- 0:05SPEAKER_02: The playoffs had begun.
- 0:12SPEAKER_02: I guess I shouldn't make that noise.
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: I literally have it.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: Can you hear my air horn?
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Hey, honey, we'll go.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: Can't hear a snare in my headphones.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: I'm your host, Mike Wade.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: Co-host over there, Mike White.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: What's up, brother?
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: What is up, my man?
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: We are in full Christmas season.
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: We are ending the college football season.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: We're it's over.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: It went so fast.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: It went so fast.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: See, you I feel like you're living in a different universe than I.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm a second-class college football fan.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: You are in one of the 12 chosen elites.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, you have your whole the whole world ahead of you.
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: You're looking out.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: I'm looking forward to the Texas Bowl against Baylor, which nobody's gonna watch.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: Um, so you know, it's just a different world, uh, you and me.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: But I'm very happy for you.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: I'm very happy for you and your vols to get this.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: Um thank you.
- 1:10SPEAKER_03: Super, super psyched.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: And to be going to Columbus.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: I am through that.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: So that's I'm over the moon.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: That's the big piece of news.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: You want to tell our audience what's uh what what's what's going on?
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, two weeks, uh less than two weeks from now, your boy will be driving by myself uh to meet my buddies, Ian, Bellows, Craig in Columbus, Ohio to go to the shoe.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: I will be there, take it in hand.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: Have we have you have it's too far to see a weather forecast, right?
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: Have we seen that yet?
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be cold.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: I don't know if there's gonna be snow, but I'm I'm anticipating the coldest weather game that I've ever been to.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and we're actually gonna talk about uh cold weather games for SEC teams later in our in our bull predictions pod.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: Uh, but before we jump into that, well, one, that's amazing news.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: That's so exciting.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: I wish I could go with you.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: We're doing our shot, but I think if I I think if I hadn't sketched the holiday party, I would have been able to pull it off.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: But anyway, I will be there in spirit, obviously rooting all have my Vols gear on.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: I've now transitioned to a Vols Vols fan for this run for you, so I'm still very excited for that.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: But before we do that, let's do a quick check-in.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Um, obviously, we're post-Thanksgiving, we're in the Christmas rigmarole.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: How's your life been the last seven days since we chatted last?
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: Busy, but we've been good.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: You know, we all kind of had kind of sick here and there.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: Um, but we're doing lots of Christmas activities.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: We did a Santa train, which was awesome in Stanton.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: Uh the scenic, Scenic Railway.
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: Uh, that was really fun for the kids.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: But yeah, we're we're doing all the activities.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: How about you?
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, it's a lot of the same.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Uh, we are I just finished the um the birthday marathon.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: Um, my my two sons had their birthdays, and then my wife had her birthday all in the span of 14 days.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: So we're just kind of finished that.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: So we did some birthday stuff for fun.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: Uh, wifey's best friend from Maryland came down, uh, surprised her.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: That ruled.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: Uh, we did some Christmas stuff.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: We did the Bethlehem walk out in Goochland.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Have you seen this?
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Where that um that you've done that, yeah.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: The Baptist Church builds a fair pretty good, yeah.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: It was pretty sweet.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: I my favorite part was the Roman soldiers that were kind of rude, like walking through the crowds, like, get out of here, travelers.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: Um, so didn't that part kind of feel like you were like they were NPCs and you were playing Assassin's Creed?
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: A little bit, a little bit, and they and they do a good job, you know.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: They're doing the the they're doing the dances, and there's obviously the the live nativity is there, and the folks pounding on the on the um blacksmiths making uh screws.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: So the whole thing was like very immersive.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: They gave us a shekel to pay our travel tax.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: Like, no, I was uh got to pay, gotta pay the tax.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: Um, there's supposed to be a half shickle, it was a full shekel for us, but you know, it worked out in the end.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: Um, birth of Christ and all.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: So that was great.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: So very Christmassy over here as well.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: Uh, let's talk some big picture stuff.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: So uh the coaching carousel has begun.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: We're gonna see some more firings, but we're also starting to see some hirings.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: Uh frost Chris, uh Frost 2.0 at UCF.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: UCF going back 2.0, love that.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: Barry Odom to Purdue, who I think Barry Odam is pretty good coach.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: Um, there's a lot of smoke around Rich Rodriguez, maybe to West Virginia, another 2.0, which I'd be really excited about.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: Um, UCF and WVU did really well against Frost and uh with Frost and Rich Rod 1.0, so maybe run it back.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you're a WVU fan.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: Are you excited for Rich Rod?
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, he was he he did he did some good things.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: The landscape of college football has changed a lot, but um he did some good things, he's got a good offensive mind.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: The biggest eye-opening smoke is Bill Belichick potentially going to North Carolina.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: That's not really gonna happen, is it?
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: He supposedly he put out like an 800-page document to North Carolina, and all they have to do is agree, and he's he's on board.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: My question to you is does that work out?
- 4:56SPEAKER_03: I mean, we all know he's a good coach, but like with recruiting with NIL, how long he's been away from the game, his age, like does it is it a good thing?
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: So here's my opinion on that.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: So it's a ZAG for sure.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: It's you know, UNC is a middle-the-tier, as of right now, UNC is a middle-the-tier football program in a third or fourth best conference in college football.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: It's not exactly a Texas or an Ohio State, it's also not a bowling green or a Toledo.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: It's you know, right there in the middle, has seen some moderate success year to year, but not much.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: Why not shake it up?
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: Try something totally new and just see kind of what happens.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: The landscape of college football is rapidly changing.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: We're gonna see obviously the the the bill coming through Congress with the revenue sharing might be coming through.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Um, the the the playoff format's going to change again.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: Um, we might see some collective bargaining.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't know.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: UNC might not be in that bad position, they might not be in that good position either.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: But if I'm UNC, if I'm a UNC fan, if I'm a tar heel, I'm on board for this just because it's a zag, it's something new.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: Let's try it.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: He's arguably the greatest football coach of all time.
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: If I'm a fan, I'm I'm totally on board.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: A proven head coach who's won Super Bowls, he's gotten the name recognition, that's gonna pull recruits by itself.
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: I just don't know if he knows what he's signing up for.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: Like being a head coach in college football is a thousand times more taxing and a thousand times harder uh from a day-to-day standpoint than the NFL.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: I totally agree.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: And if he says he wants to do it, you know, he's he's he's he he likes younger people, he's got a younger girlfriend.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: So maybe this is like part of that.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: He's kind of finding his fountain of youth situation again.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: Midlife crisis, midlife, exactly.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: That's what I'm trying to say.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't know.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: If I'm a UNC fan, I'm on board.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: Will it work out?
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: It might.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: I'd be I'd be excited to uh see what it's an immediate headline, too.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, if nothing else, it's like it's almost yeah, it's almost like a d the Dion effect.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: And and and honestly, we were all out on the Dion effect, and the first year was four and eight, nine and three.
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: They were knocking on the door for the playoffs in the Big 12.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: Like that kind of worked out, and then it sounds like you know, the way he's recruited that USC quarterback, uh he's pulling recruits left and right, it looks like he might be doing it again.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: So, like, yeah, it's an outside the box strategy, I think.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: And it's not it is not a proven winner, it's not a talented OC to big school or a lower G5 head coach upgrading.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: It's a ZAG for sure.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: And will it work out?
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: I don't know, but as an impartial fan, I can't wait to find out.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: I hope he takes it.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: I hope he takes it.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: I hope he's in the I hope he is in Chapel Hill coaching football.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Um, all right, let's do a quick uh review of conference championship week.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Obviously, we saw and the playoff uh bracket came out, as we all know.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: Most of you have already really seen it and talked about it.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: I only have a couple things.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: Uh, one, I'll start with the ACC game.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: Dabbo is like a magician.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't know.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: He was on the hot seat.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: His transfer portal policy is nonsense.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: Uh, he got smoked.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm sorry, I didn't smoke.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: He lost convincingly to South Carolina, and now he's got a now he's in the playoff.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: Um, I just like you know he is sm smiling ear to ear in Clemson right now.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: If they beat Texas, the daboisms are going to be at through the roof for weeks to come.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: I think they've got a pretty good shot at beating Texas too.
- 8:15SPEAKER_03: Um, just riding high where they are right now.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, Clemson's resurgence not going away.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: Um they and and and looking back, I mean there's been a lot of talk about strength of schedule, but you know, they could have easily just been on that large bid had they not scheduled that Georgia game.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's true.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: That's that's that's a good point.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: Um, speaking of uh Texas, uh I kind of think Texas is gonna lose in the playoffs somewhere.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: I don't know if it's gonna be Clemson, I don't know if it's gonna be the next one.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: I think they're gonna lose a game, and I think it's because of Quinn Ewers.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: I think I'm out on him.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: He's been too inconsistent, he has had ample opportunity to prove he's the guy.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: I don't know if it's an unpopular opinion or not.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: I kind of think they should start Arch Manning against Clemson at home and see if he can make for this run.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: I don't think Ewers is an NFL draft pick this year.
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: I well, I think that was the preseason expectation.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: I think he's playing somewhere else in 2025 in college football.
- 9:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I have to know that that is too far off.
- 9:55SPEAKER_03: Um, uh we expected him to kind of take the next step after showing, you know, you when you see flashes, you expect the flashes to become more consistent and the inconsistencies to sort of fall off.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: And he's kind of stayed the same, and which is not what you want to see from a quarterback development standpoint.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I I kind of agree with you.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: Uh he may cost them.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: They can still lean on the run game, they can still lean on their defense.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I just think they're gonna need, I mean, this is the point of the season where, like, you know, it becomes, I mean, as we move work through this playoffs, when we get down to the final four, final two, even final eight, like we're talking about all good teams that are mostly complete teams.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: Nobody's perfect this year.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: This is a this is a very wide open year, which is great for everybody, but we're still talking about teams with talent everywhere.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: You're not just gonna be able to assert your dominance in one or two categories, which in a lot of games, college football, you can do exactly like you said.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: They have to be a complete team to win a national championship.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: Quinn yours isn't that.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: I'd like to see Arch Manning get in there, see if he can get some things, get a rhythm, see if he can get going.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: Um, but we'll see.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: Speaking of the Texas game, obviously they lost to Georgia for the second time this year.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: The headline out of that is um the Carson Beck injury, who's that looks like he's heard his UCL.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: There's I obviously the baseball people on Twitter talking, you know, acknowledging about how bad that is.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: And I'm I actually honestly take their word for it, they're probably right.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: Um, so let's go ahead and assume, although we don't know, and Georgia's been pretty mums the word for I think strategic reasons, not totally talk about it.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: Let's assume uh Carson Beck is out.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: Are you buying Gunnar Stockton?
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: I think I believe is his name.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Are you buying Gunnar Stockton being good enough to take Georgia's national championship?
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: Why not?
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, I don't have I don't have the the full picture.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: Obviously, I've seen him play, you know, a half of a football game, but I saw their game plan and that game plan is not gonna work uh to win you a national championship.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: If they did not win that game with a couple lucky bounces of the balls, you saw those late fumbles, had those gone the other way.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, they don't win that game.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: What happens?
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: What happens to their seating with an injured bet?
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: Like, do they give them the FSU treatment?
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: Is my question.
- 12:07SPEAKER_03: Uh thankfully that the the committee wasn't forced to make that call, but man, that would have been interesting to to see because that would have been apples to apples.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: Same situation.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Um, I don't think that they I don't think I don't like any team's chances with a backup quarterback thrust in the spotlight at this stage in the game.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I think you're right.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: I really was impressed with despite uh Texas's pretty quality run game and offensive line, they still had a handful.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: Georgia was still able to get the passer.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: You know, that what Georgia could do is Georgia could go on like an Eli Manning, New York Giants 2007 type run where that their defensive line is just locked, is just loading up six, seven, eight, nine sacks every game.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: They have the capacity to do that.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: And then if you know if Gunnar Stockton makes a handful of plays, like it could be possible, but they certainly don't see the inside track, and they're not the uh betting favorite anymore.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: It's now Oregon, and then Georgia, I think, is the second favorite right now.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: So, and even that, that's like plus 400.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: So betting on anybody in this country ball is a long shot, quote unquote.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: Like, there's nobody who seems to have inside track, so we'll see about Georgia.
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: Um moving over to uh the Big Ten title, hot take.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: Is that a preview of the national championship?
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: Are we gonna see Oregon?
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: What do you what are the chances we see Oregon Penn State play again?
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: I was impressed with Penn State, and I still believe Oregon, and they've got a great draw in the bracket, in the bracket, speaking of which, and I still think Oregon's the best team in the country.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: Any chance we see those teams run it back in Atlanta now championship?
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: I think we could.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, Oregon was always my one of my top picks.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: They're one of the they're they've looked like the best team in the country thus far.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: Penn State, even though they lost, got the quote unquote easiest draw, which I would probably tend to agree with.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: Um, I do agree with you.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: That was the best I've seen a Penn State team play.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, they had a chance to really get blown out and they responded.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: Um, they made big plays when they had to, they kept it close.
- 14:07SPEAKER_03: Oregon could not run and hide with it when they they had the opportunity to, and really the best coached game that I've seen James Franklin call.
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I don't know if that was a one-off or if that if they're surging at the right time.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: So uh that'll be interesting to watch.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: But yeah, they they certainly have an opportunity to run the table given their their their bracket.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and honestly, I mean I just I mean I I thought it was just uh Drew Laure's best game.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously, he had the two interceptions, one of them was kind of bad, the other one wasn't really his fault.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: And 51% completion completion pressure is great, but they threw the ball 40 times.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: They threw the ball down the field.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: He also rushed one in.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: He looked like he was composed, he looked like he knew what he was doing.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: Like it looked like Annie Colt Nicky had kind of got the offense going the way it was supposed to go, and they gave Oregon all they could handle.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: So, you know, you give me a Penn State team that can do that for two more weeks, and they're in the bracket with now a Georgia without their starting quarterback.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't know, man.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: Like, I this might be the year where James Franklin does string together the wins they're supposed to win.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: So um, we'll see.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: I'm uh I'm very interested.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: I think one thing I want to say before we move on is that I think if Oregon doesn't make it to or win a national championship, it's gonna be, and this is probably not that hot of a take, but it's gonna be their defense that lets them down.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: When you look at the big spots they've been in, I mean, you know, you look at Penn State's offense.
- 15:32SPEAKER_03: Oregon gave up 37 to them.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: When when Oregon played their other biggest game of the year, Ohio State, they gave up 31.
- 15:39SPEAKER_03: That was a, you know, they they're giving up a lot of yards through the air.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you can continue to to to kind of walk that line where you're relying on pure offense every game when you get to this level of competition week after week.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 15:53SPEAKER_03: But I think that's the that could be their their downfall, their Achilles heel.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: I absolutely agree.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: And you're leaving out Boise State, which they gave up 34 to in week two.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: And Boise State is a playoff team.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: So you're right.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: And all three of the playoff teams they've played this year, they have their defense has been pushed around and has had thrown shown some real vulnerability.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: So, no, I totally agree with you.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: I I really like Dylan Gabriel, Tez Johnson, Evan Stewart, like their offense is awesome.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: They're gonna get theirs.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: I think if Oregon does slip up, it's probably gonna be because their defense um can't can't keep up, can't stop them.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: But anyway, all right.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: Last uh last review I want to talk about before we jump in.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: Uh Tennessee finished with the nine seed.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: Is that correct?
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: I believe what they're against Ohio State.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: Is that what they're nine eight?
- 16:33SPEAKER_03: That's the um yeah, the bracketing, not the bracketing, yeah.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: Based on the seeding, not on the the ranking, whatever, whatever.
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: Gotten at large bid, finished number three team in the SEC.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: Has this team, has this season met your expectations, exceeded expectations, fall below expectations?
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: If the season were to end on Saturday on two Saturdays now and they lose to Columbus, and I don't know what 24-21 type game.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: Where are you grading Tennessee?
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: Are you you know the the Vegas win total is eight and a half?
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: They obviously exceeded that 10 and 2.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: Give me your are you playing with house money right now?
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Are you expecting another win?
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: Like where are you at?
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: Uh I think you know, this was the expectation, but I'm happy with the expectation.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: You know, this was not the year I think that we all thought, especially as we watched uh the season play out, that this was it's it's it's almost felt like we've over overachieved given the way the style of play.
- 17:32SPEAKER_03: Um, but that's a good thing.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: I still don't think Tennessee's played their best football game.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: They still haven't played their most complete football game uh all year, and the offense is getting better.
- 17:39SPEAKER_03: Nico's improving week to week.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: I think it's been an excellent job by the coaching staff to manage the um deficiencies that that they have and to work around some of the things as as they kind of grow and develop a new quarterback.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, I think but given where we are now, I'm extremely happy, thrilled.
- 17:58SPEAKER_03: We could lose at Ohio State.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: I would still be happy.
- 18:02SPEAKER_03: It's been a great season.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: Um, but I also still think we've yet to reach our full potential and that we could go into Ohio State.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, Nico has been excellent these last few games.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: The defense is still there, the running game is still there.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, I still think we have the potential to win a national championship.
- 18:20SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: So obviously, we're seven Tennessee is a seven and a half point dog in Columbus uh in 10 days.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: Uh so I want to dig into you really quick about what you said about having played the best game, having the most complete.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: I really obviously I think what I think you're saying is everything hitting because sometimes the run game plays well, defense steps back, Nico has a great game, Dylan Samson doesn't, blah, blah, blah.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Like complete game is everybody kind of hitting it.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: If there's a certain unit that you could see really make a leap, like really like, oh, they've played good, but they have it in them to do this.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: Like the secondary, Nico, pass protection.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: Like, where is the biggest room for potential growth left?
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: Going into game 13 for the Vols, where could you see that big uh big improvement?
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: It's just really down the field playmaking, splash play, um, you know, yeah, wide receivers on the outside, um, making a play when it's not there, or Nico hitting a ball that um, you know, a deep ball at the right moment.
- 19:19SPEAKER_03: That's the biggest thing.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: You if if they can connect on a couple of those um a game, and I know that's everybody, right?
- 19:27SPEAKER_03: But that's been a particular flaw with this team.
- 19:30SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, you wait for that perfect time to dial up the big play, and you got a guy wide open, you got to hit him.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: It's not like we're throwing up 50-50 balls.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, we hit on a couple of those, we connect the dots there.
- 19:42SPEAKER_03: Um, we can beat anybody.
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: I mean, with the way the defense is playing, the secondary has been Jerm McCoy should, he's a second-team SEC uh uh SEC player, but he really should have been first team, potentially in all America.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: He's been maybe the most surprising best player of the year, uh most impact, one of the most impactful players of the year for us uh at cornerback.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I think the sky's still the limit for this team if they can find click a couple gears higher on offense.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: No, I think that's pointed to because I think it's important to remember for a lot of vol fans, like with Hypel's offense, Win's working at its best.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think about we think about the Hen and Hooker Jalen Hyatt version.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: It was exactly that.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: Like you were running the bejesus out of the ball, playing good defense, and every now and then Hen and Hooker could take the top off.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: And that's been there in spots this year, but it has not consistently been there like it was in 2022 for the Vol.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: So, no, I think you're absolutely right.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: And I think obviously, point well taken, yeah, every team could use more splash plays, but this Vols team is designed to run the ball to open up those plays, and they just haven't really clicked in the way that we you want them to be.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: They've been there, and I'm not saying chances have been there.
- 20:46SPEAKER_03: It's not like we need like they haven't been there.
- 20:49SPEAKER_03: It's that we've had guys wide open, a couple guys a game, and just miss them, just haven't connected on them for whatever reason.
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: So yeah, uh, it's not like that, it's a stretch.
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: So we're every Tennessee fan is still waiting for that.
- 21:00SPEAKER_03: Uh Dylan Sampson's had one of the most underrated seasons of anybody in college football, over 1400 yards, 22 touchdowns, uh, leading the SEC.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: Um, so he's been consistent all year long.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: He could easily go for a buck 40 uh in Columbus, and all we need Nico to do is make a couple big plays.
- 21:17SPEAKER_03: The defense is gonna play well.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: Ohio State's offensive line, very questionable.
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: Um, so getting ahead of myself, but yeah, feeling good about the potential here.
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: Very cool.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: All right, let's uh go ahead and jump into the next segment.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: So, this is uh one of my favorite things about the podcast.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: In August, Mike and I made a tremendous amount of takes.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: We call the bold prediction pod.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: You can go back and listen to it on if you want to.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: Um, what we're gonna do is we're going to debrief all these takes we had back in August, looking ahead at the whole season.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: Some things we absolutely nailed, some things not so much.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna have a little fun kind of unpacking it.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Uh, we'll go one for one.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: So, starting with um, I'll start with some of my bold predictions and we'll kind of work them through the actual conference stuff.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: Uh, number one, I told a story in August about Anders being a gator.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Uh, Mike correctly pointed out, Anders will get in your face if you lose that game.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: Sure enough, we did.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Anders is a gator, he owns me.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: That was a tough loss.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: Uh, so thanks again for that.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: Um, bold prediction number one Dabo is going to be in the hot seat after this season, really just because of the transfer position, it's a hill he's going to eventually die on.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: So obviously he's going to playoff and they won the ACC.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: If Miami ha so here's what I think about this take.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: I think I was just a little early on this.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: Uh if Miami doesn't blow it at Syracuse, Clemson doesn't make the ACC championship, their last doesn't make the playoff, and their last game is the loss.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: To their rival, you might be having a hot seat conversation.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: If Dabble doesn't win the ACC in their last game of South Carolina and they're 9-3, I don't was that was that a bad take?
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: Was that a fortuitous bounce by Miami Syracuse?
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: What do you got?
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: No, I don't think I don't think so because the level he's built a level of expectations up to a point where you know you don't get to the playoff every year, especially now that it's expanded, um, you're gonna be questioned.
- 23:06SPEAKER_03: And when you make um a strategic decision to not take advantage of something that everybody in the country is doing to plug in holes in their lineups, um, people are gonna question that.
- 23:17SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, anytime he loses, and if they have a down year, he's basically pre-lit the fire for criticism.
- 23:26SPEAKER_03: So no, I don't I don't think that was too far off because I think we're ever so close to that actually happening.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I agree.
- 23:34SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm gonna do we both had Heisman takes.
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna do them both at the same time.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: Mine was a defensive player, uh, will be invited to New York, and yours was a non-quarterback will win the Heisman, probably a running back.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: I mentioned James Pierce, uh, the uh Tennessee defensive end.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: Obviously, it didn't work out for him that, but he had a nice year.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: Uh Travis Hunter is absolutely that guy.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: And you said running back, you said Ollie Gordon.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: Not Oli Gordon, but Ashton Genty will a thousand percent go.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: And any other year, he is the guy.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: So I kind of think we were not right, but not wrong either on our Heisman takes.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: I think both still good takes.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: Um, and definitely bold predictions given the history of the Heisman.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: So I like where we are.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: Give us a firm pat on the on the butt for that.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: The Big 12 will have the top five QBs of all the conferences.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: And at the time, I said Shadur Sanders, KJ Jefferson, Jalen Daniels, Noah Fafita, and Cam Rising.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: Shadur Sanders live up the billing.
- 24:31SPEAKER_02: Jalen Daniels had an up and down season, end the season really strong.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: The other three were terrible.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: Um, so now you could replace these guys with Sam Levitt, uh, Jake Retzlaff, um, uh Rocco Becht.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: So the Big 12, I don't, I don't know.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: Was this a bad take?
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: Which conference had the best quarterback play this year?
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: I I guess it's probably the SEC.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 24:52SPEAKER_03: It's probably uh a shared title between the Big 12 and the SEC when you look at what Nussmeyer, Carson Beck did, uh Junkson Dart, obviously.
- 25:01SPEAKER_03: Lenore Sellers pretty spread out.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: It wasn't it wasn't um a good year for quarterbacks just lighting things up.
- 25:08SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, Cam Ward, obviously there, Shadow Sanders there, but yeah.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, is this if you're if you're an NFL franchise looking for a quarterback this year, it's gonna be tough.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: I think this is a slim pickings year versus other years, and so but we'll see how that goes out.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: We're getting ahead of ourselves.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: So I don't know if that was a bad take.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: I don't think it was accurate, but it was a way off in the Big 12.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: It was all the wrong quarterbacks.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: I will say that's who I highlighted, but I mean that's that was classic Big 12 this year.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: Poor cam rising.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, poor cam rising.
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: And no Fafita's transferring, he's leaving Arizona, and so is KJ Jefferson.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: So anyway, uh Bobby Petrino, you're Arkansas uh uh sorry.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: Bobby Petrino was getting rehired as Arkansas's head coach uh because Sam Pittman's gonna get fired first 14 years after motorcycle gate.
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: Just didn't happen.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: Uh so Arkansas is this weird spot where like they didn't lose enough to fire Pittman, but they didn't win enough to retain all their talent.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: So like Arkansas's kind of a no-win spot.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: They still have Bob Petrino staff, um, but obviously he's not the head coach, so bad take.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: Bad swing and a miss.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Swing and a miss.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: Um, Ali Gordon is winning the Heisman after running for 2,500 yards.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: The ghost of former Oakie State, great Barry Sanders is coming back.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Um Ali Gordon bombed this year.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: Just this year.
- 26:24SPEAKER_03: And so did Oklahoma State.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: And I put this directly on the players there and and Coach Gundy because this is a completely reasonable take, and I accept no shame or blame for any of this.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I agree.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: Uh, the Hokies will be undefeated going into week nine, hosting Clemson.
- 26:44SPEAKER_03: Again, that was your take, right?
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: But I but we both were high on the Hokies, and I refuse to back off of that take.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: Terrible coaching job in a wide open ACC with a completely manageable schedule, and they pulled down their pants and they took a big poop in the bed.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: And so I'm not gonna back off that take.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: That's a that's a shame.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: Shame on you, Hokies.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: All right, my last one was a Virginia school will make the playoff.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: I was obviously thinking about Liberty in the back of my mind, um, and didn't happen.
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: So Liberty went eight and four.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: They didn't even make the CUSA championship game.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: And obviously, the Hokies went six and six, you gave five and seven.
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: Jamie didn't really challenge the Sun Belt, so there was no Virginia school in the playoffs.
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: So that was obviously a very bold take.
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: Very bold take, didn't work out.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: All right, Mike's three takes.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: We already talked about the SEC, the SEC one.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: You said a non-QB was gonna win the Heisman.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: You're absolutely right.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: It's going to be Travis John, Travis Hunter or Ashton Genty, probably Travis Hunter.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: I think you predicted a running back, Ollie Gordon, but it will be a non, this will be the year non-quarterback wins.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: So touch off the back, you could take for that.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: Take number two of yours.
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: Five SEC teams will make the playoff.
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna say it.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: If we're going to rank the top 12 teams in the country, five of them are SEC teams.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: Alabama and Ole Miss, and maybe South Carolina are probably all there.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: Um, they didn't didn't happen.
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: And we said if it wasn't gonna happen, they were gonna cannibalize themselves.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: It's exactly what happened.
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: Um go ahead.
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: And if if the ponies of um SMU SMU beat Clemson, Clemson's out, and Bama is in, and then you've got four so yeah, you've got four, so not too far off.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: No, and really it was just that one week of that when when AM lost, Ole Miss lost, and Alabama lost.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: Like if that week doesn't happen, and you're no then and Tennessee's that Tennessee is in that mix of three, four, five, six.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: I think that I think your prophecy does happen, maybe at least four for sure.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: But then we're having a conversation about the three SEC, the four SEC teams, and then potentially a fifth uh uh bumping out Indiana.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: Um, but I don't see that didn't happen.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: Uh so I don't think that was bold take.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Bold take, but it wasn't that bad.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: And your last one, Liberty will go undefeated and get left out of the playoff.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: Liberty went eight and four or eight and three.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: So they were not very good, but they did get left out.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: So I'll give you half half credit for that.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: All right, very cool.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: So those are bold predictions.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about our conference picks.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: Uh, I had uh Georgia and Ole Miss, the winner being Georgia, you had Georgia, Texas, Texas being the winner.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: So both half right.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: I picked the right winner, but you picked both of the correct participants.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: So could work.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, especially in a chaotic SEC this year.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: Uh Big Ten.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: Uh, I had Oregon against Michigan, Oregon being the winner.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: You had Oregon against Ohio State, Oregon winning.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: So we both had this, we both had it exactly the same.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: We both picked one of the two correct uh participants, and we both picked the best best winner.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: So uh you know, I'll give that half mostly credit on that.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: Pretty good.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: Uh Big 12.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: This is ugly.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: Um, Big 12.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: I had Utah against Oklahoma State, maybe the two worst teams in the Big 12, Utah being the winner.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: You had Kansas against Utah, Utah being the winner.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, Big 12 is just being on brand, just being Big 12 things.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, mixing it up.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: Good thing 12.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: Love to see it.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: We're gonna love to see it.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: Uh ACC was almost just as bad.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: Uh, my ACC championship was Miami, Virginia Tech, Miami winning.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: Yours was NC State, Virginia Tech, NC State winning.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, we really liked our hookies.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: I went I went a little hard in the paint on this one, and um, yeah, that was just a bad dumb take.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: NC State was god-awful this year.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: I don't know why, I don't know where that came from.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: They were good last year, had some good talent injected, and again, um, you know, too much, too much respect for the hokies.
- 30:47SPEAKER_03: I really, I just don't understand it.
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: I look, I told I said this to you the other day, like looking back, it just makes it worse.
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: Like the fact that they very easily could have been playing for an ACC championship and just didn't.
- 31:01unknown: Yep.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: Sure didn't happen, didn't even close.
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: Um, our both of our national championships picks are still alive.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: I picked Georgia, you picked Oregon.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: I think you are sitting in a slightly better position than I, but you know, we're both still live in that regard.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, one of us will win that.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: Although Cennessee wins, obviously, but want to win that.
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know what I mean.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean.
- 31:19SPEAKER_03: Gladly not win that.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: Gladly not win that, obviously.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: But um, Oregon and Georgia both being live, so that's pretty good.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, G5 playoff spot.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: I correctly boom picked uh Boise State.
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: I almost picked South Florida, which would have been a horrendously bad take.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: But I did pick Boise State correctly.
- 31:34SPEAKER_02: You took Memphis.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Memphis was good.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: Uh defense let them down against uh Navy in a couple spots, but they were right there in the AAC.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: Um, easily could have done it.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: Uh uh Memphis, I think was Seth Hennigan.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: Good offense.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: Uh good picks.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, go on Boise.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: Uh Heisman.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: Uh we both this is ugly.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: Uh we did was we both picked uh kind of a top five, top ten Heisman odds winner, and then we both picked a long shot.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: Um, my uh my favorite was Carson Beck.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: Obviously, he's nowhere near that.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: He might even come back to college football next year.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: He's not even remotely close to Heisman, and then my long shot was Ollie Gordon.
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: Ollie Gordon, bottomed out, Okie State, whole thing a disaster.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: Just tough.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: Uh, Mike, you picked Dylan to disappoint Dylan Gabriel.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: He's at least um getting invited to New York.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: So you at least, your guy at least got there.
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: I'm pretty sure he's gonna finish fourth of four in those of those of the three gentlemen, but at least there.
- 32:31SPEAKER_02: And your long shot was Trevion Henderson.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: The Ohio State run game just didn't it didn't materialize we thought it would this year.
- 32:38SPEAKER_03: They've had a lot of offensive line issues and they've had some injuries, and uh they continue to shuffle guys around, hoping to find a little more run game, a little more protection.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, that is one reason uh run game hasn't been there for them.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: Uh so moving on.
- 32:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, one of our favorite things we talk about every year is the top 10 preseason to unranked postseason, and then unranked to top 10.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: Every year, the last 30 years, at least one or team, two teams have done it.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, my top 10 to unranked was Alabama, swing and a miss.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: They're like top 12 or 13, still very good.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: Yours was Penn State.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: Penn State's actually also top 10.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: The correct answers were Florida State and Michigan.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: So two teams that were preseason top 10 both finished unranked, both missed that one.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: Uh, anything on Alabama, Penn State, Florida State, or Michigan?
- 33:25SPEAKER_03: I don't think anybody saw the collapses uh at Florida State.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: I could, I think, you know, reasonably I expected some step back for Michigan, but both of those were eye-openers.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and honestly, Michigan had a pretty tough schedule.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: Like you could you could easily see, I mean, seven and five is worse than we thought, especially the way they did it, losing to Illinois and beating Ohio State.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: But eight and four, nine and three was you could see that for Michigan given what happened with natural year before.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: Uh, unranked to top ten, we just forgot to do this.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: Um, I picked SMU, which I feel good about because they finished 12th.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: Um, but the correct answers there were three of them this year: Indiana, Boise State, and Arizona State were your three teams that were unranked to top 10.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: I think you just we and that we forgot to.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: Do you want to tell us what you were gonna pick in August?
- 34:09SPEAKER_02: Do you remember?
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: No, I don't, I don't that's such a tough one.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: It's such like who's the Cinderella this year.
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: I I might have said Kansas, um something like that, but yeah, I think Indiana, Boise, uh Arizona State, all just amazing stories this year, Colorado State.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: You could add to that, although they didn't crack the top 10, but um right there.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yep.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: Uh oh, so this is not really a bold prediction, but we talked about this.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: It was kind of a thing that might happen.
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: So, and then sure enough, it's happening, it's happening to your team.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: We said, what is it going to look like for a team from the south to go to the north for a playoff game?
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: Sure enough, that is the Vols going to Columbus.
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: And we even specifically said South Bend, Happy Valley, or Columbus, and we singled out LSU and Tennessee, obviously, because there are teams, but we easily could have said that about Georgia or South Carolina or Ole Miss.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: Like, here we are.
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so nailed that.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: We nailed that.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: Um, now your team is in that spot.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna see, you know, like the narrative I fully expect to get really dialed up next week is going to be like, oh, can the can the boys from the south can they are they used to the harsh Ohio winters?
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: And like that's gonna be a real narrative, and I'm sure it probably contributed a little bit to the point spread.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: So maybe Tennessee can hush the haters and take the the warm weather that is Knoxville, you know, the tropical paradise.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
- 35:31SPEAKER_03: Then I'm gonna address that right now because when you look at the weather in Columbus and the weather in Knoxville, it's not all that different.
- 35:38SPEAKER_03: It is 34 in Knoxville right now, it is 31 in Columbus.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: So this would be a big difference if you're talking about like you know, the guys in from Gainesville traveling to yeah, but this is you know, Knoxville gets cold.
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: It's it's not that different from from Columbus.
- 35:59SPEAKER_03: So uh I'm not expecting a huge impact on uh on our boys.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh, I'm neither am I, but it is going to be interesting.
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: Um uh to see it will be a storyline.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: You are absolutely a storyline, absolutely, which is a shame the playoff is kind of.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, this is another reason why it's so sad that the playoff uh home games are ending after this round because the cold weather games are cool.
- 36:21SPEAKER_02: Football's a cold weather sport, so um, it's a bummer that we're only gonna get four, but then the rest of them are in neutral sites or in beautiful like Southern California or Arizona, Florida.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: So, like, you know, domes, that sort of thing.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: Anyway, uh, all right, coaches.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: Uh, we made picks for who is going to be the first fired and who's gonna play themselves off the hot seat.
- 36:39SPEAKER_02: We both did okay.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: Both of us picked Dave Aranda to get himself off the hot seat, nailed that.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: Dave Aranda had a great finish strong, eight and four, had a nice season.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: They're very well might beat my tigers in the Texas Bowl, finish nine and four.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: Your first fired was Billy Napier.
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: He's obviously safe for a bit longer, finishing strong seven or five.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: Surged, surged.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: It looks really good.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: Made it to the bowl.
- 37:01SPEAKER_02: Mine was Sam Pittman.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: Also, Arkansas was not great, but um, not good enough.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: I am going to say, so here was my list.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: Here was my list of team of coaches that I said to you, I was like, tell me who's gonna be the hot seat, who's gonna play blah blah blah.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: Dave Aranda, Billy Napier, Tony Elliott UVA, which I think we was gonna get another year.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: Uh Sam Pittman, Clark Lee at Vandy.
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: Nobody expected Vandy to be bowl eligible.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: Obviously, he's not going anywhere.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: Justin Wilkins.
- 37:26SPEAKER_02: I picked him in our preseason over-under.
- 37:28SPEAKER_03: Uh over on Vandy.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: Did you?
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: That was one of my like, you always take the over on Vandy because every year it's like two and a half wins.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: So Justin Wilcox at Cal, who actually had some life this year.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: They were pretty good.
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: The Calgarythm was a really fun storyline.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: And number seven, which I was half joking about, and you called me an idiot for saying this, was Ryan Day.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: Ryan Day was the number seven coach that I picked, and you said you said it was overblown.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: And remember, I gave you the video game take about how Ryan Day is the guy who has like Vic or uh Bo Jackson and Tech Mobile, has everything, but he still stinks.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: If he loses, and we said this listened to the last podcast.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: If Ryan Day loses to Tennessee as a seven and a half point favorite, two back-to-back home wins as massive favorites, he's fired.
- 38:14SPEAKER_02: He's fired, right?
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: I see we talked about it last week, and I'm still not, I still don't know.
- 38:19SPEAKER_03: I'm still not quite there.
- 38:20SPEAKER_03: Um, because I don't know where you go from there if you're Ohio State.
- 38:24SPEAKER_03: Um, and you know what you're worried about is the wheels falling off.
- 38:27SPEAKER_03: You've got a guy who's who's taken you right up to uh the point of a national championship.
- 38:33SPEAKER_03: Um, what you don't want to do is make a change and lose it all, especially in the transfer era.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: Um, so I I'm not there.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: I'm not there yet.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: Well, I think the Vols are gonna win, and I think Ryan Day's getting fired.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: And I think that is actually going to be, we'll find out in two weeks.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: But I think that's actually gonna be my best prediction in August is Ryan Day getting fired.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Love to see it.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Love to see it losing to Michigan, like god, just unbelievable.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: All right, last thing we did a little special section for the homers.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: We picked the overunder on win totals uh on our four homer teams.
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: Uh, first one LSU nine and a half choose to the under.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: We both correctly picked the under.
- 39:07SPEAKER_02: Too much inconsistency, too much of a drop-off between Brian Thomas neighbor bleak neighbors and uh Jaden Daniels.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: Still bullish us long term, but you know, eight and four.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: It's not about what Vegas thought we might be.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: You know, nine and three, maybe the USC game, but you know, about right.
- 39:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: I think uh for me, I had questions about the defense.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: Um, I didn't question the running game as much as I did, but definitely you drop off the quarterback position, although Nessmeyer played very well.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: He played, he looked really good.
- 39:36SPEAKER_02: So yeah, the defense did not improve enough in the running game.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: The offensive line, which is supposed to be a real anchor for this team, just obviously in pass protection was really good.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: Running run blocking just was not there this year.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: So anyway, eight and four.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: Uh Tennessee, uh eight and five, juice to the over.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: We both correctly picked at the over, went a game and a half over their win total.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: Um, I think Vegas was expecting nine and three, got to ten and two.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: Well done.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: Nice pick, Mike on the Vols.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: Uh, any any anything else you want to add to that?
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: No, it wasn't the we got we got there at a different path than I expected, but um, very pleasantly surprised uh with this year's team.
- 40:12SPEAKER_03: And um, yeah, more to come.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: Excited.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: Double digit regular season win totals is nothing to sneeze at.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: It's always uh it always feels good to get that.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: Uh UVA, four and a half.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: Um, and we both correctly picked the over.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: You in fact said exactly five.
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: So kudos to you for predicting five and seven, which you exactly nailed.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: I'm bummed out because they had a lot of chances to get to that that that that benchmark, that six and six, that poll eligibility.
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: Um, and uh needless to say, it uh didn't work out.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: So disappointing, uh still disappointing number, even though they hit the over, still disappointed in uh in their performance, uh, just like the hookies.
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, which we're gonna get to right now.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: That one was seven and a half, moved to eight and a half.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: You and I both rode the wave, took the over, um, both whiffed horrifically on the Vandy take, which was a week one game that they lost double overtime at Vanderbilt.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: Eight and a half was a win total.
- 41:03SPEAKER_02: They finished with six, six and six.
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: They they were the of the relative to preseason expectation of the homers, they were the most disappointing team this year.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, I'm I I don't uh just and then just to summarize kind of my tech takes.
- 41:20SPEAKER_02: Um, I still like Pry.
- 41:22SPEAKER_02: I still like they're doing, I like their their identity on offense.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: Um, it's just a weird year.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: Like things didn't work out.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: Like the Syracuse game was they were up by 21 the third quarter.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: The double overtime loss to Vandy, the ruckers lost, the Hail Mary situation.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: Like, as bad as it was and disappointing as it was, like they were like three bad bounces away from being 10 and 2.
- 41:43SPEAKER_02: So I get that.
- 41:45SPEAKER_03: And I was right there with you all season until I looked back and you know, I see these coaches, good coaches, find ways to win those close games.
- 41:54SPEAKER_03: And you don't win them all, but you also don't lose them all if you're a good coach.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: Like, I feel like my take has has soured on him at the further we've gotten from from the regular season.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah because we when you think about like think about like Scott Frost at Nebraska, think about some of these guys that you know just couldn't get get over the hump in in these close games, they typically do not pan out when you've got a good coach in there and and equal to better talent, which they lost a lot of games where they were on paper as good, if not better, than than their opponents.
- 42:29SPEAKER_03: Like that tells me it's on the coaching.
- 42:31SPEAKER_03: So I'm not gonna beat it to death, and we'll see next year.
- 42:34SPEAKER_03: But um, I'm starting to turn.
- 42:36SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm starting to turn on them.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm um, I think it's well said.
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: I think I agree.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: I still like pry.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: I think I don't think you do make a move this year.
- 42:44SPEAKER_02: I think you give it one more season.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: I think you can kind of see how you can get it yeah, you know, obviously beating your in-state rival helps.
- 42:50SPEAKER_02: Getting a bowl win would be really, really nice for them.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: I think they're playing Minnesota um as four-point dogs in that game, which we'll talk about um next time we do a podcast.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: But um, you know, they could still end on a high note.
- 43:00SPEAKER_02: They also had some bad injury luck down the stretch with Kyron Jones and Bashalton.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: They're two best players.
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: Um, but it's got to get better.
- 43:07SPEAKER_02: Six and six is, I know Virginia Tech is not, you know, they are not a Alabama or Georgia of the world, but they're not six and six either.
- 43:15SPEAKER_02: So I think they need better, and I think Pry's got to get one more shot doing that.
- 43:18SPEAKER_02: Uh, last thing on the bull prediction segment.
- 43:20SPEAKER_02: Um, I had my four favorite teams uh that I that I was predicting win totals for uh Oklahoma State seven and a half, Nebraska seven and a half, Virginia Tech seven and a half, Auburn seven and a half.
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: I called the over on all four, and all four went under.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: They all sucked.
- 43:34SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I don't like any of those takes.
- 43:36SPEAKER_02: Uh Auburn Tech, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State all fell woefully below expectations.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: You want to dunk it?
- 43:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't blame you for that.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: Um, Oklahoma had some head scratching, um, you know, losses.
- 43:48SPEAKER_03: Their quarterback position definitely didn't pan out.
- 43:50SPEAKER_03: Their defense was was solid.
- 43:51SPEAKER_03: Um, Nebraska, we expected to be good.
- 43:53SPEAKER_03: Virginia Tech, we expected to be really good.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: Auburn was a little bit of a questionable one.
- 43:58SPEAKER_03: Um, and they just turn the ball over too much.
- 44:02SPEAKER_03: Can't do that.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: So um, I don't hate you for these takes.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna dunk on you for it, um, but I'll leave that to our listeners.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: Good.
- 44:09SPEAKER_02: All right, last thing.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: All right, let's go ahead and jump in.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna we're gonna do five quick picks.
- 44:13SPEAKER_02: We're gonna do the Army Navy game and the four playoff games.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: Uh, just to give you an expectation.
- 44:16SPEAKER_02: We're not doing a podcast next week, so we have to jump kind of ahead.
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna keep it rolling.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: Uh, the Army Navy game is this week, it's the annual tradition, it's the only game of college football.
- 44:25SPEAKER_02: It's a neutral site game.
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: This game is in Northwest Stadium, which is the new uh FedEx field, Landover, Maryland.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: Uh, Army is a six and a half point favorite.
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: Over under is 37 and a half.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: I'm just playing the under.
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: I just always play the under.
- 44:37SPEAKER_02: That's the only thing I only play.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: Give me your.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: Uh Army Navy takes uh at the end of there, but also like Army.
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: Um, Army's been solid all year.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: I know they squeaked out a close one uh against Navy early in the season.
- 44:49SPEAKER_03: Um, but army has continued to look consistent and continued to look good.
- 44:52SPEAKER_03: Uh I'm sorry, they didn't that was um I misspoke.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, I I like regardless, I like Army here.
- 44:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh they're they're they're just simply better.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: All right, cool.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: We're gonna quickly preview the four playoff games, uh, because that's what the those are the next four really meaningful games before we do our next podcast.
- 45:09SPEAKER_02: Starting on Friday night, eight o'clock on ABC, uh, number 10, Indiana, number seven, uh, Notre Dame.
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: This game is in South Bend.
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: Uh Notre Dame is seven and a half point favorites.
- 45:19SPEAKER_02: Over under is 50 and a half.
- 45:21SPEAKER_02: Uh, what do you think?
- 45:24SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't know.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: Are you thinking under on this again?
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be, I think it's gonna be cold.
- 45:29SPEAKER_02: I think there's gonna be a slowdown game.
- 45:31SPEAKER_02: I don't think either team particularly wants to play fast.
- 45:34SPEAKER_02: Um, so I kind of like the I think 15 and a half is a big number for this kind of matchup.
- 45:38SPEAKER_02: So I'm thinking under here as well.
- 45:40SPEAKER_02: I don't know if no, I think no name's gonna win.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: I don't know if they're gonna cover.
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: I mean, Kirk Signetti is a crafty coach.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: I think he's gonna play his team competitively.
- 45:48SPEAKER_02: So you could talk me into them spreading, but I do like the under the play I like the most in this one.
- 45:53SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 45:53SPEAKER_03: I don't know really what to expect out of Indiana.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: This will be only uh really the second time they've gone up against like legit talent.
- 46:01SPEAKER_03: Um, so you know, do we see that same stall that we saw against Ohio State?
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: Um matches up pretty well on defense, especially in the secondary with what Indiana wants to do.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I like a I like a defensive, defensive battle here.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: Very good.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: All right, uh we'll take the under on that one as well.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: Uh Penn State, uh SMU, number 11, SMU, number six, Penn State and Beaver Stadium, University of Park, Pennsylvania.
- 46:24SPEAKER_02: Penn State is a eight and a half point favorite.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: Uh, over under is 53 and a half.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: I could go a couple ways with this.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: I could do one of either either one.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: Like one, I could take Penn State, I can lay the points.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: I kind of think Penn State is much better than SMU.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: And I kind of think the physicality they're gonna play with, the home crowd.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: I think it's gonna be tough for Kevin Jennings to do the things he's really good at.
- 46:45SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think the physicality is just I think it's gonna overwhelm them.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: I could also play the under again.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: I could play three unders so far.
- 46:51SPEAKER_02: Um, 53 and a half is a big number.
- 46:54SPEAKER_02: They're gonna want to go fast, and Penn State's not gonna let them.
- 46:57SPEAKER_02: And I don't, and Penn State, despite what they did last week against Oregon, because I think they I feel like they had to get in a track meet to play Oregon's football.
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: They don't have to do this against SMU.
- 47:05SPEAKER_02: This could be a Nick Singleton, Katron Allen, pound the ball, feed the ball, Tyler Warren, some short stuff, keep the chains moving type game, keep SMU's offense on the sideline.
- 47:15SPEAKER_02: I like go well.
- 47:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I got like Penn State to cover or the under.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: Which one do you like more?
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: Or neither.
- 47:20SPEAKER_03: I like both of those two.
- 47:21SPEAKER_03: I think Penn State is more talented.
- 47:23SPEAKER_03: I think uh I might have a little more question on the outcome of this.
- 47:27SPEAKER_03: Had I just not watched them play their best game uh of the season by far.
- 47:31SPEAKER_03: So potentially surging at the right time.
- 47:33SPEAKER_03: Uh, I like Penn State to cover.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: All right, let's do that.
- 47:36SPEAKER_02: We already did two under, so let's mix up a little bit.
- 47:37SPEAKER_02: We're taking Penn State minus eight and a half.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: All right, uh, two more.
- 47:40SPEAKER_02: Uh number 12, Clemson at number five, Texas games at Dokewalker, DKR same, excuse me.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: Um, in Austin, uh, Texas is a 11-point favorite.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: Spread is 51.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, sorry, total is 51 and a half.
- 47:52SPEAKER_02: Isn't this just a classic game where Dabo is gonna do something weird and keep it interesting?
- 47:57SPEAKER_02: Like this.
- 47:59SPEAKER_03: I don't think this is a double-digit win for Texas.
- 48:02SPEAKER_03: Give me Clemson.
- 48:03SPEAKER_02: Clemson plus 11.
- 48:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just I'm not gonna overthink it either.
- 48:05SPEAKER_02: That's a lot of points.
- 48:07SPEAKER_02: Dabo has talented roster on this team.
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: Clay Klubnik actually looks pretty good.
- 48:11SPEAKER_02: He's now played well in four straight games.
- 48:14SPEAKER_02: Texas is better.
- 48:15SPEAKER_02: I think Texas will win, but Quinn Ewers throwing another bad pick or two, bringing Arch Manning in those packages where they know they're gonna run the ball and not throw it, they're gonna stop those.
- 48:23SPEAKER_02: Like Clemson's gonna find a way.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: This is just a weird spot.
- 48:27SPEAKER_02: I don't think they win, but Clemson Clemson finds a way.
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: Let's do Clemson uh Clemson plus 11.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: All right, very cool.
- 48:36SPEAKER_02: All right, and final game, the game.
- 48:39SPEAKER_02: Number nine, Tennessee at number eight, Ohio State.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: Game is in Columbus.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: Spread is seven and a half, so it's moved a half point away a few, unfortunately.
- 48:48SPEAKER_02: Spread is uh total, sorry, over under is 47.
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: This is you, man.
- 48:53SPEAKER_02: You you leave you what where is your heart leading you, sir?
- 48:58SPEAKER_03: Um, my heart leads me to Tennessee's front seven against Ohio State's banged up, bruised, battered, and pieced together offensive line.
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: I think they've got weapons on the outside, but I think our corners are good enough to hold up uh where we can bring some pressure.
- 49:14SPEAKER_03: I don't think that they can consistently run the ball against us.
- 49:17SPEAKER_03: I think this is a low-scoring, defensive grudge match.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: I think you know, Tennessee hopes to hit a couple shots over the top.
- 49:24SPEAKER_03: Give me the balls to win.
- 49:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm just gonna do it.
- 49:27SPEAKER_02: I don't, you know, this is a spot where we responsibly probably should take the spread, but the hell with it.
- 49:31SPEAKER_02: Playoffs.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: Let's go to this is this is Tennessee season.
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: I'm all in.
- 49:35SPEAKER_02: All right, we're taking, I'm taking, I'm with you.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: I'm taking the Tennessee money line because I love you and I want you to win this game.
- 49:40SPEAKER_02: And Columbus is not the Hornet's nest like Bobby Dodd, Georgia Tech.
- 49:43SPEAKER_03: They don't have Hornet's nest.
- 49:45SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be wild.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: It's nothing like Georgia Tech, so I'm not worried about it.
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: All right, we're taking Tennessee money line outright plus 220.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: All right, good stuff.
- 49:53SPEAKER_02: So you're uh you're we got uh Army Navy over under 38 and a half, the under, uh Indiana Notre Dame under 15 and a half, Clemson plus 11, Penn State minus eight and a half, and the Tennessee money line plus two twenty.
- 50:05SPEAKER_02: Uh ten dollars wins you four hundred and thirty-two dollars.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: Bang! All right, that's really low.
- 50:12SPEAKER_02: It's only five bucks.
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: That's why uh that's so that is your Mike Blitz bet of the week.
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: Uh, probably the last bet of the week for the season.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: Maybe we'll do one more later when the bowl games kick up in round two.
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: We'll see if we're if we're feeling it.
- 50:22SPEAKER_02: Um, that's it.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: Uh, that's all I got.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'll quickly say, yeah, Nico, let's it's a big shots.
- 50:30SPEAKER_02: Dylan Sampson's gonna get his Tennessee's defense is gonna travel well.
- 50:34SPEAKER_02: I think Tennessee fans are gonna travel pretty well, frankly.
- 50:36SPEAKER_02: Um, so um, and I mean, I don't think it's a coincidence that this is the shortest line of the four because this is the best chance for an upset.
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: So um, let's see the Vols go get it done in Columbus, and we're gonna put our money on it because but we do, we support our guys.
- 50:49SPEAKER_02: Uh, anything else for the good of the order before we get out of here?
- 50:53SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'm psyched.
- 50:54SPEAKER_03: I can't wait.
- 50:55SPEAKER_03: Fast forward me to next weekend.
- 50:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, let's go.
