- 0:11Speaker 1: Dragon by Rude Style's Gannet, Chapter eight, My father meets
- 0:17Speaker 1: a gorilla. My father was very hungry, so he sat
- 0:22Speaker 1: down under a baby banyan tree on the side of
- 0:25Speaker 1: the trail and ate four tangerines. He wanted to eat
- 0:30Speaker 1: eight or ten, but he had only thirteen left, and
- 0:33Speaker 1: it might be a long time before he could go
- 0:35Speaker 1: get more. He packed away all the peels and was
- 0:39Speaker 1: about to get up when he heard the familiar voices
- 0:42Speaker 1: of the boars. I wouldn't have believed it if I
- 0:46Speaker 1: hadn't seen them with my own eyes. But wait and
- 0:49Speaker 1: see for yourself. All the tiger's sitting around chewing gum
- 0:53Speaker 1: to beat the band. Old rhinoceros is so busy brushing
- 0:56Speaker 1: his tusk that he doesn't even look round to see
- 0:58Speaker 1: who's going by. And they're all so busy they won't
- 1:02Speaker 1: even talk to me. Horse Feathers said the other boar,
- 1:07Speaker 1: Now very close to my father, they'll talk to me.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I'm going to get to the bottom of this if
- 1:12Speaker 1: it's the last thing I do. The voices passed my
- 1:16Speaker 1: father and went around a curve, and he hurried on
- 1:20Speaker 1: because he knew how much more upset the boars would
- 1:23Speaker 1: be when they saw the lion's mane tied up in
- 1:25Speaker 1: hair ribbons. Before long, my father came to a cross roads,
- 1:31Speaker 1: and he stopped to read the signs. Straight ahead, an
- 1:35Speaker 1: arrow pointed to the beginning of the river. To the
- 1:38Speaker 1: left the ocean rocks, and to the right the dragon fairy.
- 1:43Speaker 1: My father was reading all these signs when he heard
- 1:46Speaker 1: paw steps and duck behind the sign posts. A beautiful
- 1:51Speaker 1: lion is passed and turned down toward the clearings. Although
- 1:56Speaker 1: she could have seen my father if she had bothered
- 1:59Speaker 1: to glance at the pub, she was much too occupied
- 2:02Speaker 1: looking dignified to see anything but the tip of her
- 2:06Speaker 1: own nose. It was the lion's mother, of course, and
- 2:09Speaker 1: that though my father must mean that the dragon was
- 2:13Speaker 1: on this side of the river. He hurried on, but
- 2:17Speaker 1: it was farther away than he had judged. He finally
- 2:20Speaker 1: came to the river bank in the late afternoon and
- 2:23Speaker 1: looked all around, but there was no dragon anywhere in sight.
- 2:28Speaker 1: He must have gone back to the other side. My
- 2:31Speaker 1: father sat down under the palm tree and was trying
- 2:34Speaker 1: to have a good idea when something big and black
- 2:37Speaker 1: and hairy jumped out of the tree and landed with
- 2:39Speaker 1: a loud crash at his feet. Well, said a huge voice.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Well what said my father, for which he was very
- 2:49Speaker 1: sorry when he looked up and discovered he was talking
- 2:51Speaker 1: to an enormous and very fierce gorilla. Well explain yourself,
- 2:57Speaker 1: said the gorilla. I'll give you till ten to tell
- 3:02Speaker 1: me your name, business, your age, what's in that pack?
- 3:07Speaker 1: He began counting to ten as fast as he could.
- 3:10Speaker 1: My father didn't even have time to say Elmer, elevator
- 3:14Speaker 1: explorer before the gorilla interrupted, too slow. I'll twist your
- 3:18Speaker 1: arms the way twist that dragon's winks, and then we'll
- 3:22Speaker 1: see if you can't hurry up a bit. He grabbed
- 3:26Speaker 1: my father's arms, one in each fist and was just
- 3:29Speaker 1: about to twist them when he suddenly let go and
- 3:31Speaker 1: began scratching his chest with both hands. Blast those fleas,
- 3:36Speaker 1: he raged, they won't give you a moment's peace, and
- 3:40Speaker 1: the worst of it is that you can't even get
- 3:42Speaker 1: a good look at them.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Rosie Roda, Rachel, Ruthie Ruby, ROBERTA, come here and get
- 3:51Speaker 2: rid of this flea on my chest. It's driving me crazy.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Six little monkeys tumbled out of the palm tree, dash
- 4:00Speaker 1: to the gorilla and began combing the hair on his chest. Well,
- 4:04Speaker 1: said the gorilla, it's still there. We're looking. We're looking,
- 4:08Speaker 1: said the six little monkeys. But they're awfully hard to see.
- 4:11Speaker 1: You know. Oh, I know, said the gorilla. But hurry,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I've got work to do. He winked at my father, Oh, gorilla,
- 4:19Speaker 1: said my father, and my knapsack. I have six magnifying glasses.
- 4:23Speaker 1: May be just the thing for hunting fleas. My father
- 4:27Speaker 1: unpacked them and gave one to Rosie, one to Rota,
- 4:31Speaker 1: one to Rachel, one to Ruthie, one to Ruby, and
- 4:34Speaker 1: one to ROBERTA. Why they're miraculous, said the six little monkeys.
- 4:40Speaker 1: It's easy to see the fleas now, only there are
- 4:43Speaker 1: hundreds of them, and they went on hunting frantically. A
- 4:48Speaker 1: moment later, many more monkeys appeared out of a nearby
- 4:52Speaker 1: clump of mangroves and began crowding around to get a
- 4:55Speaker 1: look at the fleas through the magnifying glasses. They completely
- 4:59Speaker 1: sur out of the gorilla, and he could not see
- 5:02Speaker 1: my father nor did he remember to twist his arms?
