- 0:02Deep in the heart of Israel, God desires to be known by his
- 0:06chosen people, revealing himself to Moses as Yahweh the Great.
- 0:12I am a name too holy to utter. The Israelites call him Jehovah.
- 0:20Throughout the Old Testament, Jehovah responds to the faith of
- 0:23his people and shows himself strong on their behalf.
- 0:28In remembrance of Jehovah's power and love, the people give
- 0:31him additional names describing his ability and willingness to
- 0:35help in their lives. Each name describes the nature
- 0:40of the one true God, Each is Jehovah.
- 0:45Together they are the J team. In the village of Zarephath,
- 0:55near the city of Saidon, there lived a widow woman and her son
- 1:00who were so poor that they were about to starve to death.
- 1:03One day Jehovah Jireh, the Lord, our provider, gave the widow a
- 1:08promise, and when she believed it and followed Jireh's
- 1:12instructions, her life and the life of her son were saved.
- 1:19Oh God, I have nothing left to feed my son.
- 1:24We have enough food for one more meal and then we will die from
- 1:27starvation. Help me God.
- 1:32I have heard your cry, my dear woman.
- 1:35Do not put your trust in food, but trust in me.
- 1:38I will send my servant Elijah the prophet to you.
- 1:42I will use you to feed him, and as you give to him, it will be
- 1:45given back to you, pressed down and shaken together to make room
- 1:49for more. Do as I have said so that you
- 1:52and your son will have plenty. But Lord, how can I?
- 1:57My jar of flour is still empty. My jug of oil is empty as well,
- 2:04Lord. The Lord told Elijah to camp
- 2:10beside Karith Brook, which was a stream of water east of the
- 2:13Jordan. It was there that Ravens, large
- 2:17black birds, brought Elijah bread and meat each morning and
- 2:21evening, and he drank from the stream.
- 2:23But after a while the stream dried up, for there was no
- 2:27rainfall anywhere in the land. Lord, this famine has become
- 2:32more severe. There's no more water in the
- 2:34stream, it's all dried up. Go to Zarephath and stay there.
- 2:39I have commanded a widow woman there to provide for you.
- 2:43Thank you, Lord Zarephath. Where in the world is Zarephath?
- 2:53When is the servant of God going to get here?
- 2:56I don't know how much longer I can wait.
- 2:59Why would God send someone for you to feed?
- 3:02You don't even have enough food for yourself or your son.
- 3:06Perhaps you just imagined that God spoke to you.
- 3:10Yeah, that's it. You were hearing things.
- 3:14Your mind was playing tricks on you, probably due to a lack of
- 3:18food. Go ahead, prepare your last meal
- 3:22and die. I can't let my son see me like
- 3:30this. I have to be strong.
- 3:34For him. Please, dear woman, would you
- 3:37give me a drink of water? It's been a long journey.
- 3:41Yes, Sir, I will get you a drink.
- 3:44Uh oh, I know that guy. That's Elijah the prophet.
- 3:49He challenged our false prophets to attest, and boy did they
- 3:53fail. And then he called fire down
- 3:55from heaven, and God burned up his bull just like he said God
- 3:59would. And please bring me a small
- 4:01piece of bread too. Oh, she was right, God did speak
- 4:05to her. Oh, think, think.
- 4:08What to do, what to do? God is my witness.
- 4:13I do not have any bread. What do you need God for?
- 4:18I'll be the witness to that. She's getting ready to fix her
- 4:22last meal before she and her son die.
- 4:24So scram, Sam, beat it. You're too late.
- 4:27I only have a head full of flour and a little cooking oil.
- 4:32I'm gathering some sinks and to make a fire so I can cook our
- 4:37last meal. But after we eat it, my son and
- 4:42I will die. Well, I am good, or should I say
- 4:47bad? I wasn't sure if I was getting
- 4:49through to her, but I couldn't have said that better myself.
- 4:53Dear woman, do not be afraid. Afraid is good.
- 4:57OK, it's bad, but you know what I mean.
- 5:00Go and do as you have said, but make a little bread for me
- 5:03first, then use what is left to make some for yourself and your
- 5:06son. This is the promise of God.
- 5:09There will always be flour and olive oil left in your
- 5:11containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the
- 5:14crops grow again. You are Elijah the Prophet.
- 5:19Yes. Wait here until I return.
- 5:23The widow woman did as Elijah instructed.
- 5:26But have you ever wondered what thoughts could have weighed on
- 5:29Elijah's mind? OK, Elijah, you just wait until
- 5:33Slime TV hears about this. How dare you take a widow's last
- 5:37meal? That's the wrong approach.
- 5:40If Jehovah Jireh has anything to do with this, which I'm sure he
- 5:43does, he's teaching her to give, think.
- 5:47Think. What to do, what to do.
- 5:50I've got it. What makes you think she'll come
- 5:53back, Elijah? She'll bake that bread and her
- 5:56son will start crying for it. She won't say no to her own son.
- 6:01Forget it. You're going to starve to death
- 6:03right here. Your God won't even provide for
- 6:07you. As the demon taunted Elijah,
- 6:11Jehovah Jireh appeared with flour and oil for the widow
- 6:15woman. That laugh, it sounds familiar.
- 6:20Hey you. You can't be talking to me.
- 6:23I'm talking to you, you dirty little devil.
- 6:26My name is Damon. Besides, he can't see me.
- 6:29Wait a minute. I know you.
- 6:31You're from the J team. They call me Jira Jehovah Jira.
- 6:38What are you doing here? I take pleasure in the
- 6:40prosperity of my servants. You wouldn't try to deprive me
- 6:44of my pleasure now, would you? Oh no, Sir, I didn't know Elijah
- 6:48was your servant and I thought he was some bum trying to take
- 6:52advantage of a poor widowed woman.
- 6:54I'll just be on my way. Now I have a delivery to make.
- 7:01I made a little bread, as you said, Elijah.
- 7:04Then I looked in the bin and there was more flour and more
- 7:08oil in the jar. Praise Jehovah, it is a miracle.
- 7:12Oh, how thoughtless of me. Here is your bread and water.
- 7:15I pray that it pleases you. Tomorrow I will make you a
- 7:18bigger one. Come with me.
- 7:20I have a room for you to rest in.
- 7:22So the widow did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her
- 7:26family continued to eat for many days.
- 7:30There was always enough flour and olive oil left in the
- 7:33containers, just as the Lord had promised through Elijah.
- 7:37If you ever find yourself in need like Elijah and this widow
- 7:40woman, know that there is a God who promises to supply all of
- 7:44our needs as we seek first the Kingdom of God.
- 7:48He is Jehovah Jireh, the Lord God Almighty, our provider.
- 7:53He is the J team.
