- 0:13Speaker 1: First Light Go farther, stay longer, and now your hosts,
- 0:18Speaker 1: case Smith and Tyler Jones.
- 0:22Speaker 2: It's a scorture for late October. But don't worry everyone,
- 0:25Speaker 2: the weather is turning. A cold front happens to be
- 0:28Speaker 2: on the way, at least for part of the country.
- 0:29Speaker 3: The dear going nuts. This is Retfresh. Let's go. What's
- 0:48Speaker 3: going on? Everyone?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Welcome to Refresh Radio, brought to you by First Like here,
- 0:51Speaker 2: I'm your host, Casey Smith and Tyler Jones is here
- 0:53Speaker 2: and we are doing the thing.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Guys.
- 0:56Speaker 2: We are in a motail hotel, holiday inn deer hunt,
- 1:01Speaker 2: having the time of our lives, eating peanut butter and
- 1:03Speaker 2: jellies and chasing deer around.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Tyler yide jokes.
- 1:06Speaker 3: We are, man, That's all we do around here.
- 1:08Speaker 2: If you don't laugh, just it's not because it's not funny,
- 1:10Speaker 2: just because you're not a part of it. So the
- 1:15Speaker 2: word on the street is that better deer hunting is
- 1:19Speaker 2: close on the horizon.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Do you believe it. No, Okay, I don't.
- 1:21Speaker 4: That's where you're at.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it does. And this is a neat thing.
- 1:24Speaker 2: And we're gonna hear about this in a little bit
- 1:26Speaker 2: from from the guests today, guys. But there's a weird
- 1:29Speaker 2: thing that's going on right now in the country of
- 1:32Speaker 2: deer hunting, and it's there's regionality to conditions, and we're
- 1:38Speaker 2: gonna spread it out a little bit and talk to
- 1:39Speaker 2: some different people in different parts of the country.
- 1:41Speaker 3: But some of the country is really excited about a
- 1:43Speaker 3: coal front.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Other parts of the country, like where we are, it's
- 1:46Speaker 2: blazing hot, Tyler.
- 1:48Speaker 3: If you're in a blazing hot place, what do you do?
- 1:54Speaker 4: I mean, I'd probably either check out some water or
- 1:58Speaker 4: I would hunt like I did this morning when it
- 2:02Speaker 4: was cooler weather than when I do in the evening.
- 2:05Speaker 4: When I did in the evening, which was last night,
- 2:07Speaker 4: where I did not see a deer.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw a buck last night, but I didn't
- 2:12Speaker 2: see one this morning. How far did that buck move
- 2:14Speaker 2: in daylight last night? In so in shooting light I
- 2:19Speaker 2: saw this deer. I think it was an hour and
- 2:24Speaker 2: twenty minutes before the end of legal shooting light. The
- 2:28Speaker 2: deer came by my stand ten minutes after legal shooting
- 2:32Speaker 2: loight so, and he was how far away he was
- 2:35Speaker 2: eighty two one hundred yards.
- 2:36Speaker 3: When I first saw him.
- 2:38Speaker 2: So now there's a chance he lays like a cormile
- 2:40Speaker 2: the other way and came back. Okay, but that's highly unlikely.
- 2:44Speaker 2: He moved less than sixty yards in the daylight. Yeah,
- 2:47Speaker 2: that's over an hour and a half pretty much.
- 2:50Speaker 4: If the wind ain't blowing pretty strong, it's gonna be
- 2:53Speaker 4: hard to set up within sixty yards of that.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Well, the problem is if I don't known where he was,
- 2:58Speaker 2: then I could have set up well, maybe in a
- 3:00Speaker 2: more advantageous spot. At least I wouldn't have been able
- 3:03Speaker 2: to get a lot closer, But maybe I could have
- 3:05Speaker 2: gotten a spot where I would have had a shot
- 3:06Speaker 2: at him at least before the clock turned to no
- 3:10Speaker 2: longer legal.
- 3:11Speaker 3: But because it was a public.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Land hanging hunt where I was just guessing and putting
- 3:16Speaker 2: together my best thoughts on map scouting and this and that. Yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 2: we saw the deer stand up and rub a tree
- 3:22Speaker 2: for ten minutes, but we didn't know he was there
- 3:24Speaker 2: until he did that, right, And sometimes that's what you
- 3:28Speaker 2: deal with.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Well, there's a high chance he was just laying right
- 3:32Speaker 4: there until he stood up. Huh, because they tend to
- 3:36Speaker 4: do that when they stand up, start rubbing stuff, looking
- 3:39Speaker 4: on branches and stuff.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Let me ask you a question. Your first piece of
- 3:42Speaker 2: advice was to find some water. Are you gonna listen
- 3:45Speaker 2: to that yourself for the evening? Uh?
- 3:47Speaker 4: Huh? Man, that's I'm so confused and not confused. I'm
- 3:50Speaker 4: so far from having a plan for this evening. There's
- 3:55Speaker 4: this thing that most humans will understand and commiserate with
- 3:59Speaker 4: on me or for me or with me or how
- 4:01Speaker 4: have you said? That? This is this thing called work,
- 4:05Speaker 4: And we've been doing it in this midday. In fact,
- 4:08Speaker 4: I have a pretty good idea where a shooter buck
- 4:10Speaker 4: is betted and I have not been able to go
- 4:13Speaker 4: glass and try to stalk in and shoot this buck
- 4:16Speaker 4: because of the hours of work we've been putting in
- 4:19Speaker 4: doing stuff that these people listening are going to listen
- 4:24Speaker 4: to you.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, So if you enjoy Reugh Fresh, just remember Tyler
- 4:28Speaker 2: Jones is not killing a deer just for you right now.
- 4:30Speaker 4: It's it, man. But hey, you know, I mean sometimes
- 4:34Speaker 4: some different types of hunting media are not about killing things.
- 4:38Speaker 3: So it's right.
- 4:40Speaker 2: If that deer stays there all day where you think
- 4:43Speaker 2: he's betted. Is he going to drink water today?
- 4:48Speaker 4: Uh? Man, I I would think if he does not
- 4:54Speaker 4: eat a per simon, he's probably gonna drink water, because
- 4:59Speaker 4: I would during the day you think, though, well, I
- 5:01Speaker 4: don't know about that just in this in this next
- 5:03Speaker 4: twelve hours or so, maybe I would think there's not
- 5:08Speaker 4: enough green stuff around for him to just fully get
- 5:10Speaker 4: what he needs out't want.
- 5:11Speaker 3: It is crispy.
- 5:12Speaker 2: So where we're at in the country, it would seem
- 5:15Speaker 2: that there was a light frost which has killed a
- 5:17Speaker 2: lot of the forbes, a lot of the herbaceous growth.
- 5:19Speaker 3: And you pair that with not.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Extreme drought, but it's drought. It's drier than it should be.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Then you end up with deer that are going to
- 5:30Speaker 2: be looking for something to drink.
- 5:31Speaker 4: I think I wish we had about five more cameras
- 5:34Speaker 4: right now. We could put some on some water, more
- 5:37Speaker 4: stuff like that.
- 5:39Speaker 5: There.
- 5:40Speaker 4: You know, I don't know, we we could. We could
- 5:43Speaker 4: use a lot of cameras right now this time of
- 5:45Speaker 4: the year. It'd be nice to have the ones we've
- 5:47Speaker 4: got out already out and then another five more so
- 5:50Speaker 4: so we want to send us some cameras, it'd be great, Uh,
- 5:53Speaker 4: but I I wish we did because I would put
- 5:56Speaker 4: some on water sources. And then I have a couple
- 5:58Speaker 4: of fence crossing that I'd like to have some some
- 6:01Speaker 4: cameras on as well. Right now.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Interesting because I had one of those fences. What are
- 6:06Speaker 3: those fences separating from it's separating?
- 6:12Speaker 4: This is a good question because I don't know fully,
- 6:15Speaker 4: but it would seem that they're separating food from betting.
- 6:22Speaker 4: But I don't know what the food is. And that's
- 6:26Speaker 4: that's the most confusing part of this.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I've seen. Here's the thing I've seen.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I've seen deer grazing, which I know some just ahead
- 6:33Speaker 2: scientists are going to be like.
- 6:34Speaker 3: A dotal grades. Well I get that. I get it.
- 6:37Speaker 2: They're browsers and they're designed to reach in and grab
- 6:42Speaker 2: the thing they want. When you see a deer with
- 6:44Speaker 2: its head down on the ground, back and forth, deer
- 6:47Speaker 2: is still grazing, even though it's not designed to do it,
- 6:49Speaker 2: you know as efficients So it's it's eating something off
- 6:54Speaker 2: the ground. It's probably not a narrow leafed grass, right,
- 6:57Speaker 2: but there's something down there. But I guess what I'm
- 6:59Speaker 2: trying to tell you I'm kind of missing the point,
- 7:01Speaker 2: so I can make my own I got my own
- 7:02Speaker 2: agenda here, I guess I'd.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Say, but.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I've seen deer grazing two different times in the mornings,
- 7:10Speaker 2: and they're just covering ground, doing figure eights and all
- 7:13Speaker 2: this stuff, just in like.
- 7:15Speaker 4: There's something in a more open grassland that we don't
- 7:18Speaker 4: see that they're eating. Yeah, and I would assume that,
- 7:23Speaker 4: I know, walking in this morning, there was d on
- 7:25Speaker 4: what all the stuff that I was.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Walking I've wanted.
- 7:27Speaker 2: This sounds silly, so you don't ask it, but like,
- 7:30Speaker 2: what are the chances they're like just licking up.
- 7:33Speaker 4: I feel like they're probably eating something but it but
- 7:36Speaker 4: having DO on it makes it more palatable, Yeah, palatable
- 7:40Speaker 4: or preferential or whatever you know. Like, so there's there's
- 7:44Speaker 4: a chance that the reason they've got their head down
- 7:46Speaker 4: in the mornings is because whatever they're eating needs to
- 7:49Speaker 4: be something that has DO on it so they can
- 7:51Speaker 4: get water consumed.
- 7:52Speaker 2: To tell you this, Tyler Jones, if I go too
- 7:55Speaker 2: many more days without having a bucking range, I'm gonna
- 7:58Speaker 2: be stalking one of those dos with their head down.
- 8:00Speaker 4: You had a bucking range last night.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Well it depends on whose range. Oh you mean when
- 8:06Speaker 3: he was it was dark.
- 8:08Speaker 6: We are not.
- 8:10Speaker 3: We're not quite at the Headland Buck stage yet. I
- 8:13Speaker 3: hope never be there again.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Okay, so uh yeah, we're from all legal only activities
- 8:20Speaker 2: here right.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Well they're always asking this, but.
- 8:26Speaker 2: There's bucks around, and I think that that's an encouraging
- 8:29Speaker 2: thing for everyone to hear. Maybe you're not seeing them
- 8:33Speaker 2: right now, but hopefully the information that you've teamed from
- 8:36Speaker 2: Retfresh and then also other podcasts like Marks or like
- 8:39Speaker 2: ours the Element podcast, where we share some pretty good information. Uh,
- 8:42Speaker 2: you can gain some confidence and know that, like, conditions.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Might be bad right now, but what do I do
- 8:47Speaker 3: when they are good?
- 8:48Speaker 2: How do I put myself in the best position possible
- 8:51Speaker 2: to be able to capitalize on the good weather and
- 8:53Speaker 2: the good dates that we have ahead.
- 8:54Speaker 3: So today we're.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Going to talk to a couple of guys around the
- 8:58Speaker 2: country who have a pretty good idea of what's going on.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Who are we talking to you, Tyler Man.
- 9:03Speaker 4: The first guy we've got up is Greg Litzinger. He's
- 9:05Speaker 4: gonna be up in the Old Jersey, Uh, the one,
- 9:08Speaker 4: the new one. You knew exactly where I was going.
- 9:14Speaker 4: We've also got our good friend Drake Lamb. He was
- 9:17Speaker 4: out in Iowa and has been and uh and will
- 9:19Speaker 4: be and uh. Then we've got Adam Keith in Missouri
- 9:23Speaker 4: and Steven Crawford has been into not in the up
- 9:27Speaker 4: but see it all sounds like it's like all the
- 9:29Speaker 4: up to me, you know what I mean, Like that
- 9:31Speaker 4: is a foreign country up the Uh he's in Michigan.
- 9:34Speaker 4: So he's got a report for us there.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Awesome, let's hear what they have to say. I got
- 9:37Speaker 2: my buddy Greg Litzinger on here. He's both hunting fiend
- 9:40Speaker 2: on Instagram. If you don't follow him, he does some
- 9:42Speaker 2: really cool stuff up on the eastern coast. You've been
- 9:46Speaker 2: hunting Jersey a little bit New Jersey, as they say,
- 9:48Speaker 2: right man, what's going on up there?
- 9:51Speaker 4: Uh?
- 9:51Speaker 6: You know it's we had a fantastic cold October until now,
- 9:57Speaker 6: so it was pretty nice.
- 9:59Speaker 4: A lot of deer.
- 10:00Speaker 6: We're moving on a regular basis, and now it's kind
- 10:03Speaker 6: of warmed up. And this week usually as a hot,
- 10:07Speaker 6: hot week, but the bucks are definitely moving less from
- 10:10Speaker 6: my sightings and from I pulled a couple of camera
- 10:13Speaker 6: cars the other day and yesterday actually so there, you know,
- 10:18Speaker 6: but it was a great October, so I can't complain.
- 10:21Speaker 3: That's cool? Are you?
- 10:23Speaker 4: You know?
- 10:23Speaker 2: In this hot weather like this? I know you kind
- 10:25Speaker 2: of hunt two different terrains. Do you spend more time
- 10:28Speaker 2: in the marsh and more time in the mountains. Whenever
- 10:30Speaker 2: it's hot like this, I.
- 10:32Speaker 6: Usually gravitate towards water. So if I can find like
- 10:34Speaker 6: a you know, a stream in the mountains, I don't
- 10:38Speaker 6: mind hunting them, you know. Yeah, it helps with your
- 10:41Speaker 6: thermals and noise and all the other stuff too.
- 10:43Speaker 3: How do you pinport it?
- 10:44Speaker 2: You know, a stream is a big strung out thing,
- 10:46Speaker 2: of course, how do you pinpoint a spot on a
- 10:48Speaker 2: stream that she knows?
- 10:48Speaker 3: A gets spot to hunt deer?
- 10:50Speaker 6: Usually in the mountains, because where it's passable, where the
- 10:55Speaker 6: deer can actually cross without doing too much work, because
- 10:58Speaker 6: they're inherently lazy like us, you know, how to feel
- 11:01Speaker 6: you so.
- 11:03Speaker 4: They can cross easy.
- 11:04Speaker 6: They will, you know, find a shallow spot, you know,
- 11:07Speaker 6: or a spot where they can you know, it's not
- 11:10Speaker 6: as dangerous or treacherous.
- 11:11Speaker 4: If you will. Greg, what's the acorn cross? Looking? Lack up? There?
- 11:16Speaker 4: Not a lot of reds. They were on Reds.
- 11:20Speaker 6: In September, Reds dropped hard early, which was you.
- 11:25Speaker 4: Know, and the white beIN kind of eh.
- 11:28Speaker 6: But the Reds man they were having they've been hamming.
- 11:30Speaker 6: They're still hammering Reds. The Reds seemed to be at
- 11:34Speaker 6: least from where I've been hunting, Reds are definitely the
- 11:37Speaker 6: ticket Reds and permees. Okay, crap ton of percents here
- 11:41Speaker 6: like I've never seen. It's been a long time since
- 11:44Speaker 6: I've seen this many percentmons.
- 11:46Speaker 4: Is there a way to target the the you know,
- 11:49Speaker 4: when you have so many percimmons, how do you target
- 11:52Speaker 4: the right percymetry?
- 11:54Speaker 6: That is uh, that is a million dollar question right there.
- 11:58Speaker 4: I was, I was a glass in this field.
- 12:00Speaker 6: It was like beans had no acorns, so there's a
- 12:03Speaker 6: lot of percimmons and they were hitting the beans and
- 12:06Speaker 6: I'm watching them, you know, I was like, I'm gonna
- 12:08Speaker 6: sit for me three yards away and watch them. One
- 12:10Speaker 6: day they'd come out for the beans. Next day they
- 12:12Speaker 6: come out where the persimmons were. So it was like
- 12:15Speaker 6: and I made a move, and of course, you know
- 12:17Speaker 6: it was a wrong move.
- 12:18Speaker 4: I sat to the persimmons.
- 12:19Speaker 6: They came out the beans, and then we did that
- 12:21Speaker 6: for two or three days, and then the bucks had
- 12:23Speaker 6: enough of that and they're like, yeah, something's not right,
- 12:25Speaker 6: and that was they've completely vacated the area.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I know, the central part of the country's supposed to
- 12:32Speaker 2: get some decent weather here that's weekend.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Are y'all going to get that? Or is that East
- 12:35Speaker 3: Coach is going to keep you warm?
- 12:37Speaker 6: We're going to get I mean a temperature spike is
- 12:40Speaker 6: going to drop like ten degrees. I don't I don't
- 12:42Speaker 6: necessarily call that a cold front. That's more of a
- 12:44Speaker 6: temperature drop than a cold in my opinion, but it's
- 12:49Speaker 6: I mean, right now it's eighty five degrees. It's hot,
- 12:52Speaker 6: so you know, I'll take six out. You know, I
- 12:55Speaker 6: think it's going down to like sixty seven or sixty
- 12:57Speaker 6: five on Friday.
- 12:59Speaker 4: So I mean, they're that's a twenty degree spike.
- 13:01Speaker 6: You're definitely gonna get some deer movement, especially the time year.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure. You're gonna hunt mornings on that too.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm gonna try to.
- 13:10Speaker 6: It's sometimes it's hard getting out of bed.
- 13:12Speaker 4: You'll know, It's like, man, I was on the evening, you.
- 13:15Speaker 6: Know, it's like I got I got a little start
- 13:17Speaker 6: time in my hands. I can I don't need I
- 13:19Speaker 6: had the ability to hunt, you know right now because
- 13:22Speaker 6: of my injury, you know, yeah, I can hunt mornings
- 13:25Speaker 6: or evening. So lately literally I've just been lazy someone
- 13:28Speaker 6: hunting the evenings.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Okay, So really related to the injury thing.
- 13:31Speaker 2: I follow your chronicle there on Instagram, right of like
- 13:33Speaker 2: what you've been dealing with, and it's, yeah, I appreciate
- 13:36Speaker 2: how tough you are, man, But so one of the
- 13:39Speaker 2: things is that you're probably having to focus on even
- 13:41Speaker 2: getting closer to deer than ever before. Right, So maybe
- 13:45Speaker 2: that's the thing that everyone actually wants to do. Right, So,
- 13:49Speaker 2: when we're looking at what's going on in the country
- 13:51Speaker 2: with it being super hot like this, and and you know,
- 13:53Speaker 2: as we're getting closer to the rut and everything, how
- 13:55Speaker 2: are you making sure that you're like on the money
- 13:57Speaker 2: with where your setups are.
- 14:00Speaker 6: I was talk to my buddy about this yesterday. This
- 14:03Speaker 6: season would like set my injury and like I've done
- 14:05Speaker 6: more scouting than hunting because of my limitations, Like some
- 14:10Speaker 6: of my spots I need to shoot distance. So now
- 14:13Speaker 6: I've had to you know, hunting is this season has
- 14:17Speaker 6: been fun, Like I'm more scouting currently than hunting. But
- 14:22Speaker 6: it's fun. There's no expectations, you know, I'm not expected
- 14:27Speaker 6: to you know, do too much, so I get to
- 14:31Speaker 6: just almost be like a kid again.
- 14:33Speaker 4: It's all new.
- 14:33Speaker 6: Like I get closed, I sit in the ground, and
- 14:37Speaker 6: I made you know, I mean, first three dar I shot,
- 14:40Speaker 6: I completely missed. I can tell you, like, uh, the
- 14:43Speaker 6: last couple of years, I haven't had many opportunities at
- 14:45Speaker 6: deer in general, you know, but this year is like,
- 14:48Speaker 6: all right, well, expectations are kind of low. I have limitations,
- 14:51Speaker 6: so I'm just going to have fun with it. And
- 14:52Speaker 6: I seem to be putting myself in better positions because
- 14:56Speaker 6: I'm not expecting much.
- 14:58Speaker 4: So maybe I'm just reading in.
- 15:00Speaker 6: The woods differently, or this is you're trusting my instincts more.
- 15:03Speaker 4: But it's like, hey, I'm.
- 15:04Speaker 7: Gonna go out here and stay here and fall.
- 15:06Speaker 6: It's a hot sign to sit in a bucket, you know,
- 15:08Speaker 6: and Laurie, I'd have a bucket, and like I'm saying, deer,
- 15:10Speaker 6: I'm like, man, this is amazing, Like this is like
- 15:12Speaker 6: a you know, outside of an injury, Like I can't
- 15:15Speaker 6: complain because I've seen more deer and more good sized
- 15:19Speaker 6: bucks than I have in a long time. That's cool, man,
- 15:22Speaker 6: of said my expectations, and I'm kind of just just
- 15:26Speaker 6: hunting for me, I guess, I guess that is that
- 15:30Speaker 6: even a thing to say. Bro, I just get to
- 15:36Speaker 6: go out there and have fun. It is what it is,
- 15:37Speaker 6: you know. And I got twenty yards. Hey, I've seen
- 15:40Speaker 6: a hammer bucket forty yards. I'll tickle to death. I
- 15:42Speaker 6: could have killed him if I had a good hand,
- 15:44Speaker 6: but I was like, hey, I've seen him, like what
- 15:48Speaker 6: I thought was gonna happen work no cameras. Was kind
- 15:50Speaker 6: of just like, hey, this is this is exciting.
- 15:52Speaker 3: That's cool man, Yeah, it's cool. And you put the
- 15:54Speaker 3: pieces together like that.
- 15:55Speaker 2: So thinking about the you know that temperature drop that
- 15:58Speaker 2: you got coming up here in the dates that are
- 16:00Speaker 2: pushing on closer to the rut. What do you give
- 16:03Speaker 2: what you think the buck movement will be like in
- 16:05Speaker 2: daylight on a scale of one to ten for the
- 16:07Speaker 2: next week.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Next week, I'm gonna give it a six or seven.
- 16:11Speaker 6: I think if you hold tight to betting, dough betting
- 16:16Speaker 6: and buck betting and work those scrape lines, I think
- 16:19Speaker 6: you're going to have a chance.
- 16:21Speaker 2: At a deer man that's that's encouraging. I think that's
- 16:24Speaker 2: good advice. Those are good spots to be this time
- 16:26Speaker 2: of year.
- 16:27Speaker 4: Greg.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I appreciate your resilience, man. I hope you stay after it.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Don't let that injury get you down too much. Have
- 16:33Speaker 2: a great season, guys, you too. All right, we're talking
- 16:36Speaker 2: to Drake Lamb. Drake have known you for a few years.
- 16:39Speaker 4: You're probably one of the more well known camera operators
- 16:42Speaker 4: in this entire industry. You've killed some giant deer. You
- 16:45Speaker 4: know what's going on in the woods pretty much all
- 16:47Speaker 4: the time, it seems like. So you've been in Iowa recently,
- 16:52Speaker 4: what's the what if things been like what I mean,
- 16:54Speaker 4: tell me the rut is happening, man, I would love
- 16:58Speaker 4: to tell you the rut has happened, the deer moving.
- 17:00Speaker 8: But here in the home state, man, it's been rough
- 17:03Speaker 8: the past I mean two weeks, the entire October. Really,
- 17:07Speaker 8: we've had one really good cold front there on the
- 17:10Speaker 8: about the fifteenth of October they came through and outside
- 17:14Speaker 8: of that, man, it's been seventies pushing eighty degrees, you know.
- 17:17Speaker 4: South winds.
- 17:19Speaker 8: Just I mean, you boys, like I said earlier, you
- 17:21Speaker 8: boys know all about the heat, but it's been it's
- 17:23Speaker 8: not been good. So a lot of the deer been
- 17:26Speaker 8: pounding green sources, more clover.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Than turn ups, it seems.
- 17:32Speaker 8: Water sources have been huge obviously with uh it's been
- 17:35Speaker 8: super dry here. I think we just got a tenth
- 17:38Speaker 8: this morning and maybe have a four tense coming on Thursday.
- 17:42Speaker 8: But outside of that, we've got one rain since we've
- 17:44Speaker 8: planted food putts on August first.
- 17:47Speaker 4: So yeah, it's across the country, isn't it. Yeah, it's
- 17:50Speaker 4: been brutal up here.
- 17:52Speaker 5: You know.
- 17:53Speaker 8: I think we're four or five inches you know, behind
- 17:55Speaker 8: schedule here and no, I mean we've had reports of
- 17:58Speaker 8: EHD up here, but not like real bad outbreaks like
- 18:02Speaker 8: we've had, you know, in the past in twenty eighteen, nineteen,
- 18:06Speaker 8: and twenty twelve. So it's you know, luckily we've gotten
- 18:09Speaker 8: through that. It rained all summer long, so it was
- 18:12Speaker 8: it was pretty good and then obviously it's just shutting
- 18:14Speaker 8: off since then.
- 18:15Speaker 4: So what's what's the status of the harvest right now?
- 18:22Speaker 4: Are they are they? Do they have most of the
- 18:23Speaker 4: corn out? Is most of it in? What is it
- 18:25Speaker 4: looking like a.
- 18:26Speaker 8: Lot of the corn is stealing where we're at we're
- 18:29Speaker 8: here south Central, a lot of the beans last the
- 18:32Speaker 8: last bean fields of late planted beans fields they're getting
- 18:35Speaker 8: out right now, and so now they're switching on the corn.
- 18:37Speaker 3: So that's another thing that.
- 18:38Speaker 8: We that we that really we really key in on
- 18:41Speaker 8: up here is you know, when the corn gets out,
- 18:43Speaker 8: that changes up a lot of things. So you know,
- 18:47Speaker 8: right now the bucks are shifting around pre rut stuff.
- 18:49Speaker 8: We're starting to get a lot of new bucks and
- 18:51Speaker 8: a lot of bucks that we've had, you know, in
- 18:53Speaker 8: the past that not necessarily don't summer on us that
- 18:56Speaker 8: show up, you know for the rut in late seasons.
- 18:58Speaker 8: A lot of those bucks are starting to show up
- 19:00Speaker 8: right now. But it's still been you know, middle of
- 19:02Speaker 8: the night hour, after dark. Have have a couple of
- 19:06Speaker 8: mature bucks moving, you know, right before right at sunrise
- 19:11Speaker 8: in the morning, so you know, obviously it's cooler then
- 19:13Speaker 8: and heading back to bed.
- 19:15Speaker 3: But yeah, it's been it's been.
- 19:16Speaker 8: Rough waiting on a lot of the corner to get out.
- 19:18Speaker 8: I'd say, you know, I'd say we're over fifty percent
- 19:22Speaker 8: for sure.
- 19:23Speaker 7: So with feed they've gotten on it.
- 19:26Speaker 2: So on those water sources you're talking about, since it's
- 19:29Speaker 2: real dry, uh, what time of day do you expect
- 19:31Speaker 2: do you to come in there?
- 19:32Speaker 3: Is that a morning thing or an evening thing?
- 19:34Speaker 8: Man, it's been an evening thing. Like right when they
- 19:37Speaker 8: get up out of the bed, it seems like they're
- 19:39Speaker 8: they're hitting the water and then they're going, you know,
- 19:41Speaker 8: out going out to feed. We've we've been gotten a
- 19:44Speaker 8: lot of public land and I've got some permission through
- 19:46Speaker 8: some private to get into some public And I watched
- 19:50Speaker 8: four or five bucks the other day. Nothing mature, a
- 19:53Speaker 8: couple of three year olds and younger bucks, but they
- 19:55Speaker 8: all they all got up out of their bed, march
- 19:57Speaker 8: right to the water, and then right back out to
- 19:58Speaker 8: the cornfield and fed, you know, basically the whole night.
- 20:01Speaker 8: So I think that's you know, that's probably looking forward
- 20:04Speaker 8: to the next week or so. I mean, it's not
- 20:07Speaker 8: going to be anything you want, you know, sixty eight
- 20:10Speaker 8: seventy eight seventy six, little cold front there, if you
- 20:15Speaker 8: want to call it, the cold front on the thirtieth
- 20:18Speaker 8: and thirty first down to sixty one degrees, all right,
- 20:22Speaker 8: you know what I mean. It's like it's not ideal
- 20:24Speaker 8: by any means, but you know, the deer is still
- 20:26Speaker 8: going to do it. You know, the dose are still
- 20:28Speaker 8: going to come into coming to heat and you know,
- 20:30Speaker 8: so they'll they'll still be doing it. But I see
- 20:33Speaker 8: a bunch of south and southwest winds, which you know
- 20:36Speaker 8: predominantly you know, November right this time. You know a
- 20:40Speaker 8: lot of your stuff set up for northwest winds. So
- 20:42Speaker 8: I might have to look ahead and kind of kind
- 20:44Speaker 8: of change some things up to that.
- 20:46Speaker 4: But gotcha. So, uh, I need you to I need
- 20:50Speaker 4: you to inspire me for a second here because you
- 20:51Speaker 4: haven't done that yet. But really listen, the October has
- 20:57Speaker 4: been almost an entire month of low like for a
- 21:00Speaker 4: lot of people, is this does this set us up
- 21:03Speaker 4: to have just a breakout November?
- 21:06Speaker 3: Man? I hope.
- 21:07Speaker 8: So last year was really good and this year, like
- 21:09Speaker 8: I said, I mean, it gets down into the fifties,
- 21:12Speaker 8: you know, the first part of November. So as far
- 21:15Speaker 8: as highest, I mean, I think we'll still we'll still
- 21:18Speaker 8: be We'll still be rolling.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Gotcha.
- 21:20Speaker 8: So with the said I hadn't clearly picked up now,
- 21:23Speaker 8: so I'm hoping you know, I'm break at some point.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Sure, hopefully so? Man. So with the warm temps the
- 21:29Speaker 4: next week or so, uh on a scale of one
- 21:31Speaker 4: to ten. What do you think the Bucks movement is
- 21:32Speaker 4: going to be like.
- 21:34Speaker 8: Man, I'll still go with with the seven man. I mean,
- 21:40Speaker 8: I can't give it any higher than that. Just I
- 21:42Speaker 8: see seventy eight, seventy six, you know, sixty eight.
- 21:45Speaker 4: But I mean it's it's it's getting to beat go time.
- 21:48Speaker 4: They're starting to hit the grades. Daylight activity is going to.
- 21:51Speaker 8: Start picking up here at the end of the you know,
- 21:53Speaker 8: the next week or two. So I mean, it's a
- 21:55Speaker 8: good it's a good if you got a Buck on
- 21:57Speaker 8: a pattern. Man, it's still a dang good time to
- 21:59Speaker 8: be injury.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, okay, seven in the Midwest is a pretty
- 22:03Speaker 4: good thing, I think, so we'll take it. Drake, thanks
- 22:06Speaker 4: for hopping on the phone with us, man, and I
- 22:08Speaker 4: hope the rest of your season goes well. And I
- 22:10Speaker 4: can't wait to see a bunch of Bucks in November
- 22:13Speaker 4: going down on your Instagram feed. Man, Man, I hope
- 22:16Speaker 4: I appreciate it.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Fellas.
- 22:52Speaker 4: I'm talking to Adam Keith from Landing Legacy. This is
- 22:55Speaker 4: one of my favorite brothers in the industry. Man, I
- 22:57Speaker 4: appreciate your friendship Adam, and I appreciate especially for this podcast,
- 23:03Speaker 4: your advice and your thoughts going forward on Deer. How's
- 23:06Speaker 4: everything going? Man?
- 23:07Speaker 5: Oh, I appreciate it. It's always good to talk to
- 23:10Speaker 5: you guys. I don't know if I'm going to be
- 23:12Speaker 5: much motivation on this week because it is h Oh,
- 23:16Speaker 5: it's getting pretty crunchy up here in southern Midwest.
- 23:20Speaker 4: Yeah, well that's and that's not a it's not an
- 23:23Speaker 4: uncommon motif throughout this this week's podcast. That's okay, But
- 23:29Speaker 4: you know, what have you been seeing? I'm guessing when
- 23:30Speaker 4: you say crunchy, there's not a whole lot of rainfall happening.
- 23:34Speaker 7: No, it hadn't rained in almost thirty days.
- 23:36Speaker 5: And uh, it's been unseasonably hot, and there's been some wind,
- 23:43Speaker 5: so all the conditions to dry things out, and so
- 23:47Speaker 5: it's been a In fact, sometime in September, we shifted
- 23:51Speaker 5: a lot of our cameras away from water holes to
- 23:55Speaker 5: put them on mock scrapes, and we are shifting them
- 23:57Speaker 5: back because we're noticing a lot of activity is happening
- 24:01Speaker 5: around our water holes. Wow.
- 24:03Speaker 4: Yeah, that's interesting because we're we're Casey and I are
- 24:05Speaker 4: in a hunt right now, and we have seen scrapes
- 24:09Speaker 4: this time of year in this area and are just
- 24:14Speaker 4: not I haven't even seen a scrape yet.
- 24:16Speaker 3: I looked around hard today for him.
- 24:18Speaker 4: Yeah, they're just they're just not here. It's the same
- 24:20Speaker 4: conditions here we've in Texas. We've been so dry and
- 24:24Speaker 4: so hot, and we had one little cool spell in
- 24:27Speaker 4: early October and it's just not not that way the
- 24:29Speaker 4: rest of the month. You guys seen a lot of
- 24:32Speaker 4: lull in the action because of these conditions.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Yes, correct, I think a lot of times people I'm
- 24:39Speaker 5: not one of those October lowll believers.
- 24:41Speaker 7: I'm not one of those guys.
- 24:42Speaker 5: It's like, oh October loll sometimes stop hunting. It's it's
- 24:45Speaker 5: kind of just one of those that those odd the conditions.
- 24:48Speaker 5: And yes, there is a lull this year because of
- 24:50Speaker 5: the heat and the dryness that we have. If if
- 24:54Speaker 5: I am hunting, you know, I still have a lot
- 24:56Speaker 5: of good big deer that I'm getting on camera, but.
- 24:59Speaker 3: They're at night.
- 25:01Speaker 5: Or in the morning, and I'm not a you know,
- 25:04Speaker 5: I tend to shift where I don't tell a lot
- 25:07Speaker 5: of people to hunt the mornings in early season, but
- 25:11Speaker 5: I do tell them. I used to say don't hunt mornings,
- 25:14Speaker 5: and now I say hunt mornings. If it if that's
- 25:16Speaker 5: what it takes.
- 25:17Speaker 3: To kill them.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Yeah, that's you. Casey kind of has mentioned that to
- 25:21Speaker 4: me in the past past couple of years, and I'm
- 25:23Speaker 4: becoming more of a believer in that, especially in this
- 25:26Speaker 4: hot early season stuff. You know, what kind of what
- 25:29Speaker 4: kind of food sources are you looking at right now
- 25:31Speaker 4: that are that are going to be something you could
- 25:33Speaker 4: take advantage of.
- 25:34Speaker 5: It's acrons, and it's it's acrons for sure where I'm at.
- 25:39Speaker 5: And then because it is so dry, if you have
- 25:43Speaker 5: bottom fields that are getting heavy dues that are in
- 25:46Speaker 5: young tender green vegetation Sebraska's or rape seed, or even
- 25:51Speaker 5: your cereal greens like wheat and uh tree to kaylee
- 25:55Speaker 5: or cereal rye or oats, if you have those and
- 25:58Speaker 5: they're still getting heavy dews to where they're palatable, they're
- 26:03Speaker 5: very they're very uh wet and still actively growing, then
- 26:09Speaker 5: those can be great food sources. But if they're ridge
- 26:11Speaker 5: top and they've been driver for a while, they're starting
- 26:15Speaker 5: to kind of get a little waxy, and I'm not
- 26:17Speaker 5: seeing as much activity on those plots.
- 26:20Speaker 3: So let's think about the morning hunts.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Then you know, if that's the time that you can
- 26:25Speaker 2: capitalize on some cool weather and maybe see deer on
- 26:27Speaker 2: their feet. Maybe you do have a bottom that it
- 26:31Speaker 2: does have a decent food plot in it.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Wind's going to be a really difficult thing in that.
- 26:35Speaker 2: How do you how do you overcome you know, kind
- 26:37Speaker 2: of those still cool mornings whenever the wind's doing whatever.
- 26:41Speaker 5: I'm still I'm still I'm using that as a kind
- 26:45Speaker 5: of a in the.
- 26:46Speaker 7: Back of my head, that's the food source.
- 26:48Speaker 5: I'm still basing my strategy around bedding. I definitely know
- 26:52Speaker 5: they're going to be tucking into bed a lot earlier.
- 26:54Speaker 5: They might not be loafing around mid morning, going kind
- 26:58Speaker 5: of late getting to the bedroom. So what I'm doing is, Okay,
- 27:01Speaker 5: if i have let's say, sell cameras on one of
- 27:04Speaker 5: my bottom field food plots are on an oak ridge,
- 27:07Speaker 5: then I've got a buck that's actively using it. If
- 27:09Speaker 5: he's there at five in the morning and still two
- 27:12Speaker 5: hours before daylight, I know he's getting closer to bed.
- 27:16Speaker 5: And so if I can locate those betting areas and
- 27:21Speaker 5: getting close to those at daybreak, then I feel.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Like I've got a shot.
- 27:25Speaker 5: But if I've got a buck on camera that is
- 27:28Speaker 5: moving around and I'm not really getting my pictures, my
- 27:33Speaker 5: last few pictures I'm getting at one am. I'm trying
- 27:36Speaker 5: to scale way out on the area and say, Okay,
- 27:39Speaker 5: he's been somewhere far from where this picture was taken.
- 27:42Speaker 5: And if I don't know where that's at, that deer
- 27:44Speaker 5: is unhuntable to me right now, Yeah, makes sense.
- 27:46Speaker 2: So with all that in mind, I'm bracing for a
- 27:51Speaker 2: difficult number here, right And that's fine.
- 27:53Speaker 3: I think it's good to be honest with people.
- 27:55Speaker 2: On a scale of one to ten, what do you
- 27:57Speaker 2: think the buck movement's going to be like in the
- 27:59Speaker 2: daylight in Missouri in the next week.
- 28:03Speaker 5: As of right now, for the next four days, I'm
- 28:07Speaker 5: going to say it's a three. It's not looking good.
- 28:11Speaker 5: I mean, guys, this is this is prime October lowl.
- 28:14Speaker 5: If you were to look it up and we could
- 28:16Speaker 5: actually define it.
- 28:17Speaker 7: It's right now.
- 28:17Speaker 5: It's it's hot, it's dry, they're wearing winter coats, and
- 28:22Speaker 5: food sources are everywhere with the acorns dropping. Now you
- 28:27Speaker 5: asked me for Saturday, and we've got a cool front.
- 28:30Speaker 7: Coming and a possible light rain.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Not much.
- 28:33Speaker 5: It's not even going to be enough to settle the dust,
- 28:36Speaker 5: but it's dropping ten degrees and the lows in the
- 28:40Speaker 5: high thirties, I'd say that's at least a six midwest six. Well,
- 28:46Speaker 5: they're just kind of barametric pressure in my head.
- 28:49Speaker 9: Oh, barimetric pressure gets today, let's go all right, but
- 28:55Speaker 9: no tell me more. Please, barometric pressure gets as high
- 28:58Speaker 9: as they're saying, I feel like we'll have a.
- 29:01Speaker 5: Chance and I'll be in the stand on Saturday. Okay,
- 29:05Speaker 5: bonus part of this year.
- 29:08Speaker 2: In your best thirty second explanation, can you explain barometric
- 29:11Speaker 2: pressure in what high and low means?
- 29:14Speaker 5: Okay, So, if it's over thirty point two, it's generally high.
- 29:18Speaker 7: It's in the range.
- 29:18Speaker 5: I like, if it's thirty point four and thirty point five,
- 29:24Speaker 5: which I saw two weeks ago, I'm very interested.
- 29:28Speaker 7: If it's if it's.
- 29:30Speaker 5: Twenty nine, I'm not really paying attention to it now.
- 29:33Speaker 7: I always say weather overrides everything.
- 29:35Speaker 5: So if the weather drops fifteen degrees below what it
- 29:39Speaker 5: was the day before, I don't care what the barometric
- 29:41Speaker 5: pressure is.
- 29:42Speaker 4: I know the.
- 29:44Speaker 7: Weather's okay.
- 29:45Speaker 5: But if I can get all the stars to align,
- 29:47Speaker 5: which is great weather high pressure, I'm gonna go into.
- 29:52Speaker 7: More voodoo for you.
- 29:53Speaker 5: But if the moon is at the right rising and falling,
- 29:58Speaker 5: and I put all that with the time of Yeah,
- 30:00Speaker 5: I feel like that's the four star just perfect scenario.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Better get in the stand, boy.
- 30:05Speaker 2: If we keep talking to you, we're gonna get out
- 30:06Speaker 2: two pieces of wire and hold them in our hands. Adam,
- 30:09Speaker 2: I appreciate it, man. I think that I trust you
- 30:12Speaker 2: because I know you know what you're talking about.
- 30:14Speaker 3: I hope Saturday's awesome for you, dude. Thank you. Yeah,
- 30:17Speaker 3: I appreciate it.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Guys, this is.
- 30:19Speaker 3: My friend Stephen Crawford.
- 30:20Speaker 2: He's got a podcast called Red Letters and White Tails
- 30:23Speaker 2: I was blessed to be on at one point in time. Steven,
- 30:25Speaker 2: you've been hunting to Michigan and you're driving around looking
- 30:28Speaker 2: at the country.
- 30:29Speaker 3: What's going on, dude?
- 30:31Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 30:31Speaker 10: Man, Hi, thanks for having me on. Casey and Tyler
- 30:34Speaker 10: really appreciate it.
- 30:36Speaker 7: I'll tell you what.
- 30:37Speaker 10: I'm happy to be in my truck today because it's
- 30:39Speaker 10: really hot out from midwestern Michigan or in late October.
- 30:43Speaker 7: But we have some really exciting weather.
- 30:48Speaker 10: I think starting like in twenty four hours, So really
- 30:51Speaker 10: excited for this.
- 30:52Speaker 3: That soon.
- 30:53Speaker 4: That's cool.
- 30:53Speaker 3: So right now, what's the temperature right now?
- 30:56Speaker 7: Seventy six degrees Okay, and what's about twenty is higher
- 31:00Speaker 7: than the high last week.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Wow, So I bet you that's like a double factor.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Not only is it hot, but the deer got used
- 31:06Speaker 2: to some cool weather and then all of a sudden
- 31:08Speaker 2: they're hit with something really hot and it's double put
- 31:12Speaker 2: down right now.
- 31:13Speaker 7: Yeah, they're you know, they're moving at and we got
- 31:16Speaker 7: hit with a huge full moon like everybody else.
- 31:18Speaker 10: So like the past five or six days, there's been
- 31:22Speaker 10: nothing but nocturnal pictures. But uh, they're starting to hit
- 31:27Speaker 10: scrapes really hard, even if even if it is at night.
- 31:30Speaker 7: I know that with this cold front, you know around
- 31:34Speaker 7: the corner.
- 31:34Speaker 10: That the time movement is going to pick up.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, for sure. So let's talk about that cold front.
- 31:43Speaker 2: What what do you usually define as the cold front?
- 31:45Speaker 2: And you know, as far as like what are you
- 31:47Speaker 2: looking for and temperature drop and then what do you
- 31:50Speaker 2: kind of shift to your what you're gonna do for
- 31:52Speaker 2: like this one that's coming up.
- 31:54Speaker 10: Yeah, So for a cold front, at least here in
- 31:57Speaker 10: Michigan Midwest in general, once we get in the late
- 31:59Speaker 10: eut October, I'm looking for at least a fifteen degree
- 32:03Speaker 10: dip in the high So like Today it's I think
- 32:08Speaker 10: the highest seventy eight or seventy nine degrees, and tomorrow
- 32:11Speaker 10: I believe the highest sixty two. And by this weekend
- 32:16Speaker 10: it's here to stay for like five or six days.
- 32:18Speaker 10: And this weekend I think the highs are in the
- 32:20Speaker 10: mid fifties with lows in the high twenties, low thirties.
- 32:25Speaker 7: So this is like scrape week for me.
- 32:29Speaker 10: I honestly enjoy this week more than the first week
- 32:31Speaker 10: in November here in Michigan.
- 32:34Speaker 7: Bucks are going to be hitting scrapes.
- 32:36Speaker 10: My buddy actually just sent me a picture of a
- 32:39Speaker 10: buck bedded and a scrape, so bucks even yeah, so,
- 32:43Speaker 10: even though bucks are hitting scrapes maternally with this heat
- 32:46Speaker 10: right now, I really think this coldfront is going to
- 32:49Speaker 10: have them up on their feet. And then, you know,
- 32:53Speaker 10: this first cold front, I think we're going to see our.
- 32:55Speaker 7: First little few dos come in.
- 32:58Speaker 10: And that's the most exciting time for me because when
- 33:03Speaker 10: there's only a couple of them running around that are
- 33:07Speaker 10: in heat, those bucks, like the bucks.
- 33:10Speaker 7: Are kind of going crazy.
- 33:11Speaker 10: I've had way more luck with seeing mature bucks on
- 33:15Speaker 10: their feet here in Michigan in late October versus early November.
- 33:19Speaker 10: Pretty consistently year in and year out.
- 33:22Speaker 4: So how you finding the scrapes that are going to
- 33:26Speaker 4: show daylight? First?
- 33:29Speaker 10: I'm looking, so I'm kind of I'm not totally avoiding
- 33:32Speaker 10: the field edge scrapes, but for the most part, I'm
- 33:34Speaker 10: walking past them, and I'm looking for more community based
- 33:39Speaker 10: scrapes that are within one hundred yards of a betting area,
- 33:42Speaker 10: specifically a doe betting area. So I from I have
- 33:47Speaker 10: prior knowledge in public land around me, and then I
- 33:50Speaker 10: have a few private pieces I'm lucky enough to have
- 33:53Speaker 10: permission on. And really I'm not I'm not too concerned
- 33:57Speaker 10: with the field edge scrapes.
- 33:59Speaker 7: But if you show me a that's getting consistently hit within.
- 34:02Speaker 10: One hundred yards of a wedding area and some sort
- 34:05Speaker 10: of cover, I think this last ten days of October,
- 34:11Speaker 10: especially coupled with a cold front, to me, is one
- 34:16Speaker 10: of the.
- 34:17Speaker 7: The best reasons to be in the woods. You know,
- 34:20Speaker 7: chances are higher than they are any other time year
- 34:23Speaker 7: to shoot the mature buck.
- 34:24Speaker 4: So would you rather hunt a scrape or hunt a
- 34:28Speaker 4: pinch point if those first few do's are coming in.
- 34:34Speaker 7: I guess it depends what I'm seeing and hearing.
- 34:39Speaker 10: I think the last Like like these next few days,
- 34:42Speaker 10: with this cold front coming in, I'm probably gonna be
- 34:45Speaker 10: hunting over a scrape. But then as it gets inches
- 34:48Speaker 10: closer to Halloween, then I'm probably getting more focused on
- 34:52Speaker 10: the pinch points. So, just with the history that my
- 34:56Speaker 10: personal history, I'd say up until October t twenty seventh,
- 35:00Speaker 10: twenty eighth, I'm hunting scrapes pretty hard. But then once
- 35:04Speaker 10: I see a lot of bucks on their feet, maybe
- 35:07Speaker 10: some trip, maybe a little bit more of aggressive chasing
- 35:11Speaker 10: come that Halloween time period, I'm more on a pinch point.
- 35:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 4: So, so on a scale of one to ten, what
- 35:16Speaker 4: do you think buck movement's gonna be like in the
- 35:18Speaker 4: next week.
- 35:20Speaker 7: Honestly, I think it's gonna be like a seven to
- 35:23Speaker 7: eight as good as it gets in late October here
- 35:28Speaker 7: in the Midwest.
- 35:29Speaker 10: I don't know what the weather's looking like elsewhere, but
- 35:32Speaker 10: here in Michigan, this cold front we're gonna have between tomorrow,
- 35:36Speaker 10: which is the twenty third of October, and like the
- 35:41Speaker 10: twenty ninth, I think it's just gonna be money.
- 35:45Speaker 6: Man.
- 35:45Speaker 10: I'm seeing buck movement at night, and I know it's
- 35:48Speaker 10: gonna shift a daily.
- 35:49Speaker 4: I know.
- 35:50Speaker 7: The only reason, right now is the heat and the moon.
- 35:55Speaker 10: I know, with this cold front coming in, it's gonna really,
- 35:58Speaker 10: it's really gonna kick him intear and daye.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Man, I appreciate the optimistic report and I believe what
- 36:03Speaker 2: you're saying.
- 36:04Speaker 3: Dude, It's gonna be a good weekend in Michigan. Thanks
- 36:06Speaker 3: for the report, man.
- 36:07Speaker 7: Yeah, thanks Casey, Thanks Allen.
- 36:10Speaker 2: If you are a person who enjoys Reugh Fresh Radio
- 36:14Speaker 2: and you in fact got something from our interview last
- 36:17Speaker 2: week with our good friend Jake Hofer, we did a
- 36:20Speaker 2: long format podcast on the Element podcast. We did a
- 36:24Speaker 2: deep dive into his trail camera strategy and data organization
- 36:28Speaker 2: and then putting that data into action with his hunting plan.
- 36:31Speaker 3: He's really good at that.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Go listen to that if you have it before, put
- 36:34Speaker 4: a link in the bio down there for that. You
- 36:37Speaker 4: know who else is really good at putting a plan
- 36:39Speaker 4: in action.
- 36:40Speaker 3: And not telling you how or why.
- 36:43Speaker 4: Mister Greg. Mister Greg. We've got a guy named Greg
- 36:46Speaker 4: Latham that has run camera for us for the last
- 36:48Speaker 4: few years. In fact, his first job filming for us
- 36:52Speaker 4: ever was the first episode of Buck Truck. So if
- 36:54Speaker 4: you're familiar with the Buck Truck series, it's on the
- 36:56Speaker 4: media YouTube channel. Greg has helped film a lot of
- 36:59Speaker 4: that kind of cut his team from that kind.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Of filmed Mark Kenyon on buck Truck.
- 37:03Speaker 4: That's exactly right. So if you're a Mark Kenyon fan,
- 37:06Speaker 4: I don't know why you would be, but I love Mark.
- 37:10Speaker 4: I said, I'm going to do that the whole season,
- 37:12Speaker 4: and here I am. Greg had an awesome encounter and
- 37:17Speaker 4: killed a really awesome deer on public land Solo backpacking
- 37:21Speaker 4: trips self filmed from the ground, from the ground the seo,
- 37:25Speaker 4: way back in the back country, like I think he
- 37:29Speaker 4: walked in like three miles or something crazy. I can't remember.
- 37:31Speaker 4: But the dude is a killing machine. He's an He's
- 37:36Speaker 4: silent but deadly, I think is what we call him.
- 37:38Speaker 4: But y'all go watch that. It's on our YouTube channel.
- 37:40Speaker 4: It's called Solo Backpack Hunting from my biggest White Tail.
- 37:42Speaker 4: Buck is an awesome hunt. It's on our YouTube channel,
- 37:45Speaker 4: the Element Hunting YouTube channel. Go check it out.
- 37:47Speaker 3: What else case I don't really have superstitions? Did you
- 37:50Speaker 3: know that?
- 37:50Speaker 4: I did?
- 37:51Speaker 2: But maybe not everybody does. But a lot of people
- 37:54Speaker 2: do have superstitions and other things. And our friend Tony
- 37:59Speaker 2: Peterson may not be may or may not be that
- 38:02Speaker 2: kind of guy. He has some thoughts at least about
- 38:04Speaker 2: some things, yea, and usually he's really good at putting
- 38:06Speaker 2: those things down pen to paper. And he actually wrote
- 38:09Speaker 2: an article recently about superstitions that probably won't help you
- 38:13Speaker 2: feel tags, but they can be fun. Don't check out
- 38:16Speaker 2: Tony's article on that. I bet it's pretty good. I
- 38:19Speaker 2: read the first half of it here and it's pretty entertaining.
- 38:22Speaker 2: He is man, and he does a pretty good job
- 38:26Speaker 2: with uh. I would say exuding or extracting, that's the
- 38:32Speaker 2: wrong word. Extracting the things that you might breeze over
- 38:36Speaker 2: in your hunting season, you know, like he's he's he's
- 38:38Speaker 2: thinking about stuff a lot. So go read that article
- 38:41Speaker 2: if you haven't. On Wired to hunt dot com, all
- 38:43Speaker 2: that stuff will be linked below in the description guys,
- 38:47Speaker 2: appreciate y'all listening. This has been rough, fresh, Keep it fresh.
