- 0:00Speaker 1: What is going on a Friday afternoon.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I hope you guys are doing well.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Andrewszilli'll hanging out with you for the next three hours
- 0:08Speaker 1: as Craig Way and company in Birmingham, Alabama, as the
- 0:11Speaker 1: Texas Longhorn women's basketball team gets ready to play the
- 0:16Speaker 1: Tennessee Lady Bowls tomorrow. It is a jam pack day
- 0:21Speaker 1: of college basketball. The Sweet sixteen up and running on
- 0:25Speaker 1: the men's and women's side of things. Tomorrow, we have
- 0:28Speaker 1: our trio of big games, of course, in the middle
- 0:31Speaker 1: sandwich between the two number three Notre Dame and number
- 0:34Speaker 1: two TCU and number three Oklahoma and number two Yukon
- 0:37Speaker 1: is the number one ranked Texas Longhorns versus number five
- 0:41Speaker 1: seeded Tennessee. A rematch of a game that you saw
- 0:44Speaker 1: in the regular season, and this time the stakes could
- 0:48Speaker 1: not be higher. Vick Schaeffer and his team spoke earlier
- 0:52Speaker 1: today for media availability. We'll get some of that audio.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Texas Baseball travels to Columbia, Missouri, as the Longhorn of
- 0:59Speaker 1: baseball team gets ready to start their run tonight, and
- 1:04Speaker 1: coach the Swatstone got asked an interesting question yesterday about
- 1:07Speaker 1: how do you get a team excited when you're playing
- 1:11Speaker 1: a team like Missouri because oh and six in the conference.
- 1:14Speaker 1: You have so many great teams that are in the SEC,
- 1:18Speaker 1: Missouri not being one of them. Early in the season.
- 1:21Speaker 1: How do you get excited for those type of games?
- 1:23Speaker 1: How do you get up and get moving? Well, part
- 1:25Speaker 1: of the way that you can get up and get
- 1:26Speaker 1: moving is by listening to it right here on the
- 1:28Speaker 1: zone first pitches at six pm. Roger Wallace will be
- 1:30Speaker 1: on the call. We'll talk to Roger in the four
- 1:32Speaker 1: o'clock hour. But I was curious to kind of get
- 1:35Speaker 1: in the head of a head coach when it comes
- 1:37Speaker 1: to games like that, because baseball is the every single
- 1:41Speaker 1: day grind, right for a college baseball team in the SEC,
- 1:45Speaker 1: you got your midweek game and then you got to
- 1:47Speaker 1: go play an SEC a pony. You got your midweek
- 1:49Speaker 1: game and the SEC apon and it's very easy to
- 1:53Speaker 1: lose some of the early season luster. The long warns
- 1:56Speaker 1: haven't shown that yet. But this game against Missouri, this
- 2:00Speaker 1: weekend series against Missouri, you know you can drop two
- 2:03Speaker 1: of three if.
- 2:03Speaker 2: You're not ready to go.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And it looks like Jim Showschnegl and his team is
- 2:08Speaker 1: ready to go. We'll hear from him and his team later.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Coming up next in the next segment, at two seventeen,
- 2:15Speaker 1: Craig Way joins the program, talking all things Longhorns. Obviously
- 2:18Speaker 1: gives a preview of other women's basketball baseball. We probably
- 2:22Speaker 1: will talk a little softball with them. His Dodgers looked
- 2:25Speaker 1: really good yesterday. So there's a lot going on on
- 2:29Speaker 1: the forty acres. There's a ton going on on a
- 2:32Speaker 1: Friday edition of The Craigway Show. And of course, because
- 2:36Speaker 1: nothing could ever be normal, news has to break right
- 2:39Speaker 1: before we come on air. That news being the Memphis
- 2:43Speaker 1: Grizzlies firing Taylor Jenkins. They're head coach, they're winning as coach.
- 2:49Speaker 1: It's weird. It's a strange firing. It doesn't make a
- 2:54Speaker 1: ton of sense. The Grizzlies currently are the five seed
- 2:57Speaker 1: in the Western Conference. Over their last ten games though
- 3:00Speaker 1: five and five, so as they limped towards the postseason
- 3:04Speaker 1: ownership front office, they decided to make a chain now.
- 3:08Speaker 1: The team believe the Jenkins had lost to the locker room.
- 3:10Speaker 1: According to ESPN's Sham Sharati, they lost the locker room
- 3:15Speaker 1: over the course of the season, and the change happening
- 3:18Speaker 1: now might mitigate how the Grizzlies finished the season. Now again,
- 3:22Speaker 1: there's like ten games left. This is a big move.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Right before the playoffs, the front office spoke longingly about him.
- 3:29Speaker 1: They said they were happy with everything he's done over
- 3:32Speaker 1: the past six seasons, that it's a very difficult decision,
- 3:35Speaker 1: all of these things being you know, the things that
- 3:37Speaker 1: you say when you fire your head coach the middle
- 3:40Speaker 1: of the season.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Jenkins, he's forty.
- 3:43Speaker 1: He served as the Grizzlies head coach since that twenty
- 3:45Speaker 1: nineteen twenty twenty season. He's been with jab Moran since
- 3:48Speaker 1: he won the Rookie of the Year, three postseason appearances,
- 3:52Speaker 1: but only one playoff series win. Now, Taylor Jenkins by
- 3:56Speaker 1: being fired by the Grizzlies marks the third time in
- 3:59Speaker 1: history of the league that a team is left that
- 4:03Speaker 1: coach has left the team midseason after winning at least
- 4:06Speaker 1: forty games during the campaign. Those other two coaches Larry
- 4:10Speaker 1: Brown with the New Jersey Nets and Don Nelson in
- 4:13Speaker 1: the four to five season with the Dallas Mavericks.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Now again, this is.
- 4:18Speaker 1: A really a big firing because you think about the
- 4:23Speaker 1: coaches that are on or in the job market potentially,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and Tayo Jenkins is a guy who has a lot
- 4:29Speaker 1: of connections to San Antonio where Greg Popvich is trying
- 4:33Speaker 1: to come back from his health scare earlier this season.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So you think to yourself, like, could this be one
- 4:40Speaker 1: of those connections. Could this be a guy that the
- 4:43Speaker 1: Spurs now are looking at as they might be looking
- 4:46Speaker 1: to replace their head coach or add somebody to the
- 4:48Speaker 1: bench to be the air apparent. Again, a lot of
- 4:52Speaker 1: moving parts, obviously, but the biggest news, of course Grizzlies,
- 4:56Speaker 1: a playoff team firing their head coach right before for
- 5:00Speaker 1: the playoffs. This is not something that we see every
- 5:02Speaker 1: single day. This is a strange firing obviously. Now there
- 5:07Speaker 1: probably is some more to the story, and of course,
- 5:11Speaker 1: as that story develops, we'll have it for you here
- 5:14Speaker 1: on a thirteen hundred zone. But it is a big
- 5:17Speaker 1: move by a team that is trying to make a
- 5:20Speaker 1: push for the push in the playoffs and try to
- 5:24Speaker 1: get an elusive title for the city of Memphis, Tennessee
- 5:27Speaker 1: all right, NCAA Action Last Night Final or the Sweet
- 5:33Speaker 1: six team And it was the game of the night,
- 5:36Speaker 1: an overtime loss by Arkansas two three seeded Texas Tech
- 5:42Speaker 1: eighty five to eighty three was the final score. The
- 5:45Speaker 1: way that the Razorbacks lost that game, the way that
- 5:49Speaker 1: John Calipari lost that game, will go down in the
- 5:53Speaker 1: record books the history books of college sports as one
- 5:57Speaker 1: of the worst losses in the NCAA Tournament. Razorbacks led
- 6:01Speaker 1: sixty nine to fifty six. With under five minutes to go,
- 6:05Speaker 1: Red Raiders stormed back. Darian Williams had to go ahead
- 6:08Speaker 1: layup with five seconds remaining. Arkansas's final shot was no good.
- 6:13Speaker 1: There was enough time, though, for John caler Party to
- 6:16Speaker 1: call a timeout and drop a play for his team
- 6:18Speaker 1: with the season on the line. Instead, he took that
- 6:22Speaker 1: time out with him into the locker room and let
- 6:24Speaker 1: the final seconds play out. Now there's a course something
- 6:27Speaker 1: to be said for letting your guys figure it out,
- 6:29Speaker 1: letting you guys play. But this was the second time
- 6:32Speaker 1: under a month that Cali Party has made that type
- 6:35Speaker 1: of mistake.
- 6:36Speaker 2: He raised eyebrows.
- 6:36Speaker 1: In the SEC Tournament, Arkansas up by three over South Carolina,
- 6:40Speaker 1: he told Janelle Davis to miss a free throw in
- 6:42Speaker 1: a very odd sequence. Now the season online, he refused
- 6:45Speaker 1: to call a timeout. Razorback fans are not happy with
- 6:49Speaker 1: their head coach, even if that head coach is a
- 6:52Speaker 1: Hall of Famer. Now, KLi Parti spoke about his team
- 6:55Speaker 1: going dry, not being able to hit any shots down
- 6:57Speaker 1: the stretch.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Why do you think you guys drive up a little
- 7:00Speaker 2: bit scoring in the last few minutes.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Well, we had we missed a shot and we kicked
- 7:05Speaker 3: it out and there was a new shot clock and
- 7:06Speaker 3: we shot.
- 7:07Speaker 4: At three, which again.
- 7:11Speaker 3: We had open shots, tried to drive and took tough shots.
- 7:16Speaker 5: We had a couple of those.
- 7:18Speaker 3: But to be honest with you, you know, I'll have
- 7:22Speaker 3: to think back, but we were trying to run things
- 7:26Speaker 3: to maybe drive the ball more.
- 7:29Speaker 5: That's what we were doing.
- 7:30Speaker 4: And when we did drive it, we looked pretty good.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's tough to lose a game like that.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Obviously, your season comes to an end if you're the Razorbacks.
- 7:40Speaker 1: But you go through the stats and you think that
- 7:43Speaker 1: was a game we should have won. You win the offensive,
- 7:46Speaker 1: rebounding battle, You win the rebounding battle in totality, you
- 7:50Speaker 1: shoot the lights out, you shoot well from the field,
- 7:53Speaker 1: and you go home anyway, And there's nobody to blame
- 7:56Speaker 1: in this spot except for the head coach. It's the
- 8:00Speaker 1: head coach's job to be able to see the entire
- 8:03Speaker 1: floor of the entire chess board and make moves. The
- 8:06Speaker 1: Razorbacks had plenty of times yesterday that they could have
- 8:10Speaker 1: called the time out, they could have slowed things down,
- 8:12Speaker 1: and you would expect a national championship winning coach like
- 8:16Speaker 1: John Calipari to make the right calls there. But again
- 8:20Speaker 1: the Razorbacks go home empty handed in year number one
- 8:24Speaker 1: with Arkansas. Is it a successful season to make it
- 8:27Speaker 1: to the sweet sixteen? You know, some Razorback fans might
- 8:30Speaker 1: say yes, I had expectations for this team before the season.
- 8:35Speaker 1: They struggled in the SEC regular season, they struggled in
- 8:38Speaker 1: the SEC tournament at times, and now out in the
- 8:41Speaker 1: Sweet sixteen. So Tennessee moves on to take on number
- 8:43Speaker 1: one seeded Florida later and again this will be a
- 8:49Speaker 1: big matchup. Obviously, Florida still picked as one of the
- 8:52Speaker 1: teams to advance far in the NCAA Men's Tournament. But
- 8:58Speaker 1: there's a lot of good games this coming weekend, and
- 9:01Speaker 1: you want to know if the raid Or of the
- 9:03Speaker 1: Red Raiders can take this win that they were able
- 9:06Speaker 1: to grab from the jaws of defeat and move on
- 9:09Speaker 1: to try and knock off another SEC powerhouse. All Right,
- 9:11Speaker 1: when we come back, Craig Way names on the show,
- 9:14Speaker 1: He's going to talk to us about all things Longhorns.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Give us an update on the Texas women's basketball team.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Is Aaron Birmingham for tomorrow's matchup against the Tennessee Lady Vols.
- 9:24Speaker 2: All coming up next.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Craigway Show continues in a moment on sports Radio AM
- 9:28Speaker 1: thirteen hundred The Zone, Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The
- 9:32Speaker 1: Zone and from an undisclosed location watching a huge North
- 9:36Speaker 1: Carolina duke matchup, it is Craig Way. Craig How doing
- 9:39Speaker 1: this afternoon?
- 9:40Speaker 2: Man, Oh, I'll disclose it to you.
- 9:42Speaker 6: I'm in Birmingham, Alabama, yet I was, but we're the
- 9:45Speaker 6: first game. Remember a reminder for people that these regions
- 9:51Speaker 6: for the women are different from the men in that
- 9:53Speaker 6: instead of having four sights East, Southwest, and Midwest for
- 9:58Speaker 6: the man, they two regionals at two sites. So there's
- 10:03Speaker 6: two in Spokane, Washington, and there's two here in Birmingham,
- 10:09Speaker 6: and one of the ones in Spokane starts tonight and
- 10:14Speaker 6: the first of the two here in Birmingham is underway
- 10:16Speaker 6: right now, and it's a rivalry, North Carolina and Duke,
- 10:22Speaker 6: who are ours rivals, but they've never met in the
- 10:25Speaker 6: NCAA Tournament in women's basketball before, and they split two
- 10:29Speaker 6: regular season meetings and North Carolina jumped to an eleven
- 10:34Speaker 6: nothing league in Duke has caught fire since and they're
- 10:36Speaker 6: up twenty four eighteen. They're getting to the late stage
- 10:39Speaker 6: of the first half. The winner of this game is
- 10:41Speaker 6: going to get the winner of the matchup between the
- 10:43Speaker 6: defending national champions South Carolina and Maryland. Now that's the
- 10:48Speaker 6: first of the Birmingham regions. The winner of the region
- 10:52Speaker 6: overall and the Elite eight game would be on Monday,
- 10:56Speaker 6: or would be on Sunday, excuse me. The winner of
- 10:58Speaker 6: that game will meet in the Final four the winner
- 11:02Speaker 6: of the other Birmingham region that's the one the Longhorns
- 11:05Speaker 6: are in where TCU, the two seed, will play Notre
- 11:08Speaker 6: Dame the three seed, tomorrow at noon, and then the
- 11:11Speaker 6: Longhorns the number one seed, will play the number five
- 11:15Speaker 6: seed Tennessee in a rematch of the regular season game,
- 11:19Speaker 6: and that will be tomorrow afternoon at two thirty on
- 11:21Speaker 6: the Zone. So they've won two regionals at each site
- 11:25Speaker 6: and they're well attended. As a result of that, I.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Was going to ask all on the same gym. These
- 11:29Speaker 1: two weefferent regionals.
- 11:30Speaker 6: Craig Yeah, boats are at the Legacy Arena in downtown Birmingham.
- 11:35Speaker 6: They started this concept last year. Then they did it
- 11:39Speaker 6: in Portland and the long Orangs were up there in
- 11:41Speaker 6: Portland and Texas was in the Friday Sunday Portland Regional,
- 11:47Speaker 6: and then there was another one Saturday Monday. The Friday
- 11:49Speaker 6: Sunday was on where Texas lost to NC State in
- 11:52Speaker 6: the Elite eight, and the Friday the Saturday Monday was
- 11:55Speaker 6: one where Yukon beat USC.
- 12:00Speaker 7: Last year.
- 12:00Speaker 6: So last year folks got a chance to see Paige
- 12:03Speaker 6: Beckers against Juju Watkins and Yukon and USC are in
- 12:07Speaker 6: Spokane this year, but of course ju Ju being out
- 12:10Speaker 6: with the porn acl that ch used to stay the
- 12:14Speaker 6: other night and their second round win up for Mississippi State,
- 12:17Speaker 6: that won't happen, although I think both could wind up
- 12:19Speaker 6: playing each other in the Elite eate. I do think
- 12:22Speaker 6: that USC, even without Juju Watkins, will beat Kansas State,
- 12:26Speaker 6: and I think Yukon will beat Oklahoma, and it'll probably
- 12:30Speaker 6: be USC and Ukon meeting in the Elite Eight for
- 12:33Speaker 6: the second straight year.
- 12:34Speaker 1: So yukonn right now a fifteen and a half point favorite,
- 12:38Speaker 1: USC only a one and a half point favorite against
- 12:40Speaker 1: Kansas State. Craig vick Schaefer, This is interesting. So he's
- 12:44Speaker 1: talked all season about how much he loves his team,
- 12:47Speaker 1: how this is one of the best teams he's coached.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Last year's team goes to an LEADI eight without Roy Harmon.
- 12:52Speaker 1: This year's team, do you feel like you've watched him
- 12:55Speaker 1: enough to say like this is a national championship team.
- 13:00Speaker 6: It's national championship caliber, certainly, and they earned that through
- 13:03Speaker 6: the year. The number one seed. That said, I think
- 13:06Speaker 6: the road this year is more difficult from this point forward.
- 13:11Speaker 6: Last year I thought the path had opened up pretty
- 13:15Speaker 6: much for them when NC State won in the regional
- 13:19Speaker 6: semifinal round and I thought, Okay, this looks a but
- 13:21Speaker 6: I underestimated NC said, I don't think Texas did, but
- 13:25Speaker 6: I think I certainly did. And they played great, and
- 13:29Speaker 6: they've got most of that team back, and they're in
- 13:31Speaker 6: the other spoketan region or NC State is there with
- 13:35Speaker 6: u C l A where the LSU is in that retail.
- 13:39Speaker 6: So that's that's going to be really interesting to see.
- 13:42Speaker 6: UCLA is playing old Miss tonight, who was tough. You know,
- 13:44Speaker 6: Texas had two hard fought wins of Role Miss this year,
- 13:47Speaker 6: one in the regular season in Oxford and then one
- 13:50Speaker 6: in the SEC tournament. Uh, they they're capable of giving
- 13:53Speaker 6: U c. L A a tough time, and UCLA is the
- 13:55Speaker 6: top seed there. But I do think the path is
- 13:58Speaker 6: tougher this year for Texas. First of all, they're playing
- 14:03Speaker 6: a team in Tennessee that they only beat by four
- 14:07Speaker 6: points when they met two months ago, back in January.
- 14:11Speaker 6: And that was the game. I don't if you remember this, Andrew,
- 14:15Speaker 6: but that was the game where Tennessee was with Ale.
- 14:17Speaker 6: Its head coach Kim Caldwell was giving birth to her son,
- 14:24Speaker 6: and so she wasn't there for that, but she said,
- 14:28Speaker 6: and Vic said, and I think the players have said
- 14:31Speaker 6: they you know, they pretty much ran you know, her
- 14:34Speaker 6: longtime assistant ran ran the practice. So it was pretty
- 14:38Speaker 6: much like it looked if she.
- 14:40Speaker 5: Had been there.
- 14:41Speaker 6: But uh, they've been on a hot streak lately and
- 14:45Speaker 6: it's gonna be it's gonna be tough. They went into
- 14:46Speaker 6: Ohio State and really decisively beat the number four seed
- 14:50Speaker 6: Buckeyes on their own home four, so you've got that
- 14:53Speaker 6: and then if they win that. Uh. They haven't played
- 14:55Speaker 6: TTU this year, but TCU is really good. They've got
- 14:59Speaker 6: Hayley band Lift, the guard who transferred from Louisville to
- 15:03Speaker 6: LSU and then LSU to TCU, and she was the
- 15:05Speaker 6: guard for Louisville two years ago who led them for
- 15:09Speaker 6: that second round whenever Texas at Moody Center, the only
- 15:12Speaker 6: time since Shaefer has been the head coach in five
- 15:15Speaker 6: years that he didn't have a Texas team in the
- 15:17Speaker 6: Sweet sixteen, and they've won that contest. Well, she's an
- 15:23Speaker 6: outstanding guard, have a couple other really good guards, and
- 15:26Speaker 6: they have Sadonah Prince, the six eight post player from
- 15:29Speaker 6: Liberty Hill who was a Loghorn but never played for
- 15:32Speaker 6: Texas due to leg injury, wound up transferring to Oregon
- 15:36Speaker 6: and then ultimately to TCU. So having said all that,
- 15:40Speaker 6: I think Notre Dame is one of the hottest teams
- 15:43Speaker 6: in the country right now as well. And Notre Dame
- 15:46Speaker 6: will play TCU in the first game at noon. Notre
- 15:49Speaker 6: Dame beat Texas in overtime back in December acc SEC Challenge.
- 15:54Speaker 6: But I think it's gonna be a terrific game. I
- 15:56Speaker 6: think both games are going to be really, really good games.
- 16:00Speaker 6: Duke has gone up eight on Carolina at the half
- 16:02Speaker 6: after trailing eleven and up and early. I think Duke's
- 16:04Speaker 6: probably gonna win that game. And I think South Carolina
- 16:06Speaker 6: is going to handle Maryland. I think the two games
- 16:09Speaker 6: here in Birmingham tomorrow could be that could be much better.
- 16:13Speaker 1: As a matter of fact, well, I said this entire
- 16:15Speaker 1: slate of game tomorrow, Craig. It's back to back to
- 16:17Speaker 1: back with Texas, Yukon and everybody else playing. So you
- 16:20Speaker 1: talk about Tennessee not having their head coach last time
- 16:23Speaker 1: these two teams played, I think that that might play
- 16:26Speaker 1: a part. Do you feel like that could be the
- 16:28Speaker 1: decider and X factor coming into this matchup tomorrow.
- 16:32Speaker 6: Well, both sides are down playing it. Both sides are
- 16:35Speaker 6: saying it wouldn't that big a deal, you know, because
- 16:38Speaker 6: she had her longtime assistant coach running and I pretty
- 16:40Speaker 6: much ran. And remember it was a four point game.
- 16:44Speaker 6: It was the heck of a ball game. The key
- 16:47Speaker 6: to Tennessee is tempo and three point shooting. They love
- 16:51Speaker 6: to get it up and down before Texas doesn't mind
- 16:52Speaker 6: getting it up and down the floor, but they want
- 16:54Speaker 6: to put pressure on it. And also I should point
- 16:57Speaker 6: out that Tennessee will put pressure on you. Tennessee also
- 17:01Speaker 6: loves to shoot the three. They shoot thirty three percent
- 17:05Speaker 6: as a team beyond the arc. But they can get very,
- 17:08Speaker 6: very streaky. So that's that's gonna be something to watch.
- 17:12Speaker 6: I think Talaysia Cooper, the South Carolina transfer, their leading scorer,
- 17:16Speaker 6: is somebody that she's in that kind of swing position,
- 17:19Speaker 6: much like Madison Booker is. For Texas, it's gonna be
- 17:24Speaker 6: a battle of tempo and for Texas they're trying to
- 17:27Speaker 6: control the glass, rebounding. They're second in the nation in
- 17:31Speaker 6: second chance points, so that those are things that they
- 17:35Speaker 6: if Texas has the game going its way, rebounding, controlling
- 17:38Speaker 6: the glass, and second chance points and I like the
- 17:41Speaker 6: long orange chances.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Well, you look at the last time these two teams played,
- 17:44Speaker 1: Tennessee had I think eight players in double figure minutes.
- 17:47Speaker 5: Crag.
- 17:47Speaker 2: They're a deep team too.
- 17:50Speaker 6: Yeah, they are. I think both these teams are deep
- 17:53Speaker 6: and can run lots of lots of players in and out.
- 17:56Speaker 6: You know, the last couple of ball games Vic Safer
- 18:00Speaker 6: has had Jordan Lee start, but Jacquelina went in. Tomda
- 18:04Speaker 6: has given him some great minutes and production off the bench.
- 18:07Speaker 6: He had a career high nineteen points in the winn
- 18:09Speaker 6: Ofver Illinois. Obviously, Kyla Oldacre is going to rotate in
- 18:13Speaker 6: at the post there with Taylor Jones. Brianna Preston is
- 18:17Speaker 6: able to spell Rory Harmon at the point, so they
- 18:21Speaker 6: go deep as well. And I think that, you know,
- 18:23Speaker 6: the depth on both sides will keep these teams fresh.
- 18:26Speaker 1: So Juju Watkins goes down with an ACL injury, Craig,
- 18:29Speaker 1: I counted six. You might have counted more questions to
- 18:32Speaker 1: Rory Harmon about her ACL injury this past week.
- 18:35Speaker 6: Yeah, and today in the press or that they they
- 18:40Speaker 6: you know, they took a different routes they asked Rory about.
- 18:45Speaker 6: I thought it was a really good question that a
- 18:47Speaker 6: reporter from USA Today asked her about how much of
- 18:52Speaker 6: it is mental and how much of his piscical, because
- 18:55Speaker 6: Vick Shaffer just got through talking about it being mainly mental,
- 18:58Speaker 6: and she said it's way more mental than it is physical.
- 19:01Speaker 6: She talked about this, she said, I'm still going through it.
- 19:04Speaker 6: When you she said, I'm still going through it, right
- 19:07Speaker 6: now you know you don't. It's always in the back
- 19:09Speaker 6: of your mind, even once the doctors clear you and
- 19:11Speaker 6: say you're good to go. Now, I having said all that,
- 19:15Speaker 6: you know, I'm I'm in on their close practices, And
- 19:17Speaker 6: so I got a chance to watch them this morning,
- 19:19Speaker 6: and Vick was very complimentary of how she still does
- 19:23Speaker 6: incredible things. He said, even earlier today, It's true just
- 19:25Speaker 6: watching her just zooming back and forth and the way
- 19:31Speaker 6: that she runs the offense, and then you know, she
- 19:34Speaker 6: sets it up for Madison Booker and Taylor Jones, you know,
- 19:37Speaker 6: and Shay Holly and everybody else to be in high
- 19:41Speaker 6: positions to score. So yeah, they asked her a lot
- 19:44Speaker 6: about it. She feels really bad about Juju Wacket's but
- 19:47Speaker 6: he said that she is determined that Juju wi a
- 19:50Speaker 6: to be able to do that. She is going to
- 19:51Speaker 6: come back better.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Tip off tomorrow between Texas and number five tennessee number
- 19:56Speaker 1: five see tennessee two thirty tip here on the zone.
- 19:59Speaker 1: So Craig to night, Texas goes to Missouri. I thought
- 20:01Speaker 1: you was lost. Now got a really good question yesterday
- 20:04Speaker 1: during his media availability about how do you get excited
- 20:06Speaker 1: for a team like Missouri who's owing six and conference play.
- 20:09Speaker 2: I thought it was really insightful.
- 20:11Speaker 5: I didn't hear it.
- 20:12Speaker 6: What did he say.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Oh, he was saying, it's a faceless opponent. You got
- 20:15Speaker 1: to come in. Anybody in this league can beat anybody.
- 20:18Speaker 1: And I think that that's a really good way to
- 20:19Speaker 1: look at it.
- 20:21Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's his philosophy about the SEC, because he
- 20:23Speaker 6: obviously has coached in the SEC when he was coaching
- 20:27Speaker 6: at Texas A and M, and he has preached that
- 20:30Speaker 6: mantra from the start, going to Starkville, playing LSU at home,
- 20:34Speaker 6: and now getting ready to go to Columbia. He's like,
- 20:37Speaker 6: it doesn't batter, it's SEC the old it just means more.
- 20:41Speaker 6: And uh, that's that's his look at it. It's just
- 20:44Speaker 6: it's going to be difficult no matter especially on the road.
- 20:48Speaker 5: In the SEC.
- 20:48Speaker 6: And I know they just swept Mississippi State on the
- 20:50Speaker 6: road and Missouri hasn't won a conference game yet. Uh,
- 20:54Speaker 6: but it's it's still it's gonna be it's gonna be
- 20:57Speaker 6: a challenge for them.
- 20:58Speaker 8: Uh.
- 20:58Speaker 6: This is this is kind of a hitter friendly ballpark.
- 21:02Speaker 6: And I think you'll hear that when you visit with
- 21:04Speaker 6: Roger Wallace. This afternoon, and I think Kate Keith Horland
- 21:06Speaker 6: maybe in the booth with him.
- 21:08Speaker 5: At that time.
- 21:08Speaker 6: Of course, Roger and Keith web the call all three
- 21:11Speaker 6: games on one of three point one FM this weekend
- 21:13Speaker 6: and he they will talk about how this can be
- 21:17Speaker 6: very hitter friendly if that wind is going. Like Keith
- 21:20Speaker 6: and I have done games that in the past when
- 21:22Speaker 6: Missouri was in the Big twelve, when the weather was
- 21:24Speaker 6: a gigantic crackt We've had tornado watches in there and
- 21:28Speaker 6: thunderstorms and high winds, and there's a there's a side,
- 21:32Speaker 6: there's a you know how you see the distance signs
- 21:36Speaker 6: on the walls of ballparks at three hundred and eighty
- 21:38Speaker 6: five feet four hundred feet whatever, and it's kind of
- 21:41Speaker 6: a short porch down the line, down the right field line,
- 21:44Speaker 6: but beyond the right field fence, Andrew is Missouri's indoor
- 21:49Speaker 6: football practice facility. And it's beyond that fence and up
- 21:54Speaker 6: the wall of that practice facility. Big metal building is
- 21:59Speaker 6: a sign and it says four twenty. And I remember,
- 22:03Speaker 6: you know, when Texas had dust to Mayski when he
- 22:05Speaker 6: played Big Song power up the left handed hit her
- 22:08Speaker 6: in the early two thousands. He hit one onto the
- 22:10Speaker 6: roof of that thing, about a four hundred and forty
- 22:12Speaker 6: foot shot, and I'm telling you that's got Max Blue
- 22:16Speaker 6: written all over it. If the wind blowing out and
- 22:19Speaker 6: they get him a ball out over the plate that
- 22:22Speaker 6: he can pull, he might land it on the roof
- 22:24Speaker 6: out there because he can crush it. But it is
- 22:28Speaker 6: a hitter friendly ballpark, so you got to keep the
- 22:30Speaker 6: ball down there.
- 22:31Speaker 1: And I would be remiss not to mention that softball
- 22:34Speaker 1: plays at Starkville the Mississippi State matchup.
- 22:38Speaker 2: It's gonna be a good one. This is the hottest
- 22:39Speaker 2: team in softball right now, Craig.
- 22:42Speaker 7: Listen.
- 22:42Speaker 6: I just took to get home safely, and all the
- 22:45Speaker 6: time from Starkville thinking about that men's basketball. Women's basketball
- 22:49Speaker 6: got stuck there overnight and had to come back the
- 22:53Speaker 6: next day.
- 22:54Speaker 5: And then when.
- 22:56Speaker 6: We were there with baseball, we almost didn't get out.
- 23:00Speaker 6: They were threatening to close the airport, saying we close
- 23:02Speaker 6: at nine o'clock. And remember Texas had to play double
- 23:05Speaker 6: heater on that Sunday. Well, they got over there and
- 23:07Speaker 6: got it done and got over there and got out
- 23:08Speaker 6: in time. So I'm just hoping Coach White's team can
- 23:11Speaker 6: get it done, wrap it up out of there and
- 23:13Speaker 6: get out of there with three wins and come home
- 23:15Speaker 6: all right on Sundays.
- 23:16Speaker 1: He's on the call tomorrow, Craig Way, Texas and Tennessee
- 23:19Speaker 1: play in the Sweet sixteen in the Birmingham region. Craig,
- 23:23Speaker 1: thanks so much, man.
- 23:24Speaker 7: Hey, Yeah, and just.
- 23:25Speaker 6: We're reminding everybody obviously it's a switch this weeknd because
- 23:29Speaker 6: we have Round Rock Express Baseball on the zone starting
- 23:32Speaker 6: to night with their opener, so you know, Long Worn
- 23:36Speaker 6: Baseball throughout the weekend on one oh three point one FM,
- 23:40Speaker 6: Austin's eight station. You can listen on the apps. You
- 23:42Speaker 6: can connect to it to the iHeartRadio app obviously and
- 23:45Speaker 6: then the Texas Longhorns app and online at Texas Longhorns
- 23:49Speaker 6: dot com. And then of course the women's games will
- 23:51Speaker 6: be on the Zone tomorrow afternoon two fifteen, airtime two
- 23:56Speaker 6: thirty with the tip off, and if they advanced to
- 23:59Speaker 6: the lead eight, that would big Monday evening at six
- 24:02Speaker 6: and that would also be able to zone. So just
- 24:03Speaker 6: want to remind everybody.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Of that and if they match you, if they make
- 24:06Speaker 1: that matchup in the Elite eight, I will be talking
- 24:08Speaker 1: to you again about what they needed you to beat
- 24:11Speaker 1: either Notre Dame or TCU.
- 24:13Speaker 6: I look forward to I hope that's the case.
- 24:16Speaker 2: At Craig Wait, thanks so much.
- 24:17Speaker 6: Man, all right, have a good one, Jim.
- 24:19Speaker 2: All right when we come back.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Inconceivable on a Florida Man Friday, all coming up next
- 24:24Speaker 1: to the Craig Way Show, Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
- 24:26Speaker 1: The Zone. Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Is
- 24:30Speaker 1: it inconceivable for the six man from San Antonio to
- 24:33Speaker 1: fill in for Craig Way? Not entirely, Okay, seems pretty conceivable.
- 24:39Speaker 1: What is conceivable inconceivable is the amount of home runs
- 24:42Speaker 1: hit yesterday in Major League Baseball. And it started in
- 24:46Speaker 1: Game number one. Yankees offense got off to a quick
- 24:50Speaker 1: start against the Milwaukee Brewers after a home run from
- 24:53Speaker 1: leadoff batter Austin Wells, a solo shot in the bottom
- 24:57Speaker 1: of the first. It was a three hundred and forty
- 24:59Speaker 1: eight yard home run to right center field that short
- 25:02Speaker 1: porch at Yankee Stadium.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Wells became the.
- 25:05Speaker 1: First catcher ever they hit a leadoff home run on
- 25:09Speaker 1: opening day. That's an over one hundred and fifty years
- 25:13Speaker 1: of professional baseball. He is the first leadoff home run
- 25:18Speaker 1: by a catcher, which is absolutely insane when you think
- 25:23Speaker 1: about it that way. He's the first player in Yankees
- 25:25Speaker 1: history with a leadoff home run an opening day. He
- 25:28Speaker 1: it's hard to imagine that, especially considering that they had
- 25:31Speaker 1: guys like Jeter and Ricky Henderson, and you know it
- 25:35Speaker 1: had to be had to be our guy, Austin Wells.
- 25:38Speaker 2: All right, let's talk.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Florida man Friday, and it starts with a man that
- 25:46Speaker 1: looks like you would expect him to We'll put it
- 25:50Speaker 1: that way. A tatted of Florida man tried to assure
- 25:52Speaker 1: cops that there's quote nothing wrong with drugs after it
- 25:56Speaker 1: was discovered bags of meta I mean in his underpants
- 26:01Speaker 1: during his strip search last week. Thomas Carpenter, forty one,
- 26:05Speaker 1: was originally pulled over by deputies for suspected traffic violations
- 26:09Speaker 1: in March, but officers soon discovered evidence of drug use
- 26:13Speaker 1: inside his car with two children and an unidentified woman inside,
- 26:17Speaker 1: as well a recipe for disaster. Authorities found a bag
- 26:21Speaker 1: full of paraphernalia marijuana possibly methamfetamine in the car. While
- 26:25Speaker 1: officers tried to talk to the Carpenter, he struggled to
- 26:28Speaker 1: stay awake and apparently kept fading in and out of consciousness,
- 26:32Speaker 1: not exactly what you want to see behind the wheel
- 26:35Speaker 1: or operating a vehicle. His female pastor told deputies that
- 26:38Speaker 1: they had both smoked in the car shortly before they
- 26:40Speaker 1: were pulled over. Neither of the adults had a medical
- 26:43Speaker 1: marijuana cart at the time. However, the woman was let go,
- 26:46Speaker 1: but deputies arrested Carpenter and booked him at Punham County Jail,
- 26:51Speaker 1: where he appeared. Solomon his mugshot, which showed heavy face tattoos.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I can confirm those face tattoos include not one, not two,
- 27:03Speaker 1: but four separate writings over the left right eyebrow and
- 27:09Speaker 1: then underneath the lip. And then of course you gotta
- 27:11Speaker 1: love the hairline on a man that has a forehead tattoo,
- 27:14Speaker 1: because you would think forehead tattoo would scream, just shave
- 27:17Speaker 1: the rest of the head. Nope, got to keep that
- 27:21Speaker 1: receding hairline. Make sure everybody knows that you had hair
- 27:25Speaker 1: at one point. Okay, now, I've said to everybody who
- 27:29Speaker 1: would listen that you cannot argue with people on the internet.
- 27:32Speaker 1: It's very easy for talk show hosts, it's very easy
- 27:36Speaker 1: for podcast hosts, and even you you want to fight
- 27:40Speaker 1: with people on Facebook. I don't get it. I don't
- 27:42Speaker 1: understand what the point is. You're never gonna win. You're
- 27:44Speaker 1: not changing any hearts or minds on Facebook. Well, what's
- 27:47Speaker 1: started as an online argument between two childhood best friends
- 27:51Speaker 1: well took a violent turn when one of them pulled
- 27:53Speaker 1: out a gun and opened fire through the front door.
- 27:56Speaker 1: This happened in Florida. Charlotte County deputies arrested Kevin Johnson
- 28:00Speaker 1: in Inglewood after he allegedly shot his longtime friend over
- 28:04Speaker 1: a heated confrontation. According to the deputies, the altercation began
- 28:09Speaker 1: on Facebook when Johnson's childhood friend got an intense back
- 28:13Speaker 1: and forth. The conversation escalated and they decided to sell
- 28:16Speaker 1: the dispute in person. Both men agreed to me with weapons,
- 28:20Speaker 1: but the victim didn't come alone. He brought another person
- 28:23Speaker 1: with him. What happened left the neighborhood in shock. As
- 28:26Speaker 1: the two men knocked on Johnson's door, he opened fire
- 28:30Speaker 1: before taking off. A neighbors saw a loud bang, and
- 28:34Speaker 1: they were quoted saying, we live in a crazy world.
- 28:36Speaker 1: This You never know how people will react.
- 28:39Speaker 6: Now.
- 28:39Speaker 1: What's very disappointing in the story is they don't say
- 28:43Speaker 1: what the argument was over. It's very popular right now
- 28:47Speaker 1: to be arguing Jordan and Lebron. You know, that's an
- 28:49Speaker 1: argument that never gets old. I say facetiously, I want
- 28:54Speaker 1: to know what they were fighting about. Was it about
- 28:57Speaker 1: who rings the best LASAGNI? I need to know so.
- 29:01Speaker 1: And finally, the most Florida man story you can possibly
- 29:05Speaker 1: imagine has to take in the land where dreams are made.
- 29:08Speaker 1: We're talking about Epcot at disney World. Families in Walt
- 29:11Speaker 1: Disney World during last year's holiday season witness two twenty
- 29:15Speaker 1: five year olds getting arrested screaming at cast members. This
- 29:20Speaker 1: happened in Fort Lauderdale. They were arrested. Both pled not
- 29:22Speaker 1: guilty to criminal charges. Both men would potentially get their
- 29:26Speaker 1: cases dismissed. It took Orange County Sheriff's Office more than
- 29:30Speaker 1: three months to release the arrest. The reports say a
- 29:32Speaker 1: young a group of young people were in argument at
- 29:35Speaker 1: the France pavilion with a woman who was using a wheelchair,
- 29:39Speaker 1: which was unprompted which unclear how prompted the argument. They
- 29:42Speaker 1: got in a physical fight with the woman in the
- 29:44Speaker 1: wheelchair because he felt disrespected and wanted to confront her.
- 29:50Speaker 1: So this man is fighting a woman in a wheelchair
- 29:56Speaker 1: at Epcot. Not exactly what dreams are made of, all right,
- 30:00Speaker 1: Dad is going to do it for inconceivable on a
- 30:02Speaker 1: Florida Man Friday. What's most inconceivable that Austin Wells is
- 30:06Speaker 1: the first Yankee to have a leadoff home run as
- 30:09Speaker 1: a catcher, or that people are getting pulled over with
- 30:13Speaker 1: meth in their underwear. What's the most inconceivable thing in Florida?
- 30:18Speaker 2: Nothing will surprise me or when we.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Come back, we will wrap up our number one of
- 30:21Speaker 1: The Craigway Show. Andrew zim will sitting in for Craig
- 30:25Speaker 1: on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
- 30:37Speaker 8: Welcome back to The Craigway Show and the Voice of
- 30:40Speaker 8: the Longhorns Craig Way. Follow Craig on social media at
- 30:44Speaker 8: Horn Voice sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. You
- 30:48Speaker 8: can follow me Andrew Zimmele at Andrew Underscore, Zimmele on Twitter,
- 30:52Speaker 8: Blue Sky, Instagram, wherever you get your content. Also make
- 30:56Speaker 8: sure you check out YouTube page Zimmele dot Tv. Trying
- 31:00Speaker 8: to put more content up there as well. In hour
- 31:03Speaker 8: number two, we're gonna hear about Dion Sanders Prime time.
- 31:07Speaker 1: He spoke with Skip Bayless about the likelihood of him
- 31:12Speaker 1: actually coaching the Dallas Cowboys at any point in the
- 31:15Speaker 1: future or now, and also about his son, Shadoor Sanders,
- 31:20Speaker 1: and how he's okay with wherever his kid decides to
- 31:24Speaker 1: get or decides to get paid.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Speeding in paid.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Deon today sign a record extension with Colorado, And you
- 31:33Speaker 1: have to imagine this probably comes on the heels of
- 31:35Speaker 1: that conversation with Skip Bailess, Colorado Deon Sanders. Colorado and
- 31:39Speaker 1: Deon Sanders have agreed to a five year, seventy or
- 31:42Speaker 1: fifty four million dollar contract extension going all the way
- 31:45Speaker 1: through the twenty twenty nine season. It'll make him one
- 31:50Speaker 1: of the highest paid coaches in college football. He'll learn
- 31:53Speaker 1: another ten million dollars in twenty twenty six, eleven, and
- 31:56Speaker 1: twenty seven, eleven, and twenty eight and twelve in twenty
- 31:59Speaker 1: twenty nine. If Sanders does agree to get another coaching
- 32:05Speaker 1: job before the end of his contract, the buyout would
- 32:07Speaker 1: start at twelve million dollars, which is a lot of money.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Is it worth twelve million dollars or more to try
- 32:16Speaker 1: to buy him out?
- 32:17Speaker 2: If you are Jerry Jones and company. Yeah, we'll see.
- 32:21Speaker 1: News broke today that the Memphis Grizzlies decided to move
- 32:25Speaker 1: off of their head coach Taylor Jenkins, who's forty years old,
- 32:28Speaker 1: one of the winning this coaches in Memphis Grizzly history.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Forty four and twenty nine on the season. They are
- 32:35Speaker 1: currently the fifth seed in a jam packed Western Conference.
- 32:38Speaker 1: If you go through it, Lakers are forty four and
- 32:41Speaker 1: twenty nine, Memphis forty four and twenty nine, the LA
- 32:44Speaker 1: Clippers are forty one and thirty one. There is no
- 32:47Speaker 1: room separating the top two through eight seed in the
- 32:53Speaker 1: Western Conference. There's a seven game difference between the Houston Rockets,
- 32:56Speaker 1: the two seed, and the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are currently
- 32:59Speaker 1: in the play in as an eight seed.
- 33:01Speaker 2: It is jam packed.
- 33:03Speaker 1: It is a light very very tight, and you think
- 33:06Speaker 1: to yourself, why move off of a coach like Taylor Jenkins?
- 33:18Speaker 1: Memphis reason, we're still trying to fight it out.
- 33:22Speaker 4: Excuse me.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Earlier this season, oh man, Earlier this season, Jenkins passed
- 33:30Speaker 1: Lionel Hollins become the winning as coach in Grizzly's history.
- 33:35Speaker 1: He is a fifty four percent winning percentage As the
- 33:39Speaker 1: head coach, he turned around a franchise that when he
- 33:41Speaker 1: was hired the season before, was struggling. Since getting John
- 33:47Speaker 1: Moran and turning him into the rook of the year,
- 33:50Speaker 1: he's only had one season where he missed the playoffs
- 33:52Speaker 1: twenty seven and fifty five last year, but that was
- 33:56Speaker 1: because John Moran suspension an injury. Morant lot missed seventy
- 34:02Speaker 1: three games that season. And I've been a big truth
- 34:07Speaker 1: when it comes to Ja Morant's availability that of all
- 34:10Speaker 1: of the superstars in the league, the guys who get
- 34:13Speaker 1: the most grief, the Joel Embiads of the world, the
- 34:15Speaker 1: Paul george' of the world, the Qui Leonards of the world,
- 34:17Speaker 1: John Moran doesn't play a lot of games, if we're
- 34:19Speaker 1: being completely honest. He's a guy who plays the first
- 34:23Speaker 1: game of back to back, you know, miss a couple
- 34:25Speaker 1: of weeks, you always have to deal with the impending
- 34:28Speaker 1: suspensions that kind of are over your head. And when
- 34:31Speaker 1: you compare him to the other players at his position,
- 34:35Speaker 1: he's not somebody that if you're trying to win basketball games,
- 34:38Speaker 1: you want to have on your team. I've been a
- 34:41Speaker 1: guy who said before that if Jah Morant was available,
- 34:44Speaker 1: and all of a sudden he becomes on the trade market.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Would I want my favorite team to trade for him
- 34:48Speaker 2: at this point?
- 34:50Speaker 1: Probably not if I was a team that wanted a
- 34:53Speaker 1: stability at that position, if I was a team that
- 34:55Speaker 1: wanted any sort of maturity at that position. Ja Morant'
- 34:59Speaker 1: just is not guy hasn't proved to be that guy.
- 35:02Speaker 1: And guards who are explosive tend to age very, very poorly.
- 35:08Speaker 1: You think about the Derrick Roses, the Russell Westbrooks, the
- 35:12Speaker 1: Al Averson's of the world, all explosive players, all struggled
- 35:16Speaker 1: to continue that athleticism later in their career. Guys like
- 35:19Speaker 1: Westbrook were able to find other roles. But even then
- 35:22Speaker 1: he found a role in Denver where he's kind of
- 35:25Speaker 1: to do everything Swiss army knife and in that role
- 35:28Speaker 1: only playing next to Nick like Jokic. Has it worked.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Other news coming out today, and I thought it was
- 35:33Speaker 1: interesting because everybody's going back and forth with the Stephen D.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Smith Lebron James thing that happened on ESPN. I don't
- 35:40Speaker 1: find it all that interesting. I don't find any new
- 35:43Speaker 1: ground to be broken there. It's two grown men arguing
- 35:46Speaker 1: with each other.
- 35:46Speaker 2: On TV.
- 35:47Speaker 1: It's not something that we haven't seen before. We've all
- 35:50Speaker 1: seen this game before. It feels more like WWE, more
- 35:54Speaker 1: like Real Housewives than it does anything that is really
- 35:57Speaker 1: pertinent and pertinent and doesn't add anything to the true
- 36:02Speaker 1: understanding of the sport of basketball.
- 36:04Speaker 2: It doesn't. It doesn't do anything for any of us.
- 36:06Speaker 1: But Brian wind Horse could have took a ton of
- 36:08Speaker 1: a ton of strays in this back and forth, and
- 36:12Speaker 1: he was on TV today, didn't talk about any of that,
- 36:15Speaker 1: kind of put it all to rest, didn't take any
- 36:18Speaker 1: shots back to Lebron. He came on TV to talk
- 36:21Speaker 1: about NBA and expansion and for people who are interested
- 36:25Speaker 1: in those games that the Spurs are playing in Austin,
- 36:27Speaker 1: people who are interesting in what's happening in Dallas where
- 36:29Speaker 1: they're gutting the team, could they potentially move Wydworth puts
- 36:32Speaker 1: a lot of that to rest. This was Brian windhrrise
- 36:35Speaker 1: earlier today.
- 36:37Speaker 2: For the as the.
- 36:38Speaker 9: Casual fan here is this is not putting NBA teams
- 36:42Speaker 9: in Europe. This would be creating a league that is
- 36:45Speaker 9: run by the NBA in Europe. For decades, the European
- 36:49Speaker 9: leagues have produced great players like Jokich and you know,
- 36:54Speaker 9: Don Chic. But it's a bit of underachieved economically and
- 36:57Speaker 9: underachieved with their fan bases. What the NBA sees is
- 37:00Speaker 9: they see an opportunity to potentially move into places like London,
- 37:03Speaker 9: to Paris, to Berlin and potentially create a league.
- 37:08Speaker 2: But it's not a done deal. The owners have.
- 37:10Speaker 9: Not signed off on it yet. But I will say
- 37:13Speaker 9: that when the NBA commissioner wants something to happen, and
- 37:16Speaker 9: very clearly he wants it to happen, it probably will happen. Also,
- 37:20Speaker 9: Adam Silver said today NBA expansion meaning Las Vegas and Seattle,
- 37:26Speaker 9: is still not on the table. It's something that they're
- 37:28Speaker 9: still pushing off. They're more focused on creating a league
- 37:31Speaker 9: in Europe right now than they are expanding in the NBA.
- 37:34Speaker 9: I still think we're going to expansion, but I think
- 37:36Speaker 9: you're going to see European expansion again with a different
- 37:39Speaker 9: league happening.
- 37:40Speaker 2: First, which is so crazy.
- 37:42Speaker 1: You think about Wick Grossbeck, who just sold the Boston
- 37:45Speaker 1: Celtics for six billion dollars. Everybody was under the impression
- 37:50Speaker 1: that you make a move like that because you want
- 37:51Speaker 1: to set the bar for how much NBA teams will
- 37:55Speaker 1: go for in the expansion era when you were trying
- 37:57Speaker 1: to add two teams to the league. If the league
- 38:00Speaker 1: is more interested in going overseas and building a European
- 38:05Speaker 1: NBA league, well that's a whole different story. That entails
- 38:09Speaker 1: a whole different set of challenges. How much does that
- 38:11Speaker 1: go for? Is the NBA trying to reach across the
- 38:15Speaker 1: pond corner winding horse? Yeah, all right, when we come back,
- 38:18Speaker 1: we'll talk Deon Sanders. Will also gear you up for
- 38:21Speaker 1: Texas and Tennessee tomorrow in the Sweet sixteen all coming
- 38:25Speaker 1: up next to the Craig Way Show Sports Radio AM
- 38:27Speaker 1: thirteen hundred zone team you have Texas and Tennessee. The
- 38:35Speaker 1: Lady Bols two thirty tip one oh three are correction.
- 38:39Speaker 1: The zone is where you can hear that one two
- 38:41Speaker 1: fifteen airtime two thirty tip right here on the zone.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Tomorrow noon tip three Notre Dame, number two seed TCU
- 38:50Speaker 1: that it will be the winner of that game will
- 38:52Speaker 1: play the winner of Tennessee and Texas, and then later
- 38:55Speaker 1: in the day it is a four to thirty tip
- 38:58Speaker 1: between number three Sea of Oklahoma, number two seeded Yukon.
- 39:00Speaker 1: If you're a women's basketball fan, Tomorrow is your nirvana.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Tomorrow is the best Sweet sixteen lineup maybe ever, because
- 39:11Speaker 1: the other part is five seeded Kansas State taking on
- 39:14Speaker 1: one seeded usc USC without Juju Watkins is a very
- 39:19Speaker 1: different team. It's a very different team. The Trojans are
- 39:24Speaker 1: only a one and a half point favorite. They would
- 39:26Speaker 1: have been a double digit favorite with Juju. Now they're
- 39:28Speaker 1: a one and a half point favorite. There's a world
- 39:30Speaker 1: where USC the number one overall seed or the number
- 39:34Speaker 1: four overall one seed. Fry day this fry yay, we'll
- 39:39Speaker 1: call it as we are excited for the weekend jam
- 39:43Speaker 1: packed women's basketball. In the Sweet sixteen. You have Texas
- 39:47Speaker 1: and Tennessee. The Lady Bowls two thirty tip one O
- 39:52Speaker 1: three are crashing. The zone is where you can hear
- 39:55Speaker 1: that one two fifteen air time two thirty tip right
- 39:58Speaker 1: here on the zone. Tomorrow new tip three Notre Dame
- 40:02Speaker 1: number two seed TCU that it will be the winner
- 40:06Speaker 1: of that game will play the winner of Tennessee and Texas.
- 40:09Speaker 1: And then later in the day it is a four
- 40:12Speaker 1: to thirty tip between number three seeded Oklahoma number two
- 40:14Speaker 1: seeded Yukon. If you're a women's basketball fan, tomorrow is
- 40:19Speaker 1: your nirvana. Tomorrow is the best Sweet sixteen lineup maybe ever,
- 40:25Speaker 1: because the other part is five seeded Kansas State taking
- 40:28Speaker 1: on one seeded USC. USC without Juju Watkins is a
- 40:33Speaker 1: very different team. It's a very different team. The Trojans
- 40:38Speaker 1: are only a one and a half point favorite. They
- 40:41Speaker 1: would have been a double digit favorite with Juju. Now
- 40:43Speaker 1: they're a one and a half point favorite. There's a
- 40:44Speaker 1: world where USC, the number one overall seed or the
- 40:48Speaker 1: number four overall one seed gets bounced in the Sweet sixteen. Now,
- 40:53Speaker 1: obviously it's going to be because of Juju's injury. Tears
- 40:56Speaker 1: of ACL aful over the sport off of for the Trojans.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Interesting for how this tournament continues to go because USC
- 41:05Speaker 1: was one of the teams that a lot of people
- 41:06Speaker 1: picked to win the whole thing, or at least win
- 41:09Speaker 1: that side of the bracket. Without Juju, things change. Tonight
- 41:13Speaker 1: one oh three to one will be your home for
- 41:15Speaker 1: Texas Baseball as the Round Rock Express begin their season
- 41:20Speaker 1: tonight as well. First pitch nine pm right here on
- 41:22Speaker 1: the Zone Texas Baseball six pm, one oh three one.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Roger Wallason, Keith Moreland on the call. We will visit
- 41:28Speaker 1: with them in our number two to talk Texas and Missouri.
- 41:33Speaker 1: But let's talk a little college football because Deon Sanders
- 41:37Speaker 1: Prime Time spoke with Skip Bayless. Now, this is coming
- 41:41Speaker 1: on the heels of conversations all off season, pretty much
- 41:46Speaker 1: since before the Alama Bowl was played, about what Dion
- 41:50Speaker 1: would do if he was going to be linked to
- 41:53Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboy job, if he was going to take
- 41:55Speaker 1: the job to be the head coach of America's team.
- 42:00Speaker 1: The other side part of this, I'm gonna put a
- 42:02Speaker 1: quick side noil here. Skip Bayless is a history with
- 42:06Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys. If you're not familiar with it, it's
- 42:08Speaker 1: a fascinating one. Who's a b reporter covering the team
- 42:12Speaker 1: in the nineties. He's not exactly the biggest I don't
- 42:15Speaker 1: think Troy Aikman or Jerry Jones are the biggest fans
- 42:17Speaker 1: of Skip Bayless. But Dion decided to sit down and
- 42:20Speaker 1: talk to him, and Skip talked to Dion about the
- 42:24Speaker 1: likelihood and the possibility of potentially coaching the Dallas Cowboys.
- 42:28Speaker 10: First, I didn't really think about it. After we conversated,
- 42:33Speaker 10: I said, Wow, like this.
- 42:36Speaker 7: This has a possibility.
- 42:37Speaker 5: Would I do it.
- 42:38Speaker 10: And the only way I would have done it, skip
- 42:41Speaker 10: to be honest with you, is I knew guaranteed I
- 42:44Speaker 10: had an opportunity to coach my sons.
- 42:46Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely, yeah.
- 42:48Speaker 10: Because other than that, you know why, like why it
- 42:52Speaker 10: don't make sense to me. But if I have the
- 42:54Speaker 10: opportunity to continue coaching charlot ss your door, I would
- 42:57Speaker 10: have been astatic, you know, and Dallas is well, yeah,
- 43:01Speaker 10: that would have been awesome.
- 43:02Speaker 1: All right, So let's read the tea leaves here. If
- 43:05Speaker 1: he had an opportunity to coach his sons, Shiloh probably
- 43:09Speaker 1: not an NFL player. Everybody's screaming nepotism out Lebron and Browny.
- 43:14Speaker 1: If Shiloh Sanders is ever playing NFL snaps and Deon's
- 43:18Speaker 1: the head coach, that is nepotism, That truly is depotism.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Shiloh Sanders does not need to be on an NFL field. Shador,
- 43:24Speaker 1: on the other hand, is a top five pick. So
- 43:26Speaker 1: that tells me that those conversations with Jerry Jones, however
- 43:30Speaker 1: real they were, however close to the finish line they
- 43:34Speaker 1: were to getting a prime time head coach in Dallas,
- 43:39Speaker 1: that tells me that the Cowboys were not willing to
- 43:42Speaker 1: move off of Dak Prescott and try to trade up
- 43:45Speaker 1: for Shador. Because if Jerry Jones came to Deon Sanders
- 43:48Speaker 1: and said we needed to be the head coach of
- 43:50Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys, and he said, all right, well, we
- 43:53Speaker 1: need to trade Dak Prescott bring in Shador. I want
- 43:56Speaker 1: him to be the starting quarterback. I have a sneaking
- 43:59Speaker 1: suspectdition that that would have happened, that we would be
- 44:03Speaker 1: talking today in late March about Primetime being the head coach,
- 44:07Speaker 1: and that the Cowboys have traded up, traded Dak Prescott
- 44:10Speaker 1: to the New York Giants or to the Cleveland Browns
- 44:13Speaker 1: to try to bring in Shador Sanders as their starting quarterback.
- 44:16Speaker 1: But because that didn't happen, and because the Cowboys are
- 44:20Speaker 1: not linked to Shador, and because outside of the rumors
- 44:24Speaker 1: that we had earlier this week that Dak Prescott was
- 44:27Speaker 1: heading to Cleveland on again that's rumors, We're in a
- 44:32Speaker 1: spot now where we can confirm that dm was not
- 44:36Speaker 1: going to be the head coach of Dallas Cowboys. That's
- 44:39Speaker 1: just how it goes. And is that for the best
- 44:42Speaker 1: for the organization. I would maybe argument, yeah, it's probably
- 44:45Speaker 1: a good idea that he's not coaching his kid at
- 44:49Speaker 1: the NFL level. It's probably a good idea that the
- 44:52Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys try to run a professional organization instead of
- 44:55Speaker 1: continuing to be the side show for the NFL, A
- 45:00Speaker 1: proud organization that once had Tom Landry and you know
- 45:04Speaker 1: Roger Staubach now has turned into a clown show led
- 45:09Speaker 1: by a Carnival Barker and having Dion be in that
- 45:16Speaker 1: ring leader probably wouldn't be a good idea. But Shador,
- 45:21Speaker 1: let's talk about him, because we were at a point
- 45:25Speaker 1: earlier this week where there was rumors floating around after
- 45:29Speaker 1: interviewing with teams at the combine that he was very
- 45:32Speaker 1: dismissive that he thought that he was maybe bigger than
- 45:37Speaker 1: some of the organizations that were interviewing him, that it
- 45:39Speaker 1: wasn't going to work between Shador Sanders and some of
- 45:42Speaker 1: these teams. That because he comes from wealth, he does
- 45:45Speaker 1: not need that life changing money that some other quarterbacks
- 45:49Speaker 1: in this draft might be looking for, and he's carrying
- 45:51Speaker 1: himself in a way that some coaches and some organizations aren't.
- 45:54Speaker 5: A fan of.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Dion spoke at length with Skip Bayless on his podcast
- 46:00Speaker 1: about Shador's interviewing and where he thinks he's going to go.
- 46:04Speaker 5: First, I didn't really think about it after we.
- 46:09Speaker 9: And he did.
- 46:11Speaker 10: You know me, I'm gonna get to the bottom of it.
- 46:12Speaker 10: So I called it team because I tracked it down.
- 46:14Speaker 10: I knew it was and I called a head coach
- 46:16Speaker 10: and we had a candy conversation because it was good
- 46:18Speaker 10: for you, really cool, and he said, Prime, that never happened.
- 46:22Speaker 4: He said, matter of fact, it.
- 46:23Speaker 5: Was a great interview.
- 46:24Speaker 10: We all walked out of there saying, dang, this kid
- 46:27Speaker 10: got it. I said, yeah, but this guy on your
- 46:30Speaker 10: staff lied and saying.
- 46:31Speaker 7: It did so you need to check him.
- 46:33Speaker 10: And he did. Shador's told me he talked to me
- 46:37Speaker 10: intently about all the visits he's had with all the teams,
- 46:39Speaker 10: so I know where his heart is.
- 46:40Speaker 5: I know where he wants to go. If it's New York,
- 46:43Speaker 5: it's New York.
- 46:43Speaker 10: If it's Tennessee, if it's Cleveland, if it's still the Raiders,
- 46:47Speaker 10: if it's New Orleans, if it's any of those teams
- 46:50Speaker 10: that are seeking a quarterback.
- 46:51Speaker 5: I'm happy with it, man, because I know what he's
- 46:53Speaker 5: going to do to the organization. I know what he's
- 46:55Speaker 5: gonna do.
- 46:56Speaker 2: I like that.
- 46:57Speaker 1: I like the Deanna saying, hey, look I talk to him.
- 47:00Speaker 1: I talked to the coaches because it was rumored. Taught
- 47:02Speaker 1: me Shay had it, and a couple other sources had
- 47:05Speaker 1: it as well, that Chador was maybe a little dismissive.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Maybe he was coming and having a little bit of
- 47:11Speaker 1: ego to those conversations with the different teams. I'm glad
- 47:15Speaker 1: that Dion, who has a little bit of sway, a
- 47:18Speaker 1: little bit of power NFL Hall of Famer, can call
- 47:20Speaker 1: a coach and say.
- 47:21Speaker 2: Hey, what's going on?
- 47:23Speaker 1: You tell me you were side of the story, because
- 47:24Speaker 1: I imagine that if Shadar really was dismissive, that these
- 47:27Speaker 1: coaches would say, hey, had Dian he he was. He
- 47:30Speaker 1: was kind of a jerk, kind of a pretty boy. Here,
- 47:33Speaker 1: what are we doing? What are we going to do
- 47:34Speaker 1: about it? The other part too, He mentions the Giants first, again,
- 47:40Speaker 1: you're reading the Tea leaves, Okay, Abdull, Carter, him Woard.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Those two feel like their top two picks. Travis Hunter
- 47:47Speaker 1: is getting pushed further and further down. There's four players
- 47:51Speaker 1: in this draft who obviously are the four most talented,
- 47:54Speaker 1: most talked about players Abdull Carter, even if he's dealing
- 47:57Speaker 1: with a shoulder injury, even if he's dealing with a
- 47:59Speaker 1: stress factor, even though he didn't want to work out
- 48:01Speaker 1: as his pro day, he is a generational talent. This
- 48:04Speaker 1: is a guy that size for size, cout and for pound,
- 48:08Speaker 1: is going to get talked about like Miles Garrett, like
- 48:11Speaker 1: JJ Watt, like Nick Bosa, like some of the best
- 48:14Speaker 1: edge rushers over the last decade in the NFL.
- 48:17Speaker 2: He's that type of talent. He's that good of a prospect.
- 48:21Speaker 1: Travis Hunter obviously two way player, generational talent on the
- 48:25Speaker 1: wide receiver side of things. Could be a all pro
- 48:29Speaker 1: secondary guy if you want to put him at corner
- 48:31Speaker 1: of safety. Could be the next coming of a Deone
- 48:34Speaker 1: Sanders type player. And then, of course cam Ward and
- 48:37Speaker 1: Chador two quarterbacks, the highly touted quarterbacks, guys who have
- 48:41Speaker 1: won awards, who have played very well. Those guys are
- 48:44Speaker 1: going to be talked about. All So there's these four,
- 48:46Speaker 1: these four players, but the quarterback battle between Ward and
- 48:50Speaker 1: Chador has obviously gone to cam Ward. He has talked
- 48:53Speaker 1: about now is the number one overall pick to the
- 48:55Speaker 1: Tennessee Titans. So then you think Okay, do the Cleveland
- 48:58Speaker 1: Browns draft a quarterback or do they go after a
- 49:02Speaker 1: edge rusher.
- 49:04Speaker 2: And then is the New York.
- 49:05Speaker 1: Giants, who right now have a quarterback room of Russell Wilson,
- 49:11Speaker 1: Jameis Winston, and possibly Shador Sanders. I like, of all
- 49:18Speaker 1: the places for him to land, I don't mind Chador
- 49:21Speaker 1: in New York. It doesn't make the greatest sense to me,
- 49:26Speaker 1: right but I'll take it. They got my lad neighbors,
- 49:29Speaker 1: they got a good running back room. I will put
- 49:31Speaker 1: Shador Sanders in New York before Cleveland. I would rather
- 49:36Speaker 1: have him in New York in the Big Apple. He's
- 49:39Speaker 1: dealt with the press, He's dealt with the paparazzi. He's
- 49:41Speaker 1: dealt with the spotlight. He was the man at Jackson State,
- 49:44Speaker 1: he was the man in Colorado, he was the man
- 49:48Speaker 1: at the NFL Combine. He is going to be the
- 49:50Speaker 1: man in New York. And he doesn't have to play
- 49:52Speaker 1: right away. He's got Jams and Russell Wilson to take
- 49:54Speaker 1: some snaps before him that he can learn behind the scenes.
- 49:57Speaker 1: I'm glad that the pendulum is shifting the way from
- 50:00Speaker 1: starting ricky quarterbacks immediately. Let's go back to having it
- 50:03Speaker 1: where they sit for a year they learn the NFL.
- 50:06Speaker 1: And also for shod Door Sanders, you probably love that
- 50:10Speaker 1: because after playing at Colorado with no offensive line and
- 50:12Speaker 1: running for your life all the time, you get a
- 50:14Speaker 1: year of just rehabilitation, recovery. I get to sit and
- 50:18Speaker 1: watch how the league works. Sign me up and finally
- 50:23Speaker 1: we'll pull out of justice. Shadar Sanders role model, his idol,
- 50:26Speaker 1: the guy he trains with and works out with, Tom Brady.
- 50:29Speaker 1: How ironic is it? The Tom Brady the only team
- 50:31Speaker 1: he couldn't beat in the Super Bowl consistently, the New
- 50:34Speaker 1: York Giants. He's protege. Chiduar Sanders goes plays there, kind
- 50:40Speaker 1: of a full circle moment, all right. When we come back.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Texas Baseball tonight, six pm. First pitch on one O
- 50:47Speaker 1: three one. Jim Slashnagel talk to the media before his
- 50:50Speaker 1: team heads over to Missouri to take on the Tigers.
- 50:53Speaker 1: We'll hear about it next right here on sports Radio
- 50:55Speaker 1: AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
- 51:09Speaker 8: It's the craig Way Show with the voice of the
- 51:12Speaker 8: Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame broadcast there.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Craig Way Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the zone. Craig
- 51:19Speaker 1: will be on the call tomorrow two fifteen air time,
- 51:21Speaker 1: two thirty tip right here on the zone. As the
- 51:24Speaker 1: Texas Longhorns getting the Sweet sixteen against number five seeded
- 51:28Speaker 1: Tennessee Lady Bowls. That game again, two thirty tip right
- 51:31Speaker 1: here on the zone. Well tonight on one oh three one,
- 51:35Speaker 1: the Texas Longhorn baseball team takes on Missouri, a team
- 51:39Speaker 1: that's ozero to six in SEC Conference play. So it's
- 51:43Speaker 1: very difficult to get excited for games like that. It's
- 51:45Speaker 1: very difficult to travel out to Missouri and play a
- 51:48Speaker 1: team that is still looking for an SEC Conference win.
- 51:52Speaker 1: But if you ask Roam Slashnagle, you gotta take every
- 51:55Speaker 1: single one of these games with a grant of salt.
- 51:57Speaker 1: And it's important to win your Secret conference games in
- 52:01Speaker 1: the regular season get better seating in the postseason.
- 52:04Speaker 2: So let's hear it.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Jims last Age had media availability earlier this week. We'll
- 52:09Speaker 1: start with his opening statement.
- 52:11Speaker 11: First of all, you know, certainly just I've never been
- 52:13Speaker 11: to Columbia, Missouri, so I think it's been I don't
- 52:16Speaker 11: think anybody on our team has been up there that
- 52:19Speaker 11: I know of, so that experience is I'm looking forward
- 52:24Speaker 11: to it. Heard great things about it, heard great things
- 52:26Speaker 11: about the town, the college town. I think it presents
- 52:30Speaker 11: its own unique set of challenges in terms of the
- 52:34Speaker 11: atmosphere relative to what we've played in the last two weeks.
- 52:38Speaker 11: Kerrick Jackson is a really good friend of mine, the
- 52:40Speaker 11: head coach up there, and he's doing an unbelievable job
- 52:43Speaker 11: at a place that has challenges in our league, you know,
- 52:47Speaker 11: just being just from a climate standpoint, Missouri has been
- 52:50Speaker 11: great coach in years past. Coach Jamison Tony Botello was
- 52:55Speaker 11: an assistant coach there, played there, did a great job
- 52:58Speaker 11: signing a lot of great players. So I have had
- 53:00Speaker 11: a chance to watch them on video yet, but I
- 53:03Speaker 11: know that. You know, they scored a bunch of runs
- 53:05Speaker 11: last week against Ole miss and they have three left
- 53:09Speaker 11: handed starters, which is at the end of the day,
- 53:12Speaker 11: left handed pitching really, you know, in this especially in
- 53:14Speaker 11: this league, gives you a chance to win. So you know,
- 53:18Speaker 11: this is a big challenge for us coming off what
- 53:19Speaker 11: we've come off the past week.
- 53:21Speaker 1: To fight off against left handed pitcher Ian Laois, who's
- 53:25Speaker 1: own three was six eighteen era long horns will pitch.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Jared Spencer tonight two and one with a three thirteen ERA.
- 53:31Speaker 1: It's the first time these two teams have matt the
- 53:33Speaker 1: Tigers and Longhorns since twenty twelve the long Time Big
- 53:38Speaker 1: twelve four. They've faced off before, but it's over. It's
- 53:41Speaker 1: been over a decade now. This is one of the
- 53:44Speaker 1: best teams in baseball. In college baseball sixteen second week
- 53:48Speaker 1: long Wards have climbed the rankings. They move into four
- 53:51Speaker 1: different poles, highest number three in Baseball America, which is
- 53:56Speaker 1: my favorite pole. The long runs also are number five
- 53:58Speaker 1: and perfect Game and top twenty five in d win
- 54:02Speaker 1: Baseball as well as in the NCBWA. The Baseball writers
- 54:07Speaker 1: are American pol has them at number seven. Okay, we're
- 54:13Speaker 1: talking about it all day. It's how do you get
- 54:15Speaker 1: excited for games like this? And Schloston got asked, how
- 54:17Speaker 1: do you make sure your team is so locked in
- 54:19Speaker 1: even facing a team that's in the bottom of the
- 54:21Speaker 1: SEC standings.
- 54:23Speaker 11: I think it just goes back to you play to
- 54:24Speaker 11: a standard, not a scoreboard. And you hear our players
- 54:26Speaker 11: say that. I know it sounds coachy, but it really
- 54:28Speaker 11: is true. And I was really proud of the way
- 54:30Speaker 11: our guys came out Tuesday night. I thought we played
- 54:34Speaker 11: I mean, we didn't play well, but I thought we
- 54:35Speaker 11: played hard against Utsa.
- 54:37Speaker 4: I mean, you know, people think when if you lose,
- 54:41Speaker 4: if you lose the MIDWEK.
- 54:42Speaker 11: Game, or you lose to someone who somebody else tells
- 54:45Speaker 11: you that you're supposed to be better than they just
- 54:47Speaker 11: don't know baseball, you know. I mean, it's opening day
- 54:51Speaker 11: in the big leagues and the winning this team is
- 54:53Speaker 11: going to lose fifty games for sure. If they lose
- 54:57Speaker 11: just fifty, that's an unbelievable season. The the best teams
- 55:00Speaker 11: lose sixty seventy games. So it's never about the best
- 55:05Speaker 11: Team's about the team that plays the best. And you
- 55:07Speaker 11: have to go play well and if you don't play well,
- 55:09Speaker 11: you're going to lose. And so so yeah, I trust
- 55:13Speaker 11: our team, trust our leadership group, and we'll be ready
- 55:17Speaker 11: to go.
- 55:17Speaker 4: Whether we win or not or play well, I don't know,
- 55:19Speaker 4: but we'll be ready.
- 55:20Speaker 2: See that's big is it's the standard is the standard.
- 55:22Speaker 1: It's great that the Longhorns across the board men's women's
- 55:26Speaker 1: baseball football does not matter, are finally getting back to
- 55:30Speaker 1: that level of consistency.
- 55:32Speaker 2: The standard is a standard. I think that's huge.
- 55:35Speaker 1: I saw somebody the other day tweet that it's like
- 55:38Speaker 1: Mac and Augie are back on campus with sark and
- 55:41Speaker 1: slash nangle, And I tend to agree that when you
- 55:44Speaker 1: have coaches who have played at the highest level, coach
- 55:46Speaker 1: at the highest level and saw championships won, whether it
- 55:51Speaker 1: be them winning it or them as the opponent losing it,
- 55:54Speaker 1: I do think that that brings an extra level of
- 55:57Speaker 1: emphasis on the details. Think that brings an extra level
- 56:01Speaker 1: of emphasis on the things that matter most, which tends
- 56:05Speaker 1: to be pitching. And thank thankfully, the Long Words have
- 56:09Speaker 1: one of the best pitching coaches in college baseball, and
- 56:11Speaker 1: Max Wheer, what does he do to drive home to
- 56:16Speaker 1: this pitching staff to hit the zone?
- 56:19Speaker 11: Simplicity just makes it really simple for him. You're throwing
- 56:24Speaker 11: your best pitch to the best with its best shape,
- 56:27Speaker 11: to a location.
- 56:28Speaker 4: Everything has account.
- 56:30Speaker 11: There isn't a time they throw a bullpen where you're
- 56:33Speaker 11: just not standing out there saying, oh, this is my
- 56:35Speaker 11: fastball or this is my slider. It's one, oh slider
- 56:39Speaker 11: middle right. And and it's no secret, I think, and
- 56:43Speaker 11: there's other people have caught on and are doing it
- 56:46Speaker 11: where we just throw pitches to the middle of the
- 56:47Speaker 11: play and to the point where you know you may
- 56:51Speaker 11: give up some two hits or some you know which
- 56:53Speaker 11: is supposed to be some cardinals in baseball. But you know,
- 56:56Speaker 11: if you listen to Greg Maddocks, pitch is when you
- 56:58Speaker 11: have the hitter in the best scenario. And the more
- 57:00Speaker 11: pitches you throw, the more information they get. And so
- 57:05Speaker 11: that's why on the offensive side we like to see
- 57:07Speaker 11: pitches because the more pitches you see, the more information
- 57:09Speaker 11: you get, the better chance you have.
- 57:11Speaker 4: But Max is really good.
- 57:13Speaker 11: You can have all the sayings and processes you want.
- 57:17Speaker 11: It's not about what you know, it's about what you
- 57:18Speaker 11: can get the players to do. And he did that
- 57:21Speaker 11: in professional baseball all the way to the big leagues
- 57:23Speaker 11: with Seattle, and he did that for us at A
- 57:26Speaker 11: and M, and he's obviously doing it right now.
- 57:28Speaker 4: So and you got to give a players credit.
- 57:30Speaker 11: You know, they've not only bought in, but they're you know,
- 57:33Speaker 11: they've executed it to this point.
- 57:34Speaker 1: Yeah, that's big too, having the execution, having the guys
- 57:37Speaker 1: who can take that information, dissiminate that information right, to
- 57:41Speaker 1: understand it, to load it, to download it, and then
- 57:44Speaker 1: to do it. It's not easy to do. If it was,
- 57:48Speaker 1: everybody would be doing it. We'd have a bunch of
- 57:50Speaker 1: games that going to extra innings and the final scores
- 57:52Speaker 1: of these games are one nothing. That's not the case
- 57:54Speaker 1: in college baseball. To have a young pitching staff the
- 57:58Speaker 1: Longhorns have, and to have it coach like coach Wieners,
- 58:01Speaker 1: who can get all those guys on the same page.
- 58:05Speaker 1: I know it's lame to talk about it, to give
- 58:08Speaker 1: a pitching coach this much credit, but I say every
- 58:11Speaker 1: single time I talk about this team, the vibe shift
- 58:15Speaker 1: has been.
- 58:17Speaker 2: Enormous.
- 58:18Speaker 1: If you weren't around this team last year, if you
- 58:20Speaker 1: didn't cover this team last year, if you didn't watch
- 58:22Speaker 1: this team last year, then you don't know what I'm
- 58:25Speaker 1: talking about. But I'm trying to convey to you that
- 58:28Speaker 1: this team last year, at this time, it was a
- 58:31Speaker 1: completely different story. It was a completely different story. It
- 58:35Speaker 1: was a completely different vibe with the pitching staff and
- 58:38Speaker 1: how guys felt about it. I go into every single
- 58:41Speaker 1: weekend now in the SEC feeling very confident in the
- 58:46Speaker 1: Longhorn pitching staff, and I cannot tell you the last
- 58:48Speaker 1: time that that has happened. I cannot tell you the
- 58:51Speaker 1: last time that I felt this good about a Friday
- 58:54Speaker 1: Saturday Sunday starting group. But speaking of Sunday, still a TBD.
- 58:59Speaker 1: Who will be the starting pitcher? Shash got asked about
- 59:01Speaker 1: Max Rubbs, who had a very good Sunday against LSU.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Do you have thoughts about potentially starting him?
- 59:09Speaker 4: A million percent? I have thought about it.
- 59:11Speaker 11: I mean, I would love to be able to write
- 59:14Speaker 11: it in pen and just leave it right there, and
- 59:16Speaker 11: maybe we get to a point in the season where
- 59:18Speaker 11: we can do that.
- 59:19Speaker 4: I think a guy like Jason.
- 59:20Speaker 11: Flores is capable of maybe jumping in that role where
- 59:25Speaker 11: Rudert and Max as a as a reliever, But right
- 59:30Speaker 11: now I don't think we're there yet in my mind.
- 59:33Speaker 11: So when we have a chance to win the games
- 59:35Speaker 11: and we'll use Ruger if we need to otherwise, hear Max,
- 59:38Speaker 11: both of them could start on Sundays.
- 59:40Speaker 1: There's a lot of good pictures and you got to
- 59:42Speaker 1: kind of think about the mindset too, when it comes
- 59:44Speaker 1: to who's going to be that Sunday pitcher.
- 59:46Speaker 2: When you have two.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Guys who are locked in as your starters consistently and
- 59:51Speaker 1: Jared Spencer and Luke Harrison, When you have those guys
- 59:53Speaker 1: locked in essentially at your Friday Saturday to have the
- 59:57Speaker 1: ability on a Sunday to you who's a bunch of
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: different guys to piecemail it together?
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: And it's an important thing.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: And also you have to think that this team in particular,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: like I said, this is a very different baseball team
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: than years prior. This is a team that's trying to
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: win the SEC. This is the team that's trying to
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: win at Omaha. I want to know who can pitch
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: in what situations and if that means against Missouri, a
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: team that's zero to six in conference play, that I
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: get to figure out who that Sunday starter is, and
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: do I figure out if I have a third starter
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: that I can throw come tournament time, come Omaha time.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I'm okay with that. I'm okay with figuring it out
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: against a team like Missouri versus trying to figure it
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: out next weekend against a team like Georgia. Okay, longtime
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Longhorn fans know about Eathan Mendoza transferred to the forty
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Acres from Arizona State. Over his first twenty three games,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: he's posting a four hundred and five to ten six
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: forty two slash line. He's averaging his ties eighth among
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: SEC players. He's tied for fourth with home runs this season.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: He's on a fourteen game hitch streak. He's doing everything
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: that you could ask. He's also hitting near the top
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: of the lineup or at the top of the lineup.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: How good has he been in this order?
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: A million percent? I've thought about it.
- 1:01:26Speaker 11: I mean, I would love Yeah, he's he's been awesome.
- 1:01:31Speaker 11: He's butt into everything that we've asked him to do
- 1:01:33Speaker 11: since he came here. We had long, long conversations in
- 1:01:37Speaker 11: the fall about what his skill set was and how
- 1:01:40Speaker 11: I felt like in our offense, if he would trust it,
- 1:01:43Speaker 11: how he could go to a completely different level and
- 1:01:46Speaker 11: get stronger. The greatest skill he has on offense is
- 1:01:51Speaker 11: that when he swings, he hits the ball, which can
- 1:01:54Speaker 11: be a bad thing if you don't swing at the
- 1:01:55Speaker 11: right pitches.
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: And so he's taken to that.
- 1:01:59Speaker 11: We made him take a strike off fall just to
- 1:02:01Speaker 11: learn how to see pitches and learn that he could
- 1:02:03Speaker 11: trust himself and with especially hitting with two strikes. And
- 1:02:07Speaker 11: so he's really he's taken that as a kind of
- 1:02:09Speaker 11: a badge of honor and really taking it.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: Next level Longhorns play the Missouri Tigers tonight from Columbia, Missouri,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: six pm. First pitch on one O three one. Andrew
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Zim will sitting in for Craig Way when we come back.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Vick Schaeffer spoke to the media today gearing you up
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: for the Sweet sixteen matchup tomorrow. Here right here on
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: the Zone, andrews Im will fill in for Craig on
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
- 1:02:38Speaker 8: We welcome back to the Craig Way Show and the
- 1:02:40Speaker 8: voice of the Longhorns. Craig Way. Follow Craig on social
- 1:02:44Speaker 8: media at Horn Boys.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Of course, Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Andrews I
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: will hanging out with you this Friday afternoon, getting you
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: excited for the weekend Sweet sixteen action happening this week
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: and on the Zone as the Texas Long Worn women's
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: basketball team takes on the Lady Bols that is tomorrow
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: at two thirty airtime two fifteen, Craigway will be on
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: the call. Game happening actually just wrapped up. Number two
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: seeded Duke beats number three seeded North Carolina on the
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: women's side of things, forty seven to thirty eight. That
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: is the Birmingham region as well. Reagion two to be
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: specific later today and about thirty minutes, one seed in
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: South Carolina will take on four seeded Maryland, also in
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: of course, the Birmingham region. So Vic Shaeffer spoke to
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: the media today, Actually, I want to one more thing
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: because Craig gives me grief because I'm doing a Rodney
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Dangerfield impression and maybe I'm putting bulletin war material on
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: for Vic Shaeffer and his team. But every day there's
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: another article written about the women's basketball tournament, and every
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: day I find myself pulling the few hairs I have
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: left out because it seems like the Texas Longhorns just
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: go under the radar, and I don't understand why. I
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Non Longhorn fans will look at me and say I'm crazy.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: They'll be like, you are the number one team in America.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: At one point, you are a one seed in the tournament.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: It does not matter that all of these different publications
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: are not writing about you.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: But think about this.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: Roy Harmon got asked at least I'm going to ballpark
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: it ten times in the last two days after the
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Juju Watkins injury, where she tears her ACL again, superstar
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: player for USC. It's a tragedy what happened to her.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: But Rory Harmon to here her ACL and was able
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: to come back from it. And there's a lot of
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: people asking her about her ACL injury now nationally, But
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: there was no conversation about this at the beginning of
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: the season. It seems like like I went back and
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: looked and nobody was writing articles about this recovery process
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: or how she came back or anything else like that.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: But because Juju, a player that everybody wants to talk about,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: national league gets hurt. Now a Longhorn player gets pulled
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: into the conversation. And then I see this story today
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: from ESPN about ranking the twenty five best players left
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: in the Sweet sixteen. Okay, and I think to myself
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: that the Longhorns are the one seed and they are
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: a I think fifth place right now when you look
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: at sports books to win the whole thing, which is fine.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: I'll take the fifth best odds going into the sweet sixteen.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: I'm not super worried about that. But Massive Booker was
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: number six, the SEC player of the Year, didn't make
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: the top ten. When it comes to players left in
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: the tournament again, pulling my hair out a little confused
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: by that. I like Sarah Strang, who is number five
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: on this list. She's a freshman for Yukon. She is
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: a very good player, and she plays next two page backers,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: who announced today that she will be going into the
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: WNBA draft at the end of the season and she
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: will mostly be the number one overall pick.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: But how is it that.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: There are no other Longhorns on the list? How is
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: it that there are twenty five of the best players
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: left in the NCAA tournament and there's only one Longhorn.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: It doesn't It doesn't make a ton of sense to me.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: And I said, our Prince is very good for TCU,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: so very good post presence. She's played a bajillion years
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: of college basketball at this point, due to injuries and
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: COVID red shirts and everything else like that. I just
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: think that Taylor Jones is pretty good too. And when
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: she played Tennessee the last time these two teams played,
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: she was a double double machine. I just again, the
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: disrespect is very, very loud when it comes to the
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Texas long runs, and I don't understand why. Okay, we'll
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: hear from Vick Shaffer, let's hear from him. Shaeffer started
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: off his introductory press conference talking about Tennessee and getting
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: us ready for tomorrow matchup.
- 1:07:01Speaker 12: So just going into this game again, really honored to
- 1:07:05Speaker 12: be a part of the NCAA tournament. But even added
- 1:07:10Speaker 12: to that is the opportunity to be in a game
- 1:07:13Speaker 12: with another program like the University of Texas and Tennessee
- 1:07:18Speaker 12: that's so rich in tradition, the history of the game,
- 1:07:25Speaker 12: happened so much in Knoxville and in Austin alike, and
- 1:07:30Speaker 12: I'm just honored to again have the opportunity to not
- 1:07:33Speaker 12: only be in the NCAA Tournament, but.
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: To be involved in a game with them.
- 1:07:40Speaker 12: Kim's done and coach Cabell's done an incredible job with
- 1:07:43Speaker 12: that team this year.
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: They're really good.
- 1:07:48Speaker 12: They could easily have won twelve or thirteen in our league.
- 1:07:53Speaker 12: We're in just about every game all year long. They've
- 1:07:57Speaker 12: had too great you know, one of two of their
- 1:08:00Speaker 12: better wins obviously against Connecticut and Ohio State last week.
- 1:08:03Speaker 12: You don't do that by accident, and uh she obviously
- 1:08:08Speaker 12: is has brought a lot of attention to the game,
- 1:08:11Speaker 12: not only with their success but how they've done it,
- 1:08:13Speaker 12: and they've done it really, really well. And Uh it's
- 1:08:18Speaker 12: a credit to her and her staff and her players
- 1:08:20Speaker 12: because they they play extremely hard. They're tough, and so
- 1:08:26Speaker 12: we're gonna have to play really well uh tomorrow.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: Proud of my team.
- 1:08:31Speaker 12: It's not easy to be thirty three and three coming
- 1:08:34Speaker 12: out of the Southeastern Conference to have played I guess,
- 1:08:38Speaker 12: the second best schedule behind South Carolina as far as
- 1:08:41Speaker 12: the net goes.
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: So I'm awfully proud of my group.
- 1:08:46Speaker 12: But we're gonna have to obviously be ready to go
- 1:08:48Speaker 12: tomorrow and and take care of the ball. It'll be
- 1:08:51Speaker 12: a it'll be a guard or any game on one end,
- 1:08:55Speaker 12: and then when you get on the other, you've you've
- 1:08:57Speaker 12: got to have all five involved and play in really well.
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: You got to take care of the ball.
- 1:09:02Speaker 12: You got to realize they basically have five players at
- 1:09:04Speaker 12: average double figures, and so we'll have to be real
- 1:09:09Speaker 12: attentive to that and really focused. We obviously had a
- 1:09:12Speaker 12: knockdown drag out at our place earlier in the year.
- 1:09:16Speaker 12: We were kind of running on fumes that week. We
- 1:09:18Speaker 12: had already played Maryland on that Monday on Martin Luther
- 1:09:21Speaker 12: King Day. We had to come home and play them
- 1:09:23Speaker 12: on Thursday. We were in the midst of a let's
- 1:09:26Speaker 12: see if I can remember Sunday, Thursday, Monday, Thursday Sunday
- 1:09:30Speaker 12: stretch and really had a tough game with them. Could
- 1:09:35Speaker 12: have gone either way. So I'm sure they're confident going
- 1:09:38Speaker 12: into the game rightfully. So I think our kids are
- 1:09:41Speaker 12: ready to go. And again, somebody that's been around and
- 1:09:47Speaker 12: seen a lot in the game, Coach Caldwell's done an
- 1:09:51Speaker 12: incredible job getting that thing turned around really quick, and
- 1:09:55Speaker 12: you have to give her and her kids a lot
- 1:09:57Speaker 12: of credit for that.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Andrews that will fill in for Craigway this Friday afternoon
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: when we come back, we'll hear more from Vic Schaeffer
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: and his team about how playing Tennessee earlier this season
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: will help them. On Saturday two Tip two fifteen airtime
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: on the Zone, Craigway will be on the call Sweet
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: sixteen basketball on kb or Kate on the Zone.
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: When we come back.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: More of The Craigway Show as we continue to roll
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: on a Friday on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Andrews and We'll
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: hang out with you as we wrap up our number four,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: Number four, our number two of the Craigway Show. You
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: can tell it's a Friday as we move along. So
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: we were hearing from a head coach Vick Schaeffer and
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: his team as a media availability earlier today as they
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: gear up for a game tomorrow in the Sweet sixteen. Now,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: Vic Shaeffer got asked about does it help that you
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: played Tennessee before? You got to remember back that the
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: Longhorns faced off against Tennessee earlier this season in January.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: It was a four point game. It was a big
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: match against Tennessee at the Movie Center, and they played
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: him on a Thursday, coming off of a Monday matchup
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: against at the time number eight ranked Maryland. Texas got
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: the job done against Maryland in New Jersey. It was
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: eighty nine to fifty one that game. But Shaeffer talks
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: about how that win on Monday might have affected how
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: his team played the following Thursday.
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: For sure, it was, though it just seemed so long ago.
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: You know, it's.
- 1:11:48Speaker 12: It's over, you know, a month and a half ago,
- 1:11:50Speaker 12: I think, And so it's been a while. Looks like
- 1:11:55Speaker 12: it was like on January twenty third or something like
- 1:11:58Speaker 12: that twenty first. So it's a long time ago, two
- 1:12:00Speaker 12: months ago. But I do think you know, when you
- 1:12:03Speaker 12: get in the NCAA tournament, you think, okay, man, thank goodness,
- 1:12:06Speaker 12: you get out of the SEC and you don't have
- 1:12:08Speaker 12: to go against you know, those people, because you have
- 1:12:11Speaker 12: so much respect and admiration for everybody in our league.
- 1:12:14Speaker 12: And then you know, these things happen. I mean, they
- 1:12:18Speaker 12: go into Ohio State and they thumped them. I mean
- 1:12:20Speaker 12: they played really good. These kids play so hard, so
- 1:12:25Speaker 12: it's this is what happens. And so you know, I'm
- 1:12:30Speaker 12: sure they'll have a great crowd. They're a little bit
- 1:12:32Speaker 12: closer to Knoxville here than we are at Austin.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: So had coach Vick Shaffer talking about the matchup between
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Tennessee and Texas this weekend two thirty tip right here
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: on the zone now, Taylor Jones got asked, what do
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: you remember about the last time you played this team.
- 1:12:51Speaker 13: I remember it was a very fast paced game. They
- 1:12:56Speaker 13: subbed a lot, and I think we got a lot
- 1:13:00Speaker 13: of O boards, That's what I remember. And I think
- 1:13:04Speaker 13: just always mentally having to be engaged because how many
- 1:13:09Speaker 13: subs that they have and just how fast the game
- 1:13:12Speaker 13: is you can't have any mental laps or they'll take
- 1:13:14Speaker 13: advantage of it. I think crashing the boards, I think
- 1:13:18Speaker 13: that we did a good job at getting rebounds and
- 1:13:21Speaker 13: keeping them off the boards. They're very they have height,
- 1:13:24Speaker 13: they're really athletic, and they get to the boards quite
- 1:13:27Speaker 13: a bit, and so making sure that we block them
- 1:13:29Speaker 13: out and doing our job getting to the rebounds is
- 1:13:33Speaker 13: for the posts especially, but for the guards and all
- 1:13:37Speaker 13: of us as a whole, breaking their press. They forty
- 1:13:40Speaker 13: minute in your face defense and defense and to the
- 1:13:44Speaker 13: last two practices we've done a really good job. I
- 1:13:47Speaker 13: think playing against our guys and learning to play at
- 1:13:51Speaker 13: our pace and not let them speed us up.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: Also, transition to will be key. But I'm confident.
- 1:13:58Speaker 13: In our team that I'm excited for them for the rematch.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: So those are two things.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: The long word is need to do cut down the
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: turnovers and crash the boards. Those are big, big deciding
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: factors on how Saturday's game is going to go. Now
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: Shaffer got asked that coach Big Shaffer got asked about
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: having a team that is a little bit older and
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: that experience. What does that mean for your team and
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: how having an older team might be able to help
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: you in the tournament.
- 1:14:32Speaker 12: Yeah, you know, those kids, You're right, they've they've got
- 1:14:36Speaker 12: a lot of mileage, a lot of.
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: Wins, you know.
- 1:14:39Speaker 12: And again it's it's one of the things that for me,
- 1:14:44Speaker 12: I just you know, I want it so bad for
- 1:14:46Speaker 12: those kids.
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: You want it so.
- 1:14:47Speaker 12: Bad for for them, if you know this time of year,
- 1:14:52Speaker 12: it could be and so it's it's nice to have
- 1:14:56Speaker 12: a veteran group like that, you know on the floor
- 1:15:00Speaker 12: or they've been there. I think they're unphased, they're unflappable,
- 1:15:05Speaker 12: and so it's you know, again, tomorrow is going to
- 1:15:09Speaker 12: be really important that we take care of the ball.
- 1:15:11Speaker 12: At that twelve turn them, I think only two of
- 1:15:13Speaker 12: them were directly result of the press. So we're gonna
- 1:15:18Speaker 12: take care of take care of the ball. And two
- 1:15:20Speaker 12: of those names you just mentioned are veteran guards.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: Now one of those veteran guards is Shaye Holly, who
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: got to asked a similar question about how being an
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: older team helps in this type of tournament.
- 1:15:31Speaker 14: I think being older, you know, Taylor said this her
- 1:15:34Speaker 14: sixth year. This is my fifth year. You know, I
- 1:15:37Speaker 14: think it just gives you a certain level of confidence.
- 1:15:40Speaker 14: My dad always told me growing up, Like you get
- 1:15:42Speaker 14: confidence from your preparation. You know, when you don't do
- 1:15:45Speaker 14: the preparation, and that's when you get nervous and a
- 1:15:47Speaker 14: little stressed out. So when you do the prep, you
- 1:15:49Speaker 14: feel good in those moments. And I think we've had
- 1:15:52Speaker 14: a lot of prep obviously being older, and I think
- 1:15:56Speaker 14: it's just being in those moments before and knowing how
- 1:15:59Speaker 14: you handle it and how you can learn from maybe
- 1:16:01Speaker 14: moments you didn't handle it the way you wanted to
- 1:16:05Speaker 14: and just learning from that. And yeah, it just gives
- 1:16:07Speaker 14: you a certain level of like comfort, I think, and
- 1:16:09Speaker 14: pressure moments.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: And speaking of pressure, it's good to have a player
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: like Rory Harmon on your team. And Shaff spoke about
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: his relationship with his point guard.
- 1:16:20Speaker 12: Yeah, you know, well I have to see my man
- 1:16:23Speaker 12: here is from I bet. I was on the school
- 1:16:26Speaker 12: playing a bunch, flying to Houston to see her play
- 1:16:30Speaker 12: when I was coaching there and recruiting her, and you
- 1:16:35Speaker 12: know she's somebody obviously that there were three really good
- 1:16:40Speaker 12: guards that came out that year, and you know, Raven
- 1:16:43Speaker 12: at South Carolina and Rory and I just you know,
- 1:16:49Speaker 12: we were in dire need of a great We knew
- 1:16:52Speaker 12: who we were graduating and all that, and obviously when
- 1:16:55Speaker 12: I got to Austin, Rory, being two and a half
- 1:16:58Speaker 12: hours from campus, he was my, you know.
- 1:17:01Speaker 5: Our top priority.
- 1:17:02Speaker 12: We had to try to hold on to Eleiah Moore,
- 1:17:05Speaker 12: who had already committed, and then we really had to
- 1:17:07Speaker 12: go get Rory.
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: You know, when you're building a program, it starts with your.
- 1:17:11Speaker 12: Point guard, and you know, that was the one I
- 1:17:14Speaker 12: felt like. Being two and a half hours from home,
- 1:17:17Speaker 12: you know, we had a great opportunity to get and
- 1:17:19Speaker 12: needed to get. And as you know, when you're at
- 1:17:22Speaker 12: the University of Texas, you try to close the borders
- 1:17:25Speaker 12: and close the walls and keep the good ones in
- 1:17:27Speaker 12: the state. And in my mind, she was one of
- 1:17:31Speaker 12: the best in the country, if not the best.
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: And so.
- 1:17:35Speaker 12: You know, I knew Raven was closer to South Carolina,
- 1:17:37Speaker 12: and I knew they were recruiting her. I had been
- 1:17:40Speaker 12: to her games as well, but Rory was the one
- 1:17:43Speaker 12: in my mind.
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: Once we got to Austin we had to really focus on.
- 1:17:46Speaker 12: And boy, she's not disappointed a lick. I mean, you're
- 1:17:50Speaker 12: talking about a kid that scored almost thirteen hundred points
- 1:17:54Speaker 12: over seven hundred assists, the only player in the history
- 1:17:59Speaker 12: of our universe, in our storied history to do that,
- 1:18:03Speaker 12: and could potentially have another year to really separate herself,
- 1:18:08Speaker 12: to be at a point where no one will ever
- 1:18:10Speaker 12: catch her again.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: So Thiss Radio Am thirteen hundred The Zone Andrews Zim
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: We'll hanging out with you on a feel good Friday
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: edition of The Craigway Show as we gear you up
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: for a weekend jam packed with Longhorn action. That is
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: right Sweet sixteen for the women's basketball team tomorrow to
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: fifteen airtime twoint thirty tip on one oh three or
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: a correction on the zone. Right here, you can hear
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: that game tonight, first pitch, six pm. Keith Moreland and
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: Roger Wallace on the call as the UT baseball team
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: goes to Columbia, Missouri take on the Tigers. That game,
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: first pitch, six pm. That game is on one oh
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: three one Yesterday, Little Men's NCAA Sweet sixteen action. Number
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: one seed Florida beats number four seed Maryland eighty seven
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: to seventy one. Duke and Cooper Flagg. Boy did they perform?
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: Flag thirty points, six rebounds, seven assists. Caleb Love did
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: everything he could to keep his Wildcats in it. They
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: fall to the one seed Duke Blue Devils one hundred
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: and ninety three. It was a good one between Alabama
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: and BYU one thirteen to eighty eight. In fact, if
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: the Crimson Tide did not score a single bucket inside
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: the three point arc, they still would have won. That
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: is your stat of the day. And then Texas Tech
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: upsets Arkansas. Arkansas is a huge lead in the first half,
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: can't hold onto it, beats the Razorbacks eighty five, two
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: eighty three, and it was one of the worst losses
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: that I can remember from a kla Pari run team
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: since the last bad loss a Calipari run team has had.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: He seems like the type of coach now that at
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: Kentucky he had all of the talent in the world.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: He had continued to put NBA players into the league
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: but never could cut down the nets. He won the
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: championship in twenty twelve with that Anthony Davis led team,
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: but it has been a while since they have been back.
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: Now he moves over to Arkansas and in year number one,
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: very turbulent, very up and down. They had a lead
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: that couldn't hold onto the lead. Coli Party got asked
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: after the game during the press conference why his team
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: dried up.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: Why do you think you guys drive up a little
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: bit scoring in the last few minutes.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: Well, we had we missed a shot and we kicked
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: it out and there was a new shot clock and
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: we shot.
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: At three, which again.
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: We had open shots, tried to drive and took tough shots.
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: We had a couple of those.
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: But to be honest with you, you know, I'll have
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: to think back, but we were trying to run things
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: to maybe drive the ball more.
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: That's what we were doing.
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: And when we did drive it, we looked pretty good.
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it looked really good. Could not finish.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: They led in almost every single statistical statistical category except
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: for the one that matters most, that final result, that
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: final box score. So now Florida and Texas Tech get
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: ready to face off in the Elite Eight. Other Elite
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: eight games happening as well tomorrow and today your slate
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: of games Old Miss and Michigan States. We heard tom
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: Izzo yesterday talking about that transfer portal. This is a
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: matchup between two of the best coaches in college basketball,
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: between Chris Beard and Tom Izzou. Kentucky and Tennessee a
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: matchup between two SEC schools, The number one seeded Auburn
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: Tigers take on five seeded Michigan, and then tonight the
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: nightcap nine pm tip off on TBS and True TV Houston,
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: the one seed versus the Produce boiler Makers, and we
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: get We're gearing closer and closer. I don't know how
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: many brackets are still left. I don't know if you
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: guys have completely shredded yours yet or not, but it
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: is it's getting pretty close to being complete mess. I
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: was making the point earlier today that if you picked
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: Chalk at this point, there's a lot of one seeds left.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: There's a lot of two seeds left in this Elite
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: eight coming up, and if you pick Chalk, your bracket
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: is probably safer than some of us who were picking
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: some upsets earlier in the tournament. Well, today was a
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: media availability for the Texas Longhorned Women as they gear
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: up for their Sweet sixteen matchup against the Lady Bowls.
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: Craig Way was there. He asked this question to Shay
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: Holly and Taylor Jones.
- 1:22:43Speaker 15: Craig Way, Longward Radio Network. This is mainly for Shay
- 1:22:46Speaker 15: and Taylor. I wanted to get your thoughts. So do
- 1:22:48Speaker 15: you get to this point where you know you have
- 1:22:52Speaker 15: a finite number of practices and games and stuff, like,
- 1:22:55Speaker 15: what does it roll through your mind? Like when you
- 1:22:57Speaker 15: go out on the practice I have, you know, just
- 1:22:59Speaker 15: spending more practices this, many more games as long worn.
- 1:23:03Speaker 14: Yeah, it definitely does. I almost like I'll like go
- 1:23:06Speaker 14: into a practice not necessarily thinking about it, but at
- 1:23:09Speaker 14: some point I'll just be like, whoa, this is probably
- 1:23:11Speaker 14: like maybe one of my last times doing this or that.
- 1:23:14Speaker 14: And me and Taylor were talking about it last night
- 1:23:16Speaker 14: at dinner and she like counted in. I think we're
- 1:23:19Speaker 14: at like nine or ten days of like that's our max,
- 1:23:22Speaker 14: you know, if we go all the way, which is
- 1:23:25Speaker 14: just like crazy to think about. You spend so much
- 1:23:27Speaker 14: time doing one thing and you love it, and so
- 1:23:30Speaker 14: you definitely think about it. And then you know, I've
- 1:23:32Speaker 14: said this before, like maybe it makes a drill you
- 1:23:35Speaker 14: don't like that much, not so bad anymore, you know,
- 1:23:37Speaker 14: like you just want to soak it all in and
- 1:23:39Speaker 14: enjoy every moment.
- 1:23:41Speaker 13: Really, I didn't really think about it much until our
- 1:23:47Speaker 13: last game in Moody and then we had our potentially
- 1:23:51Speaker 13: last practice in Moody and I just think that that's
- 1:23:56Speaker 13: when it started to set in. And yesterday at dinner,
- 1:23:58Speaker 13: like Chase said, we just started talking about how close
- 1:24:02Speaker 13: the end is, and it's it's crazy to think. I mean,
- 1:24:06Speaker 13: I've been going at it for my six year now,
- 1:24:08Speaker 13: so been in the game a while, in the college
- 1:24:11Speaker 13: basketball game, and so it's it's a new a new feeling.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Andrews Zim will in studio with you this afternoon as
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: we gear up for a matchup between two of the
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: best teams in the SEC, the Texas Longhorns and the
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: Tennessee Lady Bowls. That game tomorrow two fifteen. Pre game
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: two thirty tip on the zone. Bruce Pearl, the number
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: one seed Alburn Tigers. He spoke a little earlier. He
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: spoke earlier today as as well.
- 1:24:42Speaker 16: Because I was also on the nabcit committee for trying
- 1:24:47Speaker 16: to figure out when the best time to open the portal.
- 1:24:51Speaker 16: I'm glad that the portal has gone from forty five
- 1:24:53Speaker 16: days to the forty five thirty days because I think
- 1:24:55Speaker 16: thirty days is enough time for those guys to decide
- 1:24:57Speaker 16: where they want to stay, they like where they want
- 1:24:59Speaker 16: to go, and I think the reason for the timing
- 1:25:02Speaker 16: of doing it prior just after the Sweet sixteen is
- 1:25:06Speaker 16: almost all the all the teams in the country except
- 1:25:10Speaker 16: sexIf sixteen teams, this season's over. And so if you're
- 1:25:15Speaker 16: a student, if you're a student athlete and you're at
- 1:25:18Speaker 16: another deviate and you're at another Visual one institution and
- 1:25:23Speaker 16: your season was over at the beginning of March, you're
- 1:25:26Speaker 16: supposed to have to wait three or four weeks until
- 1:25:28Speaker 16: the Final Four is over before you can move on
- 1:25:30Speaker 16: with the rest of your life. So I think the
- 1:25:33Speaker 16: national Associated Basketball coaches kind of looked at it and said, Hey,
- 1:25:35Speaker 16: what what might be best for all the student athletes,
- 1:25:39Speaker 16: all the students. We decided to kind of do it
- 1:25:41Speaker 16: at this window. Yeah, it's a little inconvenient for sixteen teams,
- 1:25:45Speaker 16: but these other student athletes need to be able to
- 1:25:48Speaker 16: figure out what's going on for the rest of them.
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: It's a little inconvenient. That's Bruce Pearl, the head coach
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: of the number one seed Auburn Tiger's talking about that
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: transfer portal, and it feels like a zag, an intentional
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: zag against Tom Izzo, who went on a eight minute
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: rant about the transfer portal and how it was ruining
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: College Athletics and ruining his team. I feel like there
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: is a little bit of malice in Bruce Pearls words
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: of wisdom. However, he does make a good case for
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: the opposition to it. I spoke at length yesterday about
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: how the transfer portal opening during the NCUBA tournament during
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: the postseason is just dumb.
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: It doesn't make sense.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: Why would you allow players to move around while the
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: championship is still hanging in the balance. Just relax, There
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: will be time. There's a lot of time to move
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: after the tournament is done. But Bruce Pearl says, you
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: know what, there's thousands of athletes, there's hundreds of teams
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: who didn't make a postseason tournament, who aren't playing in
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: the NCUBA tournament. So allow those players to move freely.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: I will say this, though we talk about how there
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: aren't any upsets, people are blaming the transfer portal and nil.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: I'll tell you what's going to cause a real upset
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: is some of these blue bloods who consistently make it
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: to the NCAA tournament who start losing players during the tournament.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: That will be the end of this open window for
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: the transfer portal. I can promise you promise you that
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: that will be the end of a free movement of
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: players and everything else. Now, finally I said, we're gonna
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: talk a little baseball. Yesterday was Opening Day and there
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: was a lot of great calls. We talked earlier today
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: about Austin Wells, who let off the Yankees game with
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: a home run. Is the first Yankee to have a
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: leadoff home run in Opening Day. Right got him on
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: the board early. The Yankees ended up winning four to
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: two against the Brewers. We could listen to a little
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: bit of the Red Sox, who beat the Texas Rangers
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: five to yesterday and Opening Day. But I want to
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: play this San Francisco Giants at the Cincinnati Reds. This
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: was the final out in a Red's loss.
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: H Do I feel indeed to ball this game is over?
- 1:28:09Speaker 11: Well, you might as well start out to season with
- 1:28:12Speaker 11: just a little bit of torture.
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: Ah, yes, just a little bit of torture as the
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: Cincinnati Reds come maybe about ten feet short of walking
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: off the San Francisco Giants. Instead, what would have been
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: a home run ends up being a long fly ball.
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: We hope we don't see a lot of those tonight
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: in Columbia, Missouri, as the Texas Longhorns and Missouri Tigers
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: do battle on the Diamond first pitch six pm at
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: one o three one. Roger Wallace will be on the
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: call as well as Keith Morland. We will check in
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: with them next coming up on the Craigway Show on
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Sports Radio AM
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: thirteen hundred The Zone. Andrew Zim will in studio hanging
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: out with you this Friday. And in Columbia, Missouri, it
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: is Roger Wallace who gears us up or the big
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: matchup tonight is the number one on one of the
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: best teams, I should say in college baseball. The Texas
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: long Horns get ready to take on Missouri and Roger.
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: What's the weather like down there?
- 1:29:11Speaker 7: Hey, Andrew?
- 1:29:12Speaker 17: Alongside Keith Morland. Well, it's you know, I talked to
- 1:29:15Speaker 17: Jim Slasnagel. I said, you look at this schedule and
- 1:29:17Speaker 17: you see a trip to Columbia, Missouri in March, and
- 1:29:20Speaker 17: you could have a myriad of conditions, all in all
- 1:29:24Speaker 17: pretty good, except Keith.
- 1:29:26Speaker 7: Seems like the wind.
- 1:29:27Speaker 17: Just follows this club because it is howling and it
- 1:29:29Speaker 17: seems like it's going in several different directions.
- 1:29:31Speaker 7: Yeah, you watched the Missoo take their pre game.
- 1:29:34Speaker 18: They spend a lot of time on a machine hitting
- 1:29:36Speaker 18: fly balls and guys trying to figure out how to
- 1:29:39Speaker 18: catch them. It's swirling, it's going from a couple of
- 1:29:41Speaker 18: different directions, but it's in the excess of twenty five
- 1:29:44Speaker 18: miles an hour.
- 1:29:45Speaker 17: Yeah, and Andrew, the fly ball things a real thing.
- 1:29:47Speaker 17: We've seen over and over this year where routine fly
- 1:29:51Speaker 17: balls just turn into adventures and nothing more than when
- 1:29:54Speaker 17: we were in Las Vegas together. But again, that's gonna
- 1:29:57Speaker 17: certainly be a factor here in in Columbia.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: I was going to say, you know, you schedule those
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: preseason games or those games that are non conference games
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: and you hope to learn something, Well, maybe you learn
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: how to play the wind.
- 1:30:09Speaker 17: Right, Well, they they work on it, but it's it's
- 1:30:12Speaker 17: a real thing. And Uh, In fact, when we were
- 1:30:15Speaker 17: in in Vegas, Jim Schwassneingal spent more time with the
- 1:30:19Speaker 17: with the machine using pop ups and he did with uh,
- 1:30:22Speaker 17: you know, with hitting ground balls and.
- 1:30:23Speaker 7: Stuff because it was it was such an issue.
- 1:30:25Speaker 17: And you you you played your share of outfield. What's
- 1:30:27Speaker 17: it what's it like when you're dealing with conditions.
- 1:30:29Speaker 18: Well, it changes moment moment to moments, so you've got
- 1:30:33Speaker 18: to make sure that you understand you're always looking to
- 1:30:35Speaker 18: see where the flags are doing, and it's going to
- 1:30:37Speaker 18: be a major factor. And the other part of that,
- 1:30:40Speaker 18: the last thing is sometimes it's it blows so hard
- 1:30:43Speaker 18: that it makes it very difficult for pitchers to get
- 1:30:45Speaker 18: their balance and and throw enough strikes and then all
- 1:30:48Speaker 18: of a sudden you throw in fly balls at fall in.
- 1:30:51Speaker 18: I expect runs to be scored tonight. I guess that's
- 1:30:54Speaker 18: the best way to put it.
- 1:30:54Speaker 17: Yeah, Andrew that that this is gonna be a night
- 1:30:56Speaker 17: where a pitcher can't hang their head if if ball
- 1:30:59Speaker 17: goes out of the ballpark. And uh, you know, we
- 1:31:01Speaker 17: saw it in that LSU game last Friday night. The
- 1:31:03Speaker 17: first batter of the game just hits a pop fly
- 1:31:06Speaker 17: home run. Uh and from there it seemed to is
- 1:31:09Speaker 17: that LC or was that UTSA, But it was just
- 1:31:12Speaker 17: the first batter of the game hits a pop fly.
- 1:31:14Speaker 17: It was UTSA because it was a Tuesday, and it
- 1:31:16Speaker 17: seemed to really get Drew Rehrick's head and you just
- 1:31:18Speaker 17: got to be careful as a pitcher.
- 1:31:20Speaker 18: Uh that you don't let that bother you. You know, one's
- 1:31:22Speaker 18: not gonna beat you tonight. That's what you're looking at.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: I was gonna say, and this is a good night
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: for the power hitters for Texas mac Falu. I mean
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: we might see like a team measure shot tonight. Well,
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: these guys are capable of it. Yeah, I would.
- 1:31:35Speaker 17: I would venture to say the better chance for tape
- 1:31:38Speaker 17: measure would be a Galvaan or a gas Perino, because
- 1:31:41Speaker 17: if you get one up in the jet stream going
- 1:31:43Speaker 17: to left field, it may just go and go.
- 1:31:48Speaker 18: Yeah, there's a workout surface, a grass surface for the
- 1:31:52Speaker 18: uh Missoo Missoo football team right outside the left field
- 1:31:58Speaker 18: area where the bullpen is for Missouri. But I can
- 1:32:01Speaker 18: tell you that we could see one go through that
- 1:32:03Speaker 18: goalpost tonight and that that that's about four hundred and
- 1:32:05Speaker 18: fifty feet.
- 1:32:06Speaker 7: Away, Andrew.
- 1:32:06Speaker 17: The other thing is this is the one park in
- 1:32:08Speaker 17: the SEC Jim Slowsni was not coached in. And there's
- 1:32:12Speaker 17: another factor here that's a little bit different. It's a
- 1:32:14Speaker 17: it's a bouncy turf infield, but it's a grass outfield.
- 1:32:17Speaker 17: So that's that's a little different than a lot of ballparks.
- 1:32:21Speaker 17: Obviously you see that in the Midwest in this part
- 1:32:23Speaker 17: of the country. I remember when I was in Wichita
- 1:32:25Speaker 17: that was the case, not only Wichita State, but also
- 1:32:28Speaker 17: at the minor league park there in Wichita.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: Which is a good segue into the conversations we had
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: this week in Austin guys with like, Hey, what is
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: the plan for the warning track? What is the plan
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: for the turf in Texas? What'd you guys think about that?
- 1:32:42Speaker 18: Well, I the one thing that's very difficult to to
- 1:32:45Speaker 18: everybody to needs to understand is the fact is that
- 1:32:48Speaker 18: it's it's very expensive, not necessarily to change over that
- 1:32:53Speaker 18: it's it's actually cheaper than putting new turf in to change.
- 1:32:56Speaker 7: Over to grass.
- 1:32:57Speaker 18: But the problem with it is, all of a sudden
- 1:32:59Speaker 18: you've got to have a full time staff year round
- 1:33:02Speaker 18: to maintain the surface and the playing surface and that
- 1:33:05Speaker 18: kind of thing.
- 1:33:06Speaker 7: So it's quite an expensive long term.
- 1:33:09Speaker 18: So you know, there's gonna be a lot of discussion,
- 1:33:11Speaker 18: I would think to figure out what they went want
- 1:33:13Speaker 18: to do. I always believe in playing baseball on grass,
- 1:33:17Speaker 18: but that's just my personal opinion.
- 1:33:19Speaker 7: I have no I have no dog in the fight.
- 1:33:21Speaker 17: Yeah, aesthetics aside Andrew, there's a practical part. And you're
- 1:33:25Speaker 17: playing baseball in February and in early March there, so
- 1:33:28Speaker 17: you want to you want the field that can get
- 1:33:31Speaker 17: you in position to play games as quick as possible,
- 1:33:34Speaker 17: certainly to be a big factor.
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: I couldn't agree more.
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: And now Schlatsie can talk to yesterday during his media
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: availability about the arms that Missouri has. He's got some
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: pretty good arms in the stable tonight too well.
- 1:33:45Speaker 17: Jared Spencer obviously is a guy tonight and that's why
- 1:33:48Speaker 17: we we said he can't hang his head if he
- 1:33:51Speaker 17: if he gives one up that that goes out of
- 1:33:53Speaker 17: the ballpark. Their guy is interesting Ian Losi because he's winless.
- 1:33:57Speaker 7: In fact, he hasn't won in three years.
- 1:33:58Speaker 17: But in my pregame interview I just recorded with wish Loss,
- 1:34:02Speaker 17: he said that, you know, this guy's a unique pitcher
- 1:34:04Speaker 17: and he talks a lot about that with pitchers and
- 1:34:06Speaker 17: how he wants pitchers that are unique, and he said
- 1:34:08Speaker 17: he's a guy that they've the style he pitches, they've
- 1:34:11Speaker 17: they've not seen they don't have on their team. And
- 1:34:13Speaker 17: he's put up some good numbers. But he does have
- 1:34:15Speaker 17: a high era. But you know, he's going to be
- 1:34:18Speaker 17: juiced up obviously to face this Texas team tonight.
- 1:34:21Speaker 18: Well, I think there's two things in this guys that
- 1:34:23Speaker 18: you got to look at. Friday night guys in the
- 1:34:26Speaker 18: SEC have got to give you some link. It just
- 1:34:29Speaker 18: sets you up for the rest of the weekend. If
- 1:34:32Speaker 18: you can get your starter into the seventh on Friday Night,
- 1:34:36Speaker 18: then all of a sudden, you look at your book
- 1:34:37Speaker 18: pen pretty well set up for the rest of the
- 1:34:40Speaker 18: weekend regardless. So it falls on that Friday night guy
- 1:34:44Speaker 18: to give you some link and keep you in the
- 1:34:46Speaker 18: ball game, give you an opportunity to win. And Spencer's
- 1:34:49Speaker 18: been good at that last week. I think that was
- 1:34:51Speaker 18: ultra important in the game against LSU. They did ended
- 1:34:55Speaker 18: up dropping the game, but he his link allowed Texas
- 1:34:59Speaker 18: to say their bullpen to use a Riojas and and
- 1:35:03Speaker 18: uh Balantis the way they did and come away with
- 1:35:06Speaker 18: the series win.
- 1:35:07Speaker 7: So got to get some depth out of your starter.
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: See that's why I like listening to Keith Morling because
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: I learned something new and I'm gonna steal that for
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: the next time I talk about the Texas pitching staff.
- 1:35:17Speaker 17: Yeah, no doubt, And obviously you know you don't know
- 1:35:20Speaker 17: what's gonna happen with the weather this weekend, so you
- 1:35:23Speaker 17: could be condensed so all of a sudden that that
- 1:35:25Speaker 17: puts a little bit more stress on the on the
- 1:35:28Speaker 17: staff if in fact they have to play too tomorrow
- 1:35:31Speaker 17: because of pending weather on on Sunday, So you just
- 1:35:34Speaker 17: never know what you're up against in a three game series.
- 1:35:37Speaker 7: That means so much.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: So I was saying earlier that I think it's cool
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: that they can piece me all together a Sunday start
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: against a team in Missouri who's still looking for their
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: first conference win, but they kind of need to start
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: thinking about who will be that everyday Sunday starter.
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: Am I wrong about that?
- 1:35:53Speaker 6: Well?
- 1:35:53Speaker 18: I think the first thing is that you're right. But
- 1:35:55Speaker 18: if it were me, I would say we already have
- 1:35:58Speaker 18: that guy. Riojas was outstanding on Sunday against LSU, if
- 1:36:04Speaker 18: you know. But the thing about it is you go
- 1:36:06Speaker 18: into a weekend and everybody's got to understand that your
- 1:36:09Speaker 18: first job is to win each game that you're playing.
- 1:36:12Speaker 18: So when you go in, you know you got Jared Spencer,
- 1:36:15Speaker 18: the only guy that I think that you would not
- 1:36:17Speaker 18: see tonight in case trying to win the game would
- 1:36:21Speaker 18: be Luke Harrison. And if you don't see either of
- 1:36:25Speaker 18: the guys, if Valentis Grubs are rojast tonight, then one
- 1:36:29Speaker 18: of those three would probably be the starter on Sunday.
- 1:36:32Speaker 7: So that's the way you go about it. I think
- 1:36:34Speaker 7: you go.
- 1:36:34Speaker 18: Into that first game, you got to win the first one,
- 1:36:36Speaker 18: and then go into the second game and play it
- 1:36:38Speaker 18: that way, and if you can win the series in
- 1:36:40Speaker 18: the second game, you use those guys as well, and
- 1:36:42Speaker 18: then when you get to Sunday you find out the
- 1:36:45Speaker 18: one guy of those three that you haven't used, and
- 1:36:49Speaker 18: in my opinion, that's the guy gets the ball on
- 1:36:51Speaker 18: Sunday trying to sweep the series.
- 1:36:53Speaker 7: But you want to win the first one first and
- 1:36:55Speaker 7: go from there.
- 1:36:56Speaker 17: Yeah, Andrew, I think we're so programmed to think, Okay,
- 1:36:59Speaker 17: here's the ROTA for the weekend and that's that. And
- 1:37:02Speaker 17: then you know, Schlass comes in and from the first
- 1:37:04Speaker 17: day we talked to him, whenever we asked about pitching plan,
- 1:37:07Speaker 17: his first response was want to win the game tonight.
- 1:37:10Speaker 17: Now he's not going to empty everybody, as Keith said,
- 1:37:12Speaker 17: He's not gonna throw Luke Harrison out there tonight, but
- 1:37:15Speaker 17: he'll throw Riojas if they have a chance to win it,
- 1:37:17Speaker 17: and he thinks that him coming in is their best option,
- 1:37:20Speaker 17: and then you figure out game three when you get
- 1:37:23Speaker 17: to game three. So that's just kind of the attitude,
- 1:37:25Speaker 17: and you see it a lot in college baseball.
- 1:37:28Speaker 7: That's why you.
- 1:37:28Speaker 17: See a lot of TBAs on a Sunday starter when
- 1:37:31Speaker 17: you look ahead to a weekend rotation.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: I feel like that's more and more common now too,
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: that we're moving away from the idea, Okay, we'll have
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: every of these guys locked in place.
- 1:37:39Speaker 2: I've been saying though, that this feels.
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: Like a completely different vibe around the pitching staff compared
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: to last year. Do you guys agree?
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: Well?
- 1:37:47Speaker 7: I think I think last year.
- 1:37:50Speaker 18: You really were searching all the way through the season
- 1:37:53Speaker 18: for even that number one guy, and it ended up
- 1:37:55Speaker 18: being Max Scrubbs. That ended up as you got into
- 1:37:58Speaker 18: conference play. That sort of gives you set the tone.
- 1:38:01Speaker 18: And then the other part of that, they were searching
- 1:38:04Speaker 18: most of the year last year to find that guy
- 1:38:06Speaker 18: on the back end here, and I think that we've
- 1:38:09Speaker 18: seen that we've got a guy for the back end.
- 1:38:13Speaker 18: If the last five ball games that were really really
- 1:38:17Speaker 18: close and needed somebody to close the door. It's it's
- 1:38:19Speaker 18: been Dylan to come into the game to do that.
- 1:38:21Speaker 18: So I think you found that one guy that fits
- 1:38:24Speaker 18: in that role. And uh, you know, I hate to
- 1:38:26Speaker 18: work backwards, but I think you work with a Friday
- 1:38:28Speaker 18: night starter and work from the back end of the
- 1:38:30Speaker 18: bullpen back because that wins each game.
- 1:38:32Speaker 7: And then tomorrow you do the same thing.
- 1:38:34Speaker 18: Well, we're going to start this guy, and we're gonna
- 1:38:36Speaker 18: work who's available from the back end back to you,
- 1:38:40Speaker 18: and you hope your starter gives you some length.
- 1:38:41Speaker 17: Yeah, and Grubs is so valuable because he could come
- 1:38:44Speaker 17: in and the third and get you to the seventh
- 1:38:46Speaker 17: or eighth inn And you know he's that You hear
- 1:38:49Speaker 17: it all the time and you go, well, you know, duh,
- 1:38:51Speaker 17: you got to be a strike door. But we watched
- 1:38:53Speaker 17: enough baseball to know not all these guys are strike
- 1:38:55Speaker 17: throwers on a on a consistent basis. And for the
- 1:38:58Speaker 17: most part, Max Rubs has done that. Ruber Riojas, that
- 1:39:01Speaker 17: was his reputation as a strike thrower. We've seen him
- 1:39:05Speaker 17: kind of wear down a little bit after about three
- 1:39:07Speaker 17: or four innings at times, and then all of a sudden,
- 1:39:09Speaker 17: the strike thrower might lose a little something and get hit.
- 1:39:12Speaker 17: But again he's just trying to figure it out, Andrew,
- 1:39:16Speaker 17: and so far he's done a pretty nice job. When
- 1:39:18Speaker 17: you look at twenty and three through twenty three ball
- 1:39:21Speaker 17: games and with their schedule, we're we're not far from
- 1:39:24Speaker 17: the midway point because they don't have a full fifty
- 1:39:26Speaker 17: six game schedule.
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: I'm feeling good about this team.
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: Roger Wallace and Keep Moreland on the call tonight on
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: one O three one, First pitches at six pm.
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: Guys, thanks so much, Thanks Andrew, see Andrew, there you go.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: When we come back, we will hear more from Vic
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: Shaeffer and company as they year out for the Sweet sixteen,

- 1:40:11Speaker 1: Wallace and Moreland will be on the call for that

- 1:40:45Speaker 1: on one OZHO three to one. Set your preset on
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: the free iHeartRadio app. All right, So we were hearing
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: from Vic Schaeffer and his team earlier in the hour,
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: and it will continue to hear from them as they
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: gear up for two thirty tip tomorrow two fifteen airtime
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: right here on the Zone as they get ready to
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: take on the five seeded Tennessee Lady Vaults. Now, Madison
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: Booker was the SEC Player of the Year. And even
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: if the ESPN pronosticators and the CBS beloiviators and the
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: Fox Sports gas bags do not respect the Texas Longhorn
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: women's basketball team. You know you're gonna get it for me. So,
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: Madison Booker was asked by the media today availability Roy
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: Harmon has spoken at length about everything she's learned from Booker.
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: What is Madison Booker learned from Roy Harmon? I would
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: say I learned to be a leader for this team.
- 1:41:39Speaker 19: Just think just watching her at the first twelve games
- 1:41:43Speaker 19: of my freshman year before she went down, just you know,
- 1:41:47Speaker 19: watching how she led this team, watching how you know
- 1:41:50Speaker 19: she she she was like a I can't explain it,
- 1:41:56Speaker 19: but like she was like the head of this team,
- 1:41:58Speaker 19: and like whatever she did, like we were right behind her,
- 1:42:02Speaker 19: and like just like the energey she like put on defense,
- 1:42:04Speaker 19: like just like the little things like details. She's always
- 1:42:07Speaker 19: first line in practice everything, She's like the first one up.
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: Just like that kind of leadership.
- 1:42:13Speaker 19: And I think that this year I've kind of taken
- 1:42:17Speaker 19: more of that role too, just you know, being man
- 1:42:20Speaker 19: like going to I guess experience, just you know, starting
- 1:42:24Speaker 19: point guard, being like an elite eight, And I kind
- 1:42:29Speaker 19: of just took that with me this year, kind of
- 1:42:31Speaker 19: more of a leader, still kind of not the leader
- 1:42:33Speaker 19: I guess they want me to be. But but you know,
- 1:42:36Speaker 19: I'm still learning here and there.
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: I'm still you know, learning here and there.
- 1:42:41Speaker 19: But I think just that that one piece that people
- 1:42:43Speaker 19: don't see a lot, it's really what I learned, and
- 1:42:47Speaker 19: it's I'm actually I'm happy to learn from her.
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: It's a lot to learn from Rory Harmon obviously, and
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: matter Booker has learned a ton going from the freshman
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: Big Twelve Player of the Year to now year number
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: two of Texas being the SEC player of the Year.
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: She got to ask the question, how do you feel
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: like you've grown over these past two seasons.
- 1:43:09Speaker 19: I remember, I think last year we played West Virginia. Oh,
- 1:43:12Speaker 19: I think last year we played West Virginia, and I
- 1:43:15Speaker 19: remember we didn't have Rory. We didn't have Rory there
- 1:43:19Speaker 19: to break the press. You know, she's probably like the
- 1:43:20Speaker 19: one man press break whatever you want to call her,
- 1:43:23Speaker 19: but we didn't have her. I was the point guard.
- 1:43:25Speaker 19: And I remember I had non turnovers that game in
- 1:43:29Speaker 19: the press. Yeah, that was a great stat line, non turnovers,
- 1:43:33Speaker 19: not assists, and I think some more points, I'm gonna
- 1:43:35Speaker 19: have a triple double. But just learning from that moment,
- 1:43:42Speaker 19: just looking at my turnovers, I think I've kind of
- 1:43:44Speaker 19: learned patients. You know, you know, I don't go their speed,
- 1:43:48Speaker 19: go my speed. And for you know, tomorrow Tennessee, I
- 1:43:51Speaker 19: think it's gonna be the same thing. Patients like they're
- 1:43:54Speaker 19: gonna try to, you know, speak like speed you up,
- 1:43:57Speaker 19: but I'm gonna just go at my own pace. And
- 1:43:59Speaker 19: you know, I was just coming to them like a
- 1:44:01Speaker 19: new conference when Player of the Year is a blessing
- 1:44:04Speaker 19: for real, But I just think this year is more
- 1:44:06Speaker 19: of a retarding my back, more of a mental thing.
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: I think.
- 1:44:11Speaker 19: Also, I like that leaning my teammates a lot for that.
- 1:44:13Speaker 19: I think for that a lot because when my shooting,
- 1:44:18Speaker 19: like when I shot bad, they picked me up. You
- 1:44:21Speaker 19: got Kyla down there, Taylor Shay Hidden plus Streets Rory
- 1:44:25Speaker 19: like leaning our team, the freshmen, they're doing their thing.
- 1:44:29Speaker 19: I do find like other ways to kind of provide
- 1:44:32Speaker 19: to this team. But I really thank them for everything,
- 1:44:35Speaker 19: like all my my.
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: Awards and stuff like that.
- 1:44:37Speaker 19: It's really just come from them.
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: Very grateful, very heartfelt, very Texas Madison Booker talking during
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: media availability. Andrewsim will fill in for Craig this afternoons.
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: We geary up for tomorrow Sweet sixteen matchup. Now because
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: of the injury that happened at Giugi Watkins, a lot
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: of the national media has now directed their attention towards
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: Roy Harmon. Now you heard it yesterday people asking her
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: questions about the ACL injury and has she talked to
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: Juji Watkins, what's the relationship? Like everything else today, she's
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: got similar questions about her ACL injury from last season.
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: But I thought this was a very interesting one. It
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: was the ACL recovery mentally versus physically, because we also
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: don't know how long it takes to get back on
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: the court after an ACL injury physically, but mentally, what
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: is that?
- 1:45:27Speaker 17: Like?
- 1:45:28Speaker 20: The physical is Honestly, when I look back, it's so easy.
- 1:45:33Speaker 20: I wouldn't say so easy, but like looking back like
- 1:45:35Speaker 20: it was, like, you know, it was a lot easier
- 1:45:37Speaker 20: because the mental comes after, like when you're clear, Like
- 1:45:40Speaker 20: you're clear and you're like, okay, I'm physically good, Like
- 1:45:42Speaker 20: they wouldn't release me if I wasn't physically good. But
- 1:45:45Speaker 20: it's not like you They help you with your mental
- 1:45:47Speaker 20: as much. It's as much as your physical. And so
- 1:45:50Speaker 20: when you get to playing and it's like the mental
- 1:45:54Speaker 20: now looking back, I'm still going through it it's not
- 1:45:56Speaker 20: something that kind of just like goes away like just
- 1:45:59Speaker 20: because you start playing again. Uh, it's definitely a lot harder,
- 1:46:02Speaker 20: And obviously I hate that for her, Like absolutely don't
- 1:46:07Speaker 20: like that.
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: I'm very We're not even like that close.
- 1:46:11Speaker 20: But like I've said before, like this is a basketball player,
- 1:46:15Speaker 20: the woman's basketball player, and we all stick together, and
- 1:46:19Speaker 20: I just wish she has the best recovery and just
- 1:46:23Speaker 20: so she knows that she's gonna come back better, faster, stronger.
- 1:46:27Speaker 20: Obviously it's gonna take a lot longer than any you know,
- 1:46:30Speaker 20: regular ankle injury, but she's gonna be a better player
- 1:46:33Speaker 20: than she was before.
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: So now when you're on the sideline, obviously you're gonna
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: have a different view of the game. But when you're
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: on the sideline with an injury, that changes them things.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: She was asked how your view of basketball as a
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: sport and then you know, as a life changed, Uh
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: after and working through your acial injury.
- 1:46:52Speaker 20: If I'm being honest, I absolutely hated it right after
- 1:46:55Speaker 20: I got injured. Like I didn't want to see anything.
- 1:46:57Speaker 20: I didn't want to go to practice. You that was
- 1:47:00Speaker 20: just like a day after I you know, turn my aco.
- 1:47:03Speaker 20: But eventually you get out of your own funk and
- 1:47:05Speaker 20: you start being you stop being so selfish and into yourself,
- 1:47:08Speaker 20: And think about I was it was twelve games in,
- 1:47:10Speaker 20: Like I'm still on the team.
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: I'm still a player on the team. I may not
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: just be playing, and.
- 1:47:15Speaker 20: So they still had a whole season, like I still
- 1:47:17Speaker 20: have to be there. And then obviously I spend a
- 1:47:19Speaker 20: lot of time like just seeing a different perspective of
- 1:47:24Speaker 20: the game, like you said, and understand. I think those
- 1:47:27Speaker 20: moments like you got to look on the bright side
- 1:47:29Speaker 20: of some things, and I just thought like being able
- 1:47:32Speaker 20: to focus and learn the game of basketball from another
- 1:47:36Speaker 20: point of view because I'm so used to looking at
- 1:47:38Speaker 20: it from being on the court.
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: But sometimes like.
- 1:47:41Speaker 20: Coach might be right about what he says, you know
- 1:47:43Speaker 20: when he's busting you don't necessarily understand it, like if
- 1:47:46Speaker 20: you're in the game, but like when you're on the sidelines,
- 1:47:49Speaker 20: like you actually like okay okay. And I think it
- 1:47:51Speaker 20: helped a lot with just slowing the game down for
- 1:47:53Speaker 20: me coming into this year.
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: I think I like learned a lot from.
- 1:47:58Speaker 20: Madison from that point guard position. And obviously she could
- 1:48:02Speaker 20: say she learned a lot from me, but I learned
- 1:48:03Speaker 20: a lot from her because at that moment I was
- 1:48:06Speaker 20: what I was.
- 1:48:08Speaker 2: We're just twelve game in. I'm not perfect.
- 1:48:10Speaker 20: I still learned something from someone, and it doesn't have
- 1:48:12Speaker 20: to always be like someone older or more experienced, like
- 1:48:16Speaker 20: so I learned from Madison still.
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: So yeah, super good for this University of Texas team
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: to grow together, and you can clearly see that is
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: in the works with a team that is now just
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: a couple of games away from cutting down the nets
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: for a national championship. That's a goal at least for
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: this team. All right, when we come back, we'll get
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: you ready for the weekend. Gear you up for a
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: big Sweet sixteen matchup baseball this weekend and everything else
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: happening in the wide world of sports, all coming up
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: to Max Andrews. I will fill in for Craig on
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone Sports Radio AM
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: thirteen hundred The Zone as we wrap up another.
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: Edition of The Craig Way Show. Craig will be.
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: Back on Wednesday of next week. I'll be filling in Tuesday,
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: Monday and Tuesday and then that as well. So you
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: got me three days next week where we will be
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: reacting to and preparing you for an elite matchup, potentially
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: with either Notre Dame or TCU
