[upbeat music] With the sounds of the streets outside the shop.
0:19
Such a gentle purr. [mimics engine] It's Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 65. Beep, beep. Hey, retirement age. This is it. This is it. [laughs] Last show. Ah, no, we're- Well, Mark on through retirement.
0:33
Well- They haven't- Yeah... you know, talked yet. I don't have enough money to quit. Exactly, and they haven't- So... they haven't had the, the talk yet, so. [laughs] Right on. It's, uh, Sven. Got JK- Oh, ho, ho...
0:45
perusing his telephone. I'm looking at the document. Tony Burger. Hey there. Saddling up to the table. Sounds like my phone. Mr. Chris Zito. Howdy ho. Your mic's not on yet. Stick your thing on. Put your thing on there.
1:00
[laughs] Stick your thing on your head. Wrap that thing. Wrap- I just had- Put that- I got a headset. I was like, "Oh, they didn't give me a mic." Yeah, yeah. [laughs] No, you just have to yell. [laughs] Yep.
1:09
Chris, Chris is sitting in today. Hi. There he is. All right. There he is. You're not low. Oh, dude, you guys are getting high tech. Uh, he's here now, folks.
1:19
I wasn't sure who was here, 'cause everyone has masks on, so I couldn't tell who everybody was- Yeah... at first. Camouflage. Camelflage. Camel toe camouflage. Camelflage. You know what camouflage is used for, right?
1:32
Negatory. Camelflage. Don't. You know- Do tell... for covering up those reefer addicts. You can smoke a one-hitter or you smoke a Camel, and it's camelflage. Nice. Oh. See, folks, you learned something here already.
1:46
[clicks tongue] In the morning, I call it tabaxative. [laughs] I know I'm- What?... really with the, uh, sympathy ciggy. What a heck of a nice week for riding bikes here around Milwaukee. Oh, I rode to Waukesha today.
1:58
No kidding. Yep. I just, we'd left, was at the office at the Coop Ridge. I was like, "I'm gonna put some miles on." There was an east wind. My girlfriend works out there, so I just headed out.
2:08
I had never ridden past Moreland Road before. Oh, on the Hank? Yeah. Well, you take the Hank out to, like, you cut across, like, 121st or something- Yeah...
2:17
and then to, uh, through the golf course, Greenfield Golf Course, and then- Oh, yeah... you hit the, the New Berlin Interurban Trail that goes all the way out to Waukesha. Super straightaway. Yeah.
2:27
At least for the part I've ridden on it. That- Cool... eventually turns into the ride all the way to Madison Trail. What the hell's the name of that again? I don't know. Glacial Drumlin. The Glacial Drumlin. Yeah. Yeah.
2:38
Yeah, yeah. Go right by Gomez's pad. Oh, really? Is he right there? And, and Castle Grayskull on the way by. And- Gnome skull... is it Phil Van Vulkenburgh right there, too?
2:46
You know, Phil's in, like, Sun Prairie or something, I think. All right. Yeah. Right around. Sort of on the way, but- Castle-... not exactly... Castle Gnome Skull- Gnome Skull... by the way. The, uh- [laughs]...
2:55
alcohol fuel processing plant there and Gomez's pad here. Oh, that's right. That's right, the ethanol plant. Ah. Oo. Yeah, some bike riding, hey. Oo. Good ride on Sunday. I rode my bike a little bit. Good ride on Sunday.
3:07
That was a fun ride on Sunday. [laughs] Was it fun on Sunday? Are we ever gonna check up on Jerry? Yes, I- Is he all right? Tim did Yeah. All right. He took a hit. That was a, that was a, that was like
3:17
almost slow mos- motion, instantaneous down. Yeah. Ka- Well, he- I missed it. I wanted you guys to do it again, but I don't think he wanted to go into the puddle again. [laughs] Right. Oh, yeah.
3:25
I can, I can heartily- I heard it... I can heartily endorse, uh, Hurley's rash guard shirts, because that's... I was wearing it on... It, like, didn't even go through the shirt and- Oh, nice. Yeah...
3:34
I just slide down my elbow. I'm like, "Yeah, nice." Nice. Yeah, I had- A little scrape on the knee. Jerry got a little bruised on the ribs, but he- And he got a little wet and muddy. I hope- Yeah, well...
3:42
he had nothing in his pockets. I'm trying to figure out what he was doing. I think he was trying to go between the puddles- He was... which I was trying to go through. Right. It's like, puddles are to go through, folks.
3:50
They're not to go around. Yeah, that's what we ride bikes like that for. Right. Yeah, so. And then I, I noticed that after the fact, I was like, "Well, at least he took Greg down with you." You know? Ah.
3:59
[laughs] S- sometimes those are sort- I started a one, one person hot dog... yeah, it was like a broadside hit.
4:04
I'm like, almost, I almost had it and then, no, he kinda got caught up in my handlebar or something, and I'm like, "Ah." I know. I, my first impulse was, "Oh. [laughs] " Oh, yeah, no, there was some sliding.
4:16
[laughs] I laughed. There was some sliding going on. I, I laughed immediately, but then I was like, "Ooh." Yeah. I tend to- I've taken, I've taken spills... Jerry was a little bit older than us, isn't he? Eh.
4:24
Yeah, a little bit. A couple years. Little bit. Few, couple years. Yeah. So I was like, "Dude, you all right? Hold, you know, stand still. Hold on. I, I'll wipe the mud off of you. You just stand still for a bit."
4:31
Uh, yeah. He, he bounced well. You did, you did a good job of triage to make sure there weren't- Yeah... any cracked ribs or anything. I will give you, uh, this, though, on that crash.
4:39
I, I now can ride that bike a lot more, 'cause it's all scraped up and I can't sell it for new right now, so- Yeah... I'll just keep that. Scratch and dent. I always wanted a 29 plus again after- Lucky...
4:49
I sold the last one, so. The lights are changing. Oh, boy. Yeah, we're doing a little load test on a battery here. Yeah, yeah. Check out the software from Grin. Yeah, yeah.
4:59
Since I, uh- That's what we do at the e-bike shop here. Since I, uh, rode- We're an electric bike service station. Since I rode this weekend on my e-bike- E-bikes are the future, man. Beep, boop, beep.
5:07
Dude, I kept up with everyone this weekend. Yeah. Well, the bike's never that. [laughs] I was thinking we ought to maybe electrify- If you ever bring an e-bike on a ride I host again- [laughs]... we will be derbies.
5:18
[laughs] I'll derby on that, no problem. Just run away. Run away. [laughs] You, if there's only two of you left, you must, someone must make an effort to... You can't dodge the other guy. Mm-hmm. Yeah, no.
5:31
That's- You have to commit... no track standing either. Right. Exactly. I think- No grant standing... I'd like a track stand, too, though.
5:37
It, th- when you are not engaging the motor on that, because I don't have- Right... any pedal assist- Yeah... it is a total free wheel, and it's smooth as silk. It's like- Yeah... this is weird.
5:47
Um- That's your, uh, Bafang G311. It's, yeah. That is a great little hub. It's dead si- even accelerating, it's dead silent, compared to, say, Joshua's triple speed thingy. Which has a lot of rattle when you accelerate.
6:02
Yeah. That, this is a smooth fucking bike. It's also brand new. So is his. Yeah. He's got 400 miles on it. I suppose. I'll have 400 miles on mine in, like, two weeks.
6:12
So, was, uh, is the Sunday ride we did a secret or do you wanna- Uh, no, we can talk about it. We were just kind of checking out the statues for, um,
6:20
this Sunday we're gonna launch Milwaukee By Bike, a bicycle tour and rental company, and, uh, we're gonna have a little get together with a bunch of people. Everyone's welcome to come down. It's family friendly.
6:31
We're gonna have a little four-hour kinda scavenger hunt, messenger search Milwaukee tour type- Mm-hmm... self-tour type thing.
6:39
You can come go, ride by yourself, you can ride with a small group, you can ride with a big group, whatever everyone's comfortable for. Is it the, is it, what, the 28th or is it actually- Sunday the 28th.
6:49
The 28th, so next- Sunday the 28th- Two week from Father's Day... noon to 4:00. A week from Sunday. A week from Father's Day, yes. Gotcha. There you go.
6:54
This would've been, this coming, would the coming S- uh, Saturday have been Fat Tire Tour? Yes. Yes, it would. Would've been. You can still virtually do it if you wanna- Right... do the virtual- Yeah, 'cause-...
7:04
Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee. And- The, the past Saturday was- I think I saw a couple people doing it last week... Locust Street days. Yeah, that- Yeah... that Saturday we were riding. Yep, there were a few.
7:11
There were a few. Yep. Oh, it was the Sunday we were riding. And there were people doing it on Saturday. Saturday. I know on Sunday. I don't know about Sunday. Well, I saw a couple dudes as I was coming- Oh...
7:17
to meet you guys.
7:19
They were coming down Terrace and one, they both had the same shirts on and one guy was wearing a tutu, so I assumed [laughs] that they were- That was guys doing that group ride Sounds like a Franzen episode.
7:28
Yeah, it does. Yeah, it does. [laughs] So tell us- For real... tell us about Milwaukee By Bike, Chris. Well, yeah. The, the, this is something- It's gonna be a thing...
7:34
you've been working on for quite a while and got a little bit of a, uh- Yeah...
7:37
like a little- Ever since my return to the States and, uh, even when I lived in Minneapolis, I always wanted to do tours up there when I was working at One on One and hanging out there. And, uh,
7:48
got back to Milwaukee and been here for a little while and, you know, kicked it around with you, kicked it around with a few people, and finally kicked it around with the right guy who said, "Okay, let's do it."
7:58
And, uh- The guy with the money. Well, no, we took out some loans. Nice. We took out a loan and bought, uh, hooked up with Fixation. We got a bunch of Fixation Eastside, just single speed, 700...
8:09
Uh, what did I call them in our, our description? Uh, Euro townie bikes. [laughs] They're just easy. Easy to ride. They're not f- they're not fast, they're not heavy, they're just easy. Yeah. Yeah.
8:21
They're just easy to ride and we'll keep everybody at the same pace, nice slow, easy, casual paces. Um, do some tours. We have a couple tours. We did, we, you were part of one where we- We did a-... where-...
8:32
we did a pre-ride of one of the tours... yeah, and just to feel it out and get the timing down and how...
8:37
And that one, that one's gonna have to change too 'cause we went when the lakefront wasn't real busy, and when the lakefront's real busy and you got 10 people on bikes trying to stay together- Yeah, that, that's tough...
8:46
at least in a single file- That's tough... it gets tough, so- Oh, yeah... we, uh, w- we'll change them up. You know, it, it depends on what people wanna see.
8:53
We have one where we plan to go to the different breweries, Lakefront Brewery, Schlitz, a park, uh, Pabst Brewery, you know, just so people can see the old architecture- It's a big ride... and structure.
9:03
But it's, it's like, do... What, what can people do? What, what do you guys wanna see? Right. You know, do you guys wanna go see the art museum?
9:10
Some people could give a rat's ass, would rather go see, you know, uh, something else. A church. All the, all the churches, yeah. Yeah, exactly. [laughs] I, I had one of those in city.
9:19
Lady wanted to see all the churches, and I was like, "All right, we'll do that." There's like 4,800 of them. A month, a month and a half later- [laughs]... she returns. Well, there's not a lot of churches in Australia.
9:28
Oh, I thought you were talking about here. [laughs] No, no. Oh, here, God, we could go to a, a kajillion. That's a decade-long ride. Yeah. [laughs] Just in Milwaukee. Exactly. But yeah, so that's what we're gonna do.
9:38
Hopefully we're gonna morph into, um, a little more like a repair shop somewhere.
9:43
We're looking at some space along the bike path, and, uh, then get into teaching safe urban cycling, rerouting yourself, alternative routes, how to get to work, what, what, what kind of bike you need for what, what you want, you know, kind of like a coaching- A consulting...
10:00
a consulting, coaching- It's good... and work with the different shops. People say, "Oh, what shops did I go to?" And I'm like, "Well..." They're like, "What shop do you go to?" And I was like, "Ah, no."
10:09
[laughs] No, no, 'cause shops, uh, shops are like bike saddles, right? Mm-hmm. There's a different one for every ass.
10:15
[laughs] And someone can walk in here and go, "God, that guy was a total douche bag," and someone else could come in here and go- Probably us sometimes... "God, I love those guys at Everyday Cycles," you know?
10:23
Every shop has that. They might spend- Rainbow jersey head... 9, $10,000 on a titanium fat bike. Who knows? Right, right. But- Yeah, then they go, "Well, that guy was a jackass, but- Yeah... got a nice bike though."
10:33
Got a great bike. [laughs] Hopefully we'll get into, uh, some of the bigger companies, Northwestern Mutual and Baird and s- There you go... all those people that have- Man, yeah, yeah...
10:42
you know, 300, 400 people coming in from the suburbs every day and, you know, it's...
10:47
And people are intimidated by it, and people want protected bike lanes and stuff, but it's, you really just don't ride where there's cars. Ride alternative routes.
10:56
It might take you a half hour longer, but it's a lot more enjoyable. Yeah, absolutely. Riding down the alley- See more things... cutting through the park. Yeah. Take three lefts to make a right. Like on the way here.
11:04
Yep. Just like UPS. Instead of coming down, right, straight down Humboldt- Totally... from my neighborhood 'cause I wanted to avoid the hill- [laughs] Yeah...
11:10
on the fat bike coming up, I just took, rode the ridge across Holton and stayed up on top. Yeah, absolutely. That's the way to go.
11:16
I almost went down your route and went east around, uh, the bike path to Locust and then across Locust. Oh, it drops in, yeah. Sounds like it.
11:25
Yeah, you know, everybody's town if, if, if you ride your town regularly, you figure out how to make the most of the topography, I think. Exactly. Yeah. Exactly. You sure do. Sure do.
11:34
Well, that was a messengers thing too. The, like, the messengers at San Francisco, you think they ride those hills straight up and down? [laughs] Hell no. Hell no. Not unless they're holding onto the side of a trolley.
11:42
Zip, zip. E- exactly. Yeah. But i- e- everywhere. [laughs] I, I try to do it here. What's the flattest route? The, you know- Yeah... the least incline? If I'm not in a hurry or if I'm on my fat bike- Well, you know-...
11:50
with a lollygagger bike, it's like- With the whole COVID thing too, there's no reason to ride a trail. Streets are way easier to ride right now. Yeah. Well, they're getting busy again. Yeah, they are.
11:58
They are getting busy. It's starting to pick up. There was a lot of path leads on that, that, uh, New Berlin trail today. Ugh.
12:03
Now, you mentioned riding safe before and I was thinking, well, that meant one thing, you know, six months ago.
12:08
Now it mi- means another thing too with, uh- With the COVID thing, what is the, what is the company doing to get rolling in the, in the time of, you know, COVID-19?
12:18
'Cause you're, you're just getting this thing rolling and, uh- Yeah, we just launched.
12:21
Well, we were gonna launch in, uh, March, April, we were looking to March, or we were looking to launch, and, uh, the COVID set us back a little bit. Tourism, we're waiting for some tourism.
12:31
But we can still show people in Milwaukee a- a- around the city that live here that have nev- places they've never been.
12:40
I mean, how many people on our ride the other day were on that route we did that was a little illegal? [laughs] Yeah. It was totally fun and totally easy and safe. Yep.
12:49
We were at no danger and posed no danger to anybody- Right... but we weren't supposed to be there. Yeah, I didn't see a sign. Yeah, no, the guy working there didn't say anything. Exactly. Yeah. That was a good thing.
12:58
All was well. So- So w- Do you remember that right before that, right before f- right after the crash where we rode the other day? Oh, yeah. Through that tunnel. That was so cool. Yeah. Yeah. That, that was really...
13:08
That- I'm just gonna keep looking the other direction [laughs] Yeah. And that was one of the coolest, like, of all the places I've ridden in Milwaukee, that was high up on the coolest place to ride.
13:16
So d- That little back entrance and- Yeah... through there was just like... [laughs] Does, does Milwaukee By Bike currently have any restrictions related to COVID? No. No. We're gonna, you know- Follow best practices...
13:30
clean the bikes, clean the bikes after- Yeah. Right... everything. Wipe them down. Yep. Um, w- it's, we're gonna try and keep our distance. Well, we're not very big right now. Right.
13:39
If we get big enough, maybe we'll have to start asking people to wear masks. It's, or s- riding further apart. I was just noticing, 'cause, uh, my son's on the NICU.
13:47
Uh, Whitefish Bay now has its own mountain bike team- Wow... which is in part of the North Shore composite anymore. But they're not having a race season,
13:56
and instead they're doing a thing called Adventure where they're still gonna go to the race venues but not packed with 5,000 people. Right.
14:03
Um, and their practice is they gotta wear buffs or masks, uh, when they're interacting in a close area, and otherwise they don't have to wear them on the trail. What's a buff? Yeah. A, a buff is like this. A gator.
14:15
A gator. A gator. Okay. Oh. All right. The 45 NRTH thing that we all have or- All right. Like a toque... instead of... Yeah, you just pull it up kinda deal. Yeah. Instead of an actual mask that- Sounds legit. Buff.
14:24
I like- Like Mike has on right now... I like the word buff. Right? And also- Well, yeah, that's all, that's all, that's all Survivor- I'm getting buff. I'm getting buff... influence trademarked. I'm okay to buff.
14:32
It's not a bad name. Yada, yada, yada. Not a bad word. Muff. Boof. Not either. Muff is good too. Muff buff. Uh-oh. Oh, geez. Hammer's calling. I'm not here. I'm not here. While I answer the phone- Hammer's going-...
14:40
why don't you guys, uh, talk about the website and how to get ahold of Milwaukee By Bike and that stuff, and then, uh, I'll see what's up here. Y- you got it. We are at milwaukeebybike.com.
14:51
Milwaukee By, B-Y, milwaukeebybike.com. Check out our website. How, how long are your tours? I mean, what, like- The tours are roughly about n- 120 minutes. 100 and, 100 and- Hour and a half... 15, 120 minutes. Yeah.
15:07
Wait, 60, 120. Yeah, no, about just a little shy of two hours. Two hours. Oh, that's cool. You know, because you- But you could do it- You got, that's stuff you can't time. You can't time traffic. Yeah.
15:13
You can't time- Right, right, right... uh, the, the, you know, the three- Or you could liberally say a three-hour tour, a three-hour t- No, I, I don't think we'll be a three-hour tour.
15:21
Well, then y- Maybe we're gonna do some fun stuff on the weekends once it's, it's a little more open up to people and things- Right, right...
15:27
are open up again where we, uh, on Saturdays we're gonna do a, uh, like a microbrewery tour.
15:34
W- and every week we'll change up, and we'll just go to three or four microbreweries around the area for out-of-towners who wanna try it out. Good. Anyone, really. Anyone's welcome to join. Mm-hmm.
15:44
And, uh, then on Sundays we're gonna do, like, an underbelly pub crawl, like different little dive bars in Milwaukee and change that up every week. Also cool. Yeah. Right. And, uh, little neighborhood bars.
15:54
Little learn the hood type. Places that people have never been. Yeah. Yeah, but w- you know, anywhere from B- we can go anywhere from Bay View to, because of where we're located down on South Water Street- Yeah...
16:03
by the Cooperage, we're, we're right, we got Bay View right there. We got the east side right there, downtown, the west side. Mm-hmm. Yep, yep. It's in pretty accessible. Yeah, it sounds great.
16:13
The good pivot- Can rent a kayak down there? You can rent the... Well, we're gonna put something together where you do the trifecta. Mm-hmm. Where you do, like, the bikes. You, you do one of our tours.
16:22
You kayak, and then there's also the Duffy boats, the pedal taverns- See you... and the paddle taverns who are all, like, these, these companies all have, like- That, that's the Milwaukee triathlete, man. Yeah.
16:32
[laughs] Yeah, exactly. That's the Milwaukee triathlete right there. But what we're gonna do, work with those guys, and if you do one of their tours, you can rent a bike for, or, or do a tour at a discount rate.
16:42
Or if you do one of our tours, you can do one of their tours for a discount rate. Yeah, there's kinda tentacles going around.
16:47
Yeah, there's a lot of different fingers there, and a, a few people have their fingers in a few thing, you know, every... I only got my fingers in one thing- [laughs]... right now. Speaking of one thing. [gasps] Oh.
16:59
Top of the hill. [bell ringing] It's the top of the hill, folks. And I'm empty. [laughs] Oh, well, good call. Oh. Look at that. Go get- Yes, please... go fill that hill to the top.
17:07
Since JK brought the beer, he can go get the beer. Why not be a full service delivery service? Right? I'll start. I'll, I'll- Uh, JK, you forgot my empty. I'm good.
17:16
I'll s- I'll tell, I'll tell people what it is and JK can say, you know, what it's all about. It's, it's the Snaggletooth Bandana. Oh. Uh, from Solomon Oath Brewery. Solemn Oath. Solomon.
17:29
I was just thinking Salomon Juno. No, that's solemn. It's Solemn Oath Brewery. [laughs] It's Solemn Oath Brewery, but Salomon Juno Brewery. No. Yeah, we were at that statue the other day. I know.
17:36
That's kinda what made me think of it. Oh, that's funny. That's funny. So, uh- Where are they from? There's anarchists down here. Naperville. Naperville. Naperville. They're a bunch of rich Illinois kids.
17:44
And that's why they're all wearing 1980s punk wear. Yeah, it totally looks like it. 'Cause now they're not punks anymore. Punk's not dead. Now they, you know, own a brewery.
17:52
They moved from the south side of Chicago to Naperville. Yeah. Yeah. And own a brewery. So they, um, call this an American India pale ale. Uh, but there was some fruitiness to it. Eh, it's all right.
18:06
Did it- I can't remember if they said it was- It's a l- it's, it's, it's stronger than it looks. Massive grapefruit, pineapple, and super ripe mango. No apricot? Damn it. Aromatics burst out of this medium bodied IPA.
18:18
Hey, while you were getting your beer, did you notice your, uh, rhubarb in the fridge? No, sweet. I saw that. I was gonna give it to Mike Lodowski to make a pie. There's a whole bag of rhubarb for Mike. That's sweet.
18:27
I was the... I was looking for- Yeah, I- I was looking for that rhubarb IPA. Oh. I don't know where the hell I saw it. It's gone. Yeah. Well dude, just go grab some now. We'll just- This, this is, um-...
18:36
like a, like a swizzle stick with it... I mean, it's, it's got a little bit of- Come on... I, I don't think it's as- Do it. I don't- Everybody's doing it...
18:42
I, I smell a little bit, but I really don't taste a lot of fruitiness. Yeah. No, it, it is not the fruitiness that I expect from- It's hoppy. Very hoppy... it's very hoppy. And it does have some, uh...
18:49
It's 81 IBUs, so it's got a little- It's got a kick to it... got a little bitterness to it, balanced by a subtle malt sweetness and more citrusy fun.
18:56
You know, I haven't tried it yet, but if you burp inside one of these masks- I don't wanna do that... do people hear it? I've been afraid to do it- Of course they hear it... 'cause I didn't wanna pass out.
19:05
[laughs] Of course they hear it. But I w- will that be heard? It'll be- Heard but not seen. Like, I had a, a, a- That's like what we have... I had a big, my first error of business ownership.
19:16
I bought a bunch of bells from Vulture Space. He s- he sold us, gave us a great price on 25 bells. And the other day we took one- You got a fart to cover up your thought...
19:26
took the little, you know, we got the ring ring, typical old school bells, and we took the little screw cap off and we took some spray paint and spray painted it.
19:33
It was the guy, the construction guy by our office had some gray spray paint, and we hit it, let it dry, put it back on, ring ring, golden. So I went and got two cans of Rust-Oleum. Uh-oh.
19:45
Orange, 'cause we have orange helmets- No, no... orange paddles. No ding a ling. So it's a black and orange thing. And- Kind of like a jack-o-lantern... well, it didn't cover as well as the other stuff.
19:53
And I, that it was some kind of rust paint too. It was not Rust-Oleum, but I used two cans and I fucked up the bells. It's like- Oh... ring, ring, ring. It's like, it's like a, a muted ring.
20:03
It's like plastic-coated bells. So yeah, there's 100- Sandblast those motherfuckers... 110 bucks down the tubes. Just sandblast the shit out of them. Well, we'll f- I'll figure it out. Little mini- Yeah...
20:12
mini sandblaster Just throw them in some acid. That'll work too. It'll just burn the right off of there. I mean, Andy has, Andy at Moto Scoot has a sandblaster I could use. Yeah. Or ultrasonic cleaner.
20:22
I don't know about that. Dry ice. Once it's cured, I'm not sure how that'll work. All right, one more. One more for Tony. It's been a long day. Gotta cut that, cut that so the ducks don't, uh, get their necks in there.
20:33
The dolphins and the turtles. I threw some- Oh, my... I was landscaping at Joe's house up in Fox Point the other day, moved some perennials aside, and I went to throw wood chips in there right on a little duck nest.
20:45
Oh, no. About four or five eggs in there, and I was like, "Ah, what do I do?" You know, 'cause you know, people say don't touch birds, eggs and, uh... So I just left the wood chips- The mother will never come back...
20:54
I left the wood chips on there. And then about 10 minutes later, I was at the wood chip pile, and here comes mama duck around the wood chip pile and scoots in under the, the plants. And I was like, all right.
21:03
She's like out of our control. So I'm waiting to see some little ducklings come out in the next couple days. Now, be clear, without a doubt she's gonna kill you in your sleep. What is the gestation period?
21:09
Did I ask you that? The gestas- gestation period of duck eggs? I don't know. They're so delicious at that age. That question is serious. I know. I was gonna sell them. Like, take them out of the, uh, duck eggs.
21:19
So I, I learned an interesting fact- Bartering over at the farmers... about a bird, not ducks though. About a bird? Cuckoo birds. Yeah. Cuckoos. They are some kind of, I don't...
21:26
They don't call them parasitic, but what they do is lay their eggs and then they split and they let other birds- Yeah, yeah... they lay them in other birds' nests- That's it... so the other birds raise their kids.
21:34
Yeah, absolutely. Wow. That's- Absentee parenting... dead right. Yeah. I had no idea. Yeah, they, they- Wow... I, I did know there are other birds that do that too. Yeah, like burgers. Burgers. I don't do that.
21:46
I have my own children, goddammit. [laughs] No, no, didn't you just take over... Didn't you... I, I'm proud of that. I'm really, I really, that, that you guys adopted a child.
21:54
I, you know, that it's the- That's awesome... weirdest experience. It's like everyone says this. It's just like it was a family member. It needed a home, and- Right... I, you know- But that's-... kept the Kilton...
22:03
that's big takeaway... and he's the coolest little fucking kid in the world. Wonder boy. Yeah. It's him. He is just the s- What is the secret to your power?... secret to his power. His name is Daniel- Wonder boy...
22:14
so I'm calling him Tenacious D. So now I live around the corner from Wonderland, which I often as I walk by, burst out with wonder boy. Yes. Which hasn't been open for three months. Yeah, I don't know.
22:27
He must've got a loan kickback or something. We had to throw a bunch of money into something and then it just- I think they- I don't think that's the issue at all...
22:32
I think they're doing, I think they're doing some curbside. I think I saw- No. No, it's completely closed. I thought I saw, I thought I saw a sign up there.
22:37
Both Art Bar and, uh, and two, Art Bar two, actually I saw three of them, two Art Bar and Wonderland have been Loctite. Huh. Really fucked.
22:46
Well, the places that had actual people that were employees are, a lot of them are helping their employees out by not bringing them back too soon. Right. Exactly. All right. It, that's, that's...
22:56
I'm, uh, I- Dude, don't even get me started on that... I'm gonna throw this out here though because I talked about this about two weeks ago, 'cause it is June, and the pizza of the month at Transfer is elote. Oh.
23:10
I'll be having that tomorrow night. Ah. Elote. Elote pizza. What is elote? That's the Mexican corn where they put- Mexican street corn... the mayo and the- Oh... little, uh, drizzle of sauce and the Ch- Right...
23:22
and the Chihuahua cheese and- Like, like the corn cup... a street corn... like the corn. Yeah. It's corn cob street corn. No, the corn cup at- Corn cup at, uh- What is it?... Taco Moto. Oh, yeah. Moto, Taco Moto. Yeah.
23:33
Yeah, but on a pizza. Yeah. Oh. And- That sounds good. Taco Moto's down there by the, uh, Coopers as well. Coopers. Yeah, that's right by us. Yep, yep, yep. That's the old Josie Tacos. Corn in the cup would be esquites.
23:43
Oh, right. Elote would be- Yeah... on the cob. Oh. Well, thank you. Yeah, that's what I'm here for. To entertain and educate. Yeah, that's another thing, what we'll be doing is offering- [laughs]...
23:52
Spanish-speaking tours. We are fortunate enough- Awesome... to be graced to have, uh, Liz Franzak working with us. Right on. And, uh, Liz, as, I don't know if you guys know, but- Is she bringing that cute doggy?
24:02
She's, I think, has her master's degree in Spanish- Is she bringing-... or Spanish literature... it, it- Teaches Spanish at MATC... is she bringing that cute doggy? Uh, no, that dog's... Dude.
24:11
[laughs] I don't, I was the hairless dog. Speaking of ducklings- Because-... remember we were talking about ducklings before? Yeah. That's an ugly duckling dog. Oh, dude. Yeah, yeah.
24:18
But remember, re- remember our story about- She's, she's so ugly though, she's adorable... how many licks with a fat bike would it take? [laughs] She's so ugly, she's adorable. Yeah, yeah. You have to realize that.
24:25
I mean, it's a cute dog, and she's nice. I, she hangs out at Vulture Space. I know. And it's also Mexican And Harris Right. Is it Mexican? Yeah, Mexican. Yeah, it's a Mexican dog, yeah. It actually is from Mexico.
24:34
Three different sizes. They're, they're... They were the Aztec dogs' gate- like gateway to the hell- hell dogs. All right. 'Cause they're so ugly. Well, that's 'cause once you looked at them, you croaked after. Yeah.
24:45
I... Jesus Christ. Although they're not, it's not very big. They're so cute. They do make a... There's a big one. All right. There's like a, like a 60 pound model. Like a master size? Right, all right. Yeah.
24:54
Yeah, you can... They make, they make one- There's a, there's a pint size- I suppose-... then her, and then 16... like the old G.I. Joes, like full-size guys, middle sizes. I had a whole fuck ton of those.
25:01
I'm so pissed my mom gave them away. Kung Fu Grip. Full-size guys. I had Kung Fu Grip and Eagle Eye. Dude, that's what I'm rocking right now, the Kung Fu Grip look. Remember G.I. Joe with the Kung Fu Grip? Yep.
25:09
You had the same hair and beard. We had the same hair. You, you had it. [laughs] It was like the same hair and beard. All right, picture Zito for this, for the, uh, bio guys. Yo Joe. That is yo Joe.
25:16
Zito got a haircut this week. Give me- Get that in there... and also give me a Kung Fu Grip. Wait. No, lower. Yeah, little lower. Yeah. Right, closer, closer. Like, a little closer.
25:27
[laughs] I'm not shooting a fucking- Just, just like Eddie Murphy says in, in Trading Places... I'm not shooting a video. [laughs] What's that? Eddie Murphy talks about G.I.
25:35
Joe with the Kung Fu Grip in Trading Places- Yeah... 'cause everybody needs that for a Christmas present. That's why they're all gonna sell off all their stocks right before Christmas, so- But ladies-...
25:43
it's not gonna-... not gonna give me any love unless I get my boy- The Kung Fu Grip... the old Kung Fu Grip. [laughs] Eagle Eyes. Motherfucking Kung Fu, Kung, Kung Fu Grip. Kung Pow Grip. Kung Pow. Mm. Cool.
25:56
And by the way, Lucky Lou's- Hey... even if you ask for zero spice- Hot... it's still spicy. I know, it's fantastic. [laughs] I love those guys. Is this the place right here- I love those guys... on Holden? Yeah.
26:06
N- yeah. Well, it's Van Buren. Or Van Buren? Van Buren. Yeah. On Van Buren. Right around the corner from your place. Dude- I know... their food's excellent. I just- It's good.
26:11
I just looked at it for the first time today. It's just on the hot. Outstanding. It's on the hot. It's on, it's on the spicy side. You wanna know what else is excellent? This beer? New windows at the annex over there.
26:19
What is new? Is it Thai? New windows. It's, uh, Chinese and Japanese. At the... Oh, you got your windows in. I got my windows in at the, at the- Oh... at the warehouse. What'd you get?
26:26
Like, oh, like new double pane windows or? They're new, nice windows. I mean- They're big windows, right? Can you open them? Yeah, you can see out of them, too. They, they lowered them, and you can...
26:34
Which that, that's- Sweet... I'm now calling that the annex, and it may be- So how long before they kick you out and turn that place into condos? It may actually become a service center.
26:41
[laughs] Speaking of condos, I just w- drove by, or rode by, um, uh, what do you call it? Uh, the old post. It says something about condos on there. Oh, I... Yeah, they're gonna raise that place. What's the old post?
26:52
The Sherwood Post, the old VFW. They're gonna take it? Oh. Or American Legion. Yeah, yeah, yeah. American Legion post, whichever one. I think they're gonna raise it. That's lame.
26:58
I don't think they have, uh- I drove by... uh- That's lame... I rode by it, too. Yeah, I rode by. Both. Historical. Oh, that's lame. Like, I don't think they have a historical designation or anything.
27:05
That's as bad as the Horny Goat getting taken down for that ugly ass shit they're building there now. Oh, well, but the Horny Goat, well, it just was a failed business. Right, and it was a great building.
27:13
The building itself was stunning. Yeah, the, and the property- The building was interesting... actually, I, we just saw... Tonight, I just saw that building for the first time from the highway.
27:19
It's fucking- And I was like, "What? Whoa. Oh, wait. I watched that"- That, yeah... 'cause I was working across the street on the other side. Yeah. Yeah. And it's not bad. That thing's a monster. It's not bad.
27:27
I mean, fr- well, well, I mean, from the, from, from- More power to it. It's gonna help Milwaukee grow. Yeah. It's gonna help Bayview grow. We're... It's just on the river. Nah.
27:33
And everything along the river is gonna go boom, boom. But from a distance, it looks in, so much more immense than like- And, yeah, yeah. In 45 years they'll tear it down and build something else...
27:41
right where it would violate. It would be just like, it's like, "Oh, Forest green trees." Right. "Oh, yeah. Here's a big ass tree in front of me." Right. But then, like far away, it's like, "Holy shit, it's...
27:48
Wow, that's a big bastard." [laughs] It's okay, my flag. So Zito- Did we get everything we wanted to talk about, about Milwaukee By Bike? Uh, I, I, yeah, I think so.
27:57
Uh, just to let everybody know, this Sunday at n- 11:30- Next Sunday. Next Sunday. Or next Sunday, the 28th, we're gonna start registering, uh, people around 11:30.
28:07
And you can just come down, grab a manifest, go do your thing. It's, we got four hours to go not very far. And- At the Coop Bridge? Yep, at the Coop Bridge. Do we have to bring our own bikes, or can we use one?
28:17
You bring your own bikes. You can use one of ours if you want. You can contact us at milwaukeebybike@gmail.com. Um- There's also a- Our bikes are for grab-... there's a #milwaukeebybike on Instagram, too. Yep, yep, yep.
28:30
Uh, although, I think... I don't think that's us. It is now. Oh. [laughs] All right. Yeah. You can certainly claim that. There was a Facebook page Milwaukee By Bike.
28:40
Yeah, there was an old Milwaukee By Bike, or an MKE By Bike or something. Yeah, but that's not us. But- So- You know... but yeah, everyone's welcome to come down.
28:48
I'm just gonna see if Bill from, uh, Rushmore and Pho Eyes- Mr. Bill... from WM- oh, he's been on your show before. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Maybe he'll spend some tunes for us- DJ Heavy Soul... if he's got time. Nope.
28:57
I haven't talked to him. We're still kind of putting- Chances... things together. We had our first paying customer today who signed up to rent a bike on Sunday, so. Awesome. Nice. Very good.
29:06
Well, congratulations for getting it off the ground. Yeah, it was, uh, it's, it's a big relief. Hell, yeah. Yeah. It's, uh, I'm really excited.
29:12
I wanna, you know, make Milwaukee the best cy- I learned a lot of stuff in Minneapolis, which I think is the best cycling city in the country. Uh, we have also, um, Madison's number two, by the way. Nah.
29:23
It's just right here. It's just a bunch of- Madison bike- On whatever metric they had... ranked second best biking city. In the, in the US? Yeah. That's 'cause it's so small and easy. According to the...
29:32
Well, I, I think it's according to, I think it was, uh- And it's liberal, and it's a college town. But you think like- Well, are people by bike. If you think like- Top city or whatever it was...
29:37
Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, the thing about Minneapolis is so many people ride all year round. Guess what number one is? San Luis Obispo, California. [laughs] What? Where the hell is that?
29:49
They're like cycling adventurists. I could make a worse city. Okay, okay, okay, okay. All 10 rider city em- you know, residents ride their bike? What the hell? To be fair, somebody did- To be fair...
29:58
a, an analysis of this, and Santa Barbara was number three, and they're like, "Those aren't even real towns." So they crossed those off. Washington DC is somehow number four. Washington DC is great. Mm-hmm.
30:08
Pittsburgh is awesome. Portland's number 12 Fayetteville, Arkansas Now what do you mean? Number 10. Are we talking riders or- It's people for bikes... easy to ride? People for bikes. People for bikes.
30:18
Easy to ride, but easy cities to ride? What is, what is the category? Look, I, there's a lot of criteria. There's five major ones.
30:24
Yeah, and- I don't wanna, uh, cut those- I, I gotta tell you- All right, here they are: safety- Is Pittsburgh on there?... ridership, acceleration, network, reach.
30:31
Um, and, uh, what's- Pittsburgh is one of the coolest cities I've seen in the US. Pittsburgh's number 20. Oh. Austin, Arlington, New Orleans, Provincetown, Massachusetts, which- Ooh, what's that? What's Provincetown?
30:39
Oh, that's- Well, 16, but it's out at the end of the- That's- Yeah, yeah... the pond, I mean- That's what I mean, yeah... where you gotta go. It's like eight blocks- You got an ocean around you...
30:44
it's eight blocks and most people are walking anyway. Yeah. Right. San Fran, which means you have- So yeah, that's three down. You have- All right, this study's bullshit. [laughs] Yeah. Brooklyn- Next...
30:52
I'm going backwards Brooklyn. Brooklyn, 15. Um- Oh, no... Bella Vista- Pittsburgh- Arkansas... Pittsburgh, the, the bike path- Tucson, Portland... the bike system- Ann Arbor...
30:58
the path system in Pittsburgh- Fayetteville... like PGH, is fantastic... Grand Forks. Grand Forks, North Dakota made the list. [laughs] Grand Forks. Golly. Earl. By cracky. You know who lives there? Who?
31:07
I think, uh, Brady Rell lives, I think, in Grand Forks. Who? Or no, he lives in Fargo. Who? Oh. Brady Rell, drummer from Soma and bands of the past- Okay...
31:14
and the other thing that came when he was always playing in his underwear. We saw him at the, uh, thing down there. Murder Junkies? No, some other band. Oh. Big- Oh, actually Mur- Big Mother, Big Mother Gig...
31:25
oh, Big Mother Gig, gotcha. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Anyway. I was thinking- Brady used to, was from Milwaukee... no, Murder Junkies, Murder Junkies, the drummer is naked. By cracky, we're talking a lot of cycling here.
31:33
That was GG Allin's last band, by the way. Murder By Numbers? Nope, Murder Junkies. One, two, three. GG Allin and the Murder Junkies. [laughs] They played Quarters about two years ago, and- You gotta go, you gotta go...
31:43
I got there a little late, and then when the drummer got up to break his kit down, naked as a jaybird, and then he bent over and shoved [laughs] his drumsticks up his ass. [laughs] Wait, wait, what?
31:54
It was [laughs] Wait, what? It was- Both of them at the same time? Just one. Just one. Oh, more fingers. Oh, him. Um- Yeah, he wasn't ready. What did you say, what did you say?
32:01
[laughs] Yeah, like how far up his ass did he put it? [laughs] I don't know. Like, the whole thing? [laughs] Well, yeah. No, not the whole thing. We gotta put my bike together before we leave- No...
32:07
'cause, yeah, I gotta get home. You guys gotta see, it's in, Tony's Sparta bike there. Took the front end- Oh... right off of the thing. Whoa, hello. It's, it's a, it's a dispos- no, it's not a disposable.
32:20
[laughs] Whose bike? It's a foldable bike. Whose bike is it, Andy? It's a disposable bike. [laughs] No, it's in the, it's in the Bike Fed Bullet. That's the Bike Fed's e-bike Bullet. E-bike Bullet.
32:26
That we hopefully have repaired. I'll, I'll put a picture of that because this, you- I might have to borrow that. Yeah, you just can't see this thing. The Bullet? It's fast as hell, man. 'Cause it's a e-bike. Yeah.
32:34
All right, everybody. That scares me. Here's the thing. Yeah, it's cool. We've wasted enough of your time, so we'll see you next week. Bye. Is that it? That's it.
32:47
[upbeat music]
