Latest / Rusty's Garage / The Motorsport Brief - Brock Bathurst memories 20 years on
Transcript
- 0:04The Grand Finals are done.
- 0:06It is Bathurst week and in 2026, we remember the great Peter Brock.
- 0:10Hi everybody, Greg Russ with you for another edition of the Rusty's Garage Shortcast.
- 0:14But this is a special one.
- 0:16A panel of people who knew Peter best.
- 0:19And we're going to reminisce about 20 years, sadly, since his passing.
- 0:24And some of the great memories of one of Australia's best sports people.
- 0:28A quick reminder too about our latest feature episode, which we released in the past week with Andrew Miedicke.
- 0:33Two parts, 90 minutes of conversation there.
- 0:37Some single-seater success in Asia, one that he kept on the wall for many, many years before restoring it, plus his memories of working with Peter Brock too, including the backstory to the Commodore, unfortunately, breaking down on the way up the mountain in 1991 and a bit of hot wiring going on around a fuel pump and fuse issue.
- 0:55Good memories there.
- 0:56Now to my panel today, and it's a great group too, as much colleagues and co-workers as they were mates with Peter.
- 1:05Firstly, former HRT team boss, Jeff Gregg, someone who I kind of affectionately refer to as a loyal lieutenant of Brock's who worked with him in significant roles for many years in Graham Brown, and a driver that he proudly mentored to, the seven-time Bathurst winner, Craig Lowndes.
- 1:23Hello to you all.
- 1:24Welcome.
- 1:25Thank you for coming on today.
- 1:30Craig you'll be busy driving and I know you're about to hit the road to Bathurst very shortly but Jeff and Mort can I open the batting with you and that is because there is a group of you I understand going to Bathurst is it what is it like 20 odd people or something or other tell us a bit more about this this group who's going up when did all this kind of come together Jeff why don't you start for us
- 1:52All right.
- 1:53Well, Mort and Hayley called me around Christmas, might have been just before last Christmas, and said, oh, it's the 30th anniversary of Junior and Murph winning Bathurst.
- 2:08So Craig, I should say, he was Junior then.
- 2:13So we decided to pull a group together and go up and celebrate
- 2:18celebrate the 30th anniversary and in conjunction with Brock's 20th since he passed away, unfortunately.
- 2:26So we thought we'd go up and, yeah, we've got a group of, yeah, about 20 or 20, but all credit goes to Hayley Brown because she was the one that's organised everything.
- 2:35I was just, Mort and I have been in the background twiddling our thumbs while she's been out there pulling it all together.
- 2:43So it would be a great weekend.
- 2:45Yeah.
- 2:47There will be a lot of laughs and shenanigans, I know that.
- 2:50Mort, what about you?
- 2:51Can you give me your earliest recollections of meeting Peter Brock and what that was like?
- 2:57Mate, look, I met him in 1979.
- 3:01That's when I started in the race team.
- 3:04I joined the race team while Brock was away on the Round Australia rally in 1979.
- 3:11So I did a few days in the workshop before he returned after winning that rally.
- 3:17I was like, you know, the guy was God.
- 3:19Like we all know about these famous racing drivers like Craig.
- 3:23And, you know, like so, yeah, like I was actually shaking in my boots when I finally got to meet him in the workshop.
- 3:32But, geez, straight away, as we all know, everyone that we're talking here at the moment, the guy puts you at ease like within 30 seconds.
- 3:40So you just got on talking like he was your best mate.
- 3:44I love that.
- 3:46what they call you junior I love that that seems like bloody seems like bloody yesterday I mean he helped Brad Jones Neil Crompton Murph's talked about it on his socials recently and so on you had a special bond with him when did you first kind of meet him and and what was the early advice that that stuck with you perhaps
- 4:04I think that the earliest I met him, I was actually probably doing Formula Ford.
- 4:08And I remember, and Mort would remember this, like when he ran his own team and it was actually one of my vivid ones was Oran Park, which was a great old track.
- 4:20And I remember running up because I was running the Formula Ford.
- 4:23We were going for the championship at the time.
- 4:25And I was really fussy about making sure that Formula Ford was really clean.
- 4:30So I used to go up and harass the team to get a bottle of Mr. Sheen.
- 4:34And so I could go back and clean the Formula Ford and I'd go up there and be basically a pain in their ass, I suppose, and annoy them.
- 4:41But I suppose through my dad, I obviously met everyone, including Peter, and that was probably, you know, when I was in my teenage years.
- 4:49And I think the best thing for me, and you're right, like we're on the road to Bathurst now, is it was back in 94 when I first went there and Jeff was the one that picked up the phone and asked me to join the team at the time, is I was struggling, I was like a duck.
- 5:03It may have all looked calm on top, but I was pedalling like hell underneath because I was partnered up with Brad.
- 5:11I was slow.
- 5:13I was like probably two seconds off the pace, and it wasn't until Brock actually sat me down.
- 5:16And as Mort said, he was just very humble.
- 5:18He would describe a lap of Bathurst from turn one to the last corner across the skyline, across the top,
- 5:24And all those little points that he picked out and pointed out, from that point on, it just went on from there.
- 5:30So the advice, I think, was you only get a sore neck looking back.
- 5:35And, you know, he was a very positive person.
- 5:37I always say that, you know, he used to look like a half a glass of a drink.
- 5:42And people would go, oh, I've only got half a glass left.
- 5:44But he'd turn around and say, yeah, but you've still got the other half to go.
- 5:46He was always a very positive person.
- 5:48Geoff, were you kind of encouraging Brock to lean into a bit of that and help Craig at this stage?
- 5:54my lifetime with brock and it was a lifetime obviously i started as a kid um at at hdt actually special vehicles i first started and um the only reason i got the job was um
- 6:08I was waiting for an interview.
- 6:11It was Brock, Slug, John Harvey and Phil Brock.
- 6:17Anyway, I was waiting at reception and the girl at Leveson Street upstairs was
- 6:26I was just waiting there and I'm twiddling my thumbs and she said, oh, do you follow football?
- 6:31I said, oh, not really.
- 6:33I said, my grandparents do a bit, you know, North Melbourne.
- 6:37She said, oh, okay.
- 6:38I said, why is that?
- 6:39She said, you'll be asked what team that you follow.
- 6:43I said, oh, okay.
- 6:47She said, I'd actually say you follow Collingwood.
- 6:50I said, what?
- 6:51She said, I just, if you get asked, say Collingwood.
- 6:54Anyway, Slogan was the one that came out and got me and walked in and sat down in front of them.
- 7:01And, you know, what have you done in your life?
- 7:03You know, I've done my apprenticeship.
- 7:05I've just come back from America with Larry Ormsby.
- 7:07Yak, yak, yak.
- 7:09Anyway, it was about 10 minutes into it.
- 7:10And Brock said, do you follow football?
- 7:13I said, oh, yeah, shit, yeah.
- 7:15He said, who do you follow?
- 7:16I said, I'll call him.
- 7:18Oh, when can you start, mate?
- 7:20I think you'll be all on the way out.
- 7:22But, look, over the time, obviously at HDT, I was, you know, he was, as Mort said, he was God.
- 7:30He was everyone's driver to be.
- 7:36And, yeah.
- 7:38Then I left and went with LP, obviously, for a while and then ended up at HRT.
- 7:47But I'd always, in the paddock, even though I was with rival teams, he'd always, oh, g'day, Hog, he nicknamed me Hog because I had a Harley.
- 7:57And yeah.
- 7:59Yeah, he's always kept in touch with people he knew, and obviously I wasn't, you know, I was just a mule then.
- 8:09But when I got put on at HRT by John Crennan, and Mobil and Holden arranged to meet with John Crennan and...
- 8:25The deal was done where he'd come back under the factory umbrella.
- 8:30And it was strange because I was – obviously, I was a team manager then, and he'd come in as a driver and –
- 8:40You know, all the team was a bit nervous, only a small team then, and I just said to him, look, you know, let's just – he's just a normal bloke.
- 8:50Let's just get on with it.
- 8:52And he come in and he walked around in the car and met all the guys and basically just – it was like –
- 9:00he and I had never been apart.
- 9:02You know, he's, how you going, Hogg?
- 9:03You know, what's the latest?
- 9:05What are you going to do development-wise?
- 9:08And to that, Ron Harrop was also there and, you know, Ron and Brock had a strong friendship over a lot of years.
- 9:19So I think it just felt like home and he was very good with the guys and just guided us along.
- 9:31Craig in to have a drive and it was a bit of a surprise because we did it on the quiet and I wanted it like that and once Brock knew and Thomas that we wanted to try and get Craig up the front and get him experience, he just he was like a teacher, he come in not only taught Craig, he taught me how to handle Craig
- 10:00You know, I was a bit young then.
- 10:03I was a bit, you know, a warmer team managers had on and yelled and screamed a bit, but everyone got used to that in the end and just ignored me and got on with it.
- 10:12I love it.
- 10:13Hey, Mort, can you just take what Jeff's talking about there and maybe share it from your side too, from your years with him?
- 10:19Because any time you walked in, no matter what era, what team, but I think particularly you felt this, there was always a good bond, wasn't there, in the team?
- 10:32It definitely was, Rusty.
- 10:34It was a great bond.
- 10:35Before I start on that, I'm just going to quickly give you a little addition to what Craig was talking about just before about his Formula Ford days.
- 10:43Please.
- 10:45Secretly, when Craig was running his Formula Ford, through the back door of mobile, we did supply him with a little bit of sponsorship.
- 10:52We used to sneak him the odd drum of fuel and a few bottles of oil and whatever.
- 10:57And mobile really fell into being a sponsor with Craig before they even knew it.
- 11:02But on top of that, back then I was also driving the truck, the transporter, to the races.
- 11:10Nine times out of ten I'd be driving it by myself.
- 11:12So I'd be doing a trip somewhere somewhere.
- 11:16I'll give you a good example.
- 11:17It was Lakeside in Queensland.
- 11:20I turn up by myself.
- 11:22It was the old pits.
- 11:23So you had like parked on a hill and you had to unload everything and for all the guys turned up.
- 11:29And I look across and the only other car in the pits was a car and a trailer was Craig with his mate Ray Robbins, right, and they're already there with their Formula Ford.
- 11:39So I went over and dragged the kid and said, get over here.
- 11:42And somewhere I've got a photo of it is this little kid sitting in a Peter Brock Commodore while I'm unloading it out of the truck.
- 11:50Awesome.
- 11:51Awesome.
- 11:53But going back to what you said, mate, look, it was like...
- 11:58We had a great group.
- 11:59I'm sure Craig's dealt with some really great teams now as well, and you know what it's like when you, you know, you see how football teams do so well when they all gel.
- 12:10Back then, through those HRT days, yeah, look, there was a big blur right in the middle of it, which we won't go too deeply into at the moment.
- 12:19But generally, and particularly the early days, and Geoff will remember this, it was just...
- 12:26A team.
- 12:27And it was like those roosters yesterday, you know.
- 12:33It all worked well.
- 12:34Thrusty, you know because I worked with you at Channel 10, we had a magnificent group of people there.
- 12:40And we all know what it's like.
- 12:41You get a team together, it's bloody easy.
- 12:45My panel today is Craig Lowndes, Graham Brown and Jeff Gregg.
- 12:49Wonderful memories that we are sort of having the chance to reminisce about for the great Peter Brock as we very sadly remember that it's been 20 years since his passing at Bathurst this weekend.
- 13:01Craig, you were around him toward the end of his supercars and touring car professional career, I guess you could say.
- 13:08He still had this unwavering self-belief even at that stage, didn't he?
- 13:14Oh, absolutely.
- 13:14And again, I look at and I think back on going to corporate visits and everything else and how he would address the crowd and how he would engage the crowd.
- 13:24And I think that's where I learned a lot more of the outside of the car side of it through him because he was just so charismatic.
- 13:31But he was just, he would capture everyone's attention and he would, again, like that old cliche, it was a character building weekend because, you know, the doors had fallen off it and something had gone wrong.
- 13:42But...
- 13:43Jesus is still a great job to have and he was just a good storyteller.
- 13:50And I was actually recently in Sydney on the way through to Bathurst and the 72 Tirana was there and it was amazing.
- 13:58I got to drive that back in 06 because we were Ford back then and I remember getting permission from Bomb Ford, Jeff Polites to be able to do that but I was going to do it regardless.
- 14:09Like Jeff, I was secretly going to do it.
- 14:12Ford gave me the approval to do it, but the Tirana was there again.
- 14:16And it was amazing when you think back on all those eras that I watched growing up in the sense of going to a corporate visit and Brock would talk about the Tirana and he had very vivid and clear memories of, he would talk about the Tirana or he'd talk about the Commodores and what happened, he heard a noise and he had to start double clutching it and doing all these things to get the car to the finish line.
- 14:40And I still remember standing there and just looking at him because obviously it's a 72 Toronto, I'm a 74 build.
- 14:45So he's two years before I was even born and I was just listening in awe of the stories that he'd bring out.
- 14:51So for me it was, you know, he was a godsend for me in a lot of ways because he taught me a lot of off-track stuff that I really needed to embrace and I think a lot of the younger drivers, even the current drivers, probably need a little bit more of that connection
- 15:06now because we're losing some of the personalities and why people like Brock and Johnson's and Jimmy Richards and all those names we still talk about is because they had such characters and they brought the sport alive.
- 15:19And I think we sort of lose that a little bit today's world.
- 15:23And that's why I think we still talk about it.
- 15:25And that's why we're going to be coming this weekend and celebrating a person that we all really enjoyed being around.
- 15:30100%.
- 15:31Jeff, the co-drivers that came along were, I mean, there were some absolute standouts there.
- 15:37It's probably hard to maybe just pick one, but they were a part of the Mountain, the Brock, the Bathurst Magic too.
- 15:45Who were some of the standouts for you co-driver-wise?
- 15:48Well, I mean, as you know, the co-drivers, these, well, always been, always been, you know, very important to,
- 16:00to Bathurst, you know, for the victory.
- 16:03I remember probably one of the special times, and they both really bounced off each other was in 97 when Mark and Brock drove together.
- 16:18I saw something of both of them that really,
- 16:21You know, they obviously knew each other for sure around the pit.
- 16:25But Mark getting the opportunity to drive with Peter and Peter obviously having Mark, who was a former champion as well, they really lifted to another level.
- 16:38I mean, it's unfortunate that the car didn't finish the race.
- 16:42I would say that that was a pairing that I got a lot of rapport back from that.
- 16:50watching the two of them work together.
- 16:53It was amazing.
- 16:53It was an amazing weekend.
- 16:55It just unfortunately didn't turn into a victory, but man, if it had of, they both deserved it for sure.
- 17:01I love the fact that they respected each other and obviously fed off that, Geoff.
- 17:06Mort, can I come to you because Craig,
- 17:08Talked about the Tirana there before.
- 17:10What about some of the cars for you along the way?
- 17:13Is there a couple that you have a vivid memory for, a soft spot for, and particularly those from Bathurst?
- 17:22Definitely, for us, they're like those A9Xs, like they were a car.
- 17:29And we're going back to what Craig was talking about before with the old drives.
- 17:33They were a hotted-up road car, so you really had to drive them.
- 17:39They weren't a Formula 1 car by any way.
- 17:41means.
- 17:42And so, yeah, and to do a Bathurst in one, you had to baby the things to a point, not that Brock showed that in 79 at all.
- 17:51But, you know, the A9X definitely, it was a beautiful car, great race car.
- 17:59Probably, you go off memory, well, Jeff, our win in 84 with the Dayglo cars, the last of the big bangers, like those cars always stick with me.
- 18:11If you look over my shoulder there, you'll see the cartoon poster up on the wall, I think.
- 18:16Excellent.
- 18:16But, you know, those two were probably my best favourites.
- 18:24It's funny you mention this.
- 18:26Because you often, well, you can't now, but a lot of people used to ask Brock that question, what was your favourite car?
- 18:32His favourite one was his next one.
- 18:35He didn't have a favourite.
- 18:37You know, he just wanted the next model that went quicker.
- 18:41That was, and probably, Craig's probably the bloody same.
- 18:44So that's just, you want to, they only want to go faster.
- 18:47So forget the favourite.
- 18:48You can throw that up a tip.
- 18:49Just give me a new one.
- 18:52Jeff, to you, just on that, I mean, what about the car, the race?
- 18:58Which Bathurst stands out for you?
- 19:00And is there a car along the way that you got to work with, with Brock, that you got a soft spot for?
- 19:07I'd have to say 84, you know, the Group C last year, the Big Bangers,
- 19:14That was a big Christmas.
- 19:19Sorry.
- 19:20It was like Christmas, wasn't it?
- 19:24It was.
- 19:24It was.
- 19:27Probably the big thing was, you know, we come back from Europe because we run the Porsche at Le Mans and then we rush back and we had to hold and wanted to build.
- 19:42the new cars, two brand new cars.
- 19:44So we did it in six weeks.
- 19:46Mort was there.
- 19:47So he remembers it like I do.
- 19:50And that was probably the most exciting year that we'd ever have, you know, building new cars.
- 20:03And obviously they won Sandown and Bathurst and,
- 20:10it was just fantastic.
- 20:11You know, the last of the group C Holden kept one, obviously the other one got sold, but,
- 20:19Yeah, it was a year I'll never forget, that's for sure.
- 20:22Very cool.
- 20:23Craig, there is a whole generation now since Peter's passing, right, 20 years.
- 20:28What should we be telling those young ones to keep his memory?
- 20:32It's up to us to keep his memory shining bright.
- 20:35What should we tell them about why Peter was so special?
- 20:41Maybe there is a little extension to that, Craig, that, you know, we thought of him as Peter Perfect.
- 20:45He wasn't always Peter Perfect.
- 20:47There were things in his life at times that weren't right.
- 20:49But ironically, that endeared the Australian public to him.
- 20:53Sometimes I think they felt like, well, you know what, he makes mistakes sometimes.
- 20:57He's one of us.
- 20:58Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 20:59And I think that there's no doubt that, you know, we've all made mistakes and we are just human.
- 21:04But I think the fact, and it almost, it goes beyond motor racing.
- 21:08Like, you know, I remember when Peter went to the Olympics as a mentor and basically a soundboard for our Australian Olympians.
- 21:16And, again, he's...
- 21:20I suppose belief within himself, and I talk about it, you know, you give him a car with three wheels and he'd work a way how to race it.
- 21:27So he always was thinking, he was always approaching it like, well, okay, like Mort said, how can we go faster?
- 21:34What can we do?
- 21:35Always testing and making the team believe and push the team, though, we still need to do more.
- 21:42And again, like between the current car and the old cars, like I remember going to Eastern Creek and Jeff was there and Mort when we used to have Bridgestone and we'd go there and the Japanese would bring out containers of tyres and we'd spend 13 days just tyre testing.
- 22:00All those days and all that time now we don't have anymore.
- 22:02I think that we'd lose a little bit of that technology, but also the ability, and I again remember going with Brock,
- 22:09and he would sit me down and we'd have to do a qualifying run and let the tyres cure.
- 22:13Then we'd go and do a 25-lap race run.
- 22:15And Brock would talk about, okay, qualifying is one part, maximise it, racing is another.
- 22:21We've got to look after the rear tyre.
- 22:23So use another gear at turn two at Eastern Creek instead of using second, use third.
- 22:27Don't light the tyre up and just try to be more consistent over the race run.
- 22:32But getting back to your point, I think that there's still fans that come here with confidence
- 22:37with kids or grandkids, and they talk about the Brock era.
- 22:40They talk about the old, the golden era.
- 22:42You know, I talk to Chas Mostert all the time, and he wished he'd been in my era because he loved that era.
- 22:49He sees that as just, in a sense, the best part of motor racing because, you know, the cars we could develop, we could tune, we could play with, we could test.
- 22:58where today it's very much constricted.
- 23:00So the legacy of Brock, I think, will always continue because we always talk about him.
- 23:05I think there's no doubt about that.
- 23:06And then, of course, the visions and the footage.
- 23:10Again, I was at awe when I first saw Brock commentating a lap of Bathurst while he was racing.
- 23:15And you go, how in the hell can you concentrate and do that while you're driving?
- 23:19So, again, Dick and Brock were, I guess, a bit of a pioneer in that side of it for the TV world.
- 23:24So his legacy will always live on.
- 23:27Absolutely.
- 23:28Final question to all of you.
- 23:29We could talk like this for ages.
- 23:31I know there are lots of great stories.
- 23:33I often think about the fact that, you know, he was a bit more health conscious in later life.
- 23:37I think he may have still snuck the odd burger here and there, which makes me smile.
- 23:43Mort, let's begin with you, but I'll get a comment from all three of you.
- 23:47He would have been 81 in February.
- 23:50We were robbed in some ways, and he very sadly missed 20 wonderful years that would have been spent in that post-professional life with family and still no doubt around cars and things.
- 24:03What do you think he would have been kind of doing in that window if he was still with us and maybe today?
- 24:08I often think about that with, you know, legends that we lose way too soon.
- 24:14Yeah, I think about a tooth thruster like no doubt he would have still had his little finger in motor racing pies here, there and everywhere.
- 24:24No doubt about that.
- 24:25No different than what Craig's doing.
- 24:28And, you know, it was in his blood.
- 24:31But there was also a side of him which I saw not long, you know, the year or two before his death.
- 24:38Peter changed.
- 24:39He changed back to more the person he was.
- 24:42when I first met him, as far as I was concerned, and he was much more relaxed.
- 24:49He was having... You snuck in a burger there.
- 24:51Well, he was back having the odd glass of red, which, like, shit, I haven't seen Brock drink since...
- 24:59He gave up drinking in 1984.
- 25:02I'll tell you that because I know the day I was there.
- 25:04And he gave up the fags the same day.
- 25:07And so, like, to see him, like...
- 25:11only a few months before his death, and we had a glass of red wine together.
- 25:14Excellent.
- 25:16He really did – he mellowed out, but as Craig was saying, like the guy, he could go anywhere and he'd fill a shopping centre, he'd be kissing babies, he'd be doing the whole bit.
- 25:30That was just going to carry on.
- 25:31There was no doubt about it.
- 25:33Geoff, to you, what you perhaps miss about him today.
- 25:37A bit like Mort, I mean, we –
- 25:40He left HRT and then we managed, we got him back in 2004, I think it was, for a guest where he drove back in the team.
- 25:54If he was still around, he'd be still a legend.
- 25:56I mean, not that he put the act on, but everyone respected him and I think he'd still be, you know, I'd,
- 26:08you know, if it was possible, I'd still love to see him around racetracks and, you know, involved in motorsport because, you know, he's a very knowledgeable bloke and a bit knowledgeable in life.
- 26:24You know, we see what he did with Craig, you know.
- 26:30He loved advising, getting involved with young people in the teams and, you know,
- 26:37Yeah, I mean, obviously we all collapsed when the accident happened, when he passed away, but it'd be great if he was around.
- 26:48I'm sure he'd be given really good advice and he'd love being around and, you know, yeah, you know, these things happen, I guess.
- 26:59Yeah.
- 27:00Lovely, Jeff.
- 27:01Lovely sentiment there.
- 27:02Craig, let's come to you.
- 27:03It's your 33rd start this weekend.
- 27:05You're going for win number eight.
- 27:07Will you carry a little bit of Brock with you this weekend?
- 27:10Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 27:11And I think that, you know, for me, I think I've gone more full circle now because, you know, I go there this weekend, another young driver with Bailey Hall will walk the track, will talk those points that Peter taught me and shown me and sat me down, you know, 30 years ago.
- 27:26So I'm going to say, you know, I'm going to say
- 27:27I still carry a lot of that even today.
- 27:30And, you know, the first time you roll around a mountain, it's really special.
- 27:33The reason we go back there, because it's a race that it's so damn hard to lose, so easy to lose, so damn hard to win.
- 27:41You know, again, I've been there with fast cars and not had a result.
- 27:44You go there with, you know, a car that you have drama with the whole time you get there.
- 27:49And then again, you know, 18, we get the win.
- 27:52So it's a team element race and it's such a...
- 27:56built on that.
- 27:58But yeah, like, you know, like both what Jeff and Mort have said, like Brock could still be a pain.
- 28:02He'd be in there.
- 28:03I think the things that I miss is being able to pick up the phone and asking those questions.
- 28:08Like when, unfortunately for Jeff, when I left HRT and I moved to Ford, you ring him up and you get advice because he'd been through that process.
- 28:16He'd been to different manufacturers and different teams.
- 28:19And just having that soundboard and again, you know, going to Diamond Creek and going to the football club where we both played football or
- 28:26or do reunion stuff outside of motor racing.
- 28:30And like I've moved back to Melbourne and I'm down near that area again.
- 28:33And I actually drove past Brock and Bev's place down there.
- 28:38And I said to my good friend, we actually drove back and right up on the hill was that art set.
- 28:45Well, he's art studio.
- 28:46Like it was a bird like round
- 28:48And I said to him, that's where Brock used to sit and do his art.
- 28:51Because, again, you don't talk about what he – we only talk about Brock as a race driver, not what he was, you know, outside of that.
- 28:58And he was a bloody good artist.
- 29:00So, you know, all those memories all flood back this week, that's for sure.
- 29:04Awesome.
- 29:04Boys, this has been fabulous.
- 29:05We could talk for ages.
- 29:08Craig, go well up there this weekend.
- 29:11And Mort and Jeff, please have a little lemonade for me.
- 29:14I wish I was there with you both.
- 29:16Have an awesome time at the Mountain Boys.
- 29:18Well, Rusty, I just want to make one thing.
- 29:20I just want to say one thing that, you know, if we have a good result, I want to get Murph and I to reenact the Monday morning of 1996.
- 29:30There were some very, very sore heads that day from what I am told.
- 29:34So reenact that, Gowell, and thanks to all of you for chatting with us today.
- 29:39It's been nice.
