- 1:11Speaker 3: and good to see you guys.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Good morning's good to be here.
- 1:17Speaker 5: Thank you, Pastor Chuck.
- 1:18Speaker 6: Yes, you're welcome. You're welcome.
- 1:20Speaker 3: So we'll have some contact information along the bottom for
- 1:23Speaker 3: these guys. Definitely want you to search it out. Today's
- 1:26Speaker 3: a pretty big topic. We're gonna, you know, touch on
- 1:29Speaker 3: suicide again. Mental health does matter, you know, it's kind
- 1:34Speaker 3: of a spin off on Black Lives Matter, Blue Lives Matter.
- 1:38Speaker 3: We know all lives matter, but at the end of
- 1:40Speaker 3: the day, even for someone to say something like that
- 1:42Speaker 3: the way they're thinking, we want to we want to
- 1:45Speaker 3: check up from the neck up. I heard that a
- 1:47Speaker 3: long time ago when I was a high school and
- 1:49Speaker 3: next psychologist my psychology class doctor t It was our teacher.
- 1:53Speaker 6: He said, we all need to check up from.
- 1:55Speaker 3: The neck up from uh time of the time and
- 1:58Speaker 3: celebrat we have phrases like stinking thinking.
- 2:01Speaker 6: So let's go around the horn a little bit.
- 2:04Speaker 3: We know your mind, we have your lives based on
- 2:07Speaker 3: from you know, Romans twelve to one. We'll start with Cody.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Rick, tell us why we decided to do
- 2:18Speaker 3: this show.
- 2:20Speaker 7: Well, we uh, several conversations came about about just mental
- 2:26Speaker 7: health in general and how to fix our community, and
- 2:29Speaker 7: then just putting this out making sure that others heard this,
- 2:34Speaker 7: especially those in the world, and what a great platform
- 2:36Speaker 7: that you have, Pastor Chuck, and we were so excited
- 2:39Speaker 7: at the opportunity to be able to put this out
- 2:41Speaker 7: and and Cody come along as a junior pastor. Let
- 2:45Speaker 7: may say that I was just happy to get him along.
- 2:49Speaker 8: With this, so we're happy to be here.
- 2:52Speaker 6: Say good Cody, I want to introduce yourself too. Yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Absolutely. My name is Cody Thriello.
- 2:59Speaker 9: I work here at Desertview as well and also a pastor.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I'm just really happy to be here and see what
- 3:07Speaker 4: God is doing through this. I think this is our
- 3:11Speaker 4: ninth episode if I'm not mistaken. I can't remember for sure,
- 3:17Speaker 4: but you know, trying to.
- 3:20Speaker 9: Break some of the stigmas around mental health and really
- 3:23Speaker 9: look at that through the lens of.
- 3:26Speaker 4: The Bible and show that like, hey, that stuff's actually
- 3:28Speaker 4: in there, it's real, we deal with it.
- 3:30Speaker 9: How do we how do we then handle this in
- 3:33Speaker 9: a godly way that brings honor to one another's brothers
- 3:37Speaker 9: and sisters and in Christ as.
- 3:40Speaker 6: Well as our Lord. Good word, Trudy.
- 3:47Speaker 10: Hey, I'm doctor Trudy from Atlanta. I have accounsel leading
- 3:50Speaker 10: coaching practice here. But you know, I think about mental
- 3:53Speaker 10: health and I think about one of.
- 3:55Speaker 5: My clients that I have recently. He was a male
- 3:58Speaker 5: and he was leaving.
- 3:59Speaker 10: The office and he said, you know, mental health is real,
- 4:03Speaker 10: and why is it that men are not allowed to
- 4:05Speaker 10: talk about mental health. It's okay for women to say
- 4:08Speaker 10: they struggle with depression, anxiety, things like that. He goes,
- 4:12Speaker 10: but it's so taboo for a man to say, I'm
- 4:16Speaker 10: really struggling. He left the office that day just with encouragement,
- 4:20Speaker 10: knowing I'm struggling.
- 4:23Speaker 5: But there is hope.
- 4:24Speaker 10: And so that's one thing I want people to always
- 4:26Speaker 10: know that there is always hope the midst of a struggle.
- 4:29Speaker 10: You may not feel that hope, but hope is going
- 4:31Speaker 10: to come. There is hope tomorrow.
- 4:33Speaker 5: So just to know that you're not alone and that
- 4:37Speaker 5: there is there is help.
- 4:41Speaker 6: Yeah, for sure. And so we use the Bible on
- 4:46Speaker 6: our show a lot.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Because we believe that it's the word of God, and
- 4:52Speaker 3: it's a lamp unto our feet, a light into our path.
- 4:55Speaker 3: And we knew your mind, we knew your life, you know.
- 4:57Speaker 3: As Rick and I were kicking around title for the
- 5:00Speaker 3: show and then Cody chimed in, we thought, you know,
- 5:04Speaker 3: Romans twelve. It starts off with, you know, a great book,
- 5:09Speaker 3: the whole letter. But I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by
- 5:12Speaker 3: the mercies of God, that we present your bodies a
- 5:15Speaker 3: living sacrifice wholly, which means set apart acceptable to God,
- 5:21Speaker 3: which is your reasonable service. Some say active worship. And
- 5:25Speaker 3: this is where we get this subtitle for our show.
- 5:28Speaker 3: And do not be conformed through this world, or be
- 5:31Speaker 3: transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may
- 5:35Speaker 3: prove what is that good and acceptable, perfect will of God.
- 5:40Speaker 3: So when we talk about topics like suicide, I think
- 5:46Speaker 3: everybody can agree.
- 5:47Speaker 6: I don't care how much babble you've read or not.
- 5:51Speaker 6: Even an atheist would agree.
- 5:53Speaker 3: It's not God's will that we kill ourselves. We spend
- 5:57Speaker 3: our whole life scared of the boogemit, scared a strangers, snakes, spiders,
- 6:03Speaker 3: fill in the blank, and run the self survival mode,
- 6:06Speaker 3: and all of a sudden, one moment in time, you're
- 6:09Speaker 3: possibly your worst enemy. So if this isn't a mental
- 6:12Speaker 3: health issue, that's at the top of the list as
- 6:15Speaker 3: far as I'm concerned. We got to talk about it
- 6:17Speaker 3: because everybody gets the phone caller sees the tweet with
- 6:20Speaker 3: the text so and so did the unthinkable.
- 6:24Speaker 6: So we'll go back around the corn rick.
- 6:26Speaker 7: You want to sure, Yeah, you know, we think about
- 6:29Speaker 7: we hear the word suicide, and of course we always
- 6:31Speaker 7: you know, I think the worst that I think when
- 6:33Speaker 7: I think about suicide, I think about suffering compassion that
- 6:38Speaker 7: you know, folks that are going through this are in
- 6:40Speaker 7: extreme pain, despair, they're dealing with their mental illness a
- 6:44Speaker 7: lot of times that they don't understand.
- 6:46Speaker 8: And then that's that's the worst of it, is them
- 6:48Speaker 8: or their family don't understand what they're going through. And uh, and.
- 6:52Speaker 7: Then that's that's the outward thing that others that can
- 6:56Speaker 7: judge them or that are also around them don't understand.
- 6:59Speaker 8: Is there's so many pieces to this and uh.
- 7:03Speaker 7: And so that's why I'm so glad that we're able
- 7:04Speaker 7: to have these conversations and get these folks support because
- 7:08Speaker 7: there's just so many pieces to this.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Good word and Cody, do you want to go next?
- 7:21Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 7:21Speaker 4: Absolutely, And y'all have to forgive me.
- 7:22Speaker 11: I might be a little bit delayed in my computer
- 7:24Speaker 11: is super slow today, so I'm hearing the words after
- 7:28Speaker 11: the mouser you know, done moving, But uh, yeah, I
- 7:34Speaker 11: just think that we've talked about it before, and I
- 7:37Speaker 11: think it's something that we're going to continue to discuss
- 7:39Speaker 11: because it's very real, it's something that continues to happen,
- 7:44Speaker 11: and there's just it's it's such a complex situation and
- 7:49Speaker 11: what going back to what doctor Simmons was saying, is
- 7:53Speaker 11: that especially for men, it's it's so taboo, I think,
- 7:58Speaker 11: and culture works. As men, we just need to suffer
- 8:01Speaker 11: in silence essentially, and you know, just carry those burdens
- 8:06Speaker 11: until it gets too heavy and then at that point
- 8:09Speaker 11: it's too late, which reminds me of you know, the
- 8:12Speaker 11: word says to shoulder one another's burdens and is to
- 8:15Speaker 11: you know, confess our sins to one another, pray for
- 8:19Speaker 11: one another.
- 8:20Speaker 4: So that we kield mutations are not sins.
- 8:22Speaker 9: There's I think there's wisdom in that too, that the
- 8:25Speaker 9: things that we're struggling with, the battles, the internal.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Battles, the things that that we are carrying by ourselves.
- 8:31Speaker 9: There's healing when we can confess that to other people
- 8:35Speaker 9: and really have the conversations around that, and you know,
- 8:39Speaker 9: to pray for one another so that we show that
- 8:41Speaker 9: sense of community, which goes back to you know, even
- 8:45Speaker 9: the counseling, you know, even as the pastoral counseling side
- 8:49Speaker 9: of things. I think it's so vital to be able
- 8:52Speaker 9: to have that place where people can be vulnerable and
- 8:55Speaker 9: talk about some of the things that they're really struggling with,
- 8:58Speaker 9: so that they don't have to shoulder those burdens, those thoughts,
- 9:01Speaker 9: those semptations by themselves because there's freedom and there's there's
- 9:05Speaker 9: healing in that.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Yeah, that's good, tooty.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:10Speaker 10: I mean, I think kind of what Pastor Cody said,
- 9:13Speaker 10: we have to we have to have a safe place
- 9:15Speaker 10: to share where there's no judgment, so that people know
- 9:19Speaker 10: that they're going to come and they can be real
- 9:23Speaker 10: and transparent. You know, the enemy wants hide in isolation
- 9:27Speaker 10: when we're suffering, because you'll, you know, put those little
- 9:30Speaker 10: whispers in.
- 9:30Speaker 5: Your hair head.
- 9:31Speaker 10: Well, if you're a Christian, you shouldn't be, you know,
- 9:34Speaker 10: And those are the lives of the enemy, and we've
- 9:36Speaker 10: got to be mindful of that because if he keeps
- 9:39Speaker 10: us in isolation, that's where more depression breathes. That's where
- 9:43Speaker 10: the those negative thought lives come start to grow. But
- 9:47Speaker 10: if we take it into the light, that's where the
- 9:49Speaker 10: freedom comes. And so we've got to stop believing the
- 9:52Speaker 10: lie of the enemy that oh my goodness, you're the
- 9:54Speaker 10: only one suffering. Oh my goodness, you better not tell
- 9:56Speaker 10: anybody or they're going to question your faith.
- 9:59Speaker 5: You know, it's time. I'm like, we need to be
- 10:01Speaker 5: real and honest, but have that safe place to land.
- 10:05Speaker 10: And a lot of times I don't know about you,
- 10:07Speaker 10: you all, but as a Christian, we can be pre judging, right,
- 10:11Speaker 10: we can. We can be like not the safest people,
- 10:15Speaker 10: and we need to make sure that we are the
- 10:17Speaker 10: safest place where people can come and get healing, you know,
- 10:21Speaker 10: and if they need correction, correction, but also guidance in
- 10:25Speaker 10: our lives because we need each other and the enemy
- 10:28Speaker 10: loves division and isolation and separation.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Yeah, good point.
- 10:35Speaker 3: And so bringing up the Bible again, we have Romans eight,
- 10:41Speaker 3: and again this is one of those topics. When we
- 10:43Speaker 3: talk about suicide, people are left wondering about salvation issues.
- 10:49Speaker 3: And you know, some denominations would think, because the last
- 10:54Speaker 3: thing you did was you murdered yourself or killed yourself
- 10:57Speaker 3: and maybe you're.
- 10:57Speaker 6: Going to hell for it.
- 10:59Speaker 3: And we got to be careful not to preach someone
- 11:01Speaker 3: into heaven or hell because we don't know, Cody. We
- 11:04Speaker 3: talked about this earlier, that someone's salvation is really between God,
- 11:07Speaker 3: whether they're saved or not, have a real relationship or not.
- 11:09Speaker 3: But we know what the scripture says in Romans eight
- 11:12Speaker 3: that there is no there is now no condemnation to
- 11:16Speaker 3: those who are in Christ Jesus, you know, who do
- 11:21Speaker 3: not walk according to the flesh, but according to the spirit.
- 11:24Speaker 3: And I would even just some whould argue, well, according
- 11:26Speaker 3: to the flesh, meaning you're doing what the flesh wants.
- 11:29Speaker 6: I think this is like unbelief.
- 11:31Speaker 3: You're not born again, you don't have the Spirit of
- 11:33Speaker 3: God in you, but according to this spirit, that's Holy Spirit.
- 11:37Speaker 3: So if theologically speaking, if you are in Christ Jesus,
- 11:41Speaker 3: and Christ Jesus is in you, that's the distinguishing factor
- 11:47Speaker 3: in Christianity. This is why we preach the gospel. This
- 11:49Speaker 3: is why it's good news. God wants to come in.
- 11:51Speaker 3: It's an inside job. Holy Spirit can whisper in your ear.
- 11:55Speaker 3: The devil certainly is, and we need the spirit of truth,
- 11:58Speaker 3: God himself, the voice of God says, I love you.
- 12:01Speaker 3: You're fearfully, wonderfully made to have a plan and purpose
- 12:03Speaker 3: for your life. Let me lead you, let me guide you,
- 12:05Speaker 3: let me show you some things. And just this constant
- 12:08Speaker 3: I mean for us Christians who've really experienced us. We
- 12:11Speaker 3: want this for everybody. If you haven't, if this light
- 12:13Speaker 3: bulb hasn't gone on for you yet, we're going to
- 12:15Speaker 3: talk about it. Hopefully you get you to go vertical
- 12:17Speaker 3: and say, God, I need you come into my life.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Forgive me for all my stupid We have to elaborate,
- 12:23Speaker 3: but just forgive me. I've done so much, but I
- 12:25Speaker 3: want you in my life. I mean, when that happens,
- 12:27Speaker 3: truly in a believer's life, they're not alone. And again
- 12:32Speaker 3: not to say it's going to be easy. There's struggles.
- 12:34Speaker 3: We're still dealing with sinful people. It's not a perfect place.
- 12:37Speaker 3: This ain't heaven. But the truth of the matter is
- 12:40Speaker 3: if you settle this business with God, there is no
- 12:43Speaker 3: condemnation and you won't feel condemned. You should have some
- 12:47Speaker 3: healthy convictions when you do something wrong, a little guilt
- 12:51Speaker 3: over wrong decisions, and sometimes that'll drive people to drink,
- 12:55Speaker 3: to drug and do all kinds of bad behaviors. So
- 12:58Speaker 3: what we're thinking and how we think about God, the
- 13:01Speaker 3: world and having a biblical perspective is super important. That
- 13:06Speaker 3: was a little mini sermon. We'll go back around.
- 13:08Speaker 7: Rick, your turn, good job, this is this is this
- 13:13Speaker 7: is huge, has always been a huge right. And you
- 13:16Speaker 7: know we have such a gracious forgiving God that you
- 13:21Speaker 7: know I just shared with you.
- 13:22Speaker 8: Guys, that you know, we just.
- 13:23Speaker 7: Had a loss in the clinic and uh, I had
- 13:26Speaker 7: the experience the opportunity to visit with the family and
- 13:30Speaker 7: and uh, you know, we had a really uh moving
- 13:35Speaker 7: conversation about the whole thing.
- 13:37Speaker 8: Uh, you know, and.
- 13:38Speaker 7: At the at the end of the day, I mean again,
- 13:40Speaker 7: mental illness, it's uh, it's just that it's an illness
- 13:45Speaker 7: and it's it's sin, and it's greater than than what
- 13:47Speaker 7: we are sometimes, especially when we're going through it. And
- 13:52Speaker 7: you know, and I think the family had to to
- 13:54Speaker 7: relieve that, you know. And we talked about somebody doing
- 13:58Speaker 7: this in general, they're not in their right mind any
- 14:00Speaker 7: ways to do this. Nobody wants to die or take
- 14:02Speaker 7: their own life or hurt themselves. And and and you know,
- 14:07Speaker 7: they told us how they were planning is Christian service
- 14:11Speaker 7: and everything and everything just you know, set your pictures
- 14:14Speaker 7: and all that is beautiful, you know, So again, amazing
- 14:19Speaker 7: God we have.
- 14:21Speaker 6: It's good, right, Cody.
- 14:27Speaker 12: Cody, I think you know, and especially since we look
- 14:35Speaker 12: at the world three it's bien whole worldview.
- 14:39Speaker 6: You know, we are.
- 14:40Speaker 9: In this while we're in this human experience. You know,
- 14:44Speaker 9: we're we're going to struggle with some things. Jesus said
- 14:47Speaker 9: that in this life there will be many there will
- 14:50Speaker 9: be many struggles.
- 14:51Speaker 4: You know, you're going to go through some things.
- 14:53Speaker 9: And it's making me think of Jeremiah seventeen nine. Right,
- 14:58Speaker 9: the heart is is to see full above all things
- 15:01Speaker 9: and desperately sick who can know it? And something interesting
- 15:05Speaker 9: is that in the in the Hebrew, the word that's
- 15:08Speaker 9: used for deceit pool is a cove, which really refers
- 15:12Speaker 9: to like an uneven or bumpy terrain, something that's that's
- 15:18Speaker 9: misguided or misaligned.
- 15:21Speaker 4: I think that that.
- 15:23Speaker 9: Speaks you are, our state as as people, is that
- 15:28Speaker 9: there's a lot of times that the things within our hearts,
- 15:31Speaker 9: whether that be our own personal desires, whether that be
- 15:34Speaker 9: our own personal struggles, it can be bumpy and uneven
- 15:38Speaker 9: terrain as we're walking through this life right or our
- 15:41Speaker 9: heart can be pulling us one way and when we're
- 15:44Speaker 9: trying to live according to the word of God or
- 15:46Speaker 9: whatever it may be. You know, similar to the end
- 15:49Speaker 9: of Romans seven where the apostle Paul talks about I
- 15:52Speaker 9: do the things I don't want to do, I don't
- 15:53Speaker 9: do the things I do want to do. So I
- 15:56Speaker 9: think that's just part of the human condition is that
- 15:59Speaker 9: we're in this place where we may desire one thing,
- 16:04Speaker 9: but the you know, the things withinside of us are
- 16:07Speaker 9: kind of bent out of shape and misaligned, and we're
- 16:10Speaker 9: going to struggle.
- 16:10Speaker 4: We're going to have those struggles. And I think that's.
- 16:13Speaker 9: Ultimately where you know, this the mental health side of things,
- 16:17Speaker 9: you know, even this, the suicide completion, you know, all
- 16:20Speaker 9: that stuff.
- 16:21Speaker 4: I think that's where that really begins.
- 16:22Speaker 9: Is just that that brokenness within the heart of people
- 16:26Speaker 9: trying to feel fill.
- 16:30Speaker 4: A hole in their heart they can only be filled
- 16:32Speaker 4: by God.
- 16:32Speaker 6: Right.
- 16:33Speaker 4: I heard a preacher and say.
- 16:35Speaker 9: That every one of us has a God shaped hole
- 16:37Speaker 9: in our heart that only He can fill. And even then,
- 16:42Speaker 9: when when we do walk this walk as believers, we're
- 16:44Speaker 9: still going to have those struggles. So for me, I
- 16:47Speaker 9: think it really always comes back to community. I truly
- 16:50Speaker 9: believe God loves to use his people for his people.
- 16:54Speaker 6: Yeah that's good shouting, Yeah, you know.
- 16:58Speaker 10: I think so. I, to be honest, struggle with depression
- 17:03Speaker 10: for years of my life, many many years until and
- 17:08Speaker 10: even after I was a Christian. I struggled for years
- 17:11Speaker 10: and I was like, is this ever going to subside?
- 17:15Speaker 6: And it was challenging.
- 17:16Speaker 5: It was hard. Every day was a battle.
- 17:19Speaker 10: But every day I had to get up and believe
- 17:21Speaker 10: that today is going to be my best day, like
- 17:23Speaker 10: God has something for me. And every day I had
- 17:26Speaker 10: to connect with God on a personal basis. In some
- 17:30Speaker 10: days it was hard because some days I didn't feel
- 17:33Speaker 10: like it.
- 17:33Speaker 5: I didn't even feel his presence.
- 17:35Speaker 10: But I just had to get his word or call
- 17:38Speaker 10: someone and say, today is a bad day. And so
- 17:41Speaker 10: I think both if all of y'all said something so
- 17:43Speaker 10: important in this life, we are going.
- 17:45Speaker 13: To have trials and regulations, but be a good he
- 17:49Speaker 13: is And I love third John it says, dear friends,
- 17:52Speaker 13: I pray that you may enjoy good health and that
- 17:55Speaker 13: all may go well.
- 17:56Speaker 10: With you, even as your soul is getting along. You know,
- 18:00Speaker 10: Graciousness does have great things for us. But again, we
- 18:03Speaker 10: have an enemy. We live in a fallen world.
- 18:05Speaker 5: And the other scripture that I love is we wrestle
- 18:08Speaker 5: out against.
- 18:09Speaker 10: Flesh and blood, but against the principalities of this dark world.
- 18:12Speaker 5: The enemy does not want us to succeed this side
- 18:15Speaker 5: of heaven. He's okay if.
- 18:16Speaker 10: We're at and the bleachers, you know, kind of doing
- 18:22Speaker 10: nothing every day, I kind of say, eating bond bonds
- 18:24Speaker 10: every day, but so he's okay.
- 18:27Speaker 5: If we start getting in the game of life, he's scared.
- 18:31Speaker 10: And so for those of us who do tend to
- 18:35Speaker 10: strug depression or you know that we have an enemy,
- 18:37Speaker 10: but we also have a God who is so gracious
- 18:40Speaker 10: and so loving and so powerful that helps us walk
- 18:44Speaker 10: victory if we choose it.
- 18:45Speaker 5: So a lot of my have to renew your mind.
- 18:47Speaker 5: You have to catch the thought, what do you think?
- 18:50Speaker 5: Then you have to challenge the thought. Is it lining
- 18:52Speaker 5: up with the word of God? And then you have
- 18:54Speaker 5: to change the thought.
- 18:55Speaker 10: And as y'all know, some days are harder than others.
- 18:59Speaker 10: But it's just believing each day that God is for
- 19:03Speaker 10: you and He's going to get you through in better
- 19:06Speaker 10: days are coming. And so I just know when people
- 19:11Speaker 10: hurt that badly that they're afraid that it's never the
- 19:14Speaker 10: pain is never going to end, the agony is never
- 19:16Speaker 10: going to end.
- 19:18Speaker 5: But it does, it does. Tomorrow is brighter than yesterday.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think really the bottom line of all
- 19:26Speaker 3: this is hopelessness, like zero hope, zero faith, bankrupt you
- 19:32Speaker 3: know where. And we're in the whope business. If you're
- 19:37Speaker 3: sharing the gospel. We're really sharing the hope. And I
- 19:40Speaker 3: would even say for you know, there's people at overdose
- 19:43Speaker 3: and again there's masking of pain they're trying to medicate
- 19:46Speaker 3: and it gets out of control. And even when I
- 19:48Speaker 3: relapsed as a Christian, I was so convicted it felt
- 19:51Speaker 3: like condemnation. It was two weeks after I got baptized.
- 19:54Speaker 6: I thought I was.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Following the Lord, and here I am in the mud
- 19:57Speaker 3: again in a hotel room, smoking crack a poorn, got
- 20:00Speaker 3: my Bible open all and it was on like Donkey Kong,
- 20:04Speaker 3: and I heard that voice, You're no good.
- 20:05Speaker 6: You just got baptized. You can't do it.
- 20:07Speaker 3: You might just smoke it as fast as you can
- 20:09Speaker 3: to pop your heart and just get out of here.
- 20:12Speaker 6: And you know, it was a battle.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I was listening to that voice and just you know, again,
- 20:17Speaker 3: this is twenty five years ago. I was at the
- 20:20Speaker 3: place where I just felt like I let everybody and
- 20:22Speaker 3: everything down and I wanted to die and I wanted
- 20:25Speaker 3: so I think a lot of overdoses maybe purposeful or accidental,
- 20:28Speaker 3: because they're trying to medicate this conviction, this pain, and
- 20:32Speaker 3: he just wanted to go away. But then again I
- 20:35Speaker 3: found Jesus, and I heard a dope dealer. So I
- 20:38Speaker 3: used to be a hopeless dope dealer. Now I'm a
- 20:41Speaker 3: dopeless hope dealer. And that's really the business that we're in,
- 20:45Speaker 3: as we're dealing hope. And I just want to bring
- 20:47Speaker 3: up Firstussonians four thirteen. We start talking about funerals and
- 20:50Speaker 3: people passing, Paul brings up this great fact and first
- 20:54Speaker 3: Stessonians four thirteen through eighteen, and you'll see that word
- 20:59Speaker 3: hope appear, and Paul saying, I don't want you to
- 21:02Speaker 3: be ignorant, brethren concerning those who have fallen asleep. And
- 21:06Speaker 3: he's talking about people who have passed away, lest you
- 21:09Speaker 3: sorrow as others who have no hope. He's talking about
- 21:13Speaker 3: people here don't even believe in heaven. I'm never going
- 21:15Speaker 3: to see my mom and dad again after they die.
- 21:18Speaker 3: We believe we're going to see him again, right so
- 21:20Speaker 3: verse fourteen, for if we believe that Jesus died and
- 21:23Speaker 3: rose again, even so God will bring with him those
- 21:27Speaker 3: who sleep in Jesus. There's the key. Are you in Christ?
- 21:31Speaker 3: And is Christ in you? Not just know about Jesus,
- 21:34Speaker 3: heard about Jesus. Talk about Jesus, like the President of
- 21:37Speaker 3: the United States. I can talk about Trump all day long.
- 21:39Speaker 3: He's not in me, and I am not in Trump.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Jesus is something different. He can be on the inside
- 21:45Speaker 3: through the Holy Spirit, and you're in Christ. So that's
- 21:49Speaker 3: a big difference. Right Fifteen. For this we say to
- 21:52Speaker 3: you by the word of the Lord, that we who
- 21:53Speaker 3: are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord,
- 21:56Speaker 3: because he's coming back, will by no means precede those
- 21:58Speaker 3: who are asleep, For the Lord will himself to send
- 22:01Speaker 3: from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel,
- 22:04Speaker 3: and with the trumpet of God, the dead in Christ
- 22:08Speaker 3: will rise first. This is the resurrection. This is the
- 22:12Speaker 3: hope we have. We get a brand new body that
- 22:14Speaker 3: lives forever, no more sin. Heaven is perfect, this place
- 22:18Speaker 3: ain't seventeen. Then, we who are alive and shall be
- 22:21Speaker 3: and remain, shall be caught up together with them in
- 22:23Speaker 3: the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And
- 22:26Speaker 3: thus we shall always be with the Lord with God
- 22:30Speaker 3: in heaven. Therefore, comfort one another with these words. If
- 22:34Speaker 3: we're not sharing this message, because this is a message
- 22:37Speaker 3: of comfort, there is an endgame. There is a plan
- 22:41Speaker 3: there is a heaven, and I don't care how bad
- 22:43Speaker 3: it gets today.
- 22:45Speaker 6: One day we're all.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Going to be on the other side of this place,
- 22:48Speaker 3: and we want to bring as many people with us.
- 22:50Speaker 3: So some people, and we talked about this before we
- 22:52Speaker 3: went live, have this such a hope of heaven. They may,
- 22:56Speaker 3: and I don't want to preach them into thinking, well,
- 22:59Speaker 3: I want to go there today and I'm gonna, I'm gonna,
- 23:01Speaker 3: I'm gonna make an appointment, and I just want to
- 23:03Speaker 3: get there sooner rather than later. So, you know, can
- 23:06Speaker 3: we over preach heaven so much to where someone's like, well,
- 23:08Speaker 3: then I'm done here and i want to go there now,
- 23:10Speaker 3: and I'm so secure in my salvation. I wrestle with
- 23:14Speaker 3: that as a preacher. I don't want to make heaven
- 23:16Speaker 3: so you know, so attractive that you're going to quit
- 23:19Speaker 3: here now, just get there sooner. We'll go back around
- 23:23Speaker 3: with your turn.
- 23:24Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 23:25Speaker 7: You know, you bring up you know, a good point
- 23:27Speaker 7: because we had that discussion with with this client's family,
- 23:31Speaker 7: is you know, as a believer and knowing that you
- 23:34Speaker 7: know for starters, you know, going back to somebody had
- 23:38Speaker 7: told me that, you know, when you commit suicide, there's
- 23:40Speaker 7: no chance, no opportunity for repentance, you know. And then
- 23:44Speaker 7: back to what you know, doctor Simmons was saying about,
- 23:47Speaker 7: you know, I two separates from depression at one time,
- 23:49Speaker 7: and all the pain and all the things that you
- 23:51Speaker 7: go through, trust me, it's it's all there, you know
- 23:54Speaker 7: what we go through.
- 23:55Speaker 8: And uh.
- 23:56Speaker 7: And so back to being a believer and knowing the
- 23:59Speaker 7: work heard and knowing they the rest and God's we're
- 24:03Speaker 7: all those things.
- 24:04Speaker 8: You know.
- 24:05Speaker 7: Yeah, it could sound pretty good if you're in all
- 24:07Speaker 7: that pain and all that stuff to think that, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 7: one day, I'm just going to be at rest with
- 24:12Speaker 7: all this, you know, and I'm going to be with
- 24:14Speaker 7: the Lord.
- 24:15Speaker 8: And so who knows how that all could tie in?
- 24:19Speaker 6: Mm hmm goody.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Yeah, And kind of going back to what you were saying,
- 24:29Speaker 4: you know, uh huh. I once heard this.
- 24:33Speaker 9: I don't remember exactly how it was said, but essentially,
- 24:36Speaker 9: when talking about the life of a believer specifically, if
- 24:39Speaker 9: we're more focused on the destination then the journey, then
- 24:45Speaker 9: I think we've kind of missed some of the point of.
- 24:49Speaker 4: This walk with Christ, right, Like I do, I want.
- 24:54Speaker 9: To get to have an absolutely right Paul talks about
- 24:57Speaker 9: being with the Lord is better than being he said,
- 25:01Speaker 9: it's better that better for you that I stay here
- 25:04Speaker 9: for the chirch, for the for the brethren.
- 25:06Speaker 4: And I often think about that too, is how much.
- 25:09Speaker 9: More of an impact could we make when we're as
- 25:13Speaker 9: as doctor Simmons was saying, is like grounded in the present, right,
- 25:17Speaker 9: Matthew six thirty four. Don't worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow brings
- 25:19Speaker 9: us on troubles. Just focus on today, focus on right now.
- 25:23Speaker 9: And as you were, as you were talking pastors, you know,
- 25:25Speaker 9: we have we have a God who chose us to
- 25:29Speaker 9: be his temple, to dwell within us, to walk with us.
- 25:33Speaker 9: You know, we read in the Old Testament how God
- 25:35Speaker 9: walked with Abraham, he walked in the cool of the
- 25:37Speaker 9: garden with Adam and Eve, and he was with Jacob
- 25:40Speaker 9: and with David and with Joshua and all these people.
- 25:43Speaker 9: And I think it's easy for us to kind of
- 25:45Speaker 9: look at that like, oh man, like God was really
- 25:47Speaker 9: with them, He's with us too, even more so, he's
- 25:51Speaker 9: living with insight of us. That that's something that we
- 25:55Speaker 9: have a responsibility of. And and this is something that
- 25:58Speaker 9: I take as a pastor, is how do I help
- 26:01Speaker 9: people understand the hope in the journey, the hope in
- 26:06Speaker 9: the process as we walk through this life, like, yes,
- 26:10Speaker 9: we're still going to have struggles, but there's such a
- 26:13Speaker 9: beautiful thing of walking with with the Lord. And I
- 26:16Speaker 9: had this picture, me and me and my pastor, Pastor Michael,
- 26:22Speaker 9: we were talking one night and we had this image
- 26:26Speaker 9: of being a child at Disneyland, right, and you know,
- 26:31Speaker 9: you're so excited to get inside the gates, to be
- 26:33Speaker 9: in there and have this great time that you take
- 26:35Speaker 9: off and you run to the gates. Well, when you
- 26:37Speaker 9: get to the gates, you have to wait for your
- 26:39Speaker 9: dad to get there with the tickets, right, And what
- 26:42Speaker 9: a beautiful thing to be able to hold your dad's hand,
- 26:45Speaker 9: to walk up to that gate with him and enjoy
- 26:47Speaker 9: that moment, that excitement as you walk through together.
- 26:50Speaker 6: Right.
- 26:50Speaker 9: And I think sometimes that's where we see as Christians,
- 26:52Speaker 9: like I just got to get to the destination. It's like, no,
- 26:55Speaker 9: there's a beauty in the process of partnering with God,
- 26:58Speaker 9: because that's how He created things in the beginning, was
- 27:00Speaker 9: to partner with him.
- 27:01Speaker 4: That was the whole reason he created human beings, was
- 27:03Speaker 4: to partner with Him in creation, to take care of
- 27:05Speaker 4: that creation.
- 27:07Speaker 9: And I think sometimes we can forget that is, rather
- 27:10Speaker 9: than running to the gates without our father, who has
- 27:13Speaker 9: the tickets, we just need.
- 27:13Speaker 4: To walk with him.
- 27:15Speaker 6: That's good, that's good. Suit.
- 27:20Speaker 10: So I'm since you mentioned that, Cody, I have a
- 27:25Speaker 10: great analogy, and so you know, when we suffer or
- 27:28Speaker 10: when we're going through trials and tribulations, you know what
- 27:31Speaker 10: is it says that God will use our pain like
- 27:33Speaker 10: he can use that to equip us and to develop
- 27:37Speaker 10: us so that we can pull other people out of
- 27:39Speaker 10: the fire. And one thing I was thinking about when
- 27:42Speaker 10: you're talking is I do a lot of Ironman races.
- 27:45Speaker 10: And so at the very end of the one hundred
- 27:47Speaker 10: and forty mile race, you run through a shoot and
- 27:52Speaker 10: on either side of the shoot are people and they're
- 27:54Speaker 10: cheering you on, and then you cross the finish line
- 27:57Speaker 10: and the announcer says, you are an iron Man. And
- 28:01Speaker 10: what I think about a lot when I'm running through
- 28:03Speaker 10: the shoot is all the people that either have helped
- 28:06Speaker 10: me or I have helped get to Heaven through through
- 28:10Speaker 10: trials and struggles and tribulation. And then when you get
- 28:14Speaker 10: to the finish line, you look at the holy you
- 28:16Speaker 10: look at the Lord and he says, well done, well done,
- 28:20Speaker 10: good and faithful servant. And so I think about that
- 28:22Speaker 10: a lot when I'm raising who am I bringing with me?
- 28:26Speaker 10: Who am I kind of pulling out of the fire
- 28:29Speaker 10: and helping them get across the finish line. So when
- 28:32Speaker 10: my day is, my days are up, I will stay
- 28:35Speaker 10: and before the Lord and King will see well served
- 28:38Speaker 10: what you did with what.
- 28:39Speaker 5: You had, I'm gonna bless you with it, now, you
- 28:42Speaker 5: know what I mean.
- 28:42Speaker 10: It's like our pain is not wasted if we can
- 28:45Speaker 10: keep it vertical, if we can find that hope, like
- 28:48Speaker 10: even as small as a faith, as small as a
- 28:51Speaker 10: mustard seed, we can turn tragedy into triumph in our
- 28:55Speaker 10: life and for other people, and bring as many people.
- 28:58Speaker 5: With us across that their finish line as well.
- 29:01Speaker 10: And so I think having I think you said at first,
- 29:03Speaker 10: having that vertical mindset, didn't you say.
- 29:05Speaker 5: That, pastor check keeping that vertical mindset of this, Yeah,
- 29:12Speaker 5: is the end call? How many people with us to heaven?
- 29:17Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 29:17Speaker 3: That's really good, And uh, you know it's hard to
- 29:21Speaker 3: see at the time, but it really is a perspective
- 29:27Speaker 3: that change. It's a game changing perspective. I know, we're
- 29:30Speaker 3: out of time. We can talk about this until Jesus
- 29:32Speaker 3: comes back. Probably we'll be in the middle of a
- 29:34Speaker 3: broadcast when that trumpet sounds and we got to go,
- 29:37Speaker 3: you know. But I just wanted to just show off
- 29:41Speaker 3: these websites really quick.

- 30:34Speaker 6: That would be phenomenal.
- 30:35Speaker 7: Sure, Having Father, we just want to thank you for
- 30:39Speaker 7: this opportunity that we have to get together today and
- 30:42Speaker 7: to hopefully reach so many listeners, and we just asked
- 30:45Speaker 7: that anyone who is struggling with depression or suit the
- 30:48Speaker 7: side of goods. Lord, we asked that you would be
- 30:50Speaker 7: in the compassion of God you are, that you hear
- 30:52Speaker 7: their prize of distress, and we pray that you hear
- 30:55Speaker 7: their brokenness and that you feel the and that they
- 30:57Speaker 7: feel your presence near them. So we asked to provide
- 31:01Speaker 7: comfort and rescue them from their troubles and maybe experience
- 31:04Speaker 7: your closeness. And we just asked it to be with
- 31:07Speaker 7: anyone who need to do right now. Lord, and we
- 31:09Speaker 7: look forward to doing this again and continue to get
- 31:12Speaker 7: your word out there.
