Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: Is Alabama’s Run Game Fixed? Mike Johnson Talks Crimson Tide, Georgia & Lane Kiffin | Hour 2
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Just as we were talking about scams in the last second,
- 0:04Speaker 1: my wife sent me a video of a friend of
- 0:06Speaker 1: ours who had been scammed. It's a long discussion that
- 0:09Speaker 1: she's having on social there, so I need to find
- 0:12Speaker 1: out what it is. It involved a Jefferson County sheriff,
- 0:15Speaker 1: so beware of any of the scams that are going
- 0:17Speaker 1: on out there. This is the next round presented by
- 0:20Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bets, Sport and State. Well, the state part
- 0:24Speaker 1: of this, I'll say our government should do a better
- 0:25Speaker 1: job of cracking down on scammers.
- 0:27Speaker 2: How about that? Okay, I think they're trying. Yeah, let's
- 0:29Speaker 2: close the borders of the internet. How about that? How
- 0:32Speaker 2: about that? That made Mike Johnson smile. You can make
- 0:35Speaker 2: Mike Johnson laugh. Yeah, if I can do that, man.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I used to do that on college football Saturdays. I
- 0:40Speaker 2: used to make his ass laugh. Mike Johnson, former Alabama
- 0:43Speaker 2: Crimson Tide offensive lineman, former Atlanta Falcon offensive lineman. You
- 0:46Speaker 2: now hear him on the Falcons radio network and also
- 0:49Speaker 2: 92.9 The Game over in the ATL. What's up, Mike?
- 0:51Speaker 2: How are you, buddy?
- 0:53Speaker 3: Man, I'm loving the dream. You know how it is.
- 0:55Speaker 3: We're having a good time over here trying to keep
- 0:58Speaker 3: our eyes on the prize in terms of winning football
- 1:01Speaker 3: games for the Atlanta Falcons, but it hasn't been very
- 1:03Speaker 3: easy so far.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got Atlanta as one of eight teams that
- 1:06Speaker 1: haven't won a game yet.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Are you reporting that? Do you have the same source
- 1:12Speaker 2: as I do?
- 1:13Speaker 3: One of one teams that have not reached the red
- 1:17Speaker 3: zone offensively. So, yeah, it's even worse than that.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Wow. I was unaware of that stat, Mike.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Speaking of offensive struggles, 2009. South Carolina's at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Your buddy Mark Ingram's getting honored going into the College
- 1:33Speaker 1: Football Hall of Fame this weekend with South Carolina back
- 1:36Speaker 1: in the building. Can you take me back to that night,
- 1:39Speaker 1: the struggles of the offense?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Were you on that?
- 1:41Speaker 1: You were on that 2009 National Championship offensive line, right?
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I mean, well, let's slow down on the
- 1:47Speaker 3: struggles of the offense. We had struggles of the passing game, Jim. Okay.
- 1:51Speaker 2: We.
- 1:52Speaker 3: we rushed for about two 50 there with Mark Ingram. We, we, uh, no, man,
- 1:57Speaker 3: we honestly, it was one of those unique games. Uh,
- 1:59Speaker 3: I think Mark Barron, if I'm not mistaken, had a
- 2:02Speaker 3: pick six early in the game. That was in the
- 2:06Speaker 3: middle of a stretch for our buddy, Greg, that he
- 2:08Speaker 3: didn't throw a touchdown pass for a few games. And
- 2:11Speaker 3: we had really struggled through the air. We just weren't
- 2:13Speaker 3: getting much, uh, much really done through the air. So, um,
- 2:16Speaker 3: Coach Saban, Coach McWin kind of challenging us and saying, look,
- 2:20Speaker 3: if we're ready to really put our foot down and
- 2:24Speaker 3: go into four-minute mode the way we did so many
- 2:26Speaker 3: times throughout that season, we had a lot of close games.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I think people look back on that 0-9 undefeated team
- 2:33Speaker 3: and remember Florida and remember us playing Texas that The
- 2:36Speaker 3: middle of that year was hairy at best, and we
- 2:39Speaker 3: were always pretty good at being able to run the
- 2:42Speaker 3: ball in the fourth quarter. Mark Ingram goes into Wildcat,
- 2:46Speaker 3: and we never took our foot off the gas after that.
- 2:49Speaker 3: But incredible dude, incredible player, and you know how I feel.
- 2:53Speaker 3: He's well-deserving of all the honors.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Now, I was in the press box.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I remember some boos during the offensive struggles of that
- 3:02Speaker 1: national championship game. I don't know if you guys could
- 3:05Speaker 1: hear it or not. I think there were a couple
- 3:06Speaker 1: of boos in the stands when the passing game wasn't
- 3:09Speaker 1: going right. Do you remember it that way? And what
- 3:10Speaker 1: do you think about boos coming from a fan base?
- 3:16Speaker 3: Well, I do remember them. They weren't great. I remember
- 3:19Speaker 3: we tried to complete a screen pass on the second
- 3:23Speaker 3: or third drive. You know, like their pass rush was
- 3:25Speaker 3: getting after it. They had Sergio Kendall and Lamar Houston
- 3:28Speaker 3: and Roderick McElroy and the Achos.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I love that you remember the names.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Oh, dude, look, Blake Gideon, who was at Georgia Tech
- 3:36Speaker 3: last year, was the safety. I mean, I've got them
- 3:38Speaker 3: all from top to bottom. But, no, I mean, I
- 3:41Speaker 3: do remember, yeah, it was pretty unsettled there for a moment. Um,
- 3:46Speaker 3: but you know, we were able to find our footing,
- 3:47Speaker 3: get the run game going, but yeah, I mean, that
- 3:49Speaker 3: wasn't the only time that year. I mean, my goodness,
- 3:51Speaker 3: even going back in 2008, we go 12 and two,
- 3:54Speaker 3: I think we beat Kentucky by a touchdown. Um, didn't
- 3:58Speaker 3: play extremely well against Vanderbilt at one point, you know,
- 4:02Speaker 3: we snuck by with some really close victories, but, um, offensively,
- 4:06Speaker 3: there were definitely some struggles. We were, we were more
- 4:09Speaker 3: grit than, than, than talent, you know, with some of
- 4:12Speaker 3: those offenses. Um, but we're able to get done, but Look,
- 4:15Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know. It's kind of a hard
- 4:19Speaker 3: conversation to be honest with you. I used to feel
- 4:21Speaker 3: differently about it when we were playing, I would say,
- 4:23Speaker 3: you know, look, we're amateur athletes and you know, we're
- 4:27Speaker 3: just students. You guys are, you know, should be supportive
- 4:30Speaker 3: either way. And the, the, the dynamic of the landscape
- 4:33Speaker 3: has changed, hasn't it? Right. There's a few more zeros
- 4:36Speaker 3: attached to this thing, which comes with a few more expectations.
- 4:39Speaker 3: And so, um, Lord knows, I mean, we didn't even
- 4:42Speaker 3: get out of the second series the other day with
- 4:43Speaker 3: the Atlanta Falcons and they're booing. And it's, I don't know,
- 4:48Speaker 3: it's frustrating because on that side of it, you never
- 4:51Speaker 3: want to hear the boos. And no matter what the
- 4:53Speaker 3: players are going to say, they do take it personally.
- 4:56Speaker 3: But you're also... you know, you're now making a lot
- 5:00Speaker 3: of money to go out and make plays. And I
- 5:02Speaker 3: think that you have to kind of take that in
- 5:04Speaker 3: mind when you talk about these instances happening nowadays.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Mike Johnson with us, former Atlanta Falcon, Alabama Crimson Tide
- 5:10Speaker 2: offensive lineman at MPJohnson79 if you want to follow him
- 5:13Speaker 2: on social media. And you also hear him on the
- 5:15Speaker 2: Falcons pregame, postgame, 92-9 the game in Atlanta. So he's
- 5:19Speaker 2: a busy man. And in all of that, I don't
- 5:22Speaker 2: know how much tape you get to break down, but
- 5:25Speaker 2: I do know you watch your former college team, and
- 5:28Speaker 2: it was a struggle on the offensive line last year.
- 5:31Speaker 2: They've changed coaches through three games. The running numbers have improved.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Has the offensive line improved in your eyes? Do you
- 5:38Speaker 2: look at it and you're like, year over year, I
- 5:41Speaker 2: can see some positive differences?
- 5:43Speaker 3: I don't think there's any doubt that right now Alabama's
- 5:46Speaker 3: offensive line looks more willing to be nasty. I think
- 5:51Speaker 3: that there's a willingness there that I think they had
- 5:53Speaker 3: probably more talent last year, which is the frustrating part.
- 5:56Speaker 3: But I think the willingness to kind of, I always
- 5:58Speaker 3: say the willingness to fall on your chest or fall
- 6:00Speaker 3: on your face, right? That there was way too much
- 6:03Speaker 3: like last year of, oh, this is my guy. I'm
- 6:05Speaker 3: going to make sure I'm in the framework with my
- 6:07Speaker 3: hands and I'm going to make sure that, you know,
- 6:09Speaker 3: we're kind of chest to chest. And like, I believe
- 6:12Speaker 3: in offensive line play, being willing to fall on your
- 6:14Speaker 3: face and fall on your chest. That might not be popular. Right.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Because that means like somebody sliding off the block and
- 6:20Speaker 3: maybe somebody is able to make a play in the hole.
- 6:23Speaker 3: But I believe in timing of the running back, the
- 6:25Speaker 3: spacing between the running back and the offensive line. And
- 6:28Speaker 3: if the timing and spacing are right and the offensive
- 6:30Speaker 3: lineman is willing to fall on his face, you're going
- 6:32Speaker 3: to gain yardage. And I think sometimes in college football nowadays,
- 6:35Speaker 3: we have to remind ourselves that four yards is not
- 6:37Speaker 3: a bad play. So I see more willingness from this
- 6:41Speaker 3: offensive line to be able to fall forward and to
- 6:44Speaker 3: be able to scratch and claw for yards. Are they
- 6:46Speaker 3: as talented as Caden Proctor and their group last year?
- 6:49Speaker 3: I think that remains to be seen. But I love
- 6:52Speaker 3: the nasty. I love the grit that I've seen so far.
- 6:54Speaker 3: And I think from a technical standpoint, they're probably– a
- 6:57Speaker 3: leg up as well. So I'm excited about what I've
- 6:59Speaker 3: seen so far.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah. 209 a game, Alabama six in the conference. And
- 7:03Speaker 2: as you enter conference play, you know, this, everybody's numbers
- 7:05Speaker 2: are going to drop. I mean, that's, you know, everybody's
- 7:07Speaker 2: played some lesser teams in their non-conference. Do you feel
- 7:11Speaker 2: like the run game is fixed though? I mean, that
- 7:13Speaker 2: was the thing that held Alabama back last year. Do you,
- 7:15Speaker 2: do you feel like it's fixed or do you need
- 7:16Speaker 2: to see more? I mean, fixed in terms of what, right?
- 7:20Speaker 3: Are we talking about Derrick Henry fixed?
- 7:22Speaker 2: If it was Derrick Henry fixed, this team would be something.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I mean, they were dead last. Well, I think LSU
- 7:30Speaker 2: was dead last running the ball last year. I think
- 7:31Speaker 2: Alabama was next to last in the SEC. It's clearly
- 7:34Speaker 2: better than that, right?
- 7:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Yeah, even if they're not going to keep it up
- 7:39Speaker 2: at 209 a game, and nobody thinks that, but it's
- 7:41Speaker 2: better than it was last year.
- 7:43Speaker 3: I think it would be fair to say. You guys
- 7:44Speaker 3: tell me. I think it would be fair to say
- 7:45Speaker 3: that most Alabama fans expect you to be in the
- 7:47Speaker 3: top 25% of the conference. I would agree. Right. And
- 7:52Speaker 3: so I think that's kind of where I set the bar.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Like you're, you look at certain teams around the conference
- 7:57Speaker 3: and they just, they're going to be right. I mean,
- 7:59Speaker 3: Georgia is going to be there, right. You're going to,
- 8:01Speaker 3: you're going to always look at certain teams. And I
- 8:03Speaker 3: think that along the way, there are some teams that
- 8:05Speaker 3: used to be that way that have kind of lost
- 8:07Speaker 3: their identity. I mean, my God, you know, the, the,
- 8:10Speaker 3: the Leonard Fournette years at LSU seem to be a
- 8:13Speaker 3: lost art. Like they, they, they don't even look remotely
- 8:16Speaker 3: like they did as far as running the ball the
- 8:18Speaker 3: way they did. I mean, I go all the way back.
- 8:19Speaker 3: I was watching highlights of Darren McFadlin, Felix Jones, you know,
- 8:23Speaker 3: running the ball 20 years ago in Arkansas. I think
- 8:26Speaker 3: that if you can find a way to be in
- 8:28Speaker 3: that top quarter of the conference and, you know, kind
- 8:30Speaker 3: of hover around that 200-yard mark, then I think, yes, fixed.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Do I love the way it is looked down in
- 8:35Speaker 3: and down out? No. But I love the willingness of
- 8:38Speaker 3: Kalen DeBoer, Ryan Grubb to kind of commit to it.
- 8:40Speaker 3: And I think that makes it easier when you get
- 8:42Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter of being able to pull it
- 8:45Speaker 3: off when you really need to, right? You can't just say, oh,
- 8:47Speaker 3: it's the fourth quarter, four-minute mode. Let's run power. Like
- 8:50Speaker 3: it doesn't really work like that. And so I think
- 8:53Speaker 3: that they've made a ton of strides and a ton
- 8:55Speaker 3: of improvement. Are they championship caliber yet? No, I don't
- 8:57Speaker 3: think so. And just in terms of the run game,
- 8:59Speaker 3: but I'm excited about the direction they're headed and understand
- 9:03Speaker 3: they have a little bit of runway ahead of them.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Mike, listen, I, I know you have to use your
- 9:07Speaker 1: imagination with how good Georgia is so far because of
- 9:12Speaker 1: their three games that have been off Broadway. But Oklahoma
- 9:15Speaker 1: comes to town. This Georgia team looks so buttoned up
- 9:19Speaker 1: to me. The way they handle their business, no matter
- 9:23Speaker 1: who the opponent is, they look to be a team that,
- 9:28Speaker 1: I'll just say it again, they handle their business. And
- 9:29Speaker 1: I think that carries you a long way.
- 9:31Speaker 2: What's your first impression through three games of this edition
- 9:35Speaker 2: of Kirby Smart's Dogs?
- 9:38Speaker 3: Well, I think. I think you're looking at it the
- 9:40Speaker 3: same way I do, is they're consistent. And it's because
- 9:42Speaker 3: they play to a standard, right? And I know we've
- 9:44Speaker 3: heard that before in Tuscaloosa a couple of times. You
- 9:47Speaker 3: play to the standard. You don't play to the team
- 9:49Speaker 3: you're playing. And I think that sometimes we fall victim
- 9:51Speaker 3: to that at other schools. And Kirby just has found
- 9:54Speaker 3: an ability not to allow his team to do that.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I don't think they're perfect, but I think they're as close.
- 10:00Speaker 3: to it as you can find in college football right now.
- 10:03Speaker 3: I think there's been some hiccups at the wide receiver position.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I think there's been some injury concern at other places.
- 10:08Speaker 3: I think the offensive line, even a couple of weeks ago,
- 10:11Speaker 3: playing against lesser opponents, I think he kind of wanted
- 10:13Speaker 3: a little more consistency out of them. But when you
- 10:16Speaker 3: look at the tight end room, when you look at
- 10:18Speaker 3: the decision-making of Gunnar Stockton, When you look at some
- 10:20Speaker 3: of the depth they're going to have in the front seven,
- 10:22Speaker 3: some of the playmakers, they're about as well-rounded as it comes.
- 10:26Speaker 3: And when they practice the way they practice and they
- 10:28Speaker 3: play the way they play, we've seen Georgia now and
- 10:31Speaker 3: have enough stock kind of put into what they're supposed
- 10:34Speaker 3: to look like that we know that usually week in
- 10:36Speaker 3: and week out we're going to get the best version
- 10:38Speaker 3: of them. And so, look, Georgia fans know you're going
- 10:41Speaker 3: to struggle when it comes to the Trinidad-Chamberlain's of the world.
- 10:44Speaker 3: You're going to struggle going into Bryant-Denny. Florida looks like
- 10:47Speaker 3: it's going to be a tough game at Mercedes-Benz. But
- 10:51Speaker 3: they're going to play to a pretty high level, and
- 10:54Speaker 3: it's going to be really, really hard to put them away.
- 10:56Speaker 2: So the defensive line drills during timeouts got a lot
- 10:59Speaker 2: of attention because of Kirby's comments afterwards and because ESPN
- 11:03Speaker 2: showed it and because they destroyed Arkansas. That's pretty unique, though, right?
- 11:09Speaker 2: And I know they weren't just doing it in the
- 11:11Speaker 2: Arkansas game. They've done it all along with this defensive
- 11:13Speaker 2: line coach, but I've never seen it from anybody else.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Have you seen other teams do that?
- 11:17Speaker 3: I've, that was a new one on me. Uh, I
- 11:20Speaker 3: had to ask, I had to ask our buddy Rusty
- 11:22Speaker 3: Mansell over here and a couple of other people around
- 11:24Speaker 3: the Georgia program.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I'm like, dude, that's, that's pretty intense, man.
- 11:28Speaker 3: But look, I guess when you have, uh, whatever the
- 11:31Speaker 3: scholarship numbers are these days, you don't have the 85
- 11:33Speaker 3: or whatever. I mean, you got to do what you
- 11:35Speaker 3: got to do to get your work in, but I'm
- 11:36Speaker 3: with you. I've, I've never seen anything like that. Um,
- 11:39Speaker 3: but I love the way Kirby kind of described it afterwards.
- 11:42Speaker 3: I know there was some, a little bit of bad
- 11:44Speaker 3: blood there with the, uh, you know, with the Arkansas
- 11:46Speaker 3: coach and, uh, He seemed to explain it pretty thoroughly that, hey,
- 11:49Speaker 3: we're trying to get our work in, which I love.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I could see, though, Mike Johnson leveling one of those
- 11:54Speaker 1: guys and saying, hey, next TV timeout, you better get
- 11:57Speaker 1: back and work on those drills. You better get your
- 12:00Speaker 1: coach out here. This ain't a drill, bro. Yeah, work
- 12:02Speaker 1: on that footwork, my man, because you just got pancaked. Hey,
- 12:06Speaker 1: I want to ask you, Lane Kiffin, do you think
- 12:11Speaker 1: he'll ever be a great head coach?
- 12:14Speaker 2: He's good. I'm not going to say he's not a
- 12:16Speaker 2: good head coach. Do you think he'll ever be a
- 12:18Speaker 2: great head coach?
- 12:20Speaker 3: Man, I don't know that. And by great head coach,
- 12:24Speaker 3: I think of like a dynasty. You know, I think
- 12:26Speaker 3: of a guy that's been able to make, you know,
- 12:29Speaker 3: championship appearance and multiple national titles. Well, let's start with
- 12:34Speaker 3: the top right there. I don't know that that exists
- 12:36Speaker 3: anymore with the landscape of college football. I don't know
- 12:38Speaker 3: that the dynasties even exist, right? I mean, anytime you
- 12:41Speaker 3: try to build depth, that's going to probably leave the program.
- 12:44Speaker 3: And we've seen that more times than not. The programs
- 12:46Speaker 3: that have done well either have been able to really
- 12:50Speaker 3: develop players a la Georgia or they have gone out
- 12:52Speaker 3: into the portal and have found those guys at different positions.
- 12:56Speaker 3: But I do think it's tough. Lane... just in his
- 13:00Speaker 3: personality kind of lends himself away from kind of being
- 13:03Speaker 3: that dominant guy down in that out. Cause he's just
- 13:05Speaker 3: kind of laissez faire the way he approaches things. So
- 13:09Speaker 3: I don't know, like as a player, I, that's what
- 13:11Speaker 3: I've always tried to go out with the way I
- 13:12Speaker 3: look at Lane Kiffin. I think that, you know, I
- 13:16Speaker 3: Nick Saban had just a way of getting us to
- 13:18Speaker 3: practice extremely intense every single day. I don't know that
- 13:23Speaker 3: Lane has that over a course of, you know, every
- 13:25Speaker 3: single week of every single month of every single year, but,
- 13:28Speaker 3: I think that he's a championship-caliber coach, and I think
- 13:30Speaker 3: that's the first step, and I think he's well on
- 13:32Speaker 3: his way to winning one of those.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Mike Johnson played not only for Alabama, but for the
- 13:36Speaker 2: Atlanta Falcons. I mentioned he also does Falcons pregame, postgame
- 13:40Speaker 2: on the Falcons network, as well as 92-9 the game.
- 13:42Speaker 2: So he talks a lot of Falcons, sees a lot
- 13:43Speaker 2: of Falcons. But I'm going to ask him probably an
- 13:46Speaker 2: impossible question to answer. Percentage starts for the Falcons quarterbacks
- 13:53Speaker 2: the rest of the year, like Pennix to... Boy, you
- 13:56Speaker 2: hope you don't get to Strand or Cooper Rush again.
- 13:59Speaker 2: But how do you think this shakes out the rest
- 14:02Speaker 2: of the year for the Falcons?
- 14:04Speaker 3: So going all the way back a number of months,
- 14:06Speaker 3: I projected it to be three different eras of quarterback.
- 14:10Speaker 3: And I didn't know which direction they would come in.
- 14:12Speaker 3: And I didn't know that Tua would end up getting
- 14:14Speaker 3: hurt along the way. And you're right, you don't want Cooper.
- 14:16Speaker 3: I mean, people forget that Trevor Simeon was on this
- 14:20Speaker 3: roster at the beginning of training camp and got let
- 14:22Speaker 3: go with an injury disclosure. And that's when they brought
- 14:25Speaker 3: in Cooper Rush. I think that every Falcons fan would
- 14:28Speaker 3: tell you, no matter whether or not they like Michael Penix,
- 14:31Speaker 3: that the best case scenario is Michael Penix hits the
- 14:33Speaker 3: ground running tomorrow night and is able to kind of
- 14:36Speaker 3: take that job and then you can build around him
- 14:38Speaker 3: next year. If Michael Penix does not hit the ground running,
- 14:42Speaker 3: I think you find yourself very quickly in a scenario
- 14:44Speaker 3: where You start doing some of the things that we've
- 14:47Speaker 3: seen the Jets do in the past, trading Sauce Gardner,
- 14:50Speaker 3: trading Quinn Williams, the Panthers, trading DJ Moore. You start
- 14:56Speaker 3: having to find a way to get more draft picks
- 14:58Speaker 3: because I think they only have five right now for
- 14:59Speaker 3: next football season, even though they have a lot of
- 15:01Speaker 3: cap room. There's 15 more games left. I would be
- 15:06Speaker 3: just you guys have watched Falcons football over the last five,
- 15:08Speaker 3: six years. There's been no season where one quarterback has
- 15:11Speaker 3: taken the reins and then just has ridden off into
- 15:13Speaker 3: the sunset. It's been two every year. Desmond Ritter, Marcus Mariota,
- 15:17Speaker 3: Michael Penix, Kirk Cousins, Taylor Heineke. I mean, so the
- 15:21Speaker 3: odds are that there's going to be multiple quarterbacks the
- 15:23Speaker 3: rest of the year. But I think the runway right
- 15:25Speaker 3: now is at least the next 10 to 12 because
- 15:28Speaker 3: of health. at least the next 10 to 12, to
- 15:30Speaker 3: see what Michael Penix has. And if that doesn't go well,
- 15:33Speaker 3: maybe you sprinkle in a two at some point. But
- 15:36Speaker 3: Penix is going to get every bit of leash necessary,
- 15:39Speaker 3: as you've seen with the way they've handled the injury
- 15:41Speaker 3: over the first couple of weeks, to go out and
- 15:43Speaker 3: prove that he's somebody that they can sort of build
- 15:45Speaker 3: around towards the future.
- 15:46Speaker 2: I'm not Adam Schefter, but I bet they could get
- 15:48Speaker 2: draft picks for B. John Robinson. I don't know. If
- 15:50Speaker 2: they wanted to offer him in trade, they could probably
- 15:53Speaker 2: get some draft picks for him. I, I've, I think
- 15:55Speaker 2: that would make me absolutely nauseous. I, but I mean, look,
- 16:00Speaker 2: you've got other players like Chris Lindstrom is an all
- 16:02Speaker 2: pro right guard. Who's got two years left on his deal,
- 16:05Speaker 2: kind of more suited for a wide zone scheme. They've
- 16:07Speaker 2: started running more gap scheme this year.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Jesse, Jesse Bates is an all pro safety. He's in
- 16:12Speaker 3: the last year of his contract. He's over 30 years old.
- 16:15Speaker 3: There are pieces, right? Um, You just don't want to
- 16:18Speaker 3: have to do that. You'd rather Michael Penix come out.
- 16:20Speaker 3: And frankly, I think the Packers, while I think they're
- 16:22Speaker 3: a good team, I don't think they're unbeatable on a
- 16:24Speaker 3: Thursday night without, honestly, their two best players offensively and defensively.
- 16:28Speaker 3: So I think that if you can go out and perform,
- 16:31Speaker 3: you can hit the ground running and you can start
- 16:32Speaker 3: building something. But if not, man, it's a slippery slope.
- 16:36Speaker 3: And Ian Cunningham and Matt Ryan and company over here
- 16:38Speaker 3: are seemingly willing to kind of get a fresh start
- 16:42Speaker 3: in year two for Kevin Stefanski.
- 16:43Speaker 1: And I'm a Buccaneers fan, and you can always say,
- 16:45Speaker 1: thank God we're in the NFC South. You're only a
- 16:47Speaker 1: game out of first place right now. I want to
- 16:50Speaker 1: ask you, though, if the Falcons become a franchise looking
- 16:54Speaker 1: for their future quarterback, is there a guy in college?
- 16:57Speaker 1: This is supposed to be a really deep, deep draft
- 17:01Speaker 1: class of quarterbacks, but we're 25% through the college football season.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Is there one that you see that, man, automatically I
- 17:09Speaker 1: know that guy is going to be a stud in
- 17:12Speaker 1: the NFL?
- 17:13Speaker 3: Well, ironically, I don't know if you guys saw it
- 17:15Speaker 3: last week, Matt Ryan and Ian Cunningham were at the
- 17:18Speaker 3: Oregon-Oklahoma State game, and they were there to watch, I guess,
- 17:22Speaker 3: Dante Moore, but ended up coming away impressed with Drew
- 17:24Speaker 3: Mestemaker from Oklahoma State because he had quite the game.
- 17:28Speaker 3: I think that most of the people I talk to,
- 17:30Speaker 3: they either go Trinidad, Chambliss. Arch Manning, while I think
- 17:34Speaker 3: he's a good quarterback, I don't know that he's the
- 17:36Speaker 3: difference maker that a lot of people think you need,
- 17:38Speaker 3: especially if you have a top-five draft pick. at this point.
- 17:41Speaker 3: And then I've actually heard a lot of Darian Mensah
- 17:44Speaker 3: lately because he's a guy that can move around and
- 17:46Speaker 3: utilize his legs. The frustrating part of it, guys, is
- 17:50Speaker 3: there is really nothing in Kevin Stefanski's past that leads
- 17:54Speaker 3: us to believe we know exactly what kind of quarterback
- 17:56Speaker 3: he wants. I mean, you can go from Joe Flacco
- 17:59Speaker 3: to Dorian Thompson-Robinson over the last few years with what
- 18:03Speaker 3: he's had with the Cleveland Browns, and you get no
- 18:06Speaker 3: closer to really knowing how he values these guys. And
- 18:08Speaker 3: don't forget... Tommy Reese is the offensive coordinator or the
- 18:12Speaker 3: play caller over here for the Atlanta Falcons, and people
- 18:14Speaker 3: know him from what he did with Jalen Milrow or
- 18:16Speaker 3: the frustration you might have had around Jalen Milrow with
- 18:19Speaker 3: Alabama just a couple of years ago. So I think
- 18:23Speaker 3: that Trinidad, just because of what happened last weekend, is
- 18:26Speaker 3: at the top of a lot of people's minds. But
- 18:28Speaker 3: me personally, I want somebody that can extend the plays,
- 18:31Speaker 3: but not necessarily run the football, a la Caleb Williams
- 18:34Speaker 3: and some of the things that he's been able to do,
- 18:35Speaker 3: but There's a lot of time left between now and
- 18:39Speaker 3: then for us to see who kind of comes out
- 18:41Speaker 3: of that entire race.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Unless I'm missing one, the quarterbacks that you played in
- 18:45Speaker 2: front of, college and NFL, were John Parker Wilson, Greg McIlroy,
- 18:49Speaker 2: and then in the NFL, Matt Ryan. So you never
- 18:53Speaker 2: had a short quarterback behind you. And that's the knock
- 18:56Speaker 2: on Chambliss. JPW would be the shortest. Well, what is
- 18:59Speaker 2: John Parker?
- 18:59Speaker 3: 6'2?
- 19:00Speaker 2: I mean, he's 6'2.
- 19:03Speaker 3: He's tall enough.
- 19:04Speaker 2: So he may be taller than McIlroy then. Yeah, Greg's
- 19:08Speaker 2: fairly tall.
- 19:08Speaker 3: And then Matt? I think John Parker's got Greg by
- 19:12Speaker 3: just a little bit.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I know John Parker would tell us John Parker's got Greg.
- 19:15Speaker 2: John Parker's a better golfer, too, right? John Parker would
- 19:19Speaker 2: tell us John Parker's a better golfer.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 19:22Speaker 2: But my point in the question was you never played
- 19:24Speaker 2: with a quote-unquote what the NFL would call a short quarterback,
- 19:28Speaker 2: but that's the knock on Chambliss. I mean, how big
- 19:29Speaker 2: a deal is that?
- 19:31Speaker 3: I don't think it's nothing. And I think that it's
- 19:34Speaker 3: almost disingenuous how much you hear when short quarterbacks come
- 19:38Speaker 3: out now. It's like, oh, well, Drew Brees did it
- 19:40Speaker 3: or Russell Wilson. It's hard. And the last thing you
- 19:44Speaker 3: want is to add another hurdle in front of your offense.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Here's the problem, though. I just came off a game
- 19:51Speaker 3: watching Bryce Young absolutely dice up everything the Falcons tried
- 19:55Speaker 3: to do to him last week. It's been multiple times
- 19:57Speaker 3: you've seen Bryce Young be able to do that against
- 19:59Speaker 3: the Atlanta Falcons. That was the knock on him. I
- 20:01Speaker 3: wasn't a huge Bryce guy in the draft because of that.
- 20:04Speaker 3: I think he's got a lot of stuff upstairs and
- 20:07Speaker 3: It's a quick release and he's accurate. But, you know,
- 20:11Speaker 3: I think that there's an uphill climb there. I don't
- 20:13Speaker 3: know that there's the right answer. We actually talked to
- 20:15Speaker 3: Emory Hunt earlier today and he was kind of breaking
- 20:17Speaker 3: down some things. And he's like, you know, there's just
- 20:19Speaker 3: nothing to be said bigger than a guy that can
- 20:22Speaker 3: step up in primetime situations the way Trinidad Shameless did.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Guys that know how to move around and guys that
- 20:28Speaker 3: know how to, you know, lock eyes with the safety
- 20:31Speaker 3: and make those plays under the lights. There's a lot
- 20:33Speaker 3: to be said about that, too. I don't know that
- 20:35Speaker 3: there's a perfect formula, but I do know that Trinidad
- 20:38Speaker 3: Chambliss is unbelievably talented, and he would immediately kind of
- 20:43Speaker 3: electrify what you were trying to do. Yeah, I think
- 20:46Speaker 3: in a perfect situation, Trinidad Chambliss is 6'3, or 6'5,
- 20:50Speaker 3: and we're talking about Josh Allen, but I don't know
- 20:53Speaker 3: if any of those guys are rolling around out there.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Josh Allen does not grow on trees, unfortunately. Yeah, no,
- 20:58Speaker 2: he does not.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I'm still under 6 feet, but in middle school, I
- 21:01Speaker 1: wanted to be a little taller. I used to hang
- 21:04Speaker 1: from the pull-up bar out on the playground, just hang
- 21:08Speaker 1: there for as long as I could.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Did not work, by the way. Or maybe it did.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Maybe I was going to be 5'9, instead of 5'10.
- 21:13Speaker 2: You never know.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Who knows, man? Who knows?
- 21:17Speaker 2: All right, here's Mike Johnson, MPJohnson79 on social media. When
- 21:22Speaker 2: you're in Atlanta, 92-9 the game. They do a tremendous
- 21:24Speaker 2: job there talking football and Atlanta sports. Also, Atlanta Falcons pre-
- 21:29Speaker 2: and post-game. Mike, we thank you for the time, buddy.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Always good to see you. Yeah, man.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Appreciate you guys. Anytime. All right, buddy.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Take care of Mike Johnson with us here on the
- 21:36Speaker 2: next round.
- 21:37Speaker 3: He's great.
- 21:37Speaker 2: He's one of my favorite guests when we have him on.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I love talking to him. And now that list of
- 21:41Speaker 2: Falcons quarterbacks he wrote off is pretty bad, and I'm
- 21:43Speaker 2: a Dolphins fan. Yeah, it was pretty bad.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Um, boy, you start, I mean, at some point, Joe,
- 21:50Speaker 1: you decide as an organization to dump players and that's
- 21:55Speaker 1: a tough place to be.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Well, he said it. I mean, that's what the Jets
- 21:58Speaker 2: did last year. They finally figured it out. Well, we're,
- 22:01Speaker 2: we're not. So then Quentin Williams is going, Saltz Gardner
- 22:03Speaker 2: is going, and those guys are playing in Indianapolis and in, in, uh, in, uh,
- 22:07Speaker 2: in Dallas and still playing well. I don't think he
- 22:09Speaker 2: would ever unload Bijan. I mean, That's giving up on
- 22:12Speaker 2: your franchise at that point. That's right. When you've invested
- 22:15Speaker 2: all that kind of money in him. You can't get
- 22:17Speaker 2: enough back. No, not with the money they've invested in him.
- 22:20Speaker 2: You can't get enough back. Now, Bijan, listen, buddy, people
- 22:24Speaker 2: would give up a lot for him, but you've just
- 22:27Speaker 2: said this is the future of our franchise. You can't
- 22:30Speaker 2: completely give up on our franchise. This part of the
- 22:33Speaker 2: show being brought to you, as always, by our wonderful

- 23:21Speaker 1: I love a parlay. That means Thursday is my night.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Hardrock.bet backslash clay. When we come back, four teams, let
- 23:31Speaker 1: me count them, one, two, three, four teams that we
- 23:35Speaker 1: think will bounce back with important wins this weekend. that
- 23:40Speaker 1: have either lost this past weekend or already in the season.
- 23:43Speaker 1: So one loss, at least one loss, teams that get
- 23:46Speaker 1: a bounce-back win this weekend.
- 23:48Speaker 2: He's got four. I got four.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And we'll talk about that in college football when we
- 23:54Speaker 1: come back on the next round presented by Hard Rock
- 23:57Speaker 1: Bet on Sporting State. Back on the next round presented
- 24:00Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State. Wasn't there a song?
- 24:05Speaker 1: It's hard for me to say this word without cussing.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Oh!
- 24:10Speaker 2: Funky Cold Medina. Was there a song back in the day? Yeah,
- 24:12Speaker 2: Tone Loke. Tone Loke? Tone Loke, yeah. I always think
- 24:16Speaker 2: of that because is it Medina? Let's do it. Medina, Medina,
- 24:20Speaker 2: where do they play the President's Cup? That's Medina. Medina?
- 24:23Speaker 2: It's Funky Cold Medina. Yeah. And Medina Country Club in Chicago.
- 24:27Speaker 2: But it would be pretty cool coming into the President's
- 24:30Speaker 2: Cup broadcast if they played Funky Cold Medina. That would
- 24:32Speaker 2: not be cool at all. They will not do that.
- 24:34Speaker 2: NBC wouldn't dream of Funky Cold Medina heading into a
- 24:38Speaker 2: golf event. A bit of a tonal clash there. Tyler
- 24:42Speaker 2: is correct.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Auburn's Jackson Coivin is part of the U.S. team, the
- 24:48Speaker 1: President's Cup. They had photo shoots yesterday at the Bean,
- 24:52Speaker 1: both teams. If you're betting at Hard Rock Bets, The
- 24:55Speaker 1: Americans are minus 420.
- 24:57Speaker 2: That's heavy. 420 to win this thing. Apparently, the American
- 25:03Speaker 2: team is stacked and the other team is not stacked.
- 25:07Speaker 2: That's generally the way it works in this event. So
- 25:09Speaker 2: we brought them over here for a slaughter. This is
- 25:11Speaker 2: not the Ryder Cup. No, I wish it was. They
- 25:14Speaker 2: don't take this as serious as we do? Well, no,
- 25:16Speaker 2: it's not they don't take it as serious. It's just
- 25:18Speaker 2: that you're excluding Europe and then building a team from
- 25:21Speaker 2: the rest of the world. Okay, so there's no Europeans.
- 25:24Speaker 2: There are no Europeans on this team. This is the
- 25:26Speaker 2: rest of the world minus Europe. The Ryder Cup is
- 25:28Speaker 2: the United States versus the European nations. And this is
- 25:32Speaker 2: every other continent other than Europe. And you just don't
- 25:35Speaker 2: have as many good players as you do in Europe.
- 25:37Speaker 1: But with the growing success of Korean players, I would
- 25:41Speaker 1: imagine that at some point becomes tougher. And you've had
- 25:44Speaker 1: some Australian players that have factored in. But there again,
- 25:48Speaker 1: this is a PGA Tour event, not a PGA of
- 25:50Speaker 1: America event. So you've got the whole live PGA Tour
- 25:52Speaker 1: conflict as far as the points go in this.
- 25:55Speaker 2: So, you know, that can hurt it.
- 25:58Speaker 1: But minus 420 is pretty hefty for Team USA because
- 26:02Speaker 1: we've got Scheffler and all them. And Jackson Quoivin, the
- 26:05Speaker 1: young 21-year-old Auburn star, is part of the USA team
- 26:09Speaker 1: this weekend at funky Colt Medina.

- 28:31Speaker 2: Wherever you do it. To college football, we go. The
- 28:35Speaker 2: sport we love so much. And I asked the question, Brownie,
- 28:39Speaker 2: give me four teams... that have already lost, that get
- 28:43Speaker 2: bounce-back wins this weekend.
- 28:46Speaker 1: One of them is going to surprise you. One of
- 28:47Speaker 1: them is going to surprise me. I don't know. We
- 28:50Speaker 1: matched our list earlier.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Yeah, we did with our Heisman. We matched those lists. Now,
- 28:54Speaker 2: the flip side, what do you have? I've got Oregon.
- 28:58Speaker 2: You have Oregon.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Winning at USC. That's number one. Big bounce-back win for them.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I will say your list surprised me. We've only got
- 29:05Speaker 1: one duplication.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Number two. They may not have female cheerleaders, but that
- 29:10Speaker 2: shouldn't keep them out of the college football. Maybe it
- 29:12Speaker 2: should keep them out of the college football playoff, but
- 29:14Speaker 2: we don't have rules against it just yet. Texas A &
- 29:16Speaker 2: M upsets LSU in Tiger Stadium, and it's not LSU
- 29:22Speaker 2: that bounces back. It's Texas A & M that bounces back.
- 29:25Speaker 2: That is somewhat surprising. That is going to be a
- 29:27Speaker 2: shocker Saturday night at Tiger Stadium on ABC. And then
- 29:32Speaker 2: I'm going to go a little Big 12 flavor for
- 29:33Speaker 2: you for three and four. Houston... Now, they're only playing
- 29:37Speaker 2: Georgia Southern, so this is not like a huge game.
- 29:39Speaker 2: But it will be if you lose it, obviously. By
- 29:42Speaker 2: the way, it's a losable game. It's on the road
- 29:44Speaker 2: for Houston. They're in Statesboro, Georgia. Weird spot. Weird spot
- 29:48Speaker 2: to have to go to Georgia Southern. Now, this is
- 29:50Speaker 2: not a conference game. Ultimately, for Houston, all that's going
- 29:52Speaker 2: to matter is conference play. But the reason they need
- 29:54Speaker 2: to bounce back is two straight losses. You get a
- 29:57Speaker 2: little bit of a funk. You get some of those
- 29:58Speaker 2: bad vibes we were talking about on Withrow's list earlier.
- 30:01Speaker 2: But if Houston, like, I mean, it's not outside the
- 30:03Speaker 2: realm of possibility. They can get back to Texas Tech
- 30:06Speaker 2: in the Big 12 championship game if they take care
- 30:08Speaker 2: of business. And then if you're Houston, you're like, man,
- 30:13Speaker 2: we went to their place and we're a two-point conversion
- 30:15Speaker 2: away from forcing overtime. We can beat these guys and
- 30:17Speaker 2: you can be in the playoffs. And then because Matt
- 30:20Speaker 2: Campbell's gone, nobody pays attention to Iowa State anymore. Their
- 30:22Speaker 2: only loss is a close loss to Iowa. They've got
- 30:25Speaker 2: Utah at their place this week. Again, conference game. All
- 30:28Speaker 2: that matters is conference for Houston and Iowa State. You're
- 30:30Speaker 2: not going to get an at-large bid. So all that
- 30:32Speaker 2: matters is conference now. So that Iowa loss, it's a rivalry.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I get it. But you can flush that if you
- 30:38Speaker 2: beat Utah. And now you're alive in the Big 12
- 30:41Speaker 2: race with a chance to go to the playoffs. Long
- 30:43Speaker 2: shot for Iowa State. A little less of a long
- 30:44Speaker 2: shot for Houston. But there again, I think both those
- 30:47Speaker 2: teams are still alive. Really good list.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Really good list. With an upset on there, too.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I'm going LSU gets the biggest bounce back win at
- 30:55Speaker 1: home against Texas A & M. I just think the
- 30:58Speaker 1: Texas A & M offense is broken.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Broken.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:03Speaker 2: It does look that way.
- 31:03Speaker 1: And so you're going to go on the road Saturday
- 31:06Speaker 1: night in Death Valley and LSU gets– there wasn't– it
- 31:10Speaker 1: was a loss for LSU.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:12Speaker 1: But there was nothing alarming in that loss. I know
- 31:14Speaker 1: you guys will harp on Sam Levitt this or Sam
- 31:16Speaker 1: Levitt that.
- 31:17Speaker 2: He's turning it over a lot.
- 31:17Speaker 1: But I don't think enough was broken. And that defense
- 31:21Speaker 1: shut down Ole Miss except for one broken play that
- 31:25Speaker 1: Trinidad turned into a touchdown. So LSU bounces back for me.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Oregon bounces back for me. I think they were already
- 31:34Speaker 1: looking ahead to this USC game even when they lost
- 31:36Speaker 1: in Stillwater. And to your concern about Houston going to
- 31:40Speaker 1: Statesboro and Georgia Southern, I think Oregon went to Oklahoma
- 31:44Speaker 1: State without the right mindset.
- 31:45Speaker 2: They didn't put the work in during the week. It
- 31:47Speaker 2: looked like it. They got whacked.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Here's my upset of the week. Wisconsin gets a big
- 31:52Speaker 1: bounce back win. They played Ohio State. Excuse me, they
- 31:55Speaker 1: played Notre Dame. Good for a half.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
- 31:58Speaker 1: And this is a better Wisconsin team than we've seen
- 32:01Speaker 1: in recent years, and I think they're on the road
- 32:03Speaker 1: at Penn State.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Is it in Happy Valley?
- 32:04Speaker 1: It is in Happy Valley. So it's a road game
- 32:06Speaker 1: Wisconsin-Happy Valley. Almost my upset alert this week, but I
- 32:11Speaker 1: played it safe with Sac State.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that is a Peacock game, by the way. You
- 32:14Speaker 2: stream that one on the Peacock at 4 o'clock Central Time,
- 32:17Speaker 2: Wisconsin at Penn State. Wisconsin at Penn State.
- 32:19Speaker 1: And I put Auburn on here with a bounce-back win.
- 32:22Speaker 1: And people are going to say, Jim– They're playing Vanderbilt.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Jim, they are playing Vanderbilt. Auburn at home, they should
- 32:29Speaker 2: beat Vanderbilt. Should. This Fandy team, unbeaten, by the way,
- 32:33Speaker 2: not overly impressive and lucky in some.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:36Speaker 2: But they play pretty good defense. And I put Auburn on.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Here as a big bounce-back win for this reason. Losing
- 32:44Speaker 1: to Florida the other night is not derailing anything.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Alex Golish is doing yet. But a loss to Vandy.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Now you've got two straight losses with challenging October. That's right.
- 32:54Speaker 1: But still, all those games left in a first year
- 32:59Speaker 1: for a program that's been a while. Since they've had
- 33:02Speaker 1: a year that they can feel good about. So I
- 33:05Speaker 1: won't use the word must win for Alex Golish this weekend.
- 33:09Speaker 1: But this is a pretty important win as far as
- 33:11Speaker 1: Vanderbilt games go. And has Vandy beaten Auburn two straight years?
- 33:17Speaker 2: Vandy... Is that right, Scott? That is correct. Brooks, Vandy
- 33:21Speaker 2: holds the all-time overall. Yeah, but I'm currently doing the
- 33:23Speaker 2: all-time series graphic right now. Two wins the last two
- 33:27Speaker 2: years gives Vandy the all-time series lead, 23-22. Wow. Put
- 33:33Speaker 2: our watermark on there very large, Brooks. Almost like you
- 33:36Speaker 2: couldn't remove it. Kind of makes it ugly when you
- 33:38Speaker 2: do that. Yeah, okay. Then don't. I mean, so there's a...
- 33:43Speaker 2: There's a famous movie that I accidentally watched in black
- 33:46Speaker 2: and white.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Okay.
- 33:48Speaker 2: By accident. By accident, yeah. You had a choice? No, no, no, no.
- 33:51Speaker 2: I've told the story before, but this is back in
- 33:53Speaker 2: the DVD days. And I'd gotten a new TV, or
- 33:55Speaker 2: a new DVD player, I think. And I was having
- 33:57Speaker 2: to hook it up. And you remember you used to
- 33:59Speaker 2: have the... The little prongs that plugged in. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:02Speaker 2: And I didn't get it all the way plugged in,
- 34:04Speaker 2: so it was in black and white. Well, the first
- 34:06Speaker 2: DVD I watched on it was... Oh, what's the name
- 34:10Speaker 2: of the movie? Monster's Ball. In black and white. In
- 34:13Speaker 2: black and white. And there's a famous scene in Monster's
- 34:15Speaker 2: Ball with Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton. Oh, I
- 34:20Speaker 2: was thinking of Monster's Inc., Very, very different movies. That
- 34:25Speaker 2: scene would look a lot different. Yeah, that scene would
- 34:27Speaker 2: be much different. Mike Wazowski. One of them was animation.
- 34:31Speaker 3: Would that change the rating of that movie?
- 34:33Speaker 2: A little bit, yes. One of them was animation, and
- 34:35Speaker 2: one got animated. Correct, yes. So anyway, I watched Monsters Ball,
- 34:39Speaker 2: and it's accidentally in black and white, and I just
- 34:42Speaker 2: thought they were trying to be super artsy, and I
- 34:44Speaker 2: watched the whole thing in black and white. But there's
- 34:47Speaker 2: that famous scene in there, and Halle Berry is just saying,
- 34:50Speaker 2: all she wants to do is feel good. That's right.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Just make me feel good. Just make me feel good.
- 34:53Speaker 2: As most cartoons go. I don't remember Mike Wazowski saying that.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Just make me feel good. So Halle Berry just wants
- 35:00Speaker 2: to feel good. Just make me feel good. So Scott,
- 35:02Speaker 2: when's the last time you felt good? No, no, no.
- 35:08Speaker 2: I didn't finish the question. That's a personal question. I
- 35:10Speaker 2: did not finish the question. In what context? I was
- 35:13Speaker 2: going to tell you, and you all started laughing. Halle
- 35:15Speaker 2: Berry sex to Auburn football. That's it. It's the longest transition.
- 35:20Speaker 2: When is the last time, Scott, as an Auburn fan,
- 35:22Speaker 2: you felt good?
- 35:23Speaker 3: Oh.
- 35:26Speaker 2: That's been a while, right? As an Auburn football fan.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Auburn football fan, not basketball. I know you were hanging
- 35:29Speaker 2: your NIL banner on baseball.
- 35:31Speaker 3: This past year.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, that's true. I forgot about that. He
- 35:33Speaker 2: literally said in the back room, I don't care if
- 35:36Speaker 2: we give every bit of our NIL dollars to baseball.
- 35:39Speaker 2: That's sadly where I am. I mean, it has been
- 35:41Speaker 2: a while. Even with basketball right now. But I really, Scott,
- 35:44Speaker 2: I don't think there's a Vanderbilt outcome that can make
- 35:46Speaker 2: Auburn fans walk out of Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday feeling good, right?
- 35:49Speaker 2: There's not. You feel better. You got to see a win,
- 35:52Speaker 2: but you don't feel good. And I just, I mean,
- 35:55Speaker 2: that's the plight of the Auburn fan right now, Dunaway.
- 35:57Speaker 2: It's been a long time since they've felt good. I
- 35:59Speaker 2: don't even know what the answer is to that question.
- 36:01Speaker 2: 2019 Iron Bowl? That's probably it.
- 36:03Speaker 3: I guess. Yeah.
- 36:05Speaker 2: I mean, you haven't won the Iron Bowl since then.
- 36:06Speaker 2: 10-win team? Yeah. That was probably it, the 2019 Iron Bowl.
- 36:11Speaker 2: The fake. Or they were 9-3. They lost their ballgame. Yeah.
- 36:15Speaker 2: So it's been a while.
- 36:15Speaker 1: To come full circle with Lane Kiffin. Lane brought Ole
- 36:19Speaker 1: Miss in and Harsin beat them. I was there on
- 36:21Speaker 1: a Saturday night at Jordan-Harris Stadium and the fans seemed
- 36:24Speaker 1: pretty happy.
- 36:25Speaker 2: They were happy. I mean, Carnell Williams coached that game
- 36:28Speaker 2: against A & M and the fans rushed the field
- 36:29Speaker 2: after the game. But I don't think you, that was
- 36:32Speaker 2: a night where, oh, that felt good to win, but
- 36:34Speaker 2: you didn't leave there feeling good about your program. I mean,
- 36:37Speaker 2: Auburn fans have not felt good about their program in
- 36:39Speaker 2: a long time. And again, I don't think a Vandy
- 36:40Speaker 2: win does that, but my point was going to be, Jim,
- 36:42Speaker 2: and I have gone a long way to get to
- 36:43Speaker 2: this point, I do not deny it, but a Vandy loss,
- 36:49Speaker 2: and boy, I mean, you walk out of Jordan-Hare like,
- 36:52Speaker 2: how far down are we right now? And it's definitely
- 36:56Speaker 2: a losable game. I mean, they could lose that game. Yeah,
- 36:59Speaker 2: how quickly, and I'm sorry to put you on the spot, Forrester,
- 37:02Speaker 2: how quickly can you give me the SEC power ratings
- 37:04Speaker 2: we showed on the show yesterday? And if it's not
- 37:08Speaker 2: sport and state designed, I apologize. Here it is. Auburn
- 37:14Speaker 2: is 13th in our ranking and Vandy's 15th.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I had them 14, by the way. You had Auburn
- 37:22Speaker 2: or Vandy? I had Auburn 14, Vandy 15. I had
- 37:27Speaker 2: South Carolina 15, Vandy.
- 37:30Speaker 1: 14, Auburn 13, I believe. It's close to in the
- 37:34Speaker 1: neighborhood of what I had. But anyway, it's about as
- 37:37Speaker 1: important of a game you can have between two teams
- 37:40Speaker 1: on that bottom line.
- 37:41Speaker 3: This weekend.
- 37:42Speaker 2: I would agree. I mean, less so for Vandy because
- 37:45Speaker 2: they are undefeated. Conference road loss is that big. But Auburn,
- 37:48Speaker 2: you're a nine and a half point favorite. And that
- 37:52Speaker 2: game Saturday night was not as close as the score
- 37:54Speaker 2: would indicate. Auburn fans did not walk out of Jordan
- 37:56Speaker 2: here feeling like, well, we almost beat Florida.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Here's why this is a good win, though. Vandy's defense
- 38:01Speaker 1: is pretty darn good. And Auburn's offense has been having
- 38:04Speaker 1: some protection issues.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Correct.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Some running the football issues. And I think some turnover issues.
- 38:11Speaker 1: And that's where the path to Vandy winning the game is.
- 38:15Speaker 1: So if you win the game if you're Auburn, then
- 38:17Speaker 1: you've corrected some of your problems. And that's why I
- 38:20Speaker 1: think it's a good bounce-back win for Auburn this weekend.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Do you guys think that's a weird line? Nine and
- 38:24Speaker 2: a half does seem a bit high to me. I
- 38:26Speaker 2: think that's steep. To me, that tells you Vegas thinks that...
- 38:31Speaker 2: Auburn's going to run. Auburn's going to run it. But
- 38:33Speaker 2: let me ask you this, Scott. If the last play
- 38:35Speaker 2: doesn't happen and Vandy's coming off a loss to NC State,
- 38:38Speaker 2: doesn't nine and a half feel about right? Feels about right. Yeah.
- 38:41Speaker 2: And that's really the way the game went. Yeah, I
- 38:42Speaker 2: think Vegas looked at that and was like, we're going
- 38:44Speaker 2: to ignore. And in fact, it might actually help Auburn
- 38:47Speaker 2: that that game ended that way because all the focus
- 38:50Speaker 2: on that and maybe a false sense of security out
- 38:53Speaker 2: of Vanderbilt players. Hey, with that in.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Mind, in our final segment here on Sport and State
- 38:57Speaker 1: of this part of our four-hour show today, I want
- 38:59Speaker 1: to ask the question, Is there some playoff elimination games
- 39:04Speaker 1: this weekend for one team particularly that everyone had in
- 39:10Speaker 1: their college football playoff? Is it an elimination game this weekend?
- 39:13Speaker 1: We'll talk about that and hear from a coach that's
- 39:16Speaker 1: got another big game this weekend in our final segment
- 39:19Speaker 1: today of the next round on the Sporting State platform
- 39:22Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bat. Final segment of our Sporting
- 39:26Speaker 1: State part of the day. Again, two more hours on
- 39:29Speaker 1: the next round. round platform coming up. I did want
- 39:32Speaker 1: to point this out. I saw this stat bouncing around.
- 39:36Speaker 1: I want your quick reaction. If these are true, maybe
- 39:41Speaker 1: Brooks can give us this graphic at some point down
- 39:43Speaker 1: the road this week. Lane Kiffin's top 25 loss this
- 39:46Speaker 1: past weekend. And if you've already sent this out, Brooks,
- 39:49Speaker 1: I apologize. He's now 13-26 is the number I saw.
- 39:53Speaker 2: That is, I think, the number I saw as well.
- 39:56Speaker 2: But I saw him compared to someone. Are you about
- 39:57Speaker 2: to make a comparison?
- 39:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:58Speaker 2: He is behind Brett Bielema. That's right.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Who is 23-45 and tied with Houston Nutt, who is
- 40:06Speaker 1: 20-40 in his time as a coach.
- 40:08Speaker 2: I thought it was weird that those were the two
- 40:09Speaker 2: they picked. I don't know why they picked Brett Bielema
- 40:11Speaker 2: and Houston Nutt, two former Arkansas coaches.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Well, I mean, he's tied with one and he's behind another.
- 40:17Speaker 1: So I think that's just where he was falling in
- 40:21Speaker 1: coaches against top 25 teams.
- 40:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:23Speaker 2: And now Bielema actually probably was fairly good against the
- 40:26Speaker 2: top 25 at Wisconsin, not at Arkansas, though.
- 40:29Speaker 1: He's got a big one with Ohio State this weekend.
- 40:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:32Speaker 2: And they're obviously big underdogs. Fox big noon. Klatt with
- 40:35Speaker 2: us tomorrow. He had a commercial shoot Monday, so he's
- 40:38Speaker 2: with us tomorrow. I would. I mean, do you view
- 40:43Speaker 2: those coaches as... I remember this.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin is considered to be one of the best
- 40:50Speaker 1: in the business right now. And Lance always points out
- 40:53Speaker 1: to me that he has been underwhelming in big games.
- 40:58Speaker 2: He has been. I mean, those numbers tell you that, right?
- 41:00Speaker 2: That's right. I'll say this about Houston Nutt. I don't
- 41:02Speaker 2: know if you remember this like I do, but 2008 Alabama-Georgia,
- 41:07Speaker 2: the blackout game, you and I were over in Athens
- 41:09Speaker 2: at Sanford Stadium. That was the day that Houston and
- 41:12Speaker 2: Ole Miss upset Tim Tebow in Florida in the swamp.
- 41:15Speaker 2: And Georgia, of course, Athens was going crazy over that
- 41:18Speaker 2: because they were thinking, hey, here goes our arch rival.
- 41:21Speaker 2: We're about to beat Alabama. We're going to be the
- 41:23Speaker 2: number one team in the nation, and Florida's out of
- 41:25Speaker 2: the way now, maybe. And I remember we got in
- 41:27Speaker 2: the press box before that game, and the Alabama team
- 41:30Speaker 2: had showed up, and some of the Alabama coaches and
- 41:31Speaker 2: people were in the press box. And I asked one
- 41:33Speaker 2: of them, did you guys happen to see the end
- 41:37Speaker 2: of that Florida-Ole Miss game? And they're like, yeah. And
- 41:40Speaker 2: that person said, Coach thinks Houston Nutt does more with
- 41:44Speaker 2: less than anybody in the conference. I was like, wow,
- 41:47Speaker 2: Nick Saban has that kind of respect for Houston Nutt?
- 41:49Speaker 2: I was a little surprised by that, but it has
- 41:51Speaker 2: always stuck with me that somebody on Alabama staff would
- 41:55Speaker 2: have told me that Nick Saban had that much respect
- 41:58Speaker 2: for Houston Nutt. Back during the pandemic, I had a
- 42:02Speaker 2: coach tell me the same thing he felt about Eli Drinkwitz,
- 42:04Speaker 2: that he did a lot, that they were impressed with
- 42:06Speaker 2: Eli Drinkwitz, what he does, sometimes with quote-unquote less. The
- 42:10Speaker 2: show today being brought to you in part by our
- 42:12Speaker 2: friends at Crockett Coffee. Crockett Coffee is the coffee brand

- 43:09Speaker 1: if you would, give me cut number 10. Here's Pete Golding, man.
- 43:14Speaker 1: Pete Golding's got a job to do this week, bringing
- 43:17Speaker 1: his guys back down from that big win over LSU
- 43:21Speaker 1: and packing up, taking them on the road to the
- 43:24Speaker 1: swamp where the swamp is supposed to be juiced this weekend,
- 43:28Speaker 1: maybe like we haven't seen in the Swamp in a long,
- 43:30Speaker 1: long time. Here is Pete Golding on having to pull
- 43:34Speaker 1: his team back down from the clouds after beating LSU.
- 43:38Speaker 4: You know, a lot of these games on this schedule,
- 43:41Speaker 4: you're going to have to be at your best, whatever
- 43:43Speaker 4: that looks like.
- 43:44Speaker 3: It ain't perfect, right?
- 43:45Speaker 4: And there's several things in that LSU tape when you
- 43:48Speaker 4: watch it that could have gone the other way that
- 43:50Speaker 4: they didn't take advantage of. And those are the things
- 43:52Speaker 4: that we're talking in week in and week out. You've
- 43:54Speaker 4: got to stop putting those things on tape because they're
- 43:57Speaker 4: going to have those weak. They're going to take advantage
- 43:59Speaker 4: of them, and it's not going to look the same
- 44:00Speaker 4: at the end. So I think that message obviously was
- 44:06Speaker 4: taken yesterday, but I think you kind of start all
- 44:08Speaker 4: over with these guys every day, man. So when they
- 44:11Speaker 4: come back, you've got to re-hit the message and refocus.
- 44:15Speaker 4: But I think they understand if their attention to detail
- 44:18Speaker 4: is not there, and they don't prepare and they don't
- 44:21Speaker 4: practice extremely hard, then it's tough to win in this league.
- 44:24Speaker 4: I don't care who you're playing. And so, you know,
- 44:27Speaker 4: to me, my last memory of going to this place
- 44:30Speaker 4: was being number 14 in the country versus a five
- 44:32Speaker 4: and five football team and getting beat, right? Much less
- 44:35Speaker 4: being a top 25 team like they are right now, right?
- 44:38Speaker 4: And them being a top 25 team in their home place,
- 44:40Speaker 4: they're 80% win percentage in the last 10 years. That's
- 44:42Speaker 4: a hard place to play. So if they're overlooking anybody,
- 44:46Speaker 4: and they're reading all their shit for this week, there's
- 44:48Speaker 4: something wrong with them.
- 44:50Speaker 2: He's never going to change. He referenced maybe you brought
- 44:53Speaker 2: up Lane Kiffin's record. Maybe Lane Kiffin's worst loss as
- 44:55Speaker 2: a head coach. They go to that Florida game. I
- 44:58Speaker 2: think it was the next to last week of the season.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Kentucky at home, second worst loss. Well, the Kentucky at home,
- 45:03Speaker 2: they were still going to overcome. All they got to
- 45:05Speaker 2: do is go beat that 5-5 Florida team in the swamp,
- 45:08Speaker 2: and they lose that game, and it kicks them out
- 45:10Speaker 2: of the playoffs. They're going to the playoffs if they
- 45:11Speaker 2: can win that game. They had survived the Kentucky loss,
- 45:14Speaker 2: and that, in hindsight, was a terrible loss. There's no doubt,
- 45:16Speaker 2: and you lost that one at home. Either one, you win,
- 45:19Speaker 2: you're probably in the playoffs, but they certainly were if
- 45:21Speaker 2: they won that Florida game. Good news, to his point,
- 45:24Speaker 2: this ain't that same Florida. Well, bad news, it ain't
- 45:26Speaker 2: that same Florida team, but good news is, as far
- 45:28Speaker 2: as getting your team's attention, this will be one of
- 45:33Speaker 2: the most difficult coaching jobs Pete Golding will ever have
- 45:35Speaker 2: in his career. And all the guy's done is coach
- 45:37Speaker 2: against top 25 teams. He's coached playoff games. He's coached
- 45:40Speaker 2: against Louisville in a neutral side and LSU on his
- 45:43Speaker 2: home field. I mean, the dude has coached nothing but
- 45:45Speaker 2: tough teams. Helped out by a little bit, though.
- 45:47Speaker 1: The fact that the people that do odds, like our
- 45:51Speaker 1: friends at Hard Rock Bet, Made him the underdog.
- 45:55Speaker 2: That helped a little bit. I would have to think.
- 45:57Speaker 2: He's referenced it, so you know that it's on his mind,
- 46:01Speaker 2: which means he's probably brought it up to his team.
- 46:03Speaker 2: He's referenced it. I mean, in a sense, you would
- 46:07Speaker 2: think you won't have trouble getting your team's attention for
- 46:09Speaker 2: this game, but I just can't imagine how these guys
- 46:13Speaker 2: have been celebrated as heroes all week. I can't imagine
- 46:15Speaker 2: what campus has been like at Ole Miss this week.
- 46:19Speaker 2: And your team lives in that environment, and it's hard–
- 46:23Speaker 2: to reprogram them to, guys, I know we won a
- 46:27Speaker 2: big game last week that everybody had anticipated all offseason,
- 46:30Speaker 2: but this game is every bit as difficult, if not
- 46:33Speaker 2: more difficult, than that one. Do you think you could
- 46:35Speaker 2: get an Ole Miss player to believe beating Florida is
- 46:37Speaker 2: more difficult than beating LSU? No, not one of them.
- 46:41Speaker 2: But Las Vegas is telling you it is, for whatever
- 46:43Speaker 2: that's worth. And I'm sure Pete Golding's eyes, when he
- 46:46Speaker 2: watches the film, are telling you it is. When we
- 46:48Speaker 2: get to our first segment of the next round coming up,
- 46:51Speaker 2: that next round live on YouTube, We'll hear from John
- 46:54Speaker 2: Summerall talking about what kind of environment he expects in
- 46:58Speaker 2: Gainesville this weekend with Ole Miss coming to town for Florida,
- 47:02Speaker 2: who is now good at working the cut and also
- 47:08Speaker 2: a playoff contender. So we'll talk about that coming up
- 47:11Speaker 2: in just a second. There is an absolute, in my opinion,
- 47:15Speaker 2: elimination game. If one team loses this weekend in college football.
- 47:20Speaker 2: I'm going to argue with you on this. And it's
- 47:22Speaker 2: the Oregon Ducks. Yeah. I don't think you're right. I
- 47:24Speaker 2: don't think they come back.
- 47:25Speaker 3: Well.
- 47:26Speaker 2: I don't think they come back if they lose this game. Now,
- 47:28Speaker 2: that could be true that they're not able to pick
- 47:30Speaker 2: themselves back up. No, I know what you're going to say.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Oregon losing to Oklahoma State is like Alabama losing to
- 47:35Speaker 2: Florida State.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Yep.
- 47:36Speaker 2: And they can come back and win the Big Ten.
- 47:38Speaker 2: That's right. They're automatically in. But you're not saying that. Okay, okay.
- 47:40Speaker 3: I got you.
- 47:41Speaker 2: It's all true.
- 47:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:42Speaker 1: I don't think Oregon bounces back and becomes a playoff
- 47:45Speaker 1: team if they lose this week in the USC. It
- 47:48Speaker 1: is going to be really tough because here's the truth
- 47:51Speaker 1: of it. If they lose this game, they really have
- 47:54Speaker 1: no margin for error to take on another loss. Now,
- 47:57Speaker 1: that's if you think there's an undefeated and a one-loss
- 48:01Speaker 1: team in the Big Ten or two one-loss teams. But
- 48:03Speaker 1: the remainder of their schedule, I mean, you've still got
- 48:07Speaker 1: to go to Ohio State. You've still got to host Michigan.
- 48:09Speaker 1: I mean, when you start looking at the rest of
- 48:11Speaker 1: their schedule....
- 48:13Speaker 2: This is probably the second most difficult game they have left.
- 48:16Speaker 3: Behind Ohio State.
- 48:17Speaker 2: Behind at Ohio State. Because the rest of their schedule
- 48:20Speaker 2: is UCLA at home, Nebraska at home, Illinois on the road,
- 48:24Speaker 2: tricky game, Northwestern at home, at Ohio State, Michigan at home,
- 48:28Speaker 2: at Michigan State, Washington at home. This is your second
- 48:32Speaker 2: most difficult remaining game here. So if you lose this one,
- 48:36Speaker 2: the good news is you've still got the rest of
- 48:38Speaker 2: your schedule that is less than this other than one game,
- 48:40Speaker 2: but you're going to have to win that game. you're
- 48:42Speaker 2: going to have to win at Ohio state if you
- 48:43Speaker 2: lose this one. And that's, that's the bad news here.
- 48:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:46Speaker 1: And if you, if you lose to Ohio state, now
- 48:48Speaker 1: you've got that Oklahoma state loss, you've got two conference
- 48:51Speaker 1: losses and you're a three loss team. You're not a
- 48:54Speaker 1: very attractive three loss team. They're going to be a
- 48:56Speaker 1: lot of attractive three loss sec team.
- 48:59Speaker 2: And you, I just read you the teams they played.
- 49:01Speaker 2: So who are your big wins there? You know, Portland state, Boise, UCLA, Nebraska, Illinois, Northway,
- 49:06Speaker 2: not a lot of big wins on there either. So
- 49:08Speaker 2: it's not like you're going to have a great resume
- 49:10Speaker 2: if you're Oregon. Um, I would tend to agree with you.
- 49:13Speaker 2: If you look past the fact that they could lose
- 49:16Speaker 2: this game and still win the Big Ten and automatically
- 49:18Speaker 2: get in, if they lose this game... all of a
- 49:20Speaker 2: sudden it is an absolute must Saturday November 7th you
- 49:24Speaker 2: can't lose anything else and you have to win that
- 49:26Speaker 2: game at Ohio State.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Were you surprised that LSU Ole Miss did not become
- 49:32Speaker 1: the most watched game in college football. They ended up
- 49:36Speaker 1: the second most watched.
- 49:37Speaker 2: Of the season, yeah.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Yeah, of the season. 10.9 million, still behind Ohio State,
- 49:42Speaker 1: Texas at 13.99 million. It's the second most watched game.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Do you think the lightning delay of a very popular team, Alabama,
- 49:54Speaker 1: bleeding into that window hurt them a little bit? Because
- 49:56Speaker 1: Florida State, Alabama is the one, two, three, four, five,
- 50:00Speaker 1: six most watched game this year in college football. Normally,
- 50:03Speaker 1: Alabama being down is really good TV, right? Alabama being
- 50:08Speaker 1: behind is good for TV ratings. People tune in to
- 50:10Speaker 1: see that. So that's going to naturally take some numbers away.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Seven million people delayed Florida State Alabama.
- 50:16Speaker 2: That's right. And it bumped. So, I mean, you had
- 50:19Speaker 2: to hunt to find it if you're digging around. But
- 50:21Speaker 2: it bumped Oklahoma and New Mexico off of ESPN, too.
- 50:25Speaker 2: So they moved it to ESPN, too. But at that time,
- 50:28Speaker 2: you had it going head-to-head. When that game was still
- 50:30Speaker 2: in doubt, Bama and Florida State was still in doubt
- 50:31Speaker 2: when LSU and Ole Miss kicked. Yeah, and a pretty
- 50:34Speaker 2: good Florida- Auburn game.
- 50:35Speaker 1: Auburn game going on at the same time. It doesn't
- 50:38Speaker 1: show up in the top rankings, top ten.
- 50:40Speaker 2: And even though it's not a great game- With Notre
- 50:43Speaker 2: Dame playing head-to-head, Notre Dame gets some TV numbers. I
- 50:46Speaker 2: don't know what number that did, but, I mean, Notre
- 50:49Speaker 2: Dame pulls some TV numbers just by being Notre Dame.
- 50:53Speaker 2: But I was surprised that Florida State-Alabama, with the delay,
- 50:58Speaker 2: is the second most watched game of the weekend. And
- 51:00Speaker 2: I was surprised— You still had Alabama trailing. Surprised a
- 51:03Speaker 2: little bit that the number was so low for LSU
- 51:07Speaker 2: and Ole Miss, and then way down the 10th most
- 51:09Speaker 2: watched game. I hate that that— great football game was
- 51:12Speaker 2: buried opposite of LSU Ole Miss and second half of
- 51:17Speaker 2: Alabama Florida Auburn with that great atmosphere Jordan Hare the
- 51:21Speaker 2: 10th most watched game just a little over 2 million
- 51:25Speaker 2: how did enough people watch Georgia Arkansas to keep that
- 51:27Speaker 2: number four that was an unwatchable game yeah just just
- 51:31Speaker 2: the window they were in I guess yeah they were
- 51:33Speaker 2: in that 11 a.m. window and they're you know NC
- 51:35Speaker 2: our North.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Carolina and Clemson were there but they had a massive
- 51:37Speaker 1: delay as well yeah I mean imagine if Florida-Auburn had
- 51:41Speaker 1: been 11 o'clock. I know it would have taken away
- 51:43Speaker 1: from the electricity inside Jordan-Hare Stadium.
- 51:45Speaker 2: But it would have probably been number three. It would
- 51:46Speaker 2: have probably been where Kentucky A & M is. I
- 51:48Speaker 2: would agree. Would have bounced way up in that department there.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Just a little TV ratings from this past week, but
- 51:54Speaker 1: still the most watched game is not LSU-Ole Miss in
- 51:57Speaker 1: the country for the season. It's Ohio State-Texas from two
- 52:01Speaker 1: weeks ago. We'll see if somebody can pass that 13.99
- 52:03Speaker 1: million mark this year. All right, that's our show today.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Thank you to our friends at Hard Rock Bet. Remember,
- 52:10Speaker 1: in Florida and the other states I give you, you
- 52:12Speaker 1: can go check out hardrock.bet backslash clay.
- 52:16Speaker 2: That's it for us on Sporting State. When we come
- 52:18Speaker 2: back on our new link, a new two-hour link on
- 52:21Speaker 2: our platforms, the next round we'll jump in to some
- 52:24Speaker 2: Alabama and Auburn conversation. Biggest concern for Auburn, is it
- 52:29Speaker 2: the offense or the defense? And for Alabama, what's the
- 52:33Speaker 2: key to a faster start? All that's coming up as
- 52:35Speaker 2: the next round continues.
