Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: The Nats stand a chance this election
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The coalition is failing on two numbers that matter to
- 0:03Speaker 1: most of US voters. The most, inflation is up over
- 0:06Speaker 1: three percent, not as bad as the Aussies, not helped
- 0:08Speaker 1: by Trump. But wage growth two percent this year. The
- 0:12Speaker 1: prediction the cost of buying stuff is going up quicker
- 0:15Speaker 1: than we can afford to pay for it by working
- 0:18Speaker 1: our real wages are basically a bit shite. Sorry be
- 0:21Speaker 1: say you know. When Luxon set the election date in January,
- 0:25Speaker 1: he said people needed to feel the recovery, feel a
- 0:28Speaker 1: recovery happening. Well they're not. That's why the right track
- 0:32Speaker 1: wrong track poll results look the way that they do.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Most of us reckon that we're heading in the wrong
- 0:38Speaker 1: direction because they are, and people generally and rightly link
- 0:42Speaker 1: their individual circumstances to that of the country. Now some
- 0:45Speaker 1: of you might be annoyed by this, but these are facts.
- 0:48Speaker 1: You can't argue with them. However, they do not mean
- 0:51Speaker 1: labor is getting back into government, far from it. Elections
- 0:55Speaker 1: are about choices. Is the other guy hawking as wear
- 0:58Speaker 1: has got something better to offer? Labour's got three doctors'
- 1:02Speaker 1: visits at already stretched GP clinics at a world of
- 1:06Speaker 1: financial and tax uncertainty with the Greens Anti Party Mardi
- 1:09Speaker 1: at their site. As I said from the beginning on this,
- 1:12Speaker 1: this coalition will be re elected because they are relatively
- 1:15Speaker 1: stable and Kiwi's generally mostly give first time as a
- 1:21Speaker 1: second shot. These wage inflation numbers are not good for them,
- 1:25Speaker 1: but not fatal either. The risk of the unknown, the
- 1:29Speaker 1: devil you don't know, is, especially during a crisis like this,
- 1:32Speaker 1: will in the end get Luxen re elected Prime Minister.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I still don't think that Kiwi's when they come to
- 1:39Speaker 1: polling booths in November will want to risk getting out
- 1:42Speaker 1: of the frying pan only to end up in the fire.
