- 0:20some joy. Into the.
- 0:21World. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we're talking about this garden and how all of a
- 0:35sudden the heat comes on and everything changes nearly
- 0:40overnight. And I agree with him, it's a
- 0:43little, it's a little bit like sometimes you just want to yell
- 0:47when it's all going on. And we have lost a boatload of
- 0:52tomatoes just based on the fact that the heat came on so quickly
- 0:56and that they just can't keep up with the level of, you know,
- 1:01it's so humid, it's so hot. And at a certain point, the
- 1:04conditions for certain tomatoes go right down the tubes.
- 1:08And it's a well known fact. It's just we're not usually
- 1:12having this type of heat this early on.
- 1:15So we're usually able to work around it.
- 1:18This year it was wet, wet, wet. And then it got very hot quick.
- 1:25And before you knew it, here they were.
- 1:29And this, you know, the heat is on, the tomatoes are shifting.
- 1:32Things aren't working out quite the way you thought they would.
- 1:36And you're just like, oh, you've got to be kidding me.
- 1:38Seriously, This is what we're doing right now.
- 1:41But yes, this is what we're doing right now.
- 1:43So today the goal is to go out there, strip out some stuff and
- 1:49really dig in and try to figure out what can be salvaged, what
- 1:53we need to replant. Because I'm going to try to
- 1:55replant. I'm doing something a little
- 1:56different this year and I'm going to try to essentially
- 2:00double and triple plant the garden because I want to see how
- 2:04much I can get out of it now. This is a huge endeavor for more
- 2:09than one reason, not just physically, but it's a huge
- 2:12endeavour mentally because I have to keep planting what can
- 2:15work, what can't work. I now know I can get onions to
- 2:19start, so I could start the onions.
- 2:21As soon as I come back from my trip that I'm taking with my son
- 2:25in late July, I'm going to start planting the onions and
- 2:28hopefully I'll be able to get a good set of onions ready and put
- 2:33out there in time. But the point is changing my
- 2:37approach and trying something completely different and trying
- 2:40to triple plant the garden this year.
- 2:43It takes a lot of thought, it takes a lot of planning, it
- 2:47takes an intention to get it to do this.
- 2:50And there's just more overall when doing something like this.
- 2:56And someone recently asked me when I was explaining to them
- 2:59what I was going to do, they're like, why would you put yourself
- 3:02through all this? I started laughing.
- 3:04And I was like, yeah, it's really a good question when you
- 3:07say it like that. Like, why would I put myself
- 3:09through it? I don't necessarily think of
- 3:11myself as putting myself through it.
- 3:13What I tend to think of is this is what I'm doing and this is
- 3:17the reason I'm doing it, because I really love doing this stuff
- 3:21and I don't mind doing it. I do mind doing it when it's
- 3:25hotter than hell. So I have to change my hours,
- 3:29the hours I work, when I'm up, when I'm doing it, that all
- 3:32changes, that all effects. But for me right now, the most
- 3:37important part is to track out what I need to do to get through
- 3:42three seasons. We're supposed to plant almost
- 3:44300 days a year, and I really want to try it.
- 3:47And it may seem like an insane nutty approach, but if I've got
- 3:52all this time, why am I wasting it?
- 3:54And you know, we talked about not wasting time or I'll do it
- 3:58later yesterday. And I really, I, I wanted to
- 4:01share this part of it because this is a huge journey for me to
- 4:04be able to do this. And I'm going to be documenting
- 4:07it for sure because it's a very different approach physically,
- 4:11mentally, emotionally, the work that has to go in all of it.
- 4:14And one thing that I know for sure, one thing I know for sure
- 4:19is the sense of accomplishment I get when these things are like
- 4:23just on target. Now, again, lots of work, lots
- 4:27of effort, and it's all OK. So layering, putting things in,
- 4:32I've probably got about 50 plants.
- 4:34Let me see, probably about 10 of them are squash.
- 4:38The rest of them are flowers. I started lavender.
- 4:42I really like, OK, it's late in the season, but I'm trying
- 4:45because our season goes so long and I'm stretching and I'm
- 4:48pushing. And the point is, don't be
- 4:50afraid to try something different.
- 4:53Try it, It's an experiment. Am I looking for mad outcomes?
- 4:57Sure. But I also know I'm
- 4:58experimenting, which gives me permission to be easy on myself
- 5:02in the process of it. I'm learning, I'm, I'm
- 5:05designing, I'm creating differently.
- 5:07So work on that my friends, because it makes a massive
- 5:11difference. OK, I hope you have a blessed
- 5:14day and I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
