- 0:00Speaker 1: I have here an email of interest, Well, is it
- 0:03Speaker 1: truly of interest? Kind of yeah, email kind of of interest.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I'm kind of gonna pay attention there, sort of.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I went to see uh, went to the movies on Saturday,
- 0:18Speaker 1: went to the uh the Broadway Salt Like Film Society
- 0:21Speaker 1: they have. They were playing the movie Weapons and which,
- 0:26Speaker 1: by the way, is very good.
- 0:28Speaker 3: It's a horror movie, but it's also a.
- 0:32Speaker 2: It's got Julia Garner and Josh Brolin.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and they're both great. Benedict Wong is in it,
- 0:38Speaker 1: who was on our list today. He's really good. Everybody
- 0:42Speaker 1: in it is good. And then uh, what's her name?
- 0:45Speaker 1: Maryann Harris? Amy Madigan?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Who? Who?
- 0:49Speaker 1: You'll sit there now you'll probably remember this now, but
- 0:52Speaker 1: you'll sit there when she first comes on the screen,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and then the whole time she's all of her scenes.
- 0:57Speaker 1: You keep you'll keep going, what I know? Who that
- 0:59Speaker 1: is is?
- 1:00Speaker 3: Who is that? Who is that?
- 1:03Speaker 1: It's Amy Madigan in a really bizarre performance, very very
- 1:07Speaker 1: creepy and very bizarre. And I recommend the movie. It's
- 1:11Speaker 1: it's entertaining, it's it keeps you on your toes. There's
- 1:16Speaker 1: a lot going on, and it's scary, but as we
- 1:20Speaker 1: walked into the Broadway. The ticket takers there, well, there
- 1:25Speaker 1: aren't ticket takers really. There's somebody sitting and they have
- 1:28Speaker 1: like little machines. But I always go up there, and
- 1:30Speaker 1: if there's nobody ahead of me, I just always go
- 1:33Speaker 1: up to the man or the woman that's sitting there
- 1:34Speaker 1: and say you help me buy my tickets please, because
- 1:37Speaker 1: they have like a computer there, and he'll sit there
- 1:40Speaker 1: and just say, okay, what how many tickets you need?
- 1:43Speaker 3: And he'll do all the do all the work on
- 1:45Speaker 3: you make this go. Yeah, that's kind of what I do.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I could do it myself, but it's easier, and I
- 1:51Speaker 1: just go, hey, can you make this go?
- 1:52Speaker 4: I'm always confused when they want you to pay for
- 1:55Speaker 4: the snacks on that.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd rather go over to the snack.
- 1:58Speaker 4: I found most people would and decide what I want
- 2:01Speaker 4: and then I'll pay.
- 2:02Speaker 3: That's what I do. Yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 1: As a matter of fact, when that, when that happened,
- 2:07Speaker 1: and he's so we got the tickets all around, he said,
- 2:10Speaker 1: now popcorn, and I went and my son was there
- 2:14Speaker 1: and he said, no, we're going up to the counter.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Want to get it?
- 2:16Speaker 4: Fine, that's fine, So anyway, buy the tickets.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And then we're standing by the concession stand waiting for
- 2:25Speaker 1: my kid to buy popcorn and stuff, and the guy
- 2:28Speaker 1: who sold me the tickets came walking up. He said, Hi, Bill,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I don't mean to bother you. I know you're but
- 2:35Speaker 1: but I just wanted to tell you something. And I
- 2:38Speaker 1: said okay. And he told me this story, and I said,
- 2:41Speaker 1: send that to me in an email, so I don't
- 2:45Speaker 1: I don't forget.
- 2:45Speaker 3: It in an email, which is here.
- 2:49Speaker 1: He says, Hey, Bill, this is Todd, the ticket taker
- 2:52Speaker 1: guy at s l f S. We met today before
- 2:54Speaker 1: your Catfest movie. I hope you enjoyed the antics. I
- 2:57Speaker 1: wondered what he meant by that. Yeah, and then so
- 3:00Speaker 1: I looked up at Salt Lake Film Society does have
- 3:03Speaker 1: a some Catfest video twenty twenty five.
- 3:08Speaker 4: It's a compilation of a bunch of cat videos. It's
- 3:11Speaker 4: gone viral like.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Memes and which I didn't.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I didn't go at that.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Cat's playing with cucumbers, are being scared of cucumbers like
- 3:19Speaker 4: stuff like that.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I think he knew, I mean he must he was
- 3:22Speaker 2: being silly.
- 3:22Speaker 3: I think he was just kidding me.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah, because we did have an exchange. I said I'm
- 3:26Speaker 1: going to see weapons, and he went, oh, I really
- 3:28Speaker 1: want to. I'm going to see it right probably tomorrow here,
- 3:32Speaker 1: but he said, here's my memory of the morning of
- 3:34Speaker 1: September eleventh, two thousand and one.
- 3:37Speaker 3: It was a normal morning.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I was getting ready for my teaching job, eating breakfast,
- 3:41Speaker 1: packing my lunch, you know, going off to school to teach,
- 3:44Speaker 1: all the while listening to your show like I did
- 3:46Speaker 1: every morning. Occasionally I'd call in and make a comment
- 3:49Speaker 1: or ask a question, and listen to Punk's movie reviews.
- 3:53Speaker 1: It was my morning routine to prepare me for the
- 3:55Speaker 1: challenge of teaching eighth grader's algebra. When I was on
- 3:59Speaker 1: the work mel routine meant everything to me. Well that
- 4:02Speaker 1: particular morning, I remember Carrie talking about an airplane crashing
- 4:06Speaker 1: in New York City, and as I listened, I thought, well,
- 4:09Speaker 1: it's a small plane of some sort that happens in
- 4:12Speaker 1: towns across America some from time to time, small planes
- 4:15Speaker 1: crash into buildings, and I remember you saying something like that,
- 4:18Speaker 1: isn't a small plane. Time stopped for a moment, thinking
- 4:22Speaker 1: about what might be happening. I turned on the TV
- 4:24Speaker 1: to watch the second plane fly into the second Tower live.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I knew my teaching gig was over and I would
- 4:31Speaker 1: be at my Air National Guard base for the foreseeable future.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I was right. The call came in about twenty minutes.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Wow.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I was a military policeman back then, and I knew
- 4:43Speaker 1: that my services would be needed. It was two years
- 4:46Speaker 1: before I would step back into a classroom again. My
- 4:49Speaker 1: life changed all at once that day, and I remember
- 4:52Speaker 1: you and your show plane as day. I can still
- 4:55Speaker 1: feel time stopping, as I'm sure you experienced the same anomaly.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Thanks for allowing me to share that with you today.
- 5:02Speaker 1: You and carry are part of my history, a story
- 5:06Speaker 1: I've told numerous times. Be well and best wishes with
- 5:10Speaker 1: that foot of yours. Oh he's a bicycle rider, and
- 5:14Speaker 1: he said, I used to see you riding your bike
- 5:15Speaker 1: a lot around around the Capitol in places. And I said, yeah,
- 5:18Speaker 1: I don't ride much anymore because of my foot. I
- 5:22Speaker 1: hope to see you cruising around the Capitol again soon.
- 5:24Speaker 1: And it signed Todd Rushton, and I'm sure he meant
- 5:29Speaker 1: you too, Gena.
- 5:30Speaker 3: He just said you and Carrie.
- 5:31Speaker 2: But yeah, I was there.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Gina was there as well.
- 5:34Speaker 1: And he was very nice and did his part. He
- 5:40Speaker 1: did his part when that happened, and isn't that fast?
- 5:43Speaker 2: He well that they called him up that quickly.
- 5:45Speaker 1: The minute he saw that, he said, I'm not probably
- 5:47Speaker 1: not going to back to class to teach twenty minutes.
- 5:52Speaker 3: And I assume.
- 5:53Speaker 2: By the way, he's in the Guard, right he was.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I don't know if he still is.
- 5:57Speaker 4: My point being, that's what the Guard it is for,
- 6:01Speaker 4: for this kind of thing being called. People that sign
- 6:05Speaker 4: up to be part of the National Guard are signing
- 6:07Speaker 4: up to help with that kind of thing emergence or
- 6:10Speaker 4: with natural disasters, rescuing ice cream vendors.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Anyway, it was nice to meet you, Todd, and thanks
- 6:19Speaker 1: for helping me buy my ticket.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Well, we had to buy five tickets. It was a
- 6:25Speaker 3: big deal.
- 6:26Speaker 2: That's hard email interest. I went to a freaky Friday.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I was along for the ride on an event that
- 6:42Speaker 2: was already happening.
- 6:43Speaker 3: It's too bad.
- 6:45Speaker 1: You know that there there's a two letter word that
- 6:48Speaker 1: you never know how to use.
- 6:50Speaker 4: No, no, I mean no, because it was these are
- 6:52Speaker 4: people that I wanted to spend some time with and
- 6:54Speaker 4: this was the way to spend.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Spend time in the with the movies.
- 6:58Speaker 2: I'm sitting in the Dark and we chatt.
- 7:01Speaker 4: I told my husband this after what what did you
- 7:03Speaker 4: enjoy about the movie? The car ride there and back?
- 7:06Speaker 4: Because we chatted, so it was worth that.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I watched a monkey.
- 7:12Speaker 3: You watched a monkey. The Monkey, The monkey, that's Stephen King.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's that's an old Yeah, not an old movie.
- 7:22Speaker 3: This year hilarious.
- 7:26Speaker 2: It was supposed to be kind of funny.
- 7:28Speaker 3: It was, it was, it actually was anyway,
