- 0:00Speaker 1: The Driver's Show. You're a stic guy, like a bit
- 0:03Speaker 1: of stick. Just throttle it, Yeah, just really get onto it.
- 0:08Speaker 1: It's are we still talking about car power?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Mis nano Taylor oil over a century of engineering excellence
- 0:15Speaker 2: meets cutting edge nano scale technology.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Welcome to The Driver's Show podcast. My name is Gordon
- 0:29Speaker 1: and this is my co host Pablo Morak. Hello. I
- 0:36Speaker 1: thought we'll take a professional approach this episode, and this
- 0:39Speaker 1: is how I will be talking. Good to see you
- 0:41Speaker 1: Gordon the entire time. Thank you. Obviously, this podcast is
- 0:46Speaker 1: no longer sponsored by it Amitsu now Volvelene. You know
- 0:50Speaker 1: what I mean? You know what I mean? Sometimes I
- 0:53Speaker 1: like to sit in my bath and soak in some
- 0:56Speaker 1: Velvelene Mortal oil as I rub that stuff all over
- 1:01Speaker 1: my called slippery old nipples.
- 1:05Speaker 3: How's this for funny? The other time I was here,
- 1:08Speaker 3: I had a polestar too, and inside this rental car
- 1:13Speaker 3: they had a sticker for the next service interval and
- 1:15Speaker 3: it was a Velveleene sticker. We're you going to pour that?
- 1:20Speaker 1: That's a really good point.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Yeah, that was funny.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Okay, that's some That's and that was the news segment
- 1:26Speaker 1: we call Paul's Shitty tippit.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Oh thank you, Paul, speaking tidbits. Whatever happened to your
- 1:32Speaker 3: dad's stolen car? You remember how the police you couldn't
- 1:34Speaker 3: get the tracking stuff. Did they ever find the car?
- 1:37Speaker 1: No? But yeah, so the car was on it did it?
- 1:41Speaker 3: No?
- 1:41Speaker 1: But yeah, well the car the tracking device. I should say,
- 1:45Speaker 1: I've got to be careful what I say here. Interesting
- 1:48Speaker 1: lawyer is no longer on the scene.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I thought she took.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Was that. No, she's not a leave, she's there's a
- 2:01Speaker 1: reason I'm saving this macas to feed a family anyway.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So anyway, this is generally where the wheels fall off. No,
- 2:12Speaker 1: so the tracking device of the vehicle pinged back to
- 2:16Speaker 1: the dealership he bought it from in a completely different state,
- 2:20Speaker 1: at the other end of Australia. Oh yeah, you didn't
- 2:24Speaker 1: know that, So I thought.
- 2:26Speaker 3: It pinged to the dealership in Melbourne.
- 2:28Speaker 1: No, he bought it. He bought this car from a dealership.
- 2:32Speaker 1: He's from Melbourne and he bought this car from I
- 2:35Speaker 1: won't say the exact one, but he bought it from
- 2:37Speaker 1: a dealership in Queensland. Because if I tell you which
- 2:40Speaker 1: one it is, you'll be able to know very very quickly.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Because okay, that must mean they just never set up
- 2:45Speaker 3: the tracking properly.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Because well, we hope.
- 2:48Speaker 3: So unlikely that the thief would go, I'm just going
- 2:50Speaker 3: to go get my car serviced.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Well maybe, or maybe maybe it was the dealership. Maybe
- 2:58Speaker 1: there's a lot of different things, so who knows.
- 3:01Speaker 3: That'd be interesting.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Who knows, maybe that dealership could be responsible for a
- 3:09Speaker 1: few things I don't know.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Out of a bicycle club, motorized bicycle club.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Maybe the cops kind of said, please just leave it
- 3:17Speaker 1: from now. Let's just you know this, this stuff happens
- 3:21Speaker 1: all the time.
- 3:22Speaker 3: I just don't worry about it. She'll be right.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Well, it's more like I think it was more like,
- 3:26Speaker 1: leave it to us. We'll ask the questions. Please don't
- 3:28Speaker 1: contact these people, don't do this, don't do that.
- 3:30Speaker 3: I ask the questions. It's been a long time now.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Nah, I don't think they did. And well they might have,
- 3:36Speaker 1: I don't know, but I think it was very much like,
- 3:39Speaker 1: let's just insurance has paid it out. Yeah, so I
- 3:43Speaker 1: think once you kind of if you don't close these
- 3:47Speaker 1: cases and move on to the thousands of other things
- 3:49Speaker 1: they've got going on, they're just going to get bogged
- 3:51Speaker 1: down and shit I mean, Mercedes made it so fucking hard,
- 3:54Speaker 1: so absolutely impossible to track that car. The fact that
- 3:59Speaker 1: they didn't turn it on for two and a half
- 4:01Speaker 1: weeks after police had asked them repeatedly, the fucking police,
- 4:06Speaker 1: the pole leaks ask them to turn this thing on
- 4:10Speaker 1: repeatedly in emails and on the phone, and they just
- 4:14Speaker 1: blatantly refused.
- 4:16Speaker 3: How's the irony They market it as a tracking tool.
- 4:19Speaker 3: The second you need to use your fucking tracking tool,
- 4:22Speaker 3: you cannot figure out how to turn this thing on.
- 4:25Speaker 3: What is the point.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I'm also surprised that it didn't like that if this
- 4:29Speaker 1: was a dealer responsibility, a dealership responsibility. I remember talking
- 4:33Speaker 1: to Landrover about this and their car has already come
- 4:36Speaker 1: with it.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Well, when I picked up Dad's Ranger, which has connected services,
- 4:40Speaker 3: before you leave the dealership, they're obliged to set it
- 4:43Speaker 3: up for you to activate.
- 4:44Speaker 1: The mode, and that's on the app, that's on everything.
- 4:48Speaker 3: The dealership before you leave, which in theory they would
- 4:50Speaker 3: have had to have done with the BENS. I wouldn't
- 4:52Speaker 3: see why they wouldn't do it, given you've got the
- 4:54Speaker 3: bloody service.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yep, yeah, just a shit form. Anyway, He's loving his
- 4:59Speaker 1: brand Toyota Parto.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Well, can I tell you about his new toyde Prato
- 5:06Speaker 3: or loves at general.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah, Toyotas in general are getting stolen, ton't they.
- 5:09Speaker 3: It's out of control. So Victoria, We've spoken about this
- 5:11Speaker 3: previously about the huge amount of car theft going on
- 5:14Speaker 3: in Victoria with Classic holdens and stuff. Now the thieves
- 5:18Speaker 3: have switched to Toyotas. So two hundred series land Cruiser Prato,
- 5:22Speaker 3: so previous generation, current generation Corolla Colas or eighty six.
- 5:27Speaker 3: They are getting stolen in huge numbers. Highlux. Highlux is
- 5:30Speaker 3: the most stolen car in Victoria at the moment, is
- 5:33Speaker 3: it really? It's something like two or three a day
- 5:35Speaker 3: are getting stolen.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Wow.
- 5:36Speaker 3: And they're using the same tool, that cheap tool that
- 5:39Speaker 3: you can get off the marketplace, hem and stuff. Yeah,
- 5:42Speaker 3: that they were using for the holdens on all of
- 5:44Speaker 3: these Toyotas. And it's a clever strategy in the sense
- 5:47Speaker 3: because if you steal a Classic Holden, it stands out
- 5:51Speaker 3: a lot, whereas if you steal a White land Cruiser
- 5:54Speaker 3: or a White Camri, no one can tell it apart
- 5:58Speaker 3: from the other White Camri. They clone the play and
- 6:00Speaker 3: they drive around in this stolen car. And what they're
- 6:02Speaker 3: increasingly using the two hundred series for is for ram
- 6:05Speaker 3: raids and also for stealing other vehicles on stolen trailers.
- 6:09Speaker 3: So they'll steal a trailer most Land cruises will have
- 6:11Speaker 3: a towbar. They'll hitch on, steal a car, whack it
- 6:14Speaker 3: on the trailer and away they go. So it is
- 6:17Speaker 3: just on another level at the moment in terms of
- 6:20Speaker 3: how bad it is.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So they are they tolling a car with a stolen car.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Yep, Yeah it's crazy, but you would never know because
- 6:27Speaker 3: they'll clone a plate and to the naked eye, it's
- 6:29Speaker 3: just some like driving down the road with a car
- 6:31Speaker 3: on the back. So yeah, it is just crazy. So
- 6:35Speaker 3: if you do drive a Toyota, Toyota is being extremely
- 6:38Speaker 3: unhelpful with this, like you know, to me, I kind
- 6:41Speaker 3: of was very disappointed with the GM response to us
- 6:44Speaker 3: that they kind of just don't give a shit. And Okay,
- 6:47Speaker 3: to a degree, I get it. Holden's on on sale
- 6:49Speaker 3: here hasn't met on sale for a while. They clearly
- 6:51Speaker 3: don't care about Australia. Whatever, Toyota, you are still selling
- 6:55Speaker 3: some of these cars, like you are still selling Corollas,
- 6:58Speaker 3: in that shape, the RAB four in that shape. They
- 7:00Speaker 3: can all be stolen using this tool. And while a
- 7:02Speaker 3: lot of new toyotas have connected services, a lot of
- 7:06Speaker 3: the older ones don't. And these cars that are still
- 7:08Speaker 3: in warranty, and I think.
- 7:09Speaker 1: They see that's my big thing. If it's still in
- 7:12Speaker 1: warranty and they're refusing to do or fix what is
- 7:16Speaker 1: effectively a bug. Yeah, it's a bug.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Well, it is inherently an issue with if you look
- 7:23Speaker 3: at this holistically, a two hundred series land Cruiser ended
- 7:26Speaker 3: production a few years ago. Before that, it was on
- 7:29Speaker 3: sale for ten more ten or more years at that
- 7:34Speaker 3: ten year mark. Ten years prior to it going to
- 7:37Speaker 3: it wrapping up being on sale, they would have had
- 7:39Speaker 3: engineers working on the security system, which would have been
- 7:41Speaker 3: maybe two or three years before that. So you're talking
- 7:43Speaker 3: about a security system now that is about twenty years old.
- 7:46Speaker 3: So by that point people have reverse engineered this stuff
- 7:49Speaker 3: and clearly set up tools that are cheap to buy
- 7:51Speaker 3: and easy to steal these cars with. So when you
- 7:54Speaker 3: look at it from that point of view, you need
- 7:56Speaker 3: to be doing better by your customers now and maybe
- 8:00Speaker 3: incentivize them to come in for a service at a
- 8:02Speaker 3: Toyota dealership where you fit this fix. You know, they
- 8:06Speaker 3: have smart engineers, they can fix this stuff.
- 8:08Speaker 1: So here's what I'd say. We're at an issue where
- 8:11Speaker 1: Toyota is not fixing them, right, So what do people do?
- 8:16Speaker 1: What is the fix to this?
- 8:18Speaker 3: So there's two devices. There's a ghost to a Nigla.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Both of these are types of immobilizers. Both of these
- 8:25Speaker 3: at this stage can't be stolen by thieves, and at
- 8:29Speaker 3: least I'm sure they can. But they can't be stolen
- 8:31Speaker 3: by the majority of thieves because the people that are
- 8:33Speaker 3: stealing these cars are as dumb as dogshit. They don't
- 8:36Speaker 3: actually know really what they're doing. All they've seen is
- 8:38Speaker 3: on the internet. Their mates send them a link to
- 8:40Speaker 3: this device that can steal cars, so they just go And.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I think, I actually think some of them are fairly
- 8:45Speaker 1: fucking smart. I think the people who stole my dad's
- 8:48Speaker 1: car fucking knew what was up.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think that's just more brazen. If you
- 8:52Speaker 3: don't if you steal a car that potentially has connected services,
- 8:57Speaker 3: like you are dumb because while you do that. So
- 9:01Speaker 3: I think that that is a level of brazenness. But
- 9:04Speaker 3: these people that are stealing. These aren't all that sophisticated
- 9:07Speaker 3: because a lot of them are joy riding in them,
- 9:08Speaker 3: which just doesn't It's just stupid thing to do if
- 9:10Speaker 3: you don't want to stand out.
- 9:12Speaker 1: So you don't think they're reselling and doing all that
- 9:13Speaker 1: sort of stuff Wreckers and stuff, especially if it's a
- 9:16Speaker 1: Toyota Wrap four and a look.
- 9:18Speaker 3: They might be, but it's not the market that is
- 9:21Speaker 3: classic V eights. There's so many parts available for all
- 9:24Speaker 3: those cars at Wreckers that I don't know that you'd
- 9:27Speaker 3: get the like an LS three. You just cannot buy
- 9:29Speaker 3: ls's anymore. So this is where they're getting a lot
- 9:31Speaker 3: of money from. So yeah, I think that a lot
- 9:34Speaker 3: of this just comes down to Toyota needing to do better.
- 9:36Speaker 3: And I will emphasize as well, this isn't limited to
- 9:38Speaker 3: Toyota super heaps of STIs are getting stolen, Wrx's, Lavorg's
- 9:45Speaker 3: this this is a thing that is happening to a
- 9:46Speaker 3: lot of different car brands. If it has a push
- 9:48Speaker 3: button start, it can probably be stolen.
- 9:50Speaker 1: It's crazy. Oh, speaking of the subs, they just released
- 9:55Speaker 1: the new Forester. You see the new Look out back.
- 9:58Speaker 3: What the fuck like an outback used to be a wagon.
- 10:02Speaker 3: The latest one got a little bit bigger. This one.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I just do not understand, Like what it makes no
- 10:10Speaker 3: sense to me, really makes no sense.
- 10:12Speaker 1: What do you mean? What don't you like about it? Sorry?
- 10:16Speaker 1: Just keep going, keep talking. It looks tragic, the new outback.
- 10:20Speaker 1: What don't you like about it? What are you googling? No,
- 10:23Speaker 1: I'm just I'm searching. Someone's at my front door anyway.
- 10:27Speaker 1: What we're saying? Superos? Yeah? Oh sorry, sorry, mates, some
- 10:32Speaker 1: Katie Lang's playing. I'm sorry. I just you got any
- 10:36Speaker 1: Scissor sisters. The outback is really good. Sorry, I don't
- 10:40Speaker 1: know why. I think it's every time you say super
- 10:42Speaker 1: or outback, Katie Lang.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Starts playing on my phone.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I don't know why that's that's so random anyway. So
- 10:48Speaker 1: I actually I was thinking about the new Supero outback.
- 10:50Speaker 3: And oh jesus, Missy Higgins is playing.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I thought that's weird. I don't know why that's happened anyway. So, okay,
- 11:02Speaker 1: thank you, thank you. That's enough. Jeez, unbelievable anyway, anyway,
- 11:13Speaker 1: So I'm not I'm looking at the super back. Yes,
- 11:17Speaker 1: So anyway, I was, I was looking at the new
- 11:19Speaker 1: design of that super hour back and the fucking scissors
- 11:26Speaker 1: is a plague? How random is.
- 11:27Speaker 4: That I get in my super room when I lock
- 11:36Speaker 4: my wist big for the muff?
- 11:39Speaker 1: Oh hey, so did you see this? This popped across
- 11:42Speaker 1: my desk the other week? The Apple Cup play in
- 11:45Speaker 1: the Auston Martin. I don't have I do have a
- 11:47Speaker 1: desk out there by the way.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Yes, we're in the studio that Gordon works in.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and the desk over there is the one that
- 11:55Speaker 1: looks like it hasn't been used in the twelve months
- 12:00Speaker 1: we've been in this building because it hasn't. I don't
- 12:03Speaker 1: use my desk. I just waltzed into the studio. What's up, guys, girls,
- 12:08Speaker 1: good old ladies. Oh, come on, it's like seagulls fighting
- 12:11Speaker 1: over a chip in here. Take a ticket and wait
- 12:14Speaker 1: in life, the deli is ready for business. Yes, Apple
- 12:19Speaker 1: Car plays, that was just that's just how this random
- 12:23Speaker 1: salami you get in here? Oh my god? Sorry, okay,
- 12:36Speaker 1: so yes, listen of Apple car play in the Aston Martin,
- 12:39Speaker 1: which is not just like normal Apple car play. It's
- 12:42Speaker 1: a real interface.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Take over there running and the speedo, everything infotainment, And
- 12:47Speaker 3: this is.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Kind of what we've been talking about for ages. I
- 12:51Speaker 1: know Trevor was sort of predicting this that Apple will
- 12:54Speaker 1: concentrate more on the interface than their Apple cars that
- 12:57Speaker 1: that were doing.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Can I tell you why this is fun and it's
- 13:00Speaker 3: a bad idea?
- 13:01Speaker 1: The other day is so negative?
- 13:03Speaker 3: The other day I got an update for my iPhone
- 13:07Speaker 3: and the lead line on that update was a Pride
- 13:12Speaker 3: wallpaper that they're rolling out. What they haven't fixed, though,
- 13:15Speaker 3: is the fucked camera that doesn't work when car plays running,
- 13:18Speaker 3: the phone that just randomly freezes so you can't type shit,
- 13:22Speaker 3: the phone that won't charge sometimes. This thing has become
- 13:27Speaker 3: a piece of shit. Come Tim Cook, I'm telling you,
- 13:30Speaker 3: has fucked that company so badly and they've completely taken
- 13:34Speaker 3: their eye off creating a phone that works. So my
- 13:38Speaker 3: concern is if the Apple car play inside that car
- 13:41Speaker 3: is as shit as my phone is now, and there's
- 13:43Speaker 3: a brand new phone with the latest software update, I mean,
- 13:48Speaker 3: what good is that going to be when it just
- 13:50Speaker 3: all stops working.
- 13:52Speaker 1: An interview with Zuckerberg and he said similar stuff, not
- 13:56Speaker 1: quite to that ELK, but.
- 13:57Speaker 3: He was talking about vision Pro.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Yeah, well he was talking about Apple as a company
- 14:02Speaker 1: haven't exactly invented anything great.
- 14:04Speaker 3: No Vision Pro was Tim Cook's thing, and it's shit.
- 14:07Speaker 3: It's expensive and useless. So when you look at how
- 14:11Speaker 3: bad that company is now that he's in charge, it's
- 14:14Speaker 3: like they need a Steve Jobs back in there, someone
- 14:17Speaker 3: who is willing to go, Okay, we're going to stop
- 14:20Speaker 3: all the woke bullshit and we're going to go back
- 14:22Speaker 3: to actually doing phones the work instead of focusing on
- 14:25Speaker 3: all this other crap. All that other crap can come
- 14:28Speaker 3: when I can type shit on my phone and the
- 14:30Speaker 3: camera works until that point.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Your ecosystem, though, having said that, is still very much
- 14:35Speaker 1: This is what shits me because it's all Apple.
- 14:38Speaker 3: But I'm going to get to the point where this
- 14:40Speaker 3: thing when I need to fire it up to film
- 14:42Speaker 3: a video and it shits itself again, I'm just gonna Yeah,
- 14:47Speaker 3: I'm going to crack it and just go get an Android, which.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I would recommend. I actually recommend it some of the
- 14:52Speaker 1: Google The Google phones were great. I loved my Google phone.
- 14:55Speaker 1: The only reason why I moved to an iPhone was
- 14:58Speaker 1: because it was just easier for social media stuff. But
- 15:01Speaker 1: now that they're all pretty much but fairly equal, And
- 15:05Speaker 1: this also.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Links back into the discussion we had in the last
- 15:07Speaker 3: episode about tariffs and Apple, and there's a bit of
- 15:09Speaker 3: a side step here, but because he's had his eye
- 15:12Speaker 3: off the game and he has been I listened to
- 15:15Speaker 3: a season of the Land of the Giants, which is
- 15:17Speaker 3: basically investigate companies, and Apple was one that they did
- 15:21Speaker 3: it on, and this was recorded years ago before this
- 15:24Speaker 3: tariff stuff, and they literally said in that that because
- 15:27Speaker 3: they are driving their supplies so hard in China, everyone
- 15:31Speaker 3: is a contractor, they try and extract as much margin
- 15:36Speaker 3: as they can out of this phone. If there is
- 15:38Speaker 3: ever a trade war, Apple is fucked. And that is
- 15:41Speaker 3: precisely what's happened now. Because he's been greedy and just
- 15:45Speaker 3: wanting all these big profits, the issue has now become
- 15:48Speaker 3: that he is going to face a massive loss or
- 15:52Speaker 3: have to jack the price of the phone up, which
- 15:54Speaker 3: you can only do so much of. Even now, this
- 15:56Speaker 3: phone is like a two and a half thousand dollars thing,
- 15:58Speaker 3: which is insane. If you want to make that a
- 16:01Speaker 3: three thousand dollars thing, I think it is really going
- 16:04Speaker 3: to be a struggle for people to actually justify that anyone.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, it's fucking It's only two hundred bucks to
- 16:11Speaker 1: fix that broken thing.
- 16:12Speaker 3: But yeah, and that's the other thing as well. They're
- 16:15Speaker 3: so disposable that if I can be on Apple Care
- 16:17Speaker 3: for twenty whatever dollars a month and go throw this
- 16:20Speaker 3: off the building here and then just go get a
- 16:21Speaker 3: new one, it shows you how disposable they are and
- 16:24Speaker 3: how much money they make off each one of these phones.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and some of the horrific stuff you hear
- 16:29Speaker 3: about the factories that these people work in isn't like.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Things like the screen. This is supplied by Samsung.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Yeah, the screen, I don't know. The Land of the Giants.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Thing I was listening to is older. I don't know
- 16:40Speaker 3: if it's now Samsung, but they basically the IP behind
- 16:44Speaker 3: the screen and scratch proof. And I use air quotes
- 16:47Speaker 3: here because this thing is anything that scratch. It is
- 16:49Speaker 3: covered in scratches and I don't do anything like it
- 16:52Speaker 3: sits in my pocket with no keys or anything, and
- 16:55Speaker 3: it's like.
- 16:55Speaker 1: You put the glass protector thing on it.
- 16:58Speaker 3: But why why not make a screen that.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Isn't shit because the reality is they do.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Okay, well, then you don't say it's scratchproof, yeah, but.
- 17:05Speaker 1: It is it is. It isn't scratchproof, So why need
- 17:08Speaker 1: you just buy yourself a forty dollars.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Screen, Why should I I've bought your phone. I'm spending
- 17:13Speaker 3: twenty five bucks a month on Apple Care because you
- 17:17Speaker 3: know it's cheap to get it replaced. Yes, and I've
- 17:19Speaker 3: got a not scratchproof screen, but I'm now going to
- 17:22Speaker 3: need to get replaced.
- 17:23Speaker 1: It's a forty dollars thing and you don't have to.
- 17:25Speaker 3: You won't get But imagine if you bought a car
- 17:27Speaker 3: and they're like, oh, look it's fine, but you need
- 17:30Speaker 3: to buy this thing for the engine to just work
- 17:32Speaker 3: as it should.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Yeah, but that happens a lot when well.
- 17:37Speaker 3: What do you have to buy with a car that
- 17:39Speaker 3: they claim that it just doesn't do?
- 17:41Speaker 1: But how many people modify their cars to make it better.
- 17:44Speaker 3: You can do that. But this is the key item
- 17:46Speaker 3: is the screen. You say it's scratchproof, but if I
- 17:49Speaker 3: run my finger across it, it is full of scratches. Yeah,
- 17:52Speaker 3: so it's not scratchproof. And I don't necessarily like, I
- 17:54Speaker 3: don't go and scratch this on surfaces. I would never
- 17:57Speaker 3: do that. So how is it if I treat my phone? Well,
- 18:00Speaker 3: was it already scratched?
- 18:01Speaker 1: I'm worried about your health and I think you're going
- 18:03Speaker 1: to have cholesterol problems, and I think you should. Well, look,
- 18:07Speaker 1: let me make some calls. Let's see if I can get.
- 18:10Speaker 3: I do apologize for that rant, but I just think
- 18:13Speaker 3: Apple has turned into a ship company anyway.
- 18:16Speaker 1: And that's what really grinds his gears Apple. Okay, Well,
- 18:23Speaker 1: we were going to talk about the the the Apple
- 18:25Speaker 1: car play in the Aston Martin. I'm look, I'm interested,
- 18:29Speaker 1: I think, and I think Apple car play is if
- 18:32Speaker 1: it works well in a car, it makes life so
- 18:35Speaker 1: much easier.
- 18:36Speaker 3: I just hope they have the a team on it.
- 18:37Speaker 1: That's all all right? Oh hey, did you say JAG
- 18:41Speaker 1: has rumored to have split with that marketing company? Why
- 18:44Speaker 1: you're on your little rats. I'd love to know what
- 18:46Speaker 1: you think it is. Yeah, who would have thought?
- 18:49Speaker 3: Bullshit work? Marketing didn't work out?
- 18:51Speaker 1: It didn't work? Wow? Wow. And and the fact that
- 18:54Speaker 1: they were saying that they're going completely original, yet their
- 18:59Speaker 1: new logo is a complete roop off of the Beats font.
- 19:02Speaker 3: It's honestly, you just look at it and you're like
- 19:05Speaker 3: you you don't need to be a rocket signist to
- 19:08Speaker 3: see that that was never gonna work.
- 19:12Speaker 1: The physical concepts that they put out, Well, they're not concept,
- 19:14Speaker 1: they're arguably the actual car, right. I kind of see
- 19:19Speaker 1: that they want to make sexy and almost unattainable again,
- 19:24Speaker 1: you know, cars that people dream about owning. You know.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Then you see these rappers they want to kind of
- 19:28Speaker 1: hone in on that social media culture. They had that
- 19:32Speaker 1: Barry Kadogan Ordogan, they had John Cadogan, they had social
- 19:38Speaker 1: media superstar John Kodogan do their marketing. Get a fucker's
- 19:43Speaker 1: I shaved my bloody pubes with this razor inside this
- 19:46Speaker 1: fucking car. That was impressions. That wasn't bad. But yeah,
- 19:51Speaker 1: Barry Keogan, I think his name is. He's from salts Burn, Saltburn.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Did you watch that? They spent a lot of their
- 20:00Speaker 1: marketing and a lot on this launch, and wow, what
- 20:03Speaker 1: a way to not do things.
- 20:05Speaker 3: You know what I reckon has happened unofficially. I think Tata,
- 20:09Speaker 3: who owns JLR. You know, you look at the execs
- 20:14Speaker 3: at Tata. I think they're fairly conservative. I reckon they
- 20:17Speaker 3: would have looked at this and gone, who the fuck
- 20:19Speaker 3: approved this? And stop it at once, And they're trying
- 20:23Speaker 3: to slowly walk their way out of it. I think
- 20:25Speaker 3: they're locked in with that car design and all the
- 20:27Speaker 3: other craft that comes with it, because it's now at
- 20:29Speaker 3: the driving engineering stage. But I think they will see
- 20:33Speaker 3: the marketing have a swift change because I do think
- 20:36Speaker 3: it's embarrassing for the brand and they Tata bought the
- 20:39Speaker 3: brand because it had so much heritage and they have
- 20:43Speaker 3: viscerated that heritage.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Is it fixable? That's the question. I think this will
- 20:48Speaker 1: take years.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Well, firstly, no one is buying luxury electric cars, so
- 20:53Speaker 3: there's your first mistake. So they're not going to sell
- 20:55Speaker 3: any just based on that alone. So I think that
- 20:59Speaker 3: even if it is good, it's it's just not going
- 21:02Speaker 3: to sell. So sang Yong is now known as in
- 21:07Speaker 3: Australia KGM KGM, which is very GM.
- 21:10Speaker 1: What does that stand for? It's to build your dream situation?
- 21:14Speaker 3: Is that so KG mobility?
- 21:17Speaker 1: Oh my god? They fucking what? That sounds like a
- 21:21Speaker 1: care facility kind of does it does? It's like we
- 21:26Speaker 1: bought you a wheelchair. They're nevil. It's the latest k GM,
- 21:31Speaker 1: the camability.
- 21:34Speaker 3: So the genesis is that sang Yong part of KG.
- 21:42Speaker 1: KGM.
- 21:43Speaker 3: So kg Sanyong became part of the KG group. They
- 21:48Speaker 3: were then known as KGM sang Yong Okay, then, and
- 21:53Speaker 3: the Sanyong brand dates back to like nineteen fifties. It
- 21:57Speaker 3: then became KGM Australia from June one.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Funk, why don't we even need chat GPT but we've
- 22:03Speaker 1: just got Pavlo.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Yeah, so anyway, they tell me.
- 22:06Speaker 1: More about the history of kg What else have you
- 22:08Speaker 1: got there?
- 22:08Speaker 3: They announced it at the same time as they announced
- 22:11Speaker 3: the kg acton, which actually looks interesting.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Show me.
- 22:16Speaker 3: It's like a sort of very futuristic RoboCop style.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Really looks like it looks like a Pergo. Yeah.
- 22:25Speaker 3: But yeah, look, I think it's a brand that has
- 22:27Speaker 3: fairly struggle struggles for relevance in Australia, and I think
- 22:33Speaker 3: giving it an obscure, random name isn't going to help.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Well, it's an interesting take because they yeah, I mean
- 22:41Speaker 1: Fu Sangyong. They they're bringing out sort of affordable cars
- 22:46Speaker 1: if you like. And then the little progress they've made,
- 22:51Speaker 1: they've kind of got to start again with a complete rebrand.
- 22:55Speaker 3: This comment wasn't kg M an eighties rapper.
- 23:00Speaker 1: With a big shirt.
- 23:03Speaker 3: You've worked with it a mitsu before at their launch event, right.
- 23:05Speaker 1: I did? I did, Mate, I went to their launch event.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I am seated. Actually your boy mceed it hosted the
- 23:10Speaker 1: whole thing, very nice, delicious Japanese restaurant. But I'm really impressed.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I'm really impressed. These guys have been leaders in oil
- 23:19Speaker 1: innovation for over a century. You know, they're the ones
- 23:21Speaker 1: trusted by Toyota and Mazda to deliver precision engineered oils
- 23:27Speaker 1: straight from the factory, and now now they are bringing
- 23:30Speaker 1: the same expertise to ossie drivers. What stood out to
- 23:34Speaker 1: you the most, well, a lot did actually pavel, thank
- 23:37Speaker 1: you for asking that non prompted question, and it was
- 23:41Speaker 1: their nanotailored oil, which is why we're here, because this
- 23:43Speaker 1: stuff is next level. And now they don't just make
- 23:46Speaker 1: generic who ha products. No, no, not these guys. Every
- 23:51Speaker 1: formula is designed with purpose. For example, let me tell
- 23:54Speaker 1: you something. The IFG three this stuff is perfect for
- 23:59Speaker 1: city driver. This is what you want for city driving.
- 24:01Speaker 1: This is your stop start traffic, the stuff that puts
- 24:04Speaker 1: stress on your engine. But then there's the IFG seven
- 24:08Speaker 1: this is the stuff for your beast pavlay the high
- 24:11Speaker 1: performance vehicles seven layers of protection seven I sound a
- 24:16Speaker 1: bit New Zealand. Seven layers of protection anyway, they've got
- 24:19Speaker 1: no cleansing tech. It stops oil breakdown and it even
- 24:24Speaker 1: just sorts it in the harshest condition. So if you're
- 24:27Speaker 1: driving a Japanese car, the IFG five, oh, that stuff
- 24:31Speaker 1: is built for precision engineered engines. It's offering five layers
- 24:35Speaker 1: of protection to keep your engine clean and running smoothly.
- 24:39Speaker 3: So that sounds like a lot of attention to detail.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Oh so much detail, so much I nearly forgot it all.
- 24:46Speaker 1: But the IFG seven isn't just oil. Just know that,
- 24:48Speaker 1: because it's like giving your engine a custom suit of armor,
- 24:52Speaker 1: like a little massage as well. It doesn't just protect
- 24:55Speaker 1: your engine, it optimizes performance. If you're into keeping your
- 24:59Speaker 1: car in and it's absolute best nick possible. This is
- 25:03Speaker 1: the oil you want, and now it's easy to get too.
- 25:06Speaker 1: It is very easy. Are you ready for the longest
- 25:09Speaker 1: website I've ever had to read? Out Here, we go
- 25:11Speaker 1: au dot in AMTSU slash no no slash tailored slashoil
- 25:16Speaker 1: dot com. I said to it, amits you as it. Guys,
- 25:19Speaker 1: don't give me that. Let's just tell them that if
- 25:22Speaker 1: they search out in AMIDSU Australia on the Googles they'll
- 25:26Speaker 1: find where they're going. You know what I'm saying, they'll
- 25:28Speaker 1: ship it straight to or no fast, top tier oil
- 25:31Speaker 1: wherever you are. OK.
- 25:33Speaker 3: If it's good enough for manufacturers like Toyota and mazdav and,
- 25:35Speaker 3: it sounds good enough for me.
- 25:37Speaker 1: M exactly. You know, with INAMIDSU, you're getting oil that's
- 25:42Speaker 1: designed to handle whatever you throw it at it. They've
- 25:44Speaker 1: been trusted for the best part of over one hundred years.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Yeah. Look in Amitsu taking you beyond engine protection to
- 25:52Speaker 3: real driving excitement.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I think I could read that better. You ready it?
- 25:58Speaker 1: Omitsu taking you beyond engine protection to real driving excitement?
- 26:05Speaker 1: Was that good?
- 26:06Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 26:08Speaker 1: Hey, I saw an old mate during the week, one
- 26:12Speaker 1: who I haven't seen in quite a long time, and
- 26:16Speaker 1: I was excited to catch up. A bit awkward because
- 26:20Speaker 1: I know they had a face left. O. God, can
- 26:23Speaker 1: you imagine, Trevor, I'm wearing a fucking girdle.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Now, have a look at me.
- 26:30Speaker 1: He looks like a court drawing. But it's been quite
- 26:35Speaker 1: generous and that's it. That's that's where it ends with that.
- 26:38Speaker 1: He just looks like a court drawing. That he looks like,
- 26:42Speaker 1: he looks like if a homeless man imagined themselves getting
- 26:45Speaker 1: their life together. I love you. Trevy was supposed to
- 26:49Speaker 1: be here this week, so anyway.
- 26:52Speaker 3: And why doesn't want to be here?
- 26:53Speaker 1: I don't know why. We had macas and everything. Yeah fuck,
- 26:56Speaker 1: can you imagine if this stuff, this macas would not
- 26:59Speaker 1: have lasted long. If Trevor's here.
- 27:01Speaker 3: There are four person bases.
- 27:03Speaker 1: He would have he would have he would have poured
- 27:05Speaker 1: this large chips into Donna's belly button and just needed
- 27:09Speaker 1: like a dog.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Wow, that was that was good. You got him there.
- 27:15Speaker 3: It's like it's just like a dog.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Last time he was here, he was dragging his arms
- 27:23Speaker 1: on the car, but I had to fucking hit him
- 27:25Speaker 1: with the rolled up newspaper. No, so I did catch
- 27:30Speaker 1: up with an old mate who had a face left.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I'm talking about the Toyota eighty six baby. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 27:37Speaker 1: it'd been wild. It had been a bloody hot minute.
- 27:40Speaker 1: And you know, I always liked the Toyota eighty six's.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I always thought that were good cars. I mean I
- 27:46Speaker 1: preferred them over the subib z R or b Z
- 27:50Speaker 1: or whatever. But it is still just a brilliant, engaging,
- 27:57Speaker 1: clean cut sports car. There's no rits about it. There's
- 28:01Speaker 1: no fluff, it's just it still has that two point
- 28:06Speaker 1: four flat four. When you look at these numbers, one
- 28:09Speaker 1: hundred and seventy four kilowatts, two hundred and fifty new
- 28:11Speaker 1: meters of talk zero to one hundred and six point
- 28:14Speaker 1: three seconds. On paper, they're not that impressive, but when
- 28:19Speaker 1: you drive this thing around, it proves that they don't
- 28:22Speaker 1: need to be. They're a perfect example of numbers don't
- 28:25Speaker 1: necessarily sell cars, and and that's.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Why this and the stuff like the m X five
- 28:32Speaker 3: Kindness still just work. People buy them because you know,
- 28:37Speaker 3: they just do the job.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Oh what I mean, they're engaging, they're not a ton
- 28:41Speaker 1: of money. They fill the road so well, and they've
- 28:44Speaker 1: got they're almost intuitive to the driver the way they corner.
- 28:48Speaker 1: They're just such a great car. They don't need to be.
- 28:51Speaker 1: They don't need to have buckets of power. And as
- 28:54Speaker 1: I said, yes, they're just clean cut, real will drive
- 28:57Speaker 1: the interior there is nothing. I mean, the one I
- 29:00Speaker 1: had had cloth everywhere, and I thought about that. I mean,
- 29:04Speaker 1: I guess a lot of people in that sort of
- 29:07Speaker 1: boy racer kind of group will take those seats out
- 29:10Speaker 1: anyway and chuck some sports seats in there. They're not
- 29:14Speaker 1: obviously electric seats or anything. But what a fucking great car.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Just a really fun car.
- 29:22Speaker 3: I mean, it's just one of the few examples of
- 29:24Speaker 3: just being able to just drive around and have fun. Yeah,
- 29:27Speaker 3: not have to spend a mega amount of money, No,
- 29:30Speaker 3: you know, and for a lot of people's that's important
- 29:32Speaker 3: at the moment, so why not.
- 29:35Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, it's modest and honest. And at the
- 29:38Speaker 1: same time, I thought to myself, does this thing need
- 29:40Speaker 1: a turbo? And I don't think it does. I think
- 29:42Speaker 1: it would loser.
- 29:43Speaker 3: And that's the thing they've resisted for so long out
- 29:45Speaker 3: of get turbo. And it's like, you just don't really
- 29:48Speaker 3: need it for that. If you want to go do it,
- 29:50Speaker 3: you'll do it on your own, but you necessarily need it,
- 29:53Speaker 3: And I think that's the that's the impressive part of it.
- 29:55Speaker 1: And I think it still sounds pretty good too. You
- 29:57Speaker 1: could possibly add an exhaust if you wanted to, if
- 29:59Speaker 1: you wanted a more gutsier sound, but it probably doesn't
- 30:02Speaker 1: need it. I have, you know what, I even had
- 30:05Speaker 1: the auto and at the start, I know, no, I know,
- 30:08Speaker 1: and I'm telling you now I got proven wrong, Like
- 30:11Speaker 1: it wasn't maybe look maybe for me because it was
- 30:15Speaker 1: a daily it was I was doing it in traffic.
- 30:17Speaker 1: I was like, oh, this is great, this is really good.
- 30:20Speaker 1: And the paddle shifters they still work fine. M M
- 30:23Speaker 1: M eighty six. Baby, you're a stick gay, You're like
- 30:28Speaker 1: a bit of stick. Just throttle it, yeah, just really
- 30:33Speaker 1: onto it. It's are we still talking about car?
- 30:37Speaker 3: Done with here?
- 30:37Speaker 1: Now we're done without? Hey, Porsche mccahn, the EV. You've
- 30:44Speaker 1: the EV Porsche mccahn. You've had this for what a
- 30:47Speaker 1: couple of weeks now, and I'm keen to get your
- 30:49Speaker 1: thoughts on it because I remember at the launchers there
- 30:53Speaker 1: was some impressive stuff going on. The speed behind them
- 30:58Speaker 1: was good. And the McCann is an interesting Porsche because
- 31:03Speaker 1: it's the car that keeps Porsche going. It kind of
- 31:06Speaker 1: keeps the lights on. If you're like, it's the car
- 31:09Speaker 1: that kind of saved them back in the day, or
- 31:11Speaker 1: one of the cars that saved them back in the day,
- 31:13Speaker 1: and we're in a new era now.
- 31:16Speaker 3: I think they've made a critical error on that front.
- 31:18Speaker 3: McCarn was something like half of their sales volume and
- 31:21Speaker 3: they killed the internal combustion one and gambled everything onto
- 31:24Speaker 3: this fully electric one with no other option. They have
- 31:28Speaker 3: come out as part of their last investor updates saying
- 31:31Speaker 3: that they're working on another internal combustion small suv which
- 31:34Speaker 3: they will give a different name to. It won't be
- 31:37Speaker 3: called a McCarn. And look, when I went to the launch,
- 31:40Speaker 3: I was sort of fairly impressed with it. You know,
- 31:44Speaker 3: they were very smooth roads, and I thought, now, wait
- 31:46Speaker 3: till we get it back to Australia. And I guess
- 31:48Speaker 3: part of the problem I've got with this This is
- 31:50Speaker 3: a base McCarn. And unfortunately, for whatever reason, we let
- 31:54Speaker 3: one of our junior staff configure the car. And you know,
- 32:00Speaker 3: I just would never choose these options because of the
- 32:03Speaker 3: results of what this car is.
- 32:05Speaker 1: I saw those options, like it's.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Got ninety thousand dollars of options on a car that
- 32:10Speaker 3: has a base prize one hundred and twenty or something,
- 32:11Speaker 3: which I just think is outrageous anyway, because my Carn
- 32:14Speaker 3: used to be a small stretch for someone from a
- 32:16Speaker 3: Q five. Now it's this enormous leap, comes with nothing
- 32:19Speaker 3: standard and you look at the car and you're like,
- 32:23Speaker 3: I could see where you've added maybe ten grand worth
- 32:25Speaker 3: of options. How did you get to ninety thousand dollars
- 32:28Speaker 3: in options. You know, he specs it with twenty two's
- 32:32Speaker 3: the performance tire option, which makes the car skip along
- 32:35Speaker 3: the road when you do like a tight U turn
- 32:38Speaker 3: in the cold, which is just entirely unacceptable. The ride,
- 32:42Speaker 3: it rides like a boat, it tramlines. It really is
- 32:47Speaker 3: just unimpressive in that spec What was.
- 32:49Speaker 1: The what a color was interior? Was it like? It
- 32:52Speaker 1: wasn't red? Red? And it wasn't red.
- 32:54Speaker 3: And this is the thing. We did a configure out
- 32:55Speaker 3: a challenge and our readers picked that one. So it
- 32:59Speaker 3: wasn't his full that he configured it that way, but
- 33:02Speaker 3: I would just I don't know why Porsche went ahead
- 33:04Speaker 3: with that, because this car, when you drive it, it's
- 33:08Speaker 3: just not impressive. So and all of that stuff adds
- 33:11Speaker 3: together to then affect the range as well. So I've
- 33:14Speaker 3: done a fair bit of driving in it, and I
- 33:16Speaker 3: wanted to see what the range would be like. So
- 33:18Speaker 3: it's pretty cold down in Melbourne at the moment. And
- 33:20Speaker 3: started off one hundred percent, did three hundred and seventy
- 33:22Speaker 3: k's battery got down to eighteen percent and was averaging
- 33:26Speaker 3: over twenty kilo what hours per hundred ks, and I'm like,
- 33:29Speaker 3: that is a lot for what is meant to be
- 33:32Speaker 3: a high tech, efficient expensive car too, So it means
- 33:36Speaker 3: that realistically you're getting four hundred k's of driving range
- 33:38Speaker 3: out of a battery, and this is marketed as having
- 33:41Speaker 3: over six hundred k's in that base, which is the
- 33:43Speaker 3: lightest configuration.
- 33:44Speaker 1: So I don't know.
- 33:45Speaker 3: To me, I just think that that they've missed a
- 33:47Speaker 3: trick with it, and.
- 33:49Speaker 1: It's disappointing because they're a great car, the S, the
- 33:54Speaker 1: gts and like, they're all good.
- 33:56Speaker 3: I'll see what it's like to drive another Speck, but
- 33:59Speaker 3: just for the mar Like, there is no way I'd
- 34:01Speaker 3: spend two hundred plus on roads on this particular car.
- 34:05Speaker 1: And so hang on, let me just pause you there.
- 34:06Speaker 1: So how much so you said this was a base car.
- 34:08Speaker 1: How much was this going base before you added like
- 34:11Speaker 1: the ninety thousand worth of options to it? I think
- 34:15Speaker 1: it's like what one twenty something? Yeah, yeah, that is
- 34:19Speaker 1: a big step up from what the Q five.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Yeah, So yeah, here we go. So starts at one
- 34:27Speaker 3: twenty eight four hundred, so pretty much one thirty plus
- 34:29Speaker 3: on roads, so it's jumped thirty three grand.
- 34:33Speaker 1: And then you realistically turned it into a two hundred
- 34:36Speaker 1: and ten thousand dollars car.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Plus on roads. So two hundred and fifty k in
- 34:39Speaker 3: this thing, and I do not see it well even
- 34:42Speaker 3: the I'm going to pull the key.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Out, so you guys obviously round this experiment.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Give me a lot cheap? Does that look? So you
- 34:48Speaker 3: have to pay something like six or eight hundred dollars
- 34:51Speaker 3: to customize the key? Ah, that looks like just a base.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's plastic. Usually these are beautiful with the they
- 34:59Speaker 1: almost have a shellac coating on them, if you like,
- 35:03Speaker 1: and they usually color them in the same car.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Maybe that's a spare key for the car or something.
- 35:08Speaker 3: I don't know, but it just that looks cheap.
- 35:10Speaker 1: I've never seen this before, like I've never seen one.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Look this cheap. Oh that's basic? Boys, shit, look at that? Yeah?
- 35:17Speaker 1: So has he got a fronk?
- 35:19Speaker 3: Yes? Yeah, yeah, I don't know. Just just a bit
- 35:23Speaker 3: disappointed in the car even just interior space. Not much
- 35:27Speaker 3: room inside and if you want to buy it as
- 35:28Speaker 3: a family car, my daughter's seat in it, Like you
- 35:32Speaker 3: barely fit anything else.
- 35:33Speaker 1: In the boot when you've got a pram in there. Yeah,
- 35:35Speaker 1: not much leg room in the rear. They haven't improved
- 35:38Speaker 1: the boot room at all.
- 35:40Speaker 3: Just yeah, it's I don't know, really not that impressed. Unfortunately.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I know there caman ev is coming out soon, and
- 35:47Speaker 1: I'm really hoping they don't fucking ass up that up that.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Up even that. It's like, why are you doing this?
- 35:53Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 35:53Speaker 3: Who's asked you to do this?
- 35:54Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 35:55Speaker 3: Your customers haven't. No, what are you doing it for?
- 35:59Speaker 3: I just find it really odd. It's a very poor
- 36:01Speaker 3: business decision, definitely, But I just hope it doesn't.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I know them, they're trying to meet European emission standards,
- 36:11Speaker 1: so aren't they. Yeah, I mean.
- 36:12Speaker 3: They're meeting all their trading credits and stuff. But actually
- 36:15Speaker 3: here you go, so looking at their stock, I mean
- 36:19Speaker 3: this tells you everything you need to know at Porsche
- 36:21Speaker 3: is now publicly this company. Their stock over the past
- 36:24Speaker 3: year is down forty percent, So I think that that
- 36:27Speaker 3: kind of just tells you everything you need to know.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Your investors don't think it's a good idea any of
- 36:33Speaker 3: this stuff. And a lot of this downward activity started
- 36:38Speaker 3: end of last year, so it's just and then from
- 36:41Speaker 3: March this year onwards, it has just capitulated.
- 36:43Speaker 1: If they literally were under the thumb from the EU.
- 36:47Speaker 1: They should really be making that more public because let's
- 36:50Speaker 1: just say they've been having to sit on this for
- 36:52Speaker 1: at least let's say seven years. At that point they
- 36:56Speaker 1: could easily argue and go, what EV has just gone
- 37:00Speaker 1: ballistic apart from a Tesla. Well, that's actually I just
- 37:04Speaker 1: took myself out of that because seven years ago Tesla
- 37:07Speaker 1: was fucking booming.
- 37:08Speaker 3: But if you want to compare it to other car
- 37:10Speaker 3: companies BMW, who's also publicly listed over the past year,
- 37:14Speaker 3: their share prices down thirteen percent. So yes, you have
- 37:16Speaker 3: a downward trajectory across all the companies, But thirteen percent
- 37:19Speaker 3: versus forty forty plus, I mean, that's a that's a
- 37:23Speaker 3: big difference, all right.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Question This one comes from Durant's construction the Big three
- 37:29Speaker 1: F one, fifty, fifteen hundred and Z one slash two.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Which one would you pick for your garage and why? So?
- 37:38Speaker 1: Our choices are the F one, fifty YEP, the fifteen
- 37:41Speaker 1: hundred RAM YEP, and the Silverado. I'm guessing YEP, Z
- 37:47Speaker 1: one slash two.
- 37:49Speaker 3: I'd be For me, it would be probably the Chevy
- 37:54Speaker 3: because I love the V eight. I know it's not
- 37:56Speaker 3: the fastest there, but it sounds great. The RAM fifteen
- 37:58Speaker 3: hundred of the new turbo charge c goes like shit
- 38:00Speaker 3: off a shovel. It is incredibly fast. So if he
- 38:03Speaker 3: wants the quickest pickup truck out there, that's it. The
- 38:06Speaker 3: Forward I just think it feels pretty low rent. And
- 38:09Speaker 3: there is going to be a version of the F
- 38:12Speaker 3: one fifty the Platinum coming, which should definitely elevate things,
- 38:15Speaker 3: so that should be here as part of a face leaf.
- 38:18Speaker 1: I want to say the F one fifty generally, they
- 38:22Speaker 1: are such an iconic, beautiful like you get a big
- 38:25Speaker 1: black one fifty. They are stunning. I had the Chevy
- 38:30Speaker 1: Silverado over a couple of months over Christmas and I
- 38:34Speaker 1: loved it, loved it, So I'd be picking that. Yeah, okay,
- 38:38Speaker 1: I'd be picking that now. Two for the ship you
- 38:40Speaker 1: they've got a follow up question also also, is Pablo
- 38:45Speaker 1: keeping Donna in the back of the Shark six? Is
- 38:48Speaker 1: this why it can't get up the Heill?
- 38:50Speaker 3: No, it should help it because it would be a
- 38:52Speaker 3: lot more weight. You'd be at payload.
- 38:55Speaker 1: I don't know about your payload. Thoughts on the twenty
- 38:57Speaker 1: twenty six Yen Day Palisade. Great question they're coming from
- 39:01Speaker 1: Liam Leaf.
- 39:02Speaker 3: God, it looks good, looks great, looks so bloody good.
- 39:05Speaker 3: I think that yondy. The Santa Fe knocked it out
- 39:09Speaker 3: of the park in terms of interior. Looks so good.
- 39:12Speaker 3: I think palis Abe will take it to another level.
- 39:14Speaker 3: So I haven't driven it yet, but very much looking
- 39:16Speaker 3: forward to it.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. I think the Santa Fe was three
- 39:18Speaker 1: quarters good on the outside. Yeah. I look the back
- 39:22Speaker 1: end and they've been on the roads for quite a
- 39:24Speaker 1: while now, that's sort of them. What's that you get
- 39:27Speaker 1: used to get used to them. They're fine. I think
- 39:28Speaker 1: they're a great looking car. They drive fucking so well.
- 39:33Speaker 1: If you can get it with the Captain chairs spec
- 39:35Speaker 1: that would be my pick. That looks awesome. They know
- 39:38Speaker 1: how to make something right the last couple of years
- 39:40Speaker 1: they've proved that. I would I was thinking about the
- 39:42Speaker 1: twoson the other day. They should make an end version
- 39:45Speaker 1: of that. I know they've got their Genesis GV seventy Sport,
- 39:49Speaker 1: which is Magma. Yeah, they kind of took that. Yeah,
- 39:53Speaker 1: the Magma they took the I thought it was the
- 39:57Speaker 1: same as their Stinger engine and put that in there.
- 40:00Speaker 1: But I would have loved to have seen that in
- 40:01Speaker 1: the two soon. They never did that. In fact, their
- 40:04Speaker 1: end products have been they've sort of been quiet on that.
- 40:08Speaker 1: I don't know why they sell pretty well to tipc
- 40:11Speaker 1: But yes, thoughts on the new Palisade looks fantastic. I
- 40:15Speaker 1: think it's reasonably priced. It's kind of starting to creep
- 40:19Speaker 1: up there. I think they're starting to know what they've
- 40:21Speaker 1: really got. Yeah, what do you guys think of new
- 40:24Speaker 1: laws in Victoria for emergency vehicles on the side of
- 40:27Speaker 1: the road. Well, it's been a while since I've lived
- 40:30Speaker 1: in the Victorious. Yeah, pretty to this.
- 40:32Speaker 3: The laws are not new for emergency vehicles. What they're
- 40:36Speaker 3: new for though, is sort of I guess you could
- 40:40Speaker 3: call them emergency vehicles as well. But stuff like RACV
- 40:43Speaker 3: tow trucks, the city link cars that get about the
- 40:46Speaker 3: place you are now required to slow to forty for
- 40:49Speaker 3: them as well. So in theory, this is a good
- 40:53Speaker 3: idea because you need to slow down around these vehicles
- 40:55Speaker 3: because there is a worker outside next to a freeway potentially,
- 40:59Speaker 3: and they need to go home to their families at
- 41:01Speaker 3: the end of the day. Where it doesn't work, though,
- 41:04Speaker 3: is when everyone most people don't know it's a rule.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Every time I see it, I slow down, and pretty
- 41:11Speaker 3: much no one else does, or a handful do. And
- 41:13Speaker 3: finally cotton on where it's an even bigger issue is
- 41:17Speaker 3: where you're on the Hume, where you've got enormous trucks
- 41:20Speaker 3: who cannot stop on a dime. So if people all
- 41:22Speaker 3: of a sudden remember this rule and jam the brakes on,
- 41:25Speaker 3: you can cause an almighty accident here. So it's one
- 41:28Speaker 3: of those things that needs to be a rule, but
- 41:32Speaker 3: it is a very difficult one because road rules and
- 41:37Speaker 3: driver education in Australia in general is fucked, so no
- 41:40Speaker 3: one knows it's a rule. So all you're going to
- 41:42Speaker 3: get is the police doing is sting one day, finding
- 41:45Speaker 3: all these people pissing people off. I just think that
- 41:48Speaker 3: it really comes back to driver education and people needing
- 41:51Speaker 3: to get a clue on what to do on the road,
- 41:53Speaker 3: even stuff like I'm just going to very quickly digress
- 41:55Speaker 3: here stuck in traffic on the way into work, and
- 41:59Speaker 3: what I always do is, depending on if I'm in
- 42:01Speaker 3: the adelane and we're crawling, I'll move over so there's
- 42:05Speaker 3: room for motorcycles to get through. Most people don't so
- 42:09Speaker 3: you've got a motorcycle that will have decent sized gaps
- 42:12Speaker 3: for people that move out of the way, and then
- 42:14Speaker 3: other people are just oblivious to this, and it's like,
- 42:16Speaker 3: why would you not just move a little bit? And
- 42:18Speaker 3: in Europe they all do that. They actually will have
- 42:21Speaker 3: a path, a full path for a vehicle to come
- 42:24Speaker 3: through an emergency services vehicle. Everyone instinctively does it. They
- 42:27Speaker 3: move right out of the way. But we don't do
- 42:30Speaker 3: that here. Again, it just comes down too terrible driver
- 42:32Speaker 3: training and.
- 42:33Speaker 1: None relirements for it.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like, why would you not be spending all
- 42:36Speaker 3: your speed camera revenue on proper drive training for everyone?
- 42:39Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I mean you just can't rely on people's
- 42:42Speaker 1: driving skills. Like I've got a maid of mine who
- 42:45Speaker 1: is a motorbike rider and he is in hospital right
- 42:48Speaker 1: now because he broke his pelvis. He was pulling out
- 42:50Speaker 1: of work and a fucking car came in and didn't
- 42:55Speaker 1: indicate and it just took him right out. Like he's
- 42:57Speaker 1: lucky to be alive. He's in a wheelchair at the moment. Wow. Yeah,
- 43:00Speaker 1: it's one of those things with motorbike riders. I feel
- 43:04Speaker 1: for them because I don't think a lot of these
- 43:06Speaker 1: accidents are necessarily been caused by them. They've they've really
- 43:09Speaker 1: just got to look out.
- 43:10Speaker 3: For other cars most of the time. They're not like
- 43:12Speaker 3: you get the occasional person riding like an idiot and
- 43:15Speaker 3: coming off, but typically they'll just kill themselves. Yeah, but
- 43:18Speaker 3: people who are just trying to get to work on
- 43:20Speaker 3: a motorcycle are just constantly battling idiot drivers who don't
- 43:24Speaker 3: know what they're doing.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Unpredictable ones too. Let's move to Gemma in Perth. Hey,
- 43:30Speaker 1: Gemma in Perth. What is your pick for the best
- 43:33Speaker 1: ev and the most reliable? Oh? What is your pick
- 43:37Speaker 1: for best and most reliable non EV hot hatch Ah,
- 43:42Speaker 1: I'm going to say I'm going to take this one.
- 43:45Speaker 1: I really like the I thirty n Yeah.
- 43:49Speaker 3: I literally was about to say I thirty en because
- 43:51Speaker 3: it's been around for ages, heaps of accessories, people know
- 43:54Speaker 3: what they're doing. Comes with the track warranty, but Sunday
- 43:57Speaker 3: are generally pretty good with warranty as well. Yeah, if
- 44:00Speaker 3: it's not really if you want something a bit more
- 44:02Speaker 3: up to date, the new Golfer they've just launched. It
- 44:05Speaker 3: is a big step up in price, but it is
- 44:08Speaker 3: a lot of car and comes with some pretty cool
- 44:11Speaker 3: tech and I think is probably the king of the
- 44:14Speaker 3: hot hatches.
- 44:15Speaker 1: Is that the Mark eight point five?
- 44:17Speaker 3: Yes?
- 44:18Speaker 1: Yeah, because I remember when the Mark eight came out,
- 44:20Speaker 1: I was like, I was really impressed that they had
- 44:23Speaker 1: the I think they had they had like a drift
- 44:25Speaker 1: mode on that. Why have diesels disappeared from the Australian
- 44:29Speaker 1: passenger car scene? From the Australian passenger car scene? Will
- 44:33Speaker 1: they ever come back? Yeah?
- 44:36Speaker 3: Diesels are an interesting one. There's not as many of
- 44:39Speaker 3: them in passenger cars until you step up to SUVs
- 44:42Speaker 3: and stuff. I think it's a trickle down from Europe.
- 44:46Speaker 3: You've got this situation where in Europe they're less favored
- 44:49Speaker 3: because of the emissions that they have and they don't
- 44:52Speaker 3: solve the problems that they need in terms of hybridization.
- 44:54Speaker 3: That most hybrids are internal combustion petrol instead of diesel.
- 44:59Speaker 3: So as a result of we just don't see many
- 45:01Speaker 3: of those. You don't see many Chinese market cars with
- 45:03Speaker 3: diesel engines. They run a lot of petrol cars. So
- 45:06Speaker 3: I think you're just seeing a downscaling of where diesel's
- 45:09Speaker 3: being used. You will well and truly still see diesel
- 45:12Speaker 3: used in stuff like lan Cruise's Everest Ranger all that
- 45:14Speaker 3: sort of stuff for a little while yet, so it's
- 45:17Speaker 3: not dead just yet.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Last question comes from Gordon. A family car for under
- 45:23Speaker 1: eighty thousand dollars. Here you go, a bit of fun.
- 45:27Speaker 1: This guy sounds like a pain. He's a pain in
- 45:29Speaker 1: the ass. What about I think we kind of flirted
- 45:33Speaker 1: with the idea of a Beamer M forty. I ye
- 45:39Speaker 1: used obviously, Yeah.
- 45:40Speaker 3: M three forty. I think that would be cool.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Yeah, or if you still look bad ass, they still
- 45:45Speaker 1: look still.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Very current, if you can get an X three M.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Forty I yeah, that's what I said. You know, I
- 45:51Speaker 1: thought you meant three series. Oh yeah, yeah, sorry, the
- 45:54Speaker 1: three series or the the X three as well.
- 45:57Speaker 3: I think that they'd be my two picks. Fun sound good,
- 46:01Speaker 3: hopefully within.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Budget watch this space.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Maybe you put a deposit down next time.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that'd be good.
- 46:07Speaker 3: I just bought a oud E T t R s.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Ah Yeah did jh Yeah?
- 46:12Speaker 3: Yeah, run run over it tho because I don't like it.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Actually, I'll tell you what happened to my phone, right, So,
- 46:18Speaker 1: maybe I'll take a photo of this and we'll put
- 46:20Speaker 1: it on the cell shoals but what has happened with
- 46:23Speaker 1: this phone is it's it's massively crushed up the back.
- 46:27Speaker 1: So I was going for a I was going for
- 46:30Speaker 1: a bit of a run, believe it or not with
- 46:32Speaker 1: my dog. No not, yes, someone chasing you. I was.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I was running from the rspz A someone else's dog. Yeah,
- 46:41Speaker 1: it's running from that. It's running from dinner.
- 46:44Speaker 3: I have to run very fast.
- 46:47Speaker 1: So no. So basically what was happening is I was
- 46:50Speaker 1: I stopped off. It was it was late at night,
- 46:52Speaker 1: and there was actually funny enough. There was a Beamer
- 46:56Speaker 1: three series M forty I yep in a Kupra show
- 47:03Speaker 1: group like what do you call them? Dealer shit? Like, ah,
- 47:05Speaker 1: that's cool. And it was this really nice blue and
- 47:08Speaker 1: that big pop and blue that they do. And so
- 47:10Speaker 1: I quickly sort of went over across a busy highway
- 47:13Speaker 1: to have a look at it, look at the price
- 47:14Speaker 1: all that. I could have just looked it up on carsoles. Anyway,
- 47:17Speaker 1: I'm running back over this road and I'm like fuck.
- 47:22Speaker 1: I had my headphones on and I'm sort of walking
- 47:24Speaker 1: in I could feel my phone had dropped out. I
- 47:28Speaker 1: was listening to the music and stuff, and I'm like, oh, fuck.
- 47:32Speaker 1: I've dropped my phone and I'm looking on the nature
- 47:34Speaker 1: streep and I'm like looking all around. I didn't have
- 47:35Speaker 1: a light. It was pitch black, asked this poor dude.
- 47:38Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, can you just light up your phone
- 47:39Speaker 1: so I can look for my phone? And we're both
- 47:42Speaker 1: sort of looking in the nature streep and couldn't find it.
- 47:45Speaker 1: And then I said, would you mind calling it? I'm
- 47:47Speaker 1: really sorry. I can tell it's close because I can
- 47:49Speaker 1: hear the music playing through my headphones. Yeah, yeah, no worries.
- 47:52Speaker 1: And he calls it and we're looking around. We're like,
- 47:54Speaker 1: what the fuck, and then we look in the middle
- 47:56Speaker 1: of this highway and it's just flashing in the middle of.
- 47:59Speaker 3: The high and it had been there, doubles.
- 48:02Speaker 1: It had been there for a good five minutes with
- 48:04Speaker 1: cars running all over it. So I mean, like for
- 48:07Speaker 1: like five minutes worth of cars running over I ever.
- 48:10Speaker 3: Seeing a camera that fucked Like every one of your
- 48:12Speaker 3: little camera lenses, yes, and again stupid designed by Apple
- 48:15Speaker 3: because they protrude. But every one of those camera lenses,
- 48:18Speaker 3: like carved in the whole back is shattered.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Thanks for that. I'm trying to sell this on marketplace. Yeah, no, look,
- 48:24Speaker 1: I will get it fixed. It's the problem is it's
- 48:26Speaker 1: it's only two hundred bucks to get that thing fixed,
- 48:29Speaker 1: but it's a forty five minute wait without my phone.
- 48:32Speaker 1: So I'm like, what am I going to do forty
- 48:34Speaker 1: five minutes when you come to your disk, don't tell
- 48:36Speaker 1: me how to work. Contact at the Drivershow dot com
