- 0:28Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Paul somehow remember who the third stream running
- 0:34Speaker 1: back was? Like, who's second tire of getting made fun of?
- 0:37Speaker 1: A good memory? Can't even give him a compliment without
- 0:40Speaker 1: him getting at I've watched four years of football with
- 0:43Speaker 1: Paul now and like, you know, he gets it. And
- 0:45Speaker 1: even though he might not build be like, well, this
- 0:47Speaker 1: is a dolphin route here, you know, like like Paul
- 0:50Speaker 1: superpower is just sounding convincing. He doesn't know. No, I
- 0:53Speaker 1: think it's gonna be good. I think Max's gonna feast.
- 0:56Speaker 1: I've been Max's gonna eat. Let Mackie. I have no
- 0:59Speaker 1: idea picked him out of college. No, yeah, I was.
- 1:02Speaker 1: He was on my board. McMillan. That's the kind of
- 1:05Speaker 1: guy that would be on your board. Like his measurables
- 1:08Speaker 1: Bailey's Appy's taken as a pro and he's been great
- 1:11Speaker 1: as far as being fine. He hasn't been great as
- 1:13Speaker 1: far as being fine. Like this is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled
- 1:18Speaker 1: by Duncan. All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is
- 1:24Speaker 1: Wednesday here at Gillette Stadium, and it's Deuce, it's Alex,
- 1:28Speaker 1: it's Paul, it's me, it's Matt and the booth and
- 1:31Speaker 1: we'll be here for the next two hours talking Patriots.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Still still excited about that twenty nine nothing win. But
- 1:37Speaker 1: we're turning the page to the Cleveland Browns today. Boy,
- 1:42Speaker 1: yeah I saw them last year. Well boy, you say,
- 1:44Speaker 1: oh boy, you're worried. Now. Fun, fun, fun, fun, Let's
- 1:48Speaker 1: shut down this running game. Okay, I mean it's different
- 1:50Speaker 1: than last far as being average. Oh hello Bill, Oh,
- 1:54Speaker 1: let's you want to hear what Bill has to say.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Let's do it all right, Sure, let's do it all right.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Rolling in the Cleveland here. Um. You know, it's a
- 2:03Speaker 1: really pretty impressive team to watch. Um. They have a
- 2:06Speaker 1: lot of a lot of talent, a lot of a
- 2:08Speaker 1: lead talent. Um, very well coached. Um. So some of
- 2:15Speaker 1: the big challenge here, you know, all the way across
- 2:16Speaker 1: the board. They're good and good in all areas, uh,
- 2:20Speaker 1: you know, offensively, UM with a coach Stefanski and UM
- 2:26Speaker 1: coach Callahan. This is a very very good, UM, very
- 2:32Speaker 1: talented group and a very well well coached unit, especially
- 2:36Speaker 1: in the offensive line, probably as good as anybody will see. Um,
- 2:41Speaker 1: they really know what they're doing. UM. The fundamentals and
- 2:45Speaker 1: techniques are are very good. We had trouble with them
- 2:47Speaker 1: last year. Everybody has trouble with them. A lot of
- 2:52Speaker 1: talent up front, UM Wills Tonio of course, Sake replace
- 3:01Speaker 1: Tredder at the center, and he's got a lot of experience. Teller,
- 3:06Speaker 1: Um Conklin. I mean, guys that have been all Pros,
- 3:10Speaker 1: all Rookie Pro Bowls. I mean, you name it. I mean,
- 3:13Speaker 1: it's just a really really good group, UM that again
- 3:18Speaker 1: really knows what they're doing and are are talented. UM.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You know, some good receivers obviously Cooper another very high
- 3:30Speaker 1: profile player, and Joku productive tight end you know after Ozzie,
- 3:36Speaker 1: probably the best tight end of Browns I've ever had,
- 3:39Speaker 1: which that's saying something. UM, you know, people's jones, so good,
- 3:44Speaker 1: good skill players and obviously you know Chubbs is as
- 3:48Speaker 1: good as anybody. We'll see the hunting. I mean, I
- 3:52Speaker 1: got I got a lot of backs and and they're
- 3:56Speaker 1: all good, but Chubbs, Chubbs, he's tough. H Jcobe's playing well,
- 4:01Speaker 1: you know, a big strong kid that um compliments their offense. Again,
- 4:06Speaker 1: this is a two hundred yards a game, rushing, twenty
- 4:09Speaker 1: six points a game, whatever they score, and so they
- 4:12Speaker 1: can move the ball thing, score points. They control the
- 4:14Speaker 1: clock and keep their defense off the field. And again
- 4:19Speaker 1: they're they're extremely well coached and very good fundamentally. Um. Yeah, Defensively,
- 4:25Speaker 1: it's really one word. It's fast. Everybody's fast. Linebackers are fast,
- 4:32Speaker 1: Secondary is fast, d lines fast, Garrett and clown Air.
- 4:38Speaker 1: It's good at book ends as there are a lot
- 4:42Speaker 1: of speed inside where whenever they're space, it doesn't stay
- 4:47Speaker 1: space or very long. And they get it from the
- 4:51Speaker 1: lineman pursuit. They get it from the linebackers, get it
- 4:53Speaker 1: from secondary. Yet a lot of good players obviously Ward
- 4:58Speaker 1: you know newsom Um Emerson's a high pick. Linebackers and
- 5:03Speaker 1: Joka good good linebackers, very good, very good edge players,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and they play, they play very fast, and they're very disruptive.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So they're one of the top teams in the league
- 5:18Speaker 1: in three and outs. They get your negative plays bitch
- 5:20Speaker 1: in long yard each and you know then it's all over.
- 5:23Speaker 1: So Um, you know, Clowney and Garrett is certainly cable
- 5:27Speaker 1: of wrecking a game on any play running pass with
- 5:32Speaker 1: They're explosiveness, speed, length, you name it, So very very
- 5:37Speaker 1: dangerous on every play there. And you know in the
- 5:39Speaker 1: kicking game, UM and Rogers getting the kicking and return
- 5:43Speaker 1: game and boost um two big legs. Um. You know
- 5:49Speaker 1: the field goals and punts, and they can they can
- 5:52Speaker 1: change field position, knock the ball out of the park. Um,
- 5:56Speaker 1: fifty eight yard field goal will be Carolina so or
- 5:59Speaker 1: whatever it was. It's a long one halfway up the net.
- 6:02Speaker 1: So it's I know what the leg is there, but
- 6:06Speaker 1: it's a lot, you know, so well balanced in all
- 6:10Speaker 1: the errors, very fast in their coverage. Seems they're you know,
- 6:12Speaker 1: defensive players on defense, same guys in the kicking game.
- 6:15Speaker 1: They're fast. They you got to get their speed or
- 6:19Speaker 1: it's hard to getting they started. So really good, good
- 6:23Speaker 1: all a round football team doesn't turn the ball over.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Very fundamentally sound, very fast, explosive and a lot of
- 6:30Speaker 1: a lot of talented players. So they've been challenged for
- 6:34Speaker 1: us this week all the way across the boards. No
- 6:36Speaker 1: no one guy that can stop stop their running game,
- 6:39Speaker 1: No one guy that can block all the players that
- 6:42Speaker 1: need to be blocked. You know, we're gonna have to
- 6:43Speaker 1: play good, good team football, discipline the fundament as fundamentally
- 6:49Speaker 1: sound as they are, and with good communication awareness for
- 6:55Speaker 1: sixty minutes because they they can hit you on any play.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Very very talent on the team in every game. I
- 7:03Speaker 1: lost a couple of games to all close games and
- 7:05Speaker 1: they're all every game has been close onwhere or the other. So, um,
- 7:11Speaker 1: it's probably we should expect in what way? In what
- 7:17Speaker 1: ways has recent complimented their skill positions? Yeah, well, I
- 7:23Speaker 1: mean they have a great running game, play action passes.
- 7:25Speaker 1: You know they're they're not in a lot of long
- 7:26Speaker 1: yarded situations. Um. You know he does nice jobs stepping
- 7:29Speaker 1: up in the pocket. Um just got in the ball
- 7:32Speaker 1: to their their receivers, their skill guys, including Hunt. You
- 7:35Speaker 1: know Hunt's got a lot of production in the passing
- 7:37Speaker 1: game as well as he's probably got what three hundred
- 7:39Speaker 1: years of Russian whatever it is. Um, a good decision
- 7:43Speaker 1: making as a turn the ball over. So how much
- 7:48Speaker 1: does he look similar to what you saw when he
- 7:51Speaker 1: was here or how much has there been bros to that? Yeah? Well,
- 7:55Speaker 1: I mean what's about the same. Do you think he's
- 7:59Speaker 1: shrunk or gotten bigger? I don't know, night, We're all
- 8:03Speaker 1: about the same. Yeah, I mean, Hcobe looks like Jacoby,
- 8:06Speaker 1: you know, big kid's strong arm, you know, tough, smart,
- 8:12Speaker 1: does a good job of you know with with the
- 8:15Speaker 1: system that they're running, does a good job. It doesn't
- 8:17Speaker 1: turn the ball over, get some scrambly yards, gets the
- 8:20Speaker 1: ball to Cooper, people's hunt. Um, obviously in Joku so
- 8:28Speaker 1: does a nice job of run of the offense. I
- 8:31Speaker 1: mean they're scoring whatever, it's twenty six points a game.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I mean it's part of the quarterbacks job with the
- 8:36Speaker 1: ball score points. People. Do you expect to have Mac
- 8:39Speaker 1: Jones back this weekend? Um, we'll assume see what it's
- 8:43Speaker 1: like today go from there. How similar are Bingley, Zappy
- 8:52Speaker 1: and Mac Jones skill sets? Hasn't been an easy transition
- 8:55Speaker 1: having him, Um, you know, to take the first naps.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I practice a similar though I don't know, oh right
- 9:06Speaker 1: handed exactly? Does how Bailey played against Lions last week.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Pretty clean game overall. Um, change the timetable for bringing
- 9:19Speaker 1: back back, maybe afford you a little more lenience on
- 9:22Speaker 1: the back end of the pretty back back totally independent,
- 9:30Speaker 1: I think no, but not anything to do. It. Is
- 9:36Speaker 1: Mac the starter when he's ready to go, We'll see
- 9:40Speaker 1: where is that? I don't know, but what you see
- 9:47Speaker 1: from your rand, you means that far it's been inconsistent.
- 9:54Speaker 1: A better moments goodn't been. Is it possible that Mac
- 10:00Speaker 1: to be healthy enough to back up Bailey as you
- 10:03Speaker 1: wouldn't started. I don't know. We'll see what kind of
- 10:12Speaker 1: challenges creating. So yeah, everything again. But as I said,
- 10:18Speaker 1: they're very well coached. Callahan does a tremendous job of
- 10:21Speaker 1: the offensive line. Their fundamentals are good, their schemes are good. Um.
- 10:25Speaker 1: They create opportunities for the backs, and then the backs specifically,
- 10:29Speaker 1: Chuck does a lot on his own. He's very hard
- 10:33Speaker 1: to tackle. He's got tremendous contact balance, playing strength, UM,
- 10:38Speaker 1: good vision, good patience. He really sets up his blocks well.
- 10:41Speaker 1: He gets the most out of every block, and then
- 10:44Speaker 1: he's very hard to get on the ground. Um plays
- 10:47Speaker 1: up a good ball security and as that explosive plays,
- 10:50Speaker 1: gets a lot of tough yards, gets a lot of
- 10:52Speaker 1: consistent yards. He's he's really good, and he's got a
- 10:58Speaker 1: good group in front of him. And they absolutely know
- 11:01Speaker 1: what they're doing. They they handled defensive challenges as well
- 11:06Speaker 1: as anybody. Stunts, alignments, blitzays. I mean they they waxed
- 11:12Speaker 1: us pretty good last year, especially early in the game. Um,
- 11:18Speaker 1: so I said, we got to work it out for
- 11:20Speaker 1: us coach, they had run a lot of two tight
- 11:25Speaker 1: end sets on offense. Just what does that do to
- 11:28Speaker 1: stress the defense? Especially? All right, Well, I think we
- 11:32Speaker 1: got the essentials there. Evan's question, did you cut out
- 11:34Speaker 1: right as Evan? Well, we're gonna have Evan ourselves get
- 11:37Speaker 1: the answer that we can ask him. But uh, there's
- 11:39Speaker 1: no way we win this game. I sound pretty good.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I mean that, I mean, yeah, that was you know,
- 11:46Speaker 1: like he always does that. But I mean, I mean,
- 11:50Speaker 1: really he said the coaches two, Fred, your eyes lit
- 11:53Speaker 1: up at that. I saw you, well coached some something
- 11:56Speaker 1: he didn't say last week of the opponent. Um, but
- 11:59Speaker 1: he really laid it on thick today. Huh. And and
- 12:03Speaker 1: you know, listen, we talked about it yesterday. Teams know
- 12:06Speaker 1: that Cleveland has to run. Yet they are still averaging
- 12:09Speaker 1: one hundred and ninety yards a game. That's ridiculous. So
- 12:14Speaker 1: there's you know that's not nobody's held them under one
- 12:17Speaker 1: seventy I mean the lowest was Pittsburgh one seventy one,
- 12:20Speaker 1: right in two seventy one, seventy seven and two thirty. Yeah,
- 12:24Speaker 1: so it's not like one game they had four hundred
- 12:26Speaker 1: yards and that skewed it. They're doing this against everybody,
- 12:29Speaker 1: and they and like I said, the teams know that
- 12:32Speaker 1: they have to run the ball, but Jacobe prict as
- 12:34Speaker 1: their quarterback, and yet they're still leading the league in it.
- 12:38Speaker 1: So you know, between the offensive line and Chub and
- 12:41Speaker 1: who's the other guy, I forget, uh Hunt, Kareem Hunt.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I mean that's a that's a powerful attack. And the
- 12:48Speaker 1: Patriots are going to have their work cut out of,
- 12:50Speaker 1: you know, for them stopping the runs, something that you
- 12:52Speaker 1: know they've yet to prove that they can do consistently. Yeah. Um,
- 12:56Speaker 1: so that you know, therein lies the challenge I think
- 12:59Speaker 1: for the Patriots. I think like the close game stuff
- 13:02Speaker 1: too that that Bill highlighted. I mean, every you know,
- 13:04Speaker 1: all the games. I mean I think it's like some
- 13:05Speaker 1: like six points that might have, you know, been the
- 13:07Speaker 1: difference in like their three of their losses. So every
- 13:10Speaker 1: game is close. You're right on last week, right, and
- 13:14Speaker 1: that weight. It's all all right down to the end.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And I mean I think, you know, we we make
- 13:20Speaker 1: a little bit of fun of Jacoby Brissett, like, but
- 13:22Speaker 1: I think he's, Yeah, he's done a head job. He
- 13:25Speaker 1: hasn't lost. I mean, he's competing sixty five percent of
- 13:27Speaker 1: his past. Yeah, he's not just going to be. But
- 13:30Speaker 1: I think he's made some He's made some throws, he's
- 13:32Speaker 1: kept them in games. Yeah, you know, it hasn't just
- 13:34Speaker 1: been all the run game and he's alone for the right.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Certainly run games a big part of it. But you
- 13:38Speaker 1: know he's he's made some throws and he hasn't killed
- 13:40Speaker 1: them with mistakes, so um, you know they're They're The
- 13:44Speaker 1: thing I keep looking at though, is is essentially the
- 13:46Speaker 1: same defenses last year and the Patriots basically scored on
- 13:49Speaker 1: every possession except one. Right, So I mean Miles Garrett
- 13:54Speaker 1: a little bit, not not quite all the way back
- 13:56Speaker 1: from his accent a couple of weeks ago. So that's
- 13:58Speaker 1: kind of what I'm looking at, Like, I know what
- 14:00Speaker 1: Bailey's Appy's a rookie, but at that point Mac Jones
- 14:02Speaker 1: wasn't much farther along the Yeah, even he was. So
- 14:05Speaker 1: if if their running game is the challenge, their defense
- 14:08Speaker 1: is the opportunity, Yeah, you know, get the But I
- 14:11Speaker 1: mean it's the same thing on on our side of
- 14:13Speaker 1: the ball, get the get running, and you know, I mean,
- 14:16Speaker 1: I mean it would be the fastest game in the
- 14:18Speaker 1: NFL so far this year. I love it. I mean
- 14:20Speaker 1: last week's game was quick too. I thought, even with
- 14:22Speaker 1: the injury, it seemed like we were already on the
- 14:24Speaker 1: radio show before four o'clock, which is crazy. But um,
- 14:28Speaker 1: but yeah, I just I really wonder if they're gonna
- 14:30Speaker 1: be able to kind of do the same thing to them.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And I mean it was a weird game because going
- 14:34Speaker 1: back and looking at it this morning, you know, Cleveland
- 14:36Speaker 1: went right down the field on him kind of the
- 14:38Speaker 1: first drive and scored a touchdown and that was it.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Next possession, the Patriots score, then Baker Mayfield throws a pick.
- 14:45Speaker 1: They score again on the very next play after the pick,
- 14:48Speaker 1: and it's fourteen nothing and then before you know it,
- 14:50Speaker 1: at the end of the game, it's forty five to seven.
- 14:52Speaker 1: So can they can they do something similar to what
- 14:54Speaker 1: they did to the defense there. I mean, of course,
- 14:56Speaker 1: it's a huge part without hunt um And and Chubb
- 15:00Speaker 1: last time. I mean that was that was huge not
- 15:02Speaker 1: having them, and they basically got away from the run
- 15:04Speaker 1: after that first drive and then they were chasing. So yeah,
- 15:06Speaker 1: the game can unfull. Well, I mean, I think it's
- 15:08Speaker 1: a kind of thing which team gets the lead and
- 15:10Speaker 1: forces the other team out of their comfort zone of
- 15:13Speaker 1: being able to run the ball. Yep, yep, quick start. Yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 1: every team wants to do it, but it's easier said
- 15:19Speaker 1: than done. Yeah. So the other you know, item that
- 15:23Speaker 1: comes out of it is the questions about Mac. Of course,
- 15:26Speaker 1: Bill was noncommittal as to when he thinks Max is
- 15:30Speaker 1: going to be back, but you know, he kind of
- 15:32Speaker 1: also skirted the question about when Mac is ready, is
- 15:35Speaker 1: he the starter? You know, he didn't give a definitive yes,
- 15:40Speaker 1: And I answered a different question. Yeah. I just remember
- 15:42Speaker 1: back in the day, you know, after that Kansas City
- 15:45Speaker 1: debacco where Brady was basically benched for Garoppolo that night,
- 15:49Speaker 1: and somebody mentioned it in the post game, and yeah,
- 15:55Speaker 1: Bill I didn't want to mention, but Bill just kind
- 15:58Speaker 1: of laughed at him, you know, saying, you know, how
- 16:00Speaker 1: could you even ask that question? That wasn't the same
- 16:03Speaker 1: reaction yea? To me, it is like to me Mac,
- 16:07Speaker 1: when Mac is ready, he'll be the starter. I mean,
- 16:10Speaker 1: it's it's that simple right now. Now. I guess if
- 16:13Speaker 1: for some reason Max's injury got elongated, you know, like
- 16:18Speaker 1: you know, you know, he tweaked it in practice and
- 16:20Speaker 1: he was at another five weeks, and in those five weeks,
- 16:23Speaker 1: Zappy is just hot as hell. Okay, yeah, you know,
- 16:26Speaker 1: I can, I can draw up any hypothetical and not
- 16:29Speaker 1: any scenario, but everything being even match is starting quarterback.
- 16:33Speaker 1: That's in my opinion. Yeah, I know, I know a
- 16:36Speaker 1: lot of Patrios fans don't share that opinion. I'm not
- 16:38Speaker 1: sure why everything He was the shiny new toy last
- 16:41Speaker 1: year and everybody like Billy, Zappy comes in and you know,
- 16:44Speaker 1: doesn't sink the ship immediately, and everyone's like onto the
- 16:47Speaker 1: next thing. I don't want to say everyone, some single people,
- 16:49Speaker 1: but I mean I think that the people who are
- 16:51Speaker 1: realistic about this and watch the games and have watched
- 16:54Speaker 1: Mac Jones, know, like, look go back and look at
- 16:57Speaker 1: how Mac Jones looked against this Brown's defense last year.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Right now, if Bailey's appy looks like that and he's
- 17:02Speaker 1: throwing you know, dimes up the seam to Kendrick Bourne
- 17:05Speaker 1: and nice little touch to Hunter Henry coming out, you know,
- 17:08Speaker 1: on the on the up and out like you know.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I mean, those are the things that Mac Jones is
- 17:12Speaker 1: capable of that we haven't seen from Bailey's Appy. And
- 17:15Speaker 1: I feel bad because I don't, like, I feel like
- 17:16Speaker 1: you're either one side or the other right now, and
- 17:18Speaker 1: you can't just be like, I'm really happy for what
- 17:20Speaker 1: Zappy has done. See what it did there? Yeah, not
- 17:23Speaker 1: on purpose, um, you know, happy to see what he's done.
- 17:25Speaker 1: But at the same time, I'm not on the illusion
- 17:27Speaker 1: that this that that all of a sudden he's way
- 17:29Speaker 1: better than Mac and Mac. But I will say this though,
- 17:33Speaker 1: I do like that Mac has probably feeling a little
- 17:35Speaker 1: bit like knowing how he is. He's here in the talk,
- 17:38Speaker 1: I mean, and it's not true like and the people
- 17:40Speaker 1: who know no. But at the same time, I think, well,
- 17:44Speaker 1: it's it's how he's got to be aware. How does
- 17:46Speaker 1: he handle that heat? Does it make him better like
- 17:48Speaker 1: it did Brady that year with when they drafted Garoppolo
- 17:52Speaker 1: and he you know, ended up. I think he did.
- 17:54Speaker 1: It was he MVP that year? I'm not sure, but
- 17:56Speaker 1: he had an amazing season and you know seasons after that. Um,
- 18:01Speaker 1: how does he handle it? Does he fold under the
- 18:03Speaker 1: pressure or does he elevate under the pressure. Does he
- 18:05Speaker 1: stop making the mistakes? I think that, you know, when
- 18:07Speaker 1: he gets back, that's that's what I look for. Does
- 18:09Speaker 1: he not make the ill advised you know pass attempts
- 18:12Speaker 1: that we that we saw that were picked off, and
- 18:14Speaker 1: you know, there were too many of those where it's like,
- 18:16Speaker 1: oh God, he threw it right to him, like those
- 18:18Speaker 1: things have to go. And like I said yesterday, I
- 18:20Speaker 1: really do believe though, you know, have with the offense
- 18:23Speaker 1: having to go through two games without him and having
- 18:26Speaker 1: to get back to fundamentals and you know, make sure
- 18:29Speaker 1: they don't make stupid mistakes. I think Mac comes back
- 18:32Speaker 1: to a better offense than he left, you know, so
- 18:34Speaker 1: a more confident one hopefully. Um. You know, we talked
- 18:37Speaker 1: a little bit out yesterday. I don't I'm not sure.
- 18:39Speaker 1: I'm not sure exactly how it translates where I still
- 18:41Speaker 1: know how you know, it's a new boy. We could
- 18:43Speaker 1: say that it's a New Bay back coming back in
- 18:45Speaker 1: and you know, there are elements that I think that
- 18:47Speaker 1: the offense probably feels better about right now than they
- 18:49Speaker 1: did when Mac went out. But well, at the same time,
- 18:51Speaker 1: maybe in protection, what's that? Certainly the protection. Yeah, the
- 18:55Speaker 1: protection's better. That's only, you know, because the protections better
- 18:58Speaker 1: because you're not throwing the ball. Then you're not throwing
- 19:00Speaker 1: it as much. Non there and long really, but you know,
- 19:03Speaker 1: the run blocking, I'm good, you know, so I'm I'm
- 19:07Speaker 1: I'm I'm excited now to get Mac back. I mean,
- 19:12Speaker 1: I want that to happen, obviously, because I'm with Mike.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I don't really think there's much of a comparison between
- 19:17Speaker 1: the two. But I'm just I'm not as like, I
- 19:22Speaker 1: don't think they played any better offensively Sunday than they did,
- 19:25Speaker 1: say in against Baltimore. I don't. I think for what
- 19:29Speaker 1: they were being asked to do, I think they did. Okay, Yeah,
- 19:33Speaker 1: I would like to do what the coach said when
- 19:35Speaker 1: he was talking about Jacoby Brissett. Moved the ball and
- 19:37Speaker 1: score points. That's what I want. Yeah, well they didn't.
- 19:42Speaker 1: But is that because of the OFFENSI itself or Zappy? Yeah? Both, Well,
- 19:47Speaker 1: what they asked Zappy to do. Yeah, now, I believe
- 19:50Speaker 1: they asked Zappy to do that because that's all they
- 19:53Speaker 1: believe that he can do. Right now. No, that's no
- 19:55Speaker 1: shot at him. No, he's been in the league for
- 19:57Speaker 1: twenty minutes, right, So, like you're gonna ask him to
- 20:00Speaker 1: hand the ball off, and like Mike said, you do
- 20:03Speaker 1: not want to ask him to drop back on third
- 20:06Speaker 1: and ten and starts singing in around the yard. That's
- 20:09Speaker 1: not going to work. They are asking Mac Jones to
- 20:12Speaker 1: do that, that's right. They're not afraid to throw the
- 20:15Speaker 1: ball on third and twelve with Mac Jones, which is
- 20:18Speaker 1: why you're getting some mistakes, that's right. I also think
- 20:20Speaker 1: the mistakes have been a little bit, a little bit,
- 20:23Speaker 1: not a lot, a little bit overblown like turnover Machine.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I think that's a little harsh on Mac. And you
- 20:29Speaker 1: guys know that I'm not completely sold that Mac is
- 20:32Speaker 1: the be all end all right, but I've heard more
- 20:35Speaker 1: comments in the last week and a half negatively about
- 20:38Speaker 1: Mac than I've heard in the previous year plus. Oh,
- 20:42Speaker 1: I agree, and he didn't like he hasn't played the
- 20:45Speaker 1: Boo birds are out, but he hasn't played. Yeah, like
- 20:48Speaker 1: the negativity came after he stopped playing. Oh yeah, as
- 20:51Speaker 1: soon as they saw somebody you know come in and play.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I just can't Yeah, exactly, I can't even get into
- 20:58Speaker 1: it because it's not even it's not even an apples
- 21:00Speaker 1: to apples comparison. You know, they're not being asked to
- 21:04Speaker 1: do the same thing. You know, So, like you said, dudes,
- 21:07Speaker 1: maybe in this game they open it up a little bit.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I don't know, but let's remember what Mac did to
- 21:13Speaker 1: this defense last year. Yeah, you know, I mean probably,
- 21:17Speaker 1: I don't know if it's best game, but but definitely
- 21:19Speaker 1: some of his best throws. It's If it wasn't his
- 21:21Speaker 1: best game, it was one of the top three, I
- 21:23Speaker 1: think it was his best game. I think he made
- 21:25Speaker 1: more throws that were impressive in that game than in
- 21:30Speaker 1: any other. That more that I would say, like looking
- 21:33Speaker 1: back at the game, plays that stuck out in my
- 21:35Speaker 1: mind over the course of the season, like remembering that
- 21:38Speaker 1: Burn throw, remembering that Hunter Henry throw, like memorable strides.
- 21:41Speaker 1: It was so easy. It looked so easy that game.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I mean, I was like the born one and he
- 21:46Speaker 1: just threw up between two guys. It was like, what
- 21:49Speaker 1: is going on right now? They're just they're dealing. So
- 21:52Speaker 1: you know, I we'll see, We'll see what he's able
- 21:56Speaker 1: to do. And you know, is is Stevenson able to
- 21:58Speaker 1: get going or you know, do they they just sell
- 22:00Speaker 1: out to stop Stevenson? And you know, I think it's
- 22:03Speaker 1: worth wondering too, or the Patriots can be able to
- 22:05Speaker 1: get complimentary performance from one of their other running backs.
- 22:09Speaker 1: And I actually another little nugget I caught Brown's last
- 22:12Speaker 1: year was the last time J J. Taylor actually played
- 22:15Speaker 1: like six carries for like eleven yards. But that was
- 22:17Speaker 1: the last game action that JJ Taylor interressing. I did
- 22:19Speaker 1: not know them. So maybe maybe it's lining up again
- 22:22Speaker 1: for him to get back out there. I think a chance.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I think they need some complimentary play. I don't I
- 22:28Speaker 1: struggle imagining a game plan where it's just Romander Stevenson
- 22:31Speaker 1: was a whistle campy, but that's like what is it
- 22:34Speaker 1: Harris or Pierre Strong too? You know, yeah, Like, well,
- 22:39Speaker 1: I don't know, like they're going to run the ball, yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 1: Like I think even if Matt comes back and plays,
- 22:44Speaker 1: they're going to run the ball predominantly. This is a
- 22:47Speaker 1: bad run defense. Yeah, so I think that part of
- 22:50Speaker 1: it lines up perfectly for what you need because they're
- 22:53Speaker 1: so bad against the run back to back weeks. Um,
- 22:56Speaker 1: did you guys talk about the Jeremy Fowler comment? No? All, Um,
- 23:01Speaker 1: he on ESPN he had a thing, small little item
- 23:07Speaker 1: buried in his game recaps, I guess, and he just
- 23:10Speaker 1: said that Mac has a decent chance to play. I
- 23:14Speaker 1: think was the word this week, and he it was.
- 23:17Speaker 1: He made it even last week. He made it interesting, Um,
- 23:22Speaker 1: whether or I was gonna play, which I'm just kind
- 23:25Speaker 1: of stating that I want to look it up so
- 23:27Speaker 1: I can I can write it perfectly. I'm gonna state
- 23:29Speaker 1: the facts or what he said, and then I'll you know,
- 23:32Speaker 1: I'll tell you necessarily what I think of the report itself. Um,
- 23:39Speaker 1: I'm not necessarily sure. I look at it the same way. Um,
- 23:43Speaker 1: But do you think he has I mean, I said
- 23:46Speaker 1: a foregone conclusion that he doesn't play this week? What
- 23:49Speaker 1: do you guys think? I'm not quite there yet, but
- 23:52Speaker 1: I based on what I saw of him at practiced
- 23:54Speaker 1: last Friday, like I still think it's It's like it
- 23:57Speaker 1: wasn't he said he made it interesting last week. It
- 24:02Speaker 1: wasn't close last week. Like anybody that watched these videos
- 24:06Speaker 1: that they're showing now on the Sports Hub. It thinks
- 24:09Speaker 1: that guy was remotely close to playing in an NFL game.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I don't. I mean, I suppose guys have played worse
- 24:15Speaker 1: than that, but I don't see why you would want
- 24:17Speaker 1: a guy playing looking like that. Right, Paul, I found
- 24:22Speaker 1: has a decent chance to play. Right, He told his
- 24:25Speaker 1: progressed and even made last week's decision to go with
- 24:27Speaker 1: Bailey Zappy interesting, Jones is dealing with a high ankle sprain.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Blah blah blah. If Jones is healthy, he's the quarterback.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Zappy hours agree. Yeah, listen, I give him a chance
- 24:36Speaker 1: to play this week. But that's good because that's that's
- 24:38Speaker 1: exactly the words. So I'm glad that that Alex found that.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I will before I say he's got no shot or
- 24:46Speaker 1: he's definitely playing, I'll reserve judgment when Evan comes in.
- 24:49Speaker 1: We'll see what he looks like today. We'll get the
- 24:51Speaker 1: pictures today and then, but we're not going to know.
- 24:54Speaker 1: I don't think he'll play this week. Yeah, but I
- 24:57Speaker 1: don't know. You could watch him on the practice field
- 24:59Speaker 1: and I'm like, wow, he looks like a thousand times
- 25:01Speaker 1: better than he did last week. I also find it interesting,
- 25:04Speaker 1: and this is no why would you show that the
- 25:07Speaker 1: media is there. This is no disrespect to it because
- 25:09Speaker 1: if he's trying to get ready to play, you're trying
- 25:11Speaker 1: to get ready to play, but you're not gonna limp. No,
- 25:13Speaker 1: I know, but you don't have to limp. But he
- 25:15Speaker 1: didn't he you know, like, we're not going to know
- 25:18Speaker 1: from what the media sees whether he's ready. No, I
- 25:21Speaker 1: want to see him moving. Okay, last week he couldn't move. Yeah,
- 25:24Speaker 1: he looked like he I think Mike used the term
- 25:27Speaker 1: winced as he threw when he landed, like almost like
- 25:30Speaker 1: he was wincing. He just he doesn't want to push
- 25:32Speaker 1: off on the balls of his feet, on his feet.
- 25:34Speaker 1: If I see that again, I'm gonna say he's not playing.
- 25:37Speaker 1: But if I see him bouncing around a little bit
- 25:39Speaker 1: more and not looking like he's favoring it, then maybe
- 25:41Speaker 1: I'll say, well, what if they tell him don't bounce around?
- 25:44Speaker 1: It's the media's card. I'm serious. It's down to that level,
- 25:49Speaker 1: like he's either going to play. But if if he's
- 25:53Speaker 1: gonna play, you gotta let him try to get ready. No,
- 25:55Speaker 1: but if you're planning for Zappi or Hoyer much difference.
- 25:58Speaker 1: But if you're planning for Mac or Zappy, I think
- 26:01Speaker 1: there's a big difference in how you go about planning
- 26:04Speaker 1: for that game. I mean, I think either way you're ready,
- 26:07Speaker 1: You're ready for the run, and it's just a question
- 26:09Speaker 1: how much you're gonna really feel threatened by the potential
- 26:12Speaker 1: of the deep pass. I think that for me would
- 26:14Speaker 1: be the kind of key turning point of how you
- 26:16Speaker 1: know how much deep coverage are we gonna need, especially
- 26:20Speaker 1: Thornton's getting into that. To me, it's just more about
- 26:21Speaker 1: the volume. They'll throw the ball more often with Mac
- 26:24Speaker 1: Jones than they will would Zappy. I don't think there
- 26:26Speaker 1: was a whole lot of difference in what they asked.
- 26:28Speaker 1: What about fifty fifty balls and stretch zone. I thought
- 26:30Speaker 1: they threw a handful of fifty fifty balls last week
- 26:33Speaker 1: and they resulted in penalties against the other team they
- 26:35Speaker 1: Like I said this yesterday, that's true. That was part
- 26:38Speaker 1: of their offense. Like I know, everybody says, did you
- 26:41Speaker 1: see Zappy put the ball in Harm's way? Did Yeah?
- 26:44Speaker 1: I actually I saw him throw three that I could
- 26:45Speaker 1: think of off the top of my head. Yeah, it's true,
- 26:47Speaker 1: two to Parker and one to Thornton. Yeah, and two
- 26:50Speaker 1: of them resulted in penalties. Yeah. I mean, I'm not
- 26:53Speaker 1: telling you that we're going to design this so get
- 26:55Speaker 1: a penalty on this play. But they did throw a
- 26:57Speaker 1: couple of fifty fifties. They did none. All three of
- 27:00Speaker 1: those guys were covered. They were not open. No, that's true.
- 27:03Speaker 1: And he just threw the ball up and he gave
- 27:04Speaker 1: his guy a chance to make a play, right, Yep, yep,
- 27:08Speaker 1: that's true. Five five Pats five hundred is the a
- 27:11Speaker 1: sticket hut line web radio at Patriots dot com. Is
- 27:13Speaker 1: the email address A small transaction today? Months and again. Yeah,
- 27:19Speaker 1: this guy's gone back and forth between the Dolphins like
- 27:21Speaker 1: three times, like he was here, then he was there,
- 27:23Speaker 1: then he was here, then he was there, and now
- 27:24Speaker 1: he was back here again. There were months that run
- 27:28Speaker 1: months and uh some more. Linebacker death. I mean, I
- 27:31Speaker 1: I shudder to think that this might have anything to
- 27:34Speaker 1: do with the defense. I don't want to think that
- 27:35Speaker 1: at all. I just think this is so please some
- 27:37Speaker 1: sort of special teams move, maybe for like the Harvey
- 27:39Speaker 1: Longie of at all the Union extra special teams linebacker. Um,
- 27:43Speaker 1: but if he's playing linebacker snaps. Okay, so let's look
- 27:46Speaker 1: at it. You know, it could be just he was available,
- 27:48Speaker 1: we bring him back, you know whatever. But what if
- 27:50Speaker 1: it is a special teams thing and they're looking at
- 27:52Speaker 1: the coverage and like we need to infuse a little
- 27:55Speaker 1: bit something into this coverage team. I mean it's possible.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I mean, dug Dugger kind of claimed responsibility on that
- 28:01Speaker 1: long return get out. Yeah yeah, even special teams nonsense.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Remember I said, I said that yesterday it looked like
- 28:08Speaker 1: Dugger got caught inside on play. Yeah. Yeah, he he
- 28:12Speaker 1: confirmed that. Wow. I usually don't. I usually get I
- 28:15Speaker 1: usually get my diet pepsi's during special team sport. But
- 28:18Speaker 1: you know, maybe it's taking those guys out. I mean
- 28:21Speaker 1: they've got their plates full anyways. Yeah, maybe it's like,
- 28:23Speaker 1: all right, let's get Duggar out of there. You know,
- 28:25Speaker 1: he's got enough to do on defense and we'll bring
- 28:27Speaker 1: somebody else in. I don't want Dugger off of those
- 28:29Speaker 1: I think he's one of the best tacklers on the team.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Yeah he is. I want him out there. He needs
- 28:33Speaker 1: a message stuff blowing unless he gets pinned inside. Yeah,
- 28:37Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, anybody can make a mistake. Mistakes
- 28:41Speaker 1: aren't acceptable, hear, Paul. It's a little different when a
- 28:45Speaker 1: frontline player makes a mistake, as opposed to maybe Hobby
- 28:47Speaker 1: LONGI was involved in some of those earlier. And that's
- 28:50Speaker 1: all he's there for, right, you know, And I'm not
- 28:52Speaker 1: saying that that's what happened for all I know, he
- 28:55Speaker 1: was fine and they just decided to move on. You
- 28:57Speaker 1: have one job, right, yeah, little little depth, but I'm
- 29:01Speaker 1: not sure what exactly. So that fiels the practice squad though, right,
- 29:05Speaker 1: that does for the current moment, which I think a
- 29:07Speaker 1: lot of people thought, yeah, little Jordan would would land back.
- 29:10Speaker 1: That was where I was. Yeah, he's gone, Yeah did
- 29:12Speaker 1: he get did he get signed? I don't know. We're
- 29:14Speaker 1: kind of waiting to see. Oh yeah he's still out there,
- 29:16Speaker 1: but he's been released, released him off the roster. But
- 29:19Speaker 1: I think a lot of people just assumed he would
- 29:21Speaker 1: resign with the practice squad, okay, and then they filled
- 29:24Speaker 1: the practice squad spot with Ken, So now it's easy
- 29:26Speaker 1: to create another spot. I'm not saying, but he's out there.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Anyone can sign, can sign him right now? Yeah, I mean,
- 29:32Speaker 1: you know, maybe they promote JJ or Kevin Harris, one
- 29:35Speaker 1: of those two up to the active roster and then
- 29:37Speaker 1: they've got another spot. Rights, So was there an opening
- 29:40Speaker 1: on the fifty three right now? But no, there I
- 29:44Speaker 1: don't think there should be, not at the moment. Okay,
- 29:47Speaker 1: So they'd have to do another movement in order to
- 29:50Speaker 1: get bring somebody up. Haven't checked my numbers, Yeah, okay, no,
- 29:55Speaker 1: we'll see. I mean they're going to have to bring
- 29:58Speaker 1: at least one, if not two running back acts up. Yeah,
- 30:01Speaker 1: it is an open spot. There is no one spot
- 30:04Speaker 1: right okay, okay on the roster. Yeah, yes, yeah, okay,
- 30:08Speaker 1: so maybe Kevin Harris time, perhaps J J. Taylor as
- 30:13Speaker 1: long as we have more than one active running back
- 30:16Speaker 1: this time. I mean, whoever it is is kind of
- 30:18Speaker 1: stepping into a favorable situation. Like I mean, if you're
- 30:21Speaker 1: a Pierre Strong or Kevin Harris in your first game,
- 30:23Speaker 1: you're you know, you know, we got Ramondre to take
- 30:25Speaker 1: the bulk of it, but you're gonna get some softened
- 30:27Speaker 1: up defense. Yes, you're going up against I mean, the
- 30:30Speaker 1: keying on you. But at the same time, there there
- 30:32Speaker 1: could be some opportunities for you know, a new guy
- 30:34Speaker 1: to kind of have a nice game and maybe stand
- 30:37Speaker 1: out well. Listen, I'm excited about this game in you know,
- 30:41Speaker 1: can the Patriots defense once again rise up and stop
- 30:47Speaker 1: a team that's very high up in the rankings, you know,
- 30:50Speaker 1: when they run the ball, you know, and if we
- 30:52Speaker 1: if you can hold them to around one hundred yards
- 30:55Speaker 1: or something, that's a job well done. Yeah, excellent performance. Yeah.
- 31:01Speaker 1: I mean, assuming the game doesn't get out of hand. Yeah,
- 31:03Speaker 1: and they have to pass. Yeah, if they if they have,
- 31:05Speaker 1: if they were allowed to run for four quarters and
- 31:07Speaker 1: they only get one hundred yards, that's a good job
- 31:09Speaker 1: by the run defense. Yeah. Yeah, I mean that's about
- 31:12Speaker 1: half away. It's the other thing. It's like, you know,
- 31:15Speaker 1: everybody's like, well they only get up twenty seven to
- 31:17Speaker 1: green bait while they average sixteen. Yeah, like that's not good.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Just like, yeah, one hundred yards might not sound great defensive,
- 31:24Speaker 1: but they average two hundreds, So that's unbelievable, right, I mean,
- 31:27Speaker 1: if they stop them to one hundred yards, that would
- 31:29Speaker 1: be a really good effort. The game that scares me
- 31:32Speaker 1: is the Colts game from last year, because I think
- 31:34Speaker 1: that's you know, not a great quarterback, but Jonathan Taylor
- 31:37Speaker 1: and a ground game that kind of just made it.
- 31:40Speaker 1: That's true, they were kind of powerless to counter that one.
- 31:42Speaker 1: So that's the concern. But I I don't know. I
- 31:44Speaker 1: feel pretty confident about this game. We're not coming off
- 31:47Speaker 1: a bye this year. Yeah. And it's not indoors tonight,
- 31:49Speaker 1: you know, it's always they're not pumping in. They turn
- 31:52Speaker 1: the heat in and the COVID and the music, right heat,
- 31:55Speaker 1: COVID music. Yep, all right, A five five Pats five
- 31:58Speaker 1: hundred is the A ticket hut line web radio at
- 32:01Speaker 1: Patriots dot com is the email address anything around the NFL,
- 32:04Speaker 1: and we need to talk about I'm just seeing uh
- 32:07Speaker 1: still the Adams thing is Adam slingering out there Kansas
- 32:10Speaker 1: City him. The more I watch it, the more the
- 32:14Speaker 1: guy I think God exactly what he wanted. I think
- 32:16Speaker 1: he walked in front of him on purpose and kind of.
- 32:20Speaker 1: I mean, you can't be paid, you can't shove him
- 32:22Speaker 1: and knock him over. He's gonna get at the very least,
- 32:24Speaker 1: he's gonna get heavily fined. Yeah, he could get suspended.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Do you think he do you think the guy who
- 32:29Speaker 1: gets pushed gets some money out of out of him?
- 32:32Speaker 1: I hope not. I know he's like that seems like
- 32:35Speaker 1: a calculated thing if mister Duggan from the Brady Bunch. No,
- 32:39Speaker 1: I'm not saying it definitely was watched in front of
- 32:41Speaker 1: him on purpose. I put my that's that's my opinion
- 32:46Speaker 1: of it. I think, well, I don't know. I think
- 32:48Speaker 1: the guy had his head down and yeah, yeah, and
- 32:50Speaker 1: he knew he was there down on purpose. He definitely
- 32:54Speaker 1: wanted to jump in front to get him, but I
- 32:56Speaker 1: don't think he realized how close he was to him. Yeah,
- 32:58Speaker 1: and then he looked up in and Adam shoved. I
- 33:01Speaker 1: think he put his head down on purpose. Yeah, that
- 33:05Speaker 1: willfully ignorant. What is the way I would describe it
- 33:09Speaker 1: was he had to actively think about it. Wasn't it
- 33:12Speaker 1: wasn't cool, but he had no idea he was there
- 33:15Speaker 1: until he hit him. He had his head I mean,
- 33:18Speaker 1: Adams had his head down and the guy get up
- 33:22Speaker 1: and he just pushed him. I totally agree with Alex.
- 33:24Speaker 1: You can't just push the guy down. It was ridiculous.
- 33:27Speaker 1: It was a ridiculous reaction. Yeah, so that's going on. Yeah,
- 33:32Speaker 1: it sounds like Dak's going to be be back potentially,
- 33:35Speaker 1: um Skylar Skylar is gonna start for for them. Yeah,
- 33:40Speaker 1: sounds like Tyreek is gonna be okay. Interesting times in
- 33:42Speaker 1: the AFC. I don't really understand the whole thing in Miami.
- 33:46Speaker 1: I don't really understand what's going on. He didn't have
- 33:48Speaker 1: a concussion, but he's still in concussion protocol, Like, I
- 33:50Speaker 1: don't understand that. Yeah, I think they're getting royally screwed,
- 33:53Speaker 1: the Dolphins. They probably has the post of children for
- 33:56Speaker 1: concussion and that's what happened. Yeah, yeah, all right, let's
- 34:03Speaker 1: get off. The quote that's getting is the one that
- 34:05Speaker 1: really stuck out to me was the totally independent quote
- 34:08Speaker 1: from Bill. Did you guys say too that? Really? No?
- 34:11Speaker 1: The totally independent what you know? Does Zappy's performance have
- 34:14Speaker 1: anything to do with you know, does that allow you
- 34:17Speaker 1: more time to wait before Mac? And he said that
- 34:19Speaker 1: they're totally independent. That tells me when Max, when Mack
- 34:22Speaker 1: is healthy, he will play regardless. I wish he would
- 34:25Speaker 1: just say it. Um, all right, let's get to the phones.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Patty's an agawam. What's up? Patty? Hey, sorry about to
- 34:33Speaker 1: cut out yesterday. Guys. Um, I know there's a lot
- 34:36Speaker 1: of love for that be going on, but took me
- 34:38Speaker 1: in camp McLennan. Um, so, I just had sort of
- 34:43Speaker 1: a big broad question. I looked at the schedule today
- 34:46Speaker 1: and there's there's a couple of things that we're in
- 34:49Speaker 1: the offensively and the two biggest thing we saw him
- 34:53Speaker 1: was Mack was in there and when Bailey's Appy was
- 34:55Speaker 1: in there. Do you think, um, there's enough talent found
- 35:00Speaker 1: this team to sort of but few what we saw
- 35:04Speaker 1: last year, like towards the you know, the final stretch
- 35:08Speaker 1: of the year where they would get out the slow start.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Do you think if if they can't clean up the
- 35:14Speaker 1: issues that they're having on third down and more specifically
- 35:18Speaker 1: in the red zone, that are we are we going
- 35:20Speaker 1: to be able to win some of these games down
- 35:21Speaker 1: the stretch. I mean, I think it's a lot like
- 35:25Speaker 1: last year. I think you're totally right about the starts, um,
- 35:29Speaker 1: And that's what I'm waiting for is when can this
- 35:32Speaker 1: team get over the hump? And you know, you're right,
- 35:34Speaker 1: they don't have, you know, all the dripping with talent
- 35:37Speaker 1: a lot of the teams do. But I think they're
- 35:39Speaker 1: good enough. It's just you know, it's just tough. I
- 35:42Speaker 1: haven't seen them beat a real good team or as
- 35:45Speaker 1: kind of we were talking about the last show in
- 35:47Speaker 1: the postgame just getting behind and having like the adversity
- 35:50Speaker 1: and thinking like, man, they are going to lose today,
- 35:52Speaker 1: and then have them turn it around and pull it out.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Like I just think that's a sign of a a
- 35:56Speaker 1: young team that's starting to grow. I'd even just to
- 36:00Speaker 1: see them get off to a good start against a
- 36:01Speaker 1: good team and see, you know, even when they're even
- 36:03Speaker 1: in favorable conditions against a good team, how does it look? Right? Yeah,
- 36:10Speaker 1: And I'll even take like it. I'll even take a
- 36:12Speaker 1: cheap win over a team like Buffalow or Miami Is
- 36:15Speaker 1: down the stretch of the year. I mean, I know
- 36:17Speaker 1: last year's Buffalo game was kind of the cheap win
- 36:19Speaker 1: too because of the conditions. But I mean, I just
- 36:23Speaker 1: want to see the team makes the playoffs again more
- 36:25Speaker 1: than anything. I just I mean, I don't know how
- 36:28Speaker 1: you like look around the league of what's going on
- 36:31Speaker 1: and you look at like the Raiders or you know,
- 36:33Speaker 1: one and four and I'll give you another one, okay,
- 36:36Speaker 1: right there? For standings, twenty of the thirty two teams
- 36:40Speaker 1: are either three and two or two and three, and
- 36:43Speaker 1: that includes the Culture or two two and one. Twenty
- 36:47Speaker 1: out of thirty two teams are thoroughly average. Yeah, so
- 36:51Speaker 1: it's it's there for them. I just they've got to
- 36:54Speaker 1: they've got to be able to beat the good teams.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Otherwise I feel like it's it's gonna be similar to
- 36:58Speaker 1: last year. They're gonna make a push. They'll probably want
- 36:59Speaker 1: a good chunk of games here in the middle, and
- 37:01Speaker 1: then you know, those games against Buffalo and a lot
- 37:03Speaker 1: of these games are gonna come down to to you
- 37:06Speaker 1: a point, Mike, you know. Okay, so it's Cleveland, it's Chicago,
- 37:10Speaker 1: it's the Jets. I think that most people think that
- 37:15Speaker 1: the Patriots should win most, if not all, of those games. Okay,
- 37:18Speaker 1: I think this will be the toughest one out of
- 37:20Speaker 1: the ones in that stretch Cleveland. Um, but then it's
- 37:25Speaker 1: gonna come down to you know, you play Minnesota, who's available,
- 37:29Speaker 1: who's available for you, who's available for them? You know, Arizona,
- 37:33Speaker 1: same thing, the Raiders, same thing. You know, Like, if
- 37:37Speaker 1: everybody's healthy and you go into it, those games can
- 37:41Speaker 1: go like Fred's. Those are fred Coin flip games. Those
- 37:43Speaker 1: can go either way. But if you know DeVante Adams
- 37:48Speaker 1: is down, you probably should win that game. Conversely, if
- 37:53Speaker 1: you know Mac Jones is down again and you have
- 37:56Speaker 1: to play with you with Zappy, You're probably gonna lose
- 37:58Speaker 1: that game, you know, Like that's I think, what are
- 38:01Speaker 1: you looking at for those games? You know? Cincinnati another
- 38:05Speaker 1: one of those games. If they're all healthy, you're going
- 38:07Speaker 1: to be a hard press to win that game. Yep,
- 38:11Speaker 1: let's go to Matt in Ohio. What's up, Matt? Hey?
- 38:15Speaker 1: How you guys? Don good? Matt? Whereabouts in Ohio? Are
- 38:18Speaker 1: you buy Cleveland or Cincinnati? Neither? I'm actually and uh
- 38:24Speaker 1: I work in Toledo, Ohio. Okay, all right, West, Okay, yeah, Hey,
- 38:31Speaker 1: well I wanted to touch on a few things today,
- 38:33Speaker 1: But first I want to say that you your guys,
- 38:38Speaker 1: this show is just fantastic. You've You've made me a
- 38:41Speaker 1: better Patriots fan than I love listening well now now
- 38:46Speaker 1: forty weeks, I'm always super excited to hear your show.
- 38:49Speaker 1: So thank you for doing what you guys. Thank you.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Fred les to tell people how they should root for
- 38:54Speaker 1: the team. So that's good that that his lessons have
- 38:56Speaker 1: been learned. That's right. Yeah, yeah, Paul, He's always calms
- 39:01Speaker 1: me down after a bad game or you know, a
- 39:04Speaker 1: hot take on Felgrin. Matt to hear that one right,
- 39:06Speaker 1: he calm, calming influence. He calms you down after a
- 39:10Speaker 1: bad game and brings you down after a good game.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Right even even keel, thank you God forbid you have fun.
- 39:18Speaker 1: You're the one who's anti fund to bid you celebrate
- 39:21Speaker 1: a turnover? Yeah, no pictures, Mike and Fred will throw
- 39:25Speaker 1: you out of the league being happy to poor Kyle
- 39:27Speaker 1: Dugger scoop and score, and he wants to celebrate in
- 39:30Speaker 1: the end team. No, no, don't do that. All of
- 39:33Speaker 1: a sudden, it's Swan Lake in the end zone. Don't
- 39:35Speaker 1: have fun, dany Oh my god, look at that choreograph celebration. Sorry, Matt, No,
- 39:42Speaker 1: you're okay. That's why I love with you. Guys are hilarious.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Good And then the Cats twenty two with Eric and
- 39:50Speaker 1: or Evan and Alex. It's great, so cool. Yeah, they'll
- 39:53Speaker 1: be on after this. He'll tell him to keep up
- 39:55Speaker 1: the good job when he comes on. Yeah, he'll be on.
- 39:57Speaker 1: He'll be on here shortly. And then yeah, episode two
- 39:59Speaker 1: this after Yeah, Yeah, I love it, love it. Great job. Um.
- 40:03Speaker 1: But for the the last email on the yes on
- 40:07Speaker 1: yesterday's show was you guys were talking about doing the
- 40:11Speaker 1: video podcast? Yeah, and I don't. I mean it sets
- 40:16Speaker 1: up to you guys. I don't really I thought about
- 40:18Speaker 1: it a little bit. The problem with the video for
- 40:22Speaker 1: when it's live is, uh, when I try and listen
- 40:25Speaker 1: during the day, I can't lock my phone because I'm
- 40:28Speaker 1: working at the same time as I listened. So that's
- 40:30Speaker 1: the only that's my only like ding against that. But
- 40:33Speaker 1: I've obviously just listened to it on Spotify after it downloads.
- 40:36Speaker 1: But um, but I would love would be if Paul
- 40:41Speaker 1: and Douce do actually game broadcast. That would be fantastic
- 40:44Speaker 1: an alternate game broadcast. Yeah, just do the just do
- 40:49Speaker 1: the Manning Manning cast, do you guys, just do Paul
- 40:53Speaker 1: dou Yeah, we we we would do something like that seriously,
- 40:57Speaker 1: but we're not allowed to. Yeah. The league, Yeah, Fred,
- 41:01Speaker 1: Fred has thought about that. Fred and I year back
- 41:04Speaker 1: with Andy, like and all I could think of is
- 41:06Speaker 1: the Mystery Science Theater, the alien. Well, that works well
- 41:10Speaker 1: for you. You got the smaller head the et you know.
- 41:13Speaker 1: It's just like Andy would block the screen and it's
- 41:15Speaker 1: like spot, Well, we appreciate it, Matt, keep listening getting
- 41:23Speaker 1: some nice appreciate that, some delightful callership. Bill's in Oklahoma, family, Hey, Bill, family,
- 41:30Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen, how are ya doing good? Good? Thank
- 41:32Speaker 1: you good. I have a couple of questions for you guys.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Um is I know again? Coach was very ambiguous about
- 41:42Speaker 1: Max's return, and I was looking at the schedule for
- 41:45Speaker 1: the next four weeks. What are the chances they would
- 41:49Speaker 1: leave him out until after the bye? Is he healthy?
- 41:57Speaker 1: How do we know? Yeah? I think my point is
- 41:59Speaker 1: if he's hell, he's coming back. Yeah. If he's not,
- 42:01Speaker 1: and he'll be out to the body, yeah. The only reason,
- 42:04Speaker 1: and I agree with Paul, the only reason they would
- 42:07Speaker 1: hold him out is he's not one hundred percent. And
- 42:09Speaker 1: that's why I fixated on that quote. They're totally independent
- 42:12Speaker 1: what happens in the games. They're not going to rush
- 42:14Speaker 1: him back if they lose Sunday, if he's ready to
- 42:18Speaker 1: go and play the following week, he'll he'll play whin
- 42:22Speaker 1: or lose Sunday. I honestly believe that. I don't think
- 42:24Speaker 1: that Bill will rush him back. Now. I'm not telling
- 42:27Speaker 1: you he's not coming back until he's one hundred percent. Yeah,
- 42:30Speaker 1: till he will come back before he's completely what he
- 42:33Speaker 1: can do everything he needs to do right and which
- 42:36Speaker 1: includes running, you know, away from pressure. Then when he
- 42:40Speaker 1: can do that, he should play and he will play,
- 42:43Speaker 1: you know, Okay, Yeah, that's what I mean. That's my feeling,
- 42:46Speaker 1: and I agree with Paul, but that's just our opinion, right,
- 42:49Speaker 1: I don't know what Bill's thinking. Yeah, it's the high
- 42:53Speaker 1: ankle spraining. You just you just cannot risk him. I mean,
- 42:57Speaker 1: knowing how close to the ads we are on so
- 42:59Speaker 1: many different fa to the game, I would air on
- 43:02Speaker 1: the side of caution because if you reinjure that high
- 43:05Speaker 1: ankle sprain, history says that it's going to be an
- 43:08Speaker 1: extended amount, including potentially the season. So I agree that
- 43:13Speaker 1: I agree with you saying not rushing name back. But
- 43:15Speaker 1: if he's ready, he's ready. But and I trust the doctors,
- 43:17Speaker 1: but I also know there's a fine line of going.
- 43:20Speaker 1: I know he's very, very he's a strong guy and
- 43:24Speaker 1: he wants to play, but at the same time, going,
- 43:27Speaker 1: you tweaked this. It could be multiple weeks again, Bill's right, Yeah,
- 43:30Speaker 1: I mean, I do think it's a fine line that
- 43:32Speaker 1: you walk there, Yeah, trying to determine it. And I
- 43:35Speaker 1: know Mac is pushing, right, that's I see no other
- 43:38Speaker 1: reason why he'd been out in the practice field the
- 43:40Speaker 1: last two weeks. He wants to get out there. That's
- 43:43Speaker 1: gotta be Mac. Yeah, speaking about there, guess who just
- 43:47Speaker 1: walked in? Terrible bighead? What's up? Andy? Got time to kill?
- 43:52Speaker 1: I guess? Uh yeah, Unfortunately like four hours until Walker room.
- 43:56Speaker 1: You look like you don't like the City edition stuff.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Oh that's what it is. Evolution of the light cut
- 44:05Speaker 1: off are phenomenal. Bill started that all. Then he I
- 44:08Speaker 1: prefer to go to James Devlin. Such a bus So
- 44:13Speaker 1: what do we got any in your opinion? Oh? Right?
- 44:16Speaker 1: Can I ask you? Did you hit it? Bill? Yeah?
- 44:18Speaker 1: And I have a question for Fred Kersch. Why does
- 44:21Speaker 1: he refuse to say Mac Jones is our quarterback? That's
- 44:24Speaker 1: that's what I had the same. Is it just because
- 44:26Speaker 1: he's young and not a stat like or is it
- 44:29Speaker 1: legitimate that I don't know. We'll see when he gets
- 44:31Speaker 1: back out there. Fred, he's with you. It's weird, right,
- 44:35Speaker 1: You guys were often in lockstep first time ever? Right?
- 44:39Speaker 1: It really we're both lunatics, but we're never in locks
- 44:42Speaker 1: like both Paul and I believe when Mac is ready,
- 44:44Speaker 1: he will come back and play. That's what I think
- 44:47Speaker 1: with my head. So when I listen to Right and
- 44:49Speaker 1: I wish just say that, Yeah, just say I feel
- 44:51Speaker 1: like the question before about the Totally Independent, he was
- 44:55Speaker 1: asked if, yeah, I don't bla his performance. I don't
- 44:57Speaker 1: believe it's anything to do it, and he says that
- 44:59Speaker 1: the totally Independent that tells me that Bill is saying
- 45:02Speaker 1: when Mac is healthy, he will play. We can't make
- 45:06Speaker 1: that determination now because he's not healthy. I I kind
- 45:09Speaker 1: of read into that that he ain't playing this week either. Well,
- 45:11Speaker 1: he's not playing this week. I'm so sick of Jeremy
- 45:13Speaker 1: Fowler's reports at all. He's pushing it. He could have
- 45:15Speaker 1: played last week. No, I saw the video that couldn't move.
- 45:18Speaker 1: That's what I think Bill should be fired if he
- 45:20Speaker 1: played him last week. That's my opinion that you're putting
- 45:22Speaker 1: a guy out there and get hurt. Okay, um, see,
- 45:25Speaker 1: this is why they don't like him. He gets so
- 45:27Speaker 1: bombastic like Bill should have been fired last week. You
- 45:31Speaker 1: agreed with him? Me, I literally texted you you agreed
- 45:35Speaker 1: with and I think I texted them back. Yep, he
- 45:39Speaker 1: freaking agrees um. And And also Mike Reeses has reported
- 45:44Speaker 1: that he I forgot how he worded it. In such
- 45:46Speaker 1: a Mike Reess way, like the truth that it is.
- 45:49Speaker 1: My understanding of the truth is that might possibly indicate
- 45:54Speaker 1: that he's fifty to sixty percent through his rehab. Okay,
- 45:57Speaker 1: so yeah, he's only way he's not ready yet. I'm
- 46:01Speaker 1: not putting a guy out there that's half ready now.
- 46:03Speaker 1: But don't you feel like he's a guy that's like,
- 46:04Speaker 1: I'm ready, I'm ready. Yeah, that's what I said. He
- 46:07Speaker 1: was walking in. I think he's pushed it. He might
- 46:10Speaker 1: be ready if he had gotten the surgery, but he didn't.
- 46:12Speaker 1: I think he should be reconsidering that because now he goes, oh,
- 46:15Speaker 1: that guy's pretty good and Bill. Bill's not saying it's
- 46:17Speaker 1: my job. Is there any way he can get surgery now?
- 46:19Speaker 1: I mean he's already, that's I mean, could I guess?
- 46:24Speaker 1: Because it protects you, the biggest advantage to the surgery
- 46:27Speaker 1: is it does not allow you to recover. From talking
- 46:29Speaker 1: about the tight tight rope surgery, Yeah, it doesn't allow
- 46:31Speaker 1: you to recover faster. It allows you to go back
- 46:33Speaker 1: out there faster without risk of further or increased damage. Okay,
- 46:38Speaker 1: do you know this for a fact. The second part
- 46:40Speaker 1: of it, because the first part is I've been aware
- 46:42Speaker 1: of I know this as a fact as much as
- 46:45Speaker 1: an orthopedic told me that. Okay, I mean, I'm not
- 46:48Speaker 1: an orthopedic, as Bill, I'm not a doctor. Did you
- 46:50Speaker 1: talk to Eric? Did you call Eric to get to
- 46:52Speaker 1: talk to a smart person? So did? Who was way
- 46:55Speaker 1: above my head? And when he kept talking, he kept
- 46:57Speaker 1: going you get it? And I go yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 46:59Speaker 1: sure yeah, And I was like what I picked up
- 47:02Speaker 1: the Eric now works as a PR guy at a
- 47:04Speaker 1: Rhode Island hospital, Right, did you I think I told you?
- 47:07Speaker 1: I think you did tell me that. Isn't that a
- 47:08Speaker 1: great story anyway for the fans for the fans. The
- 47:13Speaker 1: first Eric's first week, Mark Daniels was doing some research
- 47:16Speaker 1: on the on the on the ankle sprain and who
- 47:18Speaker 1: who who? Who? Did you get? You didn't know everyone
- 47:24Speaker 1: that Eric arranged the Eric arranged the interview with the
- 47:27Speaker 1: specialists PR. Now, yeah, I'm not no, it's a hospital
- 47:31Speaker 1: PR like, isn't it like successful surgery? You know for
- 47:34Speaker 1: the update? But exactly that. It's communications. You're getting people
- 47:38Speaker 1: and putting people together the people that that they need
- 47:41Speaker 1: to Just you don't call up the hospital and say
- 47:43Speaker 1: can I talk to doctor James Andrews. It just must
- 47:44Speaker 1: have been an epic New Harumph of of epic proportions.
- 47:48Speaker 1: You know. It's just like I can't get away from these.
- 47:50Speaker 1: I'm judging Andy, that you're you're not on the Zappie bandwagon,
- 47:55Speaker 1: that that, oh, he could be better than Mac. I mean,
- 47:59Speaker 1: I don't totally rule it out. Like I did get
- 48:01Speaker 1: into a fight with Christian the other day because he
- 48:02Speaker 1: said zero zero chance, and I'm like, well, it's not zero.
- 48:05Speaker 1: I don't think it is. I think it's unlikely. And
- 48:08Speaker 1: I gave him one of those like ya six percent
- 48:10Speaker 1: chance seven whatever, A very low that right there, That
- 48:13Speaker 1: fifteen second SoundBite by Andy encapsulates pfw we PU. He
- 48:19Speaker 1: agreed with with Christian, but I still found a way
- 48:22Speaker 1: to get in an argument. And I think that's why
- 48:24Speaker 1: Christian got so mad. He goes, if I could turn
- 48:25Speaker 1: your money. He was screaming at me like he wanted
- 48:28Speaker 1: to kick. He was sitting in your chair, Fred, it
- 48:31Speaker 1: was for Patriots money. I thought he was coming across
- 48:33Speaker 1: the table. He was sweating by. And then we go
- 48:36Speaker 1: to break and he goes, I don't know why you
- 48:37Speaker 1: make me so mad. And then he texted me the
- 48:40Speaker 1: next day. I've been thinking about it. I love you
- 48:43Speaker 1: and I hate you. It's a common sentiment with Andy,
- 48:46Speaker 1: and I told him he used to call me the
- 48:47Speaker 1: likable jerk. I think it was worse than that. Yeah,
- 48:51Speaker 1: I think it was still. No, you call me the
- 48:52Speaker 1: likable jerk? My show that or something. Oh, yeah, I
- 48:55Speaker 1: think it was. No, it was more clever than that. No,
- 48:58Speaker 1: it was from you. Um, So I don't rule anything
- 49:04Speaker 1: out just because whatever. It's sports like guys come out
- 49:07Speaker 1: of nowhere. But this whole thing to like what he accomplished.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Do we not think that a healthy Mac would not
- 49:13Speaker 1: have beaten the Lions pretty handily? Right? Um, he might
- 49:16Speaker 1: not have gone over four in the red zone. You
- 49:18Speaker 1: might not have to kick five field goals exactly, Mac
- 49:21Speaker 1: Joe not being asked to do passes. Now, if he
- 49:26Speaker 1: was bad Mac, he might have thrown picks even and
- 49:29Speaker 1: we would have looked at it really poorly because we
- 49:31Speaker 1: would have said, who's their secondary, Like that guy got hurt,
- 49:33Speaker 1: that guy got five. But I can guarantee you even
- 49:38Speaker 1: if Mac had been quarterback, if they'd got up by
- 49:40Speaker 1: three scores, he wouldn't be thrown either, right, And that
- 49:43Speaker 1: he did last year, Well in those situations, well he
- 49:46Speaker 1: turned those games into fifty point Also, not sure what
- 49:50Speaker 1: you're trying to do, because I think this is my
- 49:52Speaker 1: big picture takeaway. Bailey's appy try to find a way
- 49:55Speaker 1: to win the game when he steps on the field, right,
- 49:57Speaker 1: whatever we need to do, how do we manage this?
- 49:59Speaker 1: Mac Jones and year which, by the way, was sort
- 50:01Speaker 1: of the game plan a year ago for Mac Jones.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Now year two, Mac is Yeah, how far can we
- 50:06Speaker 1: take this offense with Mac? Can we close the gap
- 50:08Speaker 1: with the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs and
- 50:10Speaker 1: the chart? Can we have a passing game? Can we
- 50:13Speaker 1: push it down the field if we go down three
- 50:15Speaker 1: scores against the Bills and not just put our tail
- 50:18Speaker 1: between our legs and go home. Like there were two
- 50:20Speaker 1: different objectives and that's why I also find these. You know,
- 50:24Speaker 1: maybe you should give Mac the offense you gave Zappy
- 50:26Speaker 1: No what handed off for a high sixty yards? Sure,
- 50:29Speaker 1: but are we evolving? Like the point of Mac is
- 50:33Speaker 1: to see if he's a franchise quarterback, if we're taking
- 50:35Speaker 1: it in that direction not just to win the game.
- 50:37Speaker 1: It is to win the game, but there's other right,
- 50:39Speaker 1: So I just a lot of the analysis has frustrated.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Like I was telling these guys, I talked to somebody
- 50:44Speaker 1: in football and I said that the game reminded me
- 50:46Speaker 1: a lot of the Houston win with Jacoby Brissette twenty
- 50:50Speaker 1: seven nothing, And they were like, absolutely, that's what like
- 50:53Speaker 1: my takeaway from the game was. And I don't know
- 50:55Speaker 1: how you like, say, well, why doesn't Bill do that
- 50:57Speaker 1: every time? But when you give him the third string
- 50:59Speaker 1: back up quarterback? Is it a coincidence that it's two
- 51:03Speaker 1: shutouts that they like have this really good game plan.
- 51:05Speaker 1: They control the game against a bad team or a
- 51:07Speaker 1: team that isn't as good as people think. Maybe it
- 51:09Speaker 1: could be like there's some tie ins there and those
- 51:12Speaker 1: guys face off this week. Yeah, maybe probably likely. All right,
- 51:17Speaker 1: Why y'll staring at me? I don't know. I was.
- 51:19Speaker 1: I got to carry it down. We have a guest
- 51:21Speaker 1: on you, you know, like you tend to make fun
- 51:23Speaker 1: of me. I tend to talk a lot. Guest was
- 51:26Speaker 1: as much as Fitz he does. I was letting Fitz
- 51:30Speaker 1: I call him wordy McWord word. Fitz's plan is why
- 51:34Speaker 1: say it in three words if it can take thirty Well,
- 51:36Speaker 1: you know, and it's I was listening to him last
- 51:41Speaker 1: weekend and he admitted, he goes, I make things harder
- 51:43Speaker 1: for myself than they need to. Yes, yeah he does.
- 51:46Speaker 1: Let's just take the straight path today. The comment the
- 51:48Speaker 1: open and he does every segment to be full of
- 51:52Speaker 1: three references. And it is a rule of three. It's
- 51:55Speaker 1: always three. He's like Bill, Bill got on it. You
- 51:57Speaker 1: listen to Bill today when he described how they use
- 51:59Speaker 1: multiple time ends. I mean there can be three tight ends.
- 52:01Speaker 1: There can be two tight ends, two tight ends in
- 52:03Speaker 1: a jumbo. They can overload one side, they can motion
- 52:05Speaker 1: come back to the other side, or they can start
- 52:06Speaker 1: on that side and go back to the other. So,
- 52:07Speaker 1: all right, how how well does Andy pay attention? What
- 52:10Speaker 1: did he say of this team this week that he
- 52:12Speaker 1: didn't say of the Lions last Well? He mentioned the
- 52:15Speaker 1: quarterback in the offense, like he didn't start with the
- 52:18Speaker 1: Jack Fox and the crisp boards of the world. That
- 52:21Speaker 1: was the tough one. I know what you. I know
- 52:22Speaker 1: what it is because I know you. Yeah, that's a
- 52:24Speaker 1: tough one. He mentioned that this team was well coached.
- 52:27Speaker 1: He never mentioned he mentioned well coached a couple of
- 52:31Speaker 1: times coached Stefanski a couple of times. Yeah, I disagree
- 52:34Speaker 1: with him. He never said that. Coach Stefanski drove it
- 52:36Speaker 1: down your throat last year and then decided to go
- 52:38Speaker 1: five wide and let Baker Mayfield throw a pick to
- 52:40Speaker 1: lose the game. So how well coached are they? I
- 52:42Speaker 1: don't really buy it. But the quarterback last week. He
- 52:46Speaker 1: didn't mention Jared Goff last week until postgame when he
- 52:49Speaker 1: said Jared Goff good quarterback, and I'm like, no, he isn't.
- 52:51Speaker 1: He turns into a puddle of goo when he plays usual.
- 52:54Speaker 1: He certainly did. I was mad at myself. I picked
- 52:56Speaker 1: the Lions. I want to ask you, I'm so stupid,
- 53:00Speaker 1: so stupid, that's true, so stupid. I mean, I ever
- 53:03Speaker 1: picked Jared Goff again. He can win five straight MVPs
- 53:06Speaker 1: and I'll pick against him every week. I admit that
- 53:08Speaker 1: I thought it was going to be a closer. I
- 53:10Speaker 1: picked the Patriots to win. I didn't really think there
- 53:12Speaker 1: was much doubt that they would win. Yes, that's true.
- 53:15Speaker 1: I am I am five and oh I was four
- 53:18Speaker 1: and o um until I fell on my face. Yeah,
- 53:20Speaker 1: your guy, Fitzy post game, you know, I felt good
- 53:23Speaker 1: about this game. I picked the Patriots I said, yeah,
- 53:25Speaker 1: for the four hundred and seventy ninth straight week. You don't.
- 53:29Speaker 1: It's like when we do all access and Mike and
- 53:30Speaker 1: I do it and then you know we're cutting and
- 53:32Speaker 1: Steve Burton goes, I think you guys are right. I
- 53:34Speaker 1: think they're gonna win two. Even Mike makes fun of
- 53:37Speaker 1: moments so funny. Uh so, yeah, what what else we got?
- 53:41Speaker 1: The defense? Jack Jones future number one corner by the
- 53:45Speaker 1: number one has he has he replaced Jason H j C.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Jackson for you. Well, you know what annoys me with
- 53:52Speaker 1: that is everybody says like Bill was so smart letting
- 53:55Speaker 1: j C go. Look, he sucks in LA. Well, he
- 53:57Speaker 1: didn't suck here. So if you had resigned him, I'm
- 53:59Speaker 1: an assume you would have coached him well and he
- 54:01Speaker 1: would have still been good. I would now you have
- 54:03Speaker 1: two number one corners and I'd say, wow, I would
- 54:06Speaker 1: go with the Bill knew he was gonna have to
- 54:07Speaker 1: have ankle surgery right right before the season started. Chess
- 54:11Speaker 1: check now thought that's what they put the extra bone
- 54:14Speaker 1: in his ankle before he left. So don't rule it
- 54:16Speaker 1: out there. Don't rule it out like if you wanted
- 54:18Speaker 1: to give Bill superpowers, that's the superpower out. He knew
- 54:21Speaker 1: he was gonna get hurt and be unavailable. But no,
- 54:24Speaker 1: I do like Jack Jones, and I think Jack Jones
- 54:26Speaker 1: because one of the comments not as much as Jack
- 54:28Speaker 1: Jones likes Jack and that's part of what I like
- 54:29Speaker 1: about Jack Jones. And I like that mccordy likes that
- 54:32Speaker 1: about Jack Jones. When I asked him about that comment
- 54:34Speaker 1: last week, and he smirked and he said, now now
- 54:37Speaker 1: he just can't allow any outs. That was funny. What
- 54:41Speaker 1: do you think about this take that I had? Um take?
- 54:45Speaker 1: You know, because they developed the Patriots offense has had
- 54:48Speaker 1: to deal with, you know, not having Mac third string
- 54:50Speaker 1: rookie quarterback, you know, having to adjust and get back
- 54:54Speaker 1: to fundamentals and all that Mac will come back to
- 54:57Speaker 1: a better offense than he left. Um, I don't. I'm
- 55:03Speaker 1: not sure. Well, the one area I might say yes
- 55:06Speaker 1: is the offensive line. They've gotten engaged the last couple
- 55:09Speaker 1: of years. When was the last time Trent Brown flexed
- 55:12Speaker 1: over piles like he and we were talking about he
- 55:14Speaker 1: wasn't engaged. And I know people are thrown out theories
- 55:16Speaker 1: like did Scar give him a call? Because everybody thinks
- 55:19Speaker 1: talking to whatever chess. But I do think the offensive line,
- 55:24Speaker 1: aside from Isaiah Wynn, which I gotta think, there's a
- 55:27Speaker 1: chance Marcus Cannon is soon unseating him at the right
- 55:29Speaker 1: tackle spot. You know who else thinks that too, Kendrick Bourn,
- 55:33Speaker 1: because he's like, oh no, we put Cannon in at
- 55:34Speaker 1: right tackle, right, So I'm on the line here. When
- 55:36Speaker 1: he got into his fight with Bill about covering up
- 55:38Speaker 1: Marcus Cannon, he thought he was the right tackle. He
- 55:39Speaker 1: just assumed that he had replaced Win. Marcus Cannon also
- 55:42Speaker 1: like randomly led the Patriots in like all grades on
- 55:45Speaker 1: offense on PFF this week, which they go see. But yeah,
- 55:50Speaker 1: I think the offensive line is something you can build on.
- 55:53Speaker 1: Other than that, no, I don't really buy that. I mean,
- 55:55Speaker 1: you got Taekwon Thornton back, that's how replace Agilar with him.
- 55:59Speaker 1: Do you think Aglar will be inactive with a hamstring
- 56:02Speaker 1: injury this week, regardless of whether he actually he definitely
- 56:05Speaker 1: was dealing with something. But I don't think that's the
- 56:06Speaker 1: only reason why seven everywhere. Yeah, I think he's toasts
- 56:11Speaker 1: and the only reason why he only played seven and
- 56:13Speaker 1: now you can have him inactive without these guys on
- 56:15Speaker 1: the pregame saying, oh wow, Aglar ten million dollars healthy scratch, No,
- 56:20Speaker 1: he's he's inactive with a hamstring, right right, right, that's
- 56:23Speaker 1: what you'll say. You have to say that says hamstring
- 56:25Speaker 1: next to him. We'll see. I don't I know how.
- 56:26Speaker 1: I don't know how that works. I don't like to
- 56:31Speaker 1: commit um, but the rest of the offense, I don't know.
- 56:35Speaker 1: I mean, it was good to get Hunter Henry involved
- 56:38Speaker 1: last week the first past kind of get him, but
- 56:40Speaker 1: there's still like playing playing without without a net at
- 56:44Speaker 1: running back. I was just gonna say, I feel a
- 56:46Speaker 1: lot better Harris, Damien Harris. Although the one thing I
- 56:49Speaker 1: like here is I think you're going to see the
- 56:51Speaker 1: ascension like this is a star in the making in
- 56:53Speaker 1: my opinion. Stevenson, Yeah, I think Romandre is I've evolved
- 56:58Speaker 1: from I used to compare him to Levy on Bell.
- 57:00Speaker 1: Now I'm calling him a poor man, say Quon Barkley.
- 57:02Speaker 1: So you can tell that I really enjoy What do
- 57:04Speaker 1: you think they do? Behind? John Smith takes from last summer?
- 57:07Speaker 1: What do you think? We're all wrong? Once in a while,
- 57:09Speaker 1: you know who was wronger than me? Bill Belichick and
- 57:11Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels, who paid him and then he spent the
- 57:13Speaker 1: whole summer giving him the ball. But, like I said
- 57:18Speaker 1: all the time, once in a while too, I nail
- 57:20Speaker 1: the hell out of most. What do you think they
- 57:22Speaker 1: do behind Ramandre without without Harris? Uh, it's a great question.
- 57:26Speaker 1: Like I don't want to see any of them. I mean,
- 57:29Speaker 1: I mean, do we see any do we see anything
- 57:31Speaker 1: out of peer strong stakes? I haven't seen anything. I've
- 57:34Speaker 1: seen nothing. See. This is what he like. It's a tonality,
- 57:37Speaker 1: I know it is. I have to counter Mike Reese
- 57:39Speaker 1: telling me he's the next James White before camp even
- 57:42Speaker 1: starts with that whole thing about his coach told I
- 57:45Speaker 1: didn't you don't have to say steaks. I don't know him.
- 57:47Speaker 1: I didn't see him, not much. But but I don't
- 57:49Speaker 1: know what any statch. But I didn't. I don't anything
- 57:51Speaker 1: ball I didn't see. I didn't see enough face to
- 57:54Speaker 1: know he staks. No, I know, that's like my point
- 57:57Speaker 1: he was. I thought from the fumble, I was intrigued
- 58:01Speaker 1: by Kevin Harris as a big runner, and that's what
- 58:03Speaker 1: you're probably looking for, EDDIEI do they pay you based
- 58:06Speaker 1: on the number of takes that you have now, I've
- 58:09Speaker 1: always been the same. I've always been hyvan pop off.
- 58:13Speaker 1: You used to have to deal with it. Now somebody
- 58:14Speaker 1: else has to deal with it all right, Right now,
- 58:16Speaker 1: Paul and I have to deal with our life. What

- 1:07:44Speaker 1: a David Gibbons type, isn't he? Yeah? I have no
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: interest in David Gibbons right now? Okay, all right, yeah,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: right now? They need a number one receiver. David Gibbins
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: isn't there, And I don't think Robbie Anderson is either. No. No,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: But that's why I'm not interested. He's STI gonna get
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: number one money. Of course he is. You think that's
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: what he makes Why do you think he's on the block. Okay,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: so you guys want to hear about thanks, please do
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: because I have the prolific career. There was one reasonably
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: good game. There was one reasonably the game where he

- 1:09:05Speaker 1: All right, we're back and Evan is back from practice.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: Has done all right? Evan, the spotlight's on you. Perfect
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: attendance on the fifty three man roster for the Patriots
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: on Wednesday. Running Back Damien Harris was out there, but
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: very very limited. I'd say it was similar to what
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: we saw with Jacobe or Mac or Kyle Dugger, where
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: he's there for attendance, but once injury report comes out
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: at four o'clock, I would expect him to be a
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: DNB okay, And of course everyone wants to know what
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: did Mac look like? I thought he was moving around
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: a little bit better. Today We got an extended look
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: at Mac Jones throwing passes both to the coaching staff
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: and then to actual receivers, not against air, obviously not
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: actually a team drill, but we got a pretty long
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: look at Mac Jones today and I thought he was
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: moving around a little bit better, seemed a little bit
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: more I don't know, more pep in his step, I
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: guess as a way to put it. But based off
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: of what we saw out there, it still feels like
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: and seems like Bailey Zappy is preparing to be the
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: starter on Sunday at least today. And I think that
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: was what Belichick said this morning where he said, you know,
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: you gotta get out there at practice today, see what
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: everybody looks like and go from there. So that could change.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: But based off of the way that drills were being
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: running stuff like that, it looks like Zappy is still
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: QB one for now. Yeah, I mean, unless I know
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: for sure that Mac can start today, I have to
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: go all in on Zappy because I want to prepare
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: him for the game. I don't want to be splitting
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: snaps and oh, let's see how he looks Thursday. Well,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: we'll see how Mac looks Friday. No, we got to
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: prepare for the game. So you make your decision today
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: who your starter is, and it's gotta be Zappy. You know.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Do you think they're like look at him throughout the weekend?
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: I mean, is there somebody here trainer like evaluating Mac.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure Mac was here like the whole
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: time last weekend or yeah, oh yeah, I would imagine. Yeah,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: it's not like he just kind of goes off and yeah,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: they didn't really get a look at him for a
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: few days. I would imagine. I assume he's doing every
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: said it was a nice day out there today, Yeah,
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: really nice day out Almost felt like a early summer
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: day or one of those fall days. At Lingers. I
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: would imagine that affected the mood. The mood was great, yeah,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: and they, like I said, day let us see the
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: quarterbacks throw for a solid five or six minutes. And
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: we got to just stand there and watch Mac move around.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Take video of him throwing, which I'm sure is all
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: over social media and every other post is like a
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: video from a mile away of Matt Jones, and he
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: looks better. I'm not saying we were that close. He
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: was standing on about the fifty yard line, and we
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: were at in the end zone, you know, at the
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: at the back of the ends sixty yards, so we
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: were like sixty yards away from him. But you can
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: at least see how his moving around. And I one
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: little thing that I did notice was he had his
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: knee brace on. And he wears a knee brace, that's
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: a routine thing for him. But if he's not going
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: to participate in practice at all once the drills actually
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: truly begin, that why have the knee brace on? Right,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: The knee brace is sort of a contact thing, not
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: necessarily trying to keep his knee protected when he's just
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: throwing drills. So I don't know if he always wears it.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: I'll have to take a note. That is interesting, but
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: correct me. He was limited last week, right, correct, It
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: was the week before that he was DMP every day, correct. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: but so I think if he's doing anything that makes
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: a little sense. But yeah, you probably can expect him.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: Oh what do we got? Mike has a bad looking
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: looking at Mark Daniels. You know, he does his found
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: footage to his binocular so it's super shaky. But the
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: flappy thing, it's just that's bugging the hell out of
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: me already. I'm glad that that's another thing though. That
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: just reminded me. Did you not have that last week?
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: He had it on today? Yeah, and he was looking
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: at it a lot and not playing with the flap,
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: just looking at the play. So no, I think that's
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: interesting that he's doing more quarterback he things. Yeah, you know,
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: if he's got the brace on and he's got the
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: the flappy thing that Mike hates so much. Yeah, well,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: I mean we're not gonna be you know, obviously we're
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: not there when they really start doing the team drills today.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: But if he's starting, then he's got to be starting
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: today in my opinion. You know, I don't think I mean,
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: I get your point, and I think it's a it's valid.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: I don't think that that's the be all end all.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: I think if they feel like he's going to progress
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: to be ready, then I think he doesn't need the
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: prep time that Zappy does. I think you can get
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: Zappy ready and be comfortable. Like to me, it's a
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: it's a health thing. If they think he's healthy enough
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: to go. He knows what he's doing. Yeah, especially today's
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: usually like early down day, so this is like and
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: you hand it off and you hand it off and
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: you know so, but if he's getting better third down,
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: red zone tomorrow. This is the actual footage from today
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: right here. It's so obviously they're talking about that too,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: because they're really zeroing in on the brace here and
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: the sports ub footage his whole leg. I can't see,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: are they. So they're in shelves today, Yeah, and then
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: uppers with probably knee braces and stuff like that. That's
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: what they've been doing a lot in the season as
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: they got the shoulder pads on and the you know
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: below the waist is like the like knee sleeves or
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: braces that they use, but not you know, full on
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: like pads Okay, Oh you know, so Mac is back,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: says Beetle. Well, we'll see. Um, he certainly looks better
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: than he did last week. Well, and the last week
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: he looked better now, like wouldn't that. I mean, I'm
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: not making fun of anybody, like, but like that to
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: me is a given. Like he's gonna progress, right, I
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: mean it's it's now going to be you know, four weeks,
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: you know, since the since the like he's going to
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: get progressively better. Yeah. The question is he getting to
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: the point where you think he's moving well enough to play? Yeah?
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: And that you know, I think we're all sort of wondering. Ye,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: But I don't think anybody has the answer to that question.
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: I just think that last thirty percent is hard to discern,
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: Like you could tell last week when it's like he
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: ain't even close. I mean, he looks like he's at
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: best fifty fifty maybe less so. And at that last
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: thirty percent, how do they I don't think the reporters
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: are gonna be able to tell. You know, it's like
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: all of a sudden and you're not going to see
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: him starting. Yeah, like run run, like I'm running to
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: try to get away from Miles Miles. Garrett Evan, I
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: think you did a very good job this week differentiating
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: how the offense looked with Zappy compared to when mac
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: m One thing in your studies this week that I
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: wanted to ask you was about Thornton Taekwon Thornton. Yes,
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: in my opinion, there were two or three plays where
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: I thought Thornton got off the line well and Zappy
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: chose not to go to him. One he got a
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: twenty three yard pass to h Meyer, so it's it's
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: no big deal. But I thought on that particular play
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: the if he had he seen Thornton, it might have
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: been a home run. Did you see that as well? Yeah,
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: So that was one of the two plays that I
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: highlighted in the post with Taekwon, the one you're talking about.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: He was in the cover two hole right the underneath
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: corner presses him at the line of scrimmage. Then he
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: clears it and he gets up the sideline into that
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: cover two hole and not to make it mag Vers
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: Zappy or whatever, but look, I think that a more
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: aggressive minded quarterback probably puts that on Taekwon's back shoulder
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: away from the safety coming over the top in the
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: half field. And puts it on the sideline for him
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: and they have a big play there. And I thought
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: earlier on in the game the two plays that everybody
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: keeps highlighting was Zappi or those like scramble second reaction
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: type of plays. He had one earlier to Myers too,
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: and where he misses a downfield throw to Hunter Henry
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: that I broke down in that post. So those downfield
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: opportunities were there at times with Taykwon. The other one
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: was I think he was more clearing out coverage than
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: actually the number one option on the play, but he'd
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: get by his defender pretty easily. And still even if
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: you're clearing out coverage when you're you know, two or
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: three yards behind the defense, that's still an opportunity there
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: for the quarterback to throw a deep if he feels
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: like he has you opened down the field. So that
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: one Zappy opened the other direction, he had his back
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: to the Thornton read he opened to the right side
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: instead of the left, so he didn't see it. I
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: think there were some instances certainly where Taekwon was opened
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: down the field. I think the one thing that maybe
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: stood out to me a little bit, it was a
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: little bit too much wasted time at the line of
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: scrimmage sometimes, Like I think he's trying to throw too
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: many fakes in his release moves, where when you're a
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: four two eight guy, just just get up the field right,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: make a move and go, because you got to get
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: your strides open and get that speed going. Some of
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: the times I thought he lingered a little bit too
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: long at the line of scrimmage and his route took
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: a little bit too long to get going, which might
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: have moved Zappy onto something else because of that. Yeah, alright,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: something he missed Myers too, Because that one I think
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: we saw that during the game on the far end zone.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: I'm talking about Myers kind of busting actually, yeah, so
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: that one was I also put that in there. And
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: that one I think he just came off of Myers
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: a little bit too quickly and they ended up dropping
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: a defender off the line of scrimmage and into a
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: robber zone. And that Myers was running into the robber.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: But the robber is really looking in the middle of
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: the field, right, He's not focused on the routes outside
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: the numbers. So Myers is crossing on that deep over
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: route and although he has to go through the robber zone.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: It's not really like the robber is going to be
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: able to turn his back and make a play on
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: the football in that situation. So if he just lays
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: that ball out for Myers in the front of the
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: end zone at six, and that's one of those ones
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: that it was a kind of a disguised coverage that
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: I think he just moved off of and went to
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: Hunter Henry. But ideally once he sees that on tape,
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: he comes back to it maybe next week and is
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: able to see that love it in there. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: So that was just something I just wanted to get
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: your opinion on. Was Thornton And you know, I think
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: only had a couple of catches and they were for
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: short yards, but I love seeing them out there. And
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: do you believe that it makes it easier to sit
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: Agalore this week now that he's here. Yeah, Look, I
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: think Thornton is here to replace Nelson agal Or, whether
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: it's now or next year, right, I mean, Nelson aglor
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: is in a contract year. You need that speed receiver
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: in your offense, and Thornton was drafted to hopefully not
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: have to pay Nelson Aglare again. Pay somebody like Nelson again,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: So that's the idea. And I definitely thought when you
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: watch him, especially against man coverage, that suddenness and burst
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: is a factor, Like it's difficult to cover him for
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: defensive backs. And you could see the Lions defensive backs.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: You know, he created some separation. He didn't always get
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: the ball, but there are some moments of separation there
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: for sure. And then who do you think they get what?
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: When you asked him, you said, we are there two
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: or three times that they got open? Which I would
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: have agreed, Yeah, okay, I would have agreed there were
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: two times, so they got open. Okay. I would also
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: agree with the other thing that Evan said about him
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: wasting some time with the honor scrimmage. A matter of fact,
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: he and I talked about that a little bit. Yeah
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: during the game, Okay, that's all. Who do you think
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: I always change it? Who's the running back that's number
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: two behind Stevenson for this game? It's a good question.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: I think it's tough because it depends on what is
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: the role that they want that running back to play.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: If he's going to be an early down back and
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: they're just gonna spell Stevenson for five to ten carries
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: on first down. Then I actually think it might be
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: JJ Taylor getting the call up from the practice squad
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: because we've seen him, although it hasn't been a long
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: time in a regular season game, we've seen him be
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: able to just run the ball in an NFL game
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: between the tackles, and that's what they really need. I
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: would highly doubt if it's Strong, if it's Harris, whoever, Taylor,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: that they would put them on the field on third
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: down because now you have Blitz pick up responsibilities, you
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: have to run routes like that's gonna be Stevenson, that's
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: gonna be his role, which as it should be. So
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: really what they're looking for as a guy to come
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: in and give them like eight carries on first down.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: And I think if I had to pick somebody right now,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: I'd probably lean towards JJ Taylor. Okay, I think that's
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: what it will be too. That's what we talked about yesterday.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: I just what do you think of Kevin Harris in
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: that kind of a role. Yeah, I mean I think
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: ideally that's the role that he's going to play. Right
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: you know that he is a first and second down
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: Patriot back. A power guy can run between the tackles,
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: you know, Strong, especially if you start to get him
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: going and you let the blocking sort of do the
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: work and get him up to a top speed. He
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: probably has been a pretty difficult guy to tackle in
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: the open field going back to college. You know, he's
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: some highlights in college where he's carrying guys, pushing the pile,
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: things like that. So I was a little wary of
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: his ball security. The fumbles killed him. There's no question
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: that's why he's on the practice way. Yeah, so I'm
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: not sure if they're ready for either rookie running back.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: Quite frankly, I think Peter Strong will be active, but
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: I don't know if he's ready to take on an
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: actual role. I don't know. It's kind of disappointing. I mean,
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: he drafted these two guys for a situation like this.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: I mean Brandon Boldham left. You know, It's just you'd
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: love to see one of these guys that they drafted
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: step up and maybe give you something to think about
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: when Harris potentially leaves next years a free Yeah, I
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: would like it to be pre strong in this game.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: I agree with Evan's assessment, but I would like it
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: to be. If it's gonna be five to six seven,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: why not. Yeah, see, you know he's got some speed.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: Get them out there, give me a chance. And then
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: and then we're doing the whole zappy dance with Damian Harris,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: like we're doing the whole like Pierre Strong right days
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: is greener. It is interesting though, too, because this offense
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: now without a fullback. Like before, when they had the
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: full back and he had to put a young running
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: back out there, it's like just run behind James Death.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: But it's really not much thinking on the running backs part.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: But now that they've gone away from the full back,
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: there's a lot more reading the line of scrimmage for
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: the running back. You know, they're running in side zone,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: outside zone, things like that, and they're trying to get
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: them to read those cutback lanes. That's a lot different
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: than just saying, okay, we're gonna run, you know, lead
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: with James Devlin or Jacob Johnson and you're just going
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: to follow him through the hole. You know, that's simple offense.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: This is a little bit more advanced between the airs
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: for backs and yeah, it's just like three James Devlin
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: references here on the show todays. I think, yeah, five
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: past five hundred is the ace taking a hut line.
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: U phones are stacked up, so let's get them unstacked.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: Todd's in North Carolina. What's up, Todd? Hey, guys, With
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: respect to your video telecast, one of the big things
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: is body language is like forty five percent of communication.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: And you guys have such great body language. Your facial
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: expression spread or legendary. And to watch Deuce's little smile
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: when he when he you know he's going to get
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: a point and he's gonna get Paul because he doesn't
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: get ball off, but he does get that smile that
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: one time. Okay, so there's there's a there's a check
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: check mark in the video column. Oh you guys anti
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: video love the video video too. Yeah, but we just
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: want to like, is the value there to have like
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: a producer and you know somebody, you know, all the
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: production that's required versus just doing audio. You think it's
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: why because the clips that we pull, like yeah, Alex
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: is talking about of you and Paul bickering back and
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: forth on the But I don't want that stuff goes viral, right,
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: Like that's the stuff that people craft towards listeners and
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: then you get a new listeners and the Facebook, Live, Twitter, Instagram,
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: like we can tap into that audio, can farm the comments. Yeah,
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: because everything's video these days. Everything. Yeah, all right, quick
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: question for you guys, YEP, is this, how much more
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: do you trust Bailey's happy to be able to take
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: with respect progressing in the passing game? Like how much
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: more complication are you willing to see added to him?
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: Do you think that he can handle? Because I think
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: it's going to be necessary for this game, because I
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: really think that Cleveland's going to sell out to stop
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: the run, and if we don't have some answers, it
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: could be problematic. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think that. You know,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: from last week to this week, he's become that much
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: better passing the ball, you know, So like I don't
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: want to add too much more to you know, now,
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: if he's got to throw the ball more than you know,
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: twenty twenty five times, I think you know that's that's
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: it's not unfolding favorably right to the Patriots. Yeah, So,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: in regard to the quarterback situation, our buddy Mike Giardi
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: tweeted recently seven minutes ago, quick Mac Jones update perse sources.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: Of course, if the Patriots second year quarterback were to
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: play this weekend, he'd be dealing with some instability in
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: that angle, but depending on how it progresses this week,
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: it could be managed in a variety of ways. The swelling,
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: I'm told has decreased, So a lot of kods and
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: maybe's and who knows, but just you know, another another
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: layer certainly sounds like as expected with the passing weeks,
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: he's getting better and closer to return. I would hope.
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: So no, so no setbacks, I guess is you know,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: is good news? Like a shot situation kind of things
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: that wouldn't I would have the variety of ways I
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: would think, just tore it all. Yeah, yeah, that's one
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: of them. Yeah. Do they give him that for practice too,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: or is that just a game only type situation? As games? Yeah,
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: that's a big needle if you're doing it that often. Well,
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: I don't know about every want to win. Yeah, I
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: don't know about every practice, but I do wonder if
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: that's something that you don't want a guy going blind
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: with like he needs to. He's going to step into
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: a game, your game and give him. Oh, I didn't
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: know what was going to feel like that. You know,
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: it's a bill game, and what evident? You can't feel
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: a thing? Yeah, and that's how sometimes getting Yeah, that's
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: how the injuries get exacerbated. Yeah, Um, Alex is a
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: fall river. Hey Alex, not you, Alex, you're here, You're
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: a gone all right? Or Williams and philam what's up? William?
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: What's going on? Then? How are you doing? Good? A
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: two questions and I get back to work. When do
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: you think you'll see? No? Fine, you get to see
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: the death four two weeks? Well say sorry, Yeah, he
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: did play Sunday. Yeah, I mean he's he's I mean,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: I know he plays Sunday. Yeah, but I think we didn't,
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Yeah, I try to get
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: that all twenty two? Yeah, I mean this is where
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: I gotta go with Evan's side here strange bedfellows. Yeah,
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: I mean, I mean if you if you rewatch the game,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: you just focus on him. You saw some of that speed.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: But I get what you're saying. When are we gonna
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: like use it? I think when Mats back. I mean, yeah,
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: the way they've been pushing the ball down the field
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: with Mac, I would be very surprised if he you know,
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: when Matt comes back, if they were on some shots
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: to takewon, Yeah, and I won't. I won't even be surprised.
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: You know. Listen, like Paul said, zap be throw the
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: ball downfield last week? You know at least three times,
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: two of them were penalties. You know. Positive. Um, I'm
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: I'm here to tell you I guarantee one shot play
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: to Thornton. This at least one. I like it this week.
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: But they threw the ball down the field in a
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: much different way than Mac was throwing the ball down
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah, but I was not talking about downfield. I
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: was talking about fifty fifty balls, right, Yeah. I heard
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: so many people say, see how much better the offense looks.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: How many fifty fifty balls did you see? I said, well,
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: three that I can think off the top of my head. Yeah.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: So look, I have what I'm gonna call the zappy offense.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: Is the training wheel offense, right, that's the training wheels offense.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: We got forty percent play action, We have no tight
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: window throws, and we are managing the game in every
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: single direction to make sure that there's not too much
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: on the quarterback. And what I rode and I kind
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: of put that side by side stack comparison on purpose,
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: is because what they were asking Mac to do was
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: so much significantly more than what they were asking Zappy
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: to do, and the numbers bear it out. And they
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: were basically just creating every single open window throw they
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: could possibly think of with Bailey Zappy. And if you're
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: gonna do that, then you're not going to get the
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: downfield throws. You're not going to have those players even
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: with scheme where they're going to be pushing the ball
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: down the field because ultimately those players are not going
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: to be wide open often in the NFL. Yeah, just
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: one more question and then and now I'm not jelling,
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: so I'm all in on man. And my opinion is
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: just basically, I wouldn't bring him ba until after the
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: Beers game. I mean, I'm not going to, I wouldn't
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: whisky from them. I just don't want him to reinjue
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: legal anything for that man, you know what I mean.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: So yeah, that's just my thing. Okay, y'all take care,
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: all right? Thanks? Yeah, I think I bring him back
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: when he's ready, you know. Yeah, it's simple to Yeah, Unfortunately,
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: it's boring because we don't know when that's gonna be. Yeah,
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: but if he's healthy, I don't wait. I don't wait
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: an extra game work to be done. Get him back.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: We need more reps, we need to start, you know,
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: getting this thing online with their number one, you know,
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: and then I'm pretty stubborn, but I'm not stupid. If
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: he comes back and he's healthy, and he's continuing to
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: throw the ball all over the place and you know,
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: basically average an interception to game, which he's done, I
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: think he has twenty picks in twenty one games. If
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: he continues to do that and the other kids not
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: doing that, then you might have a conversation to have.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: But I don't think we're anywhere close to that situation.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: I think mac Jones is so far advanced. I just
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: go by the very first game when mac Jones was
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: a rookie quarterback playing in his very first game, he
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: attempted thirty nine passes. He was also sacked a few times,
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: so they attempted over forty passes in his first game.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: They didn't do that with Bailey Zappy, right, it was
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: about half that amount twenty two. Yeah, here's something development
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: Tom writes in from May with Fred calling out Hardy
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: and making a big deal about the ad read. I
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: figured I would check it out myself. It turns out
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: the era in the ad read is not that they
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: neglected to tell you to say dash, but in how
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: they spelled out their own website. Visit ma dot com
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: works but visit dash ma dot com does not. And
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: while I know it's not your fault, Fred, I can't
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: wait for the formal apology to Hardy. Well that's something, yeah,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: I mean they spell it out with the dash, so
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: they shouldn't do that if it's visit ma dot com. Right,
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: how do you know it's a dash or a dash? Right? Wa? Wa? Yeah?
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: On the keyboard there's a different button to hit. No, no, no,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: no no. The way they spell it here, it's got
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: a hyphen a dash, right, but the URL does not,
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: so they what is wrong? Oh? So it doesn't have
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: it in there at all. It doesn't have it in there.
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: It's just visit m a right, which makes more sense, right,
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: it does, easy to remember it does. But who wrote
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: this copy? Matt Morrel? You fired? I thought he was
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: saying like somehow like a hyphen is a different character
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: than a dad. No, no, no, no, it's the same
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: I got. I got confused. It's the same character thieve
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: grandpa over in the corner by himself. So this is
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: the video that Hardy. Hardy got it right without knowing
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: he got it, didn't even realize it was Yeah, he does.
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: He gets no credit for that. Upstairs. Yeah, we don't
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: have to We don't have to do that. It's just
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: friend's office. Catherine uh Nielsen Waltham writes, And I was
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: very excited to see Stevenson's great game last week. Can
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: you remember the last time Bill said he loved a
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: current player? No, Um, I don't Teddy Bruski perfect player? Man.
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: My guess is he said it like about Matthew Slater
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: about I mean, I don't know. I do think that
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: his praise. I mean, like I'm not gonna get bogged
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: down at semantics the emailer's point. The praise was different
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: for Stevenson last It was over the take. He's right. Yeah.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: Didn't he say I love KB on the Greg Hill
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: Show recently? Did he? I don't know, Yeah, I'm not.
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: That's like I said, like, I just think that the
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: way he talked about Stevenson, I told you that I
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: think I think Stevenson is the best player on his team. Yeah,
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: I think he does too. Yeah, I think that's that's
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: the way he talked about. I think he's the best
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: player period. But that's just me. The red sleeves guy
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: might have an argument there. He's playing better maybe, but
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: if he played like if he played Stevenson had games
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: like that and he had a chance to get twenty
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: five carries every game. Uh Bill's also says on Sunday,
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: the way Stevenson was able to shed tacklers reminded me
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: a bit of Lea Garrett Blunt. But he definitely seems
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: two things I never thought I would compare, But it
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: definitely seems quicker than Blunt in his cuts. Is there
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: another former Patriot that would be a better comp for Stevenson,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: I don't see that. I mean, I just think he's
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: so light on his feet for a big guy. That's
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: what makes him stand out, like Blunt was never that.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: Andy's Van Bell. Yeah, so Levian Bell. First of all,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: I don't know where Patriots fans have this idea that
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: Lagarret Blunt was some elusive runner, but this comes up
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: all the time. He wasn't that Lagarret Blunt. Was like
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: this like Larry Sanders, right, Like he had fifteen touchdowns,
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: so that meant he was good. I looked this up
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: yesterday because of course me and barth Off the Air
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: were in an argument about la Garrett Blunt and UH.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: In twenty and sixteen, which was Lagarret Bund's big season
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: with the Patriots, he had like nineteen touchdowns or something
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: like that. He averaged just over two yards after contact
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: per rush, which is below league average. Like this was
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: a bowling ball, right, You get him downhill, the line
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: opens up a hole, and once he gets going, he's
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: like a train, right that That's that's true, But this
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: was not an all would he would tippy toe behind
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: the line and get caught behind. The one thing I
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: would say about Blunt that was um a big positive
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: in his category that was sort of rare, was for
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: a guy that size, when he did get to that level,
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: he could he could be Yeah he was moving, Yeah
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: he wasn't he He was not getting caught a lot
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: um once he broke free. And for a guy that
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: bat size, I agree with though, Like in the backfield,
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: how many times you say stop dancing? Right? He was
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: you know, he needed to get three yards out and
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: all of a sudden, it's See. The thing about Remandre
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: is when he's in a tight spot, like his feet
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: aren't too close together, like he's got equal balance so
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: he can go either way. And he's very shifty in
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: small spaces. Blunt was not, but he's still big. But
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: he was. It was weird because he was fast. It
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: was fast. It doesn't have that nimble quick. But that's
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: different about quick being in a phone booth and having
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: to maneuver out of it. And it just makes Remander
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: so unique is that he hasn't I bet you Alex
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: doesn't know what a phone booth is. Okay, all right,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: that was the problem right there, too young yeah telling well,
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: you'll look you up, Thank you could company. I needed
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: to hear that. My birthday this month, birthday where I'm
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: going to start stop telling people in my remote good
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: rinking age thirty time, twenty eight took a shot twenty seven?
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: Why would why would you get why would you go
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: to twenty eight as the cutoff? When you stopped telling
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: people your age? It's a milestone birthday, Yeah it's thirty forty,
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: but then you have to say you're thirty forever. Same twenty.
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm just gonna say you twenty eight. Somebody's
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: got a big thirtieth birthday coming up on the road
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: this year. Somebody that's about to turn thirty and about
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: six weeks, I don't want to talk thirty. He's going
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: to be in Vegas though, for Arizona or Arizona. When
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: are you turn in? When are you turn in? Sixty?
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: Friend turning sixty, I'm eighty two tomorrow. I just you know,
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: look like I'm yeah. Last year, Remandre was talking. We
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: were talking to Remandre and everybody always asked young players like,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: who's the guy that you idolized growing up? Who's the
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: guy you modeled your game after? And leave On Bell
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: was his answer. So when he said that, nobody were
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: all like, well, you're two hundred and thirty pounds, what
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: do you mean. Leveon Bell is a bigger guy too,
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: but he wasn't Remandre's size, and they were like, yeah,
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: I mean, you're not really like that, Like he didn't.
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: It wasn't like, you know, like Garret Blunt. They're like
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: somebody that was a bigger running back, and I know,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: he said, Levan Bell such a weird person. Alike. I mean,
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: I know he was good, but like just the style
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: of of like, that's what of his ability to make
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: guys miss in tight quarters reminds me of Levy and Bell. Yeah,
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: that's why when Andy said that, I was like, yeah,
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: but I do see the different style though. Bell was
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: more like hand in the back of his blocker and
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: then boom. Then he would just burst either way, it
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: was a slow development. Yeah, it was just all of
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: a sudden and then boom out. But never really I mean,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: how many good years did he have? I mean problem
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: he racked up four hundred plus carries a year at
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: Michigan State. That was his problem. Yeah, Zach and Pennsylvania says.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: My opinion on why video is in such demand If
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: anyone else is like I am, It's like I like
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: to listen when I'm eating lunch. I can't speak for
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: anyone else, but when I'm eating I always like to
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: have something to stimulate me visually. That wouldn't be a
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: welcome buddy. Yeah, I'm sorry, sorry to let you down. Yeah,
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: maybe this is how other people are feeling. Love the show.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: Look forward to every segment so so far, everybody everybody
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: wants video. He was listed at two twenty five. He
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: was pretty big too. Yeah. Yeah. Just to answer Mike's question,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: though I looked up his stats, he had like that
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: five year, it was a pretty good five year with
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: the Steelers from thirteen to seventeen. He had one year
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: that he only had six games played, but he had
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: five hundred and fifty six yards in those six games.
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: But it was thirteen sixty twelve sixty thirteen hundred rookie year,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: eight sixty and eight eight seven nine touchdown, like really productive.
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: And he was always a good receiver too. Ye. Yeah,
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: that's a part of the game that I think Rmandre
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: has come along in the passing game. But eighty three
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: catches one of those bell is basically a wide receiver
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: when he was in his prime with the Steelers, and
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: he want to get he said that he was I
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: think I am a running back and a wide receiver,
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: kind of like the argument that Debo makes right Miss
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: San Francisco. I don't know if Vermandre is quite on
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: that level yet where we're talking about him. Then he
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: held out, yeah, and it fell in. Vermont said podcasts
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: are great, but personally, I feel they're most enjoyable during
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: other activities such as driving, mowing the lawn, etc. I
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: love listening to you all, but once I'm done with
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: my activities at the end of the day, I don't
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: want to just sit with earbuds in and stare creepily
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: into space. I want to grab some diet Millers, fall
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: into the recliner and stare at the TV. There's just
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: something about the additional visual stimulant. I feel many would
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: agree it works for the postgame show. You guys should
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: just do it. It's funny. I'm remembering when I was
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: like in early college, late high school, got into Howard
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: Stern back when he was on regular radio, and how
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: cool it was finding e and entertainment that they would
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: at night broadcast like the segments and like to actually
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: see what the guys look like. You have such an
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: you know, like you picture a certain way, but then
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: you finally swaying me on it. As I agree, I
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: was taken the same way, like, oh, I wonder what
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: they all really look like. I wonder what I wonder
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: how they interact and whatnot. And Jackie Martling. But it's
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: gonna change how you and I are, Paul. I mean,
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: right now, we've got already been knew we've got one
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: sitting out here and we have to care about how
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: we look anymore. Yeah. I just think the one thing
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: we need to adjust, Fred is that instead of looking
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: at me and doing the eyebrow thing when you're trying
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: to get Paul going, you gotta get they gotta get something.
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: It's gonna break the fourth wall at that moment, and
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: I'd be like, he's doing it again. It's good time. Oh,
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: I have a voiceover guy Timothy, Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: I emailed last week about Zappy looking more confident than Mac,
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: and I think I triggered Evan with the question, and
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: I do apologize for that. I think what I was
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: trying to say it's kind of what Alex Barth mentioned
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: Uncatched twenty two. I think Zappy turns the ball over
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: way less than Mac. But after watching Zappy for two
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: games now, I think that's more by design than Zappy
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: just playing better than Matt. Thank you who is that?
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: This is Tim, Tim, I'm getting through to you. I
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: think I think I don't know he's turned it over
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: twice in two games. My question is, what do you
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: guys think would need to happen for Zappy and Mac
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: to be in a true quarterback controversy, I think I
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: think Mac would have to have a setback, which would
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: allow Zappy to play five more games and he wins
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: every one of them. I think Mac would have to
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: do something. I think it's Pauls thing. I think it's
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: Matt comes back and it's an interception fest and they
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: can't win, and it just gets why I don't say
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: zero percent like to revisit Andy's thing with I don't
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: think it's likely. But I don't think it's about football either.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: If there's a change, this is because like you know,
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: every and I talked about this, like throughout the game,
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: I was talking about like triggering. I was really doing
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: my best to get under evan skin during the game.
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: Every time Zappy made a play, I kept looking at Ever,
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: I kept I kept going, Hey, you're gonna have a
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: tough week. He did say that, Like no, really, like
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: really because like you know me, like if the game
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: is close, I get into it. When I deemed the
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: game over, and you know, sometimes I'm wrong. When I
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: deemed the game the game over very early, and I
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: just basically took the rest of the game off and
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: it just tried to get ewer and it worked. I
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: got my my notebook in front of me. I'm trying
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: to chart the game start. He's charting formation. I'm trying.
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: I got tough personnel here, and let some smoke on
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: that one. See that five yard hitch she just threw.
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: My goodness, you see it come out so like the
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: cost stepped up in the pocket, got out of the
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: I can't get out of the poet like that, you know,
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: fun that I had a side. I agree with Evan
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: on mac jones ability, and by comparison to Bailey's appies,
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think it would be football though. Fred.
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: I think if if something happens to mac Jones, it's
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: like what we talked about all summer. I know, the
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: media driven narratives. They weren't real narratives, they were just
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: media driven. I think we're in the media, so I
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: guess we can talk about him. He wasn't seemingly comfortable
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: and on board with everything they were doing. He was,
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: you know, kind of hemming and horror at his press conferences.
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: They got better, I thought as Camp went on, but
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: I think he wondered, what what do we why we
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: have defensive coaches coaching offense. Like basically, long story short,
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: I'll say, if they don't really think he's on board
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: with what they want to do, when they think the
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: other kids more coachable, Yeah, I think that there could
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: be a change. If you're just judging it by cheer ability,
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: I don't think it's very close. Yeah. I think A
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: big thing too, to your point is in the summer,
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: at beginning part of the summer, we saw so much
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: outside zone, so much bootleg, all that kind of stuff,
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: and all of a sudden was gone and they get
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: them in out even week one. But you look at
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: two and three specifically, and they're shotgun, they're spread their
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: very little play action. They got a couple of inklings
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: of RPOs in there, and all of a sudden you're like, well,
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: wait a second, like this looks like Alabama. Like now
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: this is did what did Max say? Right? What did
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: what did Mac do? Because this they're building this whole thing,
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: I'm not doing it around Max, so right, and if
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: he comes out and he doesn't play well when they
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: have changed the entire offense for him, Mac refused to
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: eat his vegetables, then that does give even me a
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: Max stand some pause because we did this for you,
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: like we learned how to play like this in a
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: spread offense with RPOs with all shotgun with not a
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: lot of true natural under center play action because you
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: told us it wasn't working, and now we're doing your thing. Yeah,
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: and you're throwing two picks a game, so that Dad's
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: definitely where it would be for me. But you have
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: to give him the rope to be able to see right. Well,
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: you know how long it goes for before you start
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: to pull the plug. So wait, wait, just real quick. Yep.
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: That's if he doesn't play well doing it the way
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: that they sort of changed for him, the way Evant
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: just explained. Yea, what if they look and say, you
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: know what, we did all these changes for him and
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: he was throwing a lot of interceptions. This sort of
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: more conservative approach that we used for large stretches of
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: last year we had success with and Zappy had success
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: with it. So we're going back to that. So Mac,
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: you're not going to be throwing it down the field more.
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: You're not going to be doing this, that and the
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: other thing. You're gonna do what we were doing the
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: last couple of weeks because we haven't success with that,
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: and in turn Mac doesn't like it. Yeah, that's what
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: I'm talking about. Like, I think there would have to
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: be some sort of conflict beyond football, okay for him
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: to lose his job. But I also think it's totally
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: fair from Mac to not like it, absolutely because not
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: just about his accolades and making forty million dollars a
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: year anything like that. There's a really good Nick Saban
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: quote from around like twenty fifteen, twenty and sixteen, Alabama
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: had just lost in the National Championship Game. First world problem.
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: But Nick Saban went into the off season and hired
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: Lane Kiffen, and he said to himself, if I'm going
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: to compete in football now, we have to compete on
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: the scoreboard. We can't win games running the football and
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: playing good and famously said, you can't play great defense anymore. Right,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: And so they completely changed their offensive Alabama. They became
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: a spread system. They started recruiting wide receivers and quarterbacks
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: and now they have seventeen of them every single year.
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: You know, Bryce Down gets hurt and they just put
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: in the next guy and he's almost just as good
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: as Bryce Young. Like this is anyway, Yeah, well maybe
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: not not not in this instance, but when Matt when
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: you know two gets hurt and it's Mac or it's
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: Jalen hurts or whatever and that era. So Nick Saban
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: recognized it, and I think Mac took note of it
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: and said, you know, if we're gonna beat Buffalo, if
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: we're gonna beat Kansas City, like I'm gonna go toe
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: to toe with Josh Allen with this offense. Like it's
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: not like if you played offense the way the Patriots
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: did on Sunday against Buffalo or Kansas City, what do
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: you think of the result would have been forty two
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: to three. Yeah, because they wouldn't have been able to
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: kick all those field goals because they would have been
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: like Dan Campbell having to go for it a fort right,
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: you know. Like that's I think that's the point. And
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: that's what I'm getting at with Matt, Like clearly he's
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: I'm not saying he's entitled to anything or he's owed anything,
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: but I think that you saw a ceiling with the
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: way they played last year. I think the coaches are
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: at too. That's why they did what they did. That's
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: why they decided to try to incorporate more downfield passing
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: and different kinds of running like they're looking for bigger plays. Again.
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: I know, I sound like a broken record. The Patriots
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: were easy to defend last year. That's not my words.
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: Those awards of at least one other defender who I
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: forget who it was, but the Patriots are easy to defend.
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: You can't be that in the NFL, and playing the
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: way they did Sunday, they were easy to defend on
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: a terrible defense held him I don't know, fifteen points
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: below the season average whatever it was, twenty two, fourteen points.
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: Joe and Orlando says, not sure if it's been asked yet,
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: but what do you think Zappy can do or can
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: he do enough during his stint to secure the backup
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: spot this year? I think for sure, I think that
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: you know, and we don't know this for sure, but
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: I think Brian Hoyer is not well right now. I
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: know that I got a question in the mail back
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: this week. They put them on Iah. Where does that
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: tell you what they think about? Hoyer tells me they
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: has a pretty significant concussion. That's what it tells me. Now.
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: I get you can't have two quarterbacks that are definitely
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: not going to be on the game day roster you can't,
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: so they had to sort of make a move. I
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: don't think that that was done solely for football reasons.
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: I think it had to be done. That's just my opinion.
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: I think he had a significant concussion I saw. I
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: think it was Phil Perry. We'll see. Maybe he'll be
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: back in three weeks and I'll look dumb, but I mean,
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: I don't know. I think it was Phil that tweeted
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: they saw just Poyer around as byan. Hoyer did not
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: did head out to practice fields today in sweats, suffered
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: a concussion in Green Bay. Still not practicing. So I
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: wouldn't be I wouldn't be surprised if Poyer is the
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: backup from here on in, I would not be surprised
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: at all. I mean, Zappy, Yeah, I mean not to
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: pick on Brian Hoyer, but like he's here to basically
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: be a coach to Mac Jones and to Bailey z
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: Appy at this point too. So no offense. But if
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: he's on IR, he can still help him, right, So
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: put him on IR every year? Right? Yeah? Um, Emailer says,
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: no disrespect to your current podcast team, but when Andy
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: stops by, he intensifies the mood. But I do realize
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: that he's like Heroin to you guys. You can only
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: take him in small doses. But the thing about Andy
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: is that he he does that a lot. He'll start
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: off and then the second hours he's run out of steams,
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: like a kid who's on candy and just crashes. Well,
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: I just thought funny. Like off air, ninety percent of
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: the conversation was like about Andy butting heads with various
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: people that he had to work with in a good way,
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: in a good way, uh ding ding Barth comes, Rick's
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: broke down some Fredonia State film. Maybe, um, maybe we'll
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: get Alex just before the show. We'll get a little
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: cross over with Alex on here, but not not yet.
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: So I just want to see what they're gonna argue
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: about today. Can you guys wait ten minutes for you
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: to get my popcorn? Everything everything? Rick and Louisville writes,
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: and I'm curious to what you guys think about the
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: Patriots taking a backseat among the national media. You don't
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: hear any mention of us among the idiots with talk shows.
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: I kind of like not being on people's radars. They're
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: talking about other teams in that group of twenty two
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: that Paul was referring to earlier. I did here Colin
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: Coward the other day pick us in a shocking upset
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: over the Packers. Then a typical Colin form in his
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: next segment told told us why Belichick is taking us
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: in the wrong direction. Also, Fred, my mother has been
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: following your Game Day podcast and backs you up when
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: the haters come on the attack. Okay, you got haters
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: on that kid? Really they specifically come to hate? Oh wow?
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: Oh yeah, they come to me. Yes, some summer aimed
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: at me, um, but mostly just you know, I won't
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: stand for Oh yeah, no it, I love it, It's great.
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: I don't. I won't stand for people can't make fun
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: and some of it just a show. But like you know,
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: the thousands of comments and come in. You used to
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: see the things that don't get posted. Oh yeah, do
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: you think we ever get a Bill Belichick reads mean tweets?
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: That would be an all time segment of him reading
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: like people. And then I have to be extra careful
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: because it's not what they'll do is they'll do something
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: in ocuus in their posts, but then their screen name
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: will be Fred I after your mother or something like that.
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: So I have to like, I have to like follow
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: Fred I after your mother. It's funny. I have to
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: be really careful because you know, like it's a good
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: like I've done that, Like I've posted something and then
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: oh my god, look at his screen name. You know,
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: why did I do that? Delete? You know? But gotcha.
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: You have to be really careful, Yeah, you do. Fred.
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: Nobody in the national media talks about the Patriots because
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: Bailey Zappy is boring except for his name. But we
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: had a whole conversation I ask having Actually that's a
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: that's a good bath question too, about about if his name.
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: If his name was just Bailey Jo, it was Bailey Smith,
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: no one would be having this conversation. I'm telling you.
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: I think it's a big part of it. They love
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: the name, the puns or z. I just think people
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: love the unknown. They love the next shiny thing. You know,
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: you see it all the time, just like that. Um.
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: Someone in the Bayer on the topic of Horrier's concussion
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: and concussions in general, I just remember this. Do you
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: recall the defensive end Mike Wright, who suffered one bad
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: concussion in oh nine or ten, or ten. He's subsequently
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: retired after that. He couldn't be in a room with light. Yeah,
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: he was in. He had and I'm not saying that
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: that's where Hoyer is. And it's a great sign that
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: he's already out because I think Evan's right. That's his
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: value is to help the quarterbacks. Yeah, he was a
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: good interior Russia. He was a good, good, good little player.
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: I'm already taking a lot of shots, Pauli's you know,
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: I'm sleeping over here. No, I I'm agree with you,
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: I say, I know, but they need Brian Hoyer to
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: be don't pick on the coaches. Oh, Joe, Judge, you're
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: getting static from the coaches. No Oh, how's that? Charlie
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: writes in I have a different take on why people
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: are pro Zappy. I feel like it comes less from
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: thinking Zappy is good and more from Pete feeling some
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: trepidation about Max's potential. To my untrained eye, the offense
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: with Zappy isn't that much different than it was with
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: Mac last year. To me, assuming Zappy is a backup
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: caliber ceiling, this inspires no confidence that Mac is the guy.
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: I think we are seeing what a physically limited quarterback
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: can do in a modern offensive league, and that is
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: captain a running team to a nine and ten win
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: season and losing the playoffs, not compete with top teams.
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: That being said, the Baltimore game was pretty encouraging, just
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: seeing some zip On throws from him interceptions aside. So
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: I don't know what, like I said at the top
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: watch last year's last year's Browns game, you know, I
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: think that's that shows you the difference from what kind
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: of players are. I agree with a lot of the email,
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: except for I didn't hear any of this before he
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: got hurt. Like if there were a lot of people
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: calling and saying, I'm not sure this is the guy.
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: I think they might have to find another guy. I
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: don't think that. I think they might have to go
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: in the draft. I didn't hear very many people saying that.
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: Not telling you didn't hear any but I didn't hear
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: very many people talking like that until Zappy played. Then
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: Zappy played, and everybody's like, you know, I don't know
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: if Max's the answer. Okay, I mean, I do agree
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: that I think the offense that we saw Sunday was
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: similar to the offense that they ran on a lot
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: of games last year. I think Mac threw the ball
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: far more than Zappy did. And I said that about
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: the opening day, but I think the style of offense
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: was lean heavily on the run. If they get the lead,
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: you take your shots down the field. You know, when
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: we're in a good position and racking up some great
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: numbers in games that you win by one hundred points. Yeah,
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: if the conversation is that maybe this is giving you
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: some reluctance about Mac Jones, and that's a different conversation
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: than saying Bailey Zappy is better than Mac Jones. Yeah,
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: and that's what I thought. The guy articulated that well, right.
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: But I think the problem is is that I felt
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: like we were going to move forward this year and
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: move away from what we saw last year, or even
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: to a degree with Cam Newton as well. And I
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: think that's where my frustration comes in, is because this
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: just looks like more of the same. Like this just
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: looks like an offense Dad is bringing a pea shooter
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: to a machine gun fight when they go and play Buffalo,
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: And it's like this is not gonna work, right, Like
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: this type of offense is not going to beat the
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: good teams in the AFC or in the NFC either
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: like the whole NFL, but in the AFC in particular,
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: even in your own division, Like you're not when two
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: comes back, if he does come back, like, you're not
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: gonna beat Miami like this. You're not gonna be Buffalo
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: like this. You're not gonna be Kida's city, but like this,
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: So we will not be able to beat the Jets
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: like this. So where are we going? You know where? Where? Where?
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: You know what happened to him? That's a play. Pretty
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: good ball right now? Not really hope. Okay, all right, Um,
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: let's bring in Alex right, bring him into yeah, because
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: we have do we have his walk up song? Yeah,
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: we'll have to share a mic with somebody, Paul will
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: maybe Paul will step aside, smoke a cigarette. Um because
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: you catch Catch twenty two debuted last week, and um,
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: go ahead, Alexeye. And so we have episode number two
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: coming up right after this show. So, Alex, what do
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: you think about the show, about the team, Like, just
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: about the show. I've been being back together with with
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: your cohorts. It's awesome. I said this when we opened
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: the show last week, and frankly, I can't repeat it enough,
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: the support we got in the excitement people had when
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: we announced the show is coming back, and even still
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: I think people are sort of discovering it in the
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: week since it's come out. Has just been unbelievable. To
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: do something that uh, you know, fans of the team,
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: and I grew up a fan of the team. I
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: consider myself a fan of the team. To be working
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: on something that fans find both entertaining and informative and
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: they want it to be a part of their fanhood like,
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: it means the world to me. I can't express how
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: how awesome it's been, seeing the seeing the response. What's
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: the biggest issue of the two of you disagree about.
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: I mean, here's the thing. Football are non football because football,
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: uh college football? Yeah, I think it's I love college football.
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: I think it's a ton of fun. I also think
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: for people who are draft nerds like me and Evan are,
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: it's great to get ahead. You know, I don't know
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: how many times I tell so. Actually it's a perfect
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: example this time last year, Evan, you just gotta watch
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: one Western Kentucky game. There's his kid, Bailey Zappy sling
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: the ball all over the yard, he's putting. He looks
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: like did this conversation happen or not? He looks like
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: a Patriots quarterback. You've got to check this can out
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: the year before Evan, just watch Alabama Mac Jones. Just
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: watch what they happen. Those conversations happen. So I love
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: college football. He has no interest in it until February,
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: but it's so much. This weekend especially is gonna be great.
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: You know, Alabama Tennessee. There's probably at least one future
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: Patriot playing in that game. Um so that would probably
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: be it. Okay, because he's patting himself on the back
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: so much. I'm gonna just say this, the reason why
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: I don't get into college football in the fall is
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: because I have what's called a girlfriend and ball shot Saturday,
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: I spend it with Jess. There you go. I'm going
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: to truly enjoy my Saturday this week. And I thought
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: you said we weren't doing we weren't doing persont okay.
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: And then final question for Alex's podcast video or no video.
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: I think the people want video. I'll defer to the people.
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: I think the people like videos. Okay, we were very
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: big on YouTube before this because of my old employer.
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: So a lot of people on YouTube still looking for us.
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: If we have they're finding us slowly, but yeah, well
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: we're working on it all right. All right, So that'll
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: be it for Patriots Unfiltered. Thanks for listening. We'll be
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: back tomorrow. Stay tuned. What's that? Oh the last read?
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: I gotta do a read. Stay tuned for Catch twenty two.
