- 0:43SPEAKER_00: I hated speaking in front of groups, even really small ones.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: All those people that appear more confident than you have been exactly where you are now at some point in their lives.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: You can become very confident, as confident as the most confident person you know.

- 1:03SPEAKER_00: To help you with how to boost your self-confidence at work, I'm sharing firstly five short-term tips and techniques to boost your confidence at work, and secondly, how to get to success to boost your confidence at work is a process.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: A lot of the short-term tips are mental changes of perspective or mental exercises which you can put into practice immediately and start to feel more confident within days.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Others are longer term or will take at least some work.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Here are the five short-term tips and techniques to boost your confidence at work.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Firstly, be really clear on what you have control over and what you don't have control over and judge your progress on what you can control.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: For example, you absolutely have control over how you hold yourself.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Stand up straight and tall and to look confident.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: You mostly have control over speaking up in meetings.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: You don't have so much control over what tasks you are assigned by your boss.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Always focus on measuring or improving self-confidence in the areas you can control and do your best not to judge yourself in areas you can't control.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Secondly, focus on the positives to boost your self-confidence at work.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Yet our brains are designed to be brilliant filters.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: We have so much stimulus from our environment that our brain has to filter out most of it so our brain can actually function properly.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: You can control what it filters.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Research has proven that if you look for the good things, the positives, your brain will filter out more of the negatives, and vice versa.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: It is easy to get trapped in a doom loop if you focus on the negatives.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Keep asking yourself positive questions like you know, what did I do well?
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: What went well?
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: What was successful?
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Keep yourself focused on the positives and you'll find more positives.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: A great way of building self-confidence.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Thirdly, mentally picture your success to boost your self-confidence.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Picture yourself speaking to a small group with a clear, confident voice.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Picture them laughing at your joke, of them nodding and being attentive throughout, hanging off your words.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Imagine your emotions and physical feelings in your body.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Your nerves are there, but they are no big deal.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Don't imagine this once, do it over and over again.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: When you are actually speaking to a small group, it is just one more visualization exercise, no big deal.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Athletes, speakers, and all those that need to perform under pressure, use this technique a lot.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: It works brilliantly.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Fourth, don't keep comparing yourself to those around you that appear more confident.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Instead, compare yourself to where you were a week ago or a month ago.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Look for the improvements, small and large.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Congratulate yourself on your progress.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Remain determined to continue doing what is working to gain even better progress.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: This mental approach is a real confidence booster.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Use it often.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Fifth, to boost your self-confidence at work, dress well.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Take care of how you present yourself and aim to look similar to those at least a level above you.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: For instance, dress and present yourself like the well-dressed manager level above you.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Feeling good about how you look helps boost your self-confidence.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: You can also work on how you hold yourself, i.e.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: stand tall.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: You can work on how you use your voice.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: You're clear, confident, with good pace and pitch and volume.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: The more confident you appear, the more confident people around you will be in you.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Do use the fake it until you make it approach.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Most of these actions and mental exercises you can put into practice straight away.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: It does take some work to keep doing these exercises.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Don't give up.

- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Next, let's cover the best way I know to become more confident.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: How to achieve success to boost your confidence at work is a process.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Being successful is one of the best ways to build self-confidence that I know.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Becoming successful does take work, the right mindset, perseverance and determination.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Start small with what you want to become successful in.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: You can start anywhere, for example, setting yourself the goal to contribute one idea or suggestion in each team meeting.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: You could then ask your boss about the agenda for the next meeting.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: You could think about a problem that you or a colleague has, come up with a practical idea to make that problem smaller or remove it.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Then share the problem and solution in the team meeting.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: The praise and appreciation you get will be a great confidence boost.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Then keep doing these steps, and soon it will not be long before you're sharing more than one idea or suggestion across a number of different meetings.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Start with cultivating a growth mindset or learning mindset.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: A growth mindset is a way of thinking, a mental discipline, a habit and a reflex to recognise and find opportunities for learning from every situation, from success and from failure.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: People with a learning mindset believe, at the core of their being, that when they work to learn and improve, they will keep getting better.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Research has shown that people who cultivate a growth mindset are more successful.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: With more success, you'll boost your self-confidence.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: When you start learning anything, you will experience failures and setbacks.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: This is totally normal and part of the learning process.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: To get good at anything, you have to pick yourself up and try again.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Do this again and again, and providing your learning throughout, you will get good.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Success creates self-confidence.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Those that stop when they fail don't become as successful or as confident.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Learn to respond to failures and setbacks by trying again.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Third, set yourself goals and work towards specific achievements.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Don't set goals that are too far ahead.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: It is much better to regularly reach goals and then reset them rather than having a big goal that takes ages to reach.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: It is much more motivational to regularly reach goals and milestones.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Yet I am much more motivated looking back on all the goals I've achieved rather than constantly thinking about a big goal that I haven't reached yet.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: I'm sure you will be too.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Fourth, the most important part of being successful and building your confidence, turn thoughts into action.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Without taking action, you won't get further along towards being successful and building your self-confidence.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: Take action.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Finally, do make the time to list out all the things that you've achieved at work, you know, small to large.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: Literally write them down in a notebook and then make the time to look back over them each week or month.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Doing this is really inspirational and certainly gives you a lot of self-confidence.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Writing down your achievements is also super useful when it comes to preparing for annual assessments or writing your CVT.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: I hope you put these tips into action and boost your self-confidence at work.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Being self-confident is brilliant for reaching more of your potential.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Do put in the work to become self-confident at work, you'll never regret the time spent.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: So, in summary, boosting your self-confidence at work will help increase your contribution to your team, plus help make you happier at work, and as a result, you'll be more successful.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Being more successful will help further boost your self-confidence at work.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Keep working at becoming more self-confident.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: As a reminder, here are five short-term actions for how to boost your self-confidence at work.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: Firstly, focus on what you have control over, not what you don't have control over.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Secondly, look for and focus on the positives.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: Third, mentally picture yourself being successful again and again.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Fourth, focus on your progress and don't compare yourself to others.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Fifth, dress well and hold yourself tall and confident.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Fake it until you make it.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: And here are five steps to become successful in most activities, which is a brilliant way to improve your confidence at work.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Firstly, cultivate a growth mindset.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Secondly, respond to failures and setbacks by trying again.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Third, set yourself goals that you can achieve soon.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Fourth, turn thoughts into actions.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: And then fifth, write down your successes and achievements and review them each week or month.
