- Erich: Welcome back, everyone. Week four recap. What a weekend. Upsets, good wins, teams are up and down, all of it was was fantastic. And Kevin, we're gonna start today by talking about something I have never seen before. Personal foul simulating using the bathroom. I have never seen this before. I never thought the giving him the business call. By a ref in a football game would be you know, outdone, but it was. And it was I don't know what's going on at Texas because it didn't end there, Kevin. One of the touchdown celebrations, the guy wiped his junk, simulated sniffing it, and passing out. So I I don't know if there's some weird donor that is paying kids to do grotesque celebrations. I mean, from an entertainment standpoint, I was dying. I've watched the replay of the ref calling, simulating using the bathroom like 10 times now. So it was hilarious. Although I do kind of think it was a microcosm of how sloppy the game was for Texas. Like you're focused more on weird celebrations as opposed to putting away a team that you're clearly better than. So great weekend. Obviously, I'm on a little bit more of a high than you right now. And you know, we'll we'll we'll hit on that game here in a little bit. And we'll get to it. But why don't we get right into it? and let's just talk about the simulating using the bathroom game, which is I guess what I'm gonna call that here for today's recap. Texas 20, Tennessee, 17. So Texas did not cover it's it's a closer score than how the game really looked. So Stimmons is a monster for Tennessee. Five sacks. Kevin: Texas. Erich: they survived Neyland and an onside kick that Tennessee got. But even though they got the onside kick, it just it never seemed like they had the ability to just like really put it together and beat Texas. And I know there's gonna be people out there saying, look Texas, they're still sloppy on the road. Neyland is a tough place to play. I I do think that we have to give that credit. It's a road game in the SEC. These are the games Texas lost last year. So while I'm sure there's gonna be nitpicking going on, if I'm a Texas fan, I'm happy. Because we went two and three on the road last year. And we only have four road games this year, as you and I talked about, plus the one neutral site. So right now we have One of our four road games done. We don't go on another road game until the end of the year. And we got to win at probably what's going to be one of our two toughest environments this year on the road. So if I'm a Texas fan, I'm happy. What are your thoughts? Kevin: No, I think you absolutely take Erich: Yep. Kevin: it. Back to Colin Simmons. He he's lucky he had five Erich: That's yeah. Kevin: sacks instead of program record pull pulling that stunt. I I'll say that's a a little more forgivable. Erich: I'll say that's a little more forgivable. Kevin: I'm gonna go wait out on a limb though. I I think I think culturally, like I'm an I'm an old school Erich: Like, I'm a I'm an old Kevin: guy. I I think I think a team that's doing that kind of crap, like Erich: Yeah. Kevin: call it much more than that, but this is a family show. Erich: Much more than that, but this is a family shoe. Kevin: I I I think I think it prevents them from winning the Erich: I think that's something that's Kevin: national championship. no, I'm I I hate Erich: It it was like I and you. Kevin: that type of stuff. It's it's me me type of garbage. I y I just I I don't know. It could be a Erich: It was as grotastic like you and I are no prudes by any means, but it was like that was that was gross. And it was a sack in the first quarter and like he literally simulated unzipping, holding, and urinating. Like Kevin: Yeah. Erich: it was as gross of a celebration as you can have. And to your point, what culturally is going on in Texas? And it didn't end there. It wasn't like a one off. That's the problem. Kevin: Yeah. Well, it's always been called the country club atmosphere and the culture. I know Sarcus ficts some of that. Obviously, they're number one. Obviously, they're they're rolling right now and big win at General Nealand Stadium and they've beaten Ohio State. Erich: Deal and stadium and Ohio State. Kevin: So on and on and on. But I think some of that stuff matters. The me, me, me stuff. Erich: Thanks for that stuff, manager. Kevin: Did did you do that just to go viral on Twitter and have an all-time meme and people always? Talk about that. I but I feel like in some ways he's like, I'm Erich: It's not five. Kevin: good. We're gonna win this game. I'm I'm gonna do this anyway. So maybe I'm making too much of it there. We'll see. Big picture. Texas survives its first real road test. Sloppy game, ugly defensive battle. Their roster's just in a better place at Tennessee right now. They were able to get the job done. Tennessee has opportunities though. They cut it to three late, they get the wild onside, but They were not able to keep phase on Brandon upright at all. And we talked about during the game a little bit, Josh Hypel, you you gotta help your five star freshman quarterback out a little bit. Something. Keep max protection in, Erich: Yeah. Kevin: chip with a back or tight end. They allowed eleven sacks. I I mean Brandon, he had the injury at one point. He was just under fire all day. He's probably soaking in an ice tub right now. Erich: fire hall then stuff gonna iced up right now. So skip the control menu picture for another part of the work. Some that just isn't in their office don't have that that kind of an apparent Kevin: So Texas gets the big road win. I will say big picture for them going forward. Something just isn't right with their offense still. Back to back years that could nip them again. You know, the lack of offensive rhythm, Arch Manning looks very average at times. Their pass and run game hasn't consistently complemented each other. I do know they were without Hollywood some others in this game, but something to keep an eye out. Their offensive play calling sometimes. Erich: without highwoods and others in this game. But something to keep an eye on Kevin: Leaves things to be desired. Arch Manning can struggle just looking at a receiver too much, not getting to the second read, and and other times he's pressured. So it's a it's a really good road win. I think Tennessee's in line though for a maybe eight win season at best. So n it's really hard to win there. Erich: screen just command on the team just back into the second pretty much. So it's a it's a pretty season line for season at best, so that would be great. Kevin: They have good players, I get it. Texas is gonna face way more challengers. That are closer to the level down the road. So that is my takeaway there. Moving into the second game, what do we got there, Eric? Erich: Agreed. Yeah, Kevin: This is Michigan Iowa we wanted to discuss, right? Erich: one of the two upsets we're gonna discuss here heavily Michigan out gains Iowa four twenty nine to two eighty five. And finds a way to lose. I think and this, you know, similar to the game we just talked about, where it just seems like the offensive play calling just isn't working for Underwood at Michigan. If you're gonna just go with him, then you need to game plan around them. And the example I want to use is look at how Faulkner calls his games for Florida. If you want to see like what a peak offensive coordinator is and a scheme that allows a QB to quickly dissect dissect, make fast decisions, and just be effective. That, you know, with teams that have a s you know, Michigan has just as much talent on their roster as Florida does, top to bottom, like no doubt about it. That's I think the difference between a lot of these teams that are you know, they're just humming along right now, and the these that are not Michigan like they started strong. Obviously they, you know, they had the fourth and one they went for and they didn't get it. this one just is another one. I didn't believe Michigan was gonna win until it happened. Which will that's a theme here today's show. I mean, Iowa going for a field goal when it was fourth and six on like the twenty yard line or whatever it was. It's like a forty yard field goal when they would have had to have scored again anyways, and missing the field goal, I was like, well, that clearly has to be it. Michigan needed one first down. They needed one first down. And I wanna just call out I can't believe, you know, all these guys that came from Utah with Whittingham, how gutless they were in that situation. Like, are you really worried about them having one timeout? That you're not gonna try to, you know, do something creative to get the first down to end the game. I just and this is a theme for a lot of coaches. It's like get what impacts the analytics more for your game here. Them keeping one timeout and having an extra ten seconds in the game or them not have you know, or the or you getting the first down. My guess is you getting the first down drastically. I'm no mathematician, but my guess is that drastically impacts the game. So I don't want to sound like a Michigan fan here. I'm just more talking about I think when coaches lose games for teams, the decisions they make You kn Michigan, you know you're not a high potent offense right now. Why are you going for it? When it's fourth or one, just take the points. There's a lot of ways Michigan could have won this game. But sometimes the football gods giveth and then they come back and taketh away, Kevin. You could call this hashtag karma. Shout out to Brett Brett Balama's wife, hashtag karma. If if you know, you know. But yes. Great win for Iowa. If I'm an Iowa fan, I'm like, hey, we don't care. We got out of there with a win. This is one of the tough, toughest games we're gonna have all year. We're you know, we're going for a playoff this year. No reason for them not to look at their schedule that way. This is one of their tough ones, and they got the win and incredible play at the end of the game, incredible throw, incredible catch. And yeah, Iowa gets the win over Michigan, a place they do not win often. Kevin: I was absolutely ecstatic with this. To your point, Erich: Yeah. Kevin: they had it won in in Arbor since twenty ten. Prior to that, it was two thousand two, so I think two times in the twenty first century. Incredible play at the end. What a throw by Hank Brown. He's obviously not a future NFL quarterback, but that certainly was one of those types of throws. Back shoulder at the pylon to Reese Van Der See. What a grab, gets his feet in, got both in. Just exquisite play and timing and all those types of things. And the huge play before th they threw it up to the tight end about roughly like a 30-yard play, kind of bobbles it, brings it in. But Michigan is absolutely kicking themselves for this game. I'm with you on some of Whittingham's decisions. The one that's gonna be scrutinized is The one you mentioned, you know, he explained he didn't want to give Iowa additional time to plan, and he said he was to prepared to call one if the situation didn't resolve itself. But they ultimately just needed one more defensive stop to win. I think their defense deserves some of the scrutiny here, which is it's hard to put that on them when they didn't really allow anything all day. I know it's not the most dynamic Iowa offense, but they are improved this year. But then you surrender touchdown drives. The that, you know, are they excuse me, surrender the 91 yard touchdown drive. When does Iowa in the final minute drive 91 yards for the win on the road at the big house? You know, it that's why it's a special win for them. That just doesn't happen. The other play that is under scrutiny is Michigan early versus Iowa not taking the points. Kick the field goal when you're on the 18 Erich: Yeah. Kevin: yard line early. We always talk about that. So many coaches with analytics elect to go for it. Gotta know who you're playing there. It's Iowa. Those points mattered. You would have had enough to hang on at the end, where Iowa would have been going for a two-point conversion to try to send it into overtime there. So little things to go back on, but if you're in Michigan, there's just so many things. You can also look at the unnecessary roughness play on Zeke Barry on third down at midfield that Erich: Yeah. Kevin: extended the key drive. But if you would have Erich: A s a soft call, but yeah, you gotta just know where the game's at and I I again there's so many moments that you could go to that win this game for Michigan that turns out allowed Iowa to stay in it. Kevin: Right. And so many times, like we talk about Michigan, this wasn't a underwood still wasn't ready type of loss. He played well. He was efficient. He threw for about 280 yards. Yes, he had one pick, but he had three touchdowns. He was their offense in so many ways with his arm and his legs, of course. He did a great job of picking apart the four three base zone defense that we talked about with Phil Parker. He was patient for the most part. And if you You would have told Kyle Whittingham before the game that we're gonna put up 430 yards of offense on Iowa and lose at home. That'd be quite shocking. And I think a lot of folks are waking up shocked in Ann Arbor. And another key play in this game was after Michigan scored their their first touchdown to go up 7-0. Iowa then, as they often do with special teams, they re returned the ensuing kickoff to make it seven up. So a lot of Michigan fans. Are not too thrilled with Kyle Whittingham early. When you look at the Western Michigan game, that, you know, technically wasn't a win and how ugly that looked. Erich: Yeah. Kevin: The first half versus UTEP, this game now losing at home to Iowa, with the decision making and the penalties, all the discipline seems to be left in Salt Lake City and not brought to Ann Arbor. So a lot of questions remain for the Wolverines and As we will get to in our whip brown lady later, they don't have an easy one going up to Minneapolis for the big noon cat kick next week, but that'll come a little later on our show. What do you got next? Erich: Well, speaking of shocking, we have the Nobody Bowl results. Wisconsin beats Penn State for the first time since 2011. Kevin, you made the joke offline that since we have known each other and were doing these recap calls at my desk at work back in the day, Penn State's never lost to Wisconsin in our in our relationship. So this is a first. it's been a long time and I don't even remember if that I can't remember if that game was at Camp Randall or Happy Valley back then. Kevin: The twenty eleven was at Camp Randall. And then we get Erich: So I don't even know when the last time we'd beaten Penn State at Happy Valley. I mean, that would you'd have to go much further. Kevin: two thousand three. Erich: Okay, so you're talking Anthony Davis, basically. that's that Kevin: Yeah, we we Erich: was the only other time I could remember is Anthony Davis going around the edge, running for a long touchdown. okay, so yeah, it it twice in the last twenty I mean yeah, twice in the last twenty three years, so it doesn't happen often. yeah, I mean I had we made our predictions on this game, which We we both of us were pretty close to the final score. Obviously, we had the result flipped. A bit of a shocking game. I think a lot of questions rightfully being asked of Matt Campbell. And I just think the the game plan they had for this one. And I do think it's fair to point out this isn't an excuse for Penn State. But if you looked at the injury ports reports for both teams, Kevin: Yeah, three point twenty four. Erich: Penn State had much more significant Kobe Howard being one. players out for this game compared to Wisconsin. Now, I'm not gonna feel bad. I mean, we've been playing our fourth string quarterback the last three seasons, it feels like, for most of our games. So like it it happens. Injuries are part of the game, but it clearly impacted Penn State quite a bit on offense. They couldn't run the ball even when was Wisconsin was in their nickel, Wisconsin three interceptions, one pick six, another that set you guys up in the red zone. You guys come away with 10 points from that. Similar to the game we just talked about with Michigan, Iowa, there were so many opportunities for Penn State to put this game away. Rocco Becht was off. I don't want to say it was just all yeah, I want to give Wisconsin some props too because they hung in there. You can see the money they spent on this roster at times. they have speed on the outside now with DB and with with wide receiver. They have some really good tight ends. They have a lot of bodies on the defensive line. If you're playing Wisconsin and you're not running hurry up offense, then you're just you shouldn't be a coach because you don't know how to scout. They like to do line changes. The best way to deal with them is to not let them. But Matt Campbell didn't do any of those things. So Wisconsin hangs in. They get the long touchdown to Jacob Harris at the end. And that was all she wrote. Thoughts. Kevin: Painful. Painful, painful Erich: Hm. Kevin: loss for me. I did not think the streak was gonna end this way. Kudos to you guys. You got it done, and what could be a program defining turnaround for Luke Fickel? This hurts in so many ways as a diehard Penn State fan because. It it it felt exactly like so many James Franklin losses felt. And I'll get into that a little bit, but we just don't lose seventeen zero leads at home to I don't know, okay mediocre ish type teams. I'm I'm not trying to put but that's about where Wisconsin is right now. And it's actually been really bad the last three years. I I had a funny feeling this game. I picked twenty seven nineteen. I I wasn't quite sure where Penn State was. Thought Wisconsin was a little improved, but never in my wildest dreams did I think we would lose a game in that fashion. You know, as you pointed out, our offense was awful. And Wisconsin's o offense Erich: Yeah, really bad. Kevin: was really bad. And we were gifted that 17 0 lead and didn't didn't take advantage of it. Yes, Josiah Isaias is a really, really good true freshman, makes a nice play, but that's that's a horrible pick six by Cullen Joseph. Then the gift to Darius Dixon sets us up. I mean, you gift draft us fourteen points. Our only other three points we stalled near the goal line, had to kick a field goal early. So it's seventeen zero early. You get the score before half, a little bit of momentum at seventeen seven. Still a ton of time to go. I thought the game As we talked offline, it all the end stuff will be talked about the most, but the game was lost when Penn State led 20 to 10 and had the ball with roughly five minutes to go. They had just kicked a field goal and went on a time consuming drive to kind of write the ship a little bit on offense. They get a three and out stop for Wisconsin. They got a ten point lead. It's going in a night. All right, they're gonna win this ugly game. And then this is where some of the stuff that really shocked me for a Matt Campbell team. I don't know what Taylor Mauser was doing from an offensive coordinator standpoint, but we trot out Rocco Becht at receiver and try to bring in the backup Alex Manske when we just run regular plays. We haven't done anything well in our normal packages all game. That's not the time to get cute. You just you just keep plugging away at it. We get a false start on that drive, puts that drive back. We have to punt. We give it to Wisconsin again. The ghost of Yeah, exactly. We've seen Erich: Ghost the ghost of Andy Kotelniki was just in the stadium at that moment. Kevin: this too many times. We give it back to you guys again. Early fourth quarter. Still up 2010. Get another stop. Okay, now's the time to put the game away. No, let's run three straight dive left calls when we can't run the ball. Cool. Give it back to you guys again. Colton Joseph says, here you go, Tony Rojas. Throw it right to you for a pick. All right. Now there's eight minutes to go. Penn State's at midfield, up ten. Now it's surely over. Rocco Becht, inaccurate all day, which was absolutely brutal. Has Brad Eskildon wide open down the sideline. The DB's beat, under thrown. Can't make the play. Erich: Yeah. Kevin: Fumble the next step. I knew when we gave it back to Wisconsin up 20 to 10. Even though you guys had to go the length of the field. Erich: You guys had to go away to the field. You just cannot get better. It's not that great. Whatever that big chances in Big Ten football or major college football. Sure enough, you guys go on a drive. Kevin: You just cannot give, doesn't matter if a team's not that great or whatever, that many chances in Big Ten football or major college football. Sure enough, you guys go on a drive and then the final drive even was so much like Indiana last year. You guys are all the way backed up, and it's hard to blame this on the defense because they were our only bright spot of the day. Erich: Then the final drive even was so much like Indiana last year. You guys are all the way backed up and it's hard to blame this on the D styles because they were our only tight spot of the day. Obviously being how that's in turn. Kevin: Obviously being helped by Wisconsin turnovers, but you're backed up on your own sixth, second, and twenty, a little over a minute to go. And and great screen call, but it's unacceptable. Let lets you out of jail. And so my gosh, I could just go on and on and on. It's it's it's brutal to have these losses at Penn Erich: Lots that have been this to be the story of the week and they found me the Hunts madable loss that they hadn't a chance to make Monero. They took the Kevin: State that just seem to be the story of the weekend, these confounding, unfathomable losses that they had in the James Franklin era. We were supposed to put that to bed. Erich: point to that. And a bad champ hole, honeybee arrow, an abrupt not shed, a hard plot at home. Like that time, kudos to the Scots. You got Kevin: And the Matt Campbell honeymoon era ends in abrupt fashion. A horrendous loss at home. Like I said, kudos to Wisconsin. You guys got the job done. We had our game in Camp Randall where we won in 2021, where some bounces went our way in that one turnover wise. But I never imagined a million years that with a 2010 lead with the ball with eight minutes to go versus a team not named like Ohio State. Erich: We had our game at Camp Randall where we won in twenty twenty one where some went play and that one turnoverwise, but I never imagined a million years that when a 2010 leave of the ball has to go and like high on the pain. Kevin: That we would lose in Beaver Stadium. And you guys had three interceptions and nine penalties. We only turned it over once, had three penalties. That's college football for you, I guess, in a nutshell. it's nothing but pain, but it was time for you to enjoy a win in this series, Eric, and in our friendship. so a lot to clean up for Erich: Yes. so I've Kevin: Penn Penn State offensively. That was ugly. They do not have an easy game going on the road now at Northwestern with their opener. And we'll see we'll see what Wisconsin can do next week. This is the first time they'll be getting pats on the back in the Luke Fickle era, so Erich: Yep, and we will probably talk about Penn State Northwestern next week. This is a stretch you and I talked about where if Wisconsin wins this game and Penn State loses, it's kind of a nightmare scenario because now you gotta be the team that goes into the new stadium and obviously Northwestern, boy, if they just play a little clean, they would have just beaten Indiana on the road. So they're clearly no slouch. And now you gotta go from letdown to You know, this is gonna probably maybe not quite, but whenever I think of those emotional situations, I think of the New Orleans Saints season where their home opener, you know, in the Superdome coming after Hurricane Katrina type energy. You know what I mean? That won't maybe quite be in that level, but like that's the type of atmosphere you're walking into. So we will we'll leave that for our our preview. but let's talk, let's stay in the Big Ten and let's talk. you were right and I was wrong about this one. However, you might be wrong about your pick in regard to USC being different this year Kevin: Huh. Erich: than I was. And, you know, so you know I I I feel like we've you and I have kept flipping back and forth in this team. And, you know, I was like wise Oregon favored, and it is quite clear to me that. I mean, go back to do you remember the game against Alabama? I don't know, it was like ten, twelve years ago, where USC had that ridiculous like they were acting like guys done dogs on leashes and they're like crawling like they're about to come onto the the field against Alabama. And then Alabama just trounces them like fifty to three years, something like that. Ever since that moment, USC has been soft as a team. defensively. And maybe it goes back before then. They have been soft defensively the entire Lincoln Riley era. Oklahoma was soft defensively under Lincoln Riley. And, you know, I don't care what coordinator you bring in, that's I don't think that's gonna change. Because regard like the head coach, the coach, like defense is a culture It it's just more culture driven than any other unit, I I think, on the on the team. And he does not prov he does not have a culture that leads to toughness in defense. You know, they had that disgusting hit that I mean, I hope Dante Moore's okay. We'll have to see what his prognosis is. Some of the guys are like celebrating it, and then you know what? Here comes Rayola, the guy everyone was making fun of in the offseason for gaining weight, and he picked him apart. So he comes in, gets the revenge. Great win for Oregon. The odds makers favored Oregon by three. This is their get right game. And now it is one of those situations where it's like, boy, there's probably a lot of teams in the Big Ten that can beat USC, especially when USC has to go on the road. Remember, the week before they without a pick six, they probably lose to Rutgers. So we, you know, they couldn't get this one. You know, this should have been their establishing ourselves for the rest of the year. So I think. I think pretty much anyone in the Big Ten that gets USC on the road can win that game just because of how soft USC is defensively. And clearly the culture just is not what it should be to maximize their talent. Cause that's what we're talking about here. They are loaded top to bottom on that team. Like everyone would want that roster. At every position, they have guys, and we don't see it on the field. Rayla comes in the second half, throws two hundred and eighty nine yards and two touchdowns, Kevin. Kevin: I I it's unbelievable. Erich: I was excited. Like you and I have made fun of Ryola plenty. I was like, I wanted him to go in there and tear it up. Like that that is what USC is, is no one wants to root for them now. I I mean, they just just these LA softies. That's what they are. Like they want to be crowned without ever earning the title or even coming close to doing it. That's who they are. Rant over. Kevin: You're spot on, Eric. I was fooled by the glitz and glam of the roster. Lincoln Riley's future in LA is on thin ice. That's an embarrassing loss. The coaching, the it's just the from all the antics with the frightening, really scary Dante Moore injury says all you need to know about. Where the USC kids are at in that team. You've touched on that. And then, you know, credit Dan Lanning. I've questioned him before as a coach. He inherited the Cadillac, the Nike money, et cetera, et cetera. You know, who couldn't win there? But he really showed me something in this game. In a must have game for USC. He has Dylan Rayola prepared. Kudos to Dylan Rayola. He prepared himself and Dan Lanning had him in a position with the confidence in him. To go out there and and light it up. Unbelievable, because he looked absolutely awful at Nebraska for much of his career with all the you know hype and talent that he he came in from high school with. Their execution, Oregon was flawless, and you know, USC ties it late with Jaden Maiava to make it twenty-seven up. Is it game on? Is USC gonna finally do it? No, they just will. And Oregon scores Erich: And that that's a team that you might look Kevin: Two more fourth Erich: back on and hey that lost the still water wasn't that Kevin: quarter touchdowns to win going away, 41 27. And that that's a team Erich: Yes. Yes. Kevin: that we might look back on and hey, that loss in Stillwater wasn't to that bad of a team as we might touch on. Maybe that's what Oregon needed. Little bit of a ego check, get things right. This was the Oregon team we expected. And yeah, USC is is just so soft. I I can't believe I I bought into this defense. Well, I can because like you said, there's dudes everywhere. It's it's inexplicable. And Dan Lanning with Erich: With one of the quantity airflow from our encapsulate difference between the two applications that subscribe to block guys out. Yeah, that's that's epic. Kevin: one of the quotes of the year so far perfectly encapsulated the difference between these two programs. He said with a it was a recruiting pitch to LA kids after the game, he said, Well, we've won three in a row versus guys now. And if you want to come to Oregon, or if you want to win games, come to Oregon. And if you want to go see a Chris Brown concert, go to USC. And that's that's it It is. That's that's that's literally all you need to know about these teams. So I think Lincoln Riley needs to to look in the mirror, but I think it's honestly too late for that. Erich: Yeah, I I don't know what fixes it there. Lincoln Riley, I don't think is ever going to get them over the hump. And we all know where USC wants to be. And we all know what the recruiting that they bring in and the money and that that they spend, where that what that means is in regard to where they should be. And it's just one of the things, like I to me, USC, their mirror image is always Miami. Because you know if someone gets in there who can control the rot locker room and get it right. It's fireworks. And that's why we talk about USC because you know it is just the right coach away from being fireworks. You know, like the right coach at Iowa or Wisconsin still has a lot of work to do to try to be a top 10 team. Kevin: Mm-hmm. Erich: But if you're the right coach at USC and you can get these kids in line, same thing with Miami, it is fireworks right away. There's no waiting because it's always there. So You know, I I think that's why people talk about them. That's why they're like, is this the year? Is this is this when it's gonna get right? And kudos to Dan Lanning. I I do want to call that out. And I think this applies to a lot of things. Especially in the first half of the season, we overreact to losses. You don't know how they're going to age. You can't call a loss at Hoko Oklahoma State right now a bad loss. And just like Penn State, Wisconsin, at the end of the year, you might look back and then be like, That wasn't that bad of a loss. You know, you just gotta you have to wait and see how it plays out. It's just they sting in the moment. And to that end, let's talk about Oklahoma State. Because Kevin, you had them playing in the Big 12 championship this year. I thought, man, like that'd be cool. I'd love to see it, but are you sure? Then they lose to Tulsa. We're all like, well, that's a terrible pick. And we did what the typical fan does, and you write them off. Then they get to win over Oregon. And now you write off Oregon. And then they win again last week. And then they go to West Virginia. They put up six hundred and nine yards of offense against what I think is again, this is a West Virginia team that ran for over 300 yards. A really talented West Virginia Kevin: Yeah, three thirty four. Erich: team. And they just They just out lasted him and Yeah, you guys can run the ball well. We know we're not gonna stop it, but we're gonna have our moments where Michael Hawkins is gonna have to make a throw and we think he's gonna miss. And he did. And man, what a fun team to watch. Both these teams are. That was such a fun game because it's just really high octane offenses. Oklahoma State Oklahoma State's scheme is incredible. It's right up there. You know, they're right up there this in terms of fun to watch with Mississippi State. In West Virginia, just in terms of like it makes you want to go play the video game. It's that type of offense. And it's an offense that you and I are like, man, I'm just jealous that they have it, right? Because I Kevin: Mm-hmm. Erich: I want that, right? So it is it's like watching that kid Kevin: Boy, do I ever Erich: who has the cool toy that you know you don't have and you can't afford to have right now, but you're gonna just enjoy it for what it's worth. Mestamaker was incr he was great all game. I I you know, I don't know when we start talking about Mesta Maker for Heisman. I'm I I feel like he's right up there with me with Camario Taylor. Like, you know, especially after a little bit of a come down for Shameless and O'miss. You know, I I I think both those guys are deserving of it. And w we'll talk about Super Camario in a little bit with their categories, I think. but you were right about this game. You even said that you'd think they would win by at least 10, so you even nailed that aspect of it. I was wrong. And I still love that West Virginia team. I still think they could be a nine win team just based off what they can do. If Michael they had some knockout punches early that if Michael Hawkins just he just missed. And if he hits those, it's probably a different game because now like there's like they'd go up seven, they'd get a stop, and then they have a chance to go up fourteen and then Michael Hawkins would miss on like like a wide open throw that the guy would have just been in for the end zone. And then Oklahoma State allowed Oklahoma State to hang around. So I don't That's the thing with a running quarterback is they just, you know, they're not the best passers. And Michael Hawkins isn't a great passer, but he just hasn't had a game where he's missed those moments. And when you're gonna just be running the ball and you only have those two or three moments and you do miss, especially in a game like this, that was the difference to me. So the team with the in this one, the team with the best QB one, that's how I would frame it. Kevin: Absolutely agree with everything you said there, Eric. What a huge program result for Oklahoma State. This was their first Big 12 win since 2023. Let that sink in for a second. So happy for that program. Love when Erich: Should have been a ranked game, by the way. Like the both these teams should are top twenty five teams. This like it's ridiculous. Kevin: Yes. This was an old school Big 12 shootout, which made that conference so fun for so many years. Eric Morris really has things going at Oklahoma Erich: So good. Kevin: State. Like you mentioned, Sean Brophy, the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, is phenomenal. And so is obviously Rich Rod and the Mountaineers. I think for the future, Rich Rod and and they're on the right track. He gets a couple more transfers in there, some recruits where they can just be a little better on defense. Like Oklahoma State's a little further ahead defensively with what Eric Morris was able to bring from North Texas and the continuity there. Once Richrod can get that in place more, then to your point, Michael Hawkins doesn't need to be as perfect offensively. You run for 334, because that's what happened in this game. Oklahoma State keeps pouring it on, pouring it on, and and that puts a little pressure on West Virginia to throw a little bit more than they'd like to. But man The Cowboys, I was thinking this this reminds me of the like the twenty ten era of Br Brandon Erich: Yeah. Kevin: Brandon Whedon, Justin Blackman, Kendall Hunter, that dynamic trio, which is now Mesta Maker, Caleb Hawkins in the backfield ran for he ran wild, I think one eighty, and then Wyatt Young out at receiver almost had two hundred yards receiving. Mesti Maker almost two for 400. So that's that's the modern day dynamic trio, if you will. And what a run in the second half. I think it was 20. They went Erich: twenty they went on a twenty eight Tad one. Yeah. But really Kevin: on a 28-10 run, but really fun game. These are two good teams. I agree. Top 25. This was a big swing swing game to see who can really make a run at a surprise Big 12 championship run. But happy with my pokes, like we said. Erich: This was a big swing game swing game to see if we can really make a run and a surprise Big Twelve Championship run. But happy with my folks, like I said, didn't look for the print first trouble. To your point that you just made, we're still finding out so much about these teams. It's the nature of college football, guilty of it. Talk on this show, I'm gonna be wrong, gonna think this and that, and that's each Saturday. Kevin: Didn't look great versus Tulsa. And to your point that you just made, we're still finding out so much about these teams. It's the nature of college football. We're guilty of it. We talk on this show. We're gonna be wrong. We're gonna think this and that. And that's each Saturday, new narratives are formed and and you just never know. But what a win. Forty one twenty four for the Cowboys in Morgantown. And I'm I'm I'm excited, really excited about them going forward. Erich: Narratives are formed and and you just never know. But twenty-four for the Cowboy and Morgan Town. I'm I'm I'm excited. I'm really excited about how no extra version. I am as well, and I know it probably stings for West Virginia fans, but I think in the hope that they are still hopeful because there is a lot for them to be hopeful, especially if you look at the rest of the Big Twelve right now. I still think Nine wins is very, very achievable for them. And then, like you said, you keep building. I will say, boy, did West Virginia miss Hammond Russell in the middle on their defense, who obviously is starting defensive tackle for Wisconsin. And you got to see him in action in the game we talked about earlier. They could have used his push up the middle. and obviously they did not have it. So that's that game. Let's get to our whip arounds, Kevin, and let's start with the SEC. I guess like we always do. we talked about Texas versus Tennessee twenty seventeen. Georgia forty one, Oklahoma thirteen. You and I were both on that. We just thought and we hadn't really seen him against a real real opponent, yes, I guess you can say, but I don't know, you're probably gonna have a hard time calling someone a real opponent against Georgia for many games this year because Georgia appears to be I don't know if they're in their twenty one, twenty twenty two peak, but They look really, really good on both sides of the ball. And to me, after seeing, you know, you want to argue how Texas has looked still consistent. I'm starting to think maybe your pick of them winning the SEC championship this year over Texas is looking more and more correct every week. do you wanna talk about that game at all? Kevin: I think you pretty much said everything. Georgia's in a different weight class than Oklahoma. Oklahoma has a w a world of problems right now with John Matthew and that offense and Brent Venable's trying to figure things out. It's it's it's ugly down there and we we knew that had a chance to go that way. And it it certainly did. Georgia is Erich: Yeah. Kevin: is is scary. Looking forward to them to to play someone a little bit more on their level for sure, but they're absolutely it's Georgia, so they're gonna be ready. Erich: Agreed. Well I want to talk about Kevin: I want to talk about fli Florida old mess. Erich: Yeah, no, that that was the next one up. let's talk about it because boy. The swamp is back. Let's just say it. Kevin: The swamp is a hundred percent back. We were just talking about the quick fixes that you can make at a USC or Miami. John Summerell has done that in Gainesville basically overnight. Erich: Summeral has done that in games though. Yep. Kevin: This Erich: And these are the same players as last year's team with Napier. So this is why we say coaching matters. You can see it with this team. Kevin: Mm. No, a hundred a hundred percent. You know, Philo's new at quarterback, but it's not like he was a crown jewel by by any means in the portal. what Buster Faulkner's doing, as you mentioned, offensively, now with better athletes. Erich: I gotta imagine he's so sought after for head coaching hires this coming offseason. So Florida, enjoy this while he's there. Kevin: Yes. And we know how much coordinators matter. So Erich: Yeah. Kevin: he's helping John Summer look really good. They didn't just beat Ole Miss. They dismantled them. Erich: Yeah. Kevin: There's ran rough shot over 300 yards. And Jaden Ball got f some help from his friend Duke Clark. Also went over a hundred yards. That is a tough backfield. They are they are a load. This was really A game we we felt super, super confident about. It's crazy to Erich: Yeah. Kevin: say that versus the number four team, but there wasn't I can't recall a worse situational spot in recent memory than the circus that was laying Kiffen in town. You win that and you gotta go to this Florida team. There there was no chance. They were never winning this game, period. I if I was a betting person, everything on this game never felt more confident. Kudos to Ole Misk fighting back, cutting it to 24-21, but it just never felt like they were going to win this game. Florida immediately answered with that long kick return and then scored. And then former Penn State commit Jaden Woods had a sack and fumble on the next Rebels possession, and that sequence blew the game wide open. And just for good measure, Florida scored a couple more times to get to 52 points on the Rebels, which thought maybe they figured out some of their defensive concerns versus LSU. Erich: For Pennsylvania commit Jaden Woods had a sack and fumble in the next rebel session, and that seems like the game wide open and just good match or floor to scored a couple more fifty points on the rebels, which thought maybe they figured out some of their defensive concerns versus LSU. Kevin: They obviously came back in this game. They their rush defense and pass defense that was vulnerable vers versus Louisville. It showed up, but this Florida Erich: They obviously came back in this game rush defense and pass defense that was all for smooth. Kevin: team is absolutely for real. This isn't some feel good story or anything. Mm they're looking like a playoff team. Erich: No, it's not. I want to call out too that Philo missed a couple passes early on drives that could have put this game away way earlier than it was. Amy. Kevin: That fourth down was a great call. Erich: Yeah, I mean that and then that would been a touchdown, but then the drive before that, he missed the guy deep. Kevin: Deep num yeah, mm-hmm. Erich: Yeah, so it I mean if he hits those, this game could have got real ugly real fast. And and really those misses are what allowed Ole Miss to at least initially come back a little bit. and then I don't know about you, but the world's largest cocktail party is starting to look like a real cocktail party this year. Kevin: I Erich: That game. Who knows what's gonna be on the line for that game? But holy cow, that's gonna be awesome. And it it's crazy talking about it already, but man, that's gonna be great. Kevin: That's that's how that game should be. I'll close by saying Pete Golding, I don't know if you heard, but he was questioning Ole Miss's toughness after the game to the media. And and I don't mm-hmm. Yep. And I Erich: Okay. Well, you're the head coach now, Golding. Cause 'cause you know who didn't have a letdown this week? Your former head coach, Lane Kiffin, just beat Kevin: Yeah. Yep. Erich: the crap out of Texas AM. Kevin: Mm-hmm. Erich: 35 to 6. I don't know if I I'm ready to put the fraud stamp on AM. you know, people were making the claim last year. We you know, we you and I had both said, I'm not really sure how good Marcel Reid is. They were kind of scheduled darlings, and you know, they every coach that got fired in the SEC last year, they played. they I I don't know where would you rank them in the SEC right now? I guess maybe ahead of Vanderbilt. Kevin: There's somewhere below fifteen for sure out of wait or wait, there's sixteen I always think there's Erich: I I think I'd rank them ahead of Vanderbilt, and I'm going to be nice and say Oklahoma and South Carolina. But I think Kevin: Yeah. Erich: every other team right now I'd rank ahead of them just in terms of the body of work. And I'm not saying Kevin: No Erich: it stays there. It's not, it's not a static thing. It can move. but they looked awful. LSU looked great. you and I both thought that the loss at Ole Miss isn't the end of the world for LSU. They have plenty of opportunities to get it right. I don't know that LSU is. I I I still think they're behind Florida. I think they're behind Georgia. You know, them against Bama would be interesting. You know, them against but I I still think they're top four or five SEC. And it just you never, you know, when you're in top four, five, you get a couple things to go your way, and you you know, who knows? Maybe you're playing in the conference championship. But LSU clearly has what it takes to to keep going. And again, the people that were acting like Sam Levitz is bad quarterback after last week, like just stop. Like Lane knows what he's doing. And you should be very happy he's there. Kevin: Amen to that. Great bounce back for LSU. Figured that. Never thought that game would be close. Picked a blowout. It was a blowout. I've never felt better about my 7-5 and AM prediction. They're just simply bad. You could, they Erich: Yeah. Kevin: were fortunate. That ASU game was a mirage. They are not a good football team in any sense of the word. to where I was wrong, South Carolina covering. Yikes, kudos to Bama. Laid the wood there. 49. Erich: I was gonna ask you on that 'cause I was I couldn't remember if you said they were gonna cover in a positive way or if they were gonna 'cause we talked about it in your point spread letdown. so I wasn't sure which way you were on that. Okay, and you clarified. So thank you. Kevin: maybe I maybe I put that in the wrong slot last week, but yeah, I should have rolled with the Demon Deacons. I just didn't want to do that two weeks in a row, as I think I mentioned. I should have, 'cause Erich: Yeah. Kevin: we'll touch on that with the ACC whip around. Mississippi State keeps rolling the cowbells much closer than we thought. Erich: Much closer, but Super Camario was Super Camario as we thought. So Kevin: Correct. Yes, he was. I love their scheme. They're tough. Kudos to Mizzou. They they did come to play. Interest You know, came down. Erich: They did. Austin Simmons played really well. Kevin: Austin Simmons played really well. They had a shot on the final drive, thrown into the end zone. That was a really tough environment. Saw this fact though from Brett Siensia over at Pick Six Previews. He does a phenomenal job. He's got a great preview magazine that's kind of been going up against Phil Steele and Athlon and all those guys the last number of years. Eli Drinkwitz, he said, is 0 16 in his career versus SEC teams that finish with a winning record. Now we don't know if Mississippi State is going to finish with a winning record, but it certainly looks like they will. And that's something Erich: Yeah. Kevin: to keep in mind for the folks in Columbia with Eli Drinkwitz. Be been a bit of a schedule, darling, as well Erich: Well, yeah. Kevin: at Mizzou. And that that stat bears that out. Anything else you wanted to talk about in the SEC? Erich: No Auburn gets I guess their win over Vanderbilt. Ugly. Kentucky started real slow and then put it on strong and then Arkansas beats Tulsa, which the ironic thing about that is if you were having Arkansas play Oklahoma State today, you no way in heck you'd pick Arkansas, but that's why you can't just be a score watcher and assume Kevin: Yes. Erich: that things are gonna matchups matter. Big ten, Indiana versus Northwestern. Had them on obviously a point spread letdown this week. Indiana's not as good as they were last year. I think we can confidently say that the run game's not quite as dominant, although they ended up having a lot of rushing yards or some big runs that inflated that. their passing game just isn't as efficient. It's not as lethal. I still think they're a really good team and I think they have a pretty good defense. But Northwestern was able to pass on them pretty effectively, especially in the second half. So we'll see how that. Ages? I d I don't know what to say other than if it w wasn't that weird safety start, I Northwestern could have won that game. Like that's that's just the reality. So I'm really interested to see, you know, these people that are picking Indiana to repeat the national championship this year. Right now, to me, that's not on the cards. They could still finish ten and two. I I think that's very much on the cards, but we'll we'll see where that goes from there. Anything you want to add? Kevin: Yeah, Indiana looks vulnerable to, you know, pla playing against quarterbacks that can extend plays. Aiden Aiden Childs is a true difference maker for a Northwestern quarterback. He was that was maybe the best game of his career. 22 of 29 for almost 300 yards. He was efficient. He picked apart that defense. And like Kurt Signetti said after the game, he said we simply couldn't tackle the quarterback. And and going forward for the Hoosiers, the Turbo Richard injury, I'm I don't know if there's a diagnosis there, but that didn't look good. Erich: No. Kevin: Like like maybe a bad ankle injury. Good thing for the emergence of Lee B jr. He ran for over two hundred yards. Helps obviously you always need depth at at running back. And without his seventy yarder late, I agree. North Northwestern could have got out of there with the biggest upset of Erich: The week, yeah. Kevin: of of the weekend, no doubt. let's see, what else what else we got going on? I wanna touch on Ohio State. and I I think I think some things are starting to r to To show up for some of these teams obviously now in and conference play. They might be too dependent on Jeremiah Smith. f I mean Erich: They a hundred percent are. They can't run well. Julian Saiyan isn't a dual threat quarterback, and it's Jeremiah Smith or nothing for them. Kevin: Yeah, two hundred and seventeen yards and four touchdowns. Yes, that's fun. It's great for the highlight shows and the stats and all those things that Erich: Mm-hmm. Kevin: you know those that crowd likes. They gave a four hundred and sixty two yards to Illinois and twenty five first downs. Ill Erich: And I I guess an Illinois team that I just don't think is very good either. That's what I'd also like to call. And Kevin: No. Yeah. Erich: it was at OSU. So Kevin: Correct. Caden Houser is solid at quarterback. You know, he's I'll I'll give them that. But Illinois doesn't put up those type of numbers in Columbus when Ohio State is is the real deal. So something to keep an eye out, in Columbus as w as they get into the meat of their schedule, but you know that's a discussion point for Ohio State fans today. Erich: Agreed. most next three games we covered already, Maryland. I I don't know who's gonna get fired first this year, Greg Shino or Mike Loxley. Minnesota, great win on the road. Washington just came out horribly. They lose twenty seven twenty four and they went down fourteen zero like immediately. you and I have talked about there's something going on in Washington. It just doesn't look right. And you know what though, like kudos to Minnesota. That's probably not one that they felt great about going into the year where it was just like, you know, Mississippi State, we're not sure. This one. So instead of being two and two, you're three and one. That's much better. You know, it sounds like it's this close, but it much better, especially as you're looking at ahead, like, you know, who can we get maybe that we aren't supposed to? And I I think I think we are now entering the point of the year where Washington is in for a long year as we move forward. Kevin: I agree. They they look bad. And Mike Loxley, if if he still has a job tomorrow after that 54-3 debacle at home, you UCLA Erich: Yeah. Kevin: comes across the country. I know they're improved with Bob Jesney, but but that's gotta be it for Locks. Erich: It was terrible. I mean, it is th those the kids clearly don't care. yeah. So we'll we'll see what happens there. Big twelve, Utah thirty one, Iowa State 17. That game actually got interesting. Utah was up like twenty four three at halftime. And at one point it was twenty four seventeen before Utah finally like got out of that rut and win. Road win in the conference, though. I I think if I'm a Utah fan, I'm I'm happy with it. Get out of there. That's that's probably as far as you're gonna travel this year. So they get to win there. we talked about Oklahoma State versus West Virginia. You had predicted, I gotta imagine you and I text you this. Baylor 23, Colorado 13. I think going to the last two games of the year, Colorado's gonna be two and eight. I can't imagine Dion gets out of Boulder this year without without losing his job. they changed their quarterback. You know, they brought in the new offensive coordinator to try to make things smoother. It just it didn't play out. I so we'll see what happens there. But if you look at the their schedule coming up, they're playing pretty much all the teams that look good in the Big Twelve coming up. So this was a tough stop for them. And clearly Georgia Tech's not very good, and that win doesn't look very good anymore for Colorado, which is why we shouldn't overreact to wins and losses early. anything you want to add to to Dion? Kevin: No, I don't want to waste my time with him. Erich: Ha ha. Kevin: the Cincinnati Bearcats going to Manhattan. That's a big Erich: Yeah. Kevin: win for them. 31 26. We'll see what they do going forward. Arizona, it's never tough to or I mean, excuse me, it's always tough to play on the Palooce. They go into Pullman. Get a ten point win, so that's a good recovery for them. UCF looked awful last week. Rebound with a road win at TCU. So not a ton of couple surprising results. Erich: Couple surprising results there, couple surprising results. Kevin: Yeah. into into the ACC, those Demon Deacons, what a road win at Louisville. I think that Erich: Yep. This is why we shouldn't crown teams early. Cause everyone was like, Yep, it's all Miami and it's all Louisville. No, it's it's all Kevin: Myself included. Erich: Miami, but like there's still like Louisville is just you know, people are acting like they're this like blue bud. They're not. Yeah, yes, they had a great win. But and then you have to look at this too, you're like, Yes, they almost put it together against Ole Miss. Ole Miss just got thumped by Florida. And now Louisville loses to Wake Forest. And now people were complaining about how Miami didn't beat Wake Forest by 30 points can calm down on that too. I think there's plenty of parity below Miami in that conference. And yeah, Louisville is a really good team, but they're not a cut above of everyone else in their conference like Miami is. Kevin: No, and Jeff Brahm has a propensity to lose these games as Erich: Yes. Kevin: a favorite at home. You have mentioned that before. I was on the Louisville train. Th thought this I I knew Wake Forest was a good team, picked him to cover versus Miami. Should have gone with him again here. The d the Demon Deacons, they they rolled right into Louisville and Jake Dickard did a really nice job at Wazoo when he took over as an interim coach in twenty one. You know, had a seven-win season, eight-win season. That's not easy to do out there. The second quarter is when everything flipped. I mean, Wake had things rolling. They scored 21 Erich: that you can do out there that this is working everything's flexible so Kevin: in that quarter. Carlos Hernandez was the offensive catalyst. He was unreal in that game. Gio Lopez continues to be strong. but yeah, they connected on the 30-yard field goal by Matthew Calvert with I think there was like six six twenty to go in that game and were able to get the defensive stops to win it. So tough loss for Louisville at home. I believe they were like. Erich: to and that came and for able to get the defensive stops by that so tough off a goal. I think they were like Kevin: Twelve and a half point favorites. Erich: twelve and a half points. That's a great win and maybe seemed like you said a little more wide open than my certain Kevin: So watch out for Jake Dickert and the Demon Deacons. That's a great win. And maybe the ACC, like you said, is a little more wide open than than I certainly was giving credit for. and and I should know that about the ACC. I just thought Louisville Erich: Yeah. Kevin: maybe had taken a step this year, but they're good, but yeah, lot of ball to be played. Erich: Well let's get into the group of six. Boise thumps Western Michigan. Boise clearly the group of six favorite right now in terms of going to the playoff. I think I I don't know who in the pack twelve is gonna I well, I guess we're still kind of the pack twelve is gonna beat Boise. I don't I don't see any anyone doing it really. I don't know if you feel differently. but Western Michigan was probably their last like main challenger and and they passed that with flying colors. the Rio Grande battle, Kevin. Jason Ack thumped New Mexico State. New Kevin: Mm-hmm, saw that. Erich: Mexico d dominates New Mexico State. And boy, it would have been God, it's just it's too bad their starting QB got injured going into the year. Because then I think you'd really have this. one two punch option in the group of six with those two teams because New Mexico's really, really good, especially for a group of six team. And they're even without their starting QB, they're still playing really well. So kudos to them, Jason Eck. I have to imagine he's gonna be as this goes here, he's gonna be another one that's highly sought after. There was rumors about Arkansas maybe going after him last year when they were hiring. Boy, I'm sure those fans would have wished they'd done that now, just with what's going on there. But great win for them. Anyone else you want to talk about in the group of six? Kevin: Yeah, Jason X a terrific coach. no, just Boise is is so good. They just rolled into Kalamazoo and womped them and I I just have so much belief in them week to week. They're so well coached and they just have ball players and I I love that team. Erich: I do as well. And yes, the must the the Bronco Bowl, if you will, was one sided. So one Kevin: One sided. Erich: one sides Broncos genetics were clearly better than the others in this one. great colors by the way, between the both those teams as we go here. So categories. Let's do Kevin, let's do where you were right and wrong first. Why don't you go and then I will. Kevin: Where I was right. I bounced back this week. This is much better. Florida called that. Oklahoma State was proud of that pick. Oregon going into USC. Boise we just talked about. Texas getting it done at Tennessee. Mississippi State. LSU and Georgia were easier picks, but definitely proud of the the Oregon, Oklahoma State, Florida, maybe, you know, more of the the toss up level games, but felt really good about those and and it and it showed. How about you? Where were you right this week, Eric? Erich: So was was dead on with the Indiana spread. I I said no way they're gonna come close to twenty-one points, and I felt pretty good about that five minutes into the game. And so I was right about that. Florida, obviously, you and I were both on with that. Mississippi State, you know, we thought they'd win by a little bit more, but we we were real confident that they were gonna win that game against Mizzou. The Oklahoma bad spot against Georgia, you night were all over that. The AM getting dominated. against LSU. We were both right about that. And then I was right about Utah winning by way more than the four and a half than was predicted. I may just thought that was a ridiculous spread from what we had seen from both those teams. It got a little ugly initi at some point, but they held up for me. In regard to where I was wrong, I was wrong about West Virginia. I I thought they would use their home field advantage in Morgantown there to beat Oklahoma State. USC. I thought that, you know, I was kind of falling for the same allure you were falling for. I was like, yeah, they're gonna beat Oregon. Oregon hasn't shown me anything. I was I was wrong about that. I picked against my team against Penn State. So I was clearly wrong there. And then I was on Western Michigan. I thought again, home, travel for Boise. I thought their defense would be better than it was. And yeah, so wrong about that as well. How about you? Kevin: Wrong about my team, Penn State. Wrong about Michigan. Lost on the final play at home to Iowa. And wrong about South Carolina covering. They lost by 31 instead. So don't Erich: Ha ha. Kevin: do that again. Letdown of the week. Erich: Hopefully one of these weeks hopefully one of these weeks one of us goes like eight and one with our predictions or something like that. That'd be fun. Kevin: That that would that would be. Erich: Well, I I think we know who your letdown of the week is gonna be, so why don't we let you go? Kevin: It is, of course, my team. Gotta still sport the gear this morning, win or lose. It's dark times here. And Erich: Ha ha. Kevin: living in Milwaukee, it's been so great having 15 years of bragging rights. And and what's really gonna hurt this week is and you're not like this, but we've talked about this, like now the Badger fans will come out of the woodwork. Erich: Yeah. Kevin: Yeah, no mention, it's all about the Packers around here and no one talks about college football. You're the only still the only Wisconsin fan I know to this day that watches and follows your team every week, follows the whole scene. You're not biased, you're fair about your team. I haven't heard one thing about Wisconsin football lately for for years, and but now but now going into work tomorrow, they'll all of a sudden have a team. And and and I I'll Erich: Yeah. Kevin: have I'll have to hear about that. So It's a big letdown for me here in Milwaukee as a Penn State fan. but coo I am happy for you, Eric, and who is your letdown? Erich: I'm gonna go with Louisville, just because they had an opportunity here to really cement themselves as the one A option in in the ACC and they lost. And now you have to ask yourself, well, how wide open is the ACC? So whenever you have that opportunity to kind of just like hammer in, I mean there was people saying that like I mean they're gonna finish eleven and one, right? And they'll be playing against Miami, like and it's like nope. They're not going to finish 11 1. Now 10 and 2 is ceiling, and I think if you look at their schedule, you can't just assume that they have gimmings along the way. So that is my letdown of the week, Louisville. Most impressive team. We have the same one. How can how can you not pick Florida at this point? Body work so far the season. you know, obviously they were at home, but the Chomp is back, the swamp is back. I love it. I mean, it's a great program. The fans are rabid. It's a great stadium. They have some of the best jersey colors in in the league. Incredible logo. And, you know, again, this is it just makes the SEC so much more fun when the Floridas and the Auburns and the Tennessees of the world are are better, right? Like we no one wants to go back to just Georgia Bama. Like no one wants that. And right now it looks like that's where we are. And Florida's super impressive. Yeah, they you know, they gave up some points, but I I just don't think there's a team in the country that's gonna be able to keep Ole Miss from scoring less than like twenty four to twenty eight. Like when you have Superman at quarterback like they do, how can you do that? So to me, like even on defense, I think Florida does some things that are impressive. What about you? Kevin: you said everything about Florida. the the the Gator Chomp is back. It it makes no sense when Florida's four and eight like they were last year. Erich: Yeah. Kevin: And and so I I'm I'm happy they're back. College football is better with them and just makes the SEC race that much more interesting. With that said, Eric, cannot wait for week five. We roll into October. Erich: Yep. Kevin: The weather has certainly changed. in my neck of the woods here. It's starting to change in different places around the country. The leaves starting to turn ever so slightly. Get into that crisp fall college football Saturdays. We're well into conference play now after this week and the matchups and the stakes only get bigger from here. Erich: On Saturdays we're well in the conference play now after this week and the matchups and the stakes only get bigger from here. I love it. We will see you guys on the preview show for week five. Kevin: Thanks for listening, everybody. We'll see ya.
