- 0:00Speaker 1: This is a disruptor's podcast.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Welcome to Revealing Wholeness podcast dedicated to revealing the profound
- 0:08Speaker 2: connections between body, mind, and spirit, where we believe that
- 0:12Speaker 2: true wellness arises from addressing the root causes of our
- 0:15Speaker 2: health challenges, not just masking the symptoms. Here we dive
- 0:18Speaker 2: deep into how holistic approaches such as advanced chiropractic care,
- 0:22Speaker 2: personalized nutrition, and natural healing practices can transform your life.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Now here is doctor Troy.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Hello and welcome. I'm doctor Troy. Now, while I am
- 0:40Speaker 1: definitely not one to pull punches when it comes to
- 0:43Speaker 1: supplements and synthetics and drugs and all that, this particular
- 0:47Speaker 1: article was interesting because I thought, Okay, well here's you know,
- 0:50Speaker 1: let's see what MSM is going to tell us about
- 0:53Speaker 1: the four risks of taking too many supplement And while
- 0:56Speaker 1: I was hoping for something a bit I guess more realistic,
- 1:01Speaker 1: it was actually quite funny that the first thing that
- 1:03Speaker 1: they thought was the worst thing that could cause problems
- 1:07Speaker 1: is that your supplements could interact with drug And I thought,
- 1:12Speaker 1: now that's funny. And so they said heart disease, Vitamin
- 1:15Speaker 1: K reduces the effectiveness of blood thinners, thinking hmm, if
- 1:20Speaker 1: you had a full natural diet, you probably wouldn't be
- 1:23Speaker 1: on blood thinners and you're probably not taking vitamin K
- 1:27Speaker 1: if you are. But I thought that's pretty funny that
- 1:31Speaker 1: they would list that. Now what was fascinating is the
- 1:33Speaker 1: next one is cancer vitamin C and vitamin E. It
- 1:36Speaker 1: may interact with cancer treatments. Now, while real vitamin C
- 1:41Speaker 1: is excellent for the body, synthetic vitamin C, which is
- 1:45Speaker 1: a scorbic acid, is not so great. And synthetic vitamin E,
- 1:49Speaker 1: which is mixed to kopherols, well, they're really good preservatives,
- 1:52Speaker 1: but not much more. And most drug companies they make
- 1:56Speaker 1: all these synthetic vitamins. If you've listened to any of
- 1:58Speaker 1: my podcasts for any any length of time, you've probably
- 2:01Speaker 1: caught something of me talking about how most drug companies
- 2:05Speaker 1: make all the supplements for supplement companies and sell them
- 2:11Speaker 1: the raw materials that they then combined into what they
- 2:15Speaker 1: think is going to be the right dosages or that
- 2:17Speaker 1: will sell a product, and then of course sell it
- 2:20Speaker 1: to you and I. And while that might come as
- 2:23Speaker 1: a shock to you, there are a few companies that
- 2:26Speaker 1: do manufacture their own synthetic vitamins in house. But most
- 2:31Speaker 1: are going to buy them in drums from you know,
- 2:35Speaker 1: these huge pharmaceutical companies and then just mix them and
- 2:39Speaker 1: sell them to the public. And so years ago there
- 2:41Speaker 1: was this outcry I can remember I was just just
- 2:45Speaker 1: starting in practice, mid mid nineties, and they wanted to
- 2:51Speaker 1: pass a law that says that you had to have
- 2:53Speaker 1: a prescription to get vitamins. I'm like, that's absurd, And
- 2:57Speaker 1: of course back then, I didn't know what I know now,
- 3:00Speaker 1: And of course, if the drug companies were making these vitamins,
- 3:04Speaker 1: for all of these supplement companies, then why not have
- 3:09Speaker 1: to have a prescription. I mean, technically, all a synthetic
- 3:16Speaker 1: vitamin is is a less possible side effect drug, but
- 3:22Speaker 1: ultimately they're not real good for us. And anybody out
- 3:27Speaker 1: there taking supplements, I'm going to encourage you to be
- 3:30Speaker 1: cautious because most supplements are just massively overdosed synthetic drug
- 3:38Speaker 1: company made toxins that we believe were taking for our health,
- 3:43Speaker 1: and so be very very cautious. Now. I thought it
- 3:46Speaker 1: was fascinating that depression taking Saint John's work can affect
- 3:49Speaker 1: your body's processes or how your body processes antidepressant medication.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Well of course, because Saint John's Wort is liver protective
- 4:00Speaker 1: and your body doesn't want any drugs or medications in it.
- 4:04Speaker 1: They are foreign. And so if you take a herbal
- 4:08Speaker 1: supplement that's going to boost the clearing effect of the
- 4:12Speaker 1: liver to clean your blood, your antidepressants are going to
- 4:16Speaker 1: go along with it, and any other medications that you
- 4:18Speaker 1: are currently taking. So Saint John's Wort is an excellent
- 4:24Speaker 1: example of why we would want to know, hey, what
- 4:27Speaker 1: are you taking supplement wise and what drugs are you taking,
- 4:32Speaker 1: because ultimately, if you're taking a drug that you need
- 4:35Speaker 1: to do something in your body, you had better be
- 4:37Speaker 1: taking the nutritional component to treat. And I don't like
- 4:42Speaker 1: the word treat to supply the nutrients of the deficiency
- 4:45Speaker 1: that you have and why you're expressing the disease condition
- 4:48Speaker 1: that you're expressing. When we have to have a medication,
- 4:51Speaker 1: it's almost always due to a deficiency. And so if
- 4:54Speaker 1: we haven't supplied that deficiency and now we're we're using
- 4:57Speaker 1: let's say, an herb like Saint John's Wort to help
- 4:59Speaker 1: with my depression, which it does make the blood cleaner
- 5:02Speaker 1: and so my brain feels better. But there are other
- 5:06Speaker 1: things at play here that you don't have in your brain,
- 5:09Speaker 1: and so depression is going to continue to run rampant,
- 5:12Speaker 1: even though better controlled by Saint John's Wart, which is awesome.
- 5:15Speaker 1: But if you're going to go into an antidepressant, now
- 5:18Speaker 1: we've got to ask some other questions. So for those
- 5:21Speaker 1: clients that I have on Saint John's Wart, which I've
- 5:23Speaker 1: had them on Saint John's Wart, it's interesting testing them
- 5:26Speaker 1: because their body actually is like, hey, I really like it. Great.
- 5:30Speaker 1: It's wonderful for the liver, it's wonderful for cleaning the blood.
- 5:33Speaker 1: It's wonderful for making sure that as we detox, as
- 5:38Speaker 1: we improve our health, that the liver has a better
- 5:41Speaker 1: capability of assisting us with all that. So we're not
- 5:43Speaker 1: paying for it in the terms of feeling like crap,
- 5:46Speaker 1: feeling like we have cold or flu symptoms, and just
- 5:49Speaker 1: overall not doing well. So when it comes to the
- 5:53Speaker 1: heart disease of vitamin K, I get it. Everybody pretty
- 5:58Speaker 1: knows that. And then answer the vitamin C and vitamin
- 6:01Speaker 1: E in their natural forms would be very anti cancer.
- 6:04Speaker 1: So they certainly don't want you to take anything natural
- 6:06Speaker 1: that is actually food based. Vitamin C that would have
- 6:10Speaker 1: the five hundred components of the vitamin C complex and
- 6:14Speaker 1: vitamin E, which the core is selenium that is definitely
- 6:17Speaker 1: anti cancer. If you go look up selenium and cancer,
- 6:20Speaker 1: you're going to pull up some articles and say, hey,
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's effective against thirty three percent of cancers. It'll make
- 6:25Speaker 1: them go into remission. Well, I'm not saying that so
- 6:29Speaker 1: that drug companies come after me all mad because I
- 6:32Speaker 1: just told them what studies are out there on vitamin E.
- 6:36Speaker 1: It just is what it is. Selenium is awesome, and
- 6:39Speaker 1: selenium being the core the vitamin E complex. When you
- 6:42Speaker 1: take natural vitamin E from a food, you're going to
- 6:45Speaker 1: get something very potent that is going to be effective
- 6:48Speaker 1: for your immune system and helping it reregulate itself and
- 6:52Speaker 1: literally being anti cancer if you will, or just we
- 6:56Speaker 1: should probably just label it correctly restorative. It's not that
- 7:00Speaker 1: it's anti cancer, it's simply that it's body restorative. Now,
- 7:04Speaker 1: vitamin toxicity, this is where I thought they would begin.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And so vitamin toxicity can occur when and excessive amounts
- 7:11Speaker 1: of vitamins build up in your body. Well, vitalin means
- 7:15Speaker 1: are one thing, Synthetic vitamins are quite another thing. So
- 7:19Speaker 1: it'd be really nice if this article said is synthetic
- 7:22Speaker 1: vitamin Toxicity can occur when excessive amounts of synthetic vitamins
- 7:27Speaker 1: do in fact build up in your blood. So B
- 7:30Speaker 1: six is a prime example. B six we definitely need.
- 7:33Speaker 1: It is important. It is kind of a beginning point
- 7:37Speaker 1: to pull in zinc and other minerals into the body
- 7:42Speaker 1: that are super helpful but can become very quickly toxic.
- 7:46Speaker 1: And when we're taking something like paradox and hydrochloride, which
- 7:49Speaker 1: is B six synthetically from coltar, you are taking something
- 7:54Speaker 1: that you really don't want to put in your body.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And so a natural B six is hard to get
- 7:59Speaker 1: in any supplement form, but it is where you would
- 8:02Speaker 1: find B vitamins, much like things like liver, nutritional yeast,
- 8:07Speaker 1: egg yolks, and the like. So if you're going to
- 8:10Speaker 1: do something B vitamin wise, it is water soluble. But
- 8:14Speaker 1: I'm going to be very cautious about those just running
- 8:18Speaker 1: out and willingly buying B vitamins. If you're going to
- 8:21Speaker 1: find buy a complex B vitamin, then I'm going to
- 8:25Speaker 1: recommend that you take very low dose because they're likely synthetic,
- 8:30Speaker 1: and if you take a high dose you're likely going
- 8:31Speaker 1: to feel nauseous, which they list several times in year.
- 8:34Speaker 1: So those that they talk about that are are good
- 8:38Speaker 1: at causing toxicity are vitamin A, which is a fat
- 8:42Speaker 1: soluble vitem, and fat soluble vitamins are indeed have the
- 8:46Speaker 1: ability to become accumulative and toxic, though it's usually the
- 8:51Speaker 1: crappy vitamin A that does it. And so when I
- 8:54Speaker 1: have somebody that's that's on vitamin A, I do want
- 8:57Speaker 1: to know because I want to know what they're taking.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Classic example I've listened to another podcasts is when you
- 9:02Speaker 1: have a young child, I say young, okay, a teenager
- 9:06Speaker 1: who has acne and wants to go on acutane, which
- 9:09Speaker 1: is simply a synthetic vitamin A, and they monitor them
- 9:12Speaker 1: just like every month because they're making sure that they
- 9:15Speaker 1: don't have liver and kidney damage because it's so high
- 9:18Speaker 1: dose and so rough on the body to have that
- 9:21Speaker 1: synthetic vitamin A. Next is calcium, and of course calcium
- 9:24Speaker 1: in most of its store Bots brands, it has calcium carbonate,
- 9:28Speaker 1: which is limestone, and of course it's going to cause
- 9:31Speaker 1: problems with the body. Vitamin D people will take a
- 9:35Speaker 1: lot of excess vitamin D and do it for long periods.
- 9:39Speaker 1: If I do a fairly significant dose of vitamin D,
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's for a very short period of time, not long
- 9:44Speaker 1: at all. And then of course iron, most synthetic iron
- 9:47Speaker 1: is as ferrisulfate, which is garbage, and of course it's
- 9:52Speaker 1: going to cause constipation, nausea, stomach pains, could be even
- 9:56Speaker 1: causing ulcers because iron tells everything to to replicate, and
- 10:01Speaker 1: if you have h pylori, it's just gonna have it,
- 10:03Speaker 1: just replicate and go wild. Next is zinc, and of
- 10:07Speaker 1: course if you don't have enough B vitamins, you're gonna
- 10:09Speaker 1: have zinc pile up in the intestinal tract, and it's
- 10:14Speaker 1: usually a zinc oxide, which is garbage. Zinc is difficult
- 10:19Speaker 1: to absorb at best, and it requires a lot of
- 10:22Speaker 1: stomach acidity, which by the time we're fifty, as I've
- 10:25Speaker 1: mentioned in prior podcasts, we have about twenty five percent
- 10:28Speaker 1: digestive potency, which leads right into the third issue with
- 10:33Speaker 1: synthetic vitamins or taking too many supplements gastrointestinal discomfort and
- 10:40Speaker 1: what are they lists thereas or vitamin C again, but
- 10:43Speaker 1: also zinc. Now you can take folic acid too much
- 10:46Speaker 1: and that's also a big detriment follic acid. Man, I
- 10:51Speaker 1: hear that too much of that can actually increase cancer.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I've not nailed down the mechanism yet, but I have
- 10:58Speaker 1: seen it written, so we will get back to you
- 11:01Speaker 1: as I learn more and more that they figure out
- 11:03Speaker 1: how or what the mechanism is. Iron of course, gastrointestinal problems.
- 11:08Speaker 1: And then last, but not least, magnesium. So if you
- 11:11Speaker 1: have constipation and you take milk of magnesia, I think
- 11:14Speaker 1: a dose of milk of magnesias like fourteen hundred milligrams
- 11:17Speaker 1: of magnesium hopefully flushing the bowels. But as your body
- 11:21Speaker 1: tries to flush, if you've got constipation, it may not
- 11:24Speaker 1: feel very good, and gas discomfort is definitely on your doorstep.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Last and final of the four things is kidney damage. Well, yes,
- 11:34Speaker 1: kidneys are now processing water out of the blood and
- 11:37Speaker 1: they don't like extra synthetics in there by any stretch
- 11:41Speaker 1: of the imagination. So for kidney stuff, beware. And we've
- 11:45Speaker 1: already talked about vitamin C being problematic, so I thought
- 11:49Speaker 1: it was interesting that the one thing that they listed
- 11:52Speaker 1: was basically vitamin C, but they also talked just briefly
- 11:56Speaker 1: about liquorice root and again Saint John's what it may
- 12:00Speaker 1: cause damage. Now, I want to also point out that
- 12:02Speaker 1: each of these comments that they said may upset your stomach,
- 12:07Speaker 1: may cause damage, may affect your drugs, may do this,
- 12:13Speaker 1: they didn't say it does. And of course each person's
- 12:17Speaker 1: going to react differently. But if you're out there taking
- 12:19Speaker 1: handfuls of things and you're not sure what they are,
- 12:22Speaker 1: you may want to have a conversation with me. All
- 12:25Speaker 1: have clients come in and where they'll bring their supplements
- 12:27Speaker 1: and we'll simply test them directly on them. Does your
- 12:29Speaker 1: body like this or doesn't it? It's not a difficult test,
- 12:32Speaker 1: and people think it's all woo woo, but ultimately when
- 12:35Speaker 1: you ask the body yes or no, it's pretty smart.
- 12:38Speaker 1: It does know what it wants and what it does
- 12:41Speaker 1: want and what stresses it out and what doesn't stress
- 12:44Speaker 1: it out. And so they had talked about vitamin C
- 12:48Speaker 1: may may increase the risk of kidney stones. Well, yes,
- 12:54Speaker 1: if you're taking high ascorbic acid, you have no idea
- 12:58Speaker 1: what did that high scorbic acid is going to be
- 13:00Speaker 1: doing in your body. And so that ascorbic acid, if
- 13:04Speaker 1: it were to get into your bloodstream. Calcium is the buffer,
- 13:08Speaker 1: So the more increase in acidity of the blood has,
- 13:11Speaker 1: the more calcium's going to be pulled into the bloodstream
- 13:15Speaker 1: to help. Also, amino acids are going to try to
- 13:19Speaker 1: buffer as well. Even phosphorus will do it. So could
- 13:22Speaker 1: you be producing a significant amount of kidney stones? Yes,
- 13:26Speaker 1: what would be the ultimate fix? Well, I'm not going
- 13:29Speaker 1: to say the ultimate fix, even though it's probably the
- 13:32Speaker 1: most needed thing in a kidney stone situation, which is
- 13:36Speaker 1: natural vitamin a. Vitamin A has been known for many,
- 13:40Speaker 1: many decades to be four specifically kidney stones and of
- 13:45Speaker 1: course night blindness. I mean there are papers back in
- 13:48Speaker 1: the nineteen thirties and forties that just show unequivocally that
- 13:52Speaker 1: vitamin A natural source vitamin A fixed night blindness almost immediately.
- 13:57Speaker 1: So those are some ideas, at least when it comes
- 14:00Speaker 1: to supplements, I recommend that you don't go for the
- 14:03Speaker 1: run of the mill supplements. And if you're spending the
- 14:06Speaker 1: least amount of money in your supplements because they're the cheapest, you,
- 14:10Speaker 1: my friend, need to beware because that would be garbage,
- 14:15Speaker 1: and so you don't want to put that stuff in
- 14:16Speaker 1: your body. In fact, I wouldn't put any synthetic products
- 14:19Speaker 1: in my body. And beware of those companies that say
- 14:22Speaker 1: whole food, please do read the at least the nutritional information.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I was telling a client the other day that I
- 14:30Speaker 1: was walking through a store, probably ten years ago, and
- 14:34Speaker 1: I'm in the health foo section, just perusing because I'm interested,
- 14:37Speaker 1: and I see this product. This says whole food vitamin.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I said, get out. Somebody's producing a whole food vitamin.
- 14:43Speaker 1: That's fantastic. And so I look on the back and
- 14:45Speaker 1: I see like all these different vitamins and they're at
- 14:47Speaker 1: one hundred percent. I'm thinking, how how'd you get a
- 14:52Speaker 1: food that had one hundred percent of all these different vitamins.
- 14:55Speaker 1: No food does that. I looked at the ingredients, said
- 14:57Speaker 1: blue green algae. I'm like, that's impossible, And so then
- 15:01Speaker 1: I start doing some research and lo and behold, I
- 15:03Speaker 1: found that they take blue green algae and spray chemical
- 15:07Speaker 1: vitamins on them, and they're allowed at ten minutes of
- 15:10Speaker 1: having them on the blue green algae that they can
- 15:12Speaker 1: harvest the blue green algae and call it a whole
- 15:15Speaker 1: food supplement. And therefore they have all these exact measurements
- 15:20Speaker 1: of one hundred percent of all these different crappy synthetic
- 15:25Speaker 1: vitamins that they put on the blue green algae and
- 15:28Speaker 1: they can call it a whole food supplement. I'm sorry, folks,
- 15:31Speaker 1: this is out there. It's just sickening it. I don't
- 15:37Speaker 1: know if any of you would would have or work
- 15:40Speaker 1: at an environment where everybody wanted to cut corners, and
- 15:43Speaker 1: maybe you already do, and maybe you're out there. I
- 15:45Speaker 1: can't imagine if you're listening to this that you would
- 15:47Speaker 1: cut corners. But let's say that you cut corners, or
- 15:49Speaker 1: that you see people cut corners, you would think, well,
- 15:52Speaker 1: that's just crap, and yet here they do it all
- 15:56Speaker 1: the time in supplements. It's like so frustrating because you
- 16:00Speaker 1: have all these people, these well meaning people that want
- 16:02Speaker 1: to be healthy, and they're just getting duped left and right,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and just their health is suffering and they don't realize.
- 16:10Speaker 1: And so for most people, I tell them, look, take
- 16:12Speaker 1: very few supplements. If you've read about it, don't overdo them.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Take them with your biggest meal and small amounts and
- 16:19Speaker 1: call it good. You know, hopefully if you eat something
- 16:22Speaker 1: that has lots of B vitamins naturally and you take
- 16:26Speaker 1: a synthetic cyanic cobalamine, which is B twelve, hopefully you
- 16:31Speaker 1: can you can process that cyanic coblamine with the B
- 16:34Speaker 1: vitamins that you have in your food, and hopefully hold
- 16:37Speaker 1: on to that synthetic B twelve as best as you
- 16:40Speaker 1: can with your biggest meal. I mean, that's the best
- 16:43Speaker 1: way to do it. So when I give out a
- 16:45Speaker 1: supplement and people read the ingredients and it has all
- 16:49Speaker 1: these foods in it, and they look at the amounts
- 16:53Speaker 1: of vitamins and things, and they see that they're like
- 16:56Speaker 1: seventeen milligrams and it's like fourteen percent, and it's one
- 17:01Speaker 1: hundred and sixteen milligrams and it's forty two percent of ideal.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Like that, that is a whole food supplement that's as
- 17:10Speaker 1: best as we're to get. And so with that kind
- 17:13Speaker 1: of understanding, now begin to look a little bit better
- 17:15Speaker 1: at your supplements and have a bit better iye, about
- 17:18Speaker 1: choosing what is right and perhaps maybe what is cutting corners.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I hope this hits you well and that you're thirsty
- 17:26Speaker 1: for more information and to do things better for your health.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Until next time, I'm doctor Troy, And remember there really
