- 0:02This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is Spoiled Me, covering one piece
- 0:12episodes four twenty two and four twenty three, a deadly infiltration, the underwater
- 0:19prison impel down, and a reunion in hell the man who ate the Chop
- 0:26Chop Fruit. In this episode, we have unexpectedly teamed up question Mark with
- 0:35Buggy the Clown. And I'm pretty sure I mentioned Buggy and somebody asked me
- 0:44what I thought he was up to, and I do not think I said
- 0:49he's in the prison because this caught me off guard. Welcome to spoil Me,
- 1:15Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much
- 1:19to Florian for commissioning this episode. What's up Florian? So, y'all,
- 1:29I don't. I am really surprised that when I started this episode we like
- 1:36jumped back into full time lufy. I really thought that because we had just
- 1:41started on seeing where everybody was and what they were up to, that we
- 1:47were going to continue kind of with another couple of episodes where we jumped between
- 1:53them and you know, see exactly what's going down where Robin is with this
- 1:59work can and see what's going on with Chopper and this weird bird thing,
- 2:06and it may be that we go back to them after this couple of episodes,
- 2:09but the way this one ended the second of these two, I get
- 2:15the feeling that we are staying with Lufy for a little bit here. So
- 2:22I'm really really surprised because I knew his intent was to get here and be
- 2:29and like take care of business without his friends, but I just didn't think
- 2:37he was really gonna do it. I think that's what it really comes down
- 2:40to. I really didn't expect him to actually attempt this all by himself,
- 2:49and I feel like very mixed about it, where a part of me is
- 2:55interested despite myself, to see how this goes when he's alone, but another
- 3:00part of me really misses the cruise coordinating and it's I don't know, it's
- 3:06sort of interesting, like how I can kind of roll my eyes at how
- 3:12predictably all of our friends wind up at one location but then wind up having
- 3:15to split up, and the ways that they usually split, like who goes
- 3:21with who, and it can be really similar every time. And then as
- 3:29much as I find myself kind of going like we've seen this before, we
- 3:32do something totally different here, And there's a part of me that's really uncomfortable
- 3:37with it, like genuinely going. But he shouldn't this like alone, come
- 3:40on, you know, so I this episode opens with all of our the
- 3:52whole thing with Ace. There's a conversation that he is having with Garb where
- 4:00is telling him about the chat he had with Lufy and finally telling him who
- 4:06Lufy's father is, and Ace has a pretty like angry reaction. Garb says
- 4:19it took him by a surprise, can't blame the boy, and Ace says,
- 4:27our fathers plural, to hell with them? And I was like,
- 4:33wait a second, did they have the same mom but different fathers? Or
- 4:41was this just like a translation mistake or because it really sounded from the way
- 4:47he said it like he was referring to multiple dads and they were both you
- 4:53know, bullshit, but they were not the same person. And he,
- 5:00like he Garpet expressed some hope that maybe Ace and Lufy would become marines eventually,
- 5:08and Ace says, to hell with you if you ever thought we would
- 5:11be marines. We've both got the blood of criminals running through our veins.
- 5:16And that was the only gift those bastards ever gave us. I took the
- 5:21name port gas from my mother because I owe her so much, but I
- 5:27don't owe my father a damned thing. I don't even remember the bastard.
- 5:32He can keep his name. And Garb says, I know, I know,
- 5:39but the man tried, he wanted to And Ace says, enough,
- 5:44all right, listen to me, and we get a bit of a flashback
- 5:50where white Beard is approaching Ace in like a desolate landscape. It's uncleared to
- 6:00me whether or not, like white Beard was responsible for the desolation. I'm
- 6:04assuming that he is, but it also puzzles me if he is, why
- 6:11Ace would team up with him or like, because so here's the thing.
- 6:18White Beard reaches a hand out to him and says, don't fight it,
- 6:24run wild with us, and there's all kinds of like smoke, and it
- 6:30seems ash floating through the air, and so I'm like, did Ace lose
- 6:36control of his ability? And like, it's a weird thing, because you
- 6:41know, normally, whenever you've got a sort of why a story about a
- 6:47person coming into a superpower, you always have to deal with the unintentional uses
- 6:56of the power, initially that happened by accident, and then eventually when they
- 7:00attempt to use it on purpose, the power being like wildly out of their
- 7:04control and they have to work to manage it and get it down to a
- 7:09level that isn't so totally like what's the word I want? Like? Because
- 7:16the analogy I think of is when you're first using a tool, you don't
- 7:24understand that you don't have to turn it all the way up to high,
- 7:28or that there is a different setting than high. So I'm almost wondering if
- 7:33this scene Ace did something and is like feeling frustrated and abandoned, and this
- 7:41guy is swooping in seeing how Ace has a power that could be super useful
- 7:46to him, and you know, obviously taking advantage of this kid who is
- 7:51in a position where it seems like nobody's really looking out for him. I
- 7:58don't know whether or not Ace is actually if his mother is still alive,
- 8:03or if he did something to her that he feels guilty about or what.
- 8:09But yeah, when Whitebeard says to him, join up, our flag will
- 8:13be yours and I'll call you son, that clearly hits something in Ace.
- 8:20And then we see from like the camera goes behind him and we see the
- 8:24tattoo on his back that is the like cross it's it's a skull and crossbones,
- 8:31really, but the crossbones are instead of forming an X, they form
- 8:37a T. I hesitate to say T because the ta has a longer tail
- 8:41at the bottom, and this is you know, equidistant, but you get
- 8:45what I'm saying. Like that, it's it's uh vertical and horizontal instead of
- 8:50diagonal. And then the skull on top has a giant mustache because as we
- 9:00have mentioned, white Beard does not have a beard, which is hilarious.
- 9:05And he says, white Beard is my only father, got it, old
- 9:09man? And Garp doesn't look pleased, but he doesn't answer, and he
- 9:16also doesn't move. So once again, I'm really puzzled about what amount of
- 9:22time is supposed to have passed, because Garp is over here with Ace in
- 9:28this jail, and it seems like nobody knows he's there, based on what
- 9:39we have seen from the security team up top. Once Lufy and Boa arrive,
- 9:46they keep pretty careful count of people going in and out and watch them
- 9:52fairly closely. And I maybe it's that Garp has permission to be here.
- 10:01Maybe they recognize that due to the fact that he is family and he is
- 10:05so high level in the Marines that he could just kind of do what the
- 10:09fuck he feels like, so they may fully know that he's there. The
- 10:13thing that I am sort of stuck on is if they didn't know he was
- 10:20there. We have seen in these two episodes that there are like video cameras
- 10:24all over the place, and if they didn't know, there's no way that
- 10:28they don't have cameras on Ace's cell. Like he's the primary get they're dealing
- 10:35with right now and they are going to be I think at the end of
- 10:41the first of these two episodes we find out that it's like how many days
- 10:50until his execution. I feel like they said like three days and something hours.
- 10:54I don't remember, but so yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna go with
- 10:58thea that he's allowed to be here. I am thinking that because of his
- 11:07presence, this might allow Lufy an edge. Like Garp, I don't feel
- 11:13like he's going to throw in with Lufy in a real obvious way necessarily.
- 11:20I think that he values his position in the Marines too much for that.
- 11:26But I do think that he would be willing to sort of like screw up
- 11:31whoever's coming after Lufy and make it more difficult for them and confuse the issue,
- 11:35and then he had plausible deniability afterward. So Sarah him says, the
- 11:43very first version of that Jolly Roger for Whitebeard, the cross was amani second
- 11:50line at a ninety degree angle coming off each end of it. Then Oda
- 11:54realized that while in Asia that symbol means something completely but nigh, no,
- 11:58not so much in other parts of the world. Oh no, it took
- 12:07me a minute to understand, like to visualize what you were describing, Seraphim.
- 12:11But yeah, so white Beard had a fucking swastika with a skull in
- 12:18the middle. That is unfortunate. Wow, I'm like, it's just such
- 12:28a ubiquitously understood thing here. Like it's still interesting to me to know that
- 12:35there are cultures who I know they are the ones who originated this symbol,
- 12:41right, like the use of it, but it got so completely co opted.
- 12:46And this is the fucking thing, isn't it. White people take shit
- 12:50and then they twist it up and they ruin it, and they make it
- 12:52so that the original thing you've got like baggage around it. Now it sucks
- 13:00so anyway that that's a real bummer. Poor Odom must have been like,
- 13:03oh God, when somebody pointed it out to him. So we go from
- 13:11the cell, Garp and Ace are left, and we go back to Lufy,
- 13:16who is on the ship. They are coming in soon, they're gonna
- 13:20be going through the gates, and Lufy is just sitting hiding still in the
- 13:24chamber that Boa is hiding him in, staring at this scrap of paper with
- 13:31his that's his brother's bever card, and that shit is so thin at this
- 13:37point by the time that Lufy is actually in the jail and like trying to
- 13:45find his way around, it's like pencil thin. It's it looks like you
- 13:52guys remember having like spiral bound binders, and you'd tear a sheet of paper
- 13:56out, but it would like leave a piece of paper in the spiral that
- 14:01you would have to peel out. It's like that. Then Gus says,
- 14:09I think this scene is a flashbackslash continuation of the scene where Garp first talks
- 14:13to Ace in prison. It's just split before and after the straw hat check
- 14:16in episodes. Okay, I thought that this was supposed to be like an
- 14:22ongoing thing that was happening throughout all of this, All of this travel with
- 14:26Lufy because you know, he's on the he's been on the ocean at this
- 14:30point. I think they said like three days. So I thought, since
- 14:33it started before or right when he was leaving, that the amount of time
- 14:41he had been traveling was the amount of time that was passing for them as
- 14:43well. Gus says, it seems like Garp is allowed to be here by
- 14:48rank, but he's not supposed to be here because the war is about to
- 14:50start. So Sengoku was mad in the first scene. Oh right, I
- 14:54forgot about that, right right right? Seraphim said, as to Garp,
- 15:01what about him makes you think he cares what anyone else thinks. He's gonna
- 15:03do what he wants. It's not about him. It's about their security and
- 15:09why they're not coming down on him. That's my question. You know,
- 15:13they have been so insistent with Boa that I really would think that even if
- 15:18they can't enforce it, that they would be down there like hassling him a
- 15:22little bit and being like sure, I really most insist you go back upstairs
- 15:26like that kind of energy. But anyway, okay, so we cut you
- 15:31guys would cut two a pair of binoculars on a flag and I mean,
- 15:37this is an unmistakable flag. You know, this is Buggy. There's no
- 15:41other there's no other clown it could be. And it's funny to me because
- 15:46I think of him is so distinctive. But the marine who sees this flag
- 15:50is just like, it looks sort of familiar, but he doesn't place it
- 15:54right away. And the admiral, I'm not sure who would What the name
- 16:00of the guy with the mohawk, ponytail and the like kind of triangular mustache.
- 16:10Uh, it's the dude that you know, Boa has been in conversation
- 16:15with what is his name? Guys? I cannot keep it in my head.
- 16:19I'm gonna try and remember, but really no guarantees because I don't I'm
- 16:23not sure how important he's going to continue to be, but I just always
- 16:29you know, it's difficult every time I realize that, like I still I
- 16:33know you've told me, and I haven't. I cannot hold on to that
- 16:36brain, that name in my brain. It's just slides right off like teflon,
- 16:44Uh did you do? Okay? So this the whomever he is?
- 16:52These dudes are, you know, looking out at Buggy's ship trying to decide
- 17:00how much of a threat he is, and this guy decides that if it's
- 17:04not an immediately apparent risk, then we don't have time to deal with it
- 17:11right now, so just leave them alone. And then we cut over to
- 17:15Buggy's ship, and we've got the crew here, including the Lion. They
- 17:21are evidently trying to save Buggy. They're on their way to save him,
- 17:27allegedly, and a huge sea king is like diving into the ocean right next
- 17:34to their boat, and they're sort of freaking out because reminder, you know,
- 17:40the last time we saw them. I think it might have been the
- 17:44East Blue, it may have been here. I can't remember if Lufy has
- 17:48seen Buggy since coming to the Grand Line, but they obviously are a little
- 17:56bit out of their depth. And it turns out they have Alvida with them.
- 18:02And I know I have mentioned this already, but I just really really
- 18:07enjoy Alvida's like when I think about the transformation, and that she doesn't see
- 18:14anything different about herself. That's what I hold on to, even though a
- 18:18part of me is very irritated that there had been a fat, very feminine
- 18:23woman who had total confidence and I was robbed of that. It does suck,
- 18:30I do enjoy that they're keeping like the same voice actress for her,
- 18:34so she has a much more mature, raspy voice than you would anticipate from
- 18:41a character who looks like this. But I do really really miss of the
- 18:47original Vita, because I mean, come on, I still you guys.
- 18:53Halloween around here is actually pretty depressing. Like I adore Halloween in theory,
- 19:03but ever since moving to Texas, it's been kind of tough because it's not
- 19:07only like Warmer a lot further on in the year here than anywhere else that
- 19:12I have ever lived, but also there aren't parties. There aren't lots of
- 19:18things that Like, my husband has friends, but his friends don't tend to
- 19:23throw parties very often, and if they do, they're very low key,
- 19:29the kind of thing that like, you could just show up in no costume
- 19:32and you would probably be in good company. Like it's I really really want
- 19:38to go all out with my costumes, and I did the first couple of
- 19:42years we were here, until I began to realize that, like, even
- 19:48if there's somewhere to go, even if somebody throws a party, we get
- 19:51in the car in these costumes that are sometimes difficult to like maneuver in we
- 19:57drive ten minutes to their house, get out, are seen by like six
- 20:02other people, and then get back in the car and go home. And
- 20:06it's not worth it to do a big elaborate costume, which is it really
- 20:11bums me out, And that's part of why, like, I'm going so
- 20:12hard with what I'm wearing to Beyonce and stuff because I'm going to be in
- 20:15an actual crowd. But I would love to cosplay Alvida, and I would
- 20:23want to do it for like a convention, but I don't really go to
- 20:27conventions, like especially because of the nature of what I do. There's some
- 20:34worry for me regarding spoilers, but there's also just money. Conventions are expensive
- 20:41to get into there if you want to, like you know, get photos
- 20:45with a celebrity or like a signature or anything that's expensive. And other than
- 20:51like going to panels, there's only shopping. So I don't tend to go
- 20:56to them. And I have been really like thinking that maybe next year.
- 21:03I don't know, it depends on how far along I am, because if
- 21:07I were to cause play a one piece character, my concern is that somebody
- 21:15will say something to me and spoil me. On it, you know.
- 21:22And I don't know how likely that even really is, but you can never
- 21:29tell. Folks will just like blurt stuff out, you know. And so
- 21:33I would love to do that, like for next year or something, because
- 21:37I would just nail that cause play. I'm fat, I have short,
- 21:41curly, dark hair, like I would just be perfect. And it's on
- 21:47my mind, like in the background all the time, because it would be
- 21:51a pretty easy causeplay to pull off. There would not be a lot that
- 21:55I would have to build from scratch. It's an assemblage of weird garments that
- 21:59I would have to alter a little. And I just anyway, if you
- 22:03guys have thoughts on whether or not it seems likely that somebody might say an
- 22:08offhand comment, Like the main question that I have is is there anything that
- 22:19is there anything specific that happens to her that could get totally ruined for me?
- 22:26I guess, is really what I'm asking? Or is she kind of
- 22:30a safe character to choose? That's all That's all I'm asking. Okay,
- 22:38so this the Alvida is like not interested in helping Buggy. They apparently spend
- 22:48all of their money on an eternal log pose and she's like you guys dragged
- 22:55the ship out here, and I had nothing to do with it. I
- 22:59didn't tell you that we could manage this. I didn't want to spend this
- 23:03money. And she says, guys, look around, we're about to go
- 23:07into the calm Belt. It's all sea kings, and you guys just freaked
- 23:15out when you saw the one. Do you really think that you are prepared
- 23:19to deal with what's coming? And then we've got a whole other route that
- 23:23we could take that's all fucking navy vessels. We are a pirate ship.
- 23:32What exactly was your plan? And evidently they did not think this far ahead.
- 23:38That's what their plan was was. There wasn't one. They just figured
- 23:42it would work out. And the guy who has this weird like white rough
- 23:48of hair, or he looks sort of like the sheep that was the sheep
- 23:53man from the head of Oh my God, the Mayor, but a little
- 24:03bit less ram like, he's got more of a human face, but he
- 24:07still does have like the curled horns at the top of his head. And
- 24:10he's like, well, I thought that just like getting here would be the
- 24:14difficult part, but you're telling me that we can't even get in and the
- 24:21dude with the stripy hair says him and his buddy Ace are going to be
- 24:26killed, and I was like, his buddy, his buddy? What since?
- 24:36When? Oh my god, are they like friends? I have a
- 24:41lot of questions, and maybe this was like maybe there was like one of
- 24:45those little side stories. I don't know, but that really really caught me
- 24:51off guard that they're being viewed as like a match set by these guys.
- 24:56Oh, Gus is in the chast says, I don't think you'd get much
- 24:59spoiler comments if you guys played al vw'd probably you're probably gonna see art and
- 25:03stuff from later if in the series, if you're at a convention. Yes,
- 25:07this is what I like get worried about, because like there's a great
- 25:11likelihood that I would just see like a character art and it wouldn't be specific
- 25:17enough for me to realize, like, oh, such and such happened to
- 25:18this character. But there's always a chance, you know, Gus says,
- 25:27remember around Jaya, Ace snuck on to Buggy's ship when he was partying.
- 25:37I don't remember that, Gus. It's like tickling the faintest, but not
- 25:44not really. I have lost track of a lot I don't know how when
- 25:49you're not consuming things at the rate I am for this show, I don't
- 25:55know how you keep track of like plot threads and stuff. It's you just
- 26:00have to rely. I would assume on like the online wikis and stuff.
- 26:03What did people used to do before that? I guess early stages of the
- 26:07internet, they were probably like chat rooms and things like that, and maybe
- 26:11they had like a you know, the complete Compendium to Sara from says,
- 26:18there was a bit several episodes ago where we get a flash over to Buggy
- 26:22hunting for loofy Ace shows up on the ship offering to guide them, and
- 26:26when Buggie saw the white beard tattoo, he went, I am not fucking
- 26:32with that guy. So they just partied. Ha God, I'm afraid that
- 26:37failed entirely to sink in. Sorry, guys, I really feel like the
- 26:45past couple of years have like fucked up my brain. And I know that
- 26:48everybody's saying this, but I mean it. I mean it in like a
- 26:52not ironic, not ha ha, adulting kind of way. I mean,
- 26:56like, I think COVID plus the trauma of what's been going on in the
- 27:03country have like fucked up my ability to retain information and keep things straight in
- 27:11my head, because I am straight up losing words guys when I'm talking,
- 27:17Like I'll be searching for a word more often than usual, and like not
- 27:22able to remember what it was I was trying to say. I was doing
- 27:25an intro with Rashan the other day. I fucking said my own name wrong,
- 27:26you guys, I said my own name wrong in the intro. Like
- 27:33that's not that's not great. I feel like that's a bad sign. So
- 27:41okay, they're they're just adamant, like, yeah, we've got to help
- 27:45somehow. And as they're talking, the lion whose name is Richie, keeps
- 27:52crying, and they are assuming that Richie is also mourning for their beloved captain,
- 28:00and they do not understand that, in fact, our lion friend just
- 28:10is very hungry. Our lion friend would actually get along quite well with Lufy
- 28:15if there were a way to, you know, avoid him attacking Lufy or
- 28:22seeing him as an enemy. So I am really this these this crew.
- 28:32I'm thinking they're heading this way. But Alvida is like, guys, I
- 28:38don't know what you all thought you were gonna do. But Buggy, his
- 28:47luck has just run out y'all are not going to be able to break him
- 28:51out of like the highest security prison in the world. And they start yelling
- 28:57and crying about how he has to go out in a blaze of glory and
- 29:03that this can't be how it ends, and they're all talking about sticking with
- 29:08him to the very end and sounding like super committed. The crying, you
- 29:14guys, oh my god, so much crying. Do you remember how I
- 29:18said it was nice that they showed men crying in like the first episodes of
- 29:23the show, because so much of the time I felt like we were supposed
- 29:26to be like upholding the patriarchy and the silent strong man. And now I
- 29:33realized that, like anybody on this show cries at the literal drop of the
- 29:37hat, and it's it's nothing anyway. So this is when Alvita says,
- 29:47all right, guys, you want to do that, fine, I'm gonna
- 29:48take the big top and get the hell out of this place. You guys
- 29:52can use like a raft or something. And they say, well, what
- 29:56do you mean. This is buggy ship, not yours, And she's like,
- 30:00I don't see buggy anywhere, do you. I Am not going to
- 30:07go throw myself into the jaws of death for that dude. And I'm not
- 30:14going to let this ship go to waste and get caught up by the navy.
- 30:18I am going to take control of this ship. And if you want
- 30:23to save Buggy, I'm not going to stop you from going, But you're
- 30:27not going on this fucking ship. That's all I gotta say. And I
- 30:34love the image that we get of all of them imagining how it would go,
- 30:38the crew piled into this little life raft and then a giant sea king
- 30:44coming from behind them and just eating the whole ship hole. It's delayful.
- 30:49And she's like, guys, you can do that. Like I said,
- 30:55you're not gonna last five minutes. Let's be real. And they say,
- 31:00well, we appreciate you, Buggy, and we'll remember you forever. But
- 31:07it's the end of the road. I hope you have a good execution.
- 31:11Maybe it'll be fun, which is amazing, Like, maybe it'll be fun.
- 31:22Sure, Okay, maybe, ah you guys. So the fact that
- 31:32they're not turning in coming it really does add a bit of interest to the
- 31:37story for me, Like, I don't I am not sure if I hadn't
- 31:47seen this what I would have thought. But I am. I'm going to
- 31:52guess that if we weren't given this information, I would expect Buggy's ship to
- 31:56be like out there waiting somewhere on the sidelines. I don't know. I'm
- 32:06just sort of you know what I'm saying, Like I really like that it
- 32:15seems that they're out of the picture. But also the Big Top, I
- 32:20mean the Big Top. That's like it's so on brand for Buggy specifically,
- 32:23and I'm trying to imagine what happens if his crew doesn't come back for him.
- 32:30Did they track the crew down somewhere else later? I guess they could
- 32:32do that. It would take a while, though, Like yeah, I
- 32:39don't know, I don't know, But basically knowing that Buggy is like completely
- 32:44on his own here, it just sort of changes the dynamic for me.
- 32:49So this is when we go back to finally Lufy and Boa and they're like
- 33:00talking about how the gate is going to work to get through, and then
- 33:05we get like this montage of all of the prisoners in the prison being tortured,
- 33:12and it's pretty rough, you guys, Like there's just lots of people
- 33:15screaming like just let me die. Nobody deserves this. We've got a guy
- 33:21being dropped head first down a well, another guy being whipped. There is
- 33:30a weird scene where a bunch of prisoners are like grouped together in a cell,
- 33:36but apparently there was like a pile of food that was just up for
- 33:40grabs and they have established a way that this works that he either doesn't know
- 33:45about before they tell him or he just didn't care, and he is just
- 33:51up eating all of the food, and I was like, why is a
- 33:57prison handling things this way? But the dude who's like gonna enforce things comes
- 34:05up behind him ready to like, you know, beat the hell out of
- 34:08him, And just as he raises his fists and brings them down on this
- 34:13guy to start fighting, the door to the prison opens and this fucking like
- 34:20minotaur comes in and raises a club. We just see the guy turn to
- 34:27the minotaur with this look of absolute terror on his face, and then a
- 34:31few seconds later the minotaur is leaving and dragging both of these guys by their
- 34:37ankles, and the prisoners are all cheering for the minotaur, which I'm genuinely
- 34:45like, is it just that they're cheering because they're so bored that they just
- 34:49want something to happen, like I didn't really get what the cheering was about.
- 34:55But he throws them in in a different cell and locks it, and
- 35:02they're like, hey, I'm not even on death row, buddy, Like
- 35:07what's going on? Let us out? And they all of a sudden,
- 35:13there's like a pair of red eyes that open behind them, and they turn
- 35:17and look over their shoulder and start to scream, and we see them like
- 35:22reaching out from between the bars and screaming, but we don't find out exactly
- 35:29what was going on there. I don't know if it's like because we get
- 35:32a look at some creatures a little bit later that are on ropes that are
- 35:39cut and allowed to attack. I guess, so I think that they're just
- 35:45being straight up executed. I sort of wondered if it was going to be
- 35:49like a oh, fight for my entertainment kind of situation, like jab of
- 35:52the hut, you know what I mean. But it seems like it's straight
- 35:58up we're putting you in the feeding pen. And if it is, I
- 36:05mean, it would make more sense to me. I guess that the guys
- 36:07were cheering if it were more of an entertainment thing. So I guess that's
- 36:13where I got a little bit tripped up, but so let me go to
- 36:21the ship and Lufy, like Hancock had seen how small the scrap of paper
- 36:28Lufy is clinging to has become. And you can see her getting really agitated
- 36:32about it, like she's worried on his behalf. They're coming through the gates
- 36:37and it's just like the number of ships. He says something like, there's
- 36:46even more ships here than there was at the Buster call, which is surprising,
- 36:52honestly, because I thought that the Buster call basically like it was all
- 36:58hands on deck. But nevertheless, Lady Hancock, she is being summoned up
- 37:07onto the deck and she's like, all right, Louvie, you are going
- 37:09to have to be really careful here. I don't know how we're going to
- 37:13deal with this. And they're talking. She talks to him briefly about how
- 37:22few people ever can say they've seen a buster call and actually like live to
- 37:27tell about it. And I don't think that Louvy tells her the whole story
- 37:31here. I think that he just sort of is like, yeah, well,
- 37:35you know, I'm one of them. So he gets under her cloak
- 37:40and they head inside. She is being cheered by the Marines yet again,
- 37:49and I love that She's just like, oh my god, I'm so sick
- 37:52of these guys. Can I just turn them into stone again? Please?
- 37:55Like? And the react when she turns it says, basically to shut the
- 38:05hell up. All of the guys are like, oh, she's so beautiful
- 38:08when she's angry, and I was just like, oh my god, you
- 38:13guys, I don't have you ever. Ladies out there, show of hands,
- 38:21have you ever had somebody tell you you're so beautiful when you're angry?
- 38:25Because I have, And I very nearly tore his gonads out by the roots
- 38:36with my teeth. I remember the rage that overcame me at this, like
- 38:42the condescension, the like, your emotions are very secondary to whether I want
- 38:45to fuck you right now. I didn't like have the vocabulary to really put
- 38:51words to what was so gross about it, but I just remember feeling like
- 38:54I was going that kind of rage that you want to start crying they're so
- 38:59angry, which will also sort of undermine the way a person sees you,
- 39:05especially men a lot of the time, so you can't let yourself cry,
- 39:09like, oh my god. I really did not blame her for wanting to
- 39:13turn them to stone, and the captain is like, I think you have
- 39:16humiliated the Marines quite enough for the week, and we are going to just
- 39:23go on without you. Just ignore them. We're going inside. You won't
- 39:27have to be around them anymore. So and he tells her, look,
- 39:35you may be a warlord, but you're a pirate and therefore not welcome.
- 39:43They're gonna let you in. They'll let you walk around a bit and look
- 39:47at things, but you're going to have to undergo a full body search,
- 39:52and they will also make you wear sea prism handcuffs to hold your to hold
- 40:00your powers at bay. We have to do this to keep anybody from sneaking
- 40:06in to rescue Ace or any other prisoners. So she whispers this to Lufi
- 40:15and he just tells her, we'll figure something out, don't worry about it.
- 40:21So, meanwhile in the prison, we have two of the weirdest dressed
- 40:30characters for their professions. Guys, it's not even like their costumes are individually
- 40:37so weird. It's for what it is they are supposed to be doing that
- 40:43it is so weird. The dude who's sort of in charge is wearing this
- 40:52like Egyptian headdress that and no shirt, and he's got a almost pair of
- 41:02wings, like I'm not even sure what you would call them, coming up
- 41:07off his back. And I was thinking that we were going to get like
- 41:15a sort of regal, distant personality from him, in the style of a
- 41:20god, like it was supposed to be that he was pretending to be some
- 41:24kind of Egyptian god, but he just behaves really normally. He there's like
- 41:35even a sort of goof goofiness to him, like he isn't really used to
- 41:39being in charge. And his name is Hanniable according to my little subtitle here,
- 41:50and when he says welcome to my prison, his face is like all
- 41:54red and foreboding. But when the camera pulls back you get to see that
- 42:00he isn't actually that impressive. He's quite tall, but otherwise like he's pawnchy.
- 42:08He seems unsure of himself. He's got really thin arms, like there's
- 42:14no musculature there, and he has two horns that stick out of his head
- 42:19that are flesh colored in the same, like the same exact tone as his
- 42:23skin, which I don't know why, but that really squicked me out bad.
- 42:28And he has like what I want to call a khaki, like a
- 42:34green khaki skirt. It's not pants. And this because like you know,
- 42:43if you look at Egyptian murals, shirt listen to, skirt is not unusual.
- 42:47But because he has such a gut, the skirt is like very low
- 42:52on his hips and it looks so weird. And guys, it has like
- 42:58a cargo pocket like on the skirt. I truly could not like what.
- 43:07You fully expect this dude to be in a fucking uniform and I was almost
- 43:12expecting him to get yelled at for this, and it is not commented on.
- 43:16He also just carries a fucking pitchfork evidently, like that's just his weapon
- 43:22of choice, I guess, but yeah, and he says something about the
- 43:28dumbass warden and then says, oh, that's not what I meant. The
- 43:31perfectly competent Warden Magellan is in his office on level four. He told me
- 43:37he would like to meet with you, and then he introduces Miss Domino,
- 43:44who he says is like the vice manager of the prison. Now let's talk
- 43:49about Miss Domino, you guys, because Miss Domino, what a weird combo
- 43:57of looks we've got going on here. Imagine if you were to try and
- 44:02combine sexy nurse with sexy nazi. It's a jacket that's supposed to be long
- 44:19enough to be a dress, but I would argue probably isn't double breasted.
- 44:24I say that it's not really like I don't know if it counts as double
- 44:28breasted if there's only one row of buttons, but it crosses over like more
- 44:31than halfway in a manner that reminds me of old school doctor's coats. But
- 44:40there's a pocket on each breast and lapels, and so underneath you can see
- 44:46a white shirt with a black collar and black tie, and the jacket is
- 44:54sort of a tan, like a khaki. And then she's got like elbow
- 45:01length red gloves and thigh high red boots. Her blonde hair is long down
- 45:09her back, and she has a very like SS looking hat at a rakish
- 45:16angle on her head, plus a pair of aviator glasses, which it all
- 45:27combines to be really really really bizarre, and it feels like it's straight out
- 45:35of some kind of porn parody, like just and as they're walking, she
- 45:44is describing the things that they do to the prisoners in this like what what
- 45:52we're supposed to be getting from this is how cold hearted everybody is that they
- 45:57can talk about these horrific in like tortures that they're inflicting on the prisoners with
- 46:02very little emotion and no sense of like the monstrous nature of what they're doing.
- 46:08But because she looks so weird and because of the voice actress like not
- 46:19intoning much with her voice and the way she talks, it just felt really
- 46:24funny, like there was something about this that I was just like, man,
- 46:29it's really missing the mark for me. I'm not horrified by all of
- 46:32this. I just find it so funny. She talks about like, oh,
- 46:37yeah, here's the bath that we use on the prisoners. It's like
- 46:42boiling water, and it's also like a baptism, so it's, you know,
- 46:45very economical, and I'm like, is it Why do you care about
- 46:50baptizing them? What do you even mean? And then she brings up fire
- 46:53fist Ace and she's like talking about their celebrity prisoners, which is just so
- 46:58funny to me. She mentions Jim Bay of the Seven, which I don't
- 47:02think we've met that one, and former warlord Crocodile, which I'm very excited
- 47:09to see Crocodile again. I hope that we touch base with him. She
- 47:15says, both are model prisoners that didn't bat a eye at their little baptism.
- 47:22I bet they didn't because crocodile could probably just absorb that water. So
- 47:29she brings Boa into a private room for the pat down, and inevitably we
- 47:36wind up getting a bunch of jokes from the dudes about how you know,
- 47:39sexy it is, that there's going to be like women touching up on each
- 47:44other and whatnot. And it turns out we've got these security cameras and these
- 47:49dudes are like watching and all of this. Boa is trying to like figure
- 47:54out exactly how she's going to manage it. So she sees the camera and
- 48:00glares at it. The dudes are just, of course, totally enchanted with
- 48:05her. And then this woman is trying to put the sea Prism cuffs on
- 48:12her, and she's attempting to figure out how do I get around this and
- 48:15not completely ruin everything for lofy. So what she does is she does like
- 48:24this real slow sort of turn and go like be gentle, I'm delicate,
- 48:32and the girl is so caught off guard by her beauty that she becomes susceptible
- 48:39to the love love beam and thus is made into stone, and I actually
- 48:47thought that that was kind of fun. I really did like she Also,
- 48:53I can't remember what it is she does to the camera because all of the
- 48:58cameras in the place like get focused on her face for a second because they're
- 49:04all obsessed with her. So I'm watching it now to see how it is
- 49:08that she handles the camera because these guy's eyes are permanently locked in that weird
- 49:14heart thing. Oh my god. But yeah, so she turns this woman
- 49:20to stone with a love love beam. It looks like simply hitting her with
- 49:25the beam also turned I don't know if it turned the camera to stone,
- 49:30but it definitely like shorted it out, I guess, because when we go
- 49:36into the room where the security guards are watching, it's snow on that particular
- 49:43screen. So yeah, I was. I guess it's just supposed to be
- 49:46sort of a side effect. But yeah, so she's telling Lufy, I'm
- 49:53so sorry that I can't help you further, but this is as far as
- 49:58I can take you, and I need you to really know. If you
- 50:02fucking get caught in here, I don't even know what kind of things they'll
- 50:08do to you. Like this is super dangerous and you have better take care
- 50:13of yourself after all of this, and he grabs her hand and says,
- 50:17I won't let you down. You have my word. Thanks for everything,
- 50:22Handcock, You're the best. I won't forget what you've done, not for
- 50:27the rest of my life. And she is almost catatonic here for a second,
- 50:35like he called her by her correct name and thanked her and said he
- 50:42would never forget her, like it's a lot. She loses it a little
- 50:46bit and I love The scene ends with her saying, say say my name,
- 50:52lufy, say my name again, and he just says, oh what,
- 50:54And then we cut to the outside where the guys are waiting and just
- 50:58kind of going do you think is happening in there? And of course he
- 51:05has to be a creep about it, and you know, too hot chicks
- 51:07touching each other. But just as he's about to open the door and kind
- 51:12of go check things out, Hancock comes out and the woman Domino is like
- 51:19acting mostly normal, but she has a hand to her head and she says
- 51:23something like I hope that didn't take too long, and then to herself says,
- 51:30I don't know why, but I have the weirdest feeling, and it's
- 51:35like she knows she lost some time there for a second, but can't quite
- 51:38put her finger on what happened. Which, yeah, evidently if you get
- 51:43turned to stone, you like forget about it, so that would be quite
- 51:46confusing. Meanwhile, as they're like doing all of this, Lufy is crawling,
- 51:52like hanging onto the rafters. Who's crawling out of the room above their
- 51:57heads? And oh my god, this fucking dude. What the next floor
- 52:04is called the burning heat floor, which you know you could assume by its
- 52:07name it's quite hot there, as its name implies, and I don't know
- 52:14why. But again, between him and Domino, the way that this is
- 52:19being handled is so funny, like just the acting as if you're on a
- 52:25tour of like a historical site. But it's still happening and everybody is.
- 52:30It's not being presented like, oh the horrible things we used to do to
- 52:35each other. It's like, I don't know we're doing this now. And
- 52:39Lufy, he says, like, as he is hanging off the ceiling,
- 52:46he gives Hancock a thumbs up and he says, hey, Hancock, thank
- 52:51you, But she misreads it and thinks he said Hancock, I love you,
- 52:58and she falls to the ground. The fucking guard says, do nude
- 53:04Melth to Melth, you know what she needs, sir, is her fist
- 53:07to your balls. And Lufy goes down in this elevator and I think that
- 53:14he's like on top of it. I'm he's trying to figure out where to
- 53:20go. Hancock had told him probably that Ace is underwater, so he is
- 53:28going to have to head down as much as he can. And he pulls
- 53:30out the beaver card like again, you guys, it is so so small,
- 53:35it's almost gone, and he winds up. I was so sorry,
- 53:42you guys. I keep getting distracted because the camera continually like cuts away to
- 53:49the underwater and every time it's like doing something else with it. But this
- 53:54is the time where a sea king is confronted with these weird creatures that are
- 54:00apparently bringing up meat, like you know, they're there, they got dinner.
- 54:07Do we find out in these episodes what the names of these creatures are.
- 54:13They are so weird looking, they're blue, and they have a like
- 54:20I hesitate to call it a hood over their heads because a hood implies that
- 54:23there's like an opening and there isn't. It's just a sheet it feels like
- 54:29draped over their head, like, and there's a skull drawn on it.
- 54:34And they have these big, round bodies but these really skinny like legs and
- 54:38arms, and they're apparently extremely good swimmers. They're really fast, but they
- 54:45seem to only have the intelligence of like an attack dog. Maybe it's they
- 54:51don't seem to have the intelligence of a full on human being. So yeah,
- 54:58it's just a I don't know what what these guys are, but I
- 55:04am interested in finding out because we've never seen whatever these are anywhere else that
- 55:09I can recall, So this is something specific to this prison, And I'm
- 55:14just like, are they like turning people into these Is this a Maria sort
- 55:19of situation where the creature that's out there, the creatures that we see walking
- 55:25around are just like the result of what they're doing to the prisoners. So
- 55:30this is when we cut over to Buggy and apparently he has just busted out
- 55:37of the jail with his chop chop method. He has got very long,
- 55:42lustrous blue hair. I don't remember his hair being this long, but it's
- 55:45a look I really like it. And oh okay, Gus says, she
- 55:52turns the camera to Stone to the snail got heart eyes. I totally miss
- 55:58that, thank you. But yeah, the guys are like, Bucky,
- 56:02how can you leave us here? And He's like, how can I leave
- 56:05you here? You guys are acting like you're my friends. I don't give
- 56:08a shit about you. I'm gonna get the fuck out of here, and
- 56:10fuck all y'all. It's too bad you can't do what I do. Sucks
- 56:14for you, by and I love. One of the guys says, you're
- 56:17not going to get away with this, and Bookie just gets this big grin
- 56:21and says, looks like I'm getting away with it just fine. That does
- 56:24not last. He's like trying to sneak down the halls that have security cameras
- 56:30all over the place, and they're in spots where he can't see them necessarily
- 56:36without poking his head around the corner to like, you know, ensure that
- 56:42it's all clear, and that is how he gets caught. It's like almost
- 56:46immediate. He barely turns one corner and boom, caught And yeah, I
- 56:55love him just breaking out into a sweat and holding a hand up and going
- 56:59high fellas. So he's yelling about to the snail about how it's his fault
- 57:07and punches it. I'm like, maybe you could just punch these cameras,
- 57:12you know, before you go around the corner. Meanwhile, all the dudes
- 57:15that he just left there are cracking up because he is getting caught so quickly,
- 57:21and I can't I can't help but understand, you know. We cut
- 57:29back to Lufy. He is trying to find another way down. He's gone
- 57:34down as many stairs as he could find, and he overhears some guards and
- 57:39he sees that they're going through another doorway that goes further down and is like,
- 57:44ah, okay, let me head down that way. Then he hears
- 57:50Buggy's screaming, and for a second it is like, what's that, But
- 57:53then it's none of my business. I got shit to do. I gotta
- 57:57go, And we see bug getting like cornered by these creatures. He just
- 58:04calls them a bunch of jerks. I mean that feels fair enough, And
- 58:09we get one of those classic like chases where there are all of these different
- 58:15walkways and like bridges and stuff that are intersecting on different levels, and so
- 58:22we're seeing like Buggy cross one way and Loofy cross the other way, and
- 58:25eventually Buggy is in a spot where he like looks over and there's a button
- 58:30that just says danger and it's got a big skull and cross bones on it,
- 58:36and he's like, why do you even need to say danger? It's
- 58:38a skull and crossbones? Who's going to press that button? But then one
- 58:42of those creatures startles him and he hits it by accident, and we get
- 58:45the wildest like super Mario security system you ever saw. It's all of these
- 58:52like spiked blocks dropping from the ceiling that Lufy is having to dodge, and
- 58:57then a bunch of arrows coming out of the walls like it's Indiana Jones.
- 59:01It's a it's a really it's funny. It's I can't help it. It's
- 59:07funny. Like they're just like straight up kill whoever sets this off? And
- 59:14Lufy is like, who the hell's set these off? And it didn't occur
- 59:16to me that maybe he might think they were catching him. We know that
- 59:22it has nothing to do with him. But there's a couple of guards who
- 59:27spot him and come running after him, and they fall into one of the
- 59:30trapdoors, which again it feels like you don't want to set up this sort
- 59:35of security system if your dudes are all going to maybe fall into the same
- 59:39traps as your prisoners. I'm just saying. One of the guys in one
- 59:46of the jail cells is like, hey, how'd you get out? You
- 59:50gotta let us out, and Lufy's like, I came in from the outside,
- 59:53I'm not in prison here, and they think maybe he's a jailer.
- 1:00:01I love Lufy just saying, you guys have some really bad attitudes. Do
- 1:00:06any of you know where I can find ace? And I'm just like,
- 1:00:08what a weird those are not it's just a weird segue. You've got bad
- 1:00:14attitudes, Hey, can you help me out? You probably don't want to
- 1:00:16start off with bad attitudes accusations before asking for a favor. But yeah,
- 1:00:23when he asks, they're like, oh, the guy on death row and
- 1:00:28he says, yeah, I came to bust him out of this place,
- 1:00:30and everybody's like okay, like go ahead, sure, give it a try.
- 1:00:37But he's probably gonna be down on level five and there is no way
- 1:00:43you're getting down that far. That's where they hold everybody who's got one hundred
- 1:00:46million berry bounty or more. It is serious down there, and the other
- 1:00:52dude says, while you're here, you think you could run to the jailer's
- 1:00:58room and pick up some keys. Yeah, buddy, wouldn't be no trouble,
- 1:01:01right. And I love this because like I shouldn't be rooting for Lufy
- 1:01:09to do this, Like probably these guys are terrible, terrible people. They're
- 1:01:14likely here for a reason, but just like real prison, it's just like,
- 1:01:17what is this helping. It's just providing sadists with a supply of human
- 1:01:23bodies to torment. Like, it's not you're not doing anything to set things
- 1:01:29right. So anyway, as they're trying to convince him, Buggy comes sprinting
- 1:01:35down the hall. Oh the Blue Gorries that's what they're called. They're they're
- 1:01:39chasing him. One of the guys is yelling like you gotta hurry, they're
- 1:01:45gonna kill you, and they bring down like an axe and almost chop Buggy.
- 1:01:51No they do, they do chop Buggy in half. Oh my god,
- 1:01:54I love that. I didn't even realize the first time that that wasn't
- 1:01:58just like an animation thing that he literally was chopped in half. But that's
- 1:02:02very funny, and Lufy is just like I can't fucking believe that I'm dealing
- 1:02:12with this guy again. Buggy, when he looks over and realizes who Lufy
- 1:02:15is, turns into a million parts out of surprise, like expands and I
- 1:02:22love it when when Buggy is like, how can you even be here?
- 1:02:28And Lufy looks over and goes, oh Buggy, and Buggie just yells,
- 1:02:31thanks for reminding me why I hate you. I see, prison hasn't made
- 1:02:36you any less annoying. Oh God. So then Buggy tries to hold it
- 1:02:44over Lufy's head that he got arrested and is in jail, and Lufy It's
- 1:02:49like, dude, I'm like just here too because of my own reasons.
- 1:02:54I don't. I'm not like a prisoner. Only idiots get arrested. So
- 1:03:01then Buggy tries to say, oh, you're here to rescue me, aren't
- 1:03:07you. That's what it is, and he starts getting teary eyed, but
- 1:03:09then says I I'm not into you, weirdo, And I was like,
- 1:03:15oh, boy, can't help ourselves. Huh. We have to sexualize the
- 1:03:19possibility of lesbians earlier in this episode, but then be super homophobic right here
- 1:03:25for like no reason, like what even what are you talking about? So
- 1:03:31at this point, Buggy's trying to grab the front of Lufy's shirt. Lufy
- 1:03:37grabs his mouth in response. Buggy grabs Lufy's mouth in response. So they're
- 1:03:42running down the hall like gripping at one another. It's so weird, guys,
- 1:03:46focus, what are you doing? And one of the Bluegory almost chops
- 1:03:51them. At this point, Buggy, it's like this was supposed to be
- 1:03:54easy. I called it Buggy's peaceful escape plan, to which he says,
- 1:04:00who cares. I don't know why, but him just saying who cares?
- 1:04:05That cracked me up, just genuinely like, I'm not engaging with you,
- 1:04:10stop this. So let's see here It okay, clearly you've thought this out.
- 1:04:21I'm on a mission here. My cover's already blown, so I gotta
- 1:04:25get this done in a hurry. And Buggy says, that's the number one
- 1:04:29reason why I hate you and that redhead so much. Both of you are
- 1:04:33always so optimistic in the worst way possible. And I thought he meant Nami,
- 1:04:43but Lufy pictures Shanks and I was like, oh, oh right,
- 1:04:47Bucky used to know Shanks. I thought he meant Nami, and I was
- 1:04:50like, I wouldn't really think Nami was like the call somebody that I would
- 1:04:55call optimistic, but Shanks, yes, that makes sense. So they finally
- 1:05:01come to a stop and Buggy's like, you know what, fuck this,
- 1:05:04I'm just gonna cause some chaos and Lufy's like, all right, that sounds
- 1:05:10good to me. And Buggy sends one of his fists flying and Lufy does
- 1:05:15his elastifist and the two of them are like, yeah, I got it.
- 1:05:19But even as they say yeah, I got it, I can't help
- 1:05:23but notice that there's like a couple of Bluegories right behind them. So m
- 1:05:29mmmm, just feels like maybe you don't got it. That's all I'm saying.
- 1:05:36All Right, I have to rap, but thank you guys again for
- 1:05:39hanging out with me, and thank you to Florian so much for commissioning this
- 1:05:44episode. Really appreciate all of y'all. Oh I'm so sorry, just really
- 1:05:49quick. Gus says, tidbit from SBS. I don't know what that means.
- 1:05:55But when Buggie wears his pirate hat, he threads his long hair through
- 1:05:59the corners and it looks like tassels. So yeah, we didn't see a
- 1:06:02had loong hair last time. Oh okay, how what a weird way to
- 1:06:05wear a hat? Why not? I guess all right, guys, I
- 1:06:10will be seeing you I think tomorrow, because I nope, nope, no
- 1:06:17episode tomorrow, I lie. I will not be seeing you for a couple
- 1:06:20of weeks actually, because I'm also going to be taking the week of my
- 1:06:24birthday off, so it won't be until October tenth that there's another episode,
- 1:06:30so don't miss me too much. I love you all until then. Total
- 1:06:35loom motherfucker's That was an unspoiled network podcast.
