identify it as grinding in the same way.
- 1:35:11[UNKNOWN]: And it's not your turn.
- 1:35:12[UNKNOWN]: I'm thinking how it's presented to you, yeah.
- 1:35:14[UNKNOWN]: I'm thinking, like, okay, in order to level up your charge card, you have to, sorry, in order to evolve Charmander, let's say, right?
- 1:35:24[UNKNOWN]: The game says you have to get 100,000 experience points right rather than it being all broken up like that would be so daunting and I'd be like this is so stupid.
- 1:35:35[UNKNOWN]: I hate this right because it's levels and it's broken up and it's it's seen as like more they put the goal out in front of you right instead of instead of it being like the chunks or whatever it's that but I think
- 1:35:46[UNKNOWN]: I think for me, the thing that's tough about the Mega Dimension DLC, high highs, low lows.
- 1:35:51[UNKNOWN]: Um, the low lows, the making the donuts, kill me, really don't like that.
- 1:35:56[UNKNOWN]: I didn't hate the donuts.
- 1:35:57[UNKNOWN]: So here's the thing.
- 1:35:58[UNKNOWN]: The idea of it is great.
- 1:35:59[UNKNOWN]: It's an idea taken from a lot of a rogue like or rogue like games.
- 1:36:03[UNKNOWN]: The idea that you have a specific build and you're going into like do a run that is controlled by this donut.
- 1:36:10[UNKNOWN]: So you go to the donut and you say I'm going to increase these stats.
- 1:36:12[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to get this bonus.
- 1:36:13[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to have this and it's going to help me in this particular battle.
- 1:36:16[UNKNOWN]: The problem with the donuts is I don't think any of that matters.
- 1:36:19[UNKNOWN]: I think the only thing that matters about the donut is that you are the appropriate power level.
- 1:36:23[UNKNOWN]: So that you just beat everything that's in front of you.
- 1:36:25[UNKNOWN]: It's there's no nuance to it.
- 1:36:27[UNKNOWN]: It's very just like.
- 1:36:29[UNKNOWN]: You press the button to make the thing you go you do it whereas like maybe a more interesting game would have different like this is the problem with the mega dimension dlc I think is that they're needed to be rules for these mega dimensions that are actually differentiating your gameplay style So if I went into one and it says hey in this dimension you can only use ghost type Pokemon
- 1:36:51[UNKNOWN]: Whoa, okay, so now I got it.
- 1:36:53[UNKNOWN]: I got it.
- 1:36:54[UNKNOWN]: So now that's interesting right and I can go back to that and I can say, okay, I've got the right team I'm going to go do this.
- 1:36:58[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to use my doughnut and it's going to make them that goes to a Pokemon that I all just caught.
- 1:37:02[UNKNOWN]: It's going to make them all powerful enough to do this challenge.
- 1:37:04[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, the way that it is now
- 1:37:06[UNKNOWN]: It's just this it's it's functionally the same you're just functionally doing the same.
- 1:37:10[UNKNOWN]: It's not different enough.
- 1:37:12[UNKNOWN]: So I think they dropped the ball there second low point any time a character talks tell me just just dear God on Oncha oncha this to me.
- 1:37:20[UNKNOWN]: So it's good story dude.
- 1:37:22[UNKNOWN]: This to be is the most appealing to the worst part of the Pokemon fandom They give you this character oncha who is very clearly related to I'm gonna say he's we're beyond the the ant the dance
- 1:37:33[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, right and and they go look isn't it interesting that she's related to this character This is why Jake has been on the podcast in two years, and then they don't do it And then then what they do with it is just like it's just to me Painful absolutely painful anytime.
- 1:37:47[UNKNOWN]: I'm not the team with these with these these the legends See a party and they're all just looking at each other agreeing nodding in a circle.
- 1:37:53[UNKNOWN]: I'm just I want to die But
- 1:37:56[UNKNOWN]: See, I felt bad.
- 1:37:57[UNKNOWN]: I was thinking about you every time I skipped through the dialogue, I was like, Jake would say you got a read more Liam.
- 1:38:02[UNKNOWN]: Not in this one.
- 1:38:03[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that makes me feel better.
- 1:38:04[UNKNOWN]: I feel relieved.
- 1:38:06[UNKNOWN]: But here's the alternative side.
- 1:38:08[UNKNOWN]: There's a lot of, and this kind of gets glossed over, because it's not a big ticket item in the marketing.
- 1:38:12[UNKNOWN]: A lot of side missions are added in this.
- 1:38:16[UNKNOWN]: and they cooked with those.
- 1:38:17[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:38:18[UNKNOWN]: And they cooked with the lore expansion.
- 1:38:20[UNKNOWN]: So, unfortunately, there's like, and is it fun to just add a bunch of new Pokemon to this game and then you go out into these stupid things and you're fine with them.
- 1:38:30[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:38:30[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's fun.
- 1:38:31[UNKNOWN]: Like, I'm not a hater.
- 1:38:32[UNKNOWN]: I'm not going to poo poo that.
- 1:38:33[UNKNOWN]: Is it kind of like a...
- 1:38:36[UNKNOWN]: a silly contrivence to be like, oh yeah, there's places on the map, go in, there's Pokemon there, whatever, like, yeah, that's not that good.
- 1:38:44[UNKNOWN]: It's like, there's, I think what's tough for me is that I love rogue light games.
- 1:38:48[UNKNOWN]: I love rogue light games.
- 1:38:49[UNKNOWN]: We're getting lucky.
- 1:38:50[UNKNOWN]: Listen up listeners.
- 1:38:51[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:38:51[UNKNOWN]: And there is so the Pokemon.
- 1:38:55[UNKNOWN]: could have so much going on with that kind of formulation of gameplay structure.
- 1:39:01[UNKNOWN]: And they just botched it.
- 1:39:03[UNKNOWN]: They just completely misunderstand, I think, like what is fun and attractive about rogue-like games?
- 1:39:09[UNKNOWN]: Could you imagine if they put me in a mega-dimension zone I go in?
- 1:39:13[UNKNOWN]: And it turns all of my team down to level one.
- 1:39:16[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:39:17[UNKNOWN]: Wait a second.
- 1:39:18[UNKNOWN]: That's interesting.
- 1:39:19[UNKNOWN]: And that kind of remixes the way that I have to.
- 1:39:21[UNKNOWN]: There wasn't a time right now.
- 1:39:23[UNKNOWN]: You have to like, yeah, I know what you're saying.
- 1:39:24[UNKNOWN]: And maybe there's like, there's a specific goal.
- 1:39:26[UNKNOWN]: Is that I've got to get through this map.
- 1:39:28[UNKNOWN]: And at the end, there's a boss.
- 1:39:29[UNKNOWN]: So I'm like choosing which Pokemon I'm going to use to level them up.
- 1:39:32[UNKNOWN]: So that when I fight the boss, it's like, I had to.
- 1:39:35[UNKNOWN]: It's kind of like, it's like a scaled-down version of the entire Pokemon journey that you would typically go on.
- 1:39:40[UNKNOWN]: That's a lot of fun.
- 1:39:41[UNKNOWN]: you pick a starter like they could take that would be super fun if this game you go into a mega dimension and your team is wiped and it basically would simulate what all of those challenge what those randomized challenge runs do on YouTube where you pick a set of three random starters how fun with that be you pick the three starters one of the three then you get another one you level up and if you survive you get another Pokemon the nae of three Pokemon to fight the boss with and collecting items they did that in the
- 1:40:09[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:40:09[UNKNOWN]: That could have done it.
- 1:40:10[UNKNOWN]: This would have been amazing.
- 1:40:11[UNKNOWN]: The earlier I described the fun of the first battle in Z.A.
- 1:40:15[UNKNOWN]: and how the fun is a media.
- 1:40:16[UNKNOWN]: It's right there.
- 1:40:17[UNKNOWN]: I think you could have I think you could have re-activated that in your player by saying, you go into this DLC.
- 1:40:23[UNKNOWN]: You have no Pokemon on your team.
- 1:40:25[UNKNOWN]: You've got to get through this gauntlet, get to the end, beat the boss.
- 1:40:28[UNKNOWN]: And it's all Pokemon that you're like catching in that mode.
- 1:40:31[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, they just, it just, I don't know, I think they went with the least interesting version of this.
- 1:40:35[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:40:35[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:40:36[UNKNOWN]: But, but then, high
- 1:40:38[UNKNOWN]: How about when you go get like kayogur in that shit?
- 1:40:40[UNKNOWN]: Oh, oh, I still haven't beaten Ray quasi.
- 1:40:42[UNKNOWN]: It's I care is this it's yummy.
- 1:40:47[UNKNOWN]: Okay So much fun.
- 1:40:51[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, those those battles get lost in the discussion about the grinding this because and it's crazy to me because
- 1:40:58[UNKNOWN]: like the the battles against the weather trio specifically are some of the most insane most satisfying most fun just most like spectacle of a battle ever like they're so so good and it it's crazy that more people don't talk about it because it's like especially if you're like a ho and fan boy or something you should be like losing your mind over these bad this is the juice of what we want from remix like if this was lugia ho and celiby
- 1:41:24[UNKNOWN]: The Jodo babies would be would be screaming does you love you something?
- 1:41:28[UNKNOWN]: I just had a vision.
- 1:41:29[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah Dear God could you listen nobody's gonna like this everybody's gonna boon me in the comments You're gonna see you're gonna see people going boo and if you're gonna Go chat come on and you're gonna keep words ready.
- 1:41:38[UNKNOWN]: I wonder what that's about and then you make it to this part of the video You know it's about this part
- 1:41:42[UNKNOWN]: And I just had a vision of just straight up Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remade using the Legend ZA battle system and I couldn't be happy.
- 1:41:52[UNKNOWN]: I couldn't be happy good.
- 1:41:53[UNKNOWN]: I would, I would, I would, that's it.
- 1:41:55[UNKNOWN]: That's it.
- 1:41:55[UNKNOWN]: That would be great.
- 1:41:56[UNKNOWN]: Now we're fighting for a top Pokemon game.
- 1:41:58[UNKNOWN]: I had.
- 1:41:58[UNKNOWN]: Because I have the taste games already.
- 1:42:01[UNKNOWN]: I think those games are already concerned with, that's it you know.
- 1:42:03[UNKNOWN]: what it what it's moving moves the whole game of the whole games about movement they're all it's all about empowering your ability to move it's all there mr. take it on on on Jake's and it's all there it's all about movement it's so that's what that's why it's the game that you start and there's a lot of buying that in that moving truck that's why they know they know what it's about
- 1:42:25[UNKNOWN]: Bro this would be this is okay.
- 1:42:26[UNKNOWN]: This is where I feel insane when people say when people say legends EA looks bad.
- 1:42:31[UNKNOWN]: I I don't know what the thing because I look at screenshots like this and I'm like Imagine a Pokemon game where the whole game with the whole world looks like this Honestly, I would play any Pokemon game.
- 1:42:41[UNKNOWN]: I would play a full if generation 10 had ZA battle battle I would be in love.
- 1:42:49[UNKNOWN]: I don't think we'd lose anything.
- 1:42:51[UNKNOWN]: I don't think we would lose anything I think this is still just as fun as anything else
- 1:42:56[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, these these battles were the equivalent for me of it was basically like the the Ocarina of time remake equivalent for Ruby and so I and I got to play a little mini version of that in these battles like I was I was just in Thrall I was so in love with these battles and it's crazy to me how little they are actually talking
- 1:43:23[UNKNOWN]: I think, again, we were going to do today a retrospect of on ZA and I think that is interesting to me because a year now, almost a full year away from the release of ZA.
- 1:43:37[UNKNOWN]: I think the internet is cool off, and if anyone still plays EA, like I feel like people are looking at it away from the all the negative discourse, and I think unfair criticism of the game.
- 1:43:48[UNKNOWN]: I think I'm right, I think Z.A.
- 1:43:51[UNKNOWN]: is actually going to experience something similar to what we talked about about Ultra Sun and where, like, at the time, they got criticism because of the context of the moment, but once that
- 1:44:03[UNKNOWN]: Context has faded away and someone picks this up in like five or ten years and it's just playing it independently of anything else They're gonna be like whole crap.
- 1:44:12[UNKNOWN]: This is like awesome.
- 1:44:13[UNKNOWN]: This is super fun and I think that is ultimately how it will be remembered Well, we'll we'll have to wait and see if they ever like do the the battle style again in another game or something like that What's the remake of ZA gonna look like that's what I want?
- 1:44:28[UNKNOWN]: Okay, let's move on.
- 1:44:29[UNKNOWN]: I think the dream is they do X and Y remake with this battle style.
- 1:44:30[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:44:49[UNKNOWN]: Um, and I'm kind of realizing right here and then maybe you if if if champions was here, right, these three games.
- 1:44:56[UNKNOWN]: I mean, these these four games are all a different aspect of like what the Pokemon vision the Pote the fantasy of a Pokemon game when you pick it up the promise of a Pokemon game all four of these games champions, Poco Pia, ZA and Fire and leave green are all kind of delivering They're all kind of don't I can't move that back now.
- 1:45:13[UNKNOWN]: I just I moved champions on the on the brats
- 1:45:15[UNKNOWN]: I think we are saying those true of all Pokemon games.
- 1:45:17[UNKNOWN]: I think something that's important to the Pokemon companies that when they release a game, it's like very obviously different from their other things, which actually creates friction with Pokemon fans sometimes.
- 1:45:25[UNKNOWN]: Because I don't think this is true.
- 1:45:26[UNKNOWN]: I think all the switch games feel really, they're all kind of the same.
- 1:45:30[UNKNOWN]: Not less.
- 1:45:31[UNKNOWN]: No, that's crazy.
- 1:45:32[UNKNOWN]: That's crazy talk.
- 1:45:32[UNKNOWN]: That's absolutely crazy talk.
- 1:45:34[UNKNOWN]: Okay, no, absolutely not.
- 1:45:35[UNKNOWN]: If you like look at Legend's Archaeus and Legend's VA, there is a reason that people love one and don't love the other.
- 1:45:41[UNKNOWN]: It's like obvious when looking at it that those are different games.
- 1:45:44[UNKNOWN]: Even like like you can't, if you pull up screenshots of every Pokemon game, I can tell you on site, which one is which?
- 1:45:51[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but I'm not just saying visuals.
- 1:45:52[UNKNOWN]: I think Pocopia is like that true open world exploration craft do whatever the heck you want.
- 1:45:57[UNKNOWN]: It's we get Pocopia is a different genre video.
- 1:45:59[UNKNOWN]: I know I know champions is just the battling you got you Fire and leave green that's like the art that's like the RPG the the campaign of a Pokemon game and then GA is like that real-time battling like what I'm saying is like
- 1:46:13[UNKNOWN]: All this year, these four games, I think, are all doing one aspect of what a Pokemon game could be, where if you look at all the Switch games, BDSP, it's a Pokemon game, Sword and Shield, it's a Pokemon game, Scarlet and Violet, it's an open world Pokemon game.
- 1:46:27[UNKNOWN]: Like they're all the same thing.
- 1:46:27[UNKNOWN]: Let's go Pikachu and Eevee, even though visually, I completely disagree.
- 1:46:31[UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
- 1:46:31[UNKNOWN]: I think they're all pretty much the same.
- 1:46:33[UNKNOWN]: They're different aches on this game.
- 1:46:36[UNKNOWN]: You're telling me the BDSP is trying to achieve in its audience the same thing that Scarlet and Violet is trying to achieve.
- 1:46:44[UNKNOWN]: I think they or they have the same skeletal structure.
- 1:46:46[UNKNOWN]: All right.
- 1:46:47[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:46:48[UNKNOWN]: Eight badges.
- 1:46:49[UNKNOWN]: Pick a starter, you go through the game, and it's over.
- 1:46:52[UNKNOWN]: I'm not saying they're all of equal quality or the experiences the same, but I think what we're seeing with the 30th anniversary, these four games right here are all doing something different.
- 1:47:03[UNKNOWN]: They're breaking up the different niches, the different categories of what a Pokemon game is.
- 1:47:09[UNKNOWN]: So anyways, I love Pocopia, I love to hear what you guys have to say about this, especially you Jake,
- 1:47:19[UNKNOWN]: uh... jacemard as to the calm uh... wrote uh... wrote a piece of up uh... copia called uh... kill your inner lore master that was a good one and uh... yeah i felt out of that this one was he this one i got i got a lot of love for this one but yeah i talked about how i think something that i observed in this game was you know i have this i have this uh... example from the text
- 1:47:42[UNKNOWN]: where you find this note from this guy, I think Kenzo in Pocopia, that's on bleak beach.
- 1:47:50[UNKNOWN]: And it's like, you know, the whole mystery around what the Machop was building in Vermilion.
- 1:47:56[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:47:57[UNKNOWN]: It like answers that mystery.
- 1:47:59[UNKNOWN]: And I think that there's there are two ways to find satisfaction in this moment.
- 1:48:03[UNKNOWN]: Do you find satisfaction in going
- 1:48:06[UNKNOWN]: This decade's long Pokemon mystery is finally solved.
- 1:48:11[UNKNOWN]: Do you get it in like a metaway?
- 1:48:12[UNKNOWN]: Or...
- 1:48:14[UNKNOWN]: Do you demonstrate, or is the game doing something on its own, right?
- 1:48:19[UNKNOWN]: And like, are you open to feeling what the game is trying to do?
- 1:48:22[UNKNOWN]: Because there is this, there's this accumulated experience of inhabiting the spaces in Pocopia.
- 1:48:29[UNKNOWN]: So there are these abandoned human structures.
- 1:48:31[UNKNOWN]: You have a ditto that is imitating humanity, restoring spaces for the people who are not there and are not coming back.
- 1:48:40[UNKNOWN]: and there is this sadness in arranging the world for someone who may never return.
- 1:48:45[UNKNOWN]: I end that essay by talking about
- 1:48:49[UNKNOWN]: that note it's like I am my own dog waiting for my owner to come home.
- 1:48:54[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:48:54[UNKNOWN]: And I think that this fragment of the loss of visualization, the melancholy of rebuilding this abandoned human world.
- 1:49:03[UNKNOWN]: Instead, it's kind of extracted by the fanbase into a solution to a decades-old mystery.
- 1:49:08[UNKNOWN]: So there's this, I think we all have this lore master in our heads and I just kind of like urge people to
- 1:49:14[UNKNOWN]: to maybe have a more honest experience with the text and the critical framework that I provide is this very famous as a Susan Sontek.
- 1:49:25[UNKNOWN]: And it's all about how like interpretation can impoverish the art when it translates and experience into an answer.
- 1:49:34[UNKNOWN]: Because
- 1:49:34[UNKNOWN]: My objection is not to the knowledge itself, my objection is not that people make that connection between the Kenzo-no in the old games.
- 1:49:41[UNKNOWN]: It's the impulse to resolve a piece of art into something that you can explain and share to something that it's math, as if it's in the end of the content.
- 1:49:50[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:49:51[UNKNOWN]: And yeah.
- 1:49:51[UNKNOWN]: And I think the answer begins replacing the experience.
- 1:49:56[UNKNOWN]: And so sometimes I think people talk about Pocopia in a way that's too focused on the answers, the answer's
- 1:50:02[UNKNOWN]: Um, and they ignore the experience that is there.
- 1:50:05[UNKNOWN]: And I think the experience that's there is like a really cool one.
- 1:50:09[UNKNOWN]: And I end in Pocopia, the way that they're able to kind of activate this feeling of melancholy throughout the game is really powerful and profound.
- 1:50:18[UNKNOWN]: And I hope it gets his flowers for that because mechanically what the game is doing, I actually don't think is that impressive.
- 1:50:24[UNKNOWN]: Like all the all the building, all of like the core verbs of the game.
- 1:50:27[UNKNOWN]: I actually think narratively, man, when was the last time you played a Pokemon game?
- 1:50:33[UNKNOWN]: And the end credits hit you like a bus, yeah, maybe like, man, dude, maybe that, to have, to have an ending that is focused on the idea of catharsis itself, I think is really interesting.
- 1:50:45[UNKNOWN]: But like, mechanically what the game is doing, it's just like Dragon Quest builders too, it's just like, it's like, I've played this game before, and maybe a lot of Pokemon fans happen, right?
- 1:50:52[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so it's very like novel and unique and interesting in that way, and I can appreciate that, I think it's a fun game to play.
- 1:50:58[UNKNOWN]: But that's not why the game is great, like there's something there, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I totally feel it's and I think I do think at least our community, a lot of people in our community do like in our discord like did appreciate Pocopia, I had a great time.
- 1:51:13[UNKNOWN]: I think maybe
- 1:51:16[UNKNOWN]: the lack of appreciation that I've seen with Pocopia, I feel like it almost partially comes from like, not understanding how this game fits in to like your own Pokemon, like, or like not being able to like, not knowing how to talk about what you are enjoying about the game, you know, because it is so separate.
- 1:51:31[UNKNOWN]: And different from me, like Pokemon games.
- 1:51:33[UNKNOWN]: But all the things that I love about this game, feel to me, like,
- 1:51:38[UNKNOWN]: Exploring like the abandoned ship in the whole region, you know, like in finding like lost, you know, lost descriptions of maybe what had happened to that location years prior and why it's like I don't know.
- 1:51:54[UNKNOWN]: Things like that, I feel like that, I feel like those types of like when we talk about like Pokemon exploration, that's what I'm imagining.
- 1:52:00[UNKNOWN]: I imagine generations three, four, when you're like finding things that are off the beaten path and learning about the world through those things, finding rare Pokemon, making those memories, creating those experiences.
- 1:52:12[UNKNOWN]: And I feel like,
- 1:52:13[UNKNOWN]: That has been lost in Pocopia to me, solved it.
- 1:52:16[UNKNOWN]: I feel like that was the thing that I've been waiting for for so long.
- 1:52:19[UNKNOWN]: So, so it's tough about something that's tough about Pocopia is that the satisfaction of it is like in this experience and it's not as dramatized in a typical Pokemon game.
- 1:52:30[UNKNOWN]: So, the satisfaction in a typical Pokemon game, it's when you evolve when you be a battle, when you know, it's all this stuff that the game looks at you and says, hey, you're successful, but the satisfaction in Pocopia is not quite the same.
- 1:52:43[UNKNOWN]: And there is a more kind of like emotional experience there, and I think that that maybe is just not what people want to access in a Pokemon game a frequent request that I saw of the copia was people would say something like, well, I just wish the game had combat and I'm like, what would that would that be like
- 1:52:59[UNKNOWN]: How would that be just when I hurt the Pokemon?
- 1:53:02[UNKNOWN]: How would that be serving this game?
- 1:53:03[UNKNOWN]: And I just feel so disconnected from people when they say stuff like that where it's like, sometimes it feels like Pokemon fans want every Pokemon game to satisfy the same desires.
- 1:53:16[UNKNOWN]: And I don't know, I think something that's going on with Pokemon games right now that I really appreciate is that I feel like they are kind of like interested in speaking to
- 1:53:26[UNKNOWN]: different things that different fans want, and my only concern is selfishly.
- 1:53:32[UNKNOWN]: That I got legends CA and they're never going to feed me again.
- 1:53:35[UNKNOWN]: And you're good, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's all you get.
- 1:53:39[UNKNOWN]: Oh my god, I saw those like leaks or whatever of the legends like Gower game where you're commanding a bunch of guys at one time and I went don't do this to me.
- 1:53:46[UNKNOWN]: I went don't I was like stop your your other right track there.
- 1:53:49[UNKNOWN]: Buddy, I don't want to I will fully agree.
- 1:53:50[UNKNOWN]: I don't like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:53:53[UNKNOWN]: What do you think was sort of their pickman?
- 1:53:55[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I was like, I don't know.
- 1:53:56[UNKNOWN]: I want to be I want to be in there.
- 1:53:58[UNKNOWN]: I want to be in the mix.
- 1:53:59[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:54:00[UNKNOWN]: Um, what do you think about this hoops pokeopia so I think kind of a lot of the same sorts of things I think what sets pokeopia part is definitely the premise of it versus the gameplay because like if I if it was just like sort of this like
- 1:54:17[UNKNOWN]: just game was the game.
- 1:54:20[UNKNOWN]: It was like here's a building simulator, but it's got Pokemon in it.
- 1:54:24[UNKNOWN]: I would play it for a few hours, think it's perfectly fine, and then I would never think about it again, honestly, because there's plenty of my Pokemon spinner.
- 1:54:33[UNKNOWN]: It's not really my type of game to begin with, and then it's like if it's just animal crossing Pokemon, that's fun, but like
- 1:54:40[UNKNOWN]: I wouldn't think much of it after playing it for a handful of hours.
- 1:54:46[UNKNOWN]: Sure.
- 1:54:46[UNKNOWN]: The thing that says Pocobia apart though is the fact that again, it's kind of just like the general lore that it's set up for itself where it's like you're playing as a Pokemon because there's no more people.
- 1:54:59[UNKNOWN]: because the world ended and you're left to pick up the pieces and there's little fragments, there's little notes and journal entries that you can find to sort of piece together what happened.
- 1:55:10[UNKNOWN]: And then there's these Pokemon that sort of have kind of like the keys to
- 1:55:17[UNKNOWN]: Like what happened, whether it be a legendary Pokemon or whether it be like one of the newer Pokemon like moss lacks or whatever and then you've got like just tons of charm which is another great thing like you've got coyoga that's from Alabama or something like southern coyoga, you know, like there's there's all these little thing there's silly stuff as well.
- 1:55:38[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:55:38[UNKNOWN]: that just add a, add fun charm to the game.
- 1:55:42[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, for me, the, the, the appeal was really like the lore, the premise like it made me want to continue playing because I wanted to continue not to continue like finishing my city, but to find all those journal entries to find out what happened to the people to find out like any other secrets that I might be able to uncover as it relates to.
- 1:56:05[UNKNOWN]: this catastrophe that's happened.
- 1:56:07[UNKNOWN]: I think that is like this game's secret sauce and is really what made it special and made it like a step up from what it honestly needed to be because all it really needed to be was animal crossing Pokemon.
- 1:56:21[UNKNOWN]: Like that's really kind of like all it had to do and it would have been fine.
- 1:56:25[UNKNOWN]: But I think they honestly want to step up from that and I think that's what makes it special.
- 1:56:29[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I would even say that there's like no animal crossing in this game.
- 1:56:43[UNKNOWN]: But I guess I'm not, you know what?
- 1:56:45[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I, I don't know.
- 1:56:46[UNKNOWN]: It's animal crossing is not the number one.
- 1:56:48[UNKNOWN]: Like, I guess it's like the kind of diminutive of the of the art style and like how you kind of like see the world, but like animal crossing is a much more limited game than.
- 1:56:58[UNKNOWN]: this and I've tried to go back and play animal crossing and it does not hit the same.
- 1:57:02[UNKNOWN]: It's like you almost needed to be there.
- 1:57:04[UNKNOWN]: I don't have the patience to play it.
- 1:57:05[UNKNOWN]: Animal crossing is more interested in kind of like the daily ritual, right?
- 1:57:09[UNKNOWN]: And it's like the closeness of the space, whereas this one's a little bit focused on other things.
- 1:57:15[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I always feel like this game is more in common with like a Minecraft than it does.
- 1:57:18[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, crossing.
- 1:57:19[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but I think so.
- 1:57:20[UNKNOWN]: But you know, it doesn't really matter.
- 1:57:22[UNKNOWN]: We got Professor
- 1:57:26[UNKNOWN]: All right, 10 and a 10.
- 1:57:27[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's for your mascot, Desky.
- 1:57:30[UNKNOWN]: Professor Tang Grove.
- 1:57:32[UNKNOWN]: No, that's the same group.
- 1:57:33[UNKNOWN]: I'm just regular Tang Grove.
- 1:57:35[UNKNOWN]: Tangola.
- 1:57:36[UNKNOWN]: All right, Pocopia is going to win.
- 1:57:38[UNKNOWN]: Poc, oh, let's do this.
- 1:57:39[UNKNOWN]: Legend Zia or, or, or, or fire red leaf green.
- 1:57:42[UNKNOWN]: Or I'll die.
- 1:57:44[UNKNOWN]: Who's coming out on top on this?
- 1:57:46[UNKNOWN]: I'm honestly I'll go first because I know Jake's got to think about it.
- 1:57:50[UNKNOWN]: I got to think about it.
- 1:57:51[UNKNOWN]: Shout out to the person who just just followed me on Twitch.
- 1:57:57[UNKNOWN]: I honestly, I guess I part of me wants to say fire red and leaf green.
- 1:58:01[UNKNOWN]: Like what experience am I having?
- 1:58:03[UNKNOWN]: Like what am I enjoying the most right now for the 30th year anniversary?
- 1:58:07[UNKNOWN]: I think I got to give it a fire red and leaf green.
- 1:58:09[UNKNOWN]: However, yeah, if we're going to debate which game is better overall?
- 1:58:15[UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
- 1:58:15[UNKNOWN]: I think I might even lean towards ZA, but in terms of like replay and let me alter your perception.
- 1:58:22[UNKNOWN]: Let me alter your perception by a red and leaf green already exists.
- 1:58:24[UNKNOWN]: We're not talking about the game's fire and leaf green.
- 1:58:26[UNKNOWN]: We're talking about fire and leaf green released on Nintendo Switch.
- 1:58:30[UNKNOWN]: Which one are you happier about?
- 1:58:32[UNKNOWN]: Are you happier about Pokemon Legends ZA existing?
- 1:58:35[UNKNOWN]: Or Pokemon Fire and leaf green existing on Nintendo Switch?
- 1:58:39[UNKNOWN]: That's that changes the dialogue because I'm happier.
- 1:58:43[UNKNOWN]: I'm happier that legends EA exists Yeah, I I mean poor.
- 1:58:46[UNKNOWN]: I have fun.
- 1:58:47[UNKNOWN]: I could play fire and leave green.
- 1:58:49[UNKNOWN]: I could play that Exactly, but fire and leave green also contains within it the subtle promise of future Pokemon games Coming to Nintendo Switch
- 1:59:02[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it depends on how you look at it because for me, it's like the firehead leaf green port is really nice, but it's mostly like just this kind of like convenient novelty of being able to play on modern hardware.
- 1:59:15[UNKNOWN]: Right versus legends, CA is like.
- 1:59:19[UNKNOWN]: breaking new ground in terms of what a Pokemon game could possibly be.
- 1:59:22[UNKNOWN]: And so I'm way happier the Legends EA exists versus the Switch port of Fire, but if I'm comparing them game to game, I think I would give the edge to Fire at Leave Green because for as cool of different things that Legends EA offers with like the real-time combat and just like so many other things that it does that are just so much fun.
- 1:59:45[UNKNOWN]: I think
- 1:59:47[UNKNOWN]: Uh, it does have some pitfalls that I don't think fire the green necessarily as and fire the green just kind of is more complete just like I don't think I'll ever get bored of playing.
- 2:00:00[UNKNOWN]: I feel like it's a more satisfying experience where when you finish it, it's like, oh man, what a great game.
- 2:00:05[UNKNOWN]: It's a fun time.
- 2:00:06[UNKNOWN]: Time to play when you play when you play Legends EA, you're like, oh, that was really great, but this kind of bothered me a little bit.
- 2:00:13[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, let me put this on this.
- 2:00:14[UNKNOWN]: This was slightly annoying, so much like a fan.
- 2:00:17[UNKNOWN]: There's more asterisks with legends EA.
- 2:00:20[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, as much fun as I've ever had with ZEA.
- 2:00:23[UNKNOWN]: I don't think I'm actually looking if I got to be truthful.
- 2:00:26[UNKNOWN]: You know, you guys in the comments are right, like I don't think I want to play through the story over and over and over and over and over again.
- 2:00:35[UNKNOWN]: And I think there's something mindless in satisfying not mindless, but just comfortable and that like I will forever go back to these classic 2D Pokemon games.
- 2:00:47[UNKNOWN]: And if I read on the screen specifically, is the cream of the crop?
- 2:00:51[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, I'm I'm kind of torn because I'm like I am glad it is on the switch to and I'm getting a lot more fun out of it because I actually I have two switches and I can trade in between the two games and you know it's crazy our people still complaining that you can't trade
- 2:01:05[UNKNOWN]: like on Wi-Fi.
- 2:01:06[UNKNOWN]: No, people need to get over that.
- 2:01:07[UNKNOWN]: People need it.
- 2:01:08[UNKNOWN]: That's a choice.
- 2:01:09[UNKNOWN]: And it's a good one.
- 2:01:10[UNKNOWN]: Jake, I was supposed to visit you last month, and I'm a little bit pissed only because you said you were going to give me your IV sore.
- 2:01:16[UNKNOWN]: That IV sore has your name all over it.
- 2:01:17[UNKNOWN]: Because I don't know what I'm going to see you next.
- 2:01:20[UNKNOWN]: And I don't want to read.
- 2:01:21[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I guess I will eventually restart.
- 2:01:23[UNKNOWN]: But I want your IV sore.
- 2:01:24[UNKNOWN]: I want to, I want the Jake, I want the Jake O.T.
- 2:01:27[UNKNOWN]: You know, he's not getting the news on my team.
- 2:01:29[UNKNOWN]: It's the only way I can get it, geez.
- 2:01:31[UNKNOWN]: What are we doing, guys?
- 2:01:32[UNKNOWN]: I don't know, for the 30th year anniversary, it would feel I would be bummed to fire red leafcreen don't move on because I'm just so attached to them right now.
- 2:01:39[UNKNOWN]: Okay, so here's the thing.
- 2:01:40[UNKNOWN]: I just...
- 2:01:43[UNKNOWN]: I just, no, no, no, listen, I, I dreamed about this Pokemon game for my whole life about one where I could move around my Pokemon would move around with me.
- 2:01:51[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, about where I could press the protect button in line with the attack coming in and protect myself.
- 2:01:55[UNKNOWN]: I had to stop everybody's got to stop there, they're following me on all my channels.
- 2:01:58[UNKNOWN]: It's too much.
- 2:01:59[UNKNOWN]: I'm not even, I'm not lying right now.
- 2:02:01[UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
- 2:02:01[UNKNOWN]: We're not even streaming this.
- 2:02:02[UNKNOWN]: This is pretty funny.
- 2:02:03[UNKNOWN]: I don't know what it is, I'm just so popular.
- 2:02:05[UNKNOWN]: But, uh, that's it.
- 2:02:08[UNKNOWN]: I, there was an enthusiasm in the, in the, in the pre-release and the launch of Legends EA that I just, I just want to give its flowers to because it really in terms of lighting up my enthusiasm for Pokemon, what Pokemon is capable of, what I can see in future Pokemon games.
- 2:02:28[UNKNOWN]: It did, there is a, there is a degree to which I think Pokemon Legends EA is like
- 2:02:38[UNKNOWN]: Damn, that is awesome.
- 2:02:40[UNKNOWN]: Whereas like Pokemon Fire and Leaf Green, I agree with you, love those games, cream with the crop, replay infinitely, God damn can't say enough about them, but just zooming out for like the Pokemon brand and what it's saying to me about, because listen, if you take Pokemon Legends EA out of this, this whole chart and you just look at this bracket, look at these games that were released.
- 2:03:01[UNKNOWN]: I think if Pokemon Legends EA is missing, that is the biggest hole.
- 2:03:07[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I think that's the biggest hole in a like one would be the last doing for it We'd be like where where is this game is this gonna be and then yeah, God, but fire and leaf greener so good I think I think Zay moves on.
- 2:03:20[UNKNOWN]: No, that's crazy.
- 2:03:20[UNKNOWN]: I got you.
- 2:03:21[UNKNOWN]: No, no, don't let me do that Don't let me do this.
- 2:03:23[UNKNOWN]: No, I mean, I thought whoops.
- 2:03:25[UNKNOWN]: I thought whoops was out of the kitty for that as well Wait, I was I was I was I was you're right if you zoom out.
- 2:03:31[UNKNOWN]: I can play fire and leave create.
- 2:03:32[UNKNOWN]: I did I do think
- 2:03:35[UNKNOWN]: And not even you can play them.
- 2:03:36[UNKNOWN]: I think fire and leaf green represent a kind of Pokemon experience that you know you're always going to get that it's it's not it's we're going to have it's perfect But that's my point.
- 2:03:45[UNKNOWN]: It's personal.
- 2:03:46[UNKNOWN]: I know.
- 2:03:46[UNKNOWN]: I know is there a better a 30th year anniversary game.
- 2:03:49[UNKNOWN]: I don't know then fire and leaf green ports on switch Is there a better game to put out?
- 2:03:53[UNKNOWN]: I don't even think wins and waves that that wins and waves would be would have been a risk if wins a wave came out this year during the 30th year anniversary There's a chance you flip a coin that the whole internet hates it and it's the worst.
- 2:04:03[UNKNOWN]: It's the worst
- 2:04:04[UNKNOWN]: Okay, let me ask you this.
- 2:04:05[UNKNOWN]: Let me ask you this.
- 2:04:05[UNKNOWN]: I read the screen golden.
- 2:04:07[UNKNOWN]: We're talking.
- 2:04:07[UNKNOWN]: We're talking next year around this time.
- 2:04:09[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 2:04:10[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and Pokemon fire and leaf green.
- 2:04:12[UNKNOWN]: They've been out for a year Pokemon Ruby Sapphire number.
- 2:04:15[UNKNOWN]: They're out on the switch.
- 2:04:17[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and again, your your shocked.
- 2:04:18[UNKNOWN]: You can't believe it.
- 2:04:19[UNKNOWN]: You've made 20 YouTube videos about it already.
- 2:04:21[UNKNOWN]: They put Pokemon harco and soul silver on the switch.
- 2:04:24[UNKNOWN]: All right, all right, you can't but it's it's you've a 10 video saying they're coming 10 video saying they're here And okay, so now you zoom out you see all of these classic Pokemon games are available on the on the switch to Oh, and and you've got Pokemon legends the either you kind of you kind of see what I'm saying You kind of see what I'm saying about like what what it represents and and the the kind of
- 2:04:47[UNKNOWN]: what it what it signals and like what it means I think that these legends games are like really, really important to what Pokemon is in the modern context.
- 2:04:55[UNKNOWN]: I think these legends games separate this era of Pokemon from every other past era.
- 2:05:00[UNKNOWN]: You're 100% right and I just that's like
- 2:05:05[UNKNOWN]: But I only believe what I'm saying 75% right now because there is go down.
- 2:05:11[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's like, do I feel a little achy if I leave this conversation and fire and leave cream are not at the top of this this battle.
- 2:05:20[UNKNOWN]: I do.
- 2:05:20[UNKNOWN]: I feel a little achy.
- 2:05:22[UNKNOWN]: But here's the thing.
- 2:05:24[UNKNOWN]: I think the real thing is whoever wins between legends, EA, and fire and leave cream is going to go up against Pocoopia.
- 2:05:31[UNKNOWN]: I think Pocopia, I think Pocopia beats EA, but I think fire and leave green, be Pocopia.
- 2:05:38[UNKNOWN]: Because fire and leave, fire and leave green have what Pocopia also offers.
- 2:05:43[UNKNOWN]: I'll see, I actually, I, I, no, not for me, not for me.
- 2:05:47[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 2:05:47[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, not for me.
- 2:05:48[UNKNOWN]: I, I think it's.
- 2:05:49[UNKNOWN]: What are we doing?
- 2:05:50[UNKNOWN]: Can we look that far?
- 2:05:51[UNKNOWN]: Can we look that far into the bracket?
- 2:05:53[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:05:53[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:05:54[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:05:55[UNKNOWN]: I do want to say that, uh, I think Legend's EA to Jake's point is the more important game of the two because it, again, it is showing what Pokemon can become.
- 2:06:06[UNKNOWN]: It is, it is offering a window to the future.
- 2:06:09[UNKNOWN]: It is showing the possibilities.
- 2:06:11[UNKNOWN]: But just straight up just like looking at the games and being like which one is better, which one do I want to play?
- 2:06:17[UNKNOWN]: I think I would give the edge fire at the upgrade.
- 2:06:19[UNKNOWN]: So that's gonna be my vote damn fire and leaf greener it is all right.
- 2:06:23[UNKNOWN]: There we go put it throw put it throw you're right.
- 2:06:25[UNKNOWN]: I agree.
- 2:06:26[UNKNOWN]: I agree
- 2:06:27[UNKNOWN]: And then versus Pocopia, who's going to win?
- 2:06:29[UNKNOWN]: Who's going to win the 30th year anniversary bracket Fire Red and Leaf Green or Pocopia?
- 2:06:34[UNKNOWN]: Oh, this is crazy of us.
- 2:06:35[UNKNOWN]: People are going to hate this.
- 2:06:37[UNKNOWN]: I'm seeing, I didn't, now that you put these two against each other, and we're going to be the people that are obviously with a bull because they're polar out.
- 2:06:43[UNKNOWN]: It's by Red and Leaf Green.
- 2:06:44[UNKNOWN]: But like, that's, that's crazy of us, actually.
- 2:06:46[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, shout out, leave a comment.
- 2:06:48[UNKNOWN]: If you think XD Gail of Darkness should be at the top of this list.
- 2:06:52[UNKNOWN]: Do you honestly love that person?
- 2:06:54[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I got to I want to play this game one of my favorite streams of the year one of my favorite streams of the year with my chat I did random two player battles over Nintendo switch online in Pokemon XD so two people load in online And then it gives you a random team and you just you just battle each other woke like like it's well But it's but it's over online which is something you couldn't do
- 2:07:15[UNKNOWN]: in gale of the darkness originally obviously because you can only play these games online thanks to Nintendo Switch Online and those battles are so fun because like the the guys look so freaky they look so fun they've got there's a person in the teens and the teens are like jacked like these are funny you can do different levels they'll give you like different strengths of Pokemon it's it's pretty fun actually we did that the other day with um Pokemon stadium oh super fun yeah yeah it's very fun super fun I gotta play there's two this is what i'm saying there's too many Pokemon games on switch too and we're all just looking at the game that's come we're all looking at Pokemon seed in five years from now
- 2:07:45[UNKNOWN]: All right, can you throw the mystery dungeon game that they're going to announce in February and that's going to come out in April?
- 2:07:51[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, can I add that on this?
- 2:07:53[UNKNOWN]: Can you throw that on this?
- 2:07:54[UNKNOWN]: Well, you think we're getting the mystery dungeon game?
- 2:07:56[UNKNOWN]: A little bit.
- 2:07:57[UNKNOWN]: Okay, for one of them on Pokemon Day.
- 2:07:59[UNKNOWN]: I do poke my desk common in February.
- 2:08:02[UNKNOWN]: We're getting close.
- 2:08:04[UNKNOWN]: Can I tell you, can I, this is a bit, this is a detour.
- 2:08:06[UNKNOWN]: Do you, do you, okay?
- 2:08:07[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, sure, I, I'll, I'll write the timestamp.
- 2:08:10[UNKNOWN]: Okay, turns out Jake's little detour was so potent that we kept talking for nearly an hour.
- 2:08:16[UNKNOWN]: We had to cut it from the episode, but you can listen to it.
- 2:08:19[UNKNOWN]: It's on Patreon.

- 2:08:25[UNKNOWN]: Let's get back to the, let's get back to the bracket.
- 2:08:27[UNKNOWN]: That's what you guys wanna see.
- 2:08:29[UNKNOWN]: Okay, I'm gonna listen.
- 2:08:31[UNKNOWN]: Full transparency.
- 2:08:32[UNKNOWN]: This is this is all the Patreon clip.
- 2:08:34[UNKNOWN]: This is all the Patreon episode Who's went in the bracket?
- 2:08:39[UNKNOWN]: Pocopia or fire red and leave green fire red and leave green between these two has got to be fire What about you hoops that's what I was gonna say too because I mean Pocopia is wonderful But it's wonderful.
- 2:08:51[UNKNOWN]: It's not it's Pokemon, but it's not Pokemon if that makes sense
- 2:08:58[UNKNOWN]: All right, Fire Red Leaf Green is the number one game is the most representative game of the 30th anniversary.
- 2:09:05[UNKNOWN]: Hope you guys are happy.
- 2:09:06[UNKNOWN]: Um, yeah, I don't know, let us know in the comments what you guys think is the best game this year.
- 2:09:11[UNKNOWN]: Are you happy with the 30th anniversary?
- 2:09:13[UNKNOWN]: Are you expecting maybe when this video comes out?
- 2:09:15[UNKNOWN]: Maybe when you're watching this video.
- 2:09:16[UNKNOWN]: Ruby Sapphire and Emerald are already out.
- 2:09:18[UNKNOWN]: Maybe we're playing up.
- 2:09:19[UNKNOWN]: Maybe you're already playing wins and waves who knows.
