Latest / Girls Gone Hallmark | Hallmark Movie Reviews / Ride Season 1 Episode 2 Recap ‘Rodeo and Juliet’
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Valeria has this idea about sheep, like buying sheep, I
- 0:04Speaker 1: don't shaving sheep. I don't know.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hey, everybody, Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I'm Megan, I'm Wendy, and today we're reviewing Ride season one,
- 0:28Speaker 2: episode two, Rodeo and Juliet, which originally aired on Sunday,
- 0:33Speaker 2: April second on the Hallmark Channel. If you'd like to
- 0:36Speaker 2: connect with us outside of the podcast, we'd love to
- 0:39Speaker 2: have you join us on Instagram. You can find us
- 0:41Speaker 2: both at Girls Gone Hallmark and at Megan and Wendy.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Always jump into our Facebook group Girls Gone Hallmark. I
- 0:48Speaker 1: will say Ryde has been a little bit slow on
- 0:52Speaker 1: the uptick talking over there, but so was the Way home. Hmm.
- 0:57Speaker 1: But that doesn't mean people aren't watching it.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Well, it's premiere very well, with one point three million
- 1:02Speaker 2: on premiere date, so I'm curious to see the numbers
- 1:06Speaker 2: are not out as of the recording of this episode.
- 1:08Speaker 2: For episode two, can I give you a little bit
- 1:11Speaker 2: of criticism about this show?
- 1:13Speaker 1: Up top?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Oh, I thought you were to say about me? Go ahead, cool?
- 1:16Speaker 1: Why would I say about you? My gosh? Okay, I
- 1:22Speaker 1: am accustomed to watching shows that are written to be
- 1:27Speaker 1: binge watched, you know what I mean, maybe huge cliffhangers
- 1:31Speaker 1: at the end, so then you want to watch the
- 1:33Speaker 1: next one. I don't feel that this show is written
- 1:36Speaker 1: like that.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I would agree with that, that's all.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And maybe I'm just programmed now to like want to
- 1:41Speaker 1: consume one after another after another.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I have been watching a lot of I would say
- 1:47Speaker 2: episodic television, television that's not dropping all at once, and
- 1:50Speaker 2: some of it is streaming. But I kind of like
- 1:53Speaker 2: that it a doesn't dump me with ten hours of
- 1:57Speaker 2: viewing that feels overwhelming mm hmm and lately wanting more.
- 2:02Speaker 2: But I would agree. I think shows that are written
- 2:04Speaker 2: for binge watching are written differently.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Well. I think that The Way Home was written to
- 2:11Speaker 1: be binge watched.
- 2:12Speaker 2: It's always like way the Huge was supposed to be
- 2:15Speaker 2: a Netflix series.
- 2:16Speaker 1: No, I didn't know that. Yes, it would have done
- 2:19Speaker 1: very well on Netflix.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I think the EVP of Programming at Crown Media, her
- 2:24Speaker 2: name is Lisa Hamilton Daily, brought it over with her.
- 2:28Speaker 2: She was a former Netflix executive.
- 2:31Speaker 1: That's really interesting.
- 2:32Speaker 2: So I think that speaks perfectly to your point that
- 2:36Speaker 2: it was originally written to be a Netflix show and
- 2:38Speaker 2: therefore binge able.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Are you ready for a synopsis for Rodeo and Juliette
- 2:44Speaker 1: I am. After Cash's ride, the mc murray's are back
- 2:48Speaker 1: in business, Tough and Valeria are forced to work on
- 2:52Speaker 1: their friendship as they work to save the Rancho.
- 2:56Speaker 2: We open with more sweeping ranch scenes and we see
- 3:00Speaker 2: Cash fake interviewing Missy about the Rodeo. They're joking around
- 3:03Speaker 2: and he asks her, where do you see yourself in
- 3:05Speaker 2: five years? And she jokes that she sees herself running
- 3:08Speaker 2: for her office and I feel like this is like
- 3:10Speaker 2: a rodeo queen pageant type interview. M He's like, that's
- 3:14Speaker 2: a Valeria answer, and she says her real answer is
- 3:17Speaker 2: I see myself right here.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And he asks her.
- 3:19Speaker 2: About and illusions, which are like dancing horses, and he says,
- 3:23Speaker 2: isn't that part of your dream? And she's surprised that
- 3:25Speaker 2: he knows that, And they're talking, saying the past few
- 3:28Speaker 2: months have him been easy, but they have him been terrible,
- 3:31Speaker 2: And then in the distance we hear Isabelle call out
- 3:35Speaker 2: Austin's back, and that's the moment we realize that this
- 3:38Speaker 2: is a flashback. Austin exits his truck, waving around his trophy,
- 3:43Speaker 2: hugs his mom and this spell between Missy and Cash
- 3:46Speaker 2: it's broken. He closes their conversation with You're gonna be
- 3:49Speaker 2: the best miss Rodeo Rocky Mountain there's ever been, and
- 3:52Speaker 2: Missy runs off to Austin.
- 3:54Speaker 1: The next thing, we are back in present day and
- 3:56Speaker 1: isabel and Casher in the kitchen. Isabelle is telling Missy
- 4:00Speaker 1: is going to be a great coach, and he says
- 4:02Speaker 1: he needs a new bull, not a new coach. Side note,
- 4:06Speaker 1: I felt this was a conversation that you've had with
- 4:08Speaker 1: your own son, Megan.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Do you know what I'm talking about? I need a
- 4:12Speaker 2: new bowling ball that's going to be the thing that
- 4:14Speaker 2: makes me great.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah. Isabelle says that they can't afford a new bull,
- 4:17Speaker 1: and Missy walks in as Isabelle is lecturing Cash that
- 4:20Speaker 1: Missy was the only one to get his head right
- 4:23Speaker 1: before the last ride and Cashton asks Missy about what
- 4:28Speaker 1: about your brand ambassadorship with Frontier and she says she's
- 4:32Speaker 1: just gonna let him know that it needs to be
- 4:34Speaker 1: done from McMurray ranch, at least until Cash gets his sponsorship.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Side note here, I think it's kind of weird that
- 4:40Speaker 1: it's the same man who is in control of the
- 4:43Speaker 1: brand ambassadorship, who was also in control of Cash's sponsorship.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Well he was Austin's sponsor as well.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, but I just think it's weird.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I think they just got to keep him in the
- 4:56Speaker 2: mix somehow, because clearly Isabelle has issues with jb M.
- 5:02Speaker 2: And I think that's also the only way it works
- 5:04Speaker 2: to have like Austin be the face of these ad campaigns.
- 5:08Speaker 2: And yeah, Missy's like this tiny little footnote, it's just.
- 5:12Speaker 1: The money man.
- 5:14Speaker 2: He's the money man.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Yeah. So Tough walks in and he's annoyed at the
- 5:18Speaker 1: number of texts that Valeria has already sent him that
- 5:21Speaker 1: morning about her ideas to shake up the ranch. And
- 5:26Speaker 1: Valeria has this idea about sheep, like buying sheep, I
- 5:30Speaker 1: don't shaving sheep. I don't know, and Tough does not
- 5:33Speaker 1: like it, and Isabelle's like, look, we are super in debt,
- 5:37Speaker 1: so any you know, any way to get this family,
- 5:40Speaker 1: like to save the ranch, Like, let's let's hear your ideas.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And next we have Cash He offers up to ride
- 5:47Speaker 1: in local competitions, you know, to make a little money,
- 5:50Speaker 1: but Missy tells him, Nope, you're gonna get hurt before Cheyenne.
- 5:54Speaker 2: That's right. We cut to Isabelle walking around her office.
- 5:57Speaker 2: She's thinking about something and she makes a phone call
- 6:01Speaker 2: and whoever she's speaking to, I think it's Hank, but
- 6:04Speaker 2: she says she's not ready to sell the ranch and
- 6:06Speaker 2: she needs a plan B and we get an opening
- 6:10Speaker 2: title and I feel like we kind of had this
- 6:12Speaker 2: information already.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, didn't they talk about that in the pilot
- 6:16Speaker 1: at the end?
- 6:17Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, that's so too. We see Missy walking on
- 6:19Speaker 2: the ranch and she runs into Cash Mendon of Fence
- 6:22Speaker 2: and she wants to talk to him about coaching, and
- 6:25Speaker 2: Missy says, it's not about you not being good, but
- 6:27Speaker 2: you could be a star with me. And Cash says
- 6:30Speaker 2: Austin didn't have a coach, and this just launches a
- 6:35Speaker 2: theme of this episode, and Missy says, I was Austin's
- 6:38Speaker 2: uncredited coach. And she talks again about talking to Frontier
- 6:42Speaker 2: about being a remote influencer, and I just wonder, is
- 6:45Speaker 2: there anybody under the age of twenty five on this
- 6:47Speaker 2: staff who's shouting that's not how any of this works.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Like you can be an influencer and have another job,
- 6:56Speaker 2: and in fact, your other job makes you a better
- 6:59Speaker 2: influencer in this case.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like I'm super critical of that particular
- 7:05Speaker 1: storyline as well.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Oh, there's so much wrong with it. The homework ranch
- 7:09Speaker 2: audience doesn't care about that. I know of it.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I know, I know, I do me too. Val and
- 7:16Speaker 1: Tough are in the stables, and she apologized for stepping
- 7:19Speaker 1: on his toes, but she's just trying to be creative,
- 7:22Speaker 1: and he throws some shade at her and asks if
- 7:25Speaker 1: she's going to be around to execute her creativity.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Isabelle and Hanker in the kitchen, and she appears to
- 7:30Speaker 2: be pitching him to talk to an investor. We don't
- 7:34Speaker 2: know who the investor is yet. He says, you deserve
- 7:37Speaker 2: to retire with a healthy nesting, and she takes issue
- 7:39Speaker 2: with this, either because she's not ready to retire or
- 7:42Speaker 2: she doesn't think she's quite old enough to be thinking
- 7:45Speaker 2: about retirement. He just wants what's best for Canyon, she thinks,
- 7:49Speaker 2: and she wants what's best for the ranch. She says,
- 7:51Speaker 2: I just need you to be on my side, and
- 7:52Speaker 2: he says, I've been on your side since grade school.
- 7:56Speaker 2: In fact, I might be too loyal, you know.
- 7:58Speaker 1: He says in this scene he goes Canyon could be
- 8:01Speaker 1: the next Bozeman, and I had to laugh out loud
- 8:03Speaker 1: because we know a couple of people who live in Bozeman.
- 8:06Speaker 1: We do. Yeah, I was like, oh, was that like
- 8:08Speaker 1: a hot draw? Like is that the Franklin, Tennessee you
- 8:12Speaker 1: know of Montana? Yeah?
- 8:14Speaker 2: Do you know it is very expensive to live in Bozeman?
- 8:16Speaker 1: I didn't know how I did bonkers, Well, so is Franklin. Indeed,
- 8:25Speaker 1: Missy's now at Frontier Jeans. Now I'm wondering is she
- 8:28Speaker 1: in Houston?
- 8:29Speaker 2: I kind of think so, okay, but because they don't
- 8:32Speaker 2: have offices in Colorado.
- 8:36Speaker 1: But are you just telling me that Missy flew to
- 8:38Speaker 1: Houston that day or did she drive? Like what's happening here?
- 8:42Speaker 1: Like it's very this like timeline is very confusing to me.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Huh. I agree?
- 8:48Speaker 1: And I just finished a series about time travel, which
- 8:51Speaker 1: I felt like I got to this timeline. I'm like, Houston, like,
- 8:55Speaker 1: let's make it at least Denver, you know what I mean?
- 8:58Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 8:58Speaker 1: Anyway, Missy's our Frontier Jeans and she's talking to JB
- 9:01Speaker 1: and She tells them she needs to be at the
- 9:04Speaker 1: ranch and hopes that they'll move their deal to Canyon,
- 9:07Speaker 1: And she pitches him a different campaign with the focus
- 9:09Speaker 1: on the McMurray ranch, and JB likes this idea. And
- 9:13Speaker 1: here she promises to double their click throughs in one week,
- 9:17Speaker 1: and he really likes that idea. Now, I feel, like
- 9:21Speaker 1: you mentioned earlier the audience here, are they going to
- 9:25Speaker 1: understand what the clickthroughs is and all that jargon?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Well, that's a good question. Can I poke some holes
- 9:32Speaker 2: in the rest of their marketing plan?
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yes, ma'am one.
- 9:35Speaker 2: JB is resistant because he says there aren't any frontier
- 9:38Speaker 2: stores there in Canyon. JB, she is an internet influencer.
- 9:43Speaker 2: The people don't have to live where she lives to
- 9:46Speaker 2: look at her photos. Oh my gosh. Also, she says,
- 9:52Speaker 2: I'm gonna double your click through rates in a week,
- 9:55Speaker 2: and I this is also not how influencer marketing works,
- 9:58Speaker 2: because it is about building brand loyalty. So while someone
- 10:02Speaker 2: might not immediately purchase the jeans you're wear, over time,
- 10:06Speaker 2: they're gonna be like, that's what Missy McMurray wears. The
- 10:09Speaker 2: next time I go buy jeans, I'm gonna look at
- 10:11Speaker 2: Frontier jeans because this super cute girl who's a Rodeo
- 10:15Speaker 2: queen wears them like it's not an instant transaction.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Right, And even if they don't have frontier stores, like,
- 10:22Speaker 1: they're gonna be shopping online.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Yes, it's the Internet.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I know, I know, I know. It drives me nuts.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Missy's in this next scene driving home from who knows
- 10:34Speaker 1: where the airport Texas, Texas, I don't know, but she
- 10:38Speaker 1: is listening to a talk show hosted by Desiree something
- 10:42Speaker 1: or other and it's about rodeo stuff and she said, no,
- 10:47Speaker 1: I'm not being disrespectful. She's annoyed at the host for
- 10:50Speaker 1: blaming a female bronco writer. The whole sentiment of this
- 10:55Speaker 1: like talk show is that she, the woman who died,
- 10:59Speaker 1: was great at her sport, but also the talk show
- 11:03Speaker 1: host kind of minimizes her as a as an athlete.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, the theme of this episode is misogyny.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Okay, there we go.
- 11:12Speaker 2: That's great, Little Ladies is what they could have titled
- 11:15Speaker 2: this episode.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, And the host says something about having a
- 11:18Speaker 1: book signing in Canyon and Missy looks interested.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Back at the rand Valaria agreets Missy, and things are
- 11:25Speaker 2: still awkward between these two former best friends, and Missy's
- 11:29Speaker 2: talking about how she's trying her best to make this
- 11:31Speaker 2: brand ambassadorship work, but she doesn't know how she's actually
- 11:35Speaker 2: going to do what she promised JB she was capable
- 11:38Speaker 2: of doing, and Valarius says, well, she looks and she's like, wow,
- 11:42Speaker 2: they've got a ton of followers. She says, you should
- 11:44Speaker 2: post from Austin socials because he's got a ton of
- 11:48Speaker 2: followers too, and Missy thinks that would be too easy.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Don't ride on the coattails all your man m in
- 11:56Speaker 2: comes Hank and Hawkeye Gus, and Missy thinks Gus is
- 11:59Speaker 2: there to see her, and it's kind of a little
- 12:01Speaker 2: bit embarrassing when he's like actually, turns out Gus is
- 12:05Speaker 2: from an oil family. Valeria and Cash are pissed. They joke,
- 12:09Speaker 2: how many wells do you think he's gonna dig? And
- 12:11Speaker 2: they're not happy to see him on their ranch and
- 12:14Speaker 2: we cut to commercial.
- 12:16Speaker 1: So this is the plan, B the investor mm hmm.
- 12:19Speaker 1: We come back from commercial and Gus is looking at
- 12:22Speaker 1: the ranch and he thinks it's beautiful and he tells Isabelle,
- 12:26Speaker 1: you know he's looking to get out of the oil
- 12:28Speaker 1: business and into ranching.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And in the kitchen, they're all asking questions about what
- 12:32Speaker 2: it means to have Gus as an investor, and isabel
- 12:35Speaker 2: tries to tell them nothing's gonna change. She's just gonna
- 12:37Speaker 2: be the money guy. I just just give it a shot.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And everyone is so contrary in this episode. I just
- 12:43Speaker 2: want to be like, shut up. They're worried he'll overstep Valeria.
- 12:47Speaker 2: There's no love loss, she says, Oh, rich people are
- 12:49Speaker 2: the same. They think everything is for sale. But isabel says,
- 12:52Speaker 2: we need a bigger plan than sheep. And in this
- 12:54Speaker 2: scene there's lots of crossed arms and sour puss looking faces,
- 12:58Speaker 2: but Isabelle says, he's come in to dinner, so be
- 13:01Speaker 2: on your best behavior tomorrow night.
- 13:02Speaker 1: And first of all, Valeria, stand down, girl. You are
- 13:05Speaker 1: not family right for.
- 13:07Speaker 2: A ranch hand promoted in this episode. But at this point, yeah,
- 13:11Speaker 2: I'm like, it is not your decision. Nope, it is
- 13:15Speaker 2: Isabelle's decision. Quite frankly, yes, So I'm super annoyed of
- 13:19Speaker 2: the and I'm just calling her our gal val from
- 13:22Speaker 2: here on because every time I see Valeria, I want
- 13:26Speaker 2: to say Valeria and so yeah, she says val to me,
- 13:29Speaker 2: now and our next thing. Cash and Missy are out
- 13:33Speaker 2: on the ranch. They're in like a what is that ring?
- 13:37Speaker 2: M hmm, and she's coaching him now on like exercise
- 13:41Speaker 2: and getting ready for competition, and he's super reluctant, but
- 13:46Speaker 2: he starts to do what she says, Yeah, I have
- 13:50Speaker 2: cash kettlebells. We cut to Tough and Valeria getting out
- 13:53Speaker 2: of a truck and Valaria is asking about Tuff's love
- 13:55Speaker 2: life and he says he's not dating, but he has
- 13:58Speaker 2: a eate and they're there to check out the sheep
- 14:01Speaker 2: and he says, how did you know these sheep were
- 14:02Speaker 2: for sale? And she says, I still got some friends
- 14:04Speaker 2: around here, and then Tuck mentions the slazy guy we
- 14:08Speaker 2: saw a couple times in episode one who we learned
- 14:10Speaker 2: his name, Tucker Clark. He apparently works at the pawn
- 14:13Speaker 2: shop and he's got a neck tattoo and v Larry says,
- 14:16Speaker 2: I've I've heard of him, but I've never met him,
- 14:18Speaker 2: and Tough does not believe this. Vlaria finds mister Brigsby
- 14:21Speaker 2: and she asks him about the sheep, and he's angry
- 14:23Speaker 2: at her and tells her to get off my land
- 14:25Speaker 2: and I'm not gonna be selling you anything, and she says, oh,
- 14:28Speaker 2: I guess he still remembers. Apparently she used to beat
- 14:31Speaker 2: his daughter in barrel racing, and so much for the sheep.
- 14:34Speaker 2: But Tough is thrilled by this news. That is not
- 14:37Speaker 2: a good enough excuse.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I was hoping for something more.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Here, right, we were gonna get some of the dirt that
- 14:43Speaker 2: we've been yeah, dancing around.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I was like, it's just because she was a better
- 14:48Speaker 1: rider than your daughter. Like that's like, I was like,
- 14:51Speaker 1: is she lying here? We're back to Cash and Missy
- 14:55Speaker 1: working out, and Cash is already annoyed and he storms off.
- 15:00Speaker 1: That's all I have here, Like, I guess he wasn't
- 15:02Speaker 1: liking her coaching at this moment. I don't know I have.
- 15:06Speaker 2: We're back to Cash planking, which I think is told
- 15:09Speaker 2: me that she's got him kettlebelling in one scene and
- 15:10Speaker 2: planking in the next, Like this rodeo dude is like,
- 15:12Speaker 2: get the hell out of here.
- 15:14Speaker 1: In his cowboy boots.
- 15:15Speaker 2: No less totally. He's mad that she's dropped her ambassadorship.
- 15:18Speaker 2: He's mad that she's coaching him, mad that he's not
- 15:20Speaker 2: as good as Austin, although part of this is unspoken,
- 15:23Speaker 2: but yes, you got.
- 15:26Speaker 1: All that from what twenty second scene, and then we
- 15:31Speaker 1: had to a commercial.
- 15:33Speaker 2: We see shots of the downtown Canyon area outside of
- 15:38Speaker 2: Desiree Lockhart's and books signing, and inside Jannine. Jannine's and
- 15:43Speaker 2: asks if Missy's gonna sell Desiree jeans. Missy says no,
- 15:46Speaker 2: I'm just going to give them to her. But Janine,
- 15:49Speaker 2: I hope they give her a bigger arc than this,
- 15:51Speaker 2: you know. She says, oh, apparently death sells, but Missy
- 15:53Speaker 2: isn't going to go that route. Missy approaches Desiree gives
- 15:57Speaker 2: her the jeans, and Desiree says, you want a sealfie,
- 15:59Speaker 2: but Missy wants more than that. She wants to be
- 16:02Speaker 2: on her show and does Ray's like, I don't know
- 16:06Speaker 2: about having a rodeo queen on my show. She says
- 16:09Speaker 2: a frontier wants to pay for ad space, They're welcome
- 16:11Speaker 2: to pony up the money, and then Missy says, by
- 16:14Speaker 2: the way, I'm the widow of Austin McMurray, and Dosrey goes, oh, well,
- 16:19Speaker 2: in the that case, I really wanted to have Austin
- 16:21Speaker 2: on the show, so you should stick around and we'll talk.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Yeah, she totally pulls the widow card, and you see
- 16:26Speaker 1: Missy likes or not Missy see Jenny like smirking to
- 16:30Speaker 1: the sacket. Next seing Missy's back at home and Val
- 16:33Speaker 1: walks in and says, it looks like Austin McMurray's widow
- 16:36Speaker 1: book the show. Missy's a little bit disappointed because it
- 16:39Speaker 1: has nothing to do with her, but instead, you know,
- 16:42Speaker 1: being Austin's widow. And she comes across this ring box
- 16:47Speaker 1: that Austin proposed with and she's like setting out trinkets
- 16:51Speaker 1: I don't know, and Foul encourages Missy like you need
- 16:54Speaker 1: to make room for your own achievements here stop kind
- 16:58Speaker 1: of like living because of Austin's achievements.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I blew past a detail in this scene until
- 17:05Speaker 2: the very end of the episode because when she pulls
- 17:07Speaker 2: out that wooden ring box, she says, oh, he knew
- 17:10Speaker 2: me so well. And then we come back to this
- 17:12Speaker 2: later in the episode.
- 17:14Speaker 1: That's right.
- 17:14Speaker 2: We cut to the boys helping Isabelle unload groceries, and
- 17:17Speaker 2: incomes Gus and as annoyed as I am, with cash
- 17:21Speaker 2: and tough in their attitude about this investor. It is
- 17:24Speaker 2: kind of funny when Cash sees Gus get out of
- 17:27Speaker 2: the truck and goes, oh, you think you bought those
- 17:29Speaker 2: boots on swait. Here, Gus is very polite. He's brought
- 17:32Speaker 2: a pie and two bottles of wine, and Tough and
- 17:33Speaker 2: Cash are real dicks about the whole thing, and he
- 17:35Speaker 2: joke about the wine being from a great year and
- 17:38Speaker 2: he's just being polite. Dude, can't win.
- 17:41Speaker 1: No, not at all. Isabelle explains here to Gus, said
- 17:45Speaker 1: they're going to do evening rounds to show him what
- 17:47Speaker 1: that ranch life is really like. And they headed to
- 17:49Speaker 1: the stables, and this is where we see like Missy
- 17:53Speaker 1: and Val they're like preparing milk for the calves, and
- 17:57Speaker 1: Isabelle dismisses Val. Val does not seem to like that
- 18:00Speaker 1: so much, but she keeps Missy around and is like
- 18:04Speaker 1: using Missy to help Gus like feed the orphan calves.
- 18:08Speaker 1: And he says what they have there special and he
- 18:11Speaker 1: wants to be a part of it, and Isabelle leaves
- 18:13Speaker 1: the two of them missing. Gus are chatting and he
- 18:16Speaker 1: confesses he knew that she would be able to make
- 18:19Speaker 1: Murray ranch, and just as this conversation is happening, Cash
- 18:23Speaker 1: walks up and he wants to know what's up, and
- 18:26Speaker 1: he is annoyed that Gus is wooing the town's widow.
- 18:29Speaker 1: He got a little it's here because I'm like, is
- 18:32Speaker 1: he jealous or is he being protective or both?
- 18:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, good point. It's time for dessert.
- 18:40Speaker 1: And by the way, they're eating Limon ring pie, which
- 18:43Speaker 1: is my favorite pie ever.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Just a side note, Gus asked Missy about being on
- 18:49Speaker 2: Desiray show, and Isabelle says, be careful because Dosray can
- 18:52Speaker 2: get people to reveal secrets, and Gus says, talk about
- 18:56Speaker 2: your trick writing, and he tells the table that he
- 18:58Speaker 2: and his niece are fans of her trick, and Cash
- 19:00Speaker 2: is being an ass saying, oh, that's convenience that you're
- 19:03Speaker 2: a fan, and also you want to invest in this ranch.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Missy butts in and says, maybe I'll talk about being
- 19:08Speaker 2: a rodeo coach and Cash us know anything about bull
- 19:11Speaker 2: riding Gus, And Gus makes the mistake of saying he's
- 19:15Speaker 2: been to the running of the bulls and tough scoffs
- 19:17Speaker 2: because that's the same and honestly. Gus holds his own
- 19:20Speaker 2: in this whole saying, he says, I know it's not
- 19:22Speaker 2: that I can appreciate their strength and their speed. Valeria
- 19:26Speaker 2: quizes him on how many bulls you need to breed
- 19:28Speaker 2: a hundred cows, and Gus jokes about the lucky bull
- 19:31Speaker 2: in that situation, which is kind of an unfortunate joke.
- 19:33Speaker 2: But no one is softening towards Gus in this moment.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Missy tries to explain how special the ranch is to
- 19:39Speaker 2: them and why they're so defensive, but Valeria can't let
- 19:43Speaker 2: it go. She's asking him about your family legacy, and
- 19:45Speaker 2: he says, I know my family has a bad reputation,
- 19:48Speaker 2: but that's why I want to do this. Cash says
- 19:50Speaker 2: he's proven something to his daddy, but Gus holds his
- 19:53Speaker 2: own with this jolly bunch of assholes, and he says,
- 19:56Speaker 2: all I have is my word, but I won't stay
- 19:59Speaker 2: where I'm not welcome, and he leaves, and Isabelle is
- 20:03Speaker 2: pissed at tough Cash and Valaria and says, you could
- 20:06Speaker 2: have just lost us the ranch.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Yeah, your sheep ain't saving the ranch.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Valeria.
- 20:13Speaker 1: We come back from commercial and Missy and Isabella are
- 20:16Speaker 1: cleaning the stables and Missy asks Isabelle about the radio interview,
- 20:20Speaker 1: wants to know her opinion on it. Missy tells her that,
- 20:23Speaker 1: you know, she has some hesitation about talking about Austin
- 20:27Speaker 1: and exploiting him to sell jeans, but Isabelle is supportive
- 20:30Speaker 1: to Missy and encourages her to tell her own story.
- 20:34Speaker 2: And we see Valeria loading her horse up and tough
- 20:37Speaker 2: things she's leaving. She's leaving again, but she says, no,
- 20:40Speaker 2: I'm going to sell my horse to Brisby because the
- 20:42Speaker 2: reason I was beating his daughter is because my horse
- 20:45Speaker 2: is better. She wants to get him to sell in
- 20:47Speaker 2: the sheep this way, but Tough doesn't want her to
- 20:50Speaker 2: do that. Apparently he has another idea.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Next scene, Missy is on the phone with JB from
- 20:54Speaker 1: Frontier and he's heard about the potential radio interview she's
- 20:57Speaker 1: going to do with Desiree Lockhart and he's not.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Happy about it.
- 21:01Speaker 1: He tells her that she needs to cancel and then
- 21:04Speaker 1: hangs up on her, and she's confused at his demands.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Just then, she reposts a photo of her and Desiree
- 21:11Speaker 1: from Austin's what appears to be Instagram, but it's not Instagram.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:17Speaker 1: And then the next scene, right after we have Missy
- 21:20Speaker 1: is at the radio interview. She's completely defied JB's demands
- 21:26Speaker 1: of her canceling it, and Desert is asking a ton
- 21:29Speaker 1: of questions about Austin. And here we have like we
- 21:31Speaker 1: see Missy try to like chime in about, you know,
- 21:34Speaker 1: being a brand ambassador for Frontier and Desire is not
- 21:37Speaker 1: having any talk other than Austin. And then they take
- 21:43Speaker 1: some phone calls in color. Chad from Canyon calls in
- 21:46Speaker 1: it's cash and he asks Missy the same question we
- 21:50Speaker 1: see asked him the very first scene, how does she
- 21:53Speaker 1: see herself in five years? And then she goes on
- 21:56Speaker 1: to like promote her genes again. I guess I mean
- 21:59Speaker 1: she has nice self reflection here.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Yeah, sheds her own story to tell, right.
- 22:04Speaker 1: But in the end she gets her like jeans mentioned
- 22:08Speaker 1: which was the goal? Was it?
- 22:10Speaker 2: Not?
- 22:10Speaker 1: Okay?
- 22:11Speaker 2: M In her truck, she gets a call from JB,
- 22:13Speaker 2: who's scolding her for being unprofessional put through the magic
- 22:16Speaker 2: of this fake internet that they live in, trafficked to
- 22:18Speaker 2: the website Spiked during her interview. He says he still
- 22:21Speaker 2: has something to prove, but he softened a little bit,
- 22:23Speaker 2: and let me tell you this CEO is entirely too
- 22:25Speaker 2: involved in influencer relations for this giant company.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Tough, okay, this is, this is I have one sentence
- 22:33Speaker 1: for the next scene. Tough and Val go back out
- 22:35Speaker 1: to the sheep farmer with an offer and he accepts.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Yeah. Basically, multiple income streams for the mc murrays.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Oh yeah. Missy meets Isabelle outside of the ranch and
- 22:46Speaker 1: isabel tells her that she's proud of Missy's interview and
- 22:50Speaker 1: pokes fun about Cash calling in here. Missy promises Cash
- 22:53Speaker 1: will land the sponsorship and they will save the ranch,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and she also promises to keep Cash alive.
- 22:59Speaker 2: I do everything I can to make sure he stays safe.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I mean, I don't blame Isabelle. I would not want
- 23:05Speaker 2: my son if my husband and other son had also
- 23:08Speaker 2: died doing the same.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I understand her reservations, yes, But also in the
- 23:13Speaker 1: same breath, she's telling Missy like, you are going to
- 23:15Speaker 1: be an excellent coach.
- 23:17Speaker 2: So yeah, if I can't stop the train, at least
- 23:20Speaker 2: I can guide the direction it's going. Yeah, okay, that's fair.
- 23:23Speaker 2: We see isabel in her office and Tough and Val
- 23:25Speaker 2: join her and Isabel announces she's making them co forman
- 23:28Speaker 2: and naturally, Tough is not thrilled by this idea, but
- 23:31Speaker 2: she says it'll free you up a little bit because
- 23:33Speaker 2: I need you to step in as cash as Bullfighter.
- 23:35Speaker 2: So again, I don't like it, but I'm gonna put
- 23:38Speaker 2: the best people with him possible.
- 23:40Speaker 1: The next time we have Tough in his date are
- 23:42Speaker 1: having a beer and I'm sorry, I tell you or
- 23:46Speaker 1: I know, yes, you knew that this guy was going
- 23:48Speaker 1: to be an ongoing suiture for Tough. But do we
- 23:52Speaker 1: have his name?
- 23:54Speaker 2: Well, only from IMDb, they never say in the episode,
- 23:57Speaker 2: and it's Julian.
- 23:58Speaker 1: So Julian asks about like Tough's music, and he explains
- 24:02Speaker 1: it's just a hobby, you know, and Tough is kind
- 24:05Speaker 1: of like in this what am I doing with my life?
- 24:08Speaker 2: I like music.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Now been demoted to co foreman with Val and I'm
- 24:14Speaker 1: getting back into the bull fighter stuff, and Julian tells him, hey, look,
- 24:19Speaker 1: is this is not a demotion, this is a read statement.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Tough likes that idea. I guess, I don't know. I
- 24:26Speaker 1: found this scene to be really weird, only because I
- 24:28Speaker 1: feel like these two have zero chemistry. Oh, In my opinion,
- 24:33Speaker 1: I need they need.
- 24:34Speaker 2: To develop it more. I feel like they're being very
- 24:38Speaker 2: gentle with the Hallmark viewer on this storyline. Perhaps Mincy's
- 24:42Speaker 2: in her room looking at Austin's buckles and memorabilia. Cash
- 24:46Speaker 2: comes in and says there's a bull on the way
- 24:48Speaker 2: to the ranch and he knows she was behind it
- 24:50Speaker 2: after her talk with Isabelle, and he says, I'm willing
- 24:53Speaker 2: to try this coaching thing if you are in Doug Cash,
- 24:56Speaker 2: she has been trying. They say they need to set
- 24:59Speaker 2: some ground rules. I don't have. We talk about what
- 25:00Speaker 2: those ground rules are, but they shake on these ground
- 25:02Speaker 2: rules that they haven't discussed, and Missy gets a message
- 25:05Speaker 2: and excuses herself. But Cash is about to leave and
- 25:08Speaker 2: he spots the wooden box from earlier, and we have
- 25:11Speaker 2: a flashback to the opening scene, and as Missy's walking away,
- 25:15Speaker 2: we see Cash put that wooden box in his pocket.
- 25:17Speaker 2: We see Austin and Cash catching up. Austin says, I'm
- 25:20Speaker 2: gonna propose, and Cash is kind of reserved about this. Again,
- 25:24Speaker 2: this goes back to the whole theme of this episode.
- 25:26Speaker 2: He says she can't be a rodeo queen if she
- 25:28Speaker 2: gets married, and Austin says she can say no if
- 25:31Speaker 2: she wants cash. Is pissed. He hops down from the truck,
- 25:34Speaker 2: goes around to his glove compartment and pulls out the
- 25:37Speaker 2: dancing horse box and he empties out a necklace from
- 25:40Speaker 2: the box and he gives Austin the box and says,
- 25:43Speaker 2: you have to use this to propose because she loves
- 25:46Speaker 2: those dancing horses and your recall, Missy said, Austin just
- 25:50Speaker 2: knew me so Well, here's my question.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Why can't she be miss Rodeo Queen if she's married,
- 25:56Speaker 1: she can't be missus Rodeo Queen.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Well maybe I don't know, Like you can't be Miss
- 26:01Speaker 2: America if you're married either.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'm rolling my eyes so hard right now.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 26:11Speaker 1: We are back in present day, out of this memory,
- 26:14Speaker 1: and Missy walks up to meet Gus at the ranch
- 26:18Speaker 1: and he tells her how great she is and how
- 26:21Speaker 1: she was awesome on the radio show, and he asks
- 26:24Speaker 1: her to go to coffee, but she declines. He says
- 26:27Speaker 1: he's still interested in the ranch, but I.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Can't wait forever for the ranch. There's lots of ranches around.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Oh, He's like, yeah, he gives her an ultimatum, Ah,
- 26:37Speaker 1: there's another ranch for me somewhere out there if you
- 26:40Speaker 1: don't go have coffee with me. He doesn't give her
- 26:43Speaker 1: that ultimatum.
- 26:43Speaker 2: But yeah, that's not what I think he's saying. I
- 26:45Speaker 2: think he's using ranch in lieu of lady. Oh okay,
- 26:51Speaker 2: Like I think both are at stake here. But he's like,
- 26:54Speaker 2: there's lots of ranches around.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Quote unquote ranches. Yeah, there's a bunch of lighties around. Okay,
- 27:03Speaker 1: that's don't gross him out for me. I kind of like, Gus,
- 27:07Speaker 1: I don't want to think that.
- 27:09Speaker 2: He's I think he's just saying, like, I get it
- 27:11Speaker 2: that you're not ready, but I'm not going to wait forever.
- 27:14Speaker 2: I'm not going to pine for you.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I'm a hot camaditie myself, lady, and he is.
- 27:21Speaker 2: He's hot and loaded and brings pie and wine. We're
- 27:27Speaker 2: back at the bar. Tough and Julian are still chatting,
- 27:29Speaker 2: and Toughsi's val walk in and he gets up to
- 27:31Speaker 2: a greader, but incomes sleazy pond shop guy Tucker Clark,
- 27:34Speaker 2: and Tough sees Valeria and Tucker having a conversation, but
- 27:40Speaker 2: Tough it's clearly having an internal conflict because Valeria had
- 27:43Speaker 2: said she did not actually know him.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Okay, is there There's got to be one bar in
- 27:49Speaker 1: this town, and Valeria is not. She just walks in
- 27:53Speaker 1: like with this sketch dude, thinking no one's going to
- 27:56Speaker 1: see her, Yes, hanging out with this guy that she's
- 28:00Speaker 1: she has she doesn't know. And then on top of it,
- 28:03Speaker 1: the bar's not that big. I'm like, was tough wearing
- 28:06Speaker 1: cats invisibility cloak here because he's right out of you know, eyesight,
- 28:12Speaker 1: staring at them playpool. Valeria doesn't see him.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Excellent points.
- 28:17Speaker 1: And that's the end of the episode and scene. Do
- 28:20Speaker 1: you see why here? This is not bingeable? Like there's
- 28:23Speaker 1: no I mean, there's a little cliffhanger here because we
- 28:27Speaker 1: want to know more about like val and this sketchy
- 28:30Speaker 1: neck tattoo guy, but not enough to watch another episode.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Back to bag, Why are you laughing?
- 28:37Speaker 2: Because I think I like this show more than you do.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I think you might be right about that.
- 28:44Speaker 2: I would say I would not say it's not bingeable.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I feel like a binge able show takes one story
- 28:50Speaker 2: and stretches it over ten episodes, whereas an episodic drop
- 28:55Speaker 2: takes ten individual smaller story, right, So I feel like
- 29:00Speaker 2: in a bingeable show you get less information in each
- 29:04Speaker 2: episode sometimes. Yeah, but again, I think it comes down
- 29:07Speaker 2: to the level of enjoyment you have for a show.
- 29:09Speaker 1: How okay, So let me let me let me explain.
- 29:13Speaker 1: The first episode I liked. I thought there were a
- 29:16Speaker 1: lot of problems, but I was gonna be because that
- 29:18Speaker 1: was a pilot. Pilots are always different. Second episode, this
- 29:22Speaker 1: show still does not have me yet, like, so I
- 29:25Speaker 1: will give it a third and I'm going to give
- 29:29Speaker 1: it a ten because We're gonna watch all of them
- 29:31Speaker 1: for this podcast.
- 29:32Speaker 2: But I don't think he's we're coming back for Ride
- 29:35Speaker 2: season two.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I don't have to like every episode or the show.
- 29:39Speaker 2: I didn't say you had to. I'm not suggesting anybody
- 29:43Speaker 2: has to enjoy anything.
- 29:45Speaker 1: And I have to admit I having a really hard time.
- 29:47Speaker 1: I cannot help but compare The Way Home to this
- 29:51Speaker 1: show and how it made me feel, and how I
- 29:54Speaker 1: liked one more than the other.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Yeah, because these are your first homemark series that you've watched,
- 30:00Speaker 2: and a handful of episodes of Chesapeake Short correct. Yeah, Yeah,
- 30:03Speaker 2: I think the Way Home was special.
- 30:05Speaker 1: I think so too talk about special We laughed about
- 30:09Speaker 1: who are you writing for? Who are we writing for?
- 30:11Speaker 2: This week? Oh?
- 30:13Speaker 1: Last week's choice was super easy, I think, but who
- 30:16Speaker 1: do you who is it? This week?
- 30:17Speaker 2: I'm torn between two people. I'm gonna go Isabelle. Why
- 30:23Speaker 2: because and I was torn between Isabelle and Missy. But
- 30:26Speaker 2: I'll explain my reasons for Isabelle. I think she's fighting
- 30:30Speaker 2: against what the family wants for what she knows might
- 30:34Speaker 2: be best for the ranch. And she's making decisions that
- 30:37Speaker 2: she knows might upset people, naming co formans, bringing on
- 30:41Speaker 2: an investor. She's pushing back against some of what Cash
- 30:45Speaker 2: wants as a bull rider, but she's trying to do
- 30:47Speaker 2: it all in what's best for the ranch and what's
- 30:50Speaker 2: best for the family, and those are hard decisions to make.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I am gonna have to agree with that. Nice I
- 30:55Speaker 1: agree with that. Can I also point out our unnamed
- 30:58Speaker 1: ranch hand from last episode not in this episode at all?
- 31:02Speaker 2: Nope, And.
- 31:05Speaker 1: It kind of bugs me because it's not a very
- 31:08Speaker 1: diverse cast. No, it is not, with the exception of Julian.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Yeah, who's Greek? I mean, diversity is welcome, we do.
- 31:20Speaker 2: I think they're like, well, we have a gay cowboy,
- 31:23Speaker 2: and we're gonna play it safe.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Yeah that.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Multiple things can be true homewark, Yeah.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So let's just see how this plays out. Yeah.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Well, we will be back next week with a recap
- 31:42Speaker 2: of Ride episode three, but also Wendy's getting a break
- 31:48Speaker 2: that she perhaps needs, so come back and see how
- 31:49Speaker 2: that's gonna work. Of course, yesterday we dropped our review
