- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we're talking about 3 words.
- 0:33I am sorry, and this is these are hard words to say.
- 0:39Those 3 words, I am sorry. For many of us, it is a very,
- 0:42very hard thing to say because we equate it.
- 0:45We link it back to being wrong and if we don't believe we're
- 0:49wrong, we don't want to say we're sorry.
- 0:52I know this because I am 100% one of those people.
- 0:56By my very nature, I am stubborn.
- 0:59I don't quit things easily. I will dig in.
- 1:03And when I don't believe that I am wrong in something, I
- 1:07struggle letting go of it because I want someone to
- 1:10understand my point of view. And over the years I have had to
- 1:14work on that and work on that and work on that because it
- 1:17doesn't let me move forward. It holds me back.
- 1:20So this loops into the I'm sorry, do you have to have
- 1:26someone understand your point of view in order to use the words
- 1:30I'm sorry? Well, for me it was always a
- 1:34link and sometimes it still is. Sometimes I need someone to
- 1:37understand my point of view before I can even say I'm sorry
- 1:40for my actions. Because I feel as though, well,
- 1:43if you understood my point of view, then you I wouldn't mean
- 1:46to say I'm sorry. But that's stupid because maybe
- 1:49I did something that was wrong in my approach.
- 1:52Maybe I handled the approach wrong and they're not going to
- 1:56agree with me. But if I handled the approach
- 1:58wrong, should I have to apologize for it?
- 2:00And the answer is probably yes. If I handled myself poorly and I
- 2:05didn't do the things that I know I should have done, then maybe,
- 2:08maybe just maybe that is one of those things that is necessary
- 2:12to come out with and say the words, hey, I'm sorry.
- 2:16I should have done this better. I should have done a more
- 2:19efficient job with this. So we have to look at that and
- 2:23say, what is it that I need? What are my rules around the
- 2:26words of saying I'm sorry because they are so important to
- 2:31other to myself? I mean, do do you like to hear
- 2:33an apology? Because I know I do.
- 2:35I want to hear people say I'm sorry if they did something to
- 2:37hurt me. And am I easy to forgive?
- 2:39Yes, I'm very easy to forgive. I, I just want to know that
- 2:43someone's sorry. I want to know that they
- 2:45understood their actions hurt me.
- 2:48So if I want that in the world, then I have to be the same and,
- 2:52and reciprocate it. I have to be the same.
- 2:54I have to be willing to give it. And in order to be willing to
- 2:56give that, boy, that's a big thing, right?
- 2:59I have to be willing to sit there and let go of some of my
- 3:03crazy rules behind the scenes. But like, well, do you
- 3:06understand my point of view? Did you clearly get that?
- 3:08Because I'm I think you're missing it.
- 3:10And does this show up most with the people that you care about
- 3:14the most, the ones that you love the most?
- 3:16Of course it does. We can't help that.
- 3:19Of course it how it does that. So it is without question that
- 3:24if you are in a a relationship with another human, that human,
- 3:29that human person is 100 percent, 100% going to have an
- 3:35experience with you that is strong and connected in some way
- 3:44to how well you guys can solve problems, how well you can
- 3:48connect to solve your problems. And if you struggle with that,
- 3:52you're going to put a burden on the relationship that does not
- 3:54need to be there. That burden is something that
- 3:57you need to, you know, look at and say, I don't want to be that
- 4:01person. I want to have something
- 4:02different. So how do you come back?
- 4:05You sit down and the first thing you do is ask yourself, how well
- 4:08do I give apologies and be honest.
- 4:11Be honest with yourself. I don't give them.
- 4:13Well, OK, how can I do a better job with this?
- 4:16Ask the question, what has to happen for me to do a better job
- 4:21with this? And it's not going to be an
- 4:23instantaneous answer for most of us.
- 4:25We're going to have to think about this.
- 4:26We're going to have to ponder. We're going to have to go into a
- 4:29space of let me think about this because it is a big question.
- 4:35So ask that second, you know, and this is a big thing, how
- 4:40well do I receive an apology? Do I have rules around receiving
- 4:45apologies? Some people have a lot of rules
- 4:48around it, like if you don't show up with the flowers or you
- 4:51don't show up with something that shows me.
- 4:54I mean, I have clients that are 100% having a problem and they
- 4:59will, one will say they're apologizing to the other and all
- 5:02of a sudden, let's say we're talking a couple right now and
- 5:06one will apologize and the other will be like, yes, but yes, but,
- 5:09and, and you didn't do this and you didn't do this.
- 5:11And you might have said you were sorry, but you didn't do this.
- 5:14So the person who delivered the apology feels completely
- 5:17defeated by said apology just by the mere nature of it not being
- 5:22accepted. And then you the question is,
- 5:24well, you didn't mean it anyway, right?
- 5:27Because the reaction is to the lack of acceptance of the
- 5:31initial apology. So think about this.
- 5:35It's giving and receiving. It's both sides of the coin.
- 5:39When you start to pull that together you will be a
- 5:41successful person at apologizing and using those 3 dreaded words
- 5:45of I'm sorry. OK my friends, I hope you have a
- 5:48bet. Great blessed day and I will see
- 5:50you tomorrow. Bye.
