- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 167! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know. We've come a long way. Today we're going to learn two new adjectives that you'll use all the time. Luna: Ooh, I'm ready. What are they? Lucas: Cepat and lambat. Cepat means fast, and lambat means slow. Luna: Cepat and lambat. Fast and slow. Got it. Lucas: Let's start with cepat. Say it with me: cepat. Luna: Cepat. Lucas: Good. Now, if you want to say 'this car is fast', you say 'Kereta ini cepat'. Kereta is car, ini is this, and cepat is fast. So 'Kereta ini cepat'. Luna: Kereta ini cepat. That sounds cool. Like a sports car. Lucas: Exactly. Now your turn. How would you say 'this car is fast' in Malay? Luna: Kereta ini cepat. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's try lambat. Say it with me: lambat. Luna: Lambat. Lucas: Great. If you want to say 'that snail is slow', you say 'Siput itu lambat'. Siput is snail, itu is that, and lambat is slow. So 'Siput itu lambat'. Luna: Siput itu lambat. That's a good example. Snails are definitely lambat. Lucas: Right. Now you try. Say 'that snail is slow'. Luna: Siput itu lambat. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's put them in a sentence about a person. 'Dia berlari cepat' means 'he/she runs fast'. Dia is he/she, berlari is runs, and cepat is fast. So 'Dia berlari cepat'. Luna: Dia berlari cepat. That's a useful one. Lucas: Absolutely. Now you say 'he runs fast'. Luna: Dia berlari cepat. Lucas: Great. So we've got cepat for fast and lambat for slow. Let's do a quick review. What's fast in Malay? Luna: Cepat. Lucas: And slow? Luna: Lambat. Lucas: Nice. Now let's practice with a little scene. Imagine we're at a race. A car goes by really fast. What do you say? Luna: Kereta ini cepat. Lucas: Perfect. And then a turtle crosses the road slowly. What do you say? Luna: Turtle? That's kura-kura. Kura-kura itu lambat. Lucas: Oh, you remembered kura-kura from before? That's great. So 'Kura-kura itu lambat'. Luna: Yeah! I love that word. Lucas: Okay, now let's do a quick drill. I'll say an English phrase, you say it in Malay. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: This car is fast. Luna: Kereta ini cepat. Lucas: That snail is slow. Luna: Siput itu lambat. Lucas: He runs fast. Luna: Dia berlari cepat. Lucas: Wow, you're really getting it. And speaking of fast, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language, honestly, if today was worth a coffee to you, that's the link — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's a small way to keep the show going and ad-free. We really appreciate it. Lucas: Alright, back to practice. Let's do one more sentence. How would you say 'the bicycle is slow'? Bicycle is basikal. Luna: Basikal itu lambat. Lucas: Perfect. And 'the train is fast'? Train is kereta api. Luna: Kereta api itu cepat. Lucas: Excellent. You've got it, Luna. Today we learned cepat and lambat, and you used them in sentences. Great job. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I feel like I can describe things now. It's awesome. Lucas: That's the idea. Keep practicing these words, and next time we'll learn more. This is Learn Malay with Fexingo. See you next episode. Luna: Bye bye!
