- 0:53Speaker 1: 57 others are running across all categories, including boys this year.
- 0:59Speaker 1: The four vying for Queen are as follows. Bristol Allen,

- 1:12Speaker 1: Carol Trent and niece of Rose Trent and student at

- 1:38Speaker 1: Charges filed in Highway 15 accident. More details have surfaced
- 1:43Speaker 1: in an accident that occurred on Highway 15 near Walmart
- 1:47Speaker 1: where a moped was struck by a truck. The accident
- 1:50Speaker 1: occurred Wednesday, May 27th at approximately 9.30 p.m. where police
- 1:55Speaker 1: say that a truck had struck a scooter. During the investigation,
- 1:59Speaker 1: it was found that Alan Shaw, Age 28 of Jackson
- 2:03Speaker 1: was operating a scooter when he was struck from behind
- 2:06Speaker 1: by a Chevy Silverado being operated by 19-year-old Brandon Turner
- 2:10Speaker 1: of Jackson. Police say that Shaw was ejected from the
- 2:14Speaker 1: moped upon impact and the scooter was carried another 1,300
- 2:18Speaker 1: feet before the truck stopped. Turner told police he did
- 2:23Speaker 1: not see the scooter. Police say that Turner was not
- 2:26Speaker 1: under the influence and was not injured. The accident has
- 2:29Speaker 1: sparked personal attacks against the driver of the truck, who
- 2:32Speaker 1: was found by the Breathitt County Grand Jury that he
- 2:34Speaker 1: did nothing wrong. After further investigation, it was discovered that
- 2:39Speaker 1: state law requires that a moped scooter operator have a license.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Shaw did not have a valid license and has been
- 2:45Speaker 1: charged with not having a license. The criminal complaint filed
- 2:49Speaker 1: by police states that on May 27, 2026, in Breathitt County, Kentucky,
- 2:54Speaker 1: Charles Allen Shaw commended the offense of no operator's or
- 2:57Speaker 1: moped license when he operated a moped upon a public
- 3:01Speaker 1: highway in Breathitt County, Kentucky, without possessing a valid operator's
- 3:05Speaker 1: or moped license, which was required in the state of
- 3:08Speaker 1: Kentucky when he was involved in an injury accident on
- 3:11Speaker 1: Walmart Hill in Jackson, Kentucky, in a 55-mile-an-hour zone. Shaw
- 3:17Speaker 1: is scheduled to appear in court on September 14, 2026,
- 3:20Speaker 1: in Breathitt Circuit Court for arraignment. Local songwriter signs with
- 3:25Speaker 1: Columbia Records. A local songwriter has accepted an offer to
- 3:29Speaker 1: have one of her songs purchased by Columbia Records. Natasha
- 3:34Speaker 1: Henson wrote the lyrics to Long Time Letting Go after
- 3:37Speaker 1: the death of her best friend, Christopher Fisher, who died
- 3:40Speaker 1: on December 29, 2019. Two years following, she entered the
- 3:44Speaker 1: lyrics into a competition hosted by Song Bay. Even though
- 3:48Speaker 1: the song did not win in the competition, she did
- 3:51Speaker 1: not stop there. In April of 2023, she was contacted
- 3:55Speaker 1: by a legal representative associated with Columbia Records with an
- 3:59Speaker 1: offer to purchase a standard license to use the lyrics
- 4:01Speaker 1: to long-time letting go. Henson accepted the offer, believing she
- 4:06Speaker 1: had reached the end of what had become an unexpected
- 4:08Speaker 1: journey for a song that originally had been written as
- 4:11Speaker 1: a personal tribute to her late friend. I thought that
- 4:14Speaker 1: was the end of it, Henson said. Years later, however,
- 4:17Speaker 1: another unexpected phone call changed the trajectory of the song
- 4:20Speaker 1: once again. She was recently contacted by representatives from Columbia
- 4:25Speaker 1: regarding an extended commercial license for the lyrics after the
- 4:28Speaker 1: song had reportedly been picked up for consideration by country
- 4:32Speaker 1: artist Coey Wetzel. The development has left Henson watching something
- 4:36Speaker 1: that began as private grief potentially move towards a much
- 4:40Speaker 1: larger audience. Following the release of the demo, she will
- 4:43Speaker 1: have an opportunity to consider several potential arrangements concerning the
- 4:47Speaker 1: future of the song, including a full copyright exchange, or
- 4:51Speaker 1: a co-writing arrangement that could provide her with a percentage
- 4:54Speaker 1: of mechanical performance and synchronization royalties associated with the finished recording,
- 4:59Speaker 1: according to the contract. The advocate will continue to follow
- 5:02Speaker 1: the progress of Henson's songwriting career as it develops even more.
- 5:08Speaker 1: New trial date set for Howard A Breathitt County man,
- 5:12Speaker 1: whose trial ended in a mistrial recently, has a new
- 5:14Speaker 1: trial scheduled. French Howard, age 49, of Jackson, appeared in
- 5:19Speaker 1: Breathitt Circuit Court recently for a bond reduction hearing and
- 5:22Speaker 1: a pretrial conference. After the hearing, Howard's bond of $ 10, 000
- 5:26Speaker 1: cash was ordered to remain the same. A final pretrial
- 5:30Speaker 1: conference was set for September 25, 2026, at 10 a.m.,
- 5:34Speaker 1: with a new jury trial being scheduled for October 12
- 5:37Speaker 1: and 13, 2026, at 9 a.m. Howard is charged in
- 5:42Speaker 1: a two-count indictment with rape and sexual abuse, both on
- 5:46Speaker 1: a child under 12 years of age. According to an
- 5:49Speaker 1: indictment issued by the Berthoud County Grand Jury, on February 4, 2025,
- 5:54Speaker 1: the alleged rape and sexual abuse took place between September 26,
- 5:58Speaker 1: 2019 and September 26, 2020. A mistrial was declared after
- 6:03Speaker 1: the trial was over, since the jury could not come
- 6:06Speaker 1: to a unanimous verdict in the cases. I will now
- 6:10Speaker 1: read this week's obituaries. I will only read the name, age,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and location, if given. If listeners wish to hear the
- 6:17Speaker 1: entire obituary... please feel free to call us at Radio
- 6:21Speaker 1: I at 859-422-6390. I will repeat this number at the
- 6:27Speaker 1: end of this segment as well. Naomi G. Crace, age 89,
- 6:32Speaker 1: of New Bavaria, died Sunday morning, August 16, 2026, at
- 6:37Speaker 1: the Defiance Hospice Inpatient Center. Robert Ray Puckett, age 58,
- 6:43Speaker 1: of Jackson, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026,
- 6:48Speaker 1: at the Hazard ARH. These were the obituaries for the
- 6:54Speaker 1: August 26th edition of the Breath It Advocate. If you
- 6:57Speaker 1: wish to hear an entire obituary read, please call us
- 7:01Speaker 1: at 859-422-6390 and we would be happy to help. Next,
- 7:08Speaker 1: we have our weekly game of Guess Who? I will
- 7:11Speaker 1: read the prompt twice, once now and once at the
- 7:14Speaker 1: end of this recording, before giving the answer. Stay tuned
- 7:17Speaker 1: until the end to see if you got it right.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Guess who? I am a singer born in Illinois on
- 7:24Speaker 1: December 23, 1964. I worked as a security guard outside
- 7:29Speaker 1: a hotel to raise money for my music. I am
- 7:32Speaker 1: best known as the lead singer of a popular 90s
- 7:35Speaker 1: alternative rock band. Who am I? So Be It by
- 7:40Speaker 1: Pastor Naomi Joy or Happiness In the Bible, joy and
- 7:46Speaker 1: happiness are both positive emotions, but they differ in their source, stability,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and spiritual significance. Happiness is generally a fleeting, circumstance-based feeling.
- 7:57Speaker 1: It arises from favorable external events such as good news, success, comfort,
- 8:01Speaker 1: or pleasure, and can change quickly when those circumstances shift.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Proverbs 15.13 says, A joyful heart makes a cheerful countenance,
- 8:11Speaker 1: but sorrow of the heart crushes the spirit. This type
- 8:14Speaker 1: of joy is tied to what happens in life, and
- 8:17Speaker 1: can be displaced by hardship. Joy, in contrast, is a deep,
- 8:22Speaker 1: enduring spiritual blessing, rooted in the character, promises, and presence
- 8:26Speaker 1: of God, especially in Christ. It is not dependent on
- 8:30Speaker 1: external conditions, but on the truth of God's faithfulness. As
- 8:37Speaker 1: Scripture puts it, the joy of the Lord is your strength.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Nehemiah 8.10 Joy is described as a fruit of the Spirit,
- 8:44Speaker 1: Galatians 5.22, and is sustained by trust in God's sovereignty
- 8:49Speaker 1: and goodness. Happiness comes from what happens. Joy comes from
- 8:53Speaker 1: who God is and what he has done. Happiness is temporary.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Joy is lasting even in trials, James 1.2-4. Happiness is
- 9:03Speaker 1: often worldly. Joy is divine and rooted in faith. Job's
- 9:08Speaker 1: joy remained despite losing all earthly possessions, Job 19, 25,
- 9:13Speaker 1: and 26. Paul's joy was in Christ regardless of circumstances,
- 9:18Speaker 1: Philippians 4, 4. While the Bible does not always make
- 9:22Speaker 1: a sharp distinction between the two, many Christian teachers emphasize
- 9:25Speaker 1: that joy is the deeper, more enduring form of gladness,
- 9:30Speaker 1: while happiness is more superficial and conditional. Both are valuable,
- 9:34Speaker 1: but joy is seen as the true Christian response. to
- 9:37Speaker 1: God's love and promises. Hebrews 12.2 says, For the joy
- 9:42Speaker 1: set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame,
- 9:45Speaker 1: and sat down at the right hand of the throne
- 9:47Speaker 1: of God. In short, happiness is a reaction to circumstances.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Joy is a response to God. Christians are called to
- 9:55Speaker 1: be joyful always, 1 Thessalonians 5.16, knowing that true joy
- 10:00Speaker 1: cannot be shaken by life's ups and downs. Let's purse
- 10:05Speaker 1: the Jesus kind of joy. Amen, so be it. Helping
- 10:12Speaker 1: Hands Christian Resources by Kathleen Abner Hello friends and neighbors.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I hope this column this week finds everyone well. My
- 10:21Speaker 1: heart goes out to the families that have experienced death
- 10:23Speaker 1: and loss this week. Please know that you're in my prayers.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Remember that God is faithful, and he will get you
- 10:30Speaker 1: through this if you lean on him. He will be
- 10:32Speaker 1: one day at a time, and sometimes it will be
- 10:35Speaker 1: one moment at a time, but he is still faithful.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Happy birthday to Daniel Brewer, to one of our very
- 10:41Speaker 1: faithful volunteers. Wanted to give you all a heads up.
- 10:46Speaker 1: and let you know that we definitely won't be getting
- 10:48Speaker 1: a truck in August to distribute at the park, but
- 10:50Speaker 1: once September comes, we're going to see if things have
- 10:52Speaker 1: worked out so that we can possibly get one for September.
- 10:55Speaker 1: You can keep in touch with me, and I will
- 10:57Speaker 1: keep information available so that you can keep updated. Also,
- 11:02Speaker 1: I don't know who is aware or not, because since
- 11:04Speaker 1: we don't publicize everything we do, but we do supply
- 11:08Speaker 1: meals for Haven House each month, and the reason I'm
- 11:10Speaker 1: bringing this up right now is because we have drivers
- 11:13Speaker 1: that deserve a shout-out. They are behind the scenes and
- 11:15Speaker 1: people don't know what's going on, but they're very faithful
- 11:18Speaker 1: to deliver when called upon. We have a small team,
- 11:21Speaker 1: but they are very faithful. Thank you very much. Goes
- 11:25Speaker 1: to Daniel, Larry, Ann, Lance, and Mr. Brewer. We haven't
- 11:30Speaker 1: set a new date for the yard sale, but we
- 11:32Speaker 1: will keep you posted when the time comes. It hasn't
- 11:35Speaker 1: come together yet, but we're looking for more help. Also,
- 11:39Speaker 1: please remember that we are collecting aluminum tabs and selling
- 11:42Speaker 1: cookbooks for as long as supplies last. Our contact information
- 11:46Speaker 1: is 606-272-1879 or by mail at P.O. Box 1226 Jackson,

- 12:01Speaker 1: Combs Bill Murray is the man. I love movies. I
- 12:07Speaker 1: have certain actors I really like, but when it comes
- 12:09Speaker 1: to actors, my heart will always belong to one man,
- 12:12Speaker 1: Bill Murray. If I break down all his movies and
- 12:15Speaker 1: why I love them, it would take up the rest
- 12:16Speaker 1: of this entire paper. So instead, I'll list my four
- 12:19Speaker 1: favorites in chronological order. Caddyshack, 1980. As Carl Speckler, a
- 12:26Speaker 1: crazy groundskeeper hunting a gopher, Murray steals the show in
- 12:30Speaker 1: a movie that includes Chevy Chase and Rodney Dangerfield. That
- 12:34Speaker 1: alone should tell you how good he is in Caddyshack.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Best line? A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper,
- 12:40Speaker 1: a jock. So I will tell them I'm a pro jock.
- 12:43Speaker 1: And who do you think they gave me? The Dalai
- 12:45Speaker 1: Lama himself, twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes,
- 12:51Speaker 1: the grace, bald, striking. Therefore, I'm on the first tee
- 12:54Speaker 1: with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off
- 12:56Speaker 1: and whacks one. Big hitter, the Lama. Long into a
- 12:59Speaker 1: ten thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of the glacier.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga, gunga
- 13:06Speaker 1: galunga lagunga. Therefore, we finish the eighteenth and he's going
- 13:09Speaker 1: to stiff me. And I say, hey Lama, Hey, how
- 13:11Speaker 1: about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know?
- 13:13Speaker 1: And he says, Oh, there won't be any money, but
- 13:16Speaker 1: when you die on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.
- 13:20Speaker 1: So I got that going for me, which is nice. Ghostbusters, 1984.
- 13:27Speaker 1: A childhood favorite of mine that I once had the
- 13:29Speaker 1: pleasure of showing my daughter, Natalie. We drove 100 miles
- 13:32Speaker 1: just to watch it at the theater at a one-day-only
- 13:35Speaker 1: return to the big screen. It holds up so well,
- 13:38Speaker 1: it may very well be better now than it was
- 13:41Speaker 1: when i was 10 as dr peter venkman murray oozes
- 13:45Speaker 1: cynicism and sleaziness outside of star wars ghostbusters is the
- 13:49Speaker 1: movie i have watched the most in my life best
- 13:52Speaker 1: line human sacrifice dogs and cats living together mass hysteria
- 13:58Speaker 1: groundhog day 1993 the movie about a weatherman in a
- 14:02Speaker 1: foul mood that relives the same day repeatedly that i
- 14:06Speaker 1: can watch over and repeatedly Three of the films on
- 14:09Speaker 1: this list are collaborations between Murray and Harold Ramis. It's
- 14:12Speaker 1: too bad they never made a movie together after Groundhog Day.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Best line? You want a prediction about the weather? You're
- 14:18Speaker 1: asking the wrong Phil. I'll give you a winter prediction.
- 14:21Speaker 1: It's going to be cold, it's going to be gray,
- 14:23Speaker 1: and it's going to last you the rest of your life. Rushmore, 1998.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Legend has it that after Murray read the script for Rushmore,
- 14:31Speaker 1: he liked it so much he offered to do the
- 14:33Speaker 1: film for free, and with good reason. As eccentric millionaire...
- 14:37Speaker 1: Herman Bloom, Murray gives what is his finest cinematic performance.
- 14:41Speaker 1: He should have won Best Supporting Actor that year, but
- 14:43Speaker 1: wasn't even nominated. Best Line. You guys have it real easy.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I never had it like this where I grew up.
- 14:50Speaker 1: But I send my kids here because the fact is
- 14:52Speaker 1: you go to one of the best schools in the country, Rushmore.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Now for some of you, it doesn't matter. You were
- 14:57Speaker 1: born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's
- 14:59Speaker 1: my advice to the rest of you. Take dead aim
- 15:01Speaker 1: on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and
- 15:04Speaker 1: take them down. Just remember they can buy anything. but
- 15:07Speaker 1: they can't buy a backbone. Don't let them forget it.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Thank you. See you at the movies. Life on the
- 15:14Speaker 1: Old Dirt Road by Bobby Thorpe Teen Years Growing up
- 15:19Speaker 1: through my teen years in the 80s, I enjoyed music,
- 15:22Speaker 1: riding around, and playing video games. Also, I enjoyed working
- 15:26Speaker 1: my first paying jobs. During the 80s, we enjoyed listening
- 15:30Speaker 1: to some good music by Prince, Michael Jackson, Steppenwolf, Rolling Stones, Meatloaf,
- 15:35Speaker 1: and many other artists. Several friends, family members, and I
- 15:41Speaker 1: loved cruising around town and stopping at Druthers or Hardee's
- 15:45Speaker 1: to order a burger. Occasionally, we would get pulled over
- 15:47Speaker 1: by George Lee, who was always stern but very professional
- 15:50Speaker 1: about teenage boys being out in town after 10. George
- 15:54Speaker 1: was a great contributor to our community. I can remember
- 15:57Speaker 1: playing card games such as Rummy, Solitaire, Rook, and Uno.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Atari 2600 came out during that time frame, and I
- 16:04Speaker 1: was introduced to Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Pitfall. I also
- 16:08Speaker 1: enjoyed playing the space games. During my junior year of
- 16:12Speaker 1: high school, I worked my first paying job at Hardee's,
- 16:14Speaker 1: followed by Little Caesar's Pizza. It was great earning a
- 16:17Speaker 1: paycheck as a teenager. During the winter months, my friends
- 16:20Speaker 1: and I would get out in the snow at night
- 16:22Speaker 1: and find an old coal truck fire or car tire
- 16:25Speaker 1: to build us a bonfire. These are great memories from
- 16:28Speaker 1: life on the old dirt road. From the Counselor's Desk
- 16:33Speaker 1: by Randy Cloth Choosing Love and Joy One Day at
- 16:37Speaker 1: a Time In the Bible, Galatians chapter 5 presents the
- 16:41Speaker 1: fruit of the Spirit. They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
- 16:48Speaker 1: and self-control. What would the world be like if each
- 16:52Speaker 1: one exhibited more of these? Let's start by focusing on
- 16:55Speaker 1: these traits, perhaps one each day or for a week. First,
- 16:59Speaker 1: I would recommend asking the Holy Spirit for help to
- 17:02Speaker 1: be more loving, for instance. Each one we meet, we think,
- 17:06Speaker 1: how can I be more loving towards this person? Some
- 17:09Speaker 1: people are honestly hard to love, but we should strive
- 17:12Speaker 1: to be loving, kind, caring, expressed by our words, actions,
- 17:16Speaker 1: and attitude. We need to strive to care for each
- 17:19Speaker 1: other's burdens. Another biblical concept. We can use common sense
- 17:24Speaker 1: and reason in this, and I'm not saying we should
- 17:26Speaker 1: allow others to hurt or mistreat us, even though some
- 17:29Speaker 1: of this goes with the territory. Next, we'll look at
- 17:32Speaker 1: how to develop more joy in our lives. Focus on
- 17:36Speaker 1: the good things in your world. Go ahead and think
- 17:39Speaker 1: of three things to be thankful for. We would all
- 17:42Speaker 1: do well to be more thankful and experience more gratitude.
- 17:46Speaker 1: The other day I was feeling dizzy and slightly nauseous.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I got alone by myself, poured out my heart to God,
- 17:52Speaker 1: asking for help and healing. I was sure to pray
- 17:54Speaker 1: for others too. Then I sang a couple of hymns,
- 17:57Speaker 1: including Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee. This hymn was taken
- 18:01Speaker 1: from one of Henry Van Dyck's poems in a book
- 18:03Speaker 1: of his from 1911. Especially meaningful to me was the
- 18:07Speaker 1: line that said, Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
- 18:10Speaker 1: drive the dark of doubt away. Sometimes prayer and praise
- 18:14Speaker 1: like this helps a lot. Immediately, and sometimes it's just
- 18:17Speaker 1: a start towards feeling better or at least handling things better.
- 18:21Speaker 1: We need to work hard to be more loving and joyful,
- 18:24Speaker 1: even when it's hard. No matter what challenges you may
- 18:27Speaker 1: be facing, keep hoping, praying, believing, and trusting. And never
- 18:32Speaker 1: give up. Remember to take care of yourself. If you
- 18:36Speaker 1: or someone you know is experiencing severe emotional distress or

- 19:09Speaker 1: important step in caring for mental health. News from Jackson
- 19:12Speaker 1: City School. Jackson City students take steps towards the future
- 19:17Speaker 1: by Iris Terry and Sydney Hayes. The senior seminar class
- 19:21Speaker 1: at Jackson City High School is working to help students
- 19:24Speaker 1: prepare for their futures after graduation. One of the main
- 19:27Speaker 1: goals of the class is to help students find and
- 19:29Speaker 1: apply for scholarships that can help pay for college and
- 19:33Speaker 1: other educational opportunities. The class is also encouraging students to
