- 0:07Speaker 2: Texas to eight one five three zero, followed by your message.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Standard message and data rates may apply.
- 0:20Speaker 2: All right. Back to some more sound from Longhorn's head coach,
- 0:25Speaker 2: Steve Sarkisian.
- 0:27Speaker 1: We'll do that.
- 0:28Speaker 2: And before we do that, I didn't want to forget it.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Wanted to make sure that we made you aware of
- 0:38Speaker 2: your chance to win a pair of tickets to see
- 0:45Speaker 2: Brooks and Done and that comes up on March fourteenth
- 0:51Speaker 2: at Moody Center. And here's how you can be in
- 0:54Speaker 2: the drawing to try to win tickets for it. You
- 0:57Speaker 2: download the iHeartRadio app on your smartphone. Evan already done that.
- 1:00Speaker 2: And even if you do have it, or once you
- 1:03Speaker 2: get it downloaded, you search for AM thirteen under the zone.
- 1:05Speaker 2: You tap that red button that has a white microphone
- 1:09Speaker 2: in it, and then just leave us a message with
- 1:10Speaker 2: the keyword that you heard here on this program. Today's
- 1:14Speaker 2: keyword is moon moon, So any there you go, like
- 1:20Speaker 2: neon moon as in neon Moon. That's exactly right. The
- 1:22Speaker 2: brooksn't done hit, So that's all you have to do. Again,
- 1:26Speaker 2: AM thirteen under the zone, you pull it up there
- 1:28Speaker 2: to the iHeartRadio app, tap that red button with a
- 1:31Speaker 2: white microphone, and you leave us a voice message that's
- 1:34Speaker 2: on the talk back and you say I heard it,
- 1:36Speaker 2: that it is Moon and that's exactly what it is.
- 1:41Speaker 2: So with that, now we go back to hearing from
- 1:46Speaker 2: head coach Steve Sarcasian from the Wednesday or Thursday media zoom.
- 1:52Speaker 2: It's his final media meeting of the week and does
- 1:58Speaker 2: that on a zoom and he was asked about the
- 2:02Speaker 2: running backs, how have they looked in practice and how
- 2:06Speaker 2: imperative does he believe it is to get the running
- 2:09Speaker 2: game going against Vanderbilt.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I have a ton of respect for well, it'd be helpful,
- 2:17Speaker 3: you know, I've said before. You know, we're always at
- 2:19Speaker 3: our best when we have balance, and you know, I
- 2:24Speaker 3: think the run game kind of got the spotlight put
- 2:28Speaker 3: on it because of the way last week went. You know,
- 2:32Speaker 3: we had thirty eight yards at half and I don't
- 2:34Speaker 3: care how we got those thirty eight yards. Nothing was
- 2:36Speaker 3: really good the run game, nor the past game. But
- 2:39Speaker 3: when you're behind twenty three to nothing, you kind of
- 2:41Speaker 3: have to throw it to try to get back into
- 2:43Speaker 3: the game. I thought in there there was a few
- 2:45Speaker 3: runs that got going for us, But the reality of
- 2:48Speaker 3: it is we need to play better offensive football. And
- 2:51Speaker 3: part of playing better offensive football is finding that balance
- 2:56Speaker 3: and running the football with effectiveness, trying to find some
- 2:59Speaker 3: explosive of runs. And I think the runners are ready
- 3:02Speaker 3: to go with I think the lines ready to go.
- 3:03Speaker 3: It's obviously been a you know, they've been challenged all week,
- 3:05Speaker 3: predicated on how last week went, and uh looking forward
- 3:08Speaker 3: to them uh taking the field and and with something
- 3:11Speaker 3: to prove that that that we're a physical football team.
- 3:14Speaker 1: We can run the ball well.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Speaking of challenges, he was asked about the challenge of
- 3:17Speaker 2: facing that dual threat quarterback that tough as nails, senior
- 3:21Speaker 2: transfer Diego Pavia.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I have a ton of respect for Diego Pavia.
- 3:25Speaker 3: You know he he's a real dual threat, you know
- 3:29Speaker 3: he Uh he the the designed runs at quarterback are
- 3:32Speaker 3: one thing. The triple option aspect of what they do
- 3:36Speaker 3: is another thing. And then the scramble ability to extend
- 3:40Speaker 3: drives is a is a third element that he has.
- 3:42Speaker 3: And then to couple that with his ability to throw
- 3:44Speaker 3: the ball, uh and extend plays and throw the ball.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Uh.
- 3:47Speaker 3: That the key to the drill to me is I
- 3:49Speaker 3: think being really disciplined. You know, you got to be
- 3:51Speaker 3: disciplined in the run game and your run fits. You
- 3:54Speaker 3: got to be disciplined in the in the triple option game,
- 3:57Speaker 3: and then you've got to be disciplined in your rush
- 3:59Speaker 3: lanes and trying to collapse that pocket and not give
- 4:01Speaker 3: them anywhere to escape.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Okay, all right now. He was asked questions about motivation,
- 4:08Speaker 2: you know, coming off the loss to Georgia as motivation,
- 4:12Speaker 2: and this was our friend Cedric Golden asked the question, said,
- 4:15Speaker 2: you know that it's not I think he said, it's
- 4:16Speaker 2: not our grandparents Vanderbilt, and it isn't. And does it
- 4:21Speaker 2: help facing a team that's no longer a pushover?
- 4:24Speaker 3: Well, I think for us, we don't know any different.
- 4:27Speaker 3: You know, we didn't play Vanderbilt. Our guys don't know.
- 4:29Speaker 3: All they know is this is the top twenty five
- 4:31Speaker 3: matchup on the road with a sellout crowd, you know,
- 4:34Speaker 3: So we know that the challenge that we're faced with.
- 4:38Speaker 3: We know what's on tape and what they look like.
- 4:40Speaker 3: And so we're not players that have that have played
- 4:42Speaker 3: against Vanderbilt. They just know that, Hey, here's the top
- 4:44Speaker 3: twenty five team that beat Alabama, that beat Kentucky, that
- 4:47Speaker 3: probably should have beat Missouri.
- 4:49Speaker 1: We know it's going to be a heck of a challenge,
- 4:52Speaker 1: all right.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Next on the list was finding success on the road.
- 4:56Speaker 2: This was our colleague Roger Wallace asked this question about
- 5:00Speaker 2: about the Keys to try to find success on the road,
- 5:02Speaker 2: because they've been able to do that not only this
- 5:05Speaker 2: season but in the past.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:07Speaker 3: No, I think one thing we've we've found a kind
- 5:10Speaker 3: of our rhythm on the road, and I think there's
- 5:11Speaker 3: something to be said when you go on the road
- 5:13Speaker 3: of you know, you only bring in seventy four guys,
- 5:16Speaker 3: you're in the friendly confines of a hotel and kind
- 5:19Speaker 3: of the visitors' locker room that's a little bit kind
- 5:21Speaker 3: of smaller in that sense, and the sidelines there's less people,
- 5:25Speaker 3: feels a little bit more intimate that way.
- 5:28Speaker 1: But I think our guys embraced going on road. You know,
- 5:31Speaker 1: we're we.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Are the University of Texas. We go on the road,
- 5:34Speaker 3: the game's going to be sold out. They're gonna be
- 5:37Speaker 3: sold out because their fans buy a lot. It's going
- 5:39Speaker 3: to be sold out because Longhorn Nation supports us as well.
- 5:43Speaker 3: As they do, and so we appreciate that and we
- 5:45Speaker 3: need their support Saturday. So I just think that that
- 5:48Speaker 3: we found our rhythm. I think we've embraced the challenges
- 5:51Speaker 3: on the road when we do go on the road,
- 5:54Speaker 3: and I think we played with a lot of confidence
- 5:56Speaker 3: on the road. And so we're excited about this one again,
- 5:59Speaker 3: top twenty five match ship on the road, sell out crowd.
- 6:02Speaker 1: We're looking forward to the opportunity, all right.
- 6:04Speaker 2: He was also asked about a mental hurdle with the
- 6:09Speaker 2: fact that Quinn Youwers had mentioned maybe he didn't feel
- 6:14Speaker 2: like he was psychologically as well as physically all the
- 6:17Speaker 2: way back coming off the injury. So is there a
- 6:20Speaker 2: mental hurdle that a quarterback has to overcome in that situation?
- 6:23Speaker 3: Well, I think, you know, hey, we're we're going into
- 6:26Speaker 3: game number eight. I don't know if the guy on
- 6:28Speaker 3: our team is one hundred percent, you know. So the
- 6:31Speaker 3: life of a competitor is a football player. You learn
- 6:34Speaker 3: to operate with those things that are that are going
- 6:37Speaker 3: on with you. An ankle, a calf, a shoulder, a knee,
- 6:40Speaker 3: an oblique, you know, whatever, you know, stingers, you know
- 6:43Speaker 3: there there's we've they've all got stuff, and so I
- 6:46Speaker 3: don't think but by any means, and I don't know
- 6:48Speaker 3: how the question was phrased.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Do I think Quinn was using that as a crutch
- 6:52Speaker 1: or an excuse.
- 6:53Speaker 3: I just think that's the reality of We're in week
- 6:55Speaker 3: eight of a season and everybody's dealing with stuff. But
- 6:58Speaker 3: I thought Quinn's have a good week of work. I
- 7:01Speaker 3: think he's really dialed into the game plan. I think
- 7:04Speaker 3: he's playing with a lot of confidence. And again I'm
- 7:06Speaker 3: looking forward to him to get in another opportunity as
- 7:10Speaker 3: a competitor, uh to go back out and compete at.
- 7:13Speaker 1: A high level.
- 7:13Speaker 2: And one final comment asked about Cedric Alexander and we
- 7:17Speaker 2: did see on the injury report today that Cedric's listed
- 7:21Speaker 2: as questionable, but we're all pretty much expecting to see
- 7:24Speaker 2: him out there the LBJ product. And he was asked
- 7:26Speaker 2: about the threat that Alexander brings to this game.
- 7:30Speaker 3: I really liked him as a player. You know, he's
- 7:32Speaker 3: obviously a very good runner. But but one area where
- 7:36Speaker 3: you know, I try to evaluate kind of players is
- 7:39Speaker 3: watching block This guy's a really physical blocker.
- 7:42Speaker 1: You know, they a lot of the quarterback run stuff
- 7:44Speaker 1: they do.
- 7:44Speaker 3: He's a lead blocker, a physical player, plays hard, runs hard,
- 7:49Speaker 3: you know, kind of embodies I think the style of
- 7:52Speaker 3: play that that Vanderbilt is trying to play with. You know,
- 7:54Speaker 3: they're a physical team. They play with great effort and
- 7:58Speaker 3: and I think he's he's had it. He's had a
- 7:59Speaker 3: great so far. So it's gonna be a good challenge
- 8:02Speaker 3: for us.
- 8:03Speaker 2: So we'll see. We'll see obviously if he's good to go.
- 8:06Speaker 2: He is listed as questionable for the game, but I
- 8:09Speaker 2: have a feeling we'll probably see him out there.
