- 2:23chance to get into it, I want to talk about the storm cleanup as
- 2:27the damage. The damage assessments are now continuing. Now there are reports and
- 2:30I'll have to get verification on this. We've talked about where the tornadoes actually
- 2:34hit. We know about the one in Hiko in southern West Virginia, but
- 2:38there's also reports now that one may have been confirmed for cross lanes that hit
- 2:44on those storms and Tuesdays. So we'll get into that coming up a little

- 2:57Hannah Gardner from The Canal Charles Dumanians Susie with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet
- 3:01of the Week. Hannah, good morning, Welcome to the show. Good
- 3:05morning, how are you. I'm doing fine, Thank you for being here.
- 3:07Before we get to our pet of the week, I want to talk
- 3:09about the cleanup there at the shelter. How it's going since the U Haul
- 3:15tried to make it a drive through about a week and a half ago.
- 3:17How's the cleanup on that end going. I believe that all of the rubble
- 3:22and everything is pretty much cleaned up. It's just kind of a waiting game
- 3:25to figure out like what our next steps are. Last I heard was that,
- 3:32you know, it was worse than what we expected it to be,
- 3:35so we're going to contractors to come out and look at it and stuff like
- 3:38that. And I haven't heard any updates since, so we'll be able to
- 3:43let you know probably next week what we share, okay. And I do
- 3:46know that coming out of the Canaan County Commission meeting last night that they allocated
- 3:50fifteen thousand dollars to help you guys out, So that's certainly it's certainly good
- 3:53news on there. And did you guys get any storm damage up there on
- 3:55the storms on Tuesday, No, we didn't get anything. I was there
- 4:01the day that it all happened, and it was pretty much just really heavy
- 4:06winds, really heavy rain where we were. We didn't really get any kind
- 4:10of damage or anything like that to the shelter anymore than what was already.
- 4:14It did not add insult to injury. So at this point, as far
- 4:16as the cleanup goes from the U haul incident up there, what do you
- 4:19still need from the public at this point as far as that goes, so,
- 4:25of course, you know, we need all of our usual things for
- 4:28the animals and stuff. I think that's still a big priority for all the
- 4:32people that have all of our animals and foster homes. Of course, we
- 4:36could always use things to help clean up and tidy up the shelter, kind
- 4:40of basic cleaning items, just so that way we can get everything prepared for
- 4:45whenever all of the construction and stuff does start to happen. But as of
- 4:50now, it's really just our usual donations on our wish lists and things like
- 4:54that, which you can check out under the wishless section on adopt Charleston dot
- 4:59com. If you do have any questions or anything like that, you can
- 5:01always call us. We're still at the shelter, We're still working. We
- 5:05do have I believe, like twenty two dogs on site right now, but
- 5:10we don't have any cats or puppies right now, so we still have those.
- 5:14If you're wanting to volunteer, you can come walk some dogs, you
- 5:16can help us clean a little bit each day, But as of volunteering,
- 5:20that's pretty much the biggest things that we have right now, pretty much the
- 5:24only things that we have right now. So yeah, I would say those
- 5:28are important well, and there's always so many ways that you can help out
- 5:30the shelter other than just adopting. We want to encourage people to do that,
- 5:33but sometimes, as you and I talk about every weekend, it's not
- 5:36always possible for people they live in a smaller quarters, or maybe they've got
- 5:41other animals. There are ways to get involved to help out these animals that
- 5:44don't necessarily involve being a foster or adopting one, but we do want to
- 5:49get one particular one adopted, and that is Indi. Indy is our adopt
- 5:55me please. Pet of the Week is always picture posted the Dave Island Radio
- 5:58and Facebook and the day chill on X tell us about Andy. All right,
- 6:03Well, Andy is a female. She's a very very sweet girl.
- 6:08She's about one year old, I believe, and she's kind of sitting around
- 6:13sixty sixty four pounds, I believe is what she's kind of in the range
- 6:16of She wasn't a foster home for a little bit, and the foster let
- 6:23us know all great things. She had two female dogs of her own,
- 6:28and she said that all three of them got along great, they were playful,
- 6:31they slept together, they were just great, and that she only had
- 6:35one accident in the house and that was I believe, she said the first
- 6:39day she got there, so you know, to be expected to. But
- 6:42as the rest of the time she was there, she would go outside.
- 6:45She seemed to be housebroken, which is always good news, always great to
- 6:48hear. But other than that, she definitely didn't show any signs of any
- 6:55kind of resourcing with toys or food or anything like that. But she's she's
- 7:00not fixed yet, but she will be whenever we get her on the schedule
- 7:02for whoever wants to adopt her, we should be able to get her rather
- 7:05in quickly, so definitely come up. Look at her You can take her
- 7:10for a walk. You could even foster her yourself if you wanted to for
- 7:13a few days if you weren't quite ready to make the commitment, if you
- 7:16wanted to see how she did, maybe with your own dogs at the shelter.
- 7:20She's great with other playful dogs. We haven't had any issues with really
- 7:24males or females with her, so she's really just an all around good dog.
- 7:29She seems to just be like a good family dog. She's been good
- 7:32with kids as well, but we always advise passion, even if they're the
- 7:36sweetest dog with kids. You never want to have any accidents happen when you
- 7:41leave the room unknowingly, so definitely always keep an eye for a handful of
- 7:46months until you know, you kind of get to know the dog a little
- 7:47bit more and you get to teach your kids how to respect the boundaries of
- 7:51a dog too. But other than that, she definitely needs a home.
- 7:56She's ready for a yard to play in, a couch to lay on,
- 7:59and we definitely want to see her go out well. She is an absolutely
- 8:03beautiful dog. Any idea what kind of dog she is? Oh goodness,
- 8:05no, I couldn't tell you. She's a good mixture of stuff. I
- 8:09mean, she could have shepherd in her, she could have pity in her,
- 8:13she could have quite a few different things in here. She's got that
- 8:16terrier spunk to her a little bit, so I'm not sure. Well,
- 8:20she's a beautiful dog. And she's about sixty one pounds right now, so
- 8:24you need to probably keep that in mind. That's kind of on the larger
- 8:26side, is it not. Yeah, yeah, I would consider her to
- 8:30be a large dog. She's more so sick than she is, like really
- 8:35big, but she's definitely a larger dog. Yeah. Well, she's an
- 8:37absolutely beautiful dog. And again, as and again, we always say that
- 8:43there are exceptions, there could be, but that would be a perfect family
- 8:46pat. As you said, Indy seems to get along with other dogs.
- 8:50When she was in foster home, she did fine with the other dog.
- 8:52She is housebroken, walks well on a leash, seems to be good with
- 8:54kids. Not Spade yet, but will be an absolutely beautiful dog. Would
- 8:58be a great addition to your home. Before we let you go, I
- 9:01know that on your social media and by the way, if you don't follow
- 9:03the Canal trost Neumaine Association on Social media, make sure that you do.
- 9:07You did a virtual tour posted on your Facebook page, and I was looking
- 9:11at that last night. I like that idea, Hannah, because it gives
- 9:15you more than just pictures of the animal, you can actually see them in
- 9:18action, so to speak. Yeah, we try to do one of those
- 9:20every week. I believe Angie or Sarah and sometimes Julie is the one who
- 9:26does the virtual visits. They're really really helpful, so you can always tune
- 9:31into those, and you can ask questions while you're on the virtual visit.
- 9:33We try to answer them as we see them. If we don't see them,
- 9:37we will answer them after the virtual visit, so don't feel like we're
- 9:41not going to answer you. We will, but definitely tune into those.
- 9:45We let you know everything that's going on. We let you know how many
- 9:48dogs we have, what dogs we have, what's going on with just everything.
- 9:52So they're definitely very informational, very helpful. Yeah, indeed, I
- 9:56always like to check those out. And I know I mentioned about the Cannock
- 10:00County Commission helping out with the with the situation up there, but there have
- 10:03been so many others that I saw that Papa John's for example, was one
- 10:07that was getting involved with so many uh so many businesses that have been helping
- 10:11you guys with the cleanup following that U haul incident from a week and a
- 10:13half or so ago. Yeah, we've had quite a lot of different like
- 10:18businesses. We've had like little goss tournaments to raise money for us. We've
- 10:22had, I mean, we've had a lot of support and a lot of
- 10:24dedication from people who just love the shelter want to help the shelter for the
- 10:30animals or the staff, or whatever reason it may be. It's definitely very
- 10:35very beautiful thing to see where all of West Virginia to help out even other
- 10:39states. Yeah, and I do want to bring this up to you anytime
- 10:41that we have the severe weather like we had in West Virginia on Tuesday here
- 10:46with the flooding and the you know, the high winds, whatever. Sometimes
- 10:50you hear these stories about animals being being displaced, or animals get spooked and
- 10:56they just run off. Some animals that wouldn't normally do that do because they
- 10:58get frightened or whatever. Do you have any any stories about that, about
- 11:01maybe other humane associations whatever that have reached out to you or when we've had
- 11:07these homes destroyed and trying to find places for home or for pets and anything
- 11:13like that come through. You guys. I mean we've had well, you
- 11:18know, from the flood and everything, we haven't really had very many strays
- 11:20or anything come in. So you know, that's great to hear. But
- 11:24if you ever do have an animal go missing from a storm, A lot
- 11:28of dogs are scared of thunder and lightning and all that. So if you
- 11:31ever do have that, check out the shelter call even just come up.
- 11:35If it was my animal, I'd be going crazy. I just throw up
- 11:37to the shelter. But yeah, there are plenty of different ways. You
- 11:41can check out our stray section on our website, which is adopt Charleston dot
- 11:45com. And then there's plenty of different websites that we have on our resources
- 11:50that you can also check out for missing animals in general. All Right,
- 11:54Hannah, I will let you go. We'll talk to you next week.
- 11:56Thanks a lot. Thank you. Hand a gardener again from the canal.
- 11:58Try Austiny main association with indyor not me please. Pet of the Week.
- 12:03Indy is one year old, not spade yet, but will be very kid
- 12:07friendly. Housebroken, seems to prefer other playful dogs, got along his hand
- 12:13and said just fine. When she was being fostered, she was at a
- 12:15home with two other dogs and seemed to do absolutely perfect with that. Walks
- 12:20well on a leash. As I said, housebroken, I mean, this
- 12:24is the ideal dog if you're looking for a beautiful family dog. A little
- 12:30on the larger side, as I said, well, I think what was
- 12:31it? Hannah said something like not so much big, but thick. I'd
- 12:35say that that would be an insult if you were talking about a person.
- 12:39But nonetheless, Indy is a would be a perfect, perfect pet for somebody.
- 12:43So I've got the picture as always do. Post it on my social
- 12:46media today Island Radio, and also on my ex the artist formally known as
- 12:50Twitter page. Go take a look at Indy and let's get India. Adopted
- 12:52beautiful dog, one year old, housebroken, not spade yet but will be.
- 12:58Loves other dogs, love kids, loves to cuddle. Go get Indy
- 13:01and he's not gonna last very long. We need to get Indy in a

- 17:30is weather US right now, Good morning, sir, welcome back, Good
- 17:33morning. Dave's good to be here. Last time you were here, it
- 17:36was Tuesday morning. We had you on in the first slot nine o five
- 17:40nine oh seven or so, and then two hours later the whole world came
- 17:44almost crashing down here. So let's try not to let that happen again,
- 17:48all right, exactly, Yeah, but how did you guys make out?
- 17:51And then where were you guys when when the storm hit on Tuesday? We
- 17:53were in the Civic center just trying to get SI situating, but overall at
- 18:00we lost power at home, but we made it through. We made it
- 18:03through, okay, as just praise your power back on. Yes, yes,
- 18:07yes, we're about I think I had the last I heard Carrie say
- 18:08in the morning news this morning, what about ninety percent right now? They
- 18:11had hoped to have it on last night. But sometimes when you have the
- 18:15high winds and stuff, and that's sort of kind of into business you're in.
- 18:18You you gotta be safe and you got the workers out there, man,
- 18:21Yes, exactly. Well, we got a lot of generative people here
- 18:22at the Colisseum this weekend. So a lot of those guys they started,
- 18:27they started a booth and then they had to leave because they had to go
- 18:30out and help some of those folks get that generators going and that sort of
- 18:33thing. So I tip of my head to those guys because it's really been
- 18:37challenging to them. I always say, you know, you never want to
- 18:41use a tragedy to sell things, but sometimes it does happen. When people
- 18:44are without power. They're like, I got to get a generator and and
- 18:48this and the big picture of things as far as power out it just I
- 18:49mean, I know, in the du Ratio back in twenty twelve, I
- 18:52didn't even live in Charleston. I was living in southern West Virginia at the
- 18:56time. We were without power I think for eight days that makes you think
- 18:59I got to get a generator, and you've got folks, as you said,
- 19:02at the Home Show that have generators, right. Yes, I was
- 19:03actually speaking to some of the folks last night from Expect Power and a lot
- 19:07of our people were out and some of them were still out just trying to
- 19:10help some of the folks that that has generated is get them started back up.
- 19:15So it was really challenging for those folks. But they've done an excellent
- 19:18job, they really have. Indeed, again we're talking to Wilford Haynes as
- 19:22we get ready for the Home Show over to Kyle Sema Convention Center hours.
- 19:26It actually opens up the day at noon and runs till eight o'clock tonight tomorrow,
- 19:30ten till eight Sunday eleven or five admission ten bucks for that's ten dollars
- 19:33for adults. Kids fifteen and under though get in for free. And before
- 19:37we get at anything else, see what we're going to do. We'll get
- 19:40Ryan ready to go in. Here. I have a couple of pair of
- 19:42tickets to give away to someone that they'd like to go to the show.
- 19:45If your caller four right now at three zero four three four five fifty eight
- 19:49fifty eight three zero four three four five fifty eight fifty caller number four.
- 19:52Right now, I will hook you up with a pair of tickets to the
- 19:56Home Show. Now, these are good for any day that you want to
- 19:57go. Any day you want to go today, you want to go Saturday,
- 20:02or you want to go Sunday after church or whatever. We got you
- 20:04tickets again. The hours are from noon till eight today, ten to eight
- 20:08tomorrow and Sunday eleven to five. Caller four right now, three zero four,
- 20:12three four five fifty eight fifty eight three zero four three four five fifty
- 20:15eight fifty eight caller four. Right now, we'll hook up with a pair
- 20:18of free tickets for the Home Show. Well, forgive us some of the
- 20:22rundown of just to some of the vendors you've got this year, so we
- 20:25have expect powers. I was saying, their generator company. We have builders
- 20:29first Source, which build a first source, which is really nice. They're
- 20:32giving away a kitchen, so that's gonna be really really nice. Ferguson is
- 20:36paradig with Ge appliances. GE is given away a refrigerator, dishwasher in a
- 20:41stove, and that's gonna be given away on The drawing is gonna be on
- 20:45Sunday around four o'clock, so that's gonna be really really nice. That's a
- 20:48full kitchen, right, full kitchen, yes, yes, so build us
- 20:51first source. They're giving away this shaker style white kitchen complete no appliances.
- 20:57Then ge is giving away of a really stove in a dishwash separate deal.
- 21:02But it's really been really really nice. Got everything, but the food isn't
- 21:04exactly exactly exactly talk about some of the other vendors, I mean, because
- 21:08there's there is something for the entire home there. Oh yeah. So the
- 21:12landscaping, the landscaping as you come in this year is just really really nice.
- 21:17They've really gone out and done some really really nice landscaping. We have
- 21:22the homage furniture there which is really really nice as well, the lawn and
- 21:26gardens. Solar energy which is also very nice and very popular right right now
- 21:30with the elect electric cars and all that sort of sort of thing going on.
- 21:34Got the meal work in doors, interior designed folks, the hand and
- 21:40man services, so that's also really really nice going on. I want to
- 21:42say this, we do have a winner of our tickets, Jerry Water.
- 21:45So Jerry congratulations. He won himself a pair of free tickets for the Home
- 21:48show, so he was callar for So Jerry, congratulations to join your time
- 21:52at the Home show. And Jerry, not only that, if you go
- 21:53today from at noon, the first one hundreds gets a free lunch. So
- 22:00that's another little plus, Fay and listen. Jerry Waters is an old radio
- 22:03guy, so he's an old radio guy. We like free stuff. I
- 22:07was going to mention that free lunch today and that's limited to how many people,
- 22:11first one hundreds yes, all right, so and it starts at noon
- 22:15today, yes, so get over there about eleven thirty, eleven forty five
- 22:18or so, first one hundred people get free lunch. So Jerry, not
- 22:21only are you going to get free admission, but if you go today you
- 22:23also get free lunch as well. There's immediate people. We love free lunch.
- 22:27There's no such thing as as free lunch, but there is, but
- 22:30there is. Again one of the things again we're talking with Wilford Haynes about
- 22:33the Home Show. One of the things that I think is so great about
- 22:36this is again you can go in and you can ask questions. Because if
- 22:38you go to one of the larger you know, big box stores or even
- 22:44smaller stores. Sometimes the person working may have a limited knowledge of what and
- 22:48they do the best they can of the particular product. But this is an
- 22:51opportunity for you to talk to industry professionals that are there and you can say,
- 22:55Okay, well, I'm thinking about redoing my kitchen. Here's the dimensions
- 22:59and you can ask questions about it or the heating and cooling, or the
- 23:02landscaping or whatever exactly. And they want you to bring your blueprints in or
- 23:06if you've got ideas on landscaping or just really about anything, come in,
- 23:11sit down. They really are open for a lot of questions that this weekend.
- 23:17They really are I want to throw this out there at the Dave Aland
- 23:19Show. Speaking of food, the Dave Alan Show on five, Any Life
- 23:22is brought to you apart by Husband's Pizza where you can get a large at
- 23:25Nitch Pepperoni pizza and a large toss solid only twenty ninety nine at your favorite
- 23:29Husband's location. Talk about the kids construction area. Yeah, so eight and
- 23:32four Lumber is doing this. This is really nice to bring this back this
- 23:37year. They build bird houses. I think there's some cars, there's some
- 23:41other things too, but also what eight of four lumber is doing every day
- 23:48Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They getting away five hundred dollars per day,
- 23:52which is really really huge. So anfour Lumbers is always partner with the Home
- 23:56Build Association and with the Home Show and they always do a really really nice
- 24:00job. So that's gonna be really really nice. Will it's just registration,
- 24:03yes, just just purchase necessary. Talk about the organization that's putting this on.
- 24:08So the Homebuild Association we started back in nineteen fifty nine and it's really
- 24:12really nice. One of the things that we do every year is that we
- 24:17have the Henry E. King Scholarship Fund, so we give two students two
- 24:21thousand dollars and they can use it for a trade school or college or whatever.
- 24:25And that's another thing that we do that that's really really nice the Home
- 24:27Build Association. If you call in and speak to Donna Crotty over there at
- 24:32the office and you're looking for a builder or if you're look looking for a
- 24:34plumber, we have a list that we'll go through. And the beauty of
- 24:37calling the office is that you know you're gonna get a reptable person. You
- 24:41know that person gonna be licened. You know the persons gonna be insured.
- 24:45So when you call, you gonna get a good name. The Home Deeald
- 24:48Association, we do stand behind the people that we not really choosing for you,
- 24:52but we give you a list of people that you can pick from.
- 24:56We got to changes have you seen in the home industry since you've been involved
- 24:59in all this, because I mean it's amazing to me. My wife and
- 25:03I when we purchased a new home back in twenty eighteen and we went and
- 25:07bought new appliances and that was in twenty eighteen, a lot of changes.
- 25:11And I mean everything in the home now it can be run off your phone.
- 25:15You know, you got absolute the refrigerators playing music and so on,
- 25:17and so for that, it's amazing. What kind of changes have you seen
- 25:21since you been well, you know, I work for Fergus in the enterprise
- 25:23and we sell plumbing, lighting, HVAC. So in my business itself,
- 25:30it's there's there's been just a lot of changes just on the HVAC side,
- 25:34just all the different types of gases that you have to use to the in
- 25:37the systems itself. On the builder side, a lot of times it's just
- 25:41trying to get people, just trying to get helpers to do the job and
- 25:45do the job properly. So that's been some of the biggest changes. Then
- 25:48with the interest rates going up and down, very fluctuating, that's make it
- 25:53somewhat difficult as well. And we don't have a lot of builders in this
- 25:57area. JD. Strickling is one of our prominent builders in the area and
- 26:02he does a fantastic job in building, and we have some others as well,
- 26:04but we don't have a lot of construction going on in general. Back
- 26:08several years back, you know Tays Valley, they was doing a lot of
- 26:11building in Tays Valley area. You don't see that much right now. But
- 26:15overall, I think we're hanging in there. And we need more homes.
- 26:18Yeah, we talked about that the other day. We have a desperate need
- 26:22for more homes, not only in the Canal Valley but all over West Virginia.
- 26:26And it's not just what you think of as family homes. We need
- 26:29town homes. We need more more quality apartments and things of that nature.
- 26:33Yes, all right, So again, Home Show is going on today.
- 26:37It starts at noon and runs till eight o'clock. Remember the first one hundred
- 26:40people through the door get free lunch today. What do we having for lunch?
- 26:44I don't know for sure it's free. I mean what make Tomorrow's hours
- 26:48are from ten to eight Sunday from eleven to five. Admission is ten dollars.
- 26:52Kids fifteen a nunder will get in for free. And you can just
- 26:55check them out on Facebook if you need more information about that. Wilford,
- 26:57we'll let you get back over there because they're probably listen you over there,
- 27:00man, because set up is today. I actually set ups been going on
- 27:03for a while. Yes, and we are ready. We're ready. We're
- 27:06ready for the people to come in. When the doors open up, we're
- 27:07all excited. And I tell you there's not gonna be a better place to
- 27:11be than to be at the Chauston colise him this this this weekend, all
- 27:15right. Before I let you go, we've got a question here for you.
- 27:17You didn't know you're gonna have to answer questions. Somebody texted in.
- 27:19The questions says, are there a handyman type contractors at the home show to
- 27:23speak to about any task needing done at your home but are unable to do
- 27:26yourself? We need sections of floors replaced in different parts of our home and
- 27:30can't afford to replace entire rooms. Any handyman type service, Yes, when
- 27:34you first come in, you have missed a handyman. He's right there,
- 27:37right in front of you. Truth and advertisement. Yes, yes, they're
- 27:41there all right. So so the text or mister handyman is the first person
- 27:45you see when you come in, and I'm sure there's probably others that'll be
- 27:48there too, So there you go. Yes, there are handy I guess
- 27:51we should say handy people, right, Yes, there's a lot. There's
- 27:52a lot of handy people, handed people there at the Kyles of Convention Center.
- 27:56Again, well, Ford, I appreciate you taking time to schedule be
- 28:00or we'll see you over this weekend. Man, thanks a lot, Thank

- 31:55Osborne from Capital Market is here. How are you man? Fantastic love the
- 31:57intro music, Lawyer's Gone and money Yeah, little Warren Zevon for the people,
- 32:01one of my favorites. Yeah. You know who also did a good
- 32:04version of that song? Here? Think I'm crazy, but a lot of
- 32:07people have covered that, so you know who did a good version of that
- 32:07song. Hank Williams Junior. I'm going to go listen to it. Nank
- 32:10Williams Junior on the major Moves album nineteen eighty five, did a version that
- 32:15was the name of the album Major Moves nineteen eighty five. He did a
- 32:19version of Lawyer's Guns and Money, and it's actually next to Warren Zevon,
- 32:22probably the second best version of that song. Okay, all right, obscure
- 32:27reference man, exactly why did you come in here with flowers and cookies?
- 32:30Are we dating? Now? I know my bread's butter. He comes through
- 32:34the door and he's got flowers and he's got cookie. Well, I didn't
- 32:37see much of the cookies, Ryan, Ryan has the cookies right now.
- 32:39No, as I was leaving the market on my way over. We have
- 32:42two incredible pop up vendors at the market this morning. Nellie's cookie jar some
- 32:46of the best cookies you will ever, that right, Ryan, and Nellie's
- 32:51cookie rapper is what I have now he's shaking it through the glass. Ever,
- 32:53and our good friends out at a given flower company, they have just
- 32:58some incredible tools. So I thought you could take those home to the wife
- 33:00toy. Oh well, if I take her to flowers, she's going to
- 33:02look at me, go, what did you do? See? It's even
- 33:06better? Yeah, you haven't done anything yet. Yeah, it's well the
- 33:08weekends. You can bank it for a future. Yeah, but remember I
- 33:13brought you flowers. She'll say, no, Evan brought me flowers. So
- 33:15well, I appreciate that very much. So tell us about the flowers and
- 33:19tell us what you go on. Yeah, so it is, believe it
- 33:22or not. Spring. Uh, it's been a wild week for us.
- 33:24Yeah. I was driving yesterday, I was driving to Mason County and uh,
- 33:28and I encountered on thirty five. Depending on where what section of road
- 33:32you were on, it was sunny, then it was pouring rain, then
- 33:36it was snowy, then it was hail at one point, and then it
- 33:38was sunny again. It was like we had everything I said, I think
- 33:42except for locusts yesterday on the on on my driving to Point Pleasant. Yes.
- 33:45Yes, so we're in that kind of carryover week where we are technically
- 33:51open and running in the outdoor market. However, I think just most of
- 33:55our growers and producers are waiting for the weather just to clear up a little
- 33:59bit. We're gonna be rocking and rolling next week with all of our outside
- 34:02vendors moving in. We've got a bunch of stuff lined up for the spring.
- 34:07It's uh, it's my really one of my favorite times of year.
- 34:13It's you know, we're shaking off all the winter blues and getting ready to
- 34:17be back outside and be you know, social again. There is something again
- 34:23about this time of year, you know, when when you do I mean,
- 34:28looks like next week. I was talking to Brian Hughes the other day
- 34:30and he was telling me that, look, it looks like next week temperature
- 34:34is going to be in the seventies at least sustained. We've seen some of
- 34:37that and then we saw you as I said, snowy, you know,
- 34:39but we're going to get some stained warmer, warmer weather, and that kind
- 34:44of puts you in that mood for the flowers and stuff. Absolutely, and
- 34:46when people come to Charleston it always amazes me, you know, and you
- 34:51and I have talked about this before. If you have somebody that's traveling into
- 34:53town on business or whatever, if they go to the front desk of their
- 34:57hotel or they ask their friends or co works or whatever, where do I
- 34:59need to go? People always say Capital Market. That's always, that's always
- 35:01before anything else. Always puts a smile on my face and really truthfully,
- 35:06and then in looking at you know where we are today and what we've got
- 35:09coming in the next month. There's just going to be some incredibly exciting news
- 35:15coming forward. We are very very close to announcing our newest tenant or first
- 35:19indoor tenant, first new indoor tenant and close to ten years. I can
- 35:23tell you that it will be food. Yes, I can't tell you specifically
- 35:28what kind yet. However, having tried quite a bit of it, I
- 35:34can tell you that I think everyone's going to be very happy with with what's
- 35:37coming in. Beyond that, we have our first great fundraiser Friday, April
- 35:44twenty six, Flowers after Hours. It's going to be an incredible celebration.
- 35:47We've got hot Jazz at Charleston. We're bringing down Chef Mary and Olinger from
- 35:52Mont County to put together just some incredible plates using all of our locally sourced
- 36:00items. It's gonna be a fantastic evening. That's on the twenty six YEP
- 36:06Friday, April twenty se Well, let's go ahead and plan on having you
- 36:07back on at some point between now and then to talk about I don't know
- 36:10is that Friday is that too late to talk about the day of? And
- 36:13we'll talk about it before just through anything going on that day. You got
- 36:17people, you got other people. Let's talk about what goes into getting the
- 36:22flowers race go back to that from what talks into getting all of these flowers
- 36:25over to capital. So most of our growers and producers are at least an
- 36:31hour outside of the actual location of the market. So logistically, you know,
- 36:37this doesn't happen, you know, in just a couple of weeks.
- 36:40So for example, right now, our fern growers that are just incredible at
- 36:46what they do, they're already ordering their inventory for next year. So you
- 36:52know, somebody like Evans Greenhouse or Gritz Farm, Uh, this is a
- 36:57year round production cycle for them. And so not only do you have the
- 37:00time and effort that it takes in cultivating this product to bring to the market,
- 37:05but then you know you have to staff it eight days or eight hours
- 37:08a day, seven days a week. And they're truly some of the hardest.
- 37:14I mean, everyone that works within the market works harder than than than
- 37:19I'll ever know how And you know, but that's where I think we draw
- 37:22a lot of the inspiration. We want to live up to the example that
- 37:25they set. And you know, it's it's so rewarding to see, uh,
- 37:32you know that week once everything comes in and it's full and it's in
- 37:36bloom and it's full of color. You know, I think that's you know,
- 37:39I love that the public sees it and they recognizes it and they think
- 37:44that it's pretty. But I also want them to understand all the time and
- 37:46effort and labor that went into to bringing that and bringing them so much joy.
- 37:51It's it's it's really cool to see Dave Allen Show and five any Live

- 38:15I had an opportunity, thanks to you, to be a judge for the
- 38:19Green Chili Shootouts or still for Yeah, Still Full. What a huge success
- 38:24that thing was, man, I mean, the weather was absolutely a little
- 38:27cool there. You just had to eat more chili. But a little cool
- 38:30there in the very beginning. But you had that, you had the music
- 38:32with the DJ, you had the wrestling show and everything. What a great
- 38:36event that was, man a couple of weeks ago, and a charitable event
- 38:37as well, So we were tremendously fortunate we lucked out on the weather that
- 38:43day. We had some absolutely incredible cooks for the competition. I'm so excited
- 38:51that we brought that event back. I thought that the addition of out of
- 38:57Pro Wrestling was a nice little to cap it off there at the end.
- 39:01I will say that we blew our metal folding chair budget for the year out
- 39:05of the water, but uh, but I think we'll recover, all right.
- 39:08Yeah it was. It was a great event. I mean it really
- 39:10really was. And I get an opporunity, as I said, to serve
- 39:13as a judge for the UH And you had different levels as far as the
- 39:15the the chili went. You had your your local groups and professionals, amateurs
- 39:21and professionals and the people that were the professionals, and we kind of I
- 39:24don't know if we talked about this enough. They won here or they placed
- 39:28here, whatever, then they get to move on somewhere else. They are
- 39:30headed to the World Championships this fall in Myrtle Beach. Yep, and it
- 39:34was it was really good stuff. The eclipse is happening Monday. You can
- 39:37ask anything going on over there for the eclipse, just deals galore. Well,
- 39:42I didn't know if you were having like an event or once once in
- 39:45a century savings. Yes, I thought you. I didn't know if you
- 39:47guys were going to be out there. They said, we will. Yeah,
- 39:50we're playing on uh a couple of different things. We've got some actually
- 39:57like swing by the office. I have some some some glass. This is
- 40:00available for folks that want to check it out. I honestly, for the
- 40:06past couple of weeks of just I was aware of it, but I didn't
- 40:08realize how significant it was till my wife said, you know, this is
- 40:13probably the last chance in our lifetime that we're going to have to see someone.
- 40:15Yeah. Yeah, indeed, And I know a lot of schools are
- 40:19going to be doing different things in conjunction with that. On the show on
- 40:22Monday. I'm gonna have Spencer Adkins on from Storm Tracker thursdy Pace Spencer's a
- 40:25little bit busy. I texted him last night and I said to come on
- 40:29the show on Friday, and he said, yeah, I'm a little busy
- 40:30right now. That's because of the whole thing, you know. I mean,
- 40:32if you've seen, and not to make light of it, but I
- 40:36mean what we had in Tuesday with the storms here was something else. But
- 40:38if you look at and we've got pictures posted at wv metro news dot com,
- 40:42Wheeling Island Stadium is now, I mean the water's up to the goalpost
- 40:46on the Ohio River. As I mentioned, I was in Mason County yesterday
- 40:51and just seeing how high the water was there and the section I was in,
- 40:53it really wasn't quote unquote that high. The town I referred to as
- 40:57my second home, Marietta, Ohio, it's it's a mess up there as
- 41:01well. Su Spencer was a little bit busy, but he will be on
- 41:05the show to try to explain this whole eclipse thing to us on I wish
- 41:08a first and you know the years that i've I've been working at the market.
- 41:14We saw it coming. We're where, we got everyone inside, but
- 41:17then the pressure just dropped like a light switch and it was something out of
- 41:22Poulter Dice, like literally all the doors of the market flew open all at
- 41:25once, like it was. It was amazing. I think, all things
- 41:30being equal, we're just tremendously fortunate. Did you guys sustain any damage to
- 41:32the minor damage, nothing that can't be repaired, and hopefully we should have
- 41:37it back to normal, you know, within the next few weeks. But
- 41:42you know, I'm just tremendously grateful for all of the staff at the market,
- 41:50all of the vendors. You know, we all pitched in, got
- 41:52it cleaned up, and we're back up and running the next day. Important.
- 41:55It's very important. Again, no one was injured. I mean there
- 41:59were some minor injuries reported in other areas, but no debts. Incredible.
- 42:02Well, it just goes to show you about we're just more weather aware now.
- 42:06You know. We all have to get the alerts on our phone and
- 42:08and and we tell people, you know, tune into local radio, local
- 42:12television. Well, and I thought they did a really good job. You
- 42:14know, have to because we're directly behind the tornado siren for the city alert
- 42:17system, and so we're used to it going off once a month and then
- 42:21when it didn't turn off. Oh yeah, maybe there's they're serious this time.
- 42:23Yeah, and that was very interesting kind of what happened here. You
- 42:27know, we were all I've told the story throughout the week, we were
- 42:29all kind of hunkered in the basement here at eleven eleven. And when that,
- 42:32you know, we said, okay, well there's the siren and we're
- 42:35just as you said, We're used to it being a test. We always
- 42:37tell people that the test is coming. But this was not a test.
- 42:40It was the exactly the way it worked, exactly what it should exactly right.

- 46:44Let me knock out a couple of texts or Texas Dave. Have you
- 46:45heard anything about Optimum regarding internet outages or cabled in the area. No,
- 46:50I have not. I apologize for that. I know that where I live
- 46:55I've still got service. We were actually without cell phone service for a while,
- 47:00but in the big picture of things, that's certainly a minor inconvenience compared
- 47:05to what everybody else. No answer the textra question, I have not heard
- 47:08anything about the optimum regarding internet outages or cable in the area. Texas day.
- 47:14The Washington Street Bridge in Charleston is in critical condition. Severe deterioration has
- 47:19occurred, major steel section loss has occurred, and the rough scale has not
- 47:22been removed to determine the amount of steel remaining. The Dohs can spend money
- 47:27on a lot of non important things, but can't paint a critical bridge,
- 47:31says it's extra weal. The information is now out there as the cleanup from
- 47:38the storms continue. Cat Skelton has a story post to wv metronews dot com
- 47:44and it has to do with spoiled food. And I will tell you it
- 47:46killed my soul after the duatio in twenty twelve. And I didn't even live
- 47:52in Charleston. I lived in southern West Virginia, but we got hit hard
- 47:53there as well. It actually killed my soul to have to throw away all
- 47:58that food and then have to go back to the grocery store and buy it
- 48:00all back. Well, the city of Charleston is helping to try to get
- 48:04rid of that food. There are trucks to collect the ruined food setting up
- 48:08at the North Charleston Rec Center on seventh Avenue in the Kanas City Rec Center
- 48:13as well. They were there yesterday and we'll be there today from three until
- 48:17six. Now, if you Readcat's story posted on the website, one Kanas
- 48:22City resident was throwing away six industrial sized trash bags full of spoiled food.
- 48:31But so they are going to be setting up but today at those locations again
- 48:36from three until six. There at the North Charleston Rec Center and also at
- 48:39the Kanas City Rec Center, trucks are set up there went end out,
- 48:44throw it out, as they say, take it over there today. And
- 48:50if you can't make it to those rec centers, I gust some information earlier.
- 48:54You can actually place it in your regular garbage you know that's gonna smell
- 49:00good, or you can bring it to the Kanawa City Rec Center during the
- 49:04first round of the City of Charleston's scheduled cleanup. This was already scheduled and
- 49:09it was tomorrow from nine to one. Now. This is the cleanup that
- 49:15was designed for residents of Kanaha City in South Hills. And speaking to cleanups,
- 49:20the first spring cleanup put on by the Kanawha County Planning and Development Office
- 49:23is also happening tomorrow This one is for residents of Sissonville, and it's tomorrow
- 49:30eight till four at the intersection of Cistonville Drive and Castorf Road. So instead
- 49:35of telling you what they will take, how about I tell you what they
- 49:37won't take tomorrow. I think that might be easier. They can't take gas
- 49:42and propane tanks. They can't take any kind of hazardous waste or paint or
- 49:46chemicals. Also can't take motor oil, but pretty much anything else they can
- 49:52take for what I understand, And now keep in mind that this is for
- 49:54residents, not for businesses. It's only for residents. And again this is
- 49:59the first one of the series of these. This one sponsored by the Canon
- 50:01County Planning Development Office, and this is for residents of Sissonville, and it's
- 50:07tomorrow from eight till four at the intersection of Sissonville Drive and Castorpe Road.
- 50:10And I've got information posted about the cleanups, both the one the City of
- 50:14Charleston is doing and that the Development Office is doing. I've got information on
- 50:20both of those posted on my social media Dave alland Radio and also at the
- 50:23Dave A seventy of the Dave Allen Show on the artist formerly known as Twitter
- 50:27now known as Acts. A Dave Allen Show in five eighty Live is brought
- 50:30to you in part by Morgan to Morgan. They are America's largest injury law
- 50:35firm Texas. Dave, put ice in your washing machine and put your food
- 50:39in it to keep it from going bad. The washer is basically an insulated
- 50:44cooler. All right, good advice, Good advice, I suppose, by
- 50:50the way, I will say, if you need more information about the cleanups
- 50:52for the Knan County Planet Development Office, just call the commission three zero four
- 50:57three five seven zero five seven zero three zero four three five seven zero five
- 51:02seven zero. So what to do with the municipal auditorium? There are two
- 51:07options, according to the city and to architects. Jared Lewis with a story
- 51:12posted about a WV Metro news dot com. A special committee meeting was held
- 51:15last night between city council members and members of the Coliseum and Convention Center Board
- 51:22ZMM. Architects are also involved in this. Now here are the options as
- 51:27I understand them. And again, Jared, it's got a story posted about
- 51:30a WV Metro news dot com. You could fully renovate it for an estimated
- 51:34twenty five point four million dollars, or you could tear it down to build
- 51:37a new one for twenty five point two million dollars. Now, if they
- 51:44do build a new one, they say that it would be around fifty thousand
- 51:47square feet in size, and I saw some chatter online about it last night,
- 51:52both sides going back and forth on this as to what to do with
- 51:54it. It would be a shame because of that architecture of the Municipal Auditorium
- 51:58to have to I have to tear it down. So I am working on
- 52:01getting someone on the show next week to talk about the status as where we
- 52:07are now on the Municipal Auditorium. All right, gotta go. Thank you
- 52:10so much to Hannah Gardner from the Gnawa Charcy Main Association. Go and adopt
- 52:15Indy. INDI's picture posted on my social media pages love to get India Home.
