- 0:00Speaker 1: We recognize the eyes of the nation are on this race,
- 0:04Speaker 1: and I think this is a clear test about how
- 0:08Speaker 1: much we value freedom, how much we cherish our democracy,
- 0:11Speaker 1: and how much we're willing to push back on Donald Trump,
- 0:15Speaker 1: who's been o viscerating both.
- 0:18Speaker 2: So Democrats are calling in the heavy hitters as the
- 0:21Speaker 2: campaign clock ticks down. In those two governors' races we've
- 0:24Speaker 2: been talking about. In New Jersey, Democrat Mikey Cheryl is
- 0:27Speaker 2: getting a boost from Pennsylvania's Governor Josh Shapiro as well
- 0:30Speaker 2: as Arizona Senator Mark Kelly. Today it's a test drive
- 0:34Speaker 2: of sorts for the next generation of Democratic leaders as
- 0:38Speaker 2: the party searches for someone to match President Trump's hold
- 0:41Speaker 2: on the GOP. Let's bring in Fox News contributor Byron
- 0:46Speaker 2: york soron Mikey Cheryl bringing in a fellow, well, a governor,
- 0:53Speaker 2: she's not governor yet, but bringing in the governor of
- 0:55Speaker 2: Pennsylvania and bringing in an Arizona senator to bolster her campaign.
- 1:01Speaker 2: How do you assess what they'll do for her?
- 1:04Speaker 3: Well, I think you have to look at both this
- 1:06Speaker 3: campaign in New Jersey and the Virginia campaign. Have to
- 1:10Speaker 3: look at both of them in terms of the Democrats
- 1:13Speaker 3: epic struggle against President Trump right now. The President has
- 1:18Speaker 3: had all the power and all the momentum this year,
- 1:21Speaker 3: and Democrats really hope that a couple of victories in
- 1:25Speaker 3: New Jersey Virginia would show that they're not dead, that
- 1:28Speaker 3: they have momentum, some momentum going into next year's midterms.
- 1:32Speaker 3: So I think the reason you're seeing these Democratic stars
- 1:37Speaker 3: go to campaign in New Jersey Virginia is for the
- 1:42Speaker 3: sake of the larger party to get just some sort
- 1:46Speaker 3: of electoral foothold against Donald Trump right now.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Yeah, the chairman of the Democrat National Committee, Ken Martin,
- 1:53Speaker 2: basically echoed that thought. He says, they're going to springboard
- 1:58Speaker 2: with these victories.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Listen, it will spring board us into the twenty twenty
- 2:03Speaker 4: six elections with a lot of additional momentum and energy.
- 2:07Speaker 4: But we're already seeing that throughout the country. We're on
- 2:11Speaker 4: the ground turning out every single vote in places like Pennsylvania, Virginia,
- 2:16Speaker 4: New Jersey. I was just in LA yesterday turning out
- 2:20Speaker 4: votes on Prop fifty. And we're going to do everything
- 2:22Speaker 4: work can. We're not taking anything for granted, despite the
- 2:25Speaker 4: fact that we have winded our back.
- 2:28Speaker 2: We have winded our back. He says, what do you
- 2:30Speaker 2: think about that?
- 2:32Speaker 3: Not sure I would totally agree with that. Neither of
- 2:34Speaker 3: these candidates, Cheryl or Spenbergers, is super strong. If you
- 2:39Speaker 3: look at the New Jersey race, Cheryl has about a
- 2:42Speaker 3: four point lead over Chitdarelli, and huge numbers of Democrats
- 2:48Speaker 3: say that Trump is the big issue in the race.
- 2:51Speaker 3: But if you look at the polling on what the
- 2:53Speaker 3: rest of the voters say or big issues economic issues,
- 2:56Speaker 3: the cost of living, jobs, taxes, etc. Most voters seemed
- 3:00Speaker 3: to give Chitdarelli the edge over who would handle them
- 3:03Speaker 3: the best. Now in Virginia, you know you have just
- 3:06Speaker 3: a bit of a mess. You have Jay Jones, the
- 3:08Speaker 3: Democratic candidate for attorney General, saying using all these texts,
- 3:14Speaker 3: these sort of murderous texts that he sent out a
- 3:18Speaker 3: while back, plus plus getting easy treatment in a speeding
- 3:23Speaker 3: case in which he was caught driving one hundred and
- 3:25Speaker 3: sixteen miles an hour in a seventy mile an hour range.
- 3:30Speaker 3: He has actually fallen behind in his race, but the
- 3:35Speaker 3: governor candidate, Spanberger is up by about seven points significant lead,
- 3:40Speaker 3: although it's about five points less than it was a
- 3:43Speaker 3: couple of months ago, so right now the momentum does
- 3:46Speaker 3: not seem to be on the Democratic side.
- 3:49Speaker 2: President Trump was holding a tell rally last evening with
- 3:53Speaker 2: Jack Chitterrelly, the Republican candidate in New Jersey. Here's what
- 3:57Speaker 2: the President had to say about it.
- 4:00Speaker 5: Twenty four of my campaign received the most votes for
- 4:02Speaker 5: a Republican presidential candidate in New Jersey's history. There's never
- 4:07Speaker 5: been a candidate for president or for any other office.
- 4:12Speaker 5: I must tell you that received anywhere near the number
- 4:15Speaker 5: of votes that I got. So people like me there.
- 4:18Speaker 5: It's typically not that Republican, but turning Republican very quickly,
- 4:23Speaker 5: and I have to say the registrations for the Republican
- 4:27Speaker 5: Party are starring.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Of course, he's been well known in New York as
- 4:31Speaker 2: a developer for decades, but you know, he says that
- 4:35Speaker 2: things are turning red in New Jersey. Would you argue
- 4:38Speaker 2: with that?
- 4:39Speaker 3: Well, you know, Trump really made an effort in New
- 4:42Speaker 3: Jersey in the twenty twenty four election, had a huge
- 4:45Speaker 3: rally on the shore, and obviously campaigned also in New
- 4:50Speaker 3: York next door. So that was kind of unusual campaigning
- 4:53Speaker 3: for a Republican president, and I think clearly. Even though
- 4:57Speaker 3: obviously Democrats are just almost unanimously united against him, the
- 5:02Speaker 3: President's endorsement and his supports still a big thing for
- 5:06Speaker 3: Republicans in New Jersey and with some independence, so it
- 5:10Speaker 3: certainly doesn't hurt what Trump is doing. And the question
- 5:13Speaker 3: is going to be whether they're just enough Republicans and
- 5:17Speaker 3: independents to get over all the Democrats who were so
- 5:22Speaker 3: motivated to vote against Donald Trump.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be an interesting race to watch.
- 5:28Speaker 2: We had Mikey Cheryl up their lives. She's having a
- 5:31Speaker 2: rally in New Jersey right now. She's a Democrat candidate obviously,
