- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Ready for another episode? Lucas: Absolutely. So, we've covered a lot of market vocabulary before — fruits, numbers, asking for prices. But today, let's focus on something specific: buying clothes at a market. Luna: Ooh, I love that. I can already picture the colorful stalls. Lucas: Right? So imagine you see a nice shirt. You'd say: Nataka shati. Luna: Nataka shati. That means 'I want a shirt'? Lucas: Exactly. Nataka — I want. Shati — shirt. Let's break it down: Nataka shati. Luna: Nataka shati. Lucas: Good. Now the seller might tell you the price. If it's too high, you can say: Shati ni ghali. Luna: Shati ni ghali. 'The shirt is expensive'. Lucas: Perfect. Ghali means expensive. Let's hear you say it. Luna: Shati ni ghali. Lucas: Great. And to ask the price, you already know: Bei gani? Luna: Of course — 'What price?' So: Bei gani? Lucas: Right. Now, if you want to bargain, you can say: Punguza bei. Luna: Punguza bei… that means 'reduce the price'? Lucas: Exactly. Punguza — reduce, bei — price. Punguza bei. Luna: Punguza bei. That's handy. Lucas: And if the seller agrees and the price is good, you can say: Shati ni nafuu. Luna: Shati ni nafuu. 'The shirt is cheap'. Lucas: Perfect. Nafuu means cheap or affordable. So let's practice a mini conversation. I'll be the seller, you be the buyer. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Karibu! Nataka shati? Luna: Nataka shati. Bei gani? Lucas: Shilingi elfu tano. Luna: Shati ni ghali. Punguza bei. Lucas: Sawa, shilingi elfu tatu. Luna: Shati ni nafuu. Asante! Lucas: Excellent! You just bought a shirt in Swahili. Luna: That was fun. I love how natural it feels. Lucas: Yeah, and that's the goal — to get you comfortable in real situations. Luna: You know, speaking of real situations, I've been thinking… Fexingo has really helped me make progress with Swahili. And the show stays free because of listeners who support it. Lucas: That's true. If you've been enjoying the show and it's helping you, consider supporting us. It's easy — just go to buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, every little bit helps keep us ad-free and making more episodes like this. Lucas: So back to our conversation — let's practice those phrases one more time. Repeat after me: Nataka shati. Luna: Nataka shati. Lucas: Shati ni ghali. Luna: Shati ni ghali. Lucas: Bei gani? Luna: Bei gani? Lucas: Punguza bei. Luna: Punguza bei. Lucas: Shati ni nafuu. Luna: Shati ni nafuu. Lucas: Wonderful. Now you're ready to shop for clothes at a Swahili market. Luna: I'm definitely going to use these next time I'm in Dar es Salaam. Lucas: That's the spirit. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time on Learn Swahili with Fexingo. Luna: Kwaheri! Lucas: Kwaheri!
