- 0:02Speaker 2: Thanks to Craveworthy Street Food.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Freshly made with Reburger.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Welcome to the Hauraki Big Show with.
- 0:13Speaker 4: Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy. Oh, g'day you mad bastards.
- 0:19Speaker 4: Great to have your company this Tuesday afternoon. It is
- 0:22Speaker 4: the 20th of October, 2026. And you, my friends, as always,
- 0:25Speaker 4: listening to the Big Show brought to you by Reburg Air.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Beef, chicken, vegan and vegetarian options as well. Reburg Air
- 0:32Speaker 1: are redefining the norm.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Reburg Air.
- 0:38Speaker 4: G'day, Mogey, you stallion. How's life?
- 0:39Speaker 3: Going pretty grousey, you mad dog, you sick son of
- 0:42Speaker 3: a bee. How good's life? Fellas? Yeah. Fellas? I was
- 0:48Speaker 3: feeling bloody terrible today, actually.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Were you?
- 0:50Speaker 3: I went and had an ice bath and a sauna. Oh, nice.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Just to try and straighten myself out there a little bit.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Not that there's anything wrong with that. And we'll be
- 0:59Speaker 3: talking about what happened to me down there later on,
- 1:02Speaker 3: but it was a shocking bastard because it reminded me
- 1:04Speaker 3: of you, Keezy. I've been over in Japan there at
- 1:07Speaker 3: the onsen, which is a place where you're fully nude. God,
- 1:11Speaker 3: it was traumatising. So looking forward to getting your input
- 1:13Speaker 3: on that. But otherwise, man, I'm going really good.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Yeah, great stuff.
- 1:16Speaker 3: I don't know about you guys, but I feel like,
- 1:17Speaker 3: I feel like, I don't know.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Don't.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I think that spring has sprung. Mate.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Mate.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Jeez, mate.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Because I know it's a little bit cloudy today, but
- 1:28Speaker 3: I think, I don't know, but I think it's going
- 1:31Speaker 3: to burn off.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, the sweat I got on walking up here,
- 1:34Speaker 4: that tells me spring has sprung.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Keezy, you love a bit of spring has sprung, man.
- 1:38Speaker 3: How you doing?
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah, good, fellas. Stoked that spring has sprung. Do you
- 1:42Speaker 1: think it has, though?
- 1:43Speaker 4: Me?
- 1:44Speaker 1: Yeah. It's been a.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Bit colder lately, I've noticed that.
- 1:47Speaker 4: It gets a bit nippy.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I've only been here for one day. So I don't know, man.
- 1:51Speaker 3: And you've been asleep for most of it.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I actually had a 13-hour sleep last night. I was
- 1:55Speaker 1: telling the fellas on the podcast outro there because yesterday
- 1:58Speaker 1: landed straight from Japan, came into work, and then just
- 2:01Speaker 1: was out. That's the longest I think I've ever slept.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Wow. What?
- 2:05Speaker 4: I don't know about that.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Come on, man.
- 2:09Speaker 4: But speaking of spring has sprung, I mean, the way
- 2:11Speaker 4: I notice it, Mokey, is when I finish work of
- 2:14Speaker 4: an evening and I'm heading home and I'm crossing the
- 2:17Speaker 4: road there with old Gheesey, just making sure he gets
- 2:20Speaker 4: across safely. I can always tell it's spring because of
- 2:23Speaker 4: the birds and the trees. Oh, that's right. It's still
- 2:26Speaker 4: light and the birds are chirping.
- 2:29Speaker 3: The birds are chirping.
- 2:30Speaker 4: That's right.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I remember this. We talk about this every year. Yeah,
- 2:33Speaker 3: it's good stuff. And I never get sick of it.
- 2:35Speaker 3: To wit, to woo.
- 2:36Speaker 4: To wit, to woo.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Good stuff, fellas. Hey, exciting show coming up.
- 2:41Speaker 4: What's happening on The Big Show? The Big Show.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Wow, we've got a new stage.
- 2:48Speaker 1: We lost the old one. It's gone forever.
- 2:50Speaker 3: We can't find it.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 2:51Speaker 3: Yeah, unfortunately. What a way to find out about it
- 2:55Speaker 3: live on air. It's throwing me. Fellas, as discussed, we're
- 2:58Speaker 3: going to be just talking about Onsen Chat, a little
- 3:00Speaker 3: bit of Onsen Chat. Keezy, you've got some more interesting
- 3:03Speaker 3: stuff to tell us about it. It's about being new, yeah.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Chase has got some follow-up information, and I've got some
- 3:07Speaker 3: questions as well.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Wow.
- 3:09Speaker 3: It's going to be pretty good. Also, stay tuned because
- 3:12Speaker 3: we are going to be doing the ITM trade-off You
- 3:15Speaker 3: listen out for the cuticle, you give us a buzz,
- 3:17Speaker 3: and you could be upgrading your most broken down shitty tool.
- 3:21Speaker 1: You tell us what tool you've got that sucks.
- 3:23Speaker 3: That's right.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And then we upgrade it for you.
- 3:24Speaker 3: There you go. All thanks to ITM. And up next,
- 3:27Speaker 3: an interesting article came out about how often people are
- 3:30Speaker 3: washing their hands after going to the toilet. And I've
- 3:33Speaker 3: got a feeling that a couple of you bastards are
- 3:35Speaker 3: a couple of shocking bastards.
- 3:37Speaker 1: People aren't washing their hands?
- 3:39Speaker 4: Well, especially after your story yesterday about doing a grogan
- 3:42Speaker 4: on your arm there, Keezy. Remember that one?
- 3:45Speaker 1: I had completely forgotten, Jase, but thanks for reminding me.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Yes, she had.
- 3:49Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Smashing pumpkins here on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this
- 3:55Speaker 4: Tuesday afternoon. The time is 4.13 and it's time for.
- 4:00Speaker 3: The Big Poll.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Yes, indeed, the Big Poll.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah, the Big Poll today is do you wash your
- 4:13Speaker 3: hands after going to the toilet, yes or no?
- 4:15Speaker 1: Yes or no? I'm terrified of finding out the answer
- 4:17Speaker 1: to this.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a little bit scary, isn't it? And the
- 4:20Speaker 3: problem is I think the vast majority of people will
- 4:23Speaker 3: probably lie in their own favour because they know that
- 4:26Speaker 3: they're meant to wash their hands after they go to
- 4:28Speaker 3: the toilet, but they probably don't. And this is off
- 4:30Speaker 3: the back of a study that's come out, been reading
- 4:32Speaker 3: up about it. And look, it's a pretty disturbing result. 27%
- 4:38Speaker 3: of men and 19% of women admit they don't always
- 4:42Speaker 3: wash their hands after doing a wee. Or having a
- 4:46Speaker 3: pee or urinating.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Or using the bathroom.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Well, no, not using the bathroom. Just number ones. Just
- 4:52Speaker 3: number ones. Thanks, Keezy. And then after a poo or
- 4:55Speaker 3: doing a steamer.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Or number twos.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Or taking a dump. Yeah, back and forth. 13% of
- 5:01Speaker 3: men and 10% of women don't wash their hands.
- 5:05Speaker 1: See, now that is messed up. Yeah.
- 5:07Speaker 3: How many times out of 10, Keezy, do you reckon
- 5:10Speaker 3: that you would wash your hands after taking a wee?
- 5:13Speaker 1: After taking a wee? Yeah. 11%. Seriously, I wash my hands.
- 5:18Speaker 3: 11 times out of 10.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I wash my hands every single time.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Well, it's interesting. And what about you, Jay? What I do, fellas.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 5:26Speaker 4: And, you know.
- 5:27Speaker 1: You're disgusting.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Well, hang on.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Well, yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 4: I urinate on my hands because urination is. Urine? Urine
- 5:37Speaker 4: sterilizes things.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Urine is actually, it's sterile. So there is no filth
- 5:43Speaker 3: in it. The only filth that's sort of associated with
- 5:45Speaker 3: urine is when you go and touch the toilet. The
- 5:47Speaker 3: problem is the touching of the toilet.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 3: So that's my workaround there, you see, and that's what
- 5:52Speaker 3: I do. So if I was a part of this survey,
- 5:56Speaker 3: I would wash my hands 0% of the time. I'd
- 5:59Speaker 3: never do it.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Are you serious?
- 6:00Speaker 3: I refuse to do it because what I do is
- 6:02Speaker 3: I sit down to get away, you see, and I
- 6:04Speaker 3: don't flush the toilet. So at no point am I
- 6:06Speaker 3: ever touching the toilet. So if anything, I'm coming out
- 6:09Speaker 3: of it cleaner than when I went in.
- 6:11Speaker 4: I don't know that.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:12Speaker 4: No, no, I understand what you're saying.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Well, hang on. So you're saying if I use a urinal,
- 6:16Speaker 1: for example.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Yes.
- 6:17Speaker 3: And you're touching that filthy little.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Because I'll always put my hands on the urinal. Yeah.
- 6:22Speaker 1: You know, I'll be touching the urinal. Because you're leaning
- 6:24Speaker 1: on it.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Because you're hammered past it. Because I'm hammered. So one
- 6:26Speaker 1: hand will just be leaning against the front of the urinal.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the other one's trying to, you know.
- 6:30Speaker 1: But the other one, it's just, I'm sort of. I
- 6:33Speaker 1: haven't touched the urinal. Just high-fiving other dudes. I'm high-fiving
- 6:35Speaker 1: other dudes with that one. So I probably only need
- 6:37Speaker 1: to wash one hand.
- 6:38Speaker 3: So you're getting it out with one hand and then
- 6:40Speaker 3: doing the leaning with the other hand?
- 6:42Speaker 1: No, same hand.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Same hand. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Holding and leaning with the same hand. Well, no, no, no.
- 6:48Speaker 1: So I don't hold. I'll just drop my pants all
- 6:50Speaker 1: the way down. Because it's just pointing straight ahead. It
- 6:52Speaker 1: just points out straight ahead. I'll just drop everything down,
- 6:54Speaker 1: one hand on the urinal. To your ankles.
- 6:57Speaker 4: If we're talking urinals, what I'll often do if I
- 7:00Speaker 4: don't urinate on my hands is, you know how they
- 7:03Speaker 4: have the little soaps?
- 7:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Urinal cake.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Yeah, a little one of the cake, and I'll just
- 7:08Speaker 4: use that and then urinate on my hands.
- 7:10Speaker 3: You'll never find a cleaner cake of soap, Keezy, because
- 7:14Speaker 3: it's absolutely covered in urine.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Soaked with urine.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Thousands of men's urine all over it. You pick that up,
- 7:20Speaker 3: your hands become cleaner. than if you had never touched
- 7:24Speaker 3: it in the first place. Now, that goes against what
- 7:26Speaker 3: you would think would be common sense.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Absolutely it does.
- 7:27Speaker 3: But it's the truth.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Wow.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Absolutely it does.
- 7:29Speaker 1: And that's the truth.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Now, Keezy, I've been to many magic rounds with you,
- 7:33Speaker 3: and you've been hammered, and I've seen you come in
- 7:35Speaker 3: and out of those bathrooms willy-nilly, never ever even looking
- 7:39Speaker 3: at the basin or the soap or washing your hands.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Is that true? I can't remember. Do you find that
- 7:45Speaker 3: the more beers you have, the less likely you are
- 7:48Speaker 3: to wash your hands?
- 7:49Speaker 1: Mogi, seriously, I'm a hand washer.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I wash hands.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Well, the one hand that has been leaning on the
- 7:56Speaker 1: urinal and that, I definitely, you know.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm clean. Okay.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Because I'm pretty sure that I have seen you do
- 8:03Speaker 4: a number two. No, you haven't.
- 8:05Speaker 1: You haven't watched me do a number two.
- 8:07Speaker 3: What are you talking about?
- 8:08Speaker 4: But you were doing it, and then you came out,
- 8:11Speaker 4: didn't wash your hands, and immediately bought a hot dog.
- 8:14Speaker 1: What?
- 8:14Speaker 4: What?
- 8:17Speaker 1: Have your say, New Zealand. Do you wash your hands
- 8:19Speaker 1: after using the bathroom? Hodaki Big Show's Instagram story.
- 8:22Speaker 3: And we're going to come back for a bit more
- 8:23Speaker 3: intense steamer chat after this.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Cool, can't wait. Linkin Park?
- 8:27Speaker 4: Yes!
- 8:30Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 8:33Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Yes indeed, Radiohead there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show
- 8:40Speaker 4: this Tuesday afternoon, the time is 4.38. Now listen, if
- 8:44Speaker 4: you need some tools upgraded, give us a call right
- 8:47Speaker 4: now on 0800 HAURAKI.
- 8:49Speaker 1: That's right, if you can pitch to us why you
- 8:50Speaker 1: think your tool needs an upgrade, we can be hooking
- 8:53Speaker 1: you up with an upgrade for that tool and also
- 8:55Speaker 1: putting you in the draw for $ 500 cash today. which
- 8:57Speaker 1: we'll be giving away at the end of the week. Fellas,
- 8:59Speaker 1: this is to celebrate ITM's massive toolbox top-up sale. It
- 9:03Speaker 1: happens every single year, October and November at your local ITM.
- 9:07Speaker 1: You can get in there, get yourself a bloody good
- 9:09Speaker 1: deal on some tools.
- 9:10Speaker 4: How bloody good, man.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Do you have any tools that need upgrading?
- 9:13Speaker 3: I've got a handsaw that hasn't been working very well.
- 9:16Speaker 1: A handsaw?
- 9:17Speaker 3: A handsaw.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Like a manual operator?
- 9:19Speaker 3: Yeah, a manual bastard there. And then I remembered, actually,
- 9:22Speaker 3: if you put a bit of soap on it, Jase.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Oh, yes.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Bit of soap across it. It works a treat.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Right, okay. So I'm all good.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Yeah, right.
- 9:31Speaker 1: So you're literally describing like a piece of metal with
- 9:33Speaker 1: teeth on the bottom.
- 9:33Speaker 3: That's a saw. A hand saw.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Have you heard of that?
- 9:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got one.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Speaking of which, I need some new saw horses.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Oh, yes.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. Because one of the legs have fallen off.
- 9:46Speaker 3: That happens when they get old.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Yeah, they do. It's just got borer all through it
- 9:50Speaker 4: and stuff. So if they've got a... A spare saw
- 9:54Speaker 4: horse or two, I'd use those, Keezy.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Actually, could I borrow your handsaw as well on that front, Mogi?
- 10:00Speaker 3: The trick is, and I was just thinking this, Jase,
- 10:01Speaker 3: you've lost one leg there. You know, if you saw
- 10:04Speaker 3: the other three off, brand new.
- 10:08Speaker 4: Good point.
- 10:08Speaker 1: It's not a horse anymore. It's more of a saw snake.
- 10:11Speaker 1: It's more of a pony. Well, no, it's not because.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Because ponies have no legs. Have you not heard about that?
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yeah, cool. That's a real thing. Once again, ITM's toolbox
- 10:21Speaker 1: top-up sale, it's on now. So get stuck in. Should
- 10:24Speaker 1: we go to the lines there, fellas, and line somebody up?
- 10:28Speaker 1: Get them a toolbox top-up there and upgrade?
- 10:30Speaker 4: That sounds like a good idea, Keezy. G'day, Cam, you
- 10:32Speaker 4: mad bastard. How's life?
- 10:35Speaker 1: Very good, fellas.
- 10:35Speaker 4: How are we going today? Yeah, good, thanks, mate. Tell me, Cam,
- 10:38Speaker 4: what do you do for a crust? I'm a chicken, mate.
- 10:41Speaker 4: So you know all about tools, don't you, Cam? Yeah,
- 10:46Speaker 4: I sure do.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Yeah, good on you, mate.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Hey, Cam, just quickly, mate. Which tool of yours needs
- 10:52Speaker 1: an upgrade and why?
- 10:54Speaker 4: My drop saw, mate. It's built too many houses, too
- 10:57Speaker 4: many fences. It's just about shipping stuff. It's a lethal
- 11:02Speaker 4: little number now.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I need a new one.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Yeah, a drop saw.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Oh, the old drop saw, yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 1: So it's a saw that drops down.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Yes.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And then cuts.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Cuts into the wood, yeah.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. All right, so you need a drop saw.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Let's have a look at what we've got here. Well,
- 11:17Speaker 1: we don't actually have a drop saw per se, Cam.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I tell you what. We don't have a drop saw, fellas.
- 11:24Speaker 1: We're just going to have to give them an M18
- 11:26Speaker 1: Milwaukee eight-piece power pack worth $ 2, 600 plus GST. That'll do. Yeah,
- 11:29Speaker 1: that'll do.
- 11:33Speaker 3: That's fantastic, fellas.
- 11:34Speaker 1: You happy with that, Cam?
- 11:36Speaker 4: I'm happy. That is unbelievable.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I can't believe it.
- 11:42Speaker 2: $ 2, 600.
- 11:43Speaker 1: $ 2, 600 plus GST. It includes a hammer drill, an impact driver,
- 11:46Speaker 1: an angle grinder, a multi-tool, a circular saw, a reciprocating saw,
- 11:49Speaker 1: a compact blower, wet and dry vacuum, batteries, charger, and
- 11:52Speaker 1: a carry bag. However, Cam, you will have to take
- 11:54Speaker 1: that drop saw of yours and throw it in the bin.
- 11:57Speaker 3: I will.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I will now.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Good on you, mate. I actually need a new one
- 12:00Speaker 3: of all of those.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Oh, here he is.
- 12:03Speaker 3: What a.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Here he is.
- 12:05Speaker 4: That has got to make your afternoon, Cam.
- 12:07Speaker 3: It sure has.
- 12:08Speaker 4: You wouldn't believe it, fellas. Yeah, that's great. Appreciate it.
- 12:11Speaker 1: No worries, Cam. You hold the line, all right, and
- 12:14Speaker 1: I'll pug-saw... Pug-saw. Pug-saw and we'll hand-deliver that to you.
- 12:17Speaker 4: All right?
- 12:18Speaker 3: Sure.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Good stuff, Cam. Nice fella.
- 12:21Speaker 4: That's incredible.
- 12:22Speaker 1: It is incredible. That's a huge kit worth over $ 2, 599,
- 12:26Speaker 1: as we said, fellas. But there's heaps of deals going
- 12:29Speaker 1: on at ITM at the moment. Their toolbox top-up sale
- 12:31Speaker 1: is on right now. for October and November at your
- 12:34Speaker 1: local ITM, so get stuck in.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Yeah, totally, get stuck into it, New Zealand. In the meantime,
- 12:39Speaker 4: here's Guns....
- 12:41Speaker 2: Roses The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 12:47Speaker 4: News there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Tuesday afternoon.
- 12:51Speaker 4: The time is 4.52, let's talk TV. What's on the
- 12:57Speaker 4: telly with Mike Minogue. Yeah. That's right. Fellas, I'm going
- 13:05Speaker 4: to crack into it. And I think we touched on
- 13:07Speaker 4: it in yesterday's show, the series East of Eden, which
- 13:13Speaker 4: is on Netflix. It's a sweeping saga, can I say that?
- 13:18Speaker 4: Starring the amazing, always amazing Florence Pugh and Christopher Abbott.
- 13:25Speaker 4: And it's basically the story of a... deeply, deeply ambitious
- 13:30Speaker 4: woman who drives a wedge between two brothers. And it's
- 13:35Speaker 4: a story of one man loving this woman and the
- 13:39Speaker 4: other man going, she's no good.
- 13:40Speaker 3: She no good.
- 13:41Speaker 4: She no good. Filmed in New Zealand, of course, I believe.
- 13:46Speaker 4: So it's beautifully shot. Absolutely beautifully shot. And it's a
- 13:52Speaker 4: very tragic tale, really, of one brother who this woman,
- 13:56Speaker 4: Kathy Ames, I think her character name is. Well, she's
- 14:00Speaker 4: got a bit of a history as a child. She
- 14:01Speaker 4: leaves home. I won't tell you what she does to
- 14:03Speaker 4: the people at her home. She gets brutalised along the
- 14:07Speaker 4: way and then sort of finds herself at this brother's farm,
- 14:13Speaker 4: sort of homestead, beaten, you know, beaten to smithereens. And
- 14:17Speaker 4: one of the brothers is like, quick, get a doctor.
- 14:19Speaker 4: We've got to help her. The other brother is like, no, no,
- 14:23Speaker 4: there's something not right and not good here. One of
- 14:27Speaker 4: them falls desperately in love with her and the other
- 14:31Speaker 4: doesn't want a bar of her, but kind of desires
- 14:34Speaker 4: her in a way as well. But he's very mistrusting.
- 14:39Speaker 4: And it's basically the story of their love, really, and
- 14:42Speaker 4: how it may or may not disintegrate. And she goes
- 14:47Speaker 4: on because she wants to be independent. She hates men.
- 14:50Speaker 4: You know, men have treated her poorly all her life.
- 14:54Speaker 4: And it's kind of... In some ways, a revenge story.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Highly recommended, fellas. I've got to give it 4.5 buzzies. Wow,
- 15:04Speaker 4: out of five? Yes.
- 15:05Speaker 1: That's huge.
- 15:05Speaker 3: I've got a couple of episodes to go. It's a
- 15:07Speaker 3: bloody ripper. I'm looking forward to the last two. I
- 15:09Speaker 3: think there's seven episodes. But it's been a long, long
- 15:13Speaker 3: time since I've seen something where I've been so immediately
- 15:17Speaker 3: swept up in it.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Captured.
- 15:18Speaker 3: From top to bottom, everything about it is amazing. Acting, directing, writing,
- 15:23Speaker 3: production design, costume. Absolutely everything. Amazing.
- 15:27Speaker 4: It really is amazing, Keezy.
- 15:29Speaker 1: East of Eden on Netflix.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Yes.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Would my wife like it?
- 15:32Speaker 4: Look, there's some pretty intense stuff that goes on, so
- 15:36Speaker 4: she might find that a little, you know, sort of anxiety-inducing.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, we're out.
- 15:40Speaker 4: But it is a beautifully told story. And the performances
- 15:45Speaker 4: are extraordinary. Florence Pugh, who I love as an actor,
- 15:50Speaker 4: her performance is incredible, I think. Yes. That's great. Incredible.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I watched a show, as soon as I hopped on
- 15:57Speaker 1: the airplane to head home, I was hankering for some
- 16:00Speaker 1: Japanese content. So I was like, why don't I watch
- 16:02Speaker 1: a Japanese movie? And there was one on the Air
- 16:05Speaker 1: New Zealand Entertainment offering, fully in Japanese with subtitles. I
- 16:09Speaker 1: was like, okay, stuff it, I'll watch that. Didn't watch
- 16:11Speaker 1: the trailer, didn't know anything about it. It's called Tokyo Taxi.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Turns out it's about a guy who owns and runs
- 16:16Speaker 1: his own taxi. He's on the bones of his ass.
- 16:19Speaker 1: His daughter has gotten into this really great school, but
- 16:21Speaker 1: he literally can't even afford... to pay the rent in
- 16:24Speaker 1: his house. Right. And he's like, how the hell am
- 16:26Speaker 1: I going to, you know, and then he's trying to
- 16:28Speaker 1: go to sleep because he works till 6am every single day.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Picks up this old woman who wants a lift down
- 16:34Speaker 1: to this real far away spot because she's decided it's
- 16:36Speaker 1: time for her to go into a home. And then
- 16:38Speaker 1: along the way, she tells her story of how she
- 16:41Speaker 1: came through and blah, blah, blah. Really, really nice movie.
- 16:44Speaker 1: It made me cry at one point, but I think
- 16:45Speaker 1: it's because I was really tired.
- 16:47Speaker 3: That happens on planes.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and you're just like, I'm really tired, I'm uncomfortable,
- 16:50Speaker 1: and I started crying at one point. My wife's like,
- 16:52Speaker 1: are you crying? Yeah. And I was like, no!
- 16:54Speaker 3: It gave her the ick again.
- 16:55Speaker 4: It did. I remember you crying when we came back
- 16:57Speaker 4: from Magic Round.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that was a whole different thing. That was a
- 17:01Speaker 1: whole different situation. Tokyo Taxi, really enjoyed it. Heartwarming, sad.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I'm going to give it four buzzies out of five.
- 17:08Speaker 3: And it was great. And you can see that on
- 17:10Speaker 3: a plane from Japan to New Zealand.
- 17:13Speaker 1: From Tokyo to New Zealand, direct. But on any New
- 17:16Speaker 1: Zealand flight, Tokyo Taxi, check it out.
- 17:18Speaker 4: Yeah, good stuff. Now, plenty coming up after five o'clock,
- 17:21Speaker 4: by the way, including Mogi had a bit of a,
- 17:25Speaker 4: what are they called?
- 17:26Speaker 1: Onsen.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Onsen experience himself today, which I'm intrigued to learn about.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Which is naked in a sauna slash hot spring.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Yes.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Can't wait.
- 17:38Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 17:41Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Welcome back, you massive backbones. Hope your Tuesday afternoon is
- 17:46Speaker 4: going along very nicely indeed. You're listening to The Big Show,
- 17:50Speaker 4: by the way, brought to you by Reburger.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Crave-worthy street food freshly made with Reburger.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Crave-worthy. Yeah, good stuff.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Great stuff, man.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Good stuff.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Thanks, fellas.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Hey, now listen, we were having a little bit of
- 18:05Speaker 4: a chat yesterday about our travels.
- 18:07Speaker 1: It's true.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Me to Australia, Keezy to Japan. And this further sort
- 18:12Speaker 4: of discussion that's developed from those conversations.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yeah, around onsens.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Onsens, yes.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Which is an onsen is a, in Japan it's a
- 18:22Speaker 1: hot spring and it's like a, Imagine walking into a
- 18:26Speaker 1: public swimming pool facility.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Is it like why we're a hot pools?
- 18:31Speaker 1: Similar.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Is it like Lake Taupo?
- 18:33Speaker 1: Nah, similar. So imagine you're walking into like a public
- 18:36Speaker 1: swimming pool, that kind of vibe, except for instead of
- 18:37Speaker 1: a giant pool, there's like four or five smaller hot
- 18:41Speaker 1: tubs and an area off to the side filled with
- 18:45Speaker 1: small shower heads. And taps and little stools.
- 18:49Speaker 4: Yes.
- 18:49Speaker 1: And you sit there first, you wash your entire body, shampoo,
- 18:52Speaker 1: the whole thing so you're clean, and then you hop
- 18:54Speaker 1: into the hot tubs. And the stools are called eight inches, right? No,
- 18:58Speaker 1: they're not called an eight-incher, Mogi. They're about eight inches
- 19:01Speaker 1: off the ground. They're a little tiny stool. So you're
- 19:04Speaker 1: sitting on an eight-incher there, and then you clean yourself off,
- 19:06Speaker 1: and then you hop in the hot spring. That's how
- 19:08Speaker 1: it works.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Right, okay. Sounds good.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Oh, you'd love it. The whole thing's built around this
- 19:13Speaker 1: sort of agreement that everyone will wash themselves first and
- 19:17Speaker 1: be fully naked before hopping into the hot springs.
- 19:20Speaker 3: That's good stuff.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:21Speaker 4: Yeah. Are there like signs up that say you must
- 19:25Speaker 4: wash first or is that just the presumption.
- 19:29Speaker 1: That you will? Probably, but I can't read Japanese. Right, okay.
- 19:34Speaker 1: So there were probably, but it's also just like the
- 19:36Speaker 1: entire culture knows because they have been doing it for
- 19:38Speaker 1: thousands of years.
- 19:39Speaker 4: So if I was to walk in there, take my
- 19:41Speaker 4: kit off and just do a big bomb in one
- 19:42Speaker 4: of the little pools there, they wouldn't be happy. You know,
- 19:45Speaker 4: what are they called?
- 19:46Speaker 1: A manu. A manu, yeah. Well, it wouldn't be a
- 19:48Speaker 1: big bomb. It'd be more like a little water drip.
- 19:50Speaker 1: into the... But no, they wouldn't be happy with it.
- 19:52Speaker 4: It'd be like a little plop.
- 19:53Speaker 1: It'd be like.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Yes.
- 19:55Speaker 1: But just like that. Yeah, as long as you washed
- 19:58Speaker 1: yourself first, Jase.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Well, that's what he's saying. He wouldn't.
- 20:00Speaker 4: I wouldn't. I'd just get my kid off, be sweaty
- 20:03Speaker 4: from my travels, and then... No, they wouldn't be happy
- 20:07Speaker 4: with that at all. Hey, on that front, we're going
- 20:10Speaker 4: to carry on the chat because you've got something that
- 20:12Speaker 4: you'd like to.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Discuss with us, Mogey. I really do, Jason. Thank you
- 20:16Speaker 3: for bringing it up.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Yes.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Shall we talk about it next? Because I had an
- 20:19Speaker 3: experience today that you're not going to believe.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Yeah, well, that's what I mean. After Velvet, oh no,
- 20:23Speaker 4: after Red Hot Chili Peppers, we'll get.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Back to it.
- 20:26Speaker 1: This is Velvet Revolver, though, by the way. It's an
- 20:27Speaker 1: absolute churn.
- 20:29Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Red Hot Chili Peppers there on the Radio Hauraki Big
- 20:37Speaker 4: Show this Tuesday afternoon. The time is 5.13.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Fellas, I went along today to a sauna. And an
- 20:46Speaker 3: ice bath.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Nice.
- 20:47Speaker 3: It's a joint that I head along to there. It's
- 20:48Speaker 3: nice and relaxing. It's good stuff. And it was nice
- 20:51Speaker 3: to hear you, Keezy, talking about your onsen experience over
- 20:54Speaker 3: in Japan there and how there's a system. You turn up,
- 20:58Speaker 3: you wash yourselves, then you jump into the pools.
- 21:00Speaker 1: That's right. And also, the other thing, too, is in onsen,
- 21:03Speaker 1: before you hop in the hot spring, you fully wash
- 21:05Speaker 1: your entire body with soap. And once you come out
- 21:07Speaker 1: of the sauna, you aren't allowed to then hop into
- 21:09Speaker 1: a pool. You have to then wash yourself off.
- 21:11Speaker 4: Right.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Well, there you go. So this is pretty much what
- 21:15Speaker 3: I've run into today. So go down to the sauna.
- 21:18Speaker 3: There's a hell of a lot of people there. I
- 21:19Speaker 3: thought I'd get away with it today, being in the
- 21:21Speaker 3: middle of the day. But no, it was rammed. I
- 21:24Speaker 3: get out of having the sauna, go over. There's an
- 21:26Speaker 3: outside shower there. No stool, sadly, Keezy. I think this
- 21:29Speaker 3: place could really do with one. I have a shower,
- 21:33Speaker 3: push the button there, give it a couple of pushes,
- 21:34Speaker 3: wash myself all off, and then I jump into the
- 21:37Speaker 3: ice-cold bath.
- 21:37Speaker 1: So it doesn't become sweaty.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Thank you. While I'm there, a lady comes out of
- 21:43Speaker 3: the sauna. She comes over. She jumps straight into the
- 21:46Speaker 3: ice bath.
- 21:47Speaker 1: With you?
- 21:48Speaker 3: No.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Oh.
- 21:50Speaker 3: That would have been a different issue. She jumps into
- 21:52Speaker 3: the other ice bath, but at no point does she
- 21:54Speaker 3: have a shower. And I'm thinking to myself, is she
- 21:58Speaker 3: a shocking bastard?
- 21:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 4: It is.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Is that pure filth?
- 22:03Speaker 1: My vibe is, especially on the sweat thing, is I
- 22:06Speaker 1: wouldn't think about it much because, I don't know, it's
- 22:10Speaker 1: water and you're going into water, if you know what
- 22:13Speaker 1: I mean.
- 22:13Speaker 3: It is an interesting one, but then you see, because
- 22:17Speaker 3: I think to myself, because what I'm trying to avoid
- 22:20Speaker 3: in my head is, Do I have a confrontation with
- 22:23Speaker 3: a stranger in an area that I'm meant to be relaxing?
- 22:27Speaker 3: This whole area has been provided for me to relax.
- 22:30Speaker 3: This whole experience is for that.
- 22:31Speaker 4: To unwind, if you will.
- 22:32Speaker 3: And then I've got somebody coming in who's breaking the rules.
- 22:34Speaker 3: The rules are written up on the wall. Oh, they are.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Straight in the bloody ice bath. Then I start rationalising
- 22:42Speaker 3: to myself, well, does it matter? Does it matter? Because
- 22:45Speaker 3: it's only sweat. Don't you mind bathing in other people's sweat?
- 22:48Speaker 3: That's all good, isn't it? And then I'm thinking, well,
- 22:50Speaker 3: not really. And then I think, well, I'm not putting
- 22:52Speaker 3: my mouth in it. But then at the end, I
- 22:54Speaker 3: do dunk myself under. So there is some of the
- 22:56Speaker 3: sweat going in my mouth.
- 22:58Speaker 4: It's interesting because where I live, we've got a little
- 23:01Speaker 4: pool and a spa. A sauna, sorry. A sauna. And
- 23:06Speaker 4: that's the rule there. If you have a sauna, you're
- 23:08Speaker 4: not allowed to jump into the pool. I mean, I
- 23:10Speaker 4: do anyway. Who's going to stop me?
- 23:13Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're like a legend, though.
- 23:15Speaker 3: True.
- 23:15Speaker 1: You know, whereas this woman, like, is she a top
- 23:17Speaker 1: radio DJ?
- 23:18Speaker 4: Well, particularly when you're talking about, you know, going in
- 23:24Speaker 4: a sauna, all the toxins are coming out, you're sweating
- 23:27Speaker 4: like a bastard. It is pretty gross to then go
- 23:30Speaker 4: from there and just jump into a communal pool.
- 23:33Speaker 1: It's the communal part, you know?
- 23:34Speaker 3: It's the communal part.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Yeah, no, you've got to have a quick rinse, even
- 23:36Speaker 1: just a quick rinse off. Yes. Run the water, get
- 23:39Speaker 1: under it, rub your hands over yourself.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Yes.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's not okay. I wouldn't have a confrontation though, personally.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Well, what am I meant to do about that? Am
- 23:46Speaker 3: I just meant to let it go?
- 23:48Speaker 1: I mean, that's not really an option.
- 23:50Speaker 4: Either, is it?
- 23:50Speaker 3: Okay, then I've got another one for you. Then a
- 23:52Speaker 3: guy comes out.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Yes.
- 23:53Speaker 3: A guy comes out of the sauna. He's wearing his jandals.
- 23:57Speaker 3: He goes and has a shower and rinses himself off.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Then he jumps in to the ice bath wearing his
- 24:05Speaker 3: jandals still.
- 24:06Speaker 1: No that's messed up Because he's been walking around Because
- 24:08Speaker 1: he doesn't want to get his feet dirty But the
- 24:10Speaker 1: jandals are now filthy Yes And he's put them in
- 24:12Speaker 1: your ice bath Did he jump in with you?
- 24:14Speaker 3: So I was in the wrong to do that Oh
- 24:16Speaker 3: is that you? Every single time I go there Is
- 24:18Speaker 3: that wrong? Because that was the thing That was making
- 24:20Speaker 3: me think to myself Well I won't say anything about
- 24:22Speaker 3: the sweat Because I've got my jandals on Because I'm.
- 24:24Speaker 4: In here with my jandals on Yeah I've got my
- 24:26Speaker 4: jandals on.
- 24:26Speaker 3: And do we call it Even Stevens?
- 24:28Speaker 1: I think so Yeah I would Although I would You
- 24:31Speaker 1: are a top radio DJ That's true So I think
- 24:34Speaker 1: have a confrontation with.
- 24:35Speaker 3: It Okay In your jandals. Thanks, mate.
- 24:39Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 24:42Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Metallica there on the Radio Hodaki Big Show this Tuesday afternoon.
- 24:49Speaker 4: The time is 5.27.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Fellas, all this chat about my trip to Japan and
- 24:53Speaker 1: going to the hot springs there where you get fully
- 24:55Speaker 1: nude and you shower off and then you hop in.
- 24:58Speaker 1: It kind of, because I went to five of these
- 25:00Speaker 1: things while I was away for two weeks.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Yeah, you got quite obsessed with them, you were saying.
- 25:03Speaker 3: I wouldn't say obsessed.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Did I say obsessed? Yeah, I got obsessed with it.
- 25:07Speaker 1: It was my favourite part about my holiday, was when
- 25:09Speaker 1: my wife would go to bed and then I'd sneak out,
- 25:11Speaker 1: ride a bike to the hot spring, get nude with
- 25:13Speaker 1: 40 other dudes and just sort of stay there for
- 25:16Speaker 1: about an hour and ride home. But as soon as
- 25:19Speaker 1: I got back to New Zealand, I'm not lying, I googled,
- 25:21Speaker 1: does New Zealand have any onsen? We don't have any.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:26Speaker 1: There's a couple of places that are named an onsen,
- 25:29Speaker 1: but they're not really what I'm after here. And so
- 25:31Speaker 1: I was thinking maybe... Should I start a business, an
- 25:35Speaker 1: onsen business, where I set up proper onsen where you've
- 25:38Speaker 1: got the men's side on one side, you've got the
- 25:40Speaker 1: women's side on the other side, and you walk through,
- 25:43Speaker 1: you get fully showered off, soaped up, you hop in
- 25:45Speaker 1: the hot springs, you've got a cold plunge pool, and
- 25:49Speaker 1: it's all built around this agreement that we're all going
- 25:51Speaker 1: to be nude, and it's all G, and we're all
- 25:54Speaker 1: going to shower off.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Before hopping in.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Do you reckon that would go down well in New Zealand?
- 25:59Speaker 3: Well, I guess it's how you provide that mineral water, Keezy,
- 26:02Speaker 3: because that comes from the earth. How are you going
- 26:03Speaker 3: to do that? Yeah, the hot springs. Yeah, the hot springs.
- 26:05Speaker 3: How are you going to solve that?
- 26:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Because otherwise you'd be a faker like these other ones
- 26:11Speaker 3: that are around.
- 26:12Speaker 1: No, totally. And so there are places that have hot springs.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Like a lot of places have hot springs around New Zealand, actually.
- 26:18Speaker 3: We're quite lucky.
- 26:19Speaker 1: So I'd have to start. I couldn't do it in
- 26:20Speaker 1: like downtown Auckland or something. But it'd have to be
- 26:23Speaker 1: in kind of– or Rotorua, for example.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Yeah, my old hometown.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Where you grew up. You know, there's a lot of
- 26:27Speaker 1: hot spring access there.
- 26:29Speaker 4: Yeah, it stinks, though.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Well, it does.
- 26:31Speaker 3: It does.
- 26:31Speaker 4: It's very sulfur-y.
- 26:33Speaker 3: But very good for the tourists. The tourists are there,
- 26:35Speaker 3: and it's good for you.
- 26:36Speaker 1: They like it.
- 26:37Speaker 4: I was saying just off air before, Keezy, we had
- 26:40Speaker 4: our own hot pool in Rotorua. I think that would
- 26:44Speaker 4: be a perfect place for it.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Oh, 100%, right? But the part where it falls over,
- 26:48Speaker 1: I think, is I don't think New Zealanders– would agree
- 26:54Speaker 1: that you have to shower off first.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Right.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Like in Japan, it's just part of the culture. It's
- 26:58Speaker 1: a known thing that you always shower off first before
- 27:01Speaker 1: getting in. It's a respect to everyone else thing.
- 27:03Speaker 3: I think the wider issue is because you could actually
- 27:06Speaker 3: have it set up so that between the baths and
- 27:11Speaker 3: the changing rooms, you walk through an area and you
- 27:14Speaker 3: get showered on whether you like it or not.
- 27:16Speaker 1: So it's just water always falling from the roof.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Rainfall, you walk through and you get up. The problem
- 27:20Speaker 3: that you're really going to run into is the nudity. Oh, no,
- 27:23Speaker 3: you have to be fully nude. But this is the
- 27:25Speaker 3: issue that New Zealanders will have, is being nude.
- 27:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you could also, you know, you could
- 27:32Speaker 4: monitor it. So you could be in.
- 27:33Speaker 3: With cameras and the like.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Cameras and stuff. And you could be there all the
- 27:36Speaker 4: time just making sure that people are doing what they're
- 27:40Speaker 4: supposed to be doing. Hey, take those off. Yeah, like
- 27:43Speaker 4: an onsen bouncer. If you will.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Yeah, right. But a bouncer stands at the front. I
- 27:50Speaker 1: want to be in there monitoring it.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what I mean. You'd be in there making
- 27:54Speaker 4: sure that everyone's doing the right thing.
- 27:55Speaker 1: So I'm on like a big chair, like a lifeguard.
- 27:57Speaker 4: Yes.
- 27:58Speaker 1: It's up really high and I'm nude, but I've got
- 28:01Speaker 1: a whistle and maybe a lifeguard hat. And I just
- 28:04Speaker 1: blow the whistle and I get down, I run over
- 28:06Speaker 1: and I say, hey, get them off or get out.
- 28:09Speaker 4: Yes.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Yes.
- 28:10Speaker 4: I'd invest in that. Really? Yeah, totally, man.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Because I was going to. Would you invest in that, Moggy?
- 28:16Speaker 3: The other thing that worries me is the name. It's
- 28:19Speaker 3: got to have a snappy name. Now, if we can
- 28:21Speaker 3: get the name right, I'm in. Right, okay.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Well, we can workshop that. In fact, 3483, if anyone's
- 28:27Speaker 1: got any ideas, feel free to text through. 50 bucks
- 28:29Speaker 1: worth of Reburg are always up for grabs. To be honest, Jase,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I wasn't looking for your cash in particular.
- 28:35Speaker 4: That's a first.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I was after one specific thing from you.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Yes.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Because one thing I noticed when I was at the onsen...
- 28:43Speaker 1: is the amount of old men around with just a
- 28:45Speaker 1: huge bush.
- 28:46Speaker 4: Sure, sure.
- 28:47Speaker 1: So in order to recreate that feeling, I could pay
- 28:51Speaker 1: you to spend like eight hours a day there.
- 28:54Speaker 4: Right, okay.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Would you be up for that?
- 28:55Speaker 4: Just get my big bush out.
- 28:57Speaker 1: And you just have to sort of sit in the
- 28:58Speaker 1: onsen with a rag on your head, nude in the corner,
- 29:00Speaker 1: and just sort of groan all the time.
- 29:02Speaker 4: When you hop in the water, go, count me in, Keezy,
- 29:06Speaker 4: I'm in.
- 29:08Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 29:11Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki. Giga Little on

- 29:56Speaker 1: professor of being a backbone Unfortunately, not a professor, no.
- 30:01Speaker 1: A little bit, yeah.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Are you like a janitor with the abilities of Matt Damon?
- 30:09Speaker 1: No, not that either. Yeah, well, that's the only two
- 30:12Speaker 1: jobs at a university.
- 30:13Speaker 3: So you go around saying, how do you like them apples?
- 30:17Speaker 1: No, but I might start on Monday.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Go on.
- 30:19Speaker 4: I saw that movie the other day. Good Will Hunting. Yeah,
- 30:22Speaker 4: Good Will Hunting.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:23Speaker 4: It's a bloody great movie. Now, tell me, Marissa, if
- 30:27Speaker 4: we were to give you $ 250 cash, what gig would
- 30:33Speaker 4: you like to go and see?
- 30:34Speaker 3: I'd love to go to Radiohead in Melbourne next year
- 30:37Speaker 3: in May. Great call. Great call.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Great combination.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Melbourne?
- 30:41Speaker 4: Melbourne.
- 30:43Speaker 1: And Radiohead.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Yeah. Nice, Marisa.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Beautiful.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Well, the good news for you, we're going to help
- 30:48Speaker 4: you do that by giving you $ 250. That's awesome. No worries, mate.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 30:55Speaker 1: No worries, Marisa.
- 30:56Speaker 4: You're welcome.
- 30:58Speaker 1: That is so cool. Thanks so much. No worries. You
- 31:00Speaker 1: have a great afternoon, all right? You hold the line.
- 31:02Speaker 4: I will. Cheers.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 31:04Speaker 1: No worries.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Good on you, mate. Ring those tickets. We'll be at $ 8, 000.
- 31:07Speaker 3: But it's a start. It's a start. Yeah, totally. You
- 31:10Speaker 3: get Christmas money, you put it towards the tickets, all
- 31:12Speaker 3: that sort of stuff, you know? Yes.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I remember saving up for stuff like that, like by being, oh,
- 31:18Speaker 1: I get $ 20 from Pop at Christmas, mate, I put
- 31:21Speaker 1: that towards it, and then my auntie gives me $ 15,
- 31:23Speaker 1: put that towards it.
- 31:25Speaker 4: Did you guys have relatives back in the day when
- 31:28Speaker 4: you were youngsters that always send you, like, $ 20? Yeah.
- 31:33Speaker 4: Or $ 10 in a Christmas card or a birthday card.
- 31:37Speaker 3: Keezy was just talking about this guy, Pop.
- 31:39Speaker 1: He used to give him $ 20.
- 31:40Speaker 3: I don't know if you heard about that.
- 31:41Speaker 4: My Pop used to give me like $ 5.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Oh, really?
- 31:46Speaker 4: My Nana Tuppence used to give me a tuppence for
- 31:48Speaker 4: my birthday. Yeah, right.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Actually, Jase, have you ever heard of when relations give
- 31:53Speaker 1: you money for your birthday?
- 31:55Speaker 4: No.
- 31:55Speaker 2: No?
- 31:57Speaker 1: Keep listening to Hauraki, another chance to win $ 250 thanks
- 32:00Speaker 1: to Super Liquor. It could go off at any moment, fellas.
- 32:03Speaker 4: In the meantime, here's the strokes.
- 32:05Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 32:08Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 32:11Speaker 4: The inspirational sounds of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers there
- 32:14Speaker 4: on the Hauraki Big Show this Tuesday evening, the time 5.48.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Fellas, as you know, I've been having ongoing issues with
- 32:22Speaker 3: a tui that lives outside of my bedroom. Yes. Tui, tui, moi, moi.
- 32:27Speaker 3: We've taken to calling it. Now, it first turned up
- 32:29Speaker 3: in September of last year, and they're very vocal about
- 32:33Speaker 3: their territory and also trying to get some ass. Yes.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Because it's mating season, Keezy. You know all about that, brother.
- 32:39Speaker 4: Sure do.
- 32:40Speaker 3: And anyway, so the way that they attract a mate,
- 32:44Speaker 3: we call them, Keezy, is by singing and having a
- 32:49Speaker 3: really good time and making it seem like they're just backbones.
- 32:52Speaker 3: They're pretty chill and relaxed. They're happy-go-lucky sort of fellas,
- 32:55Speaker 3: et cetera, et cetera. They start there at around about
- 32:57Speaker 3: quarter to four every single morning. The bright side is
- 33:01Speaker 3: it only lasts for about seven months, which is good stuff.
- 33:05Speaker 3: I'm a light sleeper, so every day I get woken
- 33:07Speaker 3: up by it. I was hoping that this guy would
- 33:10Speaker 3: have pissed off somewhere else, you know, over the sort
- 33:12Speaker 3: of the winter, autumn break or, you know, hit by
- 33:15Speaker 3: a car. You never know.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Or at least shacked up with someone by now.
- 33:18Speaker 4: Yeah, found a bird.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Found a bird. Thank you, James. Well, he's back. With
- 33:23Speaker 3: a vengeance, and he's moved, because he used to live
- 33:24Speaker 3: in a big, tall tree, palm tree out the back,
- 33:27Speaker 3: and now he's moved to a tree right outside my
- 33:29Speaker 3: bedroom window.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Which is awesome.
- 33:30Speaker 3: How big is that tree? How big is what?
- 33:31Speaker 1: The one outside your window.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Is it a big tree? Not big enough, because if
- 33:33Speaker 3: it was really tall, like if you could imagine the
- 33:35Speaker 3: Empire State Building, but a tree.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 33:39Speaker 3: That would be good, but it's not as tall as that.
- 33:41Speaker 3: It's about the height of a tree. Oh, okay.
- 33:43Speaker 4: About the height of your window.
- 33:45Speaker 3: About the height of it. Yeah, yeah, around about that.
- 33:47Speaker 1: But the reason I'm asking is because you cut down
- 33:48Speaker 1: that tree because it's not so noticeable.
- 33:50Speaker 3: It's not my house.
- 33:50Speaker 1: But it's not noticeable.
- 33:51Speaker 3: Ah, okay.
- 33:52Speaker 1: You know, because it's just a little sort of semi-grown tree.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Oh, no, it's bigger than that. It's about as high
- 33:56Speaker 3: as the house. Okay. It's a significant tree. Anyway, so
- 34:00Speaker 3: it wakes me up every day and I've found it
- 34:02Speaker 3: really annoying. Anyway, I've found a workaround.
- 34:04Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, nice.
- 34:05Speaker 3: I've solved it. What I've done is it wakes me
- 34:07Speaker 3: up and what I've got, I've just got sitting next
- 34:09Speaker 3: to it on my bedside table there, a couple of earplugs.
- 34:13Speaker 3: And so I've just started using those. So you just
- 34:16Speaker 3: wake up, you put these earplugs in.
- 34:18Speaker 1: You wait till you've been woken up.
- 34:19Speaker 3: And then you just go straight to sleep. It's been amazing.
- 34:23Speaker 3: And I just sort of wondered, Keezy, why you haven't
- 34:24Speaker 3: mentioned that before.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Well, no, that's not, I mean, I have several times,
- 34:28Speaker 1: especially off-air, said, why don't you just wear earplugs? But
- 34:32Speaker 1: I never thought about waiting until you've woken up and
- 34:34Speaker 1: then putting them in.
- 34:37Speaker 4: God. Especially when you think, Of the lengths that we
- 34:41Speaker 4: went to.
- 34:42Speaker 3: I know.
- 34:42Speaker 4: We installed a bar.
- 34:43Speaker 1: We pimped out his bed bath.
- 34:45Speaker 4: His bird bath. Bird bath.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Bought him a necklace.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Bought him a necklace, exactly.
- 34:49Speaker 1: A little waistcoat.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Sparkly things, that's right. And Kezia, you're so good at
- 34:53Speaker 3: having solutions for our problems, mostly Jason's. I have less problems.
- 34:57Speaker 4: Yes.
- 34:57Speaker 3: And then here I am with a fairly straightforward problem
- 34:59Speaker 3: and you were nowhere to be found.
- 35:00Speaker 1: But I was in Japan.
- 35:02Speaker 4: God, you're all over the shop with this one, Kenzie.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Well, hang on. No, I suggested a very long time
- 35:06Speaker 1: ago that Mogi should wear earplugs.
- 35:08Speaker 3: But it didn't occur to you to do it after
- 35:11Speaker 3: I'd woken up.
- 35:11Speaker 1: After you'd woken up. Yeah, exactly, which is where I
- 35:13Speaker 1: went wrong. I should have thought of that.
- 35:15Speaker 4: Yes.
- 35:16Speaker 1: I should have said, hey, you know, once you're awake,
- 35:18Speaker 1: that's when you should fumble around, find some earplugs and
- 35:20Speaker 1: put them in. That's my bad.
- 35:24Speaker 3: I forgive you, Keezy.
- 35:25Speaker 4: Think of the days and hours of sleep you've missed.
- 35:29Speaker 3: That's right, because of Keezy.
- 35:30Speaker 4: Because of Keezy.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Being a shocking bastard.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Well, I don't know if I'm a beast.
- 35:38Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 35:41Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 35:43Speaker 4: Welcome back, you massive backbones. Hope your Tuesday evening's going off.
- 35:47Speaker 4: You're listening to The Big Show, incidentally, brought to you.
- 35:51Speaker 4: By Reburger.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Handcrafted burgers, loaded fries and gourmet eats that'll change the game.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Scrumdiddlyumptious.
- 35:59Speaker 4: Fellas, what I'm about to tell you is a true story.
- 36:03Speaker 3: Okay.
- 36:04Speaker 4: It's shocking. It's shocking. And it's about the dinner I
- 36:07Speaker 4: had last night. Now, my wife said, I've been to
- 36:11Speaker 4: the supermarket, I've got us dinner. And I was like, jeez,
- 36:15Speaker 4: I'm really grateful for that, my love. I appreciate it.
- 36:19Speaker 3: That's patronising.
- 36:21Speaker 4: So I got home. This is a true story. Now,
- 36:25Speaker 4: I've got to put the context in here. My youngest
- 36:28Speaker 4: daughter is currently cat-sitting with her boyfriend at another place.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Copy that.
- 36:34Speaker 1: So it's just you two?
- 36:35Speaker 4: So it's just my wife and I at home. And
- 36:37Speaker 4: I said to my wife, hello, darling. God, you look
- 36:40Speaker 4: good today, et cetera, et cetera. Gave her a little
- 36:44Speaker 4: peck on the cheek. And anyway, I said, oh, so
- 36:47Speaker 4: what did you end up getting bub to eat? and
- 36:50Speaker 4: she listed, and I kid you not, three meals. It
- 36:53Speaker 4: was like enchiladas.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Oh, for them to eat while they're away.
- 36:57Speaker 4: For them to eat while they're house-sitting. Nice, that's lovely.
- 36:59Speaker 4: It was like enchiladas, it was an Indian chicken curry,
- 37:04Speaker 4: and something else. She also got them crackers, chips, fruit.
- 37:08Speaker 4: And I went, oh, that's pretty good.
- 37:12Speaker 1: That's amazing.
- 37:13Speaker 4: What are we having for dinner? And she said, I
- 37:17Speaker 4: went a bit random for us. And I went, OK.
- 37:20Speaker 4: And what she had bought was a single person fish
- 37:25Speaker 4: pie and a little pottle of salad.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Oh, that was for you guys.
- 37:33Speaker 4: And that was for us. And she was like, oh,
- 37:35Speaker 4: I was a bit worried, actually, because I don't know
- 37:37Speaker 4: if this is going to be enough. And so I
- 37:39Speaker 4: was like, so hang on. You bought three massive meals
- 37:44Speaker 4: and snacks for our daughter and her boyfriend, who are
- 37:47Speaker 4: only there for two days, I might point out, and
- 37:50Speaker 4: you bought us a one-single-person fish pie and a little
- 37:55Speaker 4: pottle of salad.
- 37:56Speaker 3: How does that make you feel? I felt hurt, Mogi.
- 38:00Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right.
- 38:01Speaker 3: But you get used to it after all.
- 38:03Speaker 4: And look, I'll be honest with you. I'm a big
- 38:06Speaker 4: fan of the fish pie.
- 38:07Speaker 3: I love a fish pie. Imagine having enough to eat.
- 38:10Speaker 4: But this fish pie was an absolute atrocity. Have you
- 38:15Speaker 4: ever heard of a fish pie with capers in it?
- 38:18Speaker 3: Capers?
- 38:19Speaker 4: No. Who puts capers in a fish pie?
- 38:22Speaker 3: That ain't it.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Did you eat all of it because it was for
- 38:26Speaker 1: one person?
- 38:27Speaker 4: Well, we halved it, obviously. We had a little section each.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Did you eat your second half of your half today
- 38:32Speaker 3: for lunch, did you?
- 38:34Speaker 1: So you had a quarter last night and a quarter today.
- 38:36Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I had to have something for lunch because
- 38:38Speaker 4: there was nothing else in the pantry. Hey, by the way,
- 38:41Speaker 4: text us 3483. What's for dinner with me? Keezy next.
- 38:44Speaker 1: You can win yourself 50 bucks re-burger. This is a tune,
- 38:47Speaker 1: by the way, Incubus.
- 38:48Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 38:52Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 38:54Speaker 4: Radiohead there on the Radio Hodaki Big Show this Tuesday evening.
- 38:59Speaker 4: But right now it's time for... Oh, yeah, hey, guys.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Text here from Steve. What's for tea, New Zealand? With me, Keezy.
- 39:09Speaker 1: That's right, it's a really good segment. Well, you text
- 39:13Speaker 1: through on 3483 with what you're having for dinner and
- 39:15Speaker 1: then we read it out.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Yeah, it's great stuff.
- 39:17Speaker 3: People love it.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Every text on 3483 in the drawer for 50 bucks
- 39:20Speaker 1: worth of re-burger. This one here, fellas. G'day there, guys.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Mike here.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Lane.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Oh, that's good, man. Carpenter.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Mike Lane.
- 39:32Speaker 4: Myers.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Mike Myers. Yeah, it's Mike Myers.
- 39:36Speaker 3: G'day, guys.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Mike Myers. Oh, no, it's auto-corrected. It was actually Mike Minogue. Oh.
- 39:41Speaker 3: What am I having for dinner? I'd like to know.
- 39:43Speaker 1: It says, G'day, guys. Mike here. Minogue. Leftover Chinese. From
- 39:50Speaker 1: last night.
- 39:52Speaker 3: I didn't have Chinese last night.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Didn't you?
- 39:55Speaker 3: No, I had Thai.
- 39:56Speaker 1: It might be a different Mike Minogue.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Maybe it was a different meal. Maybe I didn't get
- 40:01Speaker 3: to see it. Yeah, maybe.
- 40:04Speaker 4: I'm not opposed to a bit of Chinese leftover.
- 40:07Speaker 3: You know what? I never order Chinese food. Ever, ever, ever, ever.
- 40:11Speaker 4: It's one of those.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Never, ever, ever.
- 40:13Speaker 4: One of the things that's sort of gone out of
- 40:15Speaker 4: fashion a bit.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Well, no, you're thinking of the classic Chinese... like sweet
- 40:20Speaker 1: and sour.
- 40:20Speaker 4: Pork your chicken chow mein but.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Our favorite like noodle and dumpling place there's sichuan food
- 40:25Speaker 1: that is in china so that's chinese.
- 40:27Speaker 3: That's true yeah but more you know more the traditional
- 40:30Speaker 3: everything that we used to have growing up your stir
- 40:32Speaker 3: fries and all of that sort of stuff there's a
- 40:34Speaker 3: thousand things they had on the menu but i always
- 40:36Speaker 3: found them when i was young too many vegetables and
- 40:39Speaker 3: then when i was older if i'm getting takeaways i
- 40:42Speaker 3: want it to be worse for me because the trouble
- 40:45Speaker 3: with I found with Chinese food is you eat it
- 40:47Speaker 3: and you've still got heaps of energy afterwards and you
- 40:49Speaker 3: feel great yes I'm not after that yeah yeah totally
- 40:52Speaker 3: I miss.
- 40:52Speaker 1: The days of going to the fish and chip shop
- 40:54Speaker 1: that also had the warmer with your sweet and sour
- 40:57Speaker 1: pork on the grab your own oh the bay marie
- 40:59Speaker 1: yeah and the black bean beef and the fried rock
- 41:02Speaker 1: I loved that as a kid because there'd sometimes be
- 41:04Speaker 1: nuggies in there put a few nuggies in and just
- 41:07Speaker 1: try and close the lid.
- 41:08Speaker 4: On oh yeah oh you mean you serve yourself yeah
- 41:11Speaker 4: yeah yeah I like that People were disgraceful in those
- 41:15Speaker 4: situations where they just pile it up. That's right.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Fish bites.
- 41:19Speaker 4: Come on, dude.
- 41:20Speaker 3: If you can close the lid and it stays closed,
- 41:23Speaker 3: you're good.
- 41:23Speaker 4: Yes.
- 41:24Speaker 1: It is bowing and flexing like you wouldn't believe. G'day there, guys.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Shane here.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Cortez.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:34Speaker 1: G'day, guys. Shane Cortese Carter here. Cheese and onion toasted
- 41:38Speaker 1: sandwiches because I'm broke after putting fuel in my car.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Cheers. Love it.
- 41:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I've got no issue with that whatsoever.
- 41:44Speaker 3: Living like a king. Cheese and onion.
- 41:47Speaker 4: Yeah. Rich guy. Yeah, no, I love a cheese and
- 41:49Speaker 4: onion toasty.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Butter on the outside?
- 41:51Speaker 4: Well, obviously.
- 41:54Speaker 1: So I was just trying to strike up a convo
- 41:55Speaker 1: about whether or not you butter on the outside.
- 41:57Speaker 4: I would be tempted, but he may not be in
- 41:59Speaker 4: this situation, have a little chilli sauce on the plate there, Keezy.
- 42:03Speaker 1: He's just texted her, he said, Jase, it's a shit idea.
- 42:08Speaker 3: And that's... You can't win them all, Jase.
- 42:10Speaker 1: No, that's fine, man. I would just make that up.
- 42:13Speaker 3: That's fine.
- 42:14Speaker 1: I would just make that up.
- 42:15Speaker 3: No, no, not at all. Jase doesn't want to do
- 42:19Speaker 3: any more.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Do you not?
- 42:22Speaker 4: No, just do it, Keezy.
- 42:23Speaker 1: You don't even know, Shane.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Just do it.
- 42:26Speaker 1: G'day, guys. Ridge here.
- 42:29Speaker 4: Matthew.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Yeah. A couple of Wagyu beef burgers.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Oh, yum.
- 42:35Speaker 4: A couple of them?
- 42:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, two of them.
- 42:37Speaker 4: God, he's Keezy-ing it, isn't he?
- 42:40Speaker 1: I feel like you're taking Shane's comment out on me.
- 42:44Speaker 1: It wasn't me. It was a text from Shane. It
- 42:46Speaker 1: wasn't me.
- 42:46Speaker 3: A couple of massive Wagyu patties on the house today.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Actually, yeah, that does sound like a bit of a
- 42:57Speaker 2: Keezy special.
- 42:58Speaker 4: I remember fellas banging that tune out over and over
- 43:03Speaker 4: and over again. Do you do that with songs where
- 43:05Speaker 4: you just become obsessed by them? And then you play
- 43:09Speaker 4: them over and over again until you're sick of them?
- 43:11Speaker 3: I used to do it with, the first one I
- 43:13Speaker 3: remember it happening with was One by Metallica.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Oh, yes.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Wow. Over and over and over and over.
- 43:19Speaker 4: And then you hear it again and go, oh, I'm
- 43:21Speaker 4: kind of over it now.
- 43:22Speaker 3: You can never get over One by Metallica, man.
- 43:24Speaker 4: Yeah, no, that's true, man. That's true. And I love
- 43:26Speaker 4: that song by Kings of Leon, even though I couldn't
- 43:28Speaker 4: tell you what it's called.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Use Somebody.
- 43:30Speaker 4: Oh, Use Somebody, of course, yes.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Do you want to know the song that recently I
- 43:33Speaker 1: did that with?
- 43:34Speaker 4: What's that?
- 43:34Speaker 1: And you'll love it. It's the What's the Name One
- 43:37Speaker 1: by Nick Cave.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Into My Arms.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Yeah, great song.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Because I've heard that song a lot on the radio,
- 43:43Speaker 1: but I've never had it like as a regular play
- 43:45Speaker 1: song on my phone.
- 43:47Speaker 4: Right.
- 43:47Speaker 1: And when I was on, remember when I went to
- 43:50Speaker 1: Waiheke Island for my birthday recently?
- 43:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:54Speaker 1: I played that out loud and Lucy, my wife, was like, oh,
- 43:56Speaker 1: that's a nice song. Yes. So we played it again.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Then I was just like, oh, it is quite a
- 43:59Speaker 1: nice song.
- 43:59Speaker 4: It is. I used to listen to that song over
- 44:02Speaker 4: and over again and just weep, Mogey.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:04Speaker 4: Just weep.
- 44:05Speaker 3: You had a miserable life.
- 44:06Speaker 4: I did have a miserable life at that time. Hey,
- 44:08Speaker 4: but speaking of all this great musical chat, have you
- 44:12Speaker 4: heard of the music jury?
- 44:14Speaker 1: Yeah, the music jury. That's what Hodaki runs. It's a
- 44:16Speaker 1: way for you to tell us what you like about
- 44:18Speaker 1: a playlist and what you do not like. And for
- 44:21Speaker 1: helping us out and giving your opinion, you can win
- 44:23Speaker 1: sweet prizes. This week, fellas, if you text MUSIC to
- 44:27Speaker 1: 3483 and join the jury, fill out the form, tell
- 44:29Speaker 1: us which songs you like and which songs you don't like.
- 44:32Speaker 1: You can win a brand new Technic record player and
- 44:34Speaker 1: $ 100 worth of vinyl vouchers.
- 44:36Speaker 3: You know, while you guys were away, Pugsan and I
- 44:38Speaker 3: were doing a really great bit there.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Yes.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Not a bit, a segment. Songs from bands that I like.
- 44:44Speaker 4: Sure.
- 44:45Speaker 3: And that was songs from bands that play on Hauraki,
- 44:49Speaker 3: but deeper cuts.
- 44:50Speaker 4: Yeah, 100%.
- 44:50Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 44:51Speaker 1: Which I kind of wish we had more of.
- 44:52Speaker 3: And also bands that we think should be on Hauraki.
- 44:55Speaker 4: Yeah, fair enough.
- 44:56Speaker 3: And then we'd have a scene where we'd take turns
- 44:58Speaker 3: at it. We would like to do two songs, but,
- 44:59Speaker 3: you know, the powers that be and all that sort
- 45:01Speaker 3: of thing, you know what they're like.
- 45:02Speaker 4: They don't like you toot-toeing with the music.
- 45:04Speaker 3: They don't like you messing with it. So then we'd
- 45:05Speaker 3: play these songs that were really important to us and
- 45:07Speaker 3: then we'd read all the text bagging us. that came
- 45:10Speaker 3: in on 348. Really?
- 45:11Speaker 4: God, it was good shit. You see, that's the only
- 45:13Speaker 4: reason I wouldn't want to do that segment with you.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:16Speaker 4: Because of the amount of abuse I get for, you know,
- 45:19Speaker 4: my song choices. Yeah. And actually, they're not the sort
- 45:22Speaker 4: of songs that you would play on Hodaki as a
- 45:24Speaker 4: general rule.
- 45:25Speaker 1: At least, though, that segment takes away the need for
- 45:28Speaker 1: it to be a throbber.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Because it's just like, it's not a throbber.
- 45:31Speaker 3: That's right.
- 45:31Speaker 1: It's just a good song.
- 45:32Speaker 4: I've felt the pressure of a throbber many times.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Not to mention on the radio.
- 45:37Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 45:39Speaker 1: Oh.
- 45:40Speaker 4: But no, just having it for it, having to, you know,
- 45:42Speaker 4: really throb as opposed to be melodic. Yeah, totally.
- 45:46Speaker 1: And soothing.
- 45:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Soothing. Music. Text the word music to 3483. Join the
- 45:52Speaker 1: music jury. Have your say on the playlist here at
- 45:54Speaker 1: Radio Hodak and you can win a brand new record player,
- 45:56Speaker 1: 100 bucks with the vinyl vouchers. Get stuck in because
- 45:58Speaker 1: we're giving that away at the end of the week.
- 46:00Speaker 4: How good.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Today by the Smashing Pumpkins.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Yeah, why not? Yeah.
- 46:05Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 46:08Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 46:11Speaker 4: ACDC there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Tuesday evening. Now, fellas,
- 46:17Speaker 4: exciting news for old Hoity J. You'll be aware of
- 46:20Speaker 4: the fact that I'm a big fan of the old
- 46:23Speaker 4: Samsung TVs.
- 46:24Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Now, for the people that don't know, that is an
- 46:26Speaker 1: inbuilt service. Yes. When you buy a Samsung TV specifically,
- 46:30Speaker 1: they have their own range of channels. Yes. And it's
- 46:32Speaker 1: quite interesting channels with very old content on them.
- 46:35Speaker 4: Yeah, very much so. They've got all sorts, but they've
- 46:39Speaker 4: got channels dedicated to one particular program. So they'll just
- 46:43Speaker 4: play out different. Gold trackers or something like that, and
- 46:49Speaker 4: they'll have 50 episodes of gold trackers.
- 46:52Speaker 1: And I've got one on my TV. Whenever I turn
- 46:53Speaker 1: it on now, it's on the Travel Channel.
- 46:55Speaker 4: Yes.
- 46:55Speaker 1: And all of the documentaries are very low budget and
- 46:58Speaker 1: about 15 years old.
- 46:59Speaker 3: Oh, yes.
- 47:00Speaker 4: Yes, pretty much. They're not great quality. But I was
- 47:03Speaker 4: very excited when I was over in Melbourne. We were
- 47:07Speaker 4: watching Samsung TV in one of the places we were
- 47:10Speaker 4: staying in, and they had a new movie channel called Sipsum.
- 47:15Speaker 4: And I was like, oh. we don't get this at home,
- 47:18Speaker 4: that must be an Australian thing. And then I got
- 47:21Speaker 4: home and realised that actually they must have just added
- 47:25Speaker 4: it because it's on our TV as well. Sip some. Now,
- 47:30Speaker 4: here's the issue that I have with it. I was
- 47:33Speaker 4: watching a movie today. You'll remember, Mogi, I'm sure, Liz Hurley.
- 47:40Speaker 3: Oh, yes.
- 47:41Speaker 4: Who was very famous back in her day.
- 47:44Speaker 3: She was.
- 47:44Speaker 4: She was quite a provocateur, if you will.
- 47:48Speaker 1: She was in Austin Powers 1, wasn't she?
- 47:50Speaker 4: That's right. Yes, she was, actually.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Yeah, she was bloody hot.
- 47:53Speaker 4: Very provocative. But what I've noticed, and I've been watching
- 47:57Speaker 4: other movies on this channel, and for a while I thought, oh, this.
- 48:00Speaker 3: Is all dubbed.
- 48:01Speaker 4: This is all dubbed stuff. It wasn't that it was dubbed.
- 48:05Speaker 4: It's just that they bleep out the swearing.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Right.
- 48:08Speaker 4: It's not a bleep. It's just silence. It's just silence.
- 48:10Speaker 4: And it's like, oh, that was weird. Oh, they're swearing. Now,
- 48:14Speaker 4: the other thing I discovered today when I was watching
- 48:16Speaker 4: this particular movie was that they also blur out the nudity. What?
- 48:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:23Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 48:24Speaker 4: I was effing and jeffing because I was really enjoying
- 48:27Speaker 4: this movie.
- 48:28Speaker 3: What's the point of playing it? Exactly.
- 48:29Speaker 4: I mean, you're going to beep out the swearing words.
- 48:32Speaker 4: You're going to blur out the nudity. What the hell's
- 48:34Speaker 4: the point of this?
- 48:35Speaker 1: Because you were watching it, what, with your wife?
- 48:37Speaker 4: Oh, no, she was out. Oh, okay. And I'd actually
- 48:41Speaker 4: watched it the day before. I hadn't even noticed, strangely enough.
- 48:44Speaker 3: Well, hang on.
- 48:44Speaker 1: What kind of? Because there's two forms of blurring nudity.
- 48:47Speaker 1: What about, like, let's say for the females, for example-
- 48:50Speaker 1: Top half blurred out or just bottom half?
- 48:52Speaker 3: Everything blurred out.
- 48:53Speaker 2: What?
- 48:54Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 48:56Speaker 3: What about the men?
- 49:00Speaker 4: No, the men weren't blurred out.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Wait, so hang on. So you were watching a movie
- 49:03Speaker 1: that had all the dudes with their downstairs all G? Well, yes.
- 49:07Speaker 1: And all the women were blurred out?
- 49:08Speaker 4: Yeah, totally.
- 49:09Speaker 1: What's the name of this channel?
- 49:11Speaker 4: Sipsome.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Holy shit.
- 49:12Speaker 3: I think I might.
- 49:14Speaker 2: The Hauraki Beat Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 49:18Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 49:38Speaker 4: Well, that's the end of the big show this Tuesday.
- 49:40Speaker 4: I only do that to rock Keezy up.
- 49:42Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Well, the reason it rocks me up is because it's
- 49:45Speaker 1: literally the end of the show. I'm about to go
- 49:47Speaker 1: home and you decide to take ages going do, do, do.
- 49:50Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:50Speaker 1: It's like, let's wrap it up.
- 49:52Speaker 4: Yeah, okay. Hey, now listen. Now, what's the clip that
- 49:56Speaker 4: you've got today, Keezy, from the Disclaimer podcast?
- 49:59Speaker 1: It's a bonus podcast we do every single day. Today's
- 50:02Speaker 1: clip is entitled Tui Solution, and it comes out tonight.
- 50:06Speaker 1: At 7.30pm.
- 50:08Speaker 4: You woke up this morning. Oh, was it with the Tui?
- 50:12Speaker 3: Yeah, but I managed to get back to sleep. A
- 50:14Speaker 3: little trick I've learned, Keezy, we'll talk about it on
- 50:16Speaker 3: the show.
- 50:16Speaker 4: Did you bleep?
- 50:18Speaker 3: That's a good idea, but no. I went outside and bleeped.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Jase's solution was filth.
- 50:26Speaker 1: I love how Pugs has beeped that so you can
- 50:27Speaker 1: hear the B and the F at the end. But
- 50:32Speaker 1: it comes out at 7.30pm if you want to hear
- 50:33Speaker 1: what Jase said.
- 50:34Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, my bad.
- 50:36Speaker 3: What are you up to tonight there, Jase?
- 50:39Speaker 4: Well, look, let's keep things in order here, fellas. I
- 50:41Speaker 4: don't want total anarchy on the show. What about you, Mogi?
- 50:45Speaker 3: I'm going to go home, probably a little bit of work. Yes.
- 50:48Speaker 3: And a little bit of sleep, I reckon. That'll be
- 50:50Speaker 3: my lot. Nothing exciting. Don't know what I'm having for dinner.
- 50:53Speaker 3: There's a Tom Yum that went around last night. I
- 50:54Speaker 3: had some for lunch today. I sort of find that
- 50:57Speaker 3: I'm responsible. I'm like the pig in the house. I'm
- 50:59Speaker 3: responsible for going around and eating up all of the leftovers. Yes.
- 51:03Speaker 3: And everyone else gets to eat fresh, new meals. Yeah,
- 51:06Speaker 3: good stuff.
- 51:07Speaker 1: We'll tip it down the mogi.
- 51:09Speaker 4: What about you, Keezy? What are you having for... Oh,
- 51:11Speaker 4: do we... I can't remember if we talked about it
- 51:13Speaker 4: at six.
- 51:15Speaker 1: No, we didn't.
- 51:15Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 51:17Speaker 1: What am I having for dinner tonight?
- 51:18Speaker 4: My.
- 51:18Speaker 1: Oh, pork salad.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Oh, God. Oh. Honestly, it doesn't sound good.
- 51:23Speaker 1: While she was in Japan, she had a craving for
- 51:25Speaker 1: the specific salad she makes with pork. And she's like, man,
- 51:29Speaker 1: I can't wait to get home and have pork salad.
- 51:32Speaker 1: So that's what I'm going home to. And then I'm
- 51:33Speaker 1: going to finish watching the first episode of the latest
- 51:35Speaker 1: season of Celebrity Traders UK, which is on three. Last season,
- 51:40Speaker 1: one of the best reality shows I've ever watched. This season,
- 51:42Speaker 1: I've watched half. I'll tell you more about it on
- 51:44Speaker 1: tomorrow's show. Hasn't grabbed me yet.
- 51:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you went on a bit there, Kesey. We're trying
- 51:48Speaker 4: to get home now, man.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Oh, sorry, Jase. What are you up to tonight, man?
- 51:51Speaker 4: Well, funny you should ask that, actually, because as I
- 51:54Speaker 4: described at the top of the hour there, absolute debacle
- 51:58Speaker 4: of our dinner last night. So I said to myself today,
- 52:02Speaker 4: I said, you know what? I'm taking responsibility tonight.
- 52:06Speaker 1: And what did he say?
- 52:07Speaker 4: So I went to the supermarket and I sorted it out.
- 52:11Speaker 1: So what, you're saying that you're, hmm, okay.
- 52:15Speaker 4: What?
- 52:15Speaker 1: Nah, you're all good.
- 52:16Speaker 3: Yeah, leave it there.
- 52:17Speaker 1: Don't worry about it. Hey, that's good stuff, James. Anyway,
- 52:19Speaker 1: we'll see you tomorrow at four.
- 52:20Speaker 3: Well, hang on.
- 52:20Speaker 4: Bye. No, that's it.
- 52:21Speaker 1: We'll see you tomorrow at four.
- 52:22Speaker 3: Goodbye.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Check out the Instagram and the podcast. Love you.
