- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Hello, It's Jackie Gildschneider and Jen Besler. We are two
- 0:05Speaker 2: Jersey Jays. Hi, guys, I cannot believe that it is November.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Right since we are here in New Jersey. One of
- 0:13Speaker 1: the good things is these is the leaves changing. It's beautiful,
- 0:17Speaker 1: it really is.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I know, I feel like I'm getting really hokey as
- 0:19Speaker 2: i get older, but I drive down the street and
- 0:22Speaker 2: I'm like, it's just so pretty.
- 0:23Speaker 1: It is it is, it is. That's one of the
- 0:25Speaker 1: good That's the news about not living in Florida, which is,
- 0:29Speaker 1: I know, I love the seasons.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I don't think I'll ever be able to leave. Like
- 0:31Speaker 2: I went to college in Boston and it was very,
- 0:33Speaker 2: very cold.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and I was.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Like, you know, I hope my kids go somewhere that's
- 0:37Speaker 2: a little bit warmer, but I still want them.
- 0:39Speaker 1: To have the seasons. Yeah, and I do love fall,
- 0:42Speaker 1: but I can do without winter. Oh it's so cold.
- 0:44Speaker 1: The worst maybe it's snowbird. But the good news is
- 0:47Speaker 1: because fall is in fact here, so is drummer leaves. Well. Thanksgiving,
- 0:54Speaker 1: I know, I love Thanksgiving.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I didn't always love Thanksgiving either, but I love Thanksgivting.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Now it's funny because, oh, by the way, you guys
- 1:03Speaker 1: were talking about Thanksgiving today, which I'm really excited about.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I actually my kids recently before we even decided to
- 1:11Speaker 1: do this episode on Thanksgiving, I guess, we were in
- 1:15Speaker 1: the car and talking about it. My niece was there too,
- 1:18Speaker 1: and I was like, you know, you guys excited for
- 1:20Speaker 1: Thanksgiving and I want to say that my son is like,
- 1:22Speaker 1: oh my god, yes, the best day of the year.
- 1:24Speaker 1: And Danielle, my niece, chimed in, and Rachel chimed in,
- 1:27Speaker 1: and it's like, makes me so unbelievably happy that they
- 1:31Speaker 1: feel that way.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and you like, you're an empty nester, so to
- 1:36Speaker 2: have your kids back home now they live in this city,
- 1:39Speaker 2: so they like do they sleep over though Thanksgiving?
- 1:41Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so we don't have that full house again, and
- 1:45Speaker 2: like the smells of the season and just like how
- 1:48Speaker 2: it's not cold, but it's not warm, and it's just
- 1:51Speaker 2: so festive and everyone's together. The thing is now, as
- 1:55Speaker 2: I get older, it makes me sad sometimes, like the
- 1:59Speaker 2: happiness is mixed with sadness and I wish that it wasn't.
- 2:01Speaker 2: But I like when I think back on old Thanksgivings,
- 2:06Speaker 2: I missed my grandparents. I'm sad about my parents getting older.
- 2:10Speaker 2: I get nervous. Is this my dad's last night? I
- 2:12Speaker 2: hope my dad's not listening, But like I always think, like,
- 2:14Speaker 2: is this my dad's last Thanksgiving? Is this my father
- 2:16Speaker 2: in law's last Thanksgiving? I get nervous and sad, and
- 2:19Speaker 2: I wish I didn't let those thoughts come in, but
- 2:22Speaker 2: they do, And I think I think that's probably the
- 2:24Speaker 2: case for a lot of people.
- 2:25Speaker 1: We always my in laws have passed, and you know,
- 2:30Speaker 1: Thanksgiving was for us. There's so many traditions, and one
- 2:33Speaker 1: of them was that my father in law made every
- 2:36Speaker 1: year this antipast. So my father in law was Jewish
- 2:40Speaker 1: and my mother in law is Italian, and my father
- 2:43Speaker 1: in law was in love with his mother in law,
- 2:46Speaker 1: so she used to make this antipast and every year
- 2:48Speaker 1: he used to make it, and none of us really
- 2:50Speaker 1: ate it. It was huge. It was like all these
- 2:53Speaker 1: Italian meats and cheeses and those little gurkins, and like
- 2:57Speaker 1: at one point I think he even put like sardines
- 2:59Speaker 1: or something thing. And to this day now we make it.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Jeff and Rachel make it. Oh well, I can't say
- 3:05Speaker 1: no one needs to. I think Jeff likes it. Maybe people,
- 3:08Speaker 1: but it always ends up in this big ziplock gets slimy.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I sneak it into the garbage, but it's like, we'll
- 3:13Speaker 1: never not make it because it's just.
- 3:14Speaker 2: It's a traditions, all right, So what are your other traditions?
- 3:17Speaker 2: What was it like for you growing up?
- 3:19Speaker 1: So I was thinking about this, Jack, I don't have
- 3:21Speaker 1: that many memories of Thanksgiving growing up. I really don't,
- 3:25Speaker 1: Like I was thinking back now. I mean, my life
- 3:26Speaker 1: was a very very chaotic, to put it mildly, childhood,
- 3:31Speaker 1: and so I don't remember if I was with my
- 3:35Speaker 1: mom with my dad. Like I'm telling you, I was
- 3:39Speaker 1: thinking about it, and it just wasn't It's not a
- 3:41Speaker 1: memorable part of my childhood. And maybe that's why I
- 3:45Speaker 1: turned into When I first got married and had kids,
- 3:47Speaker 1: I became Martha Stewart around this time. I mean I
- 3:51Speaker 1: had like I was watching the Food Network. I was
- 3:54Speaker 1: getting the Food Network magazine, and I like, this is
- 3:58Speaker 1: not to know me now, is to know like that's
- 4:00Speaker 1: seems so far from who I actually am. I was
- 4:03Speaker 1: combing through recipes. It made me so happy to watch
- 4:06Speaker 1: just I had the Food Network on like a loop
- 4:08Speaker 1: but as maybe because as a kid it wasn't that's special.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I don't remember it being I remember maybe in my
- 4:16Speaker 1: twenties going to my aunt's doing it with my cousins,
- 4:18Speaker 1: but it wasn't like it is now. Now it's like
- 4:21Speaker 1: this huge part of how many people do do you host?
- 4:24Speaker 1: My host? Okay? And how many people? A lot? Depending
- 4:27Speaker 1: some years is more than more than others. I think
- 4:29Speaker 1: it's your maybe twenty five. Oh wow, that's a lot.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we started hosting. You know, my Thanksgivings as
- 4:35Speaker 2: an adult have been.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Very like split up.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah, because you know so, I'm estranged from my sister,
- 4:44Speaker 2: and so we never had Thanksgiving as a family, so
- 4:48Speaker 2: as a full family, but I don't really even know her,
- 4:50Speaker 2: so it's like weird to me, like it always felt
- 4:52Speaker 2: like a full family, but I knew she wasn't there.
- 4:55Speaker 1: So my parents were very split in the middle of course.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And what about growing up though? Were you growing up?
- 5:00Speaker 2: She was always there, but always like we never going directed, no, no, no.
- 5:03Speaker 2: We always had all four of my grandparents and my
- 5:06Speaker 2: dad had a brother, and his brother and his wife
- 5:09Speaker 2: and two kids would come. I'm I'm his sister, the
- 5:11Speaker 2: sister and her husband and their kids would come, so
- 5:15Speaker 2: we always had a very full house. Yeah, because I
- 5:18Speaker 2: had four cousins who were right around my age. I
- 5:22Speaker 2: did lose one of my cousins when I was in
- 5:24Speaker 2: my twenties. Yeah, he had a heart attack.
- 5:26Speaker 1: My gosh, awful.
- 5:27Speaker 2: But I had four cousins that were right around my age,
- 5:30Speaker 2: and we just had the best time together exactly. And
- 5:32Speaker 2: I was always, you know, my brother, we always had
- 5:35Speaker 2: a good time together, and my sister didn't really interact
- 5:37Speaker 2: that much, but you know, it was like I always
- 5:40Speaker 2: had a great time.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I had the what I do remember the Thanksgivings when
- 5:43Speaker 1: I was in my twenties because I was living in
- 5:45Speaker 1: New York and I'd go to my aunt and uncles
- 5:47Speaker 1: and my cousins. Like being with my cousins was always
- 5:50Speaker 1: just both Robin and myself. That was just the best.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I know, it really was.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Like That's one thing I'm so grateful for is even
- 5:57Speaker 2: though I don't speak to my sister, my kids and
- 6:00Speaker 2: their cousins are very close. I mean they were a
- 6:02Speaker 2: little older, but like Friday, We're.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Going to have dinner with my parents and my cousins.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Their cousins are coming, Like.
- 6:08Speaker 2: They really do love each other, but there's a there's
- 6:10Speaker 2: a pretty big age gap.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So it's nice that you guys were able to. Yeah,
- 6:15Speaker 1: that's not an easy care anymore, what's you know?
- 6:18Speaker 2: I mean, like I it is, and as they get older,
- 6:21Speaker 2: it's even harder because everyone has their own lives and
- 6:25Speaker 2: you know too, are in college and so it's just hard.
- 6:27Speaker 2: But anyway, so we were all split up for so
- 6:33Speaker 2: every Thanksgiving was my parents would go to me one
- 6:36Speaker 2: and then we would go to Evan's parents on the
- 6:39Speaker 2: year that we weren't with my parents. And then in
- 6:43Speaker 2: recent years it just got too hard for our parents
- 6:48Speaker 2: to go through the whole Thanksgiving set up. So it
- 6:52Speaker 2: was a lot for Evan's parents are both in their
- 6:53Speaker 2: mid eighties and.
- 6:57Speaker 1: It's a lot for them to host, just like I've
- 6:59Speaker 1: hosted year for the past. I always since I probably
- 7:02Speaker 1: since I got married, we've been hosting. But I just
- 7:04Speaker 1: had this like memory of my mother in law and
- 7:06Speaker 1: she was sickly, but she for years she would get
- 7:09Speaker 1: wheeled in in the same coat. It's like it had
- 7:14Speaker 1: she's like leather with fur, and she always had her
- 7:16Speaker 1: aid with her and we'd wheel her in and I
- 7:18Speaker 1: would help her take off her coat, and she was
- 7:20Speaker 1: so excited about Thanksgiving. But she was and she was
- 7:23Speaker 1: so easy, like my in laws were both just the
- 7:26Speaker 1: most like loving, wonderful, easy people. And she would just
- 7:31Speaker 1: sit there like actually cry a little because she was like,
- 7:36Speaker 1: I don't know, I feel bad for Jeff. Thanks, thanks,
- 7:38Speaker 1: thanks for saying it. Yeah, now it's good. You just
- 7:40Speaker 1: ruined my whole Thanksgiving. No, but I just I miss that,
- 7:44Speaker 1: I missed just her presence, you know. But yeah, and
- 7:46Speaker 1: she loved it. So she loved the food.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I have to say that I'm very lucky. Also, I
- 7:51Speaker 2: have wonderful in laws, so I do look forward to
- 7:53Speaker 2: these holidays that were all together. And this year my
- 7:56Speaker 2: parents and Evan's parents are both coming to me, so
- 7:58Speaker 2: it's really nice. And Evan's sister and my brother and.
- 8:02Speaker 1: So it's nice, you know. Good.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I'll tell you one really funny, okay Thanksgiving story. Okay,
- 8:15Speaker 2: when I was in law school, I had a boyfriend
- 8:20Speaker 2: and his It was just him and his.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Brother were the kids, two boys.
- 8:27Speaker 2: And their mom super super warm, very warm. And my
- 8:31Speaker 2: parents got close to their parents and they came over
- 8:35Speaker 2: for Thanksgiving one year when we were together, and his
- 8:40Speaker 2: mom had way too much wine at the Thanksgiving table,
- 8:44Speaker 2: and you know, we were in the early twenties. We
- 8:46Speaker 2: weren't getting married yet, you know, but like we were
- 8:49Speaker 2: starting to like think about serious and his mom got
- 8:54Speaker 2: really drunk at the table at the Thanksgiving table and
- 8:56Speaker 2: she said, really loud.
- 8:58Speaker 1: She said, I'm always going to be your best girl, right.
- 9:03Speaker 2: And my mom looked at me and she was like,
- 9:07Speaker 2: did you just hear what to say?
- 9:10Speaker 1: And she repeated that line to me like for years afterwards.
- 9:14Speaker 1: She was like, I'm always going to be your best girl, right.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Oh my god, that's so I know.
- 9:18Speaker 2: But I's a perfect Thanksgiving story. Yeah, And he was like, oh,
- 9:22Speaker 2: like he didn't know what to say.
- 9:25Speaker 1: But yeah, obviously what I'll say to my son. At
- 9:27Speaker 1: some point. I didn't end up marrying him, but not
- 9:29Speaker 1: because of that. Well, that would have been a good
- 9:31Speaker 1: enough reason. Yeah. I asked my kids. I sent like
- 9:34Speaker 1: a family uh text whatever, a group text, and I
- 9:37Speaker 1: said to them, we're doing this Thanksgiving podcasts, you know.
- 9:41Speaker 1: And it's funny because I'm so happy to ask them
- 9:43Speaker 1: because I'm just so curious because they did recently say it.
- 9:45Speaker 1: It's like their favorite Like, what do you have any
- 9:48Speaker 1: like funny things that you remember, and I got like flooded.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Oh tell me something that was really cool. Well, some
- 9:56Speaker 1: were not that funny, but like so Rachel sent me
- 10:01Speaker 1: one that said, when you guys were like where the kids.
- 10:05Speaker 1: The kids were always in the basement hanging out doing
- 10:07Speaker 1: their things, so cute that they all would go down there,
- 10:10Speaker 1: even like the younger ones. And it was years before
- 10:13Speaker 1: he realized they were down there getting baked, Like, oh
- 10:15Speaker 1: no way, Like every Thanksgiving my kids were like in
- 10:18Speaker 1: high school, and the older cousins would they come back
- 10:21Speaker 1: up stairs and eat everything insight. But who knew, I
- 10:24Speaker 1: mean it was Thanksgiving now we all just join them.
- 10:29Speaker 1: And then one of my cousins. The cousins always bring
- 10:32Speaker 1: their animals and not this year because we have these
- 10:34Speaker 1: ugly cats, but whatever, but one of the dogs got
- 10:37Speaker 1: out and chased the neighbor's cat up the tree, and
- 10:41Speaker 1: for hours we were all dealing with this. There were
- 10:44Speaker 1: so many like glitches all the time, which just like
- 10:46Speaker 1: makes it kind of fun. My kids also, they're so
- 10:49Speaker 1: tied into the traditions. Like I say to them every year,
- 10:53Speaker 1: I get so sick of the same Thanksgiving food and
- 10:57Speaker 1: they're so sentimental about it, which also secretly like makes
- 11:00Speaker 1: me so happy. So but it's like the same stupid
- 11:05Speaker 1: like games every So, like Jeff has this thing and
- 11:08Speaker 1: he has to make the sweet potatoes the yams, and
- 11:11Speaker 1: he makes a whole production out of it, and how
- 11:14Speaker 1: great they are. He literally takes cans of yams, MUSHes
- 11:18Speaker 1: them up, puts some brown sugar and marshmallows. But it's
- 11:22Speaker 1: a whole thing about his secret recipe, and Daddy has
- 11:25Speaker 1: to make the yams or maybe in there. I mean,
- 11:29Speaker 1: one can only hope because they get so much attention.
- 11:31Speaker 1: But like every like, it has to be for cooking
- 11:34Speaker 1: something I love. Really, that's not cooking, that's that's oh
- 11:38Speaker 1: my god, I cook not you don't. No, I don't cook. Well,
- 11:42Speaker 1: A big reason.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Why I don't cook is because for twenty years I
- 11:47Speaker 2: didn't eat, so I never wanted to taste. When you're anorexic,
- 11:52Speaker 2: like every bite matters, So I never wanted to taste
- 11:56Speaker 2: anything that I was cooking. So since I couldn't taste it,
- 12:00Speaker 2: want to subject everyone else to it.
- 12:02Speaker 1: So I never cooked. Now will you? Now, I'm just
- 12:06Speaker 1: really not interesting.
- 12:08Speaker 2: We just order in yeah with cater Well, for many years,
- 12:10Speaker 2: we were members of a country club, so we would
- 12:13Speaker 2: cater from there because we had this money amount that
- 12:15Speaker 2: we had to ease out dining, and we never went
- 12:17Speaker 2: there when we would go out to eat, so we
- 12:19Speaker 2: never really used the money. So we'd cater in the holidays.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Now we cater from a local place. Yeah, it's delishous.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I mean yeah, even if I wanted to or even
- 12:30Speaker 1: to change it up, I feel guilty because it's like
- 12:33Speaker 1: the one day a year it's this big family event.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I know everybody is gets so excited for it, and
- 12:40Speaker 1: I didn't have this growing up like it is so
- 12:42Speaker 1: such a cherished I'm so proud of myself, first of
- 12:45Speaker 1: all that I have hosted it, and that I've given
- 12:48Speaker 1: this to my kids, and because again I can't even
- 12:51Speaker 1: remember Thanksgiving as a kid, and I know these are
- 12:54Speaker 1: like for my kids to say it's the best day
- 12:56Speaker 1: of the year. But like silly things like so I
- 12:59Speaker 1: like prep the turkey with my best friend, you know,
- 13:02Speaker 1: my friend Helene, So her and I since the kids
- 13:04Speaker 1: were very little, for whatever reason, I figured out how
- 13:06Speaker 1: to do turkey and she had this recipe for brisket.
- 13:09Speaker 1: So neither one of us ever writes it down and
- 13:12Speaker 1: we're on the phone all day figuring it out, like
- 13:14Speaker 1: remembering again. And then you put this in the brisket
- 13:16Speaker 1: and this ginger ale and this and whatever the turkey
- 13:18Speaker 1: do you tie it so like that's fun. And then
- 13:21Speaker 1: we get ready. And then at two in the morning,
- 13:23Speaker 1: Jeff and I wake up because we want our ovens
- 13:24Speaker 1: to be empty. And plus you put like hot gravy
- 13:26Speaker 1: on it, and we put it in. We put the
- 13:28Speaker 1: turkey in the morning to do this. We get like
- 13:31Speaker 1: twenty five pound turkey, kind a turkey breast, so we
- 13:33Speaker 1: put it all links. We win our ovens free like
- 13:35Speaker 1: once every cause my family starts pouring in at like
- 13:38Speaker 1: nine am. Wow, we start pouring mimosas at like well
- 13:41Speaker 1: nine am. So but when the kids wake up, like
- 13:45Speaker 1: the whole house smells like turkey. Oh, I know that's
- 13:48Speaker 1: so nice. Week.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Can I tell you one story from last year? And
- 13:51Speaker 2: then we'll get into some of our stuff. But you know,
- 13:54Speaker 2: I'm a real sucker from my dad, and so we
- 13:57Speaker 2: order all our Thanksgiving stuff like weeks and weeks in advance.
- 14:00Speaker 2: And so my dad calls me two days before Thanksgiving
- 14:04Speaker 2: and he says, Jackie, I want a fried turkey this year,
- 14:07Speaker 2: and I'm like, a fried turkey, I don't know what
- 14:11Speaker 2: to be getting, you know. So he's like, do you
- 14:13Speaker 2: think you can get one? I said, all right, I'll
- 14:15Speaker 2: figure it out, right. So I call the place we
- 14:19Speaker 2: cat it from and they're like, yeah, we're definitely not
- 14:22Speaker 2: going to be able to give you a fried turkey
- 14:23Speaker 2: right now, like we're totally done taking orders. So I
- 14:27Speaker 2: sit down on my computer and I call every place
- 14:30Speaker 2: within a half hour radius or a forty five minute
- 14:33Speaker 2: radius where I could get a fried turkey, and there
- 14:35Speaker 2: is just none to be had. So I go on
- 14:39Speaker 2: some like online you're not going to tell me you
- 14:40Speaker 2: got a fright?
- 14:41Speaker 1: Wait? No, I didn't, Okay.
- 14:43Speaker 2: So I go on this online forum and there's a
- 14:46Speaker 2: bunch of people saying, don't judge me, okay, no room
- 14:51Speaker 2: to day that the best fried turkeys are at Popeyes.
- 14:54Speaker 2: So Evan's like, you are not getting Popeyes for they
- 14:57Speaker 2: told me so anyway, I'm like, all right, I got
- 15:00Speaker 2: come through from my dad because I promised.
- 15:02Speaker 1: So I go to Popeye's the day before.
- 15:05Speaker 2: So it turns out that fried turkey is not like
- 15:07Speaker 2: a deep fried turkey, Like there's not like a batter
- 15:09Speaker 2: crust on like fried chicken. It's this way of I
- 15:12Speaker 2: think it means like it's like a Cajun rub spice.
- 15:15Speaker 2: I mean it's like a little bit denser than a
- 15:17Speaker 2: regular turkey. But anyway, I go to Popeyes, I'm like,
- 15:20Speaker 2: do you.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Have a fried turkey.
- 15:21Speaker 2: It's not fully cooked, it's marinated in this like fried
- 15:24Speaker 2: Cajun Southern whatever. I get the fried turkey, it take
- 15:27Speaker 2: it home. I stick it in the oven, I cook it,
- 15:30Speaker 2: I bring it out. I'm like, this is this is
- 15:32Speaker 2: the fried turkey. He's like, all right, let me tell you.
- 15:34Speaker 2: My entire family ignored the regular turkey that come on.
- 15:38Speaker 2: It was so good. It was so so good.
- 15:42Speaker 1: This year I'm getting it. I mean, this year, I'm
- 15:44Speaker 1: not going to get it from Popeyes, but the fried turkey,
- 15:46Speaker 1: and it's the best. Yeah. It was delicious. I was
- 15:48Speaker 1: really like juicy inside.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Wow.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Yeah you go. Jeff starts thinking about Thanksgiving literally, like
- 15:55Speaker 1: I don't know, halfway through October, already has his order
- 15:57Speaker 1: in it. Goffle Farms. Goffle Farms. Is this farm? Do
- 16:00Speaker 1: they go? Yeah? Fresh killed? I feel like one episode
- 16:03Speaker 1: of the New Jersey Housewives, Teresa and Joe Joe, jud
- 16:09Speaker 1: Dicey might have gone and picked up their turkey at
- 16:13Speaker 1: like a fresh kill place, maybe Goffle Farms. Oh really well,
- 16:16Speaker 1: probably everything's local.
- 16:17Speaker 2: That wasn't the episode where they were sitting at the
- 16:19Speaker 2: picnic table and he took the phone call.
- 16:21Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, this is Thanksgiving. Wasn't that like
- 16:23Speaker 1: a vineyard? And yeah, I think those Italy or who knows, Oh,
- 16:26Speaker 1: I don't know, but this was no, this was like
- 16:28Speaker 1: Thanksgiving time and like they went and Esa had on.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I don't know why all of a sudden that popped
- 16:33Speaker 1: into my head, but anyway, so Jeff orders it and
- 16:36Speaker 1: I go and pick it up usually for whatever reason,
- 16:40Speaker 1: and I get so upset because you can like they're
- 16:43Speaker 1: fresh killed, and it's like you see the turkeys like
- 16:46Speaker 1: rooming around. No I know, you know, So so what
- 16:52Speaker 1: do you do? So everybody comes, everybody start point, momoses
- 16:55Speaker 1: and so listen. My family is big and loving and dysfunctional,
- 17:01Speaker 1: So it's not like there's always if you stop and listen,
- 17:05Speaker 1: somebody's whispering about somebody in some corner, like that's that's
- 17:08Speaker 1: just the way you guys be talking about politics. I
- 17:12Speaker 1: don't think so I don't think, well, we've gotten into
- 17:14Speaker 1: it a few years, and I don't I don't think
- 17:16Speaker 1: there was a year you have a big divide. Things
- 17:19Speaker 1: have shifted somewhat, but there was a year it didn't
- 17:23Speaker 1: start at Thanksgiving, but my cousin, one of my cousins,
- 17:25Speaker 1: didn't even come to Thanksgiving because her and I had
- 17:28Speaker 1: had such we were such a bad place because of politics,
- 17:31Speaker 1: and which is so sad I think about it now.
- 17:34Speaker 1: She's one of like the people I love the most
- 17:35Speaker 1: in the world, and I didn't speak to her for
- 17:37Speaker 1: over a year. And it's funny because then they she
- 17:42Speaker 1: couldn't come because of her mother in law. And this
- 17:44Speaker 1: year is the first year they're back in like four years,
- 17:46Speaker 1: and I'm so everybody's so excited. But so I probably
- 17:52Speaker 1: will put a like a ban on any political talk.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I mean, it's the timing of it could be worse. Right,
- 18:00Speaker 1: it's like right after the election. So I think that
- 18:04Speaker 1: a few weeks nerves will be for a few weeks.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I cannot ban my father from talking about anything.
- 18:09Speaker 2: My dad will do whatever he wants to do, which
- 18:12Speaker 2: is what I love about him. Yeah, but he will
- 18:14Speaker 2: do whatever he wants to do whenever he wants to do. Yeah,
- 18:16Speaker 2: so good for him. I do want to get to
- 18:26Speaker 2: because I just all of this like just I don't know.
- 18:28Speaker 2: It makes me happy to talk about, but I want
- 18:30Speaker 2: to know. Like you don't cook, I cook, but also
- 18:33Speaker 2: like what do you guys have? Like I cook every year.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I'm in charge of the turkey and the brisket, so
- 18:39Speaker 2: those are the two biggies. And I also make these
- 18:41Speaker 2: cookies every year. I make them two days before I
- 18:43Speaker 2: freeze them. Jeff makes yams and antipas. My kids always
- 18:47Speaker 2: want to make something, but everything else is I just
- 18:50Speaker 2: like give out assignments. Like everybody comes and there's so
- 18:55Speaker 2: much food it is vulgar. But I am the best.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Now I can make turkey and brisket like with the
- 19:03Speaker 1: best of them. Really, Oh my god, I'm so good.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I don't cook anything, but our policy is we get
- 19:10Speaker 2: all the main course food and appetizer food, and we
- 19:15Speaker 2: let everybody bring dessert or wine. Okay, So the grandparents
- 19:20Speaker 2: love bringing dessert because it's really the kids who eat
- 19:23Speaker 2: the dessert and it makes them happy to make the
- 19:26Speaker 2: kids happy.
- 19:27Speaker 1: So we leave that to them.
- 19:30Speaker 2: And my mother and father live in Central New Jersey
- 19:34Speaker 2: and there's all these farms around that, so they go
- 19:37Speaker 2: to this place called wem Rock and get like these
- 19:40Speaker 2: most delicious pies. So yeah, Thanksgiving for me for many
- 19:46Speaker 2: years was you know, like a very joyous holiday because
- 19:49Speaker 2: I loved being with family. But the food, the food,
- 19:52Speaker 2: you know, everything with food was always an issue for me.
- 19:54Speaker 2: But Thanksgiving in particular, there's so much emphasis on not
- 19:59Speaker 2: just eating, on overeating, yes, and it was always a
- 20:02Speaker 2: really really uncomfortable setting for me because my rules never
- 20:08Speaker 2: there was never any like leniency in the way that
- 20:10Speaker 2: I ate, and so it was really hard for me
- 20:15Speaker 2: to get around that at the Thanksgiving table, like to
- 20:18Speaker 2: fake it and to be able to not eat and
- 20:21Speaker 2: your family pick up on it. I mean, everybody knew
- 20:24Speaker 2: I was sick.
- 20:25Speaker 1: There was nothing you could do.
- 20:26Speaker 2: But for a long time, it was really uncomfortable for
- 20:31Speaker 2: me to sit there while everyone just kept eating and
- 20:33Speaker 2: eating and eating, and for me to have eaten my
- 20:36Speaker 2: portion and not be able to like you know, to
- 20:41Speaker 2: give myself any flexibility. It was very very hard for me.
- 20:44Speaker 2: But I do remember so before I was anorexic, I
- 20:47Speaker 2: was always a very big yoyo dieter. My first diet
- 20:50Speaker 2: weight Watchers nineteen ninety four. After that, I was a
- 20:53Speaker 2: humongous yoyo diter. I mean like up twenty town, twenty twenty, down.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Twenty yes and came to the right place.
- 20:59Speaker 2: My sophomore year in college, I came home from school
- 21:03Speaker 2: and I had gained a little bit of weight, which
- 21:07Speaker 2: always very very hard for me to come home. When
- 21:10Speaker 2: I gained weight, I never felt good about myself. I
- 21:12Speaker 2: didn't want to see anybody.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Especially see my dad and my mom too.
- 21:16Speaker 2: But it was like everybody people from high school, even
- 21:19Speaker 2: my parents, my dad, you know, like they wouldn't say anything,
- 21:22Speaker 2: but like I could tell that they could tell, you know,
- 21:24Speaker 2: Like I just always felt very bad and I felt
- 21:26Speaker 2: terrible about myself. And that Thanksgiving was the only time
- 21:30Speaker 2: I ever like really binge. I remember just eating a
- 21:34Speaker 2: pie and I couldn't stop, and I was just eating
- 21:36Speaker 2: the pie and eating the pie, and I was like
- 21:38Speaker 2: fuck it, and I just kept eating the pie and
- 21:41Speaker 2: I canceled all my plans. I didn't have that many
- 21:43Speaker 2: friends in high school. I had a really hard time
- 21:44Speaker 2: in high school, but I did have some plans that weekend,
- 21:47Speaker 2: and I canceled all them.
- 21:48Speaker 1: I could literally couldn't even button my pants and I
- 21:50Speaker 1: felt sick to my stomach.
- 21:52Speaker 2: And you know, even in recovery, Thanksgiving is one of
- 21:55Speaker 2: those holidays where I feel this pressure to eat more
- 21:58Speaker 2: than I want to eat. So it's always it's always
- 22:01Speaker 2: been a pretty loaded holiday from a food perspective, just me.
- 22:07Speaker 1: But I do enjoy now being.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Able to eat everything and taste everything, and I give myself,
- 22:12Speaker 2: you know, of course, permission to eat everything that I want,
- 22:15Speaker 2: but I also.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Try to stop. Well, we get full, it's because you're
- 22:19Speaker 1: and I hate this, because we have. We start eating
- 22:21Speaker 1: appetizers and whatever, and then by the time dinner is served,
- 22:25Speaker 1: there's been so much picking and that like we sit
- 22:29Speaker 1: down for I don't know, maybe forty minutes and it's
- 22:32Speaker 1: been so much prep, days of prep, and then so full,
- 22:36Speaker 1: so sick, bring out dessert anyway. And then usually what
- 22:40Speaker 1: happens is the adult and I can't believe I'm saying that,
- 22:44Speaker 1: but I mean the grandparents they leave now like everybody's
- 22:48Speaker 1: still sort of hanging out and they don't sleep over, no,
- 22:52Speaker 1: but then we all start eating again. Usually it's like,
- 22:56Speaker 1: but what is.
- 22:56Speaker 2: It like on ozebic? If you don't mind me asking
- 22:58Speaker 2: you out eat ozempic.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean honestly, like the level of fullness that
- 23:05Speaker 1: you get isn't like, oh God, I'm gonna die, Like it's.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Not I don't know fullness like that. I never eat
- 23:11Speaker 2: to that level, which is like a mental thing.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't even know the science behind it.
- 23:17Speaker 1: But there are times when I like don't even like
- 23:22Speaker 1: ozempics mozembic, Like I don't even feel it. It's like
- 23:26Speaker 1: sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, but especially when I'm
- 23:29Speaker 1: like looking forward to a meal, like even like tonight,
- 23:31Speaker 1: we're going out for my niece's birthday, and so just
- 23:34Speaker 1: like any other I guess person that doesn't like I
- 23:38Speaker 1: really won't eat that much during the day to day
- 23:39Speaker 1: because I want to have like a great appetite. We're
- 23:41Speaker 1: going to this I don't know, special dumpling place that
- 23:43Speaker 1: she wants to go to. But are you hungry and
- 23:45Speaker 1: you're not eating or you just don't even feel the hungry? No,
- 23:47Speaker 1: I do, Oh I feel hunger. It's I can't. I mean,
- 23:51Speaker 1: it's such a good question. I wish I had the answer.
- 23:53Speaker 1: But yes, I am absolutely able to eat way more
- 23:57Speaker 1: than I usually would enjoy it more. But Also, it's
- 24:01Speaker 1: funny because Jeff got on recently what he got on ozmpic.
- 24:05Speaker 1: We always say ozempic, right, that's what that's the catch
- 24:09Speaker 1: or whatever it is. And yeah, and he said to me,
- 24:11Speaker 1: he's like, I'm gonna go off it because I want
- 24:14Speaker 1: to have a really good appetite for Thanksgiving. He's never
- 24:17Speaker 1: had a Thanksgiving on it, so which, yeah, you know,
- 24:20Speaker 1: go for it. He tolerated, He's tolerated very well. He
- 24:24Speaker 1: hasn't had he's lost like he needed to lose some
- 24:27Speaker 1: weight because he just has tried everything and crazy diets.
- 24:32Speaker 1: And I just was worried because he's he's short, you know,
- 24:35Speaker 1: and he is just this big belly and it's kind
- 24:38Speaker 1: of dangerous when you're short, I think, but really short
- 24:40Speaker 1: or really tall, right, and his grandfather had heart disease.
- 24:44Speaker 1: So anyway, because he's not a vain person, he wasn't like,
- 24:48Speaker 1: you know, you don't have to justify it to each through.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I know, yeah I don't, but whatever, I mean, I
- 24:53Speaker 1: don't agree with it when you don't.
- 24:56Speaker 2: My my issue is with the unregulated use, but that's
- 24:59Speaker 2: for another time. Like if he's being if he needed
- 25:02Speaker 2: it and for health reasons and he's watching himself and
- 25:04Speaker 2: he was overweight, then go for it.
- 25:06Speaker 1: So he I don't know, he's lost like probably maybe
- 25:11Speaker 1: eight pounds. Those we love it. It's just it's a
- 25:13Speaker 1: very listen, we won't go too deep into this, but yeah,
- 25:16Speaker 1: but everybody, when I find when people get on it,
- 25:18Speaker 1: they're like, it's a very strange thing to not have
- 25:21Speaker 1: your brain so preoccupied with food or to like get satiated.
- 25:28Speaker 1: And I, well, he did. It's a different thing. I
- 25:31Speaker 1: always had eating disorder, not always, but in and out
- 25:33Speaker 1: of eating disorders, but like I never knew what it
- 25:35Speaker 1: was like to just not be in the mood, Yeah,
- 25:37Speaker 1: to like push like alright, I'm done. I don't need that.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I mean, there are moments where I'm like, God, I
- 25:41Speaker 2: could get rid of all of this. I could stop
- 25:43Speaker 2: worrying about everything, sure, you know, but then I would
- 25:48Speaker 2: never do it personally, because number one, that's not the way,
- 25:52Speaker 2: that's not the relationship with food that I want for myself.
- 25:55Speaker 2: But also the knowing that I'd have to be on
- 25:58Speaker 2: it forever and that without it I would gain so
- 26:02Speaker 2: much weight it would make me crazy mentally.
- 26:05Speaker 1: I know. So I get that. I fully get that. Yeah, anyway, Okay,
- 26:09Speaker 1: let's transition. Do you shop? Do you go out that
- 26:12Speaker 1: night shopping? So we used to not, well, that's not true.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I guess it was still No, it was morning. But
- 26:17Speaker 1: we used to get up on Thanksgiving and it used
- 26:19Speaker 1: to be way colder. Whatever this is about global warming
- 26:22Speaker 1: or whatever, but it used to be freezing on Thanksgiving
- 26:25Speaker 1: here in New Jersey. And we would get up, especially
- 26:27Speaker 1: my cousin Debbie and I, at like four o'clock in
- 26:31Speaker 1: the morning for Black Friday. We would yes, we would
- 26:34Speaker 1: bundle up, we stop Dunkin Donuts. It was a lot
- 26:37Speaker 1: of times it was four of us. I have two
- 26:38Speaker 1: cousins and would be my sister and my two and
- 26:40Speaker 1: we would go stand online. And this is at the
- 26:43Speaker 1: time where like we had little ones, so like we'd
- 26:46Speaker 1: stand online at Toys r Us and waiting to get
- 26:50Speaker 1: in and then oh, Jackie, it was so much fun.
- 26:54Speaker 1: I mean, I guess it wasn't when we were freezing,
- 26:56Speaker 1: but I have such great memories of it. Like Toys
- 26:58Speaker 1: r Us is not even around anymore, which breaks my heart.
- 27:00Speaker 1: But you know, it was the best and you get
- 27:03Speaker 1: the yes and you'd get into that toy store and
- 27:05Speaker 1: everything have let's say like a yellow tag and two
- 27:09Speaker 1: for one, and you felt like you were I know.
- 27:12Speaker 1: It was so fun, you know, Formonica.
- 27:14Speaker 2: I used to stick the kids in when they were
- 27:17Speaker 2: really little, you know, so they were all really close
- 27:19Speaker 2: in age.
- 27:20Speaker 1: They were only two years apart.
- 27:21Speaker 2: So when they were like four and two, I used
- 27:24Speaker 2: to take them to the one in Paramus right so
- 27:26Speaker 2: near where jen Aiden lives. And there was a huge
- 27:29Speaker 2: choice of us and I'd have two in the wagon
- 27:33Speaker 2: right and then two like.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Walking with me.
- 27:36Speaker 2: And I used to let them pick out like a
- 27:39Speaker 2: few gifts each for Hankah, and it was just the funnest.
- 27:42Speaker 2: I never like four hours, oh my god, and your
- 27:44Speaker 2: little kid comes back in like I would want to
- 27:46Speaker 2: go into the doll section. Now, Rachel, of course was
- 27:48Speaker 2: never into dolls, right, she was always into like, you know,
- 27:52Speaker 2: I don't know, different, and I wanted her because I
- 27:54Speaker 2: was so into baby dolls. And I would go into
- 27:55Speaker 2: the doll section and like you're you know, you're inner,
- 27:59Speaker 2: little girl all comes out and I just, I don't know,
- 28:01Speaker 2: I loved it. I loved it, loved it, loved it,
- 28:03Speaker 2: like I don't know.
- 28:05Speaker 1: That was toy stores.
- 28:06Speaker 2: They're so great, you know, toy stores and you know
- 28:08Speaker 2: what else I miss video stores?
- 28:11Speaker 1: Really. I remember the smell of.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Video store, well sort of Blockbuster. There was this one
- 28:16Speaker 2: on Staten Islands that we used to go to. My
- 28:18Speaker 2: dad and I used to go every week, right, and
- 28:21Speaker 2: it was called Selective Video. And I remember looking I
- 28:25Speaker 2: used to look at the dirty covers.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Yeah, like and there was this movie spring Break.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Do you remember that movie spring Break where they went
- 28:31Speaker 2: to Fort Lauderdale And on the cover there was like
- 28:33Speaker 2: a girl in a bikini and her body was stretched
- 28:36Speaker 2: out on the sand and like there was little figurines
- 28:39Speaker 2: of all the guys walking on her body.
- 28:41Speaker 1: And I used to think it was like porn. I
- 28:44Speaker 1: loved it.
- 28:45Speaker 2: I used to look at like the porky'st cover and
- 28:47Speaker 2: like I thought it was like porn.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Yeah. I love the smell of a video So I
- 28:52Speaker 1: love going in there because I love like it in
- 28:54Speaker 1: the candy and the boxes. Yeah, that was your night,
- 28:56Speaker 1: Like like are listening to do or don't remember that?
- 29:00Speaker 1: But that was like TV simpler time.
- 29:04Speaker 2: God, everything was so much simpler and no phones and
- 29:06Speaker 2: like the kids know, like the concept of the fact
- 29:08Speaker 2: that we didn't have phones when we were growing up,
- 29:09Speaker 2: but like how.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Beautiful and even just from then to now, like the
- 29:14Speaker 1: times that we would go to toys r us. Now
- 29:16Speaker 1: everything is online. We don't get up. We shot, we
- 29:19Speaker 1: try to get out there, but even getting out there
- 29:21Speaker 1: doesn't matter because we know that we could something about
- 29:23Speaker 1: the fact that we could be home and on our
- 29:24Speaker 1: computer and on getting Amazon Prime. It's like and it
- 29:29Speaker 1: just took away. It takes away this. I know.
- 29:30Speaker 2: It makes me worry, like there's so many beautiful, real
- 29:35Speaker 2: life things that are being missed. Yeah, that are just online.
- 29:39Speaker 2: This is like a very glum sad. No, no, it's amazing. Listen,
- 29:44Speaker 2: you're alive, you're breathing. It's thank god.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Hey, now you're.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Having family over for Thanksgiving. I have all four of
- 29:50Speaker 2: my in laws, I have my four healthy kids.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Like, it's amazing. Do you guys do I like Black
- 29:54Speaker 1: Friday because you're also thinking about the next celebration, which
- 29:58Speaker 1: is whatever Christmas?
- 30:00Speaker 2: Like I am that jew who absolutely loves Christmas music.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Yeah, me too. Oh my god, you put me you
- 30:07Speaker 1: tarn a candle and put on some Christmas music too.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I don't cry at a Folders's commercial. I love it.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I love Christmas specials. I love Christmas. I love fireplaces,
- 30:16Speaker 1: I love Christmas trees. I love driving around my neighbor
- 30:19Speaker 1: looking at the lights. Yep, I love all of it.
- 30:21Speaker 2: I love a friends giving. Yes, I love my friends
- 30:24Speaker 2: around the holidays.
- 30:24Speaker 1: I love being cozy. Yeah, I love all of it.
- 30:27Speaker 1: I do too. Yeah.
- 30:28Speaker 2: So I guess even with technology and online and social media.
- 30:32Speaker 1: There is there is still beautiful you know moments.
- 30:36Speaker 2: But I do think that it's a particularly hard time
- 30:41Speaker 2: with social media for people who are lonely, who maybe
- 30:44Speaker 2: don't have the family. But we'll do a loneliness episode
- 30:47Speaker 2: one day, because I think that's an epidemic that really
- 30:48Speaker 2: needs to be addressed. But I can't imagine like you
- 30:51Speaker 2: and I having these wonderful thanksgivings. Yours are bigger than mine.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Mine are still, you know, super special. But like for
- 30:57Speaker 2: people who have access to seeing what everybody else is
- 31:01Speaker 2: doing and don't have that family must be very difficult.
- 31:04Speaker 1: You know. One of the things that I love is
- 31:06Speaker 1: that somebody's always bringing someone, so there's always someone who
- 31:09Speaker 1: hasn't been here before. And like this year, Zach is
- 31:12Speaker 1: bringing one of his friends from law school. But the
- 31:16Speaker 1: kids also either they have a boyfriend or a girlfriend
- 31:20Speaker 1: or whatever, and it's fun to have like that person
- 31:24Speaker 1: come back again and like join just somebody else, because
- 31:27Speaker 1: you know, you get like you're looking at it through
- 31:29Speaker 1: somebody else's eyes kind of. And my family is nuts
- 31:32Speaker 1: and completely over the top and loud, and I think
- 31:35Speaker 1: that it's fun and funny. Yeah to be around. Yeah,
- 31:39Speaker 1: you know, it's nice. Do you remember that story? I
- 31:41Speaker 1: think it was Thanksgiving?
- 31:42Speaker 2: Correct me if I'm wrong, but where the old lady
- 31:45Speaker 2: sent the Thanksgiving invite to the wrong number to this kid,
- 31:50Speaker 2: and the kid said, you sent it to the wrong number,
- 31:52Speaker 2: But I'd love to come. And it's been like a decade,
- 31:55Speaker 2: and who's been going to her house every year?
- 31:56Speaker 1: I have it. I think it was Thanksgiving. Yeah, it's
- 31:59Speaker 1: the most beautiful. I love it be Christmas, but I
- 32:01Speaker 1: think it is Thanksgiving. I always have Thanksgiving. I was
- 32:04Speaker 1: in both. My friend Lane and I both invite my
- 32:06Speaker 1: We had a friend who passed from ovarian cancer quite
- 32:09Speaker 1: a few years ago, and her husband also passed unexpectedly
- 32:13Speaker 1: when she was sick of a heart attack. So they
- 32:15Speaker 1: had two kids, Oh wow, who and then at that
- 32:19Speaker 1: point raised by their grandparents, who I'm very close to anyway,
- 32:22Speaker 1: So this was a dear friend of ours, and so
- 32:24Speaker 1: we always have them their grandparents and the boys always stop.
- 32:28Speaker 1: I always want them to say, but they always have
- 32:29Speaker 1: like reservations in the city. So but like every Thanksgiving,
- 32:32Speaker 1: I don't get to see them a lot, so we
- 32:34Speaker 1: get to see them and it's just like special. It's
- 32:36Speaker 1: just nice. It's like my whole family now knows them,
- 32:39Speaker 1: and it's just things like you know, like I guess
- 32:41Speaker 1: it's just like everything else goes away. I feel like,
- 32:44Speaker 1: oh my god, I'm so happy we are talking about this.
- 32:46Speaker 1: It makes me excited for it. I know, I do.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I love it. I really really.
- 32:50Speaker 2: It reminds me that I have to put in my order.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Oh god, looking, but it's late this year. It's the
- 32:54Speaker 2: very end of November.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Last year, I remember on Black Friday, I took Alexus
- 33:00Speaker 2: to get her ears pierced.
- 33:01Speaker 1: And because she really wanted a second hole, and.
- 33:05Speaker 2: I was like, I'll get some piercings too, So I
- 33:07Speaker 2: have You're so funny.
- 33:09Speaker 1: You have like this rocktership.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Oh I want my entire back covert and tattoos. By
- 33:13Speaker 2: the way, yes, I'm actively thinking about my guys.
- 33:19Speaker 1: So much.
- 33:19Speaker 2: So I've eight of them on my back and I
- 33:22Speaker 2: only let myself get one a year, otherwise I will like,
- 33:25Speaker 2: I'll Pete Davidson the hell and myself. But I although
- 33:27Speaker 2: he's getting his removed, my getting like that, and I
- 33:30Speaker 2: love they're so addictive. So I'm actively thinking about my
- 33:33Speaker 2: next one send ideas.
- 33:35Speaker 1: But so I was like, all right, I'll get I'll
- 33:38Speaker 1: get my ears pierced.
- 33:39Speaker 2: And I don't know if it's because I'm an old
- 33:42Speaker 2: fuddy duddy or what, but like I got so, I
- 33:44Speaker 2: got a third hole in one ear and a fourth
- 33:46Speaker 2: hole in the other, and both of them like just
- 33:49Speaker 2: did not work out. They were so painful, and now
- 33:53Speaker 2: they are both ciss to look. They're like big white.
- 34:00Speaker 1: I know I have to get them like taken out,
- 34:03Speaker 1: like I have to get them. I mean, like they
- 34:05Speaker 1: closed up like you never saying listen, dude, oh you're old.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I know this is such a this is like an aside,
- 34:12Speaker 1: but you and I have got to at some point
- 34:14Speaker 1: get to the bottom of the tattoo thing. No one
- 34:16Speaker 1: can explain it to me. I look at my sister
- 34:18Speaker 1: and my cousin, I'm like, why do you have one? Oh?
- 34:20Speaker 1: Not one? No, you do. I had my eyelids, my eyeliner.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Now you have that one. No, I took it off
- 34:26Speaker 1: a long time ago. I had them when I was separated.
- 34:28Speaker 1: You guys that I'm not sure. Okay, No, I didn't
- 34:30Speaker 1: mean to blow up your spot and you can. Doesn't matter.
- 34:32Speaker 1: But I had one, a really stupid one that when
- 34:34Speaker 1: Jeff and I were separated and I had this boyfriend
- 34:37Speaker 1: and we were wasted in Miami and I got this tattoo.
- 34:40Speaker 1: And it's it's really not a good story. I don't
- 34:43Speaker 1: even know that. I kind of I'd like to be
- 34:45Speaker 1: an open book. It was a really really stupid move.
- 34:48Speaker 1: I just let's just leave it there for now. Maybe
- 34:50Speaker 1: we'll cover that another time. But anyway, that's removed. But
- 34:53Speaker 1: I didn't get it. I almost got it. Whatever, I've
- 34:56Speaker 1: never been into tattoos, but I don't get what is
- 34:59Speaker 1: the well.
- 34:59Speaker 2: I didn't get my first one until I was thirty eight,
- 35:02Speaker 2: and then I've gotten one like almost.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Every year since. All right, sorry, so all right, so
- 35:07Speaker 1: we digress. So Black Friday.
- 35:09Speaker 2: I do love shopping on Black Friday, but I don't
- 35:13Speaker 2: love crowds.
- 35:14Speaker 1: I love crowds, I don't love it. Like when you're
- 35:16Speaker 1: hot and you brought your jacket and it's like it's on,
- 35:20Speaker 1: it's off, you're sick of it whatever. But at the beginning,
- 35:22Speaker 1: I love it because I love like being in the
- 35:24Speaker 1: source with the Christmas used to playing like and I
- 35:26Speaker 1: love a deal.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I do remember in college the Macy's near me
- 35:33Speaker 2: used to make the most festive, like everything was just
- 35:37Speaker 2: like red velvet and.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Smelled like pumpkin. Yes, oh god, I used to.
- 35:41Speaker 2: When I would get homesick in college, I would go
- 35:43Speaker 2: over to the Maces and just like stroll around and
- 35:45Speaker 2: like feel cozy.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Really yeah, I love that. I love the Maces in
- 35:49Speaker 1: New York City used to work right across the street
- 35:51Speaker 1: at holiday time. That was also very cool. I know,
- 35:54Speaker 1: I love the holidays in New York. You know, so yeah,
- 35:56Speaker 1: so Black Friday. I don't know what deals where you
- 36:00Speaker 1: ask Jeff Vessel right now, Like we are spending money recently,
- 36:03Speaker 1: like it's just going out of style. We just had
- 36:05Speaker 1: our boiler break. I don't know how much money we're
- 36:07Speaker 1: spending on on guys here. Yeah, that was a quick
- 36:09Speaker 1: fifteen thousand dollars and then traveling even Vegas. We went
- 36:13Speaker 1: to Vegas for my birthday. For everything is a fortune.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Everything is so expensive. My kids don't even understand money,
- 36:19Speaker 2: and they just want and want and like you want
- 36:22Speaker 2: to give them, but you.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Also listen Jack, I mean my kids there, Yeah, we
- 36:26Speaker 1: spoil them. But my son is definitely very money conscious
- 36:31Speaker 1: and like now that he's in school, but he's very
- 36:34Speaker 1: He made money, you worked for a couple of years.
- 36:36Speaker 1: My daughter not as much. But we're working on it. Yeah.
- 36:40Speaker 1: But I just I love shopping. I love and I
- 36:44Speaker 1: love getting a deal. So I love Black Friday. I
- 36:46Speaker 1: love getting into Cyber Monday. Or yes, okay, so Black Friday.
- 36:53Speaker 1: What else before we talk about something a little deeper
- 36:55Speaker 1: in terms of gratitude and thanksgiving to all the guys.
- 36:59Speaker 1: I know that sounds access, But to do people leave
- 37:02Speaker 1: to watch football? Yes? Yes, and they all go sit
- 37:04Speaker 1: on the couch.
- 37:05Speaker 2: That's a nice moment when like everybody is full and
- 37:08Speaker 2: everything was successful and everyone got along and then you
- 37:11Speaker 2: all go like just sit, you have.
- 37:13Speaker 1: A glass of wine and.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Watch football and talk. That's that's maybe one of my
- 37:17Speaker 2: favorite parts.
- 37:18Speaker 1: I don't watch football. I'm actually trying to recently like
- 37:22Speaker 1: understand it. My you know, my son and my husband
- 37:25Speaker 1: had been obsessed with football it's whatever. So I'm trying
- 37:28Speaker 1: because it's just always on in my house. But anyway, yeah,
- 37:31Speaker 1: I love that too. Well, they're Giants fans, right, yes,
- 37:33Speaker 1: are the Giants staying well? I don't know. My family
- 37:36Speaker 1: is Jet fans, okay, and the Jets never do well
- 37:39Speaker 1: and they are Now. Do you know that my son
- 37:40Speaker 1: is named after the Jets?
- 37:41Speaker 2: No?
- 37:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:42Speaker 2: So when we had our first set of twins, I
- 37:45Speaker 2: said to Evan, because my maiden name is A is
- 37:49Speaker 2: a first name, so I said, it's Mark, and I said,
- 37:54Speaker 2: I would like our firstborn son to be named after
- 37:58Speaker 2: my family name. His middle name to be Mark because
- 38:01Speaker 2: I love it. That's done. Like my brother didn't have kids,
- 38:07Speaker 2: and my only male cousin is not here. Oh he
- 38:10Speaker 2: wasn't Mark anyway, but yeah, so my last name is
- 38:13Speaker 2: pretty much done okay. And so he said, yeah, that's great,
- 38:17Speaker 2: that's fine. I want this baby be I want his
- 38:21Speaker 2: middle name to be after the Jets.
- 38:22Speaker 1: And I said, well, what are you thinking? He said, Jet?
- 38:25Speaker 1: So Aiden's name is Aiden Jet.
- 38:27Speaker 2: I said, though, I said, you can if you do this,
- 38:30Speaker 2: you can never say this is not my team anymore.
- 38:33Speaker 1: You can never give up on the seam.
- 38:35Speaker 2: So every year when he screams like I'm getting done
- 38:37Speaker 2: with this team. I hate this team. I said, no,
- 38:39Speaker 2: you can't. You named our child after them, said with
- 38:41Speaker 2: them forever?
- 38:42Speaker 1: Yeah no, I mean my were a Giants family, whatever
- 38:46Speaker 1: that means. But if you to know Jeff Wesler is
- 38:48Speaker 1: to know to never probably ever hear him scream or
- 38:51Speaker 1: escalate really except when he's watching football and he's so
- 38:57Speaker 1: I think to myself, this is like his outlet, Like
- 38:59Speaker 1: he's he has all this rage apparently from knows where
- 39:02Speaker 1: it comes from that and the only time that he
- 39:05Speaker 1: gets to like release it is around fort It's like
- 39:10Speaker 1: there's a different pert. So he's not even the same person.
- 39:12Speaker 1: He starts screaming, and it doesn't matter what time it is.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I could be sleeping as Kevin too. He doesn't anything
- 39:18Speaker 1: except sport. It's the weirdest thing. Yeah, Jack, you had
- 39:29Speaker 1: made a list of like just fun like conversations.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Yeah, like if you run out of things to talk
- 39:34Speaker 2: about at the Thanksgiving table, like conversation starters. Okay, So
- 39:38Speaker 2: if you could only eat one thing for the rest
- 39:40Speaker 2: of your.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Life, what would it be? That's always easy because like
- 39:43Speaker 1: I love the question of like if you're going to
- 39:45Speaker 1: the chair, to the electric chair. God forbid, Big Mac
- 39:49Speaker 1: extra pickles hot though, Like, haven't hit Mac extra pickle?
- 39:52Speaker 1: Oh my god, I haven't had it since in the cakes?
- 39:54Speaker 1: Oh my god?
- 39:55Speaker 2: Good?
- 39:56Speaker 1: Is it good? Well, I'm telling you it's the last
- 39:58Speaker 1: thing that I would eat with like French eyes, like
- 40:01Speaker 1: they have to come right off of the thing.
- 40:02Speaker 2: I think I would get myself like like a ton
- 40:06Speaker 2: of hot bread and butter.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Yeah, and just eat that. I can hear. I can
- 40:10Speaker 1: hear that. I mean pizza, pasta bread. But if it's
- 40:13Speaker 1: my if that's it, Big Mac, Oh my god hot.
- 40:16Speaker 1: All right, Well, if I ever decided to eat a
- 40:18Speaker 1: big Mac, I want to do it with you. Please
- 40:20Speaker 1: do please. Oh that's a good one. Oh my gosh.
- 40:23Speaker 1: What do you think was the best prank you ever pulled?
- 40:25Speaker 1: Can I tell you what?
- 40:25Speaker 2: One of my favorite moments, yes, ever, was when you
- 40:28Speaker 2: and I first started becoming friends.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Do you know what I'm going to say?
- 40:33Speaker 2: When you and I first started becoming friends. Okay, so
- 40:36Speaker 2: we were going to Ireland. Jenna and I really were getting.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Like to be close friends.
- 40:41Speaker 2: But anyway, I sort of started noticing that you really
- 40:44Speaker 2: was like funny and goofy and we had only known
- 40:48Speaker 2: each other for a few months.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Yeah, and I actually say that you did this on purpose?
- 40:51Speaker 1: Are you talking about the No? No, not not the luvas? Okay?
- 40:55Speaker 2: And we had to go shopping for Ireland, and I
- 40:58Speaker 2: remember I called her and I was like, where are you?
- 41:04Speaker 2: Like we were talking and she's like, I'm at nordstrum
- 41:06Speaker 2: Man and I was at Nordstrom too, and I was like, okay,
- 41:09Speaker 2: So I saw her in the department.
- 41:11Speaker 1: So I went into the same department.
- 41:14Speaker 2: She was by a rack and I crouched down next
- 41:17Speaker 2: to the rack and I like reached through and I
- 41:20Speaker 2: grabbed her.
- 41:21Speaker 1: She screamed. It was just the funniest I have not
- 41:25Speaker 1: thought about that since it happened. Isn't that the fun
- 41:27Speaker 1: So that was how I can't even believe that that
- 41:30Speaker 1: was a million years at that time. So everything was
- 41:33Speaker 1: really happy on the show. We had a group check
- 41:36Speaker 1: go and imagine this everyone. We had a group chat
- 41:39Speaker 1: with everyone and people weren't and not everybody was like
- 41:41Speaker 1: there was every everybody. Every memory saw off of it
- 41:45Speaker 1: because we wanted to get her things for because it
- 41:47Speaker 1: was like it was like a bachelorette things. Imagine that
- 41:51Speaker 1: what a difference two years make what happened? You're asking
- 41:55Speaker 1: the wrong girl.
- 41:55Speaker 2: And the fights just go too far. I wish that
- 41:58Speaker 2: they didn't, you think, like I wish every it could
- 42:00Speaker 2: just move forward.
- 42:01Speaker 1: But like, whatever that was, that is so bizarre to
- 42:03Speaker 1: me that we actually I remember being in Nordstroms. I
- 42:06Speaker 1: was like that for a long time. Everybody was like chat.
- 42:09Speaker 1: It was always fighting, but it was never it was
- 42:12Speaker 1: a like show ending. But okay, anyway, these are just
- 42:15Speaker 1: some like topics. You guys, you want to eat as
- 42:17Speaker 1: a kid with the best movie your TV show. You're
- 42:19Speaker 1: just saying you see it as a kid. Wait, there
- 42:21Speaker 1: was this thing called bagel dogs.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I don't know if they're still around, but we used
- 42:23Speaker 2: to get them delivered to the house by like I
- 42:26Speaker 2: don't know. They came in pacts of like thirty and
- 42:28Speaker 2: you stuck them in your freezer.
- 42:29Speaker 1: And they were a hot dog on a stick covered
- 42:33Speaker 1: in bagel bread. Corn dog. I used to I don't
- 42:37Speaker 1: know what it is a corn dog? Is that this
- 42:39Speaker 1: is because I grew up in Texas. I don't know
- 42:41Speaker 1: what a corn dog. Corn dog is like picture like
- 42:43Speaker 1: corn muffin or corn meal over the hot dogs. So
- 42:45Speaker 1: I guess instead of cornmeal. It was a big old
- 42:48Speaker 1: so I used to cut the top off.
- 42:51Speaker 2: This is when I was a kid, cut the top off,
- 42:53Speaker 2: and I used to stuff ketch up a ketchup mustard
- 42:57Speaker 2: and pickles inside and eat.
- 42:58Speaker 1: It like that and it was so freaking good. Right, Yeah?
- 43:02Speaker 1: Do you feel like there are certain things I had
- 43:03Speaker 1: as a kid, certain foods that I've been chasing ever
- 43:05Speaker 1: since and can't get the same, Like Swedish fish, Like,
- 43:09Speaker 1: why don't they? They used to be so Now I
- 43:12Speaker 1: just they're just another candy and I keep waiting for
- 43:15Speaker 1: them to bring me the match. Are you a candy
- 43:17Speaker 1: corn hater or a lover? I love it too, love her?
- 43:20Speaker 1: It's so good. Okay, hold on, all right, let's see. Uh,
- 43:25Speaker 1: what's your favorite song right now? On repeat? Well? Do
- 43:27Speaker 1: you play music here? Yeah? Yeah, I mean during Thanksgiving? No,
- 43:31Speaker 1: it's too loud, but definitely, like I like to have
- 43:34Speaker 1: music going, Yeah, I like to have happy music going,
- 43:37Speaker 1: especially now upbeat happy. What is my favorite song right now?
- 43:42Speaker 1: I'm trying to think, like the ones that actually stick
- 43:44Speaker 1: in my head. Yeah. So Sabrina Carpenter Espresso only because
- 43:50Speaker 1: of what happened on Saturday.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Night Live.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Did you say, watch it? So they did this skit
- 43:55Speaker 1: and it just got me like obsessed with the song.
- 43:57Speaker 1: But and if you had you don't know, you don't
- 44:00Speaker 1: because it was just like the funniest skit never. You
- 44:02Speaker 1: have to watch it for a while.
- 44:03Speaker 2: You have to watch it.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Yeah, Do you have a secret talent that no one
- 44:06Speaker 1: knows about? Hmm? I mean I think I did. I
- 44:11Speaker 1: posted some like weird things that I could do, but
- 44:13Speaker 1: the weird things in my mouth or like I can do,
- 44:16Speaker 1: I can actually touch. There's certain like only a certain
- 44:19Speaker 1: double jointed like a little bit maybe not maybe not
- 44:21Speaker 1: like I used to be, but there's like apparently you
- 44:24Speaker 1: can't not everybody can do this or I don't know
- 44:27Speaker 1: something I thinks like that. But do you I have
- 44:30Speaker 1: this one weird talent where there's a spot on your hand.
- 44:33Speaker 1: This freaks my kids out. There's a spot on your
- 44:37Speaker 1: hand that if you slam it down, it doesn't didn't.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Did I show you this? I don't know. Do you
- 44:41Speaker 1: want me to show you?
- 44:42Speaker 2: No? Yeah, let me show you. Okay, okay, you guys
- 44:45Speaker 2: can't see this, maybe you can see it. Let me
- 44:47Speaker 2: position the camera so it's this held up this spot
- 44:51Speaker 2: in the middle.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Of your hand. Do not try this out the middle
- 44:54Speaker 1: of your hand right there, wait under the num takeoff.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Yeah this red watch freaked out. Okay, watch hold on,
- 45:04Speaker 2: I care I don't feel anything. If you hit it
- 45:07Speaker 2: right there, you don't feel anything.
- 45:08Speaker 1: I wish you guys could see if you are for me.
- 45:13Speaker 1: It freaks everybody a bruise. No, no, no, I do
- 45:16Speaker 1: this all the time. You don't feel anything. You do
- 45:18Speaker 1: not feel a damn thing. Yeah, it's very strange. Whoa
- 45:23Speaker 1: I am a weirdo. Hold on, I almost want to
- 45:25Speaker 1: try it like here. Yeah, we are really digressive. Rate
- 45:27Speaker 1: your hand out like that. Yeah, yeah, and then you
- 45:31Speaker 1: bang it. You're not going to feel anything.
- 45:33Speaker 2: I can't. Yeah, I'll do that one day for everybody.
- 45:37Speaker 2: How we're going to transition from that? It's such a
- 45:39Speaker 2: fun thank What am I thankful? Because this is doing that?
- 45:44Speaker 2: I want to say, I'm going to so do that
- 45:46Speaker 2: on Thanksgiving?
- 45:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it is you, the entire family. I will Oh
- 45:52Speaker 1: my gosh, what am I thankful for?
- 45:54Speaker 2: Well, I'm always above and beyond thankful for the fact
- 45:57Speaker 2: that I have four healthy children.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Or because you know they say that.
- 46:04Speaker 2: You can have a million problems until you have a
- 46:06Speaker 2: health problem, then you have one problem, you know. So
- 46:09Speaker 2: I'm very grateful that i have four healthy children and
- 46:12Speaker 2: that I'm still celebrating with all four grandparents. That to
- 46:15Speaker 2: me is above and beyond the number one thing, the
- 46:19Speaker 2: fact that you know, with with so much you know,
- 46:22Speaker 2: upheaval in the world, that I'm in like a peaceful,
- 46:26Speaker 2: calm home with a loving husband, and you know, all
- 46:30Speaker 2: the food we could eat, that we have, the luxury
- 46:31Speaker 2: of getting full, the really simple things is what I'm
- 46:35Speaker 2: grateful for.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I always my grandmother used to always tell me to
- 46:39Speaker 1: count my blessings. That was like her expression, and I do,
- 46:42Speaker 1: and I try to every day practice like gratitude, but
- 46:47Speaker 1: like trying to think because I have those same I'm
- 46:49Speaker 1: grateful for the same things that you just mentioned, and
- 46:51Speaker 1: then try to think of like the little things, and
- 46:53Speaker 1: I think about, like what an adventure this year has been,
- 46:56Speaker 1: and good and bad. But you know, being on this
- 47:01Speaker 1: show Housewives of New Jersey brought me to this podcast,
- 47:06Speaker 1: these adventures, the adventure that is the show. But also
- 47:10Speaker 1: like you know, and I always reference my age, but
- 47:13Speaker 1: you've been doing this a long time, long much longer
- 47:16Speaker 1: than I have. But it's still to me, like sometimes
- 47:20Speaker 1: it's a very strange thing to experience, you know, this
- 47:25Speaker 1: world of I don't know TV and people and meeting
- 47:30Speaker 1: people and having these like new people in my life
- 47:33Speaker 1: that you know, I wouldn't have known and getting to
- 47:37Speaker 1: do this stuff. It's like, I am grateful, and it
- 47:39Speaker 1: is a mixed bag. We both know that it is
- 47:41Speaker 1: good and it is bad. And there's the fighting part
- 47:44Speaker 1: is bad. The fighting part is bad. There's a lot
- 47:47Speaker 1: of at least for me, there's anxiety around a lot
- 47:49Speaker 1: of it. Yeah, there's stuff, but it's also I'm grateful
- 47:52Speaker 1: that I had a chance this late in life to
- 47:54Speaker 1: have fun, to do this, to have that and Jurie
- 47:56Speaker 1: it doesn't and no matter what.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Happens with the show, keep reminding yourself, that's that's not
- 48:00Speaker 2: the end.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not the end. That's your launching pad for
- 48:04Speaker 1: doing other things. You know, I'm grateful, but I'm grateful
- 48:08Speaker 1: for that. I'm grateful for Jeff Fessler. I'm always grateful
- 48:10Speaker 1: for him. But like, as we're getting older and like
- 48:13Speaker 1: I just think of what we've done in the past year,
- 48:14Speaker 1: and like I just I'm just grateful to be in
- 48:17Speaker 1: a peaceful marriage. I think it's so hard. I mean,
- 48:20Speaker 1: we celebrated twenty five years this April. This past April.
- 48:24Speaker 1: People are dropping like flies around, like a lot of marriages.
- 48:28Speaker 1: I like every week I feel like a year of
- 48:30Speaker 1: another because you do friend or especially like the House
- 48:34Speaker 1: right and the Housewife Girl, House Girl. It's like contagious.
- 48:37Speaker 1: But I don't know, I'm grateful to have that kind
- 48:40Speaker 1: of a peaceful life like that with him, you know,
- 48:43Speaker 1: if we're getting specific. Yeah, same, Really grateful for this podcast.
- 48:48Speaker 1: I love doing. Yeah, I've been watching Nobody Wants This?
- 48:51Speaker 1: Did you watch that? Maybe we're Sarah Foster and weis
- 48:55Speaker 1: shooting the Hot Rabbit. Yeah, yeah, I watched it and
- 48:57Speaker 1: they have their podcast, and I was like, yeah, it's
- 48:59Speaker 1: a sister. Yes, I love that. It is fun. Yeah,
- 49:04Speaker 1: I hope it's fun for you guys to listen. Yeah,
- 49:06Speaker 1: me too. And if it is Leaveles Server, yes, yes please. Anyway,
- 49:11Speaker 1: I love this episode, really fun.
- 49:13Speaker 2: I hope that everybody has a really really nice Thanksgiving
- 49:17Speaker 2: and you stop for a second and think about what
- 49:19Speaker 2: you are grateful for.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Me too, And hopefully it's weird that we're doing this
- 49:23Speaker 1: on election day because this world and this country is
- 49:27Speaker 1: in quite a bit of upheaval, so days just like
- 49:30Speaker 1: stop and breathe.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I just I really hope that everything is peaceful too,
- 49:36Speaker 2: no matter who wins, that there's no.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Craziness and come home. Oh yeah so that also, but yeah,
- 49:45Speaker 1: yeah again for another episode. Okay you guys, happy, happy, happy,
- 49:49Speaker 1: healthy Thanksgiving, Happy Thanksgiving. See you soon.
