- 0:00You have arrived. Welcome to the Aspy world.
- 0:04Here's where we talk about anything and everything ASD in
- 0:07an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 0:11spectrum, your autism ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 0:19Oh, good morning, everybody. I'm talking about autism
- 0:22inertia. Like what is autism inertia and
- 0:25what are the things that helps us overcome inertia so we can
- 0:28actually get things done in our day?
- 0:41By the way, my girlfriend's a dentist, so she's like doing
- 0:44stuff. This is a noisy machine, no bid.
- 0:47OK, so a little prerequisite to what auto inertia is.
- 0:51Basically, inertia is when you like want to do something but
- 0:54you have no ability to do it because you just kind of the
- 0:57feeling of I have so many things on my To Do List, how can I even
- 1:00start doing one? But I have so many to do and
- 1:03then I end up doing none at all. But this comes from Newton's
- 1:06laws of motion. An object in motion can't just
- 1:09suddenly stop, deviate or turn or whatever.
- 1:13It's on a path, right? And the same can be said for
- 1:14autistic people in reverse of that, an object that is not in
- 1:18motion, we're not doing something, we're not completing
- 1:20tasks. It will also not be able for us
- 1:22to start the task because we're not currently going.
- 1:25This is inertia. So how do we overcome inertia?
- 1:29How do we get over it? I have 3 or 4 actually proven
- 1:32ways that I personally do it, but I also have an insight from
- 1:34my girlfriend because she has some amazing insight into how
- 1:36she deals with the inertia at being an audio HD person
- 1:39herself. So I was saying about how
- 1:41inertia kind of impacts your ability to be motivated to start
- 1:44doing things. And I was talking to Fabia
- 1:46earlier about this exact thing. And you said, hey, there's one
- 1:50thing that I've used that I used to help get out of inertia.
- 1:53Now this is interesting because I was like, whoa, this is so
- 1:56interesting, especially for like the girls in my orders, right?
- 1:59So what? What were you saying about the
- 2:00makeup thing? To me, it really helps when I do
- 2:03my makeup in the morning. I noticed that I do a lot more
- 2:06things, like I get a lot more done if I had done my makeup in
- 2:10the morning. Yeah, it's kind of like the when
- 2:12you like make your bed, right. This is one of the things that
- 2:14the dopamine list, like if you're taking things off your
- 2:17list of things to do, you get more motivated to do more, which
- 2:20is really interesting because if you do nothing, you you stay and
- 2:23motivated. But when you're starting
- 2:24something. And it's like it's not about the
- 2:27makeup itself. It's just like the first step,
- 2:30you know, getting ready this, then my day can be more
- 2:34productive. It's true.
- 2:35And I took inspiration from Mark Zuckerberg on something very
- 2:38similar where I prepare my clothes the night before.
- 2:40This is kind of like, this is not one of the main things I was
- 2:42going to talk about on this, but you just reminded me about it.
- 2:44Where like if I get up and I have to like, worry about what
- 2:47clothes I'm going to wear always freaks me out.
- 2:49I'm like, oh, yeah. And then it's it stops getting
- 2:51like productive. It starts getting kind of messy.
- 2:54So I'm like, oh, so if I like lay the clothes out and say I'm
- 2:56going to wear this tomorrow, that's a lot easier.
- 2:58So much easier. Yeah.
- 3:00And it's like you've just completed one thing on your
- 3:01list. This is really good because like
- 3:03you were saying, as soon as you do one thing, you go, OK, now
- 3:06I'm in the mode. Yeah, what's next?
- 3:08Like, how can I attack the rest of the day?
- 3:09Super important. And so it's kind of like a state
- 3:11of mind. So first thing you do when you
- 3:12get up, if you're not going to put makeup on, so I don't put
- 3:14makeup on, whatever, you go like shower.
- 3:16Yeah, like shower or do your bed or lay your clothes off.
- 3:19So you know what you're doing. You have to take off that one
- 3:21thing on your. Legs off, pajamas like.
- 3:23Oh, like changing? Changing.
- 3:25Yeah, that is true because they're not.
- 3:27It's kind of like the the work mode thing.
- 3:29You know when you put like a suit and tie, you're in a
- 3:31professional mode library for unlike shorts and AT shirt
- 3:34getting kind of like lounge mode.
- 3:35Yeah, more relaxed. Yeah, and you've got to be like
- 3:38as soon as you, but it's tasking you like you go.
- 3:40OK task. Awesome stuff.
- 3:42She's babe, you're babe. What is it you like about
- 3:45dentistry? One thing, your professionalism,
- 3:50that is your profession. Perfection.
- 3:52Oh, perfectionism. Yeah.
- 3:55Like your. Yeah, that's for me.
- 3:57Yeah. But it's also kind of like
- 3:58attention to detail, right? Yeah.
- 4:00Far as also a scientist. I'm a scientist.
- 4:01We love the detail. We love data and love science.
- 4:05What are you preparing for? I'm preparing a tray to do an
- 4:08amalgam filling. That's fine.
- 4:13Oh, weird mouth thing. Look at this.
- 4:16Oh, is this a dead person's mouth?
- 4:20No, I'm joking. It's not.
- 4:21It's plastic. Oh, is it plastic?
- 4:22All right, What is it? This is silicone.
- 4:24Oh, silicone plastic. Oh, OK.
- 4:26And ceramic. No, it's a resin again.
- 4:29Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:30Very good. Interesting and this is there's
- 4:33like standard stuff, right? For like this is not just
- 4:35practice stuff. This is like we use this in a in
- 4:37a actual clinical setting, right?
- 4:40Amazing. All right, so back to inertia.
- 4:42See this is it. If you had really bad inertia in
- 4:44the morning, there's no way you'll be able to get into a
- 4:46clinic and stop doing teeth, right?
- 4:47Because you'd be like, oh damn. So you've got to kind of like
- 4:49stay active, get those things going right.
- 4:52I'm going to tell you now about the protocol.
- 4:54The protocol's really interesting and this is kind of
- 4:56like the key for overcoming inertia kind of in general.
- 4:59The whole thing, all these little things are deaf, but this
- 5:01is super interesting because it's real life.
- 5:04Look, this is inertia one O 1 Fabio's currently putting
- 5:06together the floor lamp and this is me.
- 5:09I mean that Tim horton's done so when in Canada, it's Tim
- 5:13horton's rules, right? Like we've got to do it, but
- 5:16this thing actually has apple in Oh, I'll drop a box anyway.
- 5:20This thing, this apple Fritzer actually has apple in it.
- 5:22Very see look working hard, very demure.
- 5:26All right back to it. Also, you guys remember this
- 5:29shirt from the the the video we did?
- 5:31If you don't know, I'll put a cup of it here, OK, And this was
- 5:38the setting of the box breakdown video and look at the slippers.
- 5:46Yay. OK, and now we're done with the
- 5:49the craziness and hanging out eating Donuts.
- 5:51OK, so number one thing that I love to do to help myself get
- 5:55things done is the protocol I call is the getting things done
- 5:59protocol. OK, and this is going to Rock
- 6:00You out of inertia. And how it works is very simple.
- 6:03You have one piece of white paper and then you write down
- 6:07all the things that you need to complete.
- 6:09It could be life goals, it could be smaller things, it could be
- 6:11daily tasks, it could be whatever it is all the things
- 6:13that you need to get done stopping you from actually
- 6:16getting them done. Write all the things down in one
- 6:18big list. Two things happen. 1 You realize
- 6:21that there's not that many things, so the whole inertia
- 6:25thing is kind of off the mind of a matter, but also you start
- 6:28writing those things down. You're already at the moment
- 6:31inertia because you started a list.
- 6:33OK, take the first one, move it to a separate piece of paper.
- 6:37So on the list of things you need to do, find the first one
- 6:40that you want to attack. The thing that you think.
- 6:42Look, if I got rid of this, I feel so happier.
- 6:44Get that Put also a new piece of paper right at the top.
- 6:47Write a completion date. So you need to get done by
- 6:50whatever date, then list out all the steps in which you need to
- 6:54take to create that specific goal.
- 6:58So if it's needing to clean the house, right, the clean the
- 7:01house needs to be done within the next 24 hours.
- 7:03All the things need to be done. I need to wash the kitchen,
- 7:05Hoover the carpet and clean the couch, clean the bedrooms, wash
- 7:10the toilets and suit the floor. Boom.
- 7:11Go through each one of these things incrementally.
- 7:14Now there is a tip though. Bigger, larger goals, try to
- 7:17complete them in a longer space of time.
- 7:19Give yourself enough time, but also put down like, oh, today
- 7:23I'm just going to do one goal. So say you want to learn how to
- 7:26drive. That's the big goal, right?
- 7:28So then you say, OK, so the first actual step is booking a
- 7:31driving instructor, right? Or looking for a driver
- 7:33instructor. Just do that, that one day.
- 7:35So that's all you need to do. Because when you start to
- 7:37complete these, just like me and Flavio were saying, you get
- 7:39these dopamine hits where you're like taking things off your
- 7:41list. OK, so reminders and taking
- 7:45action like one of the things I can't live without my iPhone.
- 7:48I have an iPhone, an iPad, and I have MacBook and it all sinks
- 7:52together nice in a little ecosystem like the Apple
- 7:54ecosystem. And I know if you understand
- 7:56this, you know what I'm talking about.
- 7:57Now, having the Apple ecosystem allows me to do something quite
- 8:02magical. I can tell my Siri to remind me
- 8:05to do something, right? And when that buzzer comes on
- 8:08saying like, hey Dan, do this. I do it then and there.
- 8:10So it says like, hey Dan, you've got to phone the doctor to book
- 8:13an X-ray for somebody. OK, I'll do it right now.
- 8:15So do the reminder, but take the action when it comes in.
- 8:18You're going to realize you're going to get so many things done
- 8:21and you won't even worry about inertia.
- 8:23The last thing I have you on, inertia is something that I've
- 8:25used, I think maybe for about two or three years now I've been
- 8:28doing this. Now this is a small daily
- 8:29journal and I mean, you can have any journal you want, right?
- 8:33But this one's nice because if it's in your pocket, you take it
- 8:34anywhere. At the end of the day, I write
- 8:36down my thoughts and the things that I need to complete the day
- 8:38after, or maybe the things that I've completed today because I
- 8:41want to see the progress and improvement of what I'm doing.
- 8:43Now. What's really interesting about
- 8:44this is it healthy clutter your mind, but it also allows you to
- 8:48create task lists, lists so that you can move forward with haste.
- 8:53Now I'm driving now you can you can move forward and make sure
- 8:56that you're kind of completing the things that you want to
- 8:58complete in a in a good space of time.
- 9:00Now I'll leave a link for these little pieces.
- 9:02I've got these on Amazon. They're super cheap.
- 9:04I'll leave a link from down below.
- 9:05But one of the things that Flavi and I was talking about when we
- 9:08were building the desk, as you saw is how a lot of the time I
- 9:11look for other people to motivate me to be inspired, to
- 9:14do things to to be motivated. And a lot of people miss this
- 9:17and maybe they don't have something they can rely on or
- 9:19motivate them. Sometimes it's your dab, your
- 9:20best friend, your wife, your partner, whatever.
- 9:23Now, if you are missing this and you want to you know somebody to
- 9:28be there as you're spot, you're motivated.
- 9:29I am a highly motivated person and I love doing one-on-one
- 9:32consultations with all my fans from different areas of the
- 9:36world. We do one-on-one consultations.
- 9:38I love it. I help people in business,
- 9:40relationships, life management, just coaching them so that they
- 9:45as autistic individuals can feel empowered, understand their
- 9:47power and move forward in time to the things that they want to
- 9:50do that urges them towards existence.
- 9:52Now I would love to do this. So if you want me to be your
- 9:54personal coach, so motivate you to do things like this, go down
- 9:58below there'll be a link where you can book me.
- 10:00But if you're watching on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok,
- 10:02then on Facebook, the link will be in the comment of this video.
