Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_02]: Pressure intuition is difficult because it's easily confused with fear, anxiety, or pastram or rather than a purely rational guide.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_02]: It is built on the learned experience and some conscious pattern recognition meaning can be biased or inaccurate in a new situation.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_02]: Additionally, high stress to set up pressure and logical over analytical thinking often
- 0:19[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the be it till you see it podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor and fitness business coach.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_02]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_02]: My friends, action brings clarity, and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_02]: Each week my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it till you see it.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_02]: All right, be at Bay of Hight.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_02]: We're gonna have a really fun series for you two episodes.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, the fun, I certainly hope so.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_02]: Though if you're new to the be at POD, normally in the past, we always had an interview on Tuesdays and a recap on Thursdays.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_02]: And...
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: After five years of doing that, I talked to so many people.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_02]: I thought so many requests on topics that sometimes the hard, just find a guess who wants to talk about that for like 20 minutes, right?
- 1:26[SPEAKER_02]: And so I thought it'd be fun to take some of the topics that you guys have in requesting and then do some deep dive research myself, share them with you, and then we can have other guests come on after that that kind of dovetail into that topic.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: And so
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: we have a great episode coming out next week that's all about listening to your body and what it's telling you and healing yourself.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: And so that led me to going like can everyone listen to their intuition like do we all have it?
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: Does it easy to listen to yourself?
- 1:53[SPEAKER_02]: And so I don't know let's let's talk about it right?
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think as someone who's in Aquarius who's in her head all the time I was like is it is talking to myself as an Aquarius with ADHD in my head all the time
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's just like self-talk.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll see what the research says in just a second.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: But I will also say, like, I can think of certain times where there was a very clear voice that came through in my life about what I should be doing next.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: And I remember going that is such a weird thing to hear or say or think.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's why I feel like it's not the same as just talking to yourself.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's like a clear voice that cuts through and it's like, hey, hold on.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: Pay attention to this.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'll tell you a couple of them.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: One, the voice that I heard in my head when I was in a Pilates class, and this had been in 2007, I didn't apply it for a couple of years at that point, and I was like, it was probably around April or May of 2007, and because I moved into a couple months later.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_02]: So I actually knew it might have been June, because I was such a quick turnaround like a 30 days.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: So I was in a high class, and I heard my voice go,
- 3:06[SPEAKER_02]: I don't like living here.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_02]: In the plies class, I don't like living here.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't know what, oh, we're just saying.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: Because the truth is, like, consciously, I love living words of, I live by the beach.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: Who wouldn't want to do that?
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: I live by the beach for almost seven years at that point.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: Like the one of the luckiest people I had the greatest job, and so for me to say, I don't like living here was kind of like a big thought to have, and that that thought later that day when I went to work and I picked up the phone and somebody was like, hey, Leslie should have my same job at a different location in LA and Santa Monica, so also by the beach, and she said, hey Leslie, she's like, I put my two-week notice and it was like my my mind was like, remember the thing that I heard my my mind goes, my mind goes,
- 3:46[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm going to put in for your job, right?
- 3:50[SPEAKER_02]: And so then I, so that was one moment where like the intuition was just so clear for me for like what I need to do and how I need to change my life.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: And the other time that I can share with you about like listening to my intuition is one of my clients, so two, two parts.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: So in December of 2019, Brad and I were in Vegas, kicking off our very first tour ever and we were at Vesta Coffee Shop, it's on Cassino Center Drive, shout it to our neighbors.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: And I never been there waiting for our pop up to start and we were having coffee and braggos.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: I could live here that that right.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I looked around and I was like, I know it feels like the weird 10 of Melrose, like the place in town like we've always wanted to kind of live at and we didn't have it.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_02]: And it didn't even feel weird.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: Even think because we loved LA.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_02]: So like it's kind of just a little weird that like you would say that and I'm like,
- 4:34[SPEAKER_02]: We love that life, so like why would I go, yeah, you know, and so then I gathered some information like that day I asked my brother like people live here who don't like work in the industry here and he's like, oh yeah, you know, and so put that aside like Brad said that thing I had this feel like feeling like, oh, and I got some more information.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: Then it two weeks after Shad Downton COVID, so we're in April, one of my clients said, hey, this company I work for is going to be working remote until June of 2021.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: So I think you should break your lease cancel it, but you just have some storage like, you know, and my immediate thought when she said that my, my brain was like, space is going to become a commodity, Brad and I need to move to Vegas now, right?
- 5:16[SPEAKER_02]: And so that was just like this intuition moment that I could then take action on and then and June 1st we moved.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: So I, so I think that like it really does require a little bit of information and then trust in your gut, but that's what I think I'd love to know what you think.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_02]: And here's what the research says.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: So let's see.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: If we think I'm spot on, or if you agree with me, you agree with the research.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: So I have two things for today's episode.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: Today's episode is like, what is intuition?
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: And then also why is it difficult for us to hear or trust our intuition?
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: Thurzy's episode is going to be on tools to actually hear your intuition better.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: Okay?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the breakdown of our line up.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 5:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then the sources for this information are always going to be in our show note.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_02]: So what is intuition?
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: Intuition isn't magic or fantasy.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: Intuition is the ability to acquire knowledge or understand something immediately without the need for conscious reasoning or analytical thought.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: Often described as a gut feeling.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: It acts as an inner voice that processes information past experience and then pattern recognition on sub-conscious level to guide decisions.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: So you can see from my two examples, like,
- 6:21[SPEAKER_02]: I had to have information, you know, like I had been living the place where I've been living for a while and I've been doing Pilates and then I had this thought and then when I went to this to the next part of my day, I got more information.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: It was like I can act on that gut feeling right.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_02]: Brad and I liked they guess that about moving here in two or three years, so in 2022 or 2023.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_02]: And then again, got some information.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_02]: I might got feeling like, oh, I can take action on that.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just, it's kind of like the same thing that people could say that luck is the intersection of preparation meets opportunity.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that the more I read about this intuition stuff, it's like, you have a connection to your thoughts.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_02]: And then you get, it meets opportunity of information.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: No one else would see because they're not in you, and they don't, they have different thoughts that get the same information, so it's going to have a different reaction, right?
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: So key aspects of intuition, there's a subconscious processing.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's not magical, but rather the brain's rapid automatic analysis of previous experiences of stored knowledge.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: So your brain is a file cabinet, and it's got the stuff going on, and then all of a sudden it's a rapid automatic, like looking through the files going boom, hold on, what take this out, listen to this, right?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: pattern recognition if functions the mental shortcut helping individuals recognize patterns and complex situations.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: One of the things that I joke about and I feel like several of you listeners have agreed that you have the same thing is like when the shoe drops, I have such clarity of the next thing to go like the next thing to do.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: So for example, we were on a plane coming home from Cambodia on March 14th, 2020.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: And I already knew LA had shut down.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: We had heard that the day before, and so we had sent our dog walker to a grocery store, like it just sent our bunch of money.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, please, get Eddie and groceries.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_02]: You can.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: Good luck.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: Stay safe, right?
- 8:08[SPEAKER_02]: And we're on this plane, and I'm getting all these emails of all these people who are trying to cancel contracts I have for that year.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I told Brad, I said, the prize industry does not know how to teach online, and every single person has to go online yesterday.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_02]: So when I get home, I'm going to teach the people who are in our profit-applies agency membership, how to teach online, and do that tomorrow.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: So I like set it up, I told everyone, at this time, at this day, it's your part of your membership, I'm teaching you.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: And then I've had a public one that I charged for for five days later.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_02]: So I knew based on just how much of my life experiences of the teacher that was teaching online.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: And then so I knew what I have been doing, but most people are not trying to do that.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_02]: And so is this like mental shortcut that I was able to go.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: This is a complex situation.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: Hold on.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: I know how to teach this.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to do this and let it go.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to do it right now.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's like it was this like urge that I had to get it done.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really proud of what we did and how we saved so many people's businesses because of that quick mental shortcut pattern recognition right speed and emotion intuitive thoughts often appear quickly in consciousness a company by an emotional or physical sensation right speed and emotion intuitive thoughts often appear quickly in consciousness a company by an emotion or physical sensation.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: between mind and logic, it bridges the gap between the conscious and unconscious mind operating beneath layers of logic.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that is really important because I believe that in hindsight, we can see how logical some of these gut instincts intuition moments are.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: But in the actual moment, it seems illogical if you were to tell people.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: Like when I came home and told Brad, I was like, space is going to come out with commodity, we need to buy a house right now.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: Luckily, he just like,
- 9:47[SPEAKER_02]: I've been on board with my crazy thoughts already, but a lot of people were like, you shouldn't be spending any money right now.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: There's so much answer, like the logical part would be like, don't buy a house right now, right?
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: So it really does bridge the gap between the tube.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: How it works.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: Intuition relies on tacit knowledge, which is information gathered over time that is not consciously recalled.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's particularly effective in situations where quick, high-stake decisions are required, such as detecting danger assessing persons trustworthiness.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: While powerful can be influenced by biases such as past negative experiences, that's important.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: Your intuition can be a little flawed based on your past experiences, so it's always important that you are growing and learning because there's two books I want to that my brain just recalled that I feel like oh my gosh, we have to talk about these right now.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_02]: One of these books is called the Gift of Fear.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's by Gavin DeBecker and the book,
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: When I read it, so I will say I've read it with a different place in my life.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: But when I've read it, there's an interesting part about how your gut will tell you something like instinct about something.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: But then logic will tell you something completely different.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: And so then you'll lean on logic when your gut instinct was to not trust the person or not trust the thing.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: Now, with that said, if you have a past experience in the subconscious,
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: that can actually affect you reading your intuition a little incorrectly, let me explain that.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: There's all of the nether book.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: Here we go.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: So there's the book, what happened to you?
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: And that is with a great doctor, Antopra, and it talks about how your brain is developing.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: So as a child, if someone had a special center, smell, or voice, or something like that, it will
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: attribute that center smell or a voice response to some and let's say that person was a negative person in your life, it will attribute that so if you smell that your your gut instinct might be to feel fear and unsafe when that person has nothing to do with that and that that it that's in the present moment has nothing to do with that and but your your.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: your misreading based on your past experience.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: So you do want to make sure that you're if you have any of the any traumas in your life that you're not necessarily using that trauma to cast a judgment on somebody else you don't know.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: But so definitely the gift of fear read what happened to you if that's some if you have anything like that if you smell something that instantly makes you want to go, oh my god, I got to leave this place.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: I would definitely explore that so you can retrain that because it could be a shitty person but if it's
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: The third book.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't finish this book.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: I will say, and I have no idea if this author ages well in life, and we're not going to go down that road.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: But...
- 12:22[SPEAKER_02]: But in it's called getting the love you want and I had a lot of her into her couples read it and they were a really in problematic relationships so I don't know I took the recommendation but I was in a different relationship and I was like okay I want to read this with you and of course big red flag they did not want to read it with me, but one of the things about in the first chapter of this book which is like the most important part that kind of goes with what I was just talking about in what happened to you is that.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: When we get into relationships, we fill all of our holes up, right?
- 12:49[SPEAKER_02]: Holes with an issue, we fill our holes up, and then we project the person that we're with, fill those holes up, but we actually just did it ourselves.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: And then when the relationship is no longer new, and we are tired of filling our holes, we stop doing that, and then we blame the other person for changing when really we do the ones that we're doing that.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_02]: But in that book, talk about how oftentimes we cast judgments on people based on subconscious thoughts from early childhood with different people in our family.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_02]: So we either trust someone because they seem like their energy seems like your grandmother who you loved or they seem like you're your stepfather who you didn't right.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: So.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: So definitely worth if you have, if you're having a hard time trusting yourself or you are your feel like you might be misinterpreting based on past experiences, you might want to check those things out or instead of reading the books, just go get some great wonderful help.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so
- 13:40[SPEAKER_02]: back at this of how it works.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_02]: Remember, I'll just repeat myself.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_02]: Intuition relies on tacit knowledge, which is information gathered over time that is not consciously recalled, is particularly effective in situations where quick, high-stakes decisions are required, such as detecting danger or assessing a person's trustworthiness.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: While powerful, it can be influenced by biases such as negative past experiences.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: So definitely,
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: I agree like I think that intuition is something that's like happening all day long all the time although it could be I guess But for the most of us we're really like relying on it and like paying attention to it in times of need When we have to make a quick decision and that's almost like you get a little more clarity right like the mind chatter does stops You can actually hear what's important So we have some examples so at the soldier or place officer sensing danger and a seemingly safe environment
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: Interpersonal, feeling an immediate sense of an ease or trust regarding a new person, right?
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: You go to a family event, someone brings a friend and you're like, I do not like this person.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: I will say, okay, I remember in high school, I always watch a good morning, America.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: My mom would always find the day show and I was like, that mat, wow, our guy.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: is weird.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_02]: There's just something about that mat now.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: I got, I do not like it.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, Leslie, you don't even know him.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_02]: He is a reporter and I am not.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_02]: I could not stand the sound of his voice.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: So then when I read Ronan Ferrell's book, I was like, fucking knew it.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_02]: I knew it.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: I knew it, right?
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's so, I'm so, I'll say, sometimes it's like, it feels logical to other people, but
- 15:09[SPEAKER_02]: You might have an immediate sense of unease or trust we're going new person and then skill based an expert making a split correct decision in a fast-paced game or in a professional setting based on deep experiences.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_02]: You've seen this in the movies, right?
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: You leave in down this, right?
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: So this is as a
- 15:27[SPEAKER_02]: it takes time for your gut to be like, they need this exercise over here, but it doesn't come if you're talking all the time.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_02]: Right, if you constantly are counting for clients and you're constantly talking the whole time, you can't actually be present enough to see if like what's going on and then you can't hear the intuition saying, I think they should go to the sexist eyes over here.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_02]: I'll never forget the time that I was watching J Grimes teach and I said, oh, why did you give him that exercise?
- 15:53[SPEAKER_02]: He was like, I don't know, my gut just said he needed it.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_02]: Right, like that's the that's a skill based one.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_02]: That's the one I pride myself in having.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_02]: So now let's actually talk about why Pressure intuition could be difficult.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like why it might be hard to hear when your intuition is talking to you.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: So, pressure intuition is difficult because it's easily confused with fear, anxiety, or pastram, or rather than a purely rational guide.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: It is built on the learned experience and some conscious pattern recognition meaning can be biased or inaccurate new situations, additionally high stress to set up pressure and logical over analytical thinking often drown out inner quiet knowing.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll just say like, I think sometimes we can't hear it because we don't want to because we know the answer is probably something that's been doing that's different, you know, like,
- 16:40[SPEAKER_02]: that past person I was with who didn't really read the book.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: I remember being on the 101 freeway and I remember thinking, gosh, I wish you would just break up with me.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_02]: My thought wasn't like, oh, I should break up with him.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: It was they wish you'd just break up with me.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then I was like, oh my god, and I'd have to move and I actually things and like he's not a bad guy and like on paper he wasn't.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_02]: So like it's really interesting how we can like have intuitive thoughts.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_02]: And then like because they don't make sense in logic, we kind of like talk ourselves out of it.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: I also say I remember having, I remember the stink moment where my brain was like, you should just make a left here.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, why would I make a left here?
- 17:22[SPEAKER_02]: And instead, I made a left where I always make a left and I was in a head-on collision.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, I don't know why I thought that, but I like, literally wasn't listening at that time of my life.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_02]: And so, I think it can be, depending on what's going on in your life, it can be hard to listen to those things, or you might not.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: You might have a series of time of just actually not trusting yourself in the decision you made, and so then when your inner intuition is telling you something you haven't, you don't have trust there, right?
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: And so, I feel that I see that.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: Here are some other main reasons why it's hard to trust your intuition.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: Confusion with fear and trauma, what feels like a gut feeling is often an emotional reaction based on past trauma, fear or anxiety causing you to overreact.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: Anxiety often masquerades as intuition, especially when facing new or challenging, but harmless situations.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: Again, I do think if you know that certain things cause you some anxiety or fear, it is absolutely worth going and exploring that with someone who up with a professional, because what I don't want you to do and what you take from this episode is that, oh, when I have fear and anxiety, it's not real, and I should just listen to my intuition, that is not what I want.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_02]: I want actually to want you to get some clear, potent support so that you can recognize the difference between anxiety and intuition, right?
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: context dependency intuition relies on learn patterns on the past.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: If you're in a new or unfamiliar situation, your gut may not have the necessary experience provide accurate guidance, making it unreliable in, for example, a modern complex scenario compared to simple repetitive ones.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is where you can, if you are in a new situation, a new job, a new, totally different thing.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you're supposed to fly into JFK and you're in decline into some other place and now you're going to, it's going to be really difficult to hear because you're, you're going to be really difficult to hear because you're, you're, you're, you're going to tuition because, you're, you're, you're, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to, you're
- 19:04[SPEAKER_02]: your brain doesn't have a file for that place, and so it's almost like a lot of noise.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: So then I would just say like, don't judge yourself.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_02]: We're not going to hear yourself.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: Your brain is trying to take into the information it needs before it can even pipe in with some intuition.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: Logical over analysis, the logical sensor in our brain often dominates, it says you're making dismissing, subtle, nonverbal, or non-logical cues.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_02]: So if you read the gift of fear,
- 19:28[SPEAKER_02]: He talks about how like he was in a restaurant and it smelled like the smell smelled like Italian and he was like Oh, Italian and he's looking at like the name of the restaurant and it's Italian But the pictures everywhere are not Italian restaurant pictures.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_02]: They're quite they're quite different, right?
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: And so
- 19:50[SPEAKER_02]: his, he knew he, like, like, like, like his into which is like, oh my god, because this is gonna be a great Italian meal.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: But then the logic around him was showing that it wasn't Italian.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: So he's like, oh, maybe it's not Italian.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_02]: So maybe it's whatever he thought it was.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I should order this X, Y, or Z.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_02]: Then the menu came as it was fucking Italian, right?
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: So it's really easy for us to talk ourselves out of what we're actually hearing by using logic.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_02]: And logic is there for a reason.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: I had not bad mouthing it, but sometimes it can lead you astray.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's actually picking up on the subtler things that are actually what's going on.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_02]: Mental noise and stress, high levels of stress depression or being a state of shock can distort or block intuitive signals.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_02]: So, you're stressed out right now.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: My love, like that's why you're not hearing it, right?
- 20:36[SPEAKER_02]: You're not hearing your intuition because you're in a high stress space.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_02]: So, it's not like meditation a day.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to solve that problem.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: You might have to do egg make other changes, but be kind to yourself.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be harder to hear.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: prior failures, past mistakes can make you lose confidence in your own judgment.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is what we had to really kind to ourselves because I always believe we fail forward.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_02]: I really do believe that like making like if you think you made an air quotes a bad decision based on something you thought you're in tuition.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_02]: and it led you to door number three.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_02]: Well, my thing is that, you know, if you didn't die, then door number three is not that door.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's an experience you need to have.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_02]: Your brain would actually have more information to make better decisions in the future.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_02]: And so actually, maybe you're supposed to go through door number three and your intuition was spot on, right?
- 21:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I will absolutely say, like, I would not be here talking to you today.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_02]: Had I not gone and taken that first Pilates class with my logic, no one's saying, do not do that.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 21:33[SPEAKER_02]: I would not be here today if I had relied on my past failures of like the first time we did agency nobody bought it.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_02]: But now agencies as like eight years old and has helped thousands of businesses.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_02]: So I would just say like you're going to fail on life.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't mean you can't trust yourself.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_02]: It means you had to learn something so that you could have even greater information and success in the future.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: But just be kind yourself.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: social pressure.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: The desire to conform to social norms or fear of judgment can override your internal signals.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is really huge.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: I will tell you right now, my gut was spot on with all my exes every single foot.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: But especially my last one, I remember my gut was like, this is, I think we should let this one go and people at my job are like, oh my God, he sent flowers.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God, he picked you up for a date.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God, he did these things.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_02]: And so then I stopped listening to my gut and
- 22:22[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: When I can tell you right now, within 48 hours, my gut was like, should move on from this, you know?
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: Anyways, that happens though because societal pressure and norms can like really change your decisions on on what you're doing and make you not listen to yourself.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: Self sabotage.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes self sabotaging behavior disguises itself as the gut feeling to keep you in a comfortable familiar but limiting state.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: So what I will say is I have many people saying, Oh, gosh, I had this obstacle, which means I'm probably not supposed to be doing the thing that I'm doing and I would say like actually is that it's saying.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: Or is it saying like, hey, how bad do you want this?
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: Are you going to work a little harder for it, right?
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think like, first of all, I think too many people think that things are going to come easy for you.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: Just because you have this great idea that it's just going to be easy to do.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing is easy to do.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: We're working on two major projects right now that let's get the fuck out of me if I'm completely honest.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_02]: And every time I think maybe we shouldn't do it, my gut's like, oh, you're doing it.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like you're supposed to do it.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like talk about like that end stank work.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like there's an emotional and physical feeling.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about earlier in the episode.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_02]: Like every time I think I'm not gonna do it, I actually feel uneasy.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_02]: And when I think like why I'm gonna do it, it's like, yeah, cause that makes the most sense.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: So I would just say that like, it's easy to self-sabotage and stop yourself and call it intuition because you're feeling an obstacle, but that's not necessarily what's happening.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: And how do you know if it's self-sabotage or actually got intuition?
- 23:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think you'll have to actually just look back at your past behaviors.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: Are you doing something you've done in the past?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's something's game really hard until you're talking yourself out of it.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you have to ask yourself like, what is a cost of not doing this?
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: You might have to just take a little bit more time and do some journaling or give you're to stuff a little bit more time.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: Let me just hang on a little longer.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_02]: I can always stop this and the future, but let's just like take a little bit longer and get a little bit more information.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: Now, that said, sometimes people are so afraid of self sabotage that they talk themselves into being in jobs longer and relationships longer and other things longer.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_02]: So I just say, like, you know you the best.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_02]: This is where you have to get honest with yourself, right?
- 24:35[SPEAKER_02]: So it's because I don't want you to be like, oh, I'm, I don't want to self sabotage my stick out this thing.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_02]: And I, and Leslie said, so no, I just want you to, just pay attention to your own patterns.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_02]: And, and what is going on?
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: Here's the thing, hearing your intuition is difficult because it is a quiet, subtle, inner voice that is easily drowned out by loud, racing thoughts, fear, and societal demands for logic.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_02]: It is often hard to distinguish from anxiety or past traumas, which present as urgent, emotional and reactive, rather than calm and steady.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like if you are someone who is like fill in the effects of cortisol has had past trauma as a lock going on in your mind.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_02]: You're it to you're there's too much uncertainty in your life.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: I just want you to know if you're having a hard time getting what to do next.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's because you go there's a lot going on and there's a lot going on right now.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god like logic and society would say let's not start anything new right now.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_02]: Right, but I will also say that like some of the crazy things I did at times for the so uncertain I am like sitting in this beautiful house a people were like you're crazy to buy a house when like you're not even sure what code it's going to do with your business right now now I also don't want people to go into debt because it's on my guts as so like we have to really make sure that we're making decisions from the right place and sitting with those things.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: And as you build that app, you might need to take some time and make sure that it's the same answer.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you like shake a magic cable and you get an answer.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like, I don't like the same answer, just shake it again together, answer.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_02]: This is like, I would say it's the opposite.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, maybe if you're working on trust in your intuition and not self-sabotage or talking yourself out of things or using society's pressures to stick with whatever you're supposed to do, maybe you're looking for the ball to say the same thing three days in a row.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so just a couple, just to go on to that because I know I know you my listener.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_02]: I know you need more information, so here is more information on why it's hard to hear your intuition.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_02]: So overthinking noise over thinking, chronic overthinking, hello, my chronic over thinkers.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_02]: I see you stress an anxiety, create mental noise.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_02]: It drowns out the quiet set of whispers of intuition.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: So if that's you, you might want to be taking some time, maybe the habits to try to figure like, what do I do with my overthinking thoughts?
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm an overthinking car at night, wholly freaking moly.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_02]: It is insanity, so guess what?
- 26:51[SPEAKER_02]: Milimbrou, extra magnesium, a little extra support from my hormones specialist.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_02]: I can overthink in the morning.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then I'm like, this is too beautiful to overthink right now, right?
- 27:01[SPEAKER_02]: fear, misidently identified as intuition.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: So true intuition feels calm.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_02]: While fear based thoughts are allowed urgent and emotional, we often confuse fear or past trauma, for example, needing to protect yourself for intuition.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_02]: So I think I love that they brought this up because it's like, how do you know?
- 27:18[SPEAKER_02]: And as I've just mentioned a few times, it's one thing I'm thinking of doing every time I think about not doing it.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't feel easy, which is my thing that doing it.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_02]: This is going to be the hardest thing I've ever done.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: But there's a calmness, like a confidence to my body that I feel, right?
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: Overreliance on logic.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_02]: So society prior to this data, facts and rational thinking, leading us to dismiss gut feelings at lack and media, logical explanation.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: So just notice, like, look, I do believe in data overdog lab, but just kind of notice when you're letting other people's need for data, determine what you, how you make your decisions.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_02]: That's their need, not yours.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: lack of intercom, intuition requires a grounded present state, you're overwhelmed, ungrounded or disconnected from your body.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: You cannot hear the physical sensations that often accompany into it if nudges, right?
- 28:02[SPEAKER_02]: So like, I will just say, if you are not in intercom state, you should not be making any decisions.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: One, you're not really hearing intuition, but two, like we all make poor decisions, state, terrible people, pick big fights, well, we're not in intercom state.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: So you might want to figure out things that help you with that.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: lack of trust and self doubt, low self confidence or history of dismissing your own feelings can make it difficult to trust your inner voice when it does speak.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_02]: I feel that I get you.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: I've been there.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_02]: So my love, I hope this gave you some like kind of thought and some insight about like intuition versus interview chatter versus why it's hard.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_02]: I hope you know like it's totally normal to feel like you have lost your inner voice or that you don't have that trust there.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think that there's just.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: so much going on and I don't know that our intuition in really like compete with like the scroll the instant scroll of so many things that are going on and and you know the time I'm recording this like you know the president is like threatening to be at war but also you know that's a distraction for the files and then there's this happening and it's although over here and then the hockey team just bringing up what every single female like always feels is happening all of the time
- 29:12[SPEAKER_02]: And you're just like, oh my god, and I have to go to work.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_02]: And I have to fill this thing out.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I have to figure out how I'm going to make this big decision.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: And so I just want you to know, like, there is a lot going on.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: So it can be hard.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I would highly encourage you to figure out.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe brainstorm, go back to the habits episode and brainstorm all the different things that you could do to try to just like get a habit or a thing that you could do to help you calm your nervous system so that then you can make decisions from a better place.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_02]: And just remember that taking all the information is helping you with your intuition your intuition relies on information that you have filed away.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_02]: So I think you're amazing.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: I really hope that you are into the series.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_02]: So Thursday I'll give you the tools for listening and hearing it better.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_02]: And the next week we're gonna have a really great guest who used her inner knowing and inner guidance to help heal herself.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that there's so much that our intuition and inner guidance can do for listening.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_02]: And so I hope this gets you started.
