- 0:00The goal of the Integral Yoga is nothing less than the
- 0:04transformation of human nature, the uplifting of consciousness
- 0:08to the next evolutionary stage in the manifestation, and the
- 0:13consequent changes that brings about to create a new harmony
- 0:18and a New Balance in the life of the individual and in the world.
- 0:23Those who take up this yoga find that human nature is not so
- 0:26malleable, and thus old modes and habits of action tend to
- 0:32stay embedded even when we recognize that things need to
- 0:36change. Some of the past developments of
- 0:39consciousness have taken not just millennia to manifest and
- 0:43embed themselves in human nature.
- 0:45Rather, some of these traits go back literally hundreds of
- 0:50millions or even billions of years.
- 0:54If we take up the yogic practice with the expectation that we
- 0:58will get easy or fast results, we are thus bound to be
- 1:03disappointed. We thus have to take a different
- 1:06approach, one of offering and self giving to the longer term
- 1:11process of which we are a part. We may never ourselves see or
- 1:16experience the changes we are aspiring toward, but we are
- 1:20helping by the very attempt to prepare the ground, the texture
- 1:26of consciousness, for these changes to come about.
- 1:31In a very simplified way, we can look at this process as
- 1:34something of a relay race. Forerunners sequentially take
- 1:39the baton as they are running around the track.
- 1:42Only the last one actually crosses the finish line, but all
- 1:46of the others were essential to make it happen.
- 1:50Possibly some of the changes in human nature may take place very
- 1:54quickly in just a few 100 years. We ourselves are tasked with
- 1:59carrying our baton through our brief lifetimes and handing it
- 2:04off figuratively to the next generation who will continue the
- 2:08work. And eventually the new
- 2:11consciousness will be fully manifested, will set right the
- 2:15imbalances and disharmonies in the mental, vital, physical,
- 2:19precarious balance that clearly has its limitations as a
- 2:23transitional stage, and will reorganize the life of the
- 2:28humanity and its relationship with the other beings and the
- 2:32environment of the planet itself.
- 2:36If we take the approach of a self offering to this larger
- 2:39divine manifestation, and if we at the same time do not carry
- 2:44within us the expectation of personal benefit, we can
- 2:48experience, as the Mother mentions, the joy of living our
- 2:52lives and the joy of offering the Mother observes.
- 2:58Quote. As with everything in yoga, the
- 3:02effort for progress must be made for the love of the effort for
- 3:06progress. The joy of effort, the
- 3:09aspiration for progress, must be enough in themselves, quite
- 3:14independent of the result. Everything one does in yoga must
- 3:18be done for the joy of doing it, and not in view of the result
- 3:23one wants to obtain. Indeed, in life always in all
- 3:28things, the result does not belong to us, and if we want to
- 3:33keep the right attitude, we must act, feel, think, strive
- 3:38spontaneously, for that is what we must do and not in view of
- 3:45the result to be obtained. As soon as we think of the
- 3:49result, we begin to bargain, and that takes away all sincerity
- 3:53from the effort. You make an effort to progress
- 3:57because you feel within you the need, the imperative need to
- 4:01make an effort and progress. And this effort is the gift you
- 4:06offer to the divine consciousness in you, the divine
- 4:09consciousness in the universe. It is your way of expressing
- 4:14your gratitude, offering yourself, and whether this
- 4:18results in progress or not is of no importance.
- 4:22You will progress when you it is decided that the time has come
- 4:27to progress, and not because you desire it.
- 4:31If you wish to progress, if you make an effort to control
- 4:35yourself, for instance, to overcome certain defects,
- 4:39weaknesses, imperfections, and if you expect to get a more or
- 4:44less immediate result from your effort, your effort loses all
- 4:48sincerity. It becomes a bargaining.
- 4:51You say, see, I am going to make an effort, but that's because I
- 4:56want this in exchange for my effort.
- 4:58You are no longer spontaneous, no longer natural.
