- 0:20Speaker 1: finally arrived. That means the Tailgate is back now a
- 0:25Speaker 1: little bit of a change, folks. You've gotten used to
- 0:28Speaker 1: me bringing on my comedic friends, celebrities, et cetera, talking
- 0:33Speaker 1: back and forth with an enemy. Essentially, somebody who's a
- 0:37Speaker 1: fan of the opposing team. Changed it up this year.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Decided to con Chad Daniels into joining me nearly every
- 0:44Speaker 1: week so we can talk about who we're playing, the
- 0:48Speaker 1: city that that team exists in, and whatever else comes
- 0:51Speaker 1: across our brain. So, if you love Chad, you love comedy,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and you like me, I think you're gonna love another
- 0:57Speaker 1: season of the show. Well you're here, leave us a review.
- 0:59Speaker 1: It'll really help us out enjoy the show. Everybody, Recket Reckett.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Come on, I'm here, Hey, Viking fans, Welcome to another
- 1:18Speaker 1: season of The Tailgate, brought to you by Ticketmaster. I'm
- 1:22Speaker 1: your host Y Aminson, and we are starting out the
- 1:25Speaker 1: season against the hated Chicago Bears and their new look offense.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And hey, speaking of new looks. For those of you
- 1:33Speaker 1: who've been fans of the show for the last couple
- 1:35Speaker 1: of years, you know what we do is each and
- 1:38Speaker 1: every week we bring on a famous comedian or entertainer
- 1:42Speaker 1: who is a fan of the opposing team. Well, this year,
- 1:47Speaker 1: I have conned one of my best friends into being
- 1:51Speaker 1: the guest. I'm gonna say most of the weeks. Is
- 1:53Speaker 1: that fair? A lot of the weeks? I think it
- 1:55Speaker 1: is a lot of the weeks. Ladies and gentlemen, We're
- 1:59Speaker 1: not We're not our team against their team. Welcome for
- 2:04Speaker 1: the season to the program, the great Chad Daniels burn.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I am so excited for football I can't even hardly
- 2:14Speaker 2: stand it.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I am both immensely pumped and concerned. The fact that
- 2:21Speaker 1: because you and I die hard Viking fans, friends for
- 2:24Speaker 1: a long day, right, but when put together, when allowed
- 2:27Speaker 1: to enjoy sports together. The fact that the team is
- 2:31Speaker 1: allowing us to have this show, which means we are
- 2:33Speaker 1: going to be at games together, to give us that
- 2:36Speaker 1: sort of access as a pair, high level risk.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I think this is a bad idea. But what are
- 2:42Speaker 2: you gonna do? You want Swarts and you want Dumel,
- 2:45Speaker 2: you want the number three and four Vikings fans. That
- 2:48Speaker 2: sounds stupid.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Yeah, come on, what are we doing? Let's let two
- 2:51Speaker 1: maniacs that I would say. Here's the thing. I think
- 2:54Speaker 1: a lot of people know who you are, and barely
- 2:56Speaker 1: anybody knows who I am. Give them a show, let them,
- 3:00Speaker 1: let them walk around the stadium, and let's let's see
- 3:03Speaker 1: what happens.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I can't wait, I.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Will say for all, because I don't know that we
- 3:09Speaker 1: enjoy games well together because of our mix of personality.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's basically your bad attitude, I don't, and then
- 3:15Speaker 2: your good attitude, and then your bad attitude. You are
- 3:17Speaker 2: so sibylish at games.
- 3:19Speaker 1: It's unbelievable, the fact that you have to force words
- 3:23Speaker 1: like sibylish in as you introduce yourself to the audience.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Exactly, it's exactly the word you need to use.
- 3:29Speaker 1: You call me out for my bad attitude, and everybody
- 3:31Speaker 1: gives you a pass for your bad attitude.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Because myattitude, my bad attitude, is right. I call it
- 3:38Speaker 2: a battitude, and it's correct. That's why because every time
- 3:43Speaker 2: I say something negative, it turns out six years in
- 3:46Speaker 2: the future it's correct.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that's fine, let's silver line in it. Okay, despite
- 3:52Speaker 1: what will happen between the two of us emotionally, as
- 3:55Speaker 1: we are more connected during football than we've ever been,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I will say when we are at events together, let's
- 4:01Speaker 1: talk that big final Twins game of that magical one
- 4:04Speaker 1: to sixty three year.
- 4:05Speaker 2: That was fun.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Guess who was sitting next to one another in the stadium.
- 4:08Speaker 2: That's right, you and I.
- 4:09Speaker 1: That big Niners win where Addison took that ball away
- 4:12Speaker 1: from the other guy ran it in big win, one
- 4:15Speaker 1: of the signature wins of that scene.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Incredible.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Guess who is on the field together before the game?
- 4:20Speaker 2: Uh? Huh? You and I.
- 4:21Speaker 1: And the last time that we watched a game together
- 4:24Speaker 1: was the first Josh Dobbs game. That absurd.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yes, that's right.
- 4:29Speaker 1: So I do think there's a chance that once this
- 4:32Speaker 1: season has ended and we're playing for the most important trophy,
- 4:37Speaker 1: that a lot of people will owe us a debt
- 4:39Speaker 1: of gratitude that we persevered our old man bickering in
- 4:43Speaker 1: order to provide the fan base with the victories they
- 4:47Speaker 1: so desperately need.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Sure, well, you need to know that I'm using this
- 4:50Speaker 2: show as a stepping stool to become the pregame DJ
- 4:54Speaker 2: yeah at us Bank Stadium. So as soon as soon
- 4:56Speaker 2: as I get that, that's over, bye bye. Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 1: It sucks that you think that the point is I'm pumped.
- 5:03Speaker 2: I'm so bumped.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I need you to respect me. More can't happen despite
- 5:07Speaker 1: what you just said, it can't happen. I need a
- 5:09Speaker 1: little bit of space to be who I am on
- 5:12Speaker 1: text messages this year. That's all I'm asking for. But
- 5:14Speaker 1: here's here's what I've decided for the show, because I
- 5:17Speaker 1: don't think anybody wants to hear you and I break
- 5:20Speaker 1: down how our backup tight.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Ends x'es and o's. Nobody wants x's and o's unless
- 5:26Speaker 2: the're hugs and kiss.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Here's how I think they're gonna utilize THEO Jackson this week.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Everybody click, let's let's turn anything else on. So I've
- 5:34Speaker 1: got a segment here that I'm calling love it, hate it? Okay,
- 5:36Speaker 1: cause you know me, I get pretty aggressive and you
- 5:40Speaker 1: get pretty aggressive going into games. So I thought I
- 5:43Speaker 1: would list out and we'll go. I'm gonna go back
- 5:45Speaker 1: and forth, give you one then the other kind of
- 5:47Speaker 1: even it out. Okay, give you some things that I
- 5:49Speaker 1: love about the city of Chicago or the Bears, and
- 5:53Speaker 1: then I'm gonna I'm gonna blammel right next to it.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna put some stuff that I very much don't love. Okay,
- 5:59Speaker 1: and I'll see where you land on it sounds good.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I love that the Chicago Bears had a streak of
- 6:06Speaker 1: thirty years where they did not have a Pro Bowl
- 6:10Speaker 1: quarterback like that, like and I note, yes, you're saying,
- 6:12Speaker 1: like love it. I didn't know that these were going
- 6:14Speaker 1: to be like really, Caddy, you.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Know, Jabs, Yeah, I did think you were gonna say
- 6:20Speaker 2: something you actually loved. You're saying you love it because
- 6:23Speaker 2: they are the Bears and have had not great question.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Now, let me tell you I have some things that
- 6:27Speaker 1: I do really love that I do think is amazing
- 6:29Speaker 1: about their franchise. But I did want to start with
- 6:31Speaker 1: this one. And it's not even about them. I'm not
- 6:33Speaker 1: taking a jab at them, but it's like an all
- 6:36Speaker 1: time thing for us that we had Fran Tarkenton. And
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'm not saying we haven't had some good quarterbacks along
- 6:41Speaker 1: the way, but we haven't had the guy one of
- 6:44Speaker 1: the handful of like long career guys that is at
- 6:48Speaker 1: the top of the league.
- 6:50Speaker 2: We get the guys after they've had a long career.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah. I to me, it's not about criticizing the Bears.
- 6:57Speaker 1: What it's about is feeling good about myself at the
- 7:01Speaker 1: fault of others, which is also not a good thing.
- 7:03Speaker 2: It's not a great quality.
- 7:05Speaker 1: It's like being thirty nine years old and single and
- 7:07Speaker 1: everybody wants to know when you're getting married, and you're
- 7:10Speaker 1: just you really don't feel good about yourself. And then
- 7:12Speaker 1: you go to that family wedding and an uncle sits
- 7:15Speaker 1: down next to you that you haven't seen in a while,
- 7:17Speaker 1: and he's been divorced four or five times and he's
- 7:19Speaker 1: got like all he talks about is gout. And you're like,
- 7:22Speaker 1: you know what, I got my whole life ahead of me.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I've been I've been doing great until the uric acid
- 7:29Speaker 1: in my bones isn't even remotely at a concerning level. Right.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I love that streak makes me feel good about myself.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, here's what I love. I love and
- 7:39Speaker 2: this is like a this is a positive thing. There's
- 7:42Speaker 2: a story where the Bears were playing Oh man, was
- 7:47Speaker 2: it the Falcons. When Jerry Glanville was there, people started
- 7:51Speaker 2: throwing batteries at Soldier field, at the opposing players. And
- 7:58Speaker 2: at least this is how I remember the story, haven't
- 8:00Speaker 2: I haven't fact checked it. But then Walter Payton comes
- 8:03Speaker 2: back out of the tunnel with all his pads off,
- 8:06Speaker 2: He's just in a T shirt. He puts his arm
- 8:08Speaker 2: around Jerry Glanville. I think that's who it was, and
- 8:11Speaker 2: walks him out. I think Walter Peyton, as much as
- 8:15Speaker 2: you know, growing up a Vikings fan and disliking the Bears,
- 8:19Speaker 2: Walter Peyton was that guy that you kind of like.
- 8:23Speaker 2: You go, ah, the that we're playing the Bears, stupid bear.
- 8:27Speaker 2: But what But secretly you always had a crush on
- 8:30Speaker 2: Walter Pateon.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Let's just go down the likes because now we've launched,
- 8:34Speaker 1: I can go down all the likes because I think
- 8:35Speaker 1: you're an all time villain. And I'll bring this back
- 8:38Speaker 1: to Walter Payton, but you're an all time villain. If
- 8:42Speaker 1: you don't love the concept of William the Refrigerator Perry, right,
- 8:48Speaker 1: I mean, he would have to be the sole reason
- 8:51Speaker 1: that might like and the only reason one hundred percent
- 8:55Speaker 1: of the reason that my favorite team didn't win a
- 8:57Speaker 1: Super Bowl. Like, and I was trying to think when
- 8:59Speaker 1: I was trying to find things that I could stomach.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Chicago on I was like, is that the greatest nickname
- 9:07Speaker 1: in sports history? The refrigerator?
- 9:10Speaker 2: Yeah, because even because you look at the Detroit Pistons
- 9:12Speaker 2: they stole, they were like, oh how about the ice box?
- 9:16Speaker 2: I mean, the refrigerator really started something.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I went on the internet and I was like, what
- 9:20Speaker 1: nick what are considered the greatest names? And the list
- 9:22Speaker 1: that I found, he was number ten, which did not
- 9:26Speaker 1: seem correct at all.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Gotta'd be some real good ones there.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Well, you just forget you forget that air Jordan at
- 9:32Speaker 1: one point that wasn't a name, and that Irvin was
- 9:35Speaker 1: never called magic, Like that is an actual nickname. And
- 9:39Speaker 1: I believe it's Walter Payton. Isn't Walter Payton sweetness?
- 9:41Speaker 2: Sweetness?
- 9:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that is a top five. I forget
- 9:45Speaker 1: who the dude in the NBA is, But they called
- 9:47Speaker 1: him Microwave because he'd come in and he'd heat up
- 9:51Speaker 1: really quick. Oh funny, that's a great name. I think
- 9:54Speaker 1: kitchen appliance names are just real, real, real good.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I also love White Chocolate.
- 9:59Speaker 1: White Chocolate, that was a good one. Absolutely. Have you
- 10:03Speaker 1: ever watched old highlights of Randy Moss and White Chocolate
- 10:08Speaker 1: were on the same high school basketball team. Dude, if
- 10:12Speaker 1: you think you love Randy Moss, already watch White Chocolate
- 10:15Speaker 1: throwing a behind the back alley loop to Randy Moss.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Yeah, really, really incredible. Now let's go back to Refrigerator
- 10:22Speaker 2: for just a second. I mean, not only was he great,
- 10:25Speaker 2: not only did he knock linebackers on their back, but
- 10:30Speaker 2: he also gave every little kid with a space in
- 10:35Speaker 2: between their two front teeth purpose.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Yeah some hope. Yeah, the fridge out here given hope.
- 10:41Speaker 2: This is way before Michael Strahan. You think Michael Strahan
- 10:44Speaker 2: smiles into a camera on Good Morning America or whatever
- 10:46Speaker 2: show he's on with that space in between his teeth.
- 10:49Speaker 2: If there wasn't for Refrigerator Perry, that would have gotten fixed.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Easy. Refrigerator Perry slowly walked so Michael Strahan could slowly run.
- 11:00Speaker 1: This is an easy one. The Super Bowl Shuffle. Now,
- 11:03Speaker 1: I don't need to spend a lot of time on
- 11:04Speaker 1: the Super Bowl Shuffle, but what I was thinking was,
- 11:06Speaker 1: if you had to pick and I think everybody does
- 11:09Speaker 1: ninety eight because everybody anytime you ask about a Viking team,
- 11:12Speaker 1: everybody goes to ninety eight. But if you had to
- 11:14Speaker 1: pick any Vikings team from history that made their own
- 11:20Speaker 1: like eighties hip hop music video or rap video, do
- 11:24Speaker 1: you have a pick?
- 11:25Speaker 2: I mean, I want to ninety eight, of course is
- 11:28Speaker 2: probably the favorite pick. I'd like to go ninety seven
- 11:32Speaker 2: just to make sure Brad Johnson has a partner, just
- 11:35Speaker 2: to watch him do it.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I also think any of the years Tys was the coach,
- 11:41Speaker 1: Yeah you could see, I mean Tys feels like you're
- 11:43Speaker 1: like it's a hip hop video and here comes Mike
- 11:45Speaker 1: Tys with sunglasses and a you know, and a saxophone
- 11:48Speaker 1: around the corner, Like I didn't know they were gonna
- 11:50Speaker 1: have sacks in this one. I think two thousand and
- 11:53Speaker 1: nine would have been a good one. There was so
- 11:55Speaker 1: much personality on the team with Jared Allen, the Williams
- 11:58Speaker 1: yep ap far of the whole thing. But I also
- 12:01Speaker 1: was trying to think just there was that run of years,
- 12:05Speaker 1: like because before before two thousand and nine, I think
- 12:10Speaker 1: we hadn't won a division in like nine years, and
- 12:14Speaker 1: I know we made the playoffs in four that was
- 12:16Speaker 1: the famous mooning game. There's there's a music video right
- 12:20Speaker 1: there that comes off of that moment. But there are
- 12:23Speaker 1: some forgotten Vikings that I really love and the Vikings hold.
- 12:29Speaker 1: One of the all time names in NFL history Wasawas Sirwanga. Yeah,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and I think he was on a pretty bad team,
- 12:37Speaker 1: so I could sure go for a Vikings music video
- 12:39Speaker 1: called the waswas Sir Wanga shuffle?
- 12:42Speaker 2: Mm hmm. That's going to confuse some people.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I think that does it for me. But yeah, I'm
- 12:46Speaker 1: with you. I think the winner is probably anything that
- 12:49Speaker 1: involves Brad Johnson.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I think so too. Also. I mean, shut your eyes,
- 12:54Speaker 2: shut your eyes right now. I'm gonna say a name
- 12:56Speaker 2: and tell me what comes to your head. Darren Nelson
- 12:59Speaker 2: that you're way older than me.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Okay, let me give you one more thing I love
- 13:08Speaker 1: about last Love. There is a famous I'm a big,
- 13:15Speaker 1: big man touchdown guy. I love him, Okay, big rumbling,
- 13:19Speaker 1: stumbling you know, Garrett Bradberry. He didn't score, touch him,
- 13:23Speaker 1: but seventy yards down the field with the ball. Love it.
- 13:26Speaker 1: The Bears have, in my opinion, one that's on Mount Rushmore.
- 13:30Speaker 1: If you're not familiar all you got to do is
- 13:32Speaker 1: put this name into the Google search and then come
- 13:34Speaker 1: back to the show. Keith Traylor like Tractor Trailer, a
- 13:39Speaker 1: big old man who got an interception off of Mark
- 13:43Speaker 1: Brunel and ran it a pick six, ran it so
- 13:47Speaker 1: far and so funny that the announcers started riffing like
- 13:51Speaker 1: it was Mystery Science Theater three thousand. It's it's maybe
- 13:57Speaker 1: if you were like, give me the one hundred greatest
- 14:00Speaker 1: clips in NFL history. Yeah, you gotta have the miracle
- 14:02Speaker 1: and the catch and all these things. I think it
- 14:05Speaker 1: makes it. It's have you seen that video?
- 14:08Speaker 2: I'm sure I've seen the actual thing.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Yeah, dude. And to just to be a he's three
- 14:12Speaker 1: hundred and forty or whatever pound man whose last name
- 14:15Speaker 1: is trailer, it's gonna be good unless you have a
- 14:18Speaker 1: guy named Jimmy semi truck Scoop six for like ninety yards,
- 14:24Speaker 1: that's gonna be a pretty hard one to be.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Well, it take it took him so long to run
- 14:27Speaker 2: it back that they actually played an episode of Mystery
- 14:30Speaker 2: Science Thee to three thousand. I think that's what you're
- 14:32Speaker 2: thinking of.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Okay, can I give you my list of hates?
- 14:36Speaker 2: Ready?
- 14:37Speaker 1: I don't like going to Chicago. Why No, I don't
- 14:39Speaker 1: mean as a human. I mean as a team. I
- 14:41Speaker 1: don't know what it is about. I don't know if
- 14:45Speaker 1: other teams have it. But we could be fourteen and
- 14:48Speaker 1: zher and they could be zero and fourteen, and it's
- 14:50Speaker 1: gonna be a meat grinder. That's how it's been for
- 14:54Speaker 1: all my life and specifically my adult life. My dad,
- 14:58Speaker 1: who I've talked about on this show, wh you know, well,
- 15:01Speaker 1: he gets worked up. Yeah, and so he he always
- 15:06Speaker 1: calls the in Chicago game. He calls it Bears bye
- 15:09Speaker 1: week because he can't watch it. He gets so stressed
- 15:13Speaker 1: out by what he thinks is gonna happen, and he
- 15:16Speaker 1: just he takes a walk or he goes pheasant hunting.
- 15:19Speaker 1: He just now it's it's season opener. So I think
- 15:21Speaker 1: that's gonna be difficult for him. But I just never
- 15:24Speaker 1: like how my expectations are met with the reality of
- 15:28Speaker 1: a meat grinder in Chicago.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean I've been there for the Vikes game.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I've been to Soldier Field and it was it was tough.
- 15:37Speaker 2: You're walking through the parking lot, You're getting stuff thrown
- 15:39Speaker 2: at you in your vikings Jersey and everybody's you know,
- 15:43Speaker 2: and it's hard. It's hard to take a threat seriously
- 15:47Speaker 2: when they sound like the detective from that Harrison Ford
- 15:51Speaker 2: movie where he goes, are you telling so one thing here?
- 15:56Speaker 2: You say your wife was killed within a one armed man?
- 16:00Speaker 2: I mean, and they're like throwing that accent at you,
- 16:03Speaker 2: and you get what with beers and you go, what's
- 16:06Speaker 2: even happening? It doesn't make sense. So I'm so confused.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I go into the game. There's a group of people
- 16:13Speaker 2: that everyone loves in the stadium and they are in
- 16:17Speaker 2: front of us by the goalpost, and that I am
- 16:20Speaker 2: standing up because Dante Culpeper is getting murdered and they're
- 16:26Speaker 2: not calling anything, and so I stand up and I
- 16:28Speaker 2: start screaming, and this guy from this group turns around
- 16:31Speaker 2: yells at me, and then I yell something and I'm
- 16:33Speaker 2: gonna tell you something home game so funny, so incredibly
- 16:40Speaker 2: funny that I cannot say on this show. But everyone
- 16:44Speaker 2: starts booing me. I mean, and I'm telling you it
- 16:47Speaker 2: is death threats. I have changed their accents. Now they
- 16:50Speaker 2: are very they're talking very seriously to me about what
- 16:54Speaker 2: I've just said, to the point where I'm getting threats,
- 16:57Speaker 2: and so I go up and I have I sign
- 17:00Speaker 2: up for a Chicago Bears visa card so I can
- 17:05Speaker 2: get the free gift, which is a Chicago Bear's fleece
- 17:09Speaker 2: throw blanket so I can wrap myself up in that
- 17:13Speaker 2: so I don't get murdered. And the Bears end up winning.
- 17:18Speaker 2: And then here's what happens in the Midwest at games.
- 17:22Speaker 2: When your team wins, then all of the all of
- 17:26Speaker 2: the violence can stop. And so now we're walking back
- 17:30Speaker 2: to our car through the parking lot after the game,
- 17:33Speaker 2: and people are walking up handing us a beer, going,
- 17:36Speaker 2: hey man, you probably need this. It's like what has happened.
- 17:39Speaker 2: It's like going to a game with you listening to
- 17:42Speaker 2: your back and forth.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I don't need that. But I agree with you. Every
- 17:45Speaker 1: Chicago sporting and that's my number two on that don't
- 17:48Speaker 1: love it list, is every Chicago sporting event I've ever
- 17:51Speaker 1: gone to has ended really poorly for me. It's and
- 17:55Speaker 1: I don't and I agree with you. It's hard to
- 17:59Speaker 1: It's hard to have a guy who looks like he
- 18:02Speaker 1: quit his like his independent minor league baseball managerial job,
- 18:07Speaker 1: to sell beef jerky for a startup. It's hard to
- 18:10Speaker 1: have a guy who, yeah, you like this, That is
- 18:13Speaker 1: a hard thing for you to just take and then
- 18:16Speaker 1: not go back at. But Chicago's one of those cities
- 18:19Speaker 1: Mike Tys to Mike Tys references in this podcast or
- 18:22Speaker 1: any theme, Mike Tys calls it tough guy town, and
- 18:28Speaker 1: those people believe it. So when they say something funny
- 18:32Speaker 1: and then you say something funny back, yours was not funny, partner,
- 18:36Speaker 1: and I have a problem with you. And uh, I'm
- 18:40Speaker 1: I'm oh. For every Chicago game I've ever gone, leaving
- 18:44Speaker 1: and going that was that rocked, it's always we gotta
- 18:48Speaker 1: get to the car. We gotta get to the car.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I will also say I can't go to Chicago without
- 18:55Speaker 1: somebody accurately and meanly street hackling me.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Last time I did Zanies, I was walking from the
- 19:05Speaker 1: hotel to Zany's and somebody called me a ghost cowboy.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I'm pretty skinny right now. I wasn't wearing a cowboy hat.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I was like, ghost cowboy, what's that? And then I
- 19:16Speaker 1: went I got into the club and I went to
- 19:19Speaker 1: the bathroom and I looked at myself in the mirror
- 19:21Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, no, ghost cowboy. So that city.
- 19:27Speaker 1: It is a tough guy town, and I think I'm
- 19:30Speaker 1: a soft boy. I think that's my last thing about
- 19:33Speaker 1: Chicago is when I have to go there, I'm a
- 19:35Speaker 1: soft boy and a tough guy town, and it doesn't
- 19:37Speaker 1: it's not good for me.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you one more thing I like
- 19:40Speaker 2: about it. I went there once and I was walking
- 19:42Speaker 2: into uh, I can't remember the name of the place,
- 19:44Speaker 2: Deep Dish Pizza, famous for it, Gino zi'st that's what's
- 19:48Speaker 2: And this guy has a little milk crate and some
- 19:50Speaker 2: shoe shining stuff and he goes, hey, I'd like to
- 19:52Speaker 2: shine your shoes, and I go, oh, thinks anyways, man,
- 19:55Speaker 2: He goes, well, how about this. He goes, if it's
- 19:57Speaker 2: twenty bucks. If I'm going to tell you a rid.
- 20:00Speaker 2: If you get it right, then I'll shine him for free.
- 20:03Speaker 2: If you get it wrong, you pay me forty for
- 20:06Speaker 2: the shine. And I go, I like riddles, Okay, well
- 20:09Speaker 2: completely burned me right, So I pay him forty bucks,
- 20:12Speaker 2: and I won't let him shine my shoes because I
- 20:14Speaker 2: hate that so much. Yeah, I hate having another person
- 20:16Speaker 2: doing that kind of work for me absolutely, And so
- 20:20Speaker 2: I just lost forty bucks. But I did love it,
- 20:22Speaker 2: because what a hard burn.
- 20:24Speaker 1: I love a good Yeah. If more of Chicago, if
- 20:27Speaker 1: you just treated all of Chicago like, oh, you got
- 20:29Speaker 1: to go into Walgreens, here's a here's just a little,
- 20:32Speaker 1: a little tiny little hey, hey, you want to get
- 20:35Speaker 1: in the door, here's your riddle. I don't know what
- 20:37Speaker 1: accent that was. I think I think I.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Shifted Gangs of New York save it for the Giants episode.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I think I should. I think I shifted if Chicago
- 20:47Speaker 1: was accessed all over the place by riddle riddle laden
- 20:53Speaker 1: men who looked like they were on the Mike Ditka sketch.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Yes on SNL. I'm way back in on that sit.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Here's what I would love for a rule in Chicago
- 21:04Speaker 2: at Bears games, no Bears hats. You can wear Bears jerseys.
- 21:07Speaker 2: You can wear Bears zubas and god do you I
- 21:10Speaker 2: know they do it. Yeah, but here is what I
- 21:13Speaker 2: think you should have to do. You should have to
- 21:16Speaker 2: wear either your White Sox hat or your Cubs hat.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Oh that way, I know who I can beat up
- 21:23Speaker 2: in a film, and that is what I would love
- 21:27Speaker 2: to do. Hey, White Sox fan, you want to throw
- 21:29Speaker 2: that beer at me? That's fine. But if I get
- 21:32Speaker 2: hit with a hot dog by a guy in a
- 21:34Speaker 2: Cubs hat, Oh it's on, baby.
- 21:36Speaker 1: We're about to wrestle on a stairwell.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 21:40Speaker 1: All right, Let's let's talk about the game a little
- 21:42Speaker 1: bit because we do again. We're not going to break
- 21:44Speaker 1: it down. That's not what you We'll just talk about
- 21:46Speaker 1: it as fans. This is the first time the Vikings
- 21:50Speaker 1: have gone on the road to face the Bears in
- 21:51Speaker 1: the regular season opener since two thousand and two. That
- 21:54Speaker 1: game actually not played in the stadium. It was at
- 21:57Speaker 1: the University of Illinois in champ Compangna because of the
- 22:03Speaker 1: renovations being done to Soldier Field. Everybody's talking about a
- 22:07Speaker 1: lot of stuff. I am the number one talker is
- 22:11Speaker 1: JJ JJ McCarthy. I'm in, but I'm not in in
- 22:17Speaker 1: the way other people are in. You have people exalting
- 22:20Speaker 1: this dude. You have people like he's the friend, Like
- 22:23Speaker 1: I'm just in because of the possibility. I have this
- 22:27Speaker 1: sports rule that I stole from our friend Kevin Boseman.
- 22:30Speaker 2: OK.
- 22:30Speaker 1: And it's that I am not smart enough or talented
- 22:34Speaker 1: enough to make decisions like I'm not an owner who
- 22:38Speaker 1: is smart enough to hire a coach or a GM just.
- 22:40Speaker 2: A second, Hey, Jay, can we clip that last thing?
- 22:42Speaker 2: Not smart enough and talented enough?
- 22:44Speaker 1: Jay, Let's go ahead and unclip that last.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Thing that's gonna be my text tune.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Let's unclip it. Uh. I Just so, I think our
- 22:53Speaker 1: coach who we talked about this, look what he did
- 22:56Speaker 1: with Josh Dobbs look at like, yeah, whatever he decides
- 22:59Speaker 1: at quarterback. If he came out at a press conference,
- 23:01Speaker 1: he's like, Hey, I attached a magnetic wiggle arm to
- 23:07Speaker 1: the printer in my office, and you should see this
- 23:10Speaker 1: thing throw a slant route. I'd be like, I bet
- 23:12Speaker 1: he knows what he's talking about. He he has earned this.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Let's see what happens with the guy that he believes in.
- 23:19Speaker 1: So the fact that he's in on JJ, I'm very innunt,
- 23:22Speaker 1: but I'm in on the possibility, don't. I don't want
- 23:25Speaker 1: to say he's gonna be great. I don't want all
- 23:27Speaker 1: these people who are predicting all these things. I just
- 23:30Speaker 1: like that the first half of the season and potentially
- 23:33Speaker 1: the whole season, we are gonna find out. We talked
- 23:37Speaker 1: about that Bears streak. We're gonna find out if we
- 23:41Speaker 1: possibly have a guy and that feeling because I don't
- 23:45Speaker 1: think you ever felt it with Ponder, I don't think
- 23:47Speaker 1: you ever felt it with Tavares Jackson. I don't think
- 23:51Speaker 1: we have truly felt Teddy. I could say you probably
- 23:54Speaker 1: felt it a little bit about everybody loves Teddy, but
- 23:57Speaker 1: it wasn't when Dante started and he was part of
- 24:00Speaker 1: that powerful offense within a couple of years, and then
- 24:03Speaker 1: all of a sudden, he's an MVP candidate, second place
- 24:06Speaker 1: in the voting, Like that's the last time we've felt like, whoa,
- 24:10Speaker 1: Maybe it's finally our turn for a top three, top
- 24:14Speaker 1: five guy, And I just think the possibility of that
- 24:18Speaker 1: is fun. So I'm going to enjoy that potential.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean speaking on Koc's ability to be and
- 24:25Speaker 2: you know he has been coined the quarterback Whisperer. It's
- 24:28Speaker 2: a fresh start. We're not going after this quarterback that's
- 24:32Speaker 2: been great on another team for so many years and
- 24:35Speaker 2: paying him this one year contract. We are saying, dude,
- 24:39Speaker 2: we're committing to you, commit to us. And I love
- 24:43Speaker 2: that kind of relationship and I'm excited to see what.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Happens if you had to pick a non JJ McCarthy
- 24:49Speaker 1: addition that you're most pumped about because there are a
- 24:51Speaker 1: lot of changes. You got the O line, the middle
- 24:53Speaker 1: of the D line, the new cornerback, the running back kid.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Like if you had to pick one non j that
- 25:01Speaker 1: because I think often with football teams, if you get
- 25:05Speaker 1: a jump up somewhere, Andrew van Ginkle from last year
- 25:08Speaker 1: is a great example. I think people expected Andrew van
- 25:10Speaker 1: Gingkle to be a player. No one expected what we got.
- 25:13Speaker 1: When you get that jump up there and then you
- 25:15Speaker 1: get a jump up from Darnold, all of a sudden,
- 25:17Speaker 1: you're fourteen and three.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, obviously defense is as a whole looks great.
- 25:25Speaker 2: We've filled some spots on the offensive line, but the
- 25:27Speaker 2: jump up I am most excited about. Mason. I had
- 25:30Speaker 2: this kid. I picked him up on Fantasy last year
- 25:35Speaker 2: after McCaffrey got injured. And because of that, I watch
- 25:40Speaker 2: this guy play who normally I wouldn't have and boy,
- 25:43Speaker 2: oh boy, can this kid scoot?
- 25:45Speaker 1: Yeah? And if he's and that it creates kind of
- 25:48Speaker 1: like it's almost like now with the two offensive linemen
- 25:51Speaker 1: in the middle. I think this is the most autonomy
- 25:55Speaker 1: of or like freedom of decision. The KOC will have
- 25:59Speaker 1: as a coach where he's like, hey, I now have
- 26:01Speaker 1: two running backs. I now have a center of if
- 26:04Speaker 1: if the new alignment workout, you just have pieces everywhere
- 26:07Speaker 1: with theland coming back that you go, oh, I think
- 26:11Speaker 1: he's now in a position to do kind of whatever
- 26:13Speaker 1: he wants and that's fun.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I think so too. I mean, you could put him
- 26:18Speaker 2: out both at the same time. You could. I mean,
- 26:21Speaker 2: these defenses are going to have a hard enough time
- 26:23Speaker 2: in the secondary figuring out who they're gonna.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Double right, absolutely so.
- 26:28Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm a man. I'm stoked about all of
- 26:31Speaker 2: it because it gives Jones a little time to relax,
- 26:34Speaker 2: in time to catch his breath without feeling like you're
- 26:38Speaker 2: putting in u you know, a secondary back.
- 26:42Speaker 1: I mean, I'm gonna throw a pipe dream one at you,
- 26:45Speaker 1: like a by low Sell high one that no one's
- 26:48Speaker 1: talking about because Jeff Akuda, who got drafted by the
- 26:52Speaker 1: Lions and just hasn't had the career people thought he
- 26:55Speaker 1: was gonna have. I have that thing in the back
- 26:57Speaker 1: of my head that's like, but what what is what if?
- 27:01Speaker 1: Because at one point everybody's like, this is the dude, right,
- 27:04Speaker 1: what if? What if he gets in there? With Flores.
- 27:06Speaker 1: What if let me ask you this. I was at
- 27:10Speaker 1: the facility last week. I can't remember his Tuesday or Thursday,
- 27:14Speaker 1: and somebody set a sentence to me that I had
- 27:17Speaker 1: to stop and laugh at. Okay, if you'd have given
- 27:20Speaker 1: me ten thousand guesses at weird sentences, I would have
- 27:23Speaker 1: heard in the Vikings facility this year. I don't think
- 27:27Speaker 1: before the season started I would have heard the sentence
- 27:30Speaker 1: we just got done with the Carson Wentz, Adam Thielen
- 27:34Speaker 1: and Max bros mur Presso.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean talk about Homerville, right, Yeah, it's great.
- 27:41Speaker 2: I mean, so you know, I grew up Fergus Falls,
- 27:44Speaker 2: lived there forever raising kids, so I got to watch
- 27:46Speaker 2: I mean, we didn't have the Minneapolis channels, we had
- 27:49Speaker 2: the Fargo channels. So I'm always watching this guy play.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Was doing well before he got injured, and I'm so
- 27:56Speaker 2: stoked to have him back. I'm stoked to have feeling
- 27:59Speaker 2: back to field. I mean this, you know, everyone goes,
- 28:02Speaker 2: oh man, thelen uh coming back. He's Detroit Lake's guy,
- 28:06Speaker 2: which gets me in my fields because I my grandparents Frasey, you.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Know, my dad's my dad grew up in Detroit Lakes
- 28:14Speaker 1: but they do you get any here's a question living
- 28:17Speaker 1: up there, because we both live up there and near there.
- 28:21Speaker 1: So this is a very different person because Adam Thelen
- 28:24Speaker 1: is so wonderful and so likable. But you know who's
- 28:27Speaker 1: also from where we're from, brock Lesner. That's true, former
- 28:31Speaker 1: former preseason Viking brock Lesner.
- 28:33Speaker 2: But people also wonderful.
- 28:36Speaker 1: People up there are so jacked that he's from there.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Like during the prime of his career, I remember like
- 28:41Speaker 1: on fight nights, you wouldn't even go to a gas
- 28:43Speaker 1: station because guys would just be an inappropriate amount of
- 28:47Speaker 1: jacked up.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and they were.
- 28:48Speaker 1: They were. They were too proud, they were too proud
- 28:53Speaker 1: of brock Lesner being from there. I think we've got
- 28:55Speaker 1: a nice level of Adam Thelen grew up in this
- 28:59Speaker 1: Ara pride. It doesn't there's not like a feeling storefront, right,
- 29:04Speaker 1: you know, it's it's a calm level. So I'm I'm
- 29:07Speaker 1: pump I'm pumped for it as well.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Yeah, brock Lesner, his daughter used to skate against my
- 29:12Speaker 2: daughter in figure skating. Oh really, Yeah, now you know
- 29:15Speaker 2: his daughter's obviously Olympian because you know, oh I didn't know.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Besides on the Yeah she throws for Colorado State. She
- 29:21Speaker 2: throws a shot put.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah, because she throws the I thought you meant
- 29:25Speaker 1: as a figure.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah, No, beg your pardon. She shifted gears in
- 29:29Speaker 2: the most incredible way, except they're spinning involved in both.
- 29:32Speaker 2: So you take what you learned as a child and
- 29:34Speaker 2: you bring it into your collegiate career.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Other than wins and losses, there's the last question I
- 29:39Speaker 1: have for you, because you know, I think it'll be interesting.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Ben Johnson new look offense and as an offensive coordinator.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I think that dude was like five and one against us,
- 29:49Speaker 1: including when we were good. These first two games the
- 29:53Speaker 1: Bears and the Falcons. As you look ahead in the
- 29:55Speaker 1: schedule gets really hard in October, I think these first
- 29:58Speaker 1: two games are going to be I think these are
- 30:02Speaker 1: two really desperate teams to prove themselves and show up
- 30:06Speaker 1: big early. I think you're gonna have like a crazy
- 30:08Speaker 1: fight on your hands. But let's talk broadly before we
- 30:13Speaker 1: do predictions other than wins and losses. What's the thing
- 30:18Speaker 1: that and it can it also can't be JJ Okay,
- 30:21Speaker 1: so I know I already asked you for a prep
- 30:22Speaker 1: but is there anything and it doesn't even have to
- 30:24Speaker 1: necessarily be gameplay specific. But do you have something you're
- 30:27Speaker 1: most looking forward to for the season other than how
- 30:32Speaker 1: well we do and how well JJ does well.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I don't know if this falls in that category, but
- 30:36Speaker 2: beating the Chiefs in the Super Bowl clearly is what
- 30:39Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to because I'm so tired of them.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I'm tired. I'm like, enough is enough.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Let's do. Here's how I want to do predictions this year. Okay,
- 30:49Speaker 1: I want to do a game prediction. Okay, so we're
- 30:53Speaker 1: calling it game player. You so give me a game prediction,
- 30:58Speaker 1: a player that you think is going to play really well,
- 31:00Speaker 1: and give me a Chad Daniel's prediction, and what's gonna
- 31:02Speaker 1: happen for you during the game.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Okay, So game prediction win by double digits.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Player prediction. I'm gonna go with Theland having just a
- 31:15Speaker 2: humongous game.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Dad, you took mine. I had a touchdown for him.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Mine was a touchdown from them.
- 31:20Speaker 2: But I'm gonna say, whoever has him in a PPR
- 31:22Speaker 2: league buckle up, because I think it's gonna be I
- 31:26Speaker 2: don't think it's gonna be like a lot of long
- 31:28Speaker 2: routes I think it's gonna be short under routes, and
- 31:30Speaker 2: I think he's gonna just rack up the points. And
- 31:32Speaker 2: then a Chad prediction, what's gonna happen with me? I
- 31:35Speaker 2: know it's gonna be quiet because the last time the
- 31:38Speaker 2: Vikings played the Bears, the Vikings were up by eleven
- 31:40Speaker 2: with a minute and a half to go, and I
- 31:45Speaker 2: my my girlfriend said hey, congratulations they won and then
- 31:50Speaker 2: it went to overtime and they won by a field goal.
- 31:54Speaker 1: I I will I'm gonna go Vitan one hundred and
- 32:00Speaker 1: twenty seven Bears nineteen?
- 32:03Speaker 2: Love it? Yeah? Is it? Rushing yards?
- 32:06Speaker 1: Took? You took my feeling, So I am. I'm going
- 32:11Speaker 1: to I'm gonna say it's the return of the Hawk. Yeah,
- 32:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna say, you know, Hawk came back last year
- 32:18Speaker 1: you played. But I think we're gonna this might be
- 32:19Speaker 1: the game right out the gate that we go, oh yeah,
- 32:22Speaker 1: he's like way good at this.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:25Speaker 1: So I'm going player prediction, I'm going to Return of
- 32:27Speaker 1: the Hawk. And then personal prediction. I'm gonna say that
- 32:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to spend because it's a Monday night game, right,
- 32:34Speaker 1: so it's gonna be the evening you're gonna have had
- 32:36Speaker 1: a long day, and I can't always guarantee stuff goes
- 32:39Speaker 1: great for you in a long day. So I think
- 32:41Speaker 1: part of my night is going to be dedicated to
- 32:45Speaker 1: arguing with you to let me feel my feelings throughout
- 32:49Speaker 1: the season. Opener, I think you're not gonna let me
- 32:52Speaker 1: be negative when I want to be negative and then
- 32:53Speaker 1: just all of a sudden, be positive again. So that's
- 32:56Speaker 1: my prediction. I think I think our text threat you
- 32:59Speaker 1: me and the baby boy, my nephew Ethan. I think
- 33:03Speaker 1: our text threat is going to be intense on Monday night.
- 33:06Speaker 2: I think so too. And I'm gonna like to make
- 33:07Speaker 2: one more prediction, and it's of the pizza delivery driver
- 33:10Speaker 2: when he comes to my door and he goes hi,
- 33:13Speaker 2: third time this week?
- 33:14Speaker 1: Huh, that's gonna do it? Folks, come back listen to
- 33:19Speaker 1: Chad and I I'm gonna say most of the weeks, he's
- 33:21Speaker 1: going to be here almost all the weeks. When he's
- 33:23Speaker 1: not here, we will have other great friends that you
- 33:25Speaker 1: have come to love over the years on this show
- 33:28Speaker 1: joining us. We love that you listen on the podcast feed.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Thank you well you're here. Give us a good review.
