- 0:20It is time to leave your worries outside and join me. Dan ol Mackley,
- 0:26Trade Trendholm Raj Sharma inside the Treehouse today for day one of Treehouse Gone
- 0:34Wild. It is spring break in the Treehouse and to celebrate, instead of
- 0:38taking the week off, We're gonna work more, damn it. So five
- 0:41days a week, extra shows all week, and to kick off Treehouse Gone
- 0:46Wild, a special guest who has got to be one of the wildest men
- 0:53I have ever known. Consumer reporter extraordinaiy from katiefw Fox four, the one
- 1:00and only Steve Novillo. Yeah, yeah, how are you doing great?
- 1:04How you been Steve? It's been a minute. I'm good. I'm good
- 1:07a little. You know, I'm working kind of crazy schedule right now.
- 1:11Shannon Murray just had a baby, so I'm sitting in her chair for I
- 1:15guess the next twelve weeks. Oh so she's taking the full of maternity leave.
- 1:21Oh for sure, for sure. We actually, I would say Fox
- 1:23has a very generous maternity and paternity leave program and she absolutely should take the
- 1:30time. So yeah, I started sitting in last Thursday, so this was
- 1:36my first full week. So, oh good, I got to hang out.
- 1:38Hannah we catch up. So it's nice, which is a lot of
- 1:42men's dreams, not yours, but a lot of men's dreams. Fuddy like,
- 1:45well, both pictures and you know a lot of men will chime and
- 1:49and be like, you're so lucky, dude. Yeah, but what time
- 1:53did you wake up to be sitting next to Hannah bit exactly two am?
- 1:57Two am? So wow, you're filling in for Shannon Murray on the pre
- 2:05Good Day Show. Yeah. So I'm on the four to six, the
- 2:07four to six. Yeah, and you're having to do that for the entire
- 2:10twelve weeks or are they gonna rotate some others? Well, I'm off for
- 2:14spring break and then I think they're going to rotate in maybe some other you
- 2:21know, folks, I've got you know, I mean, I've got my
- 2:23regular job. And then we kind of talked a couple of months ago.
- 2:25We were testing a new show which we're about to announce. His Guy has
- 2:31gotten picked up and is going to start as a spring and summer series twice
- 2:36a week, and then we're gonna go to five nights a week in the
- 2:38fall. So I'm working on that. That's outstanding. So I want to
- 2:43get to the new show here in just a second. But for the moment,
- 2:46I'm very curious, and I know Trey is as well, because he
- 2:49and I did morning radio for a little over a year and it's never left
- 2:53our bones. Our bones still hurt and make noises from that schedule and you're
- 2:59now having to live it for a while. Who'd you piss off? It
- 3:05is a great honor people who don't know, well, you read, he's
- 3:19a bro. He's got to memorize. They sent the email, here's what
- 3:23you say, and he immediately you tried to make sure there actually is a
- 3:27rotation list. I think you may have reminded him. He's like, oh,
- 3:32man, I should probably check on that. It's really not Honestly,
- 3:36it's not that bad. And again, Hannah and I have have a lot
- 3:38of fun because we do sit there kind of catching up a lot, to
- 3:43the point where Evan yelled at us on the air the other day because we
- 3:45were making too much noise during this weather report. Little Andrews got mad at
- 3:49you. He did, he did, and he called us out. I
- 3:51was telling her a story about something and there was something that was really funny,
- 3:54and she did laugh louder than it was appropriate. And in the middle
- 4:00of his weather segment, he stopped and scolded on something. Oh my god,
- 4:05you know what it is. He's jealous. He's jealous probably because he's
- 4:09never made Hannah laugh that hard, and he was mad at you. I
- 4:12mean you said it. I didn't, Steve. I'm happy to be your
- 4:15mouthpiece. I'll say all the things that that you want to sell. I
- 4:18got nothing to lose. And he got quite real fast. I was going
- 4:25to make a joke about you offering to be my mouthpiece since this is we
- 4:30were all thinking it. I mean, seen your peak of fitness. So
- 4:36how how hard do you spring break? Steve? Well, you know we're
- 4:42we're about to find out. So what is it, Trey? Now?
- 4:48As I say, is your ship circling through the US Virgin Islands? So
- 4:55uh no, So otherwise Dana would come over and uh for dinner. Eh.
- 5:00Where we're going out Galveston. It's a like a a Cosamel Costa Maya,
- 5:08Honduras kind of situation. I think there's a couple of days at sea
- 5:11in there. We're eating up the whole week. So I've actually never been
- 5:15on a cruise during spring. So we took the kids on the first cruise
- 5:17last year, they had a really good time. We just did five days.
- 5:21This time we're doing eight days. But I've never been on a ship
- 5:26during spring break, and I'm you know, I was thinking, oh my
- 5:30gosh, there's gonna be a lot of kids. And then I was reading
- 5:32some people on these chat groups. I guess last couple of weeks ago was
- 5:36like the New England schools had their spring break and all of the ships out
- 5:40of Galveston were like flooded with drunk college kids. And I was like,
- 5:43Oh, that didn't even cross my mind that that might happen. So I'm
- 5:46not sure what's going on there. We'll see. I do find it interesting
- 5:49that you managed to take one of the longer cruises available through the Caribbean that
- 5:56managed to get nowhere near where I live. I think there's, like I
- 6:00said, there's like I mean, I think that there may be like back
- 6:03to back sea days honestly to get to where we need to go. Uh
- 6:09So, you know, And we also, like during the during the vacation,
- 6:14we were talking about booking you know, excursions and stuff, and my
- 6:15husband was like, Oh, they look at this. We can go see
- 6:17the Mayan ruins and it's like eight hour tour of the Mayan Ruins. I
- 6:21was like, are you out of your damn mind, Like, we are
- 6:24not bringing a five year old and a seven year old on an eight hour
- 6:27tour of anything, Like I'm thinking like ninety minute glass bottom boat and we're
- 6:32back that kind of thing the last time. You know when when we took
- 6:35them last June, I think it was it was actually we took them on
- 6:40a submarine and it was the day of that submarine tragedy, and we had
- 6:45no idea because we were unplugged, and we posted pictures to like our family
- 6:49like portal and my mom was like, you took the kids on a submarine?
- 6:54Do you have no idea? What's going on in the world? Work
- 6:56in the news? Well, here's the thing. You're smart, you're consumer
- 7:00reporter and have been for many, many years. So I'm certain that you
- 7:03did your research and did not go with the submersible. That was sort of
- 7:06questionable on this on the our our submarine was was not attached with a joystick
- 7:12and an extension cord. This was you know, that's probably and probably not
- 7:16trying to go you know, a couple of miles deep. Yeah, we
- 7:19weren't we weren't going down that far. Yeah, and it was. I'm
- 7:23sure it was like I had an actual pilot and not an Xbox controller exactly.
- 7:30So, yeah, you mentioned drunken spring breakers on cruise ships and everything,
- 7:35and I've I've been seeing over the last week how uh cities are either
- 7:42preparing for the onslaught of spring breakers or in some cases, like Miami is
- 7:48one of them. Yeah, they're actively doing things trying to find legal ways
- 7:54to repel the spring breakers, like like charging out the ass for parking and
- 8:00uber surge pricing hotels and things Jackie rates up so much that these kids can't
- 8:05afford it on daddy's credit card type of stuff. And it leads me to
- 8:09the question, is spring Break as we all knew it is? You know,
- 8:13younger folk over you know, I it's interesting and it's interesting that you
- 8:18bring up Miami because Miami Beach specifically, and you know South Beach and you
- 8:22know, I mean that's kind of the birthplace of you know, spring Break,
- 8:26And when you look at there's a real kind of struggle there because while
- 8:31the people who run the cities are like, yeah, we got to throttle
- 8:35back here, the people who depend on that income from the influx of spring
- 8:39breakers. Are not very thrilled with the idea of you know, and I
- 8:45forget if this was all Miami or not, but like, no more open
- 8:48containers, curfews, no parking, no you know, no public you know
- 8:52whatever. Nation, it's just no fun anymore. What's the world coming to?
- 8:58So yeah, I I don't know. But then again, if you've
- 9:01got you know, ten thousand kids that show up, I mean, how
- 9:05are you possibly going to police that? I thought a lot of that.
- 9:09I think a lot of the big spring break had in recent years, especially
- 9:11like you remember seeing videos over the last couple of years, and some of
- 9:15them from Miami. You've got shootings and things, You've got childs going wild
- 9:18tray, What were you going to say? I thought a lot of Like
- 9:22I mean, when we were in college whatever, you know, it was,
- 9:28Daytona was still a big spring break. Yeah, Yeah, Panama City
- 9:31Beach, Yeah, Panama City Desk and uh you know those plays. And
- 9:35I feel like all those have kind of even Padre Island, all those have
- 9:37kind of mellowed out over the years. Like you don't see the big oh
- 9:43at least I don't see the big influx of kids like you used to.
- 9:45And maybe that's just because it's more global and everyone kind of spreads out.
- 9:48Yeah, I you know, it's funny. Our nieces definitely had more of
- 9:52a spring break experience. I didn't really have that, certainly, not as
- 9:56a young kid. And then even in college, like I think my buddies
- 10:00and I like hopped in the car and drove to Boston like one year,
- 10:03like we you know, I don't think that's more of like a southern thing
- 10:05that you would go to you know, Padre or to you know, Destin
- 10:11or Daytona or whatnot. So I, you know, like our niece,
- 10:15I think that they did, like you know, tend to a room in
- 10:18you know, wherever, you know, just to try and save on on
- 10:22expenses. But oh yeah, yeah, that that was That was the spring
- 10:24break era of stackingham deep and hornh them cheap, which I believe is your
- 10:31tagline for your mouthpiece service. That's Steve. No, you don't get on
- 10:39TV. Yeah, you get in the tree. That's all right, that's
- 10:45fun yellow right there. I went to Padre when I was in college.
- 10:50I want to Padre twice they tell me, didn't doesn't doesn't San Marcus actually
- 10:54physically moved to Padre during the spring break. Yes, it does. I
- 10:58remember. I remember the first year very vividly. It's fun. The second
- 11:01year. There are pictures, I think somewhere you better hope not. No,
- 11:07I've seen them. I was having a great time someone holding onto those
- 11:13in like a black mail folder. I'm sure in case I ever mistakenly drunkenly
- 11:20run for office. Uh yeah, I think I think it's well established.
- 11:24Now your your history or even your recent history doesn't matter anymore about getting elected.
- 11:28Yes, yeah, I mean these. I mean right, like,
- 11:31when this next generation of people grow up and run for political office, I
- 11:35think it's gonna be like what, you don't have any you know, scandalous
- 11:39photos, but you know, yeah, I mean that there has to be
- 11:43like, there's gonna be like a there has to be the dick pick reveals
- 11:48for this generation when they when they start running for office, Like, can
- 11:50you just go ahead and show us so we can get it out of the
- 11:52way. Yeah, that actually makes sense. It's a lot quicker than than
- 11:56tracking down the college girlfriends or boyfriends and asking them about it and getting it
- 12:00secondhand. In this way, they this actually your right Stephen this way,
- 12:05only fans would be expected an expected part of your election fundraising. Yeah,
- 12:11that's what I come on. Yeah, well, because I think that that
- 12:18that you know, to got off in the tandem with this younger generation that
- 12:22people live in this world of like everything's temporary, nothing's forever, and you
- 12:26know, whereas a little bit older, the people that kind of grew up
- 12:28with the Internet as opposed to always just kind of being there still, you
- 12:33know, follow the you know, the rules of conduct, never you know,
- 12:37never your face and you're junk in the same photo. I mean,
- 12:39let's it's it's easy, easy math here one o one dumb stuff. Yeah.
- 12:43See, so like for me like Raj, I know, going to
- 12:48Texas State or I'm sorry, Southwest Texas State. That's when he went there.
- 12:52So he's beholden to the to the old name Trey at Ut. I
- 12:54know you guys had fun in during spring break. I did not. I
- 12:58I worked on the spring break working at a radio station. All the other
- 13:03kids on the promotions team would go do a spring break like skiing or the
- 13:07beach or whatever, and I worked sixty hours a week because I was like,
- 13:11hey, I'm gonna make rent and then some this month because I'm the
- 13:13only one left in town to work. You were, you were a dedicated
- 13:16mouthpiece. That's right, That is right, And I feel the need to
- 13:22update my resume and my LinkedIn to put dedicated mouthpiece for Steve Noviella, whoa
- 13:31like you know, we hadn't even finished the interviews. We are, what
- 13:35ten minutes in. But I'm curious though, Like you said, you went
- 13:43to Boston with some friends, and you think maybe the crazy spring break stuff
- 13:48was more of a south of the Mason Dixon thing, So you never ran
- 13:50off to the Jersey Shore during spring break or anything. No, you know
- 13:54what I didn't. I will say, like I do remember, Like I
- 14:01mean, when I was really young, spring break was like me and you
- 14:03know, Bob Barker and card Sharks and the Prices Light hanging out of the
- 14:07couch for a week while you know, my parents were at work. And
- 14:11then you know, as I was older, I remember like watching like MTV
- 14:15would do, like you know, three or three weeks of like coverage from
- 14:18spring break, and I was a little too young for it. And then
- 14:22suddenly I was a little too old for it. I don't really remember much
- 14:24of what happened in those middle years. I'm really glad you brought that up,
- 14:28because that is something that I feel like affected spring Break once MTV really
- 14:35stopped doing music altogether and they didn't have the spring Break specials for two or
- 14:41three weeks, like you said, because that was what got me through spring
- 14:43Break. Is like you'd wake up watch Prices, right, and then I'd
- 14:48flip on MTV and watch spring Break because I couldn't go, so I'd watch
- 14:52spring Break sort of live y Carrie's lingud Man. It looks like a lot
- 14:56of fun, and that's a where do they find all the water for these,
- 15:00you know contests? But once it's almost seemed like maybe it's coincided to
- 15:07where once MTV stopped doing it, then it changed or something. Yeah.
- 15:13Well, and when you look back at all of it, I mean they
- 15:15used to like, I mean, they would canty. It was like the
- 15:16days of like I mean, I think Carson Daly was down there, you
- 15:20know, back back then, and Daisy Fuentes and Tabath Sorn and you know
- 15:24that whole. I mean, even they would drag out Kurt Loder, who
- 15:26you know, probably was twenty nine at the time, but seemed to be
- 15:30one hundred, you know, but uh, you know, and and but
- 15:35it was. It was interesting because it was like watching a TV show of
- 15:39what you thought spring break was, and apparently it, you know, apparently
- 15:41was kind of kind of it was kind of reality TV before before that became
- 15:46the name of it. But what also like for our generation, because I
- 15:50mean there was it seems like there's so many eighties movies that had a spring
- 15:52break theme. I mean it was like, I think we grew up like,
- 15:56oh my god, that's supposed to be the most epic time of your
- 15:58life is spring break. And then honestly it's like, yeah, yeah,
- 16:03that's fun, but it's also just kind of a drunken shit show. Yeah,
- 16:07I'm the first Yeah, the first time I went down to pot I
- 16:11mean, it was it was that thing. It was the it was the
- 16:14everything you saw in the movies like the Wild. Like I was, you
- 16:17know, from a you know, immigrant Hindu household, you know, off
- 16:22to college and I'm at spring break and I was like, I can't believe
- 16:23you guys are doing this for plastic beads, Like this is me, this
- 16:27is fantastic. Like you you have a you set the bar solo. Well,
- 16:33done manuh, And it was that the second year we went like that.
- 16:37We just I just kind of hung out and just drank. But because
- 16:41that whole that whole thing had worn off for me, I was like,
- 16:42Okay, now I've already seen it and it was just a repeat of what
- 16:47I saw the year before. And I was like, Okay, so this
- 16:48is just kind of every year. But I think I think Steve hit a
- 16:52very big point about there is a very tiny window as far as when you
- 16:57look at life as a whole where break really is. You're in your wheelhouse.
- 17:02Otherwise you are too young old and it happens really quick. That's true
- 17:06because the third year, when everybody else was going, I went up.
- 17:08I came up to Dallas and worked that week with my with my folks at
- 17:11their at their business. So I did that the last two years. So
- 17:15first two years went to spring read the last two years work. And I
- 17:18love how you you mentioned Steve with the MTV stuff and they rolling out all
- 17:22the VJs. You know, it's like for me watching it on TV for
- 17:26those couple of years and then like Raj and Trey, you're saying you do
- 17:29it a couple of times, like you watch a couple of MTV spring Breaks
- 17:32for a couple of years, like, Okay, now I get it.
- 17:33I've seen Daisy Fintis in in the bikini. I've seen Carson Daily really committed
- 17:40to still wearing dark colored clothing but now he's wearing shorts. Every every they
- 17:45needed more of a presentation though, whenever they would wheel out Kurt Loder because
- 17:48you know, that's the only time every year he actually saw the sun.
- 17:53But yeah, after Ricky Rackman the roll out too, you see a lot
- 18:00of sun either oh my god, uh or the you o MTV raps guys
- 18:04out on on the beach and stuff that. I mean that maybe it's like
- 18:08most things nowadays, everything's wrapped in nostalgia to make you feel good. But
- 18:14I don't necessarily want to see MTV spring Break rebooted for our generation now,
- 18:19because otherwise it's just going to be like Simon Rex interviewing Steve and his husband
- 18:23and their two kids on the cruise ship somewhere outside of on Duras, going
- 18:27like the buffet was a little lackluster. Well, you know, I mean,
- 18:33but but but if you look at that, there's really I think the
- 18:36need for that is gone, right, because at the time that was your
- 18:40only access to this inside look. And now you get on Instagram and everybody
- 18:45is, you know, posting about their experience, and you could, you
- 18:48know, you could check out you know what all different people are doing.
- 18:51Uh, you know, there's the idea. I mean because for a while
- 18:53there they had like like when the Real World started, and then then they
- 18:56would have Eric Nye and the cast of the Real World for the you know,
- 19:00for the week I'm you know, and now it's like, okay,
- 19:04well everybody just we you can access that content. You don't need to you
- 19:10don't need a TV show. What is on MTV? Now? What is
- 19:14this is? I'm gonna sound old right now. What is There's a lot
- 19:17of programming right like teen Mom and like my I think I watched like I
- 19:22think like My Super Sweet sixteen was on, but that's got to be ten
- 19:25years ago. Yeah, it's a lot of a lot of movies. Oh
- 19:29interesting, okay, because I know there's now MTV two is all music Now
- 19:33I thought there was a separate MTV like all me, Like, I I
- 19:38know both MTV and vah ones said they were launching stations that actually played music
- 19:44again. But yeah, I assumed that was MTV the ocho playing do people
- 19:48make music videos anymore? They do it. It's for it's for YouTube,
- 19:52okay, it's for the like artists YouTube channels, so you can go on.
- 19:57But they do. They do still make music videos for four snippets for
- 20:03social media and then for YouTube. Yeah, like I remember as a kid,
- 20:06like when the Michael Jackson Thriller, Oh yeah, I mean that was
- 20:08like every you could watch it every twelve minutes or whatever the you know,
- 20:14and then I had the making of you know, as long as it was
- 20:17in ten to the hour every hour and Kurt was giving you the news,
- 20:18you could you could tune in check out. Yeah, you could also try
- 20:23to uh you could also try to look into the crowd behind Michael Jackson in
- 20:29the Thriller video, all the dancers and see if you could pick out which
- 20:30of those zombies was Kurt Loader. Like Kurt Loader could dance. But like
- 20:41back then, it was, you know, product placement was the big thing.
- 20:42So PEPSI signed Madonna and PEPSI signed you know, Michael Jackson, so
- 20:47it was like, you know, PEPSI presents the new Madonna video and it
- 20:49was I think it was I can't remember the name of the song, but
- 20:53the one in the church and it was the Black Jesus and that was the
- 20:56big controversy. And then didn't Michael kind of ruin that too when his hair
- 21:02cut on fire brought to you by PEPSI didn't know. I feel like that
- 21:07made it even like you know more. I mean, that was like such
- 21:11a moment for you know, for him, he was Taylor Swift of his
- 21:14time. I mean, I'm tellious one last very important question for you,
- 21:22Steve, before we let you out of here for your spring break. When
- 21:26you take a week off when you're on vacation, do you still wear a
- 21:30tie? Is it something you feel like you have to do every day or
- 21:33you like But I'm not wearing a tie until I go back to the TV
- 21:34station. Tie but no shirt and no pants. No pants coming up in
- 21:45my Only Dan's video, Steve's going to show me how to tie a tie.
- 21:51I am genuinely curious about that, Steve, because I commented on a
- 21:55photo that you did the other day on Instagram. Because I don't know it's
- 22:00TV guys, I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the practice,
- 22:03but your your tie knots are always perfect. You got the dimple right in
- 22:07the middle, plus you got the little dimple and the tie. I mean
- 22:10it really is, it really is. Well, when you tie a tie,
- 22:14do you intentionally or do you just like hope for the best and what
- 22:17happens happens? Do you go full windsor or half windsor I go It depends
- 22:23on the shirt collar, So like, whichever the bigger one is, I'll
- 22:26go for that. If the shirt collar is wider, half wins. Okay,
- 22:30So that doesn't even make any sense. I mean it does occasionally I
- 22:33do it really well and I'm like, oh, yeah, now I just
- 22:34need to maintain this shape. Maybe I throw it in the freezer so it
- 22:38doesn't even move again. But any any hack, any trick, any tip
- 22:42is fine. Now, No, it's got to be intentional. Actually,
- 22:45and this is not I actually have it happened to have a tie right here.
- 22:48But when you tie it and you kind of go through for the final
- 22:52you know loop, you have to with your finger press in and then pinch
- 22:59so that your intention see that even look at my speach, that you're intentionally
- 23:03creating a dimple that then gets you know, locked in when you pull down
- 23:07because the tie becomes ti. Okay, so are you using your index finger
- 23:11for finger to dimple and then middle and thumb to pinch? So how do
- 23:17you tie the tie? Yeah? Exactly, I am so shaped. I
- 23:21remember from high school. I can hear Evan Andrews yelling at me from the
- 23:26weather version of the studio. Now, well, thank you for the tip.
- 23:30I actually really do appreciate that. I didn't know that. Man.
- 23:32I don't know if Trey's upset because when he did high end real estate,
- 23:34he wore suits all the time. But yours, your ties and your dimples
- 23:38are the ones I remember the most. Thank you. Thank you. And
- 23:45Baron James, who used to work for us UH forever ago. He was
- 23:48Clarice's co anchor when I first cat. He loved a really bit, like
- 23:53an obscenely big knot. And the way that he did that was he would
- 23:59tie his ties, but they would be just long enough to eclipse the jacket
- 24:06and then that's why they were so thick. So he had these really giant
- 24:10knots. But then if he took his coat off, his tie was like
- 24:11three inches long. See I've wondered that because I thought about how does that
- 24:15work? Because you either have to buy extremely long ties. And I've had
- 24:22this thought when Michael Irvin was on ESPN a lot and the big knot was
- 24:26in fashion and it really looked like two fists in front of his throat,
- 24:33and I had that. I wondered, is the rest of the tie somewhere
- 24:37like in his chest? It's just long enough can tuck into the coat,
- 24:41so that opt that must be it. Otherwise you're buying ties from you know,
- 24:45Shaquille O'Neil's tailor. Yeah, So for the tie, the fingers,
- 24:52the dumple, the thumb, the middle finger, pinch, pull, push,
- 24:56got it? Okay? Yep. As a man of the claw,
- 25:00I perform weddings here as my side hustle, and I like to make sure
- 25:06that my tie looks good because I'm going to be in these people's photos.
- 25:08I'm going to make sure that my dimple's not you know, that is ahead?
- 25:12I'm sorry? Is that a side hustle? Or for you? Is
- 25:15that indentured servitude? What do you mean indentured servitude? Aren't you technically working
- 25:22for your wife? No one, no one likes to talk to you,
- 25:26Trey. Are you not which that ministry? Did you get ordained with Yes,
- 25:33Universal Life Church all the way back. I believe in like two thousand
- 25:37and four or something. So I've I've been I've been around a long time.
- 25:41So if if you and Doug ever want to renew your vows, I
- 25:45got you. Well, I I too, am a fellow Universal Life minister.
- 25:49Look at that. Although I don't know, can you do yourself?
- 25:52I don't know. Three three clergymen here, look at this? Do you
- 25:56want to be ordained by three men? I mean, we can bless you
- 25:59right now out about will make you a saint. Steve, have a wonderful
- 26:10spring break. I intend to no phone for a week. That's gonna be
- 26:12the best part. Oh yeah, that's awesome. Well that's that's that's gonna
- 26:17be sad for Evan Andrews because he won't get those special photos from you.
- 26:22I'll tell you what, give me his number, I'll send him. So
- 26:25I have a great trip with the family, and thank you always for jumping
- 26:30on with us. We appreciate it. Yes, let me know when you're
- 26:32back in town. I want to have you on our on our show.
- 26:34Yes, that's right. I'm sorry. I totally forgot to mention that the

- 26:42the test run go? What do you think I'm Mike Doocey with Free for
- 26:47All? Come on, man's I have a poor memory, Steve. It's
- 26:51well established. So the show actually was called for Real when we tested.
- 26:56It is being rebranded. It's gonna be called Last Call with Steve Nobiello.
- 27:00Well wow, oh, sqeeze, squeeze the name into the title. You
- 27:04have to do? You do? You tell everyone to get the fuck out

- 29:11to three Cook DFW. That number will get you Daniel Cook from COOKDFW Roofing
- 29:15and Restoration. You know, Daniel. In the roofing industry, it seems
- 29:18like there are tons and tons of companies that offer the free roof inspection like
- 29:22you do, which is a great service that you offer. However, not
- 29:26all of those other companies offer a lifetime warranty on their work, which is
- 29:32actually something you do at COOKDFW Roofing and Restoration. Yeah. Dan, that
- 29:37is an important item that really separates us from a lot of our competition.
- 29:41And it's just merely because we stand behind our product. We're a local,
- 29:45family owned company. We're not what is this what's the old saying two chucks
- 29:51in a truck. I mean, we have a lot of professional individuals that
- 29:53are trained, go through a lot of CEO continuing education to improve their training.
- 30:00We have to get certified in different aspects every year, and we really
- 30:03do want to make make sure that we're doing the best for our clients,
- 30:07and that means a lifetime warranty. And so when you trust us with your
- 30:11home We're going to reciprocate and give you the most best quality product that we
- 30:18can physically do, making sure we know exactly what your home needs and your
- 30:22roof and because we do care about your family, we care about your investment,
- 30:26and we want to make sure that you have somebody in your corner when
- 30:29you need it. And that's one of the things that I love about you
- 30:32and your wife, Carrie with COOKDFW Roofing and Restoration is that you don't treat
- 30:37this as a job. You don't treat this as a scam like many other
- 30:41people do in the roofing industry. You treat it as a mission. And
- 30:47we appreciate that in the Treehouse, and that's why you need to give him
- 30:49a call right now for your free roof inspection eight three to three. Cook

- 31:48chance to ask Steve that I wish I had, but I know he was
- 31:53antsy to leave us and go get on a cruise ship with his family,
- 31:59not another cruising and that was We have to clarify something that we discussed in
- 32:07a previous episode last week, and it had to do with Raj being right,
- 32:13specifically, I'm your huckleberry, the line famous in the movie Tombstone.
- 32:21Trey and I were under the impression that Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday had said
- 32:25to Johnny Ringo before he killed him, I'm your huckleberry, to which Roz
- 32:30told us no, no, no, no, no, that's not correct.
- 32:32In fact, he is saying what Raj, I'm your huckle bearer,
- 32:37which was it was the handles on the sides of coffins back in the eighteen
- 32:42hundreds were called huckles. So he was basically saying, I'll be your pall
- 32:45bearer. And that's what they called those men then, because I guess Paul
- 32:52Bearer had not been created or invented yet, it was huckle bearer because of
- 32:54the huckles on the caskets. Yes, okay, so this is the dangerous
- 33:00territory that we find ourselves in. We start trying to educate ourselves inside the
- 33:06stupid treehouse. Because then other experts have come forward, dear dear listeners of
- 33:15the treehouse to say, not so fast, my friend, as if there
- 33:20are a bunch of lead corsos running around with uh uh, doc Holiday,
- 33:22you know, heads on to say Val Kilmer was right, Tombstone was right.
- 33:30He does say I'm your huckle berry because number one, my finger here.
- 33:38Number one, it was in the script. Val Kilmer has stated he
- 33:43read it from the script. It was in the script I'm your huckleberry.
- 33:47Then I will. Then I went further down the rabbit hole that that that
- 33:52our dear dear listeners sent me into, and I found I found a video
- 33:55online, which, of course, you know online video should always be trusted.
- 33:59Where im and said back in the day of ye old England and knights
- 34:06and things, they would put huckleberries on their lances to signify they're the champion
- 34:15of the joust. And that is supposedly how it originated. And then and
- 34:22then fast forward into southern gentlemanly times, that would have carried over with the
- 34:28chivalry, the knighthood and everything, saying I'm your huckle bearer, I'm your
- 34:31huckleberry. That's not a Frodian slip so much so. And this is where
- 34:37the two pats intersect, right where Raj is both right and wrong, somewhere
- 34:44in the middle of the teeniest tiniest venn diagram you've ever seen. You are
- 34:50right, Raj. The men that carried the caskets were called huckle bearers,
- 34:57but they also wore on their lapels typically huckle Berry's mm hmm. So there's
- 35:02the intersection where you're both right and a little wrong. And ultimately, Val
- 35:10Kilmer said huckleberry because he said, he said it, and it was in
- 35:14the script, and the other thing I tried to do to verify this was
- 35:17in my uh, you know, show brain, was I know how we
- 35:22can settle this. Let me look up who wrote Tombstone and invite this person
- 35:30onto the show to clear this up for us, even though we can see
- 35:34the script online. Bad news, he's dead. That was That was Kevin
- 35:42Jari. I think that's how you say his last name. A prolific Hollywood
- 35:45writer. He wrote some other wonderful films. I don't need to go down
- 35:50his entire list, but he's a he's a good writer. And I recognized
- 35:52the name as soon as I saw it, So then I thought, okay,
- 35:55fine, let me see about the director. Because the director is obviously
- 35:59going to know about the script. We'll ask him. Turns out he's dead
- 36:04too, and I, unfortunately I can't currently ask veil Val Kilmer. So
- 36:10we're left with the internet sleuthing that I've done. Gotcha. I have to
- 36:17know what what transpired between the two of you that left Dan so scarred that
- 36:25Raj being right on such a trivial thing has led him two weeks of internet
- 36:31research and sleuthing. He doesn't he doesn't like me being right. What what
- 36:37what happened? Honestly, I better think of a good reason, really fucking
- 36:50fast, otherwise that's gonna stick, and I'm gonna let it. Unfortunately,
- 37:00I can't think of what so I find myself in a real predicament here.
- 37:05Other thing for me to say it just doesn't feel good doesn't help my cause
- 37:14how about this. I don't typically get to be right very often in my
- 37:16life, So any opportunity that I can be right, I'm going to try
- 37:20to reach for it. That's about as good as I can come up with
- 37:22at the moment, because I have not dug down too decently. Here's why
- 37:25it bothers me being right. Here's where I get petty. When you said
- 37:30you looked, when you looked it up, what's your source? What did
- 37:32you? Because I just looked it up too, So what's your what's your
- 37:36source? Uh? There's a guy on YouTube? There was a guy on
- 37:39YouTube. Oh yeah, is the next video where Bigfoot lives? That was
- 37:45like that? That was the third one down. Don't be ridiculous, rug.
- 37:49I very much realize and and accept the fact that, like most people
- 37:53trying to find information that they want to find to support their argument, it's
- 38:00very easy to do so online, whether it's accurate or not. But it
- 38:04makes you feel good and and that's why you repeat it, and it also
- 38:07makes you seem smart. But really reality, all you're doing is repeating stuff,
- 38:12right, I did. I did various you know, internet searches as
- 38:15much as you can. I mean, Wikipedia is a pretty solid source most
- 38:19of the time. You just got to make sure that some of the you
- 38:22know, the stuff that's in there, you know, is not someone just
- 38:24having fun with a wiki page. But yeah, I mean you type into
- 38:30the Google huckle Berry versus huckle Bearer, and next thing you know, you're
- 38:35seeing videos pop up about nine to eleven conspiracies because the Internet thinks you're that
- 38:38gullible or you want the truth see or you have that time on your hands.
- 38:51People, I had about fifteen minutes, tray. That's about the time.
- 38:54I'd like to say for the record that I devoted to it, even
- 38:57though it was much more than that. Oh good, Okay, I didn't.
- 39:00I didn't want to. I didn't want to my being right to consume
- 39:02your weekend, I didn't want it to to. What I do with my
- 39:07personal time is my business. No. But the context, the reason the
- 39:13huckle bear thing comes up is because he says when he says, I'm your
- 39:16huggle bear, and then he comes out of the shadow and he says,
- 39:21why, Johnny Ringo, you look like somebody just walked over your grave.
- 39:23And it's that's where the context of I'm your huckle bear comes in. So
- 39:28he might have been saying huckle berry before. I don't know, but that's
- 39:31specific. It's and again when you go back to the thing like factually incorrect,
- 39:37like he Doc Holliday was in court in Colorado when Johnny Ringo died,
- 39:42so there was no way he ever actually shot Johnny Ringo. So well,
- 39:46we know, Hollywood takes a lot of license with things. Yeah, they
- 39:50took they took Johnny Ringo's actual suicide and made it Doc Holladay killing him.
- 39:54So it's a little bit of a little bit more of an artistic liberty than
- 39:59than most most movies will take. You would think that you would think that
- 40:07the remaining Ringos would have had something to say, Please God when God forbid
- 40:15whenever Paul McCartney dies, if Ringo Star is still alive, that's the name
- 40:19of his band, Remaining Ringo. Yeah, that's the that's the tribute band
- 40:27for Ringo Star, Remaining Ringos. Yes, I don't know, it's it's
- 40:32not a Beatles tribute band, that's a Ringo Star tribute band. And the
- 40:37entire band is just four guys dressed as Ringo star, all playing the drums.
- 40:42It's chaos. Yes, I don't know how how, I don't know
- 40:47how vast of a family Johnny Ringo had, but I'm hoping, uh,
- 40:52maybe we can find we can do like an ancestry something, and we can
- 40:57find his his family members to clarify and verify that Doc Holliday did not actually
- 41:04kill Ringo. Yeah. So not only did Tombstone take great license with historical
- 41:09facts but also terms as we're now kind of left in this gray area of
- 41:16huckle Berry versus huckle Bearer. And again, great irony in this is that
- 41:22I can't call the writer of the film to ask him because he died.
- 41:25Also can't ask the director because he's also dead. But can you can you
- 41:30not look up the script online? Can you not look up? You can?
- 41:32But that's but then we're looking at an image online which can be you
- 41:37know, doctored and falsified in some way. Oh okay, okay, so
- 41:43you're so you'll go down the rabbit hole of information. But when it comes
- 41:47to reading the script that's online, that could be doctor Yeah, just because
- 41:52you can see the flag on the moon doesn't mean the flags on the moon,
- 41:55Raj, Hey you Trey. Oh no, I have a fear we're
- 42:06going this way. But again going back to the irony in this, and
- 42:09I would love to be able to ask the writer of tombstone, you know,
- 42:15go straight to the source. Was it Huckleberry or huckle bearer? And
- 42:21even if I had been, interestingly enough one of his huckle bearers at his
- 42:24funeral, I would have still opened the casket a little bit and go,
- 42:28hey, I got a quick question. I know you're embalmed in all,
- 42:32but any chance you got a original script in there with you that I could
- 42:37take a look at the bear him with the script and you take it out,
- 42:45ah proof And I run to you, Raj, I run to you.
- 42:49I have now robbed a man's grave to show you that you were wrong.
- 42:53And that's how much I don't want you to be right. And again
- 42:57I have not come up with a good answer in the last ten minutes since
- 43:00Trey brought it up that the reason for me not wanting you to be right
- 43:04might be steeped to racism. It ultimately just boils down to not wanting a
- 43:12friend that I've had for like twenty years to be right about something when I
- 43:15want to be right about it. I just hope with that guy's funeral,
- 43:21whoever wrote it, when they in the the pamphlet, they just put instead
- 43:27of you know, not huckle not Paul, just blank bear, just so
- 43:30everyone could take a guess. Uh, that'd be a dick move. Although
- 43:37he is one of the one of the few people that could actually have on
- 43:39his tombstone I'm your Huckleberry, and he could actually own it because he wrote
- 43:44it. So I have I have the script. And this is the part
- 43:53where Johnny Ringo's drunk and he the IRPs are walking down the street. Doc
- 43:59Holliday getting the shave, doing his his shave and he's threatening the brothers.
- 44:08He said, you know, I want to fight you, and he's like,
- 44:10sober up. There's no money in it. And he's like, don't
- 44:14you guys have any Uh? Don't you guys want to play for blood?
- 44:17And don Holiday says that's just my game and over the shoulder voiceover it says,
- 44:25I'm your Huncleberry. So you are correct, Okay, I'm I'm I'm
- 44:34what In the script it says, I'm your Huncleberry. So there are so
- 44:40we're both We're at the we're both at the intersection of that Vin diagram.
- 44:44We're both correct. Yes, we're both correct. I'm sorry. All I
- 44:51heard was that I was right. Yeah, we're both correct. The Humcleberry
- 44:54is in the script and huckle Bear is what they were called. But you
- 44:59still have to figure out why it bothered you so much. Yeah, you
- 45:01need some therapy on that one. I haven't really thought that since we did.
- 45:07I haven't really. It's going to be a difficult conversation to have with
- 45:09my therapist about it because she's black. Oh that's why she's never right.
- 45:25Just kidding. Oh, but I do need therapy. Thanks for hanging out
- 45:30with us inside the tree House. Coming up tomorrow, Day two of Treehouse
- 45:36Gone Wild. Treehouse Gone Wild day too. It's spring break in the Treehouse.
- 45:39Thanks for being with us. We'll see you back here tomorrow.
