- 1:01Speaker 2: Steelers Nation Radio.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Glad he could join us here live from Pittsburgh Steelers'
- 1:05Speaker 3: training camp. Rob King will be subbing in. I'm subbing
- 1:08Speaker 3: in for Rob King, I should say. Rob will be
- 1:10Speaker 3: joining us here in just a few minutes working out
- 1:12Speaker 3: some technical stuff on our back end. But we're being
- 1:14Speaker 3: joined with his co host Max Stark's here in the
- 1:18Speaker 3: locker room and Mack you Max, you had an exciting
- 1:21Speaker 3: night with some Hall of Famers.
- 1:23Speaker 4: It was a wonderful, wonderful, wonderul wonderful night. Yeah, left
- 1:29Speaker 4: here a you know, hour number two of the show
- 1:32Speaker 4: and started driving uh to Canton, Ohio. Obviously Hall of
- 1:36Speaker 4: Fame weekend. We saw the game two days ago. Last
- 1:39Speaker 4: night was the Gold Jacket dinner and ceremony, and tonight,
- 1:45Speaker 4: of course the Hall of Famers will get their bust
- 1:47Speaker 4: and they'll get their speeches in Canton from h Tom
- 1:51Speaker 4: Benson Stadium. But it was nice to go because my agent,
- 1:55Speaker 4: you know, those were listening yesterday his dad got the
- 1:58Speaker 4: Pete Roselle Award posthumously, so my agent spoke on his
- 2:02Speaker 4: dad's behalf. And it was cool because I've been to
- 2:06Speaker 4: the Gold Jacket ceremony twice, you know, once for Jerome
- 2:10Speaker 4: when he went in and.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Then post COVID the Double Class twenty twenty twenty one.
- 2:16Speaker 4: So so Coach Cower, Alan Troy, Bill Nunn, Donnisha, all
- 2:22Speaker 4: of those guys went in in that superclass.
- 2:24Speaker 2: So that was a second. But it was funny because
- 2:26Speaker 2: I was sitting.
- 2:27Speaker 4: I normally sat in the stands like the in the
- 2:30Speaker 4: in the Canton civic centers where they hold it, but
- 2:33Speaker 4: this time, because I was there with my A, I
- 2:35Speaker 4: sat at a table on the on the floor level.
- 2:38Speaker 4: And that was really really cool to experience because they
- 2:43Speaker 4: had a record last night. One hundred and twenty guys
- 2:45Speaker 4: came back, So it was just awesome just to see
- 2:48Speaker 4: a the number of guys that showed up of the
- 2:52Speaker 4: three hundred and eighty seven, but more importantly all the
- 2:57Speaker 4: Steeler legends that were in a ten last night. So
- 3:01Speaker 4: it was just great. I mean, saw Lynn Swann, saw
- 3:04Speaker 4: Joe Green, Donnie Shell, and then of course like you
- 3:09Speaker 4: go to my Mel Blunt, then my contemporaries, you know, Alan,
- 3:14Speaker 4: Alan Troy wasn't there, DERMONDI Dawson, Coach Cower, and so
- 3:19Speaker 4: it was just really cool to just see all of
- 3:21Speaker 4: those individuals mixed in with a group of guys. I mean,
- 3:25Speaker 4: now I was telling you this off air, like I'm
- 3:27Speaker 4: looking at I'm like, man, I played.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Against a lot of these guys, Like I was in
- 3:30Speaker 2: the league the.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Same time as these guys, So what does that say
- 3:33Speaker 4: about me that I feel older?
- 3:34Speaker 5: You know?
- 3:34Speaker 2: Am I.
- 3:35Speaker 4: You know, I'm blessed that that kind of this era
- 3:37Speaker 4: of guys is starting to go in. You know, I
- 3:41Speaker 4: was drafted with Larry in two thousand and four and
- 3:44Speaker 4: we had the same agent our.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Whole career is Gene Parker.
- 3:47Speaker 4: So it's like to see that and you know the
- 3:51Speaker 4: emotion behind it. Play, you know, play trust me to
- 3:53Speaker 4: much chagrin. Adam Vinteri has thwarted many of many of
- 3:57Speaker 4: campaigns against New England when I played, when when played
- 4:00Speaker 4: against him, and then of course when he went to
- 4:01Speaker 4: the Colts. So it's it was it was like really
- 4:06Speaker 4: cool and Roger Craig, I mean both of us were
- 4:09Speaker 4: talking about we caught the back half of his career
- 4:11Speaker 4: and just what he was as a player, and finally
- 4:13Speaker 4: getting in, uh was awesome. And then Drew too many
- 4:18Speaker 4: times with Drew but yes, Drew Brees goes in as
- 4:22Speaker 4: a fifth member. It's just it was just it was
- 4:24Speaker 4: just crazy and cool to see because a lot of
- 4:27Speaker 4: the guys you think of, like a Bobby Bell, Like
- 4:29Speaker 4: I didn't watch Bobby Bell play, you know, Willie Lanier
- 4:32Speaker 4: and and you know Ricky Jackson, Larry Zanka, right, I
- 4:35Speaker 4: didn't see these guys play and so against them, Yeah, exact, Yeah,
- 4:40Speaker 4: letlone play against him.
- 4:40Speaker 5: Yeh.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Jon Stiner Rou like, yeah, you remember those man Boy
- 4:44Speaker 4: Golden toe jon Stiner Roo. Yeah, did not see Jan
- 4:47Speaker 4: stener Roo play, you know, but I did see more
- 4:50Speaker 4: than Anderson.
- 4:51Speaker 2: A little bit. I mean listened that single bar was
- 4:53Speaker 2: crazy back in the day for a k and that
- 4:55Speaker 2: was the old school luck buddy, Yeah it was. But
- 4:58Speaker 2: but yeah, it's just and you realize.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Just the history of this game, the vast history, but
- 5:06Speaker 4: like the moments these players invoked in your mind and
- 5:09Speaker 4: you see it's no question why they have a golden jacket, right,
- 5:13Speaker 4: and why they're immortalized in Canton, Ohio. I mean, these
- 5:18Speaker 4: were the best of the best of the best of
- 5:21Speaker 4: the best. You know, there was a lot of you know,
- 5:23Speaker 4: Rich Eisen was was hosting the show, and he was
- 5:25Speaker 4: just talking about was like there's another one, one of one's,
- 5:28Speaker 4: you know, and like it's the countless numbers. Like I'm like,
- 5:30Speaker 4: you know, when Emmitt Smith comes out, like the number
- 5:31Speaker 4: one rushing you know, running back of all time, and
- 5:35Speaker 4: I'm like, well he's a Gator, so love it.
- 5:37Speaker 2: He's from Pensacola, Florida boy that checks your box, Yeah,
- 5:41Speaker 2: checks my box. And I was a huge m Smith's
- 5:43Speaker 2: fan back in the day. Of course. Yeah, in the nineties.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Who wasn't an Emmitt Smith fan?
- 5:47Speaker 4: Just like in the eighties, who wasn't a Roger Craig fan.
- 5:49Speaker 4: So it's like it was Roger Craig's sweetness. I mean,
- 5:52Speaker 4: but Roger Craig was up there the high knees and
- 5:54Speaker 4: you know running.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I never liked the Cowboys, but I did like Emmett
- 5:58Speaker 3: oh yeah, and Mike Orbin that that whole team was hard.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I liked the players.
- 6:02Speaker 4: It was tough to root for the logo because I mean,
- 6:07Speaker 4: you had to like Troy you know, you had you
- 6:09Speaker 4: had like Michael Irvin. You had you had to like
- 6:12Speaker 4: Mary Allen, Larry I mean, god, listen, listen the Hogs
- 6:16Speaker 4: up front.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Listen.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Larry Allen and Nate Newton were my favorite two girls.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Nate Newton also Orlando boy went to Jones High School.
- 6:23Speaker 4: You know another one right.
- 6:24Speaker 2: There, shout out, shout out to Orlando.
- 6:27Speaker 4: But yeah, moos Johnston, right, I mean, and then you
- 6:30Speaker 4: had Dion on there on those teams, Charles Hayley, I mean,
- 6:34Speaker 4: you had you had so many guys that she just liked,
- 6:37Speaker 4: but it was just tough to root for.
- 6:39Speaker 2: The name of the team and the logo. So Jimmy
- 6:42Speaker 2: Johnson and the hair, right, the hair, I was I
- 6:46Speaker 2: was a little bit less Jimmy Johnson because he went
- 6:48Speaker 2: to Miami, That's right.
- 6:49Speaker 4: So yeah, so so yeah, So it was just it
- 6:53Speaker 4: was just but it was an awesome night. It was
- 6:54Speaker 4: a beautiful night. The speech my my agent, Dean Grossman
- 6:57Speaker 4: gave was fabulous talking about his dad, I mean, and
- 7:02Speaker 4: then they then they had like this little little vignette
- 7:05Speaker 4: they played, you know, for each of them, and it
- 7:09Speaker 4: was crazy to see John Madden and Pat Summraw giving
- 7:14Speaker 4: an interview about what they thought about Sandy Grosse, which
- 7:17Speaker 4: I thought was just phenomenal. I was like, man, they
- 7:20Speaker 4: went into like the archives and found something. So that
- 7:22Speaker 4: was it was just beautiful, beautiful night.
- 7:24Speaker 3: And I mean, those are two the best to talk
- 7:27Speaker 3: to when it comes to stuff like that during that
- 7:29Speaker 3: time period. Rob King, the host of this show in
- 7:33Speaker 3: the locker room now on the line. Hello, Rob, Welcome
- 7:37Speaker 3: into the locker room with your buddy Max Starks.
- 7:40Speaker 6: I'm in my own locker room right now.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I got I got my own I got
- 7:46Speaker 5: my own locker, all set up here, ready to go. Max.
- 7:50Speaker 5: I know you've been talking about this, but I just
- 7:52Speaker 5: hope you had a special great time last night.
- 7:54Speaker 4: I did, man, I I did, and.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And it was it was. It was a great time.
- 8:00Speaker 4: And I was kind of talking talking with Ed here,
- 8:03Speaker 4: you know, just seeing all of the amount of guys.
- 8:05Speaker 4: They had a record number return of gold jackets last night,
- 8:08Speaker 4: one hundred and twenty that showed up. So I was
- 8:11Speaker 4: telling him about the Steelers guys that were there, and
- 8:13Speaker 4: of course then I was saying, how, you know, this
- 8:15Speaker 4: feels weird because now I'm in the era of guys
- 8:20Speaker 4: going in, so I played against a lot of these guys.
- 8:22Speaker 4: I'm in the same age range as a lot of
- 8:24Speaker 4: these guys. So that was kind of surreal the number
- 8:28Speaker 4: of guys that were getting called in. And He's like, dude,
- 8:32Speaker 4: this dude has a has a gold I remember playing
- 8:34Speaker 4: against this guy and it felt like yesterday.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I mean, you know, Patrick Willis, Julius Peppers, Jared.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Allen, right, I mean played well, you know, loved Jonathan
- 8:44Speaker 4: Jonathan Ogden and Willie Rofe and Orlando Pace, like you know,
- 8:51Speaker 4: you're seeing all these guys and hey, actually I remember
- 8:55Speaker 4: for my rookie year playing against Jerry Rice. Right, this
- 8:59Speaker 4: crazy easy to say those type of things out loud.
- 9:03Speaker 4: You said, what he was with the Raiders. He was
- 9:07Speaker 4: with the Raiders in O four. And you know John.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Lynch, I played against John Lynch. John Lynch is a
- 9:11Speaker 2: GM Now. I used to go to John Lynch's Golf
- 9:14Speaker 2: Golf Classic in Rancho Cucamonga, you know, and down in
- 9:17Speaker 2: San Diego.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Like right, it's like, it's crazy to see all these
- 9:22Speaker 4: guys in and it was, but it's also beautiful because
- 9:28Speaker 4: it's a it's literally some of the greatest cross sections
- 9:31Speaker 4: of our sport history that was represented in that room,
- 9:36Speaker 4: and it was just a beautiful sight to see. Like
- 9:40Speaker 4: like I went to school with Thrman Thomas's kids, you know,
- 9:43Speaker 4: and I watched Thurman play Wow, you know, and Sap
- 9:46Speaker 4: SAPs from right up the way in Plymouth, Florida, which
- 9:49Speaker 4: is right outside of a Papka, which is right outside
- 9:52Speaker 4: of Orlando.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Like I I remember when.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Sap what was playing, and so it's just a really
- 9:58Speaker 4: cool and Richard Seymour took me on my official visit
- 10:02Speaker 4: at University of Georgia. You know what I'm saying, Like,
- 10:05Speaker 4: it's yeah, so it's like it's wild to see these
- 10:09Speaker 4: guys in this position. I mean, Jared Allen and I
- 10:12Speaker 4: used to roll around an mm A practice in the
- 10:15Speaker 4: off season, like when we were young pups, you know what.
- 10:17Speaker 4: And so I'm just I was really blessed and it
- 10:20Speaker 4: just gave me a lot of pride just to see
- 10:23Speaker 4: the guys going in and to see the guys.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Are already in there, just all surrounded.
- 10:28Speaker 4: I mean, Joe Thomas was there, and I remember Joe,
- 10:31Speaker 4: you know, but you feel like Joe played for the
- 10:33Speaker 4: Browns for like thirty five years, you know what I'm saying.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Like it was like every w he was the only
- 10:39Speaker 2: iron Man, him and Jim Brown. That was it.
- 10:42Speaker 4: But but he has a farm and they supplied the
- 10:46Speaker 4: meat for the dinner. You know, they supplied the beef
- 10:49Speaker 4: for the Hall of Fame, for the Gold Jacket ceremony dinner.
- 10:52Speaker 4: So that was like crazy to think, you know, he
- 10:54Speaker 4: has a farm in Wisconsin with all his cattle and
- 10:57Speaker 4: was able to provide the meal. So it's just it
- 11:00Speaker 4: was just those type of moments, those type of occasions,
- 11:04Speaker 4: and it's just where football. You kind of take a
- 11:06Speaker 4: breath and look back at the grandeur of this game,
- 11:09Speaker 4: the history of this game, and the significance of this game.
- 11:12Speaker 4: And also, you know, it's the official kickoff of the
- 11:15Speaker 4: NFL football season when the Hall of Fame activities, not
- 11:19Speaker 4: only the game, but the activities around the Hall of
- 11:22Speaker 4: Fame come into purview because that's the official start of
- 11:26Speaker 4: preseason and that means football is now back and dominates
- 11:29Speaker 4: our lives for the next few months.
- 11:32Speaker 6: Yeah, it is.
- 11:33Speaker 5: It's wonderful. It is such a great kickoff. It's an
- 11:36Speaker 5: awesome place. You know, you can always you can find
- 11:39Speaker 5: us one since to swing by on the way there.
- 11:42Speaker 5: Always good. Have you been to those, Max?
- 11:44Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I've been to Swinsons, but I was more
- 11:47Speaker 4: I was more intrigued by the handles ice cream.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Uh that that that that.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Sustained me on my drive. So I'm really appreciated of
- 11:55Speaker 4: the of those. Yeah, because I had the dinner I
- 11:58Speaker 4: had had at the Hall of Fame beef from Joe Thomas,
- 12:01Speaker 4: So you know, I couldn't necessarily have a Slinsons burger,
- 12:04Speaker 4: you know after that, U that would ruin the short
- 12:07Speaker 4: rid that they provided.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Oh yeah, we see the chef or something.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Joe Thomas, No, he wasn't the chef, but he was
- 12:14Speaker 4: a he's a cattle rancher. Now he does Hall of
- 12:16Speaker 4: Fame Farms and they and they produce a certified Angus beef.
- 12:21Speaker 4: So yeah, his his farms was the one that supplied
- 12:24Speaker 4: the beef for the event.
- 12:28Speaker 5: That is tremendous.
- 12:29Speaker 6: That is so good.
- 12:30Speaker 5: Why would you go anywhere else? Right?
- 12:32Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, a Hall of Fame dinner from a Hall
- 12:34Speaker 4: of Famer, you know, get the get the beef from
- 12:36Speaker 4: the Hall of Famer, you know.
- 12:38Speaker 5: So Max, yesterday we both agreed, probably without I mean
- 12:45Speaker 5: just sort of, I don't know, we agreed that.
- 12:48Speaker 6: If you make the All Decade Team, you.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Probably belong in the Hall of Fame. I Actually, I
- 12:53Speaker 5: think we got a little stronger than that. I think
- 12:55Speaker 5: we said you belong in the Hall of Fame.
- 12:57Speaker 4: And all the guys that got selected yesterday are all
- 13:01Speaker 4: numbers of All Decade teams.
- 13:04Speaker 5: Okay, So here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna do
- 13:07Speaker 5: two things to have a little Hall of Fame chat,
- 13:09Speaker 5: and then we'll turn our attention to the Steelers and
- 13:11Speaker 5: what's going on tonight in Latrobe. A fun night for fans,
- 13:16Speaker 5: fun night, I think for the team and the players.
- 13:19Speaker 6: So two things.
- 13:20Speaker 5: One, ESPN came out with a list of players from
- 13:25Speaker 5: each team who are shoeings for the Hall of Fame
- 13:28Speaker 5: and who are on the cusp of the Hall of
- 13:30Speaker 5: Fame maybe need some work to get into the Hall
- 13:32Speaker 5: of Fame. I want to go over that list with you,
- 13:35Speaker 5: and then I want to take your era. So you
- 13:38Speaker 5: you you know, you're one of those guys. You played
- 13:40Speaker 5: in the aughts and you played in the tens, so
- 13:44Speaker 5: that's you know, we I think we touched on that briefly.
- 13:47Speaker 5: Maybe it was Wess and because Wes and I dug
- 13:49Speaker 5: into the twenty ten All Decade Team ten to twenty,
- 13:54Speaker 5: that was I think Wes's probably Wes's heyday. I want
- 13:57Speaker 5: to go back to your heyday as a player. You
- 13:59Speaker 5: did play in the tens, but I'm gonna go into
- 14:01Speaker 5: that earlier decade now. Again, keep in mind, there are
- 14:05Speaker 5: guys that are just in that awkward place. If you
- 14:08Speaker 5: played from two thousand and five to twenty fifteen, if
- 14:11Speaker 5: you played from two thousand and six to twenty fifteen,
- 14:15Speaker 5: it's hard to make either all decade teams.
- 14:17Speaker 6: So the question.
- 14:18Speaker 5: And then what that also does is, first of all,
- 14:21Speaker 5: it removes you from the possibility perhaps of making an
- 14:24Speaker 5: All Decade team, unless you're just over the top brilliant.
- 14:27Speaker 6: But if you're merely great, right.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Which is still good enough for the Hall of Fame,
- 14:33Speaker 5: you could be precluded from being on that team by
- 14:34Speaker 5: the same token that might get somebody onto the team
- 14:38Speaker 5: that maybe not wouldn't match up against one of those
- 14:41Speaker 5: sort of scraddling players. So we have a lot to
- 14:43Speaker 5: unpack here, Max. We're gonna go through the twenty ten
- 14:47Speaker 5: All Decade or two thousand to twenty ten All Decade team,
- 14:51Speaker 5: prime of your career.
- 14:53Speaker 6: We're gonna go through.
- 14:54Speaker 5: The Hall of Famers and non Hall of famers. We're
- 14:56Speaker 5: gonna kind of get your feeling on are there some
- 14:59Speaker 5: oversight here in the Hall of Fame? And we're all
- 15:01Speaker 5: still going to look at the Steelers guys who, according
- 15:04Speaker 5: to ESPN, are either in the Hall of Fame or
- 15:07Speaker 5: on the cusp of the Hall of Fame. And then
- 15:09Speaker 5: we'll turn our attention to the night practice scrimmage, that
- 15:15Speaker 5: sort of thing tonight in La Trobe. So that's what's
- 15:19Speaker 5: on the docket when we continue here, By the way,
- 15:22Speaker 5: thanks to Ed Truth for filling in for a few minutes.
- 15:24Speaker 5: That's much appreciated. Ed doing a great job, So thank
- 15:27Speaker 5: you Ed. Max Starks and I I'm Rob Kink. He's
- 15:30Speaker 5: Max Starks. We will be back in the locker room
- 15:33Speaker 5: right after this here on the Steelers Audio Network.

- 16:42Speaker 4: Kinger you good, Yes, sir, I'm awesome, awesome, awesome, Yeah,
- 16:49Speaker 4: Now you were talking about this let's let's let's go
- 16:51Speaker 4: in in the exercise that you wanted to present for
- 16:54Speaker 4: this segment.
- 16:55Speaker 7: I can't wait, okay, So let's start with the Wheelers, who,
- 17:01Speaker 7: according to ESPN, are in the Hall of Fame.
- 17:06Speaker 5: Maybe have some work to do, that.
- 17:08Speaker 6: Sort of thing.
- 17:09Speaker 5: So no surprise, Aaron Rodgers TJ. Watt as definitely guys
- 17:17Speaker 5: who are going to be in the Hall of Fame.
- 17:20Speaker 5: So it says Rogers requires no discussion. What Meanwhile, it
- 17:25Speaker 5: was solid as a rookie in twenty seventeen, then emerges
- 17:28Speaker 5: a star near two. He made eight straight Pro balls,
- 17:31Speaker 5: then a first team All Pro four times, one Defensive
- 17:33Speaker 5: Player of the Year in twenty twenty one. Regular season
- 17:37Speaker 5: resume obviously hasn't won a playoff game, yet regular season
- 17:39Speaker 5: resume is sufficiently substantial to ensure that he will join
- 17:43Speaker 5: JJ Watt and becoming the second set of brothers in
- 17:46Speaker 5: the Hall of Fame.
- 17:47Speaker 6: No argument there, correct.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Yep, correct.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Okay, So those guys are shoeings. Now it gets a
- 17:55Speaker 5: little more interesting to me because they have Cam Hayward
- 18:00Speaker 5: and Jalen Ramsey as on the CUSP. So he says, hey,
- 18:07Speaker 5: I covered Ramsey. I had covered Hayward's case. Last week,
- 18:10Speaker 5: Ramsey ad eight time Pro bowler, three time First Team
- 18:13Speaker 5: All Pro who was one of the best players in
- 18:14Speaker 5: a Super Bowl winning defense in Los Angeles. So the
- 18:18Speaker 5: difference between his resume and Watts really is the defensive
- 18:23Speaker 5: player of the year and TJ has one more First
- 18:28Speaker 5: Team All Pro selection, So it says if Ramsey can
- 18:33Speaker 5: manage another first Team All Pro appearance or push his
- 18:36Speaker 5: career deep into his thirties, he has a chance.
- 18:41Speaker 6: So I think this.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Is really interesting because I think both guys have very,
- 18:46Speaker 5: very very good credentials to get themselves into the Hall
- 18:50Speaker 5: of Fame.
- 18:51Speaker 4: I do too, And I think the other thing that they,
- 18:53Speaker 4: you know, they kind of discount, which is weighed heavily,
- 18:56Speaker 4: is he has a Super Bowl ring as well.
- 18:58Speaker 2: For Jalen rings, right, So I think that.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Kind of washes out the extra All Pro nod because
- 19:06Speaker 4: he has that Super Bowl ring, and that is one
- 19:08Speaker 4: of those X factor stats that you were considered one
- 19:13Speaker 4: of the top two to three defenders.
- 19:15Speaker 2: On a team that had a very dominant.
- 19:19Speaker 4: Defensive performance in the Super Bowl, you know, And so
- 19:23Speaker 4: I think so for Jalen Ramsey, I think that kind
- 19:25Speaker 4: of pushes him a little bit ahead of the CUSP
- 19:28Speaker 4: category from that respect. So yeah, I think if Jalen
- 19:33Speaker 4: just hasn't pretty much finished with a solid year, whether
- 19:36Speaker 4: it's this year and next year or however much longer,
- 19:39Speaker 4: but you just have solid years and you're still a
- 19:42Speaker 4: starter capable.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Guy, I believe he's more than a CUSP guy.
- 19:46Speaker 5: Now.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Do I think he's first ballot Absolutely not. And I
- 19:48Speaker 4: think you know when you make the reference to Aaron
- 19:50Speaker 4: Rodgers and TJ yes, those are the first ballot nods.
- 19:53Speaker 4: But I think Jalen Ramsey like like we just watched
- 19:56Speaker 4: with a Luke Keakley that just went in yesterday, right,
- 19:58Speaker 4: he just got his gold jacket. You know, seven of
- 20:00Speaker 4: his eight seasons he had one hundred tackles, and yes
- 20:03Speaker 4: he was a pro bowler for seven of those years
- 20:06Speaker 4: and Rookie of the Year. But you know, there is
- 20:10Speaker 4: you know, there doesn't necessarily have to be a long
- 20:12Speaker 4: career to justify Jalen Ramsey. He's got eight Pro Bowls
- 20:15Speaker 4: in his career, he's got three All Pros, he has
- 20:18Speaker 4: the Super Bowl Championship. He's considered, he was considered at
- 20:21Speaker 4: one time, you know a certain stretch of about three
- 20:23Speaker 4: year stretch where he was one of the best corners
- 20:26Speaker 4: in the league. So and a guy that could probably
- 20:28Speaker 4: play and that showed versatility and played multiple positions within
- 20:31Speaker 4: the defensive structure. So you know, I look at that
- 20:35Speaker 4: and I'm like that, that's a tough that's a tough Cusp.
- 20:38Speaker 2: If you're talking.
- 20:39Speaker 4: About Cusp, I think he's one that gets in after
- 20:42Speaker 4: you know, two maybe three tries.
- 20:45Speaker 5: You know. So I think it's gonna be very interesting
- 20:49Speaker 5: if Cam has one or two more type years like
- 20:54Speaker 5: he had a year ago, I think he could make
- 20:59Speaker 5: in all deck team. So when you talk about all
- 21:02Speaker 5: decade teams and the importance of all decade teams, we're
- 21:05Speaker 5: kind of circling back to this. So I look at
- 21:08Speaker 5: a guy like, for example, Geno Atkins. So Geno Atkins
- 21:12Speaker 5: came into the NFL in twenty ten and obviously was
- 21:17Speaker 5: a tremendous player, no question about Gino. He came in
- 21:21Speaker 5: a year before Cam Heyward. Now again, here's your other question.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Does the decade start with a zero and end with
- 21:29Speaker 5: a nine or start with a one and end with
- 21:30Speaker 5: a zero? And honestly, it sounds silly, but that's important
- 21:36Speaker 5: when it comes to how many All pros or something
- 21:39Speaker 5: does a player have. So Geno Atkins, great player again,
- 21:44Speaker 5: great player, not in the Hall of Fame, but a
- 21:46Speaker 5: great player.
- 21:47Speaker 6: Eight not in the Hall of Fame yet.
- 21:48Speaker 5: Eight time Pro Bowler okay, two time first team All Pro,
- 21:54Speaker 5: and one time second team All Pro.
- 21:57Speaker 6: Okay.
- 21:58Speaker 5: So that's his resume. Here's the difference between he and
- 22:02Speaker 5: Cam Hayward. Is that Cam Hayward, you know, hit his
- 22:06Speaker 5: prime in two thousand and seventeen, right, and you know
- 22:12Speaker 5: he had some very very good seasons in which he
- 22:16Speaker 5: was being listed as a defensive end and not as
- 22:19Speaker 5: a defensive tackle. And you know, again there's sort of
- 22:23Speaker 5: a silly label, right that says, Okay, well, we're gonna
- 22:29Speaker 5: compare him to other defensive ends. Well, guess what those
- 22:32Speaker 5: other defensive ends are playing four to three their rush
- 22:35Speaker 5: ends they're getting they're piling up fourteen fifteen sacks and
- 22:40Speaker 5: making Pro Bowl teams. So that didn't happen with Cam
- 22:45Speaker 5: until he had twelve sacks, which is amazing from where
- 22:49Speaker 5: he's playing defensively, you know, an inside rusher, I mean,
- 22:53Speaker 5: that's an incredible thing. So he didn't start making Pro
- 22:58Speaker 5: Ball teams until two thousand seventeen, in which he made
- 23:02Speaker 5: the Pro Bowl and was an All Pro one. So
- 23:07Speaker 5: Gino Atkins was an All Pro one twice and made
- 23:10Speaker 5: the All Decades Team. Cam Hayward didn't make the All
- 23:14Speaker 5: Decades team from twenty too, from twenty ten to twenty nineteen,
- 23:19Speaker 5: but he's already racked up four Pro Bowls in this decade,
- 23:23Speaker 5: four Pro Bowls. He's a two time All Pro One
- 23:28Speaker 5: in this decade, a four time All Pro one altogether.
- 23:31Speaker 5: But his greatness, his peak straddled twenty twenty. So he's
- 23:35Speaker 5: one of those guys exactly like we're talking about with
- 23:39Speaker 5: the All Decades teams. Now, some of it's when they
- 23:42Speaker 5: come into the league, but for Cam it was the
- 23:44Speaker 5: recognition coming later in his career. So all this damage
- 23:48Speaker 5: that he's done, you know, the different Pro Bowl appearances
- 23:51Speaker 5: for him, and he's one off against seven Pro Bowls,
- 23:55Speaker 5: four first team All Pros, two second team All Pros.
- 23:59Speaker 5: Those have all happened since twenty seventeen. If the decade
- 24:03Speaker 5: started in twenty seventeen and ended in twenty twenty six,
- 24:07Speaker 5: he would be, no doubt on the All Decade Team,
- 24:10Speaker 5: no question, he'd be on the All Decade Team. As
- 24:13Speaker 5: in is he didn't make the last one, and I'm
- 24:16Speaker 5: not sure if he's gonna make this one because of
- 24:18Speaker 5: his career straddling, his greatness on the peak of his
- 24:21Speaker 5: career straddling at twenty twenty mark.
- 24:25Speaker 4: And you also have to throw in Walter Payton Man
- 24:27Speaker 4: of the Year. That's another award accolade that gets weighed
- 24:30Speaker 4: into that that happened in the twenty twenties, right, So
- 24:35Speaker 4: you know, it's it's one of those It's tough because
- 24:38Speaker 4: like you go from that and you say all decades,
- 24:41Speaker 4: team is a shoe in you know, in a lot
- 24:44Speaker 4: of cases, but you're absolutely right, Like the dominance that
- 24:48Speaker 4: happens is you.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Fall in that gap area.
- 24:51Speaker 4: But I think for Cam it's not a matter of
- 24:55Speaker 4: if it will be a win thing for him, but
- 24:58Speaker 4: I think he will have a lot lesser weight than
- 25:03Speaker 4: a lot of guys just because, like you said, there's
- 25:05Speaker 4: a recency element to it, and like you said, he
- 25:08Speaker 4: did it in two different decades and that that comes
- 25:12Speaker 4: down to, you know, for him, who else is going
- 25:14Speaker 4: to be on that list at the time. You know,
- 25:17Speaker 4: is it going to be someone who you know, who's
- 25:22Speaker 4: going to have a stronger resume when Cam hangs it
- 25:25Speaker 4: up and then hits the five year mark, right, you know,
- 25:27Speaker 4: are there unanimous first ballot guys that are going to
- 25:30Speaker 4: come off the board the same time as him?
- 25:33Speaker 2: And so I think that's really what it is.
- 25:35Speaker 4: It's a shell game like Alan Fanica, Right, Alan Fanica
- 25:38Speaker 4: had the same thing where he waited and waited even
- 25:40Speaker 4: though the credentials were undeniable. But Allen was one of
- 25:43Speaker 4: those guys came in in ninety eight when he was
- 25:46Speaker 4: drafted immediate impact, you know, all rookie team and then,
- 25:50Speaker 4: like you said, started making Pro Bowls consistently and then
- 25:53Speaker 4: slipped into the two thousands and then still had a
- 25:56Speaker 4: good start to his career in the two thousands, and
- 26:00Speaker 4: I think that's kind of where we land in this process.
- 26:04Speaker 4: But you know, eventually it did happen, right, It did
- 26:08Speaker 4: finally come into fruition because he was a guy who
- 26:13Speaker 4: was a first team All Decades team in the two thousands, right,
- 26:16Speaker 4: And so you know that's one of those where you
- 26:19Speaker 4: can kind of dominate a majority and the front end,
- 26:22Speaker 4: which I think that's what Cam has.
- 26:23Speaker 2: On his side.
- 26:24Speaker 4: He dominated the beginning of the twenty twenties and has
- 26:28Speaker 4: been a you know, a constant fixture through over half
- 26:30Speaker 4: of it. We're down in the twenty twenty six, twenty
- 26:32Speaker 4: twenty seven season, so we are, you know, three corps,
- 26:36Speaker 4: you know, two thirds of the way almost almost three
- 26:39Speaker 4: cords of the way through the twenty twenty decades. And
- 26:42Speaker 4: he's still a significant player and still a face on
- 26:45Speaker 4: this franchise.
- 26:47Speaker 5: It is baffling to me that Alan Fannik had to
- 26:51Speaker 5: wait that long.
- 26:53Speaker 6: I can't for the life of meat.
- 26:55Speaker 5: I mean, I don't understand how you can have, you know,
- 26:57Speaker 5: really a much better resume than Allen had. You know
- 27:02Speaker 5: what I mean. I mean, you know, here's a guy
- 27:03Speaker 5: who who won a Super Bowl. He was a nine
- 27:06Speaker 5: time Pro Bowl. He was in eight six, six time
- 27:10Speaker 5: first team All Pro, a second time, a two times
- 27:12Speaker 5: second team All Pro. I mean, just a stretch of
- 27:15Speaker 5: dominance in which he was the top one or two
- 27:18Speaker 5: guards in the NFL for a decade. I don't know
- 27:21Speaker 5: why that makes you wait and I understand and why.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Went in before him?
- 27:27Speaker 4: So that that's my biggest gripe is that Hutchinson went
- 27:30Speaker 4: in before him. I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 27:33Speaker 4: I don't you know, stealer bias, whatever you want to say.
- 27:36Speaker 2: I'm like, he was better than Steve Hudginson.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Now, granted they're both in now, so it's like, are
- 27:40Speaker 4: we really arguing which marbles in front of the other.
- 27:43Speaker 4: But at the time, Steve Hudginson was in and Alan
- 27:48Speaker 4: Fanica was not in, and it was just it was
- 27:50Speaker 4: just mind baffling how this decision making process came to be.
- 27:56Speaker 4: But but yeah, but once again he's in and and
- 28:01Speaker 4: he made it. But you're right, it was just it
- 28:02Speaker 4: was way too long. I mean, he should have been
- 28:04Speaker 4: first or second ballot easily.
- 28:06Speaker 5: Yes, Well, those two were contemporaries, and they were the
- 28:11Speaker 5: two best guards in the game, right they were contemporaries,
- 28:13Speaker 5: And those are your two best guys, right, one playing
- 28:16Speaker 5: in the NFC for a large part of his career.
- 28:19Speaker 5: I always say to him as Minnesota. I know he
- 28:21Speaker 5: played with Seattle and he was.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Transition tag contract. I'll never forget that, Steve.
- 28:28Speaker 6: Yeah, how about that?
- 28:30Speaker 5: Yeah he was you know, so AFC NFC, the two
- 28:34Speaker 5: best guys, no doubt why one gets in and the other.
- 28:37Speaker 5: I mean, okay, okay, so one more first team All
- 28:39Speaker 5: Pro for Hutchinson, But one more Pro Bowl for Allen,
- 28:43Speaker 5: so a little bit longer prime. I just again, I
- 28:47Speaker 5: don't know how they make these decisions. I do get that,
- 28:51Speaker 5: you know, it feels like you can be and I
- 28:55Speaker 5: know it's it underscores the important to think about this
- 28:58Speaker 5: as you're not comparing apples to apples. You truly are
- 29:02Speaker 5: never are in any sport. You know, you guy's a
- 29:04Speaker 5: great defensive shortstop. Maybe he's not putting up the numbers
- 29:08Speaker 5: of a right fielder, but that right fielder maybe's kind
- 29:10Speaker 5: of a statue out there, you know, so he's not
- 29:12Speaker 5: adding anything other than the that. And so you're trying
- 29:14Speaker 5: to figure out all these different things, and we understand
- 29:16Speaker 5: where the game is gone. You know, quarterbacks, receivers, edge rushers,
- 29:21Speaker 5: running backs, you know, guards and centers. You know, offensive tackles, guards, centers,
- 29:27Speaker 5: defensive tackles. These guys, it's it's it's a weight. It's
- 29:33Speaker 5: harder for those guys to get in the Hall of Fame,
- 29:35Speaker 5: not because they're not great players, but because of the
- 29:38Speaker 5: nature of the position that they play.
- 29:41Speaker 4: No, absolutely, I'm in agreeance with you that it is
- 29:45Speaker 4: a tougher metric and like, oh well, there's so many
- 29:47Speaker 4: but I mean, but when you think about it, you
- 29:49Speaker 4: look at it, if you make the All Decade team,
- 29:52Speaker 4: think about this, all four guards are in the All
- 29:55Speaker 4: Decade team and in the All Decade Team are in
- 29:58Speaker 4: the Hall of Fame from the two thousands because Larry
- 30:01Speaker 4: Allen and Will Shields were the other two guards.
- 30:04Speaker 5: And ahead to look at it, you're not sneaking ahead,
- 30:07Speaker 5: are you for our next topic?
- 30:09Speaker 2: No? No, I'm just talking about the two thousands. It's
- 30:10Speaker 2: talking about the two thousands.
- 30:11Speaker 5: Okay, that's the case.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Yeah, because that's that's the case that we make is
- 30:16Speaker 4: how tough it is to get in. But when you
- 30:18Speaker 4: look back on that list, it's like we all four
- 30:21Speaker 4: of them made it in.
- 30:21Speaker 2: There's only two per team. It all four of them
- 30:24Speaker 2: made it in. So what what's what's like that criteria
- 30:28Speaker 2: for being in those moments? So yeah, you're absolutely right.
- 30:31Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's one of those that it's still
- 30:34Speaker 4: a head scratcher.
- 30:36Speaker 5: So this is just to finish off the ESPN thinking
- 30:40Speaker 5: we're running a little bit long and we might have
- 30:41Speaker 5: to go a little bit long on the two thousands team,
- 30:43Speaker 5: but work to do, okay. Troytanu, Zach Fraser, DK Metcalf
- 30:51Speaker 5: Joey Porter Jr. Well, look, I'm just fullish on Fraser
- 30:55Speaker 5: and Porter, but work to do, my goodness, I mean,
- 30:58Speaker 5: these guys, you know, you have to start making teams
- 31:00Speaker 5: and that sort of thing.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and you're like your second and third years in
- 31:04Speaker 2: the league.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Yeah. So he says, I'm excited about about time to
- 31:08Speaker 5: win praise with the young offensive lineman in Pittsburgh. Better
- 31:11Speaker 5: receiver metcalst is on the cuff. Metcalf is on the
- 31:14Speaker 5: cusp of falling out of Hall of Fame consideration, entirely
- 31:17Speaker 5: given that he's almost twenty nine with only two Pro
- 31:20Speaker 5: Bowls to his name. Metcalf's thirteen hundred and three receiving
- 31:23Speaker 5: yard season in twenty twenty also looks like a bit
- 31:26Speaker 5: of an outlier, since he hasn't come within one hundred
- 31:28Speaker 5: and fifty yards of that total and any even the
- 31:30Speaker 5: other six campaigns. The haul of very good might be beckoning
- 31:33Speaker 5: for the six or four inch wide out, but let's
- 31:35Speaker 5: see what he does in twenty twenty six. I agree,
- 31:38Speaker 5: Let's see what he does in twenty twenty six. And
- 31:40Speaker 5: as for the other guys, let's see what take two
- 31:42Speaker 5: over the next half a dozen seasons.
- 31:44Speaker 6: You know what I mean.
- 31:46Speaker 5: You know, I'm bullish on all those guys, but I
- 31:49Speaker 5: think they're just trying to round out the article. When
- 31:51Speaker 5: you're talking about young guys who are still on their
- 31:53Speaker 5: first contract and still waiting to get into that first
- 31:56Speaker 5: Pro Bowl.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, this is this is this is a very
- 32:00Speaker 4: uh yeah, it's it's.
- 32:01Speaker 2: A long shot, premature.
- 32:04Speaker 5: It's premature.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Sure, that's all the work to do.
- 32:08Speaker 4: And let's talk about the current roster too, so not
- 32:11Speaker 4: even talking about historically Steelers.
- 32:13Speaker 2: So yeah, okay, oh yeah, I know, I know, we
- 32:16Speaker 2: got I was like, there's a lot of names left
- 32:18Speaker 2: off this list. Get in here cold.
- 32:21Speaker 4: But we're talking about the current roster of guys, how
- 32:23Speaker 4: it how it shapes ounds, So.
- 32:25Speaker 2: I get it now.
- 32:26Speaker 4: I think that's where I kind of got a little
- 32:28Speaker 4: confused because I was waiting to hear it. I'm like,
- 32:30Speaker 4: there's some names that were left off that list. But yeah,
- 32:32Speaker 4: you're absolutely right. So for the current roster of guys, yes,
- 32:36Speaker 4: I would agree that this is it.
- 32:38Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, yeah, I'm sorry.
- 32:40Speaker 5: I just speaking of twenty twenty sixteen and that current roster.
- 32:43Speaker 5: We are going to get their max. But I have
- 32:45Speaker 5: to run this with the Hall of Fame fresh in
- 32:48Speaker 5: our minds and Max coming back from his pilgrimage. I'm sorry,
- 32:50Speaker 5: didn't mean to rupt your Max, but I'm excited. I'm excited.
- 32:54Speaker 5: I want there are some guys on that Decade See
- 32:57Speaker 5: All Decade Team who aren't in the Hall of Fame,
- 33:00Speaker 5: and I want to get your feeling as to whether
- 33:01Speaker 5: those guys are going to be in the Hall of
- 33:03Speaker 5: Fame or whether they belong in the Hall of Fame,
- 33:05Speaker 5: because we just sort of blithely said yesterday, if you
- 33:08Speaker 5: make the All Decades Team, you should be in. Well
- 33:11Speaker 5: a lot of them are, but a few of them are.
- 33:13Speaker 5: So Max is going to go over that with you
- 33:15Speaker 5: when we continue in the locker room here on the
- 33:18Speaker 5: Steelers Audio Network.

- 34:33Speaker 5: went in as a as a producer, Max Is. That
- 34:36Speaker 5: was that his title. Nope, thing, It was Max's uh produce,
- 34:48Speaker 5: Max's agent's father who went in as as one of
- 34:52Speaker 5: the a great produce. I believe the title was producer.
- 34:56Speaker 5: But he brought us uh Madden in summer all, which
- 35:00Speaker 5: is enough. But he also revolutionized a lot of the way.
- 35:04Speaker 6: You know, camera.
- 35:04Speaker 5: Angles were set up and different things were shot a
- 35:07Speaker 5: little bit wider camera angle, so you weren't just seeing
- 35:10Speaker 5: like the quarterback and the line of scrimmage. You got
- 35:13Speaker 5: a little bit wider view. And of course the groundbreaking
- 35:17Speaker 5: duo of some are all in madd and the greatest
- 35:20Speaker 5: I mean, we made the comparison. I made the comparison
- 35:23Speaker 5: the analogy to the Beatles. You know, somebody's got to
- 35:26Speaker 5: be first, somebody's got to set the set them, you know,
- 35:29Speaker 5: create the mold, and then after that it's just hard
- 35:32Speaker 5: to be It's hard to be that innovated because you know,
- 35:35Speaker 5: there's only so much you can innovate. Those guys were
- 35:37Speaker 5: way out in front of everybody else. So we are
- 35:40Speaker 5: talking about Max and I when we're talking about the
- 35:42Speaker 5: Hall of Fame, because Max was heading that way during
- 35:46Speaker 5: yesterday's show. So before Max hopping the car and drove
- 35:48Speaker 5: the Canton, we just both agreed that, hey, if you
- 35:51Speaker 5: make the All Decade Team, you should be in the
- 35:54Speaker 5: Hall of Fame. And I think this is so West
- 36:00Speaker 5: and West filled in after Richd. Max came on before
- 36:03Speaker 5: his great show, The Drive of Matt Williamson, and we
- 36:05Speaker 5: kicked around the twenty tens All Decade Team and agreed
- 36:11Speaker 5: that there were players that probably weren't going to get
- 36:14Speaker 5: into the Hall of Fame. So the question now becomes,
- 36:17Speaker 5: does everybody on this list belong in the Hall of
- 36:23Speaker 5: Fame or are there guys just because you made the
- 36:25Speaker 5: All Decades Team, maybe you don't make the Hall of Fame.
- 36:29Speaker 5: So I think this is a question and this so
- 36:32Speaker 5: Max is one of those players careerstraddled both decades, but
- 36:36Speaker 5: largely is a two thousands sort of guy. So I
- 36:41Speaker 5: think that that's you know. And we did the twenty
- 36:44Speaker 5: ten's yesterday with Wes and again found some people that
- 36:47Speaker 5: we thought, well, I don't know, So we're gonna go
- 36:49Speaker 5: to the two thousands and run through these guys. Who's
- 36:53Speaker 5: in the Hall of Fame and whether somebody else deserves
- 36:58Speaker 5: to be in the Hall of Fame, who isn't in
- 36:59Speaker 5: the Hall of Fame yet will eventually be in the
- 37:01Speaker 5: Hall of Fame, Who isn't in the Hall of Fame yet?
- 37:04Speaker 5: So here are the the the two thousand Pro Football
- 37:08Speaker 5: Hall of Fame, all two thousand teams. So we started
- 37:12Speaker 5: the quarterbacks first team. Let's preface this is the first
- 37:15Speaker 5: gonna run. We're gonna run.
- 37:17Speaker 6: We're gonna run both.
- 37:18Speaker 5: Okay, okay, okay, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning. Manning's in. Brady's
- 37:24Speaker 5: not not in yet because he hasn't had the chance
- 37:27Speaker 5: to get in.
- 37:28Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I think yeah, because yeah, he's what twenty
- 37:32Speaker 4: twenty eight is first eligible.
- 37:35Speaker 5: I'm not sure when it is, but I know, whenever
- 37:37Speaker 5: it is, he's going in.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, first ballot.
- 37:41Speaker 5: First ballot, he's you know, he's he's hanging out, uh,
- 37:47Speaker 5: you know, in that very inner sanctum of the Hall
- 37:51Speaker 5: of Fame. You know what I mean, Like if there's
- 37:53Speaker 5: a there's a dining room in the center of the ballroom.
- 37:56Speaker 5: You know, Mel Blunt saying out there, you know, Joe
- 37:59Speaker 5: Green hanging out there, Lawrence Taylor's hanging out there, Tom
- 38:04Speaker 5: Brady's hanging out there.
- 38:05Speaker 6: He just diactly.
- 38:07Speaker 5: You know there are others, but I'm just you know,
- 38:09Speaker 5: he's obvious. Okay, So running backs, first teams, two running backs,
- 38:15Speaker 5: the Danian Tomlinson in the Hall of Fame, Edrin James
- 38:18Speaker 5: in the Hall of Fame. Okay, now here's where it
- 38:21Speaker 5: gets interesting. So we probably should have said, if you
- 38:25Speaker 5: make the first team, you're in. And that's what that's
- 38:29Speaker 5: certainly what I meant, Max, Right, I don't want to
- 38:33Speaker 5: I don't want to go revision this history, but that's
- 38:34Speaker 5: what I meant. If you make the first team All
- 38:37Speaker 5: Decades team, you should be in the Hall of Fame.
- 38:39Speaker 6: Agreed.
- 38:39Speaker 5: Yeah, correct, We're not back pedaling, We're not back.
- 38:42Speaker 2: We're not back peddling, We're just full Okay.
- 38:46Speaker 5: So second team running backs Sean, Alexander, jamal Lewis, neither one.
- 38:55Speaker 5: Neither one is in the Hall of Fame.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Yeah, Hall of very good. Both, Yeah, both of them,
- 39:01Speaker 2: both of them.
- 39:02Speaker 4: I'm putting them both there. And listen, I played against Sean,
- 39:05Speaker 4: you know, super Bowl forty at the height of his powers,
- 39:09Speaker 4: you know, as as just a dominant running back.
- 39:11Speaker 2: But he did fall off.
- 39:13Speaker 4: A cliff when he went to Washington and it wasn't
- 39:17Speaker 4: the sustained success of a Ladanian Tomlinson where yes they
- 39:22Speaker 4: have him listed at the San Diego charge, but he
- 39:25Speaker 4: also went to the Jets as well.
- 39:27Speaker 2: And then Edge was edge man.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Edge did it in Indianapolis, he did it in Arizona,
- 39:32Speaker 4: and and of course we'll know him as an Indiapolis
- 39:35Speaker 4: cult more so than we do as an Arizona cardinal. But
- 39:38Speaker 4: dominated at both and was it was it was in
- 39:42Speaker 4: that that Super Bowl forty three, super Bowl team for
- 39:47Speaker 4: the Cardinals.
- 39:49Speaker 5: You know, it's interesting, is I look at jamal Lewis's career,
- 39:54Speaker 5: lost two thousand and one with an injury, great year
- 39:58Speaker 5: in two thousand and with thirteen sixty four rushing yards.
- 40:01Speaker 5: You just looked at his numbers, you know. And I
- 40:05Speaker 5: probably because he was playing in that Steelers Baltimore rivalry.
- 40:13Speaker 5: At boy, it was certainly the beginning of what I
- 40:17Speaker 5: would call the hatred period of that rivalry, which is
- 40:20Speaker 5: cooled slightly to just massive dislike. But I think the players, yeah,
- 40:26Speaker 5: they just didn't like each other.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Man. It was.
- 40:28Speaker 5: It was one of those kind of games.
- 40:29Speaker 2: No, No, I did not.
- 40:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought Jamal was a terrific back and a
- 40:34Speaker 5: bruising back, and he was a type of back, you
- 40:37Speaker 5: know what I mean. So we talked about like Drin
- 40:40Speaker 5: James and Ladanian Tomlinson putting up these great numbers. Well
- 40:45Speaker 5: they were receiving and they were running, and now were
- 40:48Speaker 5: they being utilized because they had a different skill set
- 40:51Speaker 5: if they were in Baltimore, would they be would they
- 40:54Speaker 5: have been jammed between the tackles against the Steelers? I
- 40:56Speaker 5: don't know. But for for his job, I always thought
- 40:59Speaker 5: the world of Jamal. I always thought he was a
- 41:00Speaker 5: top hard physical runner.
- 41:04Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I completely agree, and and listen and we've
- 41:07Speaker 4: had we had some battles and Joey Porter and him
- 41:10Speaker 4: and had some personal battles on the field pregame and
- 41:12Speaker 4: getting kicked.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Off before the game we started.
- 41:15Speaker 4: He went to Cleveland, So yeah, yeah, I mean, yeah,
- 41:19Speaker 4: there there is, like you said, a specific back. I mean,
- 41:22Speaker 4: for a pure running back, I mean, excellent, excellent player
- 41:28Speaker 4: and and deservedly is is it, you know, is an
- 41:31Speaker 4: all decades team member. But I just don't think the
- 41:34Speaker 4: resume like you said, because of this. I mean, let's
- 41:37Speaker 4: just think about this. Ladenian Towmson, Edger and James went
- 41:39Speaker 4: in before Roger Craig, and Roger Craig was was was
- 41:41Speaker 4: the template that all those guys had their careers afterwards?
- 41:44Speaker 2: Right?
- 41:45Speaker 4: Uh so yeah, so he's like, it's like, hey, can
- 41:49Speaker 4: you hit the a thousand yards receiving a thousand yards
- 41:51Speaker 4: of rushing in the same season? Okay, that that's what
- 41:53Speaker 4: we're trying to do. Edge and Ladanian Roger Craig did
- 41:57Speaker 4: it and still wasn't in the Hall of Fame. But
- 41:58Speaker 4: now he's finally play least rightfully where he deserves. So
- 42:01Speaker 4: I think Jamal Lewis's falls to that pure just running
- 42:05Speaker 4: running back. So you think of you know, but his style,
- 42:09Speaker 4: he was a big, physical, bruising back.
- 42:10Speaker 2: So who's who's the who is the.
- 42:14Speaker 4: Archetype or the prototype that's in the Hall of Fame
- 42:18Speaker 4: that ran the way that he did, you know, And
- 42:21Speaker 4: I think that that that it's tougher to find those
- 42:23Speaker 4: type of guys. I think you have to think of
- 42:24Speaker 4: like a Larry Zanka. Maybe it is probably the closest
- 42:28Speaker 4: to that. John Riggins probably the next closest to that.
- 42:33Speaker 2: And how does he fare against them?
- 42:35Speaker 4: And definitely Jerome Jerome is definitely the prototype for that.
- 42:39Speaker 4: So I mean, so you say, okay, there is a
- 42:40Speaker 4: place for him, right, but do his numbers stack up
- 42:44Speaker 4: against those guys? And well, Jerome Bettis is third all
- 42:47Speaker 4: time rushing leader all time, So uh so.
- 42:51Speaker 2: No in that one.
- 42:54Speaker 4: And then you said Larry Zak Larry Zaca has the
- 42:56Speaker 4: Super Bowls on his side as well in that in
- 43:01Speaker 4: the era that he ran. And so you're like, well, okay,
- 43:06Speaker 4: he falls in the Hall of very good. He's just
- 43:09Speaker 4: that cussy, you know, he's just that that wrung right
- 43:12Speaker 4: below Hall of Fame tier.
- 43:14Speaker 5: So thirteen hundred yards three times and two thousand on
- 43:19Speaker 5: another occasion, so four times the eclipse thirteen hundred yards.
- 43:23Speaker 5: That's awfully good, awfully good. Didn't make a lot of
- 43:26Speaker 5: Pro Bowl teams. And again, sometimes that's the competition you're
- 43:28Speaker 5: up against. I I think, I think he's just short,
- 43:33Speaker 5: but I probably I think one, just one, just one.
- 43:38Speaker 5: Janner had three. It's funny like if I think of
- 43:40Speaker 5: those two, I think of Sean alex I think of
- 43:43Speaker 5: Jamal Lewis is the better running back. But John Alexander
- 43:47Speaker 5: made three Pro Bowls. So his contemporaries h and the
- 43:51Speaker 5: voters said otherwise. I just noticed the time acts. We're
- 43:53Speaker 5: woefully late. Let's take a break, let's come back after
- 43:57Speaker 5: the break, Let's continue this discussion about the twenty tens
- 44:01Speaker 5: All Decade teams. So far. So far, Max, I think
- 44:03Speaker 5: we're batting one thousand first team. If you make a
- 44:06Speaker 5: first team All Decade team, you should be in the
- 44:07Speaker 5: Hall of Fame. So far, I don't have any disagreements
- 44:10Speaker 5: with with what we've come across. We're going to dive
- 44:13Speaker 5: into it further. Also, look forward to the scrimmage tonight
- 44:15Speaker 5: when we continue in the locker room here on the
- 44:17Speaker 5: Steelers Audio Network.
