- 0:11Speaker 1: Dragon by Rude styles Gannet, Chapter six, My father meets
- 0:17Speaker 1: a rhinoceros. My father soon found a trail leading away
- 0:22Speaker 1: from the clearing. All sorts of animals might be using
- 0:26Speaker 1: it too, but he decided to follow the trail no
- 0:29Speaker 1: matter what he met, because it might lead to the dragon.
- 0:33Speaker 1: He kept a sharp lookout in front and behind, and
- 0:37Speaker 1: went on. Just as he was feeling quite safe, he
- 0:41Speaker 1: came around a curve right behind two wild boores. One
- 0:46Speaker 1: of them was saying to the other, do you know
- 0:49Speaker 1: that the tortoises fault? They saw a monkey carrying his
- 0:53Speaker 1: sick grandmother to the doctor's last night. But monkey's grandmother
- 0:58Speaker 1: died a week ago. Well, they must have seen something else.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I wonder what it was. I told you that there
- 1:06Speaker 1: was an invasion afoot, said the other boar. I intend
- 1:10Speaker 1: to find out what it is. I simply can't stand invasions.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Nie neither, said a tiny little voice. I mean me neither.
- 1:20Speaker 1: And my father knew that the mouse was there too, well,
- 1:24Speaker 1: said the first boar. You searched the trail up this
- 1:27Speaker 1: way to the dragon. I'll go back down the other
- 1:30Speaker 1: way through the big clearing, and will send mouse to
- 1:33Speaker 1: watch the ocean rocks in case the invasion should decide
- 1:37Speaker 1: to go away before we find it. My father hid
- 1:41Speaker 1: behind a mahogany tree just in time, and the first
- 1:44Speaker 1: boar walk right past him. My father waited for the
- 1:49Speaker 1: other boar to get a head start on him, but
- 1:52Speaker 1: he didn't wait very long because he knew that when
- 1:56Speaker 1: the first boar saw the tigers chewing gum in the clearing,
- 2:00Speaker 1: he'd be even more suspicious. Soon, the trail crossed a
- 2:05Speaker 1: little brook, and my father, who by this time was
- 2:09Speaker 1: very thirsty, stopped to get a drink of water. He
- 2:13Speaker 1: still had on his rubber boots, so he waded into
- 2:16Speaker 1: a little pool of water and was stooping down when
- 2:20Speaker 1: something quite sharp picked him up by the seat of
- 2:23Speaker 1: the pants and shook him very hard. Don't you know
- 2:26Speaker 1: there's more private weeping pool, said a deep, angry voice.
- 2:33Speaker 1: My father could not see who's talking because he was
- 2:36Speaker 1: hanging in the air right over the pool, but he said,
- 2:39Speaker 1: oh no, I'm so sorry. I didn't know that everybody
- 2:43Speaker 1: had a private weeping pool. Everybody doesn't, said the angry voice,
- 2:48Speaker 1: But I do because I have such a big thing
- 2:50Speaker 1: to weep out, and I drown everybody i'd find using
- 2:54Speaker 1: my weeping pool. With that, the animal tossed my father
- 2:58Speaker 1: up and down over the water. What is it that
- 3:04Speaker 1: you weep about so much? Asked my father, trying to
- 3:08Speaker 1: get his breath, and he thought over all the things
- 3:11Speaker 1: he had in his pack. Oh, I have many things
- 3:14Speaker 1: to weep about, But the biggest thing is the color
- 3:17Speaker 1: of my tusk. My father squirmed every which way trying
- 3:21Speaker 1: to see the tusk, but it was through the seat
- 3:24Speaker 1: of his pants, where he couldn't possibly see it. When
- 3:28Speaker 1: I was a young rhinoceros, my tusk was pearly white,
- 3:32Speaker 1: said the animal, And then my father knew he was
- 3:35Speaker 1: hanging by the seat of his pants from a rhinoceros's tusk.
- 3:39Speaker 1: But it has turned a nasty yellow gray in my
- 3:42Speaker 1: old age, and I find it very ugly. You see,
- 3:47Speaker 1: everything else about me is ugly, But when I had
- 3:51Speaker 1: a beautiful tusk, I didn't worry so much about the rest.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Now that my tusk is ugly too, I can't sleep
- 3:58Speaker 1: nights just thinking about how completely ugly I am. And
- 4:01Speaker 1: I weep all the time. But why should I be
- 4:04Speaker 1: telling you these things? I caught you using my pool,
- 4:08Speaker 1: and no, I'm gonna thrill you. Oh wait a minute,
- 4:11Speaker 1: rhinoceros said my father, I have some things that will
- 4:14Speaker 1: make your tusk all white and beautiful again. Just let
- 4:18Speaker 1: me down and I'll give them to you. The rhinoscro said,
- 4:22Speaker 1: you do. I can hardly believe it what I'm so excited.
- 4:27Speaker 1: He pulled my father down and danced around in a
- 4:30Speaker 1: circle while my father got out the tube of toothpaste
- 4:33Speaker 1: and the toothbrush. Now, said my father, just move your
- 4:37Speaker 1: tusk a little nearer, please, and I'll show you how
- 4:40Speaker 1: to begin. My father wet the brush in the pool,
- 4:44Speaker 1: squeezed a dab of toothpaste, and scrubbed it very hard
- 4:48Speaker 1: on one tiny spot. Then he told the rhinoceros to
- 4:52Speaker 1: wash it off, and when the pool was calm again,
- 4:55Speaker 1: he told the rhinoceros to look in the water to
- 4:57Speaker 1: see how the little spot was. It was hard to
- 5:01Speaker 1: see in the dim light of the jungle, but sure enough,
- 5:04Speaker 1: the spot shone pearly white, just like new. The rhinoceros
- 5:09Speaker 1: was so pleased that he grabbed the toothbrush and began
- 5:12Speaker 1: scrubbing violently, forgetting all about my father. Just then my
- 5:17Speaker 1: father heard hoofsteps, and he jumped behind the rhinoceros. It
- 5:22Speaker 1: was the boar, coming back from the big clearing where
- 5:25Speaker 1: the tigers were chewing gum. The boar looked at the
- 5:29Speaker 1: rhinoceros and the toothbrush and the tube of toothpaste, and
- 5:34Speaker 1: he scratched his ear on a tree. Tell me, rhinoceros,
- 5:38Speaker 1: he said, where did you get that fine tube of
- 5:41Speaker 1: toothpaste in that toothbrush? Too busy, said the rhinoceros, and
- 5:45Speaker 1: he went on brushing as hard as he could. The
- 5:48Speaker 1: boar sniffed angrily and trotted down the trail toward the dragon,
- 5:53Speaker 1: muttering to himself, very suspicious. Tiger's too busy chewing gum.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Rhinoceros too big, He brushing his tusk. I must get
- 6:02Speaker 1: a hold of that invasion. Don't like it one bit,
- 6:06Speaker 1: not one bit. It's upsetting everybody terribly. Wonder what it's
- 6:10Speaker 1: doing here anyway. End of chapter six
